It seems as though all the talking that the teams and Max did yesterday has cheered them up a little, even if they haven't come to any kind of conclusion yet. This is good as we're heading straight back into the racing today, with Free Practice and Qualifying. Meanwhile, here's what we've been discussing:
- Rumour has it that Jacques Villeneuve would be open and willing to return to F1, as it's current regulations appeal to him. He's also not exactly shone in NASCAR, so perhaps he's looking for a return to Europe. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Would Mr C be sad if he gave up the singing?
- Also in the news, Paul Ricard are tempted to make a bid for the French Grand Prix - although they missed out on the last selection round. Recently we saw a protest by locals to the current location, that involved tractors, so perhaps it would be less embarrassing all round for the racing to return to an actual race track.
- By the way, have you seen the little sidebar banner on GrandPrix.com. It might be weird to be mentioning this over here, as you probably already know about An Aside with Joe, but it's very cool to see that over there. Big thanks to the GrandPrix.com team.
- Finally, the epitome of awesomeness: Fake Sidepodcast on Twitter. My life is complete.
That'll do it for now. We'll be opening up threads during the day for FP3 and Qualifying, so please join us if you're around for those sessions. As ever, I will see you in the comments.
Happy birthday to Mr Rubens Barrichello! :D yaaaaaay!
Although I'm off to bed... hope you all enjoy qualifying later today. Night everyone :)
"Also in the news, Paul Ricard are tempted to make a bid for the French Grand Prix - although they missed out on the last selection round. I thought the track wasn't in a fit state to host races any more. Last I heard, the track surface and what was underneath it had been ruined because of all the water they'd dumped onto it when they used to drench the circuit for wet weather simulations. Did they just do a complete resurface? Must have done if they're allowing racing to take place there again. I only know this because a round of the FIA GT3 championship is being run there in a few months.
Go Longitudinal Inertia!!!!
JV's supposedly a Chief Driving Instructor at a racing school the have set up at Mirabel International Airport outside of Montreal....
With all these supposed extra F1 teams in F1 next year you do wonder where are they going to find the drivers and Frankly, Ferrari based on their position this year could hold the numbers 27 and 28 cars so a Villeneuve and 27 in a Ferrari has to be worth a second a lap.
Both Ferrari drivers have not been impressive this year so they might be looking for two drivers. Give Alonso one seat and....
Paul Ricard was discussed earlier.
Very convenient announcement with all the politics going on and may help with Ferrari's court case should they appeal.
Mmm, but I'm still wondering how that circuit is in a fit state to hold races again after all the water damage they did to it.
I doublt that it will hold a race. I hink it is only getting a political race. The circuit they are trying to build in Paris is having problems so threatening to take the race to the opposite end of the country will get the Paris politicians onside.
Of course if push comes to shove Paul Ricard is a test track and there is no testing.
It does still get used. The FIA GT3s were holding a test there last month I think. I read about it in Top Gear Magazine.
First Ferrari threatens too leave F1. Then, JV threatens to return. What is the third sign of the F1 apocalypse?
He's been running it for years.
They don't pay as much as F1 does though. Nothing comes close to what F1 pays
James Allen gets a lifetime achievement award for broadcasting
Anyone got this week's Autosport?? I finally got the chance to flick through it - and there's an ad from Litespeed GP looking for personnel!
PR by any chance?
PA to Technical Director, but no PR.
absolutely. what's the betting every submission ends up in the shredder?
they are looking to poach, they only want people with prior f1 experience
i guess that means ex test team staff
No, but there are 19 other positions... basically several key F1 positions that an F3 National Class team wouldn't have...
I've just read the question properly. I'm so stupid sometimes.
Ah, just got your meaning :-)
So yeah, probably is.
We both did the same...
Darn, came up with a quasi-sciencitific answer to "What happens when you mix Sidepodcast and fake sidepodcast together" and no one checks.....
(Yesterday's post)...
sidepodspace update
It looks like the best bet for the shuttle landing tomorrow will be 07:46am Pacific / 3:46pm UK at Edwards Air Force Base in California. There is an slightly earlier slot at Kennedy but it looks like the weather is not going to let that happen.
Strange that an Fake F1 account gets so many followers in just a few hours since inception
I just read it. Sounds like a reasonable hypothesis.
There goes another million dollars...
Glad they found a suitable alternative to Ste Devote, that was a safety car waiting to happen
Thank's Steven. Now, hopefully no one is brave enough to test this....
The fear of it happening has prompted us all into willing it never does with the power of silence & "la la la, I can't hear you" :D
So long as Mr C can hold his nerve, then all will be just fine.
By the minute
Reminds me of Bill Hicks: "Pull up G12"
What does that do? ;)
$1million is the approximate cost of returning the shuttle to Florida after a landing at Edwards
Destroys everything apart from their fillings ;)
Nicely censored. :D
I do not know, Andy. You would have try real hard to mess up a landing at Edwards AFB.... In the old days, I am sure that why the Military gave NACA/NASA Edwards so that the "Civilian" pilots did not crash that often....
Hehe. I was talking about the cost of transporting the shuttle back to the Kennedy space centre.
If shuttles only cost a million, we could race them instead of f1 cars.
You know, with Sidepodcast trying to takeover the F1 world, why is it that we never seem to at least see Me's arm storking a White Persian Cat and addressing Christine as "Number 2?"....
ok i'm off to sleep now night all! i'll see you all in the morning for fp3! x
night lou, at least they made it a slightly less harsh 10am
Is cat storking legal?
Good night lou
Well, in NASA's defence, in the old days they never thought of actually landing the spacecraft on earth. So the Cape was built to send rocket into space.
Once they came up with landing the spacecraft, it just so happens that the best palce to do so wasa bout 3,000 miles away on the other side of the country.... Governemnt planning at its best.
I'm heading off too, morning all, see you later for FP3 maybe.
You know what I mean, Steven....
Can anyone get Steven to stand on top of a trap door?
i have absolutely no idea what to say to our fake selves?
Funny though
Next on Eurosport 2, Live Cat Storking
Maybe it's best, for the good of the Universe
i believe it might be.
The shuttle only has half a dozen flights to go before we go back to an Apollo type vehicle
I just thought cat storking sounded interesting.
I am standing on a square thing just now and there is a big red button next to me
Phew. Everyone breathe out.
It's had a good run for something that was designed in the seventies
Then again, Concorde used 50's technology
Large Hadron Collider's got nothing on this place
I hope somebody's kept the blueprints. I would hate it if NASA has to do all those experiments of trying to get the rocket to last longer than the launch tower before blowing up !
For the record, I'd just like to say that Team Bassano is still considering it's options for 2010 and we are still 'talking to people'
We are also rather miffed that we didn't get invited to Flav's soiree
First test is next month so we should not have long to wait. The tested the parachutes this week and they passed with flying colours. I guess being lobbed out of the back of a C17 with a weight attached is not the sameas doing a few million miles in space and then opening at 100,000 feet
i thought the cool kids were publishing denials this week?
It is a sad fact that a lot of the expertise of the Apollo era is lost forever.
You've got to have a rumour before the denial. Then comes the confirmation.
Followed by the withdrawal
The Saturn 5 designs were lost years ago sadly.
Did they lose them in the transfer to floppy disks?
and also the lunar rover blueprints!
Dr. Zira, Dr. Galen and Dr. Zaius and Cornelius all disagree with you "me".
Stupid Monekys...
i'm betting that's a movie reference? i have no idea what though.
Fake Mosley & Fake Mika are having a rather curious converstion, best not repeated here ;)
Seriously?
Several sequels and a rather tiresome re-hash
Planet of the Apes. '68 version.
ahhh. with the big black slab thing?
Mr C: Do you use transcribing software for your shows?
http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/22/friday-favorite-transcriva/
You have to be kidding me, right?
The Monolith is from 2001: A Space Odyessey
i use a transcribing person. she's sleeping right now though.
I suspected as much :D
ooh, right. thought it had monkeys in the clip i watched.
carry on. nothing to see here.
I think you can click to wake her up?
:D
Mr C, back of the class please
See me after school
Then there's the musical: "I hate every ape I see, from Chimpan-a to Chimpan-zee, no you'll never make a monkey out of me..."
Actually, I'd rather not. Thanks all the same ;)
Yikes!
A cold boot should work. :P
In "2001", the monkeys evolved into man via the Monolith. (First 10 minutes of the movie).
In "Planet", well from some unexplained way, Apes have learned to talk and take over the planet.
It's from The Simpsons.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVr1n1ha-LA
Night all
Sigh of relief
Am still in shock that Mr C hasn't seen or recalls correctly POTA or 2001
He shall not mock Christine again [well, for a week or two at least]
night andy.
Ta
G'night Andy
apologies :(
Put them on the list please :)
hehe.
Agreed.
Scary, isn't it? Makes one wonder if "me" understood the movie "Spaceballs"?
You escaped with a slap on the wrist, there me... If I was running SIPEPODCAST, failure would be rewarded with a dipping into the pirranha tank...
i most certainly did. at least the star wars bits anyhow...
I see your schwartz is as big as mine
A questionable quote that one
Moving on ;)
And after that quote, I can only quote:
"Well, there goes the planet..."
So here's a question. I've got a couple days off, should I fly to London and catch the race at some pub or stay home and watch with the pc. I've never been to London, so suggestions are welcome.
F1 not watched a great deal in pubs here
Best watched with mates (in person or via SPC) unless you have info on a particular f1 mad pub IMHO
Where would you be flying from?
OK cool, thought it might've been a pub thing out there. I'm in Canada.
wha?
why not go a little bit further and fly to monnaco
Ya I work for an airline, so very cheap travel.
I'll be in Montreal in early July hopefully
Actually, this is a holiday weekend in UK so a lot of people are off doing things with the family. Watching sport is proobably not one of them
Me too, BA
Travel is cheap tickets and hotels aren't, unfortunately.
