Roll on Tuesday then, and it appears that yesterday I missed the opportunity to wish Heikki Kovalainen a happy birthday. I must say a belated Happy Birthday, then, and also a #sorryAmy. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:

  • Williams have confirmed Cosworth engines, which is pretty much what we were expecting. The only real engine question mark now is how good they will be. They must be somewhat good for Frank to return to them, mustn't they?
  • Button has revealed that he actually spent his celebratory evening alone in his hotel room, just grinning to himself. I can totally understand that! I imagine that he had completely lost his voice by that time anyway.
  • Trulli still maintains that Sutil was in the wrong in their Brazil incident. Despite the fact he has been fined over his conduct once getting out of the car, Trulli doesn't seem to be in a hurry to settle the argument yet.

That'll do for now, I think. I notice in the comments, people have been busy compiling a list of 100 Reasons why Button is a Great WDC. Go and add yours now, and I'll see you in the comments.

Erm well basically I run a shop, nothing too exciting. I'm off abroad for a few months so a first time manager is getting my store.

Basically there was just a lot of stuff to get done before I go.

Just on a comment in yesterday's Daily..

oh dear. techgeek wouldn’t be who we think it is, would it?

That's annoying, if it is. I thought the pattern was different so didn't query it.

I would like to point out the commenter The Speedgeek who was live commenting the race before TG started talking is completely unrelated and I can vouch for him. In fact I'd bet that's where the inspiration for the name came from.

I missed those comments. I would love to know what he gets out of being a complete pain. If I was Mr C I would get the police involved. As soon as it goes from being a nuisance on the web to a real world meeting tipping off the police may be a good idea.

I was trying to help you!

My soloution would be to go and look at your boiler now... It will cure the cause not just the symptoms ;)

And as an added bonus you can run back to your bed and it wiill seem even warmer!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:13

    No sideways reading just yet!

She'd keep warm with the resulting fire

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:18

sounds like the adventure to the boiler would be much more prudent ;)

Ooookay. I ran very fast to inspect the boiler. It's not co-operating. I give up. I'll deal with it in the morning.

I don't normally have it on overnight anyways. It's just it must have conked out earlier and my house has cooled down too much. I can see my breath!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:26

No. I would never get round to reading it. I will get it at some time in the future just for all the historic issues.

I thought it was quite interesting that frank williams asked joe about what drivers he should sign and joe gave him jensons mobile number...

I have always wondered why people in F1 don't put any real effort into driver selection. The whole process baffles me.

    Oh dear oh dear!

    weather, you dirty man

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 00:42

What do you mean by effort? I am sure they think about it a lot!

If I was running an F1 team I would employ someone (probably more than one) who actually knew something about driving to watch the junior formulae and karting so that young drivers could be identified as early as possible. Then I would have the drivers in an F1 simulator straight away. I don't care if they are 20 or 12 get them in the simulator and see what they can do. Lewis Hamilton was aparently the fastest simulator driver McLaren had at the age of 13.

I would also have a selection of cars from the lowest formula to F1 and try out all the drivers in them a few times a season regardless of what they are actually racing. Then constantly review their performance and progress and add new drivers who impress. I am not talking about Red Bull or Renault programs that have a few drivers I am talking about a world wide program with 50 or 60 drivers.

I don't think the people who give out F1 drives generally are very good. There are drivers with long careers who after 3 or 4 years were obviously going to achieve nothing but young drivers who look like they may be good don't ever get a drive. Trulli has been an F1 driver for 10 or 12 years but clearly he was never going to be anything special so why constantly give him a drive when there are all sorts of young drivers with many championships behind them disappear from single-seater racing?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:43

Oh, I'm an awful sleeper! It takes me ages to get to sleep, I wake really easily.

Me too, i am worse over hear, i love the noise of a city in the background. silence freaks me out a little

    Hmmmm

Ha! Perhaps your the old maid not wanting to run down to your boiler! :P

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 00:44

Eddie Jordan has a reputation as a talent spotter yet he signed Ralph Firman because he met him in a shop selling sunglasses in Barbados or somewhere having never previously considered him.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 00:45

    weather, you dirty man

    Okay now I'm lost....

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 00:47

Ha! Perhaps your the old maid not wanting to run down to your boiler! :P

No! I've just had a long day at work and it's icy cold.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:48

That is a good point. However the problem F1 teams have is that they can go 5-6 years without needing a driver so their focus on development is minimal prefering to solve problems rater than anticipating change.

Perhaps a 3rd party needs to take over the talent spooting and try to work with all the teams to give younger drivers access to machinery.

The success of Lewis might change people perceptions of driver development, and i think with more teams we are sure to see a greater turn over of younger drivers. People who previosululy wouldnt have been given enough of a chance may do now.

It is a very good point though

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:49

No! I've just had a long day at work and it's icy cold.

    Hehe ok,

have you chaecked you havent left a window open or anything?

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 00:50

have you chaecked you havent left a window open or anything?

At night? I'm not going near the windows! It's just tempting fate to peer out of windows at night.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:51

At night? I'm not going near the windows! It's just tempting fate to peer out of windows at night.

    What could happen!?

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 00:52

    What could happen!?

What if there's a face at the window???

It's an obvious truth that if you don't look, it isn't there....

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 00:54

What if there's a face at the window???

    What!?

Why would there be a face there? People dont just stand around all night staring at windows in case somone opens the curtains! especialy not if you are upstairs.

Besides what can a face do? Just smile back!

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 00:55

That is a good point. However the problem F1 teams have is that they can go 5-6 years without needing a driver so their focus on development is minimal prefering to solve problems rater than anticipating change.

What is the point in spending hundreds of millions optimising the car and not measuring the guy who has to extract that performance? How do they know the drivers they have are the best they can afford if they don't compare them to anyone else? Surely if you are running a budget of $200million for example it is worth spending two or three percent of that making sure you have the best drivers possible now and in the future?

Perhaps a 3rd party needs to take over the talent spooting and try to work with all the teams to give younger drivers access to machinery.

That is not going to happen. If I was running an F1 team I am going to go out and get good young drivers not just sit back and hope that someone points me in their direction.

The success of Lewis might change people perceptions of driver development, and i think with more teams we are sure to see a greater turn over of younger drivers. People who previosululy wouldnt have been given enough of a chance may do now.

He certainly changed a few people's perceptions but there are many drivers who develop at a later age so there could b someone in his mid 20s who would make a great F1 driver but didn't get a chance or failed at a younger age. Now the teams have no way to measure them

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 00:56

Why would there be a face there? People dont just stand around all night staring at windows in case somone opens the curtains! especialy not if you are upstairs.

    True

Besides someone may have stolen the glass from the window and you could fall out

#MFC Discussion on the Kindle, e-books, piracy and DRM

DRM is just a bad way of trying to hang on to an outdated "Bricks and Mortar" Business model, IMO :(

so many people in the comments seem to misunderstand in that they think they can only use Amazon purchased books on the Kindle, which isn't right. Admittedly Amazon purchased Kindle books can't be used on other e-readers, but I don't have another e-reader so I don't care :D

Speaking of which, mine has shipped, hooray :D

Do you not think these proprietary formats are just the same mistake as the music industry though?

I have access to thousands of songs for free on something my ISP provides called "TDC Play". The problem is they are DRM'd .wma's which are difficult to convert and the service requires a clunky login token that never works properly :(

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 07:03

Do you not think these proprietary formats are just the same mistake as the music industry though?

probably, but I've never purchased DRM music so its never affected me either :D

(I am looking at all of this in a very selfish way, clearly :D)

The problem is that e-books are going to be a niche market for a lot longer than digital music, and therefore the industry aren't going to learn as quickly. If you can call the music industry's education quick.

DRM is just a bad way of trying to hang on to an outdated "Bricks and Mortar" Business model, IMO :(

It's hard because I can see the point that this commenter is making:

As a published author I want DRM, and lots of it. Rejecting DRM on the grounds that consumers don't like it is rather like telling a department store not to employ security guards because that might upset shoplifters.

Graham Barker , Hebden Bridge, UK

However there is a fine line. Stuart Codling and I were circling around an interesting point the other day which is about how price actually works. Part of the problem with free is that it makes it hard for people to know what something is worth. I know that seems backwards, and in many ways it is.

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 07:58

some of the people having the most success making money with free e-books seem to be the ones who make the first part of a series free and then charge for the remainder because people like knowing how things end.

Yes but, the security guards aren't allowed to follow you around after you leave the store to make sure that you don't copy or give away the material, surely?

Agreed. The thing is, people will always pirate stuff, no matter how restricted it is - but to penalise those who don't is also wrong...

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 08:01

There have been some terrible mistakes. And there will be lots of them in the e-book space.

My problem is that I am against DRM because why shouldn't I be able to read my book / listen to my music / watch my movie however I want. But on the other hand I would really like to be paid to be a writer full time.

I just had my best quarter of book sales for The Book With the Missing First page this quarter - And a big thanks to all of the people on Sidepodcast who made that happen. I made 28 pounds :)

That is the exact problem with DRM. Pirates will find a way round it, and it's the regular consumers who want to give you their money who suffer.

The DRM issues on Spore were unreal and proved everything that's wrong with the system.

Morning. Funnily enough I tried installing spore again the other day but it was having none of it because of some stupid drm thing so I just gave up, gimg related drm is very frustrating at times. Another recent memoryis football manager 2009 which required you to be online to register the drm...

