Today is Tuesday, and I can't quite believe that it's almost the end of February already. That's both scary, and also very cool. The season will soon be here and I can no longer moan about the countdowns. It's close enough that counting down to the season is acceptable. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- This week's F1 Debrief is all up and ready for you to listen to. We discuss plenty of news from the past week and gather a lot of lovely feedback as well. If you're keen on the outtakes, I posted a couple on the daily post yesterday, and am pointing them out here as well: Mr C can't speak and Christine can't speak.
- I also updated Christine's Rankings yesterday, in which Heikki Kovalainen got the most points. Unfortunately for him, they weren't all in the right direction. There are also notes on the Virgin Racing drivers, plus Webber gets his first (minus) points as well.
- It looks as though Stefan GP have postponed and/or cancelled the test of their new car in Portimao. Apparently the downfall is the lack of tyres, which is down to Bridgestone. The tyre supplier aren't allowed to give them F1 tyres, and couldn't get GP2 replacements in time, so for now, the Stefan test is off.
That's all for now. Don't forget to vote on the latest part of Life in the Fast Lane. We're getting towards the end of the story now, so each vote is more and more important! I will see you in the comments.
i didn't manage to get this done in time to make the daily, but html5 video tags have also been added to the site. this means embedded videos should be viewable on the iphone/android directly from the page.
http://sidepodcast.com/video/
still testing, yell if you spot anything odd. live show replays are currently not included as the length of them seems to give the iphone a headache.
Blug alert: I did a cartoon on the new teams whose presence on the grid is uncertain.
good evening....
hello guille, what's new?
well, I leave the 'real' world for the darkness of the lab for a week and one team folds out, another almost, and the certain debut of an Argentinian in the F1 is not so certain any more. I should stop going to the lab...
Other than that, recovering from a mountain trekking on Saturday. Much better than what I thought I would be by now :P
he has money, he'll be fine.
if i were renault, i'd be looking to ditch petrov asap.
hi
It is changing quite quickly isn't it..
Why?
you think Dad's loan will be worthless in a few months? ;-)
A couple of things before I head to bed.
First, Joe on Stefan... http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/the-belgrade-amateur-dramatic-society/
it hasn't materialised yet, has it?
just reading that. class :)
Oh, and my desktop computer's hard drive seems at the edge of dying... Luckily the warranty is still on.
our vista machine died today. i tried to shed a tear.
Secondly, you'll remember IndyCar Race Control (their live online tv/timing feed). They've just released a new video, and they've given it an overhaul. It looks fantastic!
http://ow.ly/16DDYX
and you couldn't?
;)
strewth!
mine has W7 RC installed, but I don't boot on it since December I think. I'll try to re-install a clean Ubuntu and if it still has problems it will go back to the shop.
If I only had the bandwidth to use it! :-(
That is a problem I found with the old version. I hope the new one is better. Another problem is the lack of a main feed - you've got the 'leader cam' and lots of onboards (and they've made the viewscreen bigger this year I think) but not the tv feed. Still very impressive, especially the timing stuff they've added.
Too much info and too many options. Perfect
:)
better to be bombarded with info than be left asking 'why?' :)
I should be able to use the timing part, while watching the TV feed from the cable.
one more thing has just come to my attention via a tweet from F1B, and Ferrari's PR person is complaining again:
http://www.ferrari.com/English/News/Pages/100222_GR_Per_chi_suona_la_campana.aspx
In some ways they make some valid points, but it probably isn't becoming of a title-fighting team to be making such comments.. If McLaren or any other team tried it there would be trouble, I'm sure.
woah!
I was just reading that! Is that a smile in Luca's face...?
They seemed quite keen on him when he gave them a veto on other team's technology and kept giving them championships. Ferrari tryi
g to claim the moral highground is ridiculous.
For some reason there are somethings I type that paste the quote again. I have had that a few times now.
The first the ski jumpers see when they take off is a cemetry. That is a bit unfair
very odd.
Motivation :-)
They haven't quite grasped that the manufacturers which left couldn't afford to stay in F1...
Anyway I'd love to carry on but I've got to get to bed, so I'll see if I can drop in during the day..
Must keep an eye on it. I think it is only happening on one computer.
If they jump out of the arena they land in a cemetry?
Probably they know, but they'll not let pass the opportunity to hit at Max (even if it's worthless/against their previous history)
good night Pat
I WANT.
I can't describe the insane, just beauty that is. I WANT
I love Ferrari, thats amazing
night pat
Really great USF1 chat on MWM this week if anyones interested
That would be awesome in F1.
Too bad we have Bernie instead.
Hi all- if usf1 don't test before the season commences (17 days?) and in season testing is banned, are they totally stuffed for having a car during 2010? I know it looks unlikely right now anyway but I'm curious what people are thinking on this hypothetical.
Totally and completely... we're talking Mastercard-Lola level of terribleness. In the words of the great Bender Bending Rodríguez... We're boned.
Totally and completely... we're talking Mastercard-Lola level of terribleness. In the words of the great Bender Bending Rodríguez... We're boned
@ dan Brunell
love it!! Stupid meat bags
Hehe. ignoring the fact that most people found it hard to believe usf1 and others would get to the grid in Bahrain, I wonder if Bernie and the boys are consideing my scenario if this "miss a few races" situations takes hold.

Odeon are going to boycott showing Alice In Wonderland because Disney is trying to reduce the amount of time cinemas get to exclusively have the movie down from 17 to 12 weeks. Disney point out that often the movies stop showing after 12 weeks and then there is no legitimate way to watch the movie and in that interim is where a lot of piracy happens. But Odeon want to protect their outmoded business model: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8528820.stm
Our cinemas usually stop showing a movie after 6-8 weeks, never mind 12. What's Odeon on?
Morning all.
Absolutely.
Same. Odeon's thinking is that people think, "oh I won't be able to see this at home for ages I better see it now in the few weeks it's on".
if you're saying morning, I better get to bed. Apparently there is an f1 season starting soon. Reminds me, must be a tv...
so apparently Lewis and THAT woman are back on. So we are not to be free of her this year.
Oooh maybe I'll get my money back?
ooh yes!
the holidays are officially over, firts working day in the tiger year for me ... going through all the mails, found this Valentine chorus in one of them :-)
http://www.pumahardchorus.com/
really? Dang. Link?
It was good. I have mentioned a couple of points already, as it was very interesting some of the points that were raised eg sponsorship...
Morning.
morning
Sounds silly to me. If you aren't going to see a movie after 6 weeks at the theatre (when it's often shunted to the silly times anyway), just wait for the DVD...
Dang Diggity Dawg indeed :(
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/confidential/lewis-hamilton-and-nicole-scherzinger-romance-back-on-track/story-e6frf96x-1225833548731
We may not be free of her for the rest of his F1 career, from the looks of it.
I dont think its outdated at all, If you know you can buy a copy of a film immediately you would probably stop going to the cinema for most films.
The cinemas would go bust and there would be no cinemas to watch films that you want to get the big screen experience.
The people who would ultimatly lose are the people who cant afford expensive home entertainment systems, as they would loose the chance for a cinematic experience compeltey
But who waits 17 weeks (4 months) to see a film they want to see? That's a long time to wait!
Cinemas are already going bust due to the exorbitant prices and the fact that most people just prefer to save their money and stay at home. It's very expensive to take the family out and buy them popcorn vs. staying at home...
If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket?
The point isn't immediately anyway. the point is that there is dead time between the film going off at the cinema and being available to buy. For example A serious man was at the Cinema at the end of last year. But is now not in the Cinemas anywhere and not yet out on DVD. How does that help anyone?
Going by the prices here: (currency isnt important)
Big screen TV 1,500
Hometheatre system 850
Total 2,350 + 80 for each DVD purchased (new releases)
Cost of Cinema: Adult 40 Child 25 (new release)
Family of four pays 130 to see the film.
Its much cheaper!
130 > 80 per DVD?
And these people don't watch tv either?
I see what you mean, but i think the scarceity helps the cinema, if you know its not going to be coming out for a while you might be tempted to go again.
I am keen to see Avatar again (if i get a spare evening) because i know its going to be a long time before i will be able to buy and view it on a 3D tv.
Avatar is a bit of an exception and I think points to the new direction cinema will take. Interestingly though Alice in Wonderland (the movie the boycott is about) is also in 3D
Assuming you go to the cinema once a month on average, you save 50 per film, to pay off the 2350, thats 47 months, or nearly 4 years!
I did think of that, but lets asume they have a regular tv
I think the main concern over this is not if it is 12 weeks or 17, but how it slides in the future. 12 weeks would probably be fine, but once it starts sliding it might be tricky to stop,
Say a regular tv is 1,000 instead of 1,500. They already have to buy a regular tv so I say the difference between the regular tv and the home cinema is (1500 + 850) - 1000 = 1,350. The difference between the DVD and the Cinema ticket is 50. So 1,350 / 50 = 27. If you watch 27 movies in the lifetime of your tv it is the same price. More than that in the lifetime of your tv and you are saving money with a home cinema.
here in Hong Kong the piracy issues shortened the time between cinemas and DVD releases significantly. I went to watch one pretty good local movie to cinema barely 3 weeks ago (and it was still near the top of the box office reeipts at that time). It has been out on DVD for 2 weeks now ...
It may be good to drive out the pirates but I tell you I felt a bit cheated after forking out 200 (currency does not matter :-) ) for tickets when I realized I could have spent 15 and rent it a week later ...
How often do they plan on replacing this expensive home cinema. If it's longer than 4 years then it's still worth it even with that maths.
I totally agree. I can see why Odeon want to stop it. But I'm telling you they are going out of business either way. It won't be long before the movies will be released in all formats on the same day world wide.
And I like the cinema :) I just can see it going that way. Fewer multiplexes showing anything and everything and more 1 or 2 screen places showing special exhibition films or big event movies.
Nick, The Home Theatre would probably be paid off on an HP or Finance deal of some sort. If they paid it off at £20 a week (for example over two years or something) and rented or bought a DVD each week it would be cheaper.
And there are much cheaper systems out there than that - My 32" TV only cost £400 and my Home Theatre system was about the same!
Exactly - a TV last between 2,00 hours (projector) to about 10,000 hours (LCD).
So if we are going to misuse numbers like Nick has, assuming a family of low income will spend £2350 on a Home Theatre and they buy an LCD, that's 5,000 2 hour movies, or 50p a movie ;)
good morning / afternoon / whatever
I agree with this. I love the movies, but I only go for the 'big' films now - the rest I prefer to watch at home because I get annoyed when I go to the theatre...
:(
You can accuse me of misusing numbers all you like.
As i said, i wasnt using £, the currency wasnt important.
