Apparently it is rat-catcher's day today, which is not a pleasant thought to start the day with, but it does commemorate the Pied Piper of Hamelin, which makes it slightly better. Wikipedia says it is just like Secretary's Day, but presumably with more rats. Anyway, here is what's happening in F1 at the moment:
- Cosworth believe they will be able to make their engines competitive despite turning down the option to increase the rev count to 20,000rpm. They also say that for now, keeping eight engines a season is a good idea, even if the option is there to reduce that further in the future.
- On the subject of the future, Mario Theissen thinks the teams want to discuss the calendar with Bernie, as they are worried about losing out on important markets. The US is already missing, and Germany could soon drop off the calendar as well. Will Bernie be open to suggestions though?
- Finally, don't forget about Sidepodradio. You can catch up on the idea here, but if you've signed up for a show already, how are you getting on? Need any help from us? Don't forget to let us know what you need, and if you want audience participation, we can create a page for you on the wiki.
That'll do it for now. It's the middle of the week now, which is always good, plodding along nicely towards the weekend. I'll see you in the comments.
And by that turn of the clock hand, i'm done for the night.
Night all
Can I just say that I really like the new (well new-ish) SPC slogan "All for F1 and F1 for All". I noticed it when it was introduced, but forgot to post.
see ya jon.
yay :)
Just looking at sidepodradio
Can Alex really play 2 hours of music? That's two Jethro Tull songs, right?
and a live/pre recorded cooking show? Now that should be interesting. Will Mr C be live trying to keep up with LPG?
Its is very good!
Ah you might have noticed you dont have a show!
Nudge nudge...
I think I'm washing my hair that weekend.
So did we ever set up a page on the Wiki for sidepodmelodrama's?
That will make a superb show!
Go for it!
I need to get through this weekend first, then I will bet back to sidepodland
Get back even.
I think the idea is that LPG will be pre-recorded and Christine will play each instruction at the appropriate time.
Someone need to be volunteered?
:)
and Mr C will cook? Peanut butter sandwiches perhaps?
that's sounds like a plan.
Paul is doing a show on hair washing
:P:P
Oh no, it'll be something more interesting than that. :D
Can you record live in your kitchen?
I can't think about this right now, I'm too concerned about this weekend.
I think LPG should record it with gaps so that Mr C has to be at the right place at the right time or he won't hear the instructions. Of course Christine is going to have to translate most of it anyway.
Does Dan have a show?
not yet...
don't worry, it'll be warm, brawn will be fine.
"knife - that's one of those sharp things".....
Come to that does anyone from the USA have a show?
Wouldn't it be a shame if the USA let down sidepodradio?
I'm actually racing myself this weekend, first time in forever, on a track I've never been to.
It's the one you use as a screwdriver
I've hadn't had a radio show since my college days where I filled in. I did a hard rock radio show in a jazz format for three months.
Would this be a skype thing? How would this work?
So I guess there is no pressure... right?
What you racing? and where?
My MX5, at a track called Oran Park, near Sydney.
You can pre-record it like Alex did with Giggles Radio which is on dropio or you can fo it live via Skype. Can be music or anything else you fancy.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/gigglesradio-flv
Sounds like fun.
I might try to record some on Friday. Sure, what the hell.
I hope so, if I can get up to speed.
You can officially volunteer at http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodradio
How long since you raced?
About a year, but I've never been to Oran Park, and it has some quite tricky sections. I am doing some laps with some old-time gurus though, so I will get some tips.
I have seen Oran Park on TV. I am sure after a few laps you will be back in the flow.
Hope so. I'm looking forward to it - Oran is a classic Aussi track. After this, there's just Bathurst to go.
the dogleg will quickly become a favourite. Watch the bump the second corner after the bridge. Or is it the third...? You'll have a great time!
Hope so, I'm getting nervous. Not quite sure how fast the straight will be and whether I will need to brake for the kink at the end of the straight.
I think I am going to take a hour in the evening. I wanted to do a midseason review column for the blog but it always ended up too long. I can actually do my "how X music explains the F1 season so far" midseason review. Kind of like I did last year in a column but with actual music this time.
Best of luck with it then.
Thanks! If I'm not here next week you'll know why.....
wow, cool!
don't forget it needs to be podsafe though.
That sounds great.
ahh, you'll be fine.
Sounds Great.... :D
Can we get Joe in fla to do one too?
This sketch show... is everyone going to write one then dish out the parts?
I will hapily narate anything, i need to do it next thurday at teh latest though as i will be leaving for the cricket at midday friday...
I guess i could also do some on sunday evening live if need be too..
I am looking forward to a report.
MX5 right? You'll drift it through nicely by the end of the day :-)
depends on your braking for the first corner really. If you are going on Sunday, do you fancy a sidepodmeetup?
not sure, we know where he is! last seen heading into deepest france :)
cool, will keep that in mind then.
What is he up to there?
getting away from f1 i think.
Oh that is right... eeee... I'll work on it.
I think we need to somehow pull the whole thing together. We could actually make it various set piece sketches with a story woven all the way through rather than randome 2 minute sketches.
:-)
Unfortunately there is "family" involved, and I think I have commitments with them. But next time maybe.
oooooooh. that i like too.
I think live would be great. If it turns to chaos so be it. But I think it would be a blast.
Joe in Fla not Joe Saward
I think it would be better to pre record though, so it can all be nicely editied together...
oooh. whoops.
he should be up around now. maybe if we all shout loud enough?
Ah, that makes sense, But Joe Saward would be a great addition too!
someone asked on sunday too, we'll ask this weekend.
We need to get the Joe Saward and David Trymane show going. Joe with the insight and David with the GGRRRRRRRRRR......
Tremayne doing genuine tremayning would be amazing!
gee, and I was going to ditch my visit to mum for you :D next time it is. We should schedule a Canberra meetup.
Which car club are you a member of? BMSC?
MG Car Club Canberra. and before you laugh, they're a nice bunch of people, organize good motorkhanas, and have a great trailer for hire.
I just realized my "family" will mean I miss the F1 too. Booooo :-(
I've just had the sound of Tremayning to the theme tune of "Pick of the Pops" on Radio 2 pop (sorry) into my head.
0121 28 87225
;)
oops. I had asked you that before. I love motorkhanas. I'm much better at them than out in the forest.
You must cop greif over your Japanese MGB though :P
My brother started with them in an MGF. That caused so much grief that getting the MX5 was pure relief. I used to have a Austin Healy sprite, Something without oil leaks is so nice.
Mr C: will you be recording the radio shows in 30 minute chunks for later listening?
hope so, yup. to be determined though.
Just trying to work out the time. I think I might be awake for 4 to 6 hours of it.
I want your (motoring) life
Oh yeah, sounds great until you have to work on the things!
always was my weak point. I think the idea is to make more money and pay someone to do it for me but I haven't got that completely sorted yet either :)
Must work now. Bye all.
Sadly it's stuck in my head, besides it's not podsafe.
see ya sir.
Or in my brother's case - have a brother who will do it.
I learnt a lot from the Healy - I completely stripped everything and restored the whole car. It's fun if you have the time.
See ya.
*waves to joe from the 22nd thread*
hullo
Hey joe
*waves from tomorrow!*
:)
Mr C and i both waved at the same second!
I hope the planet keeps spinning!
that is quite freaky.
