It is the longest day, today, the height of summer. It will also be a very long day for our guys out on track, and no doubt for us as well. Also, from here on in, the dark days of winter will be drawing in and it feels that way for Formula 1 as a whole as well, doesn't it? Phew, that was quite the metaphor. Here's some F1 goings on:
- BMW have officially abandoned KERS on their car for this season. Which is odd considering they are the only team who have been "bigging it up" within the regulations side of things. The return of KERS to the car has been delayed and delayed and now it is gone forever.
- Nakajima is starting the race today from a career best position of fifth - which is notably above his teammate for the first time. A lot is made of Alonso's dominance over Piquet but so far Rosberg has enjoyed the same teammate comparison statistics - not anymore.
- Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed completely that Silverstone will make a return if Donington fails to deliver. Which means that Silverstone will make a return. A lot of people said this as soon as the announcement was made, so does Bernie really think he is still fooling people?
That'll do it for now. Join us for live commenting during the race, beforehand for the Parade Lap and afterwards for the live stream of F1 Debrief. It's all go on a race weekend Sunday! I'll see you in the comments.
Just to double check, what time will you be calling/would you like me to call on the Parade Lap? :P
that would be ace, if possible. do you want to mail christine your number?
parade lap is 11:10 to 12:10.
OK, no problem :)
I look forward to speaking to yous all then! :D
likewise. now sleep!
The Longest Day! Also a good war film.
I like how the longest day falls on a Sunday this year. I don't like the mention of 'dark winter'. It is June. That evil thing doesn't occur until November. As far as I'm concerned it remains Unmentionable until it is upon us.
Yes, sleep now. Sleep good. Night (again) :P
Eurosport commentary legend Martin Haven has invented Speed Pool.
It is like normal pool with two crucial differences:
http://martinhaven.wordpress.com/2009/06/21/because-youre-worth-it/
"and here the true master-stroke is applied..."
awesome!
Le Mans in the 60's looks amazing!
I kinda want to go in a weird way
You can't go to the 60s
...Yet ;)
Does anyone know offhand what time the race coverage starts tomorrow.
I've decided against that blog post. Not into writing anything tonight, plus it might get lost given the amount of stuff to be generated tomorrow..
in the UK the bbc starts at 12:10
Never. Time travel ain't ever gonna be possible
BBC 12.10.
SPC Parade Lap 11.10
Cheers! What be this parade lap??
If you're not working, come here at 11.10 and listen live.
It is a live show on sidepodcast. A bit of music, chat, the odd voicemail and phone call etc. It never lasts long enough though
bah, the radio I was listening to has stopped playing nice songs I've never heard before and is now talking to someone about them. It is nearly 1am on a Sunday morning, I do not want to hear talking.
ah... but how do I know you're not from the future, having travelled back in time to try and discourage me from inventing it?
Previous Parade Laps can be found at http://www.sidepodcast.com/category/parade-lap/
Because if I was from the future and had time travel Bernie and Max would have met with a little accident a decade or 5 ago
Just posted on my blog about fuel weights for F1 British GP Qualifying:
http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2009/06/21/is-that-fuel-weight-in-pounds-or-kilos/
Enjoy ;)
Do you still think Webber is a better qualifier than Vettel?
You raise a valid point.
Although my suspicions will continue to linger in a tiny voice at the back of my head...
Honestly don't know yet - I will look at it from fuel-corrected perspective when I do.
I've spent the evening figuring out this damn EeeeeeeeeeePC and OpenOffice.
Please note that 'smaller' (the PC) or 'free-er' (Open Office) DO NOT necessarily mean 'better' :(
wassup sir? we loves our to bits.
Is Open Office not worth the bother then, specifically Excel?
err "their Excel equivalent"
In my experience it depends how heavily you use the product, its much harder to change on programmes you use a lot, as its almost second nature. Changing on programmes you still need to think about to use is a little easier...
It's a bit hard to type on and and the screen is too small for the doo hickey to work with two panes.
It is OK but it's not as good - it's more tricky to use, not as flexible or fast. not great with importing graph styles or macros either:(
I mean LCLT, sorry :(
ah yeah, the keys are in all the wrong places.
was running doohickey fullscreen on friday and it worked a treat.
ahh, yeah. haven't tried that.
Try the fact that it's also a Danish keyboard and it's double trouble.
I bought it cheap so I can blog and comment from the train and also sit with the wife and use it. We tried calling the parents on Skype and they just whinged about the call quality so we ended up going back to the big PC.
Open Office can't do what I want it to do and I still have to use Excel. Boo.
i'm off to get some sleep before the race :) night all! x
Night Lou.
I am sure you will enjoy the race more than quali
hehe i hope so :)
Basically the EeeePC is a fail so far - but the missus thinks it's cute so she can have it...
Night Lou!
we replaced whatever os was installed by default with this:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook
call quality is pretty good for us (check out alex tomorrow on the parade lap, because he'll be coming though that).
don't use any office apps though, sorry. have you considered google docs / google spreadsheet?
Ah right. Maybe I'll skip that then.
Did we see Jake's blog post about the laps with Jenson and Lewis?
"The girl" with Jenson appears to have been Christine Bleakely off The One Show.
that's a shame, because it was a massive win in the grandstands 'stone. and it handled itself really well at autosport international too.
i guess it's more of an internet thing, rather than a productivity machine.
Trying it now...
Anyhow, Night everyone, enjoy the race tomorrow, good luck with the shows :D
Night.
see ya.
Sadly Google docs doesn't fit the bill either. Didn't import my graphs and the ones it offers are too simplistic.
Night all ...
Good night Gavin
night g.
Night Gavin
Night
Note to self:
Add Wiki entry in the morning - Mr C blamed himself in 20th June Daily thread. Poetically: Steven Roy witnessed it
Web-based has a way to go before it matches the functionalities.
Google Docs is aimed at sharing stuff rather than in-depth stuff, I reckon.
Note for Christine:
Please read posts from last night regarding a female panel/podchat
[Approx 01:30 20th June Thread]
I think I will print and frame this
why... you... dirty...
Note for Christine:
The convo is only still in the 20th thread because it is a continuation and it was easier to leave it there than move chunks of it.
If there is an all female podpanel will this mean a return of the panda suit? Mr C will need to show the score board. Of course we will have the numbers guy doing the counting.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/not-steven-roy-s-fault-jpg
:D
:D
i am never standing next to that light in that suit again. i was a walking pyrotechnic.
I wonder how often I can make use of this
So how are you going to do the scoreboard?
Until it gets accidentally deleted ;)
From off-camera, I would guess
FBFB?
or.. hold up a digital scoreboard.
Yay!
blimey. yeah ok. at least if it means i don't go the way of a spinal tap drummer.
Interesting.
Save the Panda suit for Sidepod Meet-ups, makes good conversation in the pub ;)
Looks like you have a deadline to get it working
I'm thinking the panel series is a way off yet? Time to work on it? Assuming you aren't as crazy busy on the off-weekends as you are on the on-weekends...
After Top Gear ends was the idea, roughly. Which will be about 7 weeks away at the earliest
couple of months i believe. next few weeks are homepage redesign work. and then we'll see where we're at.
on the list is the desktop app and an iphone app. fbfb should be ahead of both of those in the queue methinks.
sidepodspace update
Just found out that the lunar mission we saw launch a couple of days ago is supposed to arrive at the moon at 5:43am EDT/ 10:43am UK. I can't imagine there will be anything to see but I will read up on the mission before then. The first bit that is due to impact the moon is meant to kick up plumes of dust and stuff 6 miles into the air but I don't think it will look as spectacular as it sounds.
We have another launch later in the week. The GOES-O weather satellite is launching on June 26th. The launch window opens at 6:14pm EDT / 11:14pm UK and closes exactly an hour later.
Speaking of iPhone app, how's the F1 iPhone app going? Is it worth downloading before the race? :D
Morning, by the way. ;)
Iphone app? yay
:D Will download that at the first possible opportunity. ;)
love it, love it, love it.
it's a bit jumpy in terms of car position. but if you read back though the live comments, you can see at the end of q3, all of the people with the iphone app could see webber's lap unfolding and kimi blocking him whereas the tv never showed it.
webber confirmed what happened once it was over, but we had it covered in the comments way before then.
it's worth every penny to me and i'll be buying a season pass on monday.
How much is that?
20 pounds, I think. Will buy it today, then. :D
Did Kimi get a slap? I'm completly out of the loop this weekend I feel
£14.99 for the remainder of the races, or £2.99 per race.
OK, not as bad as I thought then. Might trial it next race.
don't think so. i am without qualifying digest today, which usually means i don't have to read every press release.
So will that be neary 30 quid for next years season then?
Expensive for the app store but the way it seems to be heading I fear
Poor Mark. He is light so will need a good start.
The curse strikes again
I think they originally announced £20 for an entire season.
You mean Kimi, right? ;)
that's true, if you don't already own the app, and buy the season pass at the same time.
next years pricing is anyone's guess.
Hehe.
I am convinced Webber is cursed and will never win a race.
Oooooh... Will do exactly that then. If I can figure it out... Got so confused last time. :( Is there a different page for the season pass?
Never mind - found it. :D
yeah, i'd link to it, but i only have the link to the uk itunes store.
