Today is Tuesday, and I can't quite believe that it's almost the end of February already. That's both scary, and also very cool. The season will soon be here and I can no longer moan about the countdowns. It's close enough that counting down to the season is acceptable. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • This week's F1 Debrief is all up and ready for you to listen to. We discuss plenty of news from the past week and gather a lot of lovely feedback as well. If you're keen on the outtakes, I posted a couple on the daily post yesterday, and am pointing them out here as well: Mr C can't speak and Christine can't speak.
  • I also updated Christine's Rankings yesterday, in which Heikki Kovalainen got the most points. Unfortunately for him, they weren't all in the right direction. There are also notes on the Virgin Racing drivers, plus Webber gets his first (minus) points as well.
  • It looks as though Stefan GP have postponed and/or cancelled the test of their new car in Portimao. Apparently the downfall is the lack of tyres, which is down to Bridgestone. The tyre supplier aren't allowed to give them F1 tyres, and couldn't get GP2 replacements in time, so for now, the Stefan test is off.

That's all for now. Don't forget to vote on the latest part of Life in the Fast Lane. We're getting towards the end of the story now, so each vote is more and more important! I will see you in the comments.

i didn't manage to get this done in time to make the daily, but html5 video tags have also been added to the site. this means embedded videos should be viewable on the iphone/android directly from the page.

    http://sidepodcast.com/video/

still testing, yell if you spot anything odd. live show replays are currently not included as the length of them seems to give the iphone a headache.

well, I leave the 'real' world for the darkness of the lab for a week and one team folds out, another almost, and the certain debut of an Argentinian in the F1 is not so certain any more. I should stop going to the lab...

That is a problem I found with the old version. I hope the new one is better. Another problem is the lack of a main feed - you've got the 'leader cam' and lots of onboards (and they've made the viewscreen bigger this year I think) but not the tv feed. Still very impressive, especially the timing stuff they've added.

one more thing has just come to my attention via a tweet from F1B, and Ferrari's PR person is complaining again:

    http://www.ferrari.com/English/News/Pages/100222_GR_Per_chi_suona_la_campana.aspx

The thirteenth team, USF1, appears to have gone into hiding in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the dismay of those like the Argentinian, Lopez, who thought he had found his way into the Formula 1 paddock, (albeit with help from chairwoman Kirchner, according to the rumours) and now has to start all over again. Amazingly, they still have the impudence to claim that everything is hunky-dory under the starry stripy sky.

Next, we have the Serbian vultures. Firstly, they launched themselves into a quixotic legal battle with the FIA, then they picked the bones of Toyota on its death bed. Having got some people on board, around whom there was still a whiff of past scandals, they are now hovering around waiting to replace whoever is first to drop out of the game, possibly with backing from that very same knight in shining armour whom we mentioned earlier.

This is the legacy of the holy war waged by the former FIA president.

In some ways they make some valid points, but it probably isn't becoming of a title-fighting team to be making such comments.. If McLaren or any other team tried it there would be trouble, I'm sure.

I dont think its outdated at all, If you know you can buy a copy of a film immediately you would probably stop going to the cinema for most films.

The cinemas would go bust and there would be no cinemas to watch films that you want to get the big screen experience.

The people who would ultimatly lose are the people who cant afford expensive home entertainment systems, as they would loose the chance for a cinematic experience compeltey

  • RubberGoat23/02/2010 at 08:22

I dont think its outdated at all, If you know you can buy a copy of a film immediately you would probably stop going to the cinema for most films.

But who waits 17 weeks (4 months) to see a film they want to see? That's a long time to wait!

The cinemas would go bust and there would be no cinemas to watch films that you want to get the big screen experience.

Cinemas are already going bust due to the exorbitant prices and the fact that most people just prefer to save their money and stay at home. It's very expensive to take the family out and buy them popcorn vs. staying at home...

