Monday has returned and we're at the start of a brand new week. Mr C wasn't feeling too well yesterday, so we decided not to do an F1 Debrief show - there wasn't an enormous amount of news to cover anyways. I blame the over-excitement of the Crashed Ice thing, but he suggests otherwise. Nevertheless, here are some of the things we've been talking about this weekend:
- Yesterday we started our mission to review all the driver and team websites for the 2010 season, with the first six completed. Mr C and I both review the sites, with his focus more on the technical side of things, including mobile devices and load times, whilst I just gush about whether they have Twitter accounts and photos on the site. We'll be posting these throughout the week so let us know your thoughts on the sites we have reviewed.
- Giggles Radio has reached the letter H already, and the replay for Sunday's night show is up on the site with the playlist available as well. It's always worth a listen if you have time, as the mixture of great music and Giggles rather amusing links between the songs makes the hours just fly by.
- Finally, we're keen to be more positive about F1 after the Bahrain weekend, and as Australia is coming up, we looked at ten reasons why F1 in Aus won't suck. I hope you can add to our list of reasons in the comments, it's almost like the F1 Happy Place but for a specific race instead.
That should do it for now. I hope your Monday is going okay, and as always, I will see you in the comments.
Monday Monday. *do do do do*
How did that happen?
Well....every 24 hours, (an hour is 60 minutes), theres a new thing, called a day, and after sunday comes monday.
So today its monday.
You'd think we'd get good at estimating the approach of midnight but it never happens
i know exactly when midnight is, because my internet dies for 2 minutes at 11.59pm every day!
I thought it was about 10 o'clock
Sorry to just barge on in here with a question - but could someone please point me to the customised itunes subscription page? The one where Mrs. C. lays out which 'feeds' have which podcast in them? It might even be RSS feeds, not itunes subs.
Thank you very much.
I think you mean show selector
Beat me to it
That's the page
Thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for. And thanks Bassano.
So paul will you make it in time for the behind the scenes after your 647km drive?
Is 4500 words on what F1 should be like too long for a guest post?
Thats like 10 pages?
Just over 6
oh of course, sorry, all my work has to be double spaced.
I really hope so. The plan is to get there around 3:30, 4pm which should be OK.
Sounds like a series to me.
Unforunately it won't work like that. Everything is linked to everything else and I wouldn't be able to answer comments on one part without pointing at other parts. I knew it wa going to be long but not that long and while I could very easily make it a lot longer there is not a lot I can do to make it any shorter
You will have to choose your timing then. Sometime when there is a decent break between races. Sounds like something which will provoke a lot of debate.
Sounds good. You might even beat me there. I am at work til 4 but might ask my boss if i can leave at 330 instead and have a shorter lunch. Takes about 35-40 min to get there from here so i wont miss too much, after going last year i can zip through most of it pretty quickly
My plan had been to finish it for Thursday so that it would have been up this weekend so that it would provoke some discussion and maybe eliminate some of the negativity people have for the new season before Melbourne but it just took too long to write
Any tips on what to see? I don't want to be just wandering around.
You dont really get a chance to wander, they have a path set up that you follow along to the v8 paddock then down the pit lane. People tend to mingle there a bit but most teams have screens up. After that everyone heads over to where they have a stage set up for interviews. They start quite a bit later but i sat down quite early to guarantee a good spot.
OK, well I hope I make it.
I hope you do too. Last year it was my brother's (also named paul ooh spooky) first experience of f1 and he really enjoyed the chance to get a bit closer. The safety cars were his favourite i think, judging by how many pictures he took
Very spooky. I love the SLS safety car.
For some very odd reason I've just woken up :(
for some very odd reason I'm still awake :(
Oh dear. Bad times. I'm tempted to put the radio on and see if it helps me sleep. I'm turning into a man....
hehe. I'm reinstalling Linux on my netbook.
I get the feeling our wee group at Spa is going to have the worst sleeping patterns ever.
I can never sleep during the first two nights in a new place. It will be fun!
Weather in Melbourne this weekend. Early forecasts suggest a cloudy day Friday. Ealry local showers Saturday and possibility of afternoon showers Sunday. Spicy.
and for those at the track the predicted highs for the four days are 29, 29, 26, 28. When I looked yesterday they were saying 31 for Saturday so it could be a hot one.
I'm glad I don't have that problem or I would be dead by the end of the month, I only have 3 nights in each place!
that looks like nice warm weekend ahead :-)
Morning you lot :)
I think it's probably at least a two-parter, depending on context.
If you have too much info contained in it, people will complain that it is too long...
if its not 30, it's cold. #amysweathermotto
Thank you! At last, someone else agrees with me :)
I wish I had just taken the chance that everything would work out ok and bought tickets months in advance so I could get GP Advantage membership. Sooo many benefits
Are you going though?
I am! Webber stand for all four days.
Amy has promised to look after me and Paul
30??? Are you mad?! I'd boil alive in that, forget cold...
I still haven't booked that table. I'm failing in my duty. I shall call them tomorrow.