... On the first few days it was out, the certification servers were down, meaning no game.

I buy music on iTunes even though I could get the exact same file for free. But I have always been used to buying music.

I wonder if people who are used to getting music for free will expect to have to pay for it?

I have just registered my mobile number with my tracking number on the DHL website so they will text me when there are status updates.

    I'm not obsessed.

  • Christine20/10/2009 at 08:27

A long time ago, I used to use one of the file sharing sites when there was no other option. As soon as iTunes was launched, I paid for my music.

I think if you make things available, in a simple way, and a reasonable price, then you'll start to pick up some of the less hardcore pirates. One of the reasons people pirate is because what they want just isn't available any other way.

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 08:29

I was teaching my dad how to use iTunes because he was so proud of himself for buying a CD online from Germany that wasn't available in NZ.

I don't think he'll ever do it though because he still uses a CD player to listen to his music, its mum who has the iPod and I doubt she has put more music onto it since I bought it for her, because when I loaded iTunes its still iTunes 6 :D

this is starting to happen with games on pc. Although pirating is still more than around, digital distributors like Valve's service 'Steam' has helped, their platform is a quality service and very popular.

I think that's right. This is where these home systems (like what Apple TV should be and so on) are really going to be important. I imagine that the proverbial parents could work out "buying an album" on their tv and then the sound comes out of their stereo.

    Morning

    Morning Alison. ;)

The remarkable story of Brawn GP

The remarkable story of Brawn GP

A thought on this - now that Brawn are designing their 2010 car properly around a Merc, surely that means they can go quicker yet?

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 09:52

Awesome!! Apple Store opening in cardiff on Wednesday :D

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 10:03

At least this means Mr C won't kidnap me this time.

    He kidnapped you last time?

  • Journeyer20/10/2009 at 10:03

Amazing what they have had to do this year – some awesome decisions that only a small team could have made…

Oops, looks like Gavin brought it up already. :D

Roll on Tuesday then, and it appears that yesterday I missed the opportunity to wish Heikki Kovalainen a happy birthday.

So he and Kimi's birthdays are just days apart?

    [Montagny] seems unlikely.

For me, he'd just be 3rd behind Glock and Kovalainen, but hey, the French have a bigger say in it now, so it can happen.

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 10:06

So he and Kimi's birthdays are just days apart?

Kimi is the 17th and Heikki is the 19th :D

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 10:06

    He kidnapped you last time?

I seem to recall there was some driving around and around the block listening to U2 at some stage.

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 10:07

Oh yeah! I remember that now.

    That mischievous mr c!

  • Christine20/10/2009 at 10:08

I seem to recall there was some driving around and around the block listening to U2 at some stage.

Mmm. One of the shows - the last one in the UK maybe? - was on the radio, and he tricked me into meeting him at the car so he could drive me round listening to Bono quite loud.

    From Twitter:

Ralf Schumacher becomes team boss at GP3 Team Mücke

    AHAHAHA! AHHHHHAHAHAHA! Hmmm...

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Okay, I'm done now. :)

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 10:10

Ralf Schumacher becomes team boss at GP3 Team Mücke

    Appropriate name!

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 10:10

In Bono and Mr C related news, Katherine picked Mr C's entry to be the first one of her creative projects: http://kathall.co.uk/blog/2009/10/the-wonders-of-pritt-stick/

She also made a monster too:

  • Journeyer20/10/2009 at 10:11

Senna could test for Renault this year

But if he ends up with Manor or Campos, why would Renault agree to giving him a test drive? Senna may have a big name, but driving-wise, he's still an unknown quantity.

  • Journeyer20/10/2009 at 10:11

But if he ends up with Manor or Campos, why would Renault agree to giving him a test drive? Senna may have a big name, but driving-wise, he's still an unknown quantity.

I don't think he'd accept a role as a test driver this season. Can't see why having a test drive with Renault can't harm anyone's chances but he's obviously scouting out for a proper drive.

  • Christine20/10/2009 at 10:14

She also made a monster too:

    Coooool monster!

Who else on here played the legendaryness that was abe's Oddyssey?

News that it is returning and twittering with Amy about it has sent me spiralling into a world of nostalgia. It's just classic!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 10:24

It looks creepy.... I never played games like that. Although thinking about it, things I did play were probably a bit disturbing for a kid to play.

  • Jeremy20/10/2009 at 10:24

I don't think he'll ever do it though because he still uses a CD player to listen to his music, its mum who has the iPod and I doubt she has put more music onto it since I bought it for her, because when I loaded iTunes its still iTunes 6 :D

    Burn a CD from iTunes?

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 10:26

it was harrrrd. I think I learnt that walkthroughs exist because of Abes Exodus :D

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 10:26

It looks creepy.... I never played games like that. Although thinking about it, things I did play were probably a bit disturbing for a kid to play.

Noooooo, abe is a legend! It was brilliant but it's hard to explain why... Amy will probably get what I mean as she remembers it. Plus, from what I remember, there was a button where you could make Abe fart for no apparent reason.

Now, if that's not worthy of a classic game...

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 10:29

I don't like difficult games. I didn't really have any sorts of platform games as a kid.

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 10:30

I don't like difficult games. I didn't really have any sorts of platform games as a kid.

But you liked Broken Sword! Both the first and second game look me months and months to work out...

Ah Broken Sword. I think when I get home I'm just gonna have to go through a load of old games now.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 10:30

Actually now I think on it, I liked Rayman!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 10:31

But you liked Broken Sword! Both the first and second game look me months and months to work out...

Oh yeah, they were a lifetimes work.... I played those games when I was about 8 though.... It was years and years until I mastered the first one.

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 10:32

Ah Broken Sword. I think when I get home I'm just gonna have to go through a load of old games now.

I love the PSN. For years and years and years my brother and I tried to find a copy of Kula World because we once had a demo disc with it on and always wanted to play it, and it was so hard to find. But then it came out and I downloaded it and life was good. Until I got stuck and gave up. This is a recurring theme with my games, I have only ever reached 100% of a game three times, and all of them were Crash Bandicoot ones :D

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 10:32

In my head though, that's a different sort of difficult, you can wander about and just try things without any time pressure. It's not about timing aiming and jumping and stuff.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 10:32

How on earth did I miss that? Well I know what is being purchased this afternoon then.

Wiki says "Kula World was also extremely popular when released, which made acquiring it quite difficult. Ordinary copies can cost over £60 due to its rarity" so I'm glad I wasn't going insane when I couldn't find it. People I mentioned to thought I had dreamed that it ever existed 'well you're a beach ball, and you roll around, and you eat fruit....'

Reminds me of when I explained the Katamari games to a friend in world who wanted something new and different to play. "You roll a ball, and everything gest stuck to it, and it gets bigger and bigger, and it has funny music". They haven't asked me for suggestions since.

    No.

In the event of any race results being amended through appeal or disqualification after race-day, the amendments will NOT be reflected in respect of this competition. The original results will stand. In any event, the decision to amend results as a result of appeal / disqualification will be solely at the discretion of FSPORTS.

I would have thought they would have done it in the afternoon, what with him flying back from Brazil and everything!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 11:39

DRM is just a bad way of trying to hang on to an outdated "Bricks and Mortar" Business model, IMO :(

It's hard because I can see the point that this commenter is making:

The problem is that DRM is associated With Rootkits and all other nasty stuff.

People also are aware technology is largely transient and disposable, and they will replace their devices, but they dont want to pay for something again.

There would be a very big market if anyone could do DRM sensibly and market it to consumers

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 11:40

seeing that page makes me think I should reinstall it and give it another go because I feel stupid that I got stuck at creature stage :(

    I am amazed. How????

  • me20/10/2009 at 11:41

I would have thought they would have done it in the afternoon, what with him flying back from Brazil and everything!

looks like he's driving fans around and stuff. plus it gives the press more time to file their stories.

presumably the conference was a last minute addition.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 11:43

I wonder if people who are used to getting music for free will expect to have to pay for it?

In all honestly I dont see digital music as something worth paying for.

If i like something and want to listen to it a lot i will buy the CD

  • Amy20/10/2009 at 11:43

Or request the computer without the OS. Some people just like starting arguments.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:11

Wow! Trulli is still complaining about Sutil.

I really don't see what Trulli's problem is, in fact it sounds more like his own fault the more he tries to explain what Sutil did wrong.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:14

It was a straight i treated it like a straight.... however it was realy a corner so i started to run out of road, however by the time i realised this there was no track left because the guy in front of me who realised it was a corner was there already.... I crashed, but it was all his fault!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:15

He seemed genuinely very angry though.... Why would you behave like that if it was your fault? He should just have stopped his car though rather than careering back into the road and smacking into Alphonso.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:17

I really don't see what Trulli's problem is, in fact it sounds more like his own fault the more he tries to explain what Sutil did wrong.

he is right, in that he was alongside and sutil absolutely must've seen him. the onboards show that.

in 50/50 situation you'd have to favour experienced trulli over the nightmare that is sutil (look at what he did to nick recently).

    i need more angles.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:18

He seemed genuinely very angry though.... Why would you behave like that if it was your fault?

Because he's out of a job in 2 weeks time and so now is not the time to be admitting to not knowing the difference between a straight and a corner?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:18

He seemed genuinely very angry though.... Why would you behave like that if it was your fault? He should just have stopped his car though rather than careering back into the road and smacking into Alphonso.

