I am slightly late with this daily post, as Mr C and myself were caught up playing the new Wii game. On the strength of Lukeh's review, we went out and bought it and then hijacked our inlaws for their console. Apologies for that. Elsewhere:
- Lou has written up a post about her experience meeting Jenson Button at a book signing in London. It's a really great read, if only for the bit about Jenson describing F1 photography.
- Whilst we are playing our game, we're also keeping an eye on the Children in Need telethon in the UK. Lewis Hamilton made a brief appearance, visiting a centre for disabled children, and playing some games with them. Button also popped up plugging the various ways you can donate. Good stuff!
- There was a small amount of F1 news yesterday, as Williams took on a new shareholder. Joe has written about this and as ever, explained what it really means, so it is definitely recommended reading. It's been a quiet couple of days, though, just as we hoped for!
That's all for now. We are into the beautiful weekend now, so as ever, let us know what you're up to and I will see you in the comments.
yay! i got a mention in the daily! ♥ Christine :)
anyone mention this while we were away?
...wonder if Susie Stoddart will get a test with Williams through the fact her boyfriend just brought a hunk of it?"
http://twitter.com/f1nonstop/status/5905188502
It appeared in one of the comments on Joe's post
ahh. v.interesting.
f1 on the wii is mental. how can it be saturday already?
sounds like it's the exact thing i need to avoid buying until at least the christmas holidays...
#sidepodspace update
There are two astronauts already camping out in the ISS airlock in preparations for tytomorrow's spacewalk. The spacewalk is scheduled to start at 8:18am Eastern/1:18pm UK. Unless the weather intervenes and deprives me of the opportunity to go out and offer advice to a football referee I will probably miss it.
The main activity is to take a 7 ton cargo carrier (ELC) which is currenty dangling on the shuttle's robotic arm and transfer it to the main ISS arm then dock it to the station so that all the cargo inside it can be transferred.
am now 5 hours behind. could be a late night.
when does the sun come up?
May
see... it would damage my alevels i feel...
according to the powers on the internet... 7:26am
I hope not because there are far more deserving drivers out there.
Baffles me how she remains in DTM. I know half the time she runs with previous years' Mercedes, but her racing career has been trundling though the foothills of averageness for sometime now.
Brilliant. I restarted career mode, blew Torro Rosso away with my driving at Monza, then in my first practice session in Australia I leave the pits, miss the corner completely and head straight ahead into the wall. Great start!
would a test hurt though?
Sounds like you'd make a great Toro Rosso driver then. ;)
:)
...shush! ;)
this is why i'm not buying it until the 2nd at least... (the other reason is bank balance)
Not as far north as Rockall though. Steven's comment is probably more accurate.
The US Navy reckons that the sun rises 0852 and sets 1628 on the 21/11
:D
:-)
Do you live in Denmark too?
plenty of time then.
gavin, you're still awake?
if the sun is your deadline then you are a vampire
Yeah. It's Friday and I'm popping in and out between iRaces...
once the sun comes up, people wake up, productivity drops.
LPG says "ouch, yellow hurty thing"
good man. now you're one of the cool kids ;)
that too.
Cool kids play Super Monaco GP :-D
ahh, one player games are for loners.
You can take it in turns and stuff!
:-) My eyes don't like it. But I don't like too much darkness either.
#HardToPlease
ahhh i got it wrong.. the thing Jenson was recording with James Corden was for Sport Relief.. never mind :) will have to wait till march to see it
What if you have a Wii and nobody to play it with?
i can't argue with that.
could be tricky to crash into each other though.
you saw him though, right?
If he's in his Brawn GP gear it'll be horribly out-of-date?
invite us round for tea.
hehehe i know! i even spoke to him! can you believe it! :) lol *i will stop talking about this soon*
What kind of kids play Geoff Crammond's original F1 GP game?
(i think i've answered that one in my head :( )
Well I go to my mate's house or invite my nieces over!
Old kids?
Night all. Going to bed to watch the latest US Office
am behind on everything, so apologies if this has already been linked to:
Mark Webber stalls at the first two attempts. This is not a good sign. He holds 5,000 revs, drops the clutch, the sound is like a stuck drill... Finally the rear wheels spin and he's off.
http://www.metrof1.com/blogs/metrof1/2009/11/racing-under-supervision.html
night chap.
yep, from the various things i've read on the internet it's like a small funny sketch about Brawn GP and an inspirational member of their team :)
night Andy
haha.
i mean, did you see him tonight on CiN?
Consider it done. I've got pizza, doritos and beer.
bye
sold!
oh.. yes. he did a little feature asking everyone to give some money.
night Andy
just checkin :)
okay :) lol unless i'm suddenly hearing him and seeing him on tv then he was definitely there :) lol
Forgot to add that I came home the other night to find my wife playing wii fit in her pyjamas... I was so proud :)
Bedtime for me. I don't want to but I have to. Up at 6.30am to go to Bristol for a study course which lasts from 9 to 4.30.
6.30 is more than an hour earlier than I get up for work. Ugh
Then off to my 13 yr old sister's birthday party. Lots of kids that age running about, I will show my face for a couple of hours then disappear I think :-) Saw her on the b-day anyway..
night Pat
night Pat :)
trouble is the only mates interested live miles away
So you're not even awake when I start work at 7:30 (CET)? Wow.
see ya sir.
See ya Pat :D
Right, last iRace of the night... see you in half an hour ;)
I start work at 9 and it is 15 minutes drive from here, there's no need to get up until 7.45 (more likely just after 8 and a big rush).
okay, time for me to sleep. i'm shattered. night all xx
You actually bought the game? Nice! Me thinks I need to get in on this Wii shindig.
bye lou.
night Lou who met and talked to Jenson Button
heeh!
Do you think we should hold an F1 2009 Wii championship, but actually all race at the same time? Set the clock in the FBFB to a countdown, then when it hits zero, we all start the race at the same time? Could work, just sayin'.
seems reasonable. not sure i could last a whole race though. i was 20th after 1 lap. 3 at a time was more than enough for me.
Maybe not a full race distance, but quarter or 10%?
How about 10%? It's normally 5 or 6 laps, and includes a pit stop.
sounds good.
Is it possible to run manual gears? And how do you accelerate and brake?
You can tell I've never raced on a Wii. Like, ever.
Yes, but it's near impossible! If you hold the wii remote sideways, Accelerate is 2 and brake is either 1 or b. Gears are up and down on the arrow pad. (KERS is the a button)
yes. but the gear icon is too small and too far right to see it and the track at the same time.
2 = accelerate
1 = brake
right = shift up
left = shift down
I like a challenge. ;)
...
...
KERS?????
Apparently every car has KERS in the game. Yes, even the Brawn.
:D All cars have KERS. From Brawn to Force India.
lukeh didn't mention it in his review.
and we didn't read the manual.
doh!
is it too late to have another go? i might be able to get 19th...
Might not have found it. Or he might have forgot!
Right, time I was off. Morning, good people :P
Good night all!
night bud.
night Gavin
The Singapore folk have finally replied to my email, they say that they won't be taking bookings for September until late July. Which sounds odd considering last time I booked in June and got the last bed.
morning/night Scott
night you too.
lack of organisation ftw?
:D
Right, I'm off to bed. Prob won't be online much this weekend, but I'll try and make it for the debrief. Night!
night Chris
Amy,
How was Pearl Jam and do you have a tattoo now?
amazing, and no :D
I thought no-one would talk to you at the concert unless you had one
it did seem a bit that way at first, but after queueing for 3 hours, anyone will talk to anyone.
Shame you had to queue so long
it was worth it though to get so close to the front. Eventually all the drunk idiots from the general admission further back tried to push their way to the front, and they were deliberately looking for groups of girls to get through as the path of least resistance, so I got a bit battered, but the fanclub is pretty good at looking out for each other so all the big guys were trying to protect us from them.
Shame they don't put a barrier up to hold them back.
So did you manage not to over heat?
I did, the security guards were great because they were handing out cups of water throughout the whole show. They probably never reached the people at the back, but I got plenty.
Security guards providing water? You are spoiled
*grumble*
wasn't like that in my day
*grumble*
kids these days don't know how lucky they are
And do they appreciate it?
haha they don't do it at all shows, it's an Eddie Vedder thing, he is obsessive about crowd safety after some people died at a Pearl Jam show in 2000. Between every song he pleads with the crowd to look out for their neighbours and make sure everyone is OK.
luxury, that's what it is.
Can't beat the 4 Yorkshiremen
*stirs*
Huh?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FatHLHG2uGY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FatHLHG2uGY
He he.
Looks like a normal lads night out to me ;)
Just found out that it was not originally a Monty Python sketch although John Cleese and Graham Chapman were in it and possibly wrote it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eDaSvRO9xA
wow. new to me.
suppose I should get some sleep, in my hole in t'ground. it's absolute luxury.
goodnight all, see you around this weekend perhaps.
I used to dream of a hole in the ground
paradise.
Too dark and too early for a Saturday !
Indeed. This is ghastly. Just been woken up by cat action: when yowling pitifully didn't work, she charged up the stairs and dive-bombed the bed.
"Just been woken up by cat action: when yowling pitifully didn't work, she charged up the stairs and dive-bombed the bed."
Subtle....
Is her name Jordan?... after Eddie of course...
Now, I do have a funny EJ story, but it is utterly unprintable. Not here, not anywhere.
Don't leave us hanging like that, Stuart! Hehe
Hello to one and all.
Does it involve men's hairpieces?
(I should point out that I'm referring to the fact some folk believe the 'loveable' Irish rogue has an array of toupees. I think he has enough problems in the wardrobe department, let alone worrying about what rug to wear on his head...)
Hello Journeyer.
could you sum it up as a haiku?
What he said... ;)
I am having doohicky withdrawls, i am looking for an apartment, and trying to rent a car without being mugged...
Morning!
It is a wig apparently...
I wonder if it has a name?
Wiggy McWig?
But on a serious note, I've seen some daft hairpieces in my time, yet EJ's is fairly subtle if you ask me?
It does not relate to rugs...
For reasons of obscenity, no. I did do some Steve Soper haiku once:
I wanted to go left
But the bl--dy thing wouldn't turn
So I went right
Ah Steve Soper. Bloody cheat that he was!
gosh, I'm glad it was last night I was out and about, tonight it is raining in a very get-the-arc-ready way!
Just like Wellington?
nah, theres no wind ;)
I got homesick on Wednesday night - 80kph winds and driving rain. Bless.
If you guys want a laugh check out the link the Beeb have placed at the foot of their main F1 page, in Links to other News sites ....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/default.stm
Look at the Times article concerned...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/features/article6389527.ece
I guess they found a link to Jense and Brawn and failed to spot it related to May... this year...
would it make for a good first blog post?
Bad news, laptop not gonna be back for two weeks :(
Good news,I have the new F1 game for the PSP.
Afternoon.
good afternoon everyone :)
it's very quiet here today for a saturday, i suppose everyone is out enjoying the sunshine while it's still around..
oh no! is this to do with the charger problem?
yay! *must.not.buy.game*...
Sun? All we got is fog.
Aye. Its ruined.
ooh, first time i've seen the sun since thursday.. we almost have a blue sky too. it's kinda warm :) living in the south is great :)
:( noo!
Doing some housework before my family arrive to do DIY and have dinner!
Complete opposite up here :)
canya not get a replacement power brick from pcworld?
yay!
blog post / guest post?
Don't think so.
Can do. Nowt else to do on a Saturday :)
Hello everyone!
afternoon :) how are you today?
Most excellent. You?
Hey Mrs C
alright, better than i've been all week i think, feeling reasonably positive today :) am wondering if it had anything to do with the sun.. or the fact i've had loads of sleep over the past few days.
Afternoon all :P
afternoon :)
Hello Scott!
Sleep always makes things seem better.
when i get too stressed or worried i don't sleep much, must remember that i need lots of sleep :)
ace :)
I somehow managed to sleep on and off through most of today, I really don't know where Saturday went!
#sorryamy
hehe :)
Does anyone know how to play any a PC game in windowed mode? I'd like to do so with Grand Prix World :)
*tumbleweed* :P
