We weren't expecting to be incredibly behind schedule this weekend, but that's exactly how it turned out. There are two F1 Digest shows expected out later today, however the Debrief is already up! At least something is going right. Here are some of the other things we're discussing:

  • James has only gone and got himself a blog. The name comes from an interview Max Mosley gave during the British GP weekend, and managed to insult most of the paddock as he did so. At the time of writing, there's just an introduction post up there, but do as I do and subscribe to the blog, and wait for good things to fall into your feed reader.
  • Yesterday's Parade Lap was a really fun show to create, and we hope it was good to listen to as well. If you haven't had a chance to do so, we really recommend going back and checking it out. We got to chat to Scott as he navigated his way towards the grandstands for the race, and we took in some predictions, and even had a bit of a special moment for Piquet. What more could you ask for in a show?
  • In F1 news, Vettel has said his win was not as easy as it looked. Um... really?

That'll do it for now, as ever, we await your comments about all manner of topics, not necessarily just the above. Don't forget we try and keep things positive, though, and a quick reminder that anything Max gets up to behind closed doors is an unmentionable. Please. I will see you in the comments.

I'm looking forward to watching F1 live on my TV when OneHD starts here July 2nd, can any Australians tell me whether there are ads on during the race? I'll have the usual stream going for the pre and post race shows, so if there are ads, it wont be a big deal.

I'm so excited. I'm tempted to buy a new Samsung LED TV to celebrate!

I'm excited about it too. Reading Amy's comments (from Melbourne) it seems that they do have adds. I think it's the same as we see in the replay. Still, live will be a great improvement. Will be nice to watch live on 94cm screen, not a 4cm stream.

Is it true that Max has dropped legal action against FOTA in an effort to get them to talk to him?

Except that FOTA has snubbed him? FOTA are really twisting the knife here - but this may backfire for them if Max proves to have enough support within the FIA to run again...

Looking like that isn't it. I'm not sure about the tactics either. There's obviously a lot going on behind doors, but it really seems FOTA is going for Max's scalp.

  • Flibster22/06/2009 at 07:12

Looking like that isn’t it. I’m not sure about the tactics either. There’s obviously a lot going on behind doors, but it really seems FOTA is going for Max’s scalp.

This is a calculated move. Andrew Davies of PF1 also made a very good point that Bernie didn't give a public statement of support for Max over the weekend.

Again, the big question is whether or not FOTA did their political homework at the FIA. Even if they now have the upper hand on Max, this is still a pretty risky move to take - this has as much downside as it has upside.

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 07:28

I swear someone will write a book about this sooner or later.

I know what I want for Christmas!

It won't be out by Christmas. Max will need to be out of power by at least a year before this can happen.

  • Chris_Humphreys22/06/2009 at 07:45

    Hey hows everyone

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 07:45

This is a calculated move. Andrew Davies of PF1 also made a very good point that Bernie didn't give a public statement of support for Max over the weekend.

Interestingly Bernie said at one point that the egos were too big on both sides... And I doubt he was talking about himself.

In further fuel to my argument that this is an entire charade designed to get rid of CVC guess who rode together in a single helicopter to circuit?

    Bernie

    and

    Max

    and

    Flav

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 08:05

    Bernie and Max and Flav

I'm thinking that this may have been more a quick closed-door discussion to try to get FOTA to back off, rather than a real conspiracy theory to get rid of CVC (even if that is probably what will happen anyway).

I've just been listening back to the parade lap. Lots of fun.

I felt I needed to because I couldn't hear the our tune music in the background during recording. So it was interesting to hear it with the backing music. I am much crueler than Simon Bates ever was. Maybe because he was reading out other people's letters!

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 10:03

The song for Piquet is perfect! Looking in the mirror thinking it's over.

    christine has competition.

also, loving the race noted form ollie.

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 10:16

My favourite part of the show was that:

We were on a live link to Silverstone talking to Scott

And I sitting on a second live link

And I read a question from the comments from Lukeh about Heidfeld's beard

And Scott knowing the community so well had already asked Heidfeld about the beard and could answer.

Something about the interconnectedness of it all was pretty mindblowing. Almost as cool as a small digital boy reading a drawing on a screen.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 10:17

I was thinking - perhaps we could collate the best bits from the bloggers on their Silverstone experiences? I mean, there's SPC, Scott, RCC, F1Wolf, Jackie...?

sounds like a fine plan. the cool thing is though, everyone one of those people has a blog!

  • me22/06/2009 at 10:55

    had a great weekend though.

has anyone received a sporting injury from waving before?

I've got sun burn from yesterday. Unfortunatly, I was wearing a red bull hat, so there is a upside down arch of sunburn on my face! looks a little rediculus (I can't spell!)

    heeheheheheh. :D

can do. we'll hassle each one for a quote, as they stop buy the comments.

I thought the wimbledon champion was supposed to be first on court each year?

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:00

    had a great weekend though.

Why do we think that is? The political landscape changing? The British GP continuance news? The fact that even though one driver ran away with the race, it wasn't the same guy?

  • Chris22/06/2009 at 11:00

Wow. Even the Americans have noticed F1's issues.

...a quick reminder that anything Max gets up to behind closed doors is an unmentionable. Please. I will see you in the comments.

    Even the FIA/FOTA meetings? ;)

According to the BBC F1 mole, what has been said behind closed doors is different to what was said in public over the weekend...

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 11:01

    had a great weekend though.

Why do we think that is? The political landscape changing? The British GP continuance news? The fact that even though one driver ran away with the race, it wasn't the same guy?

Well we have a championship battle again.

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 11:01

that is tradition, but he ain't here this year

  • me22/06/2009 at 11:01

Why do we think that is? The political landscape changing? The British GP continuance news? The fact that even though one driver ran away with the race, it wasn't the same guy?

    all of the above.

actually, i'm not that bothered about vettel winning. was rooting for webber.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:03

that is tradition, but he ain't here this year

Oh yeah! I forgot Roger didn't win last year. Poor Rafa :(

Can't complain too much though, my man won yesterday....

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 11:03

actually, i'm not that bothered about vettel winning. was rooting for webber.

