You may know this as the day of the European Grand Prix at Valencia. Here at Sidepodcast Towers, this is known as Franck Day! The Frenchman will be lining up 8th on the grid at Sonoma tonight. There is no way I'm going to be able to stay up to watch him, but I will try my very best. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about until then:
- Badoer is still struggling, and still insisting that he's seeing this weekend as a test session. Surely that is the wrong way to approach things, or is that just his stock excuse? He does seem way off the pace, but perhaps he will be able to pick things up when the racing gets going.
- Red Bull have started to look at the possibility of running KERS towards the end of the season. It's clear that the device isn't prohibitive in any way, now that Hamilton has won a race and taken pole position here in Valencia. This will be a decisive moment for the championship though, won't it?
- We have discovered a view of Valencia that is worth looking at in yesterday's F1 Big Picture, but the track really is an eyesore, isn't it? It's impossible to tell the corners apart. What can they do to solve this?
That'll do for now. It's going to be a big day, so make sure you're tuned in for the Parade Lap, the race, the Debrief, and Live Commenting Franck. I will see you in the comments.
Good evening all,
I have just finished my Qualifying Analysis for Valencia. Take a look and let me know what you think ;)
Oh, and sorry for posting so late, I had to sort out some stuff first! ;)
:D
Never ever ever come back to Valencia ever again? that would sort the problem out
That would work, yes.
That is the best idea but if they do go back they need to paint the concrete barriers different colours. Split the track into 6 sections and paint the bariers a different colour in each section. Bob's your race engineer
Robert = Bob.....
and Rob = Robert....s'all im saying
I feel my LED signs would improve the race by 134%
I was going to say Bob's your uncle but couldn't resist that.
can you sell the idea to dragon's den?
That sounds ominously close to a fact
I shall have to apply and set up a business plan that will not only attract them but make bernie's ears go ka-ching
My Father-In-Law works with a company that makes and Markets some of the LED's for big screens - boy, does he test some interesting stuff out!
oooh. please tell me more. can you get any samples?
Regularly - mostly torches and stuff though!
still interesting. me very much likes LED screens.
would he be interested in a mediafuturechange chat one day in the (very distant) future?
nick... over 'ere.
I very much doubt it sadly - unless you want to do it in Danish :(
Oooooh Dragon's Den!?! If you come up with a decent business, can I come with you on the show? It's like a lifelong ambition (or perhaps more like a weeklong ambition, but I've definitely said before today that I want to go on....)
hahah
We must totally unveil the SidepodLED plan to the dragons. I think Theo profiterole would love it, and the really tall one on the end. The grumpy scottish man wouldnt understand it as he is stuck in the 17th century all the time.
I have a mild Scottish accent, it might endear me to him :)
heheh :)
Hello sunday!
Hey whats up
:D :D
You taste good as ice cream
:P
I just had one of those moments where you look at a really commonly used word and think... 'that looks like such a wierd word'
Not you at the moment!
I love those moments
was it "diaphragm"?
You said last night you did
It gets worse when you start learning other languages and/or live abroad!
And then you use word (other word processing programs are avaliable) to check it, and you still wont believe it
:)
No, it was cucumber.
Cucumber.
What a wierd word.
I think this is most likely to appeal to Peter Jones but he is just too tall
more weird than a word with a silent 'g'?
I think cucumber has a silent g in it too, but the human race isn't developed enough to discover it yet
Yeah, Theo only likes things he thinks would appeal to 'Mrs P'
I do that a lot then convince myself that a word I have used all my life doesn't sound right. I remember once being utterly convinced that London looked and sounded wrong and I maust have forgotten its real name. It still doesn't look completely right to me
My name is Jognathan
the g is silent ;)
An invisible, silent 'g'
The deadliest kind
I hate that word.
Luckily i can put it in the filter ;)
Evening all. Or should I say morning now..
Anyway, I have returned from seeing a good band who are also very nice people. My sister and her boyfriend have seen them several times around London because their friend is in the band, and they've got to know the rest of 'em... and tonight they played near me, so we went along. A good time was had even though I am sober as I had to drive...
Hi i am Nick... no spelt with a Q ;)
My surname is Wal#dock.
The # is silent
;)
They may be a good double act because Jones understands the technology and Mr Profiterole has all those shops to sell them
Perhaps this could lead to another Dragons Den idea
'My idea is revolutionary. A scanner that analyses any word in the world, and reveals silent letters within them.Like the silent g in cucumber'
Better
Hey Pat. Sounds good
Are they signed yet or have a MySpace page?
Hi Pat
Hey. They have a MySpace page which I'm right now looking for :-)
Unsigned, apparently a guy from Fat Cat Records is coming to see them soon... that's Sigur Ros' label in the UK.
Nice!
James Bond dives to deep, desperate levels with The Cucumber that Tried to Trick Me.
Give this a week and everyone's name is going to have four silent letters. I quite fancy an Ø before the second e in my name.