OK, whatever, hot or cold, for me the important part is the word "nice". What we have here today is definitely not nice ... the API (air pollution index) is normal when the reading are around 20, it is high when it read over 50. when it gets to 100, people with some respiratory of heart problems are advised to stay home. The maximum the machines can read over here is 500. The readings today are 495 ...
ebay is you friend for Advantage tickets
Have you never been to the Mediterranean in the summer then?
Have you seen how hot Melbourne can get? 30 is nice.
When my father-in-law went on a business trip to China he remarked how much pollution was on his face when he shaved... sounds gross!
we have only had one 40+ day since those bushfires last february, it's been much more mild this summer.
the reason is said to be some nasty sand storm somewhere 2000 km north of here but I can't say I am convinced. what I can say I never seen anything this bad ever (well I can't see anything anyway other than stinky haze)
Erm I live in the uk for a reason ;)
I've been abroad at the height of summer, never further south than northern Italy though. It has made me really sick in the past. I had to go to hospital once
well, in the Mainland China this is normal, seeing blue skies is not normal. but here we are definitely not used this sort of mess
I only started book my other holiday accommodation today. I forgot about Easter. Ooops.
*no where to stay*
Too rich for my blood now that I've plonked down for Mr Webber seats. Plus, the seller is from Japan! What if he doesn't show? Money back is one thing, missing the whole show is another.
Oh. I remember there were lots last year.
Mr Webber was in Queenbeyan today, but nobody told me
Oh yes. Now I understand you booking months in advance
by the way, friend of mine canceled the Melbourne trip in the very last minute, so as of today I have one spare Brabham stand ticket. anybody knowing anybody who might need it ?
I booked my trip back to the uk 3 weeks in advance (before BA led price inflation)
It feels very weird to be so prepared
sometimes that can all go horribly wrong as well because it gives them more time to lose your booking
I'm sorry Nicholas but 3 weeks is not all that far in advance :P
Please don't mess me around F1 Travel. You don't want to see me angry :P
3 weeks would have me panicking :D
I once drove to the Gold Coast with a mate and we didn't book anything. We just rocked up at hotels around 10pm and asked if they had any room. They always did! We even negotiated cheaper prices every single night.
In other news, I am going to walk The Tan tomorrow, now that I know where it is ;)
what is that ? spotted that Tan on Twitter several times without having a clue
turns out its a running track around the botanical gardens and in the two years I've lived here I've never set foot in the gardens so what better time to start than when the city is full of F1 folk running around it :D
I didn't plan anything last summer at all. It can be quite fun. I was carrying camping equipment though so really wasn't going to be properly stuck. People can always make room for a tent really...
and where are the botanical gardens in relation to Albert Park and St Kilda ?
very close, see?
Nick I'm sure I heard the words "I'm never going to be so disorganised ever again..." a few days ago.
On the next aside with Joe you must get him to talk more about Epsilon Euskadi: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/epsilon-aims-for-f1/
How on earth did these guys not be chosen over USF1? That is really impressive
Boy's (man) brains don't work the same way as Girl's (woman) brains.
Speaking of super-organised, I just registered my interest for 2012 tickets :D
oh, now I remember
My goodness, my lecturer is seriously highly charged today.
they were honest about not having any funds confirmed without having the entry ...
is it the one that sounds like Heikki?
ahh, the FIA going for lies rather than honesty. Of course
No, this one just goes off on tangents on literally every sentence (even our assignment stuff has flash Gordon references). I'm not taught by heikkiman anymore :(
It does sound like something i would say!
Incredible isn't it?
but frankly, this Epsilon is nothing new, the same Joe wrote similar stuff about them last year, before the Campos Manor USF1 trio got selected. I think he considered them and Prodrive as the fittest candidates. Unfortunately not fit enough for FIA that time. The thing is they would need to do something about that funding. Among other things FIA requires the candidates to show them the money. And if Epsilon again goes in with that egg chicken scenario the resull may be the same as in 2009 ...
And yet Campos and USF1 failed for that reason entirely, we are led to believe.
If Epsilon plan to use a Cosworth engine this time then they should get in...
I've planned half my trip now can't work out how to get home. I'm not used to having time off.
easter trip? where are you going?
melbourne international comedy festival roadshow on Channel 10 right now
ooh thanks. *turns on tv*
Yes I forgot all about easter. I'm doing the great ocean road, then ending up in SA. From there it's a bit of a mystery
You know you want to yawn... it will make him happy
Message for Bassano - if you still have a seat in your car I would love to travel with you guys. Can we arrange a pickup somewhere near Gatwick airport if possible?
Zoe's lecturer today used an I Love Lucy clip, and one of the asian girls in her group (named 'me') loved it but had never seen it before. OMG!
gosh, Timo's photo shows me it's a lot less dark on the other side of the city ;)
I am way too amused by this puppet.
I thought there would be at least one Aussie here watching the comedy gala, but my guess failed :(
Zoe doesn't like puppets so i skipped that bit. I thought I heard a bit of a Mrs Doubtfire voice
I saw that woman last year with a monkey and she wasn't very funny but the old lady was sooo funny.
