Naturally, we are still recovering from the events of yesterday, not only a massive championship-deciding race, but also hosting the debrief into the late hours. Still, that doesn't take any shine off what was another awesome weekend in F1.
- Barrichello has proved what a nice guy he is once again by lending Button his private jet so he can fly back to Britain in his own time - allowing the new champ time to party in Brazil, like it's 1999 presumably.
- We're still wondering about the FIA and their penalty decisions - but only really that they keep pushing the rulings until after the race. It seems like a growing trend to put off the investigations until post-GP, and I don't think I like it.
- The headline on this story makes me laugh: Alonso says DNF cost him points finish. You don't say! There were quite a lot of retirements in Brazil, but the one I feel sorry for is Heidfeld. Running out of fuel is embarrassing!
Anyway, that'll do it for now. As ever, let us know what you're doing with your week, whether you're celebrating or commiserating. I'll see you in the comments.
Ah, I put the backslash in the wrong place.
I hope the new site has the ability to quote the original post via clicking instead of typing 'blockquote'. :-)
i've just had a thought... in Abu Dhabi do Brawn GP get the large garage? or do i have to wait till next year? :)
Just watching the end of the race back... Lewis came over to congratulate Jenson,a n in his excitement Jenson ran away and didnt even shake hands!
Next year
This must be the lowest points score for a world champ in a while.....
Just shows how competitive the season has been
I think they will all be put back to the same size next year at most places with a bigger grid?
:D okay i can cope with that :D
another question, do you think Brawn or any other team may use Abu Dhabi as a chance to test out a few of next years aero developments? i'm sensing i know the answer to this question anyway...
oh, okay well they'll be at the winners end of the pitlane then :D
How excited is Lou then?
can't you tell from my constant questions? and general hyperness... i'll never get to sleep at this rate..
:D
Mclaren are now 1 point ahead of ferrari going into the last race...
that could provide some competition for Yas
Yep, probably the only significant competition
I have a questions - did we find out what caused the Kovi thing in the pits?
2 points between Vettel and rubens in the drivers too
Right. I didn't see that.
Reports during the race pointed to a precocious lolipop man.
i think... my feed reader kinda exploded...
Ah right. Thanks. Will have to re-watch the race tonight.
just had this tweet: http://twitter.com/dylanpt24/
"Hey, is the sidepodcast Batracer game ever going to happen?"
i know nothing, anyone else?
with happiness?
*puts on Manuel voice from Faulty Towers* 'I know noooothing'
okay i'm waaay to hyper..
with many amazing feeds saying something i've known for ages 'Jenson is amazing'
:D
you should totally come to bluewater btw :P it would be great! i need someone tall to take pics of Jenson if i get crushed by the crowd..
hehe. will let ya know tomorrow.
i will remind you and remind you :D
It should be a great day ! Just hope I get there early enough to get a good spot :-)
You should get priority as a long time fan.
am hoping he wont be there before like 2pm cause that's probably the earliest i can get up there.
It might be as good as alonso in spain ;)
only closer, cheaper, and with Croftie! and a crazy Lou... although don't let the last bit put you off...
is it wrong that i'm more tempted because croftie is there?
oooo. Man crush
Do you have a "I supported him before all you lot" tshirt?
HA!
hehe nope, i was hoping he'd help persuade you to come :P all i need is to get ted there too.... :P
no... but now i want one.
Looks like bt cut me off a day early! Hub detects line but adsl signal gone, aah dontcha love bt :) Think i'll call it a night, see you tuesday when i should be up and running!
oh and Jules may be there too. and maybe Jessica...
should be fun :)
I am tempted to go, its about an hours drive....
night Pat :)
and Mr C needs a "I'm here for Croftie" tshirt.
Night, hope you survive tomorrow... its hard to be cut off!
Enjoy the jenson event, those going.
Did Jenson get that private jet so he could come back and see Lou (and her groupies)?
Jules ? Techgeek and I are gonna go up, swap numbers then we can all meet up and form a sidepodcast force field to deter screaming girlies :-)
hahaha :D
with a big homemade "Go Croftie!" flag!
hehehe :D
LOL. I would love to see that.
Jules is Jenson's PA :) you'll see me from a far ;) i'll be the one with a camera attached to her face and very much speechless :)
Silent screaming?
Who asked the questions in the press conference, wasnt james and didnt sound much like peter windsor?
if goodwood is anything to go by i'll be frozen with joy :)
anyways... it's nearly 1am, i've given up with doing anymore work, it's just not going to get done, i'll blame Jenson or something.. :P i have frees tomorrow so i'll do it then.
night everyone! what an incredible day!!!! xxx
might have been windsor...
Night!
Night folks, even though i'm still here :-)
It was definitely Peter Windsor
Yeah the first question sounded a bit different, guess James skipped that race too
Or he might have had a tight deadline, Joe mentioned on his blog that a lot of the european journalists missed his press conference because of their time constraints
it was windsor after qually as well.
I am going to bed at a reasonable time for once. Good night all.
night sir.
Night Steven
hmmm I wonder if it will be james next year or could we hear a new voice emerge?
*imagines EJ doing it*
From sky news JYS: Ross is the best at what he does in the world
agreed.
That's hard to argue, he has the runs on the board. His teams do not seem to make many mistakes do they?
A bit of a rhyme on the GP+ cover this week http://www.grandprixplus.com/
if you haven't already, don't forget to add your thoughts on jenson's championship here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/10/18/jenson-button-2009-f1-world-champion/
i approve.
replay video now up here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/10/18/live-paid-my-dues-time-after-time/
Cooooool. I can watch the race again tonight, and then pretend the debrief is on. :D
Just like being there.
hehe. on that note, it must be time to sleep. thank you everybody for a brilliant weekend.
I can't help thinking this year's world championships are all about last year.
I'll see if I can gather my thoughts and put them on the breakout thread.
I wish I had been around for more of it.
Night!
Thank you, the weekend has been amazing, but this site and the community has made it even better!
Morning, everyone. Thanks for uploading the Ross interview, Lukeh. :D
Morning J Think im about to head to bed im afraid!
Before i do some things i found: Verizon taking on the iphone slightly aggressivly
Pic of ted from ed gormans blog if it hasn't been posted
Sure, go ahead. I have some video-hunting to do anyhows - while listening to last night's replay.
I really am going to bed now, but not before I post this link to the Brawn BBC season highlight thingy with Embrace 'Ashes'.
http://bit.ly/1NV922
Edit: The link is being a bit gay and not working, so you'll just have to ctrl + c i'm afraid :-)
Button tried to repeat the the 2006 Hungaroring eyes, got close :-)
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1320718
Good morning, everyone. :)
Morning Journeyer!
Alex! You had champagne ready for Jenson?
I have Champagne every time the drivers world championship is decided and toast the world champion. A nice tradition I think. I have never filmed it before. And normally I don't let the cork go wizzing off like that. I was thinking of shaking it up but Katherine wouldn't let me!
Ooh, fancy. :D
Here's me last year explaining my situation:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/02/live-speechless-gonna-be-a-short-show/#comment-142262
Morning! gah! I need to go back to bed!
These rules!
good morning. and now time for lunch :-) everything is delayed after late F1 night :-)
I see GP+ is ready... I had no idea joe was so involved with Jenson getting a drive!
The man seems to be secretly as powerfull as bernie!
Morning - same here!
Just watching the live show replay. Shame I couldn't stick around for it.
I would just like to say... That wallpaper is MEGA!
Fortunately i think i will have the opportunity to do so... this is not my hour!
I found this... Old Norbert doesnt seem to miss a thing! pretty spooky!
Norbert Haug: So here are some unusual statistics to enjoy: for the second year in a row, car number 22, driven by an Englishman and powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine has finished fifth in Brazil to win the world championship - what an amazing list of coincidences!
Conspiracy!
I really dislike that word ... the 'old' F1 Racing used to use it in ever sentence, it seems!
was Maurice Hamilton there then?
Can't remember sorry!
Hello everyone,
Sorry I miss the debrief, but I figure that I would comment for a few minutes before I head to bed. Has everyone gotten over their Button hangover?
Oh, I brewed a batch of English Bitter Ale today, I am think about naming it
Button Bitter but Ultimately Satisfying English Ale.