Oh weren't you - my apologies, didn't see that!
It's still cheaper to watch a DVD for a household of more than two though...
that's been happening for a long time though
I don't think they'll all go out of business though, just less multiplex's are sustainable - their is always the "night out" factor to keep plenty going
but they need a rethink on strategy - who wants to sit on some grotty uncomfortable seat when the alternative is a comfortable sofa?
There is this one Japanese skin care brand (totally useless ovepriced products IMHO) that books 90% of ad time before the movies here, no matter what cinema. I get to hear their line "Less is more" for 20 times before the movie begins. And they only have 2 clips they do not beven other to alternate :-)
That's the least of my issues.
You have to find a parking space, go to the machine to buy your ticket, queue up for your glasses, queue up for the candy, queue up to take your seat, move 100 times so that other people can get to their seats, put up with 30 minutes of ads and trailers, get annoyed at all the people talking, kicking your seat and hitting your head when they go to the loo, queue up to leave the theatre, sit in a traffic jam to leave the parking complex...
we have cinema here, actually it is a normal multiplex, but they have one room/theater called Director's Club. Only for 20 people = 10 couples. 10 double seater comfy plush sofas, small otomans (so one can put the feet up), small coffee table. coffee/tea/drinks/hot dog included. costs double price of regular ticket though
I was going to say something like that - well worth it for long movies...
The US often milks the couples on the back row thing by having rather more private double seats at the back
well I guess it is a bit different over here. all the major cinemas are on top of the subway stations (cars are not en-vogue here unless it is Rolls or Bentley or Ferrari or Porsche :-) ), tickets are bought in advance over internet. the only problem are those people coming late and well, that annoying "Less is more" ...
I buy my tickets on the net as I refuse to go unless I get a good seat. I still have to print them at the cinema though...
I guess we need to print them at the cinema too, but that is the task I usually leave to the other half :-)
Gavin, who's this Michael Griffin idiot?
seems like Soucek gets to test drive the Virgin
Is this referring to the twitter conversation last night? To be honest I am not entirely sure. He runs some F1 blog and I think I found him randomly as he's an F1 fan. He's calling you out for some article about safety which he accuses you of plagiarising, yet he has no copy of it, the site it ran on does not exist and he couldn't recall the name of the site (he thinks it was called uberF1).
What is interesting is that he complained a few weeks ago that he was booted out of another F1 site for being falsely accused of plagiarising an article.
Frankly I'm not sure what is going on and I tried to tread lightly so as not to cause an argument...
Is he deranged?
He uses GMM - I think it's a damned cheek to accuse other people of copying when you rely on GMM for your site's news output
Indeed I don't think you did at all. And of course my maths may prove that it is cheaper to buy your own home cinema but we always have to remember that consumers are not rational...
I mean just look at that Toyota you want to buy ;)
To be honest I may have come off a bit strong saying that - but you were quoting high numbers to support your case. Which you are perfectly entitled to do, of course ;)
I am really happy many of you are mentioning this here as I just got myself new one :-)
I am not sure about him to be honest - he called you out but never @replied you...
Good stuff!
Its a grower, i hated it too at first, but now it looks.... manly :P
I was using the local currency here. Approx 6AED=1GBP
I have been shopping around lately so i knew the relative prices a little better over here ;)
It's rather retro in an American car company kind of way...
so 2450/6 = £408.33, not taking into account taxes etc. but that is a fair assumption then ;)
well you would at least think he would be sure about the name of his site? me thinks he is crazy
his articles are only a rehashing of the allianz safety dictionary anyway
it has wooden side panels? :-D
Its supposed to be based on this http://www.4x4offroads.com/image-files/1983-toyota-fj40-03.jpg
But its far more awesome :P
:D
I mean, it's a blobby larger version of the original...
Well I can't see the similarity - and I know which site I prefer ;)
I think the best thing to do here is for all of us to call him out over twitter and tell him he's wrong in his assumptions and should not be calling people names like that if he is supposedly running a real F1 site...
the original wasn't that pretty itself
It wasn't meant to be, in fairness. Proper 4WD though!
Me too. Zoe keeps wanting to 'go out' which makes me a little cranky but then I have a good time when we go. Avatar 3D was amazing! Law abiding Citizen was good too.
Blu-Ray is amazing too. $2500 AUD for 50 inch Full HD plasma and $600 AUD for PS3 with PlayTV which gives me games (meh), Blu-Ray and PVR. Blu-Ray movies are about $30, most DVDs are $15 - $20
Do I need to count the entertainment unit I had to buy to put it on to keep Zoe happy?
Yes
My house looks like a proper grown up house now :-)
Thanks Zoe!
Grown up as is "boys" house? ;-)
Sounds good though
You know for the full experience you need a projector and screen dont you?
I for got to mention that i got 'The Sabateur' which is based on joes book..
actively looking for similarities ;)
My Uncle's Neighbour built his house and built a dedicated Home Theatre room.
Trouble was, that and the Outdoor Sound System completely blew his budget and he had to sell his house at a loss. He had little furniture and no lawn for almost a year after it was built...
Really? I got the book today!
I'll be interested to know what you find - I was curious, but games are too expensive for me for what little I play them now.
With the Winter Olympics I barely have time for one race a week on iRacing...
Hi again.
or.... you could wait 2 weeks for the crowds to disappear, leaving yourself more elbow room and the pick of the best seats (in line with screen and dead centre for the surround effect). and we only have 15 mins of ads/previews.. and we go at night when there's no traffic..
As in: we can have couples around without having to apologise for the state of the house. My study on the other hand... :P
ooh, I saw that last night, I had to restrain myself..
and someone talking behind you, someone else rustling a packet of crisps and finally, just as the film starts, a couple to squeeze in front of you stepping on your feet in the process
Are you allowed to have a beer without using a coaster? :P
Regarding the cinema/dvd conversation earlier, it seems that it may stop being an issue for me as hollywood is stopping work on making movies which appeal to men and pumping out more chick flicks due to gaming & the web.
http://kotaku.com/5477708/xbox-effect-cited-in-chick-flicks-rise
It's very loosely based on Joe's book. There are very few references. Plus I thought it was a bit of a waste of time... the game's not so good...
Anyways, morning all. Ferrari are at it again I see ;)
watching twitter - it looks like the world at large has just discovered that Ferrari rant :-)
you have to love Ferrari news though
there goes the FOTA honeymoon :-)
and Mr Stefanovic received clear message that there is no chance Ferrari would approve their entry. so unless Stefan GP sneaks in under the US Flag he can slowly begin turning the volume down on his PR machine ...
deciding to paint the stefan all red probably didn't help matters!
the small teams won't allow stefan and nor will ferrari, and I don't think they're that popular with the FIA either
they better hope that they can buy USF1 and then find a sponsor beginning with U if FOTA won't let them change the team name
I think its good in a way, i didnt see the sense of bringing in so many new teams at once.
it would have been far more sensible to add 3 teams 1 a year for 3 years than suddenly getting 3 to fight for sponsors/investors.
At least this way they can do a proper review of applicants again and hopefully we will get a serious operation
It was difficult not to react to his comments: http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9491817140 and http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9491981021 and http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9492160464 ...
Very inflammatory and got me a bit annoyed!
looks like i've missed some fun!
I was looking back through his tweets, I think I annoyed him last week by suggesting that GMM might not be up to scratch
He is leeching stuff in his tweets - he suddenly decided Brian Blessed should fill in for Ant at 5Live - now I wonder where he got that from?
:)
at least publish the link to what has supposed to have been copied - strange that he can't though
he'll be wearing tin foil on his head next to stop me stealing his thoughts
To be fair, it should be a national campaign anyway.
have unfollowed and blocked the silly boy.
was he one of the buffoons who went to the mclaren launch and tweeted nothing?
Yes indeed!
now he's "suggested" it, I've gone off the idea. sorry
Damn you nasty Mike....
http://twitter.com/RubberGoat/status/9492087697 and http://twitter.com/RubberGoat/status/9492204619 say enough for me...
Hmm: http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/8804697640
he did strike me as being a bit weird, when i first saw him tweeting it seemed as if he was trying to pass himself off as an out of work journalist, although is lack of knowledge and experience was soon apparent. O D D
much appreciated
how stupid can one person be? how can you lash out at gmm, and then spend all afternoon copying and pasting their content??
Maybe their 'Lawyer' complained he wasn't paying and upset him that day?
He's like 2 sheets to the wind, this guy. I won't block him because I want to see what he says re: the plagiarism...
I know, I've had to start following
do not want to interrupt your debate, but before I leave the room for few hours I would like to (plug alert) let you know that the 4th edition of the Prediction Game over at Wolf's has started. Looks like it may be the best one so far so feel free to join in - link
:D
Sometimes twitter is just like a soap opera!
duly tweeted and facebooked.
appreciated :-)
insert duff duffs as necessary
is this why so many F1 people love it? :-)
what is this 'beer' that you speak of? :P
What's a coaster? Something at the funfair? :D
Morning all!
#bassanofail
Appropriate that a comment about a guy who is known for paying his bills late is a day late :P
ah - that explains why the reply button wasn't working
How odd, mobile doohickey didn't default to today's Daily :(
Try again:
Slightly F1 related - Vijay Mallya and I are to become colleagues!
Kingfisher Airlines have applied to join the OneWorld Alliance
Hey Bass!
Hi Bass, just got to Tuesday?
Has Twitter released the Fail Whale to play out today or is it just me having IT issues?
Yeah, have been at work since Friday so I guess it's taking it's toll ;)
Odeon are going to boycott showing Alice In Wonderland because Disney is trying to reduce the amount of time cinemas get to exclusively have the movie down from 17 to 12 weeks. Disney point out that often the movies stop showing after 12 weeks and then there is no legitimate way to watch the movie and in that interim is where a lot of piracy happens. But Odeon want to protect their outmoded business model: {Comment #49}
To be fair, there are some movies where Odeon has used the whole 17-week window; notably the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Mamma Mia! I think its implied argument is that if Disney wants its films to be seen in the interim, it should make its movies good enough to be seen at the cinema that many weeks after. It doesn't help that a film producer broke the rule a few years back for Night at the Museum to catch the Easter market, so it was already a sore subject for Odeon.
Besides, its business model is not outmoded. Rather, it is modelled on movie-going as a special experience rather than as something that casually fits between surfing the internet and watching a soap. Both should be compatible with one another.
Williams are getting ready: As the test team heads to Spain, the factory is preparing for Bahrain. We'll take a minimum 3 of everything, & 5 front wings (just in case!)
http://twitter.com/ClaireVWilliams/statuses/9522388768
I love those. Went to one in Toronto once.
