Hi there. I'm a bit late writing today's daily post as I spent all of last night fixing my mother-in-law's power shower. It was in turns fun and a bit stressful, and I ended up quite damp, but the astonishing discovery is that I really quite like doing DIY. However, it is time to concentrate on Formula 1 related stuff, and here is some:
- There's been a bit of a shuffle around at Campos as Colin Kolles - formerly of Force India - has become team principal, alongside new investor José Ramón Carabante. We have a breakout thread on the topic, and it's fair to say the news hasn't come as an enormous surprise, but it's good to see the team have some investment, and they may gain some momentum as we get closer to the season.
- Webber was on top for the third day in Jerez this week, after finally a day with plenty of dry running. I haven't managed to do F1 Minute yet (see shower related issues above), but the sixty second catchup will be along as soon as possible. For the second day in a row there were four red flags, one of which was caused by the pace sitter Webber. Oops. Most of the attention was on Lotus vs Virgin Racing again, though, and it looks like Lotus are winning the pre-season battle.
- Finally, and actually this is not F1 related, but Lady Snowcat has written us an excellent guest post reliving her recent trip to Sweden to watch Kimi rallying. The post includes some excellent descriptions of what it was like to be a spectator at the event, and I feel cold just reading about it!
That's all for now. Let us know what you're up to this weekend, and I will see you in the comments.
It's the weekend now
What am I doing up this late? I am never up this late.
Maybe Christine and Bassano are the killer DIY team?
Watching the skeleton? Watching the space shuttle? Both? Neither?
I can see them splitting up over drilling differences. They both want to drill
It feels like it's one of those special days where everyone is up late.
Have drill, will drill.
I am SO excited
Bassano went to bed at 10pm. This is an odd night
About DIY?
neither we were out to dinner with a friend the wonderfully named Anna Bird (a bird). And we were having a lovely time and suddenly it's quarter past 1
Having said that, it is about time I went to bed, so goodnight all. Happy Olympics, etc.
I can't multitask, yet I'm watching Olympics, NASA TV, and listening to Buzz Out Loud, and commenting. Shh, don't tell work.
yeah. I know what you mean.
Night Christine
#oppositeman
night
I feel like I am slacking not listeng to a podcast as well
me too see you later everyone. Just wanted to record the lateness of it all with everyone :)
He says he is going to do it every night for a week. Don't believe him
see you later
Godd night Alex
Go Shelley!
Good run
A medal? Are they in cloud cuckoo land?
Needs a few crashes for that to happen
I forgot that I have Tweetdeck running as well, but I can't fit that on the screen. Need another monitor.
I really am slacking then
Crashes off the run into competitors that happen to be near the track?
Actually I shouldn't joke about that. I'm sure the commentator mentioned one of the men being injured in a bobsleigh crash. Thing is, they weren't in the bobsleigh.
That happens. With the skeleton they tend to keep hold of it if they hit something but with the bob they get dumped on the ice
Nooo I mean he was doing skeleton stuff somewhere. And there was a freak accident where a bobsleigh crashed into him and broke his leg.
Am delaying bedtime until the Skeleton is over.
They had a skeleton and a bob on the track at the same time? Was the event being run by Singapore marshals
hello all
Hi Joe
I think the bob crashed out of the run and happened to hit an olympic athlete.... What are the odds.
Has Piquet taken up the bobsleigh
Hey Joe.
Awww I'm torn. I like the British lady. But I always support athletes of the host nation....
easy there, he's doing well driving in circles now
Oh no. Go Canada lady!
Pretty good. If there's a way...
:)
That's very sporting of you. She was unlucky to have a fourth run like that after three good ones
Are you on time delay? She has already run on TV
COME ON AMY!!!!
I just like them to do well in their own country! I don't really have much patriotism of my own.
*pauses Buzz Out Loud, turns up BBC volume*
Great run by Amy
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
WOOHOOO! Go Amy!
I can concentrate on NASA TV now that that is finsihed.
Normally the flyaround pictures are a lot better. The camerawork is terrible this time. It's like NASA don't want anyone to watch
It looked like something from the '80s earlier.
Russian lady appears to still be alive!
Normally the pictures of the planet behind the ISS are incredible but the colour is awful and they are zoomed right in on a small section of the station that is not even the new bit. Hopefully when they come back round the light will be better and they will have the full station with the Earth behind it
Now time for bed.
Night All.
No idea how. She was crazy
adios!
Night sb
well worth all the sneaking about. officially saying night now, byeee
Good night.
#confidential
night rg
Medal ceremony already? They don't hang around
No. This is the flowers ceremony. The medals are 3am tomorrow. They faff around!!
The flowers ceremony? Since when has there been a flowers ceremony?
Yeah see your mistake was to confuse their faffing about with efficiency!
Ok this is unacceptable.
My download of Sense and Sensibility is done, but my download of Rally Sweden Day 1 is stuck at 98%!!
By the time you have watched the film the rally should be ready
they're for the wife. So I won't be watching them unless I'm unlucky enough to get stuck in the room while she's watching them :)
Men's skeleton about to start. Anyone around for it?
Unfortunately yes.
Can't sleep?
Fastest going first
Yeah. I'm up at 9.45 tomorrow so I guess I still have a chance of a reasonable volume of sleep before then.
And they say romance is dead....
hehehe
That seals it. Men and women have the same start in the skeleton....
Doesn't make any sense but they do
I don;t get sport some times
Was walking through the cooking equipment section of Target today.
Saw the toasters.
I almost started to cry, thinking "I coulda had a USF1 toaster, but they cocked it up!"
I'll never look at a toaster again without thinking about them
By the sounds of the rumours Money is the issue....but a USF1 toaster would bring millions in!
i think I am going to print off the USF1 logo and tape it to my toaster as a memeorial.
Would it have 220v for the Euro guys or 110v for us stateside?
afternoon all
With USF1 designing it I would expect 37.5 Volts and 43 Volts
Morning
I could do with some morning, I missed doing everything I wanted to do today because when I woke up it was 2.45pm. Oops.