I told you it was on! :)
and then you disappeared!
Somebody decided that i wasn't watching properly despite her having a history of doing the same :)
I hate that the Gala makes me think I should go check out lots of these people because then I never do and I regret missing the comedy festival :D
last year I went to Steve Coogan though and I must say, seeing Alan Partridge (a ha) in person fulfilled a dream I wasn't totally aware I had.
My grandmothers maiden name was Byrne. Why aren't I as funny as this guy?
Can you design F1 cars instead? ;)
My grandmothers maiden name was Williams. Why aren't I Claire?
Better than Peter Windsor :P
we could start " what's Amy commenting now"
I wonder if my parents would want to go to the comedy festival. My guess is no, but I really want to go now. I dragged my brother along last year, surely I can try again this year? :D
Fiery red for 2010! :D
Race edit and onboard (from poleman Vettel) are up.
Deffo! Ridgy didge!
I just really want to see the old lady puppet :( Her show finishes before my parents arrive :(
Sledging Shakespearian style!
Nicholas? Hahaha! Only Alison can get away with that. :D
just having a squidgeree-didge!
was that british guy wearing jeggings earlier?
I have no idea which guy you mean :D
Was on very early. White t-shirt with the union jack on it. very strange pants. looked like crappy jeans but was possibly jeans leggings?
ahh I missed him, I only saw his top half while he was plugging Oxfam. He probably was though, he looks the type :D
These pyjama men make good women
they are not amusing me :(
zoe agrees. the women on the train skit was mildy amusing. except for the bit where one of them said they were bored and I answered that, out lod, with 'get an iphone then'. I'm sick aren't I? :P
needs more Heikki.
i didnt like this woman last time, but she's better this year
I don't want to alarm Christine but Lucas was out on the Tan today as well. Can I wag work tomorrow and just sit there all day?
should I bring my running shoes?
I have to go in tomorrow and finish that job application I stared at for 9 hours today :( Plus it's my last full day of the week because I got permission to leave early on Wednesday :D
I doubt anyone will be out and about once the actual race weekend gets underway, but you could give it a go!
James Hunt would not have approved of this type of preparation
Lucas also followed up with (what google translates to) "Also never seen such a beautiful woman in a park along in life!"
James Hunt would approve of that, I'm sure.
ah yes. Maybe I should try the Tan while I'm there :-)
Nicholas' mum wins over Alison. I wonder what the future holds in that battle? :P
I just realised I will be at the autograph stage from 11ish until 6pm. Volunteers to bring me food much appreciated :D
I'm not a fan of Will Anderson's haircut. Who's with me?
"I'm Amy's PA, I HAVE to bring her food. You have to let me in!"
when I was in the line for about 3 hours in 2008 it was 40 degrees and I was about the only person who didn't have someone bringing them water and iceblocks. I am glad I did not die!
So are we!
woohoo! This year it doesn't matter if I am alone in a line for 7 hours, I will have twitter and comments (and hopefully other SPC folk) to keep me entertained (this means no one in Europe is allowed to sleep)
i don't think i'm allowed to comment on the plane and Paul will be driving
this is Thursday ;)
I'll be there late. Perhaps I should bring chocolate
in that case I will be there early.
oh. i need edumacating during breakfast
heheh. I think I shall take my Finnish flag along on Friday, get a squiggle from Mr Kovalainen on it.
and by Friday I mean Thursday.
I feel this is worth repeating
when you first said that I was watching an ad and was confused, but now I agree.
Right, I'm off to bed. I bet I dream of driving
I bet you do too! Good night :)
In researching this week's Tweets of the Week, I had to wade through a million complaints about various airlines, flights, travel arrangements to Australia. Fun times.
thank you! we shall work on the Lady GaGa stuff later :P
Look for me - I'll be the one in the Ferrari 458
This is one of the weeks it actually helps being on the far side of the world.
I'd best sleep as well. Have fun!
Mark Webber was in Queanbeyan/Canberra this week and turned up at his old stomping ground the kart track on Friday out near Queanbeyan where my boss' two sons spent three hours hanging out with him. I was sooo jealous. And tonight he was at the Raiders vs Broncos rugby league game here in Canberra which I attended. So was the PM but then he's here a lot anyway. Great having Mark about for this big week.
I've heard nothing but good things from people in Canberra about him signing hundreds of autographs and being super friendly :)
Seems like a nice chap indeed.
Gotta say Amy, I am now regretting not going to the race after seeing all you guys saying you are going. Still, I have taken Friday off to watch practice.
there is always next year!
True. Hope you have a belter!
For F1Wolf: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8579495.stm
yes, that looks like my view few hours ago :-) now the darkness covers the mess :-)
So I saw a video of a car being pushed sideways by a lorry on the motorway on YouTube the other day, but I dismissed it as a fake (it looks impossible): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_yorkshire/8579523.stm
Apparently it really happened! Amazing stuff, I can't believe the woman survived!
how did the lorry driver manage not to notice ...