He didnt actualy hit lsonso that was sutil flying across the track backwards after turilli took him out ;)

I think he was under pressure to keep his drive and he went for a risky move which didnt come off and he is trying to cover it by blaming sutil who has a reputation for taking people out.

    Unfortunatly the video says otherwise....

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:19

    Unfortunatly the video says otherwise....

does it though? do we have a clear shot?

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:19

I think he was under pressure to keep his drive and he went for a risky move which didnt come off and he is trying to cover it by blaming sutil who has a reputation for taking people out.

Ah I see. I remember being annoyed at the time that whoever it was didn't stay on the grass rather than flying into the middle of the track.....

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:21

does it though? do we have a clear shot?

Thing is, Trulli admits he's aware that the car in front of Sutil had a problem - therefore Trulli should have been more careful.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:21

Ah I see. I remember being annoyed at the time that whoever it was didn't stay on the grass rather than flying into the middle of the track.....

In fact wasn't it Sutil that did that last race too and smacked Heidfeld? Did that happen in my head?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:21

he is right, in that he was alongside and sutil absolutely must've seen him. the onboards show that.

he was in the blindspot for most of the corner though, by the time he popper up there sutil would have had to have been the one to take avoiding action.

I doubt he even saw him, the tyres were only level for a miniute, and sutil was probably distracted watching what raikonen was up to.

If it was a straight Trulli would have a point, but it was a corner, and sutil was following a car he didnt have a clue what it would do next, or if anything would fall off it.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:22

Thing is, Trulli admits he's aware that the car in front of Sutil had a problem - therefore Trulli should have been more careful.

Or if he chooses not to, accept the consequences.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:22

Thing is, Trulli admits he's aware that the car in front of Sutil had a problem - therefore Trulli should have been more careful.

i'm confused looking at this picture:

    http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1320645

where is alonso, and how can he have seen anything?

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:23

where is alonso, and how can he have seen anything?

Presumably Alonso was saying that Sutil punted him off and Trulli decided he was responsible for the whole affair.....

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:23

where is alonso, and how can he have seen anything?

verry true... I think alsonso didnt want to get involved in a discussion with a very angry italian when he was probably quite disapointed himself..

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:23

where is alonso, and how can he have seen anything?

Alonso must be the one who took the photograph ;-)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:24

Presumably Alonso was saying that Sutil punted him off and Trulli decided he was responsible for the whole affair.....

    hehe, that sounds about right!

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:24

Trulli was desperate to get a drive next year - when have we last seen him race and get hyped up like that?

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:25

Thing is, Trulli admits he's aware that the car in front of Sutil had a problem - therefore Trulli should have been more careful.

depends. if it were schumi in sutil's place, we'd be saying he drove trulli off the track. so why not the same for sutil?

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:25

Trulli was desperate to get a drive next year - when have we last seen him race and get hyped up like that?

    he came 2nd in suzuka.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:26

Trulli was desperate to get a drive next year - when have we last seen him race and get hyped up like that?

    he came 2nd in suzuka.

he came second in Singapore too. But I think he was more agitated in Brazil.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:27

he came second in Singapore too. But I think he was more agitated in Brazil.

    wasn;t that glock?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:27

depends. if it were schumi in sutil's place, we'd be saying he drove trulli off the track. so why not the same for sutil?

I dont think we necessarily would.

If trulli hadnt gotten all stroppy we would probably have forgotten it as a racing incident.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:28

he came second in Singapore too. But I think he was more agitated in Brazil.

    wasn;t that glock?

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument! :D

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:29

If trulli hadnt gotten all stroppy we would probably have forgotten it as a racing incident.

but he did. and because he did, i'd say there must be at least some reason for it.

    and sutil has previous.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:29

If trulli hadnt gotten all stroppy we would probably have forgotten it as a racing incident.

He shouldn't have smacked Alonso. I don't understand why he did. It looked totally unnecessary.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:29

He shouldn't have smacked Alonso. I don't understand why he did. It looked totally unnecessary.

    huh?

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 13:29

    wasn;t that glock?

I'm pretty sure that was Ralf Schumacher who came seconhahaha, ah I'm sorry.

    That's not even believable.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:30

    huh?

Lol I don't mean punching.... It just looked like Sutil was off the road having been hit by Trulli, decided to guide it back onto the track rather than stop and went right into Alonso.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:31

depends. if it were schumi in sutil's place, we'd be saying he drove trulli off the track. so why not the same for sutil?

Yes... but only because we don't like Schumi ;-)

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:31

    That's not even believable.

    Poor Ralf.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:31

Lol I don't mean punching.... It just looked like Sutil was off the road having been hit by Trulli, decided to guide it back onto the track rather than stop and went right into Alonso.

i'm not sure he had any choice, wasn't he out of control and sans wheels/brakes?

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:32

i'm not sure he had any choice, wasn't he out of control and sans wheels/brakes?

I'd need to watch it again. It looked like there was a lot of runoff though and he chose to head for the track.

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 13:32

    Poor Ralf.

I was thinking back to older Toyota drivers, it was originally Franck in that sentence but I feared what would happen to me posting on SPC if I included him in such a way ;)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:33

but he did. and because he did, i'd say there must be at least some reason for it.

    and sutil has previous.

Id say that that was one reason, the pressure for him to keep his drive was another. I was the first to laud sutil as a complete and dangerous idiot after what he did in singapore, but I dont think he was to blame there...

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:33

I'd need to watch it again. It looked like there was a lot of runoff though and he chose to head for the track.

i think if he did that, he'd have been banned for life.

alonso should've taken better evasive action though.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:33

Id say that that was one reason, the pressure for him to keep his drive was another. I was the first to laud sutil as a complete and dangerous idiot after what he did in singapore, but I dont think he was to blame there...

what about in suzuka, with kovi?

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:34

Lol I don't mean punching.... It just looked like Sutil was off the road having been hit by Trulli, decided to guide it back onto the track rather than stop and went right into Alonso.

Sutil looked like a passenger by that point. Trulli did the same thing in Spain (to Sutil funnily enough).

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:34

alonso should've taken better evasive action though.

How could he have avoided Sutil? He got T-boned!

  • lou20/10/2009 at 13:34

Good luck! Power your way through :P

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:35

he saw the incident, allegedly. so he knew there was fast a car off to his right, he should've anticipated it and slowed.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:36

    Use those elbows Lou!!

Or cry "swine flu! coming through!"

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:36

I'd need to watch it again. It looked like there was a lot of runoff though and he chose to head for the track.

You might be right actually he does seem to straighten the car and aim for the track.

That was stupid and possibly dangerous, i will have to look for the replay later in the race to be sure

I haven't seen it since it happened but that was what I thought at the time. I remember being quite annoyed. I'm just getting to the bit in my recording. I can't jump forward, everytime I try I just get to shots of them fighting....

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:37

Hmm maybe - I am assuming his FOV is the same as the roll bar camera here, of course...

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:38

I'm convinced, he absolutely heads for the road!! He thinks he's gonna just cut over the grass and rejoin. The camera is just too busy watching Trulli to show it properly.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:38

I haven't seen it since it happened but that was what I thought at the time. I remember being quite annoyed. I'm just getting to the bit in my recording. I can't jump forward, everytime I try I just get to shots of them fighting....

Its on the end here, it does appear he is trying to rejoin the track completly out of control which is utter madness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcBN3jV-GGY

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:40

Straight after that, Trulli goes a little bit Piquet then Heikki goes all pyromaniac on Kimi, presumably the stewards had enough to deal with, it just got forgotton.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:40

Its on the end here, it does appear he is trying to rejoin the track completly out of control which is utter madness http://www.you...m/watch?v=UcBN3jV-GGY

strongly disagree. looks like he hits a bump.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:41

You might be right actually he does seem to straighten the car and aim for the track.

Alonso doesn't seem too bothered by it, just gets straight in the marshall's truck

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:41

Alonso doesn't seem too bothered by it, just gets straight in the marshall's truck

Presumably he's trying to keep his nose clean for the end of this season at least.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:42

Alonso doesn't seem too bothered by it, just gets straight in the marshall's truck

oblivious, is the word that comes to mind.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:42

    OK then.

Sutil was ahead and Trulli tries to barge through - it was Trulli's fault.

I am not sure Sutil is fully under control but he does steer toward the track.

Alonso could see him for aaages before yet does not react until Sutil is almost in front of him...

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:43

strongly disagree. looks like he hits a bump.

But looking at the angle the car was facing when it went off, he appears to turn it left to head back towards the track, then before he hits the bump he has turned it right to merge back in. the bump throws him off completly and he hits alonso.

I dont think he was competly in controll of the car, buti wouldnt mind seeing what he is doing with the steering wheel on an extended onboard

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:44

He definitely steers for the track sharply which makes sense as he's heading for the barrier but he's got miles of braking room. He'd probably have tapped the barrier. I'm sure he could have stopped before the track. He mustn't have thought his car was too badly damaged. Maybe he could have rejoined pre Alonso collision.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:44

Its on the end here, it does appear he is trying to rejoin the track completly out of control which is utter madness http://www.you...m/watch?v=UcBN3jV-GGY

Alonso blatantly can't see the initial incident according to that on-board view

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:46

There was an escape road right there.... When he got his hands back on the wheel, I still think he could have made it down there, he didn't even try.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:47

Why did he let go of the wheel like that anyways?

