So, after my predictions of a fun-filled week, it was a quiet Monday to get us started. However, that just means there's all the more to enjoy today. Topics we're talking about at the moment, include:
- The BBC's press conference, scheduled to discuss all things F1. We've already had plenty of information recently about what to expect from the coverage, plus an early look at the schedules. How much new information we'll get today remains to be seen, but no doubt it's going to be good.
- The USF1 announcement is also scheduled for today, and once again, we don't know exactly what we're expecting from them. Most likely it will be a confirmation of their plans, and some optimism about what the future holds. All things that Formula 1 needs at the moment.
- There's talk that there may be some Honda news as well, but as that has been put off so many times already, I refuse to be drawn into any more speculation just yet.
- Finally, this picture has made it's way into the comments a couple of times now, but every time I see it, it makes me smile. If you've missed it, or just need an excuse for some cuteness, check out the upside down panda.
There's also a Sidepodchat for you to enjoy as well, which is over an hour of good discussion, so that should keep you busy for a bit. Meanwhile, I will see you in the comments.
peter windsor on speedtv's wind tunnel yesterday:
Just checking out USF1's web page with the countdown thingy on it. My first check had the clock at 11 minutes to go until launch. Checked it sometime later and it had reset to 45 minutes to go until launch...Aaaah, gotta love them teething problems.
So wait - they're announcing it a 12 midnight? I thought it was 12 noon!
Ah, I see the problem now. The timer won't work anymore if you're not in the EST timezone, since it looks at your local clock. It will just reset to 1 hour remaining every top of the hour.
Actually, ignore my last sentence. It reset to 1 hour the first time it went to zero, but then it didn't repeat that the 2nd time it happened.
Still no mention of the SPC Mario Kart Wii tourney? Could you please put a link in tomorrow's post so that people can sign up?
I am always envious of his 1/18 model collection.
I wish they would post the second part of this interview, it had some amazing stuff in it about how they are they are going to be fan friendly.
PW is very big on this.
He hasn't offered me a job yet, though.
Wonder what went on down at Snetterton? Or if it's still going on?
That area of Carolina is actually very nice. If he offers you something, the Carolina BBQ alone would make it worth the interview trip.
Sorry, I think I missed the conversation on this. Will do tonight. How many people do you need?
Why on SpeedTV do they wear massive headphones and have microphones in front of them when they're sat about a metre away from each other?
1. To talk to their pitlane crew - it can be hard to hear them through the engine noise.
2. To look cool!
Lee McKenzie has posted this on Twitter regarding the BBC F1 coverage:
"Every time an F1 car is on track, you will be able to watch it on the BBC whether it be through the Red Button or on BBC Sport website."
YAY! :D
renault pit stop training... inside the factory:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/renault-f1-pitstop-training-jpg
There's going to be a lot of front wing changes this year, so good stuff from Renault...
Hmm... I would say between 8-12. I think we have 4-5 at the moment. At this stage I just want to gauge interest to see how many are keen before we make any arrangements...
Has the 1986 BATracer thingy been cancelled?
No, it's still on but no-one's signed up in a while.
can you not start without a full grid?
Well it's dropped out of my private games list?
We can, bit I don't feel it's fair for those people who are on their own in a team at the moment to have to go to alone while other teams have 2 cars.
fair enough.
We may have to consolidate some teams then...
Soooo...
What time is USF1 announcing a partnership with Brackley today?
12 past never? Or thereabouts.
Morning all
Do any of you ever listen to the Formula1Blog.com podcast? It's alright, gave it a first listen last night. Did think it was Christine and Mr C but with American accents.....Man did they rant about how bad Nascar was
Gawd... there's a lot of rehashing of F1 news stories today! I seem to keep seeing the same ones again and again...
Yep, just about. We should have a nice bet with Gavin on this one. ;)
:D
I have listened to it before... it's good, but for some reason, I've never felt compelled to listen to it regularly.
Seriously though, 12pm in which timezone?
found one!
http://tinyurl.com/canihaveonepls
sidepodcast needs one of these. it's epic apparently.
Want.
The countdown currently says 1hr 23.
:)
is gmail down?
I listened to an American one where they annoying mispronounced the names of the drivers and then suggested Lewis Hamilton would get fired from Mclaren. I stopped listening to it at that point... Can't remember which one it was though?
It is for me.
I think it's about 5pm GMT
OK then... I bet 12pm CET ;-)
downforeveryoneorjustme.com lied then.
Yup: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=gmail+down
ARMAGEDDON!
could be a uk outage?
Why train in t-shirts? They risk being a smooth, mean pit stop machine until they get into Renault's clown suits. Actually, I think I just answered my own question.
omg!
They seem to really know their stuff considering how far away they from the action etc but I do feel they're a little behind in news or maybe that's the curse of a weekly podcast. Worth a listen though every now and again
Can't have been the same podcast then.
Anyone here listen to Midweek Motorspor from Radio Le Mans? It's excellent!
Scrolling down from the countdown...
"We will be officially announcing the team in a special show on Speed TV on February 24 at 12:00 EST"
we were live commenting it last week :)
Were you? I missed that one!
I do chuckle when they pronounce Renault - RenO
probably listen live this week too. it's on the same time as pitlanefanatic's quiz.
i think they're taking live updates from twitter too.
That's right... I was doing a 3hr stint on Wii Fit last Wednesday :-)
If you write in they normally read out your letters too ...
whaddayamean you can't live comment whilst doing that?
Apparently thats 1700 GMT...
It's hard enough to do the exercises without you guys mocking me via the doohickey! :-D
we like to think of it as encouragement :D
Sidepodsledging?
sidepodslalom
I meant 'sledging' as in 'mocking' :-)
??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sledging_(cricket)
We have BBC F1 details: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7755219.stm
Sounds good. Let's hope we can watch it online...
Mr C, should the links be opening after just a single right-click? They didn't do that before.
no mention of maurice hamilton?
"a diary-type F1 mole"
so, that would be joe saward's f1 mole, or a second mole?
Disappointing that there is still no news on GP2 and the other support races as well?
BTW, why does Brazil have a weird schedule? Is it because it'll be run during primetime hours?
Think this answers your request:
"The BBC Sport website will carry live all BBC One, BBC Two and red button coverage of F1. "
;)
agreed. also, one in car camera and an interactive forum isn't much to get excited about.
live timing we already have. is there anything else exciting in there?
I still think there should be an option to turn off the commentary and just let the race sounds run without anything on top, like a "non-commentary" option.
Ahem. Outside of the UK?
No GP2? :-(
Well for me it is. As much as I love technology and the Internet, the prospect of watching a race and then getting distracted looking at live timings on a laptop etc never really appealed to me.
Having it on offer, next to the action on a large screen does.
it says in-car cameraS.
and besides, what BBC will offer is already TONS better than what ITV ever showed. c'mon, cut them some slack. ;)
They'll have it, but this is an F1 article. They'll have the GP2 coverage too, I'd think. We'll find out what channel soon enough.
