It's March already? How did that happen? Not only that but it's Monday as well, meaning we've got to face a whole, brand new week. Pre-season testing is over and done with now, so we are really gearing up towards the season beginning in just a couple of weeks. Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- The second edition of the F1 Digest 2010 Season Preview is up and available and this time we're talking about the teams. Every single team gets a mention, even US F1 and Campos, although there isn't that much to say about them at the moment. We review testing, talk about the launches and the driver pairings, and there are plenty of thoughts about the new cars and their designs. Let me know your thoughts on the new teams over on the thread.
- Mr C has written about his updates to the site which really have turned the site into something completely new. Instead of live updates being based in two distinct areas, now every single page has the ability to load comments without refreshing. Mr C will tell you more in the post, but I can tell you right now, it's awesome and it will change the way you use the site.
- Finally, I would like to plug the latest part of Life in the Fast Lane - my motorsport story. We're onto part 9 and that means it is the final vote of the ten part story. It's the big, important vote, the one that can change the way the story ends and whether there will be a sequel or not. No pressure! I've been surprised by a lot of the voting so far, so make sure you take a look and surprise me once more!
That's all for now, I reckon. Let us know what you're up to this week, and as ever, I will see you in the comments.
Why are you all in yesterday? I thought you would be happy to see the back of winter/be happy to get into a month that has 2 races ;)
Amy, in Britain - March doesn't mean not Winter
Hello, btw
I used to love March. I'm really not looking forward to it. I'm having a spending bootcamp.
I'm gonna catch up on my film backlog, night all
Good night. I am going to watch some of the closing ceremony before bed
http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-usf1-asks-for-delay-until-2011/
Final nail in the coffin?
Wow, this just never stops... I just don't know what to say anymore.
That is just ridiculous. You can't commit to enter one year and fail miserably and lie about it then expect to turn up a year late. Posting a 7 figure bond is not exactly something that is going to commit Chad. He got $1.65 billion for youtube. Kick them out and give the entry to a team that is serious about F1
Agreed
The pained look on Bob Varsha's face when he was reading that out.
I (heart) Dave Dispain
Great rant on USF1 on Windtunnel tonight.
Oooh was there a video too? I'm a flash free zone at the mo
There is a video on that link.
My god, who the heck do these guys think they are. This is absolutely crazy. Jean Todt... stop this NOW!
Can't find a link to it.
This is why you shoot a injured horse...
That the title of my next blog rant.
Missed - I'm sure it'll be found somewhere though
It is on live right now.
I did my USF1 blog rant last week - I don't feel the need to do it again. However, I may refer to USF1, Campos-Meta and Stefan GP in the title, but then just link to an episode of Fawlty Towers
*on a new post that is.
I could see the point if they were changing the management or had found financing too late for this season but as far as we know they have made no progress at all and have no idea how to make progress. The only thing they have is a 7 figure deposit.
I'm calling time on today I think. Might curl up with a hot drink and watch university challenge.
I am surprised none of the tree huggers complains about the Olympics burning a flame for no reason.
Which in F1-land, is not a whole lot
Good night. Try not to work your brain too hard answering the questions or you won't sleep
Especially when they have a billionaire on board
I think Chad is desperate to make his money back. Even if it takes a little more money to make a lot more money.
No chance of that. I don't even understand most of the questions.
Can I have it?
Night Alison...
If you phone them and promise them an entry next year probably but don't be surprised if it is monopoly money
PING: http://www.racingeagles.com/2010/02/this-is-why-you-shoot-an-injured-horse.html
That header is even crueller than the Titanic
I'm waiting for someone to jump out and shout "SURPRIIIIIISSE"
I am surprised people are blaming Max and Bernie and others are saying it is a timing issue. When Peter Windsor who is supposed to be head of he team has no clue what is going on , on his own shop floor the location of the blame is pretty obvious
I couldn't find a decent photo of an Effland chassis.
I don't think he is with the team anymore. I think he jumped ship to take his old job at SpeedTV again.
He is going to be especially annoying this year because of this.
I had one but its not on this computer
Really? How can he question anyone else as a journalist. He will get laughed at if not by the people he deals with then by his audience.
