We haven't had a lot to say in terms of posts the past few days, but that's because the most interesting things are happening in the comments. Here's a quick round up of everything you've missed out on if you've not been keeping up:
- Gavin found the ultimate in entertaining Formula One challenges - name F1 driver's using their helmet design alone! Some of us are making a better fist of this than others, so why not download the spreadsheet and have a go yourselves? Let us know how you get on in the comments.
- We're following Kimi's escapades as he tackles the Lapland Rally in a Fiat Punto. We can't pretend to know much about the sport but Kathi's on hand with live timing and pictures, while Lady Snowcat dug out some mental YouTube videos. Can't wait to see what today's action brings.
- According to F1 Racing magazine, Ron Dennis has a sense of humour. So how is it that he's only decided to reveal the thing two months before he steps aside?
I can't believe you can beat the 'helmet game', but if you know of any similar challenges, don't be shy, share them via drop.io. We're easily amused.
Yesterday, our favourite ever micro-blogging service Identi.ca received a lick of paint, so now we have us a new group for purposes unknown. Currently it has but one joinee, so come along and help make us feel less lonely.
By contrast the Fantasy Racers league is going great guns, with over 100 confirmed teams signed-up already and it's still only January. If you've not created one yet, please follow the enrolment instructions and let us know who you are in the comments. We'll be awaiting your contributions.
A1GP news - Qualifying in New Zealand is underway...
Stands are 80% empty. :(
ooo a1 gp is on, that's something for me to watch. :P
oh dear :(
is it streamed online anywhere?
Used to be able to persuade the site that I was in the USA... not any more.
Ireland take Provisional pole for the sprint race.
audio and live timings here http://www.a1gp.com/Multimedia/RaceLive.aspx
one additional feature of real-time doohickey, that we're trying to squeeze in before sunday's show, looks something like this:
it's a little bit of additional meta data, that keeps track of who's left comments and which threads are popular during your active real-time session. it'll reset if the page reloads.
we'll let you know more if we can make it stable. in the meantime, if you have any thoughts or think there's other information that would make tracking conversations easier, please yell :)
that just happened in firefox btw, not chrome. gosh i was doing so well.
i fixed it :)
You can watch it.... ;)

BOO!
Moderation. :(
fixed the problem? or fixed my comment? :D
ace! thanks you both.
Oh, and my snack for quali is a bacon buttie, with home cured bacon. :D
A1GP Live timing is SO much better than the F1 one - 2 different types and both work really well...
ooh, some kimi video in drop.io. nice:
That realtime telemetry is a fantastic thing.
i think bernie could learn alot from a1gp in that respect. i love the dashbourd section of it. :D
sugar!
i have live video from the official site to. no idea how though?
I used to go through a proxy that I have hidden in the USA, but they seem to have sorted that out. :(
And the fact that the cars are bristling with cameras. I think each car has 4 or 5 cameras on it.
i need a bigger screen!
60" for me. :P
i'm not sure my laptop can cope. :)
who the heck is daniel clarke?
Odd thing is, my laptop with it's 17" screen, has a higher resolution that my plasma tv...
1920x1200 vs 1920x1080
Has been doing champ car in the US.