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:47

Why did he let go of the wheel like that anyways?

Because the sheer force of the bump knocked them off - or he let go in fear of breaking his wrists?

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:48

I am not sure Sutil is fully under control but he does steer toward the track.

no. i think the front suspension collapses.

Alonso could see him for aaages before yet does not react until Sutil is almost in front of him...

    agreed.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:48

oblivious, is the word that comes to mind.

same word came to my mind when watching him avoid sutil, a guy he's supposed to have seen take out trulli in great detail.

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:48

He definitely steers for the track sharply which makes sense as he's heading for the barrier but he's got miles of braking room.

    ...but no brakes!!

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:49

Because the sheer force of the bump knocked them off - or he let go in fear of breaking his wrists?

the latter. it's the right thing to do.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:49

I once watched this desert survival programme with one of those survival men and he made me really paranoid about keeping my thumb inside the wheel....

He just kept going on about how hitting a rock can turn the wheel violently and break your thumbs. Now I can't drive with them inside the wheel without feeling a bit sick.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:50

Actually, Sutil DOES move over for Trulli. Trulli spins out on the grass after that.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:50

no. i think the front suspension collapses.

Plausible - the front wheels appear to buckle but then the camera gets covered in mud.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:51

Actually, Sutil DOES move over for Trulli. Trulli spins out on the grass after that.

Yeah, I thought that but I didn't want to seem like a Sutil hater.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:51

Actually, Sutil DOES move over for Trulli. Trulli spins out on the grass after that.

Yeah - Sutil has both corners and leaves room for Fisichella, who draws alongside him and then falls back. Then he taps Sutil....

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 13:51

Plausible - the front wheels appear to buckle but then the camera gets covered in mud.

Was his visor covered in mud?

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:51

Plausible - the front wheels appear to buckle but then the camera gets covered in mud.

isn't that where romain when off and smashed his car to pieces on saturday. we know that it's very, very bumpy down there.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:51

Was his visor covered in mud?

    Quite possibly.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:52

Plausible - the front wheels appear to buckle but then the camera gets covered in mud.

Was his visor covered in mud?

    Also plausible...

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:52

isn't that where romain when off and smashed his car to pieces on saturday. we know that it's very, very bumpy down there.

Why because Romain lost it there? :P He can spin going down a straight :D

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:52

Why because Romain lost it there? :P He can spin going down a straight :D

he bounced his car 3 feet into the air.

isn't that where romain when off and smashed his car to pieces on saturday. we know that it's very, very bumpy down there.

It all depends on the magnitude and direction of the impact force ...

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:53

no. i think the front suspension collapses.

true, i didnt realise he had his hands off the wheel like that

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:54

It all depends on the magnitude and direction of the impact force ...

but. you agree that it's very bumpy. right?

sutil isn't driving on flat ground with four wheels pointing in the right direction. he is completely out of control.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 13:55

Yes of course - he was a passenger from the point that Trulli hit him. It does appear that he is under control after the bumpy bits as he tries to rejoin the track...

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:55

    ...but no brakes!!

If he took his hands off the wheel, would he have taken his feet off the pedals?

    romain on saturday:

    and

    http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/grosjean-puddles-png

  • me20/10/2009 at 13:56

If he took his hands off the wheel, would he have taken his feet off the pedals?

no. that isn't necessary during an accident.

either way, he had no brakes and or was braking on marsh ground.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:58

Why were there no tyres there? If there had been, going closer to the barrier would have been more of an option. There are some on both sides of that section, why not there where 2 cars had accidents and there were a couple more near misses over the weekend.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 13:59

I feel less like he was responsible now I've seen the onboard though. It looks like he actively steered for the track but now I see he was just getting his hands back on the wheel and his face was covered in mud.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 13:59

no. that isn't necessary during an accident.

    Ah, i wasnt sure.

On the one hand you would definatly take you foot off the gas to stop your self going faster.

I wasnt sure about the brakes, because whilst it makes sense to try and slow yourself down, if you have lost one of your wheels you may not want to risk spiining the car and hitting sideways? I guess it makes sense to brake anyway , any speed lost it good!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:00

I feel less like he was responsible now I've seen the onboard though. It looks like he actively steered for the track but now I see he was just getting his hands back on the wheel and his face was covered in mud.

    i concur

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 14:00

no. i think the front suspension collapses.

Right rear looks to have gone too if you look at the view from Alonso's.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 14:00

Wouldn't sliding sideways into the barrier have slowed you down a lot and spread the force of the impact? I thought that was better than head on?

  • me20/10/2009 at 14:01

    so my conclusions...

    1. trulli was hung out to dry by sutil. ran out of kerbing and hit a bump on the grass, which bounced him out of control and into the back of sutil.

    2. alonso could see nothing of that accident. and apparently also managed to miss an incoming, but out-of-control sutil.

i'd argue sutil was acting unfairly and could've given trulli more room into that corner.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 14:01

Wouldn't sliding sideways into the barrier have slowed you down a lot and spread the force of the impact? I thought that was better than head on?

Not on bumpy grass - you stick it into a barrel roll if you're not careful

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 14:01

no. i think the front suspension collapses.

Right rear looks to have gone too if you look at the view from Alonso's.

  • me20/10/2009 at 14:02

Right rear looks to have gone too if you look at the view from Alonso's.

agreed. that went when trulli hit him.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:02

    1. trulli was hung out to dry by sutil. ran out of kerbing and hit a bump on the grass, which bounced him out of control and into the back of sutil.

I would say that it was half true, but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.

    2. alonso could see nothing of that accident. and apparently also managed to miss an incoming, but out-of-control sutil.

    definatly

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 14:02

Also, his car 'hops' onto the track right before Alonso - so it's not like he meant to hit him...

Lol I was never claiming he was aiming for Alonso! That really would be ban worthy.

  • me20/10/2009 at 14:03

Also, his car 'hops' onto the track right before Alonso - so it's not like he meant to hit him...

my guess is alonso assumed he would slide right on by, but instead he "hopped up"?

Also, his car 'hops' onto the track right before Alonso - so it's not like he meant to hit him...

Lol I was never claiming he was aiming for Alonso! That really would be ban worthy.

    I know you weren't ;)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:03

Found this on twitter: RT @jsummerton: up and ready and training hoping to hear some good news soon. Sucks sitting and waiting wish I had sponsors to go to teams.

I wonder if USF1 will anonce in Abu Dhabi or wait and do it in the states with some sponsors, i guess that is more likely

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 14:04

I would say that it was half true, but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.

Why? You can't see from Sutil's onboard, how much of an overlap Trulli had on him.... When Sutil moved over, he couldn't just drop back to avoid it, he had to go onto the grass which we've decided was very slippy, bumpy etc and he lost it.

  • me20/10/2009 at 14:04

but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.

if sutil wasn't aware of him, then he clearly is the next david couthard.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 14:04

    1. trulli was hung out to dry by sutil. ran out of kerbing and hit a bump on the grass, which bounced him out of control and into the back of sutil.

I would say that it was half true, but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.

    I agree.

    2. alonso could see nothing of that accident. and apparently also managed to miss an incoming, but out-of-control sutil.

I think Alonso thought he was safe until the 'hop'...

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:04

my guess is alonso assumed he would slide right on by, but instead he "hopped up"?

probably, but he was going really fast with damp tires, he was probably hoping to get to the runn off area and rejoin from there

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 14:05

but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.

if sutil wasn't aware of him, then he clearly is the next david couthard.

Do you think Sutil was distracted by his bogey driver being in front of him?

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 14:06

Also, his car 'hops' onto the track right before Alonso - so it's not like he meant to hit him...

my guess is alonso assumed he would slide right on by, but instead he "hopped up"?

I think Alonso expected Sutil to go one way, drover around it, but then was caught out by the 'hop'

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:06

if sutil wasn't aware of him, then he clearly is the next david couthard.

Force india have those silly mirrors now and he was pretty distracted. I dont think around the outside of that corner is the most sensible place to overtake when you know the guy in front of you is trying to make his way past a wounded car.

But yes, i would agree he is the next DC!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 14:06

I can't believe Webber had the bottle to ram Kimi off the road again btw after what happened last time. Maybe it's a lucky omen for him now or something.

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 14:06

    1. trulli was hung out to dry by sutil. ran out of kerbing and hit a bump on the grass, which bounced him out of control and into the back of sutil.

I think Trulli was overly ambitious in trying to go around the outside with a damaged Ferrari preoccupying Sutil - it was either going to work or it wasn't and Trulli just has to accept that it didn't - I don't think Sutil could have done a lot else.

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 14:07

How was Trulli supposed to know the Ferrari was damaged from behind?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 14:07

How was Trulli supposed to know the Ferrari was damaged from behind?

he said he knew it was going slowly

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 14:08

How was Trulli supposed to know the Ferrari was damaged from behind?

He says he knew, apparently. He also said Alonso saw everything so we might have to move Trulli to GMM status on this matter.

  • RubberGoat (Gavin Brown)20/10/2009 at 14:12

How was Trulli supposed to know the Ferrari was damaged from behind?

You can tell something is wrong because Kimi exits the first corner in an oddly slow way and Sutil reacts to it. That's how Trulli caught up...

