Today is Pedro de la Rosa's birthday, and the Spaniard is turning 39. Hopefully he won't be celebrating too hard and will instead be preparing for the upcoming test in Barcelona. It kicks off on Thursday, so he has a couple of days to eat cake, I suppose. Meanwhile, here are a couple of the things we're talking about:

  • Ahead of Joe's meetup in London on Friday, we've got a competition for you! We're giving away a signed copy of The Grand Prix Saboteurs, and there's just a simple question (and a little luck) standing between you and it. You've got a couple of weeks to enter as well, but do it now before you forget!
  • F1 Big Picture was updated yesterday with a couple of great photos. I am particularly partial to this one, as I do like the shadows, plus it's good to see Alonso and Webber side by side. Let's hope we can get some overtaking action in the races as well as in testing.
  • Kubica has been talking about the Renault and it looks like he's hoping they have some upgrades before the racing gets underway in Bahrain. He's also keen to point out that there won't be a number on in his team, which I find odd because a) who cares? and b) he then goes on to admit that Petrov hasn't driven in F1 so he would still be learning. Bless teams and drivers always keen to show there's no favouritism.

That should do it for now. Let us know how your week is going, and I will see you in the comments.

Hello new day. Have a pic of the new Penske colour scheme.

that's a bit pink, but it could be worse.

that's a bit pink, but it could be worse.

    I can't see any pink.

Of note - the Marlboro / Philip Morris money has run out, and the endplates are different colours now so we can tell them a part more easily.

Just to let you know I am alive and home safe and sound. I hope you saw the belgian guiness on the drop :)

  • Pat W24/02/2010 at 00:16

There is an IndyCar test at Barber over the next few days. I had earlier wondered if that would clash with a potential USF1 test but I think we can rest easy :-)

He seems to have a poor idea of what constitutes an apology. When you make a public apology you don't highlight that you received abusive e-mails etc. Equally when you have been shooting your mouth off about plagiarism it is really stupid to defend a site using plagiarised content.

I feel the need to leave him a comment.

I don't know, most of their site is under construction for a relaunch. I can't see where the money comes from but who knows. It all seems a bit odd.

Question; how much (roughly) do we think it costs to get GMM content?

I think the best part of that story was Peter Windsor's shock, when he asked the staff a supposedly rhetorical question..."who doesn't think we will make it to Bahrain".... and everyone raised their hands. Wow!

Sorry, I am trying to catch up on the previous comments.

Eternal optimism? Or lack of grasp on reality? Maybe it just shows us how detached from the project he really was...he was probably kept on a need to know basis, as he was the one sprouting all the PR. The people from Oz will remember last year about how much he was pushing the USF1 thing on our TV screens, (being an Aussie and all), and he made it sound like they were going to be giving the front of the grid a scare in a few years. Bizarre.

His whole attitude to this enterprise has been bizarre. First we had the big Speed launch and all the promises of openeness followed by a year of radio silence and the odd video or photo realeased all of which were anything but convincing.

Someone with a cross to bear? In the eternal words of The Smiths: "there's always someone, somewhere with a big nose, who knows... who'll trip you up and laugh when you fall"

Someone wanted to expose the truth behind this facade.

Still here while waiting for a song to end. :)

He's a young blogger/writer, he's bound to make mistakes. If this episode convinces him GMM are worthless and that he's better off working from his own Wordpress site to post analysis (as I believe he is), then he could turn out to be an asset rather than a liability. I think that's worth a shot, I might be wrong but we won't know until we try.

We all spout off about GMM yet when the opportunity crops up to convert someone, we're just going to lock them out? I don't like that.

My reply is up and he's responded maturely. Now we wait to see how the blog develops. My work here is done. :)

My reply is up and he's responded maturely. Now we wait to see how the blog develops. My work here is done. :)

    noted, understood and agreed.

  • me24/02/2010 at 01:45

All you would get is 5 tweets promising the Earth then nothing for a year apart from the occasional toaster ad

But what a well produced toaster ad that would be!

    heeeh!