Much as I delight in the big screen experience and sound of the cinema, the behaviour of other patrons often causes me to chafe. Mrs C and I went to see the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and the whole thing was nearly derailed by the presence of an unruly teenage girl who spent the entire performance burbing, cackling and talking to her mate, undisciplined by the adult who was present.
We have a 40in flat screen at home and often run the sound through the hi-fi, but the only fly in this home cinema ointment is that the sound is rather too good – gunfights, etc, utterly terrify the cats...
Nail duly bashed upon the bonce, Mr C...
Play 'Under The Influence' through your Subwoofer and watch the cats run!
Thing is, they get used to it a bit as they get older and lazier. On my DVD player, the tray always takes 5 seconds after you push the eject button to release, but it must have been making noises because my cat was there in a flash staring it down!
"USF1 Journal" are also experimenting with an online magazine format: http://www.usf1formula1.com/2010/02/a-turn-page-article-experiment-please-participate-by-flood1.html
I was pleasantly surprised to see my fuel consumption graph in there too - was going to link to it anyway! ;)
If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket? {Comment #66}
Extremely easily. Movie tickets for adults where I live are between £5-£7, except on Tuesdays where it's £4.80 for everyone. At that point, three of us going out is almost as cheap as getting the DVD... ...plus we don't have to fork out £200-£300 on a good TV screen, the same again on quality speakers or worry if someone will interrupt us (you might be able to pause movies, but keeping the appropriate atmosphere under those circumstances is pretty trying, especially if the interruption has nothing to do with the movie's content). The prices might be reasonable for a middle-class family expecting to get lots of use out of the system, but for working-class families accustomed to second-hand well-under-£100 TVs it is an impossible expense.
Unless you see lots of movies in a year, or use your home entertainment system for purposes other than watching movies (admittedly quite common for people who also use the same system to access cable, satellite and/or computer-based entertainment), it's considerably more economical to go to the cinema than attempt to replicate the experience or anything approaching that at home. Granted, there are some genres of film (such as chick-flicks) where the very best sound and graphics are irrelevant because they're 95% plot- and/or character-driven, but the films best suited to the cinematic experience (generally the big-budget ones - which are also frequently the ones most pirated) really have to be seen at the cinema to be fully appreciated.
As an aside, me and my family frequently take food into the cinema. According to the rules of the particular chain in our town, this is fine so long as we don't disturb anyone and the food from outside isn't eaten in the food court itself (where food is openly prepared and would therefore generate a hygiene issue). Obviously other chains are considerably stricter on the point and we behave accordingly on the (very rare) occasions we travel further afield.
oooh thats annoyed me.
The point isn't immediately anyway. the point is that there is dead time between the film going off at the cinema and being available to buy. For example A serious man was at the Cinema at the end of last year. But is now not in the Cinemas anywhere and not yet out on DVD. How does that help anyone? {Comment #67}
There isn't. There is an easy solution though.
Simply add a clause to the contract saying that if none of the major chains in a given country (defined by % of trade in the previous 12 months, with perhaps 3% as the threshold) are showing a given movie, that the film producer is permitted to launch the DVD early in that country. At that point, the "second-showing" cinemas would also be permitted to show the film (such places do exist, one at Sheffield University, and I'm sure they'd appreciate being able to screen films others saw no merit in earlier because it boosts their attractiveness). Since cinemas wouldn't stop showing a movie early if it was making them any significant money, no major cinema chain should be in a position to object to such a clause.
Perhaps a small amount more money would smooth the way for the smaller chains, especially since the majority of films don't get the full 17-week entitlement at the small chains either.
Does he? Where?
See the tweet I linked to. His F1 times website is full of GMM...
http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/8804697640
then
http://f1times.co.uk/
he replied to my initial tweet very quickly....my second one...not so much ;)
That's crazy :)
Is he the site editor or just a contributor? 'Cos if the first he's insane...
"F1 Times Chief Analyst, Blogger, Rally Editor for An F1 Blog and author of two upcoming F1 Books, possibly"
i would say either way its hypocritical
You can't support, link and have an avatar to a site that uses GMM and then bash it - that's bad form.
kind of wishing I was at home with Tweetdeck right now..
he's not responding so you can wait :D
Mmm. I just wanted to check because while I like a good lynch mob as much as anyone, we should be sure :)
But yeah, very odd.
Anyway. Not much news I take it?
I decided to join in the fun, i want a new episode!
we have cinema here, actually it is a normal multiplex, but they have one room/theater called Director's Club. Only for 20 people = 10 couples. 10 double seater comfy plush sofas, small otomans (so one can put the feet up), small coffee table. coffee/tea/drinks/hot dog included. costs double price of regular ticket though {Comment #88}
I can see a market for that - especially if some chains introduce an "Assistant Director's Club" for more people (maybe 20 couples) on reasonably comfy sofas and coffee tables for a price between the standard and "Director's Club" prices.
what's really annoying me is that Jackie now doesn't want to blog
oh no :(
Why, Dont let the fools win Jackie!
The speed at which he was cut down and spat out by the fan community surely shows you are better than him!
What this Mike Griffin chap has done would be akin to me slagging off ManipeF1's excellent article about a weighted, normalised points system as if it was ripping off my articles about the points systems - when the only similarity is the general topic of points scoring in F1!
Jackie never wants to blog, so I was looking forward to a few day's worth of stuff :(
If she doesn't blog the terrorists have won
The other thing is, there is always cross-pollination in blogging - loads of people write articles that are similar. I think it's a great thing - because if we are investigating something and independently come to the same conclusions, it re-inforces our point.
If it's an op-ed then you get to gauge the feeling on the subject. So we all win!
I buy my tickets on the net as I refuse to go unless I get a good seat. I still have to print them at the cinema though... {Comment #92}
This is one reason I avoid going to the cinema to see a film that was released fewer than 2 weeks ago. The queues are horrendous and the telephone pre-booking service is so heavily automated that nobody in my family can use it. (Nobody else can use it either, judging by the fact my local cinema branch removed the printing machine and now expects pre-bookers to collect their ticket in the same queue as everyone else).
However, go 3-4 weeks after the film is released and it's possible to just stroll up to the cashiers and buy tickets. If it's in the evening, there may be one or two people doing the same thing, but it will be literally one or two.
Good seats are guaranteed unless you turn up late and a pair of earplugs block out the worst of the boring adverts (as well as lighting the cinema well enough that I can read the cinema brochure!). In my student days, I used to bring books in to get through the adverts and sometimes meals - my cinema-loving friend was quite puzzled when she saw me reading "Flat Out, Flat Broke" while waiting for "Happy Feet" to appear, and both of us had a cheesecake while waiting for "Music and Lyrics".
Have you noticed that loads of people keep copying the subject of an article every Thursday? ;-)
Yeah - that's a really odd coincidence! ;)
I should imagine Mr C will be angry now we've realised that ;)
Same thing happens on Fridaty
next thing you know, more than one person will be blogging about the bahrain grand prix
i also heard *whispers* that on Mondays, people have to (its a dictatorship im told) comment on every blog they read! *unwhispers*
:)
Now that is just not on... Im closest I call Dibs
If only i had time to write... :P
Fight it out amongst yourselves!
ooh then i dib writing about GP3!
oh wait, no-one else wants that ;)
I feel a need to write an article about this scurrilous behaviour, just give me a few days to check that nobody else has already done one
and someone talking behind you, someone else rustling a packet of crisps and finally, just as the film starts, a couple to squeeze in front of you stepping on your feet in the process {Comment #127}
The first two are as liable to happen at home as at the cinema, at least in my experience. Going to a film later in the cinema run tends to reduce the third, but I will admit that it does not remove the risk by any means.
Absolutely.
Oh yeah, and you have to sit next to someone you don't know. And I absolutely HATE doing that :(
I finally watched Doctor Who The End of Time last night as I knew I wouldn't be allowed any peace to be able to watch it at Christmas :-)
Suddenly i understand why you hate the train!
Woah. Even I'm not that far behind!
It's good to come to different conclusions too, see different POVs
Try getting shoved and elbowed while you sleep, or when you sit at the window and the person in the aisle doesn't leave to exit the train at central station until 5 seconds before the train arrives!
heh :)
That's also a good point :)
:-D
Worth the wait though
Joe wrote one. I think I did too but I can't remember. I feel like writing another.
ah yes, the joys of public transport, been there for all those, although i dont sleep on the train!
I just deleted an entire series of Heroes because I decided I was never going to get around to watching it and hated the fact that whatever recording I wanted to watch was always on the other side of this long list of programmes beginning with H
You can get a seat?!? *faints*
It's an InterCity Train: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IC3 and I leave so early in the morning, everyone kinda sleeps. Usually have a nap in the evening too, I'm so knackered...
I get on quite early as it's a long commute. You can book a seat, too...
Ooooh Gavin!
Checking Twitter now..
and Nick!
Read it.
...Really, now.
a bit inconsistent isn't he? one moment he's telling Jon he doesn't use GMM and now he does but others made him do it
Responded.
I my opinion of the situation still stands, if he dosent like it, then get out. Its simple.
It sounds like he wanted be an F1 journo but didn't make it
http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9524804642
Indeedy'
That's what I was thinking. He does admit it's hurt his career, but you don't need to pay anything to start your own blog.
he seems to have taken it badly
and he's replied.
I hadn't heard of him before today, if he moves today then I dont think its hurt him that much
how powerful that a few tweets from you lot have successfully killed his f1 career hahaha
he looks tired ;)
oh my bleeding heart
he can't be trusted because he goes around accusing people of copying an article that he doesn't have a copy of which was on a website that doesn't exist and which he's not sure about the name of
It's a bit drama queen...
apologising might help his reputation (although it hasn't really worked for Tiger Woods)
It was the plan all along
Step 1: Badoer
Step 2: Mr Mike
Step 3......oooh the mystery
you missed out Max (he was looking very tired)
what career? F1 blogging isn't a career unless you actually go to the paddock like Joe, James, Adam etc...
He says he has a book of some sort... trying to get it published, but none of the publishers trust him anymore. So he says, anyway.
No non-motorsport publisher will have heard of GMM, i dont believe it
all the publishers follow your's, nick's and gavin's tweets, didn't you know? ;-)
and he was the one that put his name on the site...
Not sure if this was ever posted but I thought it was awesome. The olympic gold medalist in skeleton Jon Montgomery teaching Jacues Villeneuve how tough skeleton is.
Enjoy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_bfn3utWcM
we're quite influential dontya know ;)
blocked in my country. boo. that would have been awesome
I can make or break books... FACT
*cough* For a fee Alex *cough*
they stopped listening to me after I said that harry potter book would never sell... :-(
US-only, maybe?
harry what now? :P
Oooh it's a cold one out there today. Still snowing, grr.
aha
James A published his own book and it seems to have done well (although it's impossible to know for sure - unless he never does one again).