Some people have been saying that Toyota releasing Trulli and Glock at the same time means that they might not be in the sport next year. However it's important to remember that Toyota have a nuts driver policy which cannot be violated. I think they wanted Kobaiashi in the car as Nakajima won't be racing next year. Toyota's driver plan is that they must have 1 experienced race winning driver and one rookie. So while they want to replace Trulli, they are being forced into replacing Glock by their own silly rule.
I don't get Toyota. If I were them, I would go with a Glock / Kobaiashi line-up.
I think they would be stupid to get rid of Glock, but if they do... the one name that is hanging out there is Heidfeld. I don't think he is sticking with Quadback (sp)
Does Heikki fit that, he has some experience now, he has won a race more by luck than skill #sorryamy I cant see how kimi is a real option unless Mclaren turn him down, so who on the market is left?
I made it through the day like I hadn't been awake for 2.5 hours in the middle of the night, hooray!
And the weather is beautiful.
I have remembered why I came over here in the first place :D
F1tennissunshine!It is barely light and freezing cold here... i might need to head your way!
Button is on 7 of the ten biggest papers front pages this morning.
I hear ya, the rainy season just started around here.
I do have my former college roommate in Melbourne that I need to go visit.
I didn't look at any of our papers today, I wonder if they went with Jenson or Mark for the sports front page :D
It is so good to see F1 in the news for the right reasons again!
I'm just listening to the chequered flag podcast. It's really good today!
If Rich is around, I took a photo of the Britten like he wanted. I felt super sneaky because I was breaking the 'no photos' rule.
The other rule on the sign said 'please only touch with your eyes' which sounds dangerous to me, theres lots of pokey out bits on a bike :D
that is interesting coincidence
Still in the same place then?
Amy, when did you go to Te Papa?
when I had 5 hours to kill in Wellington on Tuesday :D
Ah OK - my dad went on Friday, you see. He apparently flouted the no cameras rule using a trick from 'Ronin' - he pretended to show Mum pics of the bits he could take when he was actually taking pics of the forbidden bit!
heh very nice. The security guard was pretty lax in the F1 exhibit he said 'you can only take photos of the cars, but I don't know why' and then proceeded to turn a blind eye to everyone taking photos of everything else.
Did your dad get a $10 down from $43 childs Heikki hat too? ;)
Same guy that spoke to Dad then...
If I had known about the merchandise, I would have asked...
for some reason the actual merchandise at the exhibit was rubbish but then at the kids Te Papa shop on another floor they had heaps of stuff. As well as my kids hat my brother got a really good book of Motorsport photography for $15 when the RRP was around $50
Morning all. Good news! I found my coat.
Morning.
Where was it? Somewhere random or obvious?
It was a bit random, although I remember thinking at the time that I would be much more likely to find it there. D'oh!
On a tagnet, I love the phrase "That's the last place I would have looked for it" - implying that someone would continue looking for it after they found it? Crazyness!
It's ALWAYS in the last place you look :)
It's sort of a tautology, isn't it?
What a stupid statement - "Sort of always true"? That's like saying "Black is sort of not white" - Languauge Fail :(
there are happy birthday Heikki messages on Twitter
A man just came round testing the fire alarms. He sprayed it with something then wafted a piece of paper at it. I don't feel very reassured!
Does he have fire ina can?
Did you take a picture of you and the egg?
They did that the other week here - apparently it's a substance that changes the density of the air or something...
Oooh, how cool would that be??
Actually it would be quite hot.
Woohoo!
Morning!! am back in wycombe after a 2 1/4 hour train journey. funnnn
not sure how long will it take Bernie to take the videos down, but here is SUT vs TRU and RAI vs FIRE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZctGzvuZkDQ
And beaten a Brazilian in the process.
On a Sunday in October too! Wow!
I believe it was actually November - soz ;)
CONSPIRACY!
Oh my gosh. I have just finished watching the race. I'm really sorry I missed watching it with you guys. I thought it was very exciting :)
I thought Kovalainen was of particular amusement. I can't believe he set Kimi on fire!!
He seems to be so much less damaging to his mechanics than others who have taken their fuel hose with them :)
Hullo :)
Morning Lukeh!
How is everyone this morning?
I am pretty sleepy! How are you?
Cosworth for Williams next year Autosport reports
It's a monday morning, its allowed ;)
I'm pretty good thanks, although most of our lecture about databases was about supermarkets which reminded me of work... silly uni. Boo to you database thingy.
I'm very cheery. I've decided not to go to work this morning :P so that's awesome!
Extended weekend ftw!
I didn't have the weekend off but erm yeah :P
I think I'll finish my project tonight. I've got tomorrow off then I've got my replacements starting on Wednesday so that should spread the workload a bit. I'm looking forward to training them up and getting out of there.
I've just been given my C++ artificial assignment project brieifing now funnily enough as you mention projects.
That sound you just heard is my mind screaming in fear. Eek.
Booooo! Projects suck!!
*blames EJ*
damnit, i missed morning.
#blamespc
Only by a minute though.
morning is overrated :P
Good afternoon :P
we have snow - but only a little bit #blamesglobalwarming
Have updated the Title Suggestions page on the wiki, to bring it all into the same page and make it a bit more accessible.
Scanning through it, my god we say some ridiculous stuff!
My favourite potential title of all time, though, is: “We do a show about F1 and we know nothing.”
Fact!
Ridiculous but awesome :D
You know pandas - right?
said in the voice of that guy in that show... you know the one... Hogans Heroes!
Afternoon everyone... I am hoping for a MEGA afternoon.
#sorrygavin
I hope that whatever MEGA things you have going are totally MEGA and that your afternoon is just MEGA.
Yours MEGA-ly
MEGA Goat
MEGAblastic response Gavin :)
I'm just trying to help Christine bring MEGA back :)
It would be much better if they called themselves Campos MEGA.
Very MEGA point Christine!
PS. If you keep Pandas in bags I'm not sure you'll get the German airport people to let you have the one I got stuck there. I'm afraid.
Heart Lou saying I'm on top of the moon and I'm over the ahhh!
#MFC (Maybe?) Here is a link to a graph of fastest download speed offered vs. monthly costs for world wide ISP's - from BOL 1086...
I am on TDC which I think is referred to as "Dansk Bredbånd!" - It's very fast (Not Finnish) but in terms of price, bit misleading to call it expensive as although the cost of living is higher here, so are the wages.
My old ISP (Telecom NZ) was heaps slower and although it is supposedly cheap, it felt more expensive compared to how much I earned...
Anybody care to tell me who they are with? (Kathi especially...)
I know. I sort of failed in my capacity as a panda keeper right then and there.
I think you could claim that it depends on what kind of Panda it is!
My internet comes out of a socket in the wall.
You may know about this... But something rather random seems to have happened with the Jenson Button post... Even if you go for a 404 page... http://www.sidepodcast.com/fds it still appears. Random!?!?
"I'm the 404 page, baby!"
No wonder it shows up on the top of every page that shows posts. Note that this dummy post is unable to show the number of comments.
This might be a work in progress as the homepage is updated.
Can't get nothing past you lot, can we?
Nope... the problem is that I can't type... Or spell "playground" apparently ;)
I like buzz kill Bernie: "Well, he's not world champion until the end of November when the FIA announce it. He's got enough points, if everything else is alright, to be world champion and he deserves it too. He did a good job."
Really great quote!
this one to be precise.
He really support abu dhabi doesn't he...
:)
Did people see this quote:
From here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8312844.stm
I was honestly pretty shocked when I saw that. But, yeah, there ya go.
short term thing. basically we looked at the site last night, and the most prominent feature was christine sitting in front of some rather bright walllpaper.
it didn't exactly scream "jenson wins championship".
in the past we could've forward-dated the post to make it sit at the top (homepage is simply a list of date-ordered posts). but the daily post has actually screwed that plan, because wordpress builds the url path from the published date, and it would've had to have changed in order to "jump" the daily and sit at the top.
amazingly we didn't realise that until yesterday, almost a year after the daily was introduced, so i guess we haven't had to bump a post in a while.
anyhow. long story short is wordpress sucks, so i copied some html into the main template for the day, in order that i might get some sleep.
:D
there's a shortcut on the homepage.
I noticed that problem with one of my blog posts - I wanted to change the date, but then the date in the address would be wrong - and if I changed that I wold have to go to the many places where I plug my blog and re-post the link. Not worth the effort!
Was Lewis sober when he said that? Or was he talking about karting?