  • Steven Roy24/02/2010 at 01:46

I can't believe USF1 have been this stupid. They would make a killing on USF1 toasters!!

I can't believe in a year they have released no merchandise. They could have financed their team on merchandise. I was in Charlotte airport a year before the Carolina Panthers played their first NFL game and shops were doing a load of business in team merchandise. It seems odd to someone from this part of the world that people would buy merchandise for a team that is at least a year from competing but it does happend over there.

Especially for a team that brands themselves as USF1.

    Exactly

Those Aussies are really good at balancing a bobsled on 2 wheels

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 01:50

ooh also it appears that qantas are the new ING who were the new qantas in that they are the title sponsor of this years australian gp

  • Steven Roy24/02/2010 at 01:50

ooh also it appears that qantas are the new ING who were the new qantas in that they are the title sponsor of this years australian gp

So you are going to get a 747 flying over at 50 feet again

  • me24/02/2010 at 01:51

So you are going to get a 747 flying over at 50 feet again

They have done this every year of the GP even when Qantas weren't title sponsor.. its kinda cool!

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 01:53

    #needsmorefosters

you know Foster's is the Aussie joke to the rest of the world, right?

  • me24/02/2010 at 01:54

    i don't care about the drink ;)

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 01:55

    i don't care about the drink ;)

aha!! so you do know. we don't care about it either.

  • me24/02/2010 at 01:57

aha!! so you do know. we don't care about it either.

i understand why too, although i think maybe it doesn't taste as bad a people suggest, and in a double-blind test i couldn't tell it for anything else. the marketing though is a complete farce.

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 01:57

ooh also it appears that qantas are the new ING who were the new qantas in that they are the title sponsor of this years australian gp

so they've either reupgraded, or the sponsorship price went down.

So you are going to get a 747 flying over at 50 feet again

we already had that in bahrain and abu dhabi even when qantas moved out.

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 01:59

last year they flew over an a380. Every year i cant help but wonder what would happen if the entire f1 paddock was wiped out in one aviation accident

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 01:59

I don't think it tastes that bad also, but I really dislike being forced to buy it at the GP for want of any other choice, until recently. But, we certainly don't buy/drink it outta choice here, and I love how it is pushed overseas as "The Aussie man's drink".

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:01

and I love how it is pushed overseas as "The Aussie man's drink".

that is the problem right there.

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 02:01

last year they flew over an a380. Every year i cant help but wonder what would happen if the entire f1 paddock was wiped out in one aviation accident

Are you sure? maybe I did have too much of that Fosters, I thought it was a run of the mill 747.

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:01

last year they flew over an a380. Every year i cant help but wonder what would happen if the entire f1 paddock was wiped out in one aviation accident

depends if bernie was included. consider it sacrificing a few for the greater good.

    plus kimi is elsewhere.

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 02:01

that is the problem right there.

maybe they should flip the advertising on its head, and tell people that we don't drink it here... they might sell more.

    they suck.

Yeah having said that, I realise it's quite cruel to wish this affliction on you. I'm lucky I have Nick to decide things for me.

i do and paul does too

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:12

You allow someone who can't organise meat to organise your life?

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 02:13

Excellent!! should be a great night.

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:13

Yeah having said that, I realise it's quite cruel to wish this affliction on you. I'm lucky I have Nick to decide things for me.

aha and he hates you for that :P

however, you do live quiiiiiiite far away from each other, so i can imagine that would get a bit tedious for him in the early hours

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:13

Yeah having said that, I realise it's quite cruel to wish this affliction on you. I'm lucky I have Nick to decide things for me.

    hmmmmmmmm

  • Alison24/02/2010 at 02:19

    hmmmmmmmm

That has nothing to do with you. It just makes you unfortunate enough to have to make your own decisions.

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 02:19

    do you have questions ready?