Apparently, it's what us airline folk do
I went to Hong Kong for the weekend a few years ago
You're nuts..
But you could fly to Nice.
another world!
not hong kong obviously, just your lives.
Hoping to go there soon, got a buddy at Cathay.
Via Paris and kip in a sleeping bag? :D
I wonder if a few pubs do show it. I just assume it is wall to wall football, and since I'm usually in front of my own TV or someone else's, I never had a reason to check..
If you fancy a hangar visit, just holla
Heathrow, not Hong Kong ;)
is that cinema chain still showing races? that would be kinda cool.
Check out all the tourist traps that London has to offer I guess.
Tower of London / Waterloo Barracks (Crown Jewels stored here)
Madame Tusaard's Wax Museum
Britsh Museum
London Dungeon
Sherlock Holmes Museum
etc, etc, etc.
But the way you have your question stated it should be obivous to stay at home if you are going to London sorely to see a race on TV anyway.... :D
Am watching an F3 Euroseries race now at Hockenheim. Apparently, they're complaining that the race is a procession due to the cars' overreliance on aero grip... Hmmm...
No idea..
Can only recall football or World Cup Rugby
Our only agreement is with AC. So Paris would be the closest I could get.
honest? that would be amazing.
...i may have to clear it with the lady though. apparently you're a bad influence or something ;)
The occasional one does - rarely though. :(
She can come too, keep us in check
That would be awesome!
trying to catch up on 1000 comments from yesterday. could be here a while.
oooh, tempting. i'll ask in the morn.
*waves*
Don't the hive read it as it happens?
Hrm. And there was I considering looking for one showing Indy so I didn't have to watch a tiny little stream on the computer...
F3 has been processional for 20 years
stupid 15 hour sleep :(
Will find out some details next week too, may bring you in on a professional technology podcast basis or something ;)
Really? I thought it was OK back in the 1990s...
I want one of those please.
Am trying to 2 laps of Spa in an f3 car and keep the front wing in Racedriver: GRID
:D
Awww... No worries - it's the weekend! :D
again?
hehe. we can interview you about... acoustics?
ooh, actually aero and how it relates to racing?
15 hours?
What happened?
I know, it's becoming overly frequent and I have a reputation to uphold!
We have very good composites and graphics workshops
The cars have been underpowered since the 70s. They don't really have that much downforce they just have no power. There used to be a Formula Atlantic championship which had slightly more downforce and more mechanical grip but they had really good 1600cc engines (BDAs I think) and they were awesome.
genius!
Our powerplant workshop may not be as relevant. 20ft+ diameter gas turbines and all
you'd get a good kers recovery if you were powered by one of them.
Oh yeah, carbon fibre brakes and magnesium wheels at the Wheels & Brakes workshop. Loads of angles, this could need a good pitch in the wings.
F1 & Aero Technology, good for us, good for you. Low cost for all
*pun not intended*
agreed. i likes it. if there's anything we can do to help, just yell.
Lotus used a gas turbine - in the Lotus 56.
Also had four wheel drive too.
really? that must've been mental!
They're into community spirit at the moment and improving their image wherever possible in this climate.
I'll speak to my bosses on Tuesday and test the waters
They might say no, but notihng ventured...
Santa Pod still have the Jet Car don't they on the 1/4 mile?
Jim Clark loved it - sadly died before he could race it @ Indy 500
Hugely powerful - 500bhp and 1100lb/ft of torque 8O
Guess what happened to it? BANNED!
One may be running soon too. Classic Team Lotus have plans. ;)
If time allows in the next couple of weeks, think of an example of a tech related podcast you've done that might be a good example to get them to listen too
(I'm thinking the museum picnic may not be the best)
I'm thinking their KERS episode may be very good for this...
Thank you Journeyer, sounds great
Just edit out the pub visit afterwards ;)
:D
Never seen or heard the turbine car running. I have seen still pictures.
Rover ran a turbine at Le Mans. Rover-BRM I think
They haven't been running since '71 I think.
Seen it up close though - lovely bit of design.
Any idea it was single or twin spool?
HP and LP stages
kers for 5 year-olds springs to mind. but i'll speak to the oracle.
Cool
Powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6 iirc.
Wikipedia:
low-pressure three-stage axial compressor, then into a single-stage centrifugal compressor, through the annular reverse-flow combustion chamber, and finally through a single-stage turbine that powers the compressors at about 45,000 rpm
Ok, turboshaft rather than jet, which makes sense I s'pose
Interseting mix of Axial AND Centrifugal compressors
Right, must be off to bed to make it up for FP3 and breakfast before qualifying
Chat tomorrow folks
see ya bassano.
night
good night!
I'd better send the drunken girlies home and get to bed.
Very funny watching them watching a horror film.
What?
Watched Day 1 WRC Highlights from Sardinia.
Loeb stopped on the track to ensure he's not 1st tomorrow - and to ensure that he's not the roadsweeper! I've never seen that done before, to come to a complete stop... :O
right i am all caught up. all i have to say from yesterdays comments is that this years fashion show is not as good as last years as there are no Finnish people having Finnish laughs on the sidelines. Boooo.
was there a link to it somewhere in there?
My other half is away and the neighbours took me out to a comedy club - and got sloshed.
Then came back to the flat and I fed them and laughed at them watching horror films.
Well, 10 pm EDT, and I am going to Toronto tomorrow all day tomorrow. Nothing exotic ==> it's not Montreal after all. But have to get up early on a non-racing day...
VCR is set to capture qual, so do not worry about myself. Worry about "me" who's lack of sci-fi movies is disturbing...
Ahhhh. Sounds like fun.
I need better neighbours
you're gonna have to explain that to me?
I was browsing here
i feel i've let you down
Sadly - I'm perfectly sober.
It wont let me click!
Night chaps and ladychaps
night flibster.
ahh the link is super long, basically i went to gettyimages.com and typed in 'amber fashion 2009'
night!
Night
cheers
I dont think Vettel could look more German if he tried
The cars in rallying run un order with the order changed each day. So the person leading the rally is the first car through all the stages tomorrow. Trouble is there is usually a load of gravel and the like that is cleared by the first few cars so the road is actually faster if you are running fifth than first. So it is not unknown for someone to get close to the end of a day and calculate what time they need to do on the last stage of the day to avoid running in the top 3 or whatever the next say.
It's just like a track rubbering in
The thing is he is half Enflish. His father is German but his mother is English. That's why he knows about and gets Monty Python
ahh, ok. a bit like single lap qually?
Yes. Except the advantage lasts all day
gotya. ta.
This man looks very german http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/vet-jpg
Full details http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75512
this is an insane way to race though:
"You can't do it much more wrong than I did just now. This is really, really bad. I didn't slow down enough. I didn't believe that Loeb would slow down so much. Completely my mistake."
someone annoyed for not slowing down as much as his rival?
Its racing jim, but not as we know it.
It is somethng that has always been a problem but as a result of the magnificent way Max has managed rallying there are very few competitive cars so it is easier to fiddle. If there were 20 competitive cars it would be impossible to guarantee that you are going to run P3 to P6. You could easily end up 20th and have to make up time on cars that had an advantage from th previous day. Also the top class cars do ridiculous amounts of damage to the surface so if you run 15th the surface is a mess and slow.
somehow, i'm just not surprised :)
must sleep all. catch ya tomorrow.
see ya in a few hours
Good night. I won't be up much longer myself
night, and i must hit the hay too, the glory of fp3 awaits
I am so bored waiting for FP3 that I have just read all the FIA Press kit for Monaco. I did not know that Senna and Hakkinen started the same number of races, at 161 a piece. Now I do. Who needs school when you have the FIA?
Funny, I was saving that for the downtime between FP3 and quali.
Morning peeps.
Gym was empty this morning. Which was nice.
Hello to everyone.
It is a nice day. It must be, I am wearing a skirt for the first time in... well, the last girly thing I wore was my wedding dress, so there.
Anyway, must write live post.
Good morning
absolutely. what’s the betting every submission ends up in the shredder? {Comment #15}
I don't think they'll end up in the shredder. For all that I think it will be an effectively temporary set of appointments (i.e. until early next year), I can see some applicants being successful.
So this Fake Sidepodcast thing.
Just going to sulk in the corner. Nice to know that there are favourites... Grrr.
Strange that an Fake F1 account gets so many followers in just a few hours since inception {Comment #23}
It's because there's now a nexus of Fake F1 accounts that have a critical mass of followers. New accounts in a similar vein will get followed quickly as a result.
How'd you mean?
For anyone ready to think about FP3, your thread awaits: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/23/live-monaco-free-practice-3/
Well y'know. I set up a wiki page, link of contacts. Y'know.
Or maybe I'm taking this waay too seriously.
yes?
You know you're awesome, RG. You're the wiki king and we don't need to tells ya that :)
It's the morning. I complain and complaining in the morning.
We picked the wrong time to do this tremayne didn't we.
Possibly. I'm tired and cranky too tho, after working.
If anyone likes popularity contests, it seems I was submitted to a Ms Twitterworld thing. Not sure who did it, but thank you :)
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
You can vote every 20 minutes if you so desire. And you should, because, you know... I like world peace and baby animals.
Is all this exposure going to your head? ;-)
You are Mrs Christine, right?
That's me.
OK, you asked for it......
I presume you get to open shopping malls and things if you win this?
I certainly hope so.
Wow!
Thats more recent than my other half. :D
Does this mean I have to marry her tog et her into something girly? Oh dear...
It is quite a handy way of forcing the issue, yes.
I think I'll survive without her being girly. :D
this is an insane way to race though: {Comment #198}
Sounds like they need a sweeper round before the cars or something...
Did anyone else know that the BNP has it's own youth/student movement....it has Nazi youth written all over it.