Because if she pulled in too soon and clipped the corner, it is entirely possible that she was in his blind spot, right?
yes, that I understand, but there sure was some impact, also the car sure does not feel the same when pushing another car ...
I know. That's the scary part innit. The car must have been making a fair bit of noise too...
So, Friday I am going to a Poker night - could well end up not sleeping much before Qually ;)
You would hope that youd suddenly realise that you'd a) considerably slowed and b) the gear you were pulling was struggling
You could well under those circumstances think there was a problem with your engine and accelerate harder though. It would never pop into my head that I could be dragging something along if my car started to struggle.
If it was dragging then maybe, but it's pushing it along. It's just below his cab.
from this article:
Wednesday: Webber will allow other F1 stars to take the limelight. Massive surge in ticket sales expected as the media flocks to see Nico Hulkenberg in a go-kart, Sebastien Vettel learn to throw a boomerang (I repeat, I am not making this up), Vitantonio Liuizzi eat Italian food and a bunch of others playing poker with Joe Hachem.
Am I odd in that I really want to see ALL of those things? :D
I heart the Australian GP
The only way to start the season!
I don't heart that these opportunities are really only for the media and people like me can't find them :(
I did find this though: "Word has it plenty of the drivers are dead keen, ice-cool poker players and Crown Casino's formula one driver poker tournament on Thursday, March 25, will see who's the real ace. If you're on the poker floor that night, keep an eye out for some of the drivers pitched against Aussie champ Joe Hachem"
I wonder how long I can lurk the poker room before being asked to leave?
There is apparently also an event at the Tag Heuer boutique on Wednesday night. I wish I had more exact timings for these things so I can be a super stalker :D
F1 + Poker = WOOOOOOOW. Will that be on TV? :D
doubt it, it doesn't appear to be an "official" thing, its not listed anywhere on any website!
Aww boo. :( Would be cool if they did, though - even as a fundraiser for charity.
they should have filmed Nico in there at 8 this morning! Far too early for gambling ;)
If the F1 folk are anything like the tennis players, you'll always find at least one in the casino at night. Stalkers paradise.
If the buy-in is affordable, go play against them! ;)
It's got to be, Petrov is paying for his drive, he dosent get any money back ;)
everyone plays texas hold'em these days and I have noooo idea how that works. I can only play bog standard normal poker, and I'm rubbish at it :D I also retired from gambling with Barrichello winning me all that cash last year. Gambling scares me, I am far too rational for it!
Texas hold 'em is practically standard poker now. What is standard poker for you - the one where you're dealt five cards and you can swap any given number once?
Ahhh, that. Indeed. :)
I have never even seen this played!
I am not a poker fan though, i can just about tolerate blacjack but poker is wayyy to slow
poker is only slow when nothing's happening, which is rare - especially when it's among friends and people tend to play aggressive more. :D
It seems to take up valuable time which could be focused on more attentive drinking ;)
Was there a debrief last night??
Nope. Mr C is/was ill so no Debrief. Not sure if it is possible for them to do one this week now.
Hi Lou. Have you recovered from yesterday?
nearly.. i ache lots, and am tired, but last week of term this week :) yay
Only one more term of school ever then?
just 1/2 a term really. Our leavers day is the last day of the next half term.. then we are on study leave + exams.. it's all very scary.
still feel like... rubbish :(
how's everyone else?
You shouldn't be scared. You should be looking forward to some freedom and opportunities
oh no! :( lots of my friends seem to have tonsillitis.. and seem ill after the musical run. Thankfully i don't have any tonsils and i only ache.
Get well soon Mr C!!
hmm.. at the moment i'm looking at taking a gap year i don't really want.. i have 2 more interviews though, and i suppose it may work out for the better..
good to hear :)
Just heard on Twit that Leo is going to have someone start a new show - This Week in Space - and they will live stream all the launches. Is it just me or is his timing just a little out when NASA only has three more shuttle launches then no manned missions for at least 7 years?
If you end up without a place have you considered contacting some photographers and offering to work cheap for a year to get experience?
sounds like you need to be on that show!
yeah, and that's exactly what i'll do i think. Try get loads of experience and help myself on the way up.. but i have a horrible feeling that if that happens and goes well i'll never go to uni. Which itself isn't awful, but i can't help thinking i would really really like a degree..
They have some bloke who is a proper space expert. He is called Miles O'Brien which wa also the name of the bloke who was an engineer in a couple of Star Trek series
The uni experience would be good for you but if you find a great opportunity and you have the choice of staying there or going back to uni and maybe losing that position then forgt uni then. You just have to play the cards you are dealt.
yeah, i wouldn't turn down an opportunity if i got one tbh.
Does the university application system allow you any way to apply to other unis if you don't get any of the places you originally applied for? I assume some courses end up under-subscribed if they offer places to people who then take up different offers
Yeah, if you receive no offers you can apply through extra which gives you 2(?) applications to courses listed as undersubscribed. Then there's clearing which happens in the summer after results which is basically an insane free for all again on under-filled courses.
