Free Practice was a bizarre thing to be hold. The morning session was even less interesting than I thought it was going to be, whilst the afternoon more than made up for it. Goodness knows what today is going to bring. Either way, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Badoer is hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Not only was he a little on the slow side yesterday, but he also managed to receive four penalties from the FIA for speeding in the pitlane. Three of them involved a monetary sum, so poor Badoer must be feeling the pinch by now. At least he is a record breaker though.
- Hamilton had a brush with the wall yesterday that saw him sit an entire practice session out as they didn't have the parts to fix his car. This does seem slightly weird, that they didn't have a regular ol' wing to stick on the car, but the team seem to know what they're doing.
- And, of course, on the subject of McLaren, Whitmarsh nicely announced that Alonso is going to Ferrari next year. Naturally he isn't part of the team in question, but he seemed pretty sure when he said the entire paddock's movements will rest on that one move. Bless.
- Also a quick plug for Nick's new blog: The F1 Rundown. A daily glimpse of the top stories of the day, with added opinions from the author. Yesterday's entries include the aforementioned Alonso to Ferrari story, so head on over to see what's new.
That'll do it for now. We'll be around for Free Practice 3 and Qualifying, so I hope you'll join us in the live comments. I will see you there.
Hellooooo Saturday
*waves*
I am trapped in south London!
Run, run for your life!
there are no trains!
Did we miss this?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/aug/04/nelson-piquet-bmw-sauber-formula-one
How have you ended up there? Do you live in London?
Have you been kidnapped? I bet you went outside didn't you?
Heard of walking?
Like the blog post BTW.
Oh no, that sounds bad.
No. We discussed that at the time
News to me.
Have we discussed why LewHam is bookies favourite to win on Sunday??
It's been rumoured for a few days.
The Piquets are trying to keep on top of the headlines during the silly season
McLaren are on the up, have KERS, Brawn don't seem to have tall their tyre issues solced, Red Bull not shown much promises on Friday
I'd say judging on today's practice they're about 90% on top of them.
They also had Alonso as more likely than Rubens which seemed harsh.
This would be disastrous. If Piquet Jr is as bad as he appears to be, then having his own team would be the worst thing for their family.
They probably think just because he's playing a home crowd, it'll give him a boost. Yeah, this ain't BATracer...
Morning, everyone.
Indeed. AUTOSPORT says that:
Maybe in qualifying today, but probably not tomorrow. Still, I have Alonso down for some points - maybe around 6th?
Good morning Journeyer
Interesting bit from AUTOSPORT's Alonso interview:
Hmmm... That's tough. I'm sure the fans feel much more appreciated now. :(
Good morning Mr. Bunny. :D
Hey look, Badoer's talking to Rob. I wonder what Rob is thinking. Maybe he's humming Felipe Baby? Too bad we can't see his face.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77844
Hey Journeyer
Bookies don't know too much about F1 and are deceived by FP2
Oooh. Also from Alonso's interview:
Interesting that he offered to help Grosjean, who is a promising talent. Talents used to take advantage of this - I remember JYS talking about being mentored by Jim and Graham, and he himself mentoring Francois Cevert later in his career. But other than the Schumi-Massa relationship, I guess drivers are too afraid to do that nowadays?
Am curious as to his success in GP2 though
Were there only two decent teams in 2007?
Alonso will qualify well and probably pit very soon after the warm-up lap
Hmmm. Didn't this bit of news come out before Peter Sauber announced the breakdown in negotiations? Not sure what's changed since then.
That is bad.
The car was fully set up to Nelsinho. I think he's the type that would be very quick if he had the perfect car under him. But if anything doesn't suit what he wants, he falls off the pace quickly.
Dare I say it, like Button
Or Kimi
Drivers are surround by managers now and have very individual career paths. There is also much reduced risk so if someone is hopeless or lost they are not life threatening.
The article is dated Aug 4. Old news
I'd agree with this - to a certain extent. I think Button's not too bad at setting up a car - how would he have done so well in 2002 or 2003 if he wasn't? Piquet, on the other hand...
I think you'll find many drivers like this.
Re: Nelson in GP2. Seen the stats. Didn't watch the series. Interesting.
Maybe
Piquet can't be terrible though, maybe thye Renault doesn't suit him
Unless of course, he brought suitcases of cash to Renault
[Or Flav thought he would]
Hmmm... I don't agree with this one so much. He won the title in a 2007 car that wasn't really suited to him, I think. He also made the 2003 McLaren go a lot faster than it should've. The main issue with Kimi, I think, is his dedication to work on the car.
I think Piquet is good so long as he feels confident but when he loses confidence in himself, the car or the team he crumbles
I started watching GP2 mid way through 2007 [after hearing about Lewis' epic recovery in Turkey - such overtaking]
Didn't get too excited by Piquet though. But still...
To be fair, McLaren lost that championship, Kimi inherited it
Though it must be said, I am a fan of Kimi's. He just frustrates me so
True, but it could've been Massa's had things gone differently.
Note to self:
Campaign tomorrow for widespread distribution of whatever comes between a bottle of wine and a magnum. Cos two bottles is just greedy
Am sure Mr C will back me up on this
Maybe last year, not 2007
Young drivers like to think they are better than their peers. This is more a modern social statement though.
Experienced drivers are less likely to share their experience these days with a younger team mate also, to gain an advantage.
The whole Clark/Hill/JYS/Cevert story is a heartwarming tale, although really sad at the end. Would make a brilliant movie though.
'Twas more a gentleman's era back then
But Massa was ahead of Kimi for at least the first half of that season.
Because Kimi couldn't get to grips with the Ferrari
And still can't. My respect for him returns when he goes back to McLaren or chooses WRC [or retirement]
JYS told Tyrrell to sign Cevert because he knew he was so good. I can't imagine a top driver doing that now.
Kimi & Lewis in an on form McLaren = return to the Golden Days!
After what Mr Whitmarsh said yesterday, your respect for him might return in 3 weeks time...
Very true.
I want to see that
I'd like to believe it but I really don't
He's posturing. Either for Heikki's performance gain or Nico's signature.
He's chancing his arm that Kimi will be bought out of his contract. If he is, there will certainly be a "no F1 for a year" clause
I always feel Kimi would rather be doing something else than driving for Ferrari or even in F1. I don't sense any passion there.
That would never happen, although I hold a hope that Lewis will do so when he's reaching his retirement. I feel he has a bigger sense of respect than many other drivers. My opinion though.
I think we may be the only ones but it would be unstoppable if the car is right
Actually, we'd have Gavin onboard
Fighting off Amy :)
He is just not very expressive. He only wants to race.
In a good car. Only
There's been many a time when you haven't seen Kimi, then towards the end, he's posting quick laps when it's too late. Or am I wrong here?
Just him saying, "I can when I want to"
For 60 laps is too much but he's making a point, IMHO
But if he can go faster, why doesn't he? Oh well.
The problem is his driving style does not suit the car. He can only really lean on it late in races when there is enough rubber down to give the kind of grip he needs. Put him in a 2007 or 2008 McLaren instead of a 2007/8 Ferrari and he would have been much better. He chose exactly the wrong time to leave the team
I don't know what's funnier about FP2 yesterday - Schumi sticking his tongue out or Nico swatting a bug with an F1 car. :D
True. Hey, at least he's won a title.
Not bad for a wrong decision... :D
I had enough I snapped
@5LiveF1, @LeeMcK, @sarahholtf1, Can someone PLEASE sort out the terrible navigation on the BBC F1 site? Fer chrissakes!
Someone had to say it
I only watched the 1min version on BBC F1, and the most memorable bit was that the Beach was full.
I fear it may be his only one. Shame
Hello everyone,
The more I see of SpeedTV's online videos relating to F1, the more I like it.
Steve Matchett has a great video on the engineering which goes into keeping the tires onto the car. I've posted the video on my blog.
They'll probably say something to the effect that someone else does it. ;)
I don't care what they say, if the mesage gets back to the code monkeys... job done
Believe it or not, I think it's current version is an improvement on what it was like at the start of the year. It seems hard to believe it could be worse as I look at it now but I'm pretty sure it was.
It's the archiving (or lack of....) that really lets it down now.
I don't feel like he's wanting a 2nd title though.
I like his chalk talks
He only wins for the champagne & girls :)
Or the sheer lack of logical placement
I wanted to find today's FP session highlights, I gave up
And obviously the ice cream when he doesn't. (I should really leave that one alone now)
Are those the tyres that they sell across the pond? ;)
But there's so much mileage there (excuse the pun)
If he didn't he would walk away.
