Roll on Tuesday then, and it appears that yesterday I missed the opportunity to wish Heikki Kovalainen a happy birthday. I must say a belated Happy Birthday, then, and also a #sorryAmy. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- Williams have confirmed Cosworth engines, which is pretty much what we were expecting. The only real engine question mark now is how good they will be. They must be somewhat good for Frank to return to them, mustn't they?
- Button has revealed that he actually spent his celebratory evening alone in his hotel room, just grinning to himself. I can totally understand that! I imagine that he had completely lost his voice by that time anyway.
- Trulli still maintains that Sutil was in the wrong in their Brazil incident. Despite the fact he has been fined over his conduct once getting out of the car, Trulli doesn't seem to be in a hurry to settle the argument yet.
That'll do for now, I think. I notice in the comments, people have been busy compiling a list of 100 Reasons why Button is a Great WDC. Go and add yours now, and I'll see you in the comments.
Home sweet home just as the bells are ringing....
I've finished my big work projecty thing! I just have a normal working week to finish now. To celebrate I've bought a tub of chunky monkey :D
I'm not sure I want to ask
Well done you. You missed 2 Michel Rouxs tonight
congrats on finishing the project though!
there was a project?
It's Ben and Jerrys!
I'm sure he'll still be there in the morning....
You must be going off him if you are leaving it till morning
Erm well basically I run a shop, nothing too exciting. I'm off abroad for a few months so a first time manager is getting my store.
Basically there was just a lot of stuff to get done before I go.
Nooooooooo! He's downloading now! I can't watch him on the website, it buffers too much.
His father or uncle or whatever is on it as well but he is a bit old for you
It's not like that between me and Michel. It's just appreciation!
Have you had a nice weekend then Steven?
It has been OK. Nothing very exciting but OK
Just on a comment in yesterday's Daily..
That's annoying, if it is. I thought the pattern was different so didn't query it.
I would like to point out the commenter The Speedgeek who was live commenting the race before TG started talking is completely unrelated and I can vouch for him. In fact I'd bet that's where the inspiration for the name came from.
Jenson winning....couple of overtakes... zzzzzzzzzzzzz :P
I missed those comments. I would love to know what he gets out of being a complete pain. If I was Mr C I would get the police involved. As soon as it goes from being a nuisance on the web to a real world meeting tipping off the police may be a good idea.
I meant apart from the F1 stuff
Hello Nicholas.
Have a read through from about 8pm. I'm not going to comment on it any more, just needed to make sure I a guy I know elsewhere isn't moderated for the actions of another.
That had me really confused. Must be my brain's sleep period
Evening and night I am afraid, i didnt get much sleep last night so i will be heading off for a bit of an (early) night
Night Nick
might have another 5 mins left in me though to read though gp+ ;)
Night.
Well I was going to say goodnight but now I can't be bothered..... :P
Before i go, something i came across earlier... not your favouite site i know steven, but aparently their has been speculation that the Notus car was really a force india, Gascoine has denied it http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=39381
It is bound to have some similarities and someone is bound to make that accusation. I doubt that we will have another Arrows on our hands though
OH MY GOSH! My house is so cold. I think I might die!
I am sure you can come up with a better plan than that
:( :( :(
I don't know why the heating isn't on.... The boiler is too far away to investigate though.
I meant a better plan than dying.
I have a MEGA duvet but the cold is so intense I can still feel it :(
+ MEGA blanket? got an electric heater?
What you can do is lie on top of the suvet and wrap it right round you so you end up like you are in a sleeping bag. You will heat up in no time
I have all the sides tucked around me. I think you're really underestimating the level of the coldness!
I spent 6 months in the Ukraine a while ago and left the week before Xmas when the temperature was -20 ish. I understand cold
Luckily I've found my actual sleeping bag. I think that + duvet will be okay.
Perfect
hehe you are going to die when you have to get out of bed in the morning, it will be even colder then!
I cant sleep, ive tried, ive failed. I think if i do loads of reading rally quickly it might wear me out?
I thought you'd gone to bed! You got up just to taunt me? :(
There is something about this site that stops people sleeping. I think we are eventually going to find that Mr C is writing a thesis on how to develop software that stops people sleeping
rally quickly = sideways?
I was trying to help you!
My soloution would be to go and look at your boiler now... It will cure the cause not just the symptoms ;)
And as an added bonus you can run back to your bed and it wiill seem even warmer!
lols *really*
No sideways reading just yet!
I'm in a sleeping bag, I can't run anywhere! Now you're just trying to get me to fall down the stairs....
You would think Alison being a medical student would know the benefit of treating the cause
Step out of the sleeping bag!
And that despite her sleeping bag and duvet she will still lose a lot of body temperature though her head ;)
I need chocolate. Fortunately I have some
I need an orange drill :(
She will gain that back by having a computer in the sleeping bag though
hehe just run and make sure the boiler is on and press reset/boost/ whatever looks like it will work :D
BASSANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a risk it could overheat though!
The computer isn't in the bag!! How would that work?
Computer and head in the bag
She'd keep warm with the resulting fire
sounds like the adventure to the boiler would be much more prudent ;)
What do I do for air? I think we're back at the death scenario.
It is actually quite cold here too now..
The end of the bag stays open even if your head isn't sticking out of it
Alison has gone quiet... perhaps she is investigating...
All this excitementr isnt going to help me sleep!
Maybe she fell asleep or Nassano just turned up with the ornage drill
Two typos in one comment
Nassano sounds like an unweildy combination of anando and bassano
Ooookay. I ran very fast to inspect the boiler. It's not co-operating. I give up. I'll deal with it in the morning.
I don't normally have it on overnight anyways. It's just it must have conked out earlier and my house has cooled down too much. I can see my breath!
Steven do you get GP+?
I thought it was quite interesting that frank williams asked joe about what drivers he should sign and joe gave him jensons mobile number...
Oh dear, hope it isnt serious... I would offer you a plug in fan heater but your a bit of a ways away
I know! I checked it was plugged in and I turned it off and on and everything!!
NASA with an orange drill
No. I would never get round to reading it. I will get it at some time in the future just for all the historic issues.
I have always wondered why people in F1 don't put any real effort into driver selection. The whole process baffles me.
was there a boost button?
Ooh dear.. find more bed stuff from a cupboard?
What do you mean by effort? I am sure they think about it a lot!
Alas.....
Was their a dial or a green light?
I'm gonna head to bed. My first night in the new place! Air bed until the weekend though...
Night, Ill warn you it isnt as easy as you think though!
Sleeping? I'm really good at it.
What air beds? You're obviously getting old!
My problem is getting there in the first place
Im a pro, ill beat anyone on my day, but it takes me quite a while to prepare the right set up ;)
Sleeping!
I am in the throws of youth i will have you know!
There's a joke in there about wet/dry setups, but I think I'd better leave it
Right, better go, the BT man is coming at 8 to connect my internet! oh, hang on..
Oh dear oh dear!
Oh, I'm an awful sleeper! It takes me ages to get to sleep, I wake really easily.
Hmmmm
weather, you dirty man
If I was running an F1 team I would employ someone (probably more than one) who actually knew something about driving to watch the junior formulae and karting so that young drivers could be identified as early as possible. Then I would have the drivers in an F1 simulator straight away. I don't care if they are 20 or 12 get them in the simulator and see what they can do. Lewis Hamilton was aparently the fastest simulator driver McLaren had at the age of 13.
I would also have a selection of cars from the lowest formula to F1 and try out all the drivers in them a few times a season regardless of what they are actually racing. Then constantly review their performance and progress and add new drivers who impress. I am not talking about Red Bull or Renault programs that have a few drivers I am talking about a world wide program with 50 or 60 drivers.
I don't think the people who give out F1 drives generally are very good. There are drivers with long careers who after 3 or 4 years were obviously going to achieve nothing but young drivers who look like they may be good don't ever get a drive. Trulli has been an F1 driver for 10 or 12 years but clearly he was never going to be anything special so why constantly give him a drive when there are all sorts of young drivers with many championships behind them disappear from single-seater racing?
Me too, i am worse over hear, i love the noise of a city in the background. silence freaks me out a little
Ha! Perhaps your the old maid not wanting to run down to your boiler! :P
Eddie Jordan has a reputation as a talent spotter yet he signed Ralph Firman because he met him in a shop selling sunglasses in Barbados or somewhere having never previously considered him.
Okay now I'm lost....
No! I've just had a long day at work and it's icy cold.
That is a good point. However the problem F1 teams have is that they can go 5-6 years without needing a driver so their focus on development is minimal prefering to solve problems rater than anticipating change.
Perhaps a 3rd party needs to take over the talent spooting and try to work with all the teams to give younger drivers access to machinery.
The success of Lewis might change people perceptions of driver development, and i think with more teams we are sure to see a greater turn over of younger drivers. People who previosululy wouldnt have been given enough of a chance may do now.
It is a very good point though
Hehe ok,
have you chaecked you havent left a window open or anything?
At night? I'm not going near the windows! It's just tempting fate to peer out of windows at night.
What could happen!?
What if there's a face at the window???
It's an obvious truth that if you don't look, it isn't there....
What!?
Why would there be a face there? People dont just stand around all night staring at windows in case somone opens the curtains! especialy not if you are upstairs.
Besides what can a face do? Just smile back!
What is the point in spending hundreds of millions optimising the car and not measuring the guy who has to extract that performance? How do they know the drivers they have are the best they can afford if they don't compare them to anyone else? Surely if you are running a budget of $200million for example it is worth spending two or three percent of that making sure you have the best drivers possible now and in the future?
That is not going to happen. If I was running an F1 team I am going to go out and get good young drivers not just sit back and hope that someone points me in their direction.
He certainly changed a few people's perceptions but there are many drivers who develop at a later age so there could b someone in his mid 20s who would make a great F1 driver but didn't get a chance or failed at a younger age. Now the teams have no way to measure them
They do in creepy films. It's just asking for trouble....
BOO
True
Besides someone may have stolen the glass from the window and you could fall out
Oh dear. I know someone just like you! they arent real!
That is true! Could be contributing to the coldness. However, I'm not in Liverpool anymore....
:D
I laughed out loud at that. Simple things
:( You don't! I'm uniquely neurotic, I'm sure of it!
hehe, maybe not quite like you!
I discovered at one point i could play disney music from the cartoonsr to get her excited when she was upset or grumpy, and to calm her down when she got a bit too hyper!
Okay maybe you were right the first time..... :S
I'm not sure how Disney could ever calm someone down though.
hehe didnt work all the time, and i didnt exactly carry an mp3 plaer with the songs on it!
I thought I heard a bang there. Did you hear it Alison?
:)
What? I'm not looking outside to see what a suspicious noise could be!
You will be fine untill you hear the floorboards creak....
wait..what was that!
Well you can't expect me to go and check. I don't even have an orange drill
Opening the door and going out to investigate is a whole new plane of stupid!
hehe, no looking behind you either ;)
You might be catching on....
I didn't realise that being safe inside was supposed to be so scary
What can I say....
I am going to find my crash helmet just in case. I wonder if I can sleep in it
You can fix my boiler while you're at it?
Way too techincal for me
I am most probably going o sleep this time... night!