That is going to ruin your morning. I assume you are not working then,
nope, not this weekend. I have a bit of shopping and lots of washing to do but I'm sure it can wait until tomorrow.
That's the attitude
procrastination is my best asset
:D
well it is only 3.30 so I could get lots of shopping done still, but eh, then I'd have to get out of my pyjamas.
The skeleton is on. Way more important
I just realised I don't watch the olympics when I'm not at work. Probably because the free to air coverage is shocking.
Only two more runners to go so not much more to see
the kiwi guy who sucked yesterday pulled out of todays running, I know that much. :D
The Canadian is leading with only the Latvian to go. THe Canadian's run was a monster
The Latvian was ahead from the first run and was ahead at all the splits on the last run but behind at the finish line. Canadian wins
that will make the locals happy
They seem happy
I think 4:30ish is a good time to go to bed. Should be up by 2:30.
Good night
night!
Night Steven.
I have changed my mind and am going shopping because I really want that grape juice. I am taking a tram instead of walking though because I still am felling lazy.
Mmmmm... Hockey or couples figure skating... I wonder which one I am going to watch....
Ken Anderson in NY Times - U.S. Team Struggling to Reach Start Line
So this end game. USF1 can't make the first race. Stefan GP can. The FIA has already ruled that you can't miss a race this year.
Not good.
Ken thinks the FIA wants to help him rather than shut him down. It's a dog-eat-dog sport, Ken. If Campos found a way, why can't you?
Seems he is drifting even further away from reality ...
The problem is, that no one like Penske or Ganassi want any part of Formula One.
My reaction.
I like the choice of the image in the header on your site
Seemed apt for the situation.
Morning All
More testing today can't wait!!
What is the current weather out in spain anyone?
according to twitter it's good
Thanks Amy
I'm at yas, had pit lane access for the support paddock. I felt a bit like Ted!
Nice
Morning everyone :)
Do you have an affinity with him?
Morning
Re the confusion about missing races my guess is that like most things with F1 both things are true. You probably can miss races and take part if the other teams all agree but you won't be eligible for prize money. Which of course would mean it would be a pretty worthless proposition.
Just to be clear I have no idea if that is the way it is, what I mean is that my guess is that there will be two interpretations of what taking part means or something.
I will be getting a brand new Macbook in the next 2 weeks. This will be my first Mac. any advice or stuff i should know. I am currently on a mobileme trial and will host a f1 website and blog from it to my personal domain (formulatech.co.uk)!
I've learnt its very hard to be in the way during a stop and not be in the way!
I don't think you'll have too many problems but the best tip is to keep a sidepodcast bookmark to hand there a lot of friendly users around here who will be able to help you out I'm sure.
Thanks
Anyone else following the testing today?
The times as they stand with just over three hours gone, laps in brackets: 1 Button 1m18.871s (21), 2 Kubica 1m19.114s (54), 3 Liuzzi 1m19.650s (29), 4 Rosberg 1m20.150s (37), 5 Alonso 1m20.436s (43), 6 Kobayashi 1m20.751s (30), 7 Alguersuari 1m21.053s (53), 8 Webber 1m21.194s (43), 9 Hulkenberg 1m21.919s (63), 10 Glock 1m22.856s (8), 11 Trulli 1m24.641s (51)

pre-dict-able
Anderson insisted that both co-founder Peter Windsor and investor Chad Hurley, who co-founded YouTube, are still involved with the project. Windsor told AUTOSPORT's Grapevine column earlier this week: "I am still with the team", while the latter responded with: "Peter is still here at the moment, not sure what he is up to, stay tuned."
Morning all... just.
All that DIY has worn us out! Plus I woke up at 6am with wicked cramp in my leg. We're about to watch LOST, will catch up with testing later.
How is everyone today?
You can come and finish my bedroom if you like. I've painted all the woodwork and done the first coat on three of the walls but there's still a second coat and the fourth wall to do...
Good thanks, very tired, bed at 3 after watching the Skeleton, mega-awesome though, well worth it!
How are you?
Wasn't the camera work and directing great on the skeleton - really captured the speed
What colours?
It's clearly my favourite winter sport, it totally rocks.
chocolate and a pale cream, does the colour effect whether you take the job?
would you say that if you hadn't won :D
my favourite winter olympic sport is the snowboard cross, I wish more kiwis did that instead of halfpipe.
they fly down an icy tube on a tea tray - what's not to like about it? :-D
I get a little bored after a while because every run looks the same
Well yea. I can't spend all day painting something horrible yellow. If it has the word chocolate in it, though, I'm sold.
sounds like F1 when you put it that way ;-)
i totally would, its totally awesome
good good. About to bake cake
I could say the same about F1 ;)
good job Mrs Maverick said no to British Racing Green with yellow stripe then...
at least they don't race on the same track 4 times in a row :D
FP1
FP2
FP3
Q1
Q2
Q3
Race
umm?
Afternoon all
Mmm. That'll do nicely for breakfast :)
only one of those is a race
none of the skeleton peoples race?
well they try and beat each others times. Lets compare it to qualifying instead. :D
Hoorah!
I would say Skeleton is more hill climb (just backwardS)
Gooood afternoon all.
Goodafternoon Mr RG
Afternoon
I'm so existed about getting a mac very very soon
iPad Pro?

lol nope a macbook
Good afternoon from Mrs. Goat and myself! We are just on the Train home after seeing another apartment in Copenhagen. We are cautiously optimistic after the let down last week but it looked really nice :)
Just doing a bit of planning for the new website in ms powerpoint will upload for feedback to the drop.io/sidepodcast.

love this picture
lol
bit quite in the comments today
bangadebangadebongbahbong
I have a pop shield.... phew... It's a bit larger than I thought!
6" in case you are curious people
I went to the depot to pick it up and the guy handed it to me and said, reading from the package, "here you go Alex".
It was strangely unnerving.
ooohh, spooky
I wonder how quickly it takes to get used to it if you have a name badge. I haven't ever had a job where I'm required to wear one. But that must be quite weird too.
