We have reached Friday at long last, and it is, of course, FIA elections day. I have no doubt it will be impossible to avoid it, and we may even have another breakout thread at long last! Still, I would like to reserve the daily as my F1 Happy Place, thank you.

  • The first most important thing to mention is in answer to a question Adie asked yesterday. If, as is looking very likely right now, Mr Todt becomes FIA President, Sidepodcast will continue. You have nothing to fear.
  • It appears that Lucas di Grassis is intent on getting a seat next year, and not content with talking to his current employers Renault for a 2010 drive, he's also been in deep discussions with new team Manor. This news will make Amy and myself very happy, I'm sure.
  • RG has written about the decision Toyota have to make regarding Timo Glock driving for them in Abu Dhabi. He's missed two races already and as yet there's no word on whether he'll be fit and back in the car for the final race of the season.

That'll do it for now. Mr C will have an Aside with Joe show up at some point in the early hours, no doubt, so keep an eye out for that. I'll see you in the comments.

    Morning, everyone.

Looks like we don't need to wait for the sunrise to get major news. Donington's fate has been sealed, it seems. From JA on Twitter:

Donington bond scheme has failed. There was interest, but not enough. Now it requires someone to buy the equity if it is to go ahead

And it needs someone to buy it TODAY.

  • Jon Waldock22/10/2009 at 23:08

    Bedtime, all too soon.

May drop in tomorrow depending how busy things are, given the lack of post I'm betting 'not very'. Not around in the evening though, and I'm going back to Ikea on Saturday to actually buy a bed and not just look at them, so hopefully see you after that..

They said that pilots don't actually do lots of things at once but they idetify which of several tasks need their attention and deal with that before moving on. Every time they give them tasks that require two things to be done at once even the best of them fails.

It is a button that lets the driver or marshals select a neutral gear so it is an N. There is a similar button with an E on it which triggers fire exitinguishers in the cockpit and the engine bay

The Guardian says Macca talking to Jenson...

They better not be!... they have to have Kimi...

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:04

Apparently the Daily Mail is stirring up rumours of Jenson at McLaren with Lewis. While, of course, it fails the two drivers of the same nationality test, I think it might be actually a good fit for McLaren.

Obviously not what the fans want to see. We want to see Lewis pushed by Kimi.

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:06

I guess I won't be voting for Jenson as SPOTY then....

And it passes the Vodafone test, apparently.

Obviously not what the fans want to see. We want to see Lewis pushed by Kimi.

Indeed. I think this is just the media trying to mess things up, or perhaps Button trying to get a bit of leverage on Brawn. But ultimately, it won't happen. Even Heidfeld is more likely than Button at McLaren, I'd think.

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:08

But has Kimi indeed priced himself out of F1, or is he just too interested to go rallying?

Vote for Jenson anyway. Even if Kimi doesn't end up at McLaren, it doubt it'll be Jenson replacing him. ;)

Keep the faith... he will be in F1 next year - RObertson is just holding out for more cash...

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:15

Indeed. I think this is just the media trying to mess things up, or perhaps Button trying to get a bit of leverage on Brawn. But ultimately, it won't happen. Even Heidfeld is more likely than Button at McLaren, I'd think.

To my mind Kimi's management will have signed with McLaren before being released from Ferrari (or a rally team if he's really off). There's no way he's scrabbling around for a deal. Not his style.

But after signing with McLaren and Kubica signing with Renault, Toyota finally got approval for its 2010 program and decided to replace Trulli. Too late everyone has deals.

Toyota try to throw megabucks at the deal, but unless they paid Kimi $100 million he wouldn't race at Toyota (and even then I'd doubt it). And he'd have to break with McLaren.

Now aside from all this the Jenson deal is still ongoing, and I think his management are simply using the lack of Kimi being announced at McLaren to get more money from Brawn. Because Brawn are in the enviable position of having a World Champion who is a) out of contract and b) nobody else has a drive for him.

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:17

    There's really no point!

Exactly. I do think there is a twist in store here, though. We shall see.

Thank you Mr RG I do so pray that you are correct... and that Roertson doesn't hold out too long...

An announcement (and a win) at Abu would be good so I have a reason to drink lots of bubbly.....

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:19

To my mind Kimi's management will have signed with McLaren before being released from Ferrari (or a rally team if he's really off). There's no way he's scrabbling around for a deal. Not his style.

So is the only reason McLaren haven't announced it is that Heikki has no deal yet?

But after signing with McLaren and Kubica signing with Renault, Toyota finally got approval for its 2010 program and decided to replace Trulli. Too late everyone has deals.

How corporate of Toyota. That'll hurt. Now they might have to end up paying more than they wanted for Glock or Kovalainen.

Now aside from all this the Jenson deal is still ongoing, and I think his management are simply using the lack of Kimi being announced at McLaren to get more money from Brawn. Because Brawn are in the enviable position of having a World Champion who is a) out of contract and b) nobody else has a drive for him.

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:21

So is the only reason McLaren haven't announced it is that Heikki has no deal yet?

I think Ferrari had a gag clause in the deal. I mean everyone knew Alonso was going to Ferrari but they didn't for sure because it wasn't anounceable until some point.

Ferrari wanted everyone to talk about them getting Alonso. Not about Kimi at McLaren.

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:22

    !!!

party in the mobile home? :D

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:23

Ferrari wanted everyone to talk about them getting Alonso. Not about Kimi at McLaren.

But no one's talking about Alonso anymore - everyone had been talking about it BEFORE it was announced. By announcing it, Ferrari had effectively ended any discussion, because it became old news. Everyone was now speculating on the next domino, so to speak - Kimi.

  • Kathi23/10/2009 at 07:23

party in the mobile home? :D

    hehe

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:23

I am looking forward to seeing Kimi win at Spa in a McLaren

Wouldn't that be amazing? :P A Button-Brawn win at Spa would be something too.

  • Kathi23/10/2009 at 07:24

A Button-Brawn win at Spa would be something too.

    No

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:25

Wouldn't that be amazing? :P A Button-Brawn win at Spa would be something too.