The people who would ultimatly lose are the people who cant afford expensive home entertainment systems, as they would loose the chance for a cinematic experience compeltey

If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket?

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:28

I dont think its outdated at all, If you know you can buy a copy of a film immediately you would probably stop going to the cinema for most films.

The point isn't immediately anyway. the point is that there is dead time between the film going off at the cinema and being available to buy. For example A serious man was at the Cinema at the end of last year. But is now not in the Cinemas anywhere and not yet out on DVD. How does that help anyone?

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 08:28

If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket?

Going by the prices here: (currency isnt important)

    Big screen TV 1,500

    Hometheatre system 850

Total 2,350 + 80 for each DVD purchased (new releases)

Cost of Cinema: Adult 40 Child 25 (new release)

Family of four pays 130 to see the film.

    Its much cheaper!

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:29

Family of four pays 130 to see the film.

    130 > 80 per DVD?

And these people don't watch tv either?

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 08:31

I see what you mean, but i think the scarceity helps the cinema, if you know its not going to be coming out for a while you might be tempted to go again.

I am keen to see Avatar again (if i get a spare evening) because i know its going to be a long time before i will be able to buy and view it on a 3D tv.

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:32

I am keen to see Avatar again (if i get a spare evening) because i know its going to be a long time before i will be able to buy and view it on a 3D tv.

Avatar is a bit of an exception and I think points to the new direction cinema will take. Interestingly though Alice in Wonderland (the movie the boycott is about) is also in 3D

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 08:32

    130 > 80 per DVD?

Assuming you go to the cinema once a month on average, you save 50 per film, to pay off the 2350, thats 47 months, or nearly 4 years!

And these people don't watch tv either?

I did think of that, but lets asume they have a regular tv

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 08:34

Avatar is a bit of an exception and I think points to the new direction cinema will take. Interestingly though Alice in Wonderland (the movie the boycott is about) is also in 3D

I think the main concern over this is not if it is 12 weeks or 17, but how it slides in the future. 12 weeks would probably be fine, but once it starts sliding it might be tricky to stop,

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:35

And these people don't watch tv either?

Say a regular tv is 1,000 instead of 1,500. They already have to buy a regular tv so I say the difference between the regular tv and the home cinema is (1500 + 850) - 1000 = 1,350. The difference between the DVD and the Cinema ticket is 50. So 1,350 / 50 = 27. If you watch 27 movies in the lifetime of your tv it is the same price. More than that in the lifetime of your tv and you are saving money with a home cinema.

  • F1Wolf23/02/2010 at 08:36

The point isn't immediately anyway. the point is that there is dead time between the film going off at the cinema and being available to buy. For example A serious man was at the Cinema at the end of last year. But is now not in the Cinemas anywhere and not yet out on DVD. How does that help anyone?

here in Hong Kong the piracy issues shortened the time between cinemas and DVD releases significantly. I went to watch one pretty good local movie to cinema barely 3 weeks ago (and it was still near the top of the box office reeipts at that time). It has been out on DVD for 2 weeks now ...

It may be good to drive out the pirates but I tell you I felt a bit cheated after forking out 200 (currency does not matter :-) ) for tickets when I realized I could have spent 15 and rent it a week later ...

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:37

Assuming you go to the cinema once a month on average, you save 50 per film, to pay off the 2350, thats 47 months, or nearly 4 years!

How often do they plan on replacing this expensive home cinema. If it's longer than 4 years then it's still worth it even with that maths.

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:38

I totally agree. I can see why Odeon want to stop it. But I'm telling you they are going out of business either way. It won't be long before the movies will be released in all formats on the same day world wide.

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 08:40

And I like the cinema :) I just can see it going that way. Fewer multiplexes showing anything and everything and more 1 or 2 screen places showing special exhibition films or big event movies.

  • RubberGoat23/02/2010 at 08:46

If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket?