I think he needs to go away for a while. People called me cruel for writing this. I regret the tone but I don't regret the message.
Found a few but maybe not header quality.

Thanks Steven. That first one will be a header next week.
I think your post is fine. I really don't get what people are moaning about. Windsor promised to be more open than any other team and never said another word. They went on at length about Windshear then decided that the car would be 100% CFD. Call me a cynic but it is a lot easier to fake doing CFD work than windtunnel work. They claimed to have three year's funding but in the end they had buttons.
Windsor cannot go back to being a TV journalist because the first time he says to someone that they have underachieved or should be doing better or that he thought they would do better they are going to just pick on him.
It is reminiscent of a TV presenter in the UK. There is a satirical newsquiz called Have I got news for you which was hosted by Angus Deayton. Unfortunately for him the press caught him indulging in the kind of things Max likes to do in his spare time. There are two teams with a permanent captain and a politician or similar and a big part of the show was the host winding up the guest for laughs. He was really good at it but he only lasted one series after his indiscretion because every time he made a comment about one of the guests they turned it round on him. Windsor is in the same situation.
Ilove the bing image search
Actually one of my favourite episodes of the show
:D
Dan I love that title and I loved the blog post that is "cruel"
Here's my response to the latest bit of news from the new teams
http://formula1archive.blogspot.com/2010/03/story-of-usf1-campos-meta-and-stefan-gp.html
There was the best part of a series like that. When Christine Hamilton started having a go you knew he was finished
I think I will treat myself to some Basil tomorrow
Yeah, but it was true - after that, all he could do was shrug his shoulders, because his power of comeback had been taken away from him.
Shatner at the Olympics. That video screen system they have looks like the U2 one
:)
This latest news about the USF1 team reminds me of a friend of mine. He "postponed" his wedding the week before it was to happen. Plenty of apologies to all the folks coming in for the wedding as well as paying out for broken contracts with the caterer, photographer, etc. He said they were only setting another date, 6 months in the future, cause they wanted to it in a Winter Wonderland.
Short ending, 10 years later, he's still single. She's married now to another, much more stable man.
For Christine - though she's probably asleep for the night - baby panda video:
http://video.ap.org/?f=WASEA&pid=DChVb3_NaVTIoJjTXNTfYgw7_brd7MRS
I have e-mailed her a link to this comment so she will see it Eric.
With that it is good night from me.
;_;
Ah well, guess it's back to Force India as my underdog of choice.
I would be shocked if USF1 got anything less than the full Prodrive-style dismissal by the FIA.
back among the living after weekend of house moving, bookshelves falling, ice hockey watching, mistakenly erasing 4 years of gmail emails ... TGIMarch ...
Morning all :)
in my quest to find the oddest piece of media to make me tear up I think I have a new winner:
The commentary on an episode of the Simpsons.
Blimey!
It's the one with The Who and Roger Daltrey was talking about how he likes that when he watches it he gets to hear John Entwistles voice again and I went 'wahhhh'
Ahhh... I see... That makes sense.
My iPhone has been syncing for a seriously long time... I am now officially worried about it.
Yesterday I went hunting for an ad on youtube that made me cry 10 years ago. Turns out it still does. I am a terrible person to attend things in public with.
oh noes! My new desk buddy at work has two iPhones and an iPod touch. I think he would fit in here.
amateur :P
It must have heard me commenting... It's finished now.
good iPhone. *pats*
Has he ever live streamed a video stream of one iPhone from the other?
Somehow I doubt it, sadly
I turned your virtual pat into a real one
I almost had a blue shirt disaster this morning and would have had to wear a different colour except for the hard working diligence of some late night washing machine work! And luckily it was dry this morning.
Phew! Alex in another colour isn't really Alex.
I have worn white shirts to work on 2 occasions. Both times when I have been going to a funeral.
anybody has any idea why James Allen's site consists at the moment of nothing other than blank white screen ?
I give you permission to wear blue to my funeral.
polar bear in a snow storm?
maybe they forgot to pay a bill?