Unacceptable. I have already seen Button win once. 3 races, 3 winners. 3 races next year, 3 new winners please. (2 Finns and one Barrichello please)

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:25

But no one's talking about Alonso anymore - everyone had been talking about it BEFORE it was announced. By announcing it, Ferrari had effectively ended any discussion, because it became old news. Everyone was now speculating on the next domino, so to speak - Kimi.

But they got the official press. I think this will probably hark back to the Alonso to McLaren announcement which upset Ferrari massively because of some timing thing. I can't quite remember the details.

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:26

Unacceptable. I have already seen Button win once. 3 races, 3 winners. 3 races next year, 3 new winners please. (2 Finns and one Barrichello please)

Weren't you around when Kimi won in 07?

I predict your three new winners will be:

    Australia: Massa

    Belgium: Raikkonen

    Italy: Alonso

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:27

Ferrari? I thought it upset Renault?

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:28

Weren't you around when Kimi won in 07?

nope, I was still at Uni then, 08 was my first.

I predict your three new winners will be:

    Australia: Massa

    Belgium: Raikkonen

    Italy: Alonso

Already seen Alonso "win" (no Singapore debates please ;) )

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:29

Ferrari? I thought it upset Renault?

Yes it was Renault - you're right. Hmmm... I can't quite remember but there was something in my mind pointing me in this direction... Hmmm..

:D Good point. Scratch Alonso - make it Vettel (assuming they suddenly don't run Cosworths).

At Monza, will you run to the podium?

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:36

Yes it was Renault - you're right. Hmmm... I can't quite remember but there was something in my mind pointing me in this direction... Hmmm..

Closest I can think of is when Kimi replaced Schumi upon his retirement. But they controlled that situation pretty well.

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:36

At Monza, will you run to the podium?

    I don't run. ;)

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:38

    I don't run.

BOO! :P But that's one of the traditions of Monza - the podium run!

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:39

BOO! :P But that's one of the traditions of Monza - the podium run!

Hehehe. Lest someone get any ideas... :D I mean, BBC's Ashes Montage intro was Honda trying to sell their team. That's awful PR for miles on end.

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:42

Not in this thread it isn't.

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:46

I am looking forward to seeing Kimi win at Spa in a McLaren

And getting the WDC Macca admit they owe him... (Actually Ron said he was owed two...)

I might walk down, at a reasonable and comfortable pace

Then you will get nowhere near the podium unless you can get paddock access....

But they got the official press. I think this will probably hark back to the Alonso to McLaren announcement which upset Ferrari massively because of some timing thing. I can’t quite remember the details.

The Alonso to Macca upset Flav tons as it happened before the 2006 season started and he wanted it announced late in 2006 as he felt it would demotivate Renault... It didn't because the Macca was truly awful in 2006....

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:47

Not in this thread it isn't.

:D Hehe. Cmon, Friday's a big enough day in itself! ;)

    Happy place much? :D

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:48

Then you will get nowhere near the podium unless you can get paddock access....

I always see the podium in Melbourne, that'll do me ;)

And getting the WDC Macca admit they owe him... (Actually Ron said he was owed two...)

but then I'd have to go to whichever race it is that he gets crowned at. Cannot afford more!

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:48

It wasn't really THAT awful - considering it's scored more points that year than McLaren has this year. I guess it's a solid car, but it had little potential to develop to become a race-winner.

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:49

I always see the podium in Melbourne, that'll do me

But this is different - the podium is right near the track! :D

It might be at Monza, for all you know. ;)

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:49

Not in this thread it isn't.

Oh it is... Because in this thread we will be discussing things like:

    1) Isn't Friday really the third best day of the week?

    2) Buttercups or Rainbows - which is better?

    3) The smell of freshly mown grass is good, but not inside, so is fresh baked bread the answer?

All of the hot button issues :)

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:50

but then I’d have to go to whichever race it is that he gets crowned at. Cannot afford more!

Beg, borrow and steal.... it's got to be justified....

  • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 07:50

    1) Isn't Friday really the third best day of the week?

    Behind Sundays and Saturdays? :D

    2) Buttercups or Rainbows - which is better?

Gotta be rainbows - they're so much cooler. :D

    3) The smell of freshly mown grass is good, but not inside, so is fresh baked bread the answer?

    YES!

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:50

Beg, borrow and steal.... it's got to be justified....

    Maybe in 2011 ;)

How many circuits have you been to over the years? Sounds like lots!

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:53

How many circuits have you been to over the years? Sounds like lots!

    Only been travelling recently but...

Of this year's circuits I will (after Abu) have been to 17...

And I have been to two others...

  • Christine23/10/2009 at 07:53

All of the hot button issues :)

    I like it!

    3) The smell of freshly mown grass is good, but not inside, so is fresh baked bread the answer?

As long as it is not just the smell of fresh bread and that there actually is some bread to eat as well. Otherwise it would just make you hungry, whereas grass does not do that (hopefully).

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:54

Of this year's circuits I will (after Abu) have been to 17...

wow! I need to find a job that pays for this/gives me enough time off. Being based in Australia makes European circuits a little expensive/time consuming to get to :D

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:54

As long as it is not just the smell of fresh bread and that there actually is some bread to eat as well. Otherwise it would just make you hungry, whereas grass does not do that (hopefully).

    Good point. Very good point.

So say you were just going to put in a smell but you couldn't have the thing. What would you go for inside? Bread and coffee both being out by this reckoning.

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:56

So say you were just going to put in a smell but you couldn't have the thing. What would you go for inside? Bread and coffee both being out by this reckoning.

    purple!

    Does purple have a smell?

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 07:56

    Does purple have a smell?

I really like the smell of all my purple cleaning things. I think they are lavender :D

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:57

Being based in Australia makes European circuits a little expensive/time consuming to get to

    That is really tricky...

You need to make sure that when you do a European race you arrange to do two in one holiday...

But you'll rack up tons of airmiles... I hope you are in a frequent flyer programme as the miles add up and you end up getting some free travel...

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 07:57

I really like the smell of all my purple cleaning things. I think they are lavender :D

Ah yes lavender is good. And might be the answer here. I do not want to eat lavender.

Well coffee does work for me, as I don't drink it but like the smell of it.

