It's October, a brand new month, and things are showing no signs of slowing down in Formula 1. In fact, it's all gearing up, as the championship could be over this weekend. There's plenty to be talked about, so here are some snippets:
- Ferrari finally did the decent thing and put us all out of our misery. Alonso has been confirmed for three years at the team starting next year, with Raikkonen's contract coming to an early end. The driver market should really start hotting up now. There's a breakout thread available if you have thoughts on this topic.
- There are new blogs aplenty, as RG sets up his third corner of the web, this time dedicated to one particular driver. No prizes for guessing who. Also Bootneck has been blogging his way through last month, with plenty of thoughts on the racing action.
- In the podcast world, there's a new Digest Preview available for everyone looking to build up to Japan. We also released a Joe show in the early hours of yesterday morning - that may or may not have got lost amongst the Sidepodradio stuff. It's a good one, so make sure you check it out if you haven't already.
That'll do it for now. Let us know how your week is going, and how you're going to cope with the different timings for Japan. I'll see you in the comments.
This whole productive thing isn't going well for me...
However...15 days till my birthday!!!
ooh 1 minute late to my appointment. Thought it would be worse than that!
Dont worry! I didnt forget to let you know, nothing happened!
good! Ill take it from here for the next 15 hours or so.
Morning, everyone. Just quickly dropping by. ;)
Has this been brought up?
Hockenheim holds on to German GP
:P
I didnt think this through, im gonna miss the news if i go to sleep!
What news is there to miss?
Yup, although its a bit odd... we all knew there was trouble, but i didnt really expect it not to happen
The return of Mr Raikkonen!
What about it?
I think it was getting marginal - Hockenheim isn't an unmissable track after all. I think the only reason they stayed on was that the Nurburgring didn't want to fully take over.
Will that be today? I was thinking they'd wait until tomorrow.
Ah, McLaren. Right, gotcha.
Well MClaren are sort of my team, i dont really make a big deal of it, but they are.
They are in fact my local team. They are the closest professional sports team to where i live. So Its a bit like having your local football team... you have to support them!
And Kimi returning is EPIC news!
The sooner the better, but i will probably miss it, i always miss stuff like this...
Do you think they'll really announce something that quickly?
The longer you wait the more rumour storys appear and the more press you get, then you announce it and get even more press!
They might as well, Ferrari wanted to wait untill the end of the season, but they got fed up of being asked the same question over and over so they gave up!
No reason not to announce it now. Everyone knows what is happening and Kimi would not have taken the Ferrari deal until the McLaren contract was signed, sealed and delivered.
hmm when i go to my doctor in the afternoon she is running an hour late. Today i was the third appointment and she is already 20 minutes late.
So, with Alonso's 2010 future finally in place, we can start to watch the pieces of next season's driver line-up puzzle fall into place. After McLaren, which seems to be the next team to announce, who do we think will be next?
Renault will go next I suspect, followed by a new team. Williams and Brawn will not announce until the season ends in November or until the championship is decided.
It must be tough to go to work every day knowing that you are going to be faced with a string of people complaining about what is wrong with them
Renault can't do anything till they get a new team principal sorted. That could be the next block in the market.
Nick & Jon:
Chaps, unfortunately, I cannot get tomorrow evening off from work so will have to bail on the F1 talk. Next time...
Big apologies, please give us a good run down if it's a good'un
Nuh-uh If you dont go we are going to keep it all a big secret! ;)
We're going to meet up before now anyway as i need to be back earlier. Shame, but theres always a next time!
there is nothing wrong with me, i must be the best patient ever. Once i get this jab in my arm i shall never need to return as it is the last of 3.
KFC do injections?
You don't need to get a Jab to come to Europe do you? we're nice and clean over here :)
You're getting jabs for Spa?
The Belgians are a little weird but they're not that bad!
If you want to meet up earlier than that and go for a beer, i dont have anything on tomorrow afternoon...
It's a secret blend of herbs and spices :)
Hmmm. Good point there. Williiams and Brawn are independent of Kubica's movement, though, so they'll announce by November whatever happens.
think of it as a long-term investment. those jabs you're taking only became widespread in the last couple of years...
Yeah, that sounds good. I have nothing on, so name your place/time?
how is that ticket buying going ;)
I'm quite annoyed that I'm marginally too old to be safe forever from cervical cancer....
Renault have a management team in place behind the principle, if think they are worried they migh loose kubica i can see them going ahead and doing the deal wthout somone in place
Likelihood is still very low though, right?
I am now 85% sure i will be in the UAE when the race is on... do i buy tickets?
Time depends on how much you want to drink ;)
Which station are you coming into (assuming your coming by train)
Fairly.... As a woman my age though, statistically speaking, there's a very high chance I carry the virus that causes it.
Hehe. Please let me know where/when as well as I will be in London early too.
You can message me your mobile number to my email andy at aj taylor dot com.
Hay Amy do you know where McLaren stay in Melbourne?
I've had a tough week so far so haven't dedicated the brain space to it but I will get there, I promise
i enjoyed reading in the news the other day about the english girl who died after getting the same one i am getting today.
was going to come into Westminster or St James Park, hadn't thought about it more than that. I come into london on Marylebone.
I'll just have one, but am happy to film you drink for other peoples sidepodpleasure ;)
I haven't read about this. Sounds bad.
Can you not get the injections?
I bet yes complete with room numbers
There's not really any point.... Obviously Australia don't use the same programme as we do but once you're sexually active, you pretty much get infected.
Oh yeah, that one!
But the chances of stuff happening by not having the jab far outweigh the risks. She was very, very unlucky
I can imagine
Not wanting the room numbers.
She was 14 and had some kind of reaction to it and died that day I think.
:D
Are we talking swine flu here?
Dont worry it sounds like it wasnt related...
As if getting injections wasnt enough fun already!
Nope, cervical cancer.
Yeah I found a very brief article about it. BBC search is awful though. There's no option to sort results by date.... I had to trawl through loads about some woman who had an epidural in the wrong place and died back in 2001....
They don't know what it was. Does sound very odd that a 14 year old drops down dead just after she has an injection though....
have done
I now have a vision of Amy hiding under the tablecloth on a room service trolley.
Ok cool, I know a pub next to trafalgar square, but not to much in westminster.
One! Ha! shall we meet an hour earlier then? 4:45?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8279855.stm
BBC News/Health
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8279656.stm
I dont think thats helping!
sounds good to me! i've DM'd you my number.
let me know where we're meeting tomorrow!
and with that, i shall depart.
night all
G'night Jon
Enjoy the lecture, don't let Nick lead you astray ;)
Why not? It's true. The trust involved have withdrawn the injection until they get postmortem results. It is very suspicious.
hmmm ;)
The story seems to hint at it being a batch problem.
Ok the only pubi know in that direction is the chandos. Its between Leicester square and trafalgar square on charring cross road.
if you come down the picadilly to charring cross, head though traflgar square on charring cross road (right side of the national gallery) its just on the right by some traffic lights.
If you get lost i have DMd you my number
That's probably worse....
Latest reports are saying there were 'a serious underlying medical conditions' involved with the girl and that the jab was most unlikely to have been the cause
the important people like drivers and team management stay at crown towers, not sure about the mechanics and things.
Thanks Amy.
That is what I had thought.
ps im still alive.
That's good, I had know idea how to get hold of Heikki or Kimi for the flowers
But that's where the party will be :)
you sure you've sent it to me?
Where? I don't see this. I see a press release from a panicking drug firm saying they can't rule out it was an underlying health problem or a coincidence. It doesn't look like she's an ill girl.
Hehehehe
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8281673.stm
Dr Caron Grainger, joint director of public health for NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council, said the results of a preliminary post-mortem examination had "revealed a serious underlying medical condition which was likely to have caused death".
Not helping amy i meant!
no i havent 1 sec! :P
Hmmmm I wish they'd tell you what it was....
Sounds very convenient.
ahaha
smmooootthhh ta.
I'm sure that would be normal procedure and a wise precaution. Nothing more can be said until the PM results are released and the family informed
Standard stuff
It's like any medical treatment there is a level of risk.
There's no way Glaxo would let their drug go into retirement whether it killed the girl or not though. That's 10-15 years of development in there. It's worth millions.
I had to sign all manner of waivers when I did a wisdom tooth painkiller study. If only Beagles could give better feedback :)
Steven did you see that GT flash game i posted earlier?
Drug companies very rarely put their hands up and admit fault.
I had a quick look at it but I don't like overhead driving games and I really cannot get my head round someone putting up a question about recognising engine noises. I am sure the actual game is good but the flash thing bored me almost instantly.
I have no idea how to do the corner angle thing perfectly, i can do pretty much everything else in it...
No it's a shame though. I shalln't bore you. I did a project about some anti-malarials a couple of years ago. It shocked me how much of a trend can develop between certain drugs and their effects without further study being authorised or funded. There's no incentive. Most research is funded by drug companies. Why would they pay to fund research into their own drugs causing problems.... It's such a cynical environment to work in.
It's gone very quiet for some reason
Everyone's died from experimental drug treatments....
Sorry, wrong thread, I'm getting bad at this
Just from talking about them?
Also, Fernando talks about a 2011 deal that was brought forward. Were Ferrari not happy with Kimi?
He is just waiting for the official announcement. Heikki must know the situation. Presumably we have passed the option date on his contract. Amy?
His body language at Singappore indicated that he has been already shown the door
There's no harm for them to wait until Heikki has sorted something else out though. It only seems decent of them. I don't see why they wouldn't
Another example of McLaren/Whitmarsh controlling the story? Seems to me, anyway
their option on heikki ended a few months ago. I think their silence may be for his benefit too. There is no way he is staying.
I think so
McLaren try to be the good guys but cack it up on a huge scale sometimes, seemingly, in my experience, Engineeers rarely make the best management decisions but generally mean well
F1 rarely works like that. I am sure his management have been talking to other teams for a while and may even have done a deal.
I love that we have stalkers on this site with this kind of information
They cant wait forever though, and not announcing something everyone knows looks silly, not just to them but to kimi as well.
I think thats a big part of the reason Ferrari announced when they did, they couldn't do anything without being asked about it, easier to just get it out the way and move on...
I expect we could see it late tomorrow afternoon, no point doing it before todays papers go out as it would get lost in alonso to ferrari stories
Yes. But if they've got Kimi signed, it doesn't matter when they announce it. They could wait until Heikki is signed elsewhere, it gives him the benefit of a slightly improved negotiating position. It also seems like respect for the years he spent at the team. What do they lose out of it?
in my high school yearbook my "probable career" was professional stalker.
Perhaps it looks just as silly as Brawn?
I dont think it will really improve his position, McLaren have made it pretty obvious he isnt staying
They won't want Kimi to be pestered all through this weekend so logically they will announce it at the Thursday press conference just to get it out in the open.
Brawn have a genuine reason not to say anything though as their drivers are in a championship fight
You are almost there. You just need to find a way to make money from it.
I think they're just being polite. Martin's a nice guy.
Kimi, pestered? Only if you wake him up too late, or invite him to a party too late.
I totally agree, it would be bad form to announce that Rubens wasn't to be signed and then he wins the championship
If he does, the (alleged) Williams deal may not even go ahead
It would make Brawn and Mercedes look pretty stupid to have the number one on a Williams next season.
Didn't something similar happen between Renault and McLaren a few years back?
Exactly, cos that's Frank Williams' trick
It's happened quite a few times in the past.
Alonso announced his McLaren deal about a year before joining them whilst still at Renault, then went on to win another championship with the Regie
When he went back to Renault though. That was announced so so late.
Schumacher took the number one to Ferrari as well
Mansell took it and left the sport!
Wouldn't he have taken the "Red 5"? ;-)
Williams were making a habit out of losing Champions in the 90's
You don't get the choice in F1. You have to have number one if you win the championship
He did take that, although the following season we had car 0 which was pretty cool
I think that shows the the Frank Willliams attitude that the car is the winner and the driver is just a part of the car. Once Frank finds a "winning car" he is willing to sacrifice even reasonable offers from drivers.
Not today, but back in the day you did have the choice. in the mid 90s teams were not even required to change car / driver numbers from year to year. How long did Ferrari run the 12 / 27 combo?
On a sidenote, Steven, I take it you have heard that Steven Hawking is stepping down as head of Maths at Cambridge?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/8283617.stm
Or that he refuses to pay up for a champion's wages
I think it was just that he thought he could get a better driver. He didn't dump Mansell. Mansell quit because he didn't want to be Prost's team mate after their time at Ferrari. Prost also had the option to stay but didn't want to be Senna's team mate again. Frentzen was signed to replace Hill at a time when Hill lopked like he was not capable of being a world champion.
Would / Could / Should he have paid for the 1999 - 2006 Schumacher? (we know which one.....) and given up the, admittedly hindsight 20-20, results?