If you go to the homepage, below the "Video & Audio coverage" bar, the middle link below that is a report.
...and he just might. We'll find out in 3 weeks.
Yeah, the difference between tires and tyres is the weight it has to carry.
Ta
"Report - Alonso quickest despite crash " does not scream FP1 / FP2 highlights to me. It kinda should
Steven, what's your take on the reports by Whitmarsh that Alonso is def going to the Scuderia next year?
I know. I wasn't even looking for highlights, and I clicked it, and got them.
Will they have a definitive answer on Massa's future by Monza?
For "highlights", read "report" in BBC slang.
Sounds like it is a done deal. I had never bought the rumours because they have been circulating for years but the way he said it sounded like he knew it was a fact.
Worse... kept... secret... ever.
I think it was enviable the day Alonso left McLaren.
You see my problem?
Ok, I'm drunk... but I think it equates to the unwashed masses out there ;)
That is down to the doctors.
Inevitable, you mean? ;)
This even beats the persistent rumors of Schumi's retirement in 2006.
But if I were to guess, he's good to drive in 2010.
He's saying Brazil. I'd say the skull fracture is the biggest issue now for Felipe. Until that is strong, there is no way he should be racing.
(*falls to knees, raises hands to sky*)
Damn you auto spell correct. You've been officially turned off.
Too early to say, I think Ferrari will have a decent back up which we may never know about. Kubica, Liuzzi... I don't know. But they will
Wasn't that Shumi?
It's not the fracture, it's the soft tissue behind it - the grey stuff ;)
Brazil is a dream, which may not be realistic. Too early to say
If I had a brain injury, i wouldn't be thinking about my return
If his neck is ok by Jan for racing in March/April
He had an injury to the frontal lobe.
Desktop Doohickey fail for me too :)
Right I'm gonna say it...
Kimi to WRC
Anando to Ferrari with Felipe
Nico and Lewis at McLaren.
Kubica AND Heidfeld to Williams.
Kazuki to Sportscars.
Luca to testing.
Michael to sitting on the pitwall.
That is going to depend on the injury to the back of his skull then his fitness
Kimi to WRC with Fiat
Anando to Ferrari with Felipe
Nico and Lewis at McLaren
Kovalainen AND Heidfeld to Williams
Kubica to Renault
Funny... for years, I swear the guy was made out of liquid metal.
Exactly. Long, long recovery. For a mid that needs the focus of an F1 driver.
Then again, every injury is unique
(Frontal lobe injuries are not unusual in increased risk taking tendancies. That may be for more severe cases. Just saying)
This is a new thing? :P
Feasible
Except Robert AND Nick
Kubes yes, Nick to stay with Sauber Phoenix F1
No just want to really really enforce that one! :)
Mrs Shoe Maker has said NO. Case over
Williams Toyota contract says they have to run a Toyota development driver.
I can't see Kimi leaving F1 like this.
Alonso and Massa at Ferrari makes a lot of sense as they both like the same kind of car and it is the kind Ferrari make.
Rosberg may go to McLaren but he blew his chance to go for big money two years ago
Badoer definitely won't race
1Schumacher just renewed his contract as an advisor to Ferrari so he is not going to race either.not
You think Kubica's been better than Heidfeld of late? I reckon Kubica's missed his chance for a move to a decent team now. He needed to seal it last season when he was still hot property (obviously he had no reason then to think BMW wasn't a good bet but still....)
I know if Mrs Bunny says no, I know where I stand!
Could Williams drop Toyota for Cosworth? Or, with cheaper engines for 2010, could Williams decide they no longer need the discount?
His stock has dropped at exactly the wrong time. Careers like his have ended at this stage before
That's assuming the Hinwil team manage to win their spot back. What happens if someone else gets it?
No chance
Kubica was in a similar bracket to Vettel. The team let him down at the end of 2008. I have faith in the Polish one. Give him a good team structure and I reckon he'll shine.
I think Williams will see how USF1 and whoever else will actually make it to the grid fair with the engine. My felling is that it will not go well next year for the Cosworth teams.
And look at Vettel - we thought he screwed up by moving to RBR, and he's doing a lot better now than many of us thought he would. F1 has always been about being at the right place at the right time.
With all their staff and infrastructure? It'd be a piss take.
In that case, we'll have 2 K's at Williams:
Kovalainen and Kobayashi.
Yeah, but really?
But where else will he go?
Agreed
Seems to want a career now
You think he will this year?
They should rename him "RBS" and he can be bank-rolled by Banca d'Italia
You're all just trying to make me like him by comparing him to Vettel aren't you :P
oh, shoot. how about Nico Hulkenberg? it's gonna be Hulkenberg and Kobayashi, I think.
Kovalainen will probably end up with one of the backmarkers.
Why take Kobayashi ahead of Nakajima?
McLaren, Toyota, Brawn
Kubica's is a bigger talent than Nick (quite reliable) Heidfeld IMHO
What's Nakajima done in the last 2 seasons? Toyota hasn't exactly been the most patient of teams...
Kimi's last team will be Ferrari. Either he stays with them, or he moves out of F1.
Basoer is not going to be as bad as he looked today. He is not going to challenege Kimi but he is not going to be anywhere near last.
Or by 2012 it could be known as the Mercedes Ferrari F1 Championship
Will he manage to score points? Is he good enough to get on the podium?
I don't know what it is, maybe my spider senses (ok I made that one up) but Kubica is something special.
Hülkenberg deserves a break in F1 like di Resta but i think they will be with one of the new teams
Pete Postlethwaite is crap at hairpins
I am not so sure. Nick will do a lot more to help the team progress
He's not Schumacher
With Gilette and Wilkinson Sword maybe? ;)
What on earth do we think Renault are going to do without their golden boy?
Williams would be stupid to let go of Hulkenberg to a new team.
Willi would also be stupid to let Nico H leave Williams, which is a well-established team.
Spend a bit more on their car, than their driver.
True but that depends how good you think Rosberg is. Kobayashi has done nothing outstanding. People talked about Lewis getting the silver spoon treatment from McLaren as if it was responsible for his results. Kobayashi has had the same treatment from Toyota and won nothing.
True, but he's not Alonso, either, who's always looking for the best seat available. I just don't see Kimi driving in F1 with any other team now.
They have a golden boy?
Renault is Flav. Without his bull, they'd have exited long ago, maybe still will
Grosjean will find his way, but he'll find it hard to steer a team
I'm not saying it's the right decision, only that it will be the decision, I think.
On your plan of the grid, there aren't really any top-flight drivers hanging around waiting for the seats though, they need at least one decent driver surely? Rubens? :P
Points should be possible but not a podium at this race. If he is in for the rest of the season a podium is possible depending how he improves and if Ferrari do their usual Monza trick.
Hello people um well I think that Gene should be in the Ferrari and not Badoer because think Gene won the Le Mans 24 Hours, that's bigger than any Formula 1 race expect maybe Monaco and Badoer is just plain poo and can't drive so basically Ferrari made a stupid decision and after Hungary their whole season is gonna go downward and (crying) Schumacher or Schumi isn't coming back,I was already disappointed he wasn't going to drive in Valencia but this is the worst night of my life I am a huge Schumacher fan I'm really gonna cry now and that may sound weird to some anti Schumi or Schumacher fans no offense see ya sidepodcast and rock on guys love ya god bless you and goodbye from the US.
I'd say the Mac is a better option than Frank's best for a couple of years at least
Same as they did when they were Benetton and lost Schumacher. Stumble around going nowhere until they find the next one.
I'm talking of Nico H, not Nico R. :D
He'll stay at Brawn I think. I can't believe I forgot the Brawns *slaps own hand*. Unless he retires. I'd like to add that Rubens is only slightly older than me.
They would put him on a manageent contract so they had an option on him each year.
That Brawn seat is an option for Kubica. If he doesn't get it, it'll end up with Rubens or Bruno Senna.
Do you think Williams will take him up on it next season?
If he leaves Ferrari before the end of his contract he has something to prove. Before his move to Ferrari was known about a lot of people said they could never see him leaving McLaren.
p.s. does anyone know where to find full free george lopez (comedian) episodes if so please tell me and thank you Steven Roy for saying that Schumi wasn't going to drive
He is nowhere near good enough to ever lead the team
Oh, then I'd agree :)
Though they should bite Kubica's leg off if it didn't harm his driving
I'm sure I've heard Kimi say he'll leave F1 when he leaves Ferrari.
The only people on the grid who could take over a car designed round Alonso's odd driving style are Massa and Kubica as they are the only other extreme understeer drivers.
Hi Edgar.