Perhaps he just wants to be popular again?
All you needed to say ;)
Aha!
ahh. something to consider then for the new homepage.
Replace Jenson with Ayrton...
It sounds to me something he would say if he was asked about when he first knew of Jenson which would have been when he was starting karting and Jenson was one of the very best guys in the sport. I can't imagine he is talking about Jenson in F1.
considered and solved. more on that soon.
you have no idea how frustrating it is having had to move at such an inconvenient time. it's like the world doesn't want us to have a new homepage :)
*shakes fist at the world*
That'll show them
thankinya ;)
Will the new homepage be MEGA?
Good work there :)
It was quite MEGA if i may say so myself
am thinking that ought to be one of the random taglines!
The new homepage will be über-MEGA.
MEGA-MEGA?
Campos MEGA
I love that phrase. I am going to start using über-MEGA
Probably more Campos Meh
I also quite like Sidepodcast - All you needed to say
hehe. gets my vote.
I have an urge to play a Megadrive now
We have the wonderful product "Websense" here which makes sure that you don't look at anything naughty. For reasons best known to itself it has decided that a) twitters css page - but not the site itself should be block d and b) Sidepodcast wiki's css page - but not the site itself should be blocked.
To say the sites are a bit hard to navigate with no CSS is quite an understatement!
I brought some chocolates back from Paris:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-315
Three are 4 left after the gannets in my office have been at them. Let me know which one you want :)
I want the red one!! If it has no nuts in...
Fine Milk chocolate with a smooth melting center apparently. So you're good.
Mmmmm, Lindt.
Better go quick Christine... I'd guess the white chocolate for you?
Fine white chocolate, praline with hazelnut pieces.
Go on then :)
good afternoon all... I hear Button is still world champion!
I see not only are williams going with cosworth, but that they have been allowed to retune the engine too http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79615
"The tweaks could help ensure Cosworth's engine is competitive throughout 2010"
yup. won't make them reliable though.
Ooh snow....
no more snow :(
snow gone
Or nececarily fuel efficient either... Looks like williams are in rough shape financially, with all the new teams I cant help but think they may have been better to stick it out with the toys
Booo...
While people have been faffing the blue one has gone here in the office...
Only the square dark one is left now...
I should be able to post the chocs off later... I have my addresses...
Lukeh
Wales
Christine
c/o Her Mother in Laws
You might need to courier them, though. Royal Mail are a bit of an unmentionable round here :)
I'll be waving on top of snowdon. I'm sure you'll see me, unless you go to the beach you was at before and I'll be just across the water!
Also I think I finally understand google reader's awesomeness.
YAY!
I would use courier but I think Mr C restricts us to Ariel ;)
It took quite a lot of Font to Type that joke ;)
Oh dear.
It's bad when even you know it's bad. ;)
It's amazing how much easier it's been to keep up with news actually. Usually I'd be coming home and scouraging through hundreds of stuff, giving up quickly and it's just a single login away.
So yeah... It;s definitely impressed me with the whole portability of it. :D
I know! Terrible!
Now we just need to work on Mr C ;)
am fine with my desktop reader thankinyamuchly.
for lukeh - just doing some vanity searching on itunes, and saw this review title:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/brawnsomeness-png
i like that it's catching on.
Excellent! :D
And we have a winner...
A college just asked me... Could you have a look at this on my computer, something seems to have gone wrong... Have you tried calling the helpdesk I ask hopefully? But... Please Alex... Alright. I am so glad I went and looked.
Him: Somebody has e-mailed me a pdf but when I click on it, it doesn't work.
Me: Right
Him: Yeah it's quite weird because the email is in a pdf, but the pdf isn't in the e-mail.
I'm thinking: What?
I get there. The person who has sent the e-mail has:
1) Created a pdf document
2) Attached it to an e-mail
3) Printed the e-mail to pdf
4) Sent to my colleague the pdf of the e-mail, that just has an icon of the pdf as a picture in it now.
Whoops.
*untangles mind*
How on earth?!
I don't know... But my colleague kept double clicking on the picture of the pdf icon and it didn't matter how many times he did it. It still didn't open - unsurprisingly.
Awww.. :P
I had to say to him that I think he better ask for it again... But slightly different.
must've been a windup, right?
I find his picture very telling http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1320755
Its the only shot of the brawn senior management on their own with the drivers i have seen
I am afraid not :(
Technically Norbert isn't yet part of the senior management!
For Lou:
http://www.henrilloydstore.com/microsite/category.asp?cat_id=312
Brawn Champions merch up now.
exactly, he was conspicuous by his presence!
And... it's pretty disappointing, I think. It's mostly the same merch with an additional Champions logo.
The polo shirt is still tempting, though. :D
Not yet at least...
Button... he party's hard: http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLJ05450320091019
Its Rrrrrealy Rrrrrrrrrrrrrubish!
Well, to be fair to Jenson, he has to rush off to the UK in the morning. :D
Deja-vu moment for me just now...
i bet he was sat in his room re watching the race and reading every newspaper report he could find!
:D Article says he called Jessy, then his mom.
Jenson, always one for the ladies in his life. ;)
Another reason why we should have the season end in Brazil versus Abu Dubai... the people in Brazil know how to party and you can actually get a drink.
Does anyone have a link to Jake's interview with Jenson in the Brawn garage?
Huh?
Thats about as silly as saying they shouldnt have a gp in america because so many people there have guns and they are always shooting each other.
I think you misconstrued what I said. I don't deny them the right to hold a GP or the constitution of the people in the UAE to ban drink, all I am saying is that if I wanted to win the championship, I would want to win it in Brazil because I get the feeling it would more fun in a way. Just like I rather go a race in Montreal vs. going to a race in Indy because the crowd is better.
So if they were going to start an advertising campaign, would the tagline be:
Cosworth: The FIA's choice.
But you can drink in the UAE! (6 of the 7 emirates) And the whole point of that article was that he didnt go out and party, he just went to his hotel room.
\to be fair i think you are right, abu dhabi isnt exactly known as party city like Dubai is. But I expect they will have all the events companies from Dubai up there who are defiantly some of the best in the world
Sorry, my mistake. I always forget which emirates you can and can't do that sort of thing in the middle. I thought that Abu Dubai was in one of areas which you couldn't. Lack of due diligence on my part. Sorry about that.
Regarding Button, I get the feeling that the title was more of a relief then a celebration for him.
Qatar is the really strict one...
lewis did something similar. one drink all night.
f1 drivers need to learn how to celebrate.
We need James Hunt's spirit to come back, maybe Kimi needs to take these guys out on the town and show them how it is done?
i don't remember how he celebrated in brazil. anyone else?
Hello, hello.
Hows the world?
i'm over it.
;)
I can't remember but based on his reputation and a gorilla suit, I imagine he had a good time.
Actually in the bigger picture, is Kimi the only one left in the paddock who allegedly still knows how to party? I hate to say it but the grid might be just a bunch of dullards at the moment.
Maybe Vettel and Webber, but that just goes with the reputation of Red Bull.
Evening everyone! How are you all?
I'm a damn sight more sober than last night, and the wine-fuelled voicemail I left for the SPC crew :D
Mondays as a whole suck, but today was a good day!
No worries. It is a bit of a pet peve of mine, people seem to think that the UAE is saudi arabia, when in reality it is nothing like it.
All of the Gulf states generaly allow alcohol for visitors, the notable exception being sharjah in the UAE (although there is one bar there in a rugby club) and Kuwait. Although there are often complex rules and need for permits in the other places you can buy alcohol.
Qatar is not too strict, alcohol is legal, however you do need a liquor licence, and they keep saying bars will be for tourists and members only but it never happens
I guess maybe he didnt want to over do it whilst still in season, perhaps a big blow out in monaco after the next race?
Hello everyone :D
Evening Lou. How are you feeling tonight?
I've enjoyed watching various F1 forums implode today :D And not one bit of much deserved gloating from me either!!!
i'm still very hyper i'm afraid. i've been in a super mood all day! i keep being given funny looks cause i can't stop smiling :)
Hehe, people suspecting you have been on the pimms and rose again? :D
Ah but therein lies the rub - only the posh expensive hotels get the liquor licence!
Also, you can't eat during the day during Ramadan (you have to eat in a private lunch room), the locals don't mix with the foreigners and petty little stuff like my mate who got his poker set confiscated...