I'm not sure how it works on creative subjects though..
I'm not sure on the numbers, the details have changed since I applied but the premise is the same.
Ooooh did you make an application via the alternative route?
That would make it different. I suspect you made a standard UCAS application though? I'd have to look up some files I have if you did. I used to give talks about this in schools unfortunately the salient information appears to have vacated my head.
no.. but most if not all art courses require interview before they'll accept you, as they need to see your work.
Okay, extra allows for interviews and works in exactly the same way as your initial application. You can only enter extra once you've had replies from all your universities and have received no offers/declined all the offers you received. You then can send off your application to further courses that are advertised as having extra vacancies. They can then invite you to send off portfolios/interview as before.
By august they might be more concerned about cash?
Its weird i know, but they will be keen to get their courses as full as they can
ahhh cool :) well i'm gonna take each week as it comes, and keep on top of stuff. Lets hope i don't get that far and either Farnham and uni of Kent like me..
At least that gives some options
Right I found my sheet. You make applications to extra one at a time. You send off your original application (you're not allowed to make any changes to it) via the online service. They have 21 days to respond to you after that you can apply to somewhere else. This can go on up until 30th June
How are you Lou
i'm okay. how are you?
blimey! that's really good to know. thank you Alison :)
I'm good thanks, just having a quiet time
Is this the first tim I have seen Alison and Nick have a sensible conversation on here without pancakes, flights or lots of !!!!!! ?
All unis can't be insane so someone will like you.
I think its natural to have a bit of a panic at application time
Some would say she has mellowed me.
Others would disagree :P
To be fair, we weren't talking to each other, we both spoke to Lou :P
What goes on?
That must be the secret
All's good I hope?
Same as ever
Quick question for everyone. I tried thi last night but there were not many people around.
I 4500 words on what F1 should be like too long for a guest post?
Is not I
As long as it doesn't fall into rambling and creates good points with solid arguments, then word count shouldn't be too much of an issue I think.
Evening all :)
Good evening Leigh!
It's been a funny sort of day...
Are you feeling better Mr C?
I knew it was going to be long when I started it but not that long. The trouble is that so many different aspects are linked so it has to exist as a whole. Someone last night suggested making a series but as soon as the comments started to come in I would be refering to later parts so that wouldn't work. It doesn't ramble on any particular point because there are so many different points covered. I could easily make it several times longer but I don't think I could cut more than a couple of hundred words from it but there is not point in doing that.
I am liking all the no's
Good stuff then
not really, i shall sleep soon.
sorry, i missed your radio show :(
I just stood on the weighing scales - screamed on the inside....
Sorry to hear that... Sleep is apparently good for you... Or so I've heard.
you have to log in to view f1.com videos now?
Interesting... A company has created a film that works in polaroid cameras!
I have now e-mailed my guest post to Mr C. I am sure not wveryone will like my suggestions but that is normal
Whe the scales scream that is bad
Interestingly my post-Bahrain post (ahem...) should be done tonight too - it's taken four days; not because it's in depth, but more because I haven't felt the best
Which would be a worse situation to be in everyone agrees except the F1 management or this current mixture?
I'm not sure? The former might be more frustrating.
No idea. I got an w-mail with the Bahrain highlights and just binned it. Bahrain in that stupid layout does not exist as far as I am concerned
She sells sea shells at the whale weigh station... Hold on I got confused.
received. thanking you.
have forwarded onto mrs. c, cause i don't really do proof reading so well :)
Almost as if I hurt its back. Looking forward to your post though - fancy CC-ing a copy to Bernie
Conventional film or polaroid type film? Either way it doesn't make a lot of business sense
Polaroid type film.
Bahrain certainly missed a certain something for me too....
Hmmm... can I put my finger on it?...
Not sure either.
Bernie reads blogs.
Seem odd Polaroid pulled out of that and someone else is moving in but with start up costs
I was very confused, i thought you meant a film as in a movie!
I think it's Ilford but I'm not sure as the site is down...
...but I bet he throws jewel encrusted buns at the computer screen while he does it
they have totally rewritten history. you'd think chandock went 75% race distance from watching this!
You thought they had created a movie that works IN Polaroid cameras?
Hehe, he was voted 3rd most popular driver in that lg/fota/F1 racing fan survey. How often did you take it? ;)
Works for me
He does when he reads anything I write. I am sure I have cost him a few TVs
Hence the confusion!
I think im safe for 10 mins or so!
Bernie doesn't mind as long as he doesn't have to put up with "that HD nonsense"
but Polaroid photography is gaining in popularity at the moment. I'd love it if i could find some cheap film for our old polaroid camera.. or if i could buy a new camera. I know there are some instant cameras that print instantly.. but they just aren't the same as the cute appearance of a Polaroid photo.
No idea what's going on, but this looks amazing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePelcaQOEaE
Oh dear, I almost forgot I had one in the works. Should expect mine emailed to either yourself or Christine tonight or tomorrow.