Though this may be his swansong
[same age as me too]
I saw him leaving McLaren, TBH. He couldn't win a title with them. He's now won one with Ferrari.
Gene is the obvious choice as he has current racing and winning experience. I will never know why they chose Badoer.
They don't handle those too well do they?
Google is [probably] your friend
Welcome, Edgar, by the way
I don't see Kubica fitting in at Brawn
so basically kimi has no other contract options other than WRC
I also heard Max say he'd retire ages ago
Who knows. Hülkenberg looks to be a bit special and with a year's experience for F1 if he delivers has to be in with a serious chance of a Williams seat.
They owe him something - horse head related?
Just saying
Ok how about Kubica and Lewis? That's my outside bet.
Hah. To be fair, I don't think that's really the same now is it.... I know you should never say never and if he fancies it elsewhere he'll go for it but I can't see him improving his chances of a championship by moving and surely that must be the goal
He says things like that and always has. He is just setting out a negotiating position. He always says his current contract could well be his last. It's all bull to get the price up. He is a bit of a modern Gerhard Berger.
I seriously doubt it. Possible, but unlikely.
I'd also like that
Driving styles? Not sure of the BMW's tendancies
If he is leaving Ferrari a lot of teams will be interested. Toyota are prepared to write any size cheque to get a star driver in the car.
C'mon. Who could stay awake then?
Polar opposite driving styles. Getting a car set up to suit both would be near impossible. McLaren somehow managed it with Alonso but I doubt they could do it again.
So the grid next year looks like this:
Ferrari:
Alonso
Massa
McLaren:
Lewis
???
Brawn
Jenson
???
Red Bull
Mark Webber
Seb Vettel
Renault:
Romain Grosjean?
???
Toyota
Glock
Trulli
Williams
???
(Insert Japanese driver here)???
USF1
(Insert American driver here)???
???
Toro Rosso
Tim
Buemi
Force India
Sutil
???
Sauber, Campos, Manor... who knows.
Personally, I think Kimi is jaded by F1. I hope I'm wrong
Plus, if Ferrari can afford to pay him off, why let a a talent like his drive for the opposition when he could turn his hand to another formula?
I would like to see what would happen if Toyota put an aggressive driver in their car.
Where's your commitment? ;)
If he wants to keep racing and Ferrari want rid of him he has them over a barrel. Either they give him a car or let him drive for someone else. Why would he sign a contract not to race for a year when they are contractually obliged to pay him next year anyway.
I like your style, but whos this ??? fellow? I like the sound of him.
You're missing Rosberg who's presumably at either McLaren or still in his Williams seat.
Do you think Kovalainen will get a seat? Is he a better bet than a rookie?
I would like to see Toyota give a damn about Motosport since Celicas
RG wouldn't have ???? He would be naming test drivers, engineers, catering personnel
Pay him to drive a rally car?
Not a good one
[sorry Amy]
Will we still have to say that next year when he's at Force india?
He must be appealing to midfield and new teams as he has experience of a top team.
Kimi needs to get the eye of the tiger back.
I should of added so far. Sorry, I did it from memory of who has contracts next year. I think the Alonso thing has been done for a long, long time.
Depends if he goes backwards, which is pretty hard in a Force India right now.
He ever had it? :)
Though am lovin' the montage imagery (with a fat mansell)
Back at Renault perhaps? ;)
Indeed. But with people like Kubica on the market, and most of the open seats in midfield, I don't see Heikki on the top of most teams' lists.
#sorryamy
Only if they don't get Kubica, I think.
They'll have a few more stragglers behind them making VJ look like Puff Daddy [shudders]
Signing a star driver puts everything else in the company under pressure because there is no doubt about the driver. Their management system will have to perform or change. I can see them hiring a top driver and doing what Renault and Ferrari did to Prost. Sacking him because he refused to accept their failures and pushed them so hard they cracked. It was easier for them to fire the only guy with a clue about winning the championship than to fix the problems.
Marlboro has the bucks
I think you'll find it's P Diddy these days. :D
Only if that is his choice. If he says he wants to drive F1 they have to give him a car or pay up
I suspect he'll want it. If not, Ferrari will pay up.
VERY good point.
He'll always be Sean in my eyes. Just Sean
Apparently he has dropped the P now and is just Diddy
Why would Marlboro pay to get rid of Raikkonen so that Santander get Alonso in the seat. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Sean from the block. Borrowin' other dudes' tunes.
And he's on tour with Ken Dodd during the summer season with his "Diddy Men".
I command you to pay me to drink Cristal for 365 days, whilst attempting to balance on a yacht.... in a gorilla suit.... whilst being lapdanced!
Because they have as much to gain as getting Alonso in that seat. It's not like Kimi is of any PR value to them.
Who said Santander own the whole shebang?
Ahh, maybe there's a clue in Santander. A new sponsor for Ferrari. Right colour, right Driver.
'Borrowing' like "someone borrowed my wallet in the shopping centre last week"?
Santander stands to gain but Marlboro don't.
Abso-filppin'-lutely :D
*flippin. Still thinking about Felipe
Santander according to the rumours are backing Alonso. Alonso can't get in unless Kimi can be persuaded to move out. So Santander are the interested party.
If Marlboro DO own the ad space then there may be a clause that determines Santanders's fee
On an Alonso signature, that is
In that case Santander still pay. They may pay indirectly but if they don't put the money in the pot Marlboro are not going to take it out.
This is very reminiscent of a certain German driver who joined an Italian team at the same time as Shell did.

It's your fault that I will miss FP3 and probably live quali - and not not some chilean bloke with a shiraz handbook
That is all. Thank you
I forgot to say :D
Well..... I was working away before you all coaxed me on here under the pretext of giving me advice :P
We gave you valuable life lessons ;)|
Yeah, but will you miss much? Apart from people on a Beach?
Depends how long your doohicky has been open
It was the beach personages I was concerned about!
At least we helped
Sorry

We did. It might have been bad advice, but it was still, advice. :)
The dockyard industrial estate. Nothing says F1 like a dockyard industrial estate.
Now, if it was blinds you needed to put up...
Mine has been open for hours. There are lots of people at the bottom who went to bed ridiculously early
I think the best advice I could have right now is to stop putting it off, sit myself down and get it done!
That said, I'm way to sleepy for coherent thoughts right now....
How is the sporting injury you sustained to your knuckles now?
What happened to Journeyer?
Did he fall asleep catching up with Valencia 'highlights'?
There's a McFly concert no more than 2 miles from my house on Sunday, should I go instead?
I remember when I could leave it open for days. All this was fields...
You should go somewhere
Go to bed and don't think about it. It will magically be OK in the morning. Sleep does incredible things to the brain
He probably has half his keyboard tatooed on his face
I think Steven and I said that hours ago
Yes. You'll be able to process things much clearer on a good night's sleep.
We couldn't both be wrong
Big F1 accident on Journeyer's face
I'm still here. :D Fiddling with my speakers while watching a documentary on Napoleon on the History Channel.
It's be like crossing the streams
It's a bit Devil and Deep Blue Sea. Rubbish music or Rubbish Racing.
That joke turns up more often than who's on first.
It's not due for about 6 weeks. It's just I can see us having a very similar conversation at this kind of time in the morning 6 weeks from now. I'm not naturally organised!
F2's on 2nd?
I'd save that for Sunday afternoon!
Jean Todt has barely etired and they are making documentaries about him already.
If the main courses aren't great go for the best side dish or pudding.
I'd choose oblivion via alcohol and headphones
The real Napoleon was forced out, but he made a comeback - only to lose at Waterloo.
What will be Todt's Waterloo?
We specialise in stuff like this but normally with Lou
I thought said F1 accident is unmentionable?
Hopefully Ari is Wellington
There's a whole heap of those jokes coming
Bill & Ted's ...
Must switch the webcam off.

If only Napoleon had tennis racqquets and baseball bats history could have been so different
You mean on. Most important to live stream at this time of day.
The ROFLCopter brought it back to visit the kids during the summer holidays

That is banned.
The copter's banned too?

Mr C would EXPLODE!
I stopped following the baseball earlier because I had so many tabs open my computer was dying. Yankees were 6-1 up at Fenway after the 2 inning. Just checked and it is now 20-7 in the top of the ninth. Looks like I chose the wrong day not to watch.
It has been banned for ages.
Laughter powered flying vehicle [or some such]
Oh, yeah! Now I remember! Stupid memory loss. :P
Get a ...
Ah whatever :)
So, here's my dilemma
I've been invited to Sweden, I can go cheaply only after Ocober arrives
It will be freezing b*ll*ck cold in November
The invitees are hot 18 year olds. I'm nowhere no where near 18
I should go in the summer, yes?