Don't believe you.
I'm not saying goodnight. You're not going to sleep....
One of you has to fix my boiler!!!
The only people round here who ever fix things are Bassano and Mr C and they are both ignoring you. Kathi could fix it if it uses Linux.
someone pinged?
How about Giggles? ;)
At least yours works. Alison has boiler trouble and an overactive imagination
he sorts stuff the helpdesk aren't interested in.
He live streams while someone else fixes things
better than an overactive boiler and no imagination, i guess.
At least then she would not have hypothermia
My wifi is being very temperamental lately. It keeps turning itself off.... I'm not at all impressed!
All my appliances are breaking. I swear I'll wake up and my freezer will have defrosted itself.
Does Mr C do repairs? I find it hard to believe a man who can't operate an oven can mend things :P
i fixed a studio after taking it to pieces. does that count?
Definitely!
And made the buzzing sound go away
that too. how should a 3am call out fee be?
There's no point coming over now.... We've already established I would refuse to open the door at this hour :P
Morning
Hey everyone.
Its ok, I didnt wish Heikki a happy birthday anywhere online either because I remembered at work and have only just managed to make mobile doohickey work on this 2004 era phone. Happy birthday for yesterday Heikki! In other news a guy who used to work here but now runs a cafe in St Kilda was just here so I told him to save me a table during GP week so I can driver spot :D
Who on earth let me go out on the town last night on a Monday night with a friend who didn't have to go to work this morning?
I got to sleep at 1am. And I've already been at work for 20 minutes.
I feel like Amy should feel like! ;)
Morning - that sounds a bit rough! I got to bed at half past midnight after finishing my Driver Consistency post and got up at 5am - although I did sleep for an hour on the train coming here ;)
The key question is... How much grappa did you have before you went to bed? What was I thinking? On a Monday?
I woke up at 6.30 this morning and felt wide awake, and this was an hour and a half before my alarm went off. I thought I felt like Alex must feel like!
:) Well that's how I normally feel like. Maybe we've swapped?
We must have. I promise to not wake up at 6.30 and feel good tomorrow.
Cheers :)
#sorryamy
oooh! Not much, did have some grapes while blogging though ;)
Here's a cool little article from Motorsport Magazine about watching the Brazilian Grand Prix with Jenson's sister, and how it was exciting, tense, nerve-racking and how supportive people are for Jenson. Quite a cool little article!
Dominos must have been reading our MEGA comments, they just sent me an email to tell me its "Online Mega Week"
Wow MEGA :)
Nice :)
#MFC Discussion on the Kindle, e-books, piracy and DRM
DRM is just a bad way of trying to hang on to an outdated "Bricks and Mortar" Business model, IMO :(
so many people in the comments seem to misunderstand in that they think they can only use Amazon purchased books on the Kindle, which isn't right. Admittedly Amazon purchased Kindle books can't be used on other e-readers, but I don't have another e-reader so I don't care :D
Speaking of which, mine has shipped, hooray :D
Do you not think these proprietary formats are just the same mistake as the music industry though?
I have access to thousands of songs for free on something my ISP provides called "TDC Play". The problem is they are DRM'd .wma's which are difficult to convert and the service requires a clunky login token that never works properly :(
probably, but I've never purchased DRM music so its never affected me either :D
(I am looking at all of this in a very selfish way, clearly :D)
I am not here.
Parlez-vous Francais?
Franck Montagny chez Renault?
Well why shouldn't you? Do you care if I can't read your e-books? Not really, I would have thought ;)
heheh, you can read them if you borrow my Kindle :D
Out of your cold dead hands, I would imagine!
Andrew Benson on the remarkable story of Brawn GP
Amazing what they have had to do this year - some awesome decisions that only a small team could have made...
quite possibly.
might be my warm dead hands, it was 28 today! no wonder my yoghurt melted on the one block walk back to work from the market :( it was 3 flavours and they all mixed together :(
Seems unlikely.
The problem is that e-books are going to be a niche market for a lot longer than digital music, and therefore the industry aren't going to learn as quickly. If you can call the music industry's education quick.
It's hard because I can see the point that this commenter is making:
However there is a fine line. Stuart Codling and I were circling around an interesting point the other day which is about how price actually works. Part of the problem with free is that it makes it hard for people to know what something is worth. I know that seems backwards, and in many ways it is.
some of the people having the most success making money with free e-books seem to be the ones who make the first part of a series free and then charge for the remainder because people like knowing how things end.
Yes but, the security guards aren't allowed to follow you around after you leave the store to make sure that you don't copy or give away the material, surely?
Agreed. The thing is, people will always pirate stuff, no matter how restricted it is - but to penalise those who don't is also wrong...
There have been some terrible mistakes. And there will be lots of them in the e-book space.
My problem is that I am against DRM because why shouldn't I be able to read my book / listen to my music / watch my movie however I want. But on the other hand I would really like to be paid to be a writer full time.
I just had my best quarter of book sales for The Book With the Missing First page this quarter - And a big thanks to all of the people on Sidepodcast who made that happen. I made 28 pounds :)
That is the exact problem with DRM. Pirates will find a way round it, and it's the regular consumers who want to give you their money who suffer.
The DRM issues on Spore were unreal and proved everything that's wrong with the system.
Exactly - I can't remember the details, but I remember it stopped me buying that game...
I bought that game and got stuck on the first level and got angry and never played it again. Why did I find something so hard that no one else did!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spore_(2008_video_game)#Controversy
Absolutely!
the Amazon dtpadmin on their forum says "We are working towards enabling non US publishers to setup accounts on DTP. At present, only publishers with US billing address and bank account are able to setup account on Amazon DTP."
I demand they hurry up as I want to give you more money.
The same happened with the TDC Play service I mentioned earlier. Except I still can't use it!
Awwww. Thanks Amy :)
seeing that page makes me think I should reinstall it and give it another go because I feel stupid that I got stuck at creature stage :(
Morning. Funnily enough I tried installing spore again the other day but it was having none of it because of some stupid drm thing so I just gave up, gimg related drm is very frustrating at times. Another recent memoryis football manager 2009 which required you to be online to register the drm...
... On the first few days it was out, the certification servers were down, meaning no game.
I buy music on iTunes even though I could get the exact same file for free. But I have always been used to buying music.
I wonder if people who are used to getting music for free will expect to have to pay for it?
I have just registered my mobile number with my tracking number on the DHL website so they will text me when there are status updates.
I'm not obsessed.
A long time ago, I used to use one of the file sharing sites when there was no other option. As soon as iTunes was launched, I paid for my music.
I think if you make things available, in a simple way, and a reasonable price, then you'll start to pick up some of the less hardcore pirates. One of the reasons people pirate is because what they want just isn't available any other way.
I was teaching my dad how to use iTunes because he was so proud of himself for buying a CD online from Germany that wasn't available in NZ.
I don't think he'll ever do it though because he still uses a CD player to listen to his music, its mum who has the iPod and I doubt she has put more music onto it since I bought it for her, because when I loaded iTunes its still iTunes 6 :D
Hehehe. Presumably they don't pirate music instead though.
Mum asked me to teach her how to use torrents and I refused :D
I agree totally here.
this is starting to happen with games on pc. Although pirating is still more than around, digital distributors like Valve's service 'Steam' has helped, their platform is a quality service and very popular.
I think that's right. This is where these home systems (like what Apple TV should be and so on) are really going to be important. I imagine that the proverbial parents could work out "buying an album" on their tv and then the sound comes out of their stereo.
now don't be too jealous, but I got some free High School Musical jandals/thongs/flip flops today.
I know, I know, I'd hate me too if I wasn't me.
JEALous!
there was also a Cartoon Network tshirt but thats not cool at all because it doesn't leave imprints in the sand if I go to the beach.
:D On the other hand, I might be a bit jealous of Lou at Bluewater. ;)
Morning :)
Why isn't she Qik-streaming?
#mfc U2 gig to be streamed on YouTube
At least this means Mr C won't kidnap me this time.
Because she'll be too busy gushing over Jenson and not getting lost in the crowd. :P
Morning Alison. ;)
Has this been brought up? Something good from Benson, for once:
The remarkable story of Brawn GP
A thought on this - now that Brawn are designing their 2010 car properly around a Merc, surely that means they can go quicker yet?
Awesome!! Apple Store opening in cardiff on Wednesday :D
He kidnapped you last time?
Oops, looks like Gavin brought it up already. :D
So he and Kimi's birthdays are just days apart?
For me, he'd just be 3rd behind Glock and Kovalainen, but hey, the French have a bigger say in it now, so it can happen.
Kimi is the 17th and Heikki is the 19th :D
I seem to recall there was some driving around and around the block listening to U2 at some stage.
Oh yeah! I remember that now.
That mischievous mr c!
Mmm. One of the shows - the last one in the UK maybe? - was on the radio, and he tricked me into meeting him at the car so he could drive me round listening to Bono quite loud.
He is trouble that Mr C!
From Twitter:
AHAHAHA! AHHHHHAHAHAHA! Hmmm...
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Okay, I'm done now. :)
Appropriate name!
In Bono and Mr C related news, Katherine picked Mr C's entry to be the first one of her creative projects: http://kathall.co.uk/blog/2009/10/the-wonders-of-pritt-stick/
She also made a monster too:
http://kathall.co.uk/blog/2009/10/are-monsters-creative/
Senna could test for Renault this year
But if he ends up with Manor or Campos, why would Renault agree to giving him a test drive? Senna may have a big name, but driving-wise, he's still an unknown quantity.
:D
I don't think he'd accept a role as a test driver this season. Can't see why having a test drive with Renault can't harm anyone's chances but he's obviously scouting out for a proper drive.
Coooool monster!
I really like the monster. It's a bit like an egg :)
Who else on here played the legendaryness that was abe's Oddyssey?
News that it is returning and twittering with Amy about it has sent me spiralling into a world of nostalgia. It's just classic!
It looks creepy.... I never played games like that. Although thinking about it, things I did play were probably a bit disturbing for a kid to play.
Burn a CD from iTunes?
it was harrrrd. I think I learnt that walkthroughs exist because of Abes Exodus :D
Noooooo, abe is a legend! It was brilliant but it's hard to explain why... Amy will probably get what I mean as she remembers it. Plus, from what I remember, there was a button where you could make Abe fart for no apparent reason.
Now, if that's not worthy of a classic game...
I don't like difficult games. I didn't really have any sorts of platform games as a kid.
But you liked Broken Sword! Both the first and second game look me months and months to work out...
Ah Broken Sword. I think when I get home I'm just gonna have to go through a load of old games now.
Actually now I think on it, I liked Rayman!
Oh yeah, they were a lifetimes work.... I played those games when I was about 8 though.... It was years and years until I mastered the first one.
I love the PSN. For years and years and years my brother and I tried to find a copy of Kula World because we once had a demo disc with it on and always wanted to play it, and it was so hard to find. But then it came out and I downloaded it and life was good. Until I got stuck and gave up. This is a recurring theme with my games, I have only ever reached 100% of a game three times, and all of them were Crash Bandicoot ones :D
In my head though, that's a different sort of difficult, you can wander about and just try things without any time pressure. It's not about timing aiming and jumping and stuff.