i'm off to go have a nice lunch with a friend i haven't seen for ages! :) see you all later! xx
Bye bye.
And hello to everyone else.
hello people!
bye lou
Hola.
Hola ;-)
was "button to buy robbie's house" story discussed yet?
The 18th century Compton Bassett House near Calne, about a two hour drive west of London, was bought by the singer less than a year ago for £8.5 million. He's hoping for a quick sale so he can head back to LA.
http://www.metrof1.com/blogs/metrof1/2009/11/jenson-set-to-buy-robbie-williams-country-house.html
easily space for lou to hide out and not be noticed.
I hate my job. Please don't make me go back. Breaks ftw
I like the house, assuming I'll have the money to pay for the gardener after buying it...
it's character building.
emergency call. I have to move (make somebody to move, I don't drive) the car of a friend which is under a tree that it's going to be taken down...
see you
they should sell it to button with the line:
"a room with a lou"
;)
Groan!
Isn't that a bathroom?
:)
from the same site, i like this post:
Is EJ talking rot?
http://www.metrof1.com/blogs/metrof1/2009/11/is-ej-talking-rot.html
ah hoy hoy
eh-oh.
:D
Good afternoon
hullo.
Isn't that what the Telly Tubbies say :D
I'm Dipsy anyway .. glad I'm not Poo though
Ah so Mr.C is a teletubbie? Revelations dont stop this week :)
:D Best. typo. ever.
And I am tipsy
po!
Here's hoping he doesn't have a red bag too :P
:D
Oh *blush*
hehe.
Scott u wanna race on forza now?
i has a red honda bag.
Maybe I'm also la-la
In that case, that's alright then :P
acapella isn't one word?
I do like shattering all your illusions :)
As long as there's no constant swerving in front of me like last time, I might consider it.
as in singing? no idea
I never swerve
I defend, learnt it from lewis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_cappella
noooooooo
There's defending and then there's blocking. Defending is moving across once. From what I remember, you moved across my line every single time I even had a look. That's blocking.
Uh-oh time to read the gas and electricity meters .. huge bill ahead
shouldn't you be in front?
You would hate to play against me. I was pinballing round Monaco something terrible.
To be fair Scott I will use the excuse of bad steering, ok I promise no swerves
Hehehe, it's alright if someone's a novice. I can understand that :P To be honest, I'd probably be the same the first time I race on a Wii :D
Sounds like my iRacing experience!
Hmm, sure, bad steering. Anyway, we'll see. I might be on later, I'm a bit busy sorting a few jobhunting things out.
Ok I really want to race, I am suffering from car withdrawal symptoms after the end of the F1 season and the real chance of Kimi never being in f1 again
Ooh I'm a happy bunny £195 in credit hehe
Talking of the Wii game, I've read some comments on YT on some videos of the game saying that it looks rubbish. My argument is - it's on the Wii. It was never going to be 360/PS3 standard, but it doesn't look that bad.
Why not join a forum or a league? They'll hold a few championships and series and normally race every weekend or so.
Ok off to play a bit of xbox laters buddys
From what I hear, TORA might be your guys' cup of tea!
Heading out to watch some non-league football (yaaaaaaay), first time in ages. I'll have that blog post ready later tonight, but for now, see yas.
TORA?
see ya.
bye kimster.
get in!
Good afternoon folks
Mr C: I presume you've heard that the F1 Live Timing 2010 app is on offer till the end of the year?
£18 I think
Is that better than the official one?
Remember how I said that F1 needed to be more like Mario Kart?
I still think it would work!!!
I'm wondering if it would be possible to make up a ficticious F1 story and see how long it takes to be morphed to GMM
http://www.theonlineracingassociation.com/TORA/Home.html
Races with Forza 3!
Ooh, interesting. I'll have a look, cheers :P
It's late so I must be off, but first 12 Years On: Michael Hutchence, A Tribute
And goodnight to everyone.
Crikey, looking on their forums, there's a lot of championships!
Joe's blog is even better during the off season than it is during the racing
That IS the official one
Can we have a saturday thought?
"Grown men playing sim racing games isn't sad. Discuss"
Looks like I'm going to have to apply for a provisional TORA race licence. That place looks sound :P
Oops, I saw a link to a reduced price of £28 quid for it the other day .. has it gone down in price?
That was USD. This price now is GBD. Just the same, more or less.
Hi all.
Hiya
not sure it's worth it, i'd like to know if bernie will be doing anything to update his website before next season first.
it's more fun if grown women play too.
Are we using Deutsch Marks in he UK now? ;)
Ach. GBP! :D
Really, at a Pound a race? I thought you loved it
I'm just in stirring mode .. sorry
also worth pointing out that the man who created the iphone app has now gone to work for force india.
i don't have a lot of faith that the app will see much work doing to it now.
it's true. we had mega fun last night.
You confusing the terms 'grown men' & 'boys' as if they were different
It's a common mistake
I thought the Wii had left the building. Did you get another?
But if it works, incremental improvements may be all it needs
:D
their twitter account says it is fixing some bugs. let's see how much fixing they do.
went to christine's mum's.
I might plump for it as a Chrissy pressie for myself
Apparently they stole their inlaws' Wii. Naughty naughty :P
the seasons a long way away yet. likely wouldn't buy it the thursday before the first race anyhow.
plus i'm not planning to watch the practice sessions next year.
On the games front, I am liking Star Wars - Trench Run so far
no idea what this is? on the iphone?
Yup.
The X-Wing vs The Death Star bit from Ep IV's finale
speaking of which, somone convience me it would be good to stay without one.
Right, back to this week's Buzzcocks
Onl if you hate communication, productivity, fun, music and friends
I already have an ipod Touch so I can do everything except phone people ;)
Or use 3G data
if(!alreadyOwnTouch) {
purchaseiPhone();
}
That to.
my phone contract expires soon. which is why i'm giving it some thought.
oh... didn't account for that.
Sell the Touch on eBay to purchase phone
:)
You are such a geek it's unreal.
i might be coding spc.
Hmm someone else suggested that. I know I'll just end up not doing it.
?
Lost on me but I think that may be a good thing
As long as you don't get a Crackberry, you'll probably be fine
Seeing as we're on the subject of phones, my mum recently got a HTC Tattoo as a new phone. Good choice?
what about:
function james(indecision) {
this.ownsiTouch = true;
this.needsiPhone = true;
this.willBuyOne = indecision;
}
Right. We need to get you out more.
You've only just discovered this?
object-oriented james.
He has never turned normal conversations into code before.
You're going all HTML again!
Really, he didn't write your vows this way?
:D
Go get more cake ingredients and we can watch the results
Sports Personality ad on the BBC now
Oh dear me, I don't think my nerves could stand it today! :)
That's a shame
Is there a show tomorrow?
Yup.
Woohoo :D
Cool beans
hehe, love the title: http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/usf1-signs-j-lo-apparently/
I did a what the heck when I saw the title :D
It reads like this:
If (not already own Touch){
purchaseiPhone();
}
;)
Have you seen the announcement that Lopez is signed with USF1 pending him bringing in a tidy sum of $11m of which there is only a short fall of $2.2m. I seem to remember that USF1 saying it was no interested in what a driver bring in terms of cash just talent.
Which other "new" teams are likely to be following the same strategy for driver choice. Are we going to return to an era of pay drivers?
My views is that it is outrageous when there are some drivers with talent that never really had the full opportunity to show it in F1 (read Anthony Davidson) who could still be without a drive.
Source: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/lopezs-deal-with-usf1/
for example, like lopez....
we were talking about it one whole comment ago.
i prefer will's title though :)
:D
:D
Rich
The best bit of Joe's article is the quote from Peter Windsor on payying drivers...
yes. senna is one and was confirmed a while back, wasn't he?
Is he that talented? Googling did not reveal anything special.
IF kobayashi gets a drive, he'll probably be also...
is not hulkenberg, but he's not bad. problem is that he never had the money/sponsors to run in a top GP2 team, and then he run out of money and had to came back to argentina 3 years ago. he used to be a little bit wild and inconsistent also, which didn't help to his reputation.
African Time and Internet connections when posted these had not come through.
senna? i thought he was confirmed at campos?
hehe.
yes senna is
the IF was for kobayashi... :)
ahh right. got ya.
hey everyone :)
I really did not like the way Ferrari dropped Kimi - they always seem to get into my BAD books.
hey lou
Yo Gavin (if he's still about), thanks for the tip on TORA. Got myself signed up and already gonna be online with a few guys from there tonight. There's about 10 or so championships in the pipeline with everything from GT to touring cars to rally to NASCAR and also an F1 championship using Pug 908s.
I never really never liked the idea of budget cuts feeling the sport and teams could self regulate and cannot really remember the time of the "pay" drivers. It just seemed that it was not a highlight time in F1 history and we could be entering a period where the best that could be said is there will be a lot of material for the F1Rejects website.
wasn't that long ago. christine has watched pay drivers before.
maybe 3 or 4 years? justin wilson was a pay driver for example. he sold shares in himself.
looking back at comments...
he's buying a huge house in England?? wha?? why? surely he'd spend hardly any time in it! he already has a flat in london i think....
ahaha as if i'd ever survive being in the same place as Jenson for as long as that! :P
hehe :)
i may have kinda bought the f1 game while i was in town earlier.. i'm not going to play it till tomorrow evening though... i'm really not...
...
...
i swear i'm my own worst enemy..
that's not much different of how football players' market works...
hehehehe!!
I do not seem to think it was an ERA of pay drivers. Never really worked out if Justin was much good to be honest.
I feel like we might have been a bit of a bad influence here.
you can't do anything now. it probably started when lou joined SPC. ;-)
i think you'll probably find f1 has always had them?
sometimes more, sometimes less. i bet if you looked hard enough, to could find some quality people who started out paying their way.
random question, but this seems like a good place to ask, has anyone ever been to Southampton? and if so, was it nice?
My reason for asking is i'm considering applying to southampton solent uni, obviously i'm hoping to go check it out etc, but i was just wondering if anyone had any impressions of the place at all? (not the uni, the city)
i'll blame Lukeh don't worry ;) he won't mind ;) his review was just too good ;)
ollie lives there, might be worth a tweet?
i totally forgot! thank you, shall tweet now :)
I think it's rubbing off on me as well. I'm tempted to ask for a Wii for Christmas:
"Why do you want a Wii?"
"Because SPC has one. And Lukeh. And Lou. And Chris"
"Who are they?"
"Just get me a Wii, damnit!"
Jake's doing Final Score?
what's dat den?
you can consider that sato, nakajima, kobayashi, etc. are more or less in the group of paying drivers. they were there because the main sponsor (which happens to be also the the owner...) wanted to
Something to do with football scores.
You might have to be a bit more polite than that :)
and i thought he'd just take 4 months off.
"Can I have a Wii damnit, please?"
lucky (?) me that I can't afford it for now...
Better.
:D
very!
I still think there is a slight difference, but of course we know how Tim got his seat, Toro Ross got some extra bucks from a Spanish sponsor.
...and alonso got his because flav found a way to cream several million a year off of bernie's spanish tv rights.
I don't remember now, but the same probably could be said of Alonso and Minardi
I am selling my wii actually :) I dont like it, its boring
great minds :)
:D
if we continue this path we'll find that every single driver in F1 got there because of money, in some form or another (which is probably true...)
agreed.
i think maybe a son's of known drivers might be an exception?
make a kid (a.k.a. grown men/women) happy, give it away to somebody here :D
:)
So there is such a continuum of drivers with financial backing. But is Lopez any good... the best I can find is the following
"On his day he was bloody fast though, and held the GP2 lap record at Circuit Paul Ricard for a good few years. Considering that the championship conducts about 75% of its testing at the track, the fact that his time stood for so long evidenced just how speedy he could be… when it all came together."
Steven always says fastest laps are totally meaningless - so he still looks like F1-reject material together with the team.
sponsorship?
Sounds like a children (adult) in need advert!
yeah. just thinking that nico had a pretty easy ride in. didn't he?
You think the PK family fortune did not help his career?
piquet also, sort of...
easy but not as easy as PK
Nico has talent though, there is a differance. But loads of very talented drivers dont get into F1
