Hey all, hope you’re all okay on this lovely race day, and that your Sunday is full of wonderful things! It is of course time for the German Grand Prix, so why don’t we have some predictions to start the day, unless you’re reading this after the race then well maybe ignore this bit.
- Will Webber keep his lead into the first corner?
- Will it rain?
- Who will be the first to spin?
- Who will retire first?
- What will Eddie Jordan claim to have invented today?
If you missed Free Practice 3 yesterday you can catch up with results here. I’m sure you were all sitting eagerly awaiting qualifying yesterday but just in case you missed the first time Vettel hasn’t qualified on the front row for 15 races you can catch Christine’s highlights here, and the results here.
Speaking of Christine, I’m sure you’re all aware by now but she has a brand new super theme on her personal blog, and a few new posts too. Don’t forget to check them out.
Time to move on to some arty random links for you all to enjoy on this glorious day.
- I’ve just learnt about the beauty of the ‘Manhattan Phenomenon’. Twice a year for less than half an hour, the sunset aligns exactly with the city’s street grid to create some wonderful scenes. Take a look.
- Speaking of sunsets don’t you wish you could travel to these kind of places! Just amazing.
- Some more photography now, make a note everyone – Mountains + reflections = a very magical mix.
- Also, you MUST see this photography, just wow.
- Here at Sidepodcast we do like a bit of tennis, well some us do. But I’m not sure I would enjoy playing or watching people play on this court. How crazy.
- One last link for you all. If anyone’s off on holiday soon have you considered buying an underwater disposable camera? Or a case for your current camera? Just look at the sort of shots you could capture!
That’s about it for today, enjoy the rest of your weekend and as Christine would say ‘I’ll see you in the comments.’
Hello Sunday, thank you for posting this for me Christine. Am amazed i managed to download it onto my phone and send it to you. love my smart phone :)
hey, hey, daily.
webber's pole lap. he drove mark around with his minds eye.
Ooh hello new daily! Didnt even realise the time
the lengths people go to for a daily post never ceases to amaze us.
well i'd already written it in the car on the way to my aunts...but her internet was down. The only way i could think that i could get it posted was to send it via my phone. If i hadn't got a smartphone i'd have been in trouble.
also, can't believe i wrote it so early!
destiny!
very impressive ;)
#confidentialfrommrc
:D the sad thing is, he probably will claim this.
I'm thinking Hamilton will get the lead by the first corner, but by half distance we'll have a different race leader.
I'm thinking he'll either have created the rain dance, Chistian Horner's interview technique or Sunday.
Possibly all three.
Twice.
Other answers:
Will Webber keep his lead into the first corner?
- Yes, absolutely, and Lewis will brake earlier than Vettel expected
Will it rain?
- Yes! Although if we get a start behind the safety car I will cry so much that'll be like rain. Kind of.
Who will be the first to spin?
- Maldonado or Massa
Who will retire first?
- Vettel please, seeing as you asked so kindly :)
I do not want to be a ball boy on that tennis court. Hoooooly...
i know!!! just imagine having to be an umpire and sit even higher!!!
My friend told me about how Nadal and Federer played water tennis. now this looks fun!
Ohhh, that does look a lot more fun! And lower to the ground. A lot lower. Like, on the actual ground. And not a bajillion miles in the air :)
I wonder if water tennis would work with the tides. match starts with a low tide, few hours later, trying to reach each ball waist deep in water :)
:D
and on that note. i must sleep. staying at my aunts tonight so we can take care of her dog tomorrow cause she's out all day and from like 7am.. so erm.. i expect to be woken up by a cute white ball of fluff :) see you all for the race. xx
Nighty night. :)
Night Lou.
I'm really liking the new Sherlock show. I'm in the first episode.
cheers for the daily lou, will catch up with links in a bit.
Is this the BBC one Kai?
Yep. It's on Netflix...when the stream isn't buffering. : /
Boooo for the b word!!
Glad you're enjoying it though, the whole thing was so well done and modernised in a fantabulous way considering they're all still Sherlock Holmes stories brought into modern day life. Makes me smile that two of the BBC's most successful dramas in the last year or so are written by the same guy :)
I am really enjoying it.
