I had a bit of an idea, concerning the daily, in that guest writers could come along and take over the threads for a while, promoting their work and linking to the stories of the day that they find fascinating, rather than you always hearing from me. I've set up a wiki page for volunteers, and although the details are sketchy at the moment, let us know if you'd like to get involved.
- In charity news, long-time commentor Andy is growing a moustache in November and encouraging donations for doing so. We've given a little bit to support the cause and you can do the same here. Also, if you want to see the moustache in progress, here ya go!
- It is the second roundup of posts from Pitlane Fanatic, with Something For the Weekend II. I really like these recommendations, and particularly enjoy the roundup of Thursday Thoughts. Excellent stuff from Jackie, keep it up please!
That'll do it for now. There should be a live debrief later on today, so if you have an hour or two to spare on a Sunday night, we should be going live about 7ish. Don't hold me to that and we'll be in the comments to keep you updated. See you there.
self pinging the daily for the 22nd.
www.autocomplete.com
dont forget to read the comments from the site author under each hilarious example
Grrrrr! I'm not sure why I've woken up :( I'm gonna be pretty grumpy tomorrow if I can't get back to sleep though....
you've lost me?
1... 2... 3... 4... 5...
Greetings everyone ;)
hey squire. how's things?
pretty good. I love Boston and finally on top of all that new country paperwork eg bank accounts and paying bills. After being here 4 weeks I actually started doing some actual work this week! Feels good, iv been waiting for this job for months So great to sinky teeth into!
under the image of google's autocomplete suggestion in the last post, the author has written "Maybe it’s just mad you keep slamming the door in its face."
its in grey text and when I first looked at the site I missed these little gems. they add to the hilarity
umm... i've got a website asking me to log in.
you?
ah-ha. good stuff. i don't know much about boston, what do you like about it?
Oopsy! Should have copy and pasted. Embarrassed!
it's www.autocompleteme.com
coming soon website for me too. Maybe .au at the end?
I have to go now. :-( Boo!
people are scary.
so soon? see ya.
it's not Italy ;) I work with top class professional people but the city has this young youthful feel because of all the college students here. And there's the river and the water (I just had mountains for two years). I did a duck tour (truck and boat thing) of boston today and learnt some history and cruised around on the water. The weather will get brutal but this place just feels good to me. Nice to speak my own language of course too. I think a lot of my sense of humour lies in the jokey English so people get my jokes here and I am what I am. Very nice.
I know :-(
I won't make any promises, but if I can go to bed early enough, I will aim to get up at 6am here (GMT+11 ;-) ) in time for debrief
we demand pictures. lots of pictures.
ahh cool. look forward to it :)
Boston Big Pictures? :P
OMG! i never connected the two.
i (hearts) boston too!
hmm. Is there a free way to get from iPhone to dropio? I took norm pics but no software on my work computer yet to get them off. You will see pics, but not now me thinketh.
Local radio playing rudolph the red nose reindeer. Pretty fun here because we just went from Halloween stuff on the shelves to Xmas stuff. Thanksgiving this week.
Ooooh debrief yeah. If I can make myself sleep, I'll most definitely be back for that.
think of the sleep and I'm no expert but stepping away from the Internet might help? :)
the easiest way is via the free flickr app, and a free flickr account.
you could also email pics to the drop from the phone, but note the email address changed recently.
did my counting now help?
The counting was AMAZING. I'm not asleep but I'm very impressed. I need to be up for about 15 minutes then go back to bed, then I might have a chance of sleeping.
pixelpipe? Although I could never get it to work
I've just sent three pics. Nothing spectacular but you'll see the duck, a famous bridge you might have seen in Boston Legal. the good photos are on the good camera which is filling up fast.
It's every Sunday. How can it be a surprise? :D
don't recognise it, but the place looks really nice.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-345
:P
I'll try that out soon. Just installing it. The weather was great today so always nice to have fun in the sun!
except for those Sundays it's not on?
Apparently those don't exist! :P
There is the very odd exception.
Any Australian rugby fans around tonight? :D
yes why? I've not seen news for sometime. Or should I not ask?
Scotland 9 Australia 8 :D
WOOOOOO!!!!
please tell me I'm reading that wrong
oh Australia. I thought you meant Austria ;) so no never cared at all ;) was this a friendly or the start of some series that will be hard to follow from here.
Australia absolutely dominated the game and should have won by 20 points at least. They had won break where they had 3 player overlapping with one Scottish player defending and instead of just passing down the line till there was a gap they tried this enormous floating pass to winger but the ball went about 10 yards forward
Scotland NINE Australia EIGHT :D
Is that better?
no, not really ;-)
I thought drawing with ireland was bad......
not to an Aussie. This is a half time score right?:)
It's the Autumn tests. Australia, NZ and Argentina are all on tours in Europe. NZ beat England and Wales beat Argentina
3:3 at half time
so England is loosing to everyone? That's ok then
Oh and Scott? It's stinking hot here right now
I loved watching welsh play six nations (five?) the last few years. They are going pretty well but no offence, a draw with Ireland and a loss to Scotland is hard to take even if Scotland was named after me, but before I was born.
They are struggling badly.
yeah i heard. My parents are north of Sydney and they cranking up the airco. And I think I heard about Melbourne (saw a headline when I signed out of email). You in Canberra Paul? How hot today?
Six nations since Italy was added about ten years ago. I was surprised that the manager of Australia is a Kiwi but then we have an Englishman
This is league though isn't it?
at the coast today for a bit of relief. Getting sick of ever day over 35
No. It's proper rugby. Scotland don't play the silly 13 a-side game
the italian team is a joke. As for who coaches who, as long as the money is good, betraying your nation does not matter anymore ;)
You could move here and risk hypothermia, drowning and being blown away every time you step outside
Ah I see. It's only union that I can understand....
:D
It's awesome! :D I had a power cut apparently today as all my clocks on my appliances have reset. Our substation is flooded. They're bailing out water with buckets. I think that's more dedication to power maintenance than I could really muster.
come to Melbourne, it's only 14 today and has been raining for more than 24 hours :D
That's why we won then
I think bosotn might give you a run for the money. But I knew ppl that lived in Mongolia and handled 50 degrees below ( c or f it's still cold) so I cannot complain to them. Useless fact of the day- minus 40 is the same in Celsius and Fahrenheit.
rain? What's that?
its the thing preventing me from going to the shop and I really need to buy some milk and some margarine!
Imagine having your shower in the moring with freezing cold water, 50 mph wind and the shower lasts for months on end
its that stuff I saw a lot of on Friday morning. I wasn't used to that in Sydney.
you bought buttermilk yet? :)
I don't belive this. They keep talking about it on the tv, but I have seen nothing
never! I have not baked in a long time, the desire passed. Plus I can never eat cake again due to that pesky Finn.
It's normally at this time of day the latest rumour about him turns up
I think I'll get through winter here by baking. Cake and Finn? What do you mean?
I was planning cake to celebrate his announcement at McLaren. Which now won't happen, so no cake for me.
oh that. #sorryamy
Could you not re-purpose it for the brawn buyout? Or was it a vodka infused white forest cake?
No Kimi, no cake!
But the tattoo is stil an option
He will be somewhere in 2010... that can still be celebrated.
heheh
but where? Just how many places can he be going? The new stig?
Perhaps, but he may have to tone down his emotions.
:)
Time for me to run away. Might see you for debrief.
night sir.
