Sunday has arrived, and with it brings a live show... but not from us. Giggles Radio is scheduled to begin at 4pm today, so I hope you will join Alex as he brings us some excellent music with added chatter to go with it. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're keeping an eye on:

  • Mr C has been making some more tweaks, this time the Sidepodcast Feed. If you subscribe to keep up with the blog posts, you should know find an added bit at the bottom of each entry so you can check the ratings, click through to comments and find related posts directly from your chosen feed reader.
  • If you've been struggling to keep up with everything from testing in Jerez, then F1 Minute is here for you! Yesterday I posted a special episode to catch up with the final day, but there is 60 second coverage for each day of testing, including who was fastest, who was slowest, weather updates, and of course, who was causing all the red flags.
  • It was a day of guest posts yesterday as firstly Lewis discussed two separate events at Silverstone and how they compare and contrast, and then Lukeh told us why he's looking forward to the upcoming season and why we should too. It's a great insight into the mind of a Rubens fan, obviously, but there is also plenty of optimism to go round.

That should do it for now. We should have a podcast along either later today or some time tomorrow, and as ever, I will see you in the comments.

Hey everyone. Watching a bit of DANICAR...

    this is getting ridiculous...

All I can say is NASCAR and Danica on their second date is just as annoying as they were on the first.

  • me21/02/2010 at 00:16

    WOW!

i want to see an f1 car on that!

  • lou21/02/2010 at 00:16

i want to see an f1 car on that!

i want to see an f1 full stop. it's been tooooo long!! :)

  • me21/02/2010 at 00:16

i've been watching people bitch about it on twitter for hours.

turn it off and talk to us!

    I see

  • lou21/02/2010 at 00:18

you do know theres been testing on right?

but i haven't been able to watch it live!.. and i haven't heard an f1 car in the flesh since the Mercedes event. that's too long. I also can't wait to actually hear a car at a race. i've become impatient with the off season.

  • Pat W21/02/2010 at 00:18

I thought it was a touch better. They aren't doing quite as much fawning and they are following the leaders at least.

well if the americans are going to play poor shots like that why would they discuss tea and dundee cake?

Time out in curling? It's not an AMerican sport. Why does it need a time out?

apparently in every game they come out to bagpipes playing, so you may not be that far off

  • Dan Brunell21/02/2010 at 00:36

I love the Minnesota accents on the American team.

    You do understand it

You throw a stone, you have to land it in hte target, closest and most in the center wins. simple

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 00:37

I think time outs should be banned in all sports. Let the people playing the game get on and play it

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 00:40

It annoys me in all sports. I hate that the manager or coach in baseball can go out and talk to his pitcher.

I think it is one of the big differences between European and American sports. European sports tend to be about the players where American sports are about the coaches as they can constantly interfere with the game

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 00:40

It is done like that in some sports but baseball can get silly. The pitcher will get in trouble and they stop while half his team has a chat with him then he will throw one pitch and the manager will stroll out and have a word then another couple of pitches and another chat. Then eventually he gets hooked and the replacement goes in.

  • Maverick21/02/2010 at 00:43

they probably just think a cow has wandered away from the herd

i've got relatives in vancouver - have a ridiculous amount of olympic merchandise

If Bernie thought he would get away with competition yellows he would do it tomorrow

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 00:44

Absolutely. I can't go to Baseball games anymore because they literally take 5-6 hours. It is so easy to fix. You can't step out the batter box or it is a strike. The pitchers has a 30 second clock and if they break that then it is a ball. Only the ump can call time.

Bobsleigh confuses me. I'm not sure what you do to affect the speed of it other than running faster at the beginning. It appears to be a glorified sprint race.

You have to steer a good line in the corners to maintain momentum like the luge or skeleton or that thing with the noisy engines on a Sunday afternoon

  • Maverick21/02/2010 at 01:06

you can steer so racing line, and using the brake as little as possible

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 01:07

I can't see the attraction to being the back man in a bobsleigh. You sit there with your neck at a painful angle hoping the lunatic in front is not going to kill you

I can't see the attraction to being the back man in a bobsleigh. You sit there with your neck at a painful angle hoping the lunatic in front is not going to kill you

on the plus side you control the brake, so if your are about to head to your doom you can try and do something about it

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 01:09

I don't like the look of this at all. I got friction burns in a toboggan before. I'm not going to tell you what I was doing when I got them. It was moronic.

    Geoff Bodine built a bobsleigh??