I didn't bet on Ireland this year... damn. :(
they are quick. terrible paint job though.
Many of the cars aren't nicely painted.
The Dutch car was better last year, although nice that it's still in it's traditional orange. New Zealand have the laziest scheme of anyone. :D
China is usually pretty good.
VERY quick, in fact. Aren't they the title favorites right now?
They are leading the championship and are currently in pole for hte sprint race and provisional pole for the feature race.
Adam Carroll seems to have the edge on most people at the moment.
Also, is it bad that I prefer the ugly painted A1GP cars to the current F1 cars?
Hang on... 19 cars?
There's 22 entered this year. Wonder who's missing...
No Pakistan, Korea or Germany(!)
If the UK can't win A1GP, I'd love Ireland to do it.
Could be an interesting comparison coming up later this year - A1GP season finale is at Interlagos. :D
Get to see how far off a F1 car they are.
Well done Team Ireland!
Double pole. That'll do nicely.
They're officially on pole for both races now. :)
Yup, indeed. :D
Great Britain has been struggling a lot this season. Usually regular frontrunners, they're doing midfield at best this year.
Daniel Albuquerque of Team Portugal has Portimao sponsorship. Check out the back of his helmet. :D
We've been missing our normal drivers. Oliver Jarvis and Robbie Kerr *I personally prefered Oliver*
But we seem to be going to relatively unknown drivers at the moment. But to be fair, Danny Watts got 2 3rd places on his first appearance.
I can't seem to find it in yesterday's comments, so I'll say it here:
Sidepodcast Diaries at Autosport!
A1GP question. Why are Ireland and Holland working together?
Love that Dashboard thing, and the video streaming is excellent, thanks for that.
The countries employ race teams to manage their cars - Ireland and Holland have the same team working on their cars, so it makes sence to share data as it will speed them both up.
Well explained, Flibster.
In seasons past, there was a similar arrangement between France and Switzerland. It helped France win the title in Season 1. Not sure if that arrangement still exists, though.
Ah, I see now, thanks.
A1 GP would be good to get into for the F1 off-season. Only taking some interest in it now because of Ireland doing so well. Surprised at that, they were embarrassing at the Race Of Champions. Some patriot I am!
Ah, music to Tony Texeira's ears. A1 have always tried to position themselves as the winter F1, but lack of funds and big-name drivers mean that it isn't going as well as they'd want it to.
Sadly the biggest names are The Andretti's and Danica Patrick....
There was rumours of Willi Webber trying to get some of is drivers involved - but as they were still in F1 at the time it was highly unlikely - in case of injury
Shame Grand Prix Masters collapsed as well. Was good seeing all those old timers having fun in cars again.
Speaking of which, when will Danica race here? She hasn't yet, right?
And it won't happen now, as Weber has sold his Team Germany to someone else, hence, their disappearance as of late.
It had a good concept, but the financials were all messed up. Lack of spectators also contributed to its downfall. After all, no one but the dedicated racing fans would really watch them.
I thought they were going to cancel that race
Didn't Ferrari fail to deliver a few cars? We were discussing this last week. I can't remember if they were delivered late or still to be delivered
There are plenty of far better drivers available than any of those that get to drive the car. Adam Carroll is a lot better driver than any of the British drivers
I think it was the one that was supposed to be after NZ that got cancelled. After this weekend, they won't be back for another... 4 weeks?
Some chassis were delivered late, but that's resolved now.
She will drive at some events and Marco Andretti at others so she won't drive in New Zealand.
I just saw the thing that was mentioned earlier. I posted a few comments via the lclt till I caught up. When I checked the doohickey which had been open the number of new posts was on the tab. That never happened before.
I meant what round will she be driving at? :)
I continued doing my helmet thingy just now, and I'm now at 94%. So close... and yet so far. :D
I did my last post just to check if you were right. And it did happen! Wow... :D
Sorry. I have no idea
I haven't looked at it for a while but I got to 89. I know a few of those I haven't got yet but just can't figure them out.
Doohickey ran for nearly 12 hours without a single stoppage. I did refresh once due to Gavin getting a comment moderated but not because of any problems. As far as I can tell it was polling OK and I am not aware of any comments being held up.
Make that 95. 5 to go. :D
I've given up and decided to research the last 5.
While looking, I found this recently revived F1 site:
http://f1colours.wordpress.com/
Guess what it focuses on? Liveries. Interesting content.
Really?!
Kimi didn't start to well in the morning. He lost 23.9s to JJ but was ahead of both Mikas again and is currently 15th

The leader (J Salo) disappeared as did Mika Salo. Kimi managed 5th on the short stage 1,9s behind the winner.