Bye Scott
will debrief work on iPhone?
not yet, sorry. couple more months.
see ya Scott. I'm off to the beach :-)
hmm might not be here then. See you all later and I wish you all a happy sunday
Macau is famous for crashes. F1 Wolf reporting that even the F3 warm up was stopped to remove crashed cars and the FBMW race was carnage. Only 9 finishers
http://sidepodcast.com/playground/microblogging.php
have made a tiny update to live commenting / real-time this evening. am not expecting issues but you never know.
in the past, every request to look for new comments resulted in a small amount of data being returned, regardless of whether there were any new comments.
it was only about 4kb for each request, not a huge overhead even on mobiles. the data returned was used to update the "status" message at the top of the page.
however, have now found a way to make that small amount of data redundant, so if there are no new comments available, no data is returned at all. a small side-effect is the "status" message might not be reporting correctly for the next couple of hours (just until all the cached code gets refreshed).
how many started?
Don't know but probably 30ish
woah!
24 entries http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/gp/56/subpage.php?id=1926&lang=en
is it wet or something, what happened?
Macau is always a crashfest because it is so important to the drivers
Looks like FBMW was the usual Macau first lap hothead meeting
http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/gp/56/result.php?race=bmw_race&lang=en#result
was it pat who said: "anyone who finishes deserves a trophy"?
I am not sure but it is not a bad assessment. I can't find a stream anywhere but Wold says the GT race was "another chapter of the '09 Macau Crashfest"
Morning everyone!
Can anyone recommend decent camera (rather than photography) blogs?
Its sunny in case anyone was wondering ;)
Good morning! Could someone do me a favour and add my name to the list of volunteers for guest posters on the Daily Thread? There are, unfortunately, certain limitations of my iTouch...
Done
thank you! So looking forward to another live show! I hbe a whole drama script to re-write, so that would a prefect remedy to my probably aching fingers...
"I was planning cake to celebrate his announcement at McLaren. Which now won't happen, so no cake for me."
I know the feeling... but I was planning on a bottle of bubbly...
I want some chips. Someone bring me some chips.
This Mika fellow is singing on my TV. Do you think he would listen if I asked politely for him to change his name? He brings shame to proper Mikas everywhere.
He is not Finnish enough for a start.
Indeed. He was also lip synching which seems a little odd considering its Australian Idol and it's all about "talent"
The only thing going on today apart from Seb at NASCAR is the Macau crash fest....
Actually Sam Bird did pretty well....
hehe. I was wondering if you would see that.
I am now watching Australia v Australia in cricket. Can't they find another team?
I am distressed that there are that many people at the Idol final when Pearl Jam are in Sydney tonight. Everyone should be there instead!
there has to be somewhere to put these people. It keeps them out of the way
for a few hours, at least. It's better than nothing.
Goodness me . I might start live commenting on certain girl singers jeans!
Ooo cool. Idol is now sponsored by binge drinking :-)
don't turn a night out into a nightmare :P I like that he keeps calling it the "governments binge drinking campaign"
doing something for the youth. I'm sure my 18 year old neice would approve.
their fireworks are also making a lovely mockery of the total fireban in NSW
He's from NZ. Now I know why you are watching this!
Cameron White looked like Kimi when he had his batting helmet on
His accent is horrible. I don't sound like that!
Channel 10 has the british comedy gala in 5 mins, then ROC (not Rally Of Canberra!) is on OneHD at 10pm
I was thinking of watching both but then I remembered that the ROC bored me this year.
*nods in agreement* :p
Hello everyone. I am away with my Nephew (of parade lap fame). We and his grandparents have introduced him to Scalextrix! Short video on the drop and lovely cutting F1 comment from Grandma at the end!
Why do they have a guy singing a girls song?
are you rebuilding Brooklands too?
you must have missed him doing Beyonce. Terrifying.
I love scalextric. My brother and I spent years playing that
come back to the cricket Paul!
I rebuilt brooKlands once. I just didn't tell anyone about it!
or you can watch Scotland beat you at Rugby on One. Woohoo!
I just did :-)
James May is such a copycat
or comedy gala
Morning
Where is it? I just see some boat pics and a scary pic of Andy...
that won't have started, idol always goes ridiculously overtime.
I know!
Youll never guess what... I am working!
for 8 hours?
They let a kiwi win Australian idol. It's official - we have lost everything this weekend.
he was born in Melbourne, you can have him.
hence the cricket being oz vs oz
With one team dressed up as......you guessed it
classic!
we win at sidepodcast?
This guy can't even sing. How do they judge this competition exactly?
they appear to be dressed as the johnnie walker mclarens.
hes very religious and the hillsong church vote a lot.
oh, they do too!
So its a popularity contest? I haven't taken much interest to be honest
been here for 6 already!
pretty much. Not taking an interest is wise, the winners never really get seen again. The winner from last year did a free show in Melbourne last month and two people turned up.
I think Mclaren are winning the cricket
the opposite message to idol? plenty of Vic Bitter ads too.
but idol was sponsored by binge drinking. Perhaps they should have gone to schoolies?
I like Twenty20. I like that they interview them as they are playing.
isnt it awesome? :-)
comedy gala has started
john cleese opens!
bye until debrief
I refuse to believe you're hard at work... It simply can't be true!
They have one captain interviewing the other one? pricesless
I'm with her.
F1 so needs that.
I vote Seb Vettel as interviewer....
Boooooooooo to you 2!
Is ROC done with radio control cars?
hey hey
Arent you supposed to be working too? :P
Morning all :P
I have a video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_0g15WLyZE&feature=sub
Is anyone else following F1-wannabe Jonathan Summerton on Twitter? http://twitter.com/jsummerton
He's a rather desperate attention seeker isn't he? Bless 'im
Good evening everyone.
just back from Macau - here are some pics from the crash fest - from the corner where my seat was
Afternoon Gang
Aloha.
How art thou?
Average. You?
Averagely Average.
Double average?
Almost triple. Infact, Triple Average
Well, I'm afraid I definately can't top that. I'm just average.
Afternoon all. Seems very lively in here today.
Very. How are you doing?
Happy. Another win today so all is good.
Newcastle?
No, my team I play for.
Oh, ok.
congratulations!
Indeed. What was the score?
4-2. 2-1 to them in the first half
Well done. I'm not playing at the moment but last season we never won a game...
We were like that last season as well. Normally pick up in the second half of the season but this year we are doing well.
morning all.
Hello there.
omg!
:D *waves*
anything exciting happened since i slept?
not since ive been here
i do like jenson and jess having twitter conversations:
http://twitter.com/The_Real_JB/status/5942254848
http://twitter.com/jessybondgirl/status/5942370923
Nor I.
apparently it's the last nascar race of the season today, anyone know what time that's on?
aww bless them
Oh my gosh at the Top Gear impression on The Impressions Show last night... ahahahaha...
we live commented australian idol! I am ashamed :(
I will post later in the week some "normal" photos too :-)
Not cool.
oh my
you did?
am gonna have to read back.
nice one. i'm stunned at the carnage.
you watched the start of the FBMW race yet?
nope. did i miss a link?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_0g15WLyZE&feature=player_embedded
this is common...
Umm, fail much?
10 cars didn't finish the first lap...
Tyres flying everywhere! That's dangerous...
was DC driving?
it really is
every car?
the only race without crashes were motorbikes, they already know that crashing on bike in Macau is seriously bad idea
:D
watching that crash one understands why the fences are that high ...
I just watched that this morning. :)
yes, years ago :-) and won it ...
Also, good ol' Gabriele Tarquini bagged himself a WTCC title as well. :D
I LOVE the Hammond impression. It makes me giggle so much
Is that episode 3?