Is there a web page with this info, or is it all through the app store?
http://www.softpauer.com/f1app/index.html
and
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/09/theres-an-official-formula-1-iphone-app-and-it-rocks/
You can search for Softpauer in your local iTunes store - it should come out.
Ta !
They said they'll release an update for OS 3.0. I wonder how they'll release the update - probably from within the app?
BTW, Mr C, when you release the SPC iPhone app, I hope it's downloadable from outside the UK. ;)
i downloaded the 1.1 update and it fixed the issue i had opening the app.
i also have the option to purchase new races / season pass from within the app.
isn't everything we do?
we don't believe in geo-locking anything. ever.
So. $37 for the season here, or $6 for the app. Interesting
Yay! :D I'm just concerned that if you release it through the iTunes Store, it might become UK-only. Would you be able to release it to all iTunes stores? Or better yet, will it be directly downloadable from here?
App now downloaded; will use the quali replay to play around with the app...
Can't direct download to the iphone
has to be from itunes, we can't host it ourselves.
from what i can tell it's easier to say available in "every store", than it is to say "only in x, y and z" stores.
good man.
i must sleep. please yell in the morrow, if you have any issues with it, but it's pretty striaghtfoward to use.
Ooooh... very good. Happy happy. :)
will do. thanks you!
Night
It would be cool if there was a way to fast-forward a replay. For the future. ;)
Is the Aside with Joe not happening this weekend?
I don't think it has happened yet but they may find a way to do it yet.
Heading off to bed, before I go, has anyone seen that Fake Jarno Trulli name checked Christine & 'Felipe Baby'
He did? Ooooh... *goes off to check*
WIN!
Eurgh, why am I awake at 4am? Thought I was gonna sleep right through....
Tsk tsk... Something waking you up at night?
I dunno. Not that I can think of. My bf is still well asleep..... I've just always had odd sleeping patterns I think
Heh. It happens to everyone here - some more deliberately than others. Maybe you should just need to empty your head of thoughts? Or you need a comfier pillow. :D
Hmmm I've probably been kicked or something..... He's getting the blame at any rate. Might watch a film now I'm up.
Lol I'm just looking at houses for rent atm. Do you think that "great motorway connections" is just another way of saying noisy??
Greetings from Tot Hill Service station! I'm about half way between home and Silverstone, so we stopped for breakfast and petrol. Should be a good day. As long as I remember, I'm going to leave a voicemail from the track after the race.
While I remember, do I have to manually refresh the mobile dohickey? It doesn't seem to update. Then again, this is the first time I've used it and moat people are asleep!
Morning peeps. Got breakfast in about 20 mins so just checking in with you guys :)
Here's the aero update for the RB5 in detail:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQpTtCHuH94
From what I can assess, there's the new nose (obviously), some kind from chimney exit from the engine cover, sculpted rear wing endplates instead of straight ones and a wider DDD.
I like that its your longest day, meaning its my shortest day, meaning summer is coming back :D
On a bus to the circuit. How are we all then?
Hi Chris, yay for live updates :)
Re. the mobile commenting - it doesn't refresh yet because it was happening in the middle of typing a comment which screwed things up a bit. So it's been disabled but naturally we're working on fixing it.
How's the weather holding up?
Well folks I'm calling it a day. Sunday's going to a long day it's Father's Day here and I'm taking my dad to the Italian/French auto show (hope to get some pictures) and there a couple of birthdays to celebrate today as well, so I won't be around, sorry I'm not as hardcore as some of you are:), to catch the Parade Lap,the race or the Debrief so have a great day everybody and GO VETTEL
Have a great day Aitch, and don't forget, replays are always available on Sideopdcast :)
Morining Everyone... I won the lottery last night... Well £10...
So biscuits are on me :)
hooray!
Ooooooh, winner!
Morning all can't wait for the race and parade lap!!!!
Red Bull 1 - 2 on the podium!!
I am going to win $50,000,000. Unless of course our draw is rigged like your one was.
I still can't get over the injustice of it.
Did you not tell them it was your birthday?
Hmm, no I didn't. Perhaps that was what I missed.
good morning
morning
Now on the way to the circuit. My plan for today is going to be fan interviews, driver signings, simulator at Santander stand, get some merchandise and the race. Regarding the interviews, all those from SPC who are going today - do you fancy meeting up to be interviewed for my Puma fan report? :)
i'd love to see it:) morning all!
Morning
Have a great day Scott. Pity I can't be there to steal your access pass ;)
I think I need to start moving in the track direction, I hope it will be a bit warmer and less windy than last 2 days :-)
F1Wolf
Whats your twitter name?
Hey wolf, do you want to meet up and be interviewed for my fan report? :)
F1Wolf :-) I will be tweeiting, but somehow my twit application stopped working properly on my iPhone. so I can send updates via text, but can't see replies while I am on track
yep, would be fun, I think your Puma guide has my phone number
Hey mine is LCLADM and I have just started following you!
morning all !
just seen this on twitter...from jake humphrey
"By the way, set your alarms for 12.10...the VT boys have a nice little surprise for you to open the show..."
woo :)
Better not run late with Parade Lap then!
Whats jakes twitter id?
I've also started following F1Wolf on there...bimblelass...is my twitter name btw
Absolutely! They have been doing some really great opening VTs and they haven't once had Eddie Jordan in them :)
jakehumphreyf1
thanks
Awesome, I'll ask Tim. If not, could you e-mail it to me?:)
OK, I am out of here, have to make the move :-)
not sure i have your email
Red Bull have managed to save a 'whopping' 70 grams of weight from both cars this weekend.
How? By removing the embroidery from both Webber's and Vettel's race suits, that's how! Have a look this afternoon and you'll see that the logos and other features are painted on now.
I'll DM it to you on Twitter.
great work. but maybe it'S more about cost than weight. otherwise we'd have them shaving their heads and things right?
what does VT stand for (in prev comments)?
videotape
I didn't think he was that bad on yesterday's programme though. In the feature he was in, he almost seemed like a normal human being.
I just wish he wouldn't go on (and on and on and on) every second sentence about how everything relates to his days running Jordan.
Video Tape but i means basically a bit of film on a tv show
I hope Coulthard is up for a grid walk again
They use the same race suits throughout the course of the year. It's a weight issue.
And also, Webber will have a screw removed from the pin in his leg during the summer break as it wasn't correctly inserted to begin with and has been causing him all manner of grief all season.
He was better yesterday. And DC is more on top of him now.
And do these long subclauses in his questions. When he was interviewing Bernie he started asking a question, then threw in about 3 sentences about Silverstone which clearly he'd been told not to talk about because Jake was going to to that bit, and then told Bernie to ignore that bit and then finished the question.
He's kinda bumbling too. Which was fine for the first couple of shows, but I thought it would have improved by now.
Also, I never realised what a cool word bumbling was before.
Poor poor Jake dealing with those 2 squabbling!
right up there with "filibuster"
Does anyone have F1Wolf's e-mail?
and was shown up big time by Gascoine
And didgeridoo.
I just don't get what the point of him is. I don't think I've ever heard him give great insights into anything, he doesn't have any specialist knowledge to bring to the table (well none that I'm interested in) and as you've said he's not so good on the presenting/interviewing side of it either....
I just meant that he didn't do anything yesterday that actively annoyed me, which was a pleasant surprise!
His website says:
f1wolf [at] f1wolf dot com
ta.
And bumbershoot.
Want to see Bumbershoot used in a sentence: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/12-01-04.html
Want to know more about bumbershoots?
http://www.gamboling.co.uk/13-01-04.html
If both references are your own, does that mean you made it up? ;)
and what on earth is gamboling?
Could be... I don't think so... But the phrase "bumbling with his bumbershoot" even though I wrote it back in 2004 suddenly came drifting back to me.
It is my non-formula1 website :)
Phew I didn't make it up:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bumbershoot
Oh! you're that author.
How do I get a signed copy of "th book"?
Brandon on 5L about the FIA/FOTA war.
Haha is there really any need for another word for umbrella?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/fivelive/
avail for international people.
who is brandon?
Branson*
In Sidepodcast Towers we quite often say umberjolly. But I know that one is made up.
i thought it might have been him. was wondering if there was someone new in the scene i had no idea about (would not be the first time)
Well it used to be called a Hanway. The word Umbrella, when you think about it, is quite a strange one.
..won't be sponsoring brawn next year. they did mention about sponsoring a smaller team and doing it all again
Bet he wishes he'd gotton in there with a lengthy contract before everyone noticed they were actually pretty good....
hehe concert add on tv: the proclaimers and the B-52s.
Talk about 80s revival
he called his brawn mini deal a "gesture" or "contribution" - i forget the exact word but the he was never really suggesting it was a real long term deal. but hey, he'd be disappointed, but he makes shrewd investments so would anyone have wanted to sign a long deal with a company that really looked like it was probably going to be putting a car on the grid that might not finish. credit to brawn - best value for money i've seen in F1 in some time.
A signed copy... Hmmm... That's a bit more tricky.
If you were to go and pay £15 over here I'll send you a signed copy.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6283843
I'll send you an email. your address on that blog?
I know that. I just mean that this is one of the rare occasions when he could have been shrewder!
I can't get over how amazing he is as a business man. I just think about virgin music stores which he sold on for a fortune. 9 months later they're bankrupt.....