See, that's why I prefer doohickey over LCLT
Forgot to switch over to the new daily :(
Wondered why the snips were getting quiet
Okay, I fought my way onto the active thread....what a fight!
hey sir. what happened?
Perhaps the most confusing moment of my life. I'm sure my therapist will sort it out for me
don't send us the bill though, eh?
The bill will not come from my therapist, but from my attorney.....Just kidding, who do you think I am, Bourdais?
hehe.
Your Attorney Bernie?
You see that!
It works! I made it work! :D
yeees!
;)
Okay, totally kidding. Just having a beer or two, not very litigious
got a question for some you Brits. What's the deal with vinegar on your fish and chips. I had fish and chips at the Irish Embassy (An Irish bar in Montreal, not the real embassy) and tried the vinegar thing.....didn't get it. Prefer ketchup. Do any of you Brits have ketchup with your F&C's
Right thats it from me... sleeep!
Fun day of housework planned for tomorrow, then i head down to deepest darkest dorset in the evening for a relatives birthday, so i dont know how much i will be around. Then Manchester for the weekend so i will probably only be here sporadically if at all from friday onwards...
Night all! :D
See ya, Nick
Yup sprinkling of salt, couple of dashes of vinegar on top then a splodge of ketchup on the side... YUM!
isn't there vinegar in ketchup? although i am the last person to ask about cooking. i'll shush now.
later buddy.
Okay, Sir, when is the last time you cooked Christine dinner????????????
Or do you like her too much
i have never done that.
:)
Both actually
I liked the Embassy, one of the better 'themed' Montreal pubs
They dig that. It's easy, all about timing, like pit stops with safety cars
G'night Nick
Isn't that what the radio show is about? I might wake up for that one ;-)
I lived in the Embassy, my hotel was about 300 feet from it. I was in heaven
I stayed at A2K round the corner on Rene Leveaux
He drove for Renault didn't he?
I stayed at the Comfort Inn with my brother on Cresent St. and it was the greatest time
Probably ;)
i'm not cooking her dinner! maybe a cake or something. not a meal though.
I kept trying to hack JV's wifi when next to his Newton joint on Crescent ;)
Didn't work
So it won't be sausages and mash then?
*Newtown
nope!
Two things?
Steady on there!
3 including gravy
Never happen ;)
Where were you for the race, 2007 I was in front of "The Dude's" garage (kimi) and 2008 in the turn 2 grand stands.
I wasn't, just a weekend visit two weeks ago
Walked the track, got sunburned, saw lots of marmots
Beavers, if you listen to Anthony Davidson
:D
It's a great city with or without F1
Incredibly chilled, great bars
Should really make more of the waterfront though
waterfront was a long walk for me. Cresent St was the center of all F1 activity. It's not a very easy Metro ride to the waterfront though.
I miss the Canadian GP
Come on Bernie, sort it out!
That is the first weekend that Canadians can celebrate and they do a great job of it
Morning.
No one's interested in the solar eclipse?
#sidepodspace
The solar eclipse is happening now. That will be why it is dark.
Spooky timing
Will you see the eclipse over there?
Hey Journeyer
Not visible in Europe I think
Enjoy
Indeed. :D
It's 2:30am so it is just like the solar eclipse is here
:D
It's mostly in Asia, right
This is the longest eclipse of the 21st century. It looks like we are going to have a long wait for longer one.
Yes
I'll miss it as my name indicates.
okay, one more budweiser
And the 2nd longest in recorded history. Not bad...
Didn't know that
So say CNN and BBC, anyway...
There will not be a longer eclipse until...
2132.
Again, so says CNN.
I suppose it is unlikely I am going to see that one.
Time for bed.
Good night all
Night Steven
Night Steven.
see you brother
Morning everyone :)
If anyone is scouting around for something interesting to do this morning you might like to reply to this question on my blog: When did you realise you were a geek? http://bit.ly/12oiRn
Now that is a pretty interesting question, right there. Might answer it later when I have time. ;)
Morning - you're an early starter these days? Are you commenting from your train?
Not particularly early for me. Alarm goes off at 5:30. But it's not often that people are around. I am on the train at the moment but only because I missed my usual train. I am usually at my desk by 7 (which was six minutes ago).
Madly the stock market is still based on the principal that it's a fruit and veg market and so everything starts early.
Also when I was working on the novel I was determined not to get distracted by sidepodcast first thing.
You start pretty early too Gavin don't you?
Journeyer I presume you are on a significantly different time zone.
Well I get up at 5am for a 7:45 start, but also I'm an hour ahead, remember?
you have a pretty long commute from memory
Bart to Skinner: "there's a 4 o'clock in the morning now?"
you guys are insane! I'm cranky that I have to be up at 6:45 (and that's only because I take forever to get ready in the morning)
Yeah - technically it's halfway across the country but in reality it's a 1-hour fast train and then a quick subway ride and a short walk once in Copenhagen...
The Stig is racing at Bathurst!
the happiest day of my life was when my office changed its opening hour from 6am to 7.30am. Now I never need to be up before 7.
My God, I just read the transcript for the first Sidepodpanel - I sound really horrible!
my parents are trying to make my brother find a flight at Christmas that arrives the same time as mine so they don't have to go the airport twice. Lazy!
Does your family live in Dunedin?
sure do
Expensive flights then?
yep :( not as bad as I was expecting though.
Good article from vee on the BBC coverage. Kinda like mid-year assessment.
http://vee8.doctorvee.co.uk/2009/07/21/bbc-f1-coverage-pre-and-post-race/
I'm 7 hours ahead of you guys. That said, I do work very close to UK business hours (6 AM - 3 PM BST).
Really? I don't remember it being bad at all...
Tis very good!
Morning Christine,
I have a suggesting for your STYA Film Review. Have you seen "12 Angry Men"?
Nope. Can add it to my list.
It's an old film, a courtroom drama I bought for £2 in HMV. It's quite good!
I have created a page for the Sidepodmelodrama:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodmelodrama
I don't know whether any of the scripts that were written last night are being used or not, but this will be the place to organise the parts.
Why is it not Friday? I am planning a KFC feast to go with practice, I am looking forward to it.
Morning! how is everyone today?
we have a melodrama? wow, a lot really can happen in an evening.
I know. I go to sleep for a few hours and look what happens!
You are looking forward to it several days in advance! How good is KFC?
its my favourite fast food but I try not to live off it so i can continue to fit through doorways, and I can't remember the last time I had it. The anticipation makes it better though!
We have one outlet in Copenhagen. Just one!
hehe
sleep is almost as dangerous as outside round these here parts
How big is Copenhagen? I thought it was a big city! Clearly one is not enough!
There may be more, I just haven't found them!
I like that in a strange city I can put KFC into the GPS on my phone and it will tell me where they are and how to get there. I'd be lying if I said I didn't go to three different ones in Sydney.
oh damn. i've just seem that Jenson sets off on the london triathlon really early! 7:30!!..which would mean i would have to get up really really early to get into london... plus it's on August 2nd :( maybe i wont be going to see the triathlon then..
Wow. I had no idea KFC had such followers! :)
I don't want to cause a panic but there is no KFC in Finland. WHAT WILL I DOOOO HOW WILL I COOOOOPE
They may have 'Helsinki Fried Moose' instead though?
I guess now is not the time to suggest eating proper chicken ;)
You can always come to Denmark instead anyway...
Do you have super high broadband speeds like Kathi?
ahh but I eat plenty of proper chicken already!
Not quite as fast but it's much better than the UK ;)
Chicken Chaser!