Do share, if you find it, please
Who wouldn't invest in that?
I quite fancy an umlaut
I have a feeling Deborah would find a flaw in my plan. She's like a vocal plumber; she sees a leaking pipe and makes the most of it.
http://www.myspace.com/theriflevolunteer
An omlette? ;)
That would make your name 'Roey' in Danish.
Incidentally, Me and the wife watched 'The Holy Grail' a few weeks ago and she didn't get the joke about the subtitles in Swedish at the beginning as she kept misreading them!
Like that :)
No, I had scrambled eggs for lunch. Maybe tomorrow :)
kathi will like that but don't pronounce it wrong
:D
Maybe I should request an mp3 of it
in which bar did you meet her?
:D
On another F1 group I once called myself P@ - for about an hour.
Ta
There is no e in Roy. I meant Stevøen
That would make your name 'Stevoeen'!
So, apparently, we've run out of names for punctuation marks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_sign
Things like that are strange. When I lived in Paris I had a book of Franglais and none ofthe French people in the office who all spoke perfect English could understand it.
:)
you know where it's @
I like that
It's different. I think I could live with that.
Or should I have said I like th@
And Bassano's umlaut makes his name sound like Ba-say-no!
I briefly did but it got annoying and everyone else hated it!
Oh no, that's not me
What about this?
I say Basayno, you say Bassano.
Bay-sano?
I'm calling the whole thing off :)
:D :D
By the way, I've posted my fuel stints, weights and fuel-corrected times - plus calculated how much extra fuel Badoer would need to have carried for his qualifying lap performance to have equalled Raikkonen's.
See, irresponsible uses of umlauts can be harmful!
You could have an umlaut on the o
It was just a phase. I was experimenting
Maverick reckons Hamilton had three more laps of fuel in his car when he set his time though...
I fear the consequences
That would make his name sound like Bassanoooooooo!
I'm Umlauted out!
Interesting numbers. I like the amount of extra fuel Badoer would have to have carried to match Kimi's time. He could have a couple of extra engines with all that weight.
That is always the difficulty with the current set up. Someone could be on fumes or have a few laps worth of fuel on board.
That has to happen
Morning guys, just winding down after spending the evening at our neighbours house who were having a get-together. Good to get to know them a bit :) What news have I missed?
Is Rubens wearing full-body breeches?
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46249000/jpg/_46249035_top3_766.jpg
Franck qualified 8th
That's not the word I'm looking for but if you see the pic you'll get what I mean
I don't get button up Nomex. What is the point in flameproof underwear if there is a gap right down the front of it.
Hi Scott. Good question, I've only just come in myself and I know of nothing more since the drop of the flag in Q3.
Ahh good. I was just reading of a big crash :-(
Hey Scott, we are being plagued by invisble 'g's
Maverick reckons Hamilton had three more laps of fuel in his car when he set his time though… {Comment #96}
If he did, that would affect his performance a little because there would be more of a correction to make. I didn't see which of Hamilton's laps was fastest (or indeed whether anyone else was fastest on a lap other than their final one).
He abandoned his final lap (with race fuel) and he was safe
someone in italy won 146.9m euros in the national lottery. they had no winner since january!
oh.
Peter Sauber is looking for their phone number now
I like the amount of extra fuel Badoer would have to have carried to match Kimi’s time. He could have a couple of extra engines with all that weight. {Comment #100}
He could probably have carried one and may have benefited from it... ...though I think even the FIA would have pulled Ferrari up for such a stunt.
That's 9 billion pesos of our local currency. What on earth do you do with that kind of money?!
I say run an F1 team. ;) :D
:)
:)
I'd buy a rollercoaster, the good ones go for about 12 million
:)
Where would you put it?
That has been all over the news for a couple of weeks. People have been flying into Italy buying a bunch of tickets then flying back out.
who plays a lottery that doesn't have a winner for 8 months[question mark]
12 million? The guy would have a lot of money left. I wonder who the lucky winner is - he'll never need to work again.
He abandoned his final lap (with race fuel) and he was safe {Comment #112}
Was that the first and only or the second lap of the final run?
i'd buy some land too
ahahahahahaha
shhh :(
someone in italy won 146.9m euros in the national lottery. they had no winner since january! {Comment #113}
Exactly how many numbers do you need to match to get a prize?!?
The same people who play a lottery that has odds of 14 million to 1.
am sorry, but that has made my day (its been quite average)
Not sure, 2nd of final, I think
It was a hot lap attempt until Heikki messed up
hehehe, is there nothing you can do?
You are going to become Michael Jackson?
be annoyed at my clumsy self.
6
That pays betwen 2 and 5 to one
can you get an onscreen keyboard that has one?
2 and 5 million
i'm just lazy.
I can't even comprehend what that is in Vietnamese Dong
Most of it, I think :)
That has been all over the news for a couple of weeks. People have been flying into Italy buying a bunch of tickets then flying back out. {Comment #123}
Wonder how much money that put into the tourist sector of the Italian economy, never mind the lottery itself?