13. Kimi +05.05,1
19. Mika Häkkinen +09.22,8
J Salo is back (and still leads), M Salo is still missing
Actually he was 4th again, there are some problems with the live-timing.
Mika Salo is still missing.
Hi Kathi...
Live timing not quite up to F1 standards is it...
Well you don't have to register, it doesn't freeze or shows only gibberish. I would say it is better than F1 ;)
Just has a few hiccups.
Kimi doing particularly well on the shorter sections where reliance on pace notes isn't so vital ....
But really not bad at all given that it's his first go at this...
But no sector times and no colours....
True :)
Given that Kimi is driving a white car on snow I guess no colours is appropriate.....
Do you know if it is correct that Luca has been at the Rally?...
Haven't heard anything about that...
SS10 about to start I believe....
Wait until Race day - when I went it was packed!
Grrr... Don't you know that NZ teams are always in black? In the greenest most beautiful country in the world, we chose maudlin and depressing black as our national colour... :-(
I have been told that it's Marco's seat now as Danica wanted to get paid... the whole idea was for her to race in the series to gain road course experience (as she's terrible on them!) and she won't do it because AGR won't pay her for it! Just another reason not to like her!
Correct. The round after NZ (an Indonesian street race) got cancelled as the track is unfinished. Events being cancelled are a yearly occurrence in A1GP...
I still think Ferrari 'let it happen on purpose' to undermine the series - remember GP2 Asia only started after A1GP did - and some of the drivers have moved to that series as their 'Winter Series'.
Willi Weber doesn't want anything to do with A1GP because they never paid his team for Nico Huelkenberg winning a couple of years ago. To me, that's a big loss for the series as he was using it to blood new talent.
A1GP has lost hundreds of millions of dollars - it has never made a profit for many reasons - but apparently Colin Giltrap (the NZ seat holder) and a Lebanese businessman have put some more money in - and Giltrap reckons the series is 'financially stable'.
The series suffers from the fact that it never makes money, nobody knows the drivers and not many countries are passionate about it. In the NZ Herald yesterday, one guy said something to the effect of:
"...it would be quite boring if all the crowd saw were the A1GP cars - what they really want to see are the V8's (Touring Cars)..."
Mind you I shouldn't be that surprised - you are a bit weird if you like anything other than these "Taxi Racers" in NZ and everybody thinks F1 is boring - we have one of the best A1GP teams and the coverage of the series is terrible - none of the Asian races (except NZ) are shown live because they are on at 8pm Sunday night - primetime TV time!
I have difficulty with A1GP when the drivers keep changing...
I can't get onto this "country" thing... but then I don't support a British driver in F1...
I think they're going for a football atmosphere ... it doesn't work!
The racing can be quite good as young kids in powerful cars means they really go for it!
Wow... JJ Lehto looks a lot older these days...
Well I watched the Hulk do exceptionally well two years ago and Robert Wickens had some good races last year....
It's a shame Adam Carroll doesn't seem able to get a steady GP2 drive...
Weird to see the F1 "failures" turning up and I can't say that Marco Andretti is looking too brilliant at present... not clearly F1 material do you think?....
Live timing results from Rovaniemi coming through....
They're still good drivers though?
Sidepodtour continues. Spending the afternoon at Silverstone. More details later.
Good but I think we are trying to spot the great ones that could graduate to F1...
That's why GP2 was a bit of a let down last year...
Hi Christine...
What's happening at Silverstone today?....
Piquet made it to F1, Huelkenberg and Glock too. Buemi is there and there's bound to be a couple of others.
I would say that A1GP is below the Level of Euro F3 and GP2... but very useful for those who want some extra exposure...
It's a meeting of the "Keep the British GP at Silverstone" committee.
They went to Silverstone for a meeting? I thought there'd be some racing on or something. ;)
In January?
Hulkenburg has tested in F1 but got no further so far... I do expect him to...
It's Glock's second time around and he and Piquet came via GP2 ... although I believe Piquet did do a few A1GP races.....
Nico H is currently doing the GP2 Asia series....
Good old Silverstone ... far too little... far too late....
Rally update ss 10/12
Mika S is still missing. No big changes
Meh, I dunno, maybe some unknown historic F1 thing or something.
True, as I said before, A1GP is well below the level of GP2 - but I was just pointing out that they all made an appearance in A1GP.
Huelkenberg dominated the series when he was in it - in my opinion he should be in F1!
Williams gets £14.5m from Ecclestone
Anybody else know about this? Williams always said they had the budget in place, but I assumed that came from proper planning and sponsorship money.
If Williams are having trouble then that's a worry. We need them in F1!
Willi Weber is saying the exact same thing. Mind you, the French drivers did the same when they were around, but neither ended up in F1.
As I said, lack of funds. And to think Michael Schumacher even graced a number of A1 events that season... Is it fair to assume then that he wasn't paid for those either?
Yup. It should be on the Wiki. If it isn't, let me know so I can post the YouTube link.
Williams have been in touble for some while...
Most of their sponsors have serious problems and one has jumped ship for Macca....
But don't forget their only reason to be around is to race in F1...
Frank and Patrick have always said that they would be prepared to go racing on a shoe string if necessary....
Wayhay, go team Ireland!
But the less money they have, they less competitive they'll be. The less competitive they are, the less money they'll get. It's an endless spiral, and it only goes downward.
Case in point: Tyrrell. Despite Ken's best efforts and passion for the sport, Tyrrell just weren't competitive enough. Also, as Frank already said, they still need to be profitable to ensure their survival in the sport.
More of Kimi in action from today's Arctic Rally ss9....
Right here....
Cool! Cheers :-D
The WRC Finland rally is in the beginning of August during F1's summer break.
Come on Kimi you know you want to...
Whilst it's great that the Kimster gets the opportunity to play at rallying in the close season, I really really don't want him distracted from F1 in the season...
It is great because F1 drivers are usually wrapped in cotton wool... and because Kimi does some wild stuff (like the snowmobile race)
How would that distract him from F1?
It wouldn't, unless he starts trying to cut corners by driving sideways through the gravel...
:p
I get the feeling that Williams will struggle on for a couple more years and then Frank and Patrick will leave/sell/liquidate the company. I see Williams becoming the next Tyrrell :-(
Of course it's a distraction...
It is a completely different driving style and Kimi would want to do well...
It would also be a step up to the WRC from this weekend...
I shall have to check out when Valentino does his rallying...
I think it's in the close season isn't it... but even then cars are very different to bikes...
And?
He doesn't have to take part in the highest class. Just some fun to relax from F1
Well, I think the physical effort one needs to race competitively in F1 is such that it's no longer possible for drivers to join multiple formulae in a single season. This practice began to fade in the 70s as cars got faster, and many were probably thinking that they had to conserve their full energy for F1.
Well nothing Kimi ever did would surprise me but if competitive driving against Seb Loeb is relaxing from F1 I am missing something...
Not quite in the "powerboat race dressed as a gorilla" league, nor the "snowmobile race as James Hunt" league....
I personally would rather he didn't but, as I said, nothing he does is surprising....
I think they’re going for a football atmosphere … it doesn’t work! {Gavin Brown - 41 comments ago}
The irony is that they currently have more football atmosphere in their rounds than Superleague Formula have in most of theirs, and Superleague Formula was supposedly the approved football-motorsport crossover event.
I have a leaflet advertising the inaugural Superleague Formula race, which I have a horrible feeling may become an obscure collector's item...
It's also for insurance purposes, and because if a driver takes part in another series he still has to represent his sponsors, etc.
Which is why Kimi is stuck in a Fiat this weekend...
I don't know how they came up with Superleague 'Formula' (by the way, you can't call it a 'Formula' when everybody uses the same car - it's a 'Spec' Series)! How many people like F1 and football? I mean, there are quite a few but it's not like your average football fan follows F1 as passionately?
Can you imagine a football crowd at a Superleague event chanting obscene things at another team? Would they have fights behind the pit garages too?
Exactly... But the Abarth is a nice car so that's ok!
Anybody else know about this? Williams always said they had the budget in place, but I assumed that came from proper planning and sponsorship money. {Gavin Brown - 19 comments ago}
It's a worry because it's not normal for teams to request advances on their TV money. However, Williams signed for five years worth of Concorde Agreement from 2008-2012 back in 2005 (not just the MOU signed by most of the teams when they entered in March 2006; Toro Rosso and Force India also signed the Concorde Agreement prior to March 2006, but the lack of unanimity means that the previous Concorde Agreement is the one in force for now). One could argue that the 20% "advance" is money Williams could reasonably have expected to have earned, since they've kept their end of the bargain. Bernie simply doesn't want them bailing out of the MOU (or threatening to do so) simply because other teams are less flexible over the wording of the Agreement.
That said, Jordan asked for an advance on its TV money to tide it over in 1991 and it did pretty well after that (though I will grant there were a few years of rough times prior to it securing its own future).
But Bernie also said F1 'needs' Ferrari, Williams and Mclaren (and he's 100% right for once) so I wouldn't doubt that he gave his old mate Frank a loan... they do go back 30-odd years remember :-)
Now that is just a stereotypical view of football. We don't have fights all the time y'know. Fair enough there is chanting, but thats football.
Great news! I won the Cleveland race in RLB IndyCar! :D