Not quite yet, but I am sure I will come up with plenty on the spot... as ever time I listen to your "Aside's" I find myself wanting to ask questions just as you do, or jut before you do... :-)

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:20

That has nothing to do with you. It just makes you unfortunate enough to have to make your own decisions.

i choose to make my own decisions :P ta

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:20

I think following Snoop Dogg on twitter may have been the greatest decision :P

  • Alison24/02/2010 at 02:21

I think you're as incapable as me tbh....

  • Lorenzo24/02/2010 at 02:22

I think following Snoop Dogg on twitter may have been the greatest decision :P

surely you mean: "the greatest decizzle"?

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:22

jon, while you're still awake. what are your plans for gp2 coverage this year? are you thinking of doing anything in terms of live commenting?

don't want to trend on anyone's toes, but if it's of interest to you, spc live comments could be at your disposal. kinda similar to the way giggle's radio is using them.

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:22

I think you're as incapable as me tbh....

aha ta. its not that i cant make a decision, i just dont want to, if i leave here then i have less time to do my own stuff and will miss the people alot, but if i change then im doing what ive wanted to do for aaaaaaages

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:23

jon, while you're still awake. what are your plans for gp2 coverage this year? are you thinking of doing anything in terms of live commenting?

hadnt thought anything of it to be honest, no treading of toes!

    thats cool ta

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:24

    thats cool ta

basically...thanks for the offer, i dont mind what happens, if you want to do anything with it then i wont feel trodden on, was my point

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:24

    thats cool ta

cool. am just seeing if there's a way they can be embedded in other sites too. may not be available for the start of the season, but it is feasible.

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:25

basically...thanks for the offer, i dont mind what happens, if you want to do anything with it then i wont feel trodden on, was my point

i don't know enough about gp2 to confidently write threads. but if the site isn't being used for anything else, it seems like a waste.

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:26

cool. am just seeing if there's a way they can be embedded in other sites too. may not be available for the start of the season, but it is feasible.

thats cool, the only problem i forsee is that a gp2 feed isnt always avaliable.

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:26

surely you mean: "the greatest decizzle"?

    oooh yes

  • me24/02/2010 at 02:26

thats cool, the only problem i forsee is that a gp2 feed isnt always avaliable.

is it not? ahh, didn't realise.

did we watch croftie via justin.tv or something?

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:27

did we watch croftie via justin.tv or something?

    yeah i think so

    yeah i think so

    ahh, rubbish.

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:28

    ahh, rubbish.

ask around tomorrow because im not 100%, but of the times i was around i remember a lack of feed, F2 do their own on their website but GP2 dont as of yet

  • Jon Waldock24/02/2010 at 02:30

    Although there is this page

    http://live.gp2series.com/

but i dont know what they're planing on doing with it

  • Alison24/02/2010 at 02:30

aha ta. its not that i cant make a decision, i just dont want to, if i leave here then i have less time to do my own stuff and will miss the people alot, but if i change then im doing what ive wanted to do for aaaaaaages

Hehe I'd hate for you to think I genuinely can't take care of myself. Consequences can be very stressful though eh...

I just need to convince some friends who arent so keen on F1 to join me

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 06:37

When i was at the V8's i think i worked out a way to get in free this year too :D

I only stayed for quali, it cost far too much, there was no way they were going to get people going out that far.

I was amazed at how i could walk though the paddock though, just troll up to a garage and be about a metre from a driver.

We also ended up in the paddock club without passes, i dont think bernie would have let that happen!

  • paul24/02/2010 at 06:53

Did you get knocked over by a tumbleweed? I don't understand why they take this series to places that aren't interested.

Having said that, the track configuration they used looked pretty good, with the "corckscrew" section.

So I've read 'the apology' (http://michaelgriffinonf1.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/an-apology/) and may comment later... but after reading through the comments here, may I just add that although it's really easy to unfollow someone when they make a mistake, how does that change anything?