In the trillions, surely?
You lost your "?" key?
The same people who play a lottery that has odds of 14 million to 1. {Comment #131}
That'll be why it never occurred to me to go over there. I don't even play in my swimming club's lottery and that has a probability of 49 to 1...
375 Trillion, I think
it's still there. it no longer functions (due to no fault or interference of my own... probably).
I think you have to be an Italian National don't you?
Remap it
Goodness me...
Is it due to the wine?
meh.
no comment ;)
That's quite a bit more than it's GDP :)
EU law lets you play. That is why people have been flying in and straight back out
No, I'm talking rubbish
Ignore me
aha ze pink juice
I thought I saw a news articles about it recently. Maybe it was non-EU citizens
There may have been some whining at some point, I'd say ;)
So yes then.
That darn Piquet is already causing mayhem in his new job
I always assumed that you had to be Italian to play but I geard on the radio on Friday that any EU citizen could play
:D
Oh yeah, went for a run in the evening
I am starting to have trouble due to lower back and calf pains - other than stretching, has anyone got any advice for me?
Another masterpiece. I love the Related Links.
haha. and on that note, i must sleep. catch ya all for parade lap tomorrow.
Have you got good trainers that suit your running style?
There's a whole pronate/supernate thing to consider
Not sure, 2nd of final, I think
If it's the second of the final run, then Hamilton only had one more lap of fuel when he set fastest time than on the aborted lowest-fuel attempt. It makes a little bit of difference though.
Yes. Stop.
G'night Mr C
night
night!
As in don't bother running anymore or stop running and walk or stretch?
No, sorry Alia
He set time at beginning of session.
The lap he abandoned, was at the very end of session
Night! :D
Night Mr C
i shant be around tomorrow, not for the PL or race atleast but hopefully for debrief if its on.
night all
I went with Maverick's data myself - but then you all know who I like ;)
Exercise usually involves Outside, therefore it is bad.
Stay at hom and drink beer
Same here - Sister-In-Law's birthday :(
Gavin: http://www.runnersworld.ltd.uk/pronation.htm
A good sports store (preferably one that caters to serious runners) should hook you up with running shoes to suit you
Debrief is meant to be on
Run And Become, in London, get to run up the street while they watch you before they advise on what to buy
I have no idea. It just seems to me if something is causing pain, stop doing the something.
Night Jon
Cheers Dude - might have to get new shoes (again)
I think my shoes are normally worn down more on the outside heel...?
See ya Jon
Pronation
Exactly how many numbers do you need to match to get a prize?!?
6 {Comment #137}
That's a lot of numbers - it only takes 3 matches to get money in the British version.
Try this
http://www.runnersworld.ltd.uk/shoefinder.htm
I do that too. Have you tried running in older shoes that are already worn down
The shoes may not be the cause but it won't help having incorrect ones
You need ones that are slightly higher on the side you wear down or you'll do ligament damage or stretch your tendons.
I think you have to be an Italian National don’t you? {Comment #149}
Not having been tempted enough to research requirements, I don't know.
That was worse unfortunately, which was why I got new ones...
The calf thing is likely to be the muscle tearing as it grows. The back, I don't know. Needs proper advice
Sorry. It is 6 for the jackpot. I don't know what it is for the other prizes or for that matter if there are other prizes
It could be down to leg length. I used to see an osteopath who would make you put a piece of cardboard in one shoe to level you out. Definitely need to get expert help.
No, sorry Alia
He set time at beginning of session. {Comment #175}
That complicates matters, because I don't know what he did between the fastest lap and that last three-lap run.
iPlayer?
Could it also be overtraining? I mean, I have just started and I am running every other day?
Badly supporting shoes can cause back pain, hip problems, knee problems, the list is basically endless. Everything is supported on your feet, if you're not holding everything up straight, everything's held at angles that arent' designed to work.
Maybe. Cepends how much you are running. Do some research if you are serious, get some running magazines. My ex used to be Runners World. It may be available as a PDF
*used to buy...
Some of the muscles in your legs are probably more developed than others, a physio would be best placed to identify which groups need developing and they'll give you exercises to strengthen them. Problem solved (usually.....)
Ha ha
Badoer
http://twitpic.com/euhlm
That is always a possibility. If you are using muscles in a way that they are not normally used they will object.
Try our innovative product the foot assist available at all good retailers?
There cant seriously be running magazines?
How? Why? I dont know whether to laugh or cry...
Did you see the Sniff Petrol one earlier?
You get magazines about everything. Running is a fairly mainstream one. My housemate used to get a magazine about crochet....
Call now and recive one with no obligation to buy and qualify for our affordable monthly payment scheme...
You'd be suprised
If there are Caravan magazines...
and appearing on Dragon's Den soon
Yeah, that was good
This i can understand.
Running has been around a while and doesnt really change much.