"an in-car camera feed"
to me that says one at a time?
fair enough. to me that's less customisation. i can't move it around on screen and i can't fit it beside live comments.
True, but hey, still better than anything ITV ever offered.
Anything similar to hotshield exist if they don't?
I tried (feebly) to find a VPN or Proxy server last season but didn't need to in the end as SidePodcast provided an alternative
true. but that wasn't my benchmark. being better than itv isn't difficult.
true, but we can't have everything. ;)
BBC are hot on stopping folk from watching outside the UK. Proxies or non proxies. I reckon it'll be a bit of a mammoth task compared to ITV's woeful attempt last year.
Just Google it, there's lots of material on how to watch from outside the UK.
i'm not sure anyone managed to stream radio5live reliably last year did they?
Most people are just interested in hacking the TV, I guess. Besides, the 5live feed is tricky, since it only restricts the feed at certain events.
And this is where I go against the grain: I don't agree that anyone outside the UK should have access to be able to view something which I have paid for - more so if that online service deteriorates as a result of too many people leeching off it.
interesting point. hadn't thought of it that way.
I guess it depends how you see it. To me, the licence fee is a tax from the government, another way of extorting money from us. There's no way my £11 a month has any bearing on what the BBC get up to.
On race day, viewers will be able to choose from three different video streams:
"the main network feed with a choice of commentary from BBC One and BBC Radio 5 Live; a split screen comprising the main network feed; an in-car camera feed and leaderboard; rolling highlights."
Err... doesn't that equal 4?
So where does your £140 a year go to then? The £40m the BBC are paying for the rights to show F1 has to come from somewhere?
isn't it:
1) main feed
2) main + in car camera + leaderboard
3) rolling highlights
I guess it's the same as Premiere has: http://www.premiere.de/premweb/cms/de/programm_sport_sport1klasse_perspektiven.jsp
ahhh, nice one. that seems likely.
It may go some way towards it. Personally, I don't see that it gives me ownership of the BBC. I completely understand why others do though.
For once i'm glad that something that I pay for will actually show me something i'm interested in. The BBC is an over inflated dinosaur, a relic of the 20th century. Begrudingly I pay my licence fee to recieve a 'tv signal' (TV licence people say you pay for the reciving of a tv 'signal'...not that I buy into that for one moment). They need to bin off these hundreds of other channels, stations, online content etc or provide a pay for what you use service. Why should i get fleeced to pay for BBC Wales (all in welsh), BBC Asian etc when I can't even speak the language they're broadcast in etc
by the looks of it, that's 5 different screen options. in which case the bbc are underselling their pitch.
The BBC has announced that it will broadcast all Formula One sessions - including free practice – both on television and online this year.
Confirming details of its plans for 2009, the return of F1 to the BBC is being used as an opportunity for the corporation to step up coverage of the sport.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the BBC said that the races and all qualifying sessions other than Brazil will be broadcast on BBC One. For Interlagos, BBC Two will show the fight for grid positions on the Saturday.
Practice sessions will be available via the 'red button' interactive service, or can be watched through the BBC's website.
The BBC has also promised to allow fans to customize their viewing experience – with the choice of three different video streams. There will also be options for split-screen action; a live leaderboard; in-car cameras and a choice of commentary
Makes sense, I'm blaming a rogue semicolon...
You answered that in your opening sentence:
The Welsh and others are probably interested in those, much like you're interested in F1?
:D
Anyway we can record the online practice sessions or red button coverage? Managed to get all the races/qualifying from last year but no practice sessions :-(
totally.
rcc the bbc isn't your own personal television channel!
next year, why not refuse to pay your licence fee and try making your own shows? see how far that £100 stretches.
Yr missing my point, I feel we're being over fleeced to pay for many additional channels when the BBC was original set up with a couple and a few radio stations, now it seems to of expanded into an all encompassing media provider for the wider world. Being British we naturally pay over the odds for everything but what i'm saying in this instance is we're paying for far too much. Of course there's no way on earth I could provide myself with entertainment for a £100 a year!! I'm not that stupid to think so.
yup, the world changed. it happens.
sorry, i disagree.
i'd pay double what i'm currently paying the bbc.
Shhh :)
:)
if i live to be 100, i'll never be able to pay them what planet earth was worth to me, and that's just one programme. the f1 coverage could be more exciting, but i bet bernie is mostly to blame for that anyhow.
That's called Sky tv isn't it???
Give it another 5 years and we'll be paying double anyway!!
And you haven't even mentioned Top Gear yet...
agreed. although i gave up watching the last series. but, yeah, quality content. priceless in some cases.
I'm not sure we have forgiven them yet, for messing up our schedule.
Thank you for your point of view Mr. High-and-mighty. I suppose you've never downloaded an MP3 or movie either?
I'm not paying a licence fee as I don't live in the UK. If an online subscription to see F1 in English was available, I'd happily pay for it. Until then, I unfortunately have to watch F1 in Danish (bad) or with a crappy webstream. I pay a licence fee in Denmark so my money still goes to FOM.
meh, it wasn't just that.
i mean in future we wouldn't ever work around them again, but i could've caught on iplayer in the meantime, but it all got a bit samey and i've not been bothered too.
an mp3 movie?
:D
"In a world, where people downloaded music... only one man could stop them:
MP3: THE MOVIE!!!"
Planet Earth on Blue Ray is incredible
See when the Beeb put their minds to it they make without doubt the very best factual programs. Horizon, Wildlife on 1 etc. Just less of the dross! ie celebrity dancing. The BBC could be a accused of dumbing it's programming down over recent years. Yes the licence fee in the scale of things is quite realitvely cheap but I dislike the way they we the paying public get told what we're paying and that's it, no compromises.
the cheap stuff allows for more money to be allocated to the expensive stuff. it's either cheap stuff, repeats, or no expensive factual programs.
can't have it all.
Re: Licence fee.
It doesn't matter how many people outside the UK watch it because BBC will pay the same fee from the same pool of licence money. So they aren't losing out at all in my opinion.
dank has a point about bandwidth though. it's not an infinite resource.
Plus... a lot of people like the dancing. It's not everyone's cup of tea, clearly, but it gets the viewers in.
Whilst you're waiting for USF1, how about PortugalF1?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73404
Does Tony Teixeira feel like he's not getting enough attention at the moment?
Yes he does. I would hate to think that I would be impinging on the bandwidth, but the only other option is to try and stream Radio 5 Live. I refuse to watch it in Danish, the coverage is absolute pants.
I'll just have to find a way to watch it delayed but it means I won't be here while the race is on :-(
I like his plans though :-)
I do know of a good set of four podcasts that come out over a race weekend... they usually can fill you in if you miss anything.
Are you planning to do live commentary though? :-D
I know how to watch the races delayed, but I like to watch them 'live' so I tend to ignore all media until after I've seen them...
You're right you can't, hence why there will always be a difference of opinion and people unhappy about what they're paying for.