The world champions always had to have number 1. The only numbers that changed were the driver who won the title and his team mate swapped their numbers with 1 and 2. Ferrari only had 11 and 12 for a short time. Lauda won the 75 championship and at the end of his year as champion he got number 11 for 1977. He won tha title but took the number one to Brabham. Scheckter won the 79 title and got number 1for 1980. He quit at the end of that season so Villeneuve got the number 27 that Jones won that years title with. After that with the exception of 1982 Ferrari rarely looked like winning a title again so they kept those numbers for a lot of years.
Didn't know he was head of Maths at Cambridge
Really?
He's a complete hero, I thought you's be a bit of a fan
If i thought he was head of anything there i would have said astro physics?
Maths is the biggest department of the 'sciences'
He is amazing and I knew he was at Cambridge but I had no idea what his job was. I still don't understand how he can have motor neuron disease for 40 years though. That is unbelievable.
He was predicted to be dead by 30 or something after being diagnosed with M.N.D. in his early 20's
He was meant to stick around
Most people don't last 5 years. My dad had it and he only lasted about two.
I guess Hawking's mind portrays that he is quite a unique individual
:( I'm really sorry to hear about that Steven.
It was a long time ago but it is an awful disease
It's really difficult losing a parent, I've been there too
What do we all have planned for the weekend after the early sessions are over?
Mmmmm bed.....
So, you're doing an Amy and staying up?
Err not intentially. I doubt I'll get up to watch it though....
MotoGP for me. :)
Of course, Stoner's back I hear
Is that back already? WooHoo!!!! any news on Stoner?
He's back for Estoril
Yeah, but any news if his rest was enough or if there is some deeper issues at play?
Indeed. F1 Forum should end at around 9 AM BST. 125cc race starts at 10 AM BST.
We won't really find out until Sunday. His 1-lap pace was always fine, it's his race pace that was problematic.
All a bit inconclusive I think, possbily viral. Hopefully, he's over it
And our hosts moving home shortly after an early afternoon Debrief show :)
i am looking forward to this weekend because the debrief will be at a watchable hour but i dont like daytime races, there is something so "normal" about watching at 10pm.
When I was in Sydney, it was nice sitting down at night with a few beers to watch the race in a quiet household
West coast of the Americas? I get to watch is 3 hours 'later' at 1am . Usually we get the races at 8am which is more than fine, since at 10:30-11:00am everything is wrapped up.
Amy's in Australia
Don't you miss a lot of stuff because you're working?
the debrief's early? where does it say that? can't find it in the japan schedule post...
I think he means Saturday night/Sunday morning
exactly its always nice and quiet and its how i relax on a sunday night before bed. Instead this week it will be 4pm and the world around me will be noisy
They mentioned it on Sunday, I think it was off-air
They are moving house
Sunday F1 Minute 4 PM
F1 Debrief (Live) 12 PM
Ah, makes sense then. What time is it? Wasn't able to watch the live Debrief yet. :(
Oooh, moving to a bigger house? :D
Not at all, at least for European time races. I miss the Friday first practice because on one shows it (I find it on torrents annyways, just to listen to the commentary. Yes, I will extract the audio to MP3 to listen on my ride home)
I live-chat, live time, live-stream FP2 on Friday, starting at 8am my time. I work in IT, so there are no issues.
Saturday I miss FP3 as it's too early. I get the quali at 8am-ish.
Sunday the race starts at 8am.
So Debrief comes before F1 Minute? That's what got me all confused. :(
Apparently, not a bigger studio ;)
Haha! :D
This isn't live though, is it? Looks like it's on a delay, like most US TV shows are. 8 AM ET/PT?
So bigger house doesn't mean a bigger studio?
Can't remember the details but think it's a sideways move?
Maybe nearer to Franck ;)
Or a bigger rock
As was said on Sunday
"we're gonna need a bigger rock!"
Yes it is live. Here are the options and what I actually wind up watching....
8am (live): RDS, (local French Canadian). Actually starts at 7:30 with a 30 minute in-studio pre-race show.
8am (live, option): TSN (local English Canadian, sister channel to RDS). starts at 7:52. Rebroadcast of the BBC feed.
8am (national blackout): SpeedTV (US broadcaster blacked out for all live F1 broadcasts (FP1, quali, race)
11am (tape delay): TSN west coast (+ 3 hours)
2pm (replay) SpeedTV.
I usually wind up watching the live at 8am, then the tape delay at 11 am and then the rebroadcast at 2pm. In between I try to get the BBC pre/post race shows and watch them after. If there is Superbike or Moto GP I get that too.
You live in Canada, I presume? Around Vancouver?
BBC just announced another earthquake has hit Sumatra. 6.8 on the Richter scale.
Yes. No.
Montréal. (they better get that bloody contract worked out or I am going to swim to London and sort out that albino midget!!!!)
So, you missed the SidepodDrinks in July!!
Pity
Drinks? Who said Drinks? What did I miss?
I was in Montreal for the weekend in early July, around the German GP I think
I got our hosts to broadcast it on a show too
The Chinese camoflage their tanks with weird colours. Turquoise and lilac???
You need to get yourself on the SidepodListener's map sir
http://platial.com/map/Sidepodcast-s-Listeners/594335/
or
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Listener+Map
Either I missed it or I was not listening properly. Sometimes thos early morning commutes are not done at 100% lucidity.
Is this code? ;)
Well, I was there and had a shout out organised beforehand, nevermind. A lovely city
Was quite vocal in the comments at the time
BBC2 is showing the ceremonies for the 60th anniversary of the coomunists taking control of China. They have the leader in a car driving past a whole load of military hardware. Most of it is in reasonably sensible colours but some of it is weird. They have missile launchers in 4 shades of blue that look like some hippy painted them.
I can be quite ignorant in my listening! :-)
:D Mao would've found that odd...
That'll learn ya! :D
Anyone who wasn't colour blind would. I guess anything other than green would have been odd to him
Halfords ran out of greens and browns?
They have a nice arrangementof a batch of green and brown followed by all white and then some of the less obvious camoflage colours then more green and brown. I think they may have used an awful lot of green and brown paint.
Time for bed.
Night all.
Me too
Night Steven and those that are still around
night all. I see they are announcing the 2016 olympic host city on friday. I LOVE olympic announcements.
ALREADY? That's sooo early. Normally they do it 6 years before rather than 7.
Oh the International Olympic Committee... the only organization that is more crooked than the FIA.
I really hope Rio gets it.
Oh, hello everyone.
london was announced in july 2005 which i only remember because of the bombings so its been more than 4 years so they are right on schedule it seems.
It'll be close, but Obama in Copenhagen will tilt the balance for Chicago, I think. Brazil has too many events too soon (with the World Cup in 2014 also there), so the IOC might decide to space it out.
Beijing was announced in 2000, though. I guess they've decided to adjust the time.
i was shocked to see madrid in the running because barcelona doesnt seem so long ago but it actually was!
most people think they'll end up a distant 3rd behind chicago and rio because the 2012 olympics are in london already. the US has been a more recent host than spain, though - with atlanta 1996 after barcelona 1992.
It just might be my bias against the city of Chicago. Actually, going back to Tokyo would be neat.
Tokyo won't make it for the same reasons as Madrid, I think, with the Beijing Olympics having been so soon.
chicago would be good for me, going to am olympics is on my must do list and id like to go to one in am english speaking country. London is too soon so i wont make it there.
too bad sydney came too early for you.
indeed, it would have been so easy but i was still at school!
note to self: am comes before an in the predictive dictionary
Actually this reminds me. Since we have the Vancouver Olympics next year, I need to see if I can get some figure skating tickets for my mom for her birthday. I might pick up some hockey tickets for myself.
the good thing about japan being daytime for me is if there are any announcements the uk might be asleep and i wont have to be woken by text messages. I laugh at @noblef1 announcing renault announcing there will be an announcement about when they will be announcing their drivers
That's just silly, isn't it? :D But it seems they will announce a driver lineup before a team principal recruitment.
next week for driver announcement. I want to know now! Seems all the f1 boffins say kubica
From JRobertsF1:
BOO Fuji and FOM!
They may be looking at getting Kovalainen if they're unsure with Grosjean.
Oddly enough, this means that the first F1 race in HD won't be in Abu Dhabi - except that Japan will be the only one to see it live...
Morning Everyone...
Look Happy Kimi: http://cdn.images.autosport.com/editorial/1254327455.jpg
Wish it was bigger.
ahhhh thats the photo that f1 racing photoshopped! Scarred for life!
What did they do with it?
they put alonsos head on kimis body and roberts onto alonsos
:D why wait for january when you can photoshop it now?
Trying to get ready for tonight, and remember everything I need.
For those that get upset when I wear trousers some of the pictures on the drop tonight may cause trouble ;)
Okay I think I'm ready... I have ticket, tie, jacket, battery backup for iPhone live commenting / uploading video... I think I'm ready :)
Not good news - just a week after a typhoon brought the most rainfall and flooding in decades, a supertyphoon is forecasted to be hitting the country this weekend. :(
That's no good.
There's a chance that the eye of the storm might miss us, but it's so huge that some of it will hit us anyway...
Guess what? Mr and Mrs Obama and Oprah are practically going to shut down the city!
Most famous president of the world + most famous media personality of the world = no surprise.
Crown Princess Mary refused an interview with her though.
And the news is unwatchable as the media fawns over the Obamas - should we be thankful they have blessed this little country with their presence?
So tonight I'm going out to the RAC club this evening to have dinner with Stirling Moss and Murray Walker. You have to wear a suit and tie to go into the building.
It's going to be seriously posh. Not as posh as the time I had dinner at the
Houses of Parliament.
Morning.
Aren't you always wearing a collared shirt though? One step away from suit and tie, or am I too casual here? (Still wearing short sleeved shirts BTW...)
I don't think it's a bad thing - Obama, for better or worse, will probably be the symbol of this generation.
Mind you, I think the IOC will fawn over them as well...
*VERY jealous*
I am, although I wouldn't get away with a blue short tonight.
Or even a blue shirt ;)
Did you see that at the Goodwood Revival the only way to get inside the Paddock was to dress in Pre-66 attire? Very cool!
That does sound posh - as part of my old job I visited the Houses of Parliament in NZ but never ate there!
I didn't spot that! Cool!
It sounds like the time I went to the Sherlock Homes society vs the PG Woodhouse society cricket match. They all dressed up in the garb.
I have had dinner at the Members Lounge, Parliament house Australia a couple of times. I don't even own the right clothes
Can I just say, I don't like JV, but he talks a lot of sense in this article...
and likes to quote Rihanna song titles, I agree with the last part of the article regarding PK.
fernando says "i want to finish my career with ferrari" hmm i seem to remember a certain finn saying that a few years back and look how that turned out, mr alonso!
I think if things don't work out, his career will be finished...
wait until the end of next season. you know how it went last time he had a team-mate who was competitive.
What about the quote that there are no strong characters and that everyone's too friendly?
Except this time the team will be behind him and not his teammate ;)
dont know if i would agree with that, massa is a huge part of the ferrari fabric these days
The way the team are with Massa, I think it will be hard for him to integrate.
Massa may well be a Ferrari boy, but considering the fact that the team have been trying to court Alonso for some time, I think they will be going out of their way to make him happy...
Agreed. I would say that Kimi and Lewis while strong competitors will be far less explosive than Alonso and Massa. We know they have had big arguments before (Alonso and Massa) and I think Alonso will find Ferrari have a lot of love for their little Brazilian.
Especially now Dyer is in charge of engineering rather than being Alonso's engineer. Massa will have Rob and Alonso will have a newer less plugged in engineer...
#MFC Lists on twitter coming soon... Here are all the F1 people you follow, here are all your friends, here are all the... etc
http://blog.twitter.com/2009/09/soon-to-launch-lists.html
I prefer to see drivers being friendly off track. There are Strong Characters though. Alonso, Massa, Hamilton, Webber, Barrichello.
I was in agreement with his POV on PK. The other stuff is standard JV talk.
Didn't he once call Button a weak team-mate in a TV interview?
Whoever takes him on, needs to get a replacement driver for Monaco. I don't think he did well there at all.
Is this the same functionality as Tweetdeck?
Morning all
Basically yes... But you don't need an application obviously it will be built into the site.
Sounds good - as long as it doesn't induce the Fail Whale...
Morning Jon :)
Hey RG - Quadbike may have scored Geoff WIllis :)
Morning All
But don't you all love the excitement that comes from watching a driver go up to another looking like they're going to knock their block off? Remember Senna? Them were the days! ...and they were less likely to say 'for sure' like all the drivers (including Lewis) have a habit of today. I'm sure somebody could put together a track of all the drivers saying For Sure from their interviews.
Indeed. It's no secret that the Grands Prix normally chosen for the BBC Classics are the ones where big rivalries have been involved...