I can just picture the guy who ran the first marathon in ancient Greece going "alright mate let me finich page 43 and i will be off" :P
Blasphemy!!
We had a long discussion about crochet on here a while back. Someone put out a paper saying that the only way to creat a representation of the universe was crochet. I can't remember the shape though but it was weird
You can understand Caravan magazines?
You may be in the wrong place ;)
Fxd ;)
Even though it wasn't that good a run today I am really enjoying it - just me and my music around the quiet streets where I live - really clears your thoughts!
They change the designs and come out with new caravans. You cant come out with new running*
*now with added head patting!
You've thought about this too much!
About next Thursday... ;)
Actually, there are several training techniques depending on your objective
I'll stop now
Have you seen Usain Bolt? He is not running the same way as anyone else
This doesnt require thought... caravans, trains, phones, guns, fashion... all make sense to have magazines.
Running just doesnt!
WHAT?
Ah, see running on pavement can knacker your legs as well particularly if you don't have running shoes. But yeah, I understand the appeal of running, I prefer the treadmill though for some odd reason.
Um, I could think of loads of things I would like to see in a running magazine - not least of all some good advice and tips. I am researching as much as I can on the web at the mo...
Maybe you need some of these
http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20060715/powerizers/
What you need is a book in that case, a magazine is for something which evolves reasonably quickly
iPlayer? {Comment #202}
I have no sound card on this computer and I have limited access to Dad's...
Someone else suggested those. They might help me get to 5km in the race a week on Thursday but I might be DQ'd for cheating :(
There must be somewhere that lists the No. of laps done during quali
The FIA does in the media centre?
He has to do very silly interviews... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8216514.stm
Someone put out a paper saying that the only way to creat a representation of the universe was crochet. I can’t remember the shape though but it was weird {Comment #221}
Hyperbolic was the shape name.
Hold on, will drop.io spreadsheet for you...
I dont think they count in laps though?
Goodness, if you were that talented you'd really think you'd get to talk about your own sporting achievements rather than someone else's
Did you hear the bit about the 2 tonne gift?
No, I got bored by the football chatter and closed the window. Particularly hard for an (adopted) Liverpudlian to hear about ManU success.....
He is being given a big chunk of the berlin wall and he has no idea what to do with it, he thought it was just a brick!
2 tonnes?? Blimmin heck they must really like him. Ebay?
They count every lap the car crosses the start/finish line during a session.
Anyway, I have copied and pasted the data from this spreadsheet from the FIA Media Centre and added it to Drop.io...
This document suggests he took pole on his 12th lap...
That's insane
Why not? What else are they going to do with the old wall?
It will have a picture of him during the championships on it
They must be desperate to get rid of it if they are giving away 2 tonnes at a time. I hope he has a strong mantle piece.
I didn't know NASCAR was on now...
Saturday Night Speedway?
Why give 2 tonnes of it to a random athlete?
To make sure it leaves the continent?
Yup, at Bristol.
Lufthansa Cargo?
Anyway I thought they needed it to sell to tourists for the next 50 years..
Good night peeps - enjoy the race tomorrow, sadly I can't make it :(
It deserves to be preserved imo. In years to come they'll appreciate being able to appreciate their history much more. They'll be asking for all the bits back so they can reassemble it for some national museum.
It won't be the same though. It's like in Liverpool they've reassembled the Cavern with the original bricks but it's not the same as if they'd never demolished it.
G'night Gavin
He is not exactly a random athlete. He is the current world and Olympic champion at 100 and 200 metres and he has set new world records for both in the past few weeks. The 200 record was in Berlin this week.
Night Gavin
Night.
They need to preserve a section of it and I think they have done that. Re-building the Cavern was just stupid as it has no real connection with the original. I always find it amazing that one club got so much publicity. It's not like it was the only place they ever played.
I am aware of who he is, why was Michael Johnson not given a big chunk of wall? Why does Bolt need a truckload? Perhaps he's wants the most unique garden wall in the world..
If he didn't even know what it was then it's ridiculous to just give it away. It really is worth something more culturally than anything else. People revolt against things and destroy symbols of old regimes, it makes those that survive all the more precious for the future.
I could understand if they gave him a brick or a small section in a paperweight but 2 tonnes is ludicrous. Every kid as soon as there old enough to understand should be given a small piece and taught about what it meant
Just did a bit of a catch-up, saw the IRL chat about qualifying and noticed the accident hasn't been mentioned. It has removed two drivers from the entry this weekend as they are in hospital.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77901
there is a video and it is a pretty hard hit into a stationary car, so avoid if you don't like that sort of thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHxG6hHdTpA
I'm gonna get some sleep, will be around for the F1 but have to be elsewhere for the Debrief and probably most of the IRL.
Night Pat
G'night Pat
That's me off too, see ya Steven & Alison
Night Bassano
am i the only european awake at this hour :)
Nope. I am still around but not for much longer
what's your excuse? I'm listening to the rugby league in australia.