Bandwidth is a touchy subject with BT at the moment isn't it? I've heard the BBC Iplayer is using up to 20% of the nations total bandwidth at times. BT think the BBC should pay for the extra cables needed etc and obviously the BBC think BT should pay.
Not until we can get engine sounds as a background.
Cheers for the little dig. But for your information I haven't ever illegally downloaded an mp3 no. Nor any films due to my small download allowance with my ISP. Sorry about that.
Wow. Well done to you sir! I was being a little too cheeky, which I apologise for :-)
Have you lived abroad and not fully understood the language? I can speak Danish, but Sports TV is still too fast for me. Plus the coverage is not as good.
A lot of my friends go as far as paying for Sky TV from the UK - it can be done if you really want to. I must admit, I don't because a lot of the programs on Danish TV are actually in English, except for sports :-(
I pay for Sky and it's alright, it's not as amazing as they make out. There's adverts without fail every flaming 15 mins and usually only 5 mins into a program. Still I get Motor's TV which does have some great coverage on it of lesser publicised events, FIA GT, Britsh F3 etc..shame A1 GP is on sky sports.
Happy Pancake Day everyone!
I've just had a batch of Scotch Pancakes :D
Served hot with Haagen Dazs Vanilla ice cream and some home made chocolate fudge sauce.
Yum. :D
Only reason I have Sky Sports - givers me an idea of what F1 would look like in HD too.
Wowowowowow!!! Yuuuum. :D
We call it 'Fastelavn's day' here in Denmark... the kids dress up and we eat Danish pastries :-D
...And yeah, Lucky, lucky, B....!
No A1GP coverage at all in DK.
What's it like in HD?
I've got the TV, i'm just waiting on Bernie to give us the HD feed, I live in hope.
HD on the Beeb (F1) then that's something i'd defo pay extra for
The host lady (Georgina something) is nice (but she's no Lee McK!)...
I'd happily pay £10 per race from Bernie if we could get in HD and record it for our own use. Did thing about going to see the F1 at the Odeon but the it was £15 a ticket and the majority of that goes on the 'Official' program which as many of us knows is dire.
I'd happily pay £10 per race from Bernie if we could get in HD and record it for our own use. Did think about going to see the F1 at the Odeon (cinema) but the it was £15 a ticket and the majority of that goes on the 'Official' program which as many of us know is dire.
Anyone else watched at the cinema?
Now making another batch - I'm such a pig. :D
Not bad. It's much better than upscaling the SD feed, but as the cars are doing 160mph it doesn't make that much difference during movement. Stationary is much better.
F1 coverage with no adverts? You can't have it both ways.
Anyone else notice that she's sepia tinted monochrome?
Her hair and face are all the same colour....
@Gavin I used to imagine the race while watching the live timing. I confused myself and others by trying to live comment at the same time. Sometimes I'd see things in the numbers that others missed but sometimes I'd miss critical things that only vision made relevent.
I'd then watch the race on my days off - Tuesday or Wednesday - having forgotten half of what happened
Sounds like games we played as kids... might have to settle with Viking coverage and get you guys to fill me in ;-)
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!
ISIHAC is coming back! *does the happy dance again*
Who is the chairperson? I'm not dancing until I know.
Honda gossip via the autosport forums:
I know jack all about filing for trade names. But British Leyland F1? The name is hardly inspiring - my old man used to work for them in the 70s!
Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon
All at once? :|
Just read the BBC stuff
I did NOT expect that, that's fantastic. Thought F1 would get the same subsection in Motorsport just like all the other sports have on the BBC website, that's great news.
Triumph Herald F1? (The last Triumph ever made was actually a Honda Accord!)
Each will host 2 shows I believe.
Got to try and get to the Stephen Fry recordings...
Tweet him and ask...?
I was at the last one he was on. :)
Just think, instead of the RA107 RA108 rubbish chassis names...
2009 car called Allegro
2010 car called Herald
2011 car called SD1
LOL... oh that's a good one. Are Lehman Brothers funding it?
Woolworths will be the title-sponsor apparently.
:D. Remember that Allegro means fast, and that the Austin Allegro is famously more aerodynamic when going backwards.
The SD1 was technically advanced, but had a tendancy to break or rust or both.
Quentin Willson used to say "Buy the most luxurious one you can find - so when you break down you do so in comfort!"
I'm expecting that the "new-look BBC F1 subsection of the Motorsport section of the BBC Sports Website will be launched in the run-up to the season" but I guess it doesn't have the same ring to it.
Autosport are saying that Honda are still confident about racing.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73408
Nothing too new, a bit of confidence perhaps for us Honda fans.
Come on and get the effing deal sorted already!
When would the absolute final deadline be with the FIA for a team's entry anyways? I've read a few dates ranging from March 5th to the final thursday before Melbourne...
I suspect they will be given every leniency possible so that 20 cars appear on the grid...
Yeah that's true. Just came to my mind there when thinking about how long and drawn out this wholesilly ordeal has been without a clear ending.
The sale of an F1 team always plays out like this doesn't it? Just that some teams can keep it more secret than others...
Good point. Unlike in previous cases, there will be consequences for the rest of F1 if Honda doesn't make it and we go below 20 cars.
Yep. Remember the attempted buyout of Prost by Walkinshaw in 2002 through Phoenix? And the attempted sale of Arrows by Walkinshaw that very same year? They were trying to sell it to Craig Pollock, who had just been ousted from BAR in favor of Richards. But Pollock said no, and the team collapsed.
Am I asking to have to have it both ways? no i'm not..............
Gavin... sorry.
http://f1.automoto365.com/news/controller.php?lang=en&theme=default&month=2&seasonid=19&nextMode=ExclusiveNewsForm&news_id=34908
I am assuming we are talking about USF1 (the link didn't work properly).
I am glad to be wrong - the USF1 operation didn't need Honda and have enough talent and resources to do a better job anyway!
Going back to that quote earlier I mentioned from Autosport...
The expectations are a bit high there, surely? Unless they mean in the long term. Still, nice for them to be confident I suppose :p
Yep.
Good! :D
I should have realised when reading that quote that it ruled out USF1 getting involved...
Hey guys, sorry to pick this one up from the depths, but currently I believe I am the only one that doesn't have a team mate. I'm actually fine with that so if you want you can just go ahead and start the game :)
Wow that's optimistic, surely 2009 is just a survive at all costs year?
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel1/honda-f1-optimismus-trotz-aufschub-990085.html
You can translate the page directly. This translation is from the Autosport forums:
It's a long-term goal, for sure. Probably in 5 years?
It's be nice to see the top click of teams broken and have some new WCC winners.
Mainly BMW (Go Nick!!) and Red Bull
@ Scott
the article is online again
Right... so Virgin could still be the title sponsor then?
Still a possibility at this point, but not enough proof for it to be declared probable yet.
Speaking of which:

Five Pints.