It's better to point out the mistakes and offer your opinion on how to make things better... but if that doesn't work, you at least get to see the fireworks. I think it's important when it involves someone in the community to keep following that person so we are all up to speed on what is happening.

This case is a perfect example of using the power of social networking to encourage someone to make a positive change. If he means what he says here, then that is a good thing.

And Jackie, get blogging again - for every Mike Griffin there are 100 nice compliments and one from an F1 journo - that makes it all worth it :D

  • Nick in Dubai24/02/2010 at 07:46

    heheh

after all of yesterday's shenanigans, Andrew Maitland has emailed with "an exciting new way to collaborate with GMM, the world’s only

    Formula 1-dedicated news provision service."

sadly, it doesn't involve lining them up against a wall

the man has timing if nothing else... And from why I hear his timing is actually ripped off from f1.com

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 10:05

Well I am about to go up to town*

And to test the live broadcast field equipment (2 iPhones) in time for Friday I will do a bit of live broadcasting. Please join me on http://ustream.tv/channel/alexandronov if you're about. I will start at about quarter past the current hour.

    * for those non-London types that means into London, you would never refer to your local town as a town you would just say, "postoffice", "bookshop", or whatever. Town is always London Town.

  • Lukeh24/02/2010 at 10:06

    * for those non-London types that means into London, you would never refer to your local town as a town you would just say, "postoffice", "bookshop", or whatever. Town is always London Town.

Hehe. We always refer as the city centre as 'town' here, even though it's a city.

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 10:07

Hehe. We always refer as the city centre as 'town' here, even though it's a city.

I do too but a lot of Melburnians say 'I'm going into the city' so it must be a hangover from my NZ life :D

  • Maverick24/02/2010 at 10:07

    * for those non-London types that means into London, you would never refer to your local town as a town you would just say, "postoffice", "bookshop", or whatever. Town is always London Town.

I've got to say that I've never referred to my town as a "postoffice" or "bookshop" in my life. A dump, maybe, but nothing like that.

  • Nick in Dubai24/02/2010 at 10:07

Hehe. We always refer as the city centre as 'town' here, even though it's a city.

hehe, we have 4 different CBD's so going into town would confuse most people here!

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 10:07

    :)

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 10:08

hehe, we have 4 different CBD's so going into town would confuse most people here!

the confusing part here is that I live in a town. Which is walking distance from where I am. But if I said to Katherine I was popping into town she would assume I meant central london. Odd huh.

  • Christine24/02/2010 at 10:09

Hehe. We always refer as the city centre as 'town' here, even though it's a city.

When I was younger, I used to stay with a friend during the holidays sometimes. We would always "get the bus into town." It was a big adventure, and I was always confused when we got on the bus and said "return to town please" that he knew exactly what we meant.

Buses still confuse me, but that's another story :)

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 10:09

hehe, we have 4 different CBD's so going into town would confuse most people here!

I wonder if I could make "I'm off to the hoddle grid" catch on.

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 10:11

Buses still confuse me, but that's another story :)

Because you don't know when to get off. Somebody I know has nightmares about not being able to get off the bus so never goes on them. I am always hopping on and off them myself.

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 10:12

Because you don't know when to get off. Somebody I know has nightmares about not being able to get off the bus so never goes on them. I am always hopping on and off them myself.

I could handle buses at home but I am scared of Melbourne buses so I have never been on one. I don't understand where they go to.

  • paul24/02/2010 at 10:13

    I don't like public transport.

The childrens TV show Playbus taught me many untrue facts about buses. They are not as cheerful as Playbus.

Ah, i live in a comunity, which is a bit like a suberb/estate

However it is also in an area of dubai called 'New Dubai'

I could say i was going to the other end of town, but that would be a very big area including 3 of the 4 CBDs

  • paul24/02/2010 at 10:14

but where is the bus stop?

Easy. That's where the bus goes :D

  • Nick in Dubai24/02/2010 at 10:14

Buses still confuse me, but that's another story :)

I was in fear before i went to uni when i was told i had to use one every day... I adapted.