Annoyingly because I was slightly miffed that he wasn't on the grid this year I didn't do the survey...
Obviously had I done so Michael would have been an also ran....
I know photographers like Polaroid for a quick check of what their shot looked like when they were setting it up but does that still apply with digital?
Sweeeeet. (I think)
It's got a really nice asthetic. Dave Gorman is a big fan...
There is actually a Polaroid movie: http://www.break.com/index/awesome-stop-motion-polaroid-movie.html
not really, but there are several photographers that work exclusively in polaroid... well they like to. Plus generally there has been a rise in their popularity. I've had several people asking me where they can buy 'old fashioned' polariod cameras just recently. At times they seem more popular than digital cameras.
dear lord... am guessing you didn't see the ad?
It was a great idea to have a camera that gave instant pictures but it doesn't have the sharing options that digital has. I can understand why people like it though. Passing round a digital camera so that people can look at the pic that has just been taken is not the same
ahh, right. changes each reload. the one i saw, possibly not safe for work etc.
you won't believe it. I just installed skype and it worked. Without me having to touch any settings. I'm quite scared to reboot the computer. What if it stops?
Ah terribly sorry... I have just clicked on the link and well... I am sorry I linked!
That is incredible. Must have cost a fortune for all that film
I can't remember any more
Me too also
:P It's brilliant ... really. Well at least for me :)
I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but check out the ferrari theme park!
normally i wouldn't have seen it, but have click2flash disabled because we're looking at driver sites :)
Saw it earlier. To be honest, it looks quite ugly
I am normally quite careful. But of course with rotation they get you.
That's Ferrari world in Dubai. It was shown at the GP
That's at everyone's favourite track...
The positive I can say was that it was a great venue for the concerts... they were fun....
Dubai > Abu Dhabi
Well it's next door..."ish"....
The interesting thing is that in real lif the shiny roof is covered in sand.... not quite the look they'd planned....
Aye - I remember at the time jokes being passed around that the folk at the circuit would hire people to sweep the roof prior to the race
Inside the concert venue http://img710.imageshack.us/i/imag0121m.jpg
I have finaly found somewhere to upload photos, so i will get on with getting as many up from my visits to yas.
I hope to write about it too if i get a chance!
So, what does one do while unemployed? Why, you plunk down $500 on a crapcan BMW 318i and enters (and finishes) WRC Mexico, of course!
Or, maybe not:
Looks like they ran in a rally that runs concurrently with WRC Mexico (same stages)
Evening all :)
Hello Mr RubberGoat
*waves at people lurking*
*waves back* but I am not lurking any more.
*also waves at lurkers*
Evening Lou - about time this place woke from its temporary slumber
Another former F1 driver has signed for Superleague and another Brazilian team has entered. You would think there was no shortage of Brazilian drivers but they signed a foreigner.
Tunnel collapse at Spa and a hole appears in the run off to Blanchimont which is a really quick corner. Hope they can fix it for the GP.
Apparently it'll only be out of action for a week
Did Bernie tell Spa to build it like Donington and they took it too literally?
If I was them that is exactly what I would be saying too but tunnels don't collapse for no reason so either it had a structuarl failure or there is a problem with the ground. Either of those could end up wih all sorts of implications and complications.
That really deserves http://instantrimshot.com/
It was steel wired concrete, which apparently was built in the 70's...
The tunnel's been there for about 30 years, but for some reason the structure collapsed this morning.
Steven you'll be glad to hear Nick and I had a disagreement about deciduous apples.... All is well in the world again.
Not according to Joe. He suggests corrugated iron.
What is a deciduous apple? You eat it and it grows again from the core. Glad all is well with the world and hope you are enjoying Masterchef
What is a deciduous apple.... well that was precisely my point! :P
I thought it may be a Steve jobs computery thing
Yeah that's what I meant. Funny what misreading it 12 hours ago does to the brain ;)
No he was definitely talking about fruit. Silly boy.....
I am surprised Bernie allows such a low tech material to be used at an F1 track but then Blanchimont is a long way and up a steep hill from his air conditioned part of the track
He really is very confused. Earlier on he thought someone had made movies that work in Polaroid cameras.
He has been knocking on the door for ages so its good to see him get in ;)
Insane! He really needs some sense talking into him that boy.... I've given up :P
He doesn't like that nickname.
He prefers BobbyD.
Oh, and Karthikeyan has signed for PSV in Superleague.
You have to read Joe's piece on the other Spanish F1 team. The one that didn't get chosen. Max must have been bribed to choose Campos over them.
Why don't they just call it "Former 1"?
And van der Drift has signed for Olympiakos
Cats don't lurk...
They sleep, prowl and....
Karthikeyan also does some Nascar Truck races, although letting Narain near a pitwall is a dangerous thing. LeMans ahum.
*waits for Spurs to sign a driver based on an impressive race performance, but then ends up failing totally before disappearing again*
Presentation was in the garden of one of the Dutch Royal palaces.
aweseom guest post ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/22/f1-how-it-should-be/
Already? I'm impressed.