  • Maverick20/10/2009 at 14:15

Trulli to release a load of original, highly researched complaints every day?

NOTW slated her miming in the first issue on Sunday. They changed it by the second edition on account of the fact that she hadn't actually sung yet because she was actually performing on Sunday night's program, not Saturday's. Ooops.

Not exactly excited about this one, but there ya go.

Wait, hang on, why do the candidates still need to take the floor? They're still gonna allow the candidates to make a pitch on the day of the election?

This is the interesting tweet, though:

Ari Vatanen has withdrawn his court application for the forthcoming FIA elections following a meeting with Max Mosley...

What could Max have told Ari to make him withdraw it?

Earplug- style earbuds - about 15% and no noise pollution!

You are supposed to respond to the "You fight like a dairy farmer" one with... "How appropriate, you fight like a cow".

It's going to be a busy off season with all the new teams and drivers etc. We also have to see what happens to Toyota's 2010 budget

  • RG20/10/2009 at 17:31

Positvie BMW/QADBAK/That Lot news. Notts County owners have passed the fit and proper persons test, so hopefully, just a wait until a team drops out then.

  • me20/10/2009 at 17:32

depends what you're buying, but for a tiny server, with that much storage, i say "bargain".

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 17:40

Makes my potential drobo purchase more complicated.

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 17:42

Does it make prost more or less likely?

I am not sure. It just seems odd that he has never been mentioned at Renault before and now that Flav has gone he is in with a chance of testing

  • me20/10/2009 at 17:47

Makes my potential drobo purchase more complicated.

it does. the more i think about it, the more i like the idea. it's not expandable like the drobo, but you could plug a freesat dongle into it and have yourself a HD recorder too.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 17:47

Looks like Renault are considering Bruno Senna. I wonder if this gives us any clue as to who will be the new team principal.

I still think Renault should get Nick - its a stable combination that will score some points until they get back on their feet.

  • me20/10/2009 at 17:48

I am not sure. It just seems odd that he has never been mentioned at Renault before and now that Flav has gone he is in with a chance of testing

presumably he was tied to honda before in someway and is now free(er)?

Renault video from Brazil, it is all images and the music starts to get anoying (for me anyway ;)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLRAGbZRg60 they used Stupeflix. :)

it does. the more i think about it, the more i like the idea. it's not expandable like the drobo, but you could plug a freesat dongle into it and have yourself a HD recorder too.

I really don't need one of those I don't think. But then I already have a pvr.

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 17:50

I really don't need one of those I don't think. But then I already have a pvr.

The dongle. The rest... Well the problem I have is that my main machine has 2 x 1Tb hard disks. And what I'd really like to do is have a proper backup so I think the drobo is still better in some ways. However... The drobo is just a disk. It isn't also so much more.... Hmmm...

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 17:51

it does. the more i think about it, the more i like the idea. it's not expandable like the drobo, but you could plug a freesat dongle into it and have yourself a HD recorder too.

hehe, I know what you mean but i just had the image of a freesat dongle with attached dish :D

  • me20/10/2009 at 17:51

I really don't need one of those I don't think. But then I already have a pvr.

depends what happens if f1 goes hd i guess? if the bbc can stream it, that'll be fine, otherwise a dual core decoder with masses of storage might suddenly become more interesting.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 17:55

Makes my potential drobo purchase more complicated.

Because we work with such huge data files so I am still mulling over various options to equip my training lab - I need 72 so I feel I need to really get it right. So far Shuttles with Core 2 Quad processor, 4GB Ram 1.5 TB drives and I GB video cards look the best option and with 1900 res monitors and keyboards work out here in SA at about 500 GB pounds.

See that's how fast the machine is. I haven't bought it yet, but it is so fast it reversed time and solved the problem already. FACT!

I never realized that not having decoded the Neanderthal genome was a problem!

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:17

Right I'm going to go and watch a movie... Hmmm... What to watch? I shall order dinner while I decide what to watch... Hmmm... What to order for dinner? Hmmm... I shall make some comments on Sidepodcast while I decide what to order for dinner... Hmmm... Commenting makes me forget that I wasn't supposed to be doing this in the first place.

  • me20/10/2009 at 18:18

Ah, I wondered about that... so if you leave doohickey open it only counts as one view then?

    yup. according to google.

goggle also thinks that after a couple of minutes of inactivity, the user has gone away, thus removes them from all stats.

i think the average page view time on spc is 3 minutes. which is nuts.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:18

I never realized that not having decoded the Neanderthal genome was a problem!

Well we now know them to be 99.5% similar genetically to us Homo sapiens

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:18

I never realized that not having decoded the Neanderthal genome was a problem!

    Big problem. Big computer!

    Wow, congrats!

What a usefull pice of information.

Next they will want to make them using genetic science! Have they not seen Jurrassic park!

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:20

    Big problem. Big computer!

The problem actually was quite big since the DNA had got broken and contaminated during the few thousand years it was lying around.

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 18:20

    Tks bro!

Can answer number 2 for you. You can either post in the comments and one kind soul (possibly me) will add it to the wiki. Or you can sign onto the wiki, click on edit page on that page, and change it yourself.

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:20

Are you planning on running your own space program to challenge NASA?

I can do that now that I've dealt with the whole genome thing in the future and the past.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:21

Next they will want to make them using genetic science! Have they not seen Jurrassic park!

I kid you not there has been talk about recreating a Neanderthal - oh they had bigger brains than us - by about 15%.

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:21

Can answer number 2 for you. You can either post in the comments and one kind soul (possibly me) will add it to the wiki. Or you can sign onto the wiki, click on edit page on that page, and change it yourself.

You are a very kind soul!

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:23

What a usefull pice of information.

It is important because, you know, it's part of the proof of evolution thing. Some people seem to want quite a lot of proof for that for some reason.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:23

I kid you not there has been talk about recreating a Neanderthal - oh they had bigger brains than us - by about 15%.

    Brilliant!

Fist we have that lot in switserland with their giant earthquake making magnet, trying to kill us in the name of science, now they want to make a species of superkillers!

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:23

I can do that now that I've dealt with the whole genome thing in the future and the past.

When then find some DNA of the hobbit - that would be an interesting Genome project you could use your computer for.

  • me20/10/2009 at 18:24

Fist we have that lot in switserland with their giant earthquake making magnet, trying to kill us in the name of science, now they want to make a species of superkillers!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:24

    dancer?

    :D Indeed!

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:25

Fist we have that lot in switserland with their giant earthquake making magnet, trying to kill us in the name of science, now they want to make a species of superkillers!

They had about 30% more muscle than a modern human and a distinctly cannibalistic cuisine!

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:26

I can do that now that I've dealt with the whole genome thing in the future and the past.

If you have done that already space should be easy

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:28

They had about 30% more muscle than a modern human and a distinctly cannibalistic cuisine!

    It just gets better.

I think that anyone who wants to try to do science should have to follow a flow chart:

    Is this a good idea?

If No stop | If yes continue

Will this endager the whole Human race

If yes Stop | If No Check with someone to be sure!

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 18:28

I contributed to the list, I feel SO involved now.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:28

If you have done that already space should be easy

What about validating the elven dimensions of reality also known as M theory!

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:28

I kid you not there has been talk about recreating a Neanderthal - oh they had bigger brains than us - by about 15%.

It's only a matter of time before some nutter decides we can return the world to the condition it was in before humans took over. There are bound to be people who think they can put back all the vegetation and animals.

  • me20/10/2009 at 18:29

It's only a matter of time before some nutter decides we can return the world to the condition it was in before humans took over. There are bound to be people who think they can put back all the vegetation and animals.

are they thinking of purchasing a supercomputer and answer to the name alex?

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:30

They had about 30% more muscle than a modern human and a distinctly cannibalistic cuisine!

Bigger brains. more muscle and a liking for human flesh. What are the odds on them losing out to us a second time?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:30

It's only a matter of time before some nutter decides we can return the world to the condition it was in before humans took over. There are bound to be people who think they can put back all the vegetation and animals.

I was going to suggest vegetarians, but i think its more likely to be a robot

    Possibly Marvin

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:30

Will this endager the whole Human race

If yes Stop | If No Check with someone to be sure!

Of course they became extinct not us - so that could be a problem to ask the computer to explain - of course if the answer is 42 you need to rethink your question.

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:31

Will this endager the whole Human race

If yes Stop | If No Check with someone to be sure!

Of course you have to ask yourself if not doing it might endanger the whole Human race too.

Imagine if they used the Swiss doughnut to create non-polluting energy production system?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:31

Of course they became extinct not us - so that could be a problem to ask the computer to explain - of course if the answer is 42 you need to rethink your question.

2 hitchhikers references in 3 secconds... scary!

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:31

I contributed to the list, I feel SO involved now.

That's good. We want everyone here to feel involved

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:31

They had about 30% more muscle than a modern human and a distinctly cannibalistic cuisine!

Bigger brains. more muscle and a liking for human flesh. What are the odds on them losing out to us a second time?

The important word is cannibalistic. We don't have to worry about them eating us. We're 0.05 different. They'll be eating themselves.

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:32

are they thinking of purchasing a supercomputer and answer to the name alex?

    rumbled ;)

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:32

    Possibly Marvin

I am not that paranoid yet

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:33

I am not that paranoid yet

    To mangle a quote...

Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean you aren't Marvin.