Not many have $8million though
That's true but if they are serious about even being able to make Barcelona which I doubt they need to be putting some good news out. They have done nothing to show any progress and Mr professional communicator Windsor seems to have gone into hiding.
If they are looking for the FIA to stretch the rules further than they ever have before they need to be winning the media battle by showing that they will make Barcelona and that there is a serious interest in their team. A big launch with loads of promises followed by complete silence and no sign of any progress is not going to get them permission to miss 4 races. Arrows were thrown out after 20 odd years for missing two or three.
Hello. I've just had a wander around town, it is 'record fair' week and Mum likes to have a look around so I tagged along. Seems there's still a lot of interest in them.
It's not going to be the same in 20 years when they have mp3 fairs
Thanks, it is good to have something coming from them.
F1 Wolf posted it at 7am
I am back from Yas, loads of fun, but unfortunatly the guy who got me the tickets had to be back early :(
Had such an enbeliveable amount of access, Pitlane access in the support paddock, the main paddock was open to all ticket holders, I even managed to sneak into the padock club... good job bernie wasnt there!
So it was better than the GP?
ooops... hello daily thread :)
I can't understand all the radio silence for most of 2009. I'd have spent it doing the rounds of various talk shows and the like, get the name out there, introduce F1 to the people and then go to the sponsors and say "hey look we've been on Letterman". Letterman is a racing man, surely he'd give them air. I'm not saying that going on a chat show is justification for sponsorship, just that it would've helped with awareness.
:-) :-)
well i didnt get to see a race at either event...
Its a trade off, nmoone was there for the V8's and the cars were no where near as interesting.
But that meant i could see more.
I would defiantly choose the F1 though, but it was amazing being able to walk around the paddock.
Standing in the pitlane while they did GT pitstops was an incredible experience.
I have also discovered a secret sneakey way to watch the F1 there on the cheap ;)
That should have been happening from the day after the announcement. Build a constituency then when you get into sponsorship difficulties you have a fan club and momentum in place and merchandise sales to show the return to a prospective sponsor. If nothing else had they done that they could have been doing the chat shows before Xmas saying that they had done everything they could but American business was not prepared to back them and possibly use emotional blackmail to get a sponsor.
Going on TV spouting off about openess and access then bolting the doors and saying nothing all year was crazy
You have to concentrate when you are in a working pitlane. Every step has to be considered
It wasnt too bad for me, the guys i was with though dont really watch racing, when the saftey car came out i found myself a corner, they ended up huddling in the garage!
Afternoon all.
Hi Christine :)
Afternoon!
I really need to get on with sorting out writting about Yas, I had an awesome time there today :)
bye chris!
the over use of punctuation had me wondering
i knew from twitter, i liked to something earlier and within a minute it was on twitter
the stupidity of some people has me worried for our great countries education system!
not even steven noticed, though.
anyway, hi, everyone. anything of interest going on at Jerez?
HA!
oops :)
:D
If anyone has it and is interested V8's are about to go at Yas.
The local channel appears to be broadcasting some race control radio feed instead of commentary!
Still don't get why they'd race at silly o'clock in Australia. Unless they were specifically targeting Amy. :D
Coulthard is racing, Although its not david, its his 2nd cousin Fabien
:D I wonder if its even on. I might check the TV listings.
Eh? What?
Its worth it just for the helmet cam onboards!
The guy who you gave Christine's email to (mentioning his username triggers moderation now).
this comment from steve got lost in moderation bouncing it again:
--
McLaren hoody vote is now live, for the second time tonight, after a technical hitch!
http://wp.me/puhRP-7m
Some Sidepodcast Universe designs in there!
I didn't know it was him. Sorry
nope, v8s are not on tv here.
it's okay. he was stupid enough to email christine with his real name.
DOH!
it's all over the site too, so he could have found it that way had you not
*facepalm*
There's nothing to say to that stupidity...
He knows my email already.
If he had used his real name I think I would have noticed. He confused me by asking a sensible question
FAIL
Rofl!
I didn't twig either until that last comment.
they're showing it prime time tomorrow instead but surely the fans would want to see it live :D
apparently its on tomorrow at 1:30
I have no idea whats going on.
I have team radio from one of the ford teams, no comentry, which is a minor blessing
Some of those look like photos. Some people are way too talented.
Shouldn't be allowed should it?
Every time I have seen V8s the commentators seem to spend half their time talking to drivers on the radio
Being talented is just a clever way of cheating
If they are LP's it's because they sound better ;)
Lou or Lukeh, tough call
You can vote up to 3. ;)
You get to vote for three
I can't believe so many people have voted for the hoody that is just a copy of the race suit
The fact that he took a moniker which was one of USF1's suppliers was suspicious!
:d
the helmet hood is very original, though. i seriously considered voting for it.
Good stuff in the Skeleton eh?
Twas an awesome moment
Windsor told AUTOSPORT's Grapevine column earlier this week: "I am still with the team", while the latter responded with: "Peter is still here at the moment, not sure what he is up to, stay tuned." {Comment #136}
Sorry, if the main investor doesn't know what the figurehead is doing with the invested project, then I'd gently suggest it would take more than money to get USF1 onto the grid, disappointing as that is for me to accept.
He has to be kidding. Missing 4 races is a bit more than a little bump in the road. {Comment #178}
There is no eventuality that permits missing 4 races, whichever interpretation of Concorde is in play. USF1 has signed its own death warrant with this statement :(
Alia,
We were discussing the FIA auditing of the new teams that took place a few months ago last night. Do you know if it is correct that the FIA announced that all the new teams had finance and were expected to make the first race.
The only thing I could find on a search was Nick Craw visiting USF1 in October and saying it was progressing welll
Something that MWM discussed and I think is worth thinking about - why is it after these guys got selected that Bernie or the FIA did nothing to help them find sponsors or set deadlines, milestones etc?