There isn't much money in books about motor racing. The advances are quite small (if you get one at all) and it's such a niche market that you're unlikely to sell enough copies to get much in the way of royalties. Since my publisher is in the US my royalty cheques will be in dollars, so my only ambition in that regard is for the amounts in question to be high enough for there to actually be some left over once the bank has trousered its £10 charge!
Canada for sure, I will see if I can find another copy.
Me and my dad always have a giggle when his royalties cheques come through for his book. Unless you have a Harry Potter-esq success, theres not a great deal of money in book writing
Same here - in the city I work but not where I live - so it was a nice surprise to arrive at work this morning to another 5cm :)
Looking at the insideferrari twitter page. I like their background. Could have more light, otherwise, it's all right. :D
ooh thank yuou
if motor racing is bad, you should try chemical engineering... I'm yet to see any money :-D
the way i see to make money from motor racing books is to write a book, become a university lecturer and then put the book on the must read list, its a definite win :D
depending on the size of the course, you're talking about something like 100 sales a year? if that.
ok so maybe i havent thought this through
Step 1: Write Book
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Profit!
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/video/index.html?assetid=60840cff-deb5-46f1-882c-d8c8d97f73b2
You could try this but I doubt it will work either :(
Sorry everyone
Step 1: Write first chapter of book
Step 2: Sell publishing rights
Step 3: Sell film rights
Step 4: Sell merchandising rights
Step 5: I suppose you better finish this book
i love how we can give it a maple leaf rating
Spot the missing team: http://www.formula1.com/teams_and_drivers/teams/
still missing from the fia site too
Joe says all is OK
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/sauber-is-on-the-fia-entry-list/
Phew!
There is nobody in the office - they all went to a meeting!
FIA Press Release from December
"The FIA has written to inform BMW Sauber AG that their application for an entry in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship has been successful. Subject to their signing the Concorde Agreement, BMW Sauber will be awarded the 13th entry in the Championship, taking the place of the departing Toyota team."
so it's official as far as the FIA is concerned, list or no list, so it's seems a bit pedantic not to include them - bridgestone are supplying them with tyres when they won't give any to stefan, after all.
Yeah. It's just weird, that's all...
heikki is at classic lotus today:
http://tweetphoto.com/12270188
Nah, it's not weird. Probably just very bureaucratic. :D
Fair call...
Right gotta run, got a few trains to catch, see you on the other side!
Mind the Gap Jon ;)
Drama over for now then: http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/statuses/9526866860
Except he deleted his tweets and denied it ever happened. This is fun to watch!
Tune in next week folks, for the next episode
:)
AWESOME article, Stuart!
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2010/02/change-lucas-password/
I can't wait for the Dr Who episode where the Daleks start Twittering
BTW, so he KNOWS who f1scoop is? And it's a legit journo?
He has often hinted as much.
and I know why :-)
You do?
Fair point. Still no idea who he is, though.
indeed
i'm missing something here, ain't i?
On another note, I didn't know LDM was a big fan of Robert Redford...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Horse_Whisperer
well it's nothing to do with gmm
My father-in-law's girl friend is a horse whisperer - properly trained in the art
but Mrs C doesn't like horses so maybe we should move on... ;-)
Does that Heikki a Horse-Roarer?
Did he comment on the blog post? I can't access it, it isn't loading..
a good time to have gone down... but no he didn't
I commented on his... doubt he'll allow it to post though - I pointed out where he had copied his article from
Completely off topic from anything but a bit of Dr Who blogging has occured :P http://toata.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/65-the-new-dimension/
woohoo, it's safe for me to read this stuff now
:)
:)
:)
looks like i've missed an ace conversation :(
*reads back*
indeed. where were you?
:-)
The safety one? I'm surprised you found it given he couldn't remember.
haircut. sowwy :(
Mr C may have been "off-line"!!! *Gasp*
Oooh. Trying to impress the missus? :D
i know! i may need an iphone :(
Actually, he WAS! :O
...or joe :)
that just sounds SO wrong. :P
More likely Joe.
Boo. You got there first.
You know Mr C SO well. :D
Ooooh.
http://www.cosworthformula1.com/
;)
good find, sir.
A safety one, not THE (mythical) safety one - it's copied from Allianz's safety dictionary and then fed through a thesaurus - if he only knew how many students try that trick on me each year
must credit @AlejandroBurgos on Twitter for the find. ;)
*@AlejandroBurger
My phone is evil. It has started bringing up 'amazini' before displaying 'amazing' on the predictive text :(
predictive text has a lot of strange words that it thinks is important
I accidentally deleted a file that my phone must need to make the dictionary work properly, now every time I turn the phone off it wipes all the words I have added. Such a pain.
I just think my phone is picking on me.
although It is my own fault though I suppose... ;)
You have to be the ultimate Twitter finder person. Without a twitter.
Mind = blown
There's no secret to it. ;) No secret features or anything. Just using something available to all.
You must be tempted to join in!
Once or twice, but I can read everything I need to read without joining. And it's always better to comment on the blog rather than Twitter. ;)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/29844928@N07/4368522936/in/set-72157623336807855/
EPIC LEGO creation. Just... wow.
But you cant chat to @legardj on the blog (yet) :P
:D
its 2.30am and my neighbours are now onto their 6th consecutive rendition of Always by Bon Jovi.
:(
Not Bon Jovi!!
i'm guessing someone just went through a break-up there?
no, they just really really seem to like singing the same song over and over in the middle of the night in the middle of the week. Normally it's You're The Voice by John Farnham, but they only know the chorus to that so its quite painful.
hehehe. poor Amy though... can you use Giggles Radio to block out their singing?
I normally sleep upside down on my bed so my head is further from the not-soundproofed walls. Then I turn my fan on so all I can hear is its constant hum :D
I like this: "the mobility of the city keeps it away from the vicious sand storms of the wastes "
Ferrari will want to use it as their new mobile home. does it come in red?
Ferrari has a deal with LEGO, right? I'm sure they can get it in red. :D
and through santander they can get Hamilton to supervise the construction
Go on sign up... you have nothing to loose!
Hi all, thanks for the support :D
Dont worry... we er 'won' i think
Although i feel a little bit bad
But keep on blogging! :D Dont let people like that dishearten you!
and you can play "Guess who f1scoop is?"
Glad I missed the battle, I went for a walk
eh? Lewis and that woman are back together?
we don't do loosing, do we?
gutted i missed all the fun though.
Apparently so. Saw it mentioned on tv earlier.
and looking for a wedding dress (I hope for her but who knows what McLaren PR might have dreamt up)
:)
do they need the press that badly?
eugh. please no. let's stick to the obvious bride here. :D
It'd be funny if it were Stuart himself :)
he gave us a clue in the comments a while back, but it didn't help me much :(
hmmm... I think you're on to something there ;-)
you think stuart would accuse joe of pandering to toyota after they gave him a free car?
maybe he can get revenge and reveal who he is in london :D
what did he say?
he seems to be dropping clues in twitter today
i don;t think joe knows?
unless it's joe... :-D
oooh
very cryptic clues at that.
now how do you know?
got it! YOU'RE F1SCOOP! and that's how you know what is on twitter
Ahahahaha! That's a new one...
But no. It's not me. Me, an F1 journalist? How I wish. :D
Afternoon all.
i don't think they're clues for us. just stuart proving he knows scoopy?
so wait... stuart hasn't talked to whoever he thinks scoopy is?
i dunno? i assume he's confident he knows who it is, and scoop thinks he's still anonymous.
*shrugs*
Hey all
Two more days to go
Play Rage Against The Machine at 6:00am tomorrow or as you as you get back from work when their hangovers should be really baaaaad!
yay!
Ive ordered Jame's Book...
Its being sent to alisons, i hope she doest turn it into pancakes!
By Thursday I'll be brain dead. Still I've got the next early shift off so no earlies until April
Double Yay!
I always found New Order's Blue Monday worked best - it's just something about the drum on it that really makes the walls rattle
Mr Allen's?
The so called 'Collector's Item'?
The very same!
How about the 15 minute remix of Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang
70's rap, yeah baby
He says he has 4 times more followers on his f1scoop account than his actual one..
Sadly, there doesn't appear to be any journalist on there with about 600 followers, unless Ari Vatenen is behind it all
Its gonna be like F1 pokemon!
Nick: Have you worked out your whereabouts for next month yet?
surely not that easy, that'd be a dead giveaway if we can find someone with 600 followers
What are we talking about here?
I mean, how far back or what do I filter to catch up on the comments?
[Just opened Doohickey]
Ooooh!! Codemasters are revealing the first info to the F1 2010 game on March 17th :)
who is @f1scoop.
Should we care?
It's just twitter ;)
I suspect i will be here, still not confirmed though, hopefully it will be decided in the meeting tomorrow...
Id say it is about 75% certain...
Thinking of coming to visit?
Will Buxton isn't far off 600
Scoop is not a word I pay much attention in the media
Very tabloid
it's a quiet afternoon :)
Or: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/407730-according-oxm-f1-2010-details-next-months-issue.html
Quite possibly, if there isn't an Embargo for Staff Travel
Somewhere between Mar 11 - 15th
Maybe
it's that or discussing hammy's wedding plans
Twitter it is then
Ahh, awesome :D
ace. but isn't this just an announcement, of an announcement?
I hate teasers
Some of it looks quite 'insider' though, if true
My dad will be over here then, but you are more than welcome...
Not sure i can put you up though, as alison will tell you my mansion is slightly small for now, but im hoping to move ASAP so i will let you know
I actually had no idea they were working on a F1 2010 game. Still too busy with MW2, I guess.
that's the point - it's supposed to be an alter ego for an f1 journo
interesting.
I may do Hong Kong or Dublin yet, so I'll let you know nearer the time
[Will your Dad be happy coming on the lash with us?]
Probably. From what I know off the forums, they've sent off a set of screenshots to the FOM for approval for release.
you reckon bernie needs to play it first too?
and Emma's on Twitter too. so if they were a pair...
See what ideas he can nick for his ideas in changes to f1
hehe, maybe, although i cant get too smashed mid week!
Going by http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/f1-media/
there are a few around the 600 mark - near enough to be descibed as having a quarter of the followers
:)
Is there a way to see who was the first to follow a person apart from 'next page' through the followers pages?
#TwitterInvestigation
ahhh....
No that's cool, I can come for an early weekend
does web.archive.org cover that?
Hes following castrol raninkgs so i think its highly likely to be haymarket
#twitterinvestigation
Don't you go 'all html' on me now!
sounds close. stuart's clue a while back related to sutton images. so there is an association: http://www.gpweek.com/contact.html
gpweek is a competitor to gp+ too, so maybe some frustration there?
