Sidepodchat day dawns, but there's plenty to talk about before then. Things are all quiet on the F1 front, so here are some tasty links from around the blogosphere:

  • Dank takes a closer look at how the Red Bull mechanics work in his Anatomy of a pit-stop post. As Ollie points out in the comments, it's not only informative, but also a fun game of spot the difference.
  • Talking of Ollie, BlogF1 has a positive spin on things in The Future Looks Bright For Formula One. It makes a nice change to read something positive about F1, what with all the doom and gloom at the moment.
  • Meanwhile, Alianora has been looking into ownership in her post: F1 Racing, Perfume and Trademarks. Always a tricky subject, I wouldn't be surprised if Bernie got involved, just for fun.

That should keep you busy for this lovely Sunday. If you're interested in the Sidepodchat, then feel free to sign up on the wiki, or simply turn up in the comments later today. A post will appear when we're getting ready to go live. Until then, I'll see you in the comments.

GPM2 Update - Renault dominated the championship with Vettel champion and Kubica 2nd and the team claiming the constructors title. "2010" now sees Prodrive take the place of Honda, Super Aguri are still in the championship(?!) and the driver line-ups are as follows:

    Renault: Kubica and Vettel

    McLaren: Alonso and Hamilton (seriously!)

    Ferrari: Raikkonen and Massa

    BMW: Kovalainen and Klien

    Red Bull: Buemi and Kobayashi

    Toyota: Heidfeld and Glock

    Toro Rosso: Bourdais and Rahal

    Williams: Sato(!) and Nakajima

    Force India: Button and Rosberg

    Super Aguri: Fisichella and Wurz

    Prodrive: Sutil and d'Ambrosio

    Mornin all.

Scotty - I just love GPM2 because of the absolute randomness sometimes, Raikkonen once ended up with Toro Rosso, then I managed to bag him, before he left back to McLaren.

Hehe, it is good. Vettel just won at Sepang (badged as Jerez because that's the circuit it took the place of) with Hamilton and Alonso on the podium and Kubica 4th. Just nabbed a better rear wing from BMW since their security is crap! That's one thing I love - the top teams have the best security in the first season, then switch to the worst one afterwards! It's just soooo easy to take their better parts :D

  • RG22/02/2009 at 11:09

So is Sepang good, I've never actually tried it yet?

  • Scott Woodwiss22/02/2009 at 11:10

So is Sepang good, I’ve never actually tried it yet?

Yeah, it's very good. Hopefully the guys at GPM2 World will make more circuits. But for now, I'll accept Estoril taking the place of Bahrain. The layouts do look very similar :P

  • RG22/02/2009 at 11:14

Cool, will download it soon then. Never liked Jerez anyway, we could never qualify well or race well.

  • Scott Woodwiss22/02/2009 at 11:16

My cars are consistenly qualifying on the first two rows at every race. Not always like that at the finish of the race but it's nice when we pull off a 1-2.

  • Scott Woodwiss22/02/2009 at 11:16

We just demolished everyone in qualifying for Barcelona. Both my guys did 1'12s, 3rd placed Bourdais only did 1'15! :D

  • Scott Woodwiss22/02/2009 at 11:17

    And a 1-2 as well :D

Aye, usually we get one guy on the podium and the other either low down in the points or out of it completley. I think the best result I've got is a 1-4

  • Scott Woodwiss22/02/2009 at 11:18

And it's now official - the Renault is the best car on the grid :D

    Meanwhile, Alianora has been looking into ownership in her post: F1 Racing, Perfume and Trademarks. Always a tricky subject, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bernie got involved, just for fun. {Original entry}

Since Bernie owned Formula One Licensing (FOL) at the time it opposed F1 Racing Enterprise, you could say he already has. I believe FOL is the upteemth Bernie company now in CVC's F1 portfolio, but that happened at the same time as CVC hoovered up the other Bernie companies, post-dating FOL losing its case against F1 Racing Enterprise by two years. I probably should have mentioned that in the entry...

Keep dreaming, GPM2! Still, I think I'll give this game another go when I've reinstalled my computer (I'm getting a hard drive to replace my failed secondary hard drive and it seems like a good time to reinstall, if only to get all my Sims 2 files in sequence to improve its speed).