Going by the prices here: (currency isnt important)

    Big screen TV 1,500

    Hometheatre system 850

Total 2,350 + 80 for each DVD purchased (new releases)

Cost of Cinema: Adult 40 Child 25 (new release)

Family of four pays 130 to see the film.

    Its much cheaper!

Nick, The Home Theatre would probably be paid off on an HP or Finance deal of some sort. If they paid it off at £20 a week (for example over two years or something) and rented or bought a DVD each week it would be cheaper.

And there are much cheaper systems out there than that - My 32" TV only cost £400 and my Home Theatre system was about the same!

  • RubberGoat23/02/2010 at 08:48

And these people don't watch tv either?

Say a regular tv is 1,000 instead of 1,500. They already have to buy a regular tv so I say the difference between the regular tv and the home cinema is (1500 + 850) - 1000 = 1,350. The difference between the DVD and the Cinema ticket is 50. So 1,350 / 50 = 27. If you watch 27 movies in the lifetime of your tv it is the same price. More than that in the lifetime of your tv and you are saving money with a home cinema.

Exactly - a TV last between 2,00 hours (projector) to about 10,000 hours (LCD).

So if we are going to misuse numbers like Nick has, assuming a family of low income will spend £2350 on a Home Theatre and they buy an LCD, that's 5,000 2 hour movies, or 50p a movie ;)

  • Maverick23/02/2010 at 08:49

that's been happening for a long time though

I don't think they'll all go out of business though, just less multiplex's are sustainable - their is always the "night out" factor to keep plenty going

but they need a rethink on strategy - who wants to sit on some grotty uncomfortable seat when the alternative is a comfortable sofa?

  • F1Wolf23/02/2010 at 08:59

I get annoyed when I go to the theatre...

There is this one Japanese skin care brand (totally useless ovepriced products IMHO) that books 90% of ad time before the movies here, no matter what cinema. I get to hear their line "Less is more" for 20 times before the movie begins. And they only have 2 clips they do not beven other to alternate :-)

That's the least of my issues.

You have to find a parking space, go to the machine to buy your ticket, queue up for your glasses, queue up for the candy, queue up to take your seat, move 100 times so that other people can get to their seats, put up with 30 minutes of ads and trailers, get annoyed at all the people talking, kicking your seat and hitting your head when they go to the loo, queue up to leave the theatre, sit in a traffic jam to leave the parking complex...

  • F1Wolf23/02/2010 at 09:03

we have cinema here, actually it is a normal multiplex, but they have one room/theater called Director's Club. Only for 20 people = 10 couples. 10 double seater comfy plush sofas, small otomans (so one can put the feet up), small coffee table. coffee/tea/drinks/hot dog included. costs double price of regular ticket though

The US often milks the couples on the back row thing by having rather more private double seats at the back

well I guess it is a bit different over here. all the major cinemas are on top of the subway stations (cars are not en-vogue here unless it is Rolls or Bentley or Ferrari or Porsche :-) ), tickets are bought in advance over internet. the only problem are those people coming late and well, that annoying "Less is more" ...

Gavin, who's this Michael Griffin idiot?

Is this referring to the twitter conversation last night? To be honest I am not entirely sure. He runs some F1 blog and I think I found him randomly as he's an F1 fan. He's calling you out for some article about safety which he accuses you of plagiarising, yet he has no copy of it, the site it ran on does not exist and he couldn't recall the name of the site (he thinks it was called uberF1).

What is interesting is that he complained a few weeks ago that he was booted out of another F1 site for being falsely accused of plagiarising an article.

Frankly I'm not sure what is going on and I tried to tread lightly so as not to cause an argument...

  • Maverick23/02/2010 at 09:14

...yet he has no copy of it, the site it ran on does not exist and he couldn't recall the name of the site (he thinks it was called uberF1).

    Is he deranged?