Arrows were thrown out after 20 odd years for missing two or three. {Comment #180}
Arrows missed six or seven races, depending on whether you class the farce of their DNQs in France 2002 as a missed race. No official statement was ever made on that race because the FIA were waiting for proof that Arrows could pay for their 2003 season before making a judgement as to whether to throw them out. Arrows was wound up for inability to pay a wide variety of creditors (ranging from the taxman via a glut of suppliers to Heinz-Harald Frentzen) before the FIA needed to lift a finger.
Still, it is almost certain that Arrows would have been given the boot even if Tom Walkinshaw had been able to prove to the FIA that his team was capable of funding the 2003 season.
It's not up to the FIA to find them sponsors but their financial package was supposedly verified on selection and I am sure again late last year hence the question. It makes the selection process look very dodgy and the people involved either incompetent or criminal
But when you hear of the deals Bernie could do (such as find drives for Lopez etc.), you would think it would be in the interests of the sport for him to introduce some people, right?
Instead he makes disparaging comments in the media when he should be saying "Hey, we got this team in Spain, they could make it but need a little help - any one keen on fronting up some cash and I'll set up a meeting"...
Ooh look, Chrysler are first off the block with their Delta Wing Prototype :D
http://www.youdrivewhat.com/?p=1447
We were discussing the FIA auditing of the new teams that took place a few months ago last night. Do you know if it is correct that the FIA announced that all the new teams had finance and were expected to make the first race. {Comment #243}
The FIA announced prior to the teams being selected that it would look carefully at the financial side of the equation and include it in its definition of the "three strongest bids". The implication was that teams would need to have a good financial package or at least a better package than the rival bidders, to be selected (if all else was equal). In any case, Article 13.4 of the 2010 Sporting Regulations states:
"With the exception of those whose cars scored points in the Championship of the previous year, all applicants must supply information about the size of their company, their financial status and their ability to meet their prescribed obligations."
I doubt Campos would have told the FIA that its F1 project would contain only 13 people as of 48 hours ago, nor would US F1 have admitted that its promised media storm wouldn't take place. Even so, I am seriously sceptical of the notion that the FIA did its auditing correctly.
As far as I'm aware, the FIA did not mention that it had announced that all the teams had finance - the regulations said it for them. It may have mentioned that the teams would make the first race, but since the teams had to sign an undertaking that they could do every event upon application (that's Article 13.2 f) ), any such announcement would have been done on trust and have relied upon the auditing being done properly. Since I believe it was the auditing that let the whole process down, the press office might not have realised that there was any reason to doubt a positive result from the audit.
It's easy for him to place a driver with money especially when it gives him access to politicians who may in time be dumb enough to give him a fortune for a race if their boy does well but he can't magic sponsors out of thin air.
His negative comments are unnecessary but it is old fashioned cowboy business tactics like he has always used.
I was watching the shuttle undock from the ISS last night and when we saw the overhead shot of it my first thought was that is where Bowles got his info from
But he has lots of connections - people must be looking to him for a way to get into the sport. It just comes across that he doesn't want to help the new teams out when he could do with little effort.
As always with Bernie and the FIA, their actions always seem to defy common sense and the good of the sport...
Or this? http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/attachments/028454/land_speed_record_spirit_of_america.jpg
Thanks Alia. That confirms my belief that the FIA had audited their finances and are therefore either incompetent, corrupt or both. And this from the people who thought they could control a budget cap. How can you manage a budget cap if you don't know what a budget looks like?
This is exactly why the teams were against a budget cap I reckon!
Something that MWM discussed and I think is worth thinking about - why is it after these guys got selected that Bernie or the FIA did nothing to help them find sponsors or set deadlines, milestones etc? {Comment #244}
They delelegated that task to FOTA during the time the FIA and FOTA were having their little turf war last year. Now FOTA consists of rival established teams and you can guess what sort of motivation they had to fulfil their "enemy's" desire to help them make things more difficult for themselves...
Bernie was on FOTA's side and perhaps still is.
The FIA had a change of leadership partway through. Max Mosley, I guess, may have wanted another stick which which to beat FOTA while Jean Todt was probably just glad that he could spend the time he might have spent sorting out deals for new teams tending to other parts of the FIA's domain and generally establishing a good platform for his time in office.
Over the years Bernie has introduced lots of sponsors to teams and EJ in his book said Bernie kept him in business but right now there are maybe 4 teams that are close to having fully sponsored cars. If there were sponsors out there people would be jumping on them and people way more impressive than a team whose prize asset is a Jimmy Clark print.
It certainly looks more like an old LSR car than a single seater racer
It is amazing that USF1 could not convince any American company to sponsor them though.
How can Chad youtube not drum up $50million when he supposedley started with $20million of it?
It's not up to the FIA to find them sponsors but their financial package was supposedly verified on selection and I am sure again late last year hence the question. {Comment #246}
The only end-of-year verification was that all the teams (new or otherwise) had to send the FIA a €309,000 entry fee by November 1. They could have enclosed it with their entry, or done it any time in between.
Had the budget cap gone through there would have been a second, rather intrusive, verification for all teams racing under the cap, which would presumably have included the new teams.
That is a good point. $50 mill should have got a team on the grid - especially when they were offered Lola's design (which they turned down apparently)...
But when you hear of the deals Bernie could do (such as find drives for Lopez etc.), you would think it would be in the interests of the sport for him to introduce some people, right? {Comment #247}
He has done that, but generally only when new investors have shown interest in F1. There's been a distinct lack of them recently and Bernie tends to avoid poaching investors from one team to another.
If he went to America and America said "No", he probably won't have wasted his time on any long-term charm campaigns. That tends to be left to the teams, with Bernie possibly jumping back in to close the deal if there's a compelling reason for him to do so. It's simply not in Bernie's modus operandi to do the protracted stuff, especially if he receives no direct benefit, but he does love the cut-and-thrust of closing negotiations. Introductions are also done sufficiently swiftly that I think he gets a buzz from them.
He never did know when to take a wonderful opportunity to close his mouth.
That is a good point. $50 mill should have got a team on the grid - especially when they were offered Lola's design (which they turned down apparently)... {Comment #262}
$50m + Lola design probably equals a similar in-value budget to Force India/Toro Rosso. They're managing OK - why didn't USF1?