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 01:12

You can't make a statement like that and leave us hanging

No I guess not.... I was daft enough to wear a skirt in a toboggan. It only occured to me that it was very stupid as I got to the top.... Basically the hem flew away and I got so preoccupied tucking it under my legs that I burned my whole arm down the wall of the run. It was awful.

  • Amy21/02/2010 at 10:40

Well I might make it. Sounds like a good chance to get closer to the teams?

not really, they keep their garages closed up which is a shame, last year McLaren left a wing out in front and a few teams left out an engine cover, but theres not a lot to see. The driver interviews are good just because it's always exciting to see a driver in the flesh. They didn't do any in 2008 so hopefully they'll do some this year.

I thought their was a break before the men started playing tennis, but alas, no let up!

I can't get enough of the Olympics it seems. The only events I refuse to watch are the Figure Skating ones!

Oh yeah, last night we went round to the Outlaws for dinner. My IT task for the evening was to install a wireless printer on a 4 year old Ferrari Laptop.

It was so full of rubbish and clutter that it had 2 different Antivirus programs on it - plus they have bought an HP printer so it was a right 'mare to install!

Apparently I have been offered the Laptop for free though...

  • Journeyer21/02/2010 at 14:03

As long as the processor is fine and there aren't too many bad sectors on the HD, it should be all right.

I was going to go karting in Newark today, but it got cancelled when I looked out of the window this morning.

To give you an idea of why it was cancelled, Dad was supposed to be in a sailing race today and it got cancelled - because halfway through what should have been the first race there was a pile of snow sitting on the ice in the middle of the lake...

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 19:53

A widespread attack has hit Twitter this weekend, tricking users into logging into a fake Twitter page — and thus handing their account details over to hackers. Messages include Lol. this is me?? / lol , this is funny. / ha ha, u look funny on here / Lol. this you?? followed by a link... Clicking on the link redirects users to the second-half of the link, where the fake login page is hosted

I had an offer for a hotel for Spa. Dad knows people around Europe through work (he's Export Manager) and a man in Germany thinks he can get us a good rate in Aachen which is just over the border. Should be about 45 mins to Spa on a normal day, but I'm wary of the fact it will take longer on GP week. He needs to know how many of us are likely to stay and then he'll see what rate he can get. Just an option.

He needs to know how many of us are likely to stay and then he'll see what rate he can get. Just an option.

I'd consider it but don't plan on driving to the track and back each day. I'd imagine an hour at least each way and then there's the transport costs...

    Worth asking though

Aaaaargh how do they not have broken legs??

  • Pat W21/02/2010 at 20:17

Same track as the snowboarder cross. MENTAL

    and faster it looks!

that hurt for that guy too

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:17

    Almost a double wipeout!

    This is quality stuff!

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 20:17

Yeah staff and everyone are fine. A customer tried to drag her outside though and ended up getting punched. As I urged him to leave her alone, I don't really feel responsible for this.....

    No security?

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:18

Aaaaargh how do they not have broken legs??

To me the American took out the other guy

    Luck, I'm guessing

There's a Kiwi in it somewhere - you can guarantee he will be a nutter!

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 20:20

    He did a 360!

  • RG21/02/2010 at 20:20

There's a Kiwi in it somewhere - you can guarantee he will be a nutter!

    I don't think he qualified.

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:20

    No security?

    Hahahahaha no such luck.

I'd have been absolutely fine if this guy hadn't got involved and basically assaulted drunk girl. That's what got her aggressive, she was just drunk before then.... I'm literally 2 minutes from the police station, they'd have been there as soon as I called, I don't get why he couldn't leave her alone. Who would get involved like that.

He's been charged with assault and battery.

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:20

I am watching the NASCAR Auto Club 500 at California Speedway. Montoya started on the front row, and he's going to lead the first lap!

Watch the Ski Cross instead - a Jamaican called Errol just won!

  • Scott Woodwiss21/02/2010 at 20:22

I am watching the NASCAR Auto Club 500 at California Speedway. Montoya started on the front row, and he's going to lead the first lap!

Apparently teammate and Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray says JPM's car looks very very good especially on the long runs.

I am watching the NASCAR Auto Club 500 at California Speedway. Montoya started on the front row, and he's going to lead the first lap!

Not even if they have sharks with laser beams strapped to the roof of the cars

  • Scott Woodwiss21/02/2010 at 20:23

Meh, Winter Olympics don't really interest me.