Well the last time I remember was Alonso and Massa arguing in Italian. Luckily since Renault haven't been doing so well they haven't been in that close competition so there isn't much chance of the two of them getting in each others way... Oh ;)
RealBrawnGP have a "For Sure" championship this season - and Felipe Massa is winning it. :D
I also remember Alonso rooting for Massa to win the title last year. ;)
Amy, you'll love this tweet from Mr Noble:
I was being sarcastic, of course. :D
I think he was really rooting for the non-ron dennis team but yes I don't think they are that big rivals. However I do think there's big potential for flair ups next year between the two of them.
Excellent. Can't wait!
Amy news:
Kimi Raikkonen cut through the McLaren garage on his way through to the pit lane. Maybe he thought it was 2010 already
http://twitter.com/NobleF1/status/4520530971
I love that :D
Also:
Heikki Kovalainen has just had a long chat with Bob Bell in the paddock. Wonder if there was any talk about a race seat for next year?
http://twitter.com/NobleF1/status/4520535533
Has Amy just paid off Jonathon to follow all her stories :)
:)
I like what Renault have done to get rid of ING. http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1319249
Classy - Black and Yellow Car?
Maybe not: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1319242
Kimi! http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1319247
That's just like my Mighty Blue and Yellow T-shirt ... except it's different colours!
Alonso on his relationship with Massa:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79080
with his tweets from today, i have forgiven noble for his fuel weight cheating.
Renault to announce driver line up next week?
http://www.itv-f1.com/news_article.aspx?id=47042
That is a very good point about Fisi at Ferrari. I'd forgotten about that, Alonso and him always got on well together.
If Massa can't compete, then they have Fisi. The Renault winning partnership!
Did anyone get a Wave invite?
Not me guv.
lots of drivers at ferrari who speak italian!
Nor me :(
except when fisi beat him.
but agreed, good point.
nope.
Yeah that didn't happen much.
doesn't tweetdeck already do these with "groups"?
i guess it isn't public, but it doesn't solve my issue of not receiving the full conversation.
it will.
lovely.
oooooooh! i forgot!
An F1 race at a normal time finally. Shame me and F1 aren't talking right now.
Ruben's thoughts on the Alonso move.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8284248.stm
If Kimi goes to McLaren as we believe he will, both McLaren and Ferrari have possibly the strongest lineups in years. 3 World Champions between them as well as Felipe who could have so easily been one of those three.
The thing is you do insist on this old fashioned "Application on desktop" model. I want the website to do this for me.
There's going to be a lot of live streaming tonight!
hehe. i'll be right here waiting for yoooooooou...
live commenting I mean... I probably won't be able to stream video or audio...
I'll put up tons of pictures on the drop though
fair nuff. i'm assuming there will be streaming from the pub afterwards?
*justpassing*
they have Been doing that for quite a few years. I guess the fact people are only noticing now shows how behind we are with HD in this part of the world...
TED NEWS... Apparently there are now team orders at red bull...
and
LEE NEWS... Apparently Glock isn't well.
I don't know... I'm going to a different event than the others... I'll have to see if I can meet up with them afterwards.
too little, too late.
#sorryrg

I've seen the clothes, I wonder what the car will look like now.
awww.
I am watching DTM because it was what was on when I turned on my TV and the first thing I saw was Anthony Hamilton. I really cannot escape his stare, even in other forms of motorsport :(
He's holding out for more cash?
I always enjoy seeing Kimi wearing black *drifts back to 2005...*
....I could be a while.....
....
........
this calls for the 2005 season review I think :D
So, I am off work unwell today, but talk about something to cheer me up, I got this email from Steve:
"Anyway, during my frequent visit to the Sidepodcast site, I've noticed that you are quite a Franck Montagny fan. Interestingly enough, I've just returned from the Petit Le Mans race with a story and a question for you.
While at the track on Friday, the series hosts an autograph session with the drivers. I made my way over to the Peugeot table to get Franck's signature. When I got up to the table, I asked Franck if he had heard of Christine from Sidepodcast.com. I don't know if he had been hearing your name from other fans that day, or is a fan of the show himself, but he immediately looked up and with a smile said: "Yes, I know Christine...on the internet right?" The driver next to him (Lamy?) then immediately started teasing him.
As he was preparing to sign the Peugeot poster, I requested that he sign it to you. I've attached a photo of the poster showing where he wrote "To Christine, big kiss!". I then asked if I could snap a pic w/my cameraphone to send to you. As you can see with the photo I've attached, he was very happy to oblige."
*faints*
Great Comment from the end of the thursday press conference:
don't get up, you'll just faint again. That is so cool!
That is awesome - hope that makes you feel better :D
Love it. Who needs characters, when the F1 drivers get on well and do things like this.
I'm not suprised :)
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its like: reason to get a blog number 421. You become "Christine...on the internet"
I would like to be known as this from now on :)
:)
this might call for a t-shirt...
is it possible that we can all marry franck please?
It's how I refer to you when I mention Sidepodcast stuff to Mrs. Goat :)
is this some sort of purse? or pillow? whatever it is, Lou will want one.
Link fail?
Me first.
works for me
works in all 3 of my browsers. :(
I get a string of text...
well here she is with it in a different location :D
Thanks - that worked ;)
It looks like a pillow I think?
soooo weird.
If its a cushion to sit on theres a few rude jokes I could make but won't as there are ladies present!! ;)
ooh ooh ooh its Catherine!
I think if I was her I would tell people my job title was "professional Finn follower"
Are Kimi and Heikki being dressed by the same person now?
Yes Steve Jobs!!
I've never seen them in the same place at the same time......
....
oh. Yes I have. There goes that theory.
there is one way to tell the difference one of them has a hat (or that one of them is faster than the other #sorryamy)
How rumours start? Example 2: Adrian Sutil to leave F1
One has a really large forehead...
You know who's going to rehash that joke as fact, don't you? ;)
I can't think he'd go to GP2 from F1, that is going backwards.
My expression is like this one. If that was a macro it would say "Kimi is not impressed by your humour"
;)
Kimi has too nowadays, he is just hiding it under a mighty cap.
Lets just say 1 of them will be driving a McLaren!
Shame there aren't three cars per team, they could both drive then ;)
Doubt it-Any suggestions on who would seat a third car?
Morning all.
Now there's a thought. Growing one's hair longer is a regular gambit for men with receding hairlines...
In other news, Amazon are discounting my booky wook and it isn't even out yet!
http://tinyurl.com/ydamye3
Any suggestions for who would suit a third car?
or shaving, which he tried last year (didn't work out too well) #sorryKimi
bargain. have pre-ordered.
can sidepodcast schedule you for a "meet the author" chat upon its release pls?
I was not a fan of bald Kimi. I dread the McLaren haircut.
I have pre-ordered
i may have picked up a copy of another book whilst in amazon...
Eurgh TOO SLEEPY
Of course. You know where I am, etc... Just stop me from apologising too profusely about it being in American!
Ron is gone – has he taken the Follicular Optimisation Matrix with him?
ooh good point. I await the Martin Whitmarsh era of hair freedom!
Good news for Lukeh :) Rubens will be in F1 next year, where is still open.
Forgot the link: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79088
Kinda yay.
:)
you know that moment when you walk into your bedroom and realise an entire bottle of fruit juice has leaked on your bed and now you have to wash the duvet cover, the duvet inner, a blanket and both sheets?
That was my moment just now. :(
i.e. You wet the bed! No need to make excuses and stories!! ;)
Cool - what cars are featured in the book?
its at the spot where my feet go! and if you sniff it, it smells like pineapple :D
(to make it worse, I am thirsty and I was looking forward to my juice :( )
That's not apple juice ;)
Why did you leave it on your bed?
When I got home from work I dumped my handbag and my shopping there but I'd already had a swig and I mustn't have put the lid on right :(
Oh no! :( Has your handbag survived?
If it makes you feel better, I was supposed to meet someone and I slept right through my alarm.....
Bah... I can't believe that's the 4th item in 2 weeks I should've got on time and haven't got/gone missing. The Royal Mail are really starring to grind my gears. 2 items I should've received last week still haven't arrived, and even with Recorded Delivery there seems to be no record of them!!!
grrrrr Royal Fail grrrrrr. :(
Boo. My comment on James Allen's blog is still moderated, after others were greenlit :(
Let's hope it's not hair today, gone tomorrow!
Ta! Only 5998 to go before they reprint, then. Mind you, they haven't even finished designing it yet...
James Allen fears you. ;)
it did, thankfully :D
ahh it's very clearly a Thursday!
Oh god I forgot it's a thursday. Thats why this is all happening!
I'm just working up the courage to ring them to apologise. I'm unsure about whether to be truthful or make some sensible reason up. To make matters worth it was an interview thingy. But they're pretty desperate for my help so I'm pretty sure they'll let me go another time....
Couldn't help myself...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/fail-jpg
Royal Mail are a pain. I've had stuff on amazon lost for days and days. They need to get their act together. I'm pretty sure they're still not all finished their strike action.
I think that might be treason.
If anyone has commited treason, it's them for their sheer ineptitude despite their name!
No kimi news yet?
And does anyone know what we are supposed to wear to this lecture?
A tweed jacket and a monocole!
Oooh... Other books are available on amazon as you rightly point out... like this one: http://thebookwiththemissingfirstpage.co.uk
;)
Helpfull! Im no professor giggles! :P
only Kimi news is "I might not stay in F1" which is LIES. LIES I TELL YOU.
BOOOOOOOOO
Awwww noes :(
It runs from the Alfa 158 (the car James photographed is one of only two left in the world, and is the one Farina won the first world championship F1 race in) to the MP4-23. In between: Maserati 250F, Lancia D50, Mercedes W196 Streamliner, BRM P57, Lotus 49B, Lotus 72, Tyrrell 003, Brabham BT44, Tyrrell P34, Ferrari 312T2, Williams FW07, McLaren MP4/4, Leyton House CG901, Jordan 191, Williams FW14B, Ferrari F2000... er, I've missed a couple out.
One of our posties is innumerate (ie his method of determining which envelopes go through which doors is entirely random) and he's not above forging signatures on recorded deliveries.
It was pretty relaxed if it's the same place as the last one... I was wearing a collared shirt but then... yeah...
I think Bassano was in jeans and a t-shirt as was Mr C. They may have been slightly under the dress code of the average in the room, but they weren't the only ones by a long chalk.
It's only for my motorsport related thing that I need a tie, as far as I know
Sold. I'll put it on my birthday list (will it be out by the end of the month?)
@ByronF1 (dailly mirror) tweete3d this which might mean toyota are styaing
Toyota signed a new deal with damper company Sachs for 2010. It can mean only one thing; we are in for a bumpy ride next season
But then you become all to aware he is a tabloid journo with this ;)
Course Sach do gearboxes as well so maybe Toyota are just CLUTCHING at straws. Geddit !!!
Ah cheers! Collared shirt and jeans....
Well, I'm reeeeeally hungry... and Greggs is open nearby.... I suppose I should put the two together...
Grrrr I'm so SO annoyed about sleeping in. Now it's time for my Italian class. Best not miss that. I'll phone and grovel late methinks.
You should, or you'll feel pastie your best.
That joke is very cornish
We have cake in an hour to celebrate 25 years of a successful project...
Sweet Lord..... Definitely time to leave :P
Wow thats absolutely amazing! Next we will have Lamy on here demanding a blog about him!
Dont blame you!
Wow!!! :D
whoever asked franck bout christine might not know that franck left a msg on christine's iheartfranck site.
That happens to me a lot, i think he has someone to green light all the non controversial comments, then approves the more controversial and intelegent ones himself ;)
But it's not half as bad as some already approved :(
I didn't think Franck would remember.
But everyone remembers Christine ;)
If anyone is interested, there is a link to the other Mr C's book on the right hand homepage sidebar now. Yay for Booky Wooks.
shows how awesome he is ;)
I'm watching 2005 season review and its made me think Button will be champion because he hit the wall of champions in Canada :)
I'd forgotten about that.
Afternoon all
I checked and was like "heyyyy, i dont want to know what his real name is" then read it again and it said "the other"
whoops
Didnt Ide do it too?
:) I think we mighta mentioned if my Mr C had written a book.
Shhh!! :D
Well that theory's gone a bit Ide!
Ate you trying to say ide won't be a future world champion?!
May also depend on when he's up and about, if he's at races (not sure if he actually attends all of them). Quality/availability of web connection can be a pain too.
He's a top bloke.
May have to appoint you as marketing consultants!
thought ya might ;)
but then i'd get someone else to buy it for me, and then cross out all mensions of his real name, if indeed he does have a real name
You couldnt!
Unless it said "Mr C" on the cover which might confuse librarians ;)
Mr C doesn't have time to write books though, homepage comes first hehe :P
You know when you put a DVD into a computer, and it says "do you want to resume from where you stopped last time"....
Well i want another option that says "do you want to resume from where you fell asleep"
True story!