It's good that you reposted it and added your own input though - not everyone checks back through the comments ;)
...Kula World is on there? Seriously?
Are they going to have the driver Mika Maki in the Mucke?
yeah I know what you mean, that's why I like them type of games. Plenty of time for my mind to catch up ;)
I played it briefly!
well they need to now after you mentioning it :D
it was one of the first games they put on there back in '07 :D
How on earth did I miss that? Well I know what is being purchased this afternoon then.
Wiki says "Kula World was also extremely popular when released, which made acquiring it quite difficult. Ordinary copies can cost over £60 due to its rarity" so I'm glad I wasn't going insane when I couldn't find it. People I mentioned to thought I had dreamed that it ever existed 'well you're a beach ball, and you roll around, and you eat fruit....'
:D
Reminds me of when I explained the Katamari games to a friend in world who wanted something new and different to play. "You roll a ball, and everything gest stuck to it, and it gets bigger and bigger, and it has funny music". They haven't asked me for suggestions since.
Ten to tackle: Jenson Button
Ten out of Ten Baby!!!
I like the look of the BMW here:
http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2009/10/01/latest-issue-–-november-2009/
am I the only one?
Jenson Button is named after a Dane??? Why didn't anybody tell me this before???
nope ;)
Really?
He was named after a car yesterday! Tomorrow he will be named after a sausage or something.
I got seven which is soooo not bad for me :)
The BBC Quiz and wikipedia confirm it...
I think he was named after that guy on that show. Ackles or whatever his name is.
Discover Simple, Private Sharing at Drop.io
oops. i'll try again
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jeremy-jenson-score-png
Why do my graphs never look like they are supposed to look? :(
Can I help? I'm alright with graphs...
No you can't. :( The problem are the measurements not the graphs. Let's me rephrase: Why don't I ever manage to measure in a way that in the end my graphs look like they are supposed to look like?
I'm not here..
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8315951.stm
Ohh Danny has updated the FR scores (because of Heikki's penalty)
That's naughty - aren't they supposed to be fixed when the chequered flag drops?
Bloody geolocked! (guess I better get back to work ;) )
Well if you still need help later give us a shout, I'll see what I can do...
That was a blatant plug ;)
No.
In the event of any race results being amended through appeal or disqualification after race-day, the amendments will NOT be reflected in respect of this competition. The original results will stand. In any event, the decision to amend results as a result of appeal / disqualification will be solely at the discretion of FSPORTS.
the race results had been amended at the same day and on top of that he can do whatever he wants :)
Thanks.
Christ, I didn't know Danny was an FIA Steward ;)
really interesting hearing the voices of the press corps. just heard alan baldwin. also fun figuring out how the guy from the mirror might top spin the "jenson loves sleazyjet" headline.
shall see tomorrow, but jenson's doing well.
Fifth gear *may* have been cancelled
I guess it LOOKS like Tiff Needell may have to find ANOTHER jobbbbbb.....
hehe. daily mirror guy got jessie's birthday wrong.
we need more televised press conferences.
croftie is seriously plugging "virgin media speedweek". i have no idea what that is?
Where's Lou???
oh. jenson's karting at bluewater today?
I would have thought they would have done it in the afternoon, what with him flying back from Brazil and everything!
The problem is that DRM is associated With Rootkits and all other nasty stuff.
People also are aware technology is largely transient and disposable, and they will replace their devices, but they dont want to pay for something again.
There would be a very big market if anyone could do DRM sensibly and market it to consumers
I am amazed. How????
looks like he's driving fans around and stuff. plus it gives the press more time to file their stories.
presumably the conference was a last minute addition.
In all honestly I dont see digital music as something worth paying for.
If i like something and want to listen to it a lot i will buy the CD
How did I get stuck? The only people I could find to fight all beat me! I could not win! I kept dying!
You should have made yourself more spikey and angry looking! :D
Woohoo, cancewlled lecture means home early :D
And now on with Kula World. Amy, you have caused an afternoon to be wasted. #CheersAmy
yay! Stay away from the pills ;)
is that on the iPod?
Nah, PS1 game on the PS3's Playstation Network.
Too many P's in that sentence
He was named after a Car... His dad probably felt guilty and went around trying to find somone else with the name to cover hsi tracks...
More importantly, why hasn't he got a propar zummerzet accent? It's exactly what F1 needs.
I love the name Jenson.
You survived!
Are you disappointed?
Hehe, more relived! have you fixed the boiler?
No! My landlord came over to poke at it and he couldn't get it to work either.
Is Lou here? :D
I'm not sure what time she finished school... I'm sure she's there by now though
I think she said she could only go from 2... hope she doesnt miss it or jules will be in trouble! ;)
Something for the girls (or guys who like wearing high heels and have small feet)
Carbon fibre shoes: http://minimalissimo.com/2009/09/mojito-shoe/
Now isn't that a bit nifty? Coming to an F1 paddock near you...
...what the heck is that?!
A shoe. They're things people wear when they go... outside.
It looks awesome. Quite uncomfy though.
Oh yes, those... shoes things. Dastardly little devices they are with the whole laces business and all that razzamatazz.
That looks like a sculpture though!
Lou's leaving school now apparently, just got a text as she was mentioned in the comments.
Headpinger wins again I suppose :P
I hope she gets there in time!
I know, I was actually reading about Wacom's new range of tablets and that was on the same page.
Has to be the first shoe I've ever got excited about.Run Lou, RUN!!!
Thats amazing! If i had somone to buy a pair for I would!
Absolute genius, i am very impressed.
I hope she isnt wearing carbon fibre shoes... it looks awfully easy to fall out of them ;)
And then the red flags would be out while they clear up the shards of carbon fibre...
:D ouch!
Dell refunds PC user for rejecting Windows
COOL!
Hahah, I like it!
Meh. Some things are worth arguing over and some things.....
I dislike his blog theme, but a great story anyway.
When I look at getting a new PC the difference in price for Windows or no OS is approx £100!
I see your point - you could argue that if he was that tech-savvy then why not just build a PC himself?
Or request the computer without the OS. Some people just like starting arguments.
Wow! Trulli is still complaining about Sutil.
I really don't see what Trulli's problem is, in fact it sounds more like his own fault the more he tries to explain what Sutil did wrong.
It was a straight i treated it like a straight.... however it was realy a corner so i started to run out of road, however by the time i realised this there was no track left because the guy in front of me who realised it was a corner was there already.... I crashed, but it was all his fault!
He seemed genuinely very angry though.... Why would you behave like that if it was your fault? He should just have stopped his car though rather than careering back into the road and smacking into Alphonso.
he is right, in that he was alongside and sutil absolutely must've seen him. the onboards show that.
in 50/50 situation you'd have to favour experienced trulli over the nightmare that is sutil (look at what he did to nick recently).
i need more angles.
Because he's out of a job in 2 weeks time and so now is not the time to be admitting to not knowing the difference between a straight and a corner?
He didnt actualy hit lsonso that was sutil flying across the track backwards after turilli took him out ;)
I think he was under pressure to keep his drive and he went for a risky move which didnt come off and he is trying to cover it by blaming sutil who has a reputation for taking people out.
Unfortunatly the video says otherwise....
does it though? do we have a clear shot?
Ah I see. I remember being annoyed at the time that whoever it was didn't stay on the grass rather than flying into the middle of the track.....
Thing is, Trulli admits he's aware that the car in front of Sutil had a problem - therefore Trulli should have been more careful.
In fact wasn't it Sutil that did that last race too and smacked Heidfeld? Did that happen in my head?
he was in the blindspot for most of the corner though, by the time he popper up there sutil would have had to have been the one to take avoiding action.
I doubt he even saw him, the tyres were only level for a miniute, and sutil was probably distracted watching what raikonen was up to.
If it was a straight Trulli would have a point, but it was a corner, and sutil was following a car he didnt have a clue what it would do next, or if anything would fall off it.
Or if he chooses not to, accept the consequences.
i'm confused looking at this picture:
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1320645
where is alonso, and how can he have seen anything?
Presumably Alonso was saying that Sutil punted him off and Trulli decided he was responsible for the whole affair.....
verry true... I think alsonso didnt want to get involved in a discussion with a very angry italian when he was probably quite disapointed himself..
Alonso must be the one who took the photograph ;-)
hehe, that sounds about right!
Trulli was desperate to get a drive next year - when have we last seen him race and get hyped up like that?
depends. if it were schumi in sutil's place, we'd be saying he drove trulli off the track. so why not the same for sutil?
he came 2nd in suzuka.
he came second in Singapore too. But I think he was more agitated in Brazil.
wasn;t that glock?
I dont think we necessarily would.
If trulli hadnt gotten all stroppy we would probably have forgotten it as a racing incident.
Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument! :D
but he did. and because he did, i'd say there must be at least some reason for it.
and sutil has previous.
He shouldn't have smacked Alonso. I don't understand why he did. It looked totally unnecessary.
huh?
I'm pretty sure that was Ralf Schumacher who came seconhahaha, ah I'm sorry.
That's not even believable.
Lol I don't mean punching.... It just looked like Sutil was off the road having been hit by Trulli, decided to guide it back onto the track rather than stop and went right into Alonso.
Yes... but only because we don't like Schumi ;-)
Poor Ralf.
i'm not sure he had any choice, wasn't he out of control and sans wheels/brakes?
I'd need to watch it again. It looked like there was a lot of runoff though and he chose to head for the track.
I was thinking back to older Toyota drivers, it was originally Franck in that sentence but I feared what would happen to me posting on SPC if I included him in such a way ;)
Id say that that was one reason, the pressure for him to keep his drive was another. I was the first to laud sutil as a complete and dangerous idiot after what he did in singapore, but I dont think he was to blame there...
i think if he did that, he'd have been banned for life.
alonso should've taken better evasive action though.
what about in suzuka, with kovi?
Sutil looked like a passenger by that point. Trulli did the same thing in Spain (to Sutil funnily enough).
How could he have avoided Sutil? He got T-boned!
Am leaving home now to get me a pic of a button :) failing that shopping is fine....
Use those elbows Lou!!
Good luck! Power your way through :P
he saw the incident, allegedly. so he knew there was fast a car off to his right, he should've anticipated it and slowed.
Or cry "swine flu! coming through!"
You might be right actually he does seem to straighten the car and aim for the track.
That was stupid and possibly dangerous, i will have to look for the replay later in the race to be sure
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8313384.stm
I haven't seen it since it happened but that was what I thought at the time. I remember being quite annoyed. I'm just getting to the bit in my recording. I can't jump forward, everytime I try I just get to shots of them fighting....
Hmm maybe - I am assuming his FOV is the same as the roll bar camera here, of course...
I'm convinced, he absolutely heads for the road!! He thinks he's gonna just cut over the grass and rejoin. The camera is just too busy watching Trulli to show it properly.
Its on the end here, it does appear he is trying to rejoin the track completly out of control which is utter madness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcBN3jV-GGY
Straight after that, Trulli goes a little bit Piquet then Heikki goes all pyromaniac on Kimi, presumably the stewards had enough to deal with, it just got forgotton.
strongly disagree. looks like he hits a bump.
