Jim: Goooooooooooooood morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are, you are listening to Radio DailyPost, your only place to listen for everything that happens on today, Monday 21st February 2011.

[Cue jazzy little intro music - dun dun de la dun, that works]

Jim: Of course our big story is coming from Bahrain, and our correspondent in the Middle East is as ever Allan MacKay. Allan, what is the latest regarding the Grand Prix?

Allan: [On crackly telephone] Well, Jim. All I can say right now is it is looking unlikely as if a race will be held in Bahrain in 2011. The likes of Mark Webber have spoken against it, and a decision on the test will be made today.

Jim: What is the situation like?

Allan: Well Jim, it is chaos. The protesters are going to target the race, and that puts the Crown Prince on the back foot, and at the moment it looks like he wants the race over his people.

Jim: Allan, as ever, thank you, we will bring you more as we get it.

Allan: Any time Jim.

Jim: Now Danielle Lawrence with the rest of the main news.

Danielle: Thank you Jim. Nico Rosberg has come out on top of the third day of testing at Barcelona. He was quicker than both Vitaly Petrov and Lewis Hamilton who were second and third respectively. Giorgio Mondini, who drove the Hispania today, was notably two seconds quicker than Narain Karthikeyan. Mondini is seemingly in battle with Vitantonio Luizzi regarding the last Hispania seat. Jarno Trulli has also spoken out that he is happy with the Team Lotus car. And that is all in F1 today, Jim.

Jim: Cheers Danielle, so, did you watch the NASCAR last night?

Danielle: As a matter of fact I did, a bit of a let down really. But great result.

Jim: It was indeed, and to talk about it we have our Other Motorsports correspondent Larry Stanley, Larry, how do you describe Daytona right now?

Larry: Pretty dead man.

Jim: Well, not now, but the general buzz at the finish.

Larry: Oh, everyone was on the moon man, it was wheel to wheel racing, big crashes, big moves, big names fall and a big new star.

Jim: Lets talk more about him, did you catch up to him after the race?

Larry: No we did not.

Jim: Uhm. Did you talk to anyone?

Larry: Nope.

Jim: Ehh, thank you Larry for some, insightful information, about this years Daytona 500. Now in the Studio we have our good friends who talks and parties with the comments, Jesse Syme, Jesse, hello again.

Jesse: Oh thank you, you look great.

Jim: Yes, the radio can see that can't they. So what's big in the comments today?

Jesse: Jim, its been massive, the phones have just not stopped ringing because theres a little child on our way courtesy of the lovable Alex and Kat. It is just great news.

Jim: Wonderful.

Jesse: Oh yes, we've seen the big names come out and congratulate them, its been an overwhelming reception. Everyone is happy for them. And that is really it for today.

Jim: Good stuff Jesse, more next week from that guy. Now we head to our Other Sport correspondent Massimo Mazzi.

Massimo: OK. FA Cup week, Crawley lost, Leyton Orient drew, Notts County lost. Cricket World Cup start, who cares about this, I mean come on. Eh anyway, Kenya and Canada were no contest. In Italy land of the greats, Ranieri sacked. Sport for you.

Jim: Thank you Massimo, nice to see your enthusiasm is still there.

Massimo: My enthusiasm does not need to be shown on radio.

Jim: Well it does help for better radio.

Massimo: I think you are talking...

Jim: Massimo there, now time for travel with Anna Olsen...

It has always been disheartening when good movies flop; it gives endless comfort to those who would rather not have to try to make them and can happily take cover behind a shield labeled "The people have spoken." But it's really bad news when the industry essentially rejects a success, when a movie that should have spawned two dozen taste-based gambles on passion projects is instead greeted as an unanswerable anomaly.

I only lost one ball! Score-wise I was seven shots over my usual for this course (which is usually more than I get at other courses anyway). That's amazing for not playing for so long. Thinking of blogging this year's golf exploits among other things.

    Not his fault though.

Unfortunately the day was cut short due to the accident Jarno suffered this morning at turn 9. It was not his fault - it was caused by a car failure and we were missing a part we needed to put the car back together which meant we had to cut day four short.

regarding Bahrain if they postpone it to the end of the season how late in the year is the season going to finish?!

could they not make it a back to back with Abu Dhabi?

    Hi all

  • Journeyer21/02/2011 at 15:33

regarding Bahrain if they postpone it to the end of the season how late in the year is the season going to finish?!

    http://adamcooperf1.com/2011/02/21/bahrain-gp-is-postponed/

It shouldn't change the end of the season date - as that's in Brazil. That said, if FOTA doesn't like the idea of an Abu Dhabi-Bahrain-Brazil triple-header, then maybe Brazil is delayed by a week?

  • Lukeh21/02/2011 at 15:33

could they not make it a back to back with Abu Dhabi?

    Afternoon :)

Depends how easy it is to get everything from Bahrain to Interlagos within a week I suppose. Either that or push Interlagos back and put Bahrain in that slot... it all seems very complicated. Back to back idea seems the most logical though.

  • Mr C21/02/2011 at 15:35

could they not make it a back to back with Abu Dhabi?

    three races back to back?

  • Christine21/02/2011 at 15:35

If there are three races in as many weeks, I might actually die.

  • Journeyer21/02/2011 at 15:35

That in itself isn't an issue. Remember, we did Brazil-Abu Dhabi back to back just last year! The key issue here is if a triple back-to-back is too much.

  • Journeyer21/02/2011 at 15:35

could they not make it a back to back with Abu Dhabi?

Either that, or Brazil gets moved to December.

team personnel will beat you into that grave.