They actually scare me
It was on Have I got News For You last night
Every time I vote for Christine at http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld my browser locks up for 10 seconds
yeah, i've been looking into it on their website, it's a bit...freaky
ok, after a bit of moving around i think i have found the perfect screen set up...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/lou-setup-jpg
what do you do in the races when you have both an onboard feed and a tv one?
ooh is that gps?
just the onbourd one. tv one is for the tv....
aha, it all makes sense ;)
gps?
with the car positions on track
The map with the red dots. Where does that come from
ooooh right the circuit guide? it's from the bbc f1 page.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/circuit_guide/default.stm#top
dots are corners, i believe
yep.
I'll do something similar...
ahh gotcha. i got all excited that something fans have been asking for might actually exist. I should have known better to expect that of FOM ;)
Any idea if the next round of FIA-FOTA talks will push through today? And if so, at what time?
ahh yeah i see, but if i found something like that i would be jumping up and down and screaming about it very loudly ;)
No more talks this wekend
Oh, really? I thought they said the next round was today? Any idea when the next one is? The deadline is on Friday...
From the Beeb:
They said during FP3 that there would be no more discussions this weekend.
Hmmm... that's odd. I'd assume that discussions are advanced enough that they feel confident not to talk until after Sunday...
Monaco menu set. :) Gone for what I wouldn't normally buy - but as the other half isn't here - sod it! :D
Currently have a nice chunk of Swordfish. But, also have a live lobster.
Mmmm.. Pan fried lobster. Just going to have a simple salad with it I think.
sounds delicious :D
Is he in the bath and what's his name, Larry?
a live lobster?as in you have to kill it?... aww poor lobster.
That's a MEGA menu. :D
gees and all i got at the shops was some pasta and a fruit salad. i feel like i wasn't trying hard enough.
From the moment he arrived in the waters he was destined for Flibster's plate
poor Mr Snappy
I cant see how anyone can look at a live lobster with there weird eyes and go mmm...tasty.
No name - I may name him Bob though. he's not in the bath. Thats where the uprights are... *ummm....*
Not a problem. I'll kill it painlessly. Won't drown it or freeze it to death.
aww. lol i just don't understand how people can see something alive and then eat it, like with the crabs and lobsters in french restaurants where you can pick the one you want... it puts me right off eating them.
call him pinchy ;)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/flibsters-dinner-jpg
i thought freezing them was meant to be the kindest thing?
Whenever I talk simpsons, i always forget the lobster's name. poor pinchy.
Nope.
Sharp knife straight down behind the head.
I don't remember you getting this upset over Brian the goat
Best not to be on first name terms with your dinner

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/
Ah-ha, Steven will be pleased. :)
NASA - back to normal. :D
Switching back to Daily, it's still warm :)
ahh feels like coming home. Although, I am still watching qualy ;)
Ive just realised im watching golf. I cant believe they televise it, i have no idea what's going on but someone seems to hit a ball every 10 seconds
in 2005 I once stayed up all night watching golf and I couldn't tell you why. All of a sudden it was 7am and I hadn't slept.
haha i'm watching the quali repeat on the red button, just to hear the bbc tv comms... and i kinda want to watch it again...
mrschristine is up to 73 votes
don't watch the end of Q2, Legard goes ON AND ON AND ON about Jenson maybe being knocked out even though the people behind him were Torro Rossos/Force Indias/Piquet
@Amy - you should always have lemon juice in the fridge (even the artificial stuff) and vanilla extract...well, that's optional but that recipe is worth making
Nurburgring 24 Hours, anyone? Auf Deutsch!
http://adac.24h-rennen.de/index.php?id=3785&L=1&cHash=f6a7d1bb2f
They are on the warm-up lap. Warming up 220 cars over 16 miles apparently takes half an hour.
or go to www.radiolemans.com if you prefer to understand it. I don't know if I'll follow it for long.
There is an article on pitpass suggesting that bernie might be about to put the sport on pay or ppv tv http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=37977
Bernie won't move to PPV. That will kill his potential revenue stream of new fans. Freeview actually helps rather than harms live audiences, as most people realize that watching F1 live is different from watching on the telly.
If F1 moves to PPV, as they say, out of sight, out of mind...
He's already done that once.
It was realllly successful. ;)
only reason I got Pay TV installed in NZ is because they took the F1, but I knew a lot of fans who simply stopped watching. Even if I was in NZ now, I might just stick to streaming. It'd be a terrible idea to do it in England.
@cooking thread - I understand about building up baking supplies - i never really did it in my current place either, but it's more that i don´t spend much time cooking anymore :(
Digital F1 was ahead of its time. Had that been implemented now, it would've worked as a premium coverage compared to the basic Freeview coverage.
If he moves it to Pay TV it would have to be available in FullHD.
It'd probably also cost more than Sky Sports or Satanta too.
I don't have a lot of cupboard space either, if the kitchen was all mine it'd be brilliant, but the cupboards are split 3 ways between my flatmates and me.
Okay, the Nurb 24 is officially crazy.
Have you got anywhere to grow some fresh herbs? One of the best things you can have - windowbox or a little rooftop greenhouse works well.
we do have a little pot of them outside in the courtyard, but its not really ideal. I spent 5 years working in a kitchen with an executive chef who was obsessed with fresh herbs, she used to make me break into a nearby garden to steal their rosemary.
Where is it on?
I shared a house here with *4* others. I know what you're dealing with!
I shared with 5 others :P
all guys, no one prepared to wash up
ugh a commentary of a flying lap from Cam "i drove a honda f1 once" McConville :(
Online here: http://www.wige-iptv.com/cms/livecast/24h/live7-8.asx
hehe. i miss him - he was mildly entertaining.
no press conference at all! i watched all of that for nothing!
But the feed is very choppy.
we were pretty good on the washing up because there were only 5 plates. smartest strategy we had was never to buy more. we were a mostly clean bunch, with one exceptions (not me)
Same here, during my second year at uni - all girls though. I wouldn't recommend it. Every 4 weeks I spent a couple of days sleeping at a mates house as I risked my life going into the house we shared.
English commentary at www.radiolemans.com on the Listen Live link
my last year at Uni I lived in a house with 4 girls who hated me (mostly because I watched F1 with their boyfriends hahaha) They stayed on for another year but I moved out when my lease ended. I had the power, phone, internet and pay TV cut off the day I left, and didn't tell them I was doing it either. It still makes me smile to think of how they must have reacted.
oooh... that's mean! :P you had Uni in NZ?
ooohhhh.... ouch !
yep, I went here
It was mean, but it was the least they deserved. They were a lot meaner to me :D
Cruel, evil and different.
Thats the sort of thing I would do. :D
I like Dunedin
Did anyone else know that the BNP has it’s own youth/student movement….it has Nazi youth written all over it.
They actually scare me {Comment #231}
Indeed they do. They tried to get a group arranged at my university and failed because none of the students agreed with their opinions. Lots of them came to the meeting where it was proposed, but out of curiosity as to why they would bother trying to set up anything there...
Very nice move, calm, calculated. You're not helping with the Borg similarities, you know ;)
I miss it sometimes :)
I shall take that as a compliment ;)
captions for this facial expression please:

Bet you don't miss the cold.
Nice city though!
Kimi's got how much fuel?
i've just noticed how much shouting Legard does.. hahhahaha
someone needs to put that james allen photo next to him :D
that fits nicely with this:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/127083-jpg
yes this was last week, I don't miss it at all!

NOT YET
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/mon09_weights.pdf
here's the link. I'm running a script which should tell me when it goes up - i'm checking every 10 second :) First time I've run it though so I could stuff it up.
If I spent all my front row bonus on ice creams, how many would I get?
You know when your an f1 fan when you set up a script just to check the weights.
Hi again.
oops. for the other picture
It’d be a terrible idea to do it in England. {Comment #289}
It would be pretty dumb because it would get the British government prosecuting Bernie for the broken contract (blaming Bernie would be great for the worried politicians), massively reduce the audience and make the series practically invisible to newcomers.
Last time he tried in 2002, the audiences were tiny (a few thousand at best) despite many millions being thrown into the equation. Even Setanta is struggling for viewers and that's based on the Freeview platform.
I write scripts for work - literally running one now to find me a job (if anyone is in the science world, let me know, i can make you a nice spreadsheet). People are making jokes about me curing cancer with a script.
Does anyone here use AVG free?
Yes, I thought I was bad just bookmarking a link that doesn't yet exist
If he did it again he would probably take it off free tv and sell it to sky to be on like football.
But the speculation is he would do it everywhere, not just the UK
I do. sup?
I do. What's up?
it's your fault for posting the link hours ago.
AVG - yeah i used to use it, but not anymore - work has official virus killing things and so stuck with them. do you have a problem?
Pitpass have no idea. Don't listen to them!
Haha! Same reply!
I can get Pay TV for free and I don't have it, so odds are I won't get it if I have to pay for it!
LOLcatz!
When you get a 404, how do you stop it making every tab you have open tell you that you got a 404?
Usually, when I post F1 Minute this early things change.
http://www.f1minute.com/2009/05/23/23-may-09-jenson-button-takes-pole-for-monaco/
Watch out for penalties or a super-surprise in the fuel loads.
In general yes, although chris sylt is pretty good
No idea, sorry!
This is for the toolbar? Just a sec.
AVG dropdown button -> Options -> Browsing tab -> Uncheck 404 checkbox.
I turned the toolbar off because it was annoying me. I want a virus scanner not a nanny!
But it still does the 404 thing and I can't find an option.
Computer asploded twice today ... just after quallies. Missus now has given approval for new gaming rig...
You have to turn on the toolbar and do this. Turning it off alone won't solve it.
how did you manage that? (explosion and approval)
Ah, found it. Thanks. :-) When I turned it off, I thought I'd turned it off.
mrs C up to 82 votes.
almost up to the 2nd row :D
link? I'm lazy today...
only going to take us a few minutes if we all vote, people...