I don’t know how they came up with Superleague ‘Formula’ (by the way, you can’t call it a ‘Formula’ when everybody uses the same car - it’s a ‘Spec’ Series) {Gavin Brown - 3 comments ago}
I think some football committee thought it sounded suitably motorsport-ish to the uninitiated. The lack of accuracy in such a name was probably a minor issue to them at best.
How many people like F1 and football? {Gavin Brown - 3 comments ago}
That I know? None.
Can you imagine a football crowd at a Superleague event chanting obscene things at another team? Would they have fights behind the pit garages too? {Gavin Brown - 3 comments ago}
Thankfully not. Though I heard there was a fight behind the pit garages in GP2 this year, it was between rival teams, not rival spectators...
Though if the spectators at the Australian Open are capable of engaging in a riot after they've watched their volleys and serves, anything is possible!
It may be the same assumptions made by the SF founders. I am a big football and F1 supporter and my team isn't a nice one.
Question for you - you are a Spurs supporter, correct? Have you been following your SF car as much as Harry's boys?
But Bernie also said F1 ‘needs’ Ferrari, Williams and Mclaren (and he’s 100% right for once) so I wouldn’t doubt that he gave his old mate Frank a loan… they do go back 30-odd years remember
This is also true. It's not like Frank's going to walk away from the sport after four races because he might have to sell his private jet to keep the team going* or because his bosses said the previous quarter's sales figures have gone through the floor.
* - He sold his jet at the start of 2003 to give Williams more funds. I can't see the average manufacturer boss being quite that committed...
Great news! I won the Cleveland race in RLB IndyCar! {Scott Woodwiss - 5 comments ago}
Congratulations! Also, good luck with next year's negotiations (it's getting about that time).
On the same topic, I've had a race offer for Formula Trinity, which I'm currently mulling over.
Nah. Couldn't give a damn about the series. Waste of time in my opinion, plus were not exactly brillaint either.
Good luck with that Alianora
Congrats Scotty.
Thanks Ali. I see you've been granted your Amatuer Licence for next season.
Yep, the RLB silly season is just about getting into the swing of things already. I have my Super Licence back though, and there's a chance I'll be back there with one of a couple of teams.
Is it Flowtech? :P
Question for you - you are a Spurs supporter, correct? Have you been following your SF car as much as Harry’s boys?
Nah. {R.G. - 3 comments ago}
I'm the other way round. I keep half an eye on AS Roma (because Fisichella's team is involved), even though I don't particularly care about the football side of what they do.
Good luck with that Alianora {R.G. - 3 comments ago}
Thank you!
I see you’ve been granted your Amatuer Licence for next season. {Scott Woodwiss - 2 comments ago}
I hadn't spotted that (I last logged onto RLB last night). Good to hear I have an Amateur Licence - I'll need it to compete in FTrinity next season.
Is it Flowtech? {Scott Woodwiss - 3 comments ago}
I am currently not in a position to confirm or deny the identity of any parties I may or may not be negotiating with.
Is that you, Jenson Button? :P
Typical. I want to log into RLB but the login failed. ftLog won't have it either, suggesting it's not precisely a RLB problem.
Is that you, Jenson Button? {Journeyer - 2 comments ago}
:D
My point exactly - and I think that a lot of football supporters who have their team competing feel the same way.
The only reason it holds interest for me is because they use V12 engines - the best sound in all of Motorsports!
So you follow a SF team because of the Motorsport connection and not the football one then. I guess that's why I can't see the series working well...
I don't know how much we spend having the team in the series, but I'm sure there is better use for the money, ie, keeping Spurs in the premiership.
That is true, and another problem with the series is that its on Setanta, and if only 200,000 watch England football games on it, its got no hope of doing well in England.
So I hear... we had it on Eurosport here but it was badly promoted and frankly I ended up torrenting it. Having said that, I haven't watched a single race yet!
had a chat with mark webber. back soon.
WOW! (Falls over on floor)...
Man I can wait to hear about this...
You lucky little ba..nk manager
;)
And you say it as if it was a matter of fact. You lucky you... :P
Did you tell him about your visit to his pub last year, BTW?
Is he a bank manager? :D
It was something instead of swearing, I thought family place, so banks.
I am live commenting today from Dulwich Picture Gallery :)
Sweet! Any exclusive inside info on how his leg is recovering?
I'm not sure we want 'Inside info' on Mark Webber's leg... :-D
That is true, and another problem with the series is that its on Setanta, and if only 200,000 watch England football games on it, its got no hope of doing well in England. {R.G. - 8 comments ago}
The fact that the only adverts I saw for it in Nottingham were leaflets in a local delicatessan and on the sides of certain buses (several of which are still on display now) probably didn't help get the locals interested either. Though since Nottingham's local League football team is struggling to play football let alone manage a side project in motorsport, they probably wouldn't have flocked to Donington anyway...
Hahaha! I wouldn't think of a bank as a family place, but there ya go. :P
Hey! Watcha doing there?
Indeed, to be fair though, they would want the best teams in the world, which Notts Forest and Notts County are hardly not. Neither are half the teams in the Superleague as well. Promotional wise, I didn't know it was on Setanta, never promoted anywhere I looked, not shown on other tv channels as an ad. Poor.
They got a couple of big teams but they also got loads of small, never heard of teams.
Where were the teams like Man United, Barcelona etc? Some of the Asian teams are probably so poor that teams like Forest and County could wipe the floor with them...
It should have been set up more like a Champions League instead.
I'm looking at the Saul Steinberg exhibition.
Room 1 completed
Yeah, there is about 8 teams everyone has heard about and really should be in the 'Superleague', then you got the likes of Spurs, PSV, Borussia, who are good, but surely not good enough. And then the Al-Ain and Beijing's, and wondering, how did they get in?
But to be fair, Beijing beat everyone.
I'm looking forward to this post! :)
Money.
Season 2009 cartoon from Mr. Mantovani - I like it, especially the Kimi bit!