Alonso doesn't seem too bothered by it, just gets straight in the marshall's truck
Presumably he's trying to keep his nose clean for the end of this season at least.
oblivious, is the word that comes to mind.
OK then.
Sutil was ahead and Trulli tries to barge through - it was Trulli's fault.
I am not sure Sutil is fully under control but he does steer toward the track.
Alonso could see him for aaages before yet does not react until Sutil is almost in front of him...
But looking at the angle the car was facing when it went off, he appears to turn it left to head back towards the track, then before he hits the bump he has turned it right to merge back in. the bump throws him off completly and he hits alonso.
I dont think he was competly in controll of the car, buti wouldnt mind seeing what he is doing with the steering wheel on an extended onboard
He definitely steers for the track sharply which makes sense as he's heading for the barrier but he's got miles of braking room. He'd probably have tapped the barrier. I'm sure he could have stopped before the track. He mustn't have thought his car was too badly damaged. Maybe he could have rejoined pre Alonso collision.
Alonso blatantly can't see the initial incident according to that on-board view
There was an escape road right there.... When he got his hands back on the wheel, I still think he could have made it down there, he didn't even try.
Why did he let go of the wheel like that anyways?
Because the sheer force of the bump knocked them off - or he let go in fear of breaking his wrists?
no. i think the front suspension collapses.
agreed.
same word came to my mind when watching him avoid sutil, a guy he's supposed to have seen take out trulli in great detail.
...but no brakes!!
the latter. it's the right thing to do.
I once watched this desert survival programme with one of those survival men and he made me really paranoid about keeping my thumb inside the wheel....
He just kept going on about how hitting a rock can turn the wheel violently and break your thumbs. Now I can't drive with them inside the wheel without feeling a bit sick.
Actually, Sutil DOES move over for Trulli. Trulli spins out on the grass after that.
Plausible - the front wheels appear to buckle but then the camera gets covered in mud.
Yeah, I thought that but I didn't want to seem like a Sutil hater.
Yeah - Sutil has both corners and leaves room for Fisichella, who draws alongside him and then falls back. Then he taps Sutil....
Was his visor covered in mud?
isn't that where romain when off and smashed his car to pieces on saturday. we know that it's very, very bumpy down there.
Quite possibly.
Also plausible...
Why because Romain lost it there? :P He can spin going down a straight :D
he bounced his car 3 feet into the air.
It all depends on the magnitude and direction of the impact force ...
true, i didnt realise he had his hands off the wheel like that
but. you agree that it's very bumpy. right?
sutil isn't driving on flat ground with four wheels pointing in the right direction. he is completely out of control.
Yes of course - he was a passenger from the point that Trulli hit him. It does appear that he is under control after the bumpy bits as he tries to rejoin the track...
If he took his hands off the wheel, would he have taken his feet off the pedals?
romain on saturday:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/grosjean-crash-png
and
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/grosjean-puddles-png
no. that isn't necessary during an accident.
either way, he had no brakes and or was braking on marsh ground.
Why were there no tyres there? If there had been, going closer to the barrier would have been more of an option. There are some on both sides of that section, why not there where 2 cars had accidents and there were a couple more near misses over the weekend.
I feel less like he was responsible now I've seen the onboard though. It looks like he actively steered for the track but now I see he was just getting his hands back on the wheel and his face was covered in mud.
Ah, i wasnt sure.
On the one hand you would definatly take you foot off the gas to stop your self going faster.
I wasnt sure about the brakes, because whilst it makes sense to try and slow yourself down, if you have lost one of your wheels you may not want to risk spiining the car and hitting sideways? I guess it makes sense to brake anyway , any speed lost it good!
i concur
Right rear looks to have gone too if you look at the view from Alonso's.
Wouldn't sliding sideways into the barrier have slowed you down a lot and spread the force of the impact? I thought that was better than head on?
so my conclusions...
1. trulli was hung out to dry by sutil. ran out of kerbing and hit a bump on the grass, which bounced him out of control and into the back of sutil.
2. alonso could see nothing of that accident. and apparently also managed to miss an incoming, but out-of-control sutil.
i'd argue sutil was acting unfairly and could've given trulli more room into that corner.
Not on bumpy grass - you stick it into a barrel roll if you're not careful
Also, his car 'hops' onto the track right before Alonso - so it's not like he meant to hit him...
agreed. that went when trulli hit him.
I would say that it was half true, but i doubt sutil was aware of him and trulli could have avoided the accident.
definatly
Lol I was never claiming he was aiming for Alonso! That really would be ban worthy.
my guess is alonso assumed he would slide right on by, but instead he "hopped up"?
I know you weren't ;)
Found this on twitter: RT @jsummerton: up and ready and training hoping to hear some good news soon. Sucks sitting and waiting wish I had sponsors to go to teams.
I wonder if USF1 will anonce in Abu Dhabi or wait and do it in the states with some sponsors, i guess that is more likely
Why? You can't see from Sutil's onboard, how much of an overlap Trulli had on him.... When Sutil moved over, he couldn't just drop back to avoid it, he had to go onto the grass which we've decided was very slippy, bumpy etc and he lost it.
if sutil wasn't aware of him, then he clearly is the next david couthard.
I agree.
I think Alonso thought he was safe until the 'hop'...
probably, but he was going really fast with damp tires, he was probably hoping to get to the runn off area and rejoin from there
Do you think Sutil was distracted by his bogey driver being in front of him?
I think Alonso expected Sutil to go one way, drover around it, but then was caught out by the 'hop'
Force india have those silly mirrors now and he was pretty distracted. I dont think around the outside of that corner is the most sensible place to overtake when you know the guy in front of you is trying to make his way past a wounded car.
But yes, i would agree he is the next DC!
I can't believe Webber had the bottle to ram Kimi off the road again btw after what happened last time. Maybe it's a lucky omen for him now or something.
I think Trulli was overly ambitious in trying to go around the outside with a damaged Ferrari preoccupying Sutil - it was either going to work or it wasn't and Trulli just has to accept that it didn't - I don't think Sutil could have done a lot else.
How was Trulli supposed to know the Ferrari was damaged from behind?
he said he knew it was going slowly
He says he knew, apparently. He also said Alonso saw everything so we might have to move Trulli to GMM status on this matter.
Trulli to release a load of original, highly researched complaints every day?
Jensons press conference is on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8316517.stm
Love the way he plugs monster :D
You can tell something is wrong because Kimi exits the first corner in an oddly slow way and Sutil reacts to it. That's how Trulli caught up...
Cheryl Cole's "miming" on X-factor could be next on his list
Followed by a Stephen Gately rant
I dont even watch that show. But when the judges start performing i suspect i am not missing an awful lot!
Apparently neither do NOTW journos but that doesn't stop them from writing a critique
They never wrote them for stars in their eyes!
am confused. neil mccormick (a man i have a huge amount of time for), says it was live?
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/neilmccormick/100004174/
Showing your age? :P
From what I have read she sung the verses and mimed the choruses for dance purposes.
we had a tv channel in dubai which showed programmes from british tv... it was verry old stuff!
Although by the way you recognise it maybe you are showing yours! :D
NOTW slated her miming in the first issue on Sunday. They changed it by the second edition on account of the fact that she hadn't actually sung yet because she was actually performing on Sunday night's program, not Saturday's. Ooops.
I think they might still make it?
This is truely Too Much Information.
oh lord.
As much as that program annoys me, that is shocking.
By the way, has anyone else mentioned that the Apple online store is down?
Apparently only in New Zealand... bet Amys a fan! ;)
makes sense.
Okay, no. It was cancelled in 2006 apparently.
new imacs and stuff.
More details for those interested: http://www.bobkingsley.co.uk/blog/?p=1806
It even prompted LeeMcK to tweet about it!
As usual, we'll have to wait and see.
am interested in the mouse/trackpad thingy.
I want a new computer. I was going to get a desktop, I never really transport my laptop, it might as well be stationary and work better.....
Thank goodness we have some politics to discuss! RT @JRobertsF1: More news: the elections will be supervised by a Huissier de Justice and, Mr Todt and his team will take the floor first... #f1
Have you considered getting very angry at your old one and deleting/replacing windows on a whim? ;)
It's too late for a refund.....
Not exactly excited about this one, but there ya go.
Wait, hang on, why do the candidates still need to take the floor? They're still gonna allow the candidates to make a pitch on the day of the election?
This is the interesting tweet, though:
What could Max have told Ari to make him withdraw it?
Now seeing they'll be allowed to do so, I find that a bit odd. Usually, candidates aren't allowed to make pitches anymore on the day itself.
Is this NOTW in making things up shocka? ;)
You will win :P
To be honest, that's what I was thinking...
Ari has presumably made his point.
It wasn't a legal action he was going to win anyway.
I guiess its a bit like the olympics. It makes sense, although i still dont like the idea of proxy voting
Them and Trulli (alledgedly)
Eurgh I don't want to go to work :( Don't make me go!
I guess it might not be so cold there at least.
Apparently quadbike have passed the fit and propper test to own a team in the football leauge (on skysports news)
That's good and well, but that won't help them get a spot on the F1 grid.
Trending is a very odd thing on Twitter - "No God" is today's "thing"
Anyway, it got me to wondering if God has a twitter account...
http://twitter.com/god
I was wondering that just now. Apparently, it should've read "No God, No Peace", but Twitter's algo chopped it in half in the trends.
Divine intervention?
Hmmm. More like digital intervention...
FakeMansell keeps trying to use trending topics to end his sentences, but they never work because any symbols or punctuation end the hashtag and ruin the effect!
Hahaha!
Hey all.
Am 90% certain I saw Natacha Gachnang in town this afternoon.
Is she related to Miley?
Apparently not!
F2!
and you didn't get a picture?
Oooh really? She's cool!
Any more 1-2 1-2 1-2 results lately? :D
Now I can't be sure, but I wasn't sure why she was opening an account at the local co-operative bank.
Noise cancelling earbuds rock!
Standard iPod earphones on a train = 80% volume and loads of leakage
Earplug- style earbuds - about 15% and no noise pollution!
With that level of consistency she must be in contention for an F1 drive! ;) :P
Its all about cans!
For some reason, I usually prefer regular earbuds, because if I use noice-cancelling ones, I won't hear it if anyone is calling me...
They are super awesome.
Except when I can;t hear anyone in work :D
But they make you look like a twit! Plus what's the point of an ultra thin portable music thingy with huge bulky headphones....
Cans are rrrrrubish - bought some very expensive Sennheisers last year - not as good a sound quality as I expected and they broke in two months!
Very true - so at work I have to use standard earbuds so people can yell at me ;)
:D
Speaking of sound, I'm surprised no one's still figured out what score was used for the Jenson Master of the Universe montage. I've tried 4 different forums (plus Google search) and nothing, zip, nada.
I have some JVC ones, I bought them in 97 as a young lad and still use them to this day, they are amazing!
I should as well really... using noise cancelling headphones in a freezer room is probably a stupid idea...
...but the sound quality is so good! *runs*
5liveF1 just confirmed to me that crofty didnt hitch a lift a ride with jenson in the private jet! ;)
Poor Mansell... Still breaking down just before the end ;)
That must be a health and safety violation - I would strongly suggest that unless you are encouraged to wear ear protection that you switch to normal earbuds...