The only other thing I can think of is flowers, but that's just bringing the outside in, so you might as well get the lawnmower.

  • Lady Snowcat23/10/2009 at 07:58

my favourite pilots are the ones who get on the announcementy machine (thats a word) and tell us what we are flying over and what we can see out the windows. • Journeyer23/10/2009 at 08:28

I've always said if I was a pilot I would make them drop on purpose just to freak people out. Probably a good thing I'm not a pilot.

    :D

Or the actual floor, I suppose.

I store way too much stuff under my bed to ever sleep on the floor. This probably rules out the hole in the floor too. Boo.

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 08:31

If you were a grown up with your own house maybe you'd have enough other storage space?

This is a good point. I quite liked my parents house, I told them I look forward to owning it when they die. I should point out that my family says horribly offensive things to each other quite often because our humour is twisted :D

  • Amy23/10/2009 at 08:33

Does Aussie have the same dampness problems as NZ?

no one here seems to know what a dehumidifier is, so I assume not. It might be because it doesn't get so cold outside though so theres not so much moisture inside in winter.

Technically, there is another thread for FIA talk, but I do like that the presidency and Forza 3 are in the same sentence :)

I can now imagine you and Mr C both playing Forza 3, both with one-button driving, and Mr C tries to distract you by going "Look, it's Franck!" You turn round going "Where?!", he tries to ram your car but the autobrake kicks in and he misses and has a big crash. You turn back and find you're winning and Mr C sit there swearing to himself :D

    Okay, here's a game.

If you were setting up an F1 theme park, what rides and attractions would you have?

I reckon the Trulliometron would be a good ride, that just goes from really high to really low. No loop the loops or nothin, just up and down.

I'd complain, to make quali available 5 days afterwards, and even after the race is finished isn't really acceptable.

I'm thinking maybe Sutil Bumper Cars, but that might be more a fair than a theme park.

my favourite fresh bread is bread rolls to be sliced in half with lots of butter, and eaten with a bowl of soup.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 09:44

Key question... How do you cut it? There seems to be some debate.

I think you just have to accept that its not going to be perfect unless you get someone else to cut it, so you just have to cut massive slices. Its the only way

  • Christine23/10/2009 at 09:46

my favourite fresh bread is bread rolls to be sliced in half with lots of butter, and eaten with a bowl of soup.

the problem is someone keeps stealing the spoons in our office. I used to have a bag of plastic ones in my desk but I must have used them all.

You would think a bunch of physicists could come up with a better solution than using a bar stool wouldn't you?

While we're doing incredibly involved jokes here I must mention that on the Adam and Joe podcast they have a feature called "Made up joke party". Where listeners send in jokes that they have definitely made up themselves. Some are very good, and lots of people claim some of them. I have sent in a joke. And I wonder if people here get it... (I did send the explanation in my e-mail)

What company do they use at Hogwarts to deliver all the snakes they need?

    Parsleforce.

Don't worry not many people get Physics / Maths jokes.

Obviously a lot of people know the most famous one...

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

And of course there is the computer nerds version of that joke which is...

There are 1 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who think they understand encoding two states in binary but don't.

as I look at my photos, I am reminded I have not posted these. Inspired by Alex's journey to Paris, I took photos of plane food.

Verdict = train food > plane food.

For my trans-tasman breakfast I was given hot cakes with bacon, fresh fruit salad and a muffin.

    http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07002-jpg

The hot cakes were very rubbery. Bad decision. Next time I shall go for the cereal because its impossible to overcook that.

For my late afternoon North Island to South Island flight I was given a selection of crackers (3) and cheese (2), and 3 grapes.

    http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07066-jpg

They also had a selection of wines but I don't like wine so I had the non-alcoholic choice of L&P.

    http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07067-jpg

    World famous in New Zealand.

I did not photograph my meal on the way back to Melbourne, but it was a venison pie and it was delicious but very small.

Lou said she wanted to see some photos of NZ, this is the only one I took. This was as I was sitting on the couch having my breakfast one morning.

Is it like Jon's bus driver yesterday?

On that note, I forgot to tell you about my train ride yesterday. I sat next to a guy who had all his stuff sprawled over two seats. It was the only seat left, but he still made a point of taking aaages to move his stuff. When I finally sat down, he kept elbowing me.

No bother, I got comfy and ignored it. But we were sitting in the silent compartment - which in Denmark, is pretty strict... you must be silent!

Near the end of the journey (when everyone is waking up anyway), a middle aged woman across the aisle from him had her phone discreetly beep twice. Do you know what Mr. Nasty did? He punched her in the arm and then pointed to the silent sign!

    Couldn't believe it! :O

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 11:19

Is it like Jon's bus driver yesterday?

That bus driver was horrible, and to add to it, the later bus i got on turned out to be one that a) took longer and b) stopped outside a school which clearly the whole school got on. To say it was cramped was an understatement

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 11:20

i've found another flaw in snow leopard (sorry happy place).

the file size dialog no longer reports the correct file size (apparently intentionally), which means i can't fill in the little box on each post with the correct information. now have to upload to ftp and get the file size once done.

I'm not keen on the removal of the Creator tags. Why...

People think they want default applications based on file types if it's a pdf open it in preview or whatever.

But actually if I'm working with pictures I want a picture I created in my camera to open in my camera roll and a picture I created in photoshop to open in photoshop.

    What.

  • Alex Andronov23/10/2009 at 11:40

    In that article:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10330509-263.html

it makes reference to the supposedly bizarre programmer practice of starting counting with 0. (Which one of the geek jokes earlier made a thing about) That's not a bizzare thing it's just smaller. Empty is a state, 0 is a state, 1 is a state. So we start counting a 0 because it saves leaving a gap. We are just being neat.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 11:40

what i object to most. is that this should be an industry thing, where everyone agrees.

apple shouldn't just redefine stuff cause they have no new features in their OS.

Yes... To be clear redefining kilo needs to be industry wide or it's cheating because the same hard drive they were selling yesterday is no mystically bigger.

I was only defending the 0 thing for the "Another bizarre computer convention" not the main article.

We're more than happy to throw stones at anything that doesn't work the way it should.