Bernie checked to see if somebody big would be responsible if he didn't get his fee. He gets his fee if you race or not.
Because I think they did an A1GP and aimed too high too quickly...
If only USF1 hired this guy: http://silentpagoda.com/blog/2010/02/20/happy-birthday-o-captain-our-captain/
bernie is shaking poor competitors loose before they embarress the series. At least I'm sure that's how he sees it.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that he was also attempting to get them to come and ask him for help (a position that puts him in a position of power)
Nick, this may be of interest to you: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/02/19/video-dubai-24h.aspx
probably wrong but I thought the deal was that the budget was 50 million chad provided 20. My guess is nobody provided the 30.
It is amazing that USF1 could not convince any American company to sponsor them though. {Comment #259}
How many teams have managed to convince any new company - of any nationality - to sponsor them in 2009? Not a huge number. Remember Virgin was poached from Brawn, we have no idea when the Malaysians started negotiating with Mike Gascoyne and Sauber's running on a near-empty sponsor platform.
That said, with Chad Hurley on board, it shouldn't have been necessary. Simply put a "double your money" thing in - $50m investment in return for, say, 50% of the sponsor money until Chad had double his money back - and I'm sure he'd have put the whole pot in immediately, thus given them a season's nest egg. It's easier to persuade people to sponsor you if you have a team.
Even so, the USA is still not convinced that F1 offers more value to them than domestic series, meaning that they will tend to pick the domestic series simply through the impact they can have on their home market.
I think those are both good points
I am heading out into the froze north now. See you all later
Probably because we know they are at least plausible!
See ya soon ;)
indeed. And their reason d'être is to be USF1. That means no title sponsorship. That's hard to deal with. Virgin racing is a better proposition than team USF1 blah blah blah. Because everyone calls Ferrari, Ferrari, and Sauber Sauber. The sponsors are often missed off.

I'm listening to the Lady from the British Curling Team explain her sport. Funnily enough, I don't like Curling but I think I am going to need to be told how the sport works a few times at least ;)
another fab guest post, ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/20/silverstone-vs-silverstone/
Greetings from the Land of Soggy Tundra.
I have two questions mr c:
1) Have the technical issues that prevented both of you from doing live shows been addressed yet?
2) News about Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has been rather sparse for a while now, do not you think ?
hullo jordan.
it's not so much a specific technical issue, it's a lack of time. with races about three weeks away, i have to make live commenting more stable, and that's taking all time/effort and then some. i would guess live shows will return around the second race of the season(ish).
i didn't do it ;)
So does that mean you are going to be in trouble from Bernie for missing the first race of the season or is Todt givien you a the first of a possible three free passes?
Ooooph! working "Quote" buttons now! Nice...
hehehe. the team might be having sponsorship difficulties right now, and our two drivers are considering jumping ship :)
:)

evening everyone!
Evening!
evening... What is your current location?
heya
this isn't a stalker thing... I was just wondering if you were over with lou yet or not.
Urrrm, I'm at home? *looks out the window for alex just in case*
Are you angling to move in there and snap lukeh up as soon as he is single?
sadly not. going to london tomorrow though.
!!!!!!
If you are talking about Steven and Scott, then get an ice-cream company on-board as principal sponour so that we can hired Kimi cheaply and call up Franck for the second driver.......It is no big deal. I designed the cockpits to be modular.... Heck we are one of of the few teams that can still shoehorn Mansell into the cockpit if we are really desparate for drivers...
Course if we went with a female driver, I can use the weight savings to adjust the balance on the suspension of each wheel, and still keep the car at the weight limit....Sarah Fisher anyone?
The way he said it it sounded suspicious! :P
tad harsh me thinks
hmmm.
Alison!!!! Nick is being mean to me!!
Sorry... i didint mean to offend!
;)
!!!!
no.
*waves*
oooops!
noooooooooo noooooooooooo i didnt mean it!
*hides*
busted!
Well, I think I am at the wrong web site.... I wanted to go to Sidepodcast, not Connie Street's fan forum....
So it's Saturday night... What's the mood? What's the skinny? What's the sketch?
did anyone just see the Dr Who trailer on BBC1?! Woooooooooooo!!!!!
Oooh, it will be on YouTube soon I hope!
I was away from the laptop having dinner elsewise I would've commented to say :(
But yes, hopefully :D
oooh I have to see it.
Was it good or bad?
It says here it will be on the BBC site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/features/bulletins/bulletin_100217_01
here it is
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/characters/doctor11
Is that the one you saw Lukeh?
Ooh. That's weird.
Yeah the bit in the middle was a bit... um... weird.
i don't understand what your second two questions mean :( #sorryalex
Essentially they mean... "what's going on and what are your plans"
It's interesting that they've made something special (I assume), as opposed to a trailer of what is coming up. Although they had already done that, I suppose.
ooh, alex if you're around. we've upgraded the main rss blog feed today:
http://sidepodcast.com/feed/
still full feeds, but now with added metadata in the footer of each post, such as post ratings, a comment link and related posts. it's still not what i'd call ideal, but at least it puts a lot of the new features in front of people who only read via rss.
feedback as ever, is appreciated.
oooh right *is not really with it today*... my plans include doing lots and lots of work.. yours?
A compromise, if you will.
I am writing a guest post that is nearly done :)
I hope it's not rubbish though... I'm worried I have waffled on
Oooh interesting... I have forced a refresh in google reader and it does seem to have all the cool new stuff... the one thing that seems to have changed is that every post is titled: "Sidepodcast : All for F1, and F1 for All" rather than what that particular post is about. Did you mean to do that?
i think rss will still be lacking when we turn on html5 video/audio. life is fine at the moment in our flash-only world, time will tell though.