Still hate getting them now, apart from on that one route!

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 10:15

Don't we all think that Prost is a bit of a forgotten man when it comes to F1 these days. What he achieved in his career was remarkable, and without him Senna would never have reached the heights that he did.

"Quantas become title sponsor for Australian Grand Prix"

    http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2010/2/10463.html

any relation to Qantas who used to sponsor it?

    really, that's shockingly poor from Bernie's site - rule #1: don't get a sponsor's name wrong

Hehe. We always refer as the city centre as 'town' here, even though it's a city.

    You would think so...

Dubai was orignaly 2 settlements Bur Dubai & Deira, although their are bridges at either end, the CBDs are still separated by a creek and you have to get a water taxi between them unless you want to drive all the way around, they are quite separate.

Then we have downtown dubai where all the skyscrapers, financial markets is.

& finally about 20km up the highway we have New Dubai which is where i work, around a marina, lots of towers, and one of the busiest areas in the city along the beach

How is a dead sausage analogous to a living finger?

  • Christine24/02/2010 at 11:56

I dont understand how you are supposed to not eat it

    It doesn't look very appealing!

They dont seem to be able to build a car, but maybe they can operate one?

  • Lukeh24/02/2010 at 12:04

But they are sausages you have to eat them!

I think if I got a sausage out of the fridge and started using it as a stylus, I wouldn't be thinking 'Ooh, this sausage looks yummy' but instead be wondering why, you know, I'm using a sausage.

    As a stylus.

ustream will always add a delay to broadcasts, even those via desktop/broadband, so that's pretty damn good.

I did. I've checked it out twice and didn't like it either time. I just don't get the way it works.

You see how your blog looks and edit it whilst you're looking at it, which I can see would be useful, but I don't find it usable.

Will Ferrell. Yeah. That's before he was 'famous' though, right?

    had no idea.

  • Christine24/02/2010 at 13:44

What can you listen to when you are asleep? Aren't you worried you might not hear something?

I don't listen when I'm asleep, but I do listen in bed and the earbuds aren't comfortable.

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 13:45

we're using anything but drop.io nowadays. twitpic, flickr, youtube etc. that's why they all lightbox as drop.io used too.

I can't listen to a podcast while I try and sleep because I don't take anything in...

  • Alison24/02/2010 at 13:46

Why do my work taunt me with my payslip a week before i get paid. I jus end up feeling rich and spending it before i even have it...

there are a few free mp3s on the site

Newport waves sounded interesting until I found out it was Newport, Rhode Island

  • me24/02/2010 at 13:47

I need some of these. If only because they have a sheep as a logo.

not that expensive i guess. will you buy one?

Eyes closed? Light on or off?

I am talking about my evening train home - I often need to drift off for 10 minutes, the podcast helps but then I feel that I miss out...

  • me24/02/2010 at 13:48

Ah I wonder if I can e-mail to one of those...

The main annoyance when out and about is that I want to be able to do other things on the iPhone while the e-mail is sending with video especially it can take a while to send and in any of the uploader tools because of the lack of multitasking it's kind of annoying.

  • Christine24/02/2010 at 13:49

Eyes closed? Light on or off?

    Sometimes, either, both. It depends.

I do a million things at once all day, and then can't just stop and sleep unless I am dead on my feet.

Listening to podcasts means I can concentrate on one thing, and that helps me get to sleep mode.

  • RubberGoat24/02/2010 at 13:51

Yeah. Well I use mine very lightly as a backup/transfer drive. Works OK I guess. In a couple of months I won't really need it when I stop commuting so far though...

I completely understand. I think I have the same problem, which is why I nap on the train. I'm nice and relaxed and not able to do much. In the evenings there's always something else to do, so I stay up too late and then when I do try and sleep, I am restless...