PW is very big on this. {Comment #8}
I got that impression from his F1 Racing columns ;)
Lee McKenzie has posted this on Twitter regarding the BBC F1 coverage: {Comment #14}
“Every time an F1 car is on track, you will be able to watch it on the BBC whether it be through the Red Button or on BBC Sport website.”
Assuming the BBC have noticed that Free Practise 3 exists (which ITV never appeared to do), then I'm going to be really, really happy. Might be a problem with my parents getting me to go shopping with them on certain Saturday mornings though ;)
Buy your stuff on the internets! Problem solved!
F1 in one widnow, shopping in another; what more could you ask for in such a situation :D
Sounds normal to me.
Well it’s dropped out of my private games list? {Comment #21}
Same here. Oddly enough, my mid-season game (which has nothing to do with Sidepodcast) dropped out of my list as well, leaving me with only my public game...
You mean there's life outside Sidepodcast? :)
I don't think Sidepodcast likes me today (well Mr C and Christine!!), I said i basically didn't like paying the TV licence fee :-(
I think there's something brilliant in a TV company we all own that makes programs that are in the public interest and not just to flog the advertising dollar.
huh? soz, totally been out of the comment loop. what have i missed?
we loves you rcc, i think you're wrong about the beeb, but that doesn't me i no like ya :)
Just a few things
Schumacher buying Ferrari
Kimi's been pictured attending morris dancing lessons
Ron's marrying Lewis
All normal stuff really
Don't think i explained what I was thinking earlier very well, I like the BBC and want the BBC to stay, I wish i could pay for the items I watch (ie geeky programs like Horizon etc) but obviously it's for the masses so it's 'balanced' all round with programming. Doesn't mean I have to like celebrity dancing though!
Random but if anybody saw the BBC Atom series it's re running soon! must watch
Is there a set of podcasts coming up soon on the technology of an F1 car?
:D
I see the heated debate about people outside of UK trying to watch what viewers in the UK have to pay for.
I understand where the arguments are coming from but I would like to add my little bit:
a) I do not live in UK
b) I do like BBC shows
c) I do have 4 different BBC channels on my cable
d) I am paying for every single one of them monthly fee (we are charged channel by channel)
Hey, looks like I am also helping to fund the BBC F1 coverage but I still have to follow the 2009 season on Start Sports with Mr. Slater talking his stuff in the background :-)
Who's mr Slater?
Do you enjoy what you pay for? I don't think anyone doubts the BBC's ability to make high class programmes when it can.
What channels do you get?
Star Sports F1 commentator - he's even worse than James Allen.
And we've had to make do with him for a decade or so now.
Now you've gone and done it
I like James Allen! But anyway i'm sure I could be taken apart for weeks for saying such a dirty thing on an F1 website lol....yes I'll hang my head in shame just this once to save any arguments.
No GP2? {Comment #77}
GP2 rights are separate. ITV may well still have them.
But since Bernie facilitated F1's move to the Beeb, it's not a stretch for him to facilitate the GP2 move as well and free up some more of ITV's funds.
Hehe. However good or bad you think Allen is, Slater is definitely worse. That's our focus here. :D
Lee McKenzie just twittered something big I haven't seen yet!
The Chain is back!
@Gavin I used to imagine the race while watching the live timing. {Comment #148}
This reminds me of Spa 2005 qualifying, when the TV took ages to warm up. By the start of qualifying, the vision was a bunch of monochrome slanted frames zipping from right to left quite quickly. There was no sound at all As a result, I ended up commentating on the first 15 minutes of the session (and trying to explain how come I knew Narain Karthikeyan's time was going to make him last on the grid when my dad couldn't even see if the track was dry...)
This wasn't a problem by Monza. The TV packed up in the interim and the new TV worked correctly.
yay!
I heard on the radio earlier gmail has had a little disaster today
BBC World, BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge and BBC Lifestyle. The last two come in a package and one of them shows Top Gear. I think these are all made for overseas markets and probably show programmes that are in the UK on regular BBC channels. But I may be wrong.
I think I do enjoy what I am paying for as I am still paying :-)
Do well
Hopefully it won't be a new version with 'beats'
When would the absolute final deadline be with the FIA for a team’s entry anyways? I’ve read a few dates ranging from March 5th to the final thursday before Melbourne… {Comment #168}
The team has to be fully registered by the Tuesday preceding the first race - in theory. This includes stating who will fill the race seats for the first race. It would not be necessary to provide financial proof of ability to race because it's an existing franchise that scored points in the previous season. However, the other particulars (such as the identities of key players and payment of the €300,000 annual entry fee) would be necessary.
In practise, if Honda's cars are allowed on the plane to Melbourne, then the paperwork could be filed while the cars are in transit because they'd have to leave the UK before the deadline for the paperwork. The form can be faxed, so the paperwork isn't the problem.
The 20-car situation won't change anything as the ballot could be carried out in Melbourne if necessary. All teams have enough spares to build a third car simply because of the spares they carry and they've all got at least one tester who will be there as a reserve driver and wouldn't mind the upgrade. Assuming the Superlicence thing doesn't explode.
The engine and the car is the most pressing difficulty - if they can be sorted, then the paperwork is bagatelle.
haha :-)

I read somewhere day or two ago that Honda has the entry, I think it was big Bernie himself who said it ... So the paperwork should not be the problem. As you say, the engine, the car is. And some people involved in the whole thing ...
Speed have a page on their site dedicated to the USF1 conference. No signs of a video feed unfortunately
http://www.speedtv.com/programs/speed-press-conference
[redacted]
I'm just putting the question out there! :-)
Can we live comment their conference? I wonder if anyone will have in on Twitter.
Twiiter, silly me, I meant Justin. :P
pls keep it clean squire.
I am trying to find a feed. No luck so far.
can certainly keep an eye on it, but won't speed be available on the wheels-channel-windows-thingy?
Wheels has disappeared from TVU again
rats!
Actually, it's been gone for a while now. Had it been back lately?
haven't looked since brazil :)
I haven't looked since the end of the season
Buy your stuff on the internets! Problem solved! {Comment #190}
Until the internet comes up with the facility to return and select library books (through, say, teleportation) and starts discounting damaged or close-to-best-before-date items of food and drink, that's not really an option for me or Dad. It's not worth the bother we'd get from the library and Mum respectively.
10 seconds to go
The clock just reset to 1 hour and started counting down
Nope, it's 1 hour to go. It's only 11 AM EST.
Yep, the clock has a bug. Don't use it. :D
I thought the time was wrong but since I have a record for srewing up time zone conversions I decided to believe them
apparently no-one told murray about the theme tune:
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/andrewbaker/blog/2009/02/24/the_chain_is_back_as_f1_theme_and_murray_loves_it
awww!
I read somewhere day or two ago that Honda has the entry, I think it was big Bernie himself who said it {Comment #221}
They've definitely got a provisional entry because the FIA published them on the entry list back in January with a special note saying that Honda had not formally withdrawn its entry despite announcing withdrawal from the sport.