:)
I can turn on my special waffle-extractor when I cast an eye over it if you like :)
ahh, i oughta fix that.
i need someone to do that for most of my history essays! :)
Evening! Yay! My post got posted...it caused a stir, huh?
and very good it is too!
feed titles should now be fixed, sorry.
thanks... :)
cool. It's not come back yet but I think the caching is pretty strong on Google Reader.
what was wrong with them (this shows the level of alertness at a typical weekend)?
are you subscribed to the old feedburner feed? that has an extra layer of caching built in, i find this one faster:
http://sidepodcast.com/feed/
That's the one I'm using... it's there now though :)
depending on who you asked. nothing, or everything :)
:)
i'm 90% more happy with them now though, good discussion = better sidepodcast.
well, as long as it's better now... :-)
Have sent my guest post :)
Received :)
I'd like to write another guest post sometime - it was fun listening to everybody's opinion (I think I started an argument!)
This woman on the Super G is yet to finish a ski race....
I think it's time to hang up the ski's....
always welcome sir. we don't argue at spc though, just debate intensely.
hmm ;)
i'm really restless this evening... nothing to do but work.. but i don't want to work. I don't want my holidays to end tomorrow evening :(
iPhone game recommendation - if anyone wants a decent driving/racing game, get GT Racing: Motor Academy. It's basically Gran Turismo for the iPhone/iTouch, and it's very, very good.
Good afternoon everyone.
evening !"
Hullo Dan
I'm going to create another blog, this time all about Forza Motorsport. Any suggestions as to what I could call it?
Hmmm, not sure. I'm no good with blog names as it is :( will have a think though
Thoughts of a Trying Athiest is a good blog name! :)
I always thought that "Digital Apex" would be a good racing game blog name.
It is kind of ripping off a song though ;) but they will never know!
oooh thats good
Ooh, maybe I could use that for the sim racing podcast me and Gavin want to do, whenever we decide to do it. :P
Either that or "Joysticks and Shifts Sticks"
have just realised i may not get to watch the bobsleigh tonight... it's on so late :(
Boo, damn time zones :(
As well as sending in a guest post, I haz been blogging about USF1 and my perhaps-critical views about today's news
http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2010/02/20/no-sympathy-given/
Evening folks :)
Hey Alison. How are you?
Good thankyou although early mornings don't suit me! I'm interviewing this week so I need to do days. Hopefully I can hire someone that lets me work less :P
What be going on here??
yay :)
Nick was mean :( http://j.mp/9KRQ2j
:)
What's new..... :P
Evening all!!
It's ages since I've commented here, so thought I'd pop by and say hello :)
Hullo :)
heya
hey, where's ya been saira?
Nowhere really, just keep forgetting about SPC *runs away*
running away isn't going to help!
infact thats only compounding the reason you're running away!
hehe, don't fear! Still here...
I've got my new blog name - The Forza Fast Lane. :P
Yay!
And a tagline (i think): News, views and stories from the FM tarmac.
Hmm, I could do better... :P
phew!
i'm disappointed christine hasn't built anything this evening.
not even any brownies?
I want to build a brownie :(
i'm really not with it :(... you know what i mean...
I liked the idea! I really want some. I don't have money for ingredients until I get paid though....
Even Bob the Builder gets days off.
do you charge double for weekend callouts?
Can someone help me install a Wordpress theme please? :)
wp.com?
you cant unless you're on wp.org
Ah. Bugger.
muchos.
you could sign up to a free host, download wp.org onto it, get a domain for a couple of quid a year and do it that way, but you'll have to get someone else to help you know how to do that :D because i suck.
Also, don't do that. Not worth it just for a theme.
I've just downloaded wp.org. What's the next step?
how comes?
Everything you could ever possibly want to know: http://codex.wordpress.org/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start
Ooh, thanks :)
To get hosting, a domain, manage the updates, backups and ftp is not worth it just for a theme. If you have other reasons to, then sure.
*too
Greetings all.
I have a little problem and I know you lot will have the answer. I have just posted 3 pictures on dropio of a device that looks like a George Foreman Grill but instead of grilling meat you put little balls of pastry dough in and get pastry cases out. I saw it on TV but despite trawling through the net I can't find who makes them or where to get one. I am sure you won't be surprised to know this is not for me
Now why did I instantly think of the Playstation 3 when I read that bit? :P
http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/148621/your-favourite-pastry-maker
Jon,
You are a star
yay!
Hi again. I've been watching ridiculous amounts of racing, I may have square eyes and sleepy legs.
FYI, I won't be watching, but I think Danica's second start in the Nationwide Series is in one hour.
we're you watching come dine with me?
surely for the same reason you're not using it?
You were a little too good at finding that :P Do you have one??
*confused*
I am using it?
aha no, im just lucky. google it and look at the images section often provides quicker results
even though you suck at it?
I meant i suck at downloading it, my host have an auto-wordpress button, it does it all for you.
ahh, ok.
Strangely enough I was at my mother's and her friend was in and just as it started she said she hadn't seen it for ages but the last time she had they had this really clever gadget on it. Turned out to be the same episode.
Just found the same thing for half price
http://www.teamuki.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Party_and_entertainment__11.html
the whole downloading process into the ftp deal-y still confuses me, but once its all set up im well away, the editor is very easy to use
Hehehe I don't really understand what it's supposed to do or why that'd be desirable?
My mum just tried to convince me that Peter Kay and Vernon Kay are brothers because what she's reading says "brothers".....
FAIL
I guess it gives you a perfect shape, my pastry often has a mind of its own
It makes cake cases. So if you wanted to make strawberry tarts for example instead of having to spend forever making the pastry part all you do is make the pastry dough stick it in the machine and strawberry tart bases appear.
But isn't it just balls of dough?
and canipays (such bad spelling)
You put balls in and get the proper shape out
Ahhhhh I see.... I really don't make enough pastry for that to be a worrying problem for me.
looks like fun!
It turns out I may have been making a HUGE fail. like mahusive
I think the pool i swim in is 50m long....not 25m like I thought it was....which means I swim double what i think i do.
oops
isn't that good?..
very.
very good infact
More fun that Red Bull muffins?
How is that a fail?
a good fail, but a fail none the less
ummmm...
i'm not falling for that.