Interesting. Faster broadband + KFC seems to make everyone happy.
I guess I could sacrifice KFC for broadband. It's Europe, I could just go to another country for my MSG fix.
You could go and be our on-the-spot reporter. When I do the hourly F1 Minute updates, I could throw to our sports correspondent Lou and you could say: "Yup, they're still running!"
hehehe :) i'll have to speak to mum, it would mean leaving the house just after 5... but then again it may be a good day out.. plus i could cope with saying 'yup they are still running/swimming/cycling' ;)
so Heikki says he is trying to win in Hungary again. Poor deluded Finn. Must be the lack of fried chicken.
aww :) speaking of f1 drivers, from Jenson's twitter this morning it looks like he is really excited about this weekend.
Morning all, waking up to a chorus of emergency vehicles blasting down the motorway isn't the best way to start the day.
he must have good memories of Hungary, as far as epic first wins go his was pretty good :D
They had better not show the eyeballs this year.
aww but it was sweet :) he was so happy :D
So happy his eyeballs nearly fell out.
:D
you know you love it
Won't click it, you can't make me.
Morrrrning all :D
I should have disguised it and said it was Franck
Aww, look at this lovely panda
Mornin Mr Waldock, how be you?
You can't fool me.
ehehe :D it's kinda ruined by Nick Fry in the background but it's still awesome! :)
Damn.
morning :)
I am goooood today thankinya.
And yourself Mr G?
He has really weird eyes doesn't he!
Too tired, stupid police thingies wailing down the motorway.
I just fell for that.
Rubbish
You've all the seen the lovely FIA news i guess?
Well, it worked on someone at least.
ARRRRGH more politics?
mhmmm
who Jenson or Nick Fry?
Nick Fry...
he looks like he is permanently wearing eye liner
i agree.
*checks* oh...
However, the amount of people on the Harold Bishop for the next Doctor group on facebook doubled to 70 yesterday.
Whoop
I hope the Beeb are listening.
Well, it's a fancy way for the FIA to deny it. But who are they fooling, really?
This is the FIA: "Look... We just reviewed a list of all actresses in the wold and selected Michelle Yeoh. We didn't even know that she was going out with the person we are trying to anoint as successor to our retiring dictator. We thought about getting her to do an advert for us, but instead we decided to send her and her partner (whoever that is) to all of the countries who can vote for the anointed successor of our retiring dictator. He tagged along because although he is a very busy man he decided to support her by shaking the hands of all of the people who would have to vote for him. To suggest there is something dodgey in all of this is scandalous. We did not pay to fly Jean Todt all around the world, we paid to send Michelle Yeoh all around the world with her partner Jean Todt. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE."
It's kinda like our local congressmen distributing food to their poor constituents. They'll always say it's just part of their job, but everyone knows there's an ulterior motive...
Love it.
In the words of Captain Renault, "I'm shocked, shocked to find that ... is going on in here!"
LOOK!!! LOOOK!!!!! LOOOOOOK!!!!
http://bit.ly/mkkky
Its a Toyota thats not in the usual livery...
*faints*
ahh, the past. i like it there.
For those who were around when we discussed weheartalex.com, I settled on the free option instead:
http://weheartalex.tumblr.com/
Oh.My.God.
hahahahaha
Too kind! Wow!
hahahahaha
Gosh: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8162628.stm
How do they know?
ahaha amazing, does this mean Amy now has to pay less to fly home?
Because they have Crazy Boffins with beards. DO NOT go drinking with them!
sadly my home is on the east coast, so it's only 1cm closer :(
How hateful it is to be home. :(
Awww :(
Sorry to hear that :(
:P
How was the 'Ring?
the sat nav got you back in one piece? :D
Not good :(
Slippery.
heheheh. love it.
Def Leopard?
I've gone mad... Sorry...
Bon Jovi?
i (hearts) the readmore button. i might be addicted.
i just realised I haven't ever needed to use it. I need to step awaaaay from the sidepodcast.
I was wondering....
Tyres just didn't work - may have been a little damp, but it didn't seem that way.
Still now have to buy 2 new tyres anyway.
Now I think you can see why the rest of us were leaving our doohickys open :)
another one?
wow!
i like that i haven't missed a single comment during sleep, and i didn't have to remember to leave the thing open before going to bed (which i never once managed to do).
Why do you ever close it out of interest?
every morning was a "doh!" moment. every single day for 9 months.
always close apps. i can't help it.
christine's machine is a sea of open windows, all taking up tiny bits of memory. i reboot the mac most days, even though i don't have too.
In my browsers I have as my first three tabs at home: Google Mail, Doohicky and Twitter as my first three tabs. At work Fogbugz, Doohicky and Twitter (because home e-mail is blocked).
You could have that launch on startup, although I guess you don't need to now.
Not anymore.
my homepage is blank, for the fastest browser startup experience.
that's kinda important when you quit and open the thing a 100 times a day.
Oooh things have changed!
yay! i win.
Yea, well, you've gone on about it enough. I still blame the Mac. On most things you click the little red close button and it disappears but doesn't close. Stoopid.
My homepage is blank. And nothing starts on startup.
I'm ritualised into it. So I can find things with muscle memory.
Why that many times?
Ah yes. Katherine does that on the mac too. Apple and Microsoft are to blame for refusing to see the error of their both dumb ideas on this.
i think my left hand might be glued to apple+q.
i can't explain it, it just quit stuff a lot. maybe i like the desktop background, or maybe i remember computers when you just had to do that.
i go for days without looking at my desktop background. I really should more often. Oh. Hello Mr Kovalainen. Fancy seeing you there.
Apple - H
It's the way forward
hmmm.
For others who don't need to see their desktop Apple - Tab is of course another useful combination.
I would bring up the Apple-chinese-worker-suicide but I'd hate to start another argument :P
What key combination does that?
:D
hahahahahhahahaha
The most unlikely couple ever?
Did you see AUTOSPORT's apology at the end? I don't remember them making boo-boos like that in the past...
I can. They jumped a gun with the 'Spy-Gate' verdict in 2007 when they said that McLaren were banned from the rest of the championship...
yeah they have. and they've apologised if i recall. didn't see the original, presumably now it won't make it to the online features section either.
there were a couple of bad calls around that period, i think the 9 disks containing half the internet came from them too.
Who would've thought they'd last this long? I sure didn't.
she's based in Hong Kong, he is I assume not. They probably don't spend much time together :D
Wasn't that Matt Bishop when he was outgoing as the F1 Racing editor and had a conflict of interest as he was taking the job at McLaren?
Another Parallel with Mosley then...?
dunno. do i remember an apology, or am i just making stuff up? 2007 seems like a lifetime ago.
Sadly it does :(
still, today is the first time i've missed the paper autosport magazine since we stopped buying it.
Whyzat?
because i can't read what was said.
Does Google know?
don't think so.
Wayback machine?
this it?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/64285
Maybe, but there's no apology there...
Good afternoon!
AUTOSPORT apologising!?
Clearly GMM* are more reliable, no apolagies from them!
*(Giggles Made-up Media)
can giggles fix it so that the tissue that was obviously in with my washing wasn't stuck to all my clothes?
ooopps.
Have you seen you are now closer to New Zealand than you were?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8162628.stm
\id asked for a discount on the flights....
Mostly I am angry that I missed such a big earthquake. I love earthquakes.