To compensate they had webber on the flight celebrating his win!
I was joking, I'm not that stupid ;)
Phew... I thought you were but I wasn't sure dude!
huh? mine are basically invisible. they fir inside the ear canal.
She was dissing the cans bro :D
oh... so she's saying christine looks like a twit during live debrief?
;)
#sorryalison
I think she ment my cans...
I dont use them for short journeys, but they are great for flights or train trips.
block out all the sound, and dont hurt my ears after an hour or so!
(you look like a twit :P)
I know you are but what am I ;)
Bully! I have witnesses this time.....
You started it!
I even have a quote!!!
Funnily enough the new headset for my computer is a nice set of cans - but they have proper coverage over the ear and sound great. I just don't like the idea of big earphones with an iPod...
They make one look like a twit.... Is that better for you?
I am rubber, you are glue
So do the earbuds - and are so much more portable for travelling....
I am rubbergoat, you are tin can!
I find cans get my ears too hot, and also they always make me worry that Alison is going to go around calling me a twit ;)
:D :D
You run THAT fast?
You fight like a dairy farmer ;)
They do make your ears warm... and you get used to the buds very quickly...
I havent had heating problems, maybe you have it because people are talking about you! :P
Considering most dairy farmers I know, I would not like to fight them!
Yes Alison calling me a twit ;)
:P
sorry...
Alison calling one a twit ;)
Errrm I'm out of pirate related insults. I'm not ready to fight the sword master I'm afraid.
One thing I'm sure of is that my dad must have really wished I was a boy!
You are supposed to respond to the "You fight like a dairy farmer" one with... "How appropriate, you fight like a cow".
Ahhh I see. Well in that case there are no words to describe how disgusting you are.
Yes there are. You just never learned them. ;)
AWESOME.
This conversation is unnerving me a little... I'm not sure why all this useless tat is stuck in my head.
It cant be useless if you are using it!
You keep telling yourself that!
Aww reading back on the comments made me realised there was more Monkey Island insults going on rather than the one I say. Although I missed it all because of a lovely chicken tikka which was super yummy...
...no it did not have mint sauce Alex
I have gottenan emal about the Brooklands mercedees event. Apparently i am on the reserve list so i am hoping that Jackie has a spare ticket!
Horseradish goes wel with curry , not as good as spaghetti bolognaise, but good none the less!
phew!
you eat spaghetti bolognaise with curry?
oops! no just with horseradish, it is my culinary discovery of the year!
I love the way google reader looks with my firefox pluggin. http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/firefoxgreader-jpg
I have almost gotten ff to be good enough to make up for not using chrome. Almost!
madness. Utter madness.
Interview with Sebastian Hohenthal done.
Amy will be happy, he sounds alot like Heikki
Did you ask him if trulli or sutil was in the right? :P
ummm......
no
but i did ask him the question you wanted me too, i forget which one it was, but wrote all the ones that were said here and asked him them
Lou update:
She forgot her zoom lens in a rush so she says she won't have very good photos (they'll probably still be better than any I can do ;)) but she's seen Jules and Crofty, but not in the best place to see jenson. Must be packed there, which makes sense really...
She should totally try and say hello to Jules I say :P
Did it have a pulley in the middle?
As long as she can see crofty MrC will be happy ;)
Anyways. Work is calling out to me.... I should really be leaving in 5 minutes but I don't even know where my uniform is.
It should've!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79642
Ari vary 'appy with the courty (i'll stop rhyming now)
Byeeeee
Adios Amigos
*waves from the comments*
See ya later!
hey everyone :D I uploaded to the drop what I've done in uni today because it was a lot of fun except I don't think it worked.
i see a train!
(except you have to download it first)
Lou update:
She saw Joss Stone! Which... is completely random for a F
It deleted half my post! Cheeky.
absolutely, that woman is banned from leaving the uk.
Yay, i now have firefox completly looking like and working like chrome, and i have spotify working!
Dont know why i didnt upgrade to linux before! :D
hmmm. not as impressive as i'd hoped.
ooh it looks good though!
it does. i kinda wanted a flat trackpad built into the keyboard though.
I wonder if you can use it as a trackpad if you dont want to move it around?
at least it can't be worse than the mighty mouse.
"make one great gesture after another."
did james allen write this copy?
:D
£55.00
*gulps*
yeyy thats awesome
yeh drop.io doesn't like flash :(
I like Tuesdays, I get to do fun things in Flash.
can ya make us a trulli-o-meter?
hmm, should be able to :D
w00t!
i'm liking 1TB of server, in a box the size of 5 CD cases:
http://www.apple.com/macmini/server/
silent, cool, and loads of storage. the perfect media centre... christine?
#sidepodspace update - especially for Amy
The first shuttle replacement vehicle test launch will take place in 7 days time at a time still to be set. The vehicle has been delivered to the pad today
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/constellation/ares/flighttests/aresIx/index.html
Its about £600 ... I dont know how much servers cost, is that good?
It will be a very basic one for now, I don't know much yet ;)
THe hearing into Flavio's case against th FIA will be on November 24. Looks like we ar in for a lively off season then.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79630
And I was looking forward to kicking my feet up.
It's going to be a busy off season with all the new teams and drivers etc. We also have to see what happens to Toyota's 2010 budget
Positvie BMW/QADBAK/That Lot news. Notts County owners have passed the fit and proper persons test, so hopefully, just a wait until a team drops out then.
depends what you're buying, but for a tiny server, with that much storage, i say "bargain".
That's an interesting development. I wasn't expecting that
Looks like Renault are considering Bruno Senna. I wonder if this gives us any clue as to who will be the new team principal.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79634
Lotus want to be involved in Indycars, GT racing and Le Mans
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/244217/
sounds like Notus is just the begining, it will be interesting to see the company develop under danny bahar
Does it make prost more or less likely?
Makes my potential drobo purchase more complicated.
I am not sure. It just seems odd that he has never been mentioned at Renault before and now that Flav has gone he is in with a chance of testing
it does. the more i think about it, the more i like the idea. it's not expandable like the drobo, but you could plug a freesat dongle into it and have yourself a HD recorder too.
I still think Renault should get Nick - its a stable combination that will score some points until they get back on their feet.
presumably he was tied to honda before in someway and is now free(er)?
Renault video from Brazil, it is all images and the music starts to get anoying (for me anyway ;)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLRAGbZRg60 they used Stupeflix. :)
I really don't need one of those I don't think. But then I already have a pvr.
The dongle. The rest... Well the problem I have is that my main machine has 2 x 1Tb hard disks. And what I'd really like to do is have a proper backup so I think the drobo is still better in some ways. However... The drobo is just a disk. It isn't also so much more.... Hmmm...
hehe, I know what you mean but i just had the image of a freesat dongle with attached dish :D
depends what happens if f1 goes hd i guess? if the bbc can stream it, that'll be fine, otherwise a dual core decoder with masses of storage might suddenly become more interesting.
Because we work with such huge data files so I am still mulling over various options to equip my training lab - I need 72 so I feel I need to really get it right. So far Shuttles with Core 2 Quad processor, 4GB Ram 1.5 TB drives and I GB video cards look the best option and with 1900 res monitors and keyboards work out here in SA at about 500 GB pounds.
is christine's kidney still available? i'm loving the jony ive 27" imac:
http://www.apple.com/imac/#video
See that's what I was thinking... Bit more expensive though...
78% more pixels though!
INFINITY more pixels than the mac mini ;)
hehe.
Apple should hire me for plugging ;)
here's scary thought. with the new releases, the top of the range all-in-one imac is now more powerful that the bottom of the range mac pro. and... it's cheaper.
i have no idea how that works, because the imac comes with a screen, more ram and more hard drive space!!
You can't have my kidney!
What is the price? I do like that 27inch iMac! Bet Linux would run well on them.
£1,599.00 incl. VAT
mac pro with 1GB less ram and 350GB less hard drive space = £1,899.00 incl. VAT
That is a scary thought. I've specced out the Mac that I need. Mr C I think I may need to borrow your, Katherine and Christine's kidneys...
£14,147.98 incl. VAT
*faints*
:(
Still expensive, but I do like iMacs - best looking thing you can have on your desktop.
what???
the most i can spend on a single machine is: £3,078.99

That's a bit of hardware there!
are you decoding the human genome?
I have already promised Mr C a kidney, and if I give you the other one, I'm gonna be a bit stuck.
:P
yay! go you.
I think I could almost certainly get more done with one... That's all I'm saying ;)
Cheers - how many minutes on Sidepodcast is that? ;)
Ah.. Good point.
In better news. Congrats Mr C on securing the kidney ;)
Well done mate :)
from daniel at bluewater:
"...well, the first bit was a bit of a disappointment, but the
interview with Croft inside was good. Jenson was about 15 foot away, so filmed most of it on my phone. About ten to fifteen questions, then he did autographs."
By the way I didn't include AppleCare on that because I hear things like that can be a bit of a rip off ;)
not sure i follow?
How many minutes on SPC to get 1,000 page views
I got 1000 page views in the most part of a day - how many minutes would that take here?
More clear than my attempt there - whoops!
Sorry to disappoint - already been done in fact the first draft of the Neanderthal Genome was completed earlier this year
oh. forever. because people fire up doohickey and leave it going for weeks and that's just one page view.
no stats package currently caters for doohickey/lclt so our numbers are not spectacular.
See that's how fast the machine is. I haven't bought it yet, but it is so fast it reversed time and solved the problem already. FACT!
Ah, I wondered about that... so if you leave doohickey open it only counts as one view then?
I never realized that not having decoded the Neanderthal genome was a problem!
Right I'm going to go and watch a movie... Hmmm... What to watch? I shall order dinner while I decide what to watch... Hmmm... What to order for dinner? Hmmm... I shall make some comments on Sidepodcast while I decide what to order for dinner... Hmmm... Commenting makes me forget that I wasn't supposed to be doing this in the first place.
yup. according to google.
goggle also thinks that after a couple of minutes of inactivity, the user has gone away, thus removes them from all stats.
i think the average page view time on spc is 3 minutes. which is nuts.
Well we now know them to be 99.5% similar genetically to us Homo sapiens
Big problem. Big computer!
Hello all. 2 questions.... what was the character's name of the team mate to Joe Tanto in"Driven" and how do I submit to the "100 reasons why JB is a great WDC"?
Wow, congrats!
Evening all.
Jimmy Bly and http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/100+Reasons+Why+Jenson+Button+Is+A+Great+WDC
Are you planning on running your own space program to challenge NASA?
What a usefull pice of information.
Next they will want to make them using genetic science! Have they not seen Jurrassic park!
The problem actually was quite big since the DNA had got broken and contaminated during the few thousand years it was lying around.
Tks bro!
Can answer number 2 for you. You can either post in the comments and one kind soul (possibly me) will add it to the wiki. Or you can sign onto the wiki, click on edit page on that page, and change it yourself.
I can do that now that I've dealt with the whole genome thing in the future and the past.
I kid you not there has been talk about recreating a Neanderthal - oh they had bigger brains than us - by about 15%.