Same here. Or Button from sixth. Vettel won in a way that was too much like Schumacher for my tastes.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 11:03

Same here. Or Button from sixth. Vettel won in a way that was too much like Schumacher for my tastes.

unfortunately i get the impression red bull happily favour one driver over the other. i guess it's the only way they'll keep seb for the long term.

Well they keep fuelling Webber very heavily ... They must view Seb as the future and Web will just put up because he has a good drive?

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:07

    was rooting for webber

You are an honorary Australian for the day after that statement. We need a double entendre smiley

  • me22/06/2009 at 11:08

maybe they keep him because he makes a good number two and crashes less than DC.

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 11:08

Same here. Or Button from sixth. Vettel won in a way that was too much like Schumacher for my tastes.

But Button hasn't in the other weeks?

    Didn't matter after quali

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:09

Well they keep fuelling Webber very heavily ... They must view Seb as the future and Web will just put up because he has a good drive?

I don't understand what you mean. Seb was heavier for qualy this race and tbh after the first lap no amount of strategy would have webber catch him up.

hehe. we backed him to do well in turkey too.

i'm as equally bored of vettel as i am of jenson this year. they're both nice guys which makes them difficult to dislike though.

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:10

Not in every race he hasn't. Maybe Turkey, I dunno. It just seemed that Vettel won effortlessly when Jenson has to fight for it...

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 11:10

Just watching top gear - that FXX lap is amazing!

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 11:11

    Only thanks to Rubens yesterday

  • me22/06/2009 at 11:11

Did you know he likes Little Britain?

i did not know that. fancy eh, a formula 1 driver liking a comedy program that hasn't been funny for at least three years. the things you learn.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:12

Not in every race he hasn't. Maybe Turkey, I dunno. It just seemed that Vettel won effortlessly when Jenson has to fight for it...

I think that's just bias no? This race seems like most others this season. He's led off the line and driven into the sunset. Massa's been his rear gunner most of the season!

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 11:12

i did not know that. fancy eh, a formula 1 driver liking a comedy program that hasn't been funny for at least three years. the things you learn.

A driver with a sense of humour is apparently a fact worth repeating.

  • Chris22/06/2009 at 11:12

Just dropping pics from yesterday including an interview with Antony Davidson ! (unfortunatly louise goodman was interviewing him, but never mind...)

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 11:12

Not in every race he hasn't. Maybe Turkey, I dunno. It just seemed that Vettel won effortlessly when Jenson has to fight for it...

In my mind the effortless win was Barrichello's... well fault is too mean a word for it. Rubens did well to get a not very well handling car into position. And once he was there he kept Vettel's only competitor out of the way.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 11:12

Did you know he likes Little Britain?

Driver likes a comedy program thats interesting at first and now is repetitive and boring - sounds like the 2009 F1 Season!

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 11:13

I think that's just bias no? This race seems like most others this season. He's led off the line and driven into the sunset. Massa's been his rear gunner most of the season!

I saw no difference between the way Vettel and Button have won. Both lead easily from the front. Both bored me.

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 11:13

i did not know that. fancy eh, a formula 1 driver liking a comedy program that hasn't been funny for at least three years. the things you learn.

To be fair to him he mentioned liking it back during that first season when it was funny.

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:13

In a new moment for "internet streaming in Amys life", I just paid for one.

    Paid for what?

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 11:14

    Paid for what?

Wimbledon online. I got sick of trying to find streams during the French Open, this way I can take my pick of 6 courts and know that the streams won't shut down.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 11:14

To be fair to him he mentioned liking it back during that first season when it was funny.

That's kinda the point. When was the last time he mentioned he likes it? Not since it was actually funny.

But apparently it is the one fact about Vettel that bears repeating.

  • me22/06/2009 at 11:14

In my mind the effortless win was Barrichello's... well fault is too mean a word for it. Rubens did well to get a not very well handling car into position. And once he was there he kept Vettel's only competitor out of the way.

tis true. with my cynical hat on though i suspect rbr would've favoured one over the other if webber had passed.

of course this is all kimi's fault...

But they didn't let Vettel past... when was it? Last race? They issued team orders to keep Vettel behind.

I think they've played it pretty fairly over there - so far.

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 11:16

The only thing that impressed me yesterday was that absolutely nobody could overtake. This on a track everybody says is a great F1 track

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:16

david croft, please shut the chuff up about vettel liking little britain, you must've mentioned it about 16 times this weekend. i cannot continue hearting you if you keep this up for much longer.

    kthanxbye.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:16

I do think they play the team game more than some others which tbh is ridiculous, surely the competitor title is gone?? Engineering the result last race just seems pointless

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 11:16

    Clever. Expensive?

$10 for 24 hours or $30 for the whole 2 weeks. So I went for the latter.

  • me22/06/2009 at 11:19

Exactly... you can't infer from that that what they might have done had Webber got ahead.

And they put Vettel on a heavier fuel load than Webber this weekend confounding those who think they are giving Vettel everything.

  • Jeremy22/06/2009 at 11:20

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 11:22

And they put Vettel on a heavier fuel load than Webber this weekend confounding those who think they are giving Vettel everything.

According to the folk at Mark Webber Forum the drivers are getting alternate strategies and taking it in turns to be heavy, as stated by some RBR person on TV earlier this year. Can't remember if it was a driver or a management dude. I am not sure if this is actually happening or not though.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:22

Maybe I was so annoyed about last race result because it was like the Le Mans debacle.

  • Dank22/06/2009 at 11:22

The drivers take it in turns to select their preferences for qualifying and in Silverstone it fell to Webber to opt to run light and gun for pole - which then backfired due to a dawdling Finn with no concept of getting off the racing line on an in-lap.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 11:25

I just wish people could be allowed to just race properly and settle it that way. Okay you can tell them if they crash into each other they're both sacked but beyond that I hate the 'team first' angle. Just seems to add a farcical dimension to it all.

Yup. Was one of my first purchases on Bluray. :D

I would say it's to appease the inner child... but I am my inner child. :D

Very irritated that I can't find Aliens. It's a Bluray disc - all the other in the Quadrilogy are in the case, Aliens isn't in there, and isn't in any of the bluray players...

    Hmmmm.

  • Dank22/06/2009 at 11:30

Nope, not at all. I think Vettel would have get second without his mistake. That's just the way it goes sometime. Having them race over the last 5 laps could have been quite dangerous.