Yep. If you want to iPlayer it, it's about 25 minutes in
Did you see the Clarkson Family impression this morning on Something For The Weekend? :D
Is it this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptU7Q40JSA0
taaa
Yes!! :D
ah. that saves me watching it!
Watching it now :D
That's pretty funny. Who is playing May? I recognise him...
end of waterloo road then that!
it's iplayer day
i see no video :(
One thing puzzles me - why did they portray Clarkson saying "Woof!"? I've never the actual Clarkson say it.
I blame the new drop email address.
you really did live comment australian idol...
:D
ahh. bugger.
It was odd waking up to the doohickey to australian idol live commenting!
I blame that non-Hakkinen Mika for turning up.
ahh, i quite like him.
I'm so glad I don't know your name so pretending not to know you will be easy.
:P
We established that he is not Finnish enough... and he was miming.
he can be brown, he can be blue, he can be vi-o-let skyyy...
Oh god.
there was also a cringeworthy routine with the audience where they did a choreographed dance in the "mosh" pit.
:D
They have a mosh pit?
Excuse me?!
*shakes head*
For those who don't want to know what's coming up in tonight's Top Gear, then by absolutely no means at all click this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00p1ny1
Sounds awesome though :D
Seriously, don't click it if you don't want to know!
youtube only throws up a rehearsal, but the dancers are there...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSDFhheI2ck
*joins in head shaking*
Mind = crying
if I was Mr Hakkinen I would sue.
I would pay serious money to see Mika Hakkinen singing Mika songs but then I wouldn't want to rid Mr Hakkinen of his dignity
#sidepodspace
One of the US astronauts became a father whilst out in space. I bet his wife wasn't impressed he missed the birth by a week. He doesn't get back to earth until Friday!
I wish I could say "when I was born my dad was in space." Although, maybe he was, I don't actually know where he was. I assume he was in the room. I've never thought to ask.
:D
I opened Twitter and two-thirds of the way down my Timeline, there was a dialog box with "Wondering who this person is?" (It was the first time the new version of Re-Tweet has affected my Timeline).
My first thought was "No, actually, I think I can work it out for myself."
You see, it was a tweet from Juan Pablo Montoya. I may possibly have heard of him before.
:)
i very much dislike that new feature.
I;m still a littke unsure how it works. It doesn't appear to retweet, just... kind of.. likes a tweet.
they took a really good community idea, muddied the waters and caused confusion for no good reason.
uber cute
http://adrinael.net/cureall.jpg
oh lord.
I has a train to catch. Back in 4 hours. Booo
Byeee
see ya.
T'ra chuck
Oddly, even though it's working, the doohickey status appears to be jumping between not connected and connected?
yeah, i done broked it.
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/22/daily-22nd-november-2009/#comment-601178
Ahhh, oki doki, Was getting a bit worried about my screwy internet then
Hmm, it's late, goodnight everyone.
night sir.
Indeed. He was also lip synching which seems a little odd considering its Australian Idol and it's all about "talent" {Comment #113}
All the singers on British reality TV (aside from the contestants themselves) seem to lip synch, so he's not alone there. Admittedly, I haven't watched a big sample of it, but from what I have heard, real singing occurs in places observed by fewer people.
I haven't been around to ask and when I have i've forgotten but what did you think of F1 2009 mr c?
Sounds like they're enjoying it from what I've heard.
hes very religious and the hillsong church vote a lot.
So its a popularity contest? I haven't taken much interest to be honest {Comment #153}
Yes. That's why I expect a pair of singers in the British competition who appear to be playing the show for laughs rather than as a serious singing competition will get to the final (but perhaps not win).
very enjoyable. i think it's in the show notes for tonights live thingy, so i probs shouldn't say any more.
ah, sounds good :)
pretty much. Not taking an interest is wise, the winners never really get seen again. The winner from last year did a free show in Melbourne last month and two people turned up. {Comment #157}
This is in contrast to the British equivalent, where the X Factor winner is guaranteed to be Christmas No. 1 (though this year the runner-up of Britain's Got Talent - a show whose rights are owned by the same man) - may have something to say/sing about it).
Tis a crying shame that the Christmas no. 1 is now reduced to reality tv shows though. :(
Absolutely, gone are the days of Slade & The Wombles dominating the Christmas Charts
Hello all, by the way. Putting lights on again, wish this weather would decide between lashing rain & bright sunshine
I remember when it was the Tellitubbies. I think. Were they Christmas #1? or just #1 for ages.
hey janna.
I;m still a littke unsure how it works. It doesn't appear to retweet, just... kind of.. likes a tweet. {Comment #272}
It means someone you follow thinks that his/her followers might be interested in that tweet. Which is fine if your tastes and whoever you are following are identical. Think of it as "Recommended Tweet".
Frequently they are not, though in this particular case it was a mildly interesting tweet and therefore justifiable.
Been heavily overcast and raining here on and off all day.
well, the xmas number has been a disappointment for about 30 years:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christmas_number_one_singles_(UK)
Mr Blobby "Mr Blobby"
Good times.
Hello
Queen and disappointment in the same sentence?
I miss Noels House Party.
I think those two years are the exceptions that prove the rule
:D
afternoon pat.
that was a re-release. but point taken.
Hey sir.
Hmm, wonder if the Last.fm application works on the 360 while playing a game?
I have an overwhelming desire to listen to Westlife. Booo Mr C, booo.
Only in 1991, I think it was the original in 1975
briiiiiiiiaaaan.
Nope.
Charts are over-rated when you can make your own at last.fm.
Ah, bugger.
Sadly all I can currently hear is "Two Little Boys" but will echo the Boo Mr C
Reckon they should integrate it so you can in a future update.
there was a clip of him on idol tonight. I thought of you.
my maths are pretty bad, but that's more than 30 years, right?
either way i meant to draw the line at "another brick in the wall".
I don't know why but so do I! Help!
hehe.
24 to be exact. So not quite. ;)
not to mention their site-wide chart where Muse is no.1 with Uprising (unfortunately there are three Lady GaGa tracks in the top ten)
They should but it's the same thing with twitter though, renders it a bit useless. Although I do like leaving lst.fm on my dashboard when doing work.
Twitter though is completely and utterly useless on the 360. Why leave a game and hunt it down on the dashboard just to tweet, then return to a game?
1975?
I like last.fm
Oh I thought you meant the gap between 1991 and 1975. My bad.
34 years ago that. Soo, quite. ;)
(hearts)
mind = blown :)
That song is sad :(
Although that top 10 does terrify me. Apart from 3 tracks of course.
You all know I mean the Lady Gaga ones. :P
You are correct to do so, my bad for not reading your original comment correctly. I do like that drawing this line means that Mud, Slade & Rolf Harris are not included in the disappointment
Its interesting because it shows 30,000 listeners played it 70,000 times.
Now I'm confused, isn't that 16 years?
what it says to me is "Amy, you are very out of touch with what is hip" #needsmorepearljam
Anyway, moving on...
:-)
:D
Nothing in the top 420 tracks but they are no.48 in the artists list..
am trying to decide what the worst song on that list is.
band aid II's effort might be it, but shayne ward's was fantastically forgettable too.
my flatmate was just giving me crap for going to see them because "they're old", but I pointed out that 50,000 others did too and it was the best attended live show in Australia this year.
She went to see THAT woman live. Her argument is invalid.
I think Renee and Renato win for me
hands down Mistletoe and Wine aka the worst Christmas song ever.
ahh yes, another talent show prodigy.