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 18:33

Will this endager the whole Human race

If yes Stop | If No Check with someone to be sure!

The big problem with that is that it assumes they know the outcome or the posible outcomes. There are all sorts of things like post-it notes that exist because something totally unexpected happened

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:33

Bigger brains. more muscle and a liking for human flesh. What are the odds on them losing out to us a second time?

We survived climate change better - do really want to know? And we can throw better so we would beat the neaderthal cricket team rather easily!

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 18:34

"For the rest of us there is always sunday

The day of the week that reeks of rest but all we do is catch our breath so we can wade naked into the bloody pool and place our hand on the big black book

To watch the knives zigzag between our aching fingers

    A vacation is a countdown

T minus your life and counting

Time to drag your tongue across the sugar cube and hope you get a taste."

    From an American song.

The important word is cannibalistic. We don't have to worry about them eating us. We're 0.05 different. They'll be eating themselves.

The original version may have been 0.05 different but the version we bring back will have errors in it so they may end up closer to us than we expect

  • Alex Andronov20/10/2009 at 18:35

The original version may have been 0.05 different but the version we bring back will have errors in it so they may end up closer to us than we expect

And the difference may turn out to make us taste to them like we have inbuilt seasoning!

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:35

The important word is cannibalistic. We don't have to worry about them eating us. We're 0.05 different. They'll be eating themselves.

Statistically speaking we are the same at 99.5% confidence limit, of and we eat them as well as they ate us - a completely mutual appreciation of the small genetic difference.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:37

The original version may have been 0.05 different but the version we bring back will have errors in it so they may end up closer to us than we expect

Two schools of thought one say we should be similar and the other says we should be less similar - typical scientists annot make up their minds and they argue the matter for millennia!

They restricted it to the gulf to cut costs.

They could have easily gone to Dubai for little money, and I am surprised they havent gone to Losail either

Although, having recently watched the GP2 Asia Losail rounds from earlier this year, the marshalling there was terrible.

  • Pat W20/10/2009 at 18:54

    Yeah. Think of a calendar

    1: Yas

    2: Dubai

    3: Losail

    --Winter Break--

    4: Yas

    5: Bahrain

    6: Dubai

Not many tracks in the gulf

the Brawn GP PR lady who is always in the back of interviews with Jenson and Rubens since Jules wasn't here..

Is she the one who played with her blond hair a bit and then realised what Rubens was saying during his blah blah blah outburst and looked as if she wanted the earth to swallow her up without any sign she ever existed - it was hilarious.

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 18:56

I asked my cousin in Beirut about eh possibly of having a GP in Lebanon. He said, "Are you serious!? They miss their targets all the time here. I think we're practice for them, and WHERE do you think that bullet, bomb, missile, WHATEVER, will go?" Good point.

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 18:56

Is she the one who played with her blond hair a bit and then realised what Rubens was saying during his blah blah blah outburst and looked as if she wanted the earth to swallow her up without any sign she ever existed - it was hilarious.

    Thats the one!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:57

Not many tracks in the gulf

4 more than there was 8 years a go!*

1 circuit every 2 years probably makes it one of the fastest growing motorsport regions on the world

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 18:58

    Thats the one!

That was one uncomfortable moment for a PR officer!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 18:59

Is she the one who played with her blond hair a bit and then realised what Rubens was saying during his blah blah blah outburst and looked as if she wanted the earth to swallow her up without any sign she ever existed - it was hilarious.

If she isnt there to shut him up whats the point in her being there?

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:00

1 circuit every 2 years probably makes it one of the fastest growing motorsport regions on the world

Not a bad thought that. Tis where the money is though.

What they could do instead is like move it more east. Japan (x2), China (x2), Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia.

More races, more viable to have the competition in eastern asia.

  • Pat W20/10/2009 at 19:00

Although, having recently watched the GP2 Asia Losail rounds from earlier this year, the marshalling there was terrible.

That is a good point, if i move to dubai i might consider signing up to do some

Good plan. They'll get there with experience.

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 19:00

Is she the one who played with her blond hair a bit and then realised what Rubens was saying during his blah blah blah outburst and looked as if she wanted the earth to swallow her up without any sign she ever existed - it was hilarious.

It's called "Payroll with a constituency.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 19:01

If she isnt there to shut him up whats the point in her being there?

She certainly was looking for the remote control to switch stations!

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 19:01

More races, more viable to have the competition in eastern asia.

That would need air freight though, You can move it by road around the gulf because its all so close

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:01

More races, more viable to have the competition in eastern asia.

I like my idea so much, I'm gonna blog it.

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 19:02

I still think if they'd combine F1 with WWE, it'd kick ass! WAIT... we have that.... NASCAR!

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:03

That would need air freight though, You can move it by road around the gulf because its all so close

Hmmm, good point that. Though that would only need to be used for races in Japan?

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 19:03

If she isnt there to shut him up whats the point in her being there?

So they can put out a statement saying it was taken out of context

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 19:03

I like my idea so much, I'm gonna blog it.

It did used to be in eastern asia, it supported Sepang and maybe even china once?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 19:04

Hmmm, good point that. Though that would only need to be used for races in Japan?

I wouldnt want to move stuff like that by road in south east asia!

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:05

I wouldnt want to move stuff like that by road in south east asia!

Okay, now its sounding like a less good of an idea ;)

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 19:05

I still think if they'd combine F1 with WWE, it'd kick ass! WAIT... we have that.... NASCAR!

On the left hand side we have Jarno weighing 64 KG and on the right we have Adrian weighing 70 KG

  • lou20/10/2009 at 19:06

    this is nicola.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 19:06

Okay, now its sounding like a less good of an idea ;)

This years schedule was probably the best they have had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_GP2_Asia_Series_season

In the first season they went to a seccond track in malaysia

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 19:07

    I like her!

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 19:07

I watched some NASCAR this weekend do they ever have to change a gear or brake other than at the pits or when they have a little outing?

  • Steven Daniels (Oklahoma, USA)20/10/2009 at 19:07

I saw that on a "Dog the bounty hunter" episode once...

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:08

This years schedule was probably the best they have had http://en.wiki...P2_Asia_Series_season

Looks like a fairly decent idea.

  • Pat W20/10/2009 at 19:10

i learnt some things about Jenson today.

    1. He likes chocolate buttons

    2. But he prefers snickers at the moment

    3. Out of all the f1 drivers and f1 people he would share a room with Ant Davidson (if he had to share a room with someone), because they get on really really well and he thinks the fact Ant is pocket size is kinda cute...

    4. He is visiting the factory tomorrow to see everyone and will also be having a go in the simulator (presumably testing next years car bits and bobs..)

    5. He loves it at Brawn and would like to stay... they just haven't started talking about contracts yet.

  • RG20/10/2009 at 19:11

I have to say it was not terribly exciting despite cars continually changing positions (even with Montoya driving) - sort like cycling and strategic leadership that goes with it- and I certainly did not understand the "Free Pass" - hope I am not offending any North Americans. It had some thing like 10 calls for yellow without apparent reason.

Didnt know that Jenson thought he was cute! somone will have to tweet 5live with that for free practice!

  • lou20/10/2009 at 19:14

    I

where did the rest of my comment go?...

    anyways..

I was sad when croftie made a few jokes about vettel and rubens (only nice joking ones) but only a few people in the audience knew who he was talking about :( i almost felt like shouting.. if you're not an f1 fan go away so i can get a photo.. but i didn't :D

  • lou20/10/2009 at 19:15

no he didn't. it was team Jenson, and Shov, and i think that was it...

  • lou20/10/2009 at 19:18

he did one longer one when we were outside.. but the ones i can remember were like refering to names.. cause he found out the sound guy was called lewis and he then said it was a good thing they weren't called Rubens or Sebastian... and other little things you would expect to get a chuckle from the crowd.. but hardly anyone around me knew what he was talking about.

  • jpancoast20/10/2009 at 19:18

As this is my first chance to get in the discussion since the race, I'd just like to say 'w00t!' for Jenson ;)

And I think I finally got Brazil's pit lane warning beeping sound out of my head.

  • Rich20/10/2009 at 19:20

Didnt know that Jenson thought he was cute! somone will have to tweet 5live with that for free practice!

I wonder which F1 drivers find other F1 drivers cute? One driver that is sure not get many votes for being cute is Fernando.

Possibly need a sidepodcast challenge for the cutest current F1 driver!

your server may not support it. firstly you really need to be hosted on a linux machine, windows seems to freak out at the very idea of them. secondly you need to ensure you have a .htacess file in the root directory of your site.

  • Lynch20/10/2009 at 20:06

ATTENTION SIDEPODDERS! LAST CALL FOR BATRACER!!! Join up now if you want to play, I will start the game soon! (probably tomorrow!) many spaces left! There are already some of you guys joined up, spread the word!

Players will need to be registered and logged in before they can enter the private game. When logged in, clicking the following URL will take you to the join game page:

    http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&47600

Alternatively, you can select "private games" from the menu and enter the number "47600" into the box. The game password is "podf1". Take care not to accidentally join a public game by mistake.

Yeah, I thought it was something like. I'm hosted with GoDaddy and the .htaccess files aren't available on my FTP programme.

I think that GoDaddy doesn't make them available as part of their auto installs.

    Thanks though...

I'm pretty sure the permalinks use mod_rewrite.