And the answer is that flickr does accept submissions of pictures and video via a secret e-mail address :)

    Sold :)

the advantages to flickr/twitpic/yotube over drop.io, is that it reduces our admin overhead to zero. you can upload, remove, and link as you see fit.

we don't have to mange spam, we don't have to worry about copyright issues, it's all down to the commenter. plus it doesn't cost us anything.

the only remaining issue is what to do with content already in the drop.

  • Amy24/02/2010 at 13:56

    vedder?

Absolutely I was only clinging on to drop.io because of the e-mail background feature and that was annoying in itself.

Here's a suggestion for something that might be cool there are quite a lot of flickr users I believe there is a way to bring in images etc with a tag. Maybe it's worth doing that so that when people are out and about they could send their stuff with the tags and they could be displayed. Of course that might get into the whole same issue again re admin...

  • Alex Andronov24/02/2010 at 13:59

Why not a separate sidepodcastolddrop flickr? then you could tag all that stuff to the tag I was just talking about?

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/sidepodcast/

I just tagged my video sidepodcast so you could see it mixed in there. But you could instead suggest the tag be sidepodflickr or something. And anyone who wants to display their stuff on the aggregated page tags their pictures with the sidepodflickr tag. That way you don't bring in all my random stuff just the stuff that I'm targeting at you?

  • me24/02/2010 at 14:07

    From Maurice Hamilton:

Mosley puzzled - along with the rest of us - over purpose of Ferrari's weird diatribe against new teams.

James Allen was there too so I'd expect soemthing from him this evening

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 15:46

heh... It felt embarrassing to tell the story but actually looking back it's not that bad.

it's pretty good, actually. you were vindicated, after all. :)

    hello all.

  • me24/02/2010 at 15:46

Mosley puzzled - along with the rest of us - over purpose of Ferrari's weird diatribe against new teams.

what's to be puzzled about. new teams are bringing much embarrassment to f1.

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 15:47

Mosley puzzled - along with the rest of us - over purpose of Ferrari's weird diatribe against new teams.

LDM did something special, then - he has confused Max Mosley - or at least made him publicly admit to being such. That doesn't happen often.

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 15:48

what's to be puzzled about. new teams are bringing much embarrassment to f1.

true, but why would ferrari of all people put out such a statement? at first glance, anyway, they have nothing to gain from doing so.

  • me24/02/2010 at 15:49

true, but why would ferrari of all people put out such a statement? at first glance, anyway, they have nothing to gain from doing so.

    a) because mclaren can't, they're under suspended sentence.

    b) ditto for renault

    c) williams may as well be a small team given the engine partner

    d) who else is there?

  • Jim Newman24/02/2010 at 15:50

what's to be puzzled about. new teams are bringing much embarrassment to f1.

Especially the poor, beleaguered by silence and lies USF1. It's too bad too, as I was hoping that a team from my own country would spark some more interest in Grand Prix racing over here.

but even if there were no limitations/restrictions, i don't see any of the above teams doing what ferrari did.

Might a reverse attraction work here? USF1 ended up in the NYT, might make people curious what they got themselves into.

  • me24/02/2010 at 15:51

Also seems pretty consistant with what LDM has been saying forever.

  • me24/02/2010 at 15:53

that's true. since schumy/todt left, the gap between ferrari and max grew ever wider.

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 15:53

Also seems pretty consistent with what LDM has been saying forever.

yes, that is true, but even then, this is pretty extreme language for what is essentially a peacetime F1. especially so early in the year too.

  • Jim Newman24/02/2010 at 15:53

Has much attention been given to the embarrassment of USF1 over in the states?

The only thing we get here is propaganda from United States affiliates. Speed TV (go figure since Ken is in leagues with them) hasn't made mention of the serious issues surrounding the team. The only real news we get about USF1 comes from Europe.

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 15:53

that's true. since schumy/todt left, the gap between ferrari and max grew ever wider.

i'll be curious to see how JT and LDM get along now... LDM was careful to avoid criticizing the current FIA administration, specifically targeting the former FIA president.