I am just finishing off some stuff before bed.
good answer. hope you're having fun ;)
I am trying but I really need to sleep so I am going to leave you all alone now.
Night Scott
no worries. have a nice nap.
I am all set for my day because I am wearing my Heikki shirt.
I feel this can only mean good things for The Heikster.
I just ordered pizza, I blame Lukeh.
And while I was sleeping, Roger beat that horrid Murray chap. What a great day today is.
Morning everyone :)
How was it?
I regret eating any of it because now I am in a cheese coma.. I don't want to eat the half that is left.
You are up early for a Sunday!
I'm not sure that's necessarily true for me. Certainly not on a race sunday - I don't think anyway :)
I don't always post when I first wake up just because that tends to draw me in and away from the work that I need to do.
So the chicken nuggets are they only for quali?
noo they are a race thing only but I haven't had any in a while. There is nowhere does delivery nuggets. There really should be.
Somehow I imagined that you cooked them yourself. Otherwise you'd have to miss the parade lap.
Heheh normally I do but I have none in the freezer. I am in bed now and its only 5.20pm but I do not see myself getting up again. Pizza has almost killed me.
Alex, since you appear to be the only one around, can you get f1minute.com to load?
There's a lot of action coming today though... I have an exciting thing for you especially today! I think you'll like it :)
Nope it's dead...
Ah it's down because of planned maintenance...
http://www.slicehost.com/articles/2009/7/16/stl-a-network-maintenance
A signed Heikki?!
Not quite.
Tell me about the purple thing?
booooo 5 hours is far too long!
It actually says it shouldn't affect anything... But I guess it did.
Are you after yesterday's show?
Trying to catch up on some F1 Big Pics :)
Ah.
Good morning, Yay, F1 is back properly today!
Hello everyone,
Just got back home from watching a Seattle Seahawks preseason game.
So what to do for three hours till the parade lap? Hmmm....
It's only 2 hours until Parade lap isn't it?
isnt it two hours?
2 hours - eeep!
Do I hear one hour? One?
How about right now?
show notes, stat!
Show idea. Since it is the silly season and the time we do fantasy football drafts over here in the states, I think you should combine the two. I think you, Christine, and Mr. C should do a F1 drivers fantasy draft. You each take three teams, the do two rounds and see what team combination you come up with.
This is ridiculous. It's meant to be winter here. It was 25 degrees today.
Oh yes.
LOVE IT! It's in! Thanks Dan!
Don't we need to take 4 teams? I mean there will be 13 teams next year.
The trick is to not go outside at all and then you have noooo idea what the weather is doing.
Your right.
Also if so bold, you could include a third round for a test driver but I think you might be short on time with that.
How will we decide the 13th team? Maybe the comments?
I like it.
You need to figure out a draft order. May I suggest drawing them out of a hat?
I had to, it was too nice. Besides, there were whales and dolphins jumping around, literally
Ah, the Giggles Method.
Ah I don't think I get how it works... I was thinking that we would each take turns to fill up our teams from any drivers we can think of?
So we pick our three teams then say Christine goes first and she has team X and picks Tato Head. Then it's Mr C and he has team Y and he can pick any driver except Tato Head. etc.
You are correct. I was thinking of a way to pick the order between the three of you.
Ah I see... Just once at the beginning. Right! On that...
Morning all! How are we today?
I was so close to going swimming. I drove 2.5 hours to spend 5 hours on a boat (the brother in laws cruiser - no marriages involved), and then 2.5 hours home again. I'm exhausted but happy.
I really need to work out a better rotation thing before I upload these things...
But anyway... Everyone should enjoy this a little advert for the Parade Lap this morning...
But it is especially for Amy...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sorryamy-mov
Gosh.
Morning all.
Morning!
Possibly a bit too much for 10am on a Sunday!
Definitely.....
Sorry about that... It won't happen again!
Fishing or sight seeing?
All promotions are good promotions.
The twirl was a nice touch.
I'm just jealous. I wish I had a cardie like that!
:)
It's available from Monsoon. Or rather it was.
It is really nice!
It's the little details :)
its loading very vey slowly on my munted internet. HURRY UP INTERNET.
#sorryamy
"munted"? Is that in the dictionary?
but of course. I haven't used it in about 10 years but I thought it was the perfect word to describe my connection today :D
Just a BBQ on the water while i was regaled with stories of first class flights to and from London, with 5 star hotel on Park Lane accomodation by my sister. I NEED to go to London!
How long until the Parade Lap? Do I have time to go and do something that'll take me an hour?
Shame. The whales were going NUTS off Broulee today.
As long as it takes 40 minutes ;-)
Awesome thanks, I think I'll risk it. See you guys in a bit :D
oh dear Giggles, if it works I'm going to have to ask that you wear that for the rest of the season.
Morning everybody.
I just found out, I'm the Luca Badoer of Wipeout HD.
Good morning all! Yay for parade lap and yay for being able to watch the f1 now!