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
Hehehehehehe. :D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8064920.stm
i knew someone would ask :)
i like that its not geolocked :D
That's a first from the BBC :(
i wanted to see some actual racing though :(
actually a lot of their news stuff is not geolocked.
pah, not driving with a manual box for 15 years? thats not real driving then! ;)
Just ANYTHING to do with F1...
Ech. Tried loading the weights page. The tab just seems to hang up. Does that mean it's not there yet?
yeah. should be soon though. eg 4 minutes. i remember seeing at 5pm CET time once before.
anything with vision, yeah :) i gave up on that a while back for that reason.
was 2.13am then 2.19am Amy time last 2 times out. Is now 12.58am.
So,
Who's watching the Indy 500 tomorrow?
I'm going to try and find a stream.
oh really. hmm. and Brawn said "one hour" ! Maybe I should go get some food then...
yeah, my one dip in the american pool per year
it's like f1 has anything right now. i don'T think i'll be watching. have a few other non-f1 things to do tomorrow.
I'll be watching a bit, and the French Open :D
i meant, it's NOT like f1 has anything right now. i don'T think i'll be watching. have a few other non-f1 things to do tomorrow.
It's on Star Sports, so I'll switch to it on the telly. Then duly all asleep... :D
I found one using TVU last year so hopefully there will be one...
up to 88 votes and in second row.
got caught up on other stuff so forgot to a) have lunch, and b) write mi'blogs
Nah. Will be in York and its a bit rude to stay in a room with a laptop watching a race at a relatives house.
Going to do that now. :-)
really? :)
Yeah.
That means I'll also miss the debrief as well.
oddly enough, i might actually be around for that. not usual i'm around in the evenings.
She's 9th now. 8 votes away from Row 1.
Plenty of stuff happening at the N24...
Yep and a nice clear stream here, paste it into WMP:
http://wige-iptv.com/cms/livecast/24h/live3-4.asx
Grr... ...when will the qualifying weights be out? ...Grrr...
HAH!
One of the commentators just said "I'll time the gap here - oh whoops, my watch doesn't have a second hand!"
Amy said that the last couple have been about an hour later than now. We're waiting. although I feel the need to leave the computer and find some decent food.
ain't technology grand!
just like with podcasts, we can do predictions. I reckon it'll be 17 minutes past the hour.
Ill go for 14 past
sure why not? I'll go for 43 - not this hour, but the next one. which means Amy will be awake a while.
going to the fridge...good time for the weights to get out - you can all tell me what they mean when i get back.
i'm pondering an all nighter even though I don't need to.
The press conference transcript normally comes out before the weights so I read that while I wait.
linky?
96 votes now for MrsC - great work people. whoever was it that set this up?
that one I'm not sure of, I think it will be http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/mon09_conference_sat.pdf but thats a wild stab in the dark. It's only the weights URL I have saved.
Heikki says " I touched the guardrails three times during qualifying and I’m lucky that it didn’t have any negative consequences."
Unlike Lewis. :D
Somebody from Motorsport Magazine is on the RLM commentary (but it's not Joe Saward!)
I've got two staffys staring right at me while I eat ANZAC biscuits :D
where most of the things go - but not the press conference :)
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/timing.aspx
You're a dead man... but ANZAC biscuits? Well done mate!
I'm drinking some lovely NZ beverages. I took a trip to the NZ store yesterday to buy one thing and came home with 15 :D
i think there is a difference between touching and slamming
NZ Beer or L&P? ;)
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/on_event.aspx is where press conferences show up :D
At the moment, Sparkling Duet :D
He skipped the guardrails and went straight for the tyre stacks. :D
have a look here
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/home_page.aspx
over on the right is a section on regulations. the link says "coming soon". even the FIA have no idea what the regs are.
Now Loki is whining at me because of it. It's so funny :D
You reckon Hindy is talking about Joe when he's on about supporting new initiatives but prefers paper?
ooh that reminds me, time to check ebay
Yeah probably... just sent them a Facebook message coz they called Craig Baird an Australian :(
I had no idea the N24H was taking place this weekend. Awesome! :D
Just seen some mechanics of an S2000 break through a wire fence to get to the car which was stranded out on the side of the circuit!
Which he just corrected :-)
Also looks like the OSRAM team have switched from a Lamborghini Gallardo to a Ford GT this year.
Clearly he listens to you, although he hasn't promoted SPC yet.
The first hour was sensational. A Ford GT and a Porsche 997 running nose-to-tail for 56 minutes from the green flag, most of it seen onboard. Ended when the Ford was spun around by a smaller class car.
MrsC@99 votes. who wants the 100?
They are running replays of that battle on the feed now
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
Either I got the 100th or the 101st. :)
Right, time to update the Super Season Grid, me thinks ;)
Just seen some mechanics of an S2000 break through a wire fence to get to the car which was stranded out on the side of the circuit! {Comment #416}
Is that allowed?
Technically no.. but they seem not to enforce it very much..
Dunno, but I hear that this race can get pretty feral!
RLM just said Sabine Schmitt (who did the stuff on Top Gear) is 16th.
oooh didn't know she got a drive!
Someone's just overtaken Christine. Jumped up 30 votes in a couple of minutes.
Eh? She's still 5th on my page...
wow.
quick, someone write a script!
mrsC
Done. but couldn't post it. If you want to install the language I'm using, we can all vote automatically every 20 minutes :)
4th when I last looked.
What are you using?
R
weights are out
I'm on the top row? You guys are awesome.
hmm maybe not. my code went off. not sure why.
I'm not voting as often as I should. Mainly cos everytime I vote, firefox freezes on me :(
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/mon09_weights.pdf
the main fia page has no link yet. no you can all know
they are out and button is heavy

told you they came out before the main page links to them ;)
Yes, we're finding that here too. It comes back after a minute or two.
do we even know what the competition is? :)
oh Heikki, what are you doing being lighter than both Brawns.
I get them from here
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/on_event.aspx
It's just a popularity contest, isn't it?
Google chrome seems to work ok.
But then again, my computer could asplode at any time...
Button's pole lap was MEGA. Barrichello will only run 1 more lap than him, while Kimi is lighter, and Vettel is a LOT lighter yet couldn't do better than 4th...
yeah. my script says the page was there, but then the only thing i had open didn't have the page there. and i thought i'd gone too early. but my scripts work :)
i heard you got to meet all the F1 drivers ;)
Get to open new circuits as well.
still no press conference though so looks like I'll be waiting for sleep still. I want to know what Kimi had to say! er, mumble!
red bull are the two lightest.
Giancarlo thrased Sutil didn't he?
Looks like both BMW's going very long with Bourdais.
and the brawns are the heaviest in the top 7... makes their performance today VERY impressive. JA was right on the money in his analysis.
The Finns are lighter than Webber
nope - this fuel load is put in after they failed to get past Q2.
their weights are irrelevant for qualy, only the top 10 used race fuel
But Webber is LIGHTER than either Brawn...
have i ever said how much i ♥ Mr Button? :P
aah yeah...
In weight order.
15 Sebastian Vettel 631.5
16 Nico Rosberg 642.0
03 Felipe Massa 643.5
04 Kimi Raikkonen 644.0
02 Heikki Kovalainen 644.0

09 Jarno Trulli 688.3*
21 Giancarlo Fisichella 693.0*
05 Robert Kubica 696.0*
11 Sebastien Bourdais 699.5*
10 Timo Glock 700.8*
many times, lou, many times. :D now they must be hoping we get a dry race tomorrow. what's the weather like?
cloudy, but not even a hint of showers. looking good for brawn, then, provided they can keep clear of the barriers...
Button and Barichello both did really well, Vettel was a waste of space, and Alonso had a relatively good effort as well
Williams must have known that Nakas wouldn't do much better than 10th so fuelled him heavy :D
i guess glock was praying for weight?
ssssshhh they'll be fine ;) you just watch ;)
top 8, rather. :)
smart!
let's hope so, eh? :D
they have to get heavy cars off the line ahead of Kerrsmi Raikonen, but even so they should have enough gas to get ahead and back out in front of the long stinter's.
hope against safety cars too
I'm hoping not. I want a first corner collision involving the first 15 cars
it's the only sensible thing to do for Kazuki. :D
right, with the weights in, i'm off to bed. Night, everyone! :)
i think the question is more like when rather than if
Night sir.
Kerrsmi and his teammate Failipe
good point, but pitlane isn't closed anymore, so this doesn't harm them as much as it would've last year.
I'm surprised Hamilton is that light. I expected them to fuel him up a bit. Give him the possibility of 1 stopping.
But Vettel is well into the 3 stop window - I know they said that Webber and Vettel were on differing strategies - but I was expecting 2 stop and a one stop possibility. Vettel really should have had pole.
The N24H live feed now has Sweet Home Alabama playing?
:D
night Journeyer, and goodbye all, i think i'll disappear for a bit too. might be back. might not. but tomorrow! bring it on :) Amy, I expect cake :)
if that now happens you know i'll blame you now don't you :P
Both Vettel and Webber struggled. It seems that their DDD isn't working, and may have affected their revolutionary rear suspension as well.
night Journeyer
I bet Flavio still won't shut up about the DDD though.
I don't care, as long as a Toyota/BMW gets a point, I'll be slightly happier
One thing that surprises me is how light Hamilton is despite his starting position.
they'll have to deal with Lewis before they get there. g'night!
He'll have a dodgy start and the KERS will fail.
Glock 700??
Isnt it BMW-Toyota?
Going to be a very slow car.
Yeah, you know what I mean.
He obviously has signed some deal to cart half of Saudi Arabia around with him
0 stop strategy!