I have just been told Rolf Harris is 81. Mind = BLOWN!! I thought he was about 50...
Night Lou. Great Daily.

Morning SU! Just you and me up at this time?
*waves*
Actually SU, have you tried listening to the latest aside with Joe, I'm only just catching up
'ello
although I can assure you I was not up at 7.30am so maybe it is just you and SU :)
:)
And a certain young lady
ah yes, of course.
Karun shows that the view from his hotel shows the track is very wet:
http://yfrog.com/kg5gbuyj
I say it shows he should be selling tickets to his hotel room for the race!
he must be in the pink hotel too
Love this pic from brundle of a GP2-train http://yfrog.com/h3hi7dvj
GP2 starts in about 10 mins, if anyone fancies a game of 'spot-the-lotus'
Glock has signed long term for Virgin... He must have liked the McLaren tie up news
Cant imagine he had a huge amount of choice TBH
am watching a stream with a commentary in a language I don't understand. this could be interesting :)
Well no but signing a long term agreement might seem rash if you weren't sure if they really had a future. Although I guess if they went pop he'd be out of the contract.
I am watching it on mute with no timing for a more hardcore experience :)
Actually saying that... I wouldn't have been surprised if Lotus had gone to Glock to replace Trulli for next year.
He gets a job for 3 years, im sure if a big team decide they want him they could easily buy him out
If they dont go for Chandhok or another asian driver, i wouldnt be suprised if they go for a british driver to help push caterham.
Its difficult, being where they are on the grid it must be hard to attract anyone faster than heikki
The gp2 is mad, packs of 8 cars going down the straight 3 wide!
Wheel randomy fell off one of the ARTs...
Grosjean might not be a bad shout for a drive next year...
Back to renault?
GP2 seems to be a lot better now than it was a few years ago, i quite enjoyed that
Indeed. Race 1 yesterday was a cracker too. But I think GP2 is better now not so much because there's great drivers in the field, more than the field is so even now.
Thats true, but its become a lot better to watch, there are still some silly spins, but they are getting some great overtaking too
Next up: porsche supercup
Adam Cooper: Karun Chandhok has had a gearbox change, no grid penalty as it's the first for that car. But he's used up Jarno Trulli's joker
Its raining again
Random thought - I know he just re-signed for Virgin and all, but I find it odd that Timo Glock is a global trending topic.
Not a lot to tweet about on a sunday morning i guess, F1 tends to dominate in the summer :)
Indeed so.
Good morning, folks! :)
Everyone must be lurking...
Feel free to delurk, now is a good time, as its dead quiet!
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-germany-2011-the-race
I'm watching Masterchef. I went off it because it got super lame but it's the final week so I thought I'd get back into it :)
Hear, hear!
Oooooh, finals. :D Philippines just showing S2 right now, sadly. Too many episodes to watch for me to catch up to S3.
And lame? How so?
Goodevening!
I am debating whether i should watch the race here in the office or go home
They sent all the good cooks home long ago, most of the ones that are left do not deserve to be there at all.
Morning guys :)
Got caught out in the wrong challenges?
a couple of girls who flutter their eyelashes at the judges and cry a lot seem to have made this their survival tool.
The fact that everyone in the country hates one of them is front page news :D
Two immunity pins? She can't be that bad, surely?
she won one of them cooking off against a swimmer. She's awful. AWFUL.
Hmmm. What happened to cooking against professional chefs?
shes also the first contestant i've ever seen burn toast.
How do you get past a skills test with that level of skill?
apparently the key is to have a face that the producers think will sell cookbooks :D
Hmmm. Let's see how that turns out, then...
sitting in my aunts garden with my mac, a nice glass of cold water and a dog on my lap is possibily my favourite race preparation! Gooood Morning everyone!
morning! were you awaken by your aunts dog super early or did he let you off? :)
nope, he was very good. he's too small to jumo on the bed anyways, but so far he's been as good as gold.
#phew
although it could be cause my friend is giving him lots of attention.