:D
but mark sutton has about 600 followers too :-D
Oooooh.
it's plausible, then. but we don't have much more to go on beyond that.
blast. there's mark and keith sutton though. that pairing stand up?
could do so too. but do photogs like spreading gossip?
And does Stuart's use of the words Allianz and Donne have any connection?
Awww cute cute.
Tell him to find a new house!!!
Well, if he can get one in under 2 weeks, even better! ;)
:D
Give him credit Alison, he did say:
not to me. i did find the comment though: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/02/valencia-testing-day-two-february-2010/#comment-671341
He knew Alison was lurking :)
hmmm. the Buxton theory makes more sense to me, but both are possible.
:D
Apparently the first thing he followed was Grandprixtv.net
http://grandprixtv.net/
#twitterInvestigation
What about followers?
allianz suggests a link to williams?
I'm not a school teacher!
there are 2000 of them.. dig in!
No missoops
:D
Ooh, also, I heard today that Suzi Perry ditched Moto GP as she was tiring of the travelling now she has a family
Via MCN apparently
That's why I asked if there was an easy way to get to the beginning of the list
if you use list view you get 20 per page...
I know!
:P
Go on then ;)
Nah, bored of that story now
so, lewis and nicole, eh?
Did I mention me & Mallya? ;)
shock! gasp! ;)
indeedy. i heard you posted about it a whole day before you knew ;)
i'm going to get them a USF1 toaster for their wedding present... nobody else will think of that ;-)
yesterday I think
It was a teaser announcement gone wrong
:)
evening :)
Hi Lou
Lou: Have you thought about what time you'll arrive in London
Amdefinitely grabbing food before Joe's
[MacD's, pub food or other]
Hey Lou. :)
Gotta go to bed now. :) Night, folks!
Bye Journeyer
Hey lou and bye journeyer
bye journeyer. :)
oh goodness. I shall check train times now. it starts at 7 right?
Yup
the first person to follow f1scoop was... @BMWSauberF1Team
I don't think that helps! :-D
Could be an insider there...
Or friend of
#conspiracytheory
They actually pulled out as they were almost outed as the people behind F1Scoop....
:D
right looking at train times i can realistically get the train to london that will get me into Charing Cross just before 6. However if i miss that one there is a train that will get me there for 6:25. either way plenty of time to get to Oxford Circus and get to the venue. I may end up eating something on train.. will depend if i remember to make something i think.
OK, uou have my number anyway
I'll try to meet Turkey Machine and/or Alex near Oxford Circus
okay. i'll text you when i'm in London :) i need to confirm plans with mum but i may be getting the later train. I know where the venue is (thank you Lukeh) so if for any reason i'm late i'll be okay to find it.. i hope :D
Hey everyone.
Just wanted to share a quick idea...
"USF1... The Musical"
What is going on today?
Speculation mostly
Hi Dan
love it!
James A is meeting Max tommorow in london
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com
It should be interesting to hear his response to the whispering horses "holy war" :D
Doubt it, he'll have an equally snidey yet predictable response
Im hoping he might decide to discuss some more of his meetings with luca
Goooood Everning all
Including hits like:
"Some Enchanted Entry"
"Crush E'vry Rumor"
"(Jose) Maria"
Yankee Doodle Dudely"
"Springtime for Stefan and Serbia"
"Don't drive for me Argentina"
Hi Jonboy
Steeeeeeeeeeeven!
Nick is picking on Michel!!!!
Excellent!
:-D :-D :-D
evening sire. i see Mr Griffin took some of the advice given
:D :D :D
I just misremembered his name!
You rang?
Needs a wiki page
I bet EJ is gutted the horse guy didnt mention him!
May be @F1scoop... no never!
And you think that is a minor thing?
I missed a few now that I think about it:
"Get Me to the Grid on Time"
"Oh, What a Beautiful Toaster"
To be fair what i called him would have been better :)
It doesn't seem so from Alison's response but I have to ask. What did you call him?
Blasphemy!
Evening everybody.
I bet it's not repeatable
:D
Giggles!
I asked if it was Michel le roux or la roux!
You thought he might be a woman?
how was i to know that he wast a 'the' person!
seriously? if this is true Alison is (more) wrong (than usual)
hello. I am in the lowlander. Expect some drink selection options on the drop :)
Hehe...
bad idea to laugh?
I may have said something after when she corrected me, its hard to remember ;)
Steeeeeeeven :(
ah.
Oh dear
I like the way she complains to you not me :P
Am I your personal protection now?
Drury Lane?
Going to the theatre tonight?
That is quite funny :)
#sorryAlison
Update on NOT joes game..
I had to race a german and he cheated...
I am here for the 2008 sofa f1 championship prizegiving. Sofaf1 time is even later than sidepodtime.
You haven't been paying attention have you?
#OhDear
Goodness me!
Best newcomers - Super Aguri?
Team most likely to succeed in 2009 - Honda
:)
gosh it's impossible to catch up with comments here. i've just read through todays comments to be faced with another 25!
Pictures of the menu and the trophy on the drop
reading 25 more after reading through an entire day's worth can't be that bad :-)
evening Giggles.
#sorrylou
I gave up on reading all the comments several months ago. Now I read the last ten when I check in and do a few quick searches for various terms on the comments since my last one.
and a mighty one it is too!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-416
it's a lot mightier than the 2007 one that I won.
Whats Belgian Guinness?
Do they put mayo in it?
#sameperson
heehehe tis true. I hope Jackie is feeling better and will continue blogging. looks like i missed alot today.
It is perfect for dunking chips in
What's up with Jackie? I missed that. Now I feel I should read all the comments
i get home from school, make a cup of tea and read through the comments for a while. Sometimes i'll quickly skim through, but i try and catch up a bit. It's almost like the mfc version of sitting down with a cup of tea reading a newspaper :)
My vote!
Just thought of Peter Windsor with his Australian accent singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" on stage...
It's funny, but hurts so much at the same time.
When I get home tonight, I will add "USF1... the Musical" to the Wiki.
From what i gather there was a bit of a twitter explosion today regarding @mike_griffin_f1.
Can't see that one but I vote for it too
Never heard of him
Is it me or is drop.io loading a lot quicker these days?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-4-415
Did h have a go at Jackie for something?
http://twitter.com/VivaF1/status/9518522975 sums it up kinda well.. but reading back on tweets and comments gives a better picture :)
accused her of copying his blog article because they had slightly similar titles but he didn't actually have a copy and it was on a website that no longer exists and he which was no longer sure about the name of either so who knows how she managed to copy it
the irony is that looking through his blog his articles look to have been lifted from elsewhere anyway
Ah, I saw 'Scotch' and ignored what was below it
they have scotch guiness too?
Ha ha
Gordon's Scotch Ale or Hercule Stout
not only that, but he made a crack about GMM and when we raised the fact that the site is a co-owner of uses GMM he had a bit of a paddy
Is that 8%!!
I'll get my coat
they have improved it. we're still dropping it though.
and he defended GMM last week when I had a crack at them - so he's not that anti-GMM
that doesn't work does it?
we're still going to stop using it this summer :)
He runs a GMM site and is accusing someone else of plagiarism? What kind of moron thinks that paying someone to steal someone else's work is OK but objects when he thinks someone else steals his work? Clearly Jackie's article is not emotely his article re-hashed. It simply happens to be on safety and the basic facts of the safety of F1 are set.
Jackie,
If you are reading this don't let that moron put you off blogging.
He was about to chuck his 509 page book away.
lucikly between me and his mum we manged to stop him...
That's for the weaklings.
what about his film?
i've missed quite the day!
is it a picture book?
Never heard of that
:D :D :D
Being offline is scary!
So plagiarism is OK if he pays for it but not if he thinks someone takes something from him
we need a new fake twitter account. fakemikesmum.
I think I need to visit his site
did you know there is a movie too?
http://shortyawards.com/mike_griffin_f1
notice 2 of the votes are from himself
and a podcast? who makes a movie... and a podcast?
Oooh, I could dig up that old sidepodcast movie script from somewhere and claim I'm writing a movie as well.
you can have fun finding where his articles come from
e.g. http://michaelgriffinonf1.wordpress.com/2010/02/03/massa-quickest-again-in-testing-day-two/
looks a lot like http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/02/massa-fastest-again-on-day-2-in-valencia/
come to think of it - just noticed the similarity in website name
heheh!
presumably waiting for james to finish his film first then?
And we need to introduce Mr Griffin to the twitter account of his news source
http://twitter.com/gmmf1
it would explain the book
and another is from f1times
Haha, he even has a second account
*following
1 from his mum technically
the same one isn't it? just unblocked it again
yeah, i jumped the gun a bit there
he amuses me more now i know hes a fake james allen
Hiya
i'm blocked from following fakejamesallen
:)
why aren't you blogging? shoo! ;-)
evening Jackie!
not blogging, sorry
I seem to have stopped everyone talking too so I'll say bye bye
Come back Jackie
[waves]
Hey Jackie! :)
nooo!!! Jackie! come back. How are you?
I have Masterchef love once more. I'm missing my Michel though :(
Lou: Do you remember me telling you abut Galaxie 500?
Their back catalogue is being re-issued
http://www.dominorecordco.com/artists/galaxie-500/
Evening. Is the Ski Cross on at the moment just qualifers? Do they race later?
Just posted a comment on your circuit safety article telling you to ignore morons
How do you get blocked by a fake account
Live at BBC site
Don't know about tv
Sorry, just come in here midway through a conversation, but...
Who the jinkies is Mike Griffin?
Michel who?
best not ask :D
GMM lover apparently
Accused Jackie of plagiarism, if I understand correctly :(
:(
Nick bullies me :(
james allen's doppelganger, we think?
I think they do everything in one day from qualifying to races to the final
James Allen's evil twin
Another "Mad Chris" judging by today's events...
Seems so, it's first time in the Olympics
Guess they underestimated it's appeal
You can't have that. Kick him out. At least you are getting a free book
NICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The internet brings out all the crazies :(
To me it is crazy. They should run the qualifiers one day and use that as a trailer for the quarters etc the final day. That way they would get a far bigger audience
no.where.near!
i remember vaguely. ooo that's awesome :)
I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to. Does that make me cool?
Not yet!
Memory of a Mr C ;)
wait wait, lets not get too carried away.
I don;t think we'll find anyone match that level of crazy, yeesh.
He is delusional. Thinks he has written a book, a film script, thinks he is a journalist worth an award etc etc but his website runs GMM. Who is going to hire a journalist who runs plagiarised stories. He is a moron
you really don't know how awful chris was then.
hahah sadly my memory isn't that great most of the time. :)
Hehehe
I don't want the book....