Hehehehehe. That game is impossibly hard.
Morning everyone just joining us :)
Anyone with any predictions for the race?
I'm trying Phantom Class, which is the fastest. I can't turn quick enough.
RUBENS!!!!
Ahem...I mean... I think Barrichello has a chance.
Luca will finish last.
A McLaren to Win, which one, depends on a certain somebody, wearing a certain item of clothing during the race. :)
#GMM: Man wears purple to inspire McLaren victory.
:)
I've missed F1 so much this month that I'm really looking forward to a Valencian race. This is clearly what Bernie's objective was in order to make people like it.
Yay. I'm excited
Shame it's Valencia
Morning guys! :D
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/08/23/live-the-final-countdown/
Very very good point!
The difference in fuel between Hamilton and Kovalainen is only one lap - Heikki's final lap was a smidgen slower than his penultimate one.
This is the amount of laps each driver in Q3 did between their fastest lap and returning to parc fermé:
Hamilton +3
Kovalainen +2
Raikkonen +1
Alonso +2
Webber +1
Vettel +1
Rosberg +1
Button +1
Barrichello +1
Go Seahawks! Were they any good?
Will you be streaming live on your streams alex or doing it the traditional way?
Just did a bit of a catch-up, saw the IRL chat about qualifying and noticed the accident hasn’t been mentioned. It has removed two drivers from the entry this weekend as they are in hospital. {Comment #270}
That sounds horrific...
It was. Reminded me of Zanardi's crash
I am all set for my day because I am wearing my Heikki shirt.
I feel this can only mean good things for The Heikster. {Comment #280}
My Force India lanyard is within reach and I will put it on for good luck nearer the time...
Anyone with any predictions for the race? {Comment #352}
Hamilton to win at a canter
Kovalainen and Button to have the nearest thing to an exciting tussle that Valencia can produce, with Heikki just taking 2nd.
Webber and Barrichello to dispute 4th and finish in that order
Alonso to scrape a point
Badoer to be lapped twice but finish
Grosjean to hit a wall and retire after running in a surprisingly strong position
Sutil and Raikkonen to have a "coming-together"
The commentators to sound extremely bored for at least some of the time
Was that a can of red bull???
Where can we watch the IRL in the uk?
Vettel still looks happy, what a lovely guy.
10:30pm SkySportsX
Skysports, damn, I hope you techy people can find a free feed online for us ;)
Nicely handled Seb
Get on with it martin.
bummer - my first ever live F1 race was the last ever F1 win for Barrichello, no longer true ...
Good to see a happy lewis again!
Ooh, a sly "Rosburg smile" there?
"a waste of a car" - so true
Ah, yes, back to the comfort of the daily thread.
ok, NOW I sleep :D
Night Amy. Enjoy your 2 hours of sleep
good call!
Night
Night, Amy. ;)
See ya Amy
Grace soundtrack to end? How obscure!
*sits back in this thread*
Ahhhhh. Today isa good day. :)
Indeed. :D
They generally pick tracks for the Live Lounge albums
Dumbest story of the year. How can they possibley use a tonne of them?
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/77915
No FR results yet?
Costs them nothing to use.
Kathi's winning
Danny is probably still counting Kathi's points
In 2009. How did she do in 2010?
no, brainstorm should have won fr and riktum fr beta
you computed it already?!
the race was boring :)
A lot of wheels x4 x10
What is riktum fr beta?
Wheels and tyres are meant to be precision items. I would love to know how much weight the put on the average wheel. I love the idea of replacing lead with tin for envirnomental reasons. That is beyond stupid
team riktum2010 in fr 2010
Mr C is 3rd I think behind my little sister
Thanks
How are her bike injuries?
Any idea where I am? :)
Why is it stupid?
The tyres aren't 100% balanced. Even aircraft wheels are the same
Arsenic gets bad press :P
all healed, thanks for asking :)
Using tin is stupid. It does way more environmental damage than lead
My FR team had a bad day. 2, 3, 7, 8, Vettel
They should use ally or something
Mine was pretty good. 1, 5, 6, 7, 9
I think fifth.
Cool. :D I like the 2010 field - nice and small, easy to track changes in the order.
McCoist?
but I wouldn't trust my calculations :D I have to go see you later
Minium :)
That would make a lot more sense. Tin comes from alluvial deposits and unbelievable as it sounds there are people blasting away the floor ofthe Brazilian rain forest with high pressure hoses to extract the lead. In Indonesia they are dredging a coral reef for the same reason
Just point a camera and he will be thre
Bye Kathi
Though it is kinda light, is why lead has been favoured for years.
See ya Kathi
Kimi has aged
Erm, I thought you were asleep? :P
um. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D
That said, the facial expression looks like Kimi to me. :D
I'm hearing "Money For Nothing" in the background :D
:D
Sleep commenting?
where real kimi goes, his german shadow follows
I was trying to sleep, even had the airline eyemask on in an attempt to make it darker, but then I remembered I just *had* to check something.