You are a very kind soul!
It is important because, you know, it's part of the proof of evolution thing. Some people seem to want quite a lot of proof for that for some reason.
Brilliant!
Fist we have that lot in switserland with their giant earthquake making magnet, trying to kill us in the name of science, now they want to make a species of superkillers!
When then find some DNA of the hobbit - that would be an interesting Genome project you could use your computer for.
dancer?
:D Indeed!
They had about 30% more muscle than a modern human and a distinctly cannibalistic cuisine!
If you have done that already space should be easy
It just gets better.
I think that anyone who wants to try to do science should have to follow a flow chart:
Is this a good idea?
If No stop | If yes continue
Will this endager the whole Human race
If yes Stop | If No Check with someone to be sure!
I contributed to the list, I feel SO involved now.
What about validating the elven dimensions of reality also known as M theory!
It's only a matter of time before some nutter decides we can return the world to the condition it was in before humans took over. There are bound to be people who think they can put back all the vegetation and animals.
are they thinking of purchasing a supercomputer and answer to the name alex?
Bigger brains. more muscle and a liking for human flesh. What are the odds on them losing out to us a second time?
I was going to suggest vegetarians, but i think its more likely to be a robot
Possibly Marvin
Of course they became extinct not us - so that could be a problem to ask the computer to explain - of course if the answer is 42 you need to rethink your question.
Of course you have to ask yourself if not doing it might endanger the whole Human race too.
Imagine if they used the Swiss doughnut to create non-polluting energy production system?
2 hitchhikers references in 3 secconds... scary!
That's good. We want everyone here to feel involved
The important word is cannibalistic. We don't have to worry about them eating us. We're 0.05 different. They'll be eating themselves.
rumbled ;)
I am not that paranoid yet
To mangle a quote...
Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean you aren't Marvin.
The big problem with that is that it assumes they know the outcome or the posible outcomes. There are all sorts of things like post-it notes that exist because something totally unexpected happened
We survived climate change better - do really want to know? And we can throw better so we would beat the neaderthal cricket team rather easily!
"For the rest of us there is always sunday
The day of the week that reeks of rest but all we do is catch our breath so we can wade naked into the bloody pool and place our hand on the big black book
To watch the knives zigzag between our aching fingers
A vacation is a countdown
T minus your life and counting
Time to drag your tongue across the sugar cube and hope you get a taste."
From an American song.
#AlexWatch - The new alternative to Autumn watch
Dinner ordered. I went Chinese. Chicken with cashew nuts and yellow bean sauce, Beef ginger and spring onions and a chow mien.
The original version may have been 0.05 different but the version we bring back will have errors in it so they may end up closer to us than we expect
And the difference may turn out to make us taste to them like we have inbuilt seasoning!
Statistically speaking we are the same at 99.5% confidence limit, of and we eat them as well as they ate us - a completely mutual appreciation of the small genetic difference.
Two schools of thought one say we should be similar and the other says we should be less similar - typical scientists annot make up their minds and they argue the matter for millennia!
How's it, Steven Roy! I want you to know My GF get's excited when she hears your name. She thinks it's me. Kinda like "STEVEN!" then about 4 seconds later, I shout, "ROY, BITCH!" :D
So you do not know actually what your are eating!
Mum should have named me "Jack"
don't follow?
Someone is missing a cat named Fluffy...
It's the old two economists-four opinions argument. You can argue round the facts to make your own case
Great song title! "The Last Meow"
Ah...
The cat's in the kettle at the Peking Moon...
sings.. "My cat was so nice, now lays on rice..."
Oh boy...
Should have gon for spag bol with horseradish....
I made a bit too much so there are some leftovers in my fridge.
The shelf i chose is #confidential ;)
I assume this is in the podcasts. You should send an e-mail or voicemail in and it would be you.
We don't get much Foster's here, just enough to still have the ability to think.
Steven, Yeah, I know. My time is pressed. I would rather enjoy listening to it. GREAT commentary.
GP2 Asia is on Eurosport this weekend. should be a good preview of YAS
I thought it was an F1 support race?
I do not get that here, how's Senna doing?
That's what I thought, caught Silverstone last year.
GP2 Asia is a winter series (although its not really a series this year)
I dont think Bruno has been racing in European GP2 this year, I think he did do a test the other week
GP2 Asia site says its in 9 days time.
hey everyone :)
last apple update from me:
"What's really incredible is a new feature for the iMacs that allows them to act as external monitors or HDTVs. You'll be able to attach DVD players, Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles, or even other computers, and display them on the bright, clear, iMac display."
http://www.tuaw.com/2009/10/20/first-look-new-imacs-announced-and-theyre-incredible/
lou!
Its being used as a test for the track. It will support at sakhir next season
Hi Lou. Good day?
hi mr c.. how are you?
You didnt die from excitement! :D
I thought it was a test
lou!!!!!
hi ;)
I'm now all confused.
very good. did you meet
croftiejenson?very good day :) even tough i didn't get any good photos i don't think (i stupidly was in such a rush i forgot to pick up my zoom lens - fail!) but i saw Jenson, Jules, Nicola, Croftie and erm... strangely.. Joss Stone...
Jenson is really funny.. and Crofite is a legend! :)
Still wanting to trade your spouse's kidney for a silicon chip?
LOL
Who is Nicola?
Aparently it has been changed toa support race. the original calendar had it this weekend. they are also down from 3 circuits to just 2...
*jumos out from being lurkeh*
I should have something to share with the world later :D tis coming along nicely.
*goes back into busy lurkeh*
i.e. next weekend
sadly not :( too many crazy people.. plus you couldn't get anywhere near them.. i may have made a mistake and gone to the track bit first rather than the stage bit to get myself a good place :( i arrived at the stage an hour early and i still didn't get a good place to stand. Croftie made everyone sing 'we are the champions' though :D which was awesome
Ummm, isn't there loads of tracks in asia?
Confirmed.. this weekend is a test, the following weekend is a race.
Great stuff!
God, did you guys hear him tear that song up?
I guess it's kinda hard to be in key with 700+ HP behind you.
the Brawn GP PR lady who is always in the back of interviews with Jenson and Rubens since Jules wasn't here..
Press Officer?
They restricted it to the gulf to cut costs.
Still doesnt make any sense going to Yas, and Bahrain twice.
They could have easily gone to Dubai for little money, and I am surprised they havent gone to Losail either
It is a test. You can't have a support race this weekend if there is nothing to support?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79055
Did you ask jules why she wasnt at the races?
I agree.
Fantasy Racers for Brazil is done ;)
Thats what i said, it has been changed to a support race?
couldn't get near her i'm afraid :(
Although, having recently watched the GP2 Asia Losail rounds from earlier this year, the marshalling there was terrible.
There is a test this week and a race next week, nothing has changed.
That is a good point, if i move to dubai i might consider signing up to do some
Yeah. Think of a calendar
1: Yas
2: Dubai
3: Losail
--Winter Break--
4: Yas
5: Bahrain
6: Dubai
Not many tracks in the gulf
Is she the one who played with her blond hair a bit and then realised what Rubens was saying during his blah blah blah outburst and looked as if she wanted the earth to swallow her up without any sign she ever existed - it was hilarious.
I asked my cousin in Beirut about eh possibly of having a GP in Lebanon. He said, "Are you serious!? They miss their targets all the time here. I think we're practice for them, and WHERE do you think that bullet, bomb, missile, WHATEVER, will go?" Good point.
Thats the one!
4 more than there was 8 years a go!*
1 circuit every 2 years probably makes it one of the fastest growing motorsport regions on the world
That was one uncomfortable moment for a PR officer!
If she isnt there to shut him up whats the point in her being there?
Not a bad thought that. Tis where the money is though.
What they could do instead is like move it more east. Japan (x2), China (x2), Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia.
More races, more viable to have the competition in eastern asia.
Good plan. They'll get there with experience.
It's called "Payroll with a constituency.
She certainly was looking for the remote control to switch stations!
That would need air freight though, You can move it by road around the gulf because its all so close
I like my idea so much, I'm gonna blog it.
I still think if they'd combine F1 with WWE, it'd kick ass! WAIT... we have that.... NASCAR!
Hmmm, good point that. Though that would only need to be used for races in Japan?
So they can put out a statement saying it was taken out of context
It did used to be in eastern asia, it supported Sepang and maybe even china once?
I wouldnt want to move stuff like that by road in south east asia!
Okay, now its sounding like a less good of an idea ;)
On the left hand side we have Jarno weighing 64 KG and on the right we have Adrian weighing 70 KG
this is nicola.
This years schedule was probably the best they have had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_GP2_Asia_Series_season
In the first season they went to a seccond track in malaysia
I like her!
I watched some NASCAR this weekend do they ever have to change a gear or brake other than at the pits or when they have a little outing?
I saw that on a "Dog the bounty hunter" episode once...
Looks like a fairly decent idea.
That's the one!
EVERY little bump calls for a yellow, they ONLY change gear IN and OUT of the pits.... So it " I"m going left.... uhmmm. LOOK....I"m going left...another, uhh... LOOK!... I"m going left commercial.,......We're back...I"m going left...I"m going left...I"m going left"
It was Indonesia, and it was terrible
oops thats the one!
i learnt some things about Jenson today.
1. He likes chocolate buttons
2. But he prefers snickers at the moment
3. Out of all the f1 drivers and f1 people he would share a room with Ant Davidson (if he had to share a room with someone), because they get on really really well and he thinks the fact Ant is pocket size is kinda cute...
4. He is visiting the factory tomorrow to see everyone and will also be having a go in the simulator (presumably testing next years car bits and bobs..)
5. He loves it at Brawn and would like to stay... they just haven't started talking about contracts yet.
Is that doubling up to go on the wiki?
keep going.....
hadn't thought about it... but yes :)
I am shocked there is stuff you don't know about him
:P
I have to say it was not terribly exciting despite cars continually changing positions (even with Montoya driving) - sort like cycling and strategic leadership that goes with it- and I certainly did not understand the "Free Pass" - hope I am not offending any North Americans. It had some thing like 10 calls for yellow without apparent reason.
I
I wonder if ant got a seat on the plane?
Didnt know that Jenson thought he was cute! somone will have to tweet 5live with that for free practice!
where did the rest of my comment go?...
anyways..
I was sad when croftie made a few jokes about vettel and rubens (only nice joking ones) but only a few people in the audience knew who he was talking about :( i almost felt like shouting.. if you're not an f1 fan go away so i can get a photo.. but i didn't :D
only that the fact him being pocket size was kinda cute lol
no he didn't. it was team Jenson, and Shov, and i think that was it...
Hehe, that might have cause a scene!
What were the jokes? Is there a video of it anywhere?
Ah, Croftie wasnt, he was partying with Webbah all the way home!
ooh look it's that Jason Butson, he was in the paper
he did one longer one when we were outside.. but the ones i can remember were like refering to names.. cause he found out the sound guy was called lewis and he then said it was a good thing they weren't called Rubens or Sebastian... and other little things you would expect to get a chuckle from the crowd.. but hardly anyone around me knew what he was talking about.
As this is my first chance to get in the discussion since the race, I'd just like to say 'w00t!' for Jenson ;)
And I think I finally got Brazil's pit lane warning beeping sound out of my head.