It's actually the most challenging corner on the whole circuit. Can't they change the start-finish straight into the pitlane and use the pitlane for the main circuit?

I hate that at the end of the long straight, there's that weird kink before the hairpin. WHY??? What's the point? Why not have just a long straight and a hairpin???

It does seem a waste of a hairpin doesn't it? That circuit looks like it was designed to be run clockwise but someone other than Tilke insisted otherwise.

:D they do waddle about. It's very cool.

Ferret's are popular pets and they like to go for a walk I guess. I haven't seen a bunny go for a walk though. or a hamster. Now that would be kinda terrifying I reckon for the poor thing....

Interesting item on Net an Night. They are talking to the guy who owns woopra. Amongst the wonderful info it gives you it can send you a notification in real time if a particular is reading the site before they even comment. Could be useful for tracking nuisance visitors.

It also gives real time info on how many people are on site and what country they are from etc and it is free

    http://www.twit.tv/natn160

  • me23/10/2009 at 15:05

It also gives real time info on how many people are on site and what country they are from etc and it is free

we're using it right now. have been for a while. it's very ropey though, most times i log in their server is unresponsive. they have twitter levels of scalability problems.

  • me23/10/2009 at 15:11

It also gives real time info on how many people are on site and what country they are from etc and it is free

should also add that it's only free if you're site is tiny.

even f1 minute requires the paid version.

  • Christine23/10/2009 at 15:12

What do you mean 'even F1 Minute'? How rude. ;)

    apologies...

should also add that it's only free if you're site is tiny.

for example: f1 minute is far toobig, updated far too regularly and is far, far too popular for the free version... spc is a magnitude more popular again.

Am thinking of changing the title of my podcast to "The Feeder Series

At the moment, on itunes it says "The Feeder Series - Your guide to GP2, Renault 3.5 and Formula 2 News"

I want to get rid of the second bit, meaning that its not just about those series, but other ones to do with M'sport aswell

  • Christine23/10/2009 at 15:47

Am thinking of changing the title of my podcast to "The Feeder Series

Your Guide to the Stars of the Future - GP2, Formula 2, Renault 3.5" and making it about all sorts of formula's, tin tops, gt's, f1 etc.

You could just maybe add an "and more" at the end. I like it having GP2 etc in there, because it does help clarify what it's about, I think.

  • Christine23/10/2009 at 15:48

    "The Feeder Series (mp3)"

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 15:50

    in the description bit

    of each episode

shouldn't it say it in the title? if i search itunes for gp2, you're nowhere to be found.

    Annnnyway.

My question was; what does anyone think about me doing more of a general feeder series podcast, so looking at lots of feeder series, rather than just the f1 ones?

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 15:53

i might add something in the place of it, but im asking more about the concept than the name ;)

How about "Your Guide to the Future Stars Of Motorsport"?

Or have I barked up the wrong tree? (I'm quite good at that)

  • me23/10/2009 at 15:54

My question was; what does anyone think about me doing more of a general feeder series podcast, so looking at lots of feeder series, rather than just the f1 ones?

i'll be honest... i thought that was what you were doing.

    so, it gets my vote.

Exactly. Guess who didn't subscribe to Fi... for a few months because he thought it was a podcast about boxing? :(

  • Nick23/10/2009 at 15:54

Brace yourselves, i have just read the daily and my next post may be mega...

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 15:54

    oh :)

    thats fine then haha

  • Nick23/10/2009 at 15:55

    Mega post.. sorry!

Of this year's circuits I will (after Abu) have been to 17...

hehe, you cant really call it Abu, it means father or dad in arabic!

    Air travel is scary.

Its not too bad... its like a coach journey with more to do :D

NOTE: Announcementy machine = PA System ;)

    I love it!

If you were setting up an F1 theme park, what rides and attractions would you have?

Awesome game! how about the Jamie Algu-slidey (a big slide) The Glock-em cars (dogems) And to steal the truli idea, there should really be a trulli train to help get between all the rides ;)

I'm thinking maybe Sutil Bumper Cars, but that might be more a fair than a theme park.

Nooooo you stole my ideas 6 hours before i had them. I will offer up Kimi's icecream stand as a replacement ;)

But I think I am going to have Pizza for lunch...

Just thought i would bring it up again ;) ... did you?

Guess the corner he crashes on? The problem being that they all look the same...

The north haripin and the bit which goes under the hotel should be recogniseable ;)

I hate that at the end of the long straight, there's that weird kink before the hairpin. WHY??? What's the point? Why not have just a long straight and a hairpin???

I belive it is so they could have a much smaller run off area and have the fans more 'on top' of the track. I expect for UAE touring cars and the like they will avoid the kink

    #f1themepark

Last time I started up Rollercoaster Tycoon 1, I started an F1 themed park there.

It was rubbish though :( Too many shuttle loops.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 16:00

I think as it is it works but if you diversify too much you are not only giving yourself a lot more work but losing focus

In my head the problems i see are

    1) You don't learn anything from it that you wouldn't from a press release

    2) There's no discussion or anything like that, its all fact not opinion.

    3) It's very short

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 16:01

IIIIIIIIIIIII never pulled said red chord!!! twas my mate who was staying over

I was taking my girlfriend to the person who's house she was staying at, its not my fault my friend is incapable of telling the difference between a white and red light switch ;) and the fact that its clearly a disabled room because theres a huuge button outside and in which when you push it opens the door!

Anyway *breathes* the extra work really dosen't bother me at all.

I said that when I was doing 4 different music podcasts, the height of which was 2 a week.

I eventually got fed up, and scaled down, to one massive cast every so often.

    3) It's very short

    1) i don't read gp2 press releases.

    2) that is purely you choice though? extra subject matter won't solve that.

    3) it's longer than f1 minute.

  • Nick23/10/2009 at 16:10

I have just finished my tasks for the day, now i have to get ready to go to london in half an hour...

I need to run my life on sidepodtime ;)

  • RG23/10/2009 at 16:11

    2) There's no discussion or anything like that, its all fact not opinion.

If you want discussion, best way to do it is getting another guy in with ya. Obviously someone who also knows what they are talking about and you can have some good convos about the subject?