Why would they put Vettel on a 3-stop? You can't make a 3 stop work at Monaco, too much traffic.
it might still happen Alonso is p9 on a street circuit so Piquet is bound to crash, he may take out a few other guys too.
:(
Sigh
Unless you qualify on pole and can pull away substantially - you've got to be damn lucky too.
do you reckon renault have banked on piquet crashing to help Lando? like in singapore
Howdy all, been to Bluewater (big shopping centre)
New suit, plus extra trousers, 4 shirts and 3 ties! In an hour and a half! boo ya!
Really hoping BBC doesn't mess up the F1 like they are doing with the golf right now. Cos its darn right annoying
If was really hot tomorrow you might be able to argue that the tyres will work to quickly, but i think they were very keen for pole publicity
yep :D lol
what have they done?
I just noticed Kimi was heavier than Felipe. Take THAT EJ!
They've lost power twice in 30 minutes.
hehe :D
Mclaren probably turned on the wind tunnel and drained the area of power
I know its only 500g but it counts!
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/mon09_conference_sat.pdf is up too. Time to read what Kimi and Rubens think. I've heard enough of what Jenson thinks ;)
almost certainly Felipe's lack of motivation ;)
Seriously, im never going to tire of these motivation jokes
evening guys.
luuuuke!
hi.
Y'alright there mate?
I've been better but thats another story, can finally look forward to several events occuring from f1 and other stuff. about to watch Quali now, and possibly morph into a ford fiesta even when I hear Muse on the F1
I'm now watching Mango and Loki playfight with each other. It is the funniest thing ever :D
hi there :)
i'm still really happy from qualifying and i've watched it 3 times now...
Want to do my digest for me? ;)
Haha, awesome!
I'm sure the once will set me back into the land of Lukeh where captions run wild, photoshops are the main source of income and President Barrichello announces free chocolate for all
Do we want a 10 minute. 'I LOVE YOU JENSON'? ;)
i would but it would be no where near the high standard everyone is used to :P
I'm feeling a little stressed at not yet seeing a cake in the paddock. COME ON BRAWN I'M COUNTING ON YOU.
They have to!
Where can you watch qualifying lou? IPlayer is saying not available yet in it's masculine, BBC-esque voice
course you do :P
If I here that voice again, I may kill someone
it's repeated on the red button almost constantly. we have it on in the kitchen atm :D
i'm sure they'll do something for Rubens birthday don't worry ;)
Ah, thanks :)
Kimi and Heikki's birthdays are 2 days apart. I want a GIANT FINNISH PARTY but that wont happen :(
I think they need to up the ante on f1 cakes, no tyre shaper or f1 car shaped ones yet
it might happen... but maybe not in the paddock :(
1/4 of the grid have birthdays in January which is unacceptable. No drivers should be allowed birthdays in the off season.
Hamilton will start last: he changed the thing that's not the engine but also brings a penalty when changed (I not speaks English)
i know, Brawn never get to celebrate Jenson's birthday. it's not fair.
So thats one obstacle out of the way in getting a point
pitlane?
gearbox?
gear box?
he changed the pitlane?
:D
Gearbox makes sense, he did hit the rear pretty hard
only 3 drivers left who have birthdays on actual race weekends, and oddly they all fall on Saturdays. Piquet in Hungary, Kimi in Brazil and Buemi in Abu Dhabi.
Thats two isn't it? Piquet won't be around for Hungary.
might have to look in at Bad Boy Buemi's Big Birthday Bash
that's it. My brain and me don't get along very well today.
I thought that as I typed it. He's not allowed to go because otherwise Fernando won't get his joint-cake with him.
:D :D has he finally added those iron bars to his garage or something? :D
its his 21st! That makes me feel old.
They're interviewing a Kiwi on RLM at the moment...
i think we need to keep a look out for rover in the paddock this weekend.
Thats a tight top eddie...
:(
his accent sounds weird
wow, Brundle talking through the lap at the start of Q3 is amazing...
epic fail for mclaren's latest video:
http://www.f1wolf.com/2009/05/video-mclaren-and-their-new-rear-wing-for-monaco.html
just count the references to "the importance of a good qually lap", and "not hitting the armco".
"You really have to nail your qualifying lap"
yeah, nail it into the wall
Check out his moobs
do not want
oooooooops:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp8RHwAlnrA
Herman Tilke just got out of a Ford GT. It was leading earlier. He got in and it's now something like 16th.
trying too hard to be like Piquet
wow, what a lap by jenson. Fantastic stuff! :)
Why do excited German commentators sound so camp? ;)
Just been outside playing with Mango and Loki. :P
Piquet replacing Piquet
i KNOW! it was brilliant! :D
that was nasty, but those were the barriers we talked about earlier, they seemed to do there job
With Steven Roy bigging him up for so long, the Murray Walker effect has finally kicked in :D
they were indeed.
do gp2 drivers need a superlicence? most wouldn't pass a cycling proficiency.
we don't need him in F1. He has already had a cake this year.
!! wow !!
Lmao, I'm sure it's been brought up so apologies for digging up the quote but I fidn this a brilliant line by DC:
Hahahaha :D
Oh my gosh..
Just listening to sidepodpanel from 2 weeks ago - nice job host Amy, and everyone.
On a personal note, Scott in Italy is probably going to be Scott in USA. Just got a job offer :) Need to work out the details to find out if it's really what I want. We've already spoken once but need to sort out the details so we'll see :)
Well done Scott in the USA :)
Vijay is on screen at the IPL, dont know if anyone needed to know that, but there you go, a free fact.
a little freaked, but off to watch american football in 15 minutes (truly! they play here in italy). I'll see if it feels right :)
Eddie Jordan just said that Jenson Button may be better than Ralf Schumacher... huh? Well, yes, a pair of socks is better than Ralf...
Yowch, lucky boy - and the cameraman!
Ooof.
New undies for the cameraman needed I think.
Has he stopped screaming yet?
So Scott, where in the states are you moving to?
they play in the summer?
Its a good strategic sport
Christine in 5th place and climbing
You can vote every 20mins
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
Well done :-)
*possibly* Boston. There is a chance I'm going to say no because I think I've found some nicer opportunities around. But it's in the right direction and gets me into a place that should make my life easier.
thanks Pat:)
MUSE!!
*explodes*
Vijay update: now displaying a 'What is Sutil doing now ' face
Sorry, qualifying just ended on the red button... that wa s abit abrupt of a message... :)
*sigh* First Lou and now...
this is the last round of the regular season. none of that hard core winter stuff. we have a few paid americans on the team, but the rest have "real" jobs so it's a smallish season - 10 rounds i think plus playoffs
Actually, it is fourth now.
There is nothing like a good old fashion internet popularity contest.
That sounds great, its a sport i regret not having played properly
wow.
not when you're doing well, no.
notice we both exploded for different reasons :P but i'm actully still bouncing around the house :D i really really can't wait for tomorrow
I'm still laughing at the combination of Muse and nelson piquet spinning...
I can. Unless there is that first line smash up then, I can't.
I am so so SO tempted to buy/pre-order either a Brawn cap or "Lifestyle" shirt. But I know I have to save up towards my passport, driving licence, test and car. :(
I could probably get on the local team because (i) i've known the game for a while (ii) I can run fast
but...I really don't want to get beaten up on a weekend, many of the player are carrying some injuries. FYI, the italian word for lazy is pigro. I'm not lazy but that's just too much effort. off to watch the game. see you all tomorrow
see you later, i know the game, and i can push people :D
I can coach people :)
kovy now only paying $1.60 for a top 8 finish. Silly people who wait for qualifying to place bets.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/monaco-bets-jpg
James allen is saying nakajima effectively blocked vettel, because his timed run was so slow, which might be news or i might have missed it being to busy commenting
if your a member of brawn's site you can get a 10% discount... either that or just enter the competitions on jenson's site. you might win a signed cap ;)
I wish I knew of this 10% when I ordered my top and wallet :(
Boston is a nice city. The downtown of Boston is a lot better now that they took the elevated highway down. I was there a few months ago and enjoyed it. However, good luck with accent.
Vijay's team just made it into the IPL final, which is tomorrow, so i guess he will be there instead of the race?
How can I enter the competition when I can't enter @ in the e-mail box?
Feel a lot better now I've settled down, watched qualifying's sessions and ate a cornetto :) *forgets work*
copy and paste the @ ;)
yay! :)
Done :D
So how could I get this 10% discount?
I've just registered on the Brawn website, by the way.
Oh and I think I've been converted to the Doohickey since I've been using it all day :D
i got a code in the race weekend newsletter. since i didn't use it i'll send it to you via twitter dm if you like?
don't you usually use the doohickey?
:o
welcome to the promised land
i made a discovery: ham from deli counter is better than ham from packet in fridge section
I'm using doohickey until the promised lclt updates arrive. And then its more lclt love.
For me it is LCLT during live comments and to catch up after work. Doohickey at all other times.
woot!
i also made a discovery myself today; jenson button may be better than ralf schumacher. Simply stoundeded by the undeniable wisdom of the righteous eddie jordan.
*cough*
am working on new "stuff" as we speak.
*astounded, even.
i prefer stounded.
Wooo. Go mr c
Nope, I'm more of an LCLT kinda guy. I just felt like using the doohickey and I've not felt like switching back :D
stoundeded!
i used doohickey most of the time. ye olde comments for catching up, and lclt during live commenting :D
yay! :D
you sir are very awesome, love new stuff!
Sure thing. You sure you don't want to save it for yourself?
lol i've already bought my merchandise ;) and 10% off of that lovely coat is as good as makes no difference ;)
Fair do's :D
Just seen Grosjean's crash - MY GOD!
And better than HAM on the racetrack? ;)
Finally we have Nurburgring pictures back! It has been a static camera for AGES, pretty boring. Now we have pictures from the circuit again:
http://wige-iptv.com/cms/livecast/24h/live3-4.asx
and www.radiolemans.com for talking
If you think F1 stewards are harsh....listen to this....