More footage of cars going round at yas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI7OuCriyu8
Apparently the track wasnt cheap!
Good you for :D
Howdy all
I also got funny looks, but it may have had something to do with wearing this...
How does the guy in the back see anything?
Ramadan rule is same in dubai apart from in hotels, although it seems to be a lot more lax than it used to be.
Locals dont mix with most foreiners in most places in that region, you have to make an effort, but its worth it once you do.
Gambling is illegal so its not that suprisng they confiscate the equipment!
I have always wondered that when i see those 2 seaters!
Still though, that's quite strict I reckon!
Looks like a very nice track. Not sure why, but reminds me of Paul Ricard?
Cause of all the permutations and tarmac runoffs?
that's gotta be embedded, cheers nick:
Go to saudi! Thats crazy in comparison.
One thing that struck me whewn i used to visit the UK when i was younger is how paranoid everyone is here.
Over there we never used to lock doors or windows unless we were away for a while, even now you will frequently see cars parked outside a shops with keys in the ignition to keep the A/C running.
The rules might be stricter but in many ways it is more about common sense and respect. As long as you are aware of whats acceptable and what isnt its pretty easy to avoid any trouble
Possibly.
Little thing inside me is looking forward to this race.
Right, I need to dash. I have a days worth of stories to write and they won't do it themselves sadly.
Laters!
As i was going through London this morning i caught sight of many different papers and as expected....they all had cheesy Brawn related headlines.
Booo
At least F1 was in the news for the right reasons for once...
You raise a good point!
See ya Adie.
Second. It beats having Max, Flavio, or Bernie in the headlines.
More Yas.
These pictures were taken 500 days apart

I do like how little run off there is.
Thanks Amy for the photo, I am around now, but was not around over the weekend - I only got to see the last bit of the race. Really pleased for Jenson, but my dog has hardly stopped barking cos she has always been a Jenson fan with proof that she is/was on his website with a fan photo.
Back to the Britten - absolutely stunning. That is not the first sneaky photo I got today. My section of our Department is moving into a brand new custom designed offices in absolutely brand new and huge Life Science building come 1 December (theoretically). My section is the sixth (top floor) and even though it was essentially my design that I managed to persuade the architects to draw the plans around I have not been given permission to see the facility (our hierarchy). Essentially its a lab for research and instruction consisting of a total 90 workstations most of which are located in a large open office space with surrounding specialist offices at the edges. I happen to know the contractor doing the network cabling and he has sneaked some photos through. I am really excited since the architect did sneak me an artist impression in about Jan this year and it has passing resemblance unlike the outside. Our university is incredibly boring and staid so it is surprising it got built with such a radical design. No straight lines of computer work benches here and almost an industrial chic appearance.
It certainly looks impressive. It also certainly looks like a better set up then its' neighbor in Bahrain.
new paddock life.
I was quite impressed with YouTube video of Brunno driving around - but the pitlane (especially the exit) looks scary. I still have not taken in the cost - our new science building I am moving into cost $500 000 and its so gianormous that builders call it mothership.
heheeh i think so :)
erm...... why?....
can number do uppercase? i think that would help.
maybe just bold: $1,500,000,000
$500K would barely buy you a semi detached house over here!
To be honest i expect that includes the whole island, power, water, road infrustructure as well as dredging and constructing the marina... but still!
I know the USD is fall through the floor but that is very, very impressive number.
so the marina exists just for the f1 track?
So this F1 cost saving thing then...........
Bernie would say it is a team thing, not a track thing. ;)
hey everyone.
Here is what it buys, a building 300m long 150m width (at its widest) and six floors with a total office and lab space of 150 000 square meters.
No, it will be a proper marina, the berths at them sell for stupid prices in Dubai so I expect it will be the same there with a posh yacht club to go with it.
I expect they are trying to emulate Dubai marina where they have sold lots of apartments and nice hotels have sprung up. However in this case its an island so they dont need to build such a big marina to get waterfront views
WOW
hehehe :D i was a little be carried away... :) i've calmed down ever so slightly since then :)
teampblracing: Senior McLaren man Pat Fry seems pretty optimistic for Abu Dhabi. Lewis is the form man, he's outscored every driver in the last 7 races
Wasnt that Jenson at the end of last year?
I thought the Palms and World developments had economically speaking bottomed out. I am sure I read they had even stopped development of the world. So who is going to buy in Abu Dhabi - I thought it was the poorer sister to Dubai!
alonso, wasn't it?
ooh probably, i forgets things
That's 10x Doningtons!
Abu Dhabi has way more money than dubai. Dubai depends on foreign investment, Abu Dhabi doesn't need that, if anything it has more money than it knows how to get rid of it!
I will put some photos up on drop.io shortly. My section is the research labs for Remote Sensing, Web Map Applications and Biodiversity Information Management training for up to 72 people (hope we never have to accommodate that many people).
I have a hard time wrapping my head around a construction project that huge as the Palms and World projects are. It is absolutely mind blowing. Not to get Clarksonian but I wish we were still ambitious with our engineering like that.
...and then they met bernie.
:)
Found a CNN report on yas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmfNcdAo8eU
Not a lot of new footage, and the Emirati guy makes some very bold claims, but it has some nice shots of the north grandstand which he wants to be like circus maximus, but he is certainly very enthusiastic!
Ahhh, sad and depressing music, where would i be without you on my rubbish days :)
Jenson scored more points than anyone in the last 7 races of the 2006 season if that helps?
Might be what im thinking of, but dont think so, not sure
Just watch Grey's Anatomy!
I dont think he has enough for them to spend cash on.
They tried to buy a footballers contract out for £100million last january!
Thanks - where do you live/visit. I know Abu Dhabi is developing this amazing sustainable City Masdar - I actually get my students to review the concept, am am personally totally fascinated in the whole design and planning. To be this was way more innovative that Palms and the World.
So if we apply that to the championship, Alonso to win it in 2011 and Hamilton 2012? Who was in form toward the back end of 2007, Kimi? :D
well Jenson only scored 3points last year ;)
i'll stop quoting random Jenson facts i know now....
probably was alonso i was thinking of, easily mixed up ;)
The year before that, if my memory serves me correctly Rubens did not score any points all season.
#JensonButtonFacts: Jenson's beard comes from his cat's fur.
I grew up in dubai, heading back over there in a weeks time to visit some friends and family, wont be able to get to the race unfortunately
What did your parents do there?
hehe my cousin told me Jenson and Alonso looked the same yesterday, i was shocked.
Another yas picture showing the circuits split operations mode: http://i33.tinypic.com/282jm8k.jpg
yep, and Jenson only scored like 7..
Jenson doesn't.... oh never mind..
Will you get to Abu Dhabi at some point?
My dad had his own business, he still sits on the board of it so he goes back for meetings every few months
And he couldn't get you a ticket???
My family lived there for 20 years and i have never been so i would think its unlikely unless i can get race tickets
hahaha, thats amusing
Is Jenson the first F1 Champion with a beard?
What is it then?
Kind of remarkable how it turn around for both of them. I am just hoping something like could happen to QuickNick.
He lives in Aus now.
Dubai and abu dhabi might be close but the social connections are very different, i dont think he knows anyone in a position to get one there.
Plus i dont think he is too pleased with me at the moment ;)
not sure he has a cat... Jessy has a cat though.. *runs away in shame that she knows a little bit tooo much about them*
He is the first bearded world champion in all of motorsports ever, according to Midweek Motorsport...
dumb question, but what other racing series are they planning to run there?
WHO WON A RACE WITH FACIAL HAAAAIR????
GP2 asia.
the south will be for their own racing cars, a bit like silverstones stowe probably
GP2 Asia?
Le Mans?
GT Series?
A1GP?
V8 SuperTaxis?
You could run anything there TBH...
Whose dog was it that Jenson was holding for his Xmas Message - I got an email to notifying me about when I posted the photo of my dog watching Jenson on the monitor.
presumably they don't need a split configuration to run two races simultaneously though?
Well...
it's Jules' dog...
i know that. the question is what are they "planning" to run there.
they wont run too simultaneously
*two
You know you are an F1 fan when:
You actually think about and count how many F1 champions there have been with mustaches.
(I can think of three off hand. Graham Hill, Keke Rosberg, and Nigel.)
they guy in the video just suggested that was the point of it?
GP2 Asia and Le Mans Asia Series for sure...