I bought an 'Alex' shirt today but it has little white dots all over. Jeanswest had a sale on and I got three collared shirts ($11.24 each!) and two pairs of jeans for $139 total. I am king of the bargain shoppers.
noted :)
I plan on sticking around another 70 years so you might have to wait a while.
Morning all,
I linked to a post I wrote introducing Fantasy Racers yesterday during Giggles Radio, so if you missed it, here it is again: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/02/25/fantasy-racers-2010-introduction/
Hopefully this will help you with your picks this year ;)
Morning folks,
Just posted my interview with Daniel Ricciardo - now off to work and stuff....
Hooray, etc...
http://formula1archive.blogspot.com/2010/03/interview-daniel-ricciardo-2009-british.html
May be back this evening after work if I can keep my eyes open
Morning guys. Free interwebs on ma phone ran out, so have to use a proper phone!
I didn't put it in today's daily as it's all self-centred links today. Figured it deserved a bit more than a 'by the way' :)
Morning all!! (or evening for some) :-)
No probs ;)
Awesome interview. I love seeing young Italian-Australian's making it in Europe :-) (maybe cos I never could)
I think he is the next 'anointed one' for Red Bull if he has a good year...
I secretly want Hartley to smash him. Which isn't really a secret. And probably won't happen.
Ha!! No chance Amy... Ricciardo is the real deal :-) Sorry to break it to you.
Same here TBH. Although Ricci sounds like a decent guy, it would be really awesome to see a Kiwi in F1 again...
Kiwi?
Bartley's a Kiwi, is he not?
my bad.. I misread. I thought you were speaking about Ricciardo. Yeah, Hartley is Kiwi. Sorry!
S'alright - was a badly written sentence by me anyways ;)
Is James Allen's site down again?
I suspect Hartley will beat him this year, he has been getting better and better, Riccardo will make it to f1, but i haven't seen anything to convince me he is going to be a star just yet
I expect he keeps trying to commentate on the people who are trying to fix it, which might slow them down ;)
Well, I suppose we have another story to follow then in 2010. *watch this space*
Oh no - if you think he will then that's just ruined his chances :(
I think he is yet to explain the problem to the tech guys, because he hasn't gotten through his usual 45min "Lewis Hamilton preamble".
Morning all. I have yet to find welsh cakes in uni :(
ping: http://www.racingeagles.com/2010/03/season-preview-att-williams-f1.html
I think you will like question one Mr. C.
Well - where's the answer?!
I wish I knew... I wish I knew...
Hallo. I'm in my new flat. I want my old one back :(
:D
Does the new one still come with snow?
:(
yes, snow is a basic feature of each flat. But it is soooooo messy. (not dirty messy just messy messy)
Is that your pet name? ;)
Is what in the where now?
white-out
Pet name, term of adoration, that kind of thing. ;)
hehe
If you find a way to solve that problem please let me know!
The only way i can see to fix it for myself at the moment is to move...
Is 'Welsh cakes' your pet name, like sweetie or honey?
Oh, no, they are cakes made in wales made to celebrate St David. How they came to the name Welsh Cakes is beyond me
I had never heard of St Davids day before. Now I know stuff! #learningaboutwelshroots
I think it is now! :D
I was thinking about locking my flatmate out...
That's only fair. Tell them you can't find the key for all the mess.
Can't you just throw stuff out?
Children tend to wear welsh rugby tops if you're a boy or a welsh dress if you're a girl, and there are daffodils everywhere. Plus it's the sunniest day we've had all year so far!
sounds like a plan
urm, no. ;)
Suddenly the fact that my uncles name is David makes sense.
I have to talk to her tonight. Bathroom stuff does not belong in the kitchen drawers.
I can see that if it's not your stuff, throwing it out might be tricky :)
Dafydd! :P
First we had Jonny, now we have welsh cakes, its nickname season!
I could make a joke about gays in the village, but I wont. ;-)
Never mind all that, what is this welsh cake of which you speak? Is it yummy?
the kitchen has 22 cupboards and drawers. One is free for me. I think I'm justified to throw her stuff on the balcony, right? :)
Oh those cakes! Yes they are!
They are like scones but fruitier and tastier. And flourier. if that evn makes sense. They're yummy!!
There is a bakery wgho makes them...