Do you think Webber should have just moved over?

No, not at all. I think they took his 2nd away before then though when they refused to swap strategies to suit the fact that he wasn't in front anymore. It was obvious that Webber was gonna get in front unless he got straight past Button which wasn't really realistic.

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 11:35

hehe. Wish we had some of those

Yeah, like I can see that Barrichello needed to beat Button this weekend. I think mentally you probably get to the point where you'd like to drive into your teammate just so they'd crash....

I'm still looking for a man to cheer for.

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 11:52

Thing is, it will be interesting if we do see the Red Bulls 1 on 1. I think there is more chance of them being on the same pace. I just don't think Rubens will compete with Jenson. Besides, Jenson doesn't need to fight now.

He wants to add a Wimbledon championship to his long list of achievements, and is wondering how he can take out Roger without anyone noticing.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 12:33

I knew she'd struggle. Watching the mens straight after the womens, everything seems to be going so fast!!!

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 12:35

Roger needs to learn that early rounds shouldn't be quite so hard. More bagels, less getting broken.

  • me22/06/2009 at 12:37

Mr C - did you get into the pits at all?

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 12:42

Keep winning 6-0 and there'll be loads of time to eat real bagels after your match

  • Paul22/06/2009 at 12:43

no not yet, that is tomorrows drive to work. But I think my question is answered

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 12:43

Is it bad that I'm bored of the tennis already?? Normally it takes until at least the semis....

The first rounds tend to be boring though, its a bunch of no name players, or big names playing people they are waaaay better than. Theres normally only one upset per round and you'd have to watch 64 matches in the hope you'd see it.

  • me22/06/2009 at 12:43

No its not street legal, its been driven by someone who has had experience of the car before, probably helped develop it, and has been set up perfectly for him!

Although if they are going down this route we could have F1 and LMP1 cars going round the circuit this summer!

Rob is on BBC Tees right now.

I watched Rob this morning on the forum.

I might have an unhealthy obsession. Thoughts?

  • Stuart C22/06/2009 at 13:21

    Afternoon all.

What a surreal morning! The lady working the checkout at Sainsbury's wanted to know my views about the state of the nation – she was quite insistent, actually. Then the BBC rings up...

    It wasn’t the stig.

...and that's what they wanted to talk about. Will be doing about 12 local stations in an epic ring-round this pm.

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 13:22

You should read the BBC F1 Mole – I think you’ll find it interesting…

Max had the compromise for the taking. Had he decided to stick to 2012, his reputation would've managed to escape relatively intact. While FOTA would look like they caved in.

But he just had to push too far. And now he's paying the price - bigtime.

I dont see why FOTA dont just openly call for max to resign… Unless that would solve everything, and give nobody anything to argue about

Probably because the FIA members don't like getting dictated to by a bunch of teams/carmakers (outsiders, so to speak). It would be better for FOTA to try to influence these guys to make their own decision.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 13:22

...and that's what they wanted to talk about. Will be doing about 12 local stations in an epic ring-round this pm.

  • Flibster22/06/2009 at 13:22

It's not a road car is it? It's an invitation to a development programme where you get to lease the car for trackday use only.

    lap board is for cars:

    1) You can buy

    2) Are road legal

    3) Can go over a speed bump

    FXX - scores 0/3

Caparo T1 *which was faster than the FXX* Scores 3/3 Yet the T1 was removed. :(

'Stig' was disappointed with the T1 as well - he thought there was another 4 seconds in the car that he couldn't get out of it.

The main reason it was removed was because they thought that no-one would want to give them a hypercar in the future as there would be next to no chance of it being faster than the T1.

I want a T1. *looks down back of sofa for £270'000 worth of loose change - finds a melted chocolate button*

what in the world is there to talk about?

Some people, it seems, are credulous enough to believe that MS really is the Stig!

    which stations? will tune in.

About half of them are pre-recs, but I'll be live on Derby (!) just before 4pm. In all, it'll involve about an hour and a half on the phone...

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 13:28

Some people, it seems, are credulous enough to believe that MS really is the Stig!

    Oh dear!

Jeremy even said he wasn't at the end of the show!

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 13:28

Listening to BBC Tees who say they asked Rob about the Stig thing - Why is everyone talking about whether Schumacher is the Stig or whether its a big publicity stunt. Is it not bleedin' obvious?

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 13:28

Going home in 30, watching TG in an hour's time - I saw the first 15-20 minutes live. Can't wait to see the FXX lap! :D

  • Alenyaa22/06/2009 at 13:29

I was not a Schumi fan in the slightest but I'd still be excited to see him in that environment

I guess you would be. I remember beeing excited at seeing Villeneuve from a distance so close I could have spat on him. Yet I wasn't at all a fan of him at the time.

  • me22/06/2009 at 13:29

Jeremy even said he wasn't at the end of the show!

    he did? ha!

  • Alenyaa22/06/2009 at 13:34

Right, sorry to mention an unmentionable again, but I've gone on and created an F1 2007 batracer game for those that are interested. Seems some minor events took place over the weekend and therefor I think some possible interestees (that a word?) may have missed it.

Don't worry, I won't ask you to plug it in a daily, but I hope you don't mind me doing so here. :)

I'm afraid everyone will associate that soley with Franck

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 13:36

i do. but when did we last use the jingle? 2008?

I think it was this year - just - when you announced that Ted was joining the BBC. It was the next show after you retired it... Which was in the 2008 roundup show.

    iTunes autodeletes things?

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 14:25

    iTunes autodeletes things?

If you ask it to. Which is good for me because I hoard things until it gets to the stage I can't sort through it anymore and have to mass delete it anyways.

You can choose to have it delete only played things or only things over a day old or whatever. But not a combination.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 14:26

You can choose to have it delete only played things or only things over a day old or whatever. But not a combination.

    Ah, yes, I see.

It is not yet smart enough to know you are going to want to relisten to something in five minutes time ;)

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 14:26

Actually no, I've had another look, it's the timeframe bit it needs. You can choose to keep all unplayed or the last 5, 10, 20 etc episodes.

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 14:27

Yeah exactly so I don't like that. I only use that for the newspod I download because tbh if you don't listen to it soon, it's not worth it.

I keep strange working hours though so I don't really get to keep up with things as they happen. I live my life through podcasts in the car. There's too many for me to deal with, I need to trust Apple to do it for me :D

    Hmmmm?