Just reading his Twitter page. Think I've read enough.
No I don't - I missed the fireworks there.
I just think if Mr. Griffin turned up here things wouldn't end up much different.
Put it on ebay or sell it on sidepodcast
And you're not even seeing the ones he deleted and denied ever existed!
Look what you've done to me. Picture on drop.
Quality!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-417
wtf?
Doesn't the Twitter search facility bring up deleted tweets? Least it used to.
But Bassano is in the comments
;)
Lots of samplers
whhat??
Not anymore. But the google one does!
Who said I'm not mobile? ;)
#MFC
:P
You have given up wearing the Inco Raceproof T shirt already?
the google one does
Yeah erm best not? :P
it's really between 4 of us.
You say that but we can only see you.
If you go to this post of 'his' and rate it one star [for example] it means 'very poor post
Just saying
That's what you think!
the glasses are a bit small aren't they?
Samplers
He also gets a site visit.
well there are 12 there... plus the drink next to your right arm... hmmmmmm... ;)
Of people telling him 'it's crap'
Didn't realise he was so young. We were all a bit delusional at 19
He'll learn
Live by the sword...
busted.
#imonholiday
You around Thursday or are you editing/tweaking?
yes - we'd tell ourselves we didn't need to share all those drinks with 3 other people for starters
Definitely but it makes me slightly sympathetic to him. He has the means to bring all thi on his head at that age where I didn't. Good thing as I probably would have done something equally stupid.
Being web savvy means learning about etiquette too
Will be shutting the poll soon, so if you haven't voted on Life in the Fast Lane yet: http://tenstepstories.wordpress.com/2010/02/22/life-in-the-fast-lane-part-7/
Sorry but I disagree. There are people here much younger than that who are twice as mature as he is...
he says his f1 career is dead.. and he is 19?... he can move on from all this. if he's good enough in the future it will just be a hard lesson he had to learn. it can't be nice getting loads of abuse though, however am on jackie's side, her blogs are awesome :)
ta ;)
:-D
You built a boat out of plastic bottles :D
:)
:)
I totally agree but at least at 19 he has a chance he will learn unlike his preferred source of news
He's not getting abuse at all - he was the one calling names and those who responded have been very restrained...
and a gingerbread houses of parliament and eiffel tower.
touché
i should say that i did call mike on his use of GMM pre-christmas. it can't have come as a massive shock to the system that there are people who think they're rubbish.
And your twitter avatar is you sitting on a table in a home made Jamaican bobsled ;)
Still, you don't go round calling people names...
Sorry, but:
Michael lives in *****, **** with his mother who he cares for
Of course there are. People mature at different rates. We had this same conversation last night concering Lou going to university in California. People mature at different rates.
hah oh yeah. ok so i take it back :D
am not standing up for him i agree :) was just sayin :)
:D :D
He is overreacting. If he is half as clever as he thinks he is this will have no effect on his future. He will simply have a bunch of people who will take a lot of convincing
"it led him to his first website, Bleacher Report. When he joined them, he soon became one of the most respected writers on the site, and held the title of top F1 writer for 18 months."
On his website
His
Doofus
Just picked up my copy of heavy rain =)
Who writes ANF1BLOG Mikes profile says he is their "Rally Editor"
nothing wrong with that - south american indians do the same thing
that's just silly
And we didn't realise we were delousional until we were older
:D
Yeah I know - but with him deleting tweets it doesn't look so bad as it did yesterday...
It's Jon and why we love 'im
jack. we like jack, he's sound.
Jack - and I have guest posted there...
To be fair, he has a lot of guest writers - so he probably wrote like one rally post for him :D
Maybe somone should give him a heads up, if his output there is like his own blog...
Ah ;)
He writes? :P
What is heavy rain?
British Weather report for this week, I think
[PS3 game]
Yeah its good stuff, i would hate to find out he has content in there which isnt as original as the auther might have claimed
Sorry about you book going on ebay Nick.
#nothingtodowithmehonest
:D
Never heard of it
Ha!
at least he didn't deliberately crash into a wall I suppose...
Ladies Ski Cross finals start at 21:00
It's a psychological thriller. Think an interactive movie, throws all the conventional game mechanics you'd expect out the window. It looks mindblowing, personally.
That should be worth watching
By the same makers of Indigo Prophecy, or Fahrenheit. The demo for it is awesome.
Now I just have to wait till work is over to go play... bleh....
You need to lets us know what it is like after you have played for a while
^^THIS^^
Will do, but if it's anything like the demo, it'll be fantastic.
I was told to watch the Ice Skating as the winners were 'amazing'. I'm bored already!
I'm going to have to watch ice skating tonight... My woman loves it, so by default I have to also.
The Kerrs used Linkin Park in their performance. They usually use Muse. They lost using LP.
Just sayin'... ;)
They were supposed to be a medal prospect and ended up 8th
i've got the curling I think, that or the cleaners are preparing for the next event
Oh I thought I'd just watched the winners watching that one!
This is why I hate figure skating. You have no idea what the judges will do...
My thoughts exactly
Wrong song, definitely :P
maybe its "go figure" skating
:)
:)
After careful consideration, I've decided not to sell Nick's book.... He is the keeper of rather a lot of my stuff at the moment!
GBR 5 Canada 5 - going to an extra end
Get your stuff back then flog his book
#confidential
Does he store them in the correct fashion?
Indeed. I get Curling, it's just slow. But at least it's a lot more interesting than this.
Clearly Figure Skating is the Abu Dhabi of the Olympics - much anticipated, looks nice, very little action!
Maybe it needs more Will Ferrell and the guy out of Napoleon Dynamite. They made it seem interesting.
Oooh! And Will Arnett! Can't forget him.
We'll get Flavio to run the next olympics, he'll spice it up.
That would be London 2012, so lets hope not :P
They're in a drawer. I hope he leaves them alone.
He probably has raw steaks on top of them
Untouched!
:)
That was a funny film!
Hey!
pmsl I just tweeted that I should take up knitting ... no sooner said than I get an email "Sewing Arts Center (sewingarts) is now following your tweets on Twitter. " lol haha
grrrrrrr @ Mclaren!!!
http://twitter.com/McLaren_eShop/status/9521820641
i have to pay to see more images... i wonder if they have testing images/ galleries open for members... booooo.
I know, I'm thinking of going 'black ops' on twitter again
Ouch!
Wipeout
nooooo!
Spammy McSpammers :(
can I watch .. I missed all the fun today
yesterday i said i wanted someone to buy me an HD camera and i got 2 auto tweets linking me to cheap cameras :D
do you know how many knitting needle related accidents there are each year?
but you may as well not be on there. who cares who's following you anyhow?
No, I don't mind about that
I just don't want crap from them
Just bracing for that to start
do tell
I got a coin collector following me after I asked someone about a pic of their coins in a drawer...
fair enough. it seems pointless using it then. what not stop?
The Simon Singh libel suit began today
News here: http://www.indexoncensorship.org/2010/02/simon-singh-chiropractic-bca-libel-appeal/
Not nearly as many as there could be. I can think of some people I work with that could use some knitting needle accidents.
Finally the 'amazing' gold medal winners. Come on then, win me over ...
I didn't say stop
Probably wasn't clear, I meant 'go private'
i know. and i'm saying, you may as well stop.
In 2002 there were....
3,424 Sewing Needle Related Accidents
41 Cotton Reel or Bobbin Related Accidents
0 Knitting Machine Related Accidents
103 Knitted Needle Related Accidents....
231 in 2000
179 in 2001
103 in 2002
Don't see that
I follow who I follow, if they choose to follow me, then that's nice
And none of them happened to the fat guy that sits next to me, smells of sausage and tries to annoy me each day with what he did on WOW last night =(
I was being sarcastic, but thank you :D
*watching women's biathlon
that i can believe :)
i machined through my finger. it hurt
Same here, along with the figure skating. It's not exactly Bolero or anything...
aha no problem.
Jon Waldock here for all your useless statistical needs
Have you tried putting your fingers in your ears and saying "La, la, la. I'm not listening" :D
people have done that a few times in my textiles class.
I must say I do get annoyed when people talk to me about WOW. I just don't see the point...
I'd rather watch curling
Don't they give scores like 5.2... 5.9... 6.0 anymore?
I love that Tech Support video of the guy playing RPG whilst on the helpdesk
of course. but if you're private i can't see you. we can't include you in the commenters list and you may as well not be tweeting. it's pointless being a private tweeter.
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/23/win-a-signed-copy-of-the-grand-prix-saboteurs/
For you, not me
fair enough. it seems a waste of time to me, you may as well be emailing yourself.
Awesome!
Ummm I'm private and I'm on the commenters list. I think I just had to confirm you but it may be more awkward. I just don't like all the spam but we've had this conversation before ;)
true, you're not appearing in some of the things we have in development though.
#confidential
No, I'm tweeting to the people who are already following me.
But I haven't done it yet, just will if spam starts
i guess so.
Janna: are you attending Friday?
I would have liked to but it's my birthday and I had already agreed with my friends to go out with them. I'm looking forward to the evening, I've been told to be ready by 7pm and to wear pink but I know nothing else.
Hopefully, I'll get to see Joe another time, I'm definitely hoping to make a Sidepod meetup soon but can't make March 17th :(
17th March?
I am going to be in London the week after Easter. Who wants to meet us at the pub?
St Patrick's day
It's an SPC tradition
Paddy's day?
no i meant whats happening on 17th march?
Sorry, Bassano was talking previously about St Patrick's day
That too ;)
wait... wait... what's happening March 17th?...
The Coal Hole on The Strand 7pm
Mini Pies for dinner
ohh... never mind. it's the day before our musical starts... i may or may not be stuck at school setting lights..
But Gavin's in town after Easter
I'm on leave that week before becoming unemployed on 13th April, I'll look out for the arrangements in the comments
If it's the weekend after Easter, I'm off then
im on holiday from after the Ausi GP, so i'll be around then :) but i can't plan that far ahead... :D
You resigned/made redundant
I'll tweet or send you a text
Its Tue-Wed-Thurs I think...