Amy's sidepodchallenge: spend a weekend in Spa without seeing his face or hearing his name.
aha, have fun with that
Eh? How are you going to hang out with us then?
I am going to pay someone to be my full time assistant and enter rooms before me to let me know which direction I can't look. And always walk at the back of the group. Always.
I think you'll find that I usually bring a stand-in to functions. He has perfected the voice imitation, and therefore, you don't have to worry.
phew, hiring an assistant could have got expensive.
Might assume it's an autobiog by the man behind Ebeneezer Goode...
When you said stand-in for some reason I imagined... made out of cardboard.
So Christine if you are off sick there's a key question for you? How many episodes of Friends have you watched?
would likely be faster in a kart.
Hehehe, that would be brilliant!
Actually none, but I have watched Point Break.
Laughter is the best medicine!
Bad news about P Swayze...
So Mr C is not a cockerney, and doesn't have blond hair?
*illusion shattered* ;)
my goal in life is to have a cardboard version of anyone cool. Still not over the envy of my friend in 1999 who had a cardboard Brian Littrell. And when I saw a photo of a cardboard Kimi at one of the races earlier this year, oooh the jealousy. And Kathi's cardboard Heikki at the computer shop. I turned green even though she couldn't take him home.
http://wealthsmith.com/cardboard-cutout.htm
they do personalised cutouts here... just send a photo! http://www.cardboardcutout.net/layout1.jsp?posnName=main&pageNo=0&s0=cat2&s1=&s2=&page=list&list=432&sideList=449
But he is the leading light of this scene, know what I mean? (etc)
oh noooo now I can have a whole army! Bad for my wallet!
You beat me, but mine was in the UK :P
but I'm not :P
backwards then forwards, forwards and then backwards.
uncanny.
Minor issue.... :D
Im sure they ship to the colonies ;)
so when joe mentions our favourite yelling website, do I transcribe as 'Autosport' or 'AUTOSPORT' ;)
:D wow, you are keen!
I would go for caps, but when he mentioned how it started write it normally as people were polite back then ;)
Did anyone see Jonathan's tweet about the rumor of the massive shock coming in the driver market? He's digging further... I wonder what it is?
rubens to presidency
We have celebration cake!
PK to McLaren... You heard it here first! (Renault are their feeder team)
kimi retiring, bruno senna to go to mclaren?
Kubica to McLaren?
jenson to mclaren.
JV to McLaren
that would be a shocka.
That did cross my mind... would be huge!
I think Nick wins :)
jenson to macca makes sense - except for the bit about 2 brits in 1 team.
schumi to brawn?
Oooooh...
Ari Vatanin to Brawn
you're going to make Lou cry ;)
ms cant beat jv in the shock league.
Most of their sponsors would probably like it though
Ide to McLaren?
I'll join that :(
someone on twitter said kimi to renault.
I've been predicting it for weeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkks
he is german. and popular. and used to driver for mercedes.
;)
Is there an engine supplier they can get that runs on awesome? Rubens qualifies for that more than german :(
i do not like these 'anyone else but kimi to mclaren' or 'kimi to anywhere but mclaren' stories. Stop or I'll cry :D
WEEKS! (I can't even remember what that was from but I know it was here and I know we laughed and I know it was Mr C)
nick, not so sure if theyd be cool with that. jenson and lewis cover the same market - and jenson isnt quite in the same league as lewis on pace.
This is a little bit confusing!
But i still think he going to macca or they wouldn't have let him take a stroll though their garage...
Indeed, I just want to know whose going to fill the 21 empty seats for next year.
They do, but Heikki didn't really cover any market, so most of the sponsors are focused on lewis, having another brit would compliment that, so i don't think it would be a problem.
nick, didnt ms stroll thru the toyota garage once in 2006? not sure if theres anything to read into it.
Who replaces Santander as sponsor for McLaren?
Looks like vintage day at the 'Ring... http://www.nuerburgring.de/fileadmin/webcam/webcam.jpg
The McLaren garage can't cope with both Anthony Hamilton and John Button.
:)
nick, shame on you! heikki covered the amy market. :p
santander stays, mojoker, wc is why i brought up bruno senna - he's santander-sponsored.
I think thats quite different though, it was his brothers team!
oh god think of the money FOM could save just bringing one camera to every race
It's a costsaving move.
Don't know why but I thought they had signed to Ferrari
they will be with both
nah, theyd just move the 2nd cam to massas dad at ferrari. hehe.
Legard would find commentary a bit easier too "He's staring. Staring. Staring. Staring'
Oh know, ive just realise we may loose the clip of the guy hitting the wall at Ferrari forever after the Brazilian race :(
they'd need two cameras if they were ever to film Daddy Kovy. One extra for the forehead.
Grammar is not my forte this afternoon apparently!
I dont think i have ever seen him...
Ah quick search reveals they will be principle sponsors of Ferrari and on the overalls at McLaren
#MFC feel better Christine... UK Kindle
http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article6856803.ece
he is very foreheaded too. As is his sister
Whooop Whooop!
Yay!
I was about to say the first one makes him look just like an older heikki.
the second one... *scared* Its a family photo!!!!!!
I am not the one who found her on Skype!
You called her?!!!
Are you not friends on Facebook??
noooo! I'm not that crazy. I found more photos though. (apparently thats his brother)
#MFC on fire today... For Premium users Spotify has an offline mode now!
They're sponsoring both.
Hehe i like his flag!
really that was what was putting me off getting it for android... does it work on that too? I loose my data signal on the train...
Do you think otherwise? :P
It works offline for iPhone I know that.
Clearly others are worse than me to source these in the first place, I found them all in the same thread on heikkikovalainen.net :D
You do have to be a premium subscriber though.
did you see the eyetv iphone app mention yesterday alex? you can watch freeview in the garden :)
I didn't... Oooh... I do already use the iPlayer on there though that works very well.
From Joe:
Massa upset, but will not appeal from the looks of it:
Interesting, this. Even more interesting that this comes out at the time Alonso's move to Ferrari has become official, even though Alonso has been deemed innocent.
you need the eyetv hardware, and a mac that's switched on.
Sounds more trouble than it's worth then :(
OK... this is a GMM story... http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/091001075832.shtml
2 reasons: the quotes and OMG THE HAIR
depends, i guess. if you had a mac mini, rather than an appletv, then you'd already have the mini on 24/7 so it's a no brainer.
i'd be tempted to get one and stick it in the corner. it means we could watch freeview, without having a tv. i guess it doesn't solve the issue of there being nothing worth watching though.
That has to be attached to the hat
I want that hair. I wonder how long it'll take to grow mine to that length? :)
he really needs to be told he is not Kimi Rosberg.
:)
Kimi has magic hair. It grows about ten times quicker than normal hair #fact
He's not Kimi Rosberg, he's Kimi "James Hunt" Raikkonen.
You remove Singapore from the 2008 standings and Massa is champion but as I think has been mentioned the results are locked in.
#MFC Top 10 Tech Tips from Tomorrow's World
What's amusing is imagining a world where these things don't exist...
I have no idea what you're talking about *runs*
Yup. Galvao Bueno hinted at Massa visiting a lawyer to examine a loophole, but it looks like that they've decided it won't work.
it's also not really fair, because as has been mensioned before, teams/drivers will try harder/less hard/stay where they are depending on the results, so massa may have tried hard to keep his lead in other races and crashed or whatever. it all affects each other
But you could also argue that what happened in Singapore in and of itself wasn't fair. If Singapore's results were to be judged, I think it would be judged without the wider context of the entire championship. Depends on the judge/jury, I guess.
Yeah it wasn't fair, but it also wasn't one of the teams that was fighting for the championship. If we found out that Heikki had crashed #sorryamy for Lewis then that would be a whole different kettle of fish
That's my issue... I don't really watch any tv which isn't either on the iPlayer or the iTunes store and they are covered already.
The problem is, you can't wipe the race out because it affects how all the subsequent races were run, and therefore those results would become unfair too. Why punish Hamilton for someone else's cheating anyway?
yeah exactly. it's all cause and effect and all that jazz
Afternoon everyone. You all ok?
What do yo think of NobleF1's tweet earlier about a 'shock' move in the transfer market?
Senna or Kubica to McLaren?
also, at some point in singapore massa would've had to pit.
But just allowing a result we know is tarnished to stand wouldn't be right, either, I think. This is a very difficult question.
True but they wouldn't have been rushed because Kimi was behind him.
yeah, and he may have done the same thing, ya never know
but without the manual override being activated, the mistake wouldn't have been made.
if that were true, the team wouldn't have ditched the system. it was fundamentally flawed and would've tripped them up eventually.
maybe in the rain panic in brazil?
It's the same as in football. When a goal that was scored was wrongly disallowed they don't go back and change it. The only fair way would to be to invent a time machine.
Besides, I always saw that race as Karma for Spa, but that's a whole other argument...
And if the wind was blowing in a different direction, and if the world stopped turning and if...
It happened. I saw who won the race. I saw who won the championship.
It might not have been fair, but it was what happened.
I guess so. It's just that a wrongly disallowed goal is an honest mistake. This was a deliberate action.
I know ;)
If they finished 1 and 2 as they were when they pitted, Hamilton would have won the championship anyway.
Does this mean we can go back to 1994 and get Damon his first championship?
well... this was a deliberate action... that got found out.
yes please!
Actually I made a mistake. Massa would have won it ;)
It doesn't matter. In both cases, there is potentially a team who benefits and who gains. The point is, what's done is done and there is no possible wayto change it.
exactly, theres plenty of these examples
Hand of 'God' for example
The two Argentinians who sit next to me taunt me lots about that one ;)
So here's the next question - had they been found out after Brazil 2008, for example, would your opinion be the same? Would the FIA have let the results stand?
yes. renault did not ruin massa's shot at the championship.
ferrari did.
Massa could have come second or third or fourth or fifth or sixth or seventh and still won the championship.
but without looking at ferrari's championship and judging renault on its merits alone, should renault have been allowed to keep the win?
Evening all, in the UK but I am on Japan time ready for this weekend!!!!!!
Who knows? But that is a very good point - and it's because we don't know that the FIA need to implement a clear set of penalties for sporting transgressions - and more importantly BE CONSISTENT with their application.
It's one thing I'd like to see Todt / Ari implement in their presidencies.
that's brave.
oh wait, that's what amy does. :D
I wish I could do that, but there is no way I will be up for free practice this weekend.
Agreed.
i've said before, the plan was actually genius. the only flaw was they got busted. so yes.
shes got this race easy!!!!!! its 10:30pm here in the UK at the moment, wierd!!!!
fair enough.
oooh who are these chancers?
http://www.wikio.co.uk/news/Alex+Andronov
Of course!!!
Did Hamilton crash his car on purpose? No!
Did Piquet ruin Massa's Championship? No!
Did Ferrari persist with a faulty pitlane system they knew would cause problems? Yes!
Did Ferrari's error in the pits cause Massa to lose points? Yes!
Ferrari, and only Ferrari are to blame for Massa losing point in that race!
Also remember the way they got the hose out involved personnel not wearing the correct safety gear, yet that was never addressed by the stewards. Should we retrospectively ban Massa too?
exactly.
Same question that I asked Mr C, then: without looking at ferrari's championship and judging renault on its merits alone, should renault have been allowed to keep the win?
have you been googling yourself again?
It's only cheating if you get caught?
Yes, although ferrari would probably have done what they often do and won another dishonest world championship.
The only way that it could have been resolved fairly if it was discovered before the following race. Anything after that makes the championship a joke as you are penalising people for other teams actions way beyond there control.
but I miss practice :( which I know you UK folk face every Friday if you have no internet access at work but I'm not used to it!
I never want to miss an opportunity to plug ;)
There is a very simple retort for those sort of taunts...
They should be made to return the prize money, which should be donated to a road safety charity. I assume that was part of the punishment already.
What happened cannot be changed, and if we assume Alonso is innocent we cannot change the result.
I've seen that Toro Rosso have apparently confirmed their driver lineup for next year, but all I can find is GMM related articles, anyone find anything else?
i've no idea who they are, but f1 minute is there too. must be some aggregator.
Which is? 2002?
Nothing I've seen, but that's what I was certainly expecting, and probably many others too.
There is still that persistent rumor of Loeb driving a one-off at Abu Dhabi, though...
No KFC?
Maybe we should cordinate a replay time? watching on the web ala sidepodfimclub?
Not football... but it might be going to far depending on the context...
"In case you didn't know, there's no change in our driver line-up, so no story there."
more than enough for gmm to create a story.
http://www.tororosso.com/Season/2009/Japan/News/Musical-Chairs/
no :(
I see the news story we were discussing this morning has been solved. My arm hurts.
Found something :D http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2009/10/10021.html
That will do for me.
Thanks Mr C :)
For reference I don't bother with the vanity searching... But instead use this: http://www.google.com/alerts/ Which collects any new references to whatever you're looking for and e-mails it to you once a day. It's quite random but good for finding blogs that link to you but don't pingback. Obviously you can search but it's harder to find the new ones
tis okay. i'd figured as much.