However, it wasn't a full entry because the particulars (notably the name of the team and the drivers) were not provided. These details (and any others that are missing) must be provided to the FIA by the Tuesday before the first race for the provisional entry to be upgraded to a full one.
That's me told :-(
soz buddy. ladies present n'all.
It wasn't explict or crude but yes my apologies to the ladies in the house.
God when is 5pm gonna arrive, I wanna know who's in Jenson's new team
5pm isn't a hard deadline... might not even have an announcement til next week. So don't put too hope on it.
fair point. i guess it's a case of, would you say it to the lovely lady if you met her in person?
you never know who could be reading ;)
Is that why I'm not in trouble?
you're in trouble for having a plus in your name :(
how'd that get there?
Split personality?
All joking aside about American single seater racers i'm really pleased we got a new team who's totally fresh, a la Red Bull, I'll cheer them on and I hope this proposed 'all access' for fans is as it says. I'm not sure where they'll find 2 American F1 stars so I think they may need an experienced European star to develop the car etc. Anthony Davidson this is your chance!!!!!!!!!! I know there's much talk of Danica Patrick possibly testing but I feel the IRL are not going to let their star attraction leave that easily.
So I just returned to the interwebz since Sunday evening and saw a James Allen blog piece on a (possible) Honda announcement sans Nick Fry.
Is this where things are at the moment, waiting for a press release?
I didn't notice that, although the @ in my email address was changed to a @ earlier on, which I did spot.
Yes. Apparently the deadline is 5pm yesterday but I am losing faith in that.
Oops, the second @ is actually a percentage sign followed by the number forty.
I don't believe Honda deadlines anymore
[Oh go then, seeing as it's you - we'll give you another week]
i'm seeing the same two bugs on other names, but can't repeat either :(
USF1 go live on Speed in half a hour so hopefully they will tell us something meaningful
It appeared today when I first loaded the doohickey page I think.
Is this the same person who was spouting off about 403a's yesterday because we know that was bull
Oh, and I did actually LOL and almost ROFL on that panda pic
British Leyland F1, what Maestro thought of that one?
:D Perhaps they are a diplomat, an Ambassador perhaps?
even i was amused by that one ;)
Maybe a royal launch with a Princess or something
[This should stop now.... but probably won't]
Have PlanetF1 nicked your Good Week/Bad Week?!?!?!
With all the scaling down this year I would have thought a Mini-launch would be more appropriate
Why not? Everyone else has.
not as blatantly as autosport magazine, no.
Morris inevitable:
You could travel on the Metro (number TR7) to the launch which will be a Triumph and received with much Acclaim. :)
Good Week/Bad Week, now that would be a great idea for my blog
Evnin all.
James Allen was talking about Virgin/Branson previously 'bigging up' possible deals just as SidePodChat were on Sunday. He listens [or did he read it in Autosport ;) ]?
USF1 in 10 minutes: http://www.justin.tv/badbeat4
Thanks for the link Journeyer
Thanks Journeyer
yay i got home in time. :)
10 minutes, I thought it was 1 in the US of A, meaning 9pm over here, my calculations were pointless...
Hey, Katy Perry!
Kate perry and Danica Patrick in F1's first ever female team?!
You heard it here first, on Vh1...wait, Speed!
oh dear, i'm already experiencing buffering.
This has the same number of viewers as the Tottenham v Hull game last night, I know we are bad, but surely.
Thats why I gave up on it last night.
Depends which time zone it's being broadcast from
Cool, Ferrari is going to bring back the traffic light system, according to Speed TV's web site....
Is that word still allowed?
[even if it's not in relation to a Sunday show from SPC towers]
Good time for pancakes to be done... bah!
Didn't Bosley look after Charlie's Angels?
here we go! :)
Oh yeah!
Yes Bernie, USA is important to Formula 1
That's what F1 needs, Hay bales for safety....
Nice starting montage - US history in F1.
Yep
Can we start a sweepstake on how many times he'll say "American"
I'm saying 67
1421
Los Vegas, too....
Sounds like America built and ran F1 and designed all the cars
i forgot how annoying bad buffering was. gah!
They didn't?
Heehee, i love American pronounciation of stuff...
Oh dear, they mentioned Scott Speed
My my, Andretti and Gurney to speak later!
I am waiting for someone to say "Jack Villeneuf"...
Maybe he should stick to this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWh-cDnS0k8
How much make-up is Peter Windsor wearing? ? ?
He looks like Max Headroom
Most of the technology in F1 comes from the USA in the first place????????????
They Fedex it to the races
Hmmm... They say they'll be back in base faster than the British teams... This will be mighty expensive.
Not to mention they'll need to have trucks anyway for their motorhomes.
These guys are really screwed.... Charolette, N.C.?
Mmm just had 4 pancakes. yum.
piece by piece
You lucky guy.
It's the best place in the States to base an F1 team. But I don't think it'll be anywhere nearly as good as a European base.
God the feed is awful.
Okay, is it meant to stop like that?
Dunno about you guys but 'Not broadcasting' keeps appearing here...
Not just mine then?
Speed and/or Justin are cracking under the load of the SPC viewers me thinks.
bu-bu-bu-buffering
It was actually very good awhile ago. Suddenly got awful just now.
nope.
it was the wind tunnel's fault
I'm watching the USF1 press conference...
Hey, so if Ken owns the Windshear tunnel, AND now works on an F1 team... is he going to lose all his F1 business at his tunnel?
Also, is it just me or is this press conference 90% fluff?
i got nothing :(
working again here
Scott Speed's 'a really talented guy' ;(
oooh, good point!
Aye, where is the parades and cheerleaders and fireworks.
Danica has been mentioned.
it takes someone special to be that useless ;)
VERY good point. But I think he won't lose his F1 clients. I mean, they can lease that out anyway.
Kyle Biusch?! Oh god.
God bless the USA
97 & 5/16ths
That's the second mention of McLaren
Sod off Nascar guy.
Mercedes engines
Hey, he's capable. But there's no way he'd leave NASCAR without winning at least 1 Sprint car title there.
ITSA ME, MAAAAAAAARIO!
The logo is correct! ;)
I like the big pic on the screen next to "ON THE PHONE"
[hey folks, this ain't no webcam]
But even if they lease the tunnel, there are ALWAYS tunnel staff present to make sure they don't break that super precious 5mm thick stainless steel belt. Unless Windshear's press stuff I read was wrong.
Ooooh, Mario ever-so-slightly pressuring Marco there.
Heh, talk about selling a driver to the owners
He said all this two or three years ago
Oh yeah, absolutely. But let's face it, Mario's USF1's best bet for a solid American driver.
If Kyle Busch gets in, he'll bring all the Nascar hicks with him. Git.
I love the big fancy NASCAR background they have when they do the close up of Peter and Ken.
Probably not. Most NASCAR fans don't like him right now - they find him a tad too arrogant. They favor Junior.