well he had the advantage of a name and money. yet still managed to squander both.
I agree. But if he can put together that speed and the consistency he has now after 2 years racing touring cars, he'll be fine
Back to the question should Ant get a seat next year or does it simply go to the highest bidders?
Ant shouldnt get a seat next year, he is not good enough. End
What I saw in his record was not consistency.
the fact is that to get into F1 you need to be not only at least a decent driver, but also to find the money to show yourself. the number of lewis hamilton career can be counted with the fingers of one hand.
Christian Klien?
Depends, he was quicker than Ant overall, but he didnt put that pace in consistantly, if he did he is a very good driver.
Just got round to reading that link:
Renault however really have marked themselves out for not maximising the talent they had at their disposal through the RDD. They threw away Montagny and haven’t won a championship since dumping him as their development driver.
♥ Will.
not in his european record (actually he either was near the front or he crashed...). I'm talking of what he did after he came back to argentina. In 2008 and 2009 he has won two consecutive championships on the local equivalent of BTCC, and is running to win the other two main touring car championships this year
So logic dictates if they do take him back...
Did Franck win Le Mans last year?
thing is, why somebody like anthony can't find 12m in sponsorship if a guy from south-america, were the exposure in F1 count less, can?
Nope. Was 2nd this year though, with a broken foot.
I read that bit and immediately wonder what sort of returns Red Bulll has had.
After what you said in the podcast on the Mercedes Day I felt so sorry for Kovy - again it seems talent was somehow crushed rather early on - do you think he could rebound if he went to a new team? Should Mercedes actually consider him for the second seat rather than Robert (I do not like people who complain in open and after winning one race feel they should get the number 1 status - just my preference).
I have seen Lopez in GP2, nothing special, but is accident prone, so no-1 can use the Kobayashi excuse.
I personally think its either Kimi or Nick. My money is on Kimi though, the better driver.
A 19 year Spaniard was bringing in rather more sponsorship on a per race basis. Did he contribute to the sport? In my humble opinion NO!
I think Lewis did actually have the benefit of Ron's money from quite an early stage...
I do recall an article in the Times interviewing a youngster who competed against and beat Lewis when they competed together.... they both got invited to see Ron at one point.... this other guy was a not very attractive white guy, very scrawny with ginger hair.... definitely minus marketing material....
He had to drop out of racing as he had zero money but it was an interesting article... you had to feel sorry for him....
Please don't think I am criticising Lewis or saying he's not good... I am just saying he had other attributes as well as talent.... and that can really help a career.... and win friends..... and that there are a lot of guys who never get his opportunities...
PS The little ginger guy wasn't Ant.... but you have to admit that despite the fact that he's talented and articulate he's not a sponsor magnet either....
Mercedes have/will contact Kimi - even if you are not a Kimi fan (I am not really since like Joe I have observed that he was blown away by his team mate these last two seasons) but the marketing that Kimi would bring is huge. The decision will be Kimi's to accept, its can Mercedes make an offer attractive enough.
On the subject of Bob Kubes to Mercedes... if I were Ross Brawn I would be very worried that he was really really not good early season in a less than good car....
The only thing he has going over Nick is that he isn't German... and if Merc are looking for an "International" pairing that could help Bob....
I seem to always pick them, Nick, Ant, Kaz (on appeal not driving skill) - sure Timo has some sponsor magnet appeal?
he looks bad racing against lewis. as would almost anyone.
he'll be fine anywhere else.
It's clear Ross was on hols and had to interrupt it because the lovely Jense went peering over the garden fence and thought that he perceived greener grass.... so the Merc deal had to be announced early...
I have a feeling Ross will not look at the driver thing until he returns.....
In all honesty - I think it is the last thing Mercedes Marketing wants is an all German team - the only way to sell that is to the factory floor and to all the workers who are being short-shifted.
that's not true at all is it?
in fact the merc deal was announced later than we were all expecting, no?
I think Macca were kicking up a fight - look what they have lost? Mercedes want back its 40% share and Macca has to spin off a new company for its road car!
:D
that's been in negotiation for at least 6 months, probably more.
if anything it must've been mercedes annoyed at not being able to capitalise on brawn's early season success.
Amy I am joining you with now being a Heikki fan - oh and he and I have the same music tastes.
It all seems to have gone quiet on the "who goes to mercedes" thing. So I wonder what is going on?
Kovy will not be on Mercedes short list....
And that's good for him as he needs to be somewhere that look to him for safe and steady development rather than front running bravado....
If he finds that he may well be rehabilitated and come back stronger and better.... and suitable for a top drive...
It's ironic that Martin made so much of Macca really helping Heikki with all their sophistication... but actually all they did was break his spirit....
Peeps now forget that he did brilliantly well in the second half of his Renault season despite being up against Fisi who knew the team and Flav who was horrid.... that's what got him the Macca drive....
It's funny but he had a number of serious crashes... many more than Lewis... and usually not his fault... I wonder if they played a part....
That must have cost millions in marketing potential- I think they were p... off about not being able to sell their engines to Red Bull.
s
steven had the best idea. he though the schumi rumours meant kimi was in with a shot.
he reasoning was mercedes have no bargaining chip, so they brought in loud mouth jordan and his bbc friends*
*steven may not have put it quite that way.
true story!
Is this the longest silly season ever? Its exausting keeping up with it. There will be teams at Bahrain not having 2 drivers confirmed at this rate.
did mclaren pay the man in advance?
Jenson Button has bought a holiday home in Morocco. The Formula One world champion paid more than £5m for his new home.
http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/resources/property-news/miscellaneous-and-celebrity-news/jenson-button-buys-morocco-holiday-home/a-2-58-1976/
or his book is selling really well... ;-)
I think they will keep rumours going that MS or Kimi will join will not join negotiation is on, negotiation is broken off. Jenson left and I think he knows more than we know, it was not the money, and Jenson would not be fooled by the Macca glitz. He also knows Lewis will be tough to beat. If I were Kimi and I actually do want to drive in F1 next year I would be visiting Jenson to say Hello?
"that's not true at all is it?
in fact the merc deal was announced later than we were all expecting, no?"
Errrr.... No...
Ross was on hols and was either called back or stopped from flying off in order to pull the deal from Jense and to rush out the Merc deal....
Intrestingly the Robertsons used to be Jensons managers
do you have a source for that?
there was definitely something strange in all this. but I don't think Brawn's speed next year is part of it, they switched development in the middle of the year the new car, they should be pretty advanced by now.
"It all seems to have gone quiet on the "who goes to mercedes" thing. So I wonder what is going on?"
Ross is on hols as I have mentioned and they will form a list when he comes back....
He rightly says that the Merc seat is the only real game in town....
You also don't know if anything is going on in Macau when a number of key people are likely to be there on other business... the perfect smokescreen....
"do you have a source for that?"
Yes... the Independent interview he did before actually flying off...
I'll look out a link...
what the??? i should have been nicer to him on Thursday, perhaps he would have bought me a house!
ta. haven't heard about that.
:P
he has way too many houses.. Monaco, London, Bahrain and now Morocco... so unfair... lol
A lot of people have questioned whether this is not some sort of Bravado on Brawn's part. They were still introducing various new bits and were running out of money as they had no significant sponsors (eventually resorting to a sponsor for this race series). Where would they get the money to do both developments. In all honesty Rubens was not that much off the pace at the end than he was a quarter way into the season.
Here is the Independent article...
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/a-final-twist-in-the-road-for-brawn-1824841.html
Interestingly Ross flew off before the Button deal with Macca was announced... I guess he didn't think further action was required....
Because the decision wasnt in his hands. When Kimis manager went to Mclaren, Mercedes where there too. I think a decision was made then and there.
I think we agree there - but I think it will only be the fourth best team not the best - will that be good enough for Kimi coming off being second rate to Felipe for 1.5 seasons?
lord knows when I look at Jenson I say 'now theres a man who needs 8 bedrooms'
in theory the money for this year came from honda, or at least that's what I remember
It did some where around 150 million and they were running out towards the end.
"Where would they get the money to do both developments."
Ross is no fool and wouldn't want to be a one hit wonder....
If they didn't have good plans for 2010 he'd have ducked out of team principal for next year....
I think he was canny enough to keep some budget on one side, and cool enough to gambol that their clear superiority early on would see them through, especially as he could see Macca and to a lesser extent Ferrari helping him out....
"will that be good enough for Kimi coming off being second rate to Felipe for 1.5 seasons"
Rich I will ignore that as Kimi was disadvantaged in an understeery car and did brilliantly.... Ross would know better than to waste the most talented guy on the grid... and that is why Macca wanted him....
But I will say no more as you know my views.....
am i misreading the article in the independent? it reads as if the mercedes deal was announced and then brawn went off on holiday? where does it say anything was brought forward, or holidays interrupted?
I am not saying there was no development - but can it compete with the likes of Red Bull with DeSeb, Macca with Lewis/Button and Ferrari with its new boy Alonso? All teams way better funded and with apparently stronger drivers (Button might be the exception but the rest...)
"am i misreading the article in the independent? it reads as if the mercedes deal was announced and then brawn went off on holiday? where does it say anything was brought forward, or holidays interrupted?"
I read the brought forward and hols delay somewhere else...
Hmmmm.... I shall think where and let you know....
Anyway I think the driver thing won't be decided until Ross's return....
And Merc would not have planned a major announcement the day before Ross flew off if they could help it.... for no other reason than, in management terms, for the key guy to not be on site when the staff must be looking for reassurance and information is not well planned...
And Ross is too astute at man management not to know that....
completely agree.
"All teams way better funded"
Than Mercedes?.... I think not... and Ross would have known about the deal for some time...
"but can it compete with the likes of Red Bull with DeSeb, Macca with Lewis/Button and Ferrari with its new boy Alonso"
I think they feel that they coped this year with a less than stellar line-up (Sorry Lou) and we don't know who will be in the open seat yet....
It could be that the main competition will be Red Bull....
Macca have to do a lot of down sizing which will be hard... and it isn't clear that Ferrari really have got good engineering direction at present... Ross would know more about the current Ferrari capabilities than most and may not be worried....
Joe agrees with me about Kimi - the understeery thing is an excuse. The two most talented drivers on the grid are Lewis and Alonso and the team principals have now added Vettel to that list. Kimi's insistence on driving in only the best car is something of an admission that his recent lack of sparkle has harmed his CV. Were he to take the Mercedes and it is only the fourth best he would end up in no better situation than he was in this season with the F60. Finally Brawn would have designed a car with Jenson in mind - so it will be "understeery" to neutral not an oversteery car like Kimi likes! There is reason to believe that a car set up with as neutral as possible will be the best to cope going from supremely heavy to supremely light on fuel.
During this season while the 2010 car is being developed yes Brawn would be at a comparative disadvantage.
Rich..
I don't agree with Joe or you....
End of...