Tis a sad day for both nations...
i'm not sure we're having the same conversation.
i'm sad that we didn't get autosport magazine last week because i wanted to see what they said about todt.
Hahahaha :D
Should still be on the shelves, new one comes out tomorrow...
Ive never been in one... I have been in a cyclone though, i imagine the earthquake could never be quite as much fun!
outside? are you nuts :)
my only point was, that today is the first day in 7 months i've missed not having the magazine. last issue we bought was the xmas special i think.
really not that big a deal.
I've just been in thunderstorms. Guess I'm missing out on a lot.
Petrol stations have roofs... do they count as outside? :P
Ever flown over a volcano erupting?
No.
Your just showing off now. ;)
You know how lees get blown about in the wind... In a cyclone those are trees!
I see a certain Piquet jr is running another competition on twitter, win 5 t-shirts this time.
I'll stick with thunderstorms.
When we emigrated to NZ we got delayed in LA because Mt. Ruapehu was erupting. When we tried to land in Auckland, the pilot tried and aborted twice due to fog. The pilot announced that we were flying to Christchurch and to do that, we flew almost directly overhead the volcano, which was spitting out ash, rocks and smoke. It was coooool!
is it a competition to show how hard done by he is in comparison to his team-mate?
Evening everyone, whats happening?
I thinks its more... can you suggest ideas as to how we fit 2 cars and all the mechanics into the garage alongside my teamates ego... :P
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........
Right. Sorry I thought you couldn't find the article where they appologised many moons ago.
:)
ooh, pretty.
last weekend was no F1 so for excitment we got ourselves little typhoon over here :-) this is quite funny footage from local news:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I40c9ZAx9js
Haha, i'm not sure what is funnier, the guy with the umbrella or the guy with the beer!
Nope they were both beaten by the guys with the metal sheet, and then the prize has to go to mr yellowsuit!
I liked the TV presenter :-)
when I saw that metal sheet I was wondering how would a F1 car behave in that sort of wind :-)
http://twitpic.com/b6uxq
i likes that too.
I heard it was quite nice here as well, 3/4 of the sun was gone, I unfortunately enjoyed long sleep in the morning and missed the eclipse :-(
doh!! :)
Surtees and Superaguri were team-mates last year at a team just down the road from me.
Its going to be a massively hard weekend for the guy...
So, just saw the Sidepodmelodrama page on the wiki, what sort of stuff are you guys looking for?
Listen to the first line of this...Betcha cant avoid a facepalm!
UK People
Non UK People
poor Murray. So old. So senile.
i has no audio :(
Lip reading?
"Formula one loves the Hungarian grand prix, and with good reason..."
Heh.
Is that because he ignored Heikki winning last year ;) ?
No, it was definitely based solely on the "Formula One loves the Hungarian Grand Prix"
Ah he wants somene new to win a race this weekend...
Timo?
QuickNick?
ahhh... PK!
what a birthday present that would be. For Nelson. Not for Anando.
Lee Mackenzie wants people to follow that fool in GP2. :(
just saw your tweet. nice response ;)
He said that? A shame - he's been a pretty good pundit on Star Sports whenever he's been asked to sit in.
apparently wheels haven't come off of f1 cars for years...
hehe the latest video on Jenson's site makes me laugh :) plus it makes me want to go see him in the triathlon more....
link - http://jensonbutton.com/#/Video/Latest/
Yup... A couple of tweets down on this page
and here
Hasn't all he said that there should be better wheel tethers?
I wish his videos had a pause button so I could let them load before I watch them, I get terrible stop-starting on them :(
there was a story a couple of days ago. he said couldn't believe what happened, because in f1 their perfect. or some such nonsense. not on twitter though.
Ah right, thought you meant on twitter.
Carry on.
best thing to do is play it once and do something else (with the sound down?) then play it again, and it loads fine :) works with me anyways :)
He basicly said that the FIA cut costs so much in F2 the design of the car was dangerous.
This is the link
Who's in charge of the Sidepodmelodrama by the way?
I guess it might be me... I am narating it...
Steven had some good idea's about linking it all together last night....
nick's narrating it...
Im going to be leaving for the night in a few mins though, wont be around at the weekend either...
Okay, no probs. I've had a couple of email questions is all, and I have no answers! :)
blimey. ok, should we volunteer steven?
We could do. Steven came up with the idea of linking it all together, so we need an underlying theme, don't we?
I thought maybe a new team joining the grid would be good, because it's a way of introducing all the characters.
Oooh. Didn't notice earlier - It's Pi day. :D
Mmmm Pi....
sounds very good to me.
And presumably the funky character names need to be standard, else it won't make sense. But the scenarios are a free-for-all.
Wait a second.. am I in charge of it? :)
If you use an inaccurate estimate for the value of Pi... then yes, it is!
self nomination. even better.
:)
22/7 is Archimedes' own approximation of pi
If it's good enough for him - It'll do for me.
Archimedes didn't have a calculator or a computer though...
Most of my Math teachers told me that if I used 22/7 it would be considered the wrong approximation due to more modern methods...
Maybe, but a lot of the sketches are spoofs of the normal f1 people interacting...
Perhaps if everyone debates a concept tonight, then everyone can submit ideas for scenes to the wiki over the next few days, then we can write a script and dish out parts next week, and hopefully record it then?
christine may like this page. haven't added everyone i follow yet. but i shall do.
it brings back the whole of the tweet conversation that twitter stole from us recently.
the only downside is the avatars aren't picked up, and you have to roll over the the "Twitter" link to see who said what. however, i prefer that to only hearing about one third of the conversation as twitter would prefer.
So is it live or pre recorded? Wiki page makes it sound prerecorded, but this makes it sound live.
gotta be prerecorded, we cant handle that many skype calls.
Ah, so we're using the ones that were written last night?
they were funny :)
I did like my Professor Marino Tessen and Bobby Cube, yes
not nececaraly...
but some of the characthers like Bravio and Stephanie De Monte Carlo were quite good!
Making fun of people we all know could be quite funny... Should the narater be Hurry Talker or Cake Chumpies?
Bobby cube is a bit to close to his name though... its more of a nick name...
Precisely - no computers or calculator - and still he came up with 22/7 as an approximation that he used. It's close enough for most day to day purposes I've found. But as most calculators now have a Pi button, there's no point using it.
If you want, you could use the American date and celebrate on March 14th at 1:59.26pm? ;)
Okay. I'll add them to the wiki.
damn. i like both of them.
One can be the narrator and one can appear in a sketch.
I think Cake Chumpy's Would be better.. Some crazy murray impression might make it difficult for the audience to know what is happening!
...or Fred Chav-itz?
Let's use both - because the number is 5 Pi's of Awesome ;)
How about the American date in 2015?
3/14/15 @ 9:26.53 am?
That's Professor Brian Cox's twitter. He of Horizon and of course the band D:Ream - of things can only get better fame
Have updated http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodmelodrama
what?
good lord, that's loads :)
If we are definitely using those, then I can pull out the characters and make a table for sign-ups too.
*Hearts the wiki*
*Applauds Mrs C*
go for it.
*hearts you*
users of the f1 iphone app should upgrade before the weekend.
jamie (eyeliner) superaguri has been added.
I have added a sections for ideas on a storyline and setting... more ideas needed though...
I guess we try to get as many sketches as possible then choose the funniest, and those which fit the best?
That is a great idea.