Does that mean instead of 'oversteer' we'll now have to say 'loose'
:D
Brazil 2006? That's a loooong time ago... So they've been planning it that long?
But they hate snobby european racing more. So if KB does well, then they'll watch just to rub it in everyone else's faces.
If I remember right the website, or trademark, or something relating to USf1 has been registered for a few years now
before spc!
If you had not had a podcast you could have a logo now
Yup, but I thought that the plan went dormant and was only revived this year.
If Busch does well, I'll eat my glasses.
blast!
Dan Brunell, they're looking for lots of Americans!
If Bush drives, I'll eat my watch
Uh oh 'deadlines'
The dreaded word in F1 at the moment!
Are we really that bad? Or is it jealousy? we have arguably the best motorsport in the world?
I meant Busch, we don't want any Bush driving now.
What are the chances of them going through this whole program and telling us absolutely nothing
Graham Rahal, Mario Andretti = Nelson Piquet jr?
Highly likely
Nah... it's just that they think Europeans are arrogant, when they're not. Just misunderstanding due to lack of awareness.
how is it any different from the windtunnel interview yesterday?
Lol at that Ken guy. "We're gonna uh......let them all know......about it uh......"
I doubted much was going to happen, way to early on this season to announce anything for next year.
They could announce who they have hired assuming there is not just the two of them
Cheaper resources, but there's also a lot less money going round... which will play a bigger role?
All of the above? Every racing series has its own good points... but everyone is touchy about their racing series. Americans just tend to be VERY nationalistic and they would love to kick butt in F1. Just look at how much they hate on Juan Pablo Montoya for being a foreigner who tried to come into NASCAR from F1.
the usf1 website says it will be announced in 30 mins.
i thought they loved him?
can't wait!
I think Honda designed the countdown clock
Montoya is just as divisive now in NASCAR as he has always been in F1.
Was that not before he went to F1?
That's some buffering
I am still wondering who's 5 year old cars and parts are they going to use?
At last, SOMETHING:
Team Principal: Ken Anderson
Sporting Director: Peter Windsor
Not much, but something.
What driver line-up would you like to see? And what do you think is likely, or has a chance?
I think Busch and Andretti would be so ridiculous that I like it. No idea about it realistically though.
"Hopefully" for 2010?
Jimmy johnson and Mario
Rubens and Rubens
I believe in a years time cloning will be commonplace.
Andretti and Franchitti.
grr
They love to see him fail.
Mario? ;)
I haven't seen anyone better since.
Is he related to Clive Anderson, sure looks like him
Who's car is it anyway?
Exactly what I was thinking
:D
*applauds*
sidepodtour!!!!!
award!
Grow organicly and reality TV. Is he serious?
The talk of bringing in the fans and such is awesome.
Marketing coup... Dale Jr and Kyle Busch. It's like McLaren 2007 at the back of the grid!
sounds like a green Earth Dream
[no offence Lou/Dom]
cool!
Scott Speed MERCHANDISE?!
Crash repair kits?
punchbag?
Sounds possible, I was thinking of a tin opener, or a pair of socks but that works
Do you think they'll make it to 2010? And then to 2011?
:D
The feed froze the second Gurney said Max and it hasn't re-started
conspiracy!
Still running on mine. ;)
More infomercial gumph
young man?
Gurney says Peter Windsor is a 'young man'. Ha!
Is it a Harry Enfield sketch?
Gotta love the tache
Copared to Dan he is
Thank god thats over.
So they told us nothing.
oh that's it. I was expecting more ticker tape and badly choereographed dancers around a billboard
I want my 38 minutes back :(
...And that's it? Yup, all fluff, all right.
:D
Is there a flag for Viewerland?
So long and thanks for all the fish
:O
i hear Honda!
...oh bikes
:D
Theres motorbikes and dirt, and lots of a jumps
so much for the Hollywood film :P
I heard Honda too, oh god.
They were sensible not to compete with jarno to be fair
Without them I never would have known it was to be so 'American'
First thing we see after USF1 are Honda motors... how appropriate. ;)
They're building the suspense for the website launch in 18 mins
Hmm, Red Bull and Honda, I sense a conspiracy theory.
:)
Oh dear
Hey... medicine for baldness!
Oh well, at least we got to hear a lot of good BBC stuff today.
Can they not just fedex me a press release
Is that Bosley... again!
Oh yeah!
http://www.petitiononline.com/buschf1/petition.html
he he he, ha ha ha, hoooo :D
As I say that autosport have put up more details from BBC comments about what the pre race coverage and whatnot will include
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/73410
Gridwalks will be there :)
I can't wait until the I can watch the webcam from their factory of them unwrapping the cars after they have been Fedexed from Melbourne
1 Total Signatures
Oh dear
You gotta love those americans, giving their rubbish to us.
FP3 exist yet?
Signed Kyle Busch?
Signed by the creator! :)
So that's a yes then ;)
:D
D:
Evening.
Do we actually have anything on USF1 yet?
Also, tomorrow is the IET Kers thing isn't it?
Thirdly... Final hostipal visit for the next 3 months is done. :D YAY!
Go on. Sign it as Peter Windsor
Interesting, over on the SpeedTV website, for the Live Press Conference for USF1 there is a picutre of a 2008 McLsren, I wonder how they can do this without getting some sort of copyright issues unless they just completely bought out McLaren....
Nationalism is all good but replacing Hamilton with Scott Speed? Okay, a Danica for Koive swap might be an improvement....
1. They're American (I think)
2. Yup, see you there
3. Good news
Sorry, that was for Flibster
:D
Evening all.
Sounds like I haven't missed much USF1 stuff?
They mentioned McLaren twice.
Mario Andretti and Dan Gurney did interviews and said USF1 was a fab idea.
Peter Windsor said the team would grow organically and naturally. So no plan. I never had him down as an old hippy.
The whole thing is going to be a reality TV show.
Logistics are not a problem because of Fedex, UPS etc.
Just waffle
How do you rate their chances, then?
Good. Time to hobble to the train station and get a ticket then.
heya. unless you didn't know they were American, you haven't missed much :)
And most of the F1 technology was invented in America
They may make midfield if UPS don't lose their cars
Did I miss that bit?
The day when everything happens?
Oooh dear...
less than 50 seconds .. will their website cope?
As much chance of succeding as a sidepodcast show going without technical problems
:D
The big American flag in the background waving on the screen gave it away I suppose
Renault F1 launch on Star Sports... How un-spectacular, especially compared to previous years (having launched in Roman ruins and an opera house).
hahahaha XD their website has started the 59 min count down again! ahah
59 minutes till it opens!
...again!
.........again!
Goodyear is the most successful tyre in F1 and the Cosworth DFV is the 2nd most successful engine so we can fill in a couple of the blanks
The big cheats it counted down to zero seconds and then went back to 59 mins and 59 seconds :(
If you check out Giggles and my Wiki pages to help identify us
[he'll be the one live commenting the lecture with his iPhone]
[I'll be the one in the hoodie]
It's Groundhog Hour
:D
The clock is broken. Has been all day since 12 PM local time. :)
I'll be the one not there
I'll look out for you
Black fleece with Vulcan to the Sky logo on it and probably either a JPS Lotus cap or a 60th anniversary Lotus cap.