Hello again :)
They're not dead yet!!!
Going by what they had/have in Dubai: GP2 Asia, Le Mans, GT3, Porsche cups,
then there are national series like sportbikes, UAE touring cars, Mustangs
OK - I think it might have been Jules who emailed me with the notification. It was terribly sweet and I think he is a very worthy champion with a good sense of humour.
hmmmm
Really? What constitutes motor sport. There must be something like a power boat world champion with a beard. I am well out of touch with it now but about ten years ago some of the top guys were Arabs with very impressive beards.
you got an email from Jules!!!?
They can, they have two race controls!
I like the optimism.
Which qualifying sessions have been the closest this year? Not necessarily in terms of time, but it changing with every car going faster etc? make sense?
I'm doing a presentation on "the use of psychological skills techniques in enhancing driver performance" and want to start it off with a short clip
Says the Spurs fan ;)
am going to stick with the optimists and say it could be saved :) i mean.. look at Brawn!! :D ehehe
you're not the only one :P
No. The split configuratation will be so that they can run two corporate events at the same time or a coporate and a racing school or track day
Um, wheels and a engine, around some sort of demarked route over land?
I can sense the optimism from the experience.
if A1-GP come back, it will make the brawn come back look tame
i've never had an email from Jules... only a little letter. she never replied to my email or letter though.
Going by that, someone with a beard won one the night before.
steering wheel? engine? theres land under the water? ;)
aww
thats disapointing!!
I can't think of any others.
Plan for Goodwood 2010
Get Lou to talk to Jenson/Jules
ahahahahahaha i wont be able to get anywhere near them from now on. he's now uber famous..
I assume one somewhere with changeable conditions like Brazil but I don't know which.
He was uber famous this year and I got to talk to her so you never know ;)
I got a notification - I think you have to put an email when you submit a fan photo for validation - it did not actually say anyone - I cannot track it now but i think it said webmaster Jenson Button website. But clearly they found it funny that my dog is JB fan.
So not the Red Bull air races. That's a sport and they have motors
A handwritten letter is so much nicer than an email though!
Only?? a letter. You were hyper for days about that
Is it a race though?
Although there is a difference between championship leader and actual champion I suppose. Still, I'll stay optimistic for you!
So not motor bikes?
Not according to this lot here, nope ;)
Its more of a time trial
Is the world rally championship racing? They run separately too
What? And I had a good one.
hehehe :) it's on my wall as i speak :) tis very treasured :D
Well that's more of a time trial innit?
we shall see :D hopefully i can get some pics tomorrow anyways :)
And I don't think speedway is racing, either...
How not? 4 laps with 4 riders trying to win.
Still motor sport. Not motor racing but it is definitely motor sport
Agree.
So if rallying qualifies so does the Red Bull air races
motor bikes clear are motorsport.
i don't enjoy watching them, that's all.
But they have some weird points system and it's too quick - 4 laps is Playstation stuff...
Weird points system? Its 3-2-1-0?
Ooh that reminds me, by Wednesday night or Thursday I should be able to create a new Sidepodcar to show off in the new Forza 3 game :D
Very much looking forward to having fun with that
How so? I'm not familiar with how they work... they have to run a course, right? Quickest wins with penalties for clipping?
heya :) yes tomorrow should be fun :)
ooooh! me likey.
this one has a video editor so you may not just be getting photos but videos of it in action. Should be in my hands wednesday sometime...
as are hill climbs, right?
There are only 4 laps in rallycross too
Yes.
ooooh. Got any designs floating around your head?
are ya relying on royal mail?
Liked your FIFA10 video, BTW...
4 laps of a circuit, not a loop inside a stadium though...
Nope, the website I always go for are using UK Mail as couriers so no need to worry about those silly postmen
The Rooney one? :D
Gonna see how in depth the tools are before working out some designs. Apparently it's a lot easier to use than Forza 2 which is excellent, it did get really fiddly after a while although it was without a doubt very rewarding so it should be fun :)
Yes. Penalties for clipping the course markers, pulling too much G force, entering the course at too high a speed and not going through a gate with the wings at the right angle. The stewards are incredible. The course takes around a minute and during that time they can consider and apply penalties. Apart from the last couple of gates where they simply don't have time
Where he smacks the ref with a ball for being offside!
Technically speedway is still a circuit.
Yes
Haha thats the one. It was a complete accident as well... just had to upload a clip of it!
Probably related to sponsor product?
Yeah probably. Don't get me wrong - I loved going to see it at Parken, very entertaining!
Probably more related to clearly defined rules and stewards who know what they are doing. They have colour coded gates. One colour has to be taken with the wings horizontal and another colour means the wings have to be vertical. Any more than 10 degrees off and you get a 2 second penalty. They announce the investigation within 4 or 5 seconds of the incident happen and 15 ish seconds later they announce the penalty or non-penalty
Bloody hell... you gotta wonder how many Red Bull cans they get through for an effort like that though?
And our stewards are so lazy they can't decide if an early release of a car in the pits spraying burning fuel everywhere is a penalty during the race?
It's obviously easier when there is only one vehicle on the course and you have cameras positioned to give you the info you need rather than scenic shots of SIngapore by night but the make F1 look very amateurish.
The Heikki incident yesterday was a joke. That penalty was obvious before he set fire to Kimi.
Can someone quickly help with Chrome? Having a wierd problem with it - It keeps gobbling up my bookmarks toolbar except for when on the homepage....!
Ctrl B ;)
Thank you!
Chrome newbieness :(
I am having to use half firefox and half chromium on ubuntu, its amazing how much you miss it!
Is this old at all? Can't see it mentioned in the daily anywhere
Kimi offered contract by Toyota
Not that I could see it happening but that'd be a fair scoop if it did....
The whole thing?
You should be more carefull! With great power comes great responsibility...
Maybe the Elders of the Internet were annoyed and strike fury upon thee
Oh no... advertisements on Youtube before videos? Seriously?
oh dear. techgeek wouldn't be who we think it is, would it?
Have been considering it but didn't want to say just in case...
Hi di hi
ah i did wonder
They made the trophy with the bottle tops collected over the race weekend? I didnt know that, its a pretty interesting idea!
I thought it was just random junk!
message for lou, can we recommend you're very careful who you meet with tomorrow. same goes to daniel.
hi jackie, how goes it in your world.
Hey Jackie :)
it's only ever a matter of time before he gives himself away.
Has Lou composed herself yet.. after yesterday, I mean?
i thought the _ version is, but not the non _'d version?
Great thanks .. you well?
Hi Gavin
same person. don't worry, christine and i have been watching all evening. tis very hard to tell when concentrating on a live show.
I've been chuckling at the Times greatest drivers ever article
Got a link? Is it Mr. Gorman again?
Thats creepy, daniel had arranged to meet him i believe
oh really?! i only realised when the _ came
Hullo.
Boing bouncy boing .. I feel like T-i-gg-r now
That was lou today wasn't it?
Oh dear you must have stolen all my energy i have the opposite!
someones in a good mood
Haven't seen her but I imagine so
and give him a lift. i shall email now and make aware.
Is Daniel on twitter?
it happens occasionally, for no good reason
Ah no worries.
woop, love it when that happens
he posted his email in the comments yesterday.
And how's Jon, still having fun at Uni?
Generally yes....today....not so much
Awesome :)
it gets better
yeah, generally its good, just having an off day for certain reasons
Sure Kimi is not using it to get McLaren to up their offer.
I reckon Kimi is going rallying, I thought the McLaren offer meant he'd have to do sponsorship and that was the no no for him
am taking mum... so i probably wont be meeting up with anyone... should i ask why?
i take it you wont be coming tomorrow then :(
Is there any word on when the panel's are starting up again? I miss em!
not really :D
Hey Lou, I was thinking about you all evening, wondering how big a smile you'd have
as soon as we can. yesterday's show barely even happened, so we're not planning on adding to the complexity just yet. we miss 'em too :(
I think Kimi will be in F1 if there is enough pay and a light load of sponsorship stuff - otherwise he is off doing something else. I would like to see him rallying and be the next great Finnish Champion in a long tradition of them.
chris the psycho stalker wanted to meet you. he's the kind of person you never want to meet.
oh never mind i read through the comments... i'll be sticking with mum anyways :) we'll be going shopping too (she has the money you see ;) )
you know who but the other you know who the one that is banned from the comments but not the one your thinking of you know who but the other you know who on the unmentionable list but not the other name of him as he's loved but you know who.