    Whatwhatwhatwhatwhat?

Apple ones can be used on a PC - but not recommended as they're missing a few important keys. ;)

I don't use wireless ones as I do a little bit of gaming and the latency isn't useful. Although I always found the batteries died at the worst moment.

I either use IBM Model M clicky keyboards or MS Natural 4000's - the 4000's are my keyboard of choice at the moment. Plus they're reasonably cheap. :D

  • James22/06/2009 at 16:35

James has only gone and got himself a blog. The name comes from an interview Max Mosley gave during the British GP weekend, and managed to insult most of the paddock as he did so. At the time of writing, there’s just an introduction post up there, but do as I do and subscribe to the blog, and wait for good things to fall into your feed reader.

Well if that isn't reason for me to update my blog regularly I don't know what is :D

I don't live on the tennis community like I do here though :D I just never like to miss a good gif party. I don't think there is anywhere that has F1 gif parties, if so I would have made a lot more of them. Instead I've only made one of Kimi falling off his boat. Fun to watch over and over and over in a loop.

I have already put money aside for my tickets for the Australian Open final next year. $280, ouch. I'm going to get a 5 day pass for $100 as well and try catch lots of games on the outside courts during the first week. I like that tickets are easy to get here :)

I have gotten so much more hooked since I went this year though, I refused to go to the final because I thought it was too expensive, but I really regret that decision now.

Just had a sudden other thought about the parade lap...

I think that the conversation with Scott in the middle of the Silverstone paddock might be the only time that a convo with Scott didn't require several attempts at ringing or a drop out or two after we got connected!

    Another bonus point for Silverstone!

I dont know if this is relevant or if anyone cares, but it looks like sky sports might have a rival in the UK market... ESPN just bought the UK premier league rights which Setanta lost...

  • Alex Andronov22/06/2009 at 17:33

Having just watched the making of the "Amy's greatest advert ever" I was struck by the realisation that there was a competition involved in the original advert. I did not pick that up AT ALL!

  • Flibster22/06/2009 at 17:33

    Ooooh. Missing ISIHAC on BBCR4

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 17:34

But where will ESPN show it? They don't have a UK network, right? Smells like a Setanta takeover to me...

I picked up straight away on the fact that I can't enter :(

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 17:34

They have 2 channels here, there has been speculation they will launch a third for some time...

2 channels, including or excluding ESPN Classic?

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 17:36

    They have another one?

They have ESPN America and ESPN Classic

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 17:37

They have ESPN America and ESPN Classic

Is ESPN America straight from the States? Or is it a local channel?

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 17:37

They have ESPN America and ESPN Classic

Never noticed ESPN America. Suppose a thrid might be likely in that case

  • Journeyer22/06/2009 at 17:40

Will watch the rest of Novak's match in bed. Night, y'all.

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 17:40

Is ESPN America straight from the States? Or is it a local channel?

It is mainly American content, not always ESPN. Whatever they have the UK rights to.

It used to be NASN (north american sports nework) then Setanta NASN, I think setanta still handle distribution for that channel.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 17:41

Will watch the rest of Novak's match in bed. Night, y'all.

    Night sir.

I return from a fun day at school, primary school kids are funnn

    I say annoying

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:03

    I say annoying

Today we did how to add different amounts of money together.

Last week i was doing maths that didn't use numbers, today i added different amounts of money together. WOOO, go primary school!!

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 18:04

Last week i was doing maths that didn't use numbers, today i added different amounts of money together. WOOO, go primary school!!

This is why primary school work experience is awesome. I loved my weeks there.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 18:04

Last week i was doing maths that didn't use numbers, today i added different amounts of money together. WOOO, go primary school!!

I do maths without numbers, its called algebra, and its ridiculously hard

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 18:05

I do maths without numbers, its called algebra, and its ridiculously hard

Algebra's the best!! Don't knock it.

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:05

Last week i was doing maths that didn't use numbers, today i added different amounts of money together. WOOO, go primary school!!

I would so much rather do that than be a high school teacher. The stories my high school teacher friend tells me make me worried for the future of the world.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 18:06

Algebra's the best!! Don't knock it.

    f(x) = x^3+x^2+x+x

    Best, yeah...

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:07

I do maths without numbers, its called algebra, and its ridiculously hard

Give it 2 years my friend and you will understand what real maths is ;)

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:07

    Best, yeah...

can you work out the gradient on any part of the curve?

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 18:08

    Best, yeah...

Haha what are you doing atm? I can't get an idea of how old people are here...

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:08

can you work out the gradient on any part of the curve?

I am having flashbacks to stuff I once knew and now couldn't do to save my life.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 18:08

can you work out the gradient on any part of the curve?

    We've only just started A-Level

Haha what are you doing atm? I can't get an idea of how old people are here...

A-Level stuff in year 10. Darn fasttrack.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:08

I would so much rather do that than be a high school teacher. The stories my high school teacher friend tells me make me worried for the future of the world.

Today made me feel clever, and in a class of 18 year olds genius's....i didn't feel clever last week

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:09

Haha what are you doing atm? I can't get an idea of how old people are here...

I'm 23 and can't remember anything I learnt at Uni let alone high school :D

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:09

Today made me feel clever, and in a class of 18 year olds genius's....i didn't feel clever last week

I have lost count of the times I have said 'how are you a high school teacher. Didn't we just finish high school ourselves? 2003 feels like yesterday.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:10

    We've only just started A-Level

    hense my point stands ;)

When C4 comes around you'll find what you're doing now is incredibly easy. But its a gradual increasement, so its not as bad as i make it sound...

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 18:10

    FP3 anyone?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 18:11

I started off trying to get a new keyboard, and i just had to stop myself from buying a macbook...

We convinced our friend not to buy one :D

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:11

    FP3 anyone?

Don't even say those letters in my presence

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:12

Right I'd better get my 3 hours sleep before work. At least tomorrow when I win $50,000,000 I won't have to worry about keeping hours to fit in with my job anymore because I so won't have one.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 18:12

Don't even say those letters in my presence

Hahahaha! It's been a while since I left school. The horror seems to have faded....

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 18:13

    Evening all

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 18:13

I'm 23 and can't remember anything I learnt at Uni let alone high school :D

Im glad i am not the only one!