Right found the references re Merc being "jumped" into their announcement here....
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/11/button-and-brawn-now-its-getting-bitter/
And if you asked me if I'd be quoting JA last year I would have laughed, but his blog is pretty good.... just stay away from the TV please James....
The key bit is...
"The announcement of that [the Merc buyout] – via a hastily arranged conference call with German and British media on Monday morning – suggests that Brawn and Mercedes felt the Button defection was imminent and wanted to get their positive news in first. "
This should not have been hastily arranged if they really wanted to announce the news on Monday.... it would have been better orchestrated....
When evoking the understeery thing - I could say that was why Nick was disadvantaged in the BMW Sauber 08 car compared to Robert. Still the record book shows Robert beat Nick in 2008, now move one year on...
One reason why Nick could be good at the Brawn Mercedes is that he has a similar style to Jenson smooth and easy on the tyres - there is reason to believe that a more neutral car might be better when going from a heavy to a light fuel load. Again having to qualify light and start heavy is going to produce some interesting strategies.
nice one.
agreed.
interesting thoughts. good spot.
however.. Jenson has said that nothing was confirmed until tuesday evening... he himself didn't know he'd be leaving Brawn, not properly.. so how on earth could Brawn/mercedes have known? It was obviously a shock to Brawn/mercedes and it was, from what i've gathered in interviews, announced literally only hours after the contract had been signed...
also agreed.
I agree with you - Jenson' "defection" certainly sprung the Mercedes planning operations into play.
I think Brawn/Fry have to take some of the blame - we certainly got the impression there was not the money to pay Jenson -then all of a sudden Jenson goes to another team offering up to 50% less than was on the table (then got withdrawn).
They went on an instinct that once Jenson visited Macca they had lost their "family silverware" - hence Brawn saying Jenson was out of contract for having visited Macca head quarters.
"however.. Jenson has said that nothing was confirmed until tuesday evening... he himself didn't know he'd be leaving Brawn, not properly.. so how on earth could Brawn/mercedes have known? It was obviously a shock to Brawn/mercedes and it was, from what i've gathered in interviews, announced literally only hours after the contract had been signed..."
I think Ross knew that would be the result on Friday evening when this happened....
"After Button visited McLaren and made it public, with quotes from his manager Richard Goddard about Button wanting to be ‘”valued”, Ross Brawn made his feelings clear to Button in a phone call on Sunday. He withdrew the offer on the grounds of breach of contract, he told Bob McKenzie in the Express. “I was very disappointed at the way things finished up with Jenson,” said Brawn."
Withdrawing the offer left Jense with nowhere to go but Macca.... Ross knew and would have tee'd up Merc before he did that with Jense... hence the hasty Press release on Monday....
And we'll never know if Jense really wanted to stay as he lost that opportunity when Macca used him to showboat....
Good evening all :)
Hey Lukeh
"I think Brawn/Fry have to take some of the blame - we certainly got the impression there was not the money to pay Jenson -then all of a sudden Jenson goes to another team offering up to 50% less than was on the table (then got withdrawn)."
It's clear that the higher offer was on the table before Jense went to Woking and I can only assume that the "Not being valued" stuff and the public visit were Goddard's misguided way of getting the fee up even higher...
It would have been fine for Goddard to go alone, and quietly... like the Robertsons had earlier in the week.... as Macca couldn't have done the public Alan Henry article in that case....
Could be that Jense was, once again, badly advised....
We'll see next year....
how be tricks?
Personally, I think McLaren will be quite strong next year and Jenson seems to feel the same
We agree here. I wondered what would have happened if Macca had not decided to go with Jenson and turn around and said we will take the hairy one and give it a shave! Jenson would have been in a pickle.
Macca is going to be awesome next year their main worry is Red Bull not Mercedes nor even Ferrari.
Not too bad, bit of s tressful day though. Spent some time thinking how to outperform Bourdais in F1 2009. That said, that spend all 17 seconds worth of thinking.
I wouldn't discount Ferrari too soon
although.. he did say that history suggests that Mclaren will build a good car, he also said he didn't know anything about the car they have/are building for next year...
hello :)
"good spot."
Thank you me...
Funnily enough I have been reading all the articles I can find.... can't think why.....
(Thats because Im at Toro Rosso just to clarify)
I think I like the game too much
Harsh!
you can't be three tenths quicker? noooooo.
#sorryBourdaisatleastyourenotPiquet
*runs*
I thought you were no longer a fan?
Afternoon. I'm cold but happy to see some non-league football.
I'm not. But I have also seen Badoer drive.
This is a good point
It will be third best - but Ferrari is only successful went it can throw resources at a project - the FOTA agreements would have harmed the way Ferrari operate (and I think drove out Toyota who simply did not know how to operate with the required lower numbers of staff the factory closures etc)
Hullo RG
*wonders what the game would be like with badoer*
Maybe that's why it doesn't have Instant replays, as Badoer Time defies slow mo replays.
"Macca is going to be awesome next year"
I wouldn't discount them but I also believe the commentators who say that the need to downsize staff levels will hurt Macca, who have yet to start the process, and affect them more than Mercedes who are already at the correct levels...
Much pain still to occur at Macca....
When does this come into play - as I understand it the 2010 car should alredy be designed and the tooling and fabrication should betaking place? In Honda's case the huge staffing was used in the design and wind tunnel testing.
Part of me still thinks it will be funny if a commentator seeing the Mercedes doing well and referring to the HONDA DNA pedigree.
Sounds like a potential Legardism
Evening
What about the Tyrrell DNA? :)
Hey Mr Bunny
The funny bit is because it is HONDA DNA that Mercedes is inheriting or buying viz few people would think Hondas to be better than Mercs - the whole Silver Arrow thing was hugely nationalistic at the time.
Here is a video on the Silver Arrows - problem is they are not Mercedes....