Oh, and hobbling.
Lets hope the team does better then ;)
ahhhhh, how am i gonna beat you in the quiz?
No I am the one who is not there
Check
I'm Brian and so's my wife!
This could end up as a problem
i'll be the one drowning in a see of photography coursework ;)
You. Beat me? :D
:D
All roads lead to Python... :D
Romanes Eunt Domus?
I didn't make the connection. You are all going out on quiz night. Is it worth asking for the quiz to be moved a day or is that not possible for other reasons. Or does Jolly want to keep it on Wednesdays to establish it.
People called Romanus, they go yaos?
:D
and I am all out of red paint
What time is it on Wednesday? Might be able to make it... for once. ;)
20:30 GMT
I'm guessing Mr C will be the one in the Panda costume
Alright, will see if I can make it. :)
Dressing up as a furry animal? There's a club for that. I saw it on CSI...
That was a gross episode, too.
SidePodCrime?
I'm not saying anything this time
No, Crime SidepodInvestigation. :D
Isn't Stepney currently going through that?
Peter Windsor talking to crash radio
http://audio.crash.net/radioplayer.asp?radioURL=143320.wma
oooh, the Kyle Busch petition has 3 signatures now.
Though I'm thinking someone posted twice
i cannot imagine i'm that important. maybe we can take part from the pub, will have to see.
Or an F1 team logistics manager was try to login to track his gearbox
Good idea
Is that necessarilly a good idea? ;)
Especially since there are relative people around to ask.
Always
I didn't mean just you. I know there are a few others going who may otherwise have joined the quiz.
oh :(
;)
Apple announce Safari 4 public beta
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/02/24/apple-announces-safari-4-public-beta/
Now THAT'S a pub quiz!
Oh, just remembered to dig out some of the old F1 bits to take tomorrow.
*grabs F1 damper paperweight*
I didn't mean that, sorry
Everybody refresh
coverflow!
Hmm, that shouldn't happen. Shoulda said 'Eh?'
Not sure why?
Yup, cool huh?
1st draft didn't say public beta!
I like this from the USF1 website.
Not going to happen, come on, they have a racing series where cars can only turn left!
http://www.justin.tv/badbeat4
Speed Network Feed. Just bear in mind you aren't paying for the broadcasting fee ;-)
From the Mighty Vault of Sniff Petrol!
2. Bring back The Chain as the theme tune. This is what the people want from F1. Not flashy graphics, not seamless punditry, just turning on the telly of a Sunday afternoon to hear ‘bumm bu-bu-bumm bu-bu-bububu-bummm…’ and then that ace bit where it gets all exciting and the guitar goes ‘nangnangnangnangnangnangah!’ NB: This MUST coincide with a shot of an F1 car bottoming out and sparks coming off the bottom. It’s THE LAW.
Seems reasonable to me
The Chain is my Ringtone and my alarm clock. So I wake up to the awesomeness of
Dictonary Definition
Optimistic
–adjective
1. disposed to take a favorable view of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.
2. reflecting optimism: an optimistic plan.
3. of or pertaining to optimism.
4. Proving that American technology, American drivers and the American competitive spirit can compete and win on the F1 global stage has been our mission for several years now.
Bless em :-)
Amen
Applying for American travel Visa Waiver thingy
Find it odd that United Kingdom has the code GBR
Whose using UK?
its dawning on me, that colouring my thumb in with permanent marker was a stupid thing to do...
GBR is used in a lot of things when describing Great Britain?
Uh huh, then why not say Great Britain (GBR)?
Dunno - It's bureaucracy, right? It's not supposed to be logical or make sense!
And still find moral turpitude an extremely amusing term
Don't know why
At least that is a lesson you won' have to learn twice.
Put some copydex on it, then peel it off when it dries
Do they still make Copydex?
Porky's?
Who's actually heard the entire song rather than just the outro?
American visa waiver form
"Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude"
I have, got it on my iPod :)
Me.
Song?
Next thing you'll be saying they didn't write that tune especially for Top Gear
'Rumours' is an absolutely awesome album - and the story behind it is even better!
You mean Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band?
Next Q: How does Max get into America?
"Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved , in any way, in persecutions associated with Nazi Germany or its allies?"
Ha!
Go to a hobby shop and get latex for moulding. It's the same stuff.
me
Has the USF1 conference happened yet?
That's an overstatement, you didn't miss much
Refer to earlier comments (if you really need to)
He doesn't that's why we had the 6 car GP because he was 4000 miles away
I wonder if anyone has ever said yes.
Does it smell the same, I would've thought it'd be banned yonks ago
Much like the bus service here at times, their website says the conference is happening on the hour, every hour
The team is American. The end. Just saved you half an hour of your life.
Smells exactly the same. THe smell is ammonia that is used to slow the curing of the latex.
I thought it was horses hooves :)
If you had ever driven past a horse glue factory you would know that copydex smells like roses by comparison.
That nice, hmm
Quote from Mr Allen on viewing figures in the UK:
ITV was getting around 5-6 million viewers for the European time zone races last year as a benchmark, with a peak of 13m for the Brazilian GP.
So does that mean there are 12 million or 26 million people in the UK (According to the 51% market share quoted on Sidepodchat the other day)?
Maybe they were discounting the number of people watching but listening to Five live & not Mr Allen's incessant warbling
Typo of 15% perhaps?
Like what was said in sidepodchat, 51% can't be the right statistic.
The figure was I think 51% of households which could mean one person in a household of 4 or 5 people.
The quote from the Paddock:
"Sadly for many of us here, there were no such footballing distractions for the British audience. With the football teams of all four nations having nothing else to do but lie on beaches around the Mediterranean, the TV audience had free reign to watch the Formula 1 action, and 51.5 percent chose to do exactly that."
It's 51% of TV-owning households, but it doesn't quote specifics regarding how long, whether that's over the course of the year, or what. Sorry.
But isn't the 51% just the market percentage (or however it is called in English). As in 51% of the people watching TV that night were watching the race
Potentially, if all in the house were watching at that time
Now that seems the logical explanation, though surprised as it started same time as the Man City v Bolton game didn't it?
It doesn't count people just TVs.
Ohhh that's how it's so high
:P
TV owning households I think
Woo, champions league football is back! Worried about playing Inter with our makeshift defence at the moment...
Even as a Man Utd fan though i love Mourinho. Such an amusing personality.
It made me laugh earlier in the season with the FA cup where Steve Ryder was presenting the program and they handed over to Jim Rosenthal for the FA Cup draws. Just made me smile :)
Aye, the vengance of the Formula 1 Hosts.