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 16:11

    2) that is purely you choice though? extra subject matter won't solve that.

it is my choice, but its all part of a slow change that im making/thinking about making, which makes it less formal, i'm also going to bring other people in to talk with, more interviews, talking about subjects etc etc.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 16:12

Bingo! am slowly getting there, but the only physical people i know (i.e can sit next to me whilst recording) are ones that dont really know anything about anything about from F1, and even some of that knowledge is flawed, but am getting there

Do you have Skype? There are freeware apps that let you record Skype conversations. Or you can do a 2 or 3 way recording, where everyone on the Skype convo records their own voice with Audacity or some other app, and then mix the 3 audio streams together later.

    3) It's very short

How many people ever saw the press releases though?

The opinion will come. First you learn about it and speak to people and soon you will form opinions that you will include. When I first took a serious interest in F1 I ate up and spat out facts and didn't have an opinion. Now I probably have more opinions than facts which is why I am rubbish at quizzes

  • Nick23/10/2009 at 16:22

    i love a volunteer...

I would love to offer assistance, but i am afraid my knowlege of the lower formulee is comparable to Phill tuffnal's knowledge of loans.

    Really really really random question:

    Define the word Book

  • Nick23/10/2009 at 16:32

    Define the word Book

Extended pice of text divided into chapters whic are subsequently subdivided further. It is usualy longer than an article, however it may be shorter depending on the context of the book, for example a childrens book may only have 10-20 lines of text.

The text is commonly, but not alwyas printed and bound with a cover. Several books may be published together to form a bible or digest.

You'll need to be careful how you define it.

I'm not sure anybody would care about the SEAT Eurocup (feeder to WTCC), but they probably would care about Indy Lights especially since a lot of GP2 / WSR / F2 drivers end up there.

no. or at least not as well.

windows are now grouped on the taskbar. the preview shows all document windows.

i guess the advert sucked :)

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 17:08

no. or at least not as well.

    totally did, in every where

windows are now grouped on the taskbar. the preview shows all document windows.

im going to go and find this to see the difference!

  • Lukeh23/10/2009 at 17:13

im going to go and find this to see the difference!

I love the new taskbar. Makes a lot of things so much more easier and organised to get around, especially when I have a stupid amount of windows open. Plus shaking your current window makes everything else minimize if the amount of windows gets out of hand. so cool!

    I'm easily impressed :P

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 17:13

im going to go and find this to see the difference!

just seen it, it now makes sense. the difference for vista is that when items are grouped on the task bar, if you click on it so it shows the options and you can hover over the different documents and see the preview there.

to me, its a bit pointless, but am sure someone somewhere might use it

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 17:20

It's not going well. Every time I try to post a new entry, the text disappears. I managed to get a post up yesterday but this rather important element of a blog platform appears to have thrown a tantrum on me :(

Why does it do that? Are you using an odd OS?

Well I'm home, Forza 3 is in the 360 and I'm installing the disc 2 content :D

Yes the game's that big. You need to install content from a 2nd disc onto your 360's hard drive (provided you have one) which provides additional cars, tracks and environments.

  • Scott Woodwiss23/10/2009 at 18:51

Content has finished installing and disc 1 is back in. Now it begins :D

  • Scott Woodwiss23/10/2009 at 19:01

Just browsing the Storefront and there's some cool paintjobs already. There's a Martini Lancia Delta, a Ken Block Subaru, a Mclaren Merc SL65 and a BMW M5 police car to name what I've seen so far.

  • RG23/10/2009 at 19:02

Lucas di Grassi has been in a F1 car by the sounds of it

Today I have driven the F1 in MotorLand, Aragon, Spain. Only 8 laps on this new high-speed circuit.

When he says F1, is that an old Renault or something?

Last year's model is fine - Ferrari were simply using the 2007 car because that's what their partner organisation had on them (for a team itself to test with an old car would be against the regulations, so it has to be a third party).

Also, looking at the schedule, they're doing a 15 minute shakedown today and a 10 minute exhibition on Sat & Sun so I don't think they'll get loads of data from it, it seems more for PR than anything else

Yes. (It's "Welcome to La Canta Magnfico Blog", if that affects anything).

    also. are you copying text from another window, for example Word? {Comment #714}

Yes. Specifically Openoffice. But I am editing it in the window offered by Wordpress before pressing either "Save as Draft" or "Publish".

  • Lukeh23/10/2009 at 19:56

    what's up with twitter integration?

The 360 works like this; you have your main dashboard, where you can see your friends, look through the marketplace, etc. The main hub if you will, then you put a game in and it loads up the game. On the 360 controller you have the Buide button, which brings up a little menu whilst the game/film/whatever you're doing carries on in the background. So, you can still look at your friends on the Guide or send messages and whatnot without quitting your game.

For some reason, Microsoft have deemed it sensible to build Twitter into the dashboard and make it completely unnaccessbile via the Guide button. So, if you want to tweet during a game, you quite the game, find it on the Dashboard, tweet, go back off Twitter, then load the game back up.

If you can message, chat, view friends and do almost anything else on the guide, then how obvious is it that Twitter should be accessible in the same way? Seems a real missed opportunity to me...

  • me23/10/2009 at 19:58

Yes. (It's "Welcome to La Canta Magnfico Blog", if that affects anything).

there is already a published post called that. could you try something like TEST?

Yes. Specifically Openoffice. But I am editing it in the window offered by Wordpress before pressing either "Save as Draft" or "Publish".

could you try typing plain text directly into a fresh post please?

  • me23/10/2009 at 20:00

If you can message, chat, view friends and do almost anything else on the guide, then how obvious is it that Twitter should be accessible in the same way? Seems a real missed opportunity to me...

agreed. but it would give twitter a lot of prominence. and you might not message/chat as much.

I have a really random question. My admission I have never worked in an open plan office - I have operated out of prefabs for many many years now. End of this year we move into new open-plan top floor (pent house) offices - that is simply one huge room for lecturer and post-grads with affiliated Institution staff. There will be up to sixty of us in this central space (no outside windows, actually the building has no openable windows - just walls of glass on all four sides). There are no real partitions either - just like large work space tables scattered with large monitors defining the spaces. I feel intimidated? Does anyone have experience working in such an environment or should I be brushing up my CV? Do I need to find the finance to install sound masking will noise be an issue. It is going to be a huge paradigm shift from working in ground floor shack that I can just walk out into the garden any time with a cuppa in hand and release the dog for a run to where you have to use lifts (stairs are alarmed and only to be use in emergencies) and everything is glass with an unmentionable number of security cameras.