To be fair, though, Adam Cooper's initial article got published on the SPEED website pretty quickly. They got whiff of the news before many of the other F1 websites did.

They might have separate divisions. I know that (for example) ESPN's TV program and website divisions have little to do with each other. Totally different management. Speed might be the same way.

true, but why would ferrari of all people put out such a statement? at first glance, anyway, they have nothing to gain from doing so.

Ferrari are acting in self interest. They want manufacturers in as most of them were rubbish. Teams that spent a fortune marketing the sport which benefitted Ferrari but were no threat. Ferrari had there most successful spell in their history when all the rival teams were tied up with manufacturers. The previous 20 years when their rivals were privateers Ferrari won nothing. Don't assume when they have a go at privateers they are only having a go at the new teams.

what's to be puzzled about. new teams are bringing much embarrassment to f1.

Personally I read that whole thing as a dig at Bernie. They are basically saying, "why are you bothering propping up this dross?"

It's funny, I think the other day I said that I thought Bernie was waiting for the teams to come to him so he would be in a position of power: "However, the beneficiaries of this generosity might find the knight in question expects them to fulfil the role of loyal vassal."

  • Journeyer24/02/2010 at 16:06

Saying all that won't make manufacturers come back, though. This comes across as a whine... at best.

Nope. I wanna go to as many circuits as possible before I repeat one. So it's China this year and maybe Australia next year.

When I went in 2008, I sat at the Marina section (which no longer exists). If you wanna go this year, go for Stamford (where Amy is) or Connaught.

I don't know what's up with me. It's not a cold/flu i've got. I'm just very run down. I keep getting migraines, feeling faint, being generally drowsy...

I had something like that years ago. Just felt awful. Spent 6 weeks going to the doctor getting results from one lot of blood tests and giving them another gallon to analyse for something else. After 6 weeks the only thing they had found out was that my white blood cell count was high. The last time I went to see him he said he had no idea what I had but he had one more blood test to run. He told me not to worry if it came back positive as his dog had just had that disease and it was fine now. By that stage I was feeling better so decided the best thing I could do was stay away from doctors.

i can't really. not the things that matter... like still life, or observational drawing. if it's from a picture it's much easier. :)

I love that their first comment on this insane design is that it lacks a front spoiler. Really? Surely the fact it looks more like the space shuttle than a racing car is slightly more noticeable than the lack of a wing

Yeah, various pics around the place. I won't tell you the alternative moniker that was floating around tweets/blogs the other day.

I'm not sure. I admit, it *is* fugly, but slap some sponser stickers on it, and a "go-faster" stripe down the center-line, and it might grow on me.

One thing that has come out is this isn't a definitive chassis, just the concept. DW aren't going to build it, they see themselves in the same role as F1's OWG (but more so).

Christine, have just sent you an e-mail, hope it's ok

  • Bassano24/02/2010 at 19:23

Mr C, why are you tweeting Holly Willoughby?

If it's any consolation, she's as thick as 3 short diffusers

  • Bassano24/02/2010 at 19:23

    Hi Janna

  • Steven Roy24/02/2010 at 19:23

One problem with the delta wing racer that the designer has not considered is racing drivers. They look for a gap they can put the nose of their car in and go for it. If the nose of the car is half the width of the back there are going to be lots of accidents and lots of pointed fingers.

It's like why cats have whiskers - if the whiskers can't fit through the gap then neither can the body...

you're suggesting they should add carbon whiskers?

  • Steven Roy24/02/2010 at 19:26

Mr C, why are you tweeting Holly Willoughby?

Just checked his twitter. Seems to be Holly Willis not Holly Willoughby. Surprised he didn't know that himself though and use it in his defence

  • Bassano24/02/2010 at 19:26

I was thinking of writing a follow-up to There's An App For That from a 'Can't See The Race Live' perspective

    Probably around April time

Unless your cat is like mine. My cat has a bunch of junk in the trunk, much wider than the wiskers.