Un-be-le-va-ble. Up to 3rd on the first bloomin lap and then I hit Alianora.
At least it isn't Andy Trig.
Very nice!
I've become the Villeneuve of BATracer.
So unlucky for Al! Leading until the second to last lap...
And now I'm done. Literally zero relevence to f1.
Giggles - The cultural correspondent of Sidepodcast...
You're lucky, I think I'm the Nelson Piquet Jnr :(
I must be the David Coulthard then, hitting everyone.
Pity you aren't still chatting to him, think of the scoop that would be if he would just drop in to Sidepodchat :D
Sounds good either that or the pub corrospondent. Which is where I am now
Drunken Giggles!
That would be Gluggles...

A man has gone to the loo and left his wallet on the side of the bar. And the wallet is open with money sticking out!
Crazy! You can tell we're in Dulwich though as nobody has gone to rob it. And the beer is 3.50 a pint!
It's his round then!
A1GP: White knight on the way
Cool! I wonder who it is? I hope it's not like the Honda-buyers story - if we believed all those reports they would have been bought 5 times over by now...
Such announcements are very scary. And someone from the Far East? Interesting. I just do hope that this guy's money is clean, given all the corruption going on around here.
That, or he could have the so called 'bottomless pockets' a la Manchester City. It might be good if a lot of money is invested into A1GP, but may be bad if he tries to promote it over too much?
Just got in from work and read BATracer.
I think Im going to be sick. :(
I present you guys with this:
http://www.atom.com/spotlights/inauguration_speech_generator/
Why? Because I done this:
My fellow Americans, today is a Sebastian Vettel day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "Ralf Schumacher", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually Michael Schumacher.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces Jarno Trulli and Shinji Nakano challenges like never before. Our economy is Gaston Mazzacane. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for Gerhard Berger. Our healthcare system is Nigel Mansell. If your Mika Hakkinen is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a Rubens Barrichello. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a Nick Heidfeld Robert Kubica. But Takuma Sato together we can right this ship, and set a course for Donington Park.
Finally, I must thank my Yuji Ide family, my Damon Hill campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank Jenson Button for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of Mark Webber the American people. Without your Fernando Alonso efforts, none of this would have been possible.
I love it.
'You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "Ralf Schumacher".' :D
Terrific endless fun for all.....
My fellow Americans, today is a blinding day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "Honda", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually drive.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces cute and cuddly challenges like never before. Our economy is furry. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for Ferraris. Our healthcare system is dangerous. If your funny bone is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a comedian. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a Earth Dream. But Frying together we can right this ship, and set a course for Interlagos.
Finally, I must thank my funny family, my hot campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank Elvis for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of stewarding the American people. Without your careful efforts, none of this would have been possible.
My fellow Americans, today is a sennaesque day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "Rubens", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually scandalous.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces stupid and completely outrageously british challenges like never before. Our economy is intense. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for people. Our healthcare system is bluey. If your jim rosenthal's vampire nose is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a professional Jarno Trulli interpretator. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a Toyota Sidepodcast. But sniffing together we can right this ship, and set a course for Ruben's back garden.
Finally, I must thank my funny family, my pretty messed up campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank all my homies in the FIA for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of conspiracising the American people. Without your jealous efforts, none of this would have been possible.
My fellow Americans, today is a laughing day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "sidepodcast", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually record.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces dangerous and horrendous mistakes challenges like never before. Our economy is gone. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for website servers. Our healthcare system is on the brink. If your Mr C anonomity is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a Panda suit service. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a drunken giggling Alex Andronov. But getting together we can right this ship, and set a course for NEC in Birmingham.
Finally, I must thank my collective family, my ingenious campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank Franck Montagny for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of ruining the F1 the American people. Without your pathetic efforts, none of this would have been possible.
Uh-oh... ;)
My fellow Americans, today is a appeal day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "KERS", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually avoid.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces pointless and ugly challenges like never before. Our economy is for sale. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for Bernie. Our healthcare system is HANS. If your helmet is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a GP2 driver. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a Max Mosley party. But spending together we can right this ship, and set a course for Abu Dhabi.
Finally, I must thank my Senna-esque family, my medals campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank me for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of lying to the American people. Without your amusing efforts, none of this would have been possible.
Tyrrell never got past its first generation. When Stewart retired and Cevert died the team started going down fast. Williams has been through a few generations so is more robust. It may be unkind but Tyrrell was a one trick pony and when the pony's jockey retired it just trotted round in circles.
Normally he does the GB rally in November and he has done the NZ rally.
The trouble is the essence of football is us againt them whereas motor racing is us against 20 of them. Totally different ethos.
Is it a competitive car?
Here's my speech. I'm only posting the link because it has a bad word in it. Soz, I tried to change it but it was too late. Funny nonetheless :D