Shoulda just said He who shall not be named, that didn't drive a Ferrari
Sorry I missed yesterdays .. and only saw highlights of the race, was feeling ill but today is bouncy bouncy
ahahaha erm... well... i've been smiling all day and am still happy now :)am a little calmer than yesterday..
blimey, I feel dumb :D
love it :D
You guys are gonna have an awesome day!
Birthday shopping?
i'll be obsorbed by the crowd tomorrow (with mum) only people i'll probably be seeing that i've even heard of will be Jenson and Croftie.. :P
Someone has had a good day
well... it will be afternoon, school in the morning :)
no.. i think my rents have spent enough money on me this birthday (am going to spa dontcha know :D ) but i'd love a new pair of shoes :D
Hi Steven, not especially but I just feel kinda happy
Excellent
i wish i could have a new pair of shoes....
for me it's a case of "do they fit? yes? lets get them"
Oh that's right... you're the hobbit aren't you? ;)
You got big feet?
Wow!!! What an awesome pressie!!! :D
12-14
make that little feet :D
ummm
;)
He will go to McLaren. They are just negotiating. Toyota making him an offer is just stupid. They don't know their budget for next year for another month yet
I hope we dont have unexpected guests there...
Is that big enough to make shoe-shopping difficult?
12-14!!!!
am generally at the 14 end
tis okay i heard the channel is pretty deep.
so yeah ;)
:D
Change Spa to Monza?
Lets chaaaaaaaaaaaaange the subject :D
i'm pretty sure people like that aren't allowed out of the country anyhow. day release only i believe.
I did see something about that on dropio. Nice birthday present
it's all thanks to sidepodcast :) hehe i also got a satnav from them so when i can drive (test is soon! - eeek!) i can always get home :)
chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamagne the subject?
really? cause the looney keeps coming back.
Perrrrrrlease change the subject :(
Yes - I have the perfect song for Jenson tomorrow: Going Home by Mark Knopfler!
it may be so, but i don't like people being nasty, even if they do "deserve it"
:) i may have to wait for nearly a year but it's going to be awesome! :D
We need a game, any suggestions?
Pick a song for Jenson?
NO new religions :P
F1 people as biscuits?
What am i eating?
lol
We could make a F1 version of the game of Life.
What can I put on the top of my asidepodcar as in looking down on it?
Just sketching some ideas for the Sidepodcar Mk II... thinking about making an F1 car to go on top but it;d look odd I guess
100 reasons why Jenson is a great WDC
1) He has a nice smile :D
Oh no... not another one...
you're not on the receiving end of it though are you?
Bernie: “It was a shame that we had to lose Ayrton, but it happened. He was very popular, but the actual event interested so many people who did not know about the sport, and increased interest in F1 because of it.”
he sure does
link?
i'm not at all, and i have no idea whats happening to you or christine, but i really hate it when it goes negative around here
I think there is no chance of Kimi going to Toyota - they seem to have an slightly inflated view of the car. But I can see Toyota attempting to get Kimi as it would secure parent funding for F1 with such megastar in the seat.
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/153720/1/ecclestone_publicity_from_senna_death_good_for_f1.html
move along now, nothing to see .. he's a champion idiot
fine. i'll go away.
2) he likes dogs!
why? why would you need to?
so, must comment monday, who's been blogging?
3) He overtook Kobayashi
Just reading the article Jackie mentioned from the Times online about the 50 greatest F1 drivers.
It's so off the mark it's not even wrong!
Just writing a post ;)
Is there a link?
4) He did a victory lap on foot at Monaco
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article6880955.ece
Is there a linK?
wrote one on the train but havent got round to finishing it
hang on I'll getcha
I'm being kind to Kobayashi for an enitre post.
Seems to be based on a GMM translation.
It sounds bad, but it might be best to wait for somone who knows what they are doing to report it?
we are all very proud of you :)
Wheres the GMM bit?
link to Times http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article6880955.ece?token=null&offset=132&page=12
Crash.Net are just sloppy anyway!
Can I ask how you suggest we be positive about the situation?
I quite liked him (sorry RG)
5) Likes the band Queen.
Hey don't be mean to Kobayashi he had his moments - I thought he was better than some other new and not so new drivers we have seen this year!
It is hard to be isn't it - some dude abuses you two, will not go away, displays worrying behaviour and wants to meet people in public? Sounds bad to me!
oh no... mr c.. look!! - Croftie!
The trandlations seem to be very similar to this story http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/091019154900.shtml
Christine, you know Lucas Di Grassi is on twitter, right?
I thought he was older
6) He is incredible! and totally deserves it!
i havent said you have to be
Have to agree with gavin here, he's a nuisance and it's unfair on Mr and Mrs C.
Hehe that amuses me!
Clearly you're not happy with how we're handling the situation, and we are open to suggestions.
I though that he at least tried ans show something - in all honesty what had Fisi done in the Ferrari, or Romain in the Renault or, if we are being honest, Tim in the Toro Rosso.
7) That drive in Hungary in 2006.
8) The EYES!
9) He's fit (in the sense he can do triathalons, not that he's, well, you know what i mean ;))
9) He tweets
Is he trying to negotiate a severance package or is he setting up something for Todt here?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/19102009361-jpg
Just a quick sketch of my ideas for the car when the game arrives... no specific car yet... it's just a general ideas so far but I have no idea what I could put on top
Sorry it;s a bit rubbish. If there's one thing I fail at miserably it's drawing cars
You have got to have a muffin.
you guys have issues with him, thats fine, i just cant stand how things are so negative sometimes. it just makes me sad.
You guys are great, we love you both lots, just keep doing what you're doing, it's clearly my issue, i'll just leave it
why?
11)He was (possibly) named after his dad drunkenly stumbled around a pub car park looking at cars to name his son after ;)
really?
except the car is a Jensen, and he is called Jenson...
Every time I have to deal with an person at work who shoots their mouth off to press, I will tale a deep breath think to myself, "At least I'm not the PR rep for Bernie."
Maybe he was worried people would notice so he changed the spelling ;)
He comes from Somerset (where my grandparents came from)
NO! :D
Ha... on Fi... er - that saturday morning sports panel programme on Radio 5 hosted by the cheery Irishman, Austin Healey reckoned he wouldn't be a real man like him until he changed his surname to 'Interceptor' :D
moving on...
12) Brought highlighter yellow into style.
Jon, I think with this sort of stuff you have a particular soft spot - and you have explained why in the past and it's fine, but from what little I know, what we say here is 1% of what he does...
Probably best to draw a line under it now.
13) He proved Flav wrong
If that is a serious estimation of the top 50 drivers I would suggest he concentrates on Scrabble in future as he is clearly clueless about drivers
course ;)
Sounds about right.
if by soft spot you mean that i dont like people being nasty then yes
14) he can sing AND drive an f1 car :)
hehe and there are some real inaccuracies in there to like Bruce McClaren
I'll just go
He has them all mixed up!
__________________________________________________
proof of the singing :) ?
Have corrected
and Jack Surtees
15) First F1 WDC with a beard during his championship year.
pmsl (sorry Lou)
noooo! help us with the Jenson list!!
i love that i can talk about jenson loads and everyone else wants to talk about him too!
It is painful to read - so many links fell like copying and pasting and then reading!
Don't be like that - we have changed the subject anyway :P
i'm sure he can sing... but singing and driving an f1 car must be hard.. plus remember the brawn radio isn't good...i'll stop making excuses :)
16) He has a nice girlfriend
17) His dad doesn't act like an evil puppet master?
thank goodness
18) Is supported by lou
his dad is lovely!
18) He is "Big in Japan!"
aww!
17) he apparently looks good in his cycling outfit (according to my female friends)
20) he is Brawn driver! and brawn drivers are amazing.
Somehow I can't see Anthony Hamilton being like that?
oo... that too..
haha I'm laughing now, that's like RG'd Hanna Montana comment :D
We'll make that #19.
20) Joe Saward and David Tremayne supported him from the beginning.
I have to question that one :D
oh no... i can't see Anthony Hamilton being lovely and nice
Stop bringing that up !
i think we may need a wiki list...
I get the feeling everyone is looking at me.