Except Perter the great. He was great, it would be rude to forget him

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:13

Hahahaha! It's been a while since I left school. The horror seems to have faded....

    It's been a week...and it hasn't faded at all

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 18:13

I'm 23 and can't remember anything I learnt at Uni let alone high school :D

I'm still in uni and I've forogtten it all :(

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 18:13

Haha what are you doing atm? I can't get an idea of how old people are here...

They all lie about their age.

You need some real clever maths to work some of them out

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:14

    Evening all

    Evening sire.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 18:14

Just had a sudden other thought about the parade lap...

I think that the conversation with Scott in the middle of the Silverstone paddock might be the only time that a convo with Scott didn't require several attempts at ringing or a drop out or two after we got connected!

    Another bonus point for Silverstone!

And who says the facilities at silverstone weren't up to scratch? ;)

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 18:15

You need some real clever maths to work some of them out

Yes, my real age is 2x^2+4x-32 = 0

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 18:15

They all lie about their age.

I do genuinly forget my age.

It has gotten me in trouble once or twice...

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 18:15

Right I'd better get my 3 hours sleep before work. At least tomorrow when I win $50,000,000 I won't have to worry about keeping hours to fit in with my job anymore because I so won't have one.

If you are getting al that money tomorrow there is no point in goig to work anyway

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 18:16

Algebra's the best!! Don't knock it.

    f(x) = x^3+x^2+x+x

    Best, yeah...

Ooooh stop talking dirty to me!

  • Amy22/06/2009 at 18:16

If you are getting al that money tomorrow there is no point in goig to work anyway

It's a sure thing. Just like Christine's was.

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 18:17

I do genuinly forget my age.

I lie about my age but I am honest about it. I reached 27 years ago and never saw any reason to get any older. I refuse to age.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:17

I am still playing off my original $40 with my sports betting too :)

You are doing well in that case. I assume you must have had a big win at some time if you can afford to waste money betting on Heikki.

    Circles don't have angles!

They do if your disceting it at any point in the circle

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 18:33

You've all given me maths itch now! I'm having the sudden urge to go do maths exercises....

Go lie down. You have been working too hard. It is affecting your ability to think rationally.

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 18:33

    Circles don't have angles !

    That was my argument!

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 18:35

Go lie down. You have been working too hard. It is affecting your ability to think rationally.

There's something so satisfying about it though. You can just sit down and puzzle through it.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 18:36

They do if your disceting it at any point in the circle

Then its a triangle with an arc edge.

I repeat, you can't trig angles. It's against all meaning

I gave up on Legard this week, tried 5Live, then realised how little I actually listen to the commentary.

true, but watching the highlights, i noticed that he almost seemed bored commentating on Hamilton going past Alonso, then didn't seem to understand why the crowd were so excited about it. It seems he just doesn't care about the sport, and would rather go back to football

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 19:36

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 19:36

I just can't stand them talking about the tyres! He always gets so confused like at Monaco I remember awful sentences like "He's on the soft tyre, I mean the Option, no that one's the Prime, he's on the soft, the harder of the two compounds as opposed to...." it just goes on and on and on and he gets more confused with every word.

The best bit was when he said someone was on hard tyres and Martin Brundle just pipes up with "No he's not" The disdain in his voice....

Look at James Allen. Last year we all hated him then he started a blog. He is a great writer but as soon as he opens his mouth there is an automatic reaction against him because he is just not good live despite having the knowledge and enthusiasm. It just doesn't come across on TV the way it does in print o whatever the internet equivalent of print is.

EJ really does say a lot to other people on the BBC. In the same way I write essays and assignments for my Uni work, except I don't speak loads of rubbish in them and I get to the point sharply.

True, although Allen has gone down in my estimation recently...

Croft seems to be doing really well though, and he's getting on the news a lot which guess is a good sign. I think he could do a great job, i just hope he gets the chance.

Alonso, Grosjean, Kubica, Heidfeld, Klien, Theissen and a couple of Page 3 girls ;) :D

    Who I saw:

Gascoyne, James Allen, Ted, Louise Goodman, Smedders, Norbert Haug, Piquet, Karun Chandhok, Davidson (never got round to meeting him, but saw him on Santander stand on Saturday)

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:54

    Where's my Timo pic?

Only got a couple of pics of him in the car. Will get them as soon as all the pics from the camera I had for the weekend are on the ftp site.

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:55

Just in the car? Damn. Ah well, at least you got some, will have to put the fishies away for another time.

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:56

Just in the car? Damn. Ah well, at least you got some, will have to put the fishies away for another time.

I had no idea where the driver signings were or if there would be any on Sunday. :(

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 19:56

ahh, i read that. assumed you were referring to TK or something.

I thought it was McNish. Was there anyone else at Le Mans who could be described as cool?

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 19:57

Sadly nothing good that was free, only a pair of ear plugs Tim swiped from BMW but I did get myself a Brawn GP hat and shirt and a BMW shirt which I'm wearing right now after the race.

What about all the stuff Puma sent you. Or do they want it back?

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:57

What about all the stuff Puma sent you. Or do they want it back?

Oh I get to keep all that ;)

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 19:57

I thought it was McNish. Was there anyone else at Le Mans who could be described as cool?

    Apparently not.

  • me22/06/2009 at 19:57

I thought it was McNish. Was there anyone else at Le Mans who could be described as cool?

    by gavin? just TK, surely?

  • me22/06/2009 at 19:58

    Apparently not.

    :P

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 19:58

What was Louise Goodman up to?

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:58

    Apparently not.

    Not Franck then?

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 19:58

Oh I get to keep all that ;)

    Well those are freebies

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:58

What was Louise Goodman up to?

Dunno, I saw here walk past looking at some notes or something.

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:59

    Well those are freebies

Fair enough, I thought Jackie meant what did I get free at Silverstone.

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 19:59

    by gavin? just TK, surely?

The number 2 can never be cool. Except when Gilles was number two

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 19:59

I thought it was McNish. Was there anyone else at Le Mans who could be described as cool?

Christijan with a J of course

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 19:59

Dunno, I saw here walk past looking at some notes or something.

Poor thing is still chasing DC about unaware at the channel change for F1

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 19:59

I saw James Allen talking to a few people and Ted walking along quietly talking into his microphone.