Analysis of Fuel Usage for the first half of the F1 season from my blog: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/hypermiling-at-200mph/
Turns out the F1 Yearbook figures are a little inaccurate and that F1 cars use more fuel this year than last year...
OK guys i am off...
WIll try to drop in on mobile doohic if i can tonight..
Alright, have fun whatever you do. Bye.
Did you guys know there is such a time as 9am on a Sunday? I don't recall seeing one ever.
Done.
We might even make the Wetpaint 500 at this rate.
his helmet looks awesome.
feel the looooove... :D
I see it pretty often. ;)
I have to see it this Sunday. This doesn't leave much time for sleep after the weights wait.
why can't I post on the AUTOSPORT forums? I'm new there... do I have to be a paid subscriber?
nope. i have no issues? although i haven't checked for a while.
Really, no really...
Katherine also thinks he's quite... refreshing on the eyes...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Cox_(physicist)
amazing. what a pop fact.
#sidepodspace
I am not here. Honest I am not. Seriously I am not really here. I don't care if you don't believe me I really am not here. Typical. Everytime I pop in to give the sidepodpeeps a message you start an argument.
Anyway the 3rd spacewalk of the shuttle mission started 25 minutes ago and is scheduled to last another 6 hours. NASA cheated by starting it hallf an hour early or I would have been on time for it.
:D
:D
If you're not here, how are you able to talk to us? ;)
:D hehehe
That friendfeed thing is very confusing... I like it but I'd like it to be less confusing :)
Just doing my betting for the weekend, Lewis is now paying out $9 for a win whereas Rubens has gone up to $13. Clearly Rubens is just biding his time this season so that I get a much bigger payout than I would have earlier.
Mr Race Debut is the favourite for first retirement. Poor Jimmy.
:D
agreed. has potential, but ultra geeky.
http://f1punter.com/2009/07/21/hungary-for-success/
bah, who needs stats and figures and histories when you bet wildly like some sort of optimistic fool with no regard for what is actually likely to happen :D
I don't have permission ... but I am a brand new member...
did you have to approve an email or something?
Already done :(
probably for your own good. most people on there are mentalists anyhow.
So not a good place to post a link to my blog then?
some how I missed the news that my mostest favouritest band ever are coming to Australia in November. Excuse me while I die of excitement.
I am still not here. Don't start that again.
Following on from my argument yesterday that one of the reasons people prefered last season is that Christine got to say dumbo flugel a lot and Pedalo because we had testing it stands to reason that if we came up with a few similar things now this season would get better. Noe I think Jimmy Superaguri is good start but we need more people so get thinking.
Also why if the Chinese invented horoscopes is there no panda constellation? Surely that hadn't figured out that long ago thatthe pandas couldn't care less whether they survived or not.
Panda's have horoscopes?
I can see in your future a lot of bamboo even though you could eat meet if you wanted to. And a failure to mate even though the Taurian near the rice paddy looks HOT!
*meat
hahahahahahehehehehohohoho
no
Fair enough ;)
Off to bed. Will skip this week's quiz - enjoy it! :D RG, updated the wiki table, BTW - I'm sure you'll find your way round it. ;)
Night. :)
Looks easy enough :) Night!
Evening ladies and gents.
Evening sir.
Just heard a great comment from Clay Shirky. I've just written my impression here my impression of way he said. This is not verbatim:
The Internet is more important than any previous form of media. All previous models print, recorded media (music, photos, etc), phone and tv/radio) required you to choose between either non-interactive one-to-many or interactive one-to-one. You couldn't do both. The Internet a) does both and b) incorporates all of the previous methods and c) allows a new dimension people you broadcast to to connect without you. Obvious but nicely explained.
In an attempt to cheer up Lukeh I have spent all day listening to Muse.
Well that's just awesome. And I'm alright today, glad my shifts from hell are over :D
you may think you're doing alright because your shifts are over but actually it is because I, Dr Giggles, prescribed myself a day of Muse.
I have listened to Super Massive Black Holes about 10 times.
Oddly what I've done is left the muse selection on random on all day - as people often disturb me at my desk I don't stop or pause just keep going. But weirdly people haven't seemed to disturb me while that song is on. Odd!
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/07/the_longest_solar_eclipse_of_t.html
For reference Uno is on now.
Perhaps they are scared to embrace such sounds that create such awesomocity. It's been scientifically researched y'know.*
*Research was me thinking they are awesome.
Respect to 4 pairs of sunglasses guy. Dedication right there. :P
:)
that is the kind of expert research they respect.
Map of the problematique has arrived now
:D:D:D
Now I'm nervous to mention this. But when I mentioned my day long muse fest to a co-worker they suggested that I should try Kasabian for a day and that this would be more likely to sort you out. I asked them, "who's the doctor of giggles around here?" But I am interested on what your response would have been.
Flip'n 'eck! It's Flip now.
I don't like them very much... whenever I see them they seem kind of stuck up for their own good. Although this coming from a fanatic of a band who's upcoming album consists of a 15 minute rock symphony that'll be undoubtedly ridiculous and brilliantly over the top so whether my opinion of other band's pompous attitudes is valid remains another question :)
I like a few of their songs... just not... them...
Ah it's interesting that we've all been talking about the eclipse because now all I can hear is Starlight. I think I've got
my wires crossed.
Evening guys. Did you see that Renault are doing factory tours on August 12th at Enstone?
even jake uses dock leaves
Mr C I'm having a really slow time adding comments on doohicky from iPhone.
does that method actually work?
Stingy nettles are just evil. They grow in awkward places on purpose just to annoy us humans
Really? All good on mine here.
What about The Kings of Leon
slow as in:
a) posting takes a while?
b) it's unresponsive?
c) you're not very good at typing?
I swear people just kick footballs there on purpose
yup... assuming you do it correctly ;)
Yeah they do work. Much better than using cheese, BTW...
I seem to be falling down when it comes to commenting (muse reference - I love this one)
The kings of bland? Meeeeeeh.
*hides from possibly attack from fans*
allegedly they have proven why it works.
"Your sacks are on fire"?
I didn't buy a ticket, but I saw them at the o2. Possibly the most dosapointing concert I've ever been to (and I've been to more than 300 and I didn't expect much).
Have heard the same thing concerning their gigs from a lot of friends.
I only like Sex on fire, use somebody and revelry off their latest album, but apart from that- meh.
it seems weird. It seems to take a really long time to decide it isn't going to get to SPC an give me the cancel button. And then I tried replying to another message while I was waiting and it old me I was posting too fast because nth went at the same time. Just seems weird. Maybe my signal isn't as strong as it's claiming athough it's reporting full bars and 3G
"your enjoyment is mired"
300?!?
I went to at least one gig a week between 1996 and 2002 um my maths is off right. And I started going to gigs in 95 and I still go to gigs these days but it's more like 10 to 20 a year rather than 50.
So it might well be 400+ but I was being conservitive.
easy to do if you live in the city.
although 400 is quite a few...
Most embaressing gig story. I went to see Olive them of the one hit wonder you're not alone. A friend got us backstage and I managed to walk back there and trying to be polite I walked up to a band member and said, "hi I really love you guys, great gig, you guys are at the begining of something massive." And the guy said, "yeah I'm not in the band, you want those guys over there." and they all burst out laughing. Had to spend the next hour with them.
I have been to one.
wow! I've only been to 1 :(
Although it was the best gig out of all the, er, gigs I've been to!
is - wenolongerheartalexforgoingouside.com available?