For later... the IndyCar coverage starts in the US at 10pm UK for those watching on a stream.
People in the UK who have Sky Sports, Xtra has it from 10.30pm, and the race starts at 10.50pm. They start their races at crazy points during the hour.
Lose the sandals, as well as the mullet please
Is that so they can squeeze more adverts in?
Just quickly written this up to celebrate this excellent day :)
ever since I had Seb's love for Kimi pointed out to me, I notice how much he follows him around. And how he has memorised little facts about him, as shown in the post race :D
Probably
hi all. just saw the results, well done bar and a big yay for rob k. was the race worth watching?
No, it was Valencia
Watch the highlights, if they manage to find some
what's with the lower case?
Hey RG! It was a good race I thought, nor eason why :p
In all seriousness I thought it was miles better than 2008 anyways. Still no overtaking though.
Better than last year, but still not good enough.
Mobile commenting does that
Not really. It was marginally better than last year in that a couple of things actually happened, but otherwise a procession. The only good bits were the pit stops. Not good.
NO!
I didn't think it was much better at all. I liked the winner, I didn't like the 'race'.
@scott : on mobile, cheers to all about race. will lk for highlts
Same
missed bad race comments, will wait for season rview
Watch the FIA highlights in a week or so
Watch the highlights, they are only an hour.
We had Badoer to keep us interested
Great pic of Kimi and Seb on the F1 website laughing together...
Seb often tries to get close to Kimi, and after the drivers parade in Hungary Heikki jogged to catch up with the Kimster...
It was quite sweet....
yea you got the main results but did you get that Timo did the fastest lap!
will do. sun to enjoy now.bye
Agreed better race than last year despite no overtaking. In fact cars did not seem to get even close to each other for a look-in. Despite being around the dock it still seems a bit of a dump for a circuit but this year they got better photograph around the track.
yay for super qik timo
And Kimi doesn't have a mullet he has just grown his hair full stop....
When he hasn't just been in a hot sweaty race and he doesn't have his cap on it's clear...
I really like his hair this year...
What's a Brazilian GP win without Galvao Bueno? Not the best video quality, but it's the audio that counts here. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvsFv8-24b0
Why did Badoer pit three times?...
I know he had a drive through but he didn't pit until the one stoppers pitted at about lap 28 so why did he two stop?...
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77936
There are a lot of thinks in shot which become a lot clearer without his cap!
Didn't we know almost all of that during the coverage?
Splash & dash
Heavy right foot?
Ferrari have officially lost the plot in my opinion.
LDM owes Badoer for something
Simple - not enough time to hire a new driver and allow him any kind of time to bed in with the team. Better to keep Luca in for the back-to-back. Monza, though, might be a different story.
I don't care if he owes him a million quid. He sucks and has to be replaced. Now.
Yes - he owes him for 1999. ;)
He is not going to dump him live on TV without talking to him first and saying anything other than he expects him to be in the car would have that effect.
I agree, he didint say defiantly, and he also said he will be in a ferrari. I belive they have company cars
Well, you can see why they didn't use him back then
I think you will hear that Luca has decided that personal issues will prevent him from continuing to race and to thank Luca and the team for the opportunity. It will seem to be his decision which we all know to be hogwash. There is a chance they will keep him for Spa due to time constraints. PK senior will be frantically calling Ferrari to organise that they consider PK junior (who in truth would have done a better job).
They will probably say that because he has not raced for so long that he found the physical strain more than he expected and his neck is not up to it.
and of course they could add with no in-season testing it has not helped.
Or just say, we made a mistake - he was terrible :)
of course he is a good driver, dont let his suffering under flav distract you. ;)
They will not do that - I think the number of mistakes was more significant than his slowness - making both is too much.
Flav had the same effect on Heikki
He seems to be just too demanding in terms of driver quality.
I has the Ashes fever, and i think there is only 1 cure...
That quote was from the beeb coverage...
I think you'll find Stephano isn't the type to say stuff on TV before talking to the driver...
He said they'd discuss it and it was "likely" Luca would drive...
He knows they won't use him but didn't want to tell the beeb first....
Drunkeness?
I would go the other way on that. A couple of spins an lack of concentration coming out of the pits can be sorted. If a driver is fast and erratic you can harness the speed and make him better like Rob did with Massa but if he is slow there is nothing you can do. If a driver of his age and experience is 2 seconds a lap off the pace with a full weekend's running then he is not going to get significantly better.
and a whole host of others
It is a required national service
2009 FR results are out - I'm now 92nd. w00t! no word on 2010 results yet, though.
anyway, I'm off to bed. Enjoy the show, everyone. :D
See ya Journeyer
Night Journeyer
If anyone wants to post team reports on the FR performance today please mark as #FR and Christine may readthem on the show.