I've been administering linux + Apache servers for years. mod_rewrite still confuses and infuriates me.

Ok, hopefully drop.io hasn't lowered the quality of the video too much but here's what I've been working on anyways - my tribute if you will to the wonderful guys over at Brawn GP and for the season they've had with a video entitled 'Invincible'. Hope you all like it :D

I do not want to see any driver that cheats at Brawn - it seems wrong for the team. Rubens and Jenson also seem so right for each other as team mates.

also Croftie and Jenson made a joke today about your bff grosjean, mr c ;) they said thank god Jenson managed to stay ahead of him without Jenson'causing' an accident :D this was another thing only about 1/4 of the audience understood :)

    #sidepodspace

NASA have found anoter planet outside our solar system that has the basic chemicals needed for life. Two planets in such a short time means there are almost certainly billions of planets out there with the same basic chemicals.

So far we only have the technology to detect these chemicals on gas planets like Jupiter. The Kepler mission launched earlier this year will try to find rocky planets like Earth but it could be years before we find one with the basic chemistry for life.

Peering far beyond our solar system, NASA researchers have detected the basic chemistry for life in a second hot gas planet, advancing astronomers toward the goal of being able to characterize planets where life could exist. The planet is not habitable but it has the same chemistry that, if found around a rocky planet in the future, could indicate the presence of life.

Easy. Grosjean took such a tight line into the first corner on the video so was apinfully slow on th exit. Jenson took the conventional wide line so could brake later, carry a higher speed to the apex and have a much higher corner exit speed.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 20:51

looked like he was standing still. jenson wasn't even smooth through the second corner.

By the time you get the engine sorted and design domething to hang it on they should have found a rocky planet to go to

Jenson didn't need to be smooth through the second corner. By staying wide on the first one and making Grosjean stay tight the pass was already done. The only way Grosjean could stop him was to treat the corner like a block pass. Ignore the apex and just run Jenson wide. Brake almost to a stop and then turn at such a slow speed that Jenson couldn't make the pass but that would just have let anyone within in a few seconds pass both of them.

As soon as Jenson switched to the inside for the second corner it didn't really matter what he did because the third corner was also a left hander so Jenson had two corners where he had a huge advantage.

I have serious doubts that the national space agencies will be the first to go back to the moon. I can see one or more of the private space comapnies establishing a lunar base and going on to Mars. I can see the national space agencies disappearing completely in 20 to 50 years.

The moon and mars are irrelevent... they are deserts, we have them on earth! Weh have to go meet the Vulcans, the klingons and perhaps more urgently the Andorians

So no test flight to the moon just to try things out? Just jump in and point it at the Vulcans? We don't know anything about the moon apart from the top few inches of some of it and the same with Mars. We need to go there and see if there is anything useful. Besides you can't race until you have tested

Assumint it takes me a 2-3 years to do 2 or 3 degrees in physics, then probably another 5 to come up with the concept.

then small scale trials might take another 5 -10, probably a year or 3 to finalise the design and maybe 3-4 to manufacture the engine.

The ship will probably be built thoughout the process but i imagine it should be ready 1-2 years after the engine design is finalised. Another year for tests then we are readdy to go...

Did you read the theory that the Higgs particle is stopping the LHC from working to prevent it being detected. Or something like that.

  • jpancoast20/10/2009 at 21:39

Did you read the theory that the Higgs particle is stopping the LHC from working to prevent it being detected. Or something like that.

I think there's a Button particle that travels back in time to screw up Rubens' starts and Vettel's engines.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 21:40

Did you read the theory that the Higgs particle is stopping the LHC from working to prevent it being detected. Or something like that.

I just think that activating a massive magnettic field on top of a planet which consists of mostly liquid magma which moves acording to the earths naturalpolarity is a little mad.

Not supprisingly the first time they activated it there was a large eartquake on the other side of the world.

I recently read they had super cooled it again and were ready to begin work and there was a string of other earth quakes.

It isnt impossible it was a coincidence, but it doesnt seem to be a great idea,

According to this: http://www.ceri.memphis.edu/aware/follies.html earthquakes of that magnitued happen about 120 times/year. So pick a day, and there's a 1 in 3 chance :)

That's it. The reassuring thing about the LHC is that if they do cause the end of the world, we won't know anything about it.

Its possible, but these quakes didnt occur where the majority of that size would, deep in subduction zones, they were close to the surface.

I am not saying there is any proof, but i dont think we should be worrying about a theoretical black hole when this should be looked at

I doubt the magnetic field is remotely strong enough to move an earthquake an inch let alone trigger one.

  • Daniel20/10/2009 at 21:53

I'm finally back from the virgin media 'speed week' ie circus at bluewater with JB.

Croftie is a t1t at times, who the chuff is 'Sebastian Grosjean' ? I'm sure I have that on the video I filmed on my phone. The outdoor racing thing was only really for Virgin media 'guests' the real public, us, were so far away it was just like being at a real gp. Bit of a waste of time really.

The indoor interview was good though, 'Jenson, you grew up in Frome'.. what was that like ? Uhm, yeah Frome is an interesting place.. !'

    Hehe.

I got some good pics, but it was madness when he did the autographs in front of me. plus we had a security guard who was right up his backside, full of himself. I'll post 'em on flickr or on drop.io or summat.

All in all, not bad, got the closest you could get to an F1 driver without being bezzie mates with Bernard of the Ecclestone. Bit of a coup for Virgin really, he only got back to the uk this morning !

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 21:53

    if we are looking.......

We will know about a rock before it hits us. We are unlikely however to know about it early enough for Bruce to get his drills ready so we can stop it.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 21:54

I doubt the magnetic field is remotely strong enough to move an earthquake an inch let alone trigger one.

The magma flows though according to both the moon and the natural polarity of the earth, It seems carzy to me to put a huge magnetic field down and not worry about it

So don't go pushing and shoving else we'll just pull it straight away, ok ?'

I'm surprised he didn't have body armour and a radio "Breaker breaker 10-4" etc etc.. what a tool he was, full of himself !

Lol, He didn't look like I expected, much bigger than I thought, no one except me and a few others cheered when he asked who listened to the radio 5 live commentary hehe.

Yes, I filmed pretty much all of it apart from one minute or so when I was on the Canon ! :-) I'll try get it up asap. Probably go on face ache first so look me up on there and i'll add ya.

Was he an older guy with a big canon and a flash unt with a plastic diffuser on top ? As we faced the stage thingy, Jenson sat on the left first of all, pretty much in front of me, where were you ?

You need some cash behind ya to purchase the equipment, many of them use an EOS 1d mk III, about 4-5k for body, then a 600 mm L series lens is probably the thick end of ten k.

Notice how some of them have two or three cameras on them ? That's so they can keep a shorter range lens on another body so it saves swapping from one to the other, in case the moment passes. Must be a cool job to travel the world photographing motorsport ! :-)

A good place to look is the front of F1 racing that has 3 or 4 pics and is shows the body, lens, shutter speed and f stop the snapper used. Gives you good insight into what they are doing, I find :-) Good luck !

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 22:29

Actually i lie, i had 4... the 2 i forgot were to cardiff bay, and one to a maths lecture in london

I hope you went to Techniquest when in cardiff bay

  • lou20/10/2009 at 22:30

you get to go to cambridge for 3 days on an art trip?!!? i totally did the wrong a-levels.

it's a 3 day intensive art trip... lots of drawing, which i'm not keen on.. am going for the photography aspect, cause having a sketchbook like that will only help with uni stuff. When i asked the head of art if i could base my sketchbook on photography rather than necessarily art based she looked at me and said 'are you afraid of drawing!!' - i was stunned.. i'm not a great drawer but is it so much to ask to do a sketchbook on something you love and will hopefully study at uni?... :s

  • Daniel20/10/2009 at 22:30

I’m currently packing for a 3 day art trip (2 nights) to cambridge, and we’ve been told to pack light so it’s easier to carry around london and on the tube… i’m finding this difficult…. so i take my larger lens? i was thinking yes, because i love it… but then it’s not exactly packing light…

Depends what you'll be snapping really ! Cambridge is beautiful, the bodleian (sp?) library is amazing.

I went on a work course there for a few nights in summer 07, we stayed in a hall, that was used in harry potter for the dining halls scenes, amazing buildings ! Back to lenses.. I have an 18-200mm Sigma and a 50mm Canon prime, does me for most stuff.

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:30

I hope you went to Techniquest when in cardiff bay

Im afraid not... i think it was just harry ramsdens and then we went to look at redevelopment which i got in trouble for not being that impressed with!

  • lou20/10/2009 at 22:31

I wont tell you where my 2 a-level trips took me then :P

    hmmm ;)

is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don't want to go?

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 22:31

Im afraid not... i think it was just harry ramsdens and then we went to look at redevelopment which i got in trouble for not being that impressed with!

    Awesome, and agreed ;)

Techniquest is just awesome though. It speaks volumes to my childish side :P

i do think its a bit silly that in this day and age they dont fully recognise that art is more than drawing. even if you cant do it for this bit, just take lots of pictures anyway because they're bound to come in handy in the future, and because most of SPC is addicted to your flickr

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:31

    Is BAssano around? BASSANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lukeh20/10/2009 at 22:31

Ask them to arrange it for around the time of the race? :P

is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don't want to go?

do you have to pay for it? and does it cost about £1500?