I want!
you can have! http://www.dorint.com/en/conference-hotel-seminar-room-conference-equipment-eifel
:)
€140 for next Saturday. Gotta be a lot more for a GP. I'd watch the race in the stands but this would be great for free practices. :)
cueing up Neil Young, "The Needle and the Damage Done" as a quick tribute to Amy Winehouse.

Enjoyed that race. Going to rest my poor eyes for a few hours and return for some IndyCar at 7 or 8pm, hopefully it won't be a crashfest.
20.8km left in the tour, might as well stay up :D
the music for this tour segment on my TV is kermit the frog and fozzie bear. This beats anything the BBC have ever put on the F1 coverage :D
Well the muppets are the best thing ever :)
Far too excited for the film they're bringing out later in the year
me tooo. Jason Segel's involvement excites me too.
The guy is a legend :D
Yesterday i found season 2 on dvd of how i met your mother for £5 and I couldn't resist. After watching I Love You Man and knocked up he is definitely one of my favouritest hollywood people.
he makes me want to see Bad Teacher even though it looks awful and has Justin Timberlake in it.
it is one of them films you know is just going to be awful. Although to be fair I wasn't expecting much of mr timberlake in social network and he was surprisingly good although his voice is faaarrrr too high to take seriously as an actor :D
I read an article the other day that said no matter what role he is in when you see him you always go 'hey, it's Justin Timberlake!' which is so true.
so true :D
75km/h, I wouldn't like to go that fast on a bike.
"it'll be a big night in Australia tonight"
I think most of the country is asleep.
Did Cadel Evans end up winning it? I have been trying to keep up with the TdF but I find the whole thing a bit confusing. Although watching it the other day with Andy Schleck winning was very cool.
Ohhh Buemi. He's got a 5 place grid penalty for Hungary
yep but its kind of a anticlimax since he wasn't anywhere near the front of the stage, the commentary seemed more excited that Mark Cavendish won the stage. I don't really understand it but I know so many people who are obsessed with it that I'm trying to work out how it works :D
Precisely my problem. It's interesting but the whole format makes absolutely no sense to me :)
One of the guys in work was talking about it and I uttered 'Well I would assume it's the first person at the front for each stage right?' and he just gave me a horrified look. Never saying that again.
I don't fully understand how you can have the best overall time without winning any stages, it seems unfair :D
My younger brother is currently using Raid to kill flies.
mr. C, for your back's shake, I hope that not only are you paying attention but that you are taking down notes as well.....
right, off to bed for me.
Hoping to get a swim in on my lunch break tomorrow so need some energy so I don't drown.
Night Amy!
Evening all.
That's because it's a sport in which the French made up the rules.
Bleh. Have had a hurty head all day - went out for a little training ride of my own and a wasp flew into one of the vents on my cycle helmet. Not very nice. What are wasps for????
Night Amy:
Well, if you really do not want to drown, do not go swimming....
If you really must go swimming and still want to make sure you do not drown - wear a lifejacket.
If you must presist in drowning then try a differnet fluid in your lungs. I heard "air" is much more fun to drown in....
HaHA! :D Ello Stuart. How goes it?
Stung!
Ouch, you're not allegeric to Wasp strings, are you ?
Mind you, you probably have far bigger and scarier airborne stingy things where you are, so I should be grateful for these small mercies.
Not really, it just made my brain hurt and my scalp tighten up a bit.
Thanks to the magic of Garmin, I could tell exactly where I stopped...
Care to here tales of horror about tundraland's governmental broastcasting station, the CBC with there so-called "same-day" coverage? It would make a great story on your blog...
I think I've been through enough with the US coverage. :)
Gah folks....
let's see what's wrong with this, eh?
#IndyCar @ Edmonton
Hello, by the way
Also...
Not even close. in turth, the CBC has not shown F1 racing in about 20 someold years. The highlight of the season was always Sir Jackie Stewart doing a grid walk at Montreal. CTV's TSN network does a far superior job.
It's made worse by the fact they're keeping the 50 minute pre-race show... priorities?
Like I said, I've been through enough in the US.