Not supporting F1 right now seems pretty shrewd
Lol fairplay
Morning all...
Shrews>? Oops, forgot I stopped trying to be funny ;)
i didn't know that. i'm living in a box sometimes ;) we had a business guy (packer) in australia sold a tv network for maybe a billion (?) and then bought it back a few years later for half the price. smart :)
I think he had the option to invest in the team as well.
Its a shame he wont be the title sponsor, hopefully brawn will find something at somepoint
bernie has "no idea or when" the row will be resolved (5live)
talks are ongoing.
That's the one.
I don't think he was ever going to be to be honest. He doesn't do advertising really. He does stunts that get him in the papers for next to nothing.
It would cost a lot of real money to run an F1 team. Just ask Vijay Mallia. He's having to be in the FIA because he doesn't have the ready cash for running his team. He's borrowed on the basis of being in F1.
how is the silverstone weather looking?
I am making pastry treats. Hope they're done in time for parade lap.
silverstoney
Ture, but he does blow cash on stuff he finds interesting. I seem to remember him saying that he knows virgin Galactic wont make a profit for 20 years, and then only if it is very lucky.
I don't know about Vijay, the way he throws money around at his IPL franchise he doesn't look too broke!
:-)
Grey? like a grey stone, but quite bright so it looks silvery? like a silvery stone?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/5000?count=10
Thanks Alison, you're on the ball
how do add images to this livecommenting?
That helps the Red Bulls, although that new care might tear up the tires making them 3 stop...
Sir Striling was on the Andrew Marr show earlier talking from Silverstone anbd it looked very very cloudy and dull.
I don't know why he's so heavily fueled. Won't that add extra pressure to the tyres in the first stint? I'm new to this whole business but it seems odd for them to split the strategies for their drivers so wildly again. It's like their trying to cause a rift.
I think the idea was to have Webber on pole, then give vettel the chance to catch on strategy.
Didn't quite work out.
I am trying to share a image but I just get a error "File Must be of correct type", I have tried .jpg and .png both under 4 mb
It might just be personal preference, fear of the safety car, or Christian Honer has nightmares about them hitting each other. *he may fear that Vet might get stuck behind Webber, and he isn't the worlds best overtaker (sorry Alex)
why not drop.io it?
I was having this yesterday but I closed and reopened the doohickey and it was fine.
He is; clicking the share image button on a new message on the doohickey uploads an image to drop.io
Gotcha. Didn't see that button
me neither, saves me doing a dance round to the drop!
My line up, as weird as it will appear to be is as follows:
Nakajima 1st
Webber 2nd
Hamilton 3rd
Vettel 4th
Button 5th
Rosberg 6th
Massa 7th
Trulli 8th
Basically a rehash of Melbourne.
If Nakajima wins I'm giving up on F1!
hooray, tarts are done. Now I don't have to leave my room until morning.
I think you're dreaming in Nakajima and Hamilton are podium bound.
I can see it all happening bar Lewham in third. Unless he gets to do one less lap because he world champion and this is his home race....
I can't see Hamilton in the top 10. My only hope is that Heikki boy this weekend
You're a good man, Mr Paul.
hehe, i love barricading my self in for the night,....
although food and bed are a big risk...
Hehe. THought you might like that.
Time to step up Heikki !
he might be good, but how realistic is he? Amy - where do you think your boy will come?
So we're all ready to criticise predictions, but who else has got some for us to agree/disagree with?
He'll probably DNF. Or come 12th.
I've got a feeling Barrichello and vettel will hit each other early on the first lap...
Speaking of Heikki though, I loved this line in the post-qualy press release:
"It’s a pity that Lewis couldn’t improve on his time due to the red flag in the first session as I’m sure he would have joined me in Q2 as well."
If Lewis had improved Heikki would have been 16th and not in Q2. He wouldn't be "joining" him at all.
I'm only predicting top 10.
Otherwise its:
1.Vettel
2. Webber
3. Jensen (sorry Rubens :-( )
I want to see Rubens or Webber win because I want a different winner. Someone who hasn't won in 5 years or someone who hasn't won at all would be perfect.
hehe, oops.... He maybe he is trying to look like the supportive number 2?
well picked up :) you're on the ball. not fast enough for the script, but still on fire...
webber can't win (cursed)
as an aussie who has seen webber on tv for 10 years working his way up, this could be a chance, but i'd be backing vettel - i think he's a better driver and is in a better start position (at least for the first lap).
Nooooooooo
:(
I tweeted at the exact same time you posted on here :P
Buemi?
yes I can't see Webber beating Vettel unless Seb or his car do something dumb. It's hard to look past Seb on pole + running longer
Bernie said he was underrated at the last race.
That guarantees him a win in the next 5
boooo I just got jam in my bed. Stupid tarts.
;) he he. i think i'll write a script to strip out the text from a pdf, and post the amended start grid...alternatively, i won't bother. i'll be in france for the next gp and i'm not complaining,..
I warned ya!
just make sure your flatmate doesn't pull out the cable for the tv. that's more important than jam. you need a picnic tablecloth to put on your bed for these moments.
the next gp is so...far....away.....
I can't wait for the 3 weeks of politics to fill the gap. Or not.
Why you going to France?
Um. I'm just not going there
I've gone completely off Mark Webber since the last race. He was really snidey in some of his interviews. I'd be very happy if the podium finished the way qualy did. Although part of me is still rooting for Jenson to pull something out the bag.
its ok, its more on than in because I'm sitting on the duvet cover. Which I was going to wash tomorrow anyway.
You almost had me convinced that breakfast in bed was plausable if you are careful... not any more! :D
I once fell asleep in bed eating chocolate. Waking up in the morning made for worrying viewing :(
Yeah it's not often i think about the next gp, but I tend to organise my trips around F1 ;) I'm off to bologna (4 hours south) AFTER todays race, then back here for 3 days of meetings, then to suburbs of paris for seeing friends before a work conference in Rennes. should be lots of fun, but i have so much to organise today before all my meetings/trips start.
Ahh, Europe. I'm so jealous of everyone not living on an island in the middle of nowhere.
just to clarify. the next GP is not in France ;)
Q: Is there going to be a aside with joe this weekend
Germany, no?
Whoo, just sent the family down to Cornwall for 3 days! A stroke of Genius... I am free again! (until Tuesday)
I haven't done enough travelling. I have a few months left and going to try to make up for it, if the work schedule allows. or i might just resign from work a month early, and go wandering
yep.
It's looking less and less likely, but we will have to see.
At the great Nurburgring.
Mornin all
ok thanks I find that cast really funny
morning RG.
Amy, I feel you there - but at least now I live on a continent that has a Grand Prix - I can never go back home to the states now!
Hi all, besides!
i move there in a few months. Kind of hoping the breakaway brings a race to north america, if only for the timezone issues ;) where are you now Dap?
Some might have issue with that!
Morning!
Japan, though I don't think I'll make it to Suzuka this year. I'm all for another Grand Prix of Long Beach! Formative memories made there.
i love suzuka
Long Beach?!
Don't feel bad about not going to a home race. I think I'll be moving from here about one week before the italian grand prix. otherwise, i hope to be there.
Well it was past USGP West by my time, but it was my introduction to open-wheel racing some 20 years ago. Suzuka in 2006 was a great GP to go to, I have to say
Morning.
Can someone wheel me in the direction of coffee?
Why was there no investigation of Kimi's quali slow-down?
Morning all :)
When does the parade lap thread start
Morning everyone :)
Because he doesn't care enough to bother cheating?
I dunno, I was wondering that earlier
Mornin Gavin and Alex.
If it was last year.....
Maybe the FIA doesn't care anymore
maybe they had better things to do yesterday - there seems to be some other non racing things....
morning to the recent arrivals.
Now
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/21/live-i-want-a-bigger-bibendum/
;)
Hey everyone, im off to the cricket, have a great day and enjoy the race, especially you lucky people who are there :D
Hello - what's on the Beeb now?
EJ talking to Whitmarsh
Massa needs hand-holding
Oooooh. Something Merlin powered just flew over.
Could be part of the BBMF or a privately owned Spitfire, Hurricane or Mustang...
Was that the engine that was used in pre war Grand Prix cars too?
Nope.
Napier produced a few engines that were used in cars. Merlin was a WW2 development.
However, since then someone's put a Merlin in a Rolls Royce car :D
How much longer is the forum on for?
Another half hour
Over here everyone!!
Back to the daily, then. Should I stay up for the Debrief? If I stay up for that, I stay up for TG. All or nothing. Hmmm...
good day!
how are you today?
*manages to travel from thread to thread*
i'm alright, am going to start the last bit of my textiles i think, get that all done and dusted so i don't have to worry about staying up all night to get it done for tomorrow.
ah yes, technology coursework. how long till you start A2 coursework? or is this it?
I return, I got bored of doing nothing
tis fine art textiles :P hehe A2 courses already started in history, psychology and ict, will prob start A2 textiles from tomorrow in the lesson once i hand in my As stuff ;)
It's nice in this thread. Mor relaxed than the live stuff
back from the track, managed to meet Scott the fan reporter for a while after the race :-)
Trying doohickey on my crappy phone a sec..
Cool! :D Did he interview you? ;)
the one for mobiles?
Hey it worked! Cooool.
Did you have a good day Wolf?