Go in winter when you have been invited. It will be great.
I think it's an open invite but flights are cheaper in winter, yes?
This some kind of test?
Go in october. Why not.
Sorry, after October.
-25 C
That's colder than Scoltland during the last Ice Age. There has been no promise of saunas
Gotta be October. :D
Bassano is in the industry and gets deals on flights regularly
I work for an airline, my mate will travel for free with me only after October [I have a cousin's wedding in Greece before then]
It will be bloody expensive regardless, when we arrive
Saunas are assumed. It is nothing special to them. What chance is there of 18 year olds inviting you again? The worst that can happen is you end up in a bar drinking.
If I go there in November, it would be lime kitting up for skiing for the first time
Did I say how hot they were?
*like, not lime
that keeps happening tonight
Steven - game FINALLY ends 20-11 Yankees. 4-hour game...
You expect them to sit about till summer waiting for you?
You have a very good point
I do want to see the Northern lights and it may be something like 18 hour nights by that time :)
I'm very close to calling you Yoda
These are not the Swedes you are looking for ;)
I was watching the graphical feed and getting worried. I would have sent Rivera in to shut them down before they had scored 4 runs in the ninth
Night time is always the best time, just not for spelling or typing, amazed if spelling is correct in this post.
nah, it wouldn't have been worth it until it was, say, 20-15. they made the right decision, i think.
The beginning of November is 8 weeks from the shortest day which means in Scotland it gets dark two hours later than that and light two hours earlier. In Sweden depending how far north you are should be about two hours more daylight than mid-December
I am at the point where if I was out I'd be saying how inebriated I was, and everyone else would be wanting to go to the next nightclub.
Guess I should hunt for ski wear as well as a wedding suit tomorrow
That's assuming I ever get up, that is. Always been my problem
Damn lack of 24hr shops
Opportunities you should take.
Malmö, is very far South
That's what the internet is for. Impuls purchases when you have had too much wine.
It's the same as here so you should have about 13/14 hours darkness
I still believe the best man when he said my cousin's suit was silver.
[Cousin said shiny grey]
Never, ever buy clothes whilst intoxicated. Or do the hoovering (Gwyneth)
Only more alcohol
[yes, I've been to Scotland]
{My Irish roots insisted upon it}
Buying clothes while hoovering? Interesting concept
Dancing too, don't do that whilst pi.... inebriated. Then ask a loved one to video it.
Not a fan of 'Absolutely'?
Dancing yes, recording it No, never. Really, never ever
I don't remember that being in it.
Ooh, vaguely remember that. Stonybridge?
Ok, just got to go delete something, won't be long.
Can I just say
BAD o er
not
Bad-DO'ER
I am going to crack first and go to bed. The insane part of my brain wants to drag me out of my bed on a Saturday morning to watch F1 cars in an industrial estate. That's like playing golf in a windmill.
The place with the Stoney Bridge
Visit Stoneybridge
I LOVE minigolf! :D
Night, Steven. ;)
Lightweight
Cheers Steven, catchya tomorrow... sometime
Night all.
Alison stop thinking about it.
I might be a little drunk occifer, but I bet I'll be awake for the Qualifying. (famous last words)
That's always been my problem, thinking about tomorrow
Night Sir Steven.
I've on;y had a couple of ales
[would need to stay up all night to make it]
(But will do that anyway sometime between now and monday's start time of 06:00)
I'd like to say, if there's ever a Sidepodcast Xmas party, I would be the drunkest, and the one most likely to embarrass oneself.
When you say drunk...
Do you mean, has consumed the most or would appear the most?
You need to be at the next SidepodMeet-up, I need a shots partner at the bar, I think Nick may join us if he escapes the tramps of Waterloo
Probably both.
Whoah, Shots? Pfff. *hic* Yeah!
There's one next Thuraday, it's prbably Christmas somewhere in the world
Waterloo, 7ish
Myself, Giggles & Nick
No drills required
But plenty of yammering!
No doubt
I may consider looking at the leave book for next Friday
Startledbunny - Are you near this end of the world?
South East England, I mean
No, more West Yorkshire.
Think Shannon Matthews. "That" kind of area.
Too far away. :(
Christmas it is then ;)
Should have a Northern Meet-Up though.
RG, yourself, Steven Roy could come down
Ha ha yes, get our caps out and grumble about those Southern types etc. Whilst we drink our cheaper beer.
I'm planning to be south in September for a day, could make it a night too. Nothing firm though.
Must go now though.
Hope you make it for Final Quali tomorrow. Even though it will be an anti-climax probably.
Night!
See ya Mr Bunny
Someone's up early
Looks all dark and cloudy here. Bet it's brilliant sunshine in Valencia.
It is overcast and cold here and I just read a story in the news about a women killed by a tree in the wind yesterday. Now I am even more pleased the KFC trip resulted in no loss of life (other than the tasty, tasty chickens)
Gosh! That is some serious wind. I hate the wind.
Wind ruins everything. There is nothing worse than a sunny day that you know would be lovely and warm if it wasn't for the FREEZING cold wind.
Morning everyone...
Boxed Chicken
Morning.
How are we all this morning?
for the next few days I might have to live solely off fruit salad because I went a little overboard when I made it (and theres no grapes in it because I ate every single last one of them)
I'm doing some work... Not work work, but creative work
and where is the livestream of this work?
I have a kind of toothache which is annoying. Also, I washed my hair this morning, forgot it was short, and used too much shampoo. Lots of bubbles.
Other than that, all is good! :)
It wouldn't be very exciting... I am just sitting with headphones on clicking.
you really overestimate how much excitement we need to find livestreaming interesting.
Which kind of toothache? Sorry to hear that.
I do that all the time... Or rather whenever I have my haircut. The variation in shampoo requirement is huge.
Heh! Presumably you aren't in bed yet... So where's the Amy doing Alex's accent live stream :)
It's not really toothache. It's a wisdom tooth thing, where it grows the tiniest bit which irritates the gum and it all gets a little painful. It will be fine in a day or so.
um....over there *points and hides*
Ah rumbling I think it's called!
Ooh, I had no idea it had a name. Interesting.
Well now I have no idea... I just typed into google and the first result that came back was a blog I subscribe to... So maybe this is just a circular reference.
Morning all :D
Perhaps we shall call it that anyway.
Yes!
Morning Jon, how's it going?
Well I've only just woken up, so still in a bit of a dase! but good thanks. Yourself?
How long have we got until the practice session? Is it 10?
the thread already up :)
Yup. The thread is up this time. I checked.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/08/19/europe-schedule/#more-11091
hmm what else is on TV tonight.
absolutely nothing. Damn. Stuck with Valencia.
Well in case any of you are as mad as Amy...
...I am about to make the most boring live broadcast... In the world
or rather I am currently making...
hoorayyy!
the only person madder than me is the person who wrote the synopsis for qualifying tonight on my TV Guide, they call it "One of the most awaited Grand Prix events in years"
Maybe he wrote it before a certain somebody had a certain injury?
Giggles looks angry!
Good bed hair Mr A ;)
ah but it continues on: "Aussie Mark Webber continues to chase down Jenson Button, while Ferrari calls up their test driver Luca Badoer to fill in for an injured Massa."
I think that first bit is the key as to why its apparently anticipated in this country.
Concentrating not angry!
Thanks :)
Much better ;)
Hunter / Hunted etc
you look like my Sims when they write novels ;)
Note: I am not one of your sims! ;)
Good because they're probably all dead, I haven't played in months :D
In other news, Fleetwood Mac's one and only NZ tour date was announced today so the Australian announcement can't be far away. Rumours (see what I did there) have dates for Melbourne aa December 1 + 2. I'm so there.
So out of the rookies today what is going to be the finishing order in Quali do we think?
Including Tim.
I had BAD down as being the only one to make Q2 but I'd like to change that to 'all out in Q3'
Buemi
Renault man
Badoer
Tim
ooh ooh ooh whats in the mug!
BBC Sport's Andrew Benson in Valencia: "Ate in the same restaurant last night as Eddie Jordan, among whose companions were former Ferrari and McLaren F1 driver Stefan Johansson. When EJ and friends came over for a chat late on, Eddie was accosted by an enthusiastic Danish fan, who wanted his photo taken with him. EJ beckoned Johansson over, saying to the Dane: 'You'll want Stefan in it, too, I'm sure.' 'Oh, you were a racing driver, too?' said the man. Ouch.
I might go for:
TatoHead
Not Piquet
Not Seb
Not Massa
i think not massa will get faster in fp3, i hope so anyway
I wish I had some form of mugged beverage.