Jez, people it's Edmonton. The only thiing that its know for in Tundraland is that where the Canadian Armed Forces does its Winter/Artic Survival training as it is colder there than anywhere else in the universe.
It's so cold there, that absolute zero is considered "shorts weather"
although like I said before, I do like Varsha and Matchett. They're very knowledgeable and good commentators. The overall SPEED/Fox coverage is what bugs me
Kai: 24/07/2011 at 17:16:51
Perhaps as an experienced FOX Sports viewer, you could warn all of us F1 fans the pitfalls of having Murdoch having the viewing rights to F1? :P
Also where Gretzky played his best hockey.
I think you missed the point. I'm talking about them cutting the race rather than shorten the pre-race show. Just sad.
I was thinking about that this last week. Somehow I think that deal is not going to go through anymore.
Nick: If you're still around. . . thank you for the invite. Much appreciated. (Couldn't figure out how to thank you directly through Google+)
I disagree. Brantford is only 15 minutes down the road. I watched him even before he got anywhere near the NHL....He was cherry-picking even before most of the boys on his team where still trying to balance themseleves in their boots!
Leigh O'Gorman: 24/07/2011 at 17:21:46
It is not sad, its FOX! Gotta learn them FORE-in-er names, right Billy-Bob? And pull all'em thar sponours, rit, more pre-race, more safe time to plug.
Yaaaaaay Brunooo
Errrr... IndyCar isn't on Fox
as folks around here say it FURRR-nurrr :)
as an aside, I had a friend who took his Subaru WRX to a local mechanic. The mechanic referred to it as a "sue - BAHR - who" with a VERY heavy emphasis on the middle syllable
It seems weird to see Steve Matchett tweet as if the race is happening right now...
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

Yeah, he was all excited to get home from commentating on the race and then see it.
I thought that was weird and he was missing the point, but who knows.
then again, he is nuts
hehe
True.
Afternoon :)
Here happens something. I've searched 'Rebecca Black' on youtube (I think she was trending somewhere, I wanted to know what was that) and the third video that appeared once I did that search was a sidepodcast one! LOL!
Cool! :)
And good afternoon to you. I'm out of here, work tonight so I need to get some sleep.

Kai are you around?
yep
have you got an email from me? Have been trying to send for a good half an hour but gmail is having all kinds of issues again today, grr.
yes. I got 2 as a matter of fact. :) Thanks!
ohh it tends to do that when it plays up. Silly gmail. Least it arrived :)
We've been outside! Madness.
OK... When are the 4K TVs comming out. I need to put up Daytona, Indy, ALMS and MotoGP..... 9 hours of racing in a 4 hour window.
NOW I know why they make 4 and 6 channel PVRs.
Glad you made it back safely. I was going to go, but I seem to live in Singapore this week. It must be 98% humidity. At least the sun has stayed behind the clouds today. I'm glad to have a break from it.
We just got out of a 4 day wave... 32 degrees or more. Humidex maed it feel like 38-45. Nice 25-26 day, doors and windows open. Very nice change.
wow. Yeah, we had places that got up to a heat index of 45C also. I just went into summer hibernation, inside with A/C on high. It's still humid here (aka "gross"), but hopefully it will rain soon and clear all of this outta here.
It is surprisingly very dry here in Montréal.... 34%... Where is here?
Connecticut. Send some of your dry air down here, okay? Thanks.
I've always wanted to go to Montreal but haven't made it yet. I could drive there in 6 hours. I want to do that, very much, when a race is on or not.
Robin Miller doing a grid walk. He's very...assertive in finding drivers and making them talk to him.
#Indy
What you should do is come up and make it to the Circuit Mont-Tremblant! There are a few weekends where they run. The big ones are the Spring and Fall Classic as well as the Bobby Rahal Legends of Motorsports. the BR-LoM came through here 3 weeks ago and it was a nice turnout. It's the second year le LoM runs here, taking over from the local organization. There was a 25% increase of participants from 2009 to 2010 and I would expect a similar bump next year.
The Fall Classic runs local race series, but in late September, the colours should be fantastic!
What would Brundle make of it?
He would hate it because Robin puts his arm around everyone, seemingly whether they want him to or not.