He uses GMM - I think it's a damned cheek to accuse other people of copying when you rely on GMM for your site's news output

  • Alex Andronov23/02/2010 at 09:18

You can accuse me of misusing numbers all you like.

Indeed I don't think you did at all. And of course my maths may prove that it is cheaper to buy your own home cinema but we always have to remember that consumers are not rational...

I mean just look at that Toyota you want to buy ;)

Me too. Zoe keeps wanting to 'go out' which makes me a little cranky but then I have a good time when we go. Avatar 3D was amazing! Law abiding Citizen was good too.

  • Jeremy23/02/2010 at 10:24

Blu-Ray is amazing too. $2500 AUD for 50 inch Full HD plasma and $600 AUD for PS3 with PlayTV which gives me games (meh), Blu-Ray and PVR. Blu-Ray movies are about $30, most DVDs are $15 - $20

Do I need to count the entertainment unit I had to buy to put it on to keep Zoe happy?

My Uncle's Neighbour built his house and built a dedicated Home Theatre room.

Trouble was, that and the Outdoor Sound System completely blew his budget and he had to sell his house at a loss. He had little furniture and no lawn for almost a year after it was built...

With the Winter Olympics I barely have time for one race a week on iRacing...

or.... you could wait 2 weeks for the crowds to disappear, leaving yourself more elbow room and the pick of the best seats (in line with screen and dead centre for the surround effect). and we only have 15 mins of ads/previews.. and we go at night when there's no traffic..

  • Jeremy23/02/2010 at 10:38

deciding to paint the stefan all red probably didn't help matters!

the small teams won't allow stefan and nor will ferrari, and I don't think they're that popular with the FIA either

they better hope that they can buy USF1 and then find a sponsor beginning with U if FOTA won't let them change the team name

I think its good in a way, i didnt see the sense of bringing in so many new teams at once.

it would have been far more sensible to add 3 teams 1 a year for 3 years than suddenly getting 3 to fight for sponsors/investors.

At least this way they can do a proper review of applicants again and hopefully we will get a serious operation

    Odeon are going to boycott showing Alice In Wonderland because Disney is trying to reduce the amount of time cinemas get to exclusively have the movie down from 17 to 12 weeks. Disney point out that often the movies stop showing after 12 weeks and then there is no legitimate way to watch the movie and in that interim is where a lot of piracy happens. But Odeon want to protect their outmoded business model: {Comment #49}

To be fair, there are some movies where Odeon has used the whole 17-week window; notably the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Mamma Mia! I think its implied argument is that if Disney wants its films to be seen in the interim, it should make its movies good enough to be seen at the cinema that many weeks after. It doesn't help that a film producer broke the rule a few years back for Night at the Museum to catch the Easter market, so it was already a sore subject for Odeon.

Besides, its business model is not outmoded. Rather, it is modelled on movie-going as a special experience rather than as something that casually fits between surfing the internet and watching a soap. Both should be compatible with one another.

we have cinema here, actually it is a normal multiplex, but they have one room/theater called Director's Club. Only for 20 people = 10 couples.

I love those. Went to one in Toronto once.

Much as I delight in the big screen experience and sound of the cinema, the behaviour of other patrons often causes me to chafe. Mrs C and I went to see the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and the whole thing was nearly derailed by the presence of an unruly teenage girl who spent the entire performance burbing, cackling and talking to her mate, undisciplined by the adult who was present.

We have a 40in flat screen at home and often run the sound through the hi-fi, but the only fly in this home cinema ointment is that the sound is rather too good – gunfights, etc, utterly terrify the cats...

  • Stuart C23/02/2010 at 11:59

how stupid can one person be? how can you lash out at gmm, and then spend all afternoon copying and pasting their content??

Nail duly bashed upon the bonce, Mr C...

Play 'Under The Influence' through your Subwoofer and watch the cats run!

Thing is, they get used to it a bit as they get older and lazier. On my DVD player, the tray always takes 5 seconds after you push the eject button to release, but it must have been making noises because my cat was there in a flash staring it down!