Nothing to worrry about then!
*friendlyarmpunch* ;)
I know what you mean now - and I won't go there :(
Hey - no one tell Christine...
But Girrafes are the new pandas.
http://bit.ly/JacGu
*ducks*
How do you do that?
Hehe, i never realised they had fury lips!
Do people take notes at these lectures?
Yes.
I use the linked site: http://www.google.com/alerts/
Do i need to take some paper and a pen then?
i was thinking that, i may take my mp3 player, it has a microphone in it
I didn't take any notes at the last one.
Yeah I saw that - Would I just ask it to search for 'Making Up The Numbers' in 'blogs'?
Write things out, and then leave them in a drawer for years.
I think there should be a full video replay http://www.playitback.org/
You could put in "Gavin Brown" but that's less likely to work as well for you as it does for me. you could put in site:http://f1numbers.wordpress.com
fine :P do it your way ;)
currently i have:
- sidepodcast
- f1 minute
- christine blachford
should probably add:
- christine... on the internet
I was thinking of blogging it, so notes might be usefull... but iwould need to take a bag.
I would use notepad on my phone but that miight be seen as being rude
:)
Yeah I did that for 'blogs' - three alerts: 'Making Up The Numbers', 'What Gets My Goat' and 'RubberGoat'...
I've updated 2010 grid blog post (not sure why I'm blogging about it ), but I've now included links. http://f1loonie.wordpress.com/2009/09/30/13-2010-grid/
Yay :)
Are these things smart-casual or smart smart? I forget
Tweed and monocle apparently...
Definitely.
:D
:)
Buy a lickle notepad from Supermarket, cheap. (Other stationery providers are available).
Can you type/write that fast on it?
I'll get my suit out then ;)
So the monocle can fall from your eye when you are shocked.
Fast enough, i generaly only make 1 or 2 word notes and if i write within a day or 3 thats enough to remember the rest
I think i will be rocking a shirt (collared dontchaknow) and jeans
me too, sorted
Where are you going?
Will there be food? Food is always a deal breaker...
surely a tie rolled up in pocket, just in case?
i would look quite rediculous in a tie and jeans ;)
http://events.imeche.org/EventView.aspx?EventID=664
Oooo. Interesting!
Who's the lecturer? Sounds like the guy doing KERS for Williams.
Jon Hilton founder of Flybrid Systems and former chief engineer at cosworth
I am going to a different motorsport related event this evening and I will be rocking the suit and tie option it is required at the RAC club donchaknow.
I am going to watch Murray Walker interview Stirling Moss. And there is a meal too.
Right gotta go, speak to y'all later.
we need yourself and nick to use latitude, so we can watch where you both are in london.
It won't work all the time because of the lack of background processing :(
However I have got latitude.
yay. nick?
eeek!
Can i turn it off if i turn it on?
Know where you are going? hope so, ive just txted andy...
i dunno. alex?
Not sure how it works on android... I have to actually open an application to make it work. And as far as I can tell you have to set up friends to share it with... Mr C check your e-mail.
No chance this is going to work is there:
heh no...
Huh?
is it an embed?
Have e-mailed... it's an iframe.
What was I thinking, "yeah there's no chance Mr C would just leave an exploit on his site that would allow any commenter to redirect anyone to anything".
bugger. will FBFB it later.
Sounds good... The real annoying thing about the no background apps thing is that I can't live comment while it updates... Have visions of live commenting from the back of a cab!
It also has a KML or JSON feed
ooh, integration time. i wonder what we can do with it...
you have x2 phones?
Stupidly not with me...
ahh. you need to meet up with nikc in tha back of a cab.
Ok i think i have activated it... what do i need to do next?
I might turn it off as i dont thik i want to tell the world where i live just yet!
http://bwana.posterous.com/google-wave-to-posterous
It soooo unfair!
Here are the approximate locations of where I'll be and where Nick will be tonight
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=116373756310680724149.000474e05bd3cba14e700&ll=51.504055,-0.132222&spn=0.011647,0.021608&z=16
Any Emerson Fittipaldi fans around?
http://mantovani.zip.net/images/fittipaldi72_wall.jpg
There are two things it seems... One the ability for your device to transmit to your friends on Latitude (of which as you've only just worked out what it is you probably have none).
And then there is a second thing: http://www.google.com/latitude/apps
Where you can turn on the ability to share your location in public... Be careful with this you want to turn it on when you are happy sharing your location and turn it off before you go somewhere where you would be unhappy sharing your location...
On there you can find the embed code and e-mail it to Mr C.
email us the iframe code and we'll embed it later.
i've seen more exciting demos!
right, I need to dash.
laters y;'all
ooh, close together. And then you can go hang out with the Queen by the looks of things too.
Very nice. The world in black and gold as it should be.
I was assuming that she was coming to my dinner!
I have never heard of Matt Beer but how can someone who writes this badly get a job with AUTOSPORT??
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79085
He writes a lot of the second string articles. Eg. He "wrote" the Alonso rehash of the Ferrari press release yesterday
well with Murray Walker, Stirling Moss and suits and ties (and Alex Andronov) I can't think of anywhere else she'd be instead! Sounds super classy.
I feel snubbed to be in brackets ;)
it started out as a list of people that you will be there with and then I decided I felt rude to leave you out but I was not sure if you could be there with yourself.
I have never noticed his name before. Clearly he has seen a press release and turned it round in 30 seconds without engaging his brain. Looks like an online translation of the Ukrainian or translation by someone who doesn't have English as a first language. Either way putting it out like that is pathetic.
But via doohicky, latitude and drop.io you're all coming with me :)
Ok will do i dont think it works untill i start maps anyway ;)
i heart technology.
Don't worry we all know that you live in the McLaren Technology Center. Just like we know that Amy lives at the Australian Grand Prix
Not fair sounds like it will be a good talk. Will keep an eye out for the playback of it
I live in the third garage from the left and I bathe in the lake.
Do we need suits and ties to read your coments?
I think you might!
Don't forget your monocle!!
An new old fashioned program: Do not adjust your monocle
Anyone seen these plans for a new circuit in Holland?
My dutch speeaking isn't up to scratch to understand it... aka I don't know any of what it aays :)
For a second there, I thought I saw Flavioland.
Hehehe! Looks odd to me. Is it on an island? or something?
On a serious note, not too impressed with the initial layout. It looks familiar, though. Where have I seen this before... Was it in GT4?
ah, update from a dutch friend
They want to build some sort of race park with circuits for powerboats, motorcross, an oval and lots of other things and it'll be build according to FIA regulations, so they could organise F1 races.
I've just been updating some stats and have discovered that Timo Glock has completed more laps than any other driver this year!
There are a lot of sites carrying the story. There is still a great circuit in Holland that had to stop having a GP due to complaints about noise if I remember correctly. Zandvoort is/was a fabulous track designed by John Hugenholz who also designed Suzuka. A bi like Tilke but with a brain.
of course, I have now jinxed that. #sorryRG
A quick babelfish translation suggests they could be ready to hold a GP by 2012.
Time to head to the evil outside. Back in a couple of hours.
Portimao for me is more deserving and more likely to get a GP first.
We don't know anything about this track yet beyond a sketch
They won't though, they are in Europe. Bernie doesn't like Europe anymore. ;)
If Valencia keeps having empty stands and lack the necessary support, it can be dropped for Portimao.
Once Ari gets in Bernie's days are numbered.
Exactly. Portimao's been around a while and the racing hasn't been half bad.
IF Ari gets in.
Lots of GP circuits have great racing in other classes. That can't be taken as a guide.
True, but can anything be worse than Valencia?
I'd rather have Imola back, haven't seen enough of Portimao.
I think it is looking a lot more promising than it was. South Africa is trying to pull the whole of Africa behind him after Todt made some stupid comments. Saudi Arabia has a lot of power in the Middle East and Ukraine is trying to pull in votes from Eastern Europe. I think it is about to get interesting.
Valencia had really good GP2 races, so they say :D :D
All street circuits should be banned. They are utterly pointless.
I bet Formula Fords are great round Valencia.
I'd keep Singapore along with Monaco obviously, but thats it.
I am going out. You can't make me stay by posting comments.
That is good news, indeed. But we have yet to see if it's enough, and if Ari can get the moderates in Todt's cabinet (i.e. Boeri and Craw) to quietly switch their support.
Agreed.
Singapore is Valencia with a glittery backdrop. It does nothing that a race circuit should do. Monaco will stay on the claendar until a car goes into the crowd and kills 60 people then they will decide it is too dangerous.
If that's the case, Singapore's more likely to stay on the calendar than Monaco.
Regardless, for all of the race's boredom, the circuit pays its fees to FOM and is popular to fans who watch it live.
The Abu Dhabi circuit just released a commercial on CNN. They do race updates in their commercials. Post-Singapore commercial mentioned a bizarre rumor of a seat swap for Heikki and Rubens. That's freaky-bizarre.
paul di resta deserves his f1 break. discuss...
*spits drink out*
Jonathon Noble's twitter hinted at a big driver announcement for next season - maybe that's it?
Maybe THAT'S the shock rumor Mr Noble was referring to?
that's because its new and unique. If somone else like hongkong did a better street night race, noone would to to Singapore
My thoughts exactly. But wow, that would be BIZARRE.
preposterous!
Hehe Mr C :D
Surely Macca come off better in that deal?
*blink* *blink*
But when HK tried to do it in 2000-ish, they couldn't pull it off. And I honestly think that Singapore will out-organize HK - I'm basing this on what I saw when I visited the two regions. I wonder if Wolf would agree.
So... amy goes to south wales, I go to melbourne?
I could do that.
I concur!
Turning on maps/ latitude
For a single season. If such a deal were true, both would only be 1-year deals, I think.
I could accept Rubens. He would be the only acceptable non Finn.
Would provide an interesting secondary storyline behind Kimi vs Fernando. Felipe vs Rubens...
Di grassi? :P
I don't want Heikki at Brawn :(
#sorryamy
It'd be like... like not having mint sauce with a roast dinner or something. It's simply ludicrous!!
not at McLaren, but just randomly wwalking around in front of camera, yes.
no mint sauce with roast = ultimate roast.
I wouldn't want Heikki @ Brawn either! I think one of the reason's both JB and RB have done so well this season is how hard they push each other.
Ludicrous!!
Train arriving. Don't know if you can see me. Now to meet the guys!
No roast potatos = joke roast
I wouldn't want him at Brawn either, I think it would make his rep even worse #sorryheikki
yes. potatoes = good. mint sauce = bad.
You mean Hamilton vs Alonso, no?
Y'know... I kinda wanna see Villeneuve get a drive next season...
Oops, yeah, that one. :D
Hello everyone, been lurking between sleeps as am off work sick again. I think someone's been reading our conversations again, we were talking about Kindle/Sony Reader yesterday and now msn have this
The internet basically reads Sidepodcast and steals our comments with articles and stuff. Too much evidence. ;)
I think that's the reason it's so hard to leave. Doohicky is the center of the internet.
I read recently that there will be a new author writing the next installment of the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. I suspect he will have to change the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything from 42 to the Doohickey.
Ahem, I mean Deep Thought will change the answer.
It also bends time, this article says that the average Briton is online 30 hours a week. I know it is 100% fact "for sure" I am on Doohickey 30 hours a day.
oh I was so excited to be doohickeying I forgot the link. Just take my word for it.
We have met!
pictures or it didn't happen!
I am blogging a bit too much at the moment, but fueled by the discussion on circuits from earlier, http://f1loonie.wordpress.com/2009/10/01/14-the-ideal-race-calendar/
pinger 1 - james 0
;)
:)
By 5 seconds. close stuff :D
Anyone good in Brazilian? From f1brazil on Twitter:
Williams veta participação de 14ª equipe no Mundial de 2010 http://migre.me/857z
Not that it'll probably matter (if USF1 do indeed not make it), but Williams just love being the spoiler, no?
Also, Suzuka has renovated their paddock to be at par with Fuji. That's excellent news. Brad Spurgeon approves.
Portuguese ;)
Yeah, yeah. :P
Friday morning already, and still no FOM Singapore videos - not even the onboard. What gives? :(
they've always taken a bit longer with the back-to-backs this year
but it's the FIRST race of a back to back. what's the holdup?
also, the onboard is usually out by now, at the latest...
Put through Yahoo Translator
Williams vetoes participation of 14ª team in the World-wide one of 2010
Williams vetoes entry of 14th team for 2010
The C's aren't huge fans of translators, which is why I'm asking if someone knows the language. But the title needed no translation - Williams, veta and 14 said it all.
Good at Portuguese, MoJoker? Any idea what the article says?