Good evening everyone
Hi Adie
hi Adie
Hi Adie
It's very quiet tonight
Shall we be naughty?
Yeah, let's raid the fridge.
I thought about baiting Facebook people who comment on The Cack Factor but couldn't be bothered
Is there any chocolate in there?
Watching worse, but still, its in my nature.
Don't blame you. I'm not a fan of facebook or the cack factor
I really want the twins to win.
Just to prove what a pile of pap it is.
Evening all..
Had a crazy weekend doing a ,illion things, but I think i have finally found somewhere to live :D
Changed your name Nick?
yay! :) congrats to you. :)
If scott can do it :P
Woo, nice stuff.
Ooh hadn't noticed that either.
Settled in now?
even though alison disapproves?
What's he changed it too?
Is it to or too, I always get it wrong
i think she might object to nick's new name.
chief sitting-down is acceptable though.
To
Too = also or excessive
sitting down to what? .. the toilet!
a lot.
TY :D
Hehe she does?
I missed that!
Not yet... i paid my deposit in a dimly lit carpark at 9pm in cash...
I have to somehow get a load more cash out my account tomorrow without the bank freezing my card, then i can have the keys...
Oooh tricky, good luck
milkybar?
Ooo. I used to love Milky Bars. And Caramacs.
Can you still get them?
oh deary... i just found it...
I think i might have too...
perhaps i should leave it untill she can be convinced ;)
they are the foundation of our marriage.
so i hopes so.
agreed :)
:)
:D
Why .. its your name shouldn't you decide?
Yes, and there's a shop across the road.
:D
What about the fruit shoot drinks?
outside?
not so much!
#Balcony
lost me I'm afraid
Nick in Dubai is much better
he's dangerously close to flying over it.
You can't code Milky Bars to appear... yet
afraid so. One zebra crossing and i'm there.
have I missed something, are you and Alison an item?
i'll put it on the list...
Thats a bit #GMM :P
:D
Ill give it a go for a few days :D
Does gossip have to be true?
[Alison already has a fella btw]
Yes I know, that's why I wondered
See I remember the carnage caused when you lot found out my other half's called Amy.
Amy?
oh you mean Pineapple
I think teasing them has just been so much fun for a few
So glad my other half has a name most of you have never heard of.
Hmm. It continues...:D
as if we would.