I think the feed just died... Ah well...
Back to life...
Back to the daily thread...
I just messaged my dad to ask if he is in Valencia.
Dad replies "no, I am not Michael Schumacher"
thank god for that.
Mine are in stasis because I still haven't got round to reinstalling The Sims 2 and can't until I know whether the copy needs to be on this computer or a replacement one.
My rookie prediction:
Grosjean (Q2 unless he crashes, possibly even Q3)
Buemi (possibly Q2, but most likely not)
Jaime
Badoer
If Badoer comes last, i am going to laugh SO hard
I think that's the most likely scenario though...
Hello daily thread
Hello. :D
while I wait for weights and for press conference to upload, I am trying to plan out my meals for the next week ahead of my grocery trip. Any suggestions of things I can cook for dinner?
do you eat heavy or light at night?
about 50/50 each way, depends how I feel when I get home from work.
a big piece of meat with potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, and red pepper, all generously seasoned with paprika and parsley (specially the meat), everything cooked slowly at a mid-temperature oven. you can also add some garlic inside the meat. that goes more to the 'heavy dinner' side... ;-)
sounds delicious though!
SCHUMACHER NECK INJURY EXPLAINED!!!
I heart the sniff!
it is, specially if the meat is tender and juicy after the cooking. better accompanied with long movie season to eat/let the food go down...
Just got this from F1 Race Charts:
I am considering buying a slow-cooker as my Christmas present to myself. Nothing tastier than slow cooked meat....
...I'm hungry now.
:D
I think he is only giving him a massage... ;-)
Slow cookers are great for curries and casseroles too!
Fajitas?
I may start living of beef stroganoff, it's a food I would marry if that was legal.
I didn't ever knew that thing existed...
do you use mainly electricity or natural gas for cooking?
electricity, there is no gas in my apartment :(
Electricity, which is ironic considering who I work for!
bad thing :-(
the few times I've been to France it was terrible for me to get used to cook with electricity. it's not the same, I had to change all my expectations of when to put the food, when to raise/lower the power, when to take out the food. I even managed to burn a pizza by turning off the oven and leaving it inside, as I usually do with gas to keep it warm. but the electrical oven stays at a really high temperature for a long time! :-(
my stove top is terrible too, it has two temperature - 'off' and 'boil/burn EVERYTHING'
:D
Mine has that problem too.
I really miss having gas on the hobs. But I cant stand Gas ovens, electric all the way!
it helps a lot down here that gas is something like 10 or 20 times cheaper per calorie than gas...
bah the drop.io hates me :(
'No-finn' on there?
:D
for some reason when i try upload videos on my fast connection they get stuck around 5%. Working on the3G, but will be another 20 minutes.
ah cool
I have a bad video of a big railway station i did during FP3 http://www.qik.com/dubaish
ooh its huge!
and the voice that announces which train is coming next sounds SO ANGRY
I spent 2 hours there last December at 5am when i forgot Sunday trains have a different timetable...
hehe, you should hear the MIND THE GAP lady :D
we don't have one of those and I am yet to hear of someone falling into the gap :D
most of our announcements start with "good morning/afternoon/evening passengers"
I will try and film something at Waterloo next time i am there, it has more platforms, but it is a terminus so it is less busy.
well, I have to leave now. I'll see if I can do some ski in a semi-closed mountain with an awful weather... see you
Hehe how polite. We get angry people telling us THE NEXT STATION IS WATERLOO THIS TRAIN TERMINATES HERE.
I kind of feel sad sometimes that I live so close to the city I can't get a train home, but then when I go somewhere that does require a train journey I remember that I hate them. There are always so many weirdos on public transport.
Sounds fun! film it?
good luck!
I return from packing. Felt like hours.
Oh, tell me about it. The Metro system is soooo annoying, I don't want to hear 'The next station is... Airport' It is so inconsistant is misses out half of the stations in the announcement.
ours are more "Good morning passengers, the next train to depart from platform one will be the 8.47 to Flinders Street, stopping all stations to Flinders Street, departing in seven minutes"
and then two minutes later you get "Good morning passengers. The 8.47 train to Flinders Street has been delayed, and will now arrive at 8.52. Connex apologises for the delay"
and then two minutes after that you get the one telling you its cancelled. Connex = fail.
lg me220 phone... I'm lucky enough to be able to take vga pictures :-(
thanks
They have these screens here on all the platform now which tell you what time the train should be there, what time it is expected and everywhere it stops. Its very helpful, the ticket prices are less so.
There used to be a company here called connex but they lost their franchise because they were so poor!
eheheh Connex have just lost the Melbourne contract for the same reason!
I dont think its , but the same company they were really really rubbish
Fail
I dont thin its the same company but they were....
ahh if you click on the Connex Group link it appears to be the same company!
They mostly got into trouble here because every summer they end up cancelling 1/3-1/2 of services because 'its too hot for our trains to run'.
This happens every year yet they never bothered to upgrade their stock so it could run at temperatures higher than 35 degrees which is a pretty average summer temperature around here!
I'm not sure the new people, who are a Hong Kong company, are going to do any better though. They can only go so far with the small amount of funding the government give them.
Ah evil company, i have seen thoese veolia signs around though... hmmm
The tracks here are now run by the governemnt which is good, the train companies just run their trains.
They haven't been too bad for me, but i was stuck on a train for 2 hours about 2Km away from my house in Manchester because it broke down and they wouldn't let me jump off and walk.
oh boo, press conference uploaded in such a way you can't watch it on-site.
Is Scott in Italy and his script around? :D
ohhh I see why. Didn't encode properly. Stupid computer. *tries again*
I am not sure if i should tell you the BBC have it up and geolocked or not!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8215945.stm
there is always those not in the UK who missed out too :D
hehe, i will wait for you version in an act of sidepodsolidarity
yes, my version comes complete with ONE LIVE branding in the corner.
oooh... I haven't seen that yet!
Signs of a hangover... i am looking at jobs in the congo...
If Mr + Mrs C are around, which I doubt, I'd like to request the deletion of the useless file I dropped :D What a waste of 63mb :D
Flav hasnt called Badoer as slow as a milepost yet....
He clearly knows **** about F1
gosh nothing interesting at all on the FIA site today. Not even a fine for BAD.
Hooray! Something new on the site!
The stewards investigated Vettel for his oil spillage
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/eur09_document_27.pdf
No penalty.
Man, next year it is going to be so good to be able to go to bed right after qualy. I'd still like to keep refuelling though :D
Got my hopes up there. they should at least have been fined. If it was McLaren i am sure they would have had a 3 race ban
In an attempt to not fall asleep I am now in the lounge with my giant fruit salad. Look how much I made!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img00030-jpg
I should have put something in that for scale, but that is the biggest bowl in our house and in there is half a pineapple, half a watermelon, two kiwifruit, two bananas, two punnets of strawberries, two mandarins and no grapes.
Epic... I never buy enough fruit to make anything like that... You are allowed to find out the weights tomorrow though ;)
never! Mr C has been pimping me on twitter, I have 11 new followers that I cannot let down!
Hehe, fair enough!
Have you kept a record of what time it has appeared after all the races?
I was just looking at the last three. Last time was really late, 3.22am. Before that, 2.21am, 1.56am, 1.03am (qualy was an hour earlier for that one though) 2.11am, 2.19am and I can't be bothered going back any further. So shouldn't be too far away, unless they're like Hungary again :(
I needs to blog... I like that i have obliged myself to do it, it saves me from needing inspiration :P
Reading the media kit for the Valencia race.
So far have managed to spell Malaysia wrong and think that Kubica started 10th in Monaco
What did they call it?
I have taken to reading Finnish F1 news. The stories are far more biased towards my interests :D
Something like Malasya
something not reported in English media. I am aware Google translate is not my friend.
Heikki Kovalainen drives the European GP older version McLaren. It is, however, the Finnish driver's own decision.
I would be able to take the same car parts than what Lewis had a car, but as the parts arrived here a little late, the factory has been in a couple weeks off, the plan was that Lewis may be the parts of a car on Friday and I am here today on Saturday.
As the car balance was yesterday, however, excellent, I decided not to use these new elements, so that I would not have lost confidence in the car, which I found yesterday.
The decision was good, because I could last until mutkaan to fight for pole position, and its loss not due to really the car parts, but the fact that I tried to drive it too low a rate of knots, Kovalainen commented.
Ahh trying to drive at too low a rate of knots has been many a drivers downfall!