Did I miss much yesterday/today?
I am just catching up with Autosport..
i think his jacket was up there with worst christmas present ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMR4TpkSwyA
well, the xmas number has been a disappointment for about 30 years: {Comment #301}
Is this a good time to admit that I have the some of them? (Another Brick in the Wall - 1979, Bohemian Rhapsody and These Are the Days Of Our Lives - 1991, Too Much - 1997, Sound of the Underground - 2002 and Hallelujah - 2008).
Whilst time progresses forwards, does cliff richard progress backwards?
oh lord :(
there's a bay city rollers vibe going on there.
Good evening!
I am in a cafe next to ikea...I *heart* free wifi!
And i am still working!
you're a waitress?
actually the worst Christmas song ever was the time he put the lyrics of the Lords Prayer to the music of Auld Lang Syne. I'd just blanked it out of my memory since it thankfully was not Christmas #1 (thanks Westlife!) but now its back, and I'm scared to sleep in case I dream about it.
I dont think i would fit in the dress :P
I realised i messed something up this afternoon, so i am doing it all again in the hope noone notices ;)
Queen and disappointment in the same sentence? {Comment #347}
Any song that makes Christmas No. 1 despite not designed to cash in on Christmas is likely to be an exception to the "Christmas No. 1s are disappointments" rule. The litmus test for me is whether the song would have been released the previous Easter had it been finished to the same standard at that point. Hence why "Another Brick In The Wall" doesn't s an exception to the rule as well.
I will concede that the last three of the songs I have in my list do fit this rule; "Too Much" came to me via one of my brother's friends who needed somewhere to discard the album on which it came, "Sound of the Underground" sounded like a good idea at the time and "Hallelujah", for some reason, was a free download on last.fm earlier this year. I will concede that depending on my mood, I still like all three.
i'm gonna go on the record and say that was genius.
i wish i'd have thought of it.
I saw his calendar for sale here yesterday :(
between this and the liking of not-Hakkinen-Mika, I'm not sure I can ever come back to this site.
mistletoe and wine would be weird at easter.
Hallelujah - 2008
oh lord :( {Comment #349}
It was free so I thought I'd give it a fair hearing, having done my best to miss X Factor and therefore not having much clue what Alexandra sounded like. Melodically pretty good (though personally I prefer the Kate Voegel version because she sings it roughly like it was intended to be sung).
i don't think cliff came up with the idea, but i love that at the time mtv were running their "mashups" series. they were feeling all smug about themselves being able to mix nirvana and oasis together.
cliff came along and out-mtv'd mtv.
mistletoe and wine would be weird at easter. {Comment #359}
Quite :D
ahh fair enough. It was just far, far, far too religious for me. I am one of those people that Christians dislike because I love Christmas but prefer it religion-less.
as covers went, it was on par with all saints "never ever", to be forever marked:
"should have thought about the lyrical content before agreeing to cover it"
oops.
It's by Roger Jones who write Christian Musicals. I can't remember which one it's from but my Mum sung it & said it fits in the context of the musical, I just don't think it should have been released out of contaxt
*context
regardless of content, the concept was a pure stroke of genius.
Mr Blobby "Mr Blobby" {Comment #299}
I had a Mr Blobby towel for years after Mr Blobby went out of fashion. It was a good towel that didn't wear down even after a good half-decade of regular use...
Queen and disappointment in the same sentence? {Comment #301}
Only when the sentence also includes "X Factor contestant".
A half decade... are your eyes ok? I dont think that much pink and yellow can be healthy!
I have an overwhelming desire to listen to Westlife. Booo Mr C, booo. {Comment #309}
Worse, I have an overwhelming desire to listen to Blue due to this and I can't even see the link between that artist and this discussion (I'm not sure they've had a Christmas Top 5 let alone a #1, as a group or as individuals). No idea who to blame for that...
am just watching the video. even our very first attempt at chroma keying, using our own duvet cover produced better results than this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku7rLmJdmc0
surely he had a better setup than us?
http://sidepodcast.com/2008/05/28/the-magic-of-chroma-key-part-1/
There was a house in Brading on the Isle of Wight that was painted in Mr Blobby colours. I think there are friends who play practical jokes on each other & this was one. It was like it for some years
:P
F1 seems to have been a bit quiet today...
Perhaps its the lull before the big PK announcement :D
isn't he karting today?
I am so good at One Love on Singstar. No one wanted to take me on in 2004.
Or the big Schumi announcement, if Bild is to be believed.
Either way, it's the calm before the storm that is BGP + MercGP fate, I reckon.
Just dropping by to say hi. ;)
Hi Journeyer
Hello Janna. How's the world?
Dark, windy, cold & rainy where I am, how about you?
I forgot he was doing some of that...
Did he beat shumi in the big vegas thing?
Dark, windy, cold, and dry. it's midnight here. :D
Incidently, this mall has a massive ferrari store... i must check it out one day
he started behind schumi. not sure if they're raced yet?
i reckon he shunted with schumi and let buemi win. :D :D
ooh 3am, I'd better sleep. Those good sleep patterns I developed after I went to NZ are well and truly gone. I'd hate to be late to work two Mondays in a row :D
night amy.
ah...
right i have to go, hopefully getting a car this evening, which will hopefully make my life so much better :D
Night Amy
Night!
Bye Nick, drop a picture so we can see your new car
Night Amy.
I should be off too. :) Night, folks!
bye journeyer and nick.
Oh you have GOT to be kidding me stewards :(
Last lap of the race, last corner, in the lead with a Toro Rosso, my tyres have gone and im holding off the Toyotas and Alonso...
...and I get a drive through penalty. For no reason!!!!
Charts are over-rated when you can make your own at last.fm. {Comment #313}
According to my last.fm profile, my Top 10 for this week is:
1 - Seether (Feat. Amy Lee) – Broken (up 5)
2 - Infernal – Self Control (Radio) (new entry)
3 - Beyoncé – Sweet Dreams (new entry)
4 - Kelly Clarkson – Irvine (up 17)
5 - Savage Garden – To the Moon and Back (new entry)
6 - Murray Gold – Doomsday (up 15 from previous week's chart)
6 - Destiny's Child – Dangerously in Love (new entry, last seen at #1 from 20 September chart)
6 - Kelly Clarkson – Can I Have a Kiss (new entry, last seen at #93 from 19 July chart, which was down 39 from the 5 July chart)
6 - Evanescence – My Tourniquet (new entry, last seen at #93 from 19 July chart and was new to that week's chart)
6 - Mariah Carey – It's Like That (new entry, previously seen before 7 June)
6 - Madonna – Papa Don't Preach (new entry, last seen at #67 from 7 June chart)
6 - Gwen Stefani – Wind It Up (down 5 from previous week's chart)
Since the #6 songs are tied on 3 plays each (partly because PDA and hi-fi plays aren't counted), the difficulty of me generating an individual chart is illustrated.
It will be interesting to see what it comes up with for a Christmas #1, since I do have a Christmas CD collection.
What puzzles me about the above chart is that only one of my six most-played artists (Evanescence) is represented...
We're cooking enchilladas for dinner with garlic bread. Mmmm :P
either way i meant to draw the line at "another brick in the wall". {Comment #318}
Fair enough. Christmas 1979 will be 30 years ago in a few weeks, and boundary conditions are always hazy...
as covers went, it was on par with all saints "never ever", to be forever marked:
"should have thought about the lyrical content before agreeing to cover it" {Comment #364}
Well... ...I do have to admit that the last thing the line "It's a cold, it's a broken hallelujah" needed was a Beyoncé-esque melisma complete with bright big orchestral flourish - it's supposed to be the climax of a sad song, after all...