I realised I quoted earlier on that but I thought it said 30 gigs, until mr c poinetd out the whole three hundredness of it all :)
I like that you reckon 300 is okay but 400 is too much :)
i moved to London in 1996 and never looked back. Work and Katherine have slowed me down in recent years.
aw shucks! I knew it couldn't last ;)
please tell us who it was :)
i kind of figured i must've been in the 200's (just about) and therefore 300 was possible. 400 is basically double my total and therefore right out.
You ask a good question.
Urm... alex...
you know you listened you've had a muse day, where you listened to lots of songs? Well.. I dunno how to explain this for my own musical experiences today
if you think about how much you may have paid for your ticket... I used to got to Barfly, Bull and Gate, Water rats, Dublin castle and so on depending on the night you just had to buy beer to get in. These are the venues that Bowie, Nirvana and Coldplay had their first gigs. Only Coldplay of these I saw before they were signed - not that old!
Doves.
Ah so you used to go outside in the old days?
i used to go outside in the days BCB yup.
ah I've seen them. Supporting U2. With Athelete.
Why them?
Because I was told to.
Ah! I see. But I still go outside AKH an I lived in London. Maybe that does it.
400 is madness obviously.
Since the train moved commenting is working great. Phone obviously lying to me.
in fairness, i used to go outside more in the days BSPC.
phew!
Ah I see. An enjoyable experience?
Not a little bit.
And I would like to point out that I have seen some truly terrible bands over the years and some great ones that never made it.
Now wondering if I ever saw Mr C over the years.
Ah okay. Do you like Doves not live?
camden? very likely.
Erm, a couple of songs maybe.
You'd think you'd remember the guy in the panda suit.
yeah all over Camden almost every week at the Bull and Gate unsigned night and then plenty of others.
oh that's true :)
I don't know if this has been mentioned but the timing is stunning after last night's conversation. Renault are having an open day. Tickets are first come first served.
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/77126
It's a shame that for a man in a panda suit he didn't get signed by fierce panda. That's who got all the cool bands in my day.
hehehehe :)
damn. i'll never get mum to drive me all that way... sometimes i think i live too far south..
tweet from jonny noble:
"Amused by Easyjet captain who on landing at Budapest told plane full of Red Bull Racing personnel that weather looked good for Brawn."
:D :D
Tell her it is research for your radio show so you HAVE to go. Might work.
heheh. are you planning to go? £20 doesn't seem bad, but the last open day we attended (honda) was something of a shambles.
sidepodradio is before the renault thing though...
i'd like to go... but in reality a 2 1/2 hour drive isn't going to go down well with mum...
She doesn't know sidepodradio is a one off.
ahaha
That is an important lesson for life. In most situations people only know what you tell them about you and what you do.
You may only ever co-host a half hour quiz but hen it comes time to write a CV and make it seem more you will be one of only two people ever to co-host a quiz on sidepodradio or to host the sidepodpanel.
Spin is used for a reason.
I can make Christine click it. Pedalo is in the background
hahah!
why, out of interest? was that when monty tripped over a daisy?
Must have either been the tennis injury or when he was fired.
Monty was, in words at the time, "not fit on purpose".
I quoted the comments AUTOSPORT made about Todt in the comments last week. Thursday or Friday
you did? bugger. did i see them?
You expect me to remember what you read? I only do show titles.
:(
i need an assistant.
i thought you read all the comments now.. cause of the 'more' button? or had that not been implemented last week?
Maybe Giggles can fix it. Once all the transcripts are finished you are going to have to find work for a bunch of transcribers or put them put of work.
only since monday morning, have i been using it properly.
i hadn't thought of that...
ahh :) okay.
Yoda he is.
hopefully talking to joe shortly. yell if you has any questions.
Do Toyota have a chance of winning ever? Or if Timo wants to persue his career, should he leave for another team?
He should ru as fast as he can
You can't go volunteering people.
Clearly Christine has the story ideas so she should volunteer.
I did tons of stuff on the wiki today. I done my bit :)
So, this is both a shameless plug and a little bit #sidepodspace as well. The best kind of combination, I say.
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/07/22/bought-a-ticket-to-the-world/
A quick reminder, Pitlane Fanatic quiz starting in 35 seconds. Go now
we never volunteer people here do we ;)
:P
i'd love to but atm i'm stuck with installing a new printer cause my parents just went out a bought a new one today... even though i asked if i could come and make sure the stats and reviews for it were alright... grrr stupid parents knowing nothing about technology... grrr..
#sidepodgigs
I've seen Oasis twice, Ash, Garbage, Fur Patrol, Grace Jones and Nine Inch Nails. Oh and Stereogram...
Sorry, after watching 'From the Earth to the Moon' I'm now catching up on my toomuchracing - tonight it's MotoGP from Germany
You're too good with this plugging
What's your blog again? I'm Mr. Plugtastic tonight!
First quiz question is an Amy question
Oh, it happes to be the lovely The Northern Waffler
Stuffed cows hearts in roasting the oven - veg ready to steam
Time to catch up on the Now Show and ISIHAC
mmm... waffler... waffles... ice cream... I'm eating Ice cream! :D
oh my... this new printer has the smallest ink cartridges i have ever seen... i can just tell the ink is going to cost us a small fortune...
Well, it's here! :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-136
Blimey! That's big.
oooooh
This weeks spot the difference is evil...
It's not the size of the wheel, it's how you use it ;)
Scott, get rFactor installed - it's challenge time!
You know it's a 360 wheel, right?
Although it can be used as a PC wheel... ;) But my laptop could never run rFactor to the spec that it should be. :(
Yeah I guessed it was for the 360 but most work on the PC too don't they...
...And stop making excuses ;)
No really, rFactor won't run well on my laptop. The framerate would be absolute garbage.
I know, just pulling your leg!
You should stick to GTR Evo anyway, sounds like you're on a roll in that one!
You mean Race Pro. LOL.
Although I've noticed my laptimes are slower than they were when using a controller. :(
Surely it takes time to get used to it?
I'm sure in time you'll adjust and improve :)
Now, I'm about to get very excited with sometime I have just read.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76989
Eeeek.
Err... yeah that one.
You will be slower at first, but trust me, once you set up the wheel correctly and get into the groove you should be knocking chunks off your times...
It's not a proper rally until they revert to starting in the midlands, going to scotland, down to wales and back to the midlands again!
It does come with an AC adapter which must be for the axial feedback. Trouble is, I need a US to UK plug adapter. Need to stop off in Maplin tomorrow before work and nab one.
It was always crazy having the rally without Kielder
*turns on mic*
*taps*
HELLOOOO SIDEPODWORLD!
#sidepodspace
The astronauts are returning to the airlock to end today's spacewalk. They only managed to install two of the four batteries they were scheduled to istall so for the third time in three spacewalks this mission they have failed to complete their workload.
Did they lose their tools or are they just not very good?
What you should've been doing is wandering backstage looking for the stage door aimlessly shouting 'HELLO SIDEPODWORLD!!' ;)
oh and hey jon!
*puts on techie hat* you should never tap a microphone:P
*takes off techie hat*
Hey Jon!! :D how are you this evening?
hoooowdy
Hey!
im ok thanks, my dads back from a month trip to uganda, :D 7 hours in a car :( , M25 = Yawn :(
you shouldn't?
:D
nope... not stage mics anyways, not sure if there is a difference in studio and stage mics though
no you should instead say 'Four four four four'
Shh, it could be my few chances of seeing top class racing.
any idea why not? tis news to me (apparently a lot of things are).
how about "four to the floor"?