Gavin's right. I work in an open plan office, there is noise but you get used to zoning it out & just focus on your own thing. It will take time to get used to so don't worry if it's really weird on the first day

Obviously I share close space with my own post-grads none of our doors are ever closed and my dogs generally goes a visits who ever she wants during the day - but everyone together as one big department.

I think, like most things, some people will like it and some people won't like it. I find it tough to concentrate in that sort of environment, but YMMV.

  • me23/10/2009 at 20:20

Thanks - so do your work in this sort of environment. In sleepy Cape Town there are few places like this and they have mostly been lots of complaints.

i have done. it doesn't bother me either way. it varies from person to person, but also, from company to company.

It is very causal - sure she is registered to be allowed on campus with an identity card- one of my post-grad students also sometimes brings his dog onto campus. It is not really an issue, students take her for walks and she provides some protection/deterrent to theft.

She has not eaten any notes - we have a long passage with a security gate at the end and so when someone comes to visit she takes the security access button to them to let them in and accompanies them to the office (gave up on the electronic locks the field mice kept eating the wires)

She is 3/4 domestic and 1/4 jackal so looks like an African Township special with a good dose of terrier to add attitude - she is on Jenson Button's web page under fans and I think 8 or 9 back from current. 21 Burglaries this year - the last time she went after the guy and returned with some of his trouser around the seat area - that was in June and have had no more incidents.

Lots of leaks when it rains (usually in different place) - lots of noise from trees rubbing branches on the tin-roof - when it hails its deafening. It is a bit spooky at night but no known ghosts.

Hey I like that - I have a lot of junk like publications, books, research reports and we have to keep every student's assignment every handed to me in a filed systems for 15 years together with each assignment's plagiarism statement (they have not committed) plus all of the committee reports that I have to keep (its Africa so we have lots of them - actually they are stacked one on top of the other and have reached the ceiling).

Oh damn - forgot that the pic is old and does not include the star wars lego figures on my monitor!

    That is fun.

I am partly responsible for the look, the other lecturers have each gone for long lines of classical cubicles for each post-grad (sort of padded cell), me being different I went for "work islands" - figuring if you go open plan do it fully! So they are are in a figure of eight so each pulls away diagonally away from their space when they get up to prevent knocking the person at the adjacent work island. We were allocated space according to how many Msc and PhDs you had graduated in the last five years an MSc gets 2.54 sq m and a PhD 3.21 sq m you have a n open desk in such a space.

  • Scott Woodwiss23/10/2009 at 21:28

I remember during my PhD I gradually gravitated outwards from my allocated space swallowing up desks as people left. Not so much a work island as a work megopolis.

I remember during my PhD I gradually gravitated outwards from my allocated space swallowing up desks as people left. Not so much a work island as a work megopolis.

I figured students numbers would expand and contract so while four are allocated to each table as per design if there were fewer they could encroach. The sneaky bit is the university authorities have not worked out 50% of my students are distanced based so the are not even in Cape Town so I will have more space. Case of graduate more students get more space for your empire.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 21:45

    What happened?

I had a bungled pit stop caused by poor strategy decisions....

Basically I left a bit late for work. I was gonna be about 5 minutes late anyways then I notice that the fuel warning light is on. I have 25 miles down the motorway to go and can't guarantee I'll make it so I stop at Tesco. There's a huge queue, I wait forever, fill up etc etc. Then I go to get my wallet and I don't have it.....

I spend the next 10 minutes rooting around in my boot/pockets/floor for money to pay for it. Have to 'borrow' a pound from an old man.... All the cars were tooting at me :(

  • RG23/10/2009 at 21:46

I spend the next 10 minutes rooting around in my boot/pockets/floor for money to pay for it. Have to 'borrow' a pound from an old man.... All the cars were tooting at me :(

And thats why they are banning refuelling.

Oh, its just for f1, shame.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 21:46

To add to this, there were also roadworks on the motorway, I was half an hour late to work and I think I've got a speeding ticket off one of those mobile van thingies....

  • Scott Woodwiss23/10/2009 at 21:48

Now moved on to my next car, the VW Scirocco. Given it racing suspension, brakes and weight reduction along with a racing exhaust.

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 21:48

To add to this, there were also roadworks on the motorway, I was half an hour late to work and I think I've got a speeding ticket off one of those mobile van thingies....

I think they're checking whether you've got Road Tax/Insurance tbh.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 21:50

I think they're checking whether you've got Road Tax/Insurance tbh.

A bright yellow van with huge speed camera logos on the side and a big camera hanging out the window? I hope so. Those are two things I do have.....

I'll be annoyed if I get a ticket. I was hardly speeding at all.... My car can't really get much above 70 at the best of times :P

  • Steven Roy23/10/2009 at 21:50

I spend the next 10 minutes rooting around in my boot/pockets/floor for money to pay for it. Have to 'borrow' a pound from an old man.... All the cars were tooting at me :(

That is a real pain. I have found myself with a full tank of petrol and no way of paying for it on 3 or 4 occasions . I went in and said I don't have any money but I will be back with some in twenty minutes. One guy insisted on me leaving my tax disc but the others just noted down my car's number.

  • Steven Roy23/10/2009 at 21:52

You had a really bad morning. If you are going to be late for work there is no point speeding.

I wasn't doing it on purpose!!! I don't really speed. My car is too feeble.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 21:55

It is a very bad day for me all round tbh. Masterchef has now finished! No more Michel until next year :( :( :(

He is still on the iplayer

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 21:55

I'll be annoyed if I get a ticket. I was hardly speeding at all.... My car can't really get much above 70 at the best of times :P

If you were doing speed limit, +10%, +2mph on top, you'd still be ok, just.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)23/10/2009 at 21:56

I got given a 4GB USB stick in the shape of an aeroplane today!