Damn. Was hoping for 'Williams say Rubens is not joining 14 times in a row to shut up the media....veta'
Using Google Translate (Sorry C's!) the gist of it is that according to an interview between Williams F1 and german motor magazine, Williams feel that since one or more teams will probably not make it for next year the question of allowing 14 teams should not come up.
Blimmin heck, does anything exist that Williams cannot veto?? I think their right to veto should be removed, they obviously can't behave responsibly with it.....
So they think that USF1 and Virgin won't make it, leaving a 12-team grid.
So USF1 might only have a windtunnel, but not have the equipment to produce cars? I'd find that surprising.
Now, let's see if an article comes out with a translation close to what's written here.
Didn't EJ (who invented everything) mention them on the Red Button Forum in Singapore, regarding them stopping teams increasing the thickness of the brake discs from 28mm to 32mm next year?
There is only one way to solve this:
FOTA: So Frank, all the team principals want to go the bar...
Sir Frank W: I veto that. I want to go to the restaraunt.
F:But we've all agreed? We all want a drink...
FW: Veto. I want some food.
F: OK then, how about we go to both?
FW: Veto. Only one choice is acceptable.
F: ...We want you to join us.
FW: I don't want to join you......damn
Brilliant Lukeh! :D
Fiiiiiiiiiight!
Yeah he did. I'm sure I remember other examples as well. It's pathetic. I don't understand. They're vetoing on the basis that there won't be any need to even talk about it. But if it's a pointless discussion, why bother to veto it. Having a grid slot would let ex-BMW make some proper plans for next year. You can deal with other teams dropping out later....
I have heard that too.
I think sometimes you need a team like Williams who are willing to stand against the tide. For example, by restricting the number of teams, the share of money per team would therefore be increased. For a team like Ferrari with the support of Fiat and major sponsorship deals, moneys no problem but for new teams and privateers like Williams, every little helps.
But to veto for the sake of vetoing? That's what it seems like to me.
Meanwhile, a new Abu Dhabi commercial has come out. It now says Kimi's going to McLaren. I may have just misheard the last commercial. :D
Maybe when I go... I should go like this:
http://news.slashdot.org/story/09/09/29/193234/A-Geek-Funeral
http://www.flickr.com/photos/26445696@N04/3961372582/in/photostream/
And with still no video on F1.com, am off to sleep. Good night.
Night!
About 20 years ago when I was studying spanish I could also read and understand Portuegese and Italian.
But that was 20 years ago ;)
Ooooh also I actually remembered to go to my Italian class and I stayed awake throughout. I'm really proud of myself. I feel I'm making a lot more improvement now. I think everyone should learn a language!
Are you tracking us?
I'm not sure we can yet...
Anyone have a record of the things they have supposedly vetoed? I agreed with them when they vetoed Schui getting to test this year as the teams didn't do that for any of the other new drivers!
I know (to varying degrees): Perl, C, C++, Python, Ruby, and Java :)
Mr C hasn't put the embed code in yet as he's v busy
:)
Been coding in Perl all day!
Perl was the first language I got to know pretty good. I don't use it much anymore, as I've switched to Python for most of the stuff I used to user Perl for (systems administration tasks, etc.) (Also add PHP and Assembly to the list :) ).
I would probably switch to Python but we have too much Perl to do it quickly. We're probably putting off they inevitable though. Mr C doesn't like Python for some reason.
are we not a priority?
:P
your call is important to us. Please hold ;)
Boooo no tech talk in here :(
There's no tech talk... honest ;)
You're talking about knitting?
Knit one Perl one. We're making a Pyhon out of knitting... Well Crochet really :)
At this current job I'm not writing huge applications, just automating tasks to help me out, so it's fairly easy to use whatever. The other developers are supporting a HUGE codebase of coldfusion. Luckily I don't have to use coldfusion at all, Just maintain the servers.
(heh heh he jpancoast I think I've got away with that one :) )
errr... uhhh... uhmmm...
I hear Kubica's gonna drive for Lotus next year! *runs and hides*
What's that got to do with knitting ;)
Keen knitter is Kubica.
Hey everybody.
Hey RG!
I don't know! I froze! Too much pressure!
:)
:)
You were a jpancoast in the headlights!
sorry all. having a busy day.
find people: http://sidepodcast.com/playground/location.php
It's okay Mr C... I told Nick that his call was important to us :)
This is just giving us a perfect opportunity to spy on them now isn't it.
true story.
Hehe cool.
but I'm sorry Mr C, I know what Christine will say, Homepage! :P
Yes it is... Right...
I'm going to jump in a taxi now, see if it works :)
i've been a bit busy.
When I say now...
...hold on.
i forgot the confidential tag, didn't i?
Yep :)
Today we had a massive cake at work to celebrate 25 years of a successful project. I have drop.io'd the pics. It was a sponge cake with jam and cream covered in marizpan. It was so massive that after 2 helpings for all 30 of us, half of the cake was still left! Really yummy though!
Cake 1
Cake 2
Pfft.
I thought you said the cake was "massive"! ;)
Ooh I bet it atsted pixelated-y.
Well, maybe not massive by American standards... ;)
Yes it did ;)
Had to cover an obvious logo...
:)
Congrats, though!
Cheers - I have had absolutely nothing to do with it, but the cake was nice ;)
Right I'm in the cab now
As you may or may not know... we are here!
Your moving! yay. :)
w00t!
2nd place!
all of ya?
woohoo
It is slightly weird tracking you.
are you in a pub then?
There should be an in car pic on the drop
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-261
Nice shoes Alex ;)
I can see a foot ;)
heh. Frayed shoelaces and everything!
Not much going on now. Stuck on strand. There seems to be quite a bit of traffic in London at rush hour - who knew? ;)
Another shot on it's way to the drop nelson's column is in the shot but there's too much light to see it.
Am now thinking its nelson piquet's column....
:)
Have arrived. Have dropped a video of nelson piquet's corner and a huge stretch limo I found.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-263
you likes to travel in style.
Hellllooooooooooo
hey, jackie.
Talk about London prices £4 a pint! Cor!
Hiya, how's you? .. I'm knackered
have dropped that too.
.. and comfort eating, got a bowl full of macaroni cheese yummy
we're tracking alex and nick on various excursion in london:
http://sidepodcast.dev/playground/location.php
how comes you're tired?
Hey Jackie and hey everyone.
LOL age maybe. I dont sleep well so then I go to work tired, come home even more tired, still cant sleep. It's been a vivious circle all week
hey dan. would you pay £4 for a pint?
Sidepodcast.dev?
wah, I can't get that last link to work
You been 'alf inched guv'nor!
hehe. you can't see that can ya?
http://sidepodcast.com/playground/location.php
.dev is the test machine. soz.
Evening. You're making me miss London what with the going places and stuff.
Hi Dan
Let me convert it... $6.50 for a pint of beer... depends on the beer.
Nope! I was about to say that it wasn't working but that makes sense :P
now that's clever
I've just roamed across London. Have found out that the nearest cash machine is back near nelson piquet's column.
where are the two of them off to?
it may have stopped updating?
alex is meeting murray walker and nick is meeting a man who makes kers.
No beer for Alex :(
if it's a ING machine then it's fate :)
the ticket is up on the drop.
Jealous .. thought about doing the Murray dinner but decided it was too expensive
I love this sort of thing. Virtual stalking. Makes me feel like I'm in a spy thriller.
Actually, if I cost it out, that is about the price my homebrew comes out to. After buying all the ingredients and little bit through equipment.
I'm finishing my £4 pint first :)
Picture on the drop looks like you've already drunk £2.00 worth
Hope you both have a wonderful time
ooooh.
it is too expensive. But this will only happen once Stirling and Murray.
:D :D :D
Stirling as well .. wow
all done now. As a given fo the whole evening evidence will be on the drop :)
Looking at the dress code, will we get a picture of your cocktail dress?
Is Alex also book signing?
:)
I'm putting my tie on now! (well I'm commenting now but you get the idea :)
Is Kat going too?
Just in case you need help: http://folds.net/bowtie/
I love the page heading
"Location
Positioning Stuff" Stuff if wonderful
this may need a guest post, to tie it up nicely once you're done.
:)
Just looking at that latitude program, amazing what it can do
sounds like a plan :)
if you set it up, we can add you too.
Video on way to drop :) tie and all!
on move again
What does that require? One of those fancy iPhones or Google whatevers?
Right I'm at the RAC now. Still a bit early.
- Android-powered devices, such as the T-Mobile G1
- iPhone and iPod touch devices
- most color BlackBerry devices
- most Windows Mobile 5.0+ devices
- most Symbian S60 devices (Nokia smartphones)
Absolutely.
that's hardly discussion
you need to write a blog post to convince us :D
I'm not really here... just thought i'd mention another photographer replied to my email today :) am still buzzing that i have a little email from Lorenzo in my inbox though :D
Trying... not... to... spend.... money.... eeeeeeeee......ahhhhhhh...
Thanks
yay!
Is that good? (soory for being dumb and having no clue who he is)
you know you want us to follow you ;)
soory .. and I am sober too
Then the question won't make any sense
I've spotted Muzza!
w00t
ask him if he knows christine... on the internet.
Lorenzo Bellanca is principal photographer for f1 racing, plus he was honda's main photographer for a few years.. he's one of my fav f1 photographers and he says he advise me and help as much as he can - <3 :D
has he heard Felipe baby?
It would be absolutely boring for you guys.
Go you!! :D
you don't know us at all.
Oooh wow, that's something to be chuffed about
There's a new guy writing Douglas Adams' creation. Sense got thrown out of the equation the moment they announced that. ;)
Dan, we're the people who watched someone putting up blinds, we'll watch anything
All things considered you've had a fantastic year Lou
Quite right too. Everyone should learn lots of languages
very blurry pic on drop
it's been such a strange year if i'm honest... i mean.. there have been the horrible horrible things but then there have been outstanding, incredible, breathtaking moments that just make me be so pleased to be alive really... cheesy as that sounds...
I don't know if you guys subscribe to Breaking Auto's twitter feed (http://twitter.com/breakingauto) but this made me laugh this morning.
"Ferrari's engineers eagerly await study of Alonso's eyebrows to power new KERS system in 2010."
No need for a discussion
That's great. You are a success at getting replies.
He is always in F1 Racing. Not Darren Heath but the next best
and Stirling
we need a blog post, you have been volunteered :D
Just had a look at them & started following, this made me laugh: GREEN TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT: During the 2008 season, all McLaren tire warmers were powered by Nicole Scherzinger jumping up and down.
i used to like Murray but ever since Goodwood i love him even more. He met my recently widowed Aunt ( :( ) and mum at the end of his book signing, and my aunt explained all about my uncle and asked if he could sign this book for her step brother. Next thing my mum and aunt know they are sitting having a cup of tea with him chatting and things. He gave her a massive hug and was so lovely to her. She said he must have spent 1/2 hour chatting to her. Such a nice man.
I could see the point if they were doing another film using the characters like James Bond but it makes no sense for someone else to write books although I think he is only finishing a book Douglas Adams started for now.
still nothing from jules (grr) but Lorenzo makes up for it :D
"The High Court has given permission for an injunction to be served via social-networking site Twitter."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8285954.stm
#mfc
That's weird
How can they even be sure the guy's read it? Doesn't seem very fair. If you get a lot of followers, you probably stop reading all your messages.
good point. at least email has some form of read receipt.
Me and Murray on drop
I saw this linked in AUTOSPORT today. No-one likes team orders but unlike F1 drivers some rally drivers make their feelings clear.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayYz-i_Bsv0
nice complexion: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-272
oh, you mean this one: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-273
i am sooooo jealous right now.
But you woulda had to wear a suit.
ahh, yeah.
And he would have needed to have finished the home page
and we could have never seen any photo proof :P
I love how Murray's face just lights up whenever there is a pretty lady next to him.
me too
erm... so... what's that strange helmet shapped thing Jessica has been photographed with today? and
where can i get one.. why has she got it?hehe. i saw that. odd.
she seems to be showing it off a lot. i mean it's nice and all.. but if it's a pillow or something, why take it to the race track? is it just in case the race is boring?
More coming now and some video
#sidepodspace
Great new pic of the Apollo 11 landing site. You can even see where the astronauts walked on the blow up.
Evening
Hi Pat
Coool.
As you stalkers know I am on the train home... or am I?
Talk was really good. Some interesting phillosophies, was more opperating procedures rather than technical.
love it: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-4-69
not the pub?
It's over already?
was quite short interesting info though. Current f1 flywheel is under 15 kg amongst others
where's everyone else?
heading. Home
boo. thought you'd hook up with alex and get all kinds of drunk.
what kind of entertainment do ya call this?
;)
No sidepodpubbing till stupid o'clock in the morning?
no-one left wandering around at 3am?
what about fp1! that would mean you'd be up at 3am and missing the f1!
oh yeah :)
s'alright, it's not like you run a site dedicated to f1 or anything :P
I may have hit a diversion ;)
Ah yes, F1. I hear this Jenson Button guy is leading the championship. How about that!