Quite freaky
Is it Supris Lapin? (if she's French)
Hehe, i think she gets most of it from what i hear ;)
it's good but its not right :)

Is her name Roy Walker?
#sorryunknownname

Hello all by the way. Just spending lots at Waterstones, justifying it as my Christmas presents to myself. One of the books I bought is Joe's "The Grand Prix Saboteurs", they say it's in stock so I should have it soon :)
yay.
now can you please tell him it's in there, cause he doesn't believe that's where ours came from :)
I refer to my previous reply to strawberry :)
It pops up in the end credits of Strictly Come Dancing
(it probably won't now)
Hey Janna
MMIX?
bonjour Janna :)
tee hee

Good one

Your wish is my command - comment duly posted

I still have to read mine... i am currently lugging arund a bag with 14 books in it so it wont be any time soon!
#Ineedaholiday
You haven't started work yet!
Ive done a day!
...it was very tiring!
*cough*
4hrs
*cough*
Ahh, bless
Busted!
4 hours? Day? 240 minutes? Day?
(wishing my work days lasted 4 hours)
me too :(
well yes... But i had to buy a laptop too..
What did you get?
Only been a member of TORA a few hours and already it looks like I might be joining a team.
A Vaio with windows 7
i like it, it has an apple like keyboard, and you can launch a web browser without booting up windows which is quite handy
If you have to buy a Windows machine, a Sony isn't a bad choice
Not cheap though, could've gone Mac for that money
This was suprisingly cheap, was on a par with the Acer and HP which only had vista, i was quite suprised.
I had a budget, macs didnt even come close to it!
I saw an article the other day, HP had shocking reliabilty stats
Sony's were quite decent
(cries).
Andy, how are the 27" iMacs doing?
I was drooling over them yesterday
I might have had a mac mini with me, but regent street apple store was so bad i dropped the idea
Your loss
Next time, asking will help
i LOVE that shop :D
you had live comments with you.
On a Saturday in the run up to Christmas I am not surprised in the slightest. A Personal Shop is the way to beat the crowds - book ahead and then there's someone waiting to talk to you when you arrive.
wow!
I've never been
Just Bluewater & Westfield. Must check out the flagship at some point
They're fast. Very fast. The Quad core machines especially.
And they're shiny.
nooo... i like to shop without help.
secondly, i cant believe they didnt have it plugged into a monitor. I have no idea what the logic behind that is...
the glass stairs....
I figured that, don't think I'll be able to stretch that far
Are they selling well?
have been to the regent street store, the one in Bluewater and one in Cambridge..the bluewater store is my favourite as it's a little smaller... and it's closer..
Alison claimed they were sexist :P
Apple Stores are evil for all the good reasons
http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/personalshopping/
am now 5 hours behind. could be a late night.
see... it would damage my alevels i feel... {Comment #8}
On the whole, it might be a good idea if I managed to finish a GP3 season before getting a copy of F1 2009. There will almost certainly be a PC version out by then, and it will probably have been replaced by F1 2012...
The stairs?
Why? You can't stand underneath as it's blocked off and the glass is frosted.
:O i now want to buy a mac just so i can try that out!!!
yes... they lead to a balcony so i should have steered cleer...
you've checked then?
What kind of kids play Geoff Crammond's original F1 GP game?
(i think i've answered that one in my head :( ) {Comment #41}
I play GP2 occasionally - does that count?
But whats the point in doing that? plug the mac mini into a monitor with a keyboard and mouse and i can do it myself!
:D
I think most stores do have them attached to a monitor
The others have customers who ask questions
As of now, I am now a team driver for Galaxy Racing on TORA. Didn't think I'd get into a team that quickly! :P
The point of it is that you book the appointment and then when you arrive say "I'd like to buy a Mac Mini please." Then you leave with the Mac Mini. YOu could be in and out in less than 10 minutes if you're lucky, with no need to queue.
If i wanted to ask lots of questions i would be shopping for a linux machine!
CAn I try out a Mac Mini is not 'lots of questions'
Anyway...
I worked there for several months.
Apparenty there's an iPhone app to create tuning setups on Forza 3. Hmm.
unless i'm missing something... all macs are the same. have a play with an imac, it's the same experience.
the only thing you can't check it what it looks like on your monitor. but that would be a mental thing to expect anyhow.
:D All cars have KERS. From Brawn to Force India. {Comment #83}
What happened to realism? Mind you, I guess being beaten on a computer game by a magic button isn't much fun...
Ah, but i was only 50/50 on buying one, but it would have made sense after having made the effort to go into london...
it's just toooo easy!!! *jumps up and down* can't believe i have to wait nearly a year till dad will buy me a mac...
Incidentally, why did you buy a laptop if you were looking at desktops in London?
I suppose, but i wanted an idea of how quick it worked, its quite a small machine...
What if I don't want to go to Manchester for that experience?
Indeed it is. Although in store the Mini is connected to the sublime 24" LED display (a snip at £635), it will work just fine with a suitable monitor/keyboard/mouse.
Big machines aren't necessarily quicker
The desktop was for personal use, the laptop is the companies
i thought a mini would be pretty easy to bring with me
Best not make an appointment then
I'd imagine a Newcastle store won't be too far away
It's about the same as the White Macbook, the Mini is basically a Macbook with the logic board cut in half and stacked up. The new ones will take 8GB RAM as well.
Right guys, off for a bit.
Laters
This would make sense... i wouldnt buy the monitor, but i might have bought the mini...
See ya Adie
see ya
And until then, I'm complaining.
Bye Adie
So you still need to buy a desktop?
night Adie
I thought you didn't like Apple, their demos are boring?
New stores are opening all the time.
possibly, but the apartment i am going to has cable tv so its not as big an issiue as i thought it would be
I'm willing to reconsider when they can be bothered with up here.