The majority of football fans who have teams competing in it know nothing of the formula nor that their team is competing in it.
Aye. I only knew of it cos it was in Autosport one week with the Spurs car in it. It was mentioned on the Spurs site, but I missed it.
I thought you were refering to the Monty Python swearing substitute. He is a merchant banker
Either that or the Mary Whitehouse Experience swearing substitute:

Is anyone following the Daytona 24? If so, what's the latest?
Forgot all about it.
I have completed my BAT racer practise and set a good time. Can't imagine how I did that time as you will see in the notes.
Here is the Daytona 24 Hour site....
Just enjoy the "Live Timing"....
Or Live Timeing as they have decided to spell it!!.....
Un-be-le-va-ble. Up to 3rd on the first lap and then I hit Alianora. {R.G. - 35 comments ago}
The irony is that had BATRacer not added a phantom pitstop, I'd have scored a point regardless of R.G.'s bad day.
German race completed on BATracer.
I’ve become the Villeneuve of BATracer. {Gavin Brown - 34 comments ago}
I think I must be the Jarno Trulli of Sidepodcast - I do really well right up to the race, at which point I am liable to either starting a BATRacer Bullet (Train) or vanish into the ether.
You can qualify well too.
We have video
http://www.justin.tv/phoenixscanner
I used a random word generator to fill this speech. Something tells me Obama's speechwriter used a slightly more sophisticated approach:
My fellow Americans, today is a historical day. You have shown the world that "hope" is not just another word for "refund", and that "change" is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually bite.
Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces illustrated and condensed challenges like never before. Our economy is parenthesised. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for operators. Our healthcare system is discouraged. If your nerve is sick and you don't have insurance, you might as well call a wrecker. And America's image overseas is tarnished like a method sleep. But positioning together we can right this ship, and set a course for Commerce House.
Finally, I must thank my interfering family, my doomed campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank team for making this historic occasion possible. Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of opening the American people. Without your disastrous efforts, none of this would have been possible.
Yeah, video but the audio's rubbish. :P
You can qualify well too. {R.G. - 3 comments ago}
Thanks :)
I am now attempting to work out how I got 10th in a Toyota in Singapore despite having a lousy set-up and embarking on a bone-dry track on intermediates.
Answers on a postcard please...
While I scored pole at Monaco in a McLaren on my other account :)
Radio Le Mans are not covering it unfortunately
Everyone else can't be bothered?
I managed in my first mid-season game as Toro Rosso to get 7th at Montreal. Go me!
For my newest account with the McLaren, I've already scored 2 wins, 2 poles, 2 podiums and a fastest lap to go towards my world ranking.

Well done, R.G!
Everyone else can’t be bothered? {R.G. - 3 comments ago}
The worrying thing is that I'm only 16th in the World Rankings. In other words, most of my opponents in that series have been in long enough that they shouldn't have commitment issues.

Good work, Scott! Something tells me you'll be a Pro racer again before mid-season...
Aha, but I already am for I invested in KT for this account too. Although I did get into a bit of trouble for entering an Academy game and then activating it, which isn't really allowed. But I apologised and that account will become my permanent one as soon as the games on my original account are finished.
Anyone fancy a game of Spot the difference?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/spotthedifference3-jpg
There's 10 differences to find - Good luck :-)
The pics are a bit small.
I do now... ;)
fine for me. have you downloaded?
ok:
- gravel missing lower right
- yellow kerbing missing top right
- bmw logo missing from roll hoop.
this is harder than i thought.
I got them and realised if I stared any harder I'd end up asleep on my laptop.
hehe.
i can add:
- front left wheel fairing missing
- radio thingy missing from nose
oo i've got another one, the bottom slit thingy missing from the rear wing.
There's a little logo missing from the front nose.
I was staring at that for ages and didn't notice anything! :)
Where'd Jolly go? :(
I don't know .. he starts the fun and then keeps quiet!
i like his style!
- there's a wishbone missing from the right front suspension
another one - there is a support missing from the rear wing
Bigger file dropped

I was trying to drop a bigger picture and my computer did a Toyota and crashed
Sure it didn't do a DC?
opps
On drop.io, someone on another forum posted images of the old Hockenheim as it is now.
Quite sad to look at.
think lou meant the little aero slices? top one missing.
Two, I think.
blimey. it's just a field :(
yeah that's what i meant. sorry, descriptive skills go out the window at 11:30 ;)
yes I realised that as I posted hence the opps :-) Sorry
:(

TWO to go :-) your doing well
They ripped up the circuit and let it go to seed. Why they haven't planted trees is a mystery though. I heard that they even had to move the Jim Clark Memorial headstone so that it's closer to the new track.
Why did they have to ruin this circuit? It was always fantastic to see the cars blast off into the forest and return to struggle through the stadium section. The new track is ok - but it's not even a patch on the old one and sadly we will never be able to see it again :-(
think we got the front wishbone too.