Jenson who? ;)
Hey, I resemble that remark.
Oh noes. I'd forgotton about FP1. How stupidly early do I need to get up?
ah I'm sure you'll hear more about him soon... :P
FP1 starts 01:55
FP2 starts 05:55
lotsa 5's going on
speaking of Jenson... i'm upset that Mr C thought that he may possibly go to Mclaren. who would think such a thing :( and then follow it shortly with 'schumi to Brawn'
But how do I sleep? What are people doing? Napping in between or sleeping now or.... I'm so confused. I thought I liked early morning racing. I think I decided that before I realised practice existed....
It was a terrifying few minutes :(
if i had a naughty step mr c would be on it ;)
am sleeping asap.. (once i get work done) then sleeping in between, then going to school.. then sleeping very very early when i get in i should think. It's going to be a hard day tomorrow :(
And then it was followed up by the sheer GMM-tastic Heikki swap with Rubens! heikki! Heikki! Rubens! Rubens!.... Rubens!!
Oh I think I need a lay down
If I watched it I would sleep until midday and get fired.
Is there anyone here who knows there is a race this weekend?
i have a lovely mum that wakes me up... plus if i watch fp2 then i'm already up at the time i'm meant to be up for school anyway
Bed at midnight and up two hours later followed by a quick nap between sessions
i do! :D have been looking forward to it for ages... PLUS that's were Lorenzo emailed me from! (have i mentioned this already ;) )
Are you planning on spending the weekend Lorenzo stalking?
So I heard recently Lorenzo emailed lou
See I really can't do that.... I have problems getting back to sleep once I'm woken. I kinda get one shot at sleeping per night. With that in mind, I should probably try to get to sleep pretty soon.....
why would you say that? ;)
you say it like i don't stalk him normally ;)I can't wait till you open your inbox one day to find an email directly from jenson and his website or something ;)
ahaha i'd need to set up an iheartjenson.com website first surely?
twitter injuction?
Paper AUTOSPORT arrived today, and there was a track map in it (guess who does the 'lap with' feature..). Seeing the circuit again - and in today's photo gallery on their website - has got me really fired up about this race. I REALLY miss Suzuka!
I'm sure this comment will be referred to in the future now you've mentioned that :P
sad but true :(
I put iheartjenson.com into Bing & got 2 results - iheartfranck & a comment on SPC from July this year. Looks like it's free then ;)
Janna did you end up listening to the album after? I wasn't sure whether to ask with your general feeling ill-ness...
oh... no... i didn't mean i would....
You're going to have to now! ;)
:D
Chris, last time you said that, she got the photo with John. I forsee the outcome already in this situation!
but.. i... no. it's fine...
I've not listened yet as I keep falling asleep when I'm listening to my iPod & I want to give it a proper listen. Dr told me not to go into work for next couple of days so will be off tomorrow as well. Hopefully will feel a bit better and will let you know when I've had my first Muse experience.
Although in this case there has been less altercations with backs
who is he going to
punchpoke this time? ;)That's true...
Sounds good to me, I'd recommend waiting until you were a-ok as well :) Hope you feel better soon!
Any suggestions?
Thanks, that said I've had my cold remedy drink so am off to bed. Comment with you tomorrow
erm.. i wouldn't know who you could punch... plus i don't want a domain name ;)
Domain name? ALEX!!!
no i don't want one... i really dont.
Did anyone else miss when it became proper winter again? I went to get some FP food out of my car boot and it's pitch black outside! I swear it's still supposed to be semi-summertime :(
I love how cold it is outside tonight. I have a wintery breeze coming through my window and the trees outside are going brown and gold.
I looooooooooooooove the autumn and winter!!
I leave my new job at half six each day. I'm going to need a torch by the end of the month...
it's not winter... it's autumn. i was born in the autumn, therefore it can not yet be winter. :)
(not here, stupid maths homework)
I'm not a morning person, and I hate it with a passion when its cold in the morning.
Even when it's a beautiful blue sky with not a single cloud, and there's that lovely cold crisp feel to the air?
god I love it. It actually makes me happy on the way to work to be in mornings like that.
yeah i love the winter too. warm jumpers, fires and blankets is the way to go :)
I wake up, and like to snuggle up in bed wrapped around my duvet, then I realise I have school, then I get all miserable about having to get up in the cold and then I hate it.
Hehehe, aww. Poor RG. :P
Duvets are one of the greatest things to have in the winter to be fair.
I am the same.
Because you don't have to be outside in it?? Even work might be better than freezing outside....
Basically, I want every season to be spring. Since I hate the sun as well.
I'm not picky or anything.
But I'd go from a cold place outside to an even colder place inside with my job, as I usually work in freezers anyways. It's just lovely weather when it's like that!
I want to it to be as it was on Saturday. Sunny, warm enough to feel the heat of the sun, not hot enough to burn (but only just), a bit of a cooling breeze.
:D
Hehehe are you secretly me?
I've been linked to being lots of people around here, I sometimes doubt I am myself and not just someone else altogether.
Right first two corses over. I've spilt gravy on my tie. More pics on drop.
I want to see the sun at least once before the year is over. The sooner global warming gets here the better.
:( :( :(
I now know you are trying to kill me.
One of the questions in the English mock i just had was ' "I can't wait for climate change to come" Argue for or against this statement' I argued for and the teacher called me mad.
* checks the drop*
... Giggles and Murry Walker?
yep, the BBC got rid of legard and brundle
*Murray
I'm on it. Apart from the hooking up part!
Nice! Who's the technical expert? Murray?
Well, we know Alex is quite smart.
I hear he knows a lot about suspension....
:D
evening :)
The second you came on, I was expecting that...
I often find myself having to defer to the inventor of the Bell Crank Bob Bell.
Reet, gannin back to homework, you orrible lot distracted me ;)
EJ would like a word with you
excellent. I am the second youngest person here. The youngest, a guy called Rory, I told about Sidepodcast. I've done a fair old bit of plugging of the site :)
:)
I am trying to save me from freezing solid
sounds good to me!
Typical. All these people who argue in favour and 99.9% of them have no idea that the most important factor on climate change has nothing to do with the Earth.
Except for suspension and bellcranks
I'm sitting next to one of the stunt drivers for the James Bond films.
I refuse to believe it. It must be a conspiracy.
he's been the only one so far who's known what a podcast is. His favourite team is Brawn and he doesn't want Rubens to go to Williams. Reminded me of someone ;)
:D :P
tell me you've sold a few books too?
I should have been born in a nice hot mediterranean country.
I believe I should say oi! But I'll wait for Steven Roy to decide and then go with whatever Mr C agrees with ;)
I belong in Scotland :( I've never met anyone else who's been hospitalised with heat stroke in Brittany.
#sorryalex
not yet. I'm on a Sidepodcast and GP+ tip tonight :)
don't be silly ;)
amazing.
Brittany?? Is that even possible?
I'll cry....
That's good. The tears evaporating will cool you down just like sweat. Just don't cry so much you get dehydrated
:D
I would just like to point out that I was not the person who laughed.
Evening all!
You're all big bullies!
evening!
oi!
hey jono.
ooh, a free 'o'.
oooh thats spooky, you can call me Jono, its generally my main name :D
I'm at the table with this photographer: http://grand-prix-photography.co.uk/
LOOOOOUUU!
wow!
hi! hi... hi... i'm here... *runs around in circles* what can i do from here? :(
am very jealous Alex. say hi from us :)
Hi Jon
Who is the photographer? I don't see a name.
Is this one you emailled?
nope.
*acknowledges various comings and goings while I was twittering*
Lou e-mailed all of them
Fresh approach then!
I think you mean not yet
They haven't even replaced the default "About" template text.
:)
mum has surprised me with the chance to go to brands this saturday so i can get some photos of the BTCC... i know nothing of BTCC but i've had a hard week, and saturday entrance isn't very expensive so i get some photo therapy to ease the strain of the week :D i love my mum :)
I am sure Alex is on the case and plugging Lou's flickr account. Best post the link Lou.
ahaha! no all of them :( just a few :) and then a few more...
How awesome!
Cool. Not just photo therapy but racing noises therapy, which is the best there is.
You will enjoy that. It will be packed though so make sure you arrive nice and early.
awesome! brands is great for photos, go up to the hair pin (druids) and go over the bridge and take pics from the inside there, they have really low barriers so you can get good shots from there. ooh and its a GP circuit weekend too, which means GP magic woooo
hehe indeed :) i don't know much about brands (been years since i went there) so it's just going to be a nice day relaxing and enjoying motorsport i hope :) plus Quali being in the morning helps too :)
If i take pictures with my phone and make car noises in my room, will i feel equally theriputic?
depends if you live stream it or not ;)
Try it.
well i'll be up for quali so no doubt we'll leave just after that finishes. we only like about 30-40mins away so hopefully that will be early enough?
ooo. cool. will do :)
Evening everyone. Hope you're all good!
F1 quali should be done at 7am or so.
There is an event timetable via this link (go there then get the PDF), and that says the first cars on track are the Ginettas at 9am.
Dave Airston is the photographer's name. He didn't want me to say his website because it wasn't ready.
They said they were having some issues recording at the beginning, so i recorded it too! However, it's very quiet, so headphones really are advised, and if you can open it up in audacity and turn it up internally aswell, that may help....
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/nowthatswhaticalservice-mp3
Hope it can help someone
Does he need an apprentice>
it looks like it will be great :) i'll keep an eye on it (have bookmarked)
Does he need 2?
There's plenty on during the day so there's no need to rush there.
It might be cool to get shots of the F.Renault drivers (on track or not) because they will hopefully be stars of the future!
Are any of you crazy lot doing an overnighter for FP1 and 2?
me.
:) I'm tempted. The whole working from home scenario makes it very tempting....
i'll need to do some research into who these people are... or just take a photo of everyone..
ooh. i shall listen. have you tried levelator jon?
http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator
I would, but I've got work at 9. *makes a note to set the freeview recorder*
depending on what time i go to sleep i may just wake up for FP2 :(
If you want incident photos, wait for the Renault Clio's. They usually are all over the place. Massive accident at Croft I remember.
Depends if I can be bothered to get up at 6, and the answer to that is no :)
Of course
The program should explain who is in what car and what the championship positions are.
I watched the Clios go into the first chicane at Thruxton a couple of years ago.
About 12 cars going into a gap with room for 5 max. Brilliant carnage.
I'll be up at 6. Stocked up of bacon and coffee especially...
A few years ago I used to keep track of the series... then I forgot all about it.
You can probably forget about the backmarkers ;-)
Good plan, that man. I usually don't bother because I'm not sure I can squeeze it in after work, but Suzuka after a 2yr break deserves it.
At Croft they somehow managed to crash on a straight. Which was interesting.
I'm starting to get sleepy. This is not a good start....
ahh clever..
Same here... SHOO SLEEP SHOO
:D
It's on my list of things to do when I win the Lottery. Looks like a bloody good laugh if you ask me!
Clios are mucho fun :-)
I was there, mayhem
okay so i have to finish this essay on Germany's Weltpolitik asap so i can get some sleep... hopefully i'll be around for FP1! :D and if i am hopefully i wont be as dazed and confused as i was when i woke up and commented for one of the early season races. :) night all! x
I'm listening to Mr C cook on Sidepodradio....
I have one question and one question only....how on earth did you survive on your own?
I watched them in '08 at the 'complex' at Thruxton.. 40+ of the new spec car, utter madness!
See ya later, night :)
see ya lou
Night Lou
bye!
Evening all. Just back from the big city. DIdn't meet Murray Walker, but I did meet Jon W and Nick.
Heh, does anyone here listen to the F1 show podcast? It involves 2 feckless American guys who truly understand very VERY little about what's going on. They seem obsessed with awarding each other glasses of coca cola as prizes.
I started listening to it when I knew nothing about F1. It didn't really take very long before I understood more than they did, but now I'm finding it oddly addictive. I really wish I didn't because it's horrendous!
Evening
tweeted my this week, first i've heard of it.
Which is arguably better!
Of course :)
Hehe they sent you a tweet? I'd be surprised if any of you could sit through a whole episode. They really are feckless. Think Legard but American and a lot more confused.
more confused?
Ouch. My brain.
Yes.
wow, i must listen
This sounds like a challenge
You won't like them. They're being rude about Rubens at the moment....
I think i listened to them aaaages ago, i think i go irritated very quicky
I don't like them.
Errr yes, I wouldn't be surprised. It's like a guilty pleasure.... I like it because it makes me feel superior. I think if I understand what's going on better than you do, it's a sign to stop broadcasting!
Who are these people so we know to avoid them? :-)
There's very few F1 Podcasts I can listen too - really only SPC and the BBC sport one.
I think a lot of it is that I love this sport, and like to think I know a lot about it. Listening to other people bumble their way through stuff drives me nuts!!
SPC do a cracking job.