Oh, I'd forgotten! Thanks Steven :)
Right, I must bid you guys farewell for a week or so. I'm off to my dad's in about an hour and he's currently got no internet so I'll try and pop in on my lunch breaks via iPhone during the week. Take care of yourselves and I'll see you guys in a week. I'm off to go pack. Bye! :)
It seems that the Ashes have been won by England.
See ya Scott
#FR
Kathi crashed through the 10k barrier with 10799 points
Team Brainstorm also broke through 10K but are 774 points behind couchpotato.
Sidepodcast continue to dominate the private leagues with 9481.8 points followed by Autosport on 8771.4 amd Hello F1 in 3rd with 8702.8
Team Victory or bust made a little progress today moving up to 192nd with good scores for Kimi and Lewis and with Jenson and Bobby K contributing points. However little Seb has been sent to bed early and is grounded until Friday for blowing up 2 engines this weekend.
I have grabbed some headlines for you. If you want anything wlse let me know and I will get it since you are probably busy
#FR - A mixed day for Formula Muse. Whilst we are now 100th spot on, the last time I checked I was about 80th. however this was 3 races ago, so since then, I can assume our team dropped down to 500th and since then have made a wonderful recovery like true champions. This was no doubt thanks to our fantastic young talent, Rubens Barrichello, who will be a driver to watch with eager eyes in the future.
That's awesome. Would you be able to find where me and Mr C are?
In a young driver I would agree with you, but in a veteran driver? The mistakes suggest to me that Luca is too rusty to be allowed to drive an F1 car. At the start with KERS he got to 14th - if he had consolidated that position he would have secured 13th with Vettel's retirement. This is a circuit with no-overtaking s that result would have satisfied me if I were the boss. Today, Badoer was a total embarrassment.
#Feedback England have won the ashes!
#FR
One team on the biggest followers list is Longitudinal Inertia entered by Mr Christine which dropped 301 places having scored 200 points.
One team on the biggest climbers list is commenter shindigthighslapper whose team rose 306 places with a score of 652
I will try.
Oh my gosh I just watched back on my qik live streaming of rubens winning. It will cause serious motion sickness I think from all the jumping about and shouting in excitement...
Luheh, your spelling your name differently today
We would also like to talk about the 2010 Fantasy Racers beta trial thing. I know nothing about it and Mr C has lost the URL.
Help!
Blame the parade lap and the confusion between 'Luca' Badoer and my username :P
evening
the url is http://www.fsports.co.uk/fantasyracers2010/ and the rue changes are at http://fantasyracers.com/game/ideasfor2010.php (the scores haven't been updated yet)
#FR
Longitudinal Inertia are in 381st place after scoring 200 points today for a season's total of 4955.
Sidepodcast Racers score 532 points for a total of 6947 and are in 107th
#FR
Team Sandbagging is in a downward spiral despite a fairly new driver line up. Today the team scored only 539 points but is still in top 100 of the Sidepodcast league. It could have been worse because Hamilton was drafted in to replace Button. After having Robert and Fernando on the team all year they were dropped only for both to score points.
I don't get this 2010 thing, is it a trial run of next year's FR rules?
If there is variable pricing I won't be entering
No-one has anything to say about their Fantasy Racers team? I don't believe it. If you have a comment / press release from your team remember to mark it #FR
#fr after a disastrous showing at Hungary, Empty Stands bounced back with their greatest performance this year. The two and a half Finns finished strongly in the points, as did home favourite Alonso, whilst Sutil failed to capatalise on a strong showing in practice still managed to pick up a good points haul. The team are still happy to be not last.
I gave up, I really don't care about my team anymore
The press releases are fun though
It keeps people interested and I have found that I now notice what dribers are scoring points as a result.
I guess so, the variable pricing was a bad move this year, I can't believe it's staying
Awww just replaying my recorded race footage (so I can see the interviews and stuffs, not the race!) and it went all fuzzy just at the bit Rubens did his dance so I've still missed it. Gutted :(
Really, really like today's F1 Big Picture.
Hello new wallpaper :)
So... today Rubens Barrichello wins his first race in 5 years, and now I discover the lead singer of Muse is gonna be in the next Guitar Hero game accompanied by one of their better old songs to play.
...'scuse me whilst my mind implodes due to the sheer amount of utter stupendous awesome that is currently being put through my fragile little mind from todays events.
Ashes too
what a super duper day. Also, Massa has thanked Rubens for all his support :D
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77953
Also, check this out:
Massa, who contributed to Brazilian television channel TV Globo's coverage of the event via SMS text, added: "I followed the race also by my laptop, taking a close look at the live timing.
He's basically a sidepodder already!! Quick, tell Rob to divert his attention this way ;)
:D
Has this clip been posted?
3:30 in..Stephano:. "all the drivers are fast... almost all the drivers are fast *glance at Badoer*"
Ouch! Did not notice that today
Getting some very funny drunken twitpics from the cricket people!
Frank doesnt seem to have the hang of the steering :P
Franck :(
Nick, come over to the thread about irl :P