Earlies :(
No problem, I put it in the comments when I resigned in January but I'm having to work 3 months notice. Just decided not to work for a while ;)
Great Jumbalya recipe, had some at the weekend
http://www.britishturkey.co.uk/recipes/recipes/recipe.087L.shtml
Lucky you
Apart from concerts in May
Ice hockey. Now I feel manly again :)
well... i say i'm on holiday from then.. it's only for 4 weeks. Then i go back for 4 weeks then i'm kinda free :)
but yes. except concerts in may :)
That looks good, am currently craving tomatoes on toast, I blame @jupitusphillip on twitter
I've seen those, quite an event
If anyone was thinking of seeing The Lovely Bones after reading the book
Don't, stick with book
i never read the book, but i thought the film was okay. not as good as sherlock holmes though :D
That was the problem, it should've been so much more than 'okay'
There's a huuuuuuge advertising hoarding here (next to the Tardis in fact!!) and everytime I go past it now it makes me laugh thinking of that film. :)
Leo said TWiT TV was playable in Mobile Safari
Maybe it's U.S. only :(
have you got the twit app?
Yup, audio only?
umm, pass. video plays in it fine in the uk though.
I have the Calendar on the screen for some reason
I like how "gone away for a long time" turned into 5 tweets in the last hour... soo much for feeling ashamed of what he'd done
I read through his tweets earlier when someone linked to them. He said he was going away for a long time then immediael tweeted something else.
i wouldn't know, fakejamesallen has blocked me :-(
any of them a retraction and apology?
Urm.. Lou...
Downey lost weight for the part, because during a chat he had with Chris Martin, Martin recommended that Holmes look "gaunt" and "skinny"
Chris Martin influenced Sherlock Holmes ;)
Ok so please don't laugh at me (too much) but when it says "London St Pancras" it means Kings Cross right? (and dont get cocky saying they are 2 different things ;) )
no way
Buffering too much despite 4/5 bars signal and on wiFi
Webcast is working live though on 'puter
Which pub? And yes.
hmm. i'll check in a bit, haven't used for a while.
The two are next to each other, yes
S'ok
Am watching on iMac now. Cheers
Will listen in full to podcast
thought so, ta
Kings Cross and St Pancras are 2 different stations a few hundred yards from each other. One goes to Europe and partway north, the other goes up the East Coast Main Line. Kings Cross St Pancras tube station links the 2 together.
You say that, it's not an easy walk. I'm outta breath every time I leg it for the train I'm about to miss!!!
He can't block google
http://www.google.co.uk/#q=mike_griffin_f1+twitter&hl=en&sa=G&tbs=mbl:1&tbo=u&ei=bT2ES-KODILy0gT60r3OAg&oi=realtime_result_group_more_results_link&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBMQ5QUwAA&fp=33a9a577caa4e7cb
You can walk through the tube station if you get easily lost (not like I would ever need to do that....)
Ah, now see I can make easily lost seem attractive! I'm good at that! Hence why my hotel's right next to the train station that can take me home at a moment's notice! :D
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah i remember it now, ive been there before, but the ticket thingy says St Panc so i thought id check
Tip: Walk in the direction you want to end up in ;)
I'm guessing thats a positive reaction
Er, I reckoned the opposite. Gaunt and skinny may have been the fashion back then, but it certainly shouldn't be now!
We did work out how I got lost on the Strand.... Someone had turned a signpost around so I went left out the station instead of right. Luckily my instincts made me turn around as where I was walking looked distinctly dodgy.
:D :D :D Chris Martin. Sherlock Holmes..... it's too much... :D
Impressive, however don't most parts of London look like that? *runs*
:D
have you noticed the lack of comments "correcting" your perception?
ahhh i have the ability to wonder around london and get lost, close to the destination too :)
Awww :P
Not that I want to get involved in today's actions... but... I've just noticed on tweetdeck a certain someone has just begun following me on twitter ;)
What's the song I am listening to while waiting for the Ski cross?
he says.
"I'm back, main reason is I have nothing else, no money either, can't even afford a 15p fudge bar. Sad eh? Apology about earlier up later." https://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9542339561
Just reading F1 Racing...
they have Kimi down as costing £29,670.33 per lap in 2009
at the other end is Rubinho at £614.12 per lap
Yeah. I don't really have a sense of direction at all...
Ya mean the BBC intro?
mine is... debatable... just ask Lukeh... or Mr & Mrs C
:)
I'll buy him a Fudge bar if he publishes an apology
but really he should be into Yorkies by his age
No, before that. It's the background track to a dance anthem that came out this year...
Am I supposed to feel sorry for him now?
I knew great portland street was on the left. ;)
:D i'm wondering if there are actually chocolate/fudge bars that cost as little as 15p (i don't buy chocolate often so i wouldn't really know)
Is ti the lumberjack song?
it's worrying that we both looked at the map and seconds later i was convinced it was on the right :(
Nope!
i like his latest tweet, appropriate choice
I thought that too ;)
Jeez, I did 200 or so laps around Hockenheim when I lived in Germany and I didn't make a cent =(
I tweeted about Peckham the other day
#NotDisagreeing
Awwww. Well we found it in the end :)
Rubens is priceless
yay Ski Cross!!! :D
REplied: A fudge bar is a more important topic than the apology?
The worst bit about it, is that the top 32 qualify from the qualifiers. The British one was 33rd.
Things must be getting worse. He tweeted a reply to Gavin earlier saying he couldn't afford a Mars Bar.
:D Thank you
Where was the Kiwi?
no... £614.12 per lap
next it will be one of 1p flying saucer sherbet things
talk about fudging the issue
They're like, 5p these days. Damned inflation.
betcha if we do get an apology it'll be removed 5 minutes afterwards
I'm not getting into a dialogue about him or 'it' but regardless of what happended today, he seems like an idiot with a keyboard to me
He'll never be able to afford that now!
Or a Freddo either!! They were once 10p... he could afford it then... but now they're 20p and simply unaffordable :(
I think people who get given milky bars don't really know how lucky they are ;-)
Actually I have not said a word to him, nor tweeted anything derogatory to him
My childhood. My unbelievably cheap childhood :(
Hello again.
Looks like the first ski cross race has resulted in a need for hospitalisation
I know :(
:D
omg!
Hi Pat
That brings back bad memories :(
You can't be surprised given some of the crashes we saw in the men's races
Hello
I've just realised I've not eaten tonight... must. find. food.
Hey Pat
not really.. but it's so dangerous :( i hope they are okay.
Was that the thing where they jump over huge moguls?
They reckon she did her knee in...
Looks like a standard skiing knee injury
ouch :(
Thats, well, moguls
This is where there are four of them racing over jumps etc
outside= bad :)
They could hold an olympics on a 2nd floor land and just go down a staircase on a tin tray
Women do bobsleigh? Since when?
Yes saw that on Sunday, they're nuts
omg that would be painful.
Who cares? It means more bobsleigh :D
Less painful than falling down a mountain at 50mph!
that's like every weekend in the dorms at all universities across the US.
Wait, wait.. wait... WHAT?!
Evening all :P
Did they just say they've been working with Brawn and McLaren?!
WHAT???
The women's bobsleigh team worked with McLaren on their bob then the ex-Brawn team. They are like Jenson in reverse
No wonder last years McLaren started off awful, it was meant to be a bobsled!!
Best way
i was about to say "and women" but then realised that Jenson is a man, reverse of man = woman.
#backincave
The Italian bob was built by Ferrari
No paddle shifters on it though.
that is awesome. :)
What happened?
ah good man :)
is it called katesleigh?
Many in the UK too
woah. crossover!
Another crash in the ski cross
So we're fully expecting it to have a double diffuser then?
we always knew that f1 and bobsleigh were related ;)
And it's coping with the weather?
Went over a jump, fell backwards and landed on the tails of her skis. The skis stayed attached which meant her knee had to bend and stretch in a very unnatural way. The commentator reckons probably the cruciate ligament went pop
hhehehe
Wrong name for it. Should be called ski crash.
yes, i was reading an article about it a week or two ago
Now we just need Jamaica F1
Oww, oww, oww, OWWW!
Last time I saw it, it was going downhill fast
they'd end up working with usf1 though :-(
Maybe USF1 can move
Last year's Ferrari design then :)
even if he does everso slightly over-promote. but he does do good stuff.
:)
(i may not follow him, i just like him)
So when will they claim the British one is a copy???
"Jamaica, we have an F1 team!"
:D
Well Cool Runnings portrays the karting scene at the start, so..... :P
When the Italian one wins something
Mrs. Goat tore a ligament skiing last year. all that happened was that her leg went the wrong way...
Are they saying Wu Tang?
Who designed this track, ODB?
it's push karting. its slightly different :P
I can imagine the mechanics singing that in the pits while working on the car. :P
There is no such thing ;)
Hey, it's a different culture, be nice ;)
:D :D :D
That's what they are saying
True to life story for you all,
enjoy
http://jonwaldock.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/what-would-you-do/
As in Wu Tang Clan?
Is there another meaning?
*googles
Wudang Mountains or Wu-Tang Mountains, a mountain range in central China
Commented...
The McLaren bob won the world championship. The Ferrari one has won nothing
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/editors-choice/2009/03/20/our-heroes-2009-gillian-cooke-went-from-bobsleigh-champion-to-world-champ-in-five-months-86908-21212384/
#confidential
exactly what i did, but she came and picked it up an hour ago
KIWI!!!
Kiwi alert. She is wearing yellow
And she's rubbish - easy to spot ;)
Yellow bib is the slowest qualifier
Should have given her a black one...
Hi Jim, are you new? Haven't seen you about. Sounds like a guest post is in order.
Long time listener, first time poster.
Hey Jim :)
The colour scheme is odd. You would think they would use the same colours as ski runs. Black for fastest, red, blue, green but they use three of them in the wrong order and dream up yellow from somewhere
Welcome to the comments Jim
Greetings!
howdy! welcome to the spc comments :)
Much thanks =)
hey jim. sorry, didn't realise that. appreciate your comments.
Second-time now! :)
Barbara sleigh. Babsleigh
Evening Jim ;)
hello!
Me neither. I thought I recognised Jim's name. Welcome Jim.
Aww the Dane and the Kiwi were rubbish :(
You've caught us on an evening where we're [unusually] talking about Sport
#BlameVancouver
Currently in the process of putting this onto my iPhone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6SDjrJb3t0
and this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrzDn_axpTk
The gamers around here should be familiar with them ;) :P
Yea, everyone in my office is talking about how the US beat Canada in Hockey. Well that and WOW =/
Classic!
Are you stateside Jim, if so whereabouts?
Could not have predicted that I must admit.
Two crashed at the same time!
Yellow's gonna go through!!
That WTC tune is just soooo good! The bass riff is just incredible.
Looked like one crashed and the other took avoiding action resulting in a crash
how did the brawn team do?
Spectacular.
oh no that was the bobsleigh... never mind!
ah yes, many hours lost to this game :)
Doesnt look like it
The one who won deserved to, just because she reacted so quickly..
That was some game. The shot count was incredible
Indeed. Brilliant games!
McIvor sounds like MacGyver :)
Toca 2 was my favourite toca game, such awesome times!