I wonder which F1 drivers find other F1 drivers cute? One driver that is sure not get many votes for being cute is Fernando.
Possibly need a sidepodcast challenge for the cutest current F1 driver!
Shall refrain from being biased. If possible.
So whose your vote for Timo I guess?
i was plucking up courage to get closer to croftie once it all finished to say sidepodcast says hi.. but i got too nervous and ran away :)
eeeeeeeeekkkkkk!
hehehe
hehe. awww.
i needed someone to punch him for me you see...
Where's Chris when you need him eh.
hehehe i know!
sorry :(
i also needed a tall person to take pics for me :P
another time ;)
i know you were there, but have you watched the press conf yet:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8316517.stm
ooo.... nooo... i wasn't there for that....he was really really smiley though :D heheq
hehe thank you :) a day of Jensonness :) lovely :)
Woohooooooooo!!! I have finished my little project....
:D
Forza Forza Forza?
Nope, that's tomorrow night's project :D
This is F1 related though. Uploading now so.... be back soon...
Evening. You had a good day then Lou?
Was it worth going, toyed with the idea - but Bluewater's a long way from me here in Poole and I thought it'd be swamped with people!
Plus, sadly I have a job to do in the week. Pesky work...
i wouldn't have travelled hours to go to it... not without my zoom lens ;) the interview was great though :) the driving bit wasn't designed for spectators though i don't think..
did someone win a prize to sit with him?
wow, there have been 5 million tweets
Heres a pie chart of what they contained
they stayed up long enough for people to post that many? wow.
all the driving experiences with him were won i believe. except the ones for people like Crofty and some of the bbc camera men (one of whom wasn't very well afterwards lol)
wonder if they will put a clip of that on the 5livef1 site?
Mr C...quick question for you if you don't mind :)
shoot.
Are you any good at editing permalinks on wordpress? I can't seem to do it without killing my site for some reason. I wanted to tidy up some of the post titles but I can't get the bloody things to work!
it's possible. Crofty tried to bring the microphone with him.. but it went out of range quickly, all we heard was 'wwwwhhaaaaa.........' lol :D
hehe i think i meant billion!
And the sound we hear is Mr C fainting.
your server may not support it. firstly you really need to be hosted on a linux machine, windows seems to freak out at the very idea of them. secondly you need to ensure you have a .htacess file in the root directory of your site.
ATTENTION SIDEPODDERS! LAST CALL FOR BATRACER!!! Join up now if you want to play, I will start the game soon! (probably tomorrow!) many spaces left! There are already some of you guys joined up, spread the word!
Players will need to be registered and logged in before they can enter the private game. When logged in, clicking the following URL will take you to the join game page:
http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&47600
Alternatively, you can select "private games" from the menu and enter the number "47600" into the box. The game password is "podf1". Take care not to accidentally join a public game by mistake.
Yeah, I thought it was something like. I'm hosted with GoDaddy and the .htaccess files aren't available on my FTP programme.
I think that GoDaddy doesn't make them available as part of their auto installs.
Thanks though...
I'm pretty sure the permalinks use mod_rewrite.
I've been administering linux + Apache servers for years. mod_rewrite still confuses and infuriates me.
Ok, hopefully drop.io hasn't lowered the quality of the video too much but here's what I've been working on anyways - my tribute if you will to the wonderful guys over at Brawn GP and for the season they've had with a video entitled 'Invincible'. Hope you all like it :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/brawngp-wmv
Just my own little way of saying thank you and congrats for everything that's happened over 2009 to the team and to Ross and Jenson and everyone. :)
correct.
java does it better, but it is usable.
lukeh's "invincible":
Has Mr C seen the new iMacs and stuff yet?
WOW!
You are correct.
Java does do a better job of infuriating me ;)
yeah. baffled at what point there is to the mac pro now though. the 27" is a monster.
Alex, I've just seen your Mac Pro configuration. You don't need all that, you probably don't even need a Mac Pro to be honest.
he's redefining humanity.
that is just brilliant lukeh.
Donnington seem to be bringing in more people to help them sell bonds.
3 days togo i wonder if they have done enough?
http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?id=47245&PO=47245
Not sure I follow. That may be a beast of a machine, but it isn't sentient.
Lukeh, one whole rack of hats off to you. Twas awesome. Lovely put together. Nice stuff. Really was.
:)
you kinda have to follow the comments up/down.
yay :)
have had the ideas in my head all day when i was at uni and im glad it came together well!
Lukeh - that's just fantastic.
Do you mind if I link to it? People NEED to see that. A bloody brilliant piece of work mate.
love it!!
Go ahead!
It also makes me sad that Rubens is/may be leaving.
Ill say it again... WOW!
That was incredible!
hopefully he wont ;) he belongs at that team, as does Jenson..
Fingers crossed he won't :)
Lukeh ... that was up there with the BBC Montages - awesome stuff mate!
Me too, what a group the three of them made though... the best season ever!
Do you have a blog address? I can't remember - sorry! :)
http://toata.blogspot.com :)
I do not want to see any driver that cheats at Brawn - it seems wrong for the team. Rubens and Jenson also seem so right for each other as team mates.
Murray walkers Brazilian GP review is up http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/murraywalker/2009/10/my_brazilian_grand_prix_moment.html
how the heck did jenson pass grosjean like that? he'd given up the chase, but then sailed past him.
I think he scared him!
cause he is awesome!
also Croftie and Jenson made a joke today about your bff grosjean, mr c ;) they said thank god Jenson managed to stay ahead of him without Jenson'causing' an accident :D this was another thing only about 1/4 of the audience understood :)
:P
 I like that!
i could listen to Jenson and Croftie chat in a room for days!!
#sidepodspace
NASA have found anoter planet outside our solar system that has the basic chemicals needed for life. Two planets in such a short time means there are almost certainly billions of planets out there with the same basic chemicals.
So far we only have the technology to detect these chemicals on gas planets like Jupiter. The Kepler mission launched earlier this year will try to find rocky planets like Earth but it could be years before we find one with the basic chemistry for life.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/spitzer/news/spitzer-20091020.html
Easy. Grosjean took such a tight line into the first corner on the video so was apinfully slow on th exit. Jenson took the conventional wide line so could brake later, carry a higher speed to the apex and have a much higher corner exit speed.
Thats very exciting!
Hopefully they can send somone there when i get around to designing a warp 5 engine...
looked like he was standing still. jenson wasn't even smooth through the second corner.
By the time you get the engine sorted and design domething to hang it on they should have found a rocky planet to go to
at the rate they are goinjg i should probably give some thought to getting going on the project soon...
Jenson didn't need to be smooth through the second corner. By staying wide on the first one and making Grosjean stay tight the pass was already done. The only way Grosjean could stop him was to treat the corner like a block pass. Ignore the apex and just run Jenson wide. Brake almost to a stop and then turn at such a slow speed that Jenson couldn't make the pass but that would just have let anyone within in a few seconds pass both of them.
As soon as Jenson switched to the inside for the second corner it didn't really matter what he did because the third corner was also a left hander so Jenson had two corners where he had a huge advantage.

I have serious doubts that the national space agencies will be the first to go back to the moon. I can see one or more of the private space comapnies establishing a lunar base and going on to Mars. I can see the national space agencies disappearing completely in 20 to 50 years.
:D
The moon and mars are irrelevent... they are deserts, we have them on earth! Weh have to go meet the Vulcans, the klingons and perhaps more urgently the Andorians
This is MFC... It is also madness http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/10/ff_demandmedia/all/1
So no test flight to the moon just to try things out? Just jump in and point it at the Vulcans? We don't know anything about the moon apart from the top few inches of some of it and the same with Mars. We need to go there and see if there is anything useful. Besides you can't race until you have tested
If it isnt made of cheese then im afraid there isnt much to go for, similarly if mars isnt made of mars bars then we probably shouldnt spend too much time there...
Goint to warp within a solar system is dangerous, but a quck jaunt to pluto and back to test the slower engines shouldnt be a problem
"He may not be smart or even right, but he makes it difficult to hear anybody else."
i think google may have something to say about that.
So when are you going to b ready for the first test
Don't you have to get up to 88 miles an hour or something?
Assumint it takes me a 2-3 years to do 2 or 3 degrees in physics, then probably another 5 to come up with the concept.
then small scale trials might take another 5 -10, probably a year or 3 to finalise the design and maybe 3-4 to manufacture the engine.
The ship will probably be built thoughout the process but i imagine it should be ready 1-2 years after the engine design is finalised. Another year for tests then we are readdy to go...
A return trip to Pluto at that speed could take a while
:-)
You're gonna wanna read the bit about antimatter.
Thanks for the Digest Mr C. It makes me walk slower to work.
As long as that lot at cern dont destroy us all I should be able to solve that little riddle quite quickly
Did you read the theory that the Higgs particle is stopping the LHC from working to prevent it being detected. Or something like that.
I think there's a Button particle that travels back in time to screw up Rubens' starts and Vettel's engines.
I just think that activating a massive magnettic field on top of a planet which consists of mostly liquid magma which moves acording to the earths naturalpolarity is a little mad.
Not supprisingly the first time they activated it there was a large eartquake on the other side of the world.
I recently read they had super cooled it again and were ready to begin work and there was a string of other earth quakes.
It isnt impossible it was a coincidence, but it doesnt seem to be a great idea,
:-D
I didn't realise this!
They suggested a Higgs boson from the future is sabotaging it to stop its discovery and the implications of that.
the day it was activated http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7608267.stm
That's it. The reassuring thing about the LHC is that if they do cause the end of the world, we won't know anything about it.
The following day http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Large_earthquakes_reported_in_Indonesia_and_Japan
According to this: http://www.ceri.memphis.edu/aware/follies.html earthquakes of that magnitued happen about 120 times/year. So pick a day, and there's a 1 in 3 chance :)
The same thing applies to most things that end the world quickly apart from space rocks which we can see coming at us
Its possible, but these quakes didnt occur where the majority of that size would, deep in subduction zones, they were close to the surface.
I am not saying there is any proof, but i dont think we should be worrying about a theoretical black hole when this should be looked at
if we are looking.......
I doubt the magnetic field is remotely strong enough to move an earthquake an inch let alone trigger one.
I'm finally back from the virgin media 'speed week' ie circus at bluewater with JB.
Croftie is a t1t at times, who the chuff is 'Sebastian Grosjean' ? I'm sure I have that on the video I filmed on my phone. The outdoor racing thing was only really for Virgin media 'guests' the real public, us, were so far away it was just like being at a real gp. Bit of a waste of time really.
The indoor interview was good though, 'Jenson, you grew up in Frome'.. what was that like ? Uhm, yeah Frome is an interesting place.. !'
Hehe.
I got some good pics, but it was madness when he did the autographs in front of me. plus we had a security guard who was right up his backside, full of himself. I'll post 'em on flickr or on drop.io or summat.
All in all, not bad, got the closest you could get to an F1 driver without being bezzie mates with Bernard of the Ecclestone. Bit of a coup for Virgin really, he only got back to the uk this morning !
We will know about a rock before it hits us. We are unlikely however to know about it early enough for Bruce to get his drills ready so we can stop it.