In todays World Series qualifying;
- John Martin loses his best time because he crashed and caused a red flag 6th row to 10th row
- Miguel Molina and Max Chilton also loose their fastest laps for "recieving outside assistance following trips off course" i.e span and marshalls helped them on their way again.
How harsh is that!?!
Seems fine to me.
Thats like Ham being penalised for crashing.
And the someone else being penalised for spinning and then being pushed round again.
Seems a tad extreme to me
I think Rubens' team shirt looks awesome. Black and yellow looks like a good combo, with 23 on the back and RUBENS down the right sleeve.
Common thing in junior and other series - if you cause a red flag in a practice session you lose your fastest time. Aimed at preventing accidents from over-eager drivers.
It's not harsh if they received assistance because their engine had stalled. If their engines were running, I believe it would have been fine, but if they had stalled the engine and got it going again as a result of a push, that's against the rules.
Really? Never ever heard of that before.
It just seem a bit harsh penalising a driver if they've already been penalised by stopping, especially if it was the car that broke down (in other cases) and not your driving.
Well your stopping has ruined 23 other guys session, so...
They still get the same length in time, so it's not all that bad.
Just wondering, did Bourdais turn up today? Didn't see him once on the qualifying
Isn't Ruben's number 22?
Just ignore me .. that was a stupid comment
Nope, he's 23 because thats his real life age secretly.
nope. Rubens is 23, Jenson is 22
Yeah I misread, sorry.
Funny how Lewis was number 22 last year and won the wdc and now Jenson is number 22 .. could he be WDC?
sssshh don't jinx it ;) ... i'm taking each race as it comes, so that i can't be disappointed if he doesn't get it. it's only race 6 :D
I dunno. I still think we should keep our eye on Bourdais.
If he wins tomorrow, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion, isn't it? ;)
nooo where near! Rubens isn't that far behind ya know! now ssssh! no more talk about how Jens may become wdc until near the end of the season please ;)
Was a great quali lap and it wasn't cause of his fuel load either
Rubens will win tomorrow though ;)
That needs to go in wiki unmentionables then ;)
quick plug for big pic: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/
me likes that one.
Jenson looked awesome yet again. I feel for Rubens but Jenson is look so strong.
What has really surprised me is how the Brawn seems to be good on all tracks.
Look at Toyota two races back they were at the front of the grid now they at the back of the grid! So much for double/multiple diffuser giving so much advantage.
the grid is so close this season, you can go from podiums to nothing very quickly, just ask toyota
very nice :)
thewre's a piccy on brawn gp of rubens in the same pose that you had as the ferrari big picture the other day which made me smile :)
hehe. bet the same guy takes the same spot each year.
each year? Nah, there's a little pothole in the ground, he pops out from time to time and just so happens to find rubens there waiting :P
:P
Like the NASCAR gopher? :D
ehe :) you can hardly blame him if he does though, i'd love to stand there each year :) also i don't suppose anyone knows who the brawn photographer is this year do they? the shots don't look like Lorenzo Bellanca's.... i could be wrong though.
:D :D
andrew ferraro i believe.
actually, think he works for LAT. i guess they've just switched to using them as an agency.
did christine mention digest is up? just in case:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/23/f1-digest-2009-monaco-qualifying/
Oh my GOD
There were 2 Muse songs on the f1 today. TWO!!!!
I'm watching quali re-run. I love the start with Jake and DC going around the track, its awesome!!!
Same here, although I'm smiling from ear to ear at City of Delusion used in the recap of the races so far :D
Something tells me your a muse fan, i'm not sure what it is, but something tells me that ;)
i'm very subtle...
:P
thank you :)
Anyone seen the scrum that was outside the automobile club? I've never seen reporters that cramed in, Ted could hardly stay at the front!
Also, Johnny Herbert is tiiiiiiinnnny :D
He's like a little jockey isn't he :)
Certain people make me feel really tall (which i am....but i don't feel it....) and he is one of them
One has returned. Been playing waay too much Football Manager, feel I need a break.
You managed to pull yourself away?
So you've come out of your corner then? ;)
I went on a five match losing streak, I was losing it. Board wern't happy, so decided to do a runner.
Sure Flav didn't fire you?
Yep, thats Football Manager syndrome alright.
He isn't Spurs chairman. Yet.
It's only a matter of time
But does he know that? ;)
You can't own two teams at the same time.
*Expects 'Flav quits QPR' tomorrow.
Man, that Brawn lifestyle t-shirt looks sooooooo tempting...
buy it.
go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on.
....go on.
Flav dosen't follow rules ;)
Don't listen to him. The BMW gifts are much more tempting
Christine very close to third now, then it's a big jump to 1st and 2nd
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
You're employing the Father Ted approach....
...and it might be starting to work.
buying bmw merchandise isn't going to help them be better, they're just rubbish, im sorry!
I believe it's actually The Mrs Doyle Manoeuvre
Because they may soon be collector's items?
:D
My tactic,
More items purchased
More money for team
More money for people to be hired
More chance of creating a better car
More chance of winning
More chance of winning the championship
And that is how I will make BMW win the 2010 Championships.
That's what I like about you RG, you're a funny guy
Wouldnt buying a car help even more?
When I get my drivers license.
You can't tell me who to support! :D
Kazuki Nakajima. Or, Jarno Trulli, he needs fans.
So you're going to give them lots more money through buying stuff??
2 words...
Budget - Caps
;)
Ah yes. Does that approach come with a cup of tea by any chance?
And some cake
This plan is of course relying on that not happening.
I believe their hats to be reasonably priced, neither too cheap nor too expensive
:D
Just watched Vinnie the panda telling me to buy Fox's biskwits.
it's taken me 15 minutes to get that joke lol
Have ya seen the prices?
Have you gotten to do an aside with joe?
As in have you finally found him from down the back of the sofa?
as yet, no. we're all working on it though.
Lukeh - brace yourself mate, I've got some news....
*deep breath*
...
Muse has a new album coming out called The Resistance
*shields himself for possible 3rd explosion of the day*
I know!! And it has a song called United States of Eurasia!! :D
They announced it yesterday and I nearly fell out the house
excellent, if his new blog is to be believed there is a chance we could see the brawns racing the briatorie's sometime soon
Well at least you didn't explode :D
(The song title making me happy because I'm guessing it's a reference to 1984, not like that's anything new or anything but still....)
Ha I thought the joke was "cheep" as in budgie
very true! :D
As in Briatore GP? *shudders*
QPR FC F1 GP
Beat that for abbreviations
My head hurts now
Flav Racing Enterprises?
dosent quite have the same ring to it tbh
oooh, v.interesting.
Scuderia Flavtastic
It's a scrabble-rs nightmare
Queens Park Racing does have a nice ring to it
It does doesn't it. I'm gonna call Renault that now.
Can someone re-linky please
but he has a team...it's called Renault...
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/05/23/the-future-of-fernando-alonso-and-other-stories/
Aww, bless Adrian...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75545
I believe someone is mocking me,
Le Mans is 13-14 June, i have my last 2 exams 15th and 16th....hmm.
priorities.....
I'm in the same boat. I have 4 exams that week.
I fanks you
Well....my Monday exam is in the morning, so it's not like i could sleep in...boo
So is mine! They are at 9am for four consecutive days, from the day after Le Mans...
I can't moan really, generally all mine are spaced about a week apart, just a bit annoying! I remember GCSE exam time, i had around 20 exams, it was insane, but i'd much rather have 20 GCSE's than the 7 a-levels i have now ;)
If JV came back I'd be happy. :D
Also Johnny Herbert looks like a midget between Jake and DC.
20 GCSEs? That's crazy. I had about ten although that was a while ago..
20 GCSE's and 7 a levels?!
Holy...
20 exams i mean. I think i had 9 GCSES's or maybe 10. I cannae remember
haha i knew someone would think i meant 20/7 subjects.
I meant exams :D
aww it's been a long day for me :(
hehehe, 20 GCSE's would be insane thats like 40+ exams.
and 7 a-levels! i struggle with 3
I don't know if anyone here has played forza 2 but it has the most insane telemetry data I've seen in a console racing game... almost scary how much it measures when you're racing.
As long as he gets some overalls that fit him and doesn't sing
[oh yeah, and Danii doesn't come back]
i had 24 gcse exams, that was a crazy month. But i now have like 12 GCSEs so it kinda worked out. I must say having 6 exams for AS is much nicer :D
3rd & 4th place are to-ing & fro-ing, Christine could do with some support
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
remember when we found GCSE's really hard? those were the days ;)
i want to go back now and take lots of random gcses's, or retake the gcse's that im doing my a-level subjects in.
that sounds like a plan!
i'm sure i could get that a* in maths, and do a gcse in business now i've done the a-level. and redo my gcse tech cw, that would be awesome
no 2 and 1/2 hour papers then... oh those were the days.
I think 1st place is slightly unreachable!!
the only gcse i wouldn't want to redo would be latin. there is no way i could get another B in that subject again.
haha yeah. a 2 hour gcse exam seemed like hard work, now i have 2.5 hour a-level maths exam, thats going to be grim
pah, nothing is impossible ;)
I wish I could've.... *mumbles bitterly at school*
aww man, i forgot about languages, i'm pretty certain i wouldnt be able to improve on my D in french lol
That sounds like something Jenson might've said last year!
We shall see, aim for the podium
you still can redo them, at any time.
It's not that, it's a long story I can't really be bothered to go into ;)
Can someone explain to me how Brawn appear to be competitive on every circuit? Other teams are going up and down the grid. Even last year there were Macca and Ferrari circuits. I know part of it is there really is very little difference between the front of the grid and the back (a little over 1.5 secs) but there is something else about the Brawn. Many predicted it would start well and decline during the season - there is no evidence of that.