  • me22/06/2009 at 20:00

What was Louise Goodman up to?

    she does circuit tv now.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 20:00
  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 20:00

    Not Franck then?

I guess getting on the podium with a broken leg is cool. Do we have any updates on his leg? Like how did it repond to being bashed around in the car?

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 20:01

    she does circuit tv now.

    Is that part of Kangaroo?

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 20:01

I saw James Allen talking to a few people and Ted walking along quietly talking into his microphone.

You didn't barge Simon Gillett out of the way so you could talk to someone unlike other people then?

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 20:01
  • me22/06/2009 at 20:02

    Is that part of Kangaroo?

nope. just the between session stuff on the jumbotrons around the track.

  • Jackie22/06/2009 at 20:02

Fair enough, I thought Jackie meant what did I get free at Silverstone.

I did but freebies are freebies I guess

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 20:02

nope. just the between session stuff on the jumbotrons around the track.

I have not heard the word jumbotron before this weekend and now you've said it twice. It might be my new favourite word.

  • me22/06/2009 at 20:03

You didn't barge Simon Gillett out of the way so you could talk to someone unlike other people then?

    i didn't barge. i tapped.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 20:03

    i didn't barge. i tapped.

There was an element of barging.

  • Jackie22/06/2009 at 20:03

So what do you have to do for Puma in terms of writing or is it all done now?

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 20:03

Right, question with a probably very predictable answer - who wants the audio clips of my interivews with Kub and Nick?

  • me22/06/2009 at 20:03

    You not heard of jumbotron?

Spose I did first hear it on The Simpsons.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 20:04

Right, question with a probably very predictable answer - who wants the audio clips of my interivews with Kub and Nick?

Erm, lemme guess, there might be someone here, no idea who

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 20:04

So what do you have to do for Puma in terms of writing or is it all done now?

Write a fan report which I managed to start at work today. Spent most of my lunch writing. Done 5 pages and still on Saturday :D

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 20:04

Right, question with a probably very predictable answer - who wants the audio clips of my interivews with Kub and Nick?

    I guess RG

  • Jackie22/06/2009 at 20:04

    nope

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 20:04

nope. just the between session stuff on the jumbotrons around the track.

Ah yes, i gotcha, It would make sense to have interviews e.t.c...

  • me22/06/2009 at 20:04

There was an element of barging.

    i would say "sidling'.

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 20:05

A little bit of cold shouldering as well, I reckon.

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 20:06

    spoilsport

    :P

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 20:06

i did not barge. and i said sorry.

He was very polite about the barging, I'll give him that.

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 20:06

Barging/pushing + simon gillett = a world of excellent possibilities

It's kind of symbolic of what Bernie is going to do to him except Mr C didn't pick his pocket at the same time.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 20:06

Well here's the sound clip anyway...

    WOOOOOOOOOW! :D

Funny, that's the sound the Aston LMP1's make ;)

or have i missed something else?

I am catching up, its slowly slowly catchy Racey

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 20:09

I like Darren Heath's big picture on BBCF1, quite appropriate.

Although what it;'s appropriate about should be ignored in happy places like here :P

  • Jackie22/06/2009 at 20:10

Uploading both interviews and the BMW Q&A session to the drop now ;)

Better go find something to do in the meantime. It's gonna be a while... :P

Hopefully ESPN will do better, it shouldnt be too hard.

As long as they Keep the NRL i will be apy'

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 20:19

I'm not happy about that, its the only place I get to watch German football, GP2 and the UFC

Think of it this way, its coming off pay per view. I can watch the NRL without paying an extra tenner

  • Scott Woodwiss22/06/2009 at 20:20

did you record it on your iphone?

Indeed I did sir, with the very fine Voice Memo app. Have to say - amazing quality.

I'm loving the detail they have telementry wise, hopefully we'll see that in the game!!

I have sky but I'm not paying for Sky Sports...Setanta was the cheaper option and had more things I wanted to watch

Fair enough. I mean it does have stuff I wanna watch, non league football, NRL, football from like everywhere, GP2. I suppose if everything goes to ESPN and we don't have to pay for it, I think that will be excellent

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 20:28

Just relised that there is a model of Ferrari world and the Yas marina circuit behind EJ and DC in the bbc post race forum

For me it won't matter what Codies F1 game looks like on PS3 and 360 if it handles like Grid did, Codies claimed it was a racing sim but the cars didn't even feel like they where on a track

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 20:33

For me it won't matter what Codies F1 game looks like on PS3 and 360 if it handles like Grid did, Codies claimed it was a racing sim but the cars didn't even feel like they where on a track

GRID wasn't supposed to be a hardcore simulation though, whereas they've stated several times this will be fully accomadating to the real simulation hardcore fanbase the f1 games have. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 20:33

For me it won't matter what Codies F1 game looks like on PS3 and 360 if it handles like Grid did, Codies claimed it was a racing sim but the cars didn't even feel like they where on a track

  • Paul Convery22/06/2009 at 20:36

GRID wasn't halfway anything though, it was a fun racing game but it didn't give you any feedback at all. It didn't even feel like a good arcade racer in terms of handling, so I just want to play there F1 game first

I don't think he smiled once during the interview. Not that I remember, anyway.

I just can't work out whether he just has a super dry sense of humour, which i can appreciate. Or if he really does have no joy in his life

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 21:14

Mr C watched the goodbye song at least 50 times if not more.

    Nice montage!

I love that they mocked Shumi crying....

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 21:25

How ironic that james allen is singing "you'll never break me"

  • Andy Taylor22/06/2009 at 21:26

Evening all. Just about managed to get caught up - Race Build-up, Race, Top Gear, James May's Moon and the BBC Four programme too.

    How is everyone today?

  • Diffuserdt22/06/2009 at 21:27

F1 app on iPod touch. Tried it this weekend not impressed. Locked up during practice and the race. Anybody have the same problem?

hehe, JV used to look cool!

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 21:27

    But, ahem, Christijan with a J - 1, Franck with a C - 0

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 21:27

Right, back to whatever I was doing before

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:27

How ironic that james allen is singing "you'll never break me"

it's not ironic. he's merely mocking us for failing to get him ousted.