Train wreck. I couldn't stop when I first heard and cheered when they said they were stopping. But, they came back. Somehow, I kicked the habit.
Can we get a link so we can all enjoy this?
I am in an I hate Audacity mood. How long does it take to make an mp3?
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!
At the moment....about 2 weeks for me!
Errr I use iTunes for podcasts. I'll see if I can find them. It's called The F1 Show. They don't seem to plug a website very much. They make a lot of noise about a facebook page....
It looks like it is only working as long as I look at it. If I go away and come back the timer has barely moved.
Yeah, I used to listen to them too.... Used to.
I only make wav files on it. I use Mixcraft 4 to make mp3s, and that takes about 3 mins to make a 1hr20min file
I managed to record a whole podcast's work of audio (almost not sounding like Alan Partridge) editied to 20 mins of audio then managed to delete the lot when adding music as a bed.
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!11
Patience is what you need. Or a faster computer. Or save the file as a wav and then use an external converter like LAME.
Oh here it is. You can all revel in the joy http://f1show.com/
Did anyone notice that I didn't recommend a Mac to fix Steven's problem?
If you search for F1 in iTunes and then click 'show all' in the Podcast results, you'll find lots of podcasts to listen to. F1 Show is (undeservedly) at the top with Sidepodcast.
There are so many to choose from now! I'm looking at Renault TV (bottom) now. I feel my time slipping away from me....
I was about to say that Audacity dosent work on Mac, then realised it does
Indeed it does. :)
http://twitter.com/thef1show/status/4448727932
Ok.....about to listen.
How long before I turn it off, having chewed my own ears off?
I save everything constantly.
Hehehehe when I first tried to learn a bit more about F1 in the off-season, I subscribed to a lot of podcasts (including that one and SPC) I know it's awful but I can't stop listening.... It's train crash podcasting....
Words will be had. In my office... now!
I am using LAME. Normally it is fine but tonight it is living up to its name.
No
I haven't heard the most recent one.... "Enjoy" at your own risk!
I can't believe they listen to this podcast. Can you mock them on air? :P
I did it about 30 minutes ago and it worked fine for me?
That could be tricky. Anyone know how long it will take me to get to Jeremy's office from Milton Keynes?
Right... I'm gonna go watch Scrubs for a few hours, then return at half 1ish hopefully so see you guys later!
Could take a while if you use the M25
Like Adam Curry?
British Airways flight 7372 leaves soon from Heathrow (thanks flight tracker widget). In just 24 hours, we could be enjoying a chat in sunny Sydney.
Except I'm off sick today and the office is closed tomorrow. DeLorean?
ahh, man. haven't heard that name in a while. is he still going?
Pea pod podcast crash?
And on that (awful, awful) note, night! lotsa love.
night rg.
niiiiiiiiight mr rg
Getting.Bored.Now.
Probably. Switched off a long time ago. Just realised I have been listening to podcasts for 4 years now.
night RG
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/29/sidepodradio-part-11-the-cooking-show/
listen to this instead
Who is he?
Just exported the same file after a bit of noise reduction and if I watch it it takes two minutes. The first one took more than 20 while I was doing other things. Weird.
hmmm. i comment as mr. c. now?
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2006/12/31/feeds/#comment-522430
that's not confusing at all.
Capitals?
where did that come from?
Mr C - have you seen this? More MFC than SPC, but interesting nonetheless:
http://buzzvoice.com/
he claims to have invented podcasting, although really he was an early adopter but a very prolific one. self proclaimed podfather. started podsafe audio though, so we shouldn't complain too much.
Exactly!
If it wasn't for him, Dave Winer, and probably some other people, you wouldn't have podcasting. Is that right?
I noticed last night Christine's surname appeared on some comments
mm. you can't comment on pages using doohickey. only posts. so i had to go via yeoldecomments to do so.
have changed the "author" tag on posts, so they're now published as either:
- mr. c.
- christine blachford
i guess wordpress also changes the default commenter name too.
EJ?
oooh cool
You should all the time! I thought it looked cool in Doohickey anyway.
not sure. i think we'd have got there anyway. but they certainly proved the concept of media files contained inside a feed could work.
blimey, no. i look now.
We must be about to undergo some daylight savings adjustment out here in the colonies. The time difference between here and Japan is only 1 hour until Sunday when it is 2, according to the official F1 site's convert to my time button
ahhh. right, must sort that then. rather confusing.
Oooh by the way, i wrote my guest post on the train, but it's on paper (yes paper) so i need to copy it across
oh and it sounded like you could do with a new mouse mat (according to sidepodradio)
*ahem*
;)
you think? upper or lower case?
get rid of the .'s
Out here, North America, we don't do the fall back until November, thanks Geroge Bush!
Can I just point out now how much I love your searchy filter box thingy. It's so useful. Solves many levels of confusion.... :)
hehe. is there a buy now button?
Did EJ invent Katie (Jordan) Price's alter ego or hire her because of it?
like this?
umm, no?
same here!
dunno, personally i prefer 'me' but i don't mind
how does i purchase an item from your establishment?
That's better!
should we take a vote?
You're really not at all change averse are you? It's scary!
if i was you i wouldnt ;) they don't work with all optical mices :D however, the coasters work with all glasses and mugs and cans of un-named energy drink
:)
has giggles taught you nothing?
You have to go to:
The Maldon District Tourist Information Centre is situated in Wenlock Way, off the High Street and close to Butt Lane Car Park.
Butt Lane! Ha!
Just imagine what poor Christine had to go through to get him to move to the other side of the rock
Just that it is potentially quite confusing for new commenters who listen to the podcast to come on here looking for the Mr C off the podcast ('cos they can see who Christine is).
Although... I do quite like 'me' as well.
everyone should buy one, they just shouldnt shout at me when it dosent work!
outside??
easily pleased ;)
but yeah, or email me and i'll sort it out, or do it through pay pal, i really should sort that out
i just can't decide.
Welcome to my world. I can't do decisions.
im adding an online store, as we speak!
what would Fonzi (or Jebus) do?
You could always use Nigel.
What has my dad got to do with this?
Scarily, mine too!
I would say he's quite obviously the man off the podcast. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not but....
Nigel No Friends?
When I said Nigel, I nearly wrote another name. Then I realised that would have been a mistake.
Well yeah. I may not be the best person to ask because I think I commented before I listened..
Are you still tracking me on latitude if you ever were? I am heading home
interesting. how so?
I mean I think some have been initially confused before.. but it doesn't take long to realise. It just looks good in the 'name' bit of Doohickey.
yup: http://sidepodcast.com/playground/location.php
i'll try for a day or two.
Ooo....sorry to derail the conversation.
Did you see Massa went Karting today?
apparently alex is still eating / drinking.
We've had the discussions about the other community Gavin and I were with. He told me about how I'd like this other place (here) oh and by the way they also have a good podcast. Me being me, quite used to jumping around forums and the like, I just read the comments for ten minutes before saying hello, same as ever..
I'm a bit worried that this is bordering on the obsessive.
media|future|change
why wouldn't we want to stalk commentors?
aah, so you were stalking us
We stalk everyone else.
ahh, cool. :)
yup. although we were expecting a visit to the pub afterwards :(
nah, we went before
Just looked at Renault TV podcast about Penrith. Boring.
I commented before I listened to anything as well
Hehe any chance you could stop! ? I'm heading home!
you don't want me to add remove it from the site surely? can't you just stop it.
was assuming it would be like qik. always embbeded and live when you choose.
did you go for a mammoth drinking sesh?
i always assumed it would be the other way around.
And pictures no doubt. Sorry about that.
Indeed we did. Then a very pleasant walk down past Horseguards Parade and the back of Downing St
I just learned something from these guys everyone is slagging off. We get number 27 on a car next year. I hadn't thought of that before. First time in quite a few years.
You're still listening? I wasn't slagging them off. Well I was. But I continue to listen so....
yeah, i havent been down there before, was lovely
I might be being daft here, but is 27 significant?
Just turn your phone off.
Hahahaha do neither of you know how to turn it off?? That's epic.
I was spamming the internet with posts for people to write stuff in support of Brundle because Max was suing the Times about a column he wrote. Alianora mentioned the site to me in the first place.
:jawdrop:
Yes
I presume it is because of a conversation I managed to start yesterday about people bickering over numbers.... But it's a bit over my head too.
um, how?
*hides in the corner*
Picolo Canadese (sp?)
Blimey no idea how it sounds but I got away with recording most of that. Only upset that I didn't get away with saying, "question fro
sidepodcast when I asked my question".
Maybe you need to listen to the F1 show to find out....
27 was the number Gilles Villeneuve carried for some of his greatest drives. The only number in F1 history that is actually associated with one driver is 27 with Gilles and he only had it for less than a season and a half. Tells you what some of those drives were like.
Probably most famously by GV. Alan Jones also drove it to a world title , as did.......Senna? or was it Prost
Unfair. It's just an age thing.
i do, but i don't intend to add/remove it every time.
Red Five?
Mansell.
Perhaps, sorry. I'm too young to have seen it properly too though. The only time I saw 27 race was Alesi or Berger in the mid 90s, it didn't mean anything to me at the time.
But number 5 is still there and no-one has ever said 5 is Mansell's number. The first time 27 appears on track you can bet the commentator will mention Gilles.
Just about to say that.
I remember reading how much it ment to him when whoever had that number in Indycar let him have it in '93
Unlike the red 5, 27 has been on a number of quite famous cars
Unless it's Legard of course.
What about 0?
Nigel is being greedy. Needs a number and a colour!
Did Shumacher ever drive 27? It's the only driver he knows...
Jean Alesi's one and only win was in Montreal in 1995, in a Ferrari, driving the number 27. Needless to say the place went nuts!
When Alesi sorted out his contract mess after he signed for Williams, Tyrrell and Ferrari for the same season he begged Ferrari to give him number 27 because that was Gilles's number. Alesi was just a fan that could drive. His helmet livery was a straight copy of Elio deAngelis's as a tribute to him.
Is Fernando Alonso mad? and why is Autosport still quoting Briatore?
If ferrari get third in the championship, who gets red five? Alonso or Massa?
I don't think so. By the time Schumacher came in teams were obliged to take number from FOM / FIA, which is established sequentially
on a side note, I have been car 0. In rallying, it is the final sweep car before a stage opens. Some people see it as an honour, but a lot of us just see it as a free rally - because you are an official/volunteer, there is no entry fee!
Ooo. Handbags at dawn I reckon.
:P
For anyone who doesn't know what Gilles did with number 27 I recommend this item. http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/02/19/the-fastest-grand-prix-driver-ever/
the highest placed of the two. so fernando.
If I'm honest, it was more a dig at Legard...
No.
Massa wasn't given number 3 at the start of this year though. He put a lot of mildly upset quotes into the press.
I don't know if my last comment came through. Great talk from Stirling and Murray. Managed to record most of it in audio.
:D
I think that's convention more than the rule? My mind may be playing tricks but I'm sure I've seen cases of the lower-placed driver getting the lower number. For some reason Heidfeld comes to mind.
fia ballsup. he drove with the three in melbourne.
got it, yup. cheers sir.
you heading home now?
Morning All!
Villeneuve and someone while at BAR.
pretty sure it's the rule.
hey sir.
who is this Mr C and what has he done with me ;)
hows is everybody this morning?
Alright guys. Time to hit the sack.
I *may* see you for FP1. If not, see you at 6am. Bacon rolls at the ready!!
loooong story :)
I don't think Ferrari are going to be happy about that.... Nor would McLaren thinking about it. I can't imagine them wanting LewHam in their 2nd car ;)
I am in the UK but am on Tokyo time for this weekend!!!!!!
I think that the FIA should hand out the numbers to the teams and then let them decide for themselves who gets which number. Something random like a game of Rock Paper Scissors would be a good method.
he ran with a 22 after disqualification in 2007.
I don't know how to stop it I thought I had! Where am I now?
have removed it, i've no idea. last seen at clapham junction.
I'm sure this will have been discussed already, Heidfeld on 'engine engine number 9'

There you go, Panis (9) and Villeneuve (10) at BAR in 2001. Interestingly the following year they went to 12 and 11 respectively. Even more interesting is that in his 3 race stint at Renault in 2004 he was 7 to Alonso's 8, though that is more a merchandising thing.
That's not what I mean. I just think that if Kimi goes there, they won't want to give Lewis the 2nd car out of the two. He's obviously the future of the team....
I th8ink I have done it now?
This is brilliant!
ah cool. That is one terrifying live of tech!
Sorry

See, I bring Sidepodcast people together, for longer :)
some peeps went to london to listen to a talk on f1 kers, earlier.
I didn't think it was KERS, I thought it was a "what has F1 done for you" kind of thing?
Sorry about that, got a bit paranoid when i couldnt turn it off!
Did it work though? Hope you guys could follow us around! I eventually found the off button in a hidden menu so i think i stopped it!