Good plan. Carbon fibre whiskers at 240mph. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Reminding me of a mid-70's era Cadillac, with curb feelers, aka kerb feelers.

  • Jim Newman24/02/2010 at 19:33

What's the idea, boundary layer thing?

lol, no. I had to take the bumper off while putting on the FMIC. The bolts holding it on had many years of hard German salt from the roads on them and all broke. Zipties were the only thing holding it to the fenders and two bolts up top held it in place in the middle.

  • Bassano24/02/2010 at 19:33

They work, as I've been told, by making a metal-scrapey sound when you're parking and brush the curb.

Msake the sound you know you're close enough. For those cars that were land-yachts, and you couldn't see what was around you.

I don't like the idea of living in a place where I could be arrested for not being married in certain situations. I'm sure it doesn't happen often, but the fact that it could scares me.

They just arrest the stupid people. If you have even the smallest amount of common sense you will be fine.

Hehehe this makes me laugh so much. You should take your own advice!

  • jpancoast24/02/2010 at 21:07

I gotta feeling we will be hearing snippets from this song for a long time to come on ads and special promos for sporting events etc. :-)

Actually that song isn't that bad, I was surprised to learn it was theirs. Most of their stuff is dirge, IMHO of course.

  • RubberGoat24/02/2010 at 21:58

Can't believe Black Eyed Peas have the most popular song ever

What an awesome song though! It always puts me in a good mood.

Lewis Hamilton and Thierry Henry go head-to-head at the launch of the new Reebok ZigTech training shoe, on February 24 2010 in Barcelona, Spain. The two superstars were competing over a specially built course in Barcelona as they put the new technology through its paces.

Does this mean lewis and thierry will replace Tilke if it's a popular course? They both need to overtake each other lots to help the cause

    really don't know. {Comment #39}

Maybe GMM thinks all students are like Michael Dell* and run computer companies in their student accommodation...

    * - Michael Dell started the eponymous computer company during his first year at university. His parents told him that if he didn't make enough to live on in a year, he'd have to drop the company and concentrate on his studies. He made $112,000 in his first semester and more in the second (despite his room-mates making him get proper premises because they were fed up of the accommodation being full of computer bits). He'd probably have been able to afford GMM, had he seen any point in purchasing such a feed...

erm.. It was 2008 I think. I was at the top of the hill just after lunch and he and some other F1 driver ran straight after lunch instead of a few hours later because Lewis had to go somewhere. When they announced that he would run there was almost no-one there so I was leaning on the fence but by the time he arrived and got out to sign autographs I was trampled by aggressive ten year olds. But he was literally a fence width away from me.

I've done some modules of philosophy at university (and read Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra) and can tell you that the commenter is using sesquipedalian loquaciousness to obscure a completely incoherent argument consisting of sophistry.

I will summarise the argument's intent in one sentence: claiming that Lotus should not be associated with Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The commenter would have been better served using plain English (because none of the philosophical concepts the commenter used actually advanced the argument any).

i would also accept the $60 cost of the remote in cash. I like cash.

NASCAR finally sorted out a UK TV deal if anyone is interested... but it is on a channel I've never heard of..

@NASCAR: Exciting news for our UK fans -- Coverage of the 2010 NSCS season launches on Open Access 3 (SKY GUIDE 190) starting with LVMS #NASCAR

ooooo that reminds me of a conversation i had with mum the other day. I'd just got home and was reading through the comments while listening to f1 minute, and mum asked what f1 minute was. When i explained to her she at first thought it was a podcast recapping over gossip in the comments. I had to explain that would be rather time consuming :)

The trouble with that would be producing the podcast fast enough for it to still be relevant

or maybe a rating system that flagged up the most important comments of the day? i've no idea if that's even doable... or needed. :)

i can imagine it would get rather tiring too. When i explained to mum that it was for f1 news she thought it was awesome :)