Morning all, i have to tell you about my dream last night, it was positivily odd.....'me' and Christine were coming over to my house (dont know why), they arrived in a Vauxhall vx220 then we ended up going to a park that i didnt recognise, where there was a cafe which did mcflurrys and fish and chips...but it wasnt a McDonald...how odd....

However, and this is a very BIG however....i took some prescription sleeping tablets that give you one hell of a hangover in the morning, so im guessing i was pretty drugged up last night!!! hahah

Honda turn down £100m from Uncle Bernie

(yes, The News of the World!)

I tried to help with the management buy-out. They should have taken what I offered. It was a very good offer for everybody concerned. It gave them complete protection but they wanted to do things on their own. Now all we can do is hope and pray!

If we lost a McLaren or Ferrari or somebody like BMW, people would wonder what’s going on. But I don’t think that will be the case with Honda. They didn’t do too much last year, did they?

As long as you have a full backup of everything before trying anything then thats good. :)

First thing to try is purely to wipe the machine clean and reinstall from scratch. If it still fails after that, most likely to be a hardware issue.

    GBR FL! :D

WTF!? team GBR has the fastest lap? How did he do that?

  • Christine22/02/2009 at 13:45

    -Car Stalls

    -Mechanics push car into pitlane

-Mechanics block pitlane for other cars

    -Car catches on fire

  • Flibster22/02/2009 at 13:48

'Want a new way to spice up the racing? Had a bad season and want to get rid of the car quickly and without effort? Well, try the new Autolighter, guaranteed to set off a spark in your dark days of motorsport!'

I didn't think he was that bad at Jordan - but the fact that he has F1 xperience and he can't compete here shows a lot though.

GB 2 second a lap slower than anyone around him... Yay!

If you need a cartridge - buy online - massively cheaper.

May well be better to get a new printer. I went from a Epson Stylus 13 job to an A3 colour laser - sold the Epson and bought the laser for about £50 on top. :D

  • Christine22/02/2009 at 14:16

Surely printer cartridges are cheaper?! :S

    You would think.

  • Andy Taylor22/02/2009 at 14:17

No, printer cartridges are like razor blades. The printer is sometimes cheaper than a set of new cartridges.

  • lou22/02/2009 at 14:17

the number of ink cartridges we go through i wouldn't be surprised if it was cheaper to buy a new printer :P

Switzerland is home to Neel Jani, Sebastian Buemi, and numerous other F1 drivers who call it their tax haven.

And yet their Parliament wants no part of motor racing. Quite silly, really.

  • Flibster22/02/2009 at 14:18

Interesting - if medals were used instead of points - Portugal would be leading the championship. As it's done on points, then if there's a tie, the medals decide it, the Swiss lead.

Me and Joe were just discussing this whole Bernie-Honda thing that the News of the World 'revealed'. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the article started something like this:

'Formula One supreme Bernie Ecclestone SENSATIONALLY reaveled today that Honda bosses refused his own buyout of the team for a massive £100m. Ecclestone's publicist exclusively told the NOTW that Honda:

*PLEADED with Bernie to buyout the team for more money until they

*REFUSED to talk to Ecclestone in person due to the teams pullout from the sport

*SHOUTED at the Formula 1 boss for the plans he had if he bought the team

*IGNORED any actual attempts from other buyers for any kind of buyout

and then 2 pages of sheer crap. It's the News of the World template. Pinch of salt etc.

  • Joe22/02/2009 at 17:59

Yay. The smileys are properly viewable now :D

  • me22/02/2009 at 17:59

  • me22/02/2009 at 18:10

    ish.

  • Dom22/02/2009 at 18:10

    ish.

    Ah, of course.

  • Steven Roy22/02/2009 at 18:12

It is funny to watch the delay in new posts appearing in the lclt or the doohickey. I have both plus a few other tabs open on other things. Switching to a different tab you see the new post appear on the lclt then the doohickey.

  • Lukeh22/02/2009 at 18:12

Which commenting system be ye be using?

I was on the doohickey, didnt realise you were on about the lclt. my bad :P

James Allen speculates as to why Honda told Bernie to go away: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/02/22/why-did-honda-turn-bernie-down/

In a 'why didn't we think of that!' moment... could Bernie's interest in Honda be down to him wanting in at future FOTA meetings?