I love that the track is technically challenging...
That is a bit low to go sky diving from
Especially the difference between how many SOG canada had compared to the US. Miller is a beast.
How embarrassing!
Last one was a great stack
He saved USA
That poor woman, she fell in the ditch on the first jump too....
She made the Olympics though
No mean feat
Go green bib!!
And did the splits almost
Fell in a ditch and slid over the finish line on her belly with her skis god knows where.... In front of the whole world!
Another ouch!
Ooooh... she reeeeeally took off then...
Ouch. Looked like her ski caught the one in front
Voodoo I tells ya!
Well, closing time is here, so time to shut down shop and go home for the day. Take care folks
See ya later ;)
See ya Jim
Do come back another time
see ya jim.
Catch ya around :)
See ya Jim, do return soon :)
come back soon :)
Bye Jim. Hope you come back and comment again soon.
That green bib lady did what I do on Wii Fit Ski Jump!
You jump 20 metres in the air then smash into the ground?
Rubber Goat Energy Drink sounds interesting
Usually!
:D
Rubber Goat gives you springs ;)
insider info re: usf1 on autosport: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81664
Ta
blimey, that race was non stop stuff...
Doomed.
"All engineering decisions were having to be funneled through [Ken] Anderson before anything could be signed off. And that's where the hold up was.
"Tooling for the tub was completed in early December, but then it sat for nearly a month before the laminate schedules for the outer skin were approved.
Doh!
For those who are wondering why I like NASCAR or at least watch it on occasions, I guess this game is the reason why - and to blame!

Not TWO seconds before I sat down and saw Mr. NOble's tweet a coworker asked me if there was anything new. But I need to go home :(
"In a meeting between the employees, Windsor and Anderson, Windsor put the question up to the employees: 'Who here doesn't think we'll make Bahrain?' I think Windsor might have meant it somewhat rhetorically, but he was answered nonetheless, and 100 per cent of the staff raised their hands. He was visibly shocked." :(
is this site new? http://ie6funeral.com/ i like it.
Windsor didn't know there was a problem? All of us knew there was a problem. Hurley is the only man who can sort things out because he is the only one with money.
I only go to funerals of people/things I actually liked when they were alive.
Jeez!
and I'm sad that they're gone.
Definitely not sad about IE 6 gettin' gone :)
Work still uses IE6
I think we're upgrading to 7 in April
Seriously, IT dept says it must be this way
Will there be a wake? :D
madness
has been on a very long holiday?
He's probably busy practising post race conferences, asking questions to himself and answering himself
Stayed in his office looking at his Jimmy Clark print
"It rendered things it's own way, even when all the other browsers were conforming to standard"
:)
Trying to drum up sponsorship with no car to show, I'm guessing.
ahaha!
Not if it crashes, there won't.
*runs*
I can believe that. He's clearly had his head in the sand for months.
Great race
I hear the coffin will be Chromed :D
Also looks like Ken is a micromanager.
Such a close finish!
:)
There will be a minute's blue screen of death
Either that, or he just doesn't care about a US F1 team succeeding in the sport. He does know that there's like a £60m+ investment needed to get them into the top 10, at least?
"Way too complex and time consuming. I did question why it was so complex if it was not necessary."
he thinks he can do it better!
hee!
Can't run the business because he wants to make sure the gear paddles are exactly as he wants them
that's it isn't it.
you can see it now.
Same.
Your chariot of a blue e awaits!
I just want USF1 to announce they aren't gonna be happening, just to see if AUTOSPORT brag about predicting that
Yes, you and everyone else autosport ;)
I have seen it before. People who think they are control freaks and are just insecure
way too busy fussing about what everyone else isn't doing over christmas rather than looking at what his own team isn't doing
i'm surprised they haven't claimed that bahrain is in 16 days, just like they predicted last summer.
I think they'll make it.
..
..
Damn I can't keep a straight face.
Why is the Norwegian speaking French?
Because given the choice I would too ;)
Not just that but he thinks it is the 60s when some team bosses made their name by not putting anything on the car until they gave it the once over. You can't do that that now, there are too many parts and most of them are specialised. The key to F1 now is to delegate to top-line lieutenants.
Sounds too much like common sense ;)
Come on guys, are we that surprised?
well it was on here before AUTOSPORT
Anybody'd think you're a bit mean. First beer's on me at Joe's meetup! :)
oooo a countdown! :P
Not remotely. Every time they released a video or still pic of the factory I said something was seriously wrong
interesting...
Since Dieter Rencken writes for both that's fine...
:D
Who said 16 days? I coulda sworn there were 3 weeks to go dammit!
I try my best...
Plus I ain't going down to see Joe, too far into the south.
And I don't think I can have a beer yet either.
even though the article says:
Speaking to AUTOSPORT on condition of anonymity...
??
they were wrong if they claimed it was in 16 days last summer
I don't care, you're having one! :) Shame you can't make it. I enjoy your ever-so-slightly depressed voicemails about BMW-Sauber! :D :D :D
Dieter wrote both articles and represents both publications. So anything said to him is akin to speaking to either.. isn't it?
It was only one to be fair....
Though about the equivalent length of 4
hmmm, it should be:
Speaking to Dieter Rencken on condition of anonymity...
shouldn't it?
That was the best voicemail I've ever heard, if only because Christine decided to cut it down because it sounded so depressing!!!! :D
Where's the Ski Cross gone?
I assume whoever he interviewed knew that it was for more than one publication
I think they've went for a quick cuppa before the finals
isn't that illegal?
Short break while the skiers get back to the top of the hill. Only small final then the proper final to go
Seems fine to me. They don't say 'exclusively'. Ask Joe about it.
ah, fair enough.
interesting that autosport haven't quite grasped the global nature of the internets yet.
Not exactly, under guardian ownership I'd have the same rights to buy him alcohol in a licensed venue as his parents would.
Is it illegal in a sidepodpub? If he is not allowed beer I am sure Bassano will get him a Vimto
can do :)
I think I'll be safe in this Newcastle place.
oh lord.
rg, stay up north, i may join you.
They're not allowed to have a break!!!
oh good lord... just say no R.G.. just say no!!
I'm more and more intrigued now.... are Bassano's Vimtos evil?!
Em!!!!!!!!!!
Visibility is really poor!
yes. i know from others experiences ;)
More cheeky than evil
Ah, cheeky Vimtos. Who wants to hear a bad joke?
OK!
Ski Cross final time!
Did you hear about the dyslexic alcoholic who choked on his own Vimto?
Snow looks heavy.
GOLD FOR CANADA! YAY!!!!
Woooooooooo!!
That was way tamer than the men's final
What happened to the girl in 4th?
i know its going to be a bad day when i get to work and find all my desk drawers open and my remote control missing. I dont mind people borrowing it when i am here but going through my things after I have gone home is a bit much. And they didnt put it back so now I cant watch the olympics :(
got stuck on the first rap collective
How come you have a TV??? Can you not just change the channel on the set itself?
Hey Amy, aww that's not nice. random question - you're a member of the mclaren fan club right?
Oops, my eyes are getting droopy. Time to head to bed! Thanks for the rapid conversation in the doohickey guys, night all!
Night TM
adios
See ya mate.
we have lots of tvs because its a tv company. Cant change the channel on the tv as it has to be done on the set top box and they are mounted near the ceiling. :( and yes lou, yes i am
time for me to go, going to try to get my head around the seemingly impossible sixth part of the hitchhiker's guide trilogy
Byeee
awesome. you can tell me (before i form an opinion on Mclaren...) whether being a member lets you see lots of team photographs of like races etc?
Night guys :D
Shout at them
When was that published?
Cheerio
Night all who are leaving
since they bought in the photo gallery in 2008 it has only been updated twice although they are apparently going to make it more of a feature this year. There are about 4 pics up from jerez, i can linky when i get home if you want to see the sort of pics they put up
ahhhhh okay. I was just hoping that the request i sent for their to be a gallery on their site (like most other teams had) would not be overlooked. I hope they don't see is as a bonus for members... if they do... then hmmmmmm. :)
Some days are just weird. Bassano discussing Werther's Originals with Olivia Munn on twitter is not something I thought I would ever see.
its 2.30am and my neighbours are now onto their 6th consecutive rendition of Always by Bon Jovi.
:( {Comment #340}
The song is good, but not in the middle of the night and not sung by antisocial neighbours. I feel bad for you...
I need a sidepodcast sticker for the back of my iPhone and one for the upas when I get it.
There is a cute girl sitting opposite me on the train wearing an ING Fernando Alonso shirt - she needs to know about SPC!
I thought about playing the start of a podcast out loud but the train is full so I've gone a bit shy
Play it
the iPhone still auto corrects ipad as 'upas' the first time I type it but not the second :-(
say out loud: "do you doohickey?"
The guys who make the Need for Speed games said my favourite tweet of the day today
http://twitter.com/NeedforSpeed/status/9538114576
Niiice :)
And on that note, night from me. lotsa love.
adios
hehe!
Wasn;t directed at SPc but still made me smile :)
Night RG
I got brave and played the start of the last F1 Debrief out loud but got no reaction - she is reading but glances up at me occasionally. No return smile yet.
Should I say doohickey as I cough into my hand like people on tv/movies do when they swear? :-)
To be fair, you sound like you're giving her the impression you're interested.... I know you're not but she probably doesn't :P
good man!
(although maybe pause before the tremayning)
:D hehehe or you could simply comment on her f1 attire and strike up a convo about f1? ;)
I know but Sidepodcast transcendends relationships right?
She got off before my stop. Boo!
no she didnt, she got off the train, walked back 2 carrages and got back on :P
bad times. although if she is a lurker, and sees these comments she will either be freaked out, or may join in..
Awwww
It's probably just me, but I'm very averse to random men trying to talk to me on trains.... I went into London once and this guy kept trying to buy me coffee from the trolley and in the end I just had to move. Encounters like that make me so uncomfortable. I'm sure you wouldn't do anything like that though :P
:D
Go up to her and tell her if she is interested in F1 she should listed to the podcast
a smile is about as far as I go :-)
I'm big on equality - a woman has to make the first move, but this really conflicts with my strong beliefs in honour and chivalry.
One of my favourite song lyrics goes something along the lines of:
chivalry is dead ladies - it's on the couch where you made us sleep
ramble over :-)
I now love curling. The King of Norway just did a Mexican wave.
heheh!
Way too complex and time consuming. I did question why it was so complex if it was not necessary."
he thinks he can do it better! {Comment #1056}
He probably could. And I say that despite having not much confidence in his management ability.
he officially approved their trousers, i heart him
He sounds completely batty - can he be our King?
i hope so
Time for sleep. Night everyone.
night lukeh
bye