#creepyuncle?
hehe
I'll make a note of that. Bobby Rahal was at Goodwood! Great to see him.
Lime Rock is about 40 minutes away, and that is 'my home track', but I've always wanted to go to Mont-Tremblant.
But Creepy Uncle does run to get some interviews.... whereas Brundle, like Cpt. Slow, does not. Does the Beeb have some anti-running policy... Perhaps a health and safety thing?
OH!!!!!! the sound system let go 1/3 the way in to O Canada.
Yes ,I like his hustle and him being a character, mostly. :)
Is it bad that I wasn't disappointed? Sorry, I guess that's mean. At least they got to finish it.
oh and not because of anything to do with Canada! Geez, I just realized how that could be read. eeek.
Just 'cause one of the girls seemed out of tune.
No, not read like that. Like most young troupes, they can be off.
Lots of audio problems, ' Start your Engines' was also missed. Edmonton runs on oil... not electricity.
Looking at the LoM website, there is only one more weekend... Dec 2-4 at Sebring... certainly tempting. There is also a big vintage race at The Glen the weekend after Labour Day, which I need to get to.
Yes, and a shame their big moment was interrupted, poor girls.
Major PA issues.
The fact I haven't been to the Glen yet either is just not acceptable. I have tracks to get to!
C'mon Dario
Tracy crashed out, Saavedra may be out.
Reminds me of a Top-10 kids moments, this week on TSN / ESPN Sports Center. 4-5 year olds trying to get through a national anthem.... not pretty... but cute. Not as bad as Carl Lewis or Greg Bartholowmew. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpXzASiXX8U )
I find that it is the people, not the tracks.... Though I need to get to other tracks.
Rahal out
what the heck is going on?
I totally agree with that. When I had lots of friends racing at Lime Rock I would help them out and pit crew and stuff. It was awesome. Simple stuff, like timing and radio, but reallllly fun.
Hi Joe. What do you mean? At Edmonton?
Hello, looks like I just missed the start by 5 minutes. Why can't they start on the hour?
Yes, short tempered though, been tobacco free for nearly 48 hrs
I had a chance to help out the Formula 5000 teams this year, but couldn't due to time issues. There are bunch of guys that I meet up with at Tremblant and Calabogie (Ottawa) that regularly "pit" for them. Seems like tons of fun.
They must have their 50 minutes of talking and ads, then get to it....or something.
Keep it up! (the non-tabacco-ing... not the short-termper-ing)
*tip toes back to the keyboard*
Ok Joe, whatever you say. :D
Well, watching Indy at a road course may be tough going for ya. :(
Sounds great. I hope you get another chance.
ALMS goes green
I need more eyes and attention.
And ESPN / SportNet have the RLM broadcast team... Nice to put a face to the name.
Looks like they fixed the wall on the back-straight after the epic 911 crash at the same race lastyear ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A6hzPYxxHk +- 45 seconds)
I was just wondering if this was the place. The image of that crash popped up in my head as they went through there.
I'm watching online at ESPN3, when it doesn't freeze. Where are you seeing it?
This reworked track is quite a bit narrower than I'd expected
Rogers Sportnet, Canadian broadcaster. You could try VIPstand.net... My dealer for all my racing series fixes!
Pat, I see on twitter that you're not watching the ALMS race. Do you want to avoid spoilers?
Pat, Edmonton, Mosport or N.J. Mostorsport Park? (Or Laguna in a few hours, or the Mini-Ring from this morning?)
Thanks
I'm going to watch that midweek - I hope. Their website seems to have a catch-up service.
Edmonton is soooo bumpy.
Not bothered really, it isn't like the big teams are there
In any case if I can't find an IndyCar feed without stuttering I may switch over
The Sebring of the north?
okay :)
Yay Dario to 3rd!
Edmonton.
I've been having feed issues this week, too. Boo.
Why is Luiz Razia in Hungary already? Tweets:
Anyone in Budapest? Just arrives at airport, head to the hotel in 30min, it is raining a lot here and is not so warm! See ya chaps!