No I managed to get Opera working on my phone. Somehow... even thr built in browser doesnt want to do anything so I dunno how this is managing to survive.
shouldn't your AS stuff have been sent off already? i remember being totally stressed out to get ours in before exams last year
I am not sure :-) had a bit of chit chat only, I had to rush as one my buddies had to hurry to Luton to catch his plane
I had very cold day. Looked nice and warm everywhere except out seats at top of the windy Lufield grandstand :-)
Anyone think some swiss army knife knives are a bit over the top?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wenger-Swiss-Army-Giant-Knife/dp/B000R0JDSI/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&s=sports&qid=1245596638&sr=1-34
I rest my case
Everyone in the paddock looked cold and had jackets on.
This guy had other problems...
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1311267
I have seen that before. Why would anyone spnd that amount on one of them. It is utterly useless
"Ello-a, i am 'Nando ze race car driver"
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1311268
I think I'm gonna disappear for a bit.
Ooooh, GP2 races. :)
it's AS coursework. and tomorrow is the deadline, as they start moderating all art work on wednesday. Art coursework usually has a deadline a few weeks after the written exams finish
ahhh ok, fair enough.
From the Red Bulletin Wonky Commentary:
"We expect to see dismally underachieving Brits this week, but properly they should be at Wimbledon."
I heart them.
WIN!
Who ever heard of a bull that was red? I spit in the face of the red bull. Olé
See you later Lukeh
the response was
Just you wait, Andy Murray will lose and miraculously become Scottish rather than British next week. Just as Jenson will be West Country Bumpkin Jenson Button in tomorrow's papers.
:D
okay i'm off to get some work done. see you all soon for the debrief!
I saw a brilliant example of that earlier this week. There was a long rambling piece somewhere about his being the last British GP and about the great British tradiition in F1 and all the British teams and British world champion drivers. THen a sentence saying this year's championshi is led by England's Jenson Button
good luck with that!"
have fun!
Don't work too hard lou
Is it bad that i'm disapointed that my freeview is buffering whilst i'm watching blue peter?
On so many levels
But why English? Don't they wanna label him as British coz it's a good thing?
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/silverstone-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/trio-of-winners-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/silverstone-wave-jpg
The amount of English journalists that forget this is supposed to be a United Kingdom
Thought as much, i've turned it off.
I would quite like to go outside and do some mountain bike filming, but it looks like it's going to rain, and i'm not sure i can be bothered!
That is bad for so many reasons. Especially now that Konnie Huq is no longer on Blue Peter
English press
it does disapoint me greatly that i don't know who any o fthem. Apparently one is them is called joel. Thats all i know
I didn't know if you were happy or having a seizure
Oh.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, you'll catch up
:D
a little from column A, a little from column B :D
I missed more Rob? Rats.
I guess you were not expecting pictures of either so getting both caused a slight overload
Hi All!!!
Just got in after 3 amazing days of track action, watched the race from Luffield today....
Was it a good GP to watch??
He was on for quite a while. He was really good to. Does the forum go on the iplayer?
I enjoyed it. How was it from the grandstands?
1st and last stints were
Not sure. I haven't seen a single one this year.
You did, we were expecting him to name check you :)
Piquet beat Anando? Somehow I missed that news until he tweeted it just then.
Hehe, well, I am the secret to Massa's success this year.
Don't think so, it's not on BBC1 schedule. Red Button/Online only
Piquet is happy:
Hey RCC. Glad you enjoyed your weekend.
It was quite interesting and seemed to go quickly but there was not that much memorable about it. It was a shame that Vettel got a big lead so early.
You should know if you are planning on watching the Debrief it will be at 6pm due to Top Gear
Not on the iplayer, but if you go on the Formula 1 page on the BBc sport thingy ma-jig then it should have it
Ok so my filming idea has hit a problem...
No camera.
Poo
So he should be, was he one-stopping?
Figured that's how he got past Nando
Damn
I did try to send a subtle alert in the comments
It was mentioned in the comments but the comments were so fast today I missied at least half of them
I see that. Appreciate it :)
I don't know, but I don't think Alonso was helped by going backwards at the start and being stuck behind Heidfeld and his broken wing for so many laps.
You need to meet Rob at every race
Yes please.
I was never a Massa fan but his EJ snub may have pushed him over the line.
I care little for Massa but I am duty bound to support him as long as Rob is there.
I don't rate Massa that highly as a driver but I love the way he conducts himself.
EJ is a loony
aah so he's who Max was refering too
Sadly not. Max was probably still talking about Ron Dennis
I was great, the noise was unreal. Gotta say the reception for both Brits was amazing, Lewis is defo still the jewel in the eye to public. Not something you'd pick up from the usual coverage. I hear he did doughnuts after the race???
Ah that's where it is!!
The Stig was out doing demonstration laps with Jade Jagger & Lewis was out doing drifting in a Merc yesterday morning.
We saw him do a quick one on TV then they cut to Vettel which is fair enough but they said he did a few
Yes he did - I think he did it at Stowe? Could be wrong.
There may be some bad blood between the two of them - if I remember correctly, Massa tried to approach Jordan for a 2003 race drive. EJ turned him down because he B&H wanted a British driver.
You need to watch the BBC show from today. They put in a load of great features in the hour before the race including Lewis and Jake in one of those 220 mph Merc McLarens on a soaking wet Silverstone. Jake looked terrified and when Jake spun Lewis just sat there like it was nothing.
hi again.... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^that was the highlight of the show for me ! and Lewis doing donuts at the end.....
yay for PK ...at last !!
Gotta say though the crowd organisation this year was pathetic. Me and Kay got to Luffield at about 7.30 this morning and literally found the last spot to put our stuff down. It was due to all the folding chairs there wasn't enough room for everyone in Luffield and people were being turned away regardless of a ticket. The marshalls were really uncaring and told people to lump it or leave it. Now for £100 a ticket you'd expect a place to sit let alone a patch of cold concrete to stand on for 5 hours before the race. Really felt sorry for those turned away. People were getting angry and having a go at people sat down in chairs which isn't on, it's not their fault the organisers messed up not realising everyone will bring a chair this year.
I wish the BBC had stuck with the donuts a little longer
Doesn't FOM do the TV coverage now rather than the local broadcaster?
Yeah it was Stowe
Yes you are right
me too......about an hour and forty minutes of it would have done.....
That would be a lot of donuts.
He would be a bit dizzy.
I did propose last year that instead of drive through penalties there should be an area like a secondary pitlane and any driver given a penalty would have to pull of in that area and do a set number of donuts. That way driver skill is rewarded and fans get some fun out of penalties.
Nice! ;)
Get that in the manifesto.
Do you think it would be popular
Absolutely!
If Piquet got a penalty he'd never finish the race.
It just shows how unfair life is. He spins and gets slaughtered for it. Lewis s[ons after the race and everyone thinks it is great
That's true. Maybe I underestimate how well he would do the donuts, considering he is well practiced in the art of spinning.
I want to see Massa do donuts in the wet. He would be great at that
Interesting choice of song from the BBC for the post-race montage. After looking it up (and asking around), it seems to have come from the OST for the 2002 movie Road to Perdition.
He's had lots of practice. ;)
Oh, well done J
Thank you. :) Song title - Road To Chicago. :D Can't quite remember what scene this had in the movie, though. That was a chilling movie.
Why must wordpress have so many layout to choose from? :D
Choice is good.
Maybe, but it makes hard for me to pick one I'm going to go with :D
Is it wrong that I thought there was a layout called Choice
:D
I've discovered myself listening to one of those songs that i shouldn't be listening, and/or more importantly...singing...
Bad times
Hey guys, almost at Kings Cross to start the journey home. Live show isn't streamable on an iPhone is it?
Ahh, Kings Cross was a pain for me yesterday, it cancelled all tube trains east bound and then there was massive delays at Liverpool Street. BOOO
how are ya?
I've started my blog! :D
I've only done an introduction post to start, I'm still writing my other F1 related post :)
Yay for blogging!!
Try downloading this link from drop.io and running with safari
Works on desk top as a pop out player, may work on phone's browser
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodcast-live-stream-larger-view-htm-3
Like the name :)
it'll give Max extra ammo ;)
Now you need to claim that you own the copyright to it and sue Max for using your brand ;)
Inded, though shouldn't it be an F1 Loonie
I have decided to debrief, but not to Top Gear, and to go to work an hour later than usual :D
How are you still up?
Nice to have options
What time goes the debrief thread open
I will believe it when it happens
3am is hardly midnight in Amy world
Thanks :D
Your right, thanks :)
:D
2 minutes ago sidepodtime so who knows
Am getting Error: Could not submit comment again
I am only doing this 'choose your start time' job for another 5 days, I might as well make the most of it :D
Yet comments are appearing a short while after :(
It happens when the site dies, which it does frequently, and comes back after a minute. Blame MediaTemple. Nothing we can go about it.
I was going to do both and try for an 'early' night tomorrow, then I remembered its first day of Wimbledon coverage and I need to stay up until 4.30am.
It looks like a temporary problem. I tried refreshing ye olde comments and got a database error so probabl MT's fault
*shakes fist at MediaTemple*
Ok, thanks for info
Is there a debrief this evening?
New thread just opened
Ta. :)
*sits in the Daily ready for the Gear of the Top variety*
First thing I see on the feed is May drinking. Ha!