  • Lukeh21/02/2011 at 15:35

    three races back to back?

and lets be honest, two of those aren't exactly the most exzciting of places!

  • Lukeh21/02/2011 at 15:36

It's official. From the Information Affairs Authority, Kingdom of Bahrain:

  • Journeyer21/02/2011 at 15:54

No worries. And kudos to Joe as well, who was probably the first of the F1 media to call this out - way back on February 14.

Wait - that was just a week ago??

  • Journeyer21/02/2011 at 15:54

FOTA will meet in around 5 minutes to decide precisely that - but I reckon that it's all but guaranteed.

It reminds me, forgot to link it in the Daily, but this is the Italian version of Soccer Saturday and is far better. Best bits are 4:40 and 7:00. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLq1uOs35UA&feature=player_embedded

I saw that the other day on your twitter I think and it had me in just as much tears as the presenter. so funny seeing his reactions even if you can;t understand a word :)

They get in a proper heated argument too by the looks of things!

  • Kai in Prague21/02/2011 at 20:42

I'm not sure that Prague is a great place for native English speakers who don't know Czech. My experiences so far in one day (wow, I've only been here one day? a lot has gone on), are that some folks who live here really don't like tourists so much. I've come in contact with 4 so far in a short time. Would I want to try to move to a place that won't welcome me? or am I stuck not being welcomed anywhere 'cause I'm American and I should just overlook this and not put it in the equation? hm. I can see reasons for both right now.

It's a real shame they sound so hostile to you as a tourist because it seems such a nice place based on the photos.

Ohhh I forgot to ask for access. How do I get to look at it?

oh, sorry, I meant 4 rude, over it, disgusted with me people in 1 day?

It is a lot but in this case it's justified.

oh, sorry, I meant 4 rude, over it, disgusted with me people in 1 day?

Oops. In that case, that would say 4 rude people in one day (assuming they weren't travelling together) is a lot.

  • Lukeh21/02/2011 at 20:48

oh, sorry, I meant 4 rude, over it, disgusted with me people in 1 day?

does seem odd that you'd constantly find such hostility. Maybe try seeing on the net if others have had similar experiences in prague?

    Will do!

No, it was 2 checkout (Czech out?) ladies in Tesco on separate days, the lady who sold me the tour ticket, and a woman behind me at a newsstand today when I was buying postcards.

Mixed. It's freezing and some people are mean. But it's pretty and I like feeling and seeing the history of the place, and it's really compact so you can walk it. But I was outside today for 3.5 hours in -7C weather.

They get 4 million tourists per year. Let's just say customer service must be a new way of life. And, to be fair, it is a new way of life for most Czechs. But some are just hostile outright when I haven't done anything to them except not know Czech. :(

A quick plug for the MacTalk Australia podcasts. The guys recently went to Webstock in New Zealand (is that the real reason Amy went home?) and interviewed Josh Clark - the person behind the C25K app

  • Jeremy21/02/2011 at 22:21

Mr C, the link button is giving me trouble. I think it is missing a ">"

But I'm not sure - it could be me.

I'm trying to post this MacTalk link

  • Andy Taylor21/02/2011 at 22:23

That's because Apple and Skype don't get on. You tried using that app on iPhone? Niiiiightmare...

Skype works fine for me on iOS.

  • Turkey Machine21/02/2011 at 22:24

iOS on 3GS. I have crash-happy problems with Skype, not to mention the awkward placing of the "send" key.

PS. I haven't listened to them yet. The quality of their other podcasts has diminished since they changed to recording in Sydney over Skype instead of the office in Melbourne

To be clear a) they are all good, I've listen to them all and b) that guy is the inventor of couch to 5k process. He's not connected to the app. But his interview was great. Talking about interface design.

Why oh why oh why do all the Sebring practise sessions have to be on in the early hours of the morning? It's not so bad when it's the weekend (like it is for the Grand Prix) but asking me to do that on a Monday morning when I have sign language class in the evening is just asking for trouble!

Skype's always crash happy. I use it on my normal phone and it sits all day signing itself in and out. It sometimes even crashes my whole phone as well as itself... It also likes to phone Steven :D

Interesting. Surely Skype has the momentum though?

Skype has 3 advantages: self-contained in one program, IM and uses (secure) web traffic.

Linphone uses SIP, needs a SIP provider (*cough*I work for one*cough*) but is on an open standard and free.

I don't think I've read the last 4, they're still sitting on my table waiting for me. Every month I was like 'surely I'll get a renewal letter soon, my subscription must be up by now'

I'd want to keep it if it was digital too but paper, noooo make it stop :( I can't even find any contact details for them to tell them to stop :(

    Hey everyone.

  • Steven Roy21/02/2011 at 23:53

    Hi Dan

I think we have taken step towards sidepodpanel. Mr C has a Windows machine for Skype and the call was set up in ten minutes. I know it will be at least 6 months before we get one.

  • Alison21/02/2011 at 23:54

    Bassaaaaaaaanooooooo!!!

  • Dan Brunell22/02/2011 at 00:20

Some points that I would of brought up and probably would of taken way too much time to illustrate:

    - Seeing how unstable the region is, I don't think it is far fetch to think the Abu Dubai GP or other races might be in question.

    - Agree with Pat on the FIA.

    - I agree with Steven that Bahrain is one of Tilke better tracks. I still think the one in Turkey and Malaysia aren't bad. My problem with Tilke is his style of track is dominating the schedule. The type of tracks on the schedule are becoming standardized, thus not rewarding cars of different designs or providing different challenges to the engineers.

Looks like they had two in quick succession. A 5.6 and a 6.3. That shouldn't be enough to destroy a cathedral