    If they can't afford a home theatre system (which there are very reasonable prices for a flat screen and a home theatre unit these days), how are they going to be able to afford a Movie ticket? {Comment #66}

Extremely easily. Movie tickets for adults where I live are between £5-£7, except on Tuesdays where it's £4.80 for everyone. At that point, three of us going out is almost as cheap as getting the DVD... ...plus we don't have to fork out £200-£300 on a good TV screen, the same again on quality speakers or worry if someone will interrupt us (you might be able to pause movies, but keeping the appropriate atmosphere under those circumstances is pretty trying, especially if the interruption has nothing to do with the movie's content). The prices might be reasonable for a middle-class family expecting to get lots of use out of the system, but for working-class families accustomed to second-hand well-under-£100 TVs it is an impossible expense.

Unless you see lots of movies in a year, or use your home entertainment system for purposes other than watching movies (admittedly quite common for people who also use the same system to access cable, satellite and/or computer-based entertainment), it's considerably more economical to go to the cinema than attempt to replicate the experience or anything approaching that at home. Granted, there are some genres of film (such as chick-flicks) where the very best sound and graphics are irrelevant because they're 95% plot- and/or character-driven, but the films best suited to the cinematic experience (generally the big-budget ones - which are also frequently the ones most pirated) really have to be seen at the cinema to be fully appreciated.

As an aside, me and my family frequently take food into the cinema. According to the rules of the particular chain in our town, this is fine so long as we don't disturb anyone and the food from outside isn't eaten in the food court itself (where food is openly prepared and would therefore generate a hygiene issue). Obviously other chains are considerably stricter on the point and we behave accordingly on the (very rare) occasions we travel further afield.

  • Jon Waldock23/02/2010 at 12:11

how stupid can one person be? how can you lash out at gmm, and then spend all afternoon copying and pasting their content??

    oooh thats annoyed me.

  • Alianora La Canta23/02/2010 at 12:16

    The point isn't immediately anyway. the point is that there is dead time between the film going off at the cinema and being available to buy. For example A serious man was at the Cinema at the end of last year. But is now not in the Cinemas anywhere and not yet out on DVD. How does that help anyone? {Comment #67}

There isn't. There is an easy solution though.

Simply add a clause to the contract saying that if none of the major chains in a given country (defined by % of trade in the previous 12 months, with perhaps 3% as the threshold) are showing a given movie, that the film producer is permitted to launch the DVD early in that country. At that point, the "second-showing" cinemas would also be permitted to show the film (such places do exist, one at Sheffield University, and I'm sure they'd appreciate being able to screen films others saw no merit in earlier because it boosts their attractiveness). Since cinemas wouldn't stop showing a movie early if it was making them any significant money, no major cinema chain should be in a position to object to such a clause.

Perhaps a small amount more money would smooth the way for the smaller chains, especially since the majority of films don't get the full 17-week entitlement at the small chains either.

I can see a market for that - especially if some chains introduce an "Assistant Director's Club" for more people (maybe 20 couples) on reasonably comfy sofas and coffee tables for a price between the standard and "Director's Club" prices.

The other thing is, there is always cross-pollination in blogging - loads of people write articles that are similar. I think it's a great thing - because if we are investigating something and independently come to the same conclusions, it re-inforces our point.

If it's an op-ed then you get to gauge the feeling on the subject. So we all win!

  • Alianora La Canta23/02/2010 at 12:32

    I buy my tickets on the net as I refuse to go unless I get a good seat. I still have to print them at the cinema though... {Comment #92}

This is one reason I avoid going to the cinema to see a film that was released fewer than 2 weeks ago. The queues are horrendous and the telephone pre-booking service is so heavily automated that nobody in my family can use it. (Nobody else can use it either, judging by the fact my local cinema branch removed the printing machine and now expects pre-bookers to collect their ticket in the same queue as everyone else).