I have a different program on BBC Wales :(
Although TG is on at 8 thank god!
Hello daily post
I'm not tired :(
Hullo Jackie
oh what? it's telling me i don't have enough bandwidth to play live video on iplayer...
3hrs of James May tonight
Aha! Lukeh is the daily post! Caught!
Top Gear only lasts an hour and then there is James May's moon program for another hour
Hi Lukeh .. how'd the driving test go?
Noooooo! You know my secret!
You sir are a pusher (in the nicest possible way)
I passed! :D
Back in an hour
From now on you will be Luke "the daily post" h. To me.
Fantastic w00t pity there are no dancing smilies .. well done sir! :D
2 hours - theres a james may program on bbc4 straight after it - on the edge of space iirc.
4 hours of May across 2 channels. wow! :D
am off to watch the tv... back later
The only way to beat the Borg is to fill the focus the collective mind on something other than assimiltation
:(
Thats a very orange shirt.
Right - will watch this from bed. Good night! ;)
wow, that shirt is orange
my boss might want to have words with you when I fail to do any work tomorrow :D
eeee McLaren!
Good noght everyone who is leaving
night
G'night Journeyer
ooooh man im so excited for this series
Some of this looks very random..
Goodnight to anyone who's leaving
Amy, that's the song he is singing.
This is top gear!!!!
Looks like everyone's wanting to watch TG live :(
True. But still. :)
kiitos! ;)
Everything stops for Top Gear
It doesn't normally go this quiet
haha :D you know it makes sense ;)
I'm not paying any attention to it. Still not sleeping though.
Have recorder .. will watch later. I'm not in a TV kinda mood tonight.
Did Jeremy get that shirt from EJ?
Get yourself a new job Amy .. works wonders for your sleeping pattern
It's almost as orange as his fake tan
She needs to move countries
I am on the hunt for one! Would prefer to win the lottery though.
Me first!
Wouldn't we all :)
Wow!! Thats a cool car
You had your chance
Betcha its not as coll as my Vettel hat :)
Damn I should have taken page 22 to Silverstone :(
Your Vettel hat?
Just my new cap I bought yesterday.
ooh :o awesome!
The car on top gear was a roadworking version of those little car machines you see yout kiddies that moves about slightly, like the postman pat machines and whatnot.
I actually reckon the credit crunch did affect Silverstone. There was no Force India stall or any Toyota stalls and there were a lot less exhibits around the circuit
Cute!
So, Lukeh .. when do we get to see the "Rob sandwich"?
don't encourage him!
Don't tempt me :P
I've photoshopped wayyyy too much useless nonsense this weekend!
awe
FFX? :D
You can't not do a Rob Sandwich. People will lose belief in you. Chrstine really want that picture. She just can't say so in front of you know who.
I missed the show, whats the rob sandwhich? :D
If you missed them jackie
Max;s idea for 2010 championship
FOTA's new chocolate
F1 Jenga
Jacques Villeneuve's new album
Breakaway Championship gets sponsored
I did LOL .. lemme look see
One of the titles suggested was I'm in a Rob Sandwhich after Mrs C mentioned it :P
That looks like Jenson...
Oh my GOD!
Rob was on BBC Tees on Friday, and I was on Saturday. Apparently he's going to be on again on Monday, so I said I was in a Rob sandwich.
hahaha
They probably wouldn't let anyone else drive that car :D
Lukeh .. you are a sidepodtreasure :)
You could tell by the way he sat who it was
he was a different body shape. twas clear
I couldn't :(
Ferrari wouldn't give the FFX to a racing driver they don't know, Schumey would have done the lap, hense why he's there
Thats a good point. Sadly, I'm stupid and never thought of that ;)
haha, the suit is a different size too AND his gloves are subtly different too
hakkineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen
hehe, what an awesome question from jeremy...
For context, he asked Schumi "Does it bore you watching with one guy constantly winning?" :D
im going to sleeeeep. for 2 hours. night all!
Night Amy, sleep well
Bit of a shame Michael didnt do a lap for the F1 drivera leaderboard :(
night!
Night Amy
Michael do a lap without a car advantage where he could be fairly compared?? Don't think so
Night Amy
I go back to my earlier comment
:D
You are just not cynical enough yet
There are so many facebook status about it, i've now got the following phrase copied to comment on everyone of them..
"Ferrari wouldn't give the FFX to a racing driver they don't know, Schumey would have done the lap, hense why he's there"
i'm not here. nor watching, but presumably that's schumi's own fxx?
dunno, maybe. Ferrari keep all their FXX's in Marenello, but you'd think on the amount he was earning he's got one
they gave him one didn't they?
will google...
Almost home, just got 1 more stop and I get to Wymondham. I trust Top Gear's been enjoyable?
oh really? that would make sense, didnt know that
yessssssssssss :D
get through London alright? it was a pig for me yesterday
from wikiwhatsit:
"Michael Schumacher was given the last one (number 30) when he retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2006."
no source mentioned though.
awesome, that would make sense. does it say he's allowed to take it home?
I think with everything he did for them he could do pretty much what he liked
what colour was the one on TG?
"Schumacher's FXX differs from others in that it is the only black FXX without a stripe, it comes with red trim on the wheels, it has matte exhaust tips (regular FXX's have chrome tips), and his personal logo is stitched on the racing seats."
ooooh!! Schuamcher in the Suzuki!
Let's just say I should gave decided to get tim to take me to Kings Cross rather than me deciding to try and go from Liverpool Street which is where he'd taken me back to by accident. But I'm almost home and that's all that matters.
it's a mocking lap :D
Hahha or maybe not :D
This is awesome
'twas a good show :D
Good to have Top Gear back but it would be helpful to switch it to Saturdays :)
I was enjoying Top Gear until I saw him.
he's redeemed himself for me with that one word alone........
Or even at a different time on a sunday, at 9 perhaps?
You can't plan around a podcast recording in SidepodTime
I also like to say the North East is the best place in the world based on that.
hehe. am liking that christine is editing already. 6pm is a pain, but it has upsides too.
How are you guys holding up Mr C?
You seemed a little distracted this evening, have you fried your brains with the hecticness of this weekend?
May is going to fly in a U2. Jammy ******
it wasn't a bad show was it? gah, sorry.
friday has knocked us for six, qualy digest will be up tomorrow for example, but we'll be fine by tuesday.
No, it was just funny
Christine will work her usual magic in the editing suite and no one slse will know the difference
it's never a bad show!
BTW re: Webber Wipe
Webber kept wiping his nose in the press conference
It was commented by Sniff Petrol
the show was perfect :) i thought it was ace, i didn't think there was anything wrong? other than you having to turn off the comments.
Steven said later when i mentioned it before, but what about a all female podpanel/sidepodchat? or am i going to be told to ask closer to the time?lol
Which was also funny
exactly :)
I thought it was a really good show
you are correct ;)
that's okay then, just checking.
i will insist that in future, comments are less amusing and less frequent though ;)
We talked about it last night.
Would be a good idea to have an entirely female panel or chat during the next series
It wasn't funny for me!! Try having a co-host who isn't actually listening to you!!
It's fun trying to crack you up though
Sorry for being funny.
Thought about a shout out during debrief to sow the seeds
oi! shouldn't you be editing?
brilliant. i'll stop asking questions now then, cause i'll have forgotten come october :P
Strange saying sorry without Amy after it.
But too easy :)
:D
good idea, that will be fun to listen to.
;)
sounds like my parents. only i don't co-host anything with them.
Listen to?
You'll be in it!
Whoops - missed it.
okay, must.try.harder. :P
:P
oh what? no one said i had to be in any more panels. and before steven says anything yes i know i enjoyed them.
Flibster, did you see the Evora on TG?
You will be in the all female panel
We've already decided...
I mean, nothing. Carry on
Not trying to force you or anything, but you will be there
Yup.
That was the one I had my test drive in.
oh... charming....
actually you'll all have forgotten it come autumn so that's alright ;)
I ♥ wiki
All we'll say is, get your homework done on Saturdays ;)
I was just reponding to a comment made in the live one.
I am in the daily. ;)
you'll still have forgotten, the wiki will be massive by that point :P
ouch. i have been working hard all weekend ya'know.
I ♥ calendar
The naughty step isn't too far away for you young man ;)
I'm on it permanently according to Amy. ;)
She asked how Kovi ended up last after the start of the race. My answer was 'Talent'
ggrrr
Seems drop.io has a hard time processing large pic files
Are you surprised? :D
Christine's HULKing out in the editing suite on twitter :)
No. I've escaped once...
*puts in request for a exercise horse and some gardening equipment...*
Caps Lock at the ready
GRRRR, it makes me so mad.
I know you've invested money in it but aren't there editing options available elsewhere?
I. Am. Home. *collapses on sofa* :)
Wow. What. A. Weekend
for the mac? no. apple have monopolised the audio market.
microsoft-esque. sadly.
Now I have finished eating I will explain.
Mr C and I and some others were having a discussion last night in the comments about all the recent delurkers and the fact that the male:female ratio on this site is unlike any other F1 or motor racing site.
Mr C said it was a shame that the podpanel shows didn't reflect that and everyone who is currently listed on the Next Week's Panellists list is male.