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 21:28

hehe, JV used to look cool!

then he started pretending to be a 40 year old harry potter :(

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:28

F1 app on iPod touch. Tried it this weekend not impressed. Locked up during practice and the race. Anybody have the same problem?

yup. crashed repeatedly during the race. maybe 20-25 restarts all in all.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 21:28

it's not ironic. he's merely mocking us for failing to get him ousted.

    and oh how we tried.

    bit like max really

How ironic that james allen is singing "you'll never break me"

it's not ironic. he's merely mocking us for failing to get him ousted.

So why isn't Max singing that then? ;)

    bit like max really

    very much so.

  • Jon Waldock22/06/2009 at 21:28

He really means it too. Proper fist waving.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 21:29

F1 app on iPod touch. Tried it this weekend not impressed. Locked up during practice and the race. Anybody have the same problem?

yup. crashed repeatedly during the race. maybe 20-25 restarts all in all.

I had mine plugged into the computer. Crashed twice, although I didn't press any buttons much like.

  • Lukeh22/06/2009 at 21:29

it's not ironic. he's merely mocking us for failing to get him ousted.

    So...

if BBCF1 do something similar with legard we'll get "AND WE'LL NEVER...break me! Whoomph!", right?

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 21:39

Seems we have Max fans who don't want to see him go

Where would he go? I cant see him doing anything sensible or fading into the background gracefully?

Perhaps the IOC would like a new leader?

  • Andy Taylor22/06/2009 at 21:40

he went close to the edge though.

Stop it. That's almost as bad as a Max Out avatar. By the way, I know it's an unmentionable really, but this week's Private Eye (the one with Alan Sugar on the front telling Gordon Brown he's F****ed) has a great cartoon about Max.

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 21:40

Perhaps the IOC would like a new leader?

I heard UEFA will be looking for a job soon.*

*When I get my hands on Plantini of course

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 21:41

I don't know how any replacement could possibly be much better. People only rise to positions with so much power by being a certain type of person.

  • Pat W22/06/2009 at 21:41

I might not quite understand hashtags here - what is the point of them and why not use them?

When you click the tag in a client it takes you to a search:

    http://search.twitter.com/search?q=#F1

There is also Twitterfall.com which is sometimes useful.

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 21:42

Where would he go? I cant see him doing anything sensible or fading into the background gracefully?

    That is an interesting question.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 21:43

I might not quite understand hashtags here - what is the point of them and why not use them?

When you click the tag in a client it takes you to a search:

So what's the harm in a #maxout at the end of a tweet then?

  • Pat W22/06/2009 at 21:44

So what's the harm in a #maxout at the end of a tweet then?

It is as much use as an internet petition.

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:44

So what's the harm in a #maxout at the end of a tweet then?

mainly i guess because there isn't a sane person on this planet who wants him to stay in.

so what exactly are you telling me, that i don't already know?

  • Andy Taylor22/06/2009 at 21:45

I don't know how any replacement could possibly be much better. People only rise to positions with so much power by being a certain type of person.

Is president of the FIA one of those jobs like Home Secretary - any person that wants the job should never be allowed to do it?

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:45

It is as much use as an internet petition.

    totally.

  • Christine22/06/2009 at 21:45

So what's the harm in a #maxout at the end of a tweet then?

My main gripe is when it occurs at the end of a sentence that is not about Max.

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:45

My main gripe is when it occurs at the end of a sentence that is not about Max.

    also true.

  • James22/06/2009 at 21:46

My main gripe is when it occurs at the end of a sentence that is not about Max.

Needs to be clearer then ;) like #F1Max

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 21:46

My main gripe is when it occurs at the end of a sentence that is not about Max.

That is very annoying, and perhaps slightly unstable

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 21:47

Is president of the FIA one of those jobs like Home Secretary - any person that wants the job should never be allowed to do it?

Pretty much. Seems to attract facists

  • RG - Fisi22/06/2009 at 21:47

My main gripe is when it occurs at the end of a sentence that is not about Max.

How about Sub hashtags like #maxout~f1 or #maxout~uslessidiot or #maxout~planstooverthrow

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 21:47

Pretty much. Seems to attract facists

    Careful.... ;)

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 21:51

    Careful.... ;)

Actually it is true. Max started a political party with his father in the 50s that had extreme right wing policies and his father was the leader of the British Union of Facists. His mother's sister was Hitler's mistress and Max's parents were married in a house belonging to Josef Goebbels with Hitler in attendance.

His predecessor Jean-Marie Balestre was a well known French facist

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:53

How about Sub hashtags like #maxout~f1 or #maxout~uslessidiot or #maxout~planstooverthrow

i guess another gripe, is that the tags are neither constructive, nor helpful, nor positive.

    so how about #jys-in

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 21:53

I'm well aware of Mr Mossley's dubious family name

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 21:55

    so how about #jys-in

who is this JYS, surely the job will go to James Allen?

Thats assuming the whole house of cards doesnt come down with F1 which it might well do

  • me22/06/2009 at 21:58

I'm well aware of Mr Mossley's dubious family name

i assuming you're coming from the viewpoint of - i'm not sure i like where the conversation is going?

which is always a troublesome problem, because there are many, many smart people who comment on SPC, who can hold a sensible and mature debate on borderline subjects, but frequently someone comes along and takes it to far.

so usually it's easier to avoid said discussions. tis a tricky balance mind you.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)22/06/2009 at 22:00

  • Andy Taylor22/06/2009 at 22:00

hahah it's normally me that ends up saying something offensive :D

  • Pat W22/06/2009 at 22:02

    it's personal taste i guess.

so usually it's easier to avoid said discussions. tis a tricky balance mind you.

Yes, althought the need for the FIA to be controlled by a dictator is an interesting point, and one i am sure we would have been discussing regardless of what happened last year.

I say its a sign of a weak organisation more than anything, that cant control where it is going by itself.

  • me22/06/2009 at 22:04

I say its a sign of a weak organisation more than anything, that cant control where it is going by itself.

it's probably intentionally a weak organisation by design.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 22:05

I just think that to gain enough standing to be elected you need to be shamelessly power hungry. Didn't he stab the incumbent in the back to get in or was that Bernie?

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 22:06

Jackie Stewart was right when he said it needs to be restructured more like a business.