It is pretty dense :D
You must be a very poor estimator of distance :P
apparently so!
im looking at pictures now, and im confused. will just have to ask next time igo
It looks like things are improving at the FIA. They already have a provisional WRC calendar and it is only February
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81621
Should have said there is a Yas rally. Bet Nick will like that
I have just posted 3 pictures on dropio of a device that looks like a George Foreman Grill but instead of grilling meat you put little balls of pastry dough in and get pastry cases out. I saw it on TV but despite trawling through the net I can't find who makes them or where to get one. I am sure you won't be surprised to know this is not for me
Ooh, I saw that episode at Grandma's! It looks like the same brand as my mum's toaster set from the button and light layout, but I don't recognise the logo.
I haven't managed to find anything like it on the internet yet, but I did have a giggle when I saw Amazon.co.uk put Half-Life 2 in the "toaster" category...
If Nick is still in Dubai when that's on there'll be trouble....
I am definitely not putting my Half Life 2 into a toaster, unless Microsoft release an update for my 360 that turns it into a toaster
Which would be awesome.
x2 F1 Minutes:
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/02/19/19-feb-10-webber-is-fastest-on-jerez-day-three/
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/02/20/20-feb-10-button-on-top-for-final-jerez-test/
chocolate brownies are much nicer than red bull muffins ;)
Half Life 2 in a toaster.... the mind wonders how awesome that would be.
Mind = Blown.
(...Mr Freeman)
I think a Resonance Cascase Scenario just occured!!!
Doh! CascaDe. Ye gods, people would actually think I'd gone to bed at this rate...
I really want to play Half Life now. I reeally shouldnt as I'll be playing it for ages... :P
I love the idea of Half life 2 being a toaster.
Is he moving? Does he know?
Me too. Hence why I'm actually going to bed now. Night all! I should hang around more often. I'll try and stick around for Giggles Radio! :D
You should definitely listen to Radio Giggles :) Night!
adios!
Check it out, peeps :)
http://forzafastlane.wordpress.com/
Still moving?
He hasn't decided what he's doing yet really. There seems to be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing at work. I'm not sure they've made a particularly reasonable offer yet.
Woo :) Have added to google reader!
I am definitely not putting my Half Life 2 into a toaster, unless Microsoft release an update for my 360 that turns it into a toaster
Which would be awesome. {Comment #439}
Amazon thought you could use Half-Life 2 as a toaster already, judging by all the actual toasters around it...
Unfortunately I can't find the manufacturer of this stupid pastry baking machine, let alone the model. It looks like a bit like an old Breville, but Breville have never had a logo like that to the best of my knowledge. But I don't know who has...
Your content should be king. The theme is less important than what you are saying.
Evening everyone :)
Good evening Alex :)
hi giggles.
Hello Alianora
evening Lou
So Lou am I given to understand that you are joining us next friday for the Joe thing?
Wise words :)
yep.
Blug alert: I've done a blog entry on a conversation I had with Force India's Twitter account. I am enjoying the new openness some teams are finding through social networking :)
woot!
I think Katherine has fallen asleep on the sofa. What should I do?
It is great to see teams engaging with their fans. It is long overdue.
Sit down on another chair a bit loudly and then convince her go to bed. simples
Pictures or it didn't happen. ;)
pub?
:) i have many things to work out though... like where exactly it is.. how long it will take me to get there (so i know how early i need to leave to get the train back).. oh and what i need to wear.. too many questions ;)
Noooo you should carry her upstairs :)
heh
Fireman's lift?
you meanie. i say leave her there for a bit.. it's only 10.. then wake her when you decide to go to bed?..
dooo it
I don't know about the wearing thing. It's kind of near Oxford Circus from memory so I think 20 minutes from Victoria (30 to be safe for the train)
She's woken up of her own accordian
Jon!! Don't be so nasty!
what? it was your idea!
This sounds far too organised
I have to be nice Katherine made Brownies and cookies tonight. Of course that has tired her out!
Nooooo. Gently carrying someone upstairs does not constitute a fireman's lift!!
oh ok. i did not realise this.
NICELY ALEX! NICELY!
I don't think I am capable of gently doing anything like that.
#yearsofcomputerusehasrenderedmeaweekling
I really need to get on the sudden brownies train!
i'd prefer to get the train back from charing cross i think, seeing as it's a bit quicker from there, plus the victora line is horrible at night. will work it out tomorrow and see what happens. i'll probably end up wearing my suit, seeing as i'll be coming from school.
smart casual. a dress, but not a formal one. i think a cardy is in order too with it being so cold over there
They totally rule and are surprisingly easy
you woke her up with an accordion?that's not very nice... ;)
You said pancakes were easy
50 minutes.
fifty.
minutes.
(10 minutes on 2nd attempt later that day but shh)
Well you say that... I may well play the accordion rather sweetly...
i have to be organised when i go to london alone, otherwise my parents get worried, and so do i.. kinda.
brownies: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-412
It's a craze that is sweeping the Sidepodnation!
:D well i told you how to make them...
#blameLou
It's a good thing to be blamed for though, surely? :P
in the station.
Yeah. People are always much heavier than they look. I tried to carry my sister when she was drunk. It was basically impossible and she's like a size 6.
Because of all this procrastination!
you tried to put each pancake on a different plate! that's not time saving techniques ;)
I also spent 10 minutes wondering what self raising flour does
it raises the flour.
:)
of course I should tell you the truth about the brownies...
...well...
...look...
...it's like this...
...katherine read something in a book or something...
...and...
...welll...
...they have grated beetroot in them!!!!
yes... I know what you're thinking...
...but honestly it's not that bad ;)
Aaaargh you violated the sweet/savoury rule!!
(Mr C style) WHAT?!
Beetroot is sweet once roasted... It's not pickled or nuffink
yeah I know.
See the one thing about having a surname like mine is you don't get namesakes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X9hWUPZhI0&feature=related
beetroot? with chocolate? how does that work?