And the last one is............
Ha ha Jolly, sounds like you are encouraging a lady in labour to push a bit harder. LOL
There are a different number of louvres on the rear wing
wow, well done, that's impossible to find unless you know it's there.
BMW sticker on the airbox
is that the proper name for the slit thingys?
Red faced :-)

Well done everyone :-)
That's an intresting thought, maybe they let people walk it? Doubt it, probably just forgot about it and let it go to waste
do you have another one jolly? that was fun
Slit thingy sounds good to me
That's the worst thing! They just ripped it up as if it weren't good enough for any racing. Such a shame...
Aye, surely could have still used it for another series or whatnot.
Tomorrow evening if that cool with the me
sounds good to me. if you time it just before the live show, you'll cleverly disguise the fact we're running late again ;)
;-)

Oooh - forgot about A1GP tonight...
*turns over quickly*
sorted. great pics, cheers.
oo me too! amazing a1 gp live timing and telemetry here i come :D
mine says it starts in one hour?
Program started at 00:30 - race starts in ummm... sometime. ;)
mine too... well it did before my web browsers chrashed and had to resort to my ipod until it sorts itself out. i have serious worries about my laptop now :s
oh dear :(
hehe.
a gonna have to take it into pcworld or somewhere come monday, it's getting ridiculous.
DON'T DO IT!
PC World techs are monkeys. I've had to fix a number of machines after they have been 'fixed' by PC World....
Sprint race on now - it's always delayed. Feature race will be live.
oh... they did an ok job of fixing it before... plus the guy who did it was one of the techs who works for the silverstone gp. I've no where else to take it though. and i don't have enough money to buy a new laptop, plus this one is such a pain and it's only a year old.
What is it and whats the symptoms?
Chaos in the pitlane! :D
it's an acer aspire 5920 running vista, and atm any time i have more that a few tabs open, or a few programs running with a web browser i get a message saying there is not enough memory to continue or something like that. then is closes everything and refuses to open the web browser again (either FF or Chrome) so i have to restart it. i was thinking it was a RAM issue or something, whatever it is i am unhappy specially as it's so young.
Australia - front wheels pointing in different directions. Broken wishbone. Hit a kerb *and camera...still works though* very hard - launched the car into the air
Is the message "Not enough virtual memory"? And after the message appears the hard drive just seems to thrash a lot?
If so, increasing the memory in the machine will help, but it could be that the c: on the machine is getting full.
Vista is unhappy on anything less than 2gb of memory.
Something else it could be is spyware. May be worth downloading spybot serch and destroy and running that
Guess what I do for a living... ;)
;)
Ah i'll jump in here as well if I may
Have a mac G4 powerbook that refuses to power on. Was using it and it just died - no amount of resuscitation has brought it back. It's just dead, no nothing (except power in cord shows green circle)
Any ideas?
no it's not that, plus i have 70+ GB free hard drive memory. without it coming up again i couldn't tell you what it was exactly, but it's something like 'not enough memory to continue, please close some of the following programs' (and then it lists them)
:D
Aha, but I already am for I invested in KT for this account too. {Steve Woodwiss - 60 comments ago}
Now that would make a difference ;)
Doorstop? ;)
*I use a iPhone as a paperweight so as you can probably guess, I'm not a mac person. ;) *
G4 powerbooks don't have removeable batteries iirc so you can't get another battery from somewhere and switch them to see if it comes on with that.
Could well be that the power circuit has gone phut. More than likely it's a new motherboard repair.
Ireland wins!
Woo for Ireland!
sounds like a knackered pram battery to me. but there are a *number* of mac experts who frequent spc, so probs best if they answer this one :)
aaha.... it's 1:25 am - so it's time for the drunken fight outside the flat.. As a change though, it's a girlfight tonight.
just read that sentence back. would've read better if i'd cased it correctly... PRAM battery :)
Can we get video so that we can live comment it
MEOW! :P
Does it happen often when trying to copy files?
I have something kicking parts of my memory that are long unused.. Hmmm.
When is the next A1GP race start
:D
Am expecting one shortly too. :)
Probably not a good idea - I'd have to delay it by a few seconds to bleep it. :D
Half an hour I think...
By all means. :D
Thanks
Ireland wins! {Dom - 11 comments ago}
YAY! :D :D :D
Oh god... terrible Cadburys advert now...
rofl :-)
Think i prefer the idea of new "PRAM" battery to a new mothercircuit (it sounds cheaper)
Thanks
I once suggested to someone that they could turn their iMac into a boat anchor. :D
nope, it just seems to happen randomly when i have a few tabs or programs open. Earlier it did it when i had Chrome (x2 tabs) and itunes open, but before that it did it when i just had about 4 tabs in chrome open and nothing else.
Got the machine running at the moment?
yep, am using it ;)
Cool. Go into the tack manager and to to the processes tab.
Across the bottom of the window it should show current number of processes, cpu usage and physical memory.
How many processes and what physical memory is in use?
Also, if you click on the memory column heder it will sort by memory usage. I suspect that something is using an abnormal amount of memory.