A half decade... are your eyes ok? I dont think that much pink and yellow can be healthy! {Comment #374}
I'm short-sighted, but that probably didn't have anything to do with the Mr Blobby towel since my parents had to pack said towel for much of that half-decade and didn't have deteriorating optical health in that time...
Is RG around?
I have a feeling he's on the floor of his house giggling in circles
My smile is as wide as the Pacific :D Soooooooooooooo happy.
Hehe :)
I thought it were a joke when it was mentioned on twitter!
What happened?
You want to know the results of the football matches?
Not at the moment! Thanks!
Okay, then don't check my twitter...
Afternoon all.
Just saw the score. Unbelievable
Sod it. Checking BBC now!
Wow. Were they good or the others that bad?
A big mix. We were what I like to say as, bloomin awesome. Wigan weren't that good, we just murdered them
Macau F3 race video clip. Guess what happened?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V26b5aecQs
Somehow the two things I've sent by e-mail to the drop today haven't arrived.
The first one which I mentioned earlier was my nephew being introduced to Scalextrix and a pointed F1 comment from his Grandma (Katherine's mum).
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-3493-mov
The second was from when I found a panda: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-3497-jpg
Hope everyone has been having a lovely weekend :)
Haahahahahaha, the Piquet comment!! :D
That is a stupid circuit. It's barely more than one car wide in places!
Lovely is not enough I don't think :D
Just like Monaco or Valencia etc
I reckon Big 'Arry and the squad been playing FIFA too much ;)
Hello people
Isn't it a bit tighter?
Aww so it's not your grandma :(
You told me about her and she sounds awesome!
Hi Bassano
Hello mate
Am still loving the Twitter Favourites site http://favstar.fm/
Gems such as:
The only problem with seeing if your cat likes espresso is now you're in the same room as a cat that's just had some espresso
Need to be shared
ah no not my Grandma. She's not quite up for running around after manic 2 year olds!
LOL great comment!
Don't think much to the circuit design - although it looks as though it has passing opportunities at least ;)
In some places maybe but they all have sections where two cars side by side won't get through without crashing. Trouble is all those young guys think one race can make their career so all their logic is abandoned in favour of ridiculous gambles.
hello!
That's because they are told that Macau is the signature race and that some F1 drivers have won it in the past...
That start looked crazier than a short track race on iRacing!
it was difficult enough trying to explain to him that the car had to go in the slots. He was convinced the slots were the track lines and water to put the car in the middle.
It's the only time now that all the top drivers from the top F3 championships get together. It should establish who is the best but often it establishes who is best at avoiding accidents.
Some big names have made their reputation there. A certain German once rammed a bloke called Hakkinen because he couldn't overtake him. Mika crashed out and the German bloke won.
That's pretty logical for a kid that age. Most of them would ignore the lines
*is not here* is the live show scheduled for 7pm sidepodtime? (just so i know an approx time to open my web browser) :)
So the Daily Post piece says
I think so
*will use brain next time*
thank you.
*is gone*
alex, i haven't caught up with all the comments yet, but amy asked if you knew the drop's email address had changed?
Yes. Glad you are not here yet so I don't need to shoo you
Is that for spam prevention?
It has?
Where is the live show held on the website
yup. drop.io recommended it. we'll just have to keep changing it.
There will be a new thread with video embedded.
Merci
Or, they could invest in some decent spam prevention magic. Just saying
How irritating
agreed.
Mr C where would you choose for hosting if price wasn't so much of an issue?
Quickly catching up with "Miranda" on the iPlayer before tomorrow's episode
Ah I didn't... I didn't keep up with comments very well either...
Cool I see it.
where?
Right hand side under the Audio Player
lost me completely .. on the home page?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast
Evening all! Are we still on for the Debrief at 7pm?
Sidepodtime allowing, yes
I'm being dumb tonight. Isn't that what it was always called?
The email address has changed for sending stuff remotely rather than uploading directly
It used to be [email protected] now it is [email protected] and it will likely change again when the spam starts up once more. We are still looking for alternative solutions.
Is the Doohickey working cos its acting all strange on my PC...
We are running late, obviously.
No worries, we'll be here
[Sets DVD Recorder for Top Gear in case of overrun]
Oh Dear...
It's normal
Why won't the Doohickey or LCLT work?!
What's up? Everything working fine here.
Are you using Ye Olde Comments?
Try restarting your browser after clearing cookies & cache
It comes on, but I can't see any comments! I am confined to the real old way of commenting! I'll check what its like mobile-ly...
Have you got something written in the filter?
Looks like I will be commenting via iPod, it works here!
I'll check once more in PC...
No, just says error on page at the bottom...
Have you tried another browser?
I am currently commenting on the Doohickey via my iPod Touch...I'll try Mac Safari...
Evening. I'm too tired :(
What have you been up to, not working?
Sorry. And Hello
Oh yes working :( BOOOOOO!!
what browser is on your pc?
no you're not :P
If you go to bed too soon you'll end up wide awake at 3am
Shut your face!
I miss you to?
Now that's a progression I didn't see coming ;)
:D
i dunno. you change you name to make a girl happy and that's the thanks you get?
IE 8 and Mac
Haha. I hadn't noticed!
I can see half the problem then ;)
And we get in trouble when we miss a new hair colour that's 1.37% different to the last one
mac safari...I am going mobile currently.
When do you think you will be live?
7 - 7:15? Maybe
I hope it's soon! Anticipation!!!!!
ish...
Outrageous!
It's what we thrive on :)
Mr C, can I have a shout out? Hehe...
always... if say something insightful (or call me a legend).
BFF Hussey ;)
Hello all, back again. I see the debrief is running on Sidepodtime :)
Hi Janna
Same as it ever was
*rolling eyes* fine! You are a super über legend...
heeh!
Safari has been a life saver twice. Great stuff.
Problems with sharing computers, you have the possibility of missing things.
Well done on the umlauts too
I've got an interview at the local fire station tomorrow which is very exciting but will need preparation.
Have a great Debrief, everyone!
:)
Good luck Alia
Are you gonna be a Fire Fighter?
That's scary..
This is a design I put together for the RWS Porsche Supercup
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4124880369/
#Forza3
Is it just me that thinks it odd that the word 'umlauts' has no umlauts?
Ooooh, thats a gorgeous looking car.
Hi all. Special hi to Nick in Dubai who clealry took my former name as inspiration :) won't be listing to debrief but well see. Just on the iPhone today so can't stream
Hey Red
does that mean I get the shout out?
Why thank you, RG. The logos on the skirts, front lip, rear bumper and windscreen strip are all part of the template livery which the guy who runs the series gifts everyone to work with. The number box was there as well, I just changed the numbers. :P
But the NewMan logo was all my work ;)
well, you can still be smart and insightful too.
i did use umlauts...isn't that über smart...
if you say something relevant or clever in the comments during the show you may get a shout out too ;)
Maybe its more
'The technical coeffeciants of 2 and 7 allow for the number of 4 to be inserted in the place of x, with 3 replacing y to create the formulae to continue on with the experiment'
sort of smart?
...this one goes up to 11.
:D
that is smart, how the heck do i work that into an audio show?
Just wondering where the debrief is being broadcast from. Will we still see the wonderful wallpaper at Christine's mother-in-laws or is there a new studio at Sidepodcast Towers?