I wasn't paying much attention even though I have had had NASA TV on for most of it. The batteries weigh 367 pounds (170kg) on Earth and have loads of fins for cooling that have to be lined up absolutely perfectly to install. So they must be a sod to remove as well as install,
#sidepodspace update
In lieu of the 40th anniversary of the 1st Moon Landing last Monday, me and Mrs. Goat have been watching "From the Earth to the Moon". Tonight was the Apollo 11 episode, and I must admit I may have shed a little man tear at the end, it's such a good programme.
The missus loves it which is great because (a) she doesn't normally like what I like and (b) seems to dislike science and machinery. But she had a great big grin at the end of tonight's episode, which made me feel even better!
Do NOT tap the micrphone constantly then say that. I have a feeling you could get arrested... ;)
"Four on the floor" might be more relevant for us petrolheads ;)
because it gets drummers excited?
really? there's an f1/musical crossover?
Oh wait I just got it :D my mind will catch up in a minute
i assume it's the same reason you should never blow into a microphone... cause you can damage it. although i think it's mainly because the more you tap stage mics the greater the chances of it either falling off it's stand and breaking, or really really annoying the sound guys.
Well not F1 but relevant to cars. "Four on the floor" is a term for a four-speed gearbox in an American muscle car.
imagine if you had headphones turned up loud, then someone tapped the mic...that would hurt...
i know... that's happened to me once... it only ever happens once, then you learn your lesson to start the volume as quiet and make it louder... and also not to let little kids anywhere near the mics :D
It's all about rhythm
As mentioned in the song Greas'd Lightning m'lud.
understood. interesting.
cool. me approves.
it is?
How do you play the iPhone Ocarina then?
Yay! 100 people viewed my blog today!
you been doing a lot of pluggin' sir?
Well the line is "With a four speed on the floor they'll be waiting at the door"
The song then goes on to mention that owning the car may make the occupants more attractive to the opposite sex, but they usually cut that bit out when the film is shown on TV.
Plugging away like a plumber at a blocked sink convention!
good man ;)
i did not know this.
After events earlier in the week, I'm only more determined now!
have you considered google ads?
Me and Scott are doing a tad bit of Race Pro online racingness :o
you know he has a new wheel?
I have heard of it - would you mind explaining them to me?
Lukeh in about half an hour he's gonna kick your a...!
Do we need to educate you in the art form called musical theatre?
It took him a lap. :)
:D
It's my fault. I made him go see We Will Rock You five times with me and it broke him.
it's just advertising. you pay google money and they display your ad. every time someone clicks your ad, you pay whatever you agreed for the placement.
i think we have some f1 minute ads running at the moment. costs about £0.50 a day and sends people to the site. you can spend as much or as little as you like.
5 TIMES?!?
:D
:D
Yup.
it seemed like more.
awesome! i've seen it once and would love to go see it again!
Thanks, sounds interesting...
not a fan of queen?
Mmm, not so much anymore. The last time I saw it, it didn't live up to the others, and there are none of the original cast left.
I would, but they are doing it in Sunderland.
I wanna see thaaaaaaat. :(
oh...:( maybe i'll just leave the memory where it is then... i'll go see wicked a second time instead :D
you could achieve the same by putting hours of plugging in, but this is more cost effective.
Absolutely. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I recommend it. For anyone who has, I recommend reliving it in your head instead :)
you can live comment and drive?
Hey, remember I'm the one losing here
There might be a reason for that...
:D
That's about 4.5 times too many. That's not true, I did enjoy it, but the story is very contrived. The songs are great though.
It doesn't pretend to be anything else though. They couldn't fit Bohemian Rhapsody in so they shoved at the end. It's not about the story.
Evening all. I have internet back! How are we all?
When can you fit Bohemian Rhapsody into a story again?
Hey Chris, I'm fine.
sounds like a challenge for sidepodmelodrama.
night all, got a bit of a cold so I'll turn in early :(
Hmm... 3 seconds off Scott's pace at Brand Hatch in WTCC cars...
Brake later, power earlier
there endith my helpful hints ;)
via martin haven on twitter:

Ever tried, 'aggresive driving'? Works for me a treat.
Till I go too far and spin and crash and look like a total idiot.
Night Gavin.
night gavin, hi chris.
ollie doesn't have a radio show. what can we
makeask him to host?yeah do that, you'll go too far, but you'll find the limits quicker
Night all who are leaving
We need a Czech GP or a Czech winning driver and a terrible mix up with the anthem. Fitting Bohemian Rhapsody into a story. Easy.
I have tears in my eyes. Brilliant!
legend!
Marko Delokovikociciosokic
We had that last night
he can't get away without one.... i know someone who can help us out here...
....STEVEN!!!.... ;)
He has to have a show
I posted that here a week ago...
Good night - it's napping time!
we did? but i've read every comment :(
Umm, what does he like?
I knew I had seen it before but sidepodtime messes up my brain
ooh... dear...
You cannot have forgotten about that
Swimming in the Monaco harbour
i didn't see it. honest guv.
:D
ollie asked (on twitter), when the deadline for pre-recs.
it's a good question. i have no idea, anyone else?
I say Friday.
Hmm, i'd say Wednesday. Gives enough time for checking and possible editing?
You rang?
this friday?
hehehehehe :)
Of course not.
I think it should depend on what has to be done with them. If it is just store then play then they can be late but if you two have to take the pre-records and stitch them together into a melodrama then they should be earlier.
oops.
what's the date, the friday before?
Oooooooh. qualifying done. Now onto the race.
31st.
the 31st... so next friday?
how far behind are you?
i mean *Ahem* how far ahead are you?
I've just remembered that Mitch Benn used Bohemian Rhapsody in his Twitter gig spot last month. Transcript here, scroll down for Mr Benn:
http://twitter.tiernandouieb.co.uk/2009-06-08-gig.htm
Warning, some rude words and adult themed content on that page.
How about this for a story outline for all the sketches to fit round.
New team (Manor - Banner?) with help from Alan Donnelly build a great fist car thanks to Nick Wirth's CFD only design process and find mystery Czech driver no-one has ever heard of and turn up and win the first race followed by anthem mix up, diplomatic incident.
The Czech drivers name has to be difficult to pronounce.
Absolutely essential. We can have race commentary, interviews etc. Various discussions in the paddock about Donnelly and the legality of the car. Christine was absolutely right when she said a new team would be a great way to link the characters.
I propose:
Drahomír Pulkrábek
We started 4th (Scott) and 6th (myself). Scott won the race, I came 2nd :)
Well done sidepodcrew
wow, impressed :D
Out of a tack of 10, in which about... 6 finished after DQ's and people leading. Also the leader left the game mid race but Scott may deny this happened... :P
I only won because the guy who was leading quit on the last lap for some reason. At that point he was something like 10 seconds ahead. Still, a win's a win :P
*leaving, even.
Aww man, Curitiba is soooo much more awesome to drive! The wheel really helps you be nice and smooth through the long, flowing corners.
I ♥ Curitiba + my new wheel :D
I have just thought of an idea to get around Thursdays being rubbish
Rename it to Wednesday 2. or Wednesday +24, or something, like the TV programs, so it's Wednesday but 24 hours later... then when it's done, we can go to Friday and Thursday will have never existed. Simples!
Genius.
