This daily post is slightly late as I was caught up watching the Red Bull Crashed Ice final. We also live commented it, along with the 12 Hours of Sebring. You know, we are an F1 site, honest. It's Sunday, and with no racing this weekend, it seems like a pretty quiet time in terms of F1 news. Nevertheless, here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • Preview quotes for the Australian GP are starting to appear already, and the Hispania ones are very sweet. The team are simply aiming for one car to get to the finish, not even both. That is probably the least ambitious thing we have heard all year. It's completely fitting though, and I appreciate the team's honesty in terms of what they can achieve.
  • Joe has what he calls A Mish-Mash of News including discussion of Natacha Gachnang, and how the FIA will get new teams into the sport for 2011.
  • Ferrari allowed their three development drivers to have a go in the F2008 at Fiorano during a test session on Friday. Apparently there will be five such tests available for the young drivers and I think it's good to see Ferrari taking the approach of encouraging young talent, rather than hoping a driver who hasn't raced for ten years might be up to the job. Eh-hem.

That's all for now, I hope you're having a fabulous weekend, I know I am. As ever, I will see you in the comments.

Get this! At the St. Pete GP next weekend, one of the Indycars will be painted green and yellow and be sporting the livery of the Lotus. In fact, it will have Lotus Cosworth on the sidepod. I wonder how Honda feels about this.

best not to use the kitchen too soon after you've done the big clean because it can be very dispiriting that.

Maybe that's just the way I think

Hello all, just popping in whilst eating lunch as I'm getting some work done today (8 more working days to go). Am impressed with Tesco Customer Service. I'm due a delivery today and they've rung me to let me know they will be late due to staff issues. This is not a problem for me so long as the food arrives today and I was happy that they let me know. I've just checked my e-mail and they've also sent me 2 x £5.00 vouchers. So, I'll still get my food delivery & I'm £10.00 up. Yay :)

    Helllo folks.

    Hello again

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)21/03/2010 at 14:36

    Afternoon guys.

Did I mention I went to see a Grand Prix yesterday BTW?

    Hi Gavin, do tell

    Hey Bassano.

In Denmark, any tournament is called a 'Grand Prix' for some reason - eg the Eurovision is called the 'Melody Grand Prix'.

So yesterday I went to see a Grand Prix because my niece competed in the Funen Junior Gymnastics Grand Prix ;)

  • Alex Andronov21/03/2010 at 14:39

So yesterday I went to see a Grand Prix because my niece competed in the Funen Junior Gymnastics Grand Prix ;)

A friend of mine insists on referring to F1 as "the Big Prize". It does make it sound quite silly. Eg. "are you coming out this weekend or are you watching the big prize?"

he also calls it "cars going around"

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)21/03/2010 at 14:40

He's not really wrong on either account though

oh yes. It's good to have critics. Stops you getting complacent.

    Alex....

I thought you had a better taste in friends... does he always talk like a Hollywood "B" movie from the 50's?....

  • Bassano21/03/2010 at 14:43

Bassano, are you back in the UK?

    This morning, yes

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)21/03/2010 at 14:43

    This morning, yes

Can I ask you a question about the Spa trip then?

    Of course

    Of course

If I was to meet you guys in the UK and drive to Spa with you, how much do you think it would cost?

  • Bassano21/03/2010 at 14:45

Are you driving from the UK? I was wondering if it was possible to tag along with someone from the UK if they meet me somewhere but I wonder how much the Ferry/Train over the channel costs?

  • Bassano21/03/2010 at 14:51

Are you driving from the UK? I was wondering if it was possible to tag along with someone from the UK if they meet me somewhere but I wonder how much the Ferry/Train over the channel costs?

There's at least 2 cars going that I know of so far

I figure about £100 worth of fuel to be safe.

Eurotunnel is £50 or less per car

Accommodation & GP tickets are variable

    Plus food & drink

  • Leigh O'Gorman21/03/2010 at 14:53

    Hey everyone,

Just in from Sunday lunch - it's nice out and I'm rather happy

Is that per car or per person? Do you have a spare seat in your car and how many are driving down with you?

I have said yes to the campervan but because I can't drive I have to see how I get down to Spa. Either fly to Gatwick and somebody picks me up or fly to Brussels and meet you there...

  • Bassano21/03/2010 at 14:54

    How is everyone?

    Good, thanks Leigh

    Did you have a roast?

  • RG21/03/2010 at 14:55

Heya Leigh. Am alright, bit battered but I'll live. Just jealous you had some nice sunday dinner :)

  • Leigh O'Gorman21/03/2010 at 14:56

    :)

  • Bassano21/03/2010 at 14:56

Is that per car or per person? Do you have a spare seat in your car and how many are driving down with you?

Fuel is per car for the entire journey. At the moment I have Lou & Amy, so I should have a spare seat but I need to confirm that

I have just had a look at the numbers and if I can fit in your car it actually works out a little cheaper. Can I let you know in a couple of days what I would like to do as I am just getting Mrs. Goat to check the prices for a rail trip down...?

sadly i was the only one there who is a student of my school. The two guys both left the school we do productions with last year. One of them has his own disco company and owns part of a large lighting company..(hence why he comes back to help)

we weren't that impressed. The 'teacher' involved turned up before us, realised the school was locked and left. When the three of us arrived we found the relevant people in the boarding houses to open it up for us... even if they did have to lock us in while they were away.

I'm not planning to updrade, XP is fine for my netbook. But I might buy myself a new one after this summer and I'm trying to find out how big the disk has to be at [opposite of most].

I don't really care which windows is on it, I just need it for emergencies if something doesn't work with Linux. But the new ones all have 7 anyway.

Jon you need to test it before you crack it. For future reference, get a bowl of water and put the eggs in, if they sink, they're fine, if they float you should put them in the bin. It tells you if air has got in the shell which is what makes them go off.

  • Jon Waldock21/03/2010 at 20:38

    I found that on google.

    Too late

  • Alison21/03/2010 at 20:39

My logic is a bit backwards there.... If it's going off inside, the process produces the gas which makes it float. It still works though.... Next time eh?

Awww I thought it was cute. The reason you measure things in mugs is to get the same amount. It doesn't work so well with different cups :P

The second time later that day I made more I was much more sorted with it all, not to mention that I didn't take 10 minutes that time to decide what self raising flour does. From my initial experience, it turned out that it is flour that raises.

    The more you know, eh?

I've had an incredibly quiet day today - mostly setting up a predictions competition for a forum. Yes, I know we've missed a race. But then so did the forum (technical problems), so that's OK then. Less OK is trying to find a suitable 3rd prize for last year's running of the competition (long story, don't ask...)

  • Leigh O'Gorman21/03/2010 at 21:18

Just watch Wonders of the Solar System on BBC2. Great episode. They talked about Titan one of Saturn's moons which is the most Earth like thing in the solar system except it is 180 degrees colder. But it has weather, rain, lakes etc except instead of water Titan has methane. I knew all that but what I hadn't realised is when it rains there because gravity is so weak (Titan is much smaller than the Earth) and the atmosphere is a lot more dense than ours the methan rain forms huge raindrops like snow flakes and they float slowly down just like snow flakes. That would be weird.

They also discussed the biggest storm in the solar system. The Earth could fit in it three times.