Full course caution
@FTHurley
The front three in IndyCar right now look like two Ferraris chasing down a McLaren.
:)

Very pretty picture.. Instant of time.
Gorgeous!
Glad Dario made it through that mess.
Dixon in the hot seat with a broken radiator and hot water in the cockpit.
Simona gained 6 spots in that debacle.
Sorry but Rahal was not interesting in the booth. I like Dan Wheldon a ton more.
He's very boring
Viso no penalty? Mad
Sato: innocent
Who'd-a-thunk it? Perhaps not his fault this time.
Not bad reporting from the ALMS - RLM guys... They go the correct highway number back from Bowmanville to Totonto.... We Montrealers call it "The Highway to Hell".
Penalty for RHR?
Have added graphs to the standings now:

Confirmed.. down to 13th.
Space Shuttle: The Final Mission on BBC2 & BBC HD
And GP+ is out
oooh yay.
Don't really like the coloured banners. In fact, I don't like any of the recent styling changes
omg, you're so wrong, i love them all.
I can't be wrong for not liking it! :)
Hehehe. It definitely looks more professional. I don't like the yellow bits.
you're wrong ;)
The banners are a needless distraction, like an after thought, in my eyes
I think actually a lot of the colours are too strong for me. Love the design though.
Evening folks
interesting infinity performance report. pluperfect is a word?
...wonder if we can get a sponsor for steven's one word feature :)
Watching IndyCar,
Not as much of smash fest as last week thankfully
we is gonna watch a film after x1 looooong weekend. until tomorrow all.
see ya mr c
awful season for de silvestro - dnf again
Yes. Boo for her. :(
Not her fault either. Her season has been peppered with breakdowns and people hitting her
Later folks, great work this weekend
Was a bit mad earlier but has calmed down now.
True - I could've Tags one after the first lap
Bummer too for Sato - RHR has been a moron this year and was so again today
yep.
and Power wins
Good win for Power. Now amazing by any stretch and a really big heads up to how awful Bob Jenkins (etc...) are compared to watching F1 on 5Live today.
They are awful, aren't they?? My goodness.
Agreed, they had a dreadful race. Dan Wheldon brings so much to the coverage, it felt empty without him and Rahal nearly sent me to sleep.
It was like Edmonton seems to be - flat and boring.
Gives a new definition to the word "pedestrian". I've always said a sport, regardless of what it is, is often made by the presenters / commentators. Days like this, the show really needs the likes of Paul Page.
Rahal doesn't have an engaging voice at all.
@MFranchitti Marino Franchitti
Mega fight back from @dariofranchitti after the Target cars got @EJVISO'd. On to Mid O!
That bird in the helmet thing freaks me out.
The Firestone Firehawk? Yep
Yeah. I knew someone here would tell me what it is. :)
It's always....looming......watching.....
Heh, very weird
Jumping to BBC2 for MotoGP now
Not Eurosport? No choice?
That space shuttle program was a little bit sad. I hate that the space shuttle era is over :(
British eurosport is a day behind normally is it not?
Anyone got an indycar stream?
I can put BBC2 on my TV. Eurosport means using PC or iPad.
Ehhh... the race just finished
MotoGP at Laguna Seca about to start
:( I'm looking at pre race crap unable to find the race itself... too late I guess.
I'm not doing an German GP write up until tomorrow - just going to soak it for a while
:D
OK.. .now the race begins... .Will the ALMS or the MotoGP race finish first?
MotoGP is usually about 45mins
Wow - Dario has completed every lap so far this year - now that's consistency
impressive
Well done.
And ther eis 44 mins left in the ALMS... RACE!
I love the change of direction on the corkscrew
I haven't seen the prerace show on MotoGP before. I like these guys.
We didn't get any, straight into the warmup lap
oh, well that's a switch - I have more coverage than you guys.
Weird.
OUCH, we just saw the replay of Jorge Lorenzo's crash yesterday.
Pat, with Speed? Not only is there no warm-up but the actual 45 minute race is delayed by 4-5 minutes, rendering live timing useless.. The usual for Speed, as they do that to everything non-NASCAR.