Their car is just that good, end of. ;)
aaah right. i think we talked about it a loooong time ago, possibly.
my technology teacher left after our gcse year....he was that bad
I don't think I like this idea of 2 exams per GCSE :-)
I think I had a few subjects like that but not all of 'em.
Evening all.
Only 2 and a 1/2?
a-level is 6 per subject plus any coursework. i do like it that way though, means its not all based on end of year exams
it's cause Brawn are awesome! and they've spent the longest time developing their car, plus they have the dream team of Mr Brawn, Jens, Rubens, and various other amazing people.
that's long enough for me! plus it's only AS...
I thought it was just down to luck. ;)
Longer than BMW?
Cos we messed ours up
put simplistically....they spent alot longer designing the car than any other team, which shouldnt take anything away from them, but that helped them alot
Hello Andy, I think I sent some business your way today
Convinced two separate people in PC World (don't ask) to get a Mac and go to the Apple Store instead. I didn't even approach them
:D
Evening Mr. Taylor :)
6 per subject?! i have 2 per subject atm...
If its any consolation I found a2 to be far more enjoyable than a2 and the exams a lot more tolerable, hopefully the same will be said for your courses :)
Mine next month are 3 and a 1/2.
The test I did Thursday before last was 4 hours (finished it in 3 - at a quick pace)
a2 than as... tiredness.
So an a2 follows on from an AS?
Good man. :)
yepp
i think in A2 you really get a grip of the workload and the step up from AS.
they were developing it at the beginning of the last season, and BMW only moved focus to their 09 car after Kubica's win right? Brawn had longer time...
really?! most *ahem* normal subjects ;) have 3 per year, usually 1 in jan, 2 in summer, but you can do any at any time
they did the sensible thing given their 08 circumstances.
In my day ( ;-) ) it was an A-level and you could do an AS if you wanted to, but they'd only just come in so they teachers just chopped the A-level in half and lumped us in with the a-level crowd. Meant I got my only ever 'U'.
If anyone's interested I've posted a couple of pictures detailing the telemtry data you can have on the screen whilst racing in forza 2, as I previously mentioned...
general information
tyre friction
suspension
wayyy too much tyre info
various heat levels
g forces
you dont have to have them on but it's kinda interesting to see the levels changing as you race... it simply knows too much!
ooooh yeah that'll be cause my age is the first for the new alevel specifications ;)
Blah, blah, blah... and things. :p
nout wrong with a U.
(pre-empting results day...)
ahhh, oh and you lot were the first who were going to have A*'s too....before they pulled them...
no one told me they pulled the A*s....
Well Prince Alberts voice totally wasn't what I was expecting.
What were you expecting?
Something less American probably
And I've just managed to put lots of random images in my head with that comment. Including Prince Albert the wrestler and a Prince Albert...
i believe they have, but i may be wrong, ill have a look
Or a little more French at least. Plus maybe a bit deeper.
I thought he was German. Or is it a different Prince Albert? ;)
He looked nothing like his Bridge!
where is amy?! Rubens had CAKE!!
also... i've found a very cute photo of Jenson and Jessica.
awwwwwwww :D
yay!
Not one for being all cute, but that is.
-7 for creativity +9 for aggression
Is that a piece of toast on it?
Did Lukeh make it?
ok...so i was wrong....kinda...
they haven't pulled A*'s...however
you can't get A*'s at AS, you can only get them at A2, so if you get 90% or more overall with all your units then you get an A*
I think it's just the velcro effect with his wispy beard
Toast is good.
Oh I like the black Brawn gear he's wearing..
It is... but on a cake?
for the main himself... i call it... 'a toast to rubens'
also, looks like it's all fun and games in the Red Bull hospitality centre... here we see a magician entertaining Mark Webber
haha :D
he looks impressed!
Err, nice jacket ( ! )
it's nice isn't it? there is a nice black rubens t-shirt that you can buy ;)
Oooo can we go too!
And toast is good on everything.
wait, what?
there is?
How much?
so they might as well have pulled them, i'll never get that...
they're worth 140, apparently cambridge are asking for AAA* from 2010
yep.
http://www.henrilloydstore.com/microsite/product.asp?pro_id=1991
well, i don't want to go to cambridge so that's fine for me :D
but how do you design a car that works at all circuits ?
it's a secret, but they are all geniuses! :D
haha, i don't think it will make a huge amount of difference apart from
a) people to show off
and b) less people will apply to cambridge
most uni's wont change their entry because of it
You spend millions on it.
Ohhhhh... I dont know how I missed that... :(
ferrari did, for about 3 years running.
"xmicrosite error..."
but BMW Sauber spent a lot of time developing their car - I do think Jenson is an amazing driver - the way he just seems to pull it out of the bag at most races.
huh?... oh just go here(it's on the third page of the menswear section).
http://www.henrilloydstore.com/microsite/category.asp?cat_id=243
hopefully that will work..
The golpher Gary Player said after a particularly fine put and a reporter said to him that was a lucky shot ... yes it was - the more I practice the luckier I get!
i keep seeing thousands of photos of James Blunt this weekend... i didn't realise he was that famous.. :s
i told you, they are all amazing :D
uh oh...
ooh, did you update the celebrity spotter wiki page?
negative
yep.
He isn't, it's just that many people more famous than him have stayed away.
oh... okay then... www.brawngp.com follow the link on the right hand side ;)
does anyone know who Jesse Metcalfe is and does he count as famous? i've seen lots of pics of him too..
I believe he is a male, and that limits my knowledge of this male.
Won't Google tell you?
If Princess Beatrice counts then shouldn't Prince Albert?
Prince Albert can't count?
The name is familar for some reason.
google tells me he is an american actor. i just thought if people knew who he was and think he is famous he can go on the list...
same
*comforts* you'll recover honest.
So IMDB will tell you what he's been in.
[Keeping quiet on the grounds that it might turn into a Heat Magazine conversation]
apparently he was in desperate housewives, if that helps. i've never heard of him.. so i just wanted to know if he should go on the list?
:D
Ta. Got into the listing and took ages to find the 'next page' button :-)
Forty quid for a polo is a bit pricey, normal for F1 but still...
Thirty for the Rubens specific one rather than the team one.. hmm
:D
That's the spirit
I find that this never stops being funny (warning rude words):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etYvtT7q5XA
Is Tamara Ecclestone a celeb?
Jesse Metcalfe used to date one of Girls Aloud and he was in John tucker must die... sadly I didn't have to google him.
no, she is expected to be there ;)
now i get it... So no people like branson
I'm off for the night, see you tomorrow for the race :)
Yup, if you'd expect them to be there, they can't be on the list
byeeeeeee
yep, not to branson, and his children, cause well.. they 1. aren't celebrities and 2. are kinda expected to be there.
night Scott!
so....Glock on hard tyres won't stop till lap 53...
and then a 25 lap stint on the soft?
RG....this can only go badly
If he gets a saftey car at the right moment he could win it!
it's true, but if he waits for that long his tyres will be incredibly dead
Glock has been able to score while being at the back of the grid and from the pitlane. Tomorrow will not be such an occassion - the car is slow and overtaking near impossible. I am gutted about Timo being so slow.
If it rains and most of the field crash out..
Pit for tyres but not fuel?
And everyone stuck behind him, im loling but i shouldnt
oooh, it could happen.
I think you're clutching at straws, RG.
yes but a safety car is more likely to be early where this strategy will have less advantage - but I can only hope.
True
And avoids a spinning Kimi
he said it yesterday....
they're not slow until qualifying...and then they're just heavy ;)
about lap 16 would be perfect
Then why fuel so heavy, no point
Probably am. Just wanna hope.
I also want to see what Nick can do - I really feel for him!
awww I've come to the conclusion that Jessica and Jenson are such a cute couple! looook! awww
The way I see it when a driver I like qualies that low is:
a) They may storm through the field, get no points but be entertaining
b) I've no expectations or stress and can enjoy the race as a neutral
Jenson with the Kiwi version of his helmet there?
i do like that they seem basically normal.
This is 5 Pints - especially when there is no video or live timing :(
nope Jenson with the helmet he used during the 07 off season testing :)... i'll go get a life of my own soon i promise.
although it does look like an advert for zofirax.
http://wige-iptv.com/cms/livecast/24h/live3-4.asx
there's this, it keeps going between proper video and a static video at various places on the circuit. but combined with radiolemans, it's pretty awesome
Thats one nice helmet. Like it better than his normal one.
They seem more natural than Lewis does with his doll!
There's a team in the N24 called "Team Frikidelli" - Team Danish Meatballs? Eh?
That sounds like a Firefox Firewall :D
[Zovirax]
i know it's lovely. the black testing livery Honda had during the 07 off season was lovely too!
Anything black with white or silver highlights looks awesome ;)
I knew they would screw it up given the chance. Quite why NASA didn't just land at Edwards is beyond. Shipping the shuttle across country is not that big a deal
Evening all
I had hoped they used that livery for races - sadly they did not.
Oh pants.
Grid penalty for Hamilton now...
At least it's only for a gearbox change.
It is - it's one million dollars saved.
I think i've finally figured out why Kimi likes that hat. it's so he can look 'cool' as he sleeps through the press conferences.
Salt, meet my friend: wound
Evening Steven.
:D:D
Unless the gearbox was lying about how badly damaged it was...
Compared to NASA'a budget? How much does it cost to keep it up there for two more days?
Nick: 23/05/2009 at 22:45:16
James Allen is trying to conquer the interwebs with some sort of toolbar that monitors sites for negative comments about him http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/05/23/how-the-monaco-gp-will-unfold/
What is that man up to?
The toolbar will hypnotise us like that awful pic
what in the world??
I think it'd stay up there without spending any more on it. ;)
But who told it to lie, KERS?