However, go 3-4 weeks after the film is released and it's possible to just stroll up to the cashiers and buy tickets. If it's in the evening, there may be one or two people doing the same thing, but it will be literally one or two.

Good seats are guaranteed unless you turn up late and a pair of earplugs block out the worst of the boring adverts (as well as lighting the cinema well enough that I can read the cinema brochure!). In my student days, I used to bring books in to get through the adverts and sometimes meals - my cinema-loving friend was quite puzzled when she saw me reading "Flat Out, Flat Broke" while waiting for "Happy Feet" to appear, and both of us had a cheesecake while waiting for "Music and Lyrics".

James A published his own book and it seems to have done well (although it's impossible to know for sure - unless he never does one again).

There isn't much money in books about motor racing. The advances are quite small (if you get one at all) and it's such a niche market that you're unlikely to sell enough copies to get much in the way of royalties. Since my publisher is in the US my royalty cheques will be in dollars, so my only ambition in that regard is for the amounts in question to be high enough for there to actually be some left over once the bank has trousered its £10 charge!

  • Webby23/02/2010 at 13:32

Me and my dad always have a giggle when his royalties cheques come through for his book. Unless you have a Harry Potter-esq success, theres not a great deal of money in book writing

Subject to their signing the Concorde Agreement, BMW Sauber will be awarded the 13th entry in the Championship, taking the place of the departing Toyota team."

so it's official as far as the FIA is concerned, list or no list, so it's seems a bit pedantic not to include them - bridgestone are supplying them with tyres when they won't give any to stefan, after all.

  • Bassano23/02/2010 at 16:29

I always found New Order's Blue Monday worked best - it's just something about the drum on it that really makes the walls rattle

  • Bassano23/02/2010 at 16:30

    Ive ordered Jame's Book...

    Mr Allen's?

  • RG23/02/2010 at 16:31

i don't think they're clues for us. just stuart proving he knows scoopy?

He says he has 4 times more followers on his f1scoop account than his actual one..

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be any journalist on there with about 600 followers, unless Ari Vatenen is behind it all

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 16:31

    The so called 'Collector's Item'?

Its gonna be like F1 pokemon!

  • Bassano23/02/2010 at 16:31

  • Maverick23/02/2010 at 16:32

He says he has 4 times more followers on his f1scoop account than his actual one..

surely not that easy, that'd be a dead giveaway if we can find someone with 600 followers

  • Bassano23/02/2010 at 16:32

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be any journalist on there with about 600 followers, unless Ari Vatenen is behind it all

    Thinking of coming to visit?

  • Maverick23/02/2010 at 16:34

gpweek is a competitor to gp+ too, so maybe some frustration there?

right looking at train times i can realistically get the train to london that will get me into Charing Cross just before 6. However if i miss that one there is a train that will get me there for 6:25. either way plenty of time to get to Oxford Circus and get to the venue. I may end up eating something on train.. will depend if i remember to make something i think.

Did h have a go at Jackie for something?

accused her of copying his blog article because they had slightly similar titles but he didn't actually have a copy and it was on a website that no longer exists and he which was no longer sure about the name of either so who knows how she managed to copy it

the irony is that looking through his blog his articles look to have been lifted from elsewhere anyway

not only that, but he made a crack about GMM and when we raised the fact that the site is a co-owner of uses GMM he had a bit of a paddy

http://twitter...aF1/status/9518522975 sums it up kinda well.. but reading back on tweets and comments gives a better picture :)

He runs a GMM site and is accusing someone else of plagiarism? What kind of moron thinks that paying someone to steal someone else's work is OK but objects when he thinks someone else steals his work? Clearly Jackie's article is not emotely his article re-hashed. It simply happens to be on safety and the basic facts of the safety of F1 are set.

    Jackie,

If you are reading this don't let that moron put you off blogging.