I mentione that I thought the reason may be that people like Gavin and I can talk over people because we have strong opinions and the women on the site may not be as confident. I have noticed that on shows I have been on if there is a silence and Gavin or I or some of the other guys start speaking at the same time as you or Jackie etc you always back down. So we eventually decided that it may be interesting to take all the men out and have an sll female show where we are not talking over you.
This may also help some of the women who have not been on before if they lack confidence.
Is Logic that awful then
Time for a revamp obviously
I was more than happy using Audition on my lovely PC.
IT IS TERRIBLE, HATEFUL SOFTWARE.
Can't you run bootcamp?
the is version is, yeah.
logic 7 was fine. and i think before that they were owned by emagic and it was fabulous too.
aww, mr c go make Christine a cup of tea and a cupcake ;)
And 7 doesn't run with Leopard?
no. because then i'd have to as well.
we both have our own versions of logic (fully licensed). i use it to trigger the samples live, then pass the files to christine to edit.
I think lou's onto something here :P
ahh that makes sense. although i'm not sure i don't talk much because of the guys, i don't talk as much cause i'm dead scared and a bit shy on the phone...
I DON'T DRINK TEA BUT THANK YOU!
logic 8 has significant advantages. notably, they knocked £500 off of the asking price. which is a big deal when you're buying a second copy.
You can't let him loose in the kitchen
Think of it as a big girly chat with Christine and some pals
NO NEED TO SHOUT! :P
I am quite nice, really. Normally I am not this angry.
There have been quite a few occasions where I have listened back to shows and noticed that a few times I have talked over someone.
I am sure you will be great. You may not believe it but when I was your age I was way more shy than you. At that time I could not have been convinced to do a 20 second Skype call at gunpoint.
If we are going to get some of the newer people to do the show you really have to be on it. It is unfair that there are so many women who comment on the site but they don't get on the shows
The real clincher Lou is that Mr C is going to do the scoring so he has to be on camera
Audition rocks!
It's just as good as when it was called Cool Edit. ;)
Why are you angry? I feel I went and missed something big :D
http://twitter.com/mrschristine/statuses/2269535525
you don't drink tea! oh :( can of red bull or diet coke then? or maybe this will help?... or this
Editing is not going well, software issues - see previous comments
how much damage can he cause with a kettle?
Too much ;)
Yes, my two favourite things!
why is he wearing two watches?
One is in SidepodTime
The real question is, does he know what the kettle looks like?
Follows Christine. This week I may actually start using my twitter again.
Someone drop.io'd a pic to remind him the other day
:D
Before my first panel I was extremely worried about doing it because I'm very shy in new environments and that, obviously at the time, was very new. But once you get into things it is immensely enjoyable I find no matter how nervous you may be about it
I mean, look at me, I seem to phone up with vociemails every other week with ridiculous ideas and often in a worrying-schizophrenic-esque commentator voice of a certain bbc commentator but still... ;)
Once you overcome your initial shyness about it all I'm sure you'll be fine! I mean you've done panels before and obviously hosted too :) although I am liking the idea of a female panel, it does open up the opinions of formula 1 to a different demographic audience which could be very cool.
He's a geek - must have lived off pot noodles for a little while at some point. ;)
Maranello time & local race time?
you'd be surprised how many people put electric kettles on the cooker and turn it on
Temperature, steam, boiling liquid. Are you insane
I was just thinking about the water
Like a child when a parent is on the phone ;)
There are all sorts of sidepodpeeps on twitter.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodcast+Community+on+Twitter
Red Bull & Nachos
I do have one complaint about top gear tonight...
The power laps board is for cars you can buy and drive on the road and can go over a speed bump - none are true for the Ferrari FXX - yet it's still on the board.
Where as - the Caparo T1, which was faster than the FXX and can go over speed bumps - was taken off. :(
BOOO!
Thanks, but I last used my twitter in February, oh and this afternoon to tell sidepodcast how awesome they are, anyone know those guys? :P
hmm... i suppose....
:D :D
i'm much better than i used to be, mainly cause of spc really. it's given me the confidence to go on and try different things like going for prefect and stuff. A year or two ago i would never be writing to Jules for example.
does that mean all i need to reply is 'ted' and i'll get some points?
but i've been on shows before :P
I still can't believe that jammy sod is going to fly in a U2
Has he chucked yet?
The criteria are road legal and over a speed bump. Can the FXX not go over a speed bump?
ahaha :)
I thought there were going to take it straight back off. The car is not eligible
Typical cheating Schumacher
iPlayer finally has tonight's Top Gear up :D Now to enjoy! :D
hi I'm on twitter but am on there under the name of bimblelass
We need some regulars to commit to it to coax the de-lurkers to as well
Ted or Rob or Leo
it's not road legal, doesn't have the ability to raise the nose for speed bumps.
Caparo offered at their own expense to put a speed bump anywhere on the top gear track and still take the lap record.
'Stig' was annoyed as he also thought there was another 4 seconds in the car that he couldn't get out as well.
Was what I was thinking
The link to Schuey was needed though
Someone needs to keep on at me to get me to leave a voicemail or something
Yes but if we are going to do an all female show we need the old hands to be on. If you don't volunteer none of the new people will.
I would happily sign up to any panel/chat
However, there is a SLIGHT problem with me entering this one. :D
Other than it was his FXX?
i don't know why i'm arguing you with you guys, christine has my mobile number and skype details it's not like i can escape in any way. lol
How many pseudonyms do you have? :)
It's the only reason he was there, there is no way they'd let a normal racing driver drive it.
0121 28 87225.
Followed
different ones for different forums as a rule....lol
And Kathi would find you whever you hid :)
Evening all :)
fine...fine...fine. i'll be on the show then.
Oh... and I would have liked to have seen the Evora's lap...
It's also much better than the Porsche Gayman. ;)
No. He is in a full space suit. It is going to get messy in his helmet if he does
Hey Rachel
Add that to the wiki please and the same for James
ello ello, i haven't met you before. how are you?
I've followed a bunch of people, just the names that jumped out at me. I've added my twitter to the list so feel free to add because I'm about to go ;)
Another time, I promise. I started my blog so it is only a matter of time :)
Night all!
If only the SR-71 still operated. Send him up in one of them. ;)
One of the best aircraft ever produced. Standard missile evasion was to push the throttles forward. :D
Top Gear = awesome so far :D
i agree with that, i didn't even watch the show.
will they rip it off next week?
yeah, no doubt. they wil get MANY emails
:D
YAY!
Good :) Yourself?

That is a certainty
G'night to those retiring for the evening
yeeeeees!
♥
But they'll also get a load of emails from the animal rights lobby. Which they will ignore, so...
Night Lukeh
Night Lukeh
Tortoise croquet was funny
toucheé
i like that many people? how did that happen?
And VBH
Yes but the power laps are serious
oh jeez.
i need a list too.
who did it knock off the top spot? bet they're on the phone monday morning.
You do, on the wiki, under 'Me's Crushes'
Ted, Rob, Leo, Lee, VBH
They all have 3 letters
and Jake - he can walk and talk
:D
Like he reads that ;)
i couldn't say no to you guys really could i. i spend way to much time here and i'd feel guilty. plus you may forget about me when i go on a two week holiday if i don't go on the occasional show :P
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Me's+Crushes/
Definitely, I only meant Clarkson is a rule to himself and any number of emails aren't going to change his actions
Gumpart Apollo officially.
Un-officially it was 0.1s slower than the Caparo T1. ;)
why is alesi on that list??
you have a mobile right? can you not still comment?
Didn't know Clarkson had an iPhone :D
I believe you once said you liked him?
is the list not up to date?
g'night all..... off now to watch wsbk
Uses a different phone later
i don't like the guy, do i?
see ya.
G'night Karen
wsbk?
Night Karen
commenting on my mobile is slow at the best of times, let alone in spain :P i'll prob find an internet cafe or something though, not sure how i could survive 2 weeks without internet, specially over the valencian gp weekend.
World super bikes
i've no idea, shouldn't you know? :P
have you tried this page though?
http://www.sidepodcast.com/realtime/mobile/
night :)
'night Karen
Ahh, ta
You can with that. Though I did once go 2 weeks in Italy, only to find internet connection at the hotel on the last day.
Night Karen
hehe. i don't even like him as a driver, let alone have a man crush on him.
have updated the list. have i missed any?
You get to miss Valencia? Unfair. We have to watch it
yep :) the other day and it's really useful, but refreshing constantly on my phone is an absolute pain ;) so it's easier not to :P
understood.
So do I. Hehe.
Adds to iPhone handy list
Behind the Scenes of Top Gear S13E01
Part 1
Part 2
Schumacher in the FXX
i'll be watching it (it was one of the conditions of going on holiday with my friend :P), we've found that there is a pub that always shows it, so watching the Valencian GP two hours south of Valencia in a Spanish pub/ golf course should be fun :)
Cool, thanks
Jake
christine likes jake. i saw him on friday and snapped lee and ted instead.
I ended up in the hotel room on possibly the hottest day of the holiday to watch that drab.
Anyone heard about Max willing to drop charges on the 8 teams? Just caught it on SSN. Parantly he said it to Sky Italia.
Sorry, this video is currently unavailable
Please try again later
:(
LMAO at Jeremy's look at the camera in the Evora piece :D
Hey Scott, you are back :-)
Yup.