This Champions League, never heard of it ;)
no TVs, since there might be more than one TV in a household (watching different things). At least in Germany :)
I figured they were being quite economic with the truth
And where are Spurs again? ;-)
14th, which is, as I pointed out many times today, higher than Newcastle. And we are in the Carling Cup final
Aww gee, the Carling Cup final. Isn't that sweet? ;-)
Its a ticket to Europe, assuming we beat Man U, almost certain we will do that, poor team ;)
As long as your lot stay up this year then anything else is a bonus. And we do want the Spurs to stay up!
Or you may have an inconsolable fan around the Spanish and Monaco races.
You know, Christine and "me" need to launch a mock press release for the RSPCRF1 team. I mean, at least we have most of the senior staff, and the race drivers already in place....
Scott - what happend with the spc batracer game, noticed it had disappeared.
Instead of "American", they can keep saying Sidepodlandian ;)
I'm getting that too. It's not under 'My Games'.
Dank said the same thing earlier...
They ask the same sort of question on the form you have to fill out to get a pass to the Houses of Parliament: "Have you ever been a member of a terrorist organisation, yes or no. If yes, please provide full details in the box provided."
25 million households.
i have :) awesome song, tis on my ipod and everything :)
Crucifixion?
Line on the left, one cross each ;)
Things I am taking from this press conference.
- I risked skipping out on work for this?
- It makes me nervous that they didn't get specific about who is investing in them and that they only have the money for 2009.
- The American angle is getting a little much. Please, turn it down to eleven.
- They are right about the materials, manpower, and all those costs are going down. I was talking to some people at Boeing and they said their one saving grace with the 787 is that the price of carbon fiber has just plummeted.
- If this is such a brilliant concept, why haven't Windsor passed it along to his friends over at Williams? They seem like a team that could make this concept work.
All in all, nice to hear from Gurney and Andretti.
what nationality is windsor again?
v.good point!
Carbon Fibre & Composite repair folk will be the Sheet Metal Workers of the next decade. A good trade to pick up youngsters
:)
That sounds like a dangerous drinking game.
Engilsh and brought up in Australia. Brilliant for a US team.
Yes, but as he says himself, the rest of the team is North American. Well, apart from the engine supplier.
And the postmen?
:)
Hehe
some more Honda rumours to pass the evening.
Turun Sanomat says that David Richards will get Nick Fry's job
Well that would just be marvellous :)
Google tells me that's a newspaper not a person ;)
forgot the link
sorry. writes
Honda has not completely satisfied with all the sales transaction related to the details, but they aim to fiksaamaan later this week.
They aim to what?
[inadequate Google Translation]
fix it
Not a problem, my knowledge of the Finnish press is not what it used to be.
So Kathi, I take it you are tri-lingual (at least)
we don't pay you enough ;)
kiitos!
not really :)
ole hyvä
Sounds like every Swiss person I met who, when asked if they speak English they say "a little" before continuing with a full-blown conversation, with jokes!
Whereas we just talk louder, in English.
:D
nothing like that. I don't understand spoken Finnish not can I speak it myself, but I can guess the meaning when it is written.
Same with French.
Indeed
How do you get by living in Finland when you can't speak Finnish? Is your job in another language or something?
just a testing something. as ever, pls do ignore ;)
Just testing. He's roped me in too.
Just testing so we don't feel left out ;-)
I'm still at the University. And the lectures are in English. It's very easy to get along here in English which is probably the reason why I don't speak much Finnish yet.
Understood. My job is in English so that's how I roll, so to speak. I'm having Danish lessons though :-)
awww!
Totally off-topic but I was bored last night so I did this mild photoshop of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button poster crossed with honda's plight
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh164/mm21_bucket/benjaminjensonbutton2.jpg
and sunday's show was very enjoyable, thanks to all those involved
he looks like adrian newey ;)
Haha, nice :)
The Jenson pic reminds me of Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder...
I have now finished this week's Thursday night story. I guess only three people will say they have ever heard of the driver concerned. It may not even be as many as three.
Does it begin with 'The Fastest'?
No. SO far the only title I have is his name but by Thursday I may have come up with something more inventive.
I hope its about Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)
waaaa hoooo
There is an Ernest mentioned in it but he only appears at the end and it is not a great role if anyone makes a film of it.
I can't wait steven, your previous article on Gilles Villeneuve was outstanding
Glad you liked it. I have another two coming up and an idea for one after that and of course there was one a week before the Villeneuve item.
On the subject of USF1 again, perhaps they might run with a South American? Don't see why not, don't see two US drivers being able to succeed. If they did, maybe Montoya? Though I doubt he'd want back.
Montoya is "tired of the bull.... in F1" so he probably doesn't want to go back.
Yeah probably. Also, he loevs the laid-back attitude of Nascar too much.
I just want him back damnit!
and we is back. sorry 'bout the downtime. mediafail ballsed up again.
aw no worries. can't be helped.
am typing during a rare moment of mediatemple uptime. mostly to mark the occasion for posterity ;)
mr c, i'm on msn to joe and he tells me he still can get on spc.
I wonder who hosts USF1?
:D
he should be able to now. could you ask hi to give it another go pls?
Server down?
yep will do.
mm, not so much. the database connection got lost somewhere, but i could still get into it. so it was up, but lost on the interwebs.
I had to comment on F1 Fanatic earlier. Someone made a comment that USF1 was all bluff and all they had was talk and a website.
I had to tell him he was half right.
Aha, we're back!
:D
:D
evening / morning.
All's good now. Phew.
hullo :D
:D
Who broked it? ;)
sooo, anyone fancy so new doohickey sidepodcode?
steven.
Go for it
que?
:D
Of course
*some* new code, sorry.
More?
yup. we've now crossed over the hump from building the boring and invisible back-end bits. it's all new goodness in the run up to melbourne.
Go for it
ok. will release in a second, but i should first point out this is alex's idea. so if you don't like it... ;)
Yeah, but I bet Steven told him :D
:D
am just gonna jump over to today's thread. didn't realise it was up given all the server issues.
just thought i'd step out of the shadows to comment on honda. first off i'm tired of deadline after deadline passing do they really have prospective buyers i doubt it, i think they're just beating a dead horse and as for bernie offering up money i'd sooner make a deal with the devil because you know the eventual outcome of that deal but a deal with bernie you never know what will happen next only that it won't end well and finally before i duck back into the shadows a message for nick fry or ross brawn last one out shut off the lights because your team is done like dinner. the grey man.
Grow organicly and reality TV. Is he serious? {Comment #396}
Now there's a contradiction (or mutually exclusionist terminology, to get up Peter Windsor's nose)...
I want my 38 minutes back {Comment #419}
It felt to me like a cross between the Jordan and BAR team announcement launches; Jordan's "lean-mean" philosophy badly jarring with BAR's "America is the best". Since the two teams had completely different trajectories in F1, I would hesitate to suggest how USF1 would do on the basis of this announcement.
Thirdly… Final hostipal visit for the next 3 months is done. :D YAY! {Comment #451}
That's great news!