Can you ask people to email a gmail account which forwards it to a drop email address?
'Whilst we're talking about Jenson making a smart choice or not, I know something that IS smart...'
yup. we're still massively disorganised at the moment.
oooh... remind me later, that might work.
That's a good idea, if it works
are you saying Jenson isn't smart? hehe
'Yup' to the former or latter?
bad wallpaper.
He must know something we don't ;)
I think we should put the wallpaper in our new studio when the time comes, just to fool everyone.
Did we see Booth's Q&A on Autosport?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80287
This I didn't know:
Chrome OS devices will be netbooks, will not include a hard drive, will have only solid state disks, will rely on specified WiFi chipsets/adapters for connectivity and must have full-sized keyboards, says Sundar Pichai, Google's vice president of product management.
http://www.macworld.co.uk/macsoftware/news/index.cfm?newsid=27807
:D
:D
Saw the tweet, haven't caught up with the weekends articles yet
tell them on the iPod Touch keyboard, hold the 'u' key down and a list of accents come up. Then select the one you need and voilá (I don't know if that actually has an accent or not!) :P
am not a fan. microsoft can't bundle a browser, but google can?
evil.
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/22/live-will-they-ever-learn/
She wouldnt let me be nasser!
Close, it's voilà
Can't blame her on that one :)
M$ do kinda have a large monopoly on the OS market
Doesn't matter. If Apple and Google can bundle, MS should be able to. People who want to use other browers know where to find them.
They do, on the voting card when they install Winblows 7
I have no idea what that means.
apparently, when you install windows 7, you choose which browser will be installed first
ah ok
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/10/16/safari-for-windows-receives-prominent-placement-on-microsofts-european-browser-ballot/
It's weird going from LCLT where the new comments are at the bottom to Doohickey where they are at the top. Eye adjustment in progress.
*Jumps back into the daily* :)
Hold your computer upside down?
ah wait..
I think it's done on purpose to differentiate between the two?
Oh my gosh. I just moved the LCLT to the daily and all I have to say is OI!!!!
What's up?
As are the pandas ;)
Everything I look at, people are teasing me :( One of these days I'll run away and not come back.
iplayer is down for maintenance... that's just not right..
You wouldn't last five minutes in other fora then!
iPlayer is shooing you now too?
Hahah it's not that kind of teasing!
it's not fair.. i was only going to listen to the radio..
awwww Alison.. they love you really, they are just being boys and annoying ;)
#pleasedonthurtme.....
Top Gear warning for Lukeh - there is a Muse song in one of the features ;)
I blame Nick. I haven't read many comments today so I have no idea what has been said.
Oh fair enough then!
i actually haven't read back through the comments but im sure nothing was meant to be hurtful.
My Muse sense is tingling.
I think it might be coming from Sweden... ;)
Have you been bitten by one of them?
It's not hurtful as such. I'm beginning to find it tiresome.
I think so
hmm. in fairness, you've carried out some rather public "flirting" via the comments, and people appear to be simply responding to that.
Off to bed, work in the morning, looking forward to getting the debrief on iTunes. Take care everyone
Night Janna
so am i!
night janna.
night Janna :)
looking forward to getting the debrief on itunes or going to sleep? cause if you're going to sleep at 9:30 i may just faint with amazement..
eh? at 9pm?
:)
looking forward to the edit. pulling something out of that mess will be a masterstroke of editing.
Can you guys do a debrief evry day? It was better than breakfast radio :D
Lucky you have a master editor to do the editing then :)
haha. we would die / kill each other.
Evening all. How was the debrief?
I believe thats how sidepodradio started.
Now there's a thought - presenting a Breakfast show but for a different time zone, so no need to get up early.
It went so smoothly and well that we're all in denial as to how well it went :P
Worked well today ;-)
aaaaahhh okay.. that makes much more sense. christine is a master editor so i'm sure she'll do a perfect job as always :)
:D
...wow.
Cool. I'll catch the replay later
That is an awesome idea. I am surprised people don't do that
yay iplayer is back! phew i was getting worried ;)
All i needed were stupid trafic updates, but I'm sure you could make them up
queues at junctions 2, 4 and 9. there a lorry overturned on the highway and the traffic lights have broken in the west of the city?
i can imagine it now...
'and as usual the roads are a nightmare this early in the morning!.. i suggest going back to bed and spending the whole day inside. Outside is bad for you anyway'
:D :D
Phew, close enough. Lucky I left early!
night guys!
see ya gavin.
night! :)
:)
and the inane cheesy fake DJ voices
give Mr C two cans of red bull (or one of the huge cans) and i'm sure he'll probably be up to doing one of those ;)
I was just reading yesterday's comments.
Lou, I went to Southampton for uni to what used to be called Southampton Institute (now Solent?). It was a good place to get used to being independent because while it is a biggish city, the middle is small enough to get around reasonably quickly. I wouldn't say it is a spectacular place though.
night
thank you Pat! I'm considering going to see Southampton Solent, The photography course looks great, it's not too far away from home, it's close enough to be able to get to brands when i want to get some photos, it's easy to get to london from there.. and they have x2 amazing trips that are part of the course, one to paris and one to new york..
There are circuits closer to Southampton than Brands. Thruxton must be closer for example
Hi. You're listening to SidePodRadio. It's fourteen minutes past...
It is a good location. I also looked at Portsmouth but it didn't grab me at all.
My time in Southampton was very mixed for all kinds of reasons, my sister really enjoyed her spell there though.
ahh.. but Brands is closer to home. so i can stay at home and get pictures over a weekend.. or use going home as an excuse to go to Brands :) i can go to Thruxton too :)
Thruxton is about an hour North, from memory.. I only went once while I lived there though. Perhaps more importantly, it is only an hour or so from Goodwood..
Heheheeee, you're in for a treat with Top Gear. Really funny :D
I'm the same actually. Solent was my secondary choice for uni.
We could do 12 consecutive breakfast shows for sidepodradio for 12 different time zones. Sidepodradio around the world. Well half of it.
the best photography course i've found i think is in Falmouth.. but i know i wont be able to cope with living that far away from home, plus i want to be closeish to london so i can see new exhibitions, as well as hopefully getting my foot in the door of a photography agency..
Being kicked off the computer now, see yas all. lotsa love.
see ya :)
Night RG
bye
ooooo!!! wont goodwood FOS be during the holidays though?
I just checked the F1 and BTCC calendars for next year and the Thruxton round clashes with the Malaysian GP. That's annoying.
ahh, yeah probably is
yes, but the reunion's in september
reunion? is that the same as the revival?
that's it. sorry!
revival
Sounds good. I didn't think I could cope living far away from home which is why I chose to go there.
Right. Doing my first full race in F1 2009. Starting on pole, so wish me luck!
isn't there a tate near there? tis lovely, worth at least considering.
I can't get it.
Have fun. When you say 'full race', do you mean actual full length 90 minutes??
There's one in St Ives and a lot of artists swear by St Ives because Cornwall has light like nowhere else in the country.
*pauses* Yep. Button got me at the start, but I just got the place back.
didn't know that.
When I went on holiday to St Ives our chalet got robbed :(
Lovely place though. Apart from the whole robbing stuff.
there is one in St Ives?. yeah.. it's one of the best uni's for photography too but it is just so far away. i can barely go away for a week's holiday without feeling homesick. living on my own, with loads of new people, being so far away from home for such a long period of time is unthinkable. Uni is going to be a big enough step for me already as i'm really not good with change (you may have noticed). I like the idea of living close enough to be able to pop home over a weekend if i really need to..
i know alot of artists love it down there, and from photographs i've seen it just looks stunning.. but it's soooooo far away. maybe i'll persuade mum to take me down to Falmouth during the Christmas holidays so i can have a look.
southampton's not on your doorstep either? plus when you can drive, you'll be able to go 140mph on the a30 like ross brawn :)
#badinfluence
So this is what SPC looks like on iPhone
Hello All.