He's obviously realised that suing them isn't' the most sensible of things if you want them to stay in F1...
He likes it. :D
As such, my place in the queue is now worth a few quid. ;)
Yeah, just an awesome weekend. Was great to meet up with you as well :)
you guys met?
COOOOL!
Evening!!
Very pedestrian race wasn't it. Can't say I'm unhappy about the result though :D
Evening Alison
Indeed we did. After the race outside Luffield.
For a man that is so distracted by comments, you know very little of what goes on here!
that's brilliant!
I really enjoyed the mid-field battles at the beginning though
And the anticipation of Jenson catching Nico at the end
yes, for very quick chit chat :-) I had rush after the race, as one of my buddies had a plane to catch from Luton and I need to tag along with the rest of the group :-)
i really don't. sorry.
Ouch! ;)
haha :D
Hi :)
that's made my evening.
Was great while it lasted though. :)
Look who beat Alonso.... Mr spinner sure showed you meanies!
now when I see what my fingers typed I have to laugh :-)
I think he was running a Peugeot Diesel today ;)
that Tim looked like nice bloke
Evening all.
I never said anything bad about that rubbish driver who spins a lot Piquet.
Hey Chris.
Hey Chris
We need to number the Chrises soon
Yeah, he was there to essentially look after me throughout the whole weekend. Really nice, genuine guy to talk to.
If it helps, I'm the original (but only by about a week)
Yeah yeah yeah. I saw you all....
I posted a link during the live show where Max was saying he was willing to have talks with the teams because the differences between them were minor
Maybe you need to add that to your moniker ;)
He's also heard of F1Wolf and his blog. Apparently everyone at his offices rave about it.
Technically, I'm the original, but I will let you take that title from me.
nice title of the fresh Grand Prix + magazine :-) BULLS HIT
Hi Alison.
Better day today?
wasn't it wolf who originally pointed out the competition to us all?
hold on, i comment hunt.
heeeeh!
that is funny :-)
Of course you are going to say he was nice considering the weekend he gave you
Yes much!!! Hard work though. One of my staff is pregnant and she had to go home today because she had such bad morning sickness
Do you manage the shop?
Yeah
it was!
f1 wolf, you sir are a legend (still).
Hence yesterday's cleaning being left to you
[Let's leave that one there shall we]
Paul di Resta's cousin wins another IRL race. NZer team mate a disappointing 5th
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76459
There's no way I could ask someone else to deal with that.
haha, and look who replied first :-)
We have to get people to do far worse
Though they do get a 'toilet payment'
Took him all of 3 mins though, what was he waiting for? ;)
What?? What do you do?
Evening everyone... Just quickly stopping by to say that I had a great weekend. Hope you all did too.
Having lots of Sidepodlove tonight (and no wine).
just reading through the replies... my favourite:
"...if I were to win this Puma competition, I could be hanging out at Ferrari, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault or BMW!"
rock 'n roll dreams come true.
writing the entry ? :-)
how ironic lol
Aircraft maintenance
Suometimes there are 'blockages', other times there are just filtersto change
Hi Alex
brilliant, just brilliant in every way imaginable.
Damn that age limit.
Hey Alex.
In an Alannis Morisette way?
Evening Steven... I assume you're having a very Spacious evening...
well, it is worth trying entering these contests - look at Scott, or Lou with the helmet or humble me and the ex-ferrari driver :-)
This place is quite lucky with F1 competitions isn't it
I have never really been jealous of James May before.
They do indeed. As I said on the Parade Lap show, massive, massive thanks to Puma for selecting me as the winner. Totally blew me away and it has literally been THE best weekend of my life. Ever. That is going to be pretty hard to top in my lifetime I think. Until the day I drive an F1 car...
Oh lord, don't get me started on that one now...
Does winning touring car tickets count?
Niiiiice.... At least that's probably a normal part of the work.
I guess so
yup. have i missed something else?
Well what do ya know Scott, I've just come across a link...
Well I haven't, but at least you had a great time.
I guess, not pleasant as you can empathise
I also won touring car tickets a while back :)
Nah, last year, won them with the Evening Chronicle, saved us on twenty five quid really. We also won Falcons tickets off them, ooh, should enter more of them competitions, I guess I'm the only one doing it.
wiki-winners page?
He said in an interview the other day that people constantly banged on about salaries with him, agents and the like and he said, "look I make programs about Cars, wine, beer, space and technology and they bl***dy pay me to do it. I'm the luckiest g!t alive. I don't need money as well." Or words to that effect.
I just got such a shock!! You're really not expecting that at all.... If it happened again I'd probably lock the door and phone a cleaner. Never mind my bonus....
Tell you something - at the Santander stand, there was a competition running to get a tour of the McLaren Technology Center and, well, I, erm, kinda sorta entered that as well...
Speaking of competitions. Whatever happened to the writing competition for Joe
Does it have to be Motosport related?
I won tickets to New York on a plane we were retiring
[Years ago, stood on the World Trade observation deck, can't do that anymore :( ]
Can't you put someone elses name who hasn't won. Give us a chance and such.
I won a John Guest Team Eurotech hat from crash.net, and a Calendar from the same team from btcc.net i believe.
And i won Renault hospitality for testing last year (Steak to DIE for) and then a personal tour round the renault factory by none other than Bradley Lord himself
Well the thought of putting R.G did cross my mind for a moment...
well you can't win if you don't enter ;) best of luck :)
You have to think being on Top Gear is as good a job as there is. It's not like racing where you have to deliver every day and as soon as you are suspected of being slow you get kicked out.
out of time. on christine's list though. keep bugging us and we'll aim for next week.
And when i say won, i mean...i moaned and they gave them to me :D
what a great bloke!
You had to. You can't miss a chance like that.
As long as you promise not to end up stalking anyone there ;)
lots of things are happening next week aren't they? :P
don't see why. add that too.
Just like writing to Jules
Are Shell sponsoring it?
Right good night everyone!
And with that, I say farewell. Ciao.
The, Dear Mr R letter might give it away.
At McLaren. Pah.
will write to jules tomorrow the moment this textiles is handed in. i think i would appreciate one of you guys reading through it before i send it though... to make sure it's ok...
Schumacher FXX video now up
I'm sure someone will, whoever is around. Mr C or Christine could delete it from drop.io afterwards
Night Alex & RG
okay :) thank you.
Leaving already>
night sleepy people.
i think christine's finished the edit.
I'll wait just a tic then.
Yes just a quick pop by to say thanks to everyone!
I will read and help if I can
I have to be up for work in 6 hours.
would be greatly appreciated. also... if someone could give me a nudge tomorrow evening if i haven't done it yet...
That is one *nice* car.
Were they serious about not letting it out of Maranello?
That's a bit... odd
Schumacher implied he had driven it at other circuits, but it needed two guys, and a laptop doing something before he drove it, so maybe they only let the car out undersupervision?
It's true, you can take it out for track days or test days and the like, but at hte end of hte day it goes back to the factory
sounds right
That car was Schumacher's personal one so I am sure he can do what he likes with it
He drove Zidane round Magny-Cours in it in 2007 I think.
Wiki says yes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_FXX
White stripe makes it look a bit American
Who turned out the lights?
*looks up from textiles* what lights?
did it get whilst you were commenting again?
*get dark
interesting piece by Joe Saward on the FIA FOTA Mosley thing in the latest Grand Prix + magazine
Went quiet all of a sudden
I think you should stop getting distracted by us, nothing to see here :)
Here you go lovely people:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/21/f1-debrief-do-i-really-sound-like-fisichella/
Apparently this is a common thing!
i'm only doing a water colour... it's boring.. :( plus i'm thinking through what i'm going to write to jules. i'm all excited about writing to her :D
You're a star, thanks Christine
The Rob Sandwich edition ;)
Wow, you are too good to us :)
Thank yoou :)
How do water colour & textiles go together
Never mind, tell me tomorrow
You were fast! Thanks Christine
textiles is art ya know :P
she says that, but i still dont believe her ;)
What do you have to do to keep lclt awake?
Actually comment from it?
Won't the cloth get all wet?
yup.
Can't believe tomorrow I have to go back to normality. Whatever that is.
Kinda makes sense I s'pose
it does dry ya know :P
You're in the wrong place if that's what you're expecting :)
it's not tomorrow yet. there's no daily post.
I've gone from 2 years of A-Levels, to a week of nothingness, to 2 weeks in a primary school. I'm going to be so screwed up
it's all lies
Doesn't that just make it painting?
I thought textiles was all sewing machines 'n' needles & the like
Erm...I know that. Hence why I said tomorrow and not later on today. :P
i sewed through my own finger once, does that make me textiles?
I think so :D
i'd like to point out it was with a sewing machine.
It hurt...
lots
you do stuff to the piece once it drys, >well you can do. i won't be cause it doesn't need it.
it is, but you can paint too... i've done a 2 page collage this evening on water with lots of water colour and photos :)
And careless
erm.. depends what you did with it after :P and yeah i know how that feels... ;)
OK
drop.io/sidepodcast
well yes that too, i walked into the textiles office with half a needle coming out my finger....
:D
Agreed
Still dragging the sewing machine?
is it Friday yet?
Not in any country
sidepodspace update
I think I have posted this before but just in case. The lunar mission that was launched a couple of days ago is due to arrive at the moon at 5:43 am EDT / 10:43 UK.