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:25

That's nowhere near as bad as this. There were falls. Tangling someone else's skis seems like a fast track to a broken leg.

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:25

No way it's better than Ski Cross!

Meh, Winter Olympics don't really interest me.

You are kidding. There has been some awesome stuff in the speed skating, sliding, skiing - almost everything has been awesome.

Much more enjoyable than NASCAR - you do realise that this race is expected to be a bit boring, right?

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:25

    It's Nascar

The word on the web today is that this particular race may not have much excitement. I don't even bother unless it's a short track or highlights TBH.

And the Figure Skating. Funnily enough I have enjoyed the women's curling ;)

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:27

My friend was saying something about a bobsleigh crash?

Yeah the Brits had a bad crash and got DSQ'd but they are ok...

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:28

My friend was saying something about a bobsleigh crash?

We found out that if you had one of those suits it would have made no difference to your arm. There were quite a few big crashes including the British team

No Script Firefox add-on FTW [I'd imagine]

There are two more runs in the two man then there is the 4 man so you should see some of it

You like the Bobsleigh because they crash better? wierdo!

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:31

So they're allowed team orders in the skiing? :P

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:32

You like the Bobsleigh because they crash better? wierdo!

Yah! Everyone loves a crash!. I looked it up, it looked sore though. Sorer than my arm, I'd bet....

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:32

So they're allowed team orders in the skiing? :P

Clearly if they had team orders they didn't stick to them

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:32

Clearly if they had team orders they didn't stick to them

I think they did until one guy just fell over....

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:34

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:34

He was pushing the other guy along!!!

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:35

He was pushing the other guy along!!!

Team orders only work until one racer thinks he can gain an advantage by breaking them. 5 seconds is probably not to far away

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:38

    Noooo go Canada man!

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:40

    You working early tomorrow?

Nothing is going to stop me seeing a landing unless they scrub and go for the second window an hour and a half later. It's not like I am stranger to 3am

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:40

Eurgh not go this Canada man!

He sounds like a right piece of work.....

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 20:40

It's not like I am stranger to 3am

    That's what I was thinking :)

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 20:42

Sounds like the type of guy you want your kids to avoid ;)

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:42

The coverage of all these events has been fabulous. I don't think they have missed a possible camera angle

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:43

Sounds like the type of guy you want your kids to avoid ;)

Yeah. Broke his neck skiing off a ravine drunk.... Jailed for driving under the influence....

Why have the Canadians accepted him on their team?

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 20:43

The coverage of all these events has been fabulous. I don't think they have missed a possible camera angle

and every guy has a camera on his head, such a great idae, they shoul do it for more events

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 20:44

    Because he's AMAZING. love him

Because he ticks all of the nutter boxes?

  • Alison21/02/2010 at 20:45

    Because he's AMAZING. love him

But he's American. He was thrown off the American team in the past and they won't have him back so he started competing for Canada.... They must be really scraping the barrel. I have no patience for DUI.

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:45

There is something wrong about Jamaicans on skis

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:47

But he's American. He was thrown off the American team in the past and they won't have him back so he started competing for Canada.... They must be really scraping the barrel. I have no patience for DUI.

I agree on the DUI. Just wait and see who gets a British passport in the next two years. Host countries are always despearte to win. It will be ten times worse then Zola Budd

  • RubberGoat21/02/2010 at 20:50

There is something wrong about Jamaicans on skis

I said that when my mate from Trinidad came skiing with us - yet in one hour he was already better than most of us!

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:51

I dread to think how close the semis and final are going to be when all the competitors are more even

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 20:51

I agree on the DUI. Just wait and see who gets a British passport in the next two years. Host countries are always despearte to win. It will be ten times worse then Zola Budd

We do pretty well in the Summer olympics, they shouldnt need to bring in too many new faces

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:56

Some of those replays look like ghost images because they are so close

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 20:58

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 21:02

    Was thinking that

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 21:08

    so....

    snowboarder cross

    or

    ski cross

    ?

  • Bassano21/02/2010 at 21:09

    That was a good'un

    snowboard cross

  • Jon Waldock21/02/2010 at 21:10

    Both at the same time

    now that would be awesome

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 21:10

I think I prefer the skis but I need to see more of both

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 21:11

    now that would be awesome

The problem would be designing a track so that they were equal

  • lou21/02/2010 at 21:11

    so....

    snowboarder cross

    or

    ski cross

    ?

    or the baftas?..