    Well, mine spins...

I had an okay day at work. Too stressful though. People should be banned from phoning in sick.

How does it get bigger between the two pictures?

  • Rich23/10/2009 at 21:58

That is a real pain. I have found myself with a full tank of petrol and no way of paying for it on 3 or 4 occasions . I went in and said I don't have any money but I will be back with some in twenty minutes. One guy insisted on me leaving my tax disc but the others just noted down my car's number.

Most of our petrol pumps have a shop where you can draw money - actually a mini teller - you draw a notification note from the ATM with your withdrawal and you go to the counter and get your cash.

What if you don't have your bank card? That was the problem I had.... We can jsut pay with our card at the counter....

You avoid carrying cash here but at garages you have to use a special garage card or cash - a normal credit card is not accepted.

  • lou23/10/2009 at 22:03

oooh she's back!! did you have fun? take lots of pictures?

i had great fun! yeah i did... over 800.. (most very grainy though :( i didn't realise the photography teacher had changed the iso on my camera till about 20mins ago.. gah!).

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:04

Ahhh okay. I find some cash lying around can be useful ;) Where is here?

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 22:04

Basically I left a bit late for work. I was gonna be about 5 minutes late anyways then I notice that the fuel warning light is on. I have 25 miles down the motorway to go and can't guarantee I'll make it so I stop at Tesco. There's a huge queue, I wait forever, fill up etc etc. Then I go to get my wallet and I don't have it.....

Just think how things would have gone if you'd run out on the motorway? you would have been in a far worse position then, and very dangerous.

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 22:05

Evening all, how are we all? had a nice day?

    Hi Jon

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:05

Just think how things would have gone if you'd run out on the motorway? you would have been in a far worse position then, and very dangerous.

Hahaha yes. That's why I stopped even though I knew it'd make me late. What I really should have done is fill up yesterday when the light came on and I had my wallet with me....

  • Rich23/10/2009 at 22:05

If you were doing speed limit, +10%, +2mph on top, you'd still be ok, just.

I thought the UK was strict on speeding - here the leniency is about 5 km/h

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:07

If you were doing speed limit, +10%, +2mph on top, you'd still be ok, just.

i heard that was actually rubbish, because i know someone who had to go to a speed awareness course thingy, and there were people who were within the 10%

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:07

i heard that was actually rubbish, because i know someone who had to go to a speed awareness course thingy, and there were people who were within the 10%

Yeah, there are certain penalties for certain speeds and it varies with area.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:08

You wouldn't go on a speed awareness course for speeding on the motorway though. It's normally for slightly exceeding the limit in a residential area.

  • lou23/10/2009 at 22:09

booooo. surely she should know what she was doing? /he?

he was playing with my camera over dinner on wednesday and i didn't notice he'd changed the iso (probably because it was pretty dark in the resturant)...in fact i never thought he would have changed the iso, seeing as he wasn't taking photos with it.. and i didn't even think to check. big doh from me :(

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:09

i like the idea of going on a speed awareness course and learning just how far you can push the limit!

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:12

    That's 15-17.5% though...

but she was over the 40 so it dosent matter

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 22:12

    yeah, she was 46-7 in a 40

i got caught doing 39 in a 30, when I genuinely thought it was a 40 zone. I took the points, i didn't want to take the course.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:13

i like the idea of going on a speed awareness course and learning just how far you can push the limit!

3 points and a fine, or 0 points and £10 more than that original fine.

    eaaaaaasy choice

  • Maverick23/10/2009 at 22:13

    yeah, she was 46-7 in a 40

    46 IS 10% + 2

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:13

i got caught doing 39 in a 30, when I genuinely thought it was a 40 zone. I took the points, i didn't want to take the course.

    how come?

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:13

    46 IS 10% + 2

wheres all this come from? ive never heard +2

the sign says 40, if you're doing over that, whatever it is, then you're breaking the law

  • Steven Roy23/10/2009 at 22:14

3 points and a fine, or 0 points and £10 more than that original fine.

    Os that an option now?

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:14

i got caught doing 39 in a 30, when I genuinely thought it was a 40 zone. I took the points, i didn't want to take the course.

??? Are you mad? You're obviously a lot older than me... I couldn't afford to drive again with points on my licence :P

  • me23/10/2009 at 22:14

    eaaaaaasy choice

i know. i just think it's a failure of the system to put a collection of wrongdoers in one place so they can compare notes.

everybody left the course wiser... but likely not in the intended way.

  • lou23/10/2009 at 22:15

Does that mean the photos you took after that will not be as good as you thought?

it means while the composition may be alright, the quality is kinda shocking... it's all grainy.. not good. i'll see what i can do in photoshop tomorrow. it's sad cause looking through my photos on my camera they didn't look too bad..

anyways, i've have 3 very intensive very exhausting days and can't physically keep my eyes open anymore. so sleep for me.

i'll catch up with everything in the morning, night all! xx

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:15

    Os that an option now?

Not necessarily. It depends on your local police force. Even if your force offer the courses as a mainstream thing, it's allocated on a case by case basis.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:15

everybody left the course wiser... but likely not in the intended way.

its not just a course, you have to also do 5 online tests which you have to pass over a 30 day period with 4 days between each one.

its not just a sit there and try not to fall asleep anymore

  • Steven Roy23/10/2009 at 22:16

    Night Lou

  • me23/10/2009 at 22:16

its not just a sit there and try not to fall asleep anymore

again though, i'm not questioning how tough the course is.

  • me23/10/2009 at 22:18

    i guess. maybe individual rooms?

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:20

    i guess. maybe individual rooms?

if people are sitting in a room with others, they're more likely to pay attention then than if they are sitting in a booth where there is a possibility they could fall asleep which watching a film about it.

    i would anyway

  • Maverick23/10/2009 at 22:20

the sign says 40, if you're doing over that, whatever it is, then you're breaking the law

I think I get stuck behind you a lot. ;-)

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:21

    http://www.speedlimit.org.uk/faq.html

    well firstly. 20 + 10% + 2 doesnt equal 25 ;)

but like i said before, to me, if you're over the signed speed limit, then you have no excuse.