I am just finishing up something along those lines, but you have put it better than I ever could sir!!
we had the easy job!
My work has a corporate discount website. I've never really tried to use it before but I was trying to redeem some of the amazing benefits that I'm apparently entitled to and it keeps crashing....
ggaaah! don't you just hate it when you've seen a photographers work but can't remember their name! all i know is they took photos of smoke in glass bowls and some of water droplets... that doesn't exactly narrow things down. sugar...
hello, feeling better?
Am happy with what I've done this evening, much progress made :)
I give up. The only bit that was working gives me 15% off airport parking which isn't really a pressing concern....
I have forgiven stupid work website. I have managed to print voucher for £10 haircut at designer salon....
I just figured out where your name comes from. Sometimes I am just slow
how's things with you?
Maybe you should just post all the details here and we could try for you ;)
You want to cut my hair?? Nick would never forgive you....
i'm alright, bit tired, what about you?
No. I just want to try and get you other discounted things. Just to make sure it works
There's nothing you would want particularly I don't think. Do you like to park at Birmingham airport or want a designer haircut? I was really looking for discount vouchers for meals out....
a bit stressed - got to go into work tomorrow to discuss my return from maternity leave. but happy that my bathroom is finally finished! am reading steven's post at the mo
It's taken three days, but finally - "Following the Storm"
The fan in my computer is going crazy. Is there a reason why my computer is overly hot all of a sudden? It's not getting any cooler.....
hmmmm... mine too all of a sudden
i get that with mine all the time. it's usually when i'm editting loads and loads of pics, or been watching iplayer..
Check the task manager and close whatever is using the most CPU %
Video works the cpu hard so that is normal
okay... i can't work out how to get the williams f1 podcast onto itunes. Why have they suddenly decided not to put podcasts on itunes when they've been so good at it in the past?
So heikki is going to gaga tonight. Would it be wrong to sit outside rod laver for hours to see him? Pity the place has two entrance gates ;)
Mr C created http://huffduffer.com/sidepodcast and you can get the Williams podcasts from there.
There doesn't seem to even be an rss feed with them. bit odd.
if Em lived in Melbourne she'd happily sit outside one gate and wait while you sit at the other. lol you should definitely try and talk to Heikki while he's in melbourne...
mr c is a legend. thanks for the link Kathi :)
Oh dear. Is that minus points in the rankings?
*who is this gaga?!*
no, go for it! i once slept in an alleyway off oxford street to meet take that!
hehehehe the things we do for celebrities :P the most i've done is go up to london to see Jenson... nothing as adventurous as sleeping in an alleyway..
Sadly my closest brush to fame was when Sam Allardyce walked into me. Never forgiven him since.
I have told some me the girls in my office who are going tonight to be on heikki lookout for me :D
nooo. that wont get you a pic or a convo with Heikki...
ooh i'd go to london to see jenson too! I wasn't alone that night - there were about 100 of us plus security and tv cameras
Why not buy a ticket and go in? He will be easy to spot once inside (judging by Zoe's photos of her 'fans') and you know you'd love the show :P
David Beckham held a door open for me once (when he was at Man U). I mumbled cheers.
and you've not sold your story to the Daily star yet? ;)
That isn't too bad at all.
aaahhh with 100 it seems a little bit better :) Jenson is awesome though
i've had quite a few brushes with famous people, mostly Take That cos i was a bit of a stalker for a while, but damon hill nearly walked into me in regent street once :D
When I was mascot for Spurs I met legends such as Jol, Carrick and ahem, Sorensen. Sadly it was the one game Edgar Davids was injured.
Nico Rosberg stalked me last year...
He was just everywhere I went....
But I refused to give him any encouragement....
you were a mascot???? cool!!
i know how you feel... Jenson did the same at goodwood.... didn't he Lukeh?
Oh goodness, he could not keep himself away from us.
Is Jol as smiley as he seems on TV?
Yep. Most surreal moment in my life was having a minute long conversation with Ledley King.
Anyway, got an amazing day at school tomorrow so must go to bed. Night and lotsa love
Yes :) He is soooo awesome.
awesome indeed you did better than me at talking to him tho - when i met take that i could just about say hello!
My friend thought it was funny when I nearly knocked Nico over as I headed Kimi off after a Press Conference...
Not sure Nico saw the funny side of it though....
I met James Hunt at Silverstone years ago. Without a doubt the single least impressive human being I have ever met and he had this dopey alsation with him that walked behind him like it weighed a ton and as soon as he stopped it dropped like it had been shot.
Met Jackie Stewart at Knockhill a couple of years ago. What a pro. Worked his butt off all day to keep his fans happy.