Hehe, good find, I hadn't heard it was a voluntary decision
Finally! http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/press-conference-temp-1-mp4
Amy, I have a Polish article with the weights. Is there anything on the FIA site?
http://f1.sport.pl/Artykul.82+M5e3e3b372d6.0.html
article also says they had a KERS problem yesterday when they were trying a new bit so today have gone back to the old one and it worked fine.
nope
Thats been out a while.
It could be fake or they could have distributed the paper sheets with it on and the poles have a quick typer!
indeed, they go around the media centre well before they go up online. The press conference transcript is up now though! http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/eur09_conference_sat.pdf *devours more Heikki words*
they changed their url again!
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/eur09_document_30.pdf
Does this mean I win this round? :D
the polish aren't official :P
Oooh, for once it isn't Alonso who is on fumes.
No fair! They were correct! :P
heheh I see 5Live tweeted them half an hour ago as well. I lose this one!
Trulli is driving to the moon
Andy Stobart from bridgestone just tweeted
transverse; transverse; transverse; transverse; transverse
:?:
He has only gone and nicked Timo's bottomless fuel tank. Tut tut Jarno.
I am even more saddened by Heikki's mistake, to be faster with a heavier car would have been IN YO FACE LEWIS.
Better he got the bad luck out of the way now. Who knows, it might be his day tomorrow! :D
???
w00t! :D
According to my highly accurate predos, no he won't.
Lewis go BOOM :D I would also accept a Rubens win. I note this from the press conference:
As I said before, I wish next year’s rules were already applied because I would have been on pole without the fuel…
Q: But you’re always quick in Q2.
RB: Well, but that’s why I want to race next year because then I will get pole.
I hope he is around next year, just so I can see that happen :D
I can't wait to see your race predictions. I heart them.
Can't promise Belgium btw. Darn holidays.
nooooo!
How are you going to do the weights in New Zealand?
ooh. That weekend is Brazil as well so the hours will be crazy. It might be daylight by the time they come out!
Toasted cheese and horseradish sandwiches are Amazing!
Best invention of the last 24 hours if you ask me!
What time is the race on? that must be a mad time difference!
3am Melbourne time which makes it 5am NZ :D I will be back here for the race though, I get back at Sunday lunchtime.
Insanity! You wont know what is going on!
I have paid attention in the past, championship deciders do that to you :) Monday at work is always a struggle though.
Flight and a middle of the night F1 Race? You cant work after that!
ahh the flight isn't long, but I shall have a nap before I get up at 3, then try and sleep afterwards :D
Rather you than me!
and on that note, bedtime. night!
speaking of which, i must get some sleep - and you should too, Amy. ;)
g'night! :D
Hullo spcworld. :)
Night! i see your video has uploaded to the drop complete with snazzy 1 live logo :D
LO
You chuffed that Rubens is fuel-adjusted pole sitter?
Night Journeyer, Hello Lukeh and Jackie :D
Oh night Journeyer and Amy. Hi Nick
Nick .. have you an RSS feed for your new blog?
He may also be chuffed he comes out well in my predos.
You doing fuel-adjusting as well RG?
Its more, gut insticnt.
I haven't seen quali yet
Oops *runs* I'm sorry
S'alright :P I'm not one to get annoyed at stuff like that. I'm liking the sound of it already though :D
Qik app now has 3G support!
No need to jailbreak anymore for Mr Giggles
Looks like Amy's boy did a good job with that fuel!
He did, and with the 0.2 secs disadvantage with the longer chasis. Pity he lost it on the final two corners
I'll give it a test in a moment or two. But I think it's a only for upload on the 3g not the live streaming. Hard to tell really :)
Guys...
I'd like to know how many laps each driver did in Q3... any ideas where I can find out?...
no way?
i may now need an iphone. did you guys see the droppler thing i mentioned yesterday?
laps done during q1&2:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/qually-two-final-times-png
laps done during q3:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/qually-three-final-times-png
a bit of maths you see you right ;)
there is a screensho of the live timing screens at the end of q3 which tells you http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/qually-three-final-times-png
Yes, but you'll have to guess which P is between Q2 and Q3
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/eur09_qualifying_times.pdf
Also, any lap started after the chequered flag (the in-lap) isn't timed so you'll have to use your judgement as to whether their last lap was a flying lap or not
so, we went outside... untethered... and it was so exciting someone's had to take to her bed :)
Again, I think you need to allow for untimed in-laps after the chequered flag. Anyone think otherwise?
I don't think it works like that sadly.
ahh, fair enough.
has it changed today? they haven't tweeted or blogged anything?
Inside F1 up next on BBC News
Saw that, but we've talked about here before. You told me it wasn't any good. There's another alternative that loads to drop.io but think it's only for images
i did, that's true. and now i'm telling you they updated it so that it is good :)
in the past spc drop was to big and it couldn't cope. seems much better now. this one is only for images too sadly.
They just showed the indoor motorhomes
from last year?
is it only, or just on real telly?
*online
on now jake and ej.
they interviewed webber in front of brawn motorhome under the roof
there is no roof?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7459669.stm
cheers.
I think the motorhomes are backed up agaisnt the building which has an open front. It all looked a bit strange
As much as I think the drop.io boys should be supported, PixelPipe supports pics and vids to drop.io, Flickr, YouTube and more. Haven't used it yet but it is free
ooh, not heard of that. will have a look.
Badoer still looks like he belongs in Dire Straits
they're paying him money for nothing?
Just a thought, dunno if it has been mentioned.
With Williams trying to get out of the Toyota deal, that means no obligation to keep Nakajima right? So that opens up a (another?) seat there, so the possibility of Hulkenberg joining?
two free seats if rosberg also bails?
Thats why I said another in brackets
Pixelpipe
ah-ha. i figured hulk would take nico's chair alongside kaz.
what's happened on the engine front?
:)
They're paying him?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77897
they've paid him a fortune to be a test driver. presumably he's as bad a tester as he is a racer.
we only went outside for 4 hours!
;)
Perhaps he's a really good test driver - and that's all Ferrari are doing with his car?
Cosworth? They talk about financials a lot in there?
i like toyota's attitude in that situation too. respect.
Oh, the world is coming to an end or something as well.
i don't think frank believes in cossy. however, if it means he can afford to lose kaz, it might be tempting.
:D
I mentioned williams going to cosworth as i was witting my blog this afternoon with regards to KERS and KAZ. spooky.
It would be funny if they took both of BMW's drivers. I suspect Nico will stay on at Williams and who know next year they could be on a winning form.
Nick's already been at Williams hasn't he? How was relations then?
Alex, can you bring my sunnies with you on Thursday please
I have downloaded droppler (I did after you mentioned it the other day). But I can't see what it gives me over what I have now?
Ah yeah that'll work!
Frank has admitted they did not treat him very well. I genuinely think that Nick is on the shopping list if Nico left. Nick gave them their last Pole position.
you can upload pics and view them, without sending via email. so it works like the webpage.
i only have an itouch, but it looks like the update we were waiting for, no?
Does it require admin priviliges?
doesn't appear so.
By the way, iPod Touch refresh next month is strongly rumoured to have a camera
that's what i'm waiting for.
no new itouch = iphone for me (begrudgingly).
camera itouch = probably hold off on the iphone.
Plus, should be up to 64GB
did not know that.
Possible event date, Sep 9th with new iTunes version with Facebook support (oh why?)
Capacity is usually double that of the highest iPhone with two RAM chips
FB support?
Yeah, I don't know really
Can't say I care but there's screenshots around on TUAW & MacRumors
Baby panas on BBC news24
hehe. she's sleeping (thankfully).
It was Panda-monium! there were loads of them
fyi, grandprixdiary now on twitter: http://twitter.com/GrandPrixDiary
oh my.
Jackie asked me a question about where my RSS feed was on my blog... does anyone know where wordpress hides it?
Put /feed at the end of your blog url
Are you on firefox? You can access it in the adress bar with the little orange square thing
Ah cheers, weird they dont have a button for it!
Ahem, awesome bar ;)
Firefox? Its not 2003 ya know ;)
Oops, how dare I forget the awesomeness
:P
Fine!! I'll sit here in 2003 with my [insert references to 2003 events I can't think of right now]!!
and comments feed is /comments/feed/

holiday 2009?
"International Year of Freshwater."
wha?
 at "International Year of Freshwater."
Ah thank you .. have added to reader
Eyedrops going down your throat are horrible
We seems we can now make up years. I therefore declare 2009 "International Year of My Pizza Should Be Here Soon"
It seems, even. Perhaps it should be the year of sentence fail.
Thanks for pointing it out, i have added it to the about page :D
2009 is teh international year of natural fibre...