Perfect blue skies, that must be that summer thing I've heard so much about :)
So you're not on 28 laps to go right now?
Annoying. But I did like the interviews with the riders. I like the riders, no verdict yet on the announcer guys.
Well, it is California
Haven't started yet.
That's crazy, it is in their own country!
You better stay off Twitter then
Southern accent "We don't do nuthin' outside of NASCAR."
That is Speed for you! I get Speed and I watch it by "other" means, just because of the delay. They do this for F1 quali also.
Yeah, we don't ever see FP3, and FP1 and 2 are lumped together and delayed most of the time.
(
#Igiveup
Wooohoooooo, Dr Who episodes 8-13 trailer!!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00jb05r
Looks awesome. Weeping angels, the silence, cyberman and rory punching hitler.
I think you should definitely move to the UK :P
I'm doing my best to do just that. :)
Can you let my other half know when you manage that? :)
Seeing as they recently changed the visa allowances, I have to keep researching how I can do it.
I don't really mind that they don't show all sessions. But the sessions (F1, MotoGP, whatever) you show "LIVE", don't delay it by a few minutes to make a show to start on the hour, when it actually starts a few minutes before.
Yeah, I agree.
The folks that I've talked to who have raced Laguna Seca said it feels like you going off a cliff when you go through the corkscrew. It takes real guts.
It scares me enough on games.
I know, that's annoying in itself. Also UKBA's website is horrendously complicated. Never ever simple terminology!
BANZAI!!!!!!!!!!!!
Especially, in Speed's case it's to show the last minutes of the 13th replay of a Monster Truck race, some info-mercial or Cooking-Wih-NASCAR. (I have used that one here before, no?)
I'm glad it's not just me. I had to read stuff 6 times just to figure out what the hell they were trying to say.
So stoopid.
I'm thinking Doctor Who to round out the evening. It's nice and warm; think tea is in order
:)
*puts on best Dracula voice* Good evening.
*giggles*
Good evening Emily
Hi Leigh! :)
Turkey Machine told me to get on here. :p
The drivers feel *weightless* as they come over the hill into the corkscrew. WOW.
What goes on today?
I've never realised how quick Moto GP races go, only 16 laps left
or 22, if you're us.
#BlameSpeed
Yeah, it's stupid, but more importantly, it HAS to be a choice that the Speed higher-up choose to do. It is certainly not an on-air presenter choice and most definitely not even a production choice to do this. It is the upper management that chooses to do this.
you too can be part of the live world.... vipstand.net
Yes. They don't have the priorities of the fans in mind, but it seems ridiculous to even say that...as if they ever would for any series other than the awesome access and coverage they give to NASCAR.
Just 45 minutes or so. Nice way to wind down of an evening. :)
:) Thanks
For now I'm tired of watching my laptop screen and I'll go for TV.
Watched Turkey Machine watch the race (since here in the States it's on a stupid delay), watched a few episodes of Good Eats, cooked dinner, then made peanut butter chocolate no bake cookies. :)
How are you?
The riders look like little angry turtles when they crash and jump up to try to get going again.
NASCAR pays the bills. There is a Dave Despain rant, in a candid off-air sort of scenario (I think it's staged) where he rants about fans complaining about the Speed NASCAR over-coverage. Sort of like the Casey Casem (sp?) ranting about feel good / feel bad stories)
interesting
I live in NASCAR country (just 45 minutes from Charlotte, NC) and I still hate it. Still, I can understand about it paying the bills. People around here pay big money for their NASCAR fix....
Just like we spend so much time, energy and money on F1. :) We're just in the wrong country for it.
I think the video itself is a put-up / fake, but it is still quite funny... Nearly as funny as Paul Stoddard being interviewed by Dutch (?) press at Indy 2005
I'm still a new fan, so I haven't really spent much on it (yet). And yes, we are. *sigh* Well, maybe we won't be for much longer! :)
After looking high and low, east and west, domestically and internationally for the location that felt right to me, the southern coast of England is it. It's exciting to find the place.