Most famous person I have been up close to though is Gorbachev. Came round the corner in a hotel in Moscow and ended up nose to nose with him. It's amazing what goes through your mind in the second that follows that. Mainly those huge guys either side of him seem to have huge bulges in their jackets
i had about 2 hours worth of building up to it... he was just too friendly not to talk to, lol :)
I always thought he would be really grumpy in real life
I'm glad we didnt take 2 hours to decide over Michael McIntyre ;)
you didn't give me a chance! you just pulled me after him! you did all the talking though, so that's fine. lol
I only met him for two minutes. Now David O'Leary....
He had a cute dog...
Jackie is funny at GPs... he hangs out at Williams (well he used to) and rushes out to talk to anyone who was in the pitlane.... it was more difficult not to get your photo taken with him...
But he sure does the biz for the sponsors....
i've met quite a few footballers - i got married at Upton Park and when i went for meeting there they had an open training session on
He spent ages with the fans when I saw him at Goodwood, despite his PA trying to rush him on
i had all night to build up to it - my voice just failed me!
It was definitely not cute. It looked like a mangy fleabag that thought breathing was just too much effort
:) i basically worked out a script in my head tbh.. lol i got totally star struck when i met his dad strangely enough.. lol
Did you notice the weird face he pulls when he poses for a photo. It looks most odd in real life but when you see it in a picture it looks like he is just starting to laugh. When I first saw him do it I thought he was in a bad mood but like everything else he does he has found out the best way to look in a photo. WOnder how many modern drivers put that much thought in.
omg!! how is it possible to have 34 photocalls and 14 deadlines in one day! press days for motorsport photographers seem to be absolutely crazy!!!
i (heart) that the 3rd year uni student i met at Falmouth is so friendly, and happy to email me all the time. :)
how funny! i always get like it when there's a build up, the ones out of the blue are the ones i deal with best
It couldn't help getting old...
At least James didn't care about it's appearance....
Watch out Lukeh! :P
Not sure if I want them to.... spooky....
hahaha #sorrylukeh ;)
i did mean from a photographic, helpful, way though... :)
I don't think he cared about anything. He was there representing Marlboro and every time they wanted him they had pull him out of the bar
Sounds just like my type....
I think I'm just very wary of helpful people....
you must be pretty
that's very pessimistic!
Hahaha if you say so
but you're always so helpful and nice to me.. does this mean i need to be wary of you? ;)
Get away! I guess it is a bit silly. I am naturally helpful. No-one else is allowed to be though.... :P
Do you need to be wary of strangers on the internet? Nope ;)
aha, so many jokes so little time. how are we all this evening?
i'm okay. Got to sleep now though, big exciting psychology conference tomorrow, gonna get to hear from the great Zimbardo! :) hehe.. i'm a little bit too excited.
night all! xx
That's what all the girls say, when they are really just after one thing :P
I am excellent! How about your good self?
did you say big, exciting and psychology in the same sentance?
rather you than me!
Good thank you, i have a certain test tomorrow that is quite important and so a little nervous about that but it should be fine aslong as i concentrate!
Whats happened to make you excellent?
Philip Zimbardo is such an influential psychologist... it's gonna be awesome! :)
Honestly never heard of him/her
*really is gone*
oh and goodluck!!
You'll be fine. You know how to drive. Just keep telling yourself this over and over.
I am flying to Melbourne tomorrow to meet some other SPCers and attend my first GP. I am excited!
i think excited would be an understatement if i were in your position
I've been to so many motor sport events over the years as a spectator and competitor that I'm worried it won't live up to the hype. But everybody says it will and meeting Paul, Amy, Wolf etc will be awesome
i've never been to a GP and only very few motorsport events - sadly can't afford it
I uploaded video of my motorsports event this past weekend.
I cant afford to compete anymore even though club level stuff is relatively cheap.
I started attending events within weeks of getting my provisional licence. I went by myself because nobody else was interested and all my money went on petrol and entry fees which thankfully were a lot cheaper in those days
I think Autotests are such awesome motorsport. Love it
I'm hoping to get a provisional license this year so I can compete in time trials.
Glad you dug it Jon =)
looks cool and quite tough!!
its such a simple principle but so awesome
It was pretty fun. Everyone was severely rusty, only four people out of 100+ had four clean runs w/out hitting any cones. I came in 4th in my class.
I'm listed as my name, Jim Newman, on NON BMW 4 group. I was surprised at some of the cars in other classes that I beat with my little Toyota Corolla.
Needs more mud :P
My old club:
Some photos from the day:
For those who just can't stop doing it there are five new Only connect walls up. 21 is the easiest ever.
Now for 22
off to bed folks - shall be back at some stage tomorrow
oh now you've got me started i'll never get to bed!
They are infuriating. I had ten seconds to go on 22 before I got a line
I did 22 :D
Even after I got the last two lines, I couldn't tell you how they were related though.....
AND 23!!! I'm on a roll!!
Out of the 5 new ones I managed one completely and one without knowing one of the connections and failed miserably on the other three. The reason I didn't get the connection is because it is inantile and I is way too intelligent to think to that level. ;)
Ah yes, I missed one RIDICULOUS connection on 23.....
That was the other one I did
There is an f in infantile
I am now giving up :P Quit while you're ahead I'd say....