What do people think about a series of guest daily posts? It could be like a Sidepodcast Takeover where there's a different daily post writer each day for a week.
Sounds like a good idea
Could be fun
Fair enough.
Nice idea
Me likey.
I'll set up a wiki page for volunteers :)
I think Glasgow is your nearest store at the moment.
As long as Steven doesn't volunteer people :P
Sounds good :D
Dont think i can write one though as my life is a bit crazy at the moment!
Im off to bed, have 6 hours sleep before work wake up... FUN!
Night!
When he arrives, pretend this idea never existed. :P

i switched a little too early with the first version of os x.
os x kitten i think it was.
:D

i cant know what i am missing if it isnt set up!
yes you can. you're just a difficult customer.
Or lose the power of speech ;)
Alison was right all along ;)
I don't want to know what I'm missing.
Im not... i am the easiest customer there is, i dont want to be helped, i dont want to ask questions, just let me look at it and decide if i want to buy it.
a silver box not plugged into anything isnt going to be enough for me though...
anyhow, night all!
say hi for me if she turns up :P
Will do sir
you were looking at an appletv.
She won't believe us.
Yay for RG signing up!
already? ahh, go on then, i'll do it if someone can wikiaddme.
Fine...
The Apple TV (silly name as it isn't actually a TV) is usually connected to a large screen television with an iPod Touch next to it so you can try out the free Apple Remote app.
cheers.
There was when I took my Wife to the Meadowhall Store to show her what it did. I think it hepled persuade her how much we needed one. (he he)
*helped
Oh dear, the rain has started in full again
Wonder what day it'll stop?
steven said may.
Sounds about right :)
Hello
spooky :)
Headping wins
sure why not? :)
Yay!
I visited at the right time :)
Seems reasonably accurate to me
you mean you missed Basic, ProDOS and Mac OS 1 through 9?????
I still miss the simplicity of pre OS X days, but we made the right move bringing Stevie J back into the fold, and I can't believe I still hear "macs can't right click" when we've been able to for over 15 years (not that you need to as much on a mac - drag & drop baby!)
I volunteer Jackie and Scott. I have no idea what for but they say they don't want me to volunteer them and that is good enough for me.
You missed out "will it be comptible with my documents".
Exposé on Snow Leopard is the ultimate in drag and drop. Worth the upgrade price on its own.
You do have to configure the mouse to right click.
I have not upgraded so we are still on Tiger.
You should go with Snow, it'll be a great leap
I am sure the local Apple guys will give me a CD try out before upgrading the entire lab.
Remember that it's Intel only.
All my iMacs are Intels. I am afraid the next lap it will be Shuttles -no sure which flavour of Linux but it will have KDE 4.3 desktops. Just downloaded Fedora 12 KDE so will be playing with it tomorrow.
meant computer lab - I meant buy iMac mini to play with and test out.
That's more like it :)
Yeah erm hi?
hey ya :)
hello :)
The new lab has been designed around using SFF boxes with dual high resolution monitors.
Of course what I would like are the 27in iMacs!
You made it to Saturday already
Hey Lou
Yaaay! If it was Friday again I quite honestly might shoot myself....
hey Steven. Have you had a nice day?
Hmmm I'm not enjoying the apple love. I was taken to the shop in London and was NOT impressed. It was horrible. That has put my off for life.
do tell why
you were taken by the wrong person.
Hah. We did spend a while randomly wandering because he refused to let me ask a helpful man to point us in the right direction.
Generally they are nice - but in our part of the world a bit too expensive to justify. I use Linux personally but Mac's OS is for sure the best you get when it comes to stability.
I don't get what's to like. It's just a shop? I was expecting awesomness after how much you all bigged it up. But no. Just a shop.
It's always very busy there. As I mentioned before, book a Personal Shop and you'll have a much better experience.
Oh, and why is the glass staircase sexist?
You what?? WTF? Did Nick say that???
If you think being late for a football match againt your local rivals to find the manager has chosen a team everyone disagreed with and getting beaten 4-0 and having two players sent off for assault is a good day then I have had an awesome day.
noooo, no, no, no...
i were me, i mean... christine...
In our part of the world the Mac shops are really rather nice - like the Cape Town Water front and are uber-smart
i'm now in bed watching a DVD (Torn Curtain, a Hitchcock film) and got the laptop connected. If that cat doesn't stop trying to peek into the xmas present bags it'll get startled.
ahh sounds fun ;)
in november?
And it rained
Hmmmm nice try....
I didn't say it was sexist! It's just while we were wandering abstractly..... this girl went up the stairs and I saw right up her skirt. I simply said it was stupid to have glass between the steps. I think he was too busy gawping to be listening tbh....
He might have.
:( niice... see. outside = baaaadd.
Leave me out of it, please!
hehe.
this started in June. And I know, it's just some people here like to plan early. Veeeeeeeeeery early (not myself, last minute for me if I could get away with it)
You shouldn't be able to see up a skirt/dress as the glass is frosted. Or was it one of those mini skirts that can also be described as "a belt"? ;)
It was bad out there today
It was a fairly short skirt. Not indecent. I definitely saw right up it. The glass of the steps is frosted, if you're standing behind the steps, it isn't.
Speaking of November, I'm still growing a 'tache for Movember. It's not too late to donate...
huh?
Could we not talk about seeing up girls skirts please?
it certainly was.. i came back considerably poorer than i was when i left.. i'm bad with temptation... can i blame Lukeh for his good review of the game?
Grow a tache for charity
I also blame Lukeh
I may have mentioned this before: http://uk.movember.com/mospace/2849
ahh. do you have a link/more info/pictures?
:D
No problem!
spoilsport!
sorry.
PS there's a lift in the store as well.
i blame lukeh.
oh wait.
fine with me, blame me for mentioning the stairs though. sorry :(

or

Link posted. Pictures are harder to come by but I will post one as soon as I've trimmed it. One of my colleagues has posted a video every day, that's dedication.
No blame required.
Seems only fair. He is like a pusher. I thought you had decided not to get it until after your studying was finished
I'm not interested in returning to investigate further.... I've decided I heart the internet.
Anyone who has Forza 2 or 3 and in iTouch/iPhone - get the ForzaTune app. I don't know how it works exactly, but it does. Just tried setting up a Peugeot 908 and the loss of rear traction has almost virtually gone! Car feels and drive much more stable. Love it! :D
i thought so too.. but i was in hmv... and er..... as i said earlier.. i'm my own worst enemy.....
wow, you're doing really well!
i haven't played it yet though! i've been working! i have some self control :)
Hmmm I'm not enjoying the apple love. I was taken to the shop in London and was NOT impressed. It was horrible. That has put my off for life. {Comment #704}
If you went to my local PC shop this morning you'd probably have been put off PCs for life. The main problem was that none of the till staff were on the tills, making it very difficult to buy the purchase. Commercial awareness was oddly low given that the store in question was PC World...
No, that sounds normal for that place
The MacDonalds of the IT world
Now if you had not wanted to buy anything.......
Some people have raised over £8k. Most of our donations are team ones.