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 22:07

it's probably intentionally a weak organisation by design.

It has too much power though. The problem is the members are all organisations of themselves and thus the FIA is just an afterthought. if it was just a sort of Union of those members it would be fine, but its gone and acquired all this power in motorsport. Its 2 organisations masquerading as one, which has made it into a toy for a few people to control.

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 22:07

There used to be a sporting arm (FISA) which ran sport and the president of the FIA had no role in sport at all. Max became FISA president and used that to build his campaign against Balestre. Once he was elected he decided he didn't want anyone doing the dame to him so FISA just disappeared

This further undermines his position, but the point I was trying to make is that when all you can do is insult your (political) enemy then you have lost. It's the real world equivalent of Godwin's law. In the case of Max, he's unlikely to mention the Nazis though.

I thought the rule was that cars had to get over a standard speed bump. I'm not sure the FXX meets that requirement.

It's also a pity that we didn't see a real F1 driver lap by MSC in the Lacetti.

  • me22/06/2009 at 22:29

The car isn't road legal and there is no way it will deal with a speed bump.

Schumacher put himself in a position like that with no car advantage????

I was looking for helmet stickers as soon as he came out as the Stig. It wasn't the same Bell helmet the Stig uses so it could have been a Schuberth mock up. In the videos on the Top Gear site showing the behind the scenes clips he practised earlier with a totally chrome helmet

I know why, I just said it was a pity. If Wikipedia is to be believed, the FXX on Top Gear is the one presented to MSC and so it is likely he was driving it.

This means that the real Stig didn't do the lap, so another reason to knock it off the board.

I feel like I should be wearing an anorak while posting this.

  • me22/06/2009 at 22:36

Absolutely. I also believe that the Stig is illegal in 17 US states.

  • Alison22/06/2009 at 22:38

    schumi has history.

My giddy aunt!! I'm sure I've seen a race before where the DC borrowed one of Shumacher's helmets and raced with it.

You'd have thought the negative publicity generated by that legal suit would more than outweigh whatever they get from him wearing their helmet.

    she’s back! how was the tent? {Comment #1114}

    Good to be back :)

The tent was as yucky as predicted. In the massive gale of Thursday, it crashed into the car while being put up. The "massive gale" being 8mph. Dad had to peg in the upwind side before it was possible to proceed with the rest of the tent, which is difficult because the tent design requires that the frame be put up, then have someone hold the frame while the guy ropes are put in...

We later discovered that a mouse had eaten a corner in the bedroom that came with the tent (luckily it wasn't the side that touched the ground). It also had so little sound protection that I ended up sleeping in the car on Friday and Saturday nights.

It came down with considerable difficulty and, just to cap it all, some of the tent pegs (including heavy-duty ones) needed digging out.

  • Nick22/06/2009 at 22:41

It wasn't too hard to work around the problems - it didn't rain enough to penetrate the outer canvas (which is just as well since lots of stuff stored in the main part of the tent would have gotten wet had that happened...) and to be honest, my hearing sensitivity is such that Dad was anticipating me needing to make some sort of alternative arrangements. Perhaps I should consider myself lucky they didn't involve a local B&B...

It was just that, as tents go, this one wasn't much good!

  • Steven Roy22/06/2009 at 22:49

    Have they been banned?

They were not exactly sophistcated. Usually little more than flashing lights in the corner of the visor. No-one has anything like a plane compass front and centre. I am sure Johnny Herbert had a HUD in his helmet at Lotus

    a quick google later:

"In 2003, BMW WilliamsF1 driver Ralf Schumacher will use a helmet head-up display system, allowing him to read messages on a 'visual screen'. The system, similar to those used by military jet pilots, has been designed by the BMW Technology department in partnership with German helmet manufacturer Schuberth."

I think so, its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other really, you can always look away from the dash, a hud will always be in the way.

But i worry about...What if they virtualise the view? Remove the sensation of speed? Is it really racing anymore?

    one more thing from autosport:

"Drivers, however, don't like the HUDs, because they put the information in full view all the time - the drivers only want to see it when they need the information, otherwise they may be distracted. To get away from this, the driver could turn the HUD on and off by pressing a button on the wheel."

What if its video real and optimised to remove information to make it as clean as possible?

Then you could train on the same system in the simulator...

    has anyone received a sporting injury from waving before? {Comment #127}

    No.

In a near-miss for "Sporting Injuries", however, I almost got run over by the Medical Car on the way to the Grand Prix Party...

    can do. we’ll hassle each one for a quote, as they stop buy the comments. {Comment #132}

You can quote as much as you like from mine, when they appear :) There will be several entries though (one for each day is planned and the first one is completely written already), so you might want to take that into account.

I dunno, did you watch that BBC feature before Sunday's race with Lewis? Didn't look like the real view was that extensive....

It is quite incredible how bad a view a driver gets in the wet. The first Formula Ford race I did was on about the wettest day in history and the only thing I saw between starting the race and crashing out was the red light on the car in front and only in the braking areas where less water was being thrown up and the physical gap is less.

What it is like in F1 when the speeds are so much higher, the tyres are so much wider and the aero is sucking water off the ground and blasting it up and back I can't imagine.

And if it fails you die

    actually, i’m not that bothered about vettel winning. was rooting for webber. {Comment #142}

I was primarily rooting for Force India. Watching Giancarlo show Adrian how a race weekend should be conducted was fascinating. So was Vettel's win, in an exhibition-match kind of way.

    f(x) = x^3+x^2+x+x {Comment #628}

    f(x) = x3 + x2 + 2x

    (1/x3 + 1/x2) f(x) = 2x

    1/2((1/x3 + 1/x2) (f (x)) = x

    I think...

  • Alianora La Canta23/06/2009 at 00:27

    Yes, my real age is 2x^2+4x-32 = 0 {}

    2x2 + 4x = 32

    x2 + 2x = 16

    x + sqr2x = 4

    Three things are possible:

    1) I've misunderstood somewhere

    2) My E in A-Level Maths is showing (and unlike Harry Potter, E in A-Level does not mean "Excellent"...)

    3) your age is between 1 and 2...

    Circles don’t have angles! {Comment #690}

If I remember correctly, a circle has an angle of 1/infinity at any given point, and it has infinite points. That's why we can't see any corners and yet it is a complete shape.