He is one of those people that you get the impression it would be hard for him not to do it. He seems to have calmed down a bit so maybe he could retire and make it stick. Or maybe he will try skier cross

She is not exactly an expert. Her sport is horse racing. The guy next to her is Alain Baxter who won a bronze in the slalom at the last Olympics then lost it for a drugs offence so I will believe him

I think it was something in an inhaler he has for asthma. His inhaler ran out in the USA so he bought the same brand he always used but the US version had something in it that the UK version did not.

it's a bit extreme, but they have certain individual substances in which in larger amounts could be used to improve performance, so you get their bigger point, but its still silly

There was a guy in the luge who was the favourite for the last Olympics and he had a hair loss problem going back to childhood. He used ahair restorer and while he was preparing for his runs an official pulled him aside to say he was not allowed to run because they had found some traces of a banned substance. A few days after the race they decided that it wasn't banned

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 22:24

The trouble is they not only have to ban anyone with traces of the drugs in their systeom but anyone who has traces of things that are used as masking agents.

No Englishman is going to know that. Like many Scottish words there are numerous meanings depending on the situation. For example you can guddle fish. Tickling trout in English but I don't see how that applies in curling

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 22:39

I assume in the case of curling he was using guddle to mean mess

There are many Scots dictionaries online. This one seems quite good on a quick scan http://www.dsl.ac.uk/ . Even www.dictionary.com gives a few definitions for guddle which are probably more understandable for foreigners

Uh-oh. I like WLR because it is light and basic. Like all software, they feel the need to constantly improve it by adding more features until it becomes bloated and slow :(

Are there any alternatives to it worth trying BTW? Just out of interest, like...

1443: You may have heard the curling commentators referring to the word "guddle" just now. Half of Scotland has texted in to inform the world that a guddle is Scottish slang for "a mess". I wasn't listening at the time. Were they referring to the British curling results so far?

No idea. I wasn't watching but I would have thought it was more likely to be used in a messy end with stones all over the place

    Hello All.

While we're 'asking Steven', can I check with you the lyrics of 500 Miles by the Pretenders?

Does 'haver' mean sing or vomit?

I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you

And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be

I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 23:34

Does 'haver' mean sing or vomit?

Neither. The closest English word to haver isto waffle but that isn't accurate. Think of a child getting home with mud all over his clothes explaining to his mother why it wasn't his fault and making up excuses. He's havering

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 23:37

    #sidepodspace

The shuttle is due to land at 3:20 am UK time. They have just been told to close the payload bay doors which means they think there is a good chance that they will land either then or on the next orbit an hour and a half later. However weather (what else) is no go now and is forecast to be no go at the first landing time. Problems include low cloud - 6000 feet - and showers within 30 km of the landing site.

That's correct - ibuprofen is on the WADA list and it was in fact responsible for the last two F1 drug test failures (Rubens Barrichello and Max Papis back in 1995). Since the FIA established that nobody connected with either driver had the foggiest idea that the cold remedies they'd been taking could be against the regulations, no penalty was levied, but awareness has been raised considerably since then.

    Thank you!

I have wanted to know that for years. Every time I have heard the song, I've thought to myself that I must make the effort to find an answer, but I haven't. Very slack of me.

  • Alianora La Canta21/02/2010 at 23:43

By the way, I have a blug alert. I've analysed the latest revision to the 2010 Sporting Regulations. That's the one that happened 10 days ago, as opposed to the one that happened 2 months ago which I analysed separately.

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 23:43

No problem. The biggest difficulty with this sort of thing is it depends which part of the country a word is used in. There were originally something like 16 Scottish languages and words from all of them are still used but most only in the local area that the language was used in. As a result words used in Aberdeen are just as foreign to me as anyone from the opposite end of the planet

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 23:46

I love that definition. Must find an excuse to use it :D

It's always difficult giving good definitions of these words because although I have been using them since I was a kid I use them as an alternative to any English phrase so never have any crossover. The old words that survive are those that can't be properly expressed in English

  • Steven Roy21/02/2010 at 23:52

NASA scare me. Just heard a communication between the ground and the shuttle. They are working through the procedures to prepare for landing and mission control just said "If you have something to write with I will give you some modifications to the procedure". Can't they just ping it up on the computer screen? Is the ability to land the shuttle dependent on not running out of ink in the driver's pen? They are in permanent radio contact why not just remind him at the time rather than risk him forgetting he wrote a note?