:D
say it in a west accent and its fine :D
Does this mean i posted a link using the link button and it didnt kill SPC??
:D
Didn't realise The Factory was still on. Tonight at 22:30, British Eurosport
fact :)
With the global economic crisis or whatever, we should sponsor each year instead.

isn't that over already?
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey
I'm watching Vicar of Dibley and Dawn French just referred to Letitia as Mrs C.
Mind = blown
I don't keep up with the news, unless its local, im weird like that.
me neither. seems like it's been going on a long time though.
I wish
Payrise would be nice this decade
you'd only spend it on alikihol ;)
ahaha, there someone on facebook who took a "i can guess your age" quiz...
Guess what the question it asked was?.....
"When were you born?"
EPIC fail
Or Sodepod International Meet-ups
I'm awake!
she lives!
Bonjour
Are you on Amy-time now? ;)
Coulda slept longer but I know you were all missing me.
Dawn French mentions Mrs C and you suddenly reappear?
I am suspicious.
:P
How true
I was?.....oh I mean, of course we were.
Hello all.
Hello Joe
*waves*
Not even half way through my second 24hr shift, losing my mind....Oh, Mr. C! And a good day to you Sir!
Salut.
Hi Joe.
Eeek!
Though I am looking forward to the live commenting for Franck's 2009 debut in Indycar
Oh yeah
Is there quali today?
You missed panda's!
Are you allowed to sleep and watch f1?
Yes, I think around 1830 East coast. The most recent FP session saw Franck 8th fastest.
Yup: http://www.indycar.com/schedule/pdf/2009_infineon_schedule.pdf
Where?
Yes, I'll be getting off at 0800 tommorrow, right when the lights go off for the race. I'll have to ignore the race till later in the day because I have to help my brother move. The only race I'll see live tommorrow will likely be IRL
It was good to see Macca at the front, but I wonder why they were running so light. With some cars more than 700 kg can we assume they are one stopping?
Ooooh, Mario was 10th.
Was this mentioned today?
Toyota unlikely to retain Trulli
They were on BBC news. they had tiny ones which are about a month old , then a shot with about 12 of them in it, followed by more up tress
And was the item that they are coming to this country and I can have one?
If not, we'll kidnap one for you.
Sorry. Just that they were a month old and a chance to show lots of pandas :P
Ah well, that's acceptable too, I suppose :)
It is the same Connex. I used to have to endure their uselessness on a daily basis until they lost their franchise. It was taken over by the government and run as South Eastern trains, which was a massive improvement. Then the government insisted on re-franchising to another private company.
I remember when our line here was run by the government, i think it was called network south east. We waited for 20 mins to get a train, and then some old man came walking down the platform saying they arent running that train today, when we asked why he said, its just how the company worked :(
That is my earliest memory of going on a train, its surprising i ever got on another!
That's fairly normal regardless of the ownership of the service. My favourite thing was when they had to reboot the train, literally turning it off and back on again.
You don't seem to have too much joy with trains ;)
We certainly have an interesting relationship!
Things you don't expect to hear as Mr C blogs: "Diaphragm has a g in it??"
:)
''The mind boggles as to what he is blogging :D
Jake wants people to tweet him ideas for his JakeBlog
Get Legard out! :)
Let's not go there
That would be quite an interesting blog entry!
Am back :) we have people over but i have escaped! how are we all?
I think I have a sunburnt nose. This is terrible. I don't get sunburn.
Good. How did you escape? Dig a tunnel? Scale the wall?
Door? I'm in 'the cave' at the moment (we actually call it that!)
Oh. Door is not quite as exciting as I'd hoped :)
Thats anti-climatic. Wheres the motorbike over the house?
Outside will do that to you. we keep telling you it's not safe.....
4 doors?
Must share this.
http://failblog.org/2009/08/22/driving-fail-5/
It should really be called Epic Driving fail.
umm.....in your imagination?
wow.
Hah!
Another Luca Badoer hate, I mean a love post?
http://checkpoint10.blogspot.com/2009/08/luca-is-not-that-slow.html
The facebook one is pretty funny too, I won't link to it though.
Does anyone know (roughly) how long it would take to swim 200 metres?
8 mins if you are medium paced
I'm thinking about my time, 160 second-ish.
Unsure about your speed
Sorry, I'm waaaaaaay off here.
Thats like 3 minutes?
Freestyle Record is 1'42" (according to Wikipedia)
Ahahaha I just saw the automatic doors fail on that fail blog website :D:D:D
Brilliant!! Poor guy... *giggles evily*
mmmm....im not that good....
Interesting, if a bit link-heavy, post from the
F1 MoleAndrew Benson that nicely rounds up all the KERS goings on."But when it came to the vote on Kers not all the hands went up. You might expect the one not to agree would have been McLaren - they, after all, are the ones who appear to have most to gain. But instead it was Williams, who have their own system under development, although they are not close to being able to race it yet. (Force India abstained, for the record)."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2009/08/costs_and_politics_to_decide_t.html
I did not put the del tag on enough of that sentence, so from now on he will have to be called the Andrew Benson.
Who?
BBC F1 writer
I know. I was being facetious.
Sorry :)
Am a bit slow today
How's the contact with Mr Saward these days?
Andy have you passed the 'treacle stage' with your little nipper yet? ;)
Is that a name search. Thing? :)
More interesting than the KERS is that Williams did not approve larger brakes - this suggests that they are very serious in their quest to use KERS next which obviously has a role in the braking and transfer of the energy.
nooo
oops, that full stop wasn't meant in the middle of hat sentence.
I think cognitive fatigue and iPhone typing do not mix well
There is contact. Timing is tricky, though.
OK, good luck then
May I make a complaint, yes thats right, a complaint.
Whenever I type your number, the TRACK bit at the end always confuggles me, and I keep assuring myself its the wrong number because of it, so maybe use the digits a bit more.
Point 2, maybe advertise it a bit more, tis a killer to find.
I kinda want KERS to stay next year. Though it needs to have more energy, especially with the increased weight of fuel
Both excellent points.
1. We do that already. Very rarely say TRACK these days.
2. It's part of the redesign that is coming
soonslowly.Oh yes, we're on to mustard now.
Can I confirm it is 01212887225 yes?
But hhat makes it easier to remember. Is there not a 'contact us' is bit on the home page?
mmm mmm mmmmm, lovely
Yup.
Hehe.
Ja
Nothing obvious on the current one, no.
Well, I'm confused
By the way, if you get like three minutes of nothing, its the psp's fault.
Phew, I shouldnt have played the wii after eating a pizza
Without going into too much detail...
When a baby is born there is a short period when the parents (especially if they are first time parents) may want to take their baby back....
We're talking about emissons.
This is true, although I wouldn't call18 years a short period.
If you kid has an exhaust then you have issues...
I got it
:D
RG, proving that the PSP is just as good as one of those iPhonethingies.
#TheFifthDriver: http://twitpic.com/ewb5w - Ever seen a Formula 1 engine go through a second-storey window?!?!?
Except the games are cheaper on an iPhone :p
Fifth Driver just called Kovi "the heikster"
.....
The games are better though ;)
You mean like Frenzic and Peggle?
How's your non-wifi reception? ;)
Never heard of them?
Aww, theres a sweet message I should pass on really. Lou just told me that she really missed having live commentd whilst watching the qualifying on holiday today :P
I'll tell you in October.
Seriously? You're missing out.
Is the mew one getting 3G?
http://twitpic.com/ewcji
Ohhh mmyy goood lewis to ferrari
;)
Peggle is great, it's playable online
Don't do it. Peggle is just too addictive for human consumption!
He he, not for a long time I'd say
built in wi-fi.
I thought it had wifi
How are you making calls?
Here's a few more.
http://osxreality.com/2008/10/01/16-reasons-why-the-iphone-and-ipod-touch-are-better-than-a-sony-psp/
Also - Secret of Monkey Island, Super Monkey Ball to name but 2
Pocket God is fab
Secret of Monkey Island
This is why I support iphone/ipod touch games
;)
Skype. You can connect to a wireless internet thinggummy
Bassano wanted to know how you'd get online without any wi-fi.
Most of them will be wiped out with the PSP Go
Thats way out of date, PSP didnt even have PS store games back then let alone the new micro games
Which comes out in October? You know there's an Apple special event scheduled for the week of the 7th September don't you?
9th?? (hello all)
Ooh games console?
Yes. It's the day after the current student iPod offer ends as well.
09/09/09
Hey Jeremy
No, I didn't.
I'll be honest, I have the PSP to play games on. Its better to play games on a PSP. Any additional features I find is a nice bonus.