*blush*
I saw the first one and that was enough for me. Who would put Michele Alboreto in the top 50? What did he do? The rest was just as bad.
22) he did that mad interview in the garage
21. He's bestest mates with DC
It seems that being dead helps on that list!
21) He has a great website!
12 pages for that is just a joke
well you are the wiki king :P
23. He is friends with Ant Davidson too!
25) He proved Jock Clear wrong (again)
Okay, can people just pause for a minute, all these are like all jumbled up
It has always been the case. Drivers always get better as soon as they die. Especially if they die in a racing car. Just like people sell more records when they die
there should be 26 up till now
Poor Jules hasn't even been mentioned yet
27 (is that the right number?) He has the nicest and most supportive PA
28. He has a team of a few people called 'team Jenson'...
It is rubbish - it seems that he puts Jenson higher than Sir Jack Brabham - who won three world championship and one in his own car! Jenson might get there, but not yet!
Who is it says "get in there Jenson"
James Allen
I think Shov and the other bloke need a mention too
Shov :)
29. He was part of the dream team in 2007, 2008 and 2009 :)
okay...
29. His engineers have awesome nicknames - Shov & Bono.
30. Both Shov and Bono did the London triathlon with Jenson.
32. When Jenson gets happy he hugs everyone in sight, even the camera men :D
33. his helmet matches his car
I might have that clip of 2006 where James Allen shouts "get in there" - would you guys get annoyed if I drop.io'd it?
heheh no, because no even James can ruin that moment for me..
i've just realised that Ant Davidson has commentated on every single race win Jenson has had :) (i think... - which race was he away for this year?)
34) First driver to have helmet-design competition!
As long as it has a health warning clearly labeled!
I think it on Youtube
Got jenson on top gear too...
Hungary
i <3 that episode. i love that a few weeks after that interview Jenson wins his first race :D
He had to pay up if I remember correctly - it was hilarious!
35. In 1997, he became the youngest driver ever to win the European Super A Championship.
ah :) so he has... therefore Ant must commentate next year..
#sidepodspace update
NASA have finally decided when they will launch the next space shuttle mission. Needless to say it is already a week behind its original schedule so Christine can put her letter writing kit away for a while
Launch will be on November 16th at 2:28pm Eastern which is 7:28pm UK. A bit more sensible than some recent launches.

But secretly, no 41 - He made me create an awesome wiki page
:D

very nice it is too
hehe awesome job!
42) He is listed as one of sidepodcast's hobbies on the youtube page :D

Is it wrong I'm kinda looking forward to upgrading to Windows 7 on thursday?
can't be worse than vista
oooo!! just realised that i may be able to have a look around the apple show and stare at all the nice tech :D i can spend hours in there :D
Nothing could be worse than Vista!
It has an insane price!
I have the premium (Home premium version i assume?) for £30 because of our uni... so i thought I'd go for it...
#44... ahh... well.. ahh... can't we just make this a top 50?
Ah good buy!
see how it goes, it's quite quiet tonight so far
less of a challenge
But Linux is Better and Free!
#44 before this season he'd only ever won one gp
#45 he uses a mac computer.
As ever, let us know what you’re doing with your week, whether you’re celebrating or commiserating/ {Original entry}
Both simultaneously. Celebrating over Jenson's championship victory (and a Hamilton podium) and commiserating that Fisi and the Force Indias netted a 10th, 11th and a DNF between them.
What I'm doing with my week:
Today - went to placement, taught my supervisor how to add and edit records on the database, laminated some certificates and did some miscellaneous receptionist stuff like answering phones. Unfortunately the only other staff member interested in F1 left a couple of weeks back due to cutbacks, though she may be slightly disappointed by yesterday's result because she's a Barrichello supporter (she supports Brawn as well though, so there's a silver lining for her).
Then went to college, failed a practise medical terminology test and then strangely remembered everything during the lesson!
Tomorrow - placement plus college, where I think I'll be teaching a new student how to get a student card, among other things.
Wednesday - placement.
Thursday - sign-on at the JobCentre, see my college disability support officer, see Grandma and then miss swimming :( (Mum reckons it's a bad idea for me to go swimming and possibly crash into someone/something when I've probably still got glue attached to my head).
Friday - placement.
Its fine so far. Doesn't seem to work to well with bbc iplayer though
Barrichello has proved what a nice guy he is once again by lending Button his private jet so he can fly back to Britain in his own time {Original entry}
What happened to the PR gig? Regardless, that was very nice of Rubens and shows he's a sporting bloke :)
have you tried mplayer/vlc plugin for ff
Ooooh the chain just came on my playlist!!!! :D :D :D
Depends on what multi-media applications you have. I cannot test it out for you cos of the geo-blocking and proxy's we have to use.
Hehe you keep secretly jumping out!
...and no ;)
another question, do you think Brawn or any other team may use Abu Dhabi as a chance to test out a few of next years aero developments? i’m sensing i know the answer to this question anyway… {Comment #9}
Ferrari stuck some 2010 development part on Fisi's car on Friday at Brazil, so I assume that they, as an absolute minimum, will do the same in Abu Dhabi.
to help :D
Hi everyone. Is Jenson still champion?
of course! :D
Mr C mentioned a rumour earlier that he still is. So I guess so!
Not only is he still champion, he has his own wiki page
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/100+Reasons+Why+Jenson+Button+Is+A+Great+WDC
morning all.
I seem to have started keeping normal people hours and as such am up super early.
Master stalker I am :D
Morning Amy! :)
Hello Andy :)
gosh its been two days since Sunday and you're still very happy ;)
Morning amy and good night everyone.
Just checking, you know how things can change when you least expect them to.
no it's only been one day :D and yes i'm still bouncing around. love it!! i've waited years for him to be champion and finally he did it! i'll be happy for years!
well Bernie said "Well, he's not world champion until the end of November when the FIA announce it. He's got enough points, if everything else is alright, to be world champion and he deserves it too." so... i assume yes :)
ah yes, it kind of has been one day since the race was on Monday here :D
Because I am up super early I am off to the markets for breakfast before work. Bye all!
hehe i am installing VLC, i asume the plugin comes with it ;)
I am using 2 browsers at the moment, chromium for everything, until things dont work, then firefox ;)
Get You!
Morning/Bye!
wow! i could never go to a market before breakfast! (not that there are any markets here..)you must be up soooo early! have fun!
hmmm I wonder if it will be james next year or could we hear a new voice emerge?
*imagines EJ doing it* {Comment #66}
Even as an EJ fan, I hope that doesn't happen. We'd only get about three questions done in the conference, of which the TV people would get about half of the first one...
In Linux you should use either Firefox or Opera (I guess Konqueror but I am not wild about it)
It would be only one - after a big spiel about how wonderful EJ is, he'd just ask a stupid question!
erm not sure. I think it's a separate package (if you install the plugin though the player comes with it automatically :) )
However it’s important to remember that Toyota have a nuts driver policy which cannot be violated. I think they wanted Kobaiashi in the car as Nakajima won’t be racing next year. Toyota’s driver plan is that they must have 1 experienced race winning driver and one rookie. So while they want to replace Trulli, they are being forced into replacing Glock by their own silly rule. {Comment #105}
But Glock's done two years and a race. Does that not classify as "experienced", or is Toyota's driver policy even more nuts than it first appears?
Just like to pick you up on something, its actually two years and four races.
the same trick you used for flash should work for this
Which helps your point even more.
Well, they used to have Ralf as a driver.
The BBC article suggests that Glock is being dropped and Jarno might be kept. Then they got rid of McNish and Salo without giving either driver any real chance to prove their worth after their first season.
Flash doesnt work properly, I have dound a plugin to make FF look like chrome so maybe that is my soloution ;)
This is why I don't like Toyota!!!
Button is on 7 of the ten biggest papers front pages this morning. {Comment #109}
He was on every front page in my local newsagent, except for the regional papers... ...and the Daily Mail.
I will be interested in that plugin!
You mean the Daily Mail missed a chance to fly the Union Jack and proclaim all foreign drivers rubbish?