  • Nick in Dubai23/02/2010 at 18:27

Who the jinkies is Mike Griffin?

Another "Mad Chris" judging by today's events...

  • Bassano23/02/2010 at 19:01

I think they do everything in one day from qualifying to races to the final

Seems so, it's first time in the Olympics

    Guess they underestimated it's appeal

  • Steven Roy23/02/2010 at 19:02

    Nick bullies me :(

You can't have that. Kick him out. At least you are getting a free book

    NICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems so, it's first time in the Olympics

    Guess they underestimated it's appeal

To me it is crazy. They should run the qualifiers one day and use that as a trailer for the quarters etc the final day. That way they would get a far bigger audience

  • me23/02/2010 at 19:03

Another "Mad Chris" judging by today's events...

Who the jinkies is Mike Griffin?

He is delusional. Thinks he has written a book, a film script, thinks he is a journalist worth an award etc etc but his website runs GMM. Who is going to hire a journalist who runs plagiarised stories. He is a moron

I would have liked to but it's my birthday and I had already agreed with my friends to go out with them. I'm looking forward to the evening, I've been told to be ready by 7pm and to wear pink but I know nothing else.

Hopefully, I'll get to see Joe another time, I'm definitely hoping to make a Sidepod meetup soon but can't make March 17th :(

Kings Cross and St Pancras are 2 different stations a few hundred yards from each other. One goes to Europe and partway north, the other goes up the East Coast Main Line. Kings Cross St Pancras tube station links the 2 together.

We did work out how I got lost on the Strand.... Someone had turned a signpost around so I went left out the station instead of right. Luckily my instincts made me turn around as where I was walking looked distinctly dodgy.

Not just that but he thinks it is the 60s when some team bosses made their name by not putting anything on the car until they gave it the once over. You can't do that that now, there are too many parts and most of them are specialised. The key to F1 now is to delegate to top-line lieutenants.

since they bought in the photo gallery in 2008 it has only been updated twice although they are apparently going to make it more of a feature this year. There are about 4 pics up from jerez, i can linky when i get home if you want to see the sort of pics they put up

ahhhhh okay. I was just hoping that the request i sent for their to be a gallery on their site (like most other teams had) would not be overlooked. I hope they don't see is as a bonus for members... if they do... then hmmmmmm. :)

  • Steven Roy23/02/2010 at 22:53

Some days are just weird. Bassano discussing Werther's Originals with Olivia Munn on twitter is not something I thought I would ever see.

  • Alianora La Canta23/02/2010 at 22:55

its 2.30am and my neighbours are now onto their 6th consecutive rendition of Always by Bon Jovi.

    :( {Comment #340}

The song is good, but not in the middle of the night and not sung by antisocial neighbours. I feel bad for you...

I need a sidepodcast sticker for the back of my iPhone and one for the upas when I get it.

There is a cute girl sitting opposite me on the train wearing an ING Fernando Alonso shirt - she needs to know about SPC!

I thought about playing the start of a podcast out loud but the train is full so I've gone a bit shy

I got brave and played the start of the last F1 Debrief out loud but got no reaction - she is reading but glances up at me occasionally. No return smile yet.

Should I say doohickey as I cough into my hand like people on tv/movies do when they swear? :-)

To be fair, you sound like you're giving her the impression you're interested.... I know you're not but she probably doesn't :P

    Awwww

It's probably just me, but I'm very averse to random men trying to talk to me on trains.... I went into London once and this guy kept trying to buy me coffee from the trolley and in the end I just had to move. Encounters like that make me so uncomfortable. I'm sure you wouldn't do anything like that though :P

a smile is about as far as I go :-)

I'm big on equality - a woman has to make the first move, but this really conflicts with my strong beliefs in honour and chivalry.

One of my favourite song lyrics goes something along the lines of:

chivalry is dead ladies - it's on the couch where you made us sleep

    ramble over :-)