Can't imagine there will be much if anything to see. The bit that impacts the moon should kick up a dust cloud 6 miles high but again unlikely to be much to see.
There is a launch for the GOES-O weather satellite on June 26th. The launch window lasts for exactly an hour starting at 6:14pm EDT / 11:15 pm UK
Yes
still plugged in too
Something on dropio. Don't know if it is spam or serious
A Fast & Free Link Exchange Service for Better Search Engine Rankings
I'd say spam
i'd agree. fix in a bit.
The kids'll love that at school
Yeah that stuff is just an attempt to gain page rank
So. Are we ready to call for the removal of front and rear wings? I am
Tyres too
two pages i've been working on this evening
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo0275-jpg
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo0276-jpg
drop.io needs a report button
Am sure we talked about this before and it's down the the drop.io guys to get their shizzle together
woooooooooooooooow :o
it does. in fact admin has zero spam functionality at all.
Just watched that james May - edge of space program - amazing.
Skunk Works aircraft are always something special.
I've got some prints of photo's of the curvature of the earth done by a Blackbird pilot (Brian Shul - his book Sled Driver is awsome) somewhere - will have to find them and finally get them framed.
wow. pretty :)
Still looks like art rather than textiles, either way - it's impressive
For the plebs, I mean
OK, time to turn in for the night. Just finished watching Top Gear on the iPlayer. A perfect end to a really perfect weekend. I shall see you lovely lot in the comments sometime tomorrow. Goodnight. :)
that's what i've been up to tonight.. there are plenty of cloth pieces. but my style is more art based yes :)
night scott.
I've seen that, is quite weird
night scott
Ditto
[Bet he struggles to wind down after that weekend]
Gilles Villeneuve said that in the early 80s and I have said it ever since. Trouble is people have been sol high tech and high downforce and think that anything without these is not F1. Every survey the top two answers are high tech and more overtaking. They are mutually exclusive.
More mechanical grip, less aero
Those are incredibly good
I wish I had been around for the debrief, I could have done a good Tremmayne (sp?). That race drove me nuts.
'night Scott
i know what you mean.
was agreeing with you that it does need a button.
How high did the Blackbird go?
Technical working group need to talk once the Formula Chocolate Biscuit saga is done
Figured that, was just clarifying
For a small site it does rock though. Agree they should back off on the bloat front too
Voicemail
:D
True, although there is now a 3 week break for me to relax.
Wiki says 80k with life support
I saw a link to something Doctor Vee wrote before the FOTA announcement of the breakaway. He was talking about Formula None whoch I thought was a great name
Amazing the engines work at that height
How ace would that name be. Do you think they'd take it seriously if Flav announced it as such?
The fuel also contained fluorocarbons to increase its lubricity, an oxidizing agent to enable it to burn in the engines
OH MY GOSH!!!
GAVINS ON GARETH JONES ON SPEED!!!! :o :o :o
He likes the Sniff Petrol guys
He gets around does Gavin
wow. doing numbers?
Time?
just before 13 minutes on ep 93
It was the oxidiser I was thinking about. When you think how thin the atmosphere is up there it is amazing the wings don't stall
What?
[skips in search]
Sniff Petrol podcast
93 or 93a?
Gareth Jones on Speed ;)
I know what it is I am just amazed he didn't mention he was on it
dosent matter, 93a is the enhanced
Found it

SPC community is trying to minimise Six Degrees of Separation to about 3
how freakin' cool is that?
Three Degrees of Sidepodcast.
*ahem*
Frickin' cool ;)
Wikitionary!
we're starting a pop group?
Have they heard you sing? ;)
80'000+
No one outside of the project really knows - still classified.
Same as the top speed.
Grr teenaged sisters who teel you they have a lift home, and then ring you at 2330 asking for a lift. home. grr.
Does anyone take anything Flav says seriously?
Wiki also says [however unreliable]
an absolute speed record of 1905.81 knots (2,193.17 mph, 3,529.56 km/h), and an "absolute altitude record" of 85,069 feet
Not really but I'd love to hear him say that, if only to see Max & Bernie's reactions
We were all young once but yes, annoying
That's what they are telling us. They don't mention the hyperspace and alien technology though do they....?
Hey, at least she called early ;-)
They're unique engines.
If you get the chance - go to Imperial War Museum - Duxford
American Air Museum has the only SR-71 outside of the USA.
The engines at altitude act partially as normal turbojet engines, but also as ramjets.
As much as 50% of the air flowing into the engines went around the engine and was propelled into the exhaust and burnt with more fuel.
Absolutely unique.
Same as the fuel. If you take a blowtorch to a puddle of Blackbird fuel, it doesn't burn. Has to be mixed with another chemical at start which produces a green flame on startup. :D
Also, on the ground - the sled leaks like a sieve. it's only at speed and altitude that it all expands and seals up. The hangers had grates in the floor to collect the liquids that dripped out.
Who thinks this stuff up?
Aliens I tells ya.
All supersonics do that
Concorde leaked more than an MG Midget
It holds all sorts of records. But more than one SR-71 pilot has said that she could do whatever they wanted.
Not since the day he arrived in F1
Thats just not possible. ;)
But you can't refuse to go just in case. A pain
Thats what teenagers are for :D i'm sure you had your moments too!!
Right you lovely people, i've got to be in bed sharpish. Theres a group of around 30 7 year olds waiting to be introduced to me and if i arrive bleary eyed (but not bushy tailed) then they're going to have a field day with me!
Goodnight all!!
Hey, at least they don't leak (much) when they are not running.
Eeek!
G'night Jon
Goodness. Nightmares await.
Yep, it should be fun though. Am almost looking forward to it ;)
I wish it weren't
Weeks inside a fuel tank for repairs during a major check is not fun
Still, we'd nap on occasion
[I didn't say that]
I remember reading about a Concorde flight engineer who put his brief case in a gap between a control panel and a bulkhead. When he tried to get it when he landed it was stuck solid. So when you go so much higher and faster it is amazing they can keep fuel and lubricant in on the ground
Concorde or the MG?
I have experiences of MG's leaks. ;)
Night Jon.
I already went. She was only in the next village, (~3 miles) but she can't walk it at night.
There is a famous story of a crew member who put his hat between the engineers panel and the bulkhead - more than enough space in the air.
On the ground - the hat was crushed. :D
I was on board the one that flew to MoF in Seattle
Capt put his cap in the gap at altitude and it's stuck there forever now!
And I the former
I was speaking MGs, or in my case Austin Healy
Isn't Classic British Sports Car & Leak, a given ;)
Hehe.
My old MG would drop about a litre of oil a week when not driven.
Horrid thing.
I'm sure my Healy would stop leaking once the oil got below gasket level.
People were getting angry and having a go at people sat down in chairs which isn’t on, it’s not their fault the organisers messed up not realising everyone will bring a chair this year. {Comment #393}
I tried taking a stool with a combined bag. It worked fine on Friday because I only had to sit down for 90 minutes or less at a time. Trying to do the same on Saturday was difficult because so many things ran straight from one event to another that I was sitting down for 2-3 hours at a time and feeling very sore (to the point where I had to watch part of the Porsche and GP2 races sitting on the concrete step despite not being able to see much of anything from that position).
On Sunday I gave up and brought a camping chair. Nearly everyone else had done so from Friday and Dad had given in on Saturday. Luckily we arrived at 6am because if it had been much later, the officials would have had to send us round to the other end of the terrace. It was clearly a health and safety issue as it was nearly impossible for us to get a space (the one we ended up with was, thankfully, a good spot with a clear view of the pit exit and Copse) and within the hour officials were chivvying people to create an aisle so that people could go to the toilet and get food...
To be fair, we were all sent letters saying that only small camping stools and bags fitting underneath them were permitted. The trouble is that nobody seems to have invented a stool that is suitable for the purpose of watching complete Grands Prix days. If someone does (and sells it for a decent price in the venue), they'd make a mint!
I could probably make you one... It would involve doing a life cast of you bottom though - which is not the most dignified of procedures - then making a custom seat from that.
It just shows how unfair life is. He spins and gets slaughtered for it. Lewis s[ons after the race and everyone thinks it is great {Comment #406}
It's a matter of timing and purpose.
Lewis did it after the race to thank everyone who'd come out, supported him and made the atmosphere of the British Grand Prix so great.
Nelson did it in practise because he tried and failed to keep the car going round the corner correctly. (He did it at Copse in Free Practise 1 and you could hear the laughter over the engine noise...)
I could probably make you one… It would involve doing a life cast of you bottom though – which is not the most dignified of procedures – then making a custom seat from that. {Comment #1015}
It shouldn't do - just making the seat go out a bit wider without losing too much tension would have made the seat usable for the whole day...
Anyone heard about Max willing to drop charges on the 8 teams? Just caught it on SSN. Parantly he said it to Sky Italia. {Comment #763}
Well, he would have been pretty silly to rely on a contract that Ferrari already claims his organised has reneged upon...
Although he's still taking Ferrari to court, just dropping the FOTA case..
Errrr... ok then.
This place is quite lucky with F1 competitions isn’t it {Commnet #827}
I won a Midland F1 cap in mid-2006 - and am still waiting for its delivery. Last I heard it was in the delivery system somewhere between Silverstone, the admin-at-the-time's house and my house...