Norbert Haug: So here are some unusual statistics to enjoy: for the second year in a row, car number 22, driven by an Englishman and powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine has finished fifth in Brazil to win the world championship – what an amazing list of coincidences! {Comment #98}
So this means that USF1 will not only switch engine suppliers but have a British lead driver who will thence become champion in Brazil without appearing on the podium on the race when the championship is taken? How would the American public react to that?
not sure if it's been mentioned yet but i like today's big picture :D
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/10/saturn_at_equinox.html
On a tagnet, I love the phrase “That’s the last place I would have looked for it” – implying that someone would continue looking for it after they found it? Crazyness! {Comment #125}
I do occasionally, when I forget what I was looking for after I've found it. Much hilarity generally ensues.
there are happy birthday Heikki messages on Twitter {Comment #129}
Somehow, I don't think the stewards got into the spirit of the day because they've demoted him to 12th.
Then again, after he was involved in the dictionary definition of an unsafe pit release yesterday, I don't think they had any choice!
How is everyone this morning? {Comment #148}
Absolutely fine.
Havent found a good one yet i am afraid
The gaurdian and the dail mail were too busy worying about the whims of the leftists and rightists to know what happened.
What made it even more shocking was that even the independent, which is normaly off in the clouds managed to report it!
Huh? How did you work that out?
It was quite MEGA if i may say so myself {Comment #206}
I've spent so long staring at that word in Medical Terminology class (where they call it a prefix) tonight that I would be tempted to call anything something else, even if "mega" was indeed the most apt term for it in reality...
Doesn't Maurice Hamilton work for the Indie?
We have the wonderful product “Websense” here which makes sure that you don’t look at anything naughty. For reasons best known to itself it has decided that a) twitters css page – but not the site itself should be block d and b) Sidepodcast wiki’s css page – but not the site itself should be blocked. {Comment #216}
Wierd! I thought my mobile internet provider's product was strange when it blocked the Fisichella Forum a few weeks back claiming I wasn't supposed to be looking at it, but at least when it condescends to load a page it gives me everything the PDA can handle and I permit...
There are some incredible pictures in that selection
Evening!
STEVEN!!!
If they get number 22 next year and follow the pattern of the previous two seasons
Hello
I have only just listened to sidepodspace. I wanted to say it was great - really enjoyed it.
Oh those pictures are absolutely stunning!
Thank you!
I think he was just talking about the past 2 seasons....
But why would USF1 have numerical preference?
It went on a bit longer than planned so I am glad it didn't bore you
Not at all. In fact there was an obvious question that wasn't asked or answered. I will will have to save it up.
I assume that it is related to the order the teams were announced or something similar. If anyone knows which new team has which number it will be Alianora.
good afternoon all… I hear Button is still world champion! {Comment #224}
Correct - the only changes are to Kovalainen losing three positions due to the unsafe pit release and Trulli's wallet after he was fined for being too busy being furious at Sutil to notice the marshals telling him to leave that area of the circuit.
I got an awful lot of questions for that show. I was surprised there was so much interest. I am very curious about what obvious point was missed.
The person who has sent the e-mail has:
1) Created a pdf document
2) Attached it to an e-mail
3) Printed the e-mail to pdf
4) Sent to my colleague the pdf of the e-mail, that just has an icon of the pdf as a picture in it now.
Whoops. {Comment #245}
The thought goes through my head:
Why?!?
Campos were at the top of the press release and the entrylist with condidtonal entries as it was done alphabeticly though?
OK, not obvious really. Just a F1 tie-in. I was going to ask why they don't use carbon fibre as a construction material to save weight.
Actually in the bigger picture, is Kimi the only one left in the paddock who allegedly still knows how to party? I hate to say it but the grid might be just a bunch of dullards at the moment. {Comment #278}
I think quite a few of them know how to party - but they know how to do it quietly. Kimi prefers to be exuberant when partying, which is commendable but not conducive to avoiding dodgy headlines in the paper the day afterwards.
Driver Consistency for Brazil is done. Enjoy!
I'm shattered so i think it's about time i had an earlish night, don't want to be sleepy at bluewater tomorrow!! night all! xx
Good use of Pic App - that site saves me so much time searching / cropping images. Plus space on my server storing files I'll rarely use again!
Thanks to Mr C. for the heads up with that one...
Interesting. I think they will. The shuttles were designed so long ago it probably wasn't an option but I know some of the private spacecraft have carbon contruction. The Virgin Galactic spaceship and the launch aircraft are built by Bert Rutan's comapny Scaled Composites for example.
http://www.scaled.com/
There are some incredible aircraft that company has built
Night Lou. Try not to sleep on the ceiling agin tonight
Night
but the ceiling is so comfy! ;) (Am going ;)) x

and using Carbon fibre.
Yeah I like their stuff. But I wonder if you could use carbon for a real space craft - a rocket or shuttle type craft.
I am sure they can use carbon and composites for the next generation of spacecraft.
It would be only one – after a big spiel about how wonderful EJ is, he’d just ask a stupid question! {Comment #738}
To be fair, the full press conference is 30 minutes and even EJ has to breathe occasionally...
Just like to pick you up on something, its actually two years and four races. {Comment #741}
It would be if Timo hadn't missed the last two through the Japanese crash :( .
Okay, two years, two races. Am now feeling less smug after getting most obvious Timo fact wrong.
And will I console myself I shall go to bed, night all.
You mean the Daily Mail missed a chance to fly the Union Jack and proclaim all foreign drivers rubbish? {Comment #750}
Yes. They were too busy wittering about some singer in some sort of TV contest...
How sad.
Night RG

Okay, two years, two races. Am now feeling less smug after getting most obvious Timo fact wrong.
And will I console myself I shall go to bed, night all. {Comment #792}
Goodnight, RG. Didn't mean to make you unhappy :(
If only he had beaten an Australian.....
You didn't. I just let Timo-land down
#nothere
The daily mail would probabaly write an article about how british weather is not as good as australia.
The gaurdian would probably writean article about how the idea of sport having loosers is unfair on those who arent good enough to win and should be changed
And the independednt would most likely have an article debating whether australia exists.
The rest would hopefully report it normaly or badly ;)
So this means that USF1 will not only switch engine suppliers but have a British lead driver who will thence become champion in Brazil without appearing on the podium on the race when the championship is taken? How would the American public react to that?
Huh? How did you work that out? {Comment #758}
Assuming all 10 current teams stay in F1, the first new team would have number 22 in its ranks.
The race entries are given out to new teams in order of application. Considering how long they've been around, surely USF1 would have been the first of the new teams to apply.
The lead driver would have race number 22, so it is the lead driver that must be British.
Of course, USF1 currently has Cosworth engines and would therefore need to change to Mercedes units in order to maintain Haug's pattern.
The "champion in Brazil without appearing on the podium on the race when the championship is taken" is simply extrapolating from the last two years.
But why would USF1 have numerical preference? {Comment #769}
Because race entries for new teams are done on the order of application. I can't be certain, but USF1 have been around longest and were very definite about their 2010 plans, so one would have expected them to be first to apply. I would not dare predict whether Campos or Manor got their entry in second.
I thought they all entered at the same time following their approval from the FIA slection process?
It would be very odd for them not to do it alphabetically if that was the case
Night everyone ;)
Night
Campos were at the top of the press release and the entrylist with condidtonal entries as it was done alphabeticly though? {Comment #776}
I don't think the numbers are handed out that way, though alphabetically would have made more sense on the press release.
Night Gavin
I thought they all entered at the same time following their approval from the FIA slection process? {Comment #803}
By entered I mean "when they deposited the paperwork with the FIA" rather than "when they were accepted". Unfortunately my wording was bad.
I dont think they directly applied to enter the championship though, to do that they needed a franchise.
they applied to the FIA process to get a franchise, then once accepted the FIA entered them into the championship (presumably alphabetically)
If so the Numbers should Be:
22,23 Campos Beta, 24,25 Manor F1, 26,27 Team USF1 28,29 Notus
*according to my theory
Hello. Apparently my internet works before my phone... :-)
Evening everyone :)
Evening!
Hi Pat and Alex
Evening to you to!
Just watching the Franckage bit of the show. Very nice for Christine on the Internet :)
I am holding on to my hat.
It seemed to make her happy.
I thought the start of the show was funny. The intro section went perfectly and they had no sooner agreed that they hadn't lost their mojo when the whole thing collapsed and neither of them could finish a sentence
twas awesome.
liked the 15 year old bearded Ollie :)
Must be bed time for me. Night everyone.
He didn't seem too happy with that
Night Alex
Night
Thanks for the heads up ! :-)
Glad you got the message, i dont really know that much at all, but it was a little worrying