I miss having remote monitor software installed....
Made my life so much easier. :D
a question for ya, where is tack manager? (you can tell i'm not brilliant with comps can't ya ;) )
task manager
ooooh. sorry i understand. should have guessed. silly me.
It's not letting me tell you - tried three times and gets put into moderation. :D
Ctrl-alt-del and select it from there.
My bad- can't type :D
ok so, current number of processes = 102
physical memory in use = 55%
what would you class as an abnormal amount of memory usage? Chrome looks to be using the most...
We have just had ' gentleman start your engines' in A1GP
102 processes?!? I hover around 60ish and I'm a heavy user.
Chrome is a bit of a memory hog at the moment, it's getting better though.
55% memory usage is fine though. Hmmm.
i only have chrome open if that helps...
New Zealand stuffs it up. Pulls into the pits.
New zealand clouted Lebanon. . :(
Thats a lot. May well be worth getting SPybot search and destroy installed and left running checking for any suspect processes
I love that AIGP telemetry dashboard
It's fantastic isn't it. :D
The Live timing is good too as it shows the packs as well with the yellow lines on the left edge.
spybot? what's that?
It's a app that will search your pc for any spyware or adware or anything that shouldt's be there like trojans and the like.
I'm assuming you have an up to date anti virus on the machine here.
oh right, i see. Do you have a link to the download? and yep, it's all up to date.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html - thats the list of mirrors to download it.
I have Spybot, pretty decent it is. Get it anyway, can't hurt.
It's saved some friends arses on more than one occasion.
Thank you :)
Monaco get it very very VERY wrong....
On the left is also the tutorial and FAQ's - very good resource. Make sure it updates before you run it.
I think the fault was with the other guy
eeek, mum is awake and is unhappy that i'm not asleep. Have to go, thanks so much for your help Flibster, i will download it in the morning :)
Not a problem, hopefully it'll help.
thanks, will do :)
ah damn i wanted to watch the rest of A1gp. oh well, Night all x
Night Lou
I just saw monaco bouncing across the gravel, grass, gravel, grass and then the track... Huge clouuds of dust. :D
Not quite enough for Portugal...
He was running half way past Brazil? and the guy didn't realise he was there and chopped him
Aaaah right.
I saw the aftermath then.
3.6s lead for Ireland. Not bad at all. 34 laps left though.
ooooh... close one there for china. Nearly got clouted by South Africa...
Annnnd there goes Team GB. Managed to get it out of the gravel!? Well done you lucky SoB....
I have never seen a class with such fast cars where there are so many rookie driving errors. The guy from Indonesia spun earlier on because he planted his foot on the throttle mid corner
Ireland lose the lead in the pits!!
Anti-stall kicked in for Ireland and the Swiss lead!
Still a long way to go so can Ireland chase him down?
It's the virtually unknown drivers they use, the cars are around GP2 levels I think, but the drivers aren't of that standard
I think that's a fare assessment.
Unlucky for Adam Carroll
fair not fare
Just as well for Neel Jani that he did not pit when he was told to or Adam Carroll would just have driven straight out
There are exceptions though. Nico Hulkenburg was a big shock to everyone else - as were the french in Season 1... mostly though, they've been pretty naff...
China turning their car into a 6-wheeler
I does help if the jack isn't taken with the car.
Drive through for China. Fair enough.
Like Johnny Herbert at Monaco
Happened fairly regularly in F1. Maybe once a season.
Telemetary broken?
Safety Car on track.
It is for some cars. Ireland is not working
Not getting it for any, still showing the position on track though
Can't see the Safety car's telemetry either. Boo! ;)
I have Swiss telemetry
Ireland is back. I can get all of the first four
Yup. Seems to have been a little blip.
Frankie Cheng isn't having a good race is he?
He was surprisingly good last year, this year, useless.
Nice dustscreen there for Malaysia - spun under breaking
Seems odd that can't handle carbon brakes. He had a couple of Williams tests
Could be that the car is very sensitive to brake temperature or balance...
Swiss car has an oil leak now....could be a bit dangerous for people following.
I thought I saw a little smoke from the Swiss engine earlier. There seems to be the occasional wisp from the left bank
Swiss take the feature race, Ireland finish 2nd just 1second behind.
So unlucky there for Ireland.
Adam Carroll deserved the win. If Neel Jani had pitted when he was told to he would not have been there to trigger the Irish anti-stall
Did Jani pit a lap after schedule? If so, I don't think the Swiss mind now all that much, given how it affected Carroll.
John Watson said that they called him in but he did not pit. Then the next lap he came in so ireland had to swerve round them to get out and they are suggesting that was enough to trigger the anti-stall,
I can't see the team being too upset about it...
Hmmm... Well, two wrongs made a right in that case.
Nice collection of legs there. ;)
Nice to see Chris Amon presenting the winner's trophy instead of some politician no-one has ever heard of.
Heyhey! Chris Amon!
When did Jonesy become so polite?
:) Good one R.G. :)
I does help if the jack isn’t taken with the car. {Flibster - 28 comments ago}
Very true. Ask Adrian Sutil's mechanic in charge of the rear jack (he got hit by one in Brazil 2007 after there was some sort of misunderstanding in Adrian's pit stop).