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 22:21

I think I get stuck behind you a lot. ;-)

haha, luckily for you i am rarely on the roads! i'll drive at the speed limit, but not over it

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 22:22

??? Are you mad? You're obviously a lot older than me... I couldn't afford to drive again with points on my licence :P

Yes I'm mad. I don't pay the insurance, it's a company vehicle, and it was my first offence in 11 years of driving. I wasn't thinking clearly. (That's not to say I've not been stupid in my younger years. I've been very very lucky.)

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 22:23

but like i said before, to me, if you're over the signed speed limit, then you have no excuse.

    I agree.

  • Alianora La Canta23/10/2009 at 22:24

I've had some good news on the blog front. My co-admin has got back to me and told me he is attempting to rescue the server (the domain name expired while his computer was being fixed and he didn't tell me there was any danger of this happening beforehand).

So maybe the problems I'm having with Wordpress won't be such a problem any more.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:25

Fair enough. I wasn't suggesting you'd learn from the course. I would just want to keep my insurance down. If you don't pay it, it makes more sense.

  • RG23/10/2009 at 22:26

So maybe the problems I'm having with Wordpress won't be such a problem any more.

    yay :)

And on that note, am too shattered to talk, so night. lotsa love.

Thing is I probably would. Anyone who thinks they are a good driver are fooling themselves. I am certainly not.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:30

Oh my god. I'm beginning to realise how busy I've been. Somehow 5 days worth of f1 minute have managed to build up.

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 22:31

Thing is I probably would. Anyone who thinks they are a good driver are fooling themselves. I am certainly not.

I dunno. I know my highway code pretty well. I only passed my test 3 years ago. It doesn't seep out your head that quickly. I would say most people fall down at the observation stage.

I'm pretty settled in limbo at the moment tbh. Every aspect of my life is pretty much on hold.

It's not meant to be a "DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE" type post, it just makes you think, for some it'll just make them think, others it'll make no difference, but maybe just 1 person will deeply think about what they are doing and why, and change because they're bored with life.

its that person im writing too, but you wont know which you are until you read it. but im asking those questions lots at the moment for me, so maybe im just writing for myself

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 23:10

Jon do you think you could record yourself asking those questions? I'd like to stick that at the end of the next cast.

I've got the beginning of this piece of music in mind as the background

    i like it lots!

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 23:15

You've just started uni though! Are you not liking it?

I love uni, and my course. But for a very long time i've wanted to be a primary school teacher, and i still really do, the reason i took this course is because i had to move on, a-levels really werent doing it for me, and i was really ill for hte last 18 months so i missed out on my top uni choices, so im looking at the options of doing a teaching degree starting next year, they will take a pass in the first year of this course as the entry requirements, im going to apply and see what happens, but i dont have to properly decide until feb-march-may time anyway, so it leaves my options open

  • startledbunny23/10/2009 at 23:16

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 23:21

Oh okay. Just take your time and don't be scared of time out. It's not the end of the universe.

in the grand scheme of things if i had to stay where i was for the next 3 years it would be fine, but i spent the last 18 months going no-where, sometimes literally stuck in my room because i was too exhausted to get out. i dont want to have a career in my motorsport, im doing it because i love it, but teaching is what im about, so its just a case of now or in 3 years

  • Alison23/10/2009 at 23:23

What's was wrong with you (if that's not too personal a question?)

  • Jon Waldock23/10/2009 at 23:30

What's was wrong with you (if that's not too personal a question?)

its totally not personal really. i got really ill all of a sudden and basically burned out, had chronic fatigue for 18 months starting march last year, and im still not fully over it. plus i got quite bad depression too which didnt help things. chronic fatigue can come out as many different things, but for me i couldnt concentrate at all for more than 20-40 minutes a day, and not in chunks of that size, which makes A-Level maths and physics a tad tougher. im still pretty amazed i passed all my subjects, and even got an A in a business module.

my thing is not wasting the time you've got on earth, part of thats a faith based thing about using the gifts gods given you. in 2 years i've had 2 under 15's that i know die, and someone else close to me die this week. i just feel like a life where someones bored all the time, or not fullfillng their potential is almost a bit wasted.

my thing si teaching, it has been for ages, and i've seen teh impact a good teacher can make. my friend from secondary school has autism, which at the beginning of year 7 meant he couldnt be near any loud noises or in a crowded room, last month we went to see muse with 10,000 other people with noise levels that made my organs vibrate, it was my form tutor that changed him, that guided him. if i could do one zillionth of that kind of goodness towards a child, i'd say thats a life fullfilled.

    sorry for the long post

Fair enough. I'm not in any great hurry to get on with my life. I've spent the past few years working so hard it makes me sick. Somehow I've managed to end up there again.... I just want to take some time to relax without having to make big life choices.

    I'm the anti-Jon :P

I dunno, you don't have to be doing something big and bold to be fufulling your life. You (generally :P) seem to enjoy your job, seems to be one of those where you work your self silly for 12-14 hours and whilst you slump into a chair you have a smile on your face or similar. i may be wrong ;)

I do like my job. I'm a chronic over achiever! I really need to work up the motivation to go back and finish my degree at some point though.

I'm not fulfilling my potential academically at all. I'd be wasting my talents if I did this my whole life. I'm just very good at working myself into the ground. That said, most of my friends graduated last summer and loads of them have rubbishy jobs atm....

Don't even get me started on my relationship :P Somehow I've ended up in a very serious relationship but still find myself living like a cat lady.

    Whats stopping you?

    Whats stopping you?

Same sorts of issues that you seemed to have I think. I don't really have a lot of contact with my family at all. This gave me really bad financial trouble at uni as I'm not eligible to be classed as independent so I'm still assessed on their income.

I didn't have enough money to live on so I worked full time while studying. I just got to the stage where I didn't know whether I was awake or asleep..... I took a year out to recover my thoughts and get it together. Then I errrrm took another year this September as I hadn't saved up enough to stop it happening again.

I didn't mean your family hate you.... Just that I have exhaustion issues and have given myself a rather miserable time of it the past couple of years.

Have you tried talked to the uni about finance and stuff? They're usually pretty hot on that kind of thing. Especially being classed as independant and ting