  • lou20/10/2009 at 22:32

do you have to pay for it? and does it cost about £1500?

    yes and yes...

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:33

    yes and yes...

    we had that too :P

  • Daniel20/10/2009 at 22:33

i was upstairs… cause mum said i’d get a better view up there, we did have an argument about it but in the end i gave in… i was facing them on the left at the top…

Ah, you were over my left shoulder then. Did you spot the big guy in the wheelchair just left of centre in front of the barriers? I was directly behind him, until he left then I moved forward even more :-)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:33

is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don't want to go?

That is further than i went! But wont you have exams then?

That would be a great experience, you should go if you can afford it!

China is a very difficult place to visit independently.

  • lou20/10/2009 at 22:33

Ask them to arrange it for around the time of the race? :P

hahah :D i asked them if they could do that for the Singapore trip but they looked at me and were like... 'you may get to go to singapore and the only think you are worrying about is a race!'

am sad the trip isn't going ahead now :(

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:33

is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don't want to go?

Why not? That would be a great experience for you

i just have no urge to go... plus money... i'd rather my parents spent the money on a goodwood ticket for me than china... plus i am going to spa.. and then there is uni.. i'd like a mac book for uni. i have to pick my battles...:D

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:35

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:38

    he's forwarding it to me.

Do you know about the plane? :P

  • me20/10/2009 at 22:38

    Hehe.

I got some good pics, but it was madness when he did the autographs in front of me. plus we had a security guard who was right up his backside, full of himself. I'll post 'em on flickr or on drop.io or summat.

yay. glad you had a fine time.

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:39

    he's forwarding it to me.

    You can do that?

  • Daniel20/10/2009 at 22:39

is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don’t want to go

    ?

Oh my god, go go ! The country is amazing !

Just don't go to the gp, as the track is boring and the viewing isn't much better. Oh and the food is really pricey !

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:39

    he's forwarding it to me.

Daniel was wondering if the drop supports quicktime?

  • me20/10/2009 at 22:40

Can I put quicktime movies on drop.io ?

    yup.

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:42

aha. just doing a comment catchup :)

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/10/loeb-will-not-make-f1-debut-in-abu-dhabi/

No Loeb in Abu Dhabi because he doesnt have a superlicense.

He looked pretty competent when I saw him... But i guess the rules are there for a reason

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:44

    Hello peeps

Incredible timing and just 24 hours late

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:44

    It was

    Was it TBJ's fault :P

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:45

No Loeb in Abu Dhabi because he doesnt have a superlicense.

    That is ridiculous.

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:45

Incredible timing and just 24 hours late

Last night's wasn't getting through at all

Today's was fine, I've not long got in

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:45

    That is ridiculous.

    why?

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:46

    Was it TBJ's fault :P

Of course not, we do The Best Jumbos

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:47

    why?

5 world titles and 2 tests without looking dangerous would point to a guy who knew what he was doing.

It looks silly when grosjean and algusauri get given them but not him in my opinion

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:48

Of course not, we do The Best Jumbos

Was it an airbus then? if it had a RR engine i can pass the blame on to somone else ;)

  • Jeremy20/10/2009 at 22:49

5 world titles and 2 tests without looking dangerous would point to a guy who knew what he was doing.

I speak from experience when I tell you that rallying and circuit racing are different. You very rarely are in traffic on a special stage.

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:49

5 world titles and 2 tests without looking dangerous would point to a guy who knew what he was doing.

from a car experience pov i would agree, but not from an F1 car pov, he hasnt tested in a while.

It looks silly when grosjean and algusauri get given them but not him in my opinion

whilst these guys have been driving single seaters all their life, the jump up is alot less for them

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:49

Was it an airbus then? if it had a RR engine i can pass the blame on to somone else ;)

No, we don't have any longhaul Airbuses & all our 'Seven Fours' are Rollers

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:50

I speak from experience when I tell you that rallying and circuit racing are different. You very rarely are in traffic on a special stage.

exactly, he may be as fast as Hamilton around 1 lap, but he's never raced

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:50

    Hello. The wanderer returns :)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:50

    True

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:51

    Hello. The wanderer returns :)

    How was workies?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:51

    Hello. The wanderer returns :)

I hope you werent wandering about wearing cans, you would have looked a right twit ;)

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:51

    why?

The rule has always been that drivers with an international A licence in on discipline automatically get an A licence in another. So for example if an F1 driver enters a rally he gets seeded as any other top driver. Loeb has done enough testing for it to be clear that he can drive the car so there is no reason he could not have been given a superlicence on the same basis Kimi got his.

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:51

    Hello. The wanderer returns :)

    :D

    Hey ya

Been a busy weekend and start of week

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:52

    How was workies?

Hard, but that was hours ago

Have been at a friend's for dinner

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:52

    Hello. The wanderer returns :)

Did you manage to find an man with an orange drill to fix your boiler?

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:52

Loeb hasn't raced for a very long time, and not driving a 180mph single seater.

Kimi did a year of testing

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:52

I hope you werent wandering about wearing cans, you would have looked a right twit ;)

    Ear duffs?

    Err, no

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:53

No, we don't have any longhaul Airbuses & all our 'Seven Fours' are Rollers

    So it was your fault!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:53

Been a busy weekend and start of week

Yup. I have tomorrow completely off though. It's gonna be heaven. I just have a normalish end of week to work after that. I'll survive!

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:53

Did you manage to find an man with an orange drill to fix your boiler?

    My boiler's not broken.

Am I missing something here or are you all talking to someone else? ;)

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:53

    Err, no

Ah, i thought she was calling herself the wanderer!

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:54

Ah, i thought she was calling herself the wanderer!

    Me too!!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:54

    She? SHE?

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:54

No, we don't have any longhaul Airbuses & all our 'Seven Fours' are Rollers

    So it was your fault!

    No, I do 777's

And to my knowledge, the aircraft that went sick didn't visit us recently

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:54

    Me too!!

    I was :(

  • Jeremy20/10/2009 at 22:54

Loeb hasn't raced for a very long time, and not driving a 180mph single seater.

I think Stevens point is that the super licence shouldn't be the impedement

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 22:55

I think Stevens point is that the super licence shouldn't be the impedement

    What should be then?

Lets give him a super licence but not let him race?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:55

    She? SHE?

hehe, well i havent come up with a could nickname yet!

Your name has to many letters! :P

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:55

Loeb hasn't raced for a very long time, and not driving a 180mph single seater.

I meant on a provisional basis. It also seems ridiculous that him racing has been discussed for months then days before the event we find out he doesn't have a licence

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:56

hehe, well i havent come up with a could nickname yet!

    could? good!

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:56

Am I missing something here or are you all talking to someone else? ;)

Alison's boiler was broken last night but there was no-one with an orange drill to fix it

  • Jeremy20/10/2009 at 22:57

Lets give him a super licence but not let him race?

yes. Common sense should be the reason. I guess it could all turn into tricky legal issues if someone really wanted him in the car. Perhaps this is just the easiest public reason to give out

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:57

Alison's boiler was broken last night but there was no-one with an orange drill to fix it

She wouldnt have let him in anyway!

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:57

Alison's boiler was broken last night but there was no-one with an orange drill to fix it

    Ahhhh. Thanks

Is it fixed now? Drills & Boilers aren't a good mix unless it just needs fixing to the wall

  • Steven Roy20/10/2009 at 22:57

    What should be then?

It sounds like they have changed the rules if he doesn't qualify for the licence

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:58

It's still broken :( I have a very helpful man coming to fix it tomorrow. I hope he has an orange drill or it'll be a wasted trip.

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 22:58

Alison's boiler was broken last night but there was no-one with an orange drill to fix it

She wouldnt have let him in anyway!

Well, I am a bad influence after all. Who could blame her?

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:58

It sounds like they have changed the rules if he doesn't qualify for the licence

apparenly he would have to appeal

  • Nick20/10/2009 at 22:59

Well, I am a bad influence after all. Who could blame her?

she wouldnt let anyone in, or look out of windows, because of the very real possibility somone could be stood out their waiting and looking back!

  • Alison20/10/2009 at 22:59

she wouldnt let anyone in, or look out of windows, because of the very real possibility somone could be stood out their waiting and looking back!

    It's only common sense.....

  • Jeremy20/10/2009 at 23:00

The Chewbacca defense - it just doesn't make sesne! (to let him race)

  • Jon Waldock20/10/2009 at 23:00

Question: My mic and mixer inputs both have 3 pin trianglular positioned male/female sockets....if i bought a new lead, are they all teh same?

  • Bassano Clapper20/10/2009 at 23:01

Nassano sounds like an unweildy combination of anando and bassano

Well, it's no wonder it wasn't working last night! :D

Question: My mic and mixer inputs both have 3 pin trianglular positioned male/female sockets....if i bought a new lead, are they all teh same?

yup. the better ones have slightly longer ground pins, so that the ground connects first and avoids noise spikes... i think.

    o...k....

aslong as they fit each other thats fine. i want a longer lead, mines only a metre long!

  • me20/10/2009 at 23:04

aslong as they fit each other thats fine. i want a longer lead, mines only a metre long!

yeah, you should be fine with any 3-pin xlr lead.

Alex, I've just seen your Mac Pro configuration. You don't need all that, you probably don't even need a Mac Pro to be honest.

Andy it was only a joke really ;)