The magma flows though according to both the moon and the natural polarity of the earth, It seems carzy to me to put a huge magnetic field down and not worry about it
Oh dear! dont let mrc c hear you say that!
Did you film any of the Q&A?
Though, I could live with that name.
ah at least you got some good pics :) my pics are rubbish... :(
Just because they arent amazing doesnt mean they are rubbish!
OOPS!
Did you hear what that security guard bloke said to the crowd ? 'There's no plans for Jenson to do any signing, but if he does, If at any time I think it's getting silly, his personal protection officer and I will pull it straight away, ok ? So don't go pushing and shoving else we'll just pull it straight away, ok ?'
I'm surprised he didn't have body armour and a radio "Breaker breaker 10-4" etc etc.. what a tool he was, full of himself !
Lol, He didn't look like I expected, much bigger than I thought, no one except me and a few others cheered when he asked who listened to the radio 5 live commentary hehe.
Yes, I filmed pretty much all of it apart from one minute or so when I was on the Canon ! :-) I'll try get it up asap. Probably go on face ache first so look me up on there and i'll add ya.
Can I put quicktime movies on drop.io ?
no they really are rubbish.... all blurry and everything :( i have maybe 2 or 3 non blurry ones... stupid guy with a huge lens who kept pushing me :(
SG, yeah, I like him more now.
Gonna head off, night all.
Should've stole his lens ;)
Oh dear, hope they arent too bad, maybe you need to make one of these ;) http://lifehacker.com/5383615/diy-tennis-ball-photography-stabilization-unit
oh i thought you menat me calling MrC mrc c ;)
Night mr grosjean!
You need elbow pads with spikes
Night RG
i was sooo tempted! it was a huge lens! i had massive massive lens envy... it was a canon though... so no good to me atm.
one thing it has made me realise... i want to be an f1 photographer more than anything... i saw some of the professionals running around with their huge lenses and monopods at the track part, and then the same photographers at the interview and i was just so jealous of them.
i was kinda near the front... it was the guy behind who kept jogging me off balance that got me :(
That's what high heels are for
evening all
you do have serious lens envy ;)
I has 3 triple chocolate muffins sitting in my room and the packet says there best before date is today....and theres only 32 minutes left of the day....
Dilema....
but high heels aren't practical for standing around waiting for Jenson Button for a whole hour... ;)
i really really do... :(
Practice makes perfect :P
Anyone with a DSLR has lens envy. I know I do.
Eat them
I'm currently packing for a 3 day art trip (2 nights) to cambridge, and we've been told to pack light so it's easier to carry around london and on the tube... i'm finding this difficult.... so i take my larger lens? i was thinking yes, because i love it... but then it's not exactly packing light...
I won't sleep then!! oh well...
3 triple chocolate muffins standing on my shelf 3 triple chocolate muffins, standing on my shelf and if one triple chocolate muffin accidently falls into my hands as im doing an unwrapping motion followed by an eating motion.......there'll be 2 triple chocolate muffins, standing on my shelf.....
Was he an older guy with a big canon and a flash unt with a plastic diffuser on top ? As we faced the stage thingy, Jenson sat on the left first of all, pretty much in front of me, where were you ?
You need some cash behind ya to purchase the equipment, many of them use an EOS 1d mk III, about 4-5k for body, then a 600 mm L series lens is probably the thick end of ten k.
Notice how some of them have two or three cameras on them ? That's so they can keep a shorter range lens on another body so it saves swapping from one to the other, in case the moment passes. Must be a cool job to travel the world photographing motorsport ! :-)
A good place to look is the front of F1 racing that has 3 or 4 pics and is shows the body, lens, shutter speed and f stop the snapper used. Gives you good insight into what they are doing, I find :-) Good luck !
you get to go to cambridge for 3 days on an art trip?!!? i totally did the wrong a-levels.
we got to go to cambridge for a maths lecture!
I wont tell you where my 2 a-level trips took me then :P
hmmm ;)
Take it! If you need mobility, lots of smaller bags are better than one big one ;)
i was upstairs... cause mum said i'd get a better view up there, we did have an argument about it but in the end i gave in... i was facing them on the left at the top...
hehehe i know, everything is always so expensive. i'm hoping after Abu Dhabi Lorrenzo Ballenca will email me back and give me that advice/ help/ contacts he promised :D
Actually i lie, i had 4... the 2 i forgot were to cardiff bay, and one to a maths lecture in london
I hope you went to Techniquest when in cardiff bay
it's a 3 day intensive art trip... lots of drawing, which i'm not keen on.. am going for the photography aspect, cause having a sketchbook like that will only help with uni stuff. When i asked the head of art if i could base my sketchbook on photography rather than necessarily art based she looked at me and said 'are you afraid of drawing!!' - i was stunned.. i'm not a great drawer but is it so much to ask to do a sketchbook on something you love and will hopefully study at uni?... :s
Depends what you'll be snapping really ! Cambridge is beautiful, the bodleian (sp?) library is amazing.
I went on a work course there for a few nights in summer 07, we stayed in a hall, that was used in harry potter for the dining halls scenes, amazing buildings ! Back to lenses.. I have an 18-200mm Sigma and a 50mm Canon prime, does me for most stuff.
Im afraid not... i think it was just harry ramsdens and then we went to look at redevelopment which i got in trouble for not being that impressed with!
is it a bad time to mention my school is trying to make me go on the china trip they are arranging for June but i don't want to go?
Awesome, and agreed ;)
Techniquest is just awesome though. It speaks volumes to my childish side :P
i do think its a bit silly that in this day and age they dont fully recognise that art is more than drawing. even if you cant do it for this bit, just take lots of pictures anyway because they're bound to come in handy in the future, and because most of SPC is addicted to your flickr
Is BAssano around? BASSANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask them to arrange it for around the time of the race? :P
do you have to pay for it? and does it cost about £1500?
yes and yes...
we had that too :P
Ah, you were over my left shoulder then. Did you spot the big guy in the wheelchair just left of centre in front of the barriers? I was directly behind him, until he left then I moved forward even more :-)
That is further than i went! But wont you have exams then?
That would be a great experience, you should go if you can afford it!
China is a very difficult place to visit independently.
hahah :D i asked them if they could do that for the Singapore trip but they looked at me and were like... 'you may get to go to singapore and the only think you are worrying about is a race!'
am sad the trip isn't going ahead now :(
Why not? That would be a great experience for you
He wasn't answering his headping last night
and thats a bad thing whyyy? ;)
i just have no urge to go... plus money... i'd rather my parents spent the money on a goodwood ticket for me than china... plus i am going to spa.. and then there is uni.. i'd like a mac book for uni. i have to pick my battles...:D
I was just wondering if the BA plane is sau paulo really was broked
i know! that was my response. they didn't understand though.
he's forwarding it to me.
Do you know about the plane? :P
yay. glad you had a fine time.
You can do that?
?
Oh my god, go go ! The country is amazing !
Just don't go to the gp, as the track is boring and the viewing isn't much better. Oh and the food is really pricey !
Daniel was wondering if the drop supports quicktime?
yup.
It was
Hello peeps
aha. just doing a comment catchup :)
awesome!
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/10/loeb-will-not-make-f1-debut-in-abu-dhabi/
No Loeb in Abu Dhabi because he doesnt have a superlicense.
He looked pretty competent when I saw him... But i guess the rules are there for a reason
Incredible timing and just 24 hours late
Was it TBJ's fault :P
That is ridiculous.
Last night's wasn't getting through at all
Today's was fine, I've not long got in
why?
Of course not, we do The Best Jumbos
5 world titles and 2 tests without looking dangerous would point to a guy who knew what he was doing.
It looks silly when grosjean and algusauri get given them but not him in my opinion
Was it an airbus then? if it had a RR engine i can pass the blame on to somone else ;)
I speak from experience when I tell you that rallying and circuit racing are different. You very rarely are in traffic on a special stage.
from a car experience pov i would agree, but not from an F1 car pov, he hasnt tested in a while.
whilst these guys have been driving single seaters all their life, the jump up is alot less for them
No, we don't have any longhaul Airbuses & all our 'Seven Fours' are Rollers
exactly, he may be as fast as Hamilton around 1 lap, but he's never raced
Hello. The wanderer returns :)
True
How was workies?
I hope you werent wandering about wearing cans, you would have looked a right twit ;)
The rule has always been that drivers with an international A licence in on discipline automatically get an A licence in another. So for example if an F1 driver enters a rally he gets seeded as any other top driver. Loeb has done enough testing for it to be clear that he can drive the car so there is no reason he could not have been given a superlicence on the same basis Kimi got his.
:D
Hey ya
Been a busy weekend and start of week
Hard, but that was hours ago
Have been at a friend's for dinner
Did you manage to find an man with an orange drill to fix your boiler?
Loeb hasn't raced for a very long time, and not driving a 180mph single seater.
Kimi did a year of testing
Ear duffs?
Err, no
So it was your fault!
Yup. I have tomorrow completely off though. It's gonna be heaven. I just have a normalish end of week to work after that. I'll survive!
My boiler's not broken.
Am I missing something here or are you all talking to someone else? ;)
Ah, i thought she was calling herself the wanderer!
Me too!!
She? SHE?
No, I do 777's
And to my knowledge, the aircraft that went sick didn't visit us recently
I was :(
I think Stevens point is that the super licence shouldn't be the impedement
What should be then?
Lets give him a super licence but not let him race?
hehe, well i havent come up with a could nickname yet!
Your name has to many letters! :P
I meant on a provisional basis. It also seems ridiculous that him racing has been discussed for months then days before the event we find out he doesn't have a licence
could? good!
Alison's boiler was broken last night but there was no-one with an orange drill to fix it
yes. Common sense should be the reason. I guess it could all turn into tricky legal issues if someone really wanted him in the car. Perhaps this is just the easiest public reason to give out
She wouldnt have let him in anyway!
Ahhhh. Thanks
Is it fixed now? Drills & Boilers aren't a good mix unless it just needs fixing to the wall
It sounds like they have changed the rules if he doesn't qualify for the licence
It's still broken :( I have a very helpful man coming to fix it tomorrow. I hope he has an orange drill or it'll be a wasted trip.
Well, I am a bad influence after all. Who could blame her?
apparenly he would have to appeal
she wouldnt let anyone in, or look out of windows, because of the very real possibility somone could be stood out their waiting and looking back!
It's only common sense.....
The Chewbacca defense - it just doesn't make sesne! (to let him race)
Question: My mic and mixer inputs both have 3 pin trianglular positioned male/female sockets....if i bought a new lead, are they all teh same?
Well, it's no wonder it wasn't working last night! :D
I'm heading off for the night. Glad you guys liked my vid earlier :) night!
yup. the better ones have slightly longer ground pins, so that the ground connects first and avoids noise spikes... i think.
g'night.
Night Lukeh
G'night Lukeh
If it's on the drop I'll check it out tomorrow
o...k....
aslong as they fit each other thats fine. i want a longer lead, mines only a metre long!
yeah, you should be fine with any 3-pin xlr lead.
awesome! thanks
Night!
Andy it was only a joke really ;)