My lucky number is nine!
iPod Refresh and probably public announcement/launch of new OS Snow Leopard
But it will be the tenth here by then :(
The Factory has just begun on Eurosport
Right anyway, gonna go now, hopefully you got my voicemail for the Parade Lap Mr and Mrs C. Enjoy Valencia and see you from the otherside.
Lotsa love.
Bore-ring
Night Mr RG!!!
See ya roland!
The call him The Heikster?
Apparently you arent allowed surnames at Williams?
Laser ride height measurement via telemetry. Fancy that
Not exactly a new thing, was used for active suspension.
F1 appears complicated. Kaz picks the wrong gear and bam everyone knows.
Rob must look at BAD's data and just *facepalm*
Aye
Definitely :)
I guess so, just never thought of it
James Allen reckons it was LDM who put Badoer in the seat, not Domenicalli
Stefano probably didn't want the blame :)
Evening all. Sorry I pegged it off so quickly after quali without any warning! My cousin and her three young children arrived. I had to run and greet them before they smashed anything.....
Hey Alison
remember what steven said...
hey alison ;)
:)
Errrrm.... no? Was it mean? :(
haha. no, not at all.
My text disappeared
Steven was saying how much of a bad influence by keeping us up till the wee hours
sounds like i missed out on a party. i'm never sleeping again.
I'm sure Christine'll be thrilled about that....
Makes no odds to me :)
That'd be Amy's fault
btw, steven went away during qualifying... never to return.
i fear the outside has got him.
Didnt realise the indy quali was on now
Which one's Franck? :)
We really do need to put a stop to his 'outside' business
The camerawork is terrible!!
The French one
something fire systems i think. havent seen him yet
Its a free webcast though, not tv coverage!
I fear it's contagious :(
:D
They dont do the timing on the start finish line?
Madness
Whats that on the front of his car? is it a gun?
Have found live timing too.
http://scoring.indycar.com/flash/
Frank is 10th I have no idea how far behind he isas it is based on average speed which seems silly
Should say thanks to @FuriousWedge on Twitter. Got all the knowledge.
This helps! A lot!
I like this, you can move the columns around ;)
Franck 9th now.
Franck's better than Danica. Na na na na na nah.
8th!
I fancy a bath
Just saying
So what you are saying is your favourite driver is better than a girl?
Interesting.
Are you going to have one?
Yes.
And he should have her seat.
Franck didn't get through to the final round. Boo. Still better than Danica though. Yay.
More to the point, will you be live commenting from the bath?
It's not just pole, it's a Peak Performance Pole Award.
IRL has a happy place?
#irlhappyplace
"It's not just Q3, its the Bridgestone Fast 6, it's not just pole, its a peak performance pole award. This isn't just racing, this is IRL"
And let's not forget that it's the Firestone Fast Six going for it.
:D
Just finished dinner and catching up with Indycar qualiy. They seem to have a shootout, but I still don't understand it. Trying to figure out how Frank has done
:P:P
Franck starts 8th.
It seems like F1 shootout qualifying. Top six go through to go for pole.
"It cant be underscored the importance of brakes"
this is leggard country
He said: "Drivers don't just forget to drive overnight."
Mr C said: "Badoer did."
Harsh.
"You're going to need them [brakes] or you're going to be slow!"
REALLY!?!
Yes, it's running now
No, I'll be busy reading & soaking
Nah, he took 11 years to forget
That's what I said :)
Good. Looking forward to live commenting tommorrow
We should have a contest tomorrow for what lap will BAD be lapped on?
Lap 1?
Evening all!
:P Harsh!
Hey Alex
that's not fair, what if he's getting held up?
They just did a mega fast zoom out. I think that needs to be paired with a megablastic swoosh
#Bottleboatupdate
It's done! (pretty much) hopefully it's gonna be sailing this week
looks like this....but it has bottles in, and netting on the hulls....
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/29-jpg-2
Hello! You missed some Franckage.
Him getting that seat was already daylight robbery.
Oh, you mean...
Oh no!
Who was I supposed to be following again? It was somebody convoluted.
"A sticker set of blacks... a scuff set of reds."
Can anyone translate?
:)
:
:D
a new set of hard tyres, a used set of soft tyres
One of the tracks has a hill start (which one is that?) I believe, and I don't want to be mean that if Badoer started on that track he would stall and roll backwards.
The prosecution submits Exhibit A
The prosecution Rests
Is it Spa?
will he exit his garage in the right direction?
It might well be.
:)
It's Brazil....
Perfect. Ta :)
I am back. The outside had stopped leaking. I was confused.
the red stripe on the sidewall is the same as the white stripe
Makes Badoer look utterly useless
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/badoer-s-the-scream-jpg
Little did we know yesterday how appropriate that would be
“But when it came to the vote on Kers not all the hands went up. You might expect the one not to agree would have been McLaren – they, after all, are the ones who appear to have most to gain. But instead it was Williams, who have their own system under development, although they are not close to being able to race it yet. (Force India abstained, for the record).” {Comment #701}
That's interesting. Not so much because Williams blocked the KERS ban, but that Force India abstained while McLaren didn't...
I will stick on his side...kinda....
To be perfectly honest, he hasn't driven a car properly for ages and he hasnt raced for ages either. Tim got going so quick because he's been racing WSR which is only 7-10 seconds slower a lap, and not-piquet has been doing GP2....
Force India want back in FOTA, Williams don't care?
He goes off once and they say his session si over? he just ran wide, give him another lap and he'll be fine
But he's got dirt on all four of his tyres!! Shock horror!
Sticker tyres are tyres that still have the stickers on them. F1 tyres don't have stickers put on them. Scuffed means they have run a few laps. Sometimes tyres that have run a few laps and been allowed to cool down give beeter long run performance.
IRL have red instead of green
I think I've found the real story...
That's not a finger... THAT'S A GUN!!!!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/lucamichael-jpg
noooooooooooooo
;)
But why wouldn't Ferrari go and get one of those people?
oh no, im not saying they should have, i think they should have gone with gene minimum. but im just saying thats why he's so slow
Why he's slow is not the issue. Why he's there, is
Frank will allow himself to be negotiated back into FOTA when they make him an afvantageous offer
They are amazing that Dario can get pole even though he went off a lap earlier... hm
Well it's clear... Now we have the photographic evidence of Luca holding up Schumacher at gun point.
There's no other explanation.
Gets pole in dramatic fashion!!
If Gene cant do it then surely it is logical to go with Badoer?
Who said he cant?
It's not logical - they didn't even go with him last time.
Logic
do tell
This is becoming like an episode of Star Trek :)
It was kinda last miniute though, they didnt really have time to get things sorted
Just found out Williams is trying to get out of its Toyota contract for next season. That is an unexpected development
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77897
It is logical that Gene should have had the drive as he has the more recent racing experience.
Therefore it is Logical to assume if this course of action has not been taken there is an obsitcle to it happening.
Therefore it is logical to assume Gene cant do it for some reason
It's never logical to go with someone that slow. Ferrari have all his data so it can't have come as a surprise that he is so bad.
the ferrari situation isn't luca's fault. he's doing his best.
it's the fault of the man who led ferrari up the garden path, pretending he could drive with a broken neck. he screwed his team over for his own selfish reasons.
I do actually think you're right. He's with another team I think.
I thought it was after the BBC KERS article?
You are assuming that logic is a consideration at Ferrari
im not sure he knew, i think you'd have done the same given the opportunity in teh same circumstances. he thought he could, doctors said he couldnt
Right I better go to bed and hopefully dream up some shownotes for the parade lap. Set your alarms people :)
Rumoured to be Campos next year
G'night Alex
Night alex
goodnight
Night
Even if Gene has signed with another team I would still put him in the car rather than have the embarassment of having him qualify 1.5 seconds behind the next slowest car on the grid. Alguersuari was instantly better as was Grosjean who is nothing special
Night Alex
I have another theory that they wanted to give them both a go, its better to put Badoer in first because Gee would look good.
Raikonen also looks awesome at the moment :P
didn't ted say the guy was screwed after the initial 2007 run? that was a whole week before he pulled out.
he would have some problems with his neck anyway because he hadnt been in an f1 car for ages, he had to wait to see if the bit in his neck was damaged too badly
It’s Brazil…. {Comment #858}
That's OK. The back half of the grid slopes down, while the front half of the grid slopes up. Therefore if Luca is still in the Ferrari by then (I hope it's Felipe instead), he should be helped rather than hindered by the arrangement should he stall. Though to be honest I don't think Luca is as bad as all that.
What are the most cost effective monitors whch are good for your eyes?