I'm sorry I missed the debrief. It was very hot so we didnt get much sleep. I set an alarm but just turned it off when it sounded.
Southampton is closer... i could get home in a day and not be shattered from travelling.. hmm driving isn't a good subject to talk to me about at the moment... not sure i'll take my car to uni though? petrol is expensive..
hehe very.
yay, you has an iphone!
first time?
If you're not taking it with you, you should probably sell it :(
how far are you from the coast, you could get a boat and sail home :)
Have blogged about iPod/iPhone game I lurve: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/11/22/still-loving-traffic/
Apologies to non-Apple fans.
why? i'll need it when i come back for holidays etc?
i'm about 30mins from dover... 20mins from folkstone.. fancy giving me sailing lessons then? ;)
thats the fastest i've ever driven. i need a faster car to finally break that record.
That's an expensive holiday!!
sailing is easy, no licence required.
you just need a boat.
And somewhere to keep it.
i mean when i'm back in kent during the times i'm not in uni.... i'll need to get around somehow..
so i take that as a yes? :) awesome.. when are you free? :P
lukeh goes bilingual:
http://f1bloggen.se/2009/11/23/codemasters-formel-1-spel-till-wii-och-psp-ute-i-butikerna-nu/
if you can find a boat, anytime ya like.
I know. I understand. Thing is, you're still taking the hit for the depreciation on your car and the insurance, maintenance etc for 3 years in return for very little driving of it. If you don't need it regularly, you might well find you're cheaper getting taxis around in the holidays than keeping the car all year round.
Lap 10: Just lapped Nakajima :)
aaaah that makes sense am with you now. i think the idea may be that Mum also uses my car while i'm away as she currently finds my car nicer to drive. but i take your point :)
She lives next to the busiest shipping lanes in the world so maybe not the easiest place to start
awesome... who's going to pay for the boat?.. lol :P
madness!
don't look at me, i'm just the skipper.
sink or swim...
...so to speak.
What's worse is I'm playing career mode, so I'm in a torro rosso! (penalties and damage are off though...)
am starting to think that only Steven cares for my welfare.. you just want a boat :P
surre... (has no idea what a skipper is)
They just want you to live comment your ship sinking for some entertainment.
something you eat for breakfast? :P
they want me to buy a ship??
ships carry boats
Or get rammed by 50.000 tons of ferry
bugger.
Booooo notch it up to hard mode with them all on. Tis fun ;)
maybe later...
i'm not coming round for tea, if you're just gonna show off.
You say fun, I say impossible.
with a 'hyper on red bull' mr c... sound fun!
I see. I'm obviously not familiar with the terms. I don't get the difference..... Is a ship just a huge boat?
Can we get qik too
we can out run them.
Unless it is a submarine which for somereason is always a boat regardless how big it is
i've always wanted to die in an exciting way... :)
it'll be fine (except during weekends like this one).
Presumably you want to be 19 more though
My sister and I once went out canooing on the Mosel and we got to the middle of the river and she decided she was too tired. We started to get swept away. The instructor had to chase after us and tow us back to stop us getting washed away. It was so humiliating.
Water is dangerous!!
surrre...
#helpmechristine .... :D
yes. that's true... i'd like to get into f1 photography first.. lol
#outsideisbad
I was only in a canoe once. It was all going really well for the first couple of minutes until I started thinking. I realised how stable it was and started wondering why it wasn't rocking around as I paddled. I decided to see how stable it was and it turned upside down and threw me out.
the quoted phrase of 'ships carry boats' is how I remember it (grandad was in the royal navy, dad was in the royal australian navy). Yes, ships are just big boats, but ships carry life boats because 'life ships' would just sound weird :)
Exactly. There are lots of exciting ways you could kill yourself as an F1 photographer
exactly, a friend told me that she could see me being killed by an f1 car that crashes into the barriers that i'm standing near... i said as long as it wasn't Piquet, or Grosjean i wouldn't mind.. lol
we sprung a leak on our first family canoe trip. I don't remember it as being horific though - just an great adventure.
wow! that doesn't sound particularly pleasant..
on the subject of F1 photography, how long should i leave it before reminding Lorenzo of my existence?
My problem wasn't falling in as such. We were at Loch Doon in July so the being Scotland the water temperature was about ten degrees. The water looked about 4 feet deep so once I realised I was upside down in the water I decided to flip over and kick of the bottom. Unfortunately the bottom was not bottm but vegetation. By the time I had tried to kick off it a couple of times I was further down and panicking. Had I known I was in deep water I would have been fine but I didn't
Lap 20: pitted 3 laps ago, and have lost a place to Vettel, who hasn't pitted yet. I'm catching him though
Have you seen anything he has published recently? If so it may be worth sending him an e-mail saying how much you liked it and oh by the way remember me
How can you comment and race?
2 weeks? You want to sound keen, but not desperate. I assume
I pause it.
This game is obviously not realistic! There's no way to beat the Vet in the pits.....
listen to Steven. Clearly he has recovered from his canoe mishap.
sadly not.. his website hasn't been updated for a while either.. the last email i got from him was back in september, he said he'd contact me and help me when he got back from the Asia races. I emailed him saying thank you etc.. and haven't heard anything.. it's been what.. 3 weeks since the end of the season now?
hehehe :)
perhaps he has been in Macau this weekend?
he's probably in macau?
F1 Racing? I know he has a lot of pics in there normally
Mr C, the status at the top of the doohickey keeps flicking between connected and not connected. Is there something up with the site? It could just be my connection though, we have gale force winds.
ahhh had no considered that. i shall check LAT's website and see what their most recent images from him were :)
I learned not to go back in a canoe. The closest I got was sand yaachting
f1 racing is the last time i saw any pics from him, he's their principle photographer. Some of his pics are in Jenson's book i think..
my uncle nearly killed me in one of those, great fun though!
have you tried white water rafting? it's absolutely brilliant! with a proper life jacket on, when you jump, or get tipped out, you just bob around like a cork
Tell him about his pics in Jenson's book then
aww i should never be allowed on LAT's site.. it's amazing..
look! young Jenson! aww
anyways.. i found out he took the shots of Jenson's factory visit to Brawn a while ago. I was half hoping for him to show up at the book signing but he didn't. i saw Andrew Ferraro though :)
"I was talking to Jenson the other day at his book launch...."
I had seatbelts and a crash helmet and my head was well below the boom. Landed upside down quite a few times but I was belted in and the rear axle was so wide there was no way of being hurt. The closest I managed was when two of us were running up and down some hard wet sand close to the edge of the sea as the tide was coming in. What we didn't realise was that our bit of beach was a bit higher than the bit behind us until we found ourselves on a rapidly decreasing dry patch surrounded by sea. We had to just build up as much speed as possible and aim for dry land.
That is on my list. The trouble is the older I get the bigger the list becomes. I always thought it was meant to work the other way
you need to work for haymarket, you'll get access to the whole archive.
Who he?
An interesting clip from a local football match yesterday for any fans of referees. The rule that matters is that if one team goes down to 6 players a match has to be abandoned.

My house isn't the most convenient for a tourist visiting Australia, but I have a spare room with a double bed.