Um... ...yeah, that does sound like a lousy football match. Commiserations, Steven, and hope things go better for the team next time it plays.
Ah I was made to walk the whole length of Regents street so I could wander round a shop for 10 minutes looking for something he refused to ask about. Once we found it, he took one look at what seemed to me to be a plain box, put it back and had miraculously decided he didn't want it......
Typical bloke then. :D
Now if you had not wanted to buy anything....... {Comment #753}
...we wouldn't have bothered stepping into the shop in the first place to find out that there were more till staff than tills...
:D
I hope so to but we now have the slight problem that the two best central defenders have managed to get themselves three game suspensions as a result of their sendings offs so the next few weeks may be problematic.
As long as it wasn't me that said that then yes :P
My Movember Moustache. Bear in mind that a) I had to start from clean shaven on the 1st Nov and b) I need to shave my chin.

sounds like me! I am going to install Fedora 12 now so will only be back if it installs and I have successfully reformatted the hard drive.
funny... not quite they way he told it. you sure you went with nick?
yikes! have my money, all of it... just don't hurt meeeee....
aw i'm sure you're BFF will save you Mr C ;)
#sorrymrc ;)
No I'm sure he said something about being able to shop by himself.... I know the truth though.
Please make all cheques payable to the Charity Asking for Sheltered Housing, or CASH for short.
hehe. i'll speak nicely to mrs. c.
grrrr
:D

Well... ...I'd expected possibly-unhelpful staff, strangely positioned products and inconsistent pricing. Surprisingly, only the last of these proved the case - half the software had no prices and the other half had illogical pricing structures. As in, last year's Norton Internet Security was over twice the price of this year's despite being an inferior product (and the same price as Norton 360 3.0, which includes this year's Norton Internet Security as part of a bigger package).
However, I'd expected there to be someone on the till, even if were literally asleep or engrossed in texting a friend. To have nobody on the till whatsoever defeats the point of it being a store and is an invitation to make a big huge fuss by walking off with the item you intended to buy, or else lobbing it at the corner helpdesk where most of them were hidden.
Thanks. The CASH thing is a joke by the way, please use the official Movember site to donate. It's for Prostate Cancer research, hence the cringeworthy slogan "Grow a Mo for a Bro".
heheh he'll come help you in his super fast golf cart... driven by Mika.. i'll stop now :) :D
I've got 58 minutes left to write a blog entry today and I'm stuck for inspiration.
Please could someone give me some ideas?
Neither of which you should let anywhere near your PC.
How about Andy growing a moustache?
Yeah I was gonna say. Norton is worse than a virus.....
If you haven't blogged about it, then Female racing drivers in F1?
Or a rant about PC World
jenson's up more properties than the queen. we think he's been paid in advance.
norton anti-productivty.
non of those stories have been confirmed though?...
not even remotely. i like the idea of him ditching his airline plan and starting up an estate agents in the high street though.
ehhehe me too actually :)
the pinger's gone on holiday with brawn. here's a new post from christine:
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/21/f1-analytics-2009-part-1-points-tables/
Who let the pinger do that?
not sure we were asked.
Best off to bed before I spend any more money. Good Night.
Back with reformatted drive and new OS - pity they did not bother to include Fire Fox - I hate Konquerer. Better get on an install it.
How rude!
dear mr & mrs c, i feel like a holiday, i don't want to speak to you about it because it'll be blah blah blah blah blah. yours, pinger
night janna.
:P
night Janna
The Mercedes World that you discussed in the podcast - you said it looked sinister. It looks just like a Darlek!
German Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing talks with Scott Speed

oooh. that it does.
Is this the Mercedes World at Brooklands?

i'll see you tomorrow morning

The strange thing is Norton Internet Security ended up solving the problems Dad was having with a very unreliable computer that a rival manufacturer's product had failed to fix. It's taken a hitherto-unknown virus off my computer, but Firefox has also crashed five times since I installed it...
Can't comment on 360 though.
yes. although even england isn't that grey.
really?
well, maybe today.
not even Cumbria?
cannot be inferior to McAfee
Possibly its building that is putting a shadow on the landscape that would shame Mordor!
Why would anyone pay him in advance?
on the topic of money and Jenson... he said in an interview that he is getting paid less at Mclaren than he would have done at Brawn... this confused me..
was joking, ignore me.
Brawn offer 8million plus up to 4 million in bonus points for two years. Macca offered 6 million for three years.
I saw that as well. Very odd. I guess he is not so keen on Mercedes
Clarify each year was 8 million plus bonus up to 4million.
Kubica to Mercedes? This is getting really silly now
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/another-scenario-for-mercedes/
he clearly saw the light and wanted to drive for the best team.
ooh okay.
he keeps saying he wanted the challenge... which is fair enough i suppose.. 7 years is a long time to stay in one place :(
Yes and there is a reason - the 2009 car was constructed with the aid of 150+ million - 2010 was designed on a budget of about 1/5 of that.
Do yuy want an guest post on this topic - I have been collecting the figures which do not make much sense if you use the word budget.
I used to use AVG, it worked and was free
It has to be more than that - he genuinely wants to defend his title and it is clear he feels he is in with a better chance to compete against Lewis using the same equipment.
I use it but we are not supposed to at work for the Windows PCs
It still is and highly recommended.
smart man, him :-)
Do you not use Macs?
honestly, viruses? Do people still get them?
really? i think he's just throwing himself a new challenge.. because from the sounds of things he has no idea about the Mclaren car or anything, yet knows Mercedes/ Brawn (i shall continue to call them Brawn for as long as i can..) should have a strong car too.
We still have a PC laptop, soon to be replaced with a Macbook (but shhh, don't tell LPG)
Oh and thanks Mr and Mrs C for the Movember donation, really appreciated.
I heard something about if you use Windows you might get viruses, it may be rumour though.
Sensible man - I do love my Linux-based MSI wind netbooks - price here was really cheap.
I am still intrigued why Mercedes would want to occupy (have built?) a building that looks like a Darlek - sory I just cannot get that building out of thoughts - its weird. Then to put on top of the poor Darlek their logo twirling around - that just bizarre.
Might? Have you seen the articles about putting unprotected Windows machines on t'internet?
Really, but I do not know what this protection is, I just did an install of Fedora 12 - took 15 mins and everything is there working with Open Office, a Browser, PDF readers, unzipping functions and its absolutely secure.
the ones about windows xp? From 2004?
Lest just say I wouldn't put mysql, php, or apache on the Internet without patching either
I have a complete phobia of Windows machines now - should I wear latex gloves when using them - is that the protection you were rumoured to have heard to protect yourself from their viruses?
Sure I just keep everything updated - actually that was my issue with McAfee and Windows automatic updates they got into a dispute and broke one of labs all 30 PCs - Window update deleted the original files then McAfee prevent the install of the updates - brilliant thinking guys.