I don't hate NASCAR per-se. I hate the racing it provides. 4 hours of swap-the-lead "racing" doesn't do it for me. It does get covered well, however. Each team gets their slice of TV time, as they "go-through-the-field" The NASCAR corporate and sponsor media relation is second to none.
Mine's Norwich, but that's because a certain someone lives there. ;)
I mostly just don't like the fact that they drive around an oval....F1 on the other hand, actually has curves, hills, turns, etc. :)
I have friends from SPC in the area who are so very generous, but no relationship, so it's nice for you to have that. Good luck.
Not too bad - all F1'd and IndyCar'd out. Going to close the evening with some Doctor Who now
It's nice, but also very very trying and difficult to be 4,000 miles away from the one you love.
I used to watch some NASCAR and I enjoyed it, and my dad used to drag race, and I liked watching that, but my passion has always been road courses.
The coverage is definitely incredible.
Woohoo! I saw the trailer for the fall episodes a few minutes ago and all I can say is wow!
Corkscrew just makes for epic viewing. Every single time.
Anyone have an easy way for me to share a WMV file? I don't want to create an account....
yeah, that change of direction as they go into it in *awesome*.
I've said it before, will say it again. We'll work things out, we just need some fortune to smile upon us both. :)
Like fighter pilots. Dive! Dive! Dive!
:( Distance is difficult.
Woohoo! I saw the trailer for the fall episodes a few minutes ago and all I can say is wow!
Haven't seen it yet. Only caught eps 1-4 from first half of the season, so I'm hoping BBC stick them back on the iPlayer
No one will ever top this though

So much more impressive for the bikes too, than the cars
Yes. We will work things out. :)
yeah, and I like the cars. The bikes are just....so cool.
I would've said Dropbox but if you don't want to create an account, then I don't know
[everyone should have a Dropbox]
I (hearts) Dropbox. I use it for everything now. Thanks.
Chequered flag just dropped at Laguna [no spoilers]
how many laps left on Speed?
Oh, well, I guess that is what VMware and Snapshots are made for... I am NOT paranoid... They ***ARE*** out to get me.
BTW... MotoGP finishes before ALMS.
45-30 seconds.
4
Don't worry, just go for it. I've been on twitter. I'm new to it and just kind of exploring.
According to Twitter, MotoGP finished with about 2 laps left of the ALMS race.. So we fit in IndyCar plus MotoGP in the same time as one ALMS race.
:)
When Hindy said that the ALMS race was 2.5 hours I was like O.O
All their races are that length though. It's not too long
It was more than I could pay attention to. I didn't expect it to be that long.
LMS in Europe should have some races that length, 6 hours is too long to follow properly. I did love the Silverstone 6 hrs when I was there last year though.
Speed is done with MotoGP
"Laguna Seca" made the UK Twitter trending topics list, never thought I'd see that!
I saw that and I wondered if I'd just missed that before during a MotoGP race.
If properly scheduled, a 6 hour race can be done .However, with the push to put more and more races in each series (MGP, F1, LMS, ALMS, Indy, BSB,etc.etc. etc), it is inevitable that some races overlap.
Anyways, sleep is needed. night all!
Night Lukeh
Night
I watched the Imola race live, it was good. Quite a lot to ask of people to do that several times a year, maybe it is better to dip in and out.
They didn't show the champagne. I love how the whole podium gets soaked, VIPs and girls too :)
Night
Unusual for BBC to jump in and out so quickly before/after the race
Odd time I guess
Here is (hopefully) the Dave Despain rant on NASCAR... Please let me know if the link doesn't work.

hehe! Yes, it worked and thanks. :)
He's right. If there weren't so many NASCAR fans, there wouldn't be so much NASCAR coverage.
Heh, yeah looks completely staged to make a point but it seems he does actually think it
The saying is "Every joke has a bit of truth to it", no?
Hehehehe
11pm. Seems like the best way to close out the weekend is to watch the ITV highlights of the Tour de France in Paris. May pop back in an hour or so. :)
I don't want to spoil it... The guy in the yellow shirt wins.
yeah, he was riding a bike, wasn't he?
:)
Could be... .two wheels for sure.
Night folks, sleep calls
Good night