Not all Thursdays are rubbish. Thusrday Next for one.
what's happening?
Hehe. I meant Thursday Next
i have no idea what that is :(
tis the 30th July...
Hey thats my mums birthday!
...hey I need to get a present.
.......ah damnit.
:)
Sorry, I'm teasing now. Thursday Next is the name of a character in a series of books by Jasper Fforde. She's a literary detective. The books are great, they even come with their own "upgrades" on the web.
Hey all. I think you are being misled... Thursday is a great day!
It can be....but often...not so much
Sim racing news: Looks like PD have accidentally unveiled the Nurburgring GP circuit in GT PSP! There's a new trailer revealing more cars and tracks for the game and there's a shot which shows a Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R pulling out of pitboxes at the Nurburgring. But the Nordschleife, the only known version of the circuit, doesn't have any at all, so it must mean the GP circuit is included too! :D
Share, share, share.

Decided I don't like July, August or Sepetember anymore.
i'm hoping it will be, i have a 2 hour driving lesson tomorrow! (eeek!), i'm nervous, but in an excited 'i want to learn to drive' way :)
:D
What's all this dissing on Thursdays for?
I demand that Thursday's be treated like the rest of the week before they have us up before the EU on discrimination charges!
[Seriously, why the hate?]
Ah i'm sure it'll be just as awesome as it was last week, if not doubley awesome with 2 hours of it :)
just dont be too tough on yourself, it takes a while to learn to drive. i have a friend who was so annoyed at himself for not learning quick enough....so....i asked him how many hours he'd had...he said 4. boo at him.
just be patient, is all
Oh, and... evening all
Four!! I was annoyed at fourTY!
we had a lawyer friend email us and suggest we should stop wildly dissin' thursdays unless we had proof to back it up ;)
evening sire
Just remember how happy you were after your lesson last week.
You must get the most bestest emails ever
:D
I blame the internet. Before the internet Thursady was AUTOSPORT day and I got to find out what was happening in the racing world. The internet took that from me.
i'm really excited in a nervous way, i wish my lesson was now :D think of how much driving i can do in 2 hours! :)
I felt quite let down today when i realised it was out on a thursday not wednesday
steven makes a good point. I used to buy the Beano when I was young on a thursday. All that havoc with the bash street kids, oh and that gnasher always causing trouble with Dennis, oh what joyful times.
Now all thursday provides is emmerdale, rain and general non-beano related havoc of a negative nature. Boo to you thursday.
Although I wish lou all the best with her driving lessons, she should just ignore the whole 'thursday' aspect of thursday. ;)
evening :)
hehe yeah i know, am being very patient :D i just wish i could have lessons every day cause the first one was really fun. having said that i've probably just jinxed my second one :P
oops, I mean Wednesday +24.
Now Thursday can be the day you photoshop and Autosport/Beano mash up
This is why days off are awesome.
OooF1 drivers and their Beano equivalents. How about Kimi = Dennis the Menace and Felipe = Walter?
Hang on. You have lawyer friend?
I hope you mock him regularly, I believe it's obligatory worldwide
Who is Walter?
Mark Webber has to be Dennis the Menace, all the trouble he caused in Germany.
For the record, Thursdays are god because it's nearly Friday :)
we have a new lawyer friend. most concerned about us he is.
Walter the softy, Dennis' arch rival.
I never realised Yoda was a lawyer.
Oh
That doesn't sound good.
For you guys or your bank balances ;)
:)
:)
You mean Piquet?
ignore me, you missed the conversation when you were away i think.
I think the lawyer is more concerned than Mr or Mrs C.
It's not the beano but desperate dan has to be DC. I mean, that chin!
That I can believe
Can I plug the chance for everyone to contribute idea's and sketches to sidepodmellodrama? :) :)
Ah yes, that fits better. Kimi would have to be Danny from the Bash St Kids then. Rubens would have to be Wilfred and Kubica, Plug.
We have a name for a Czech dude
Drahomír Pulkrábek
he will win a race and they play the wrong national anthem
Also mr c. Mobile dohicky is being weird. There is a blue-green bar down the right 20pc of my screen
do you have a screen shot pls? is it chrome?
Gonna rest my eye, see yas all beyond the blue honda.
oh btw, next week im hosting the pf quiz, all questions based on 2005 or afterwards. tis the last one before the radio showy thingy and the summer break
Mobile Safari is fine

Night RG

I am going to do badly
i wonder if i can try and get back from london by 8.... probably not... :(
Its just the browser on my phone... Cant do a screenshot... Its an Inq1. It was fine on monday when I used it...
Where you off to Lou?
updated yesterday, but only with a minor style sheet change. will try and repeat.
am just going up to london in the afternoon with a few friends to go see Harry Potter at the IMAX :) just cause they want to see harry potter badly and i want to go to the IMAX really badly :).
IMAX rocks, don't sit too near the front
resist reaching out trying to touch the screen,
its not close.
you'll just look stupid
:) okay.
hahaha :D okay. i'll make a note not to reach out and try to touch the screen :)
Thanks mr c. :)
Where else on the Internet can you find this sort of advice? Another reason why I love SPC. :)
Why would anyone try to touch the screen unless it was a 3d film!?
I had mild vertigo the first time I went to an IMAX screening
It's quite imposing
i've never had vertigo before... should be fun :D
#sidepodspace update/
I have now found the reason for today's spacewalkers not doing everything on their list. The spacewalk was stopped half an hour early due to one of the spacewalkers having a high concentration of carbon dioxide in his suit.
I wonder if this is the old Apollo 13 problem of round plugs and square holes again.
I think it was Batman's fault. He was nose diving off of skyscrapers in Metropolis, I think my mind had the idea my body was following
[Parp]
As way of explanantion Christine add Apollo 13 to your film list.
That's methane. Different thing
It's because Clarkson nicked the filters for his experiments on Top Gear.
wow.. :D
I feel sorry for the guys on the last two spacewalks because that was a big box of rocks he had.
:D
OK time for bed - night all.
See ya Andy
wow... managed to do the impossible. Find a video from the start of the season on BBCF1's website navigation.
Night Andy
Do any of you Brits have ketchup with your F&C’s {Comment #106}
I have to admit not. If a plate of fish and chips doesn't taste good on its own, it's not going to work no matter how much vinegar, sauce or seasoning I pour on the concoction. If it does taste good, I want to taste the fish and chips, not the additional bits. You can safely infer from this that I don't season other meals either.
i’m not cooking her dinner! maybe a cake or something. not a meal though. {Comment #125}
If it was a raw dinner (i.e. one where no heat-generating devices were involved), would that be a possibility worth considering? Apparently there are some good raw meals around (other than salad, which is the obvious one).
there were a couple of bad calls around that period, i think the 9 disks containing half the internet came from them too. {Comment #301}
To be fair, that was because the McLaren head of PR got his numbers mixed up. Usually the head of PR for a team is considered a reasonably reliable source, so that error was understandable.
I also remember that it was possible to do what was claimed if PNG format was used for the stuff specified, but the fact that the information was stored on such an archaic format as floppies argues against that a little.
I think it's one of those things - when press people worry that the future of F1 is going down the tubes (or otherwise get very emotionally invested in a particular subject), they make more errors.
“Amused by Easyjet captain who on landing at Budapest told plane full of Red Bull Racing personnel that weather looked good for Brawn.” {Comment #524}
Not the most diplomatic welcome possible, but I suppose it is fair warning...