I thought he'd be able to afford a domain without .wordpress at the end of it?
Yes but they need to pay someone to talk to them on the radio and stuff
Pity astronauts are quite expensive too
Space walk with enormous detachable magnetic boots and a whacking great parachute?
Bullitt just starting on Channel 4
Surely they'd be paid whether they were on the radio or not
Are they using Chris Evans?
Flibster!
Yup yup yup.
Bluray should be here on tuesday...
No non-1080i nonsense for you, eh?
1080p. ;)
Watching Terminator 2 at the moment. :D
we have officially lost joe in the ether of monte carlo. we're hoping to catch up on monday. please keep filling the wiki with relevant questions if anything comes to mind in the meantime.
This is what we does while waiting for Joe: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/05/23/i-wasnt-in-a-purchasing-mood-so-i-left-empty-handed/
Come with me if you want to live
Was the comeback/failure from Lewis something special/torturing, will he have taught/been humiliated the other drivers?
dark side of the moon :D
Just remembered - article in the Independent today says Magnum sales up 16%. They say it is because of the recession - people aren't holidaying abroad and are buying more ice-cream to cheer themselves up. Of course, we know the real reason..
I forgot it was a bank holiday, have to amend Monday plans from shopping to drinking
Good choice.
Had the vinyl on earlier. :D
I like bank holidays. We need more.
I'm not falling for that overt trolling again.
And the banks shouldn't get all the credit for it being a holiday
Good move
Is ok for some, at least I'm not on Earlies for this one
It'll rain anyway, tis the law
They really should be a sponsor soon
Looks like Brawn could be getting Cillit Bang!
If they didn't bother with that, the shuttle would still stay up for a bit.
To keep the large expanse of white on the cars clean?
Have you not seen Jenson's overall's today?
Not off-white, brilliant white. Check out the press conference
Tell the astronauts that it is a bank holiday and we will be back on Tuesday. I know they closed the payload bay doors today so they will have lost a lot of water as the doors are radiators for cooling the interior. They can only fly with them closed for a few hours before they run out so they have to bring it down soon.
I have been slagging Grosjean off all season and then he put in a couple of wins just to annoy me. I don't think the accident was his fault. the guy in front was weaving and blocking.
:D
i'm so proud of Brawn GP ;), they noticed that they need overalls that match their hats :D
Hahahaha
Now that the Nurburgring RLM coverage has ended until 7am local, and the vid feed has gone all sucky, I've gone looking for something to have on in the background. The BBC 6Music thing seems pretty good...
To be fair, my Mum would probably have noticed that a lot earlier.
Only in a Mrs Doyle kinda way
Oh by the way, computer news: I seem to have solved the crashing problem by installing another fan.
yeah but they have done something about it, and they look like a well funded f1 team now, rather than something that was cobbled together at the last minute :D
Oh now something I don't like has come on and I'm not so sure.
last.fm?
http://mallplace.com/tweeter-wall/ms-twitterworld
Page does not exist any more. I guess that means voting is closed. I voted about 20 minutes ago and at that time Christine was 4th 6 votes behind third.
bbc 6 music is a great radio station :) Russel Howard used to have a show every Sunday with them. Sadly he doesn't do it any more, but the music is great, i've got into a lot of new music through them :D
I kinda liked it before, more old school racers than corporate conglomerate
Maybe. I just found one of those 'club classics' shows on Heart. They can be a bit dodgy sometimes, will see how it goes. Now we have Freeview I like having digital radio through my telly because DAB doesn't work here, although FV only carries BBC channels plus Heart...
it's a proud day for matching hats and clothes everything
The home site can't be found, so don't think it is that
everywhere... dagnabbit, this is the 4th or 5th time ive put the wrong word tonight :(
I do that all the time. Somehow I automagically type "ing" instead of "ed" or vice versa.
sleep?
they are still the same... just with matching overalls and caps :D the cream overalls looked awful! they have got the balance right though, unlike Mclaren did last year with the starched white jackets.
I completely got distracted from my blogs. Nurburgring, ironing, food..
not tired, as stupid as that sounds
I just refreshed the voting page I had open and it went to 'page not found'
Looks like voting has closed
I am pleased the off-white overalls are gone - it did not work. I just wondered after looking at Rubens T shirt how the Brawn would look if the white was replaced with black for say when they won the championship! I think it could look really sexy in black.
I mean the homepage
http://mallplace.com/
I'm now waiting for the Daz advert starring Jenson and Rubens...
In our country it would be OMO
hmmm, well it was fun while it lasted.
thank you to everyone who clicked. christine is rather happy about all dem votes ;)
Maybe it was only to make a quick buck
I like Spree in Aus
Yeah so long as they don't go as far as the Toyota people with cardboard behind the sponsors logos to make them more viable
Mitch Benn's wife thinks it was her telling all his followers to vote for him in the Mr Twitterverse competition on the same site.
ahhh. whoops!
I'm going to bed early for once. I may watch Blue Harvest before sleep.
Working tomorrow, so won't be able to watch the race before the live show starts :(.
nor the parade lap :(
I love that film
Horror Beyond Imagination ;)
Oh and I've posted on Christine's blog entry about the Magsafe adapter with a potential solution. It's not a good idea to run the Mac without its battery though.
I might do that too, that was the very first ep of Family Guy I ever saw, before I knew who was who
why not?
Family Guy later, not bed
That'd just be silly!
Giving up on the radio tonight, trying last.fm radio instead, been ages since I played that directly instead of scrobbling my MP3s. "My Neighbourhood Radio"
also try keyword radio. we're currently listening to:
artists like nelly furtado.
May try that later. It picked a later Supergrass song I'd never heard before.. interesting..
ahh just read the comment on christine's blog. her answer is correct though.
rather a slow mac minus it's battery than no mac at all, which is basically the issue i'm facing at the moment.
both fans running at 6,000 rpm constantly from bootup to shut down when the battery is fitted.
No battery means that the Macbook will underclock the processor. It will be slower than with the battery fitted.
I also use SMCfancontrol to take manual control of the fan speeds. By default the fans run at 2,000rpm and then the mac will suddenly decide it's too hot and ramp the fans up to maximum. Setting the minimum speed to 3,000rpm seems to stop this happening unless I'm doing something really strenuous on my machine.
Gets up off floor at shock!
ta. i try now.
:P
Is that because of dust? I had to fix LPG"s (PC) laptop power cable the other day, in itself a fine example of why MagSafe is such a great idea. I removed a lot of dust from the heatsink and it's been a lot happier since.
Also, take all the speed tape off it, it'll breathe a little ;)
If fans are running at 6,000 all the time, SMC might not help much.
Is hoovering on low power a good idea?
I've not got a MacBook yet but have intentions
could be. how do i remove dust from a macbook pro fan?
:D
That would be insane
Tell him to go shower
Hoovers and computers are a really bad idea.
Loadsa static...
You've got to take it apart. Not a job for the faint hearted, plus you need something that will remove torx screws (ideally a torx screwdriver).
It may also be the fan controller.
What about a pneumatically driven one?
:D
Am listening to a very interesting Midweek Motorsport on radiolemans....lots of techy stuff thats going over my head, but very interesting all the same
Still not great.
A air duster is probably the best thing - and going outside to do it.
it's old and overworked. every macbook has its day, and this one had his a long time ago ;)
Nope. Compressed air duster is the way to go.
I refer you to my DM on Twitter ;)
is that anything like the things use use to remove dust from a dslr lens?
or is that not powerful enough?
ta ;)
Can of air duster?
Ah you got there first :-)
If you mean this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/ref=pd_lpo_ix_dp_am_us_uk_en_giotto.020rocket.020air.020duster_gl_electronics?keywords=giotto rocket air duster&tag=lpo_ixdpamusukengiotto.020rocket.020air.020dustergl_electronics-21&index=blended
Then no. You need canned air.
Not powerful enough.
This is a can of compressed air - http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=25351
that's the one!
i have canned air too.
yup, plenty of them.
you can buy air in a can?
I never mentioned earlier. I had the genius idea of putting my comfy armchair next to my PC, instead of the office chair. It isn't too much of a stretch to turn my head 90deg left to the TV..
Yeah and the can gets cold when you use it!
a godsend for old pc's. never thought of using it on a mac.
This might be worth a plug in Sunday's daily?
http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/cooper-80-years-of-the-monaco-gp/
I use it wherever there are small bits of stuff that need moving without touch.
It's not usually air, but it is canned.
years ago i forever had pc's in bits. but haven't yet needed to open a mac.
Right, I was going to bed. Night all.
cheers sir. goodnight.
Night Andy
Night Andy
Night!
Night
11 quid's a bit steep though
We have bags of air at work [seriously]
Can't play that trick on the apprentices any more :(
ooh, do tell?
Make sure you don't let the magic dust get out
Got any 6mm holes?
Isn't it smoke with electronics?
Once the smokes escapes it'll never work again
Just cushioning for packaging expensive articles like £300,000 electrical boxes. Goes from small sheets, like bubble wrap (only the pockets are joined together so they don't burst)
To large individual bags, about the size of a family sized packet of Nachos, just full of air
We had those at Screwfix.
GP2 is on setanta for anyone that hasnt seen it. in my case, my first gp2 race, although i fear i have already seen the excitment.
Not as big as that though!
My mate says that, makes this avionics guys shake their heads
Boxes of smoke broken again
That and PFM boxes
8 hours after promising it, I've finally sat down to write my Monaco preview for the blog. I didn't realise it was this hard to do so without using cliches.
Imperial only dear boy, I don't do Airbus ; )
7/32" or 3/16"? All outa quarters [computer says no]
"glitz and glamour" is a staple.
also 'unique challenge'
this year's favourite appears to be: "it's not a race, it's an event".
I'm desperately trying to avoid 'proximity of the barriers' but it's no good, it has to go in, its THE LAW