Any Sidepodders coming to Australia are welcome to stay.
he's a photographer that works for LAT. I knew i recognised one of the photographers and it wasn't until i got home and saw some of the photos on LAT from the book signing that i realised it was him.. he often has images in f1 racing too i believe.. i see his name a bit.. not as much as Lorenzo's though
:D
he also used to do alot of the photography for Williams F1 i believe.. but this year Williams have been using a variety of photographers (i think all from LAT)
I love Traffic is very addictive
I don't see myself making Australia for at least a couple of years but that is a very nice offer
Stuart has a picture of him! :) i knew i'd seen a picture of him somewhere :)

Lap 30: Back in the lead. Gaining a real appreciation of the Albert Park Circuit.
it would be an honour. we might need throat lozenges and some sleeping tablets though - i'd be a bit too excited.
I think someone should build a stalker game based on you
reminds me of this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V3SqxUomwk
not sure what i'm looking at though?
that guy getting carried off towards the end - his knee did not look good!
Finally found the English version of the HWA site http://www.hwa-gmbh.de/english.html
They run Paul di Resta's car. That's another seat he could get.
i wish i could remember history and psychology like i can remember f1 and photographers. would make my life easier..
I posted a link about 2 minutes after you posted the original in the Live thread!
;)
which reminds me of Seinfeld (blacklisted at Hop Sings episode - you're on our list Benis!)
PS. is that from the F1 related David Croft?
i saw it. someone's going to have to explain the implications to me though?
hehe. no.
I was referring to Steven in that comment. But it's good to know someone did notice ;)
How often have you seen a goalkeeper sent off, his replacement sent off before he gets the shirt on and someone else sent off all resulting from the same incident. It is definitely one for football fans. The consultation between the referee and the linesman is because the team in red only have 6 players on the pitch so the match had to be abandoned when the team that scored from the penalty just took a 3-1 lead with very little time left. Had he not sent one of those players off they would have won but now there will be all sort of disciplinary hearings
Not sure what happened to his as I was only sent that clip but it doesn't look too good.
:o why oh why didn't i go to the singapore GP! money is an annoy thing when you don't have enough of it.
ahhhhh. got ya.
Lou ...
Have you looked at UWE for photography.
http://courses.uwe.ac.uk/w640/2010
Course was well thought of when I was there - there are ops to do units from other courses in the same faculty, including film and tv amoungst others... plus really good links to industry and the op. for placements with places like Future and Haymarket (alumni from UWE both pretty strong in those firms as well :-) )
That's why you should do photography because you will remember everything and people with think you have some kind of computer in your head
I was too busy trying to find the bit on Joe's post at that time I think
Can't wait for the open day at Norwich Uni College of Arts. I'm actually contemplating the Film and Video course over the Games Art and Design.
Are they not offering a joint? There was some talk of it a year back....
ooo no i haven't. They never turned up to any of the art fairs i've been to, and it never crossed my mind they did photography..
No. This David Croft wrote a load of popular sitcoms and must be pushing 80 now
I don't know, but the film and video stuff seems to appeal to me more.
drugs at college? well i never! :P
First there is the Merc connection.
I posted this section from Joe's post at the time but I guess you missed it
Two years ago, when Wolff bought into HWA there started to be rumours that the company would like to be involved in Formula 1. To explain: HWA was set up by Hans-Werner Aufrecht (hence the company name HWA). Aufrecht was the founder in 1967 of AMG, which was established to tune Mercedes-Benz machinery for higher performance. As the Stuttgart company became more interested in the sport and in performance road cars so AMG expanded and in the end Aufrecht was bought out and AMG became a Mercedes division and brand. HWA took over the Mercedes-AMG entries in the DTM. It later expanded to be the provider of the Mercedes-Benz Formula 3 engines, which of late are being to referred to as Mercedes-HWA engines. When Wolff bought into HWA there were the first rumours that the company would like to be in Formula 1 as a secondary Mercedes-Benz team. His aim was to expand the company. HWA currently employs 224 employees and has not only static engine test rigs but also transient dynos. There was also talk of engine deals in America.
Because then you would not be able to do Europe
Oi!!
Or am I the only person to have gone through college/uni without an interest in anything of that nature?
i wish they'd do a formula 1 photography talk in London..
A university that feeds into Haymarket? That is like Xmas
They never do - its always a well subscribed course regardless. I'm not sure who the current tutors are, but (mumble) years ago we had lecturers from all sorts of places, inc. a chap whose name I forget but who was also picture ed. for the telegraph....
a) why would frank be interested in a selling shares to an individual who's connected to a rival team?
b) is there anyone in f1 not linked to mercedes?
never tried, never will. I am a square, and proud of it.
Lol. Its what happens when their grad scheme took 3 peeps one year, becomes self perpetuating after that. UWE is very very good at keeping up with its alumni, and reminding them about their 'old college'
hear hear!
Paul Henri Cahier mentioned that Canon lends some of their equipment to professional F1 photographers.
well that explains how they afford them!
Phew that makes two of us then!
(mind you, as a teen 'mixing' with musicians, I saw too many trashed people to ever want to contemplate being anything but!)
Erk...
I forgot...
Evening all :-)
*waves*
hello :)
sounds familiar. for me, having no rhythm might also have had something to do with my career choices :D
i knew f1 photographers often got lenses from their agencies but never the actual company :) tis why they all have canon and not nikon :)
you know Steven was saying there are lots of exciting ways to kill yourself when being an f1 photographer... i think i've just found another...
is the whole HWA thing about Frank getting Mercedes engines one day, or is there a chance he might want to be bought out completely, but only if the team gets to be AMG?
yikes...
Presumably he is looking to sell the team before he dies and he will want to get it back to where it should be by then. Everyone believes the Merc engine is the best and most teams want it. He is now in a position to have a long term partnership agreement like McLaren have with Force India. When McLaren make their own engine presumably FIF1 will use that freeing up more Mercedes motors.
HWA have connections with a lot of sponsors who may fancy F1 and they have a way of testing young drivers and giving them a track program. Being on an F1 team young driver program with a DTM race program could be appealing to a young driver and the team know what they are learning and how they are developing. They will get experience of high tech cars and can be compared to established drivers
Now that is lens envy. Not just incredible equipment but incredibly free equipment
fair enough. last question then. frank says he likes being independent and not tied to a manufacturer. this seems like he's heading right back into that den?
Night all.
night Lukeh :)
It will still be an independent team but he needs an engine so he may as well have the best. HWA do their own (Merc) engines in F3 so they may be planning an F1 engine of their own eventually
night bud.
Night Lukeh
ooh.
Hi all, can't stay - just came to say goodnight. Missed the debrief, looking forward to the podcast..
So....goodnight,
Right - disappearing off to nod as well.... just popped in to plug UWE at Lou really, lololol (sorry).
Was good show this evening (what I could hear over loud people anyway!)
It's all guesswork though
Night lpg
hehe thank you! :) much appreciated actually. i have only vague ideas about where i want to go and not a lot of time to make up my mind. :) night LPG :)
night lpg.
goodnight LPG. Remember, it's Hip To Be Square!
Lap 50: Skipped lap 40 report, as nothing much new has happened. Am still in the lead, even thought I did a full 360 last lap. Worried the tires aren't going to last the final 8 laps.
Oh, and since lap 30, my engineer has said "you're building a good lead, keep it up!" every sector. It's getting on my nerves slightly...
oh lordy.
Should we just start calling it Formula Merc?
i think so.
No, but it is unusual