If ever there was to be some type of plant in my brownies, it certainly wouldn't be graded beetroot.
are you sure the pages of the book weren't stuck together?... so when it said 'add the beetroot to the mixture' it meant like another recipe? beetroot and chocolate seems... different.... ;)
I don't buy it! Beetroot is lovely but it's not a desert item.
i wish i owned a dress... actually i don't... but never mind. :)
:-D
Well it's Hugh Fernley wassaname... you know what he's like.
Garlic?
And bread?
....urm, I mean, Beetroot? And Chocolate?
Ahh
I think it might be what you might call smart casual.
Mint sauce...
...and beef?
;)
Could be worse. Could be Heston Bloomingheck and you could have liver in the brownies
or an oyster.
Heston is awesome ;) hehehe
touche, sir, touche. :)
Wear what you would wear to an interview where you weren't sure you wanted the job ;)
You don't have a dress? :( Awwww I love dresses. They're the best.
Don't you think he looks tired?
http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2010/02/20/dont-you-think-he-looks-tired/
That's odd I was just searching YouTube for a video of him. Apparently he went down the luge/skeleton track the other day!
shorts, offensive tshirt, and sandals it is!
I have to say on a serious note that this is one of those things that works despite it sounding weird. Just as many of Heston's recipies do. The combination works surprisingly well.
Definitely the Stefan GP training routine
You can tell the commentators of curling are bored when they are talking about what they have for lunch....
Right I'm off to bed. Hope all you hep cats have a great evening. I hope I will catch at least some of you for the radio show from 4pm tomorrow afternoon!
i'm really not a fan of dresses. skirts are okay, more of a summer thing tbh. The only dress i can see myself owning is my dress for our leavers ball at the end of the year :)
Night Alex
Now they're talking about how much it cost...
i saw the l at the beginning of your name, read it as Lukeh and then read the comment.
needless to say i was very confused
Night alex
Well it is curling. Although curling is definitely the most dangerous sport in the olympics.
blame lukeh for me missing your show ;)
night Giggles
:D
Night. I'll see if I can get back for then
They're only 2 ends into it!!! 8 more to go! they have nothing to talk about
#sorryalex :(
Night sir
It's okay I hear he's taking you to giggles - the 3d experience - the movie...
they should talk about dangerous predicaments you can find yourself in with a curling thing. Like using it as a Frisbee.
Summer dresses are the bestest.
i agree :)
or a hammer for the summer olympics
or shot put.
now they're talking about the colour of the girls nails
Exactly!!
curling is very dangerous, see. Like I said the other day, what if you were shopping and the curlers mistaked the shopping aisle for a curling... place, and started throwing them down the aisle. very dangerous sport.
OMG! In the 2007 shot, he is wearing my glasses. The exact same ones I wear when I'm driving. I may have to go to specsavers...
unless your shopping aisles are made of ice, i should imagine not a great deal would happen...
now trolley curling....
thats a sport
Not when your boss catches you
#oops
pallet jack racing ftw!
#supermarketgames
:D
Cage Wars ftw!! It's like mario kart but in cages. Good times.
I can't get over the stamina of those cross country skiers. They've been going over an hour and look how hard they're racing....
I'm about to close the vote for Life in the Fast Lane Part 6, so if you haven't voted, make sure you head over and have your say. Last time I looked one person had a big lead, now it's completely changed hands :)
http://tenstepstories.wordpress.com/2010/02/19/life-in-the-fast-lane-part-6/
Must be the 5000 calories they consume.
I'm sure eating a whole chocolate fudge cake wouldn't let me do that.... :P
You need to be a carboholic
You could try and see as a medical experiment
awesome guest postage: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/20/approaching-the-start-line/
yay :)
I told myself I wasn't going to watch NASCAR to see what Danica was doing at Fontana. I can't help it, I think I'm being sucked into the vortex. She's 40th out of 43 and has just gone 1 lap down after 19 of 150 laps. She'll have a long day.
Pirates of the Caribbean music over Amy Williams montage. Amazing
I'm not sure whether the green on the rear wing of the Mercedes is flow-vis paint or actually part of the livery. Looks like the latter, but it's hard to tell with what looks like bits of turquoise paint on the rear suspension.
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13245843
think its meant to be like that
Looks kinda weird.
Time to head off and get some rest before tomorrow :) thanks for posting my guest post! Night everyone :)
night mr lukeh, have fun!
what's happening tomorrow :P... night Lukeh, see you soon! :D
thank you for writing it!
That has to be livery. To defined a pattern for flo vis
Night Lukeh
oh ewwww that's not nice..
lou sums that up nicely, ewwwww
hi
i'm looking at the mclaren site, my only real comments about it are i love how they display the test info they make available, but the one thing i think the site is really missing is a gallery of recent photographs (a featured i loved on the Brawn site).
Why don't you e-mail them and suggest it. They seem to be listening to fans
howdy mav. how's tricks?
really?
why not?
i dunno... i'm sure the guy who does the website would be thrilled with having another job... ;)
it's his job :D seriously, worst they can do is say no
i've just found the contact form on their site... they are almost tooo helpful ;)
not bad, seem to have been watching paint dry all day, how's things here?
Yes. Look at Steve having the hoody competition on his site and the other bloggers getting to the launch. Tell them that you are a Jenson fan who has just started to take an interest in McLaren because he moved there and one thing you noticed immediately was the lack of the gallery that Brawn had.
Tell him if it is too much work for him you know a young photographer who would be prepared to help
have done so. I love that it's so easy to contact them..
Were you watching Nascar like Pat?
that's good, play to their competitive edge :-)
i can make a lovely cup of tea ;)
Tell them that you are a Jenson fan who has just started to take an interest in McLaren because he moved there and one thing you noticed immediately as a budding/trainee/whatever photographer was the lack of the gallery that Brawn had.
i also mentioned Renault's flickr page... that's pretty awesome too.
It should be easy to contact teams. It is something they have all been slow to adopt but a lot of them seem to be getting to grips with it now.
watching curling... but wishing they'd stop chanting U S A - I get it, you can spell
When do you start at Woking then?
hahahaha that would certainly be one way of making me become a fan :P