Pray tell, what exactly is a "Welsh Cake"? What makes it distinctively Welsh?
his middle name is Marks and my grandfathers name was Marks as well. Is this a Welsh thing or was my great grandmoth pluralising a name for no reason?
Thankfully my cousins name is Mark because my uncle realised that you don't need an s on the end of your name if you are one person.
You're a baker and you don't know? How did you pass the bakery test? :D
om nom nom. I think I have some hot cross buns herer somewhere......
Mmm, cake. I hope you find some.
Oh there is *plenty* I don't know. That's one of the joys of the job, learning hew things all the time.
Then you have an awesome job ;)
Please understand, I'm of Eastern European descent, also, in the area of the US I'm in, we have heavy German influences. That skews the more regional delicacies I'm aware of.
Ooh really? What sort of things are you talking about then? Can you make any Danish pastries?
All this talk of baking has made me crave an eccles cake
I wonder why danish pastries dont have danish bacon on them...
someone should fix that
Because they are sweet?
Looks like Joe is hoping to do another event before the british GP :)
Bacon is Meat Candy
From my background, mum was Hungarian, here's an example:
http://www.recipezaar.com/Hungarian-Angel-Wing-Fry-Cookies-Csoroge-5140
Cool. My colleague is Hungarian and has introduced us to Palinka, amongst other things ;)
I'll bet it is where you live ;)
Reminds me of Eccles tone. :D
Hello all.
Since your colleague is Hungarian, make up a batch of this someday. Hungarian comfort food: http://www.bigoven.com/163455-Hungarian-Cabbage-Rolls-recipe.html
I bought a grill yesterday, i am so getting bacon for dinner!
Can you buy it in Dubai? Cool!
http://whathappenedinmybirthyear.com/
Takes a while to print out, but so far it looks pretty cool!
It mentioned sidepodcast, what the hell?!
What????
It started off for me:
In 1988, the world was a different place.
There was no Google yet. Or Yahoo. Or Sidepodcast, for that matter.
I just got Google or Yahoo...
I bet it's reading in the referrer site, and adding it in.
Excellent!
That's what I got too.
Then something about.....well, better not tell :-)
Did anyone take Joe's bok for him to sign on Friday?
Joe has a springbok?
:P
Hmm that might be a bit hard to move around I guess.
book perhaps?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/no-google-yahoo-sidepodcast-jpg
We were talking about using that the other day, i forgot to look up if you can turn it off, anyone know if it is possible?
I am really enjoying reading it, Im playing though the EA rip-oof game too, which is also really good
How close is it?
From what I've read, no similarity whatsoever. I didn't like the game anyways. toop clumsy for my liking.
Thought this was a nice Tom Pryce tribute from F1 Badger
http://www.f1badger.com/2010/03/tom-pryce/
Did I ever tell you my brother-in-law's dad stood at that corner and watched the aftermath of that accident? Because they never saw the collision, the crowd had no idea what was happening...
Not very, It has a beginning which is similar in nature but massively different in context.
Its set in the same era, but it has very different characters and focus on very different things.
Id recommend reading and playing at the same time, really gives you a good feel for the era
It took a while to adapt from Assasins creed, but i dont think i have played a game with so much freeplay.
Good morning
Well I was hoping to hold back the article that Steven Roy kindly wrote for us but the USF1 situation will insist on changing by the hour: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=2807
Interesting thoughts
Yeah they are indeed.
Not sure I can agree with everything, but the FIA still look like fools
I Think letting USF1 enter in 2011 is the most sensible thing i have heard come out of them in a while.
It was always going to be chaos trying to get 3 new teams to enter the sport at once, especially with the economy as it was at the time, there just wasnt the sponsorship to go around.
I hope they go get to enter next year, It will give them something to look forward to. It will also endure they come in as a stable team and not one pitching and rolling as would happen otherwise
Im not entirely convinced this Stefan guy isnt just Qadbak 2.0.
I agree, everyone gets to save face here.
Maybe nowadays, but in the old days this was very normal
What is troubling here is how similar they are to an organisation called 'PhoenixGP', which supposedly bought the defunct Prost assets and claimed that because they had a car they had a right to race. Turned out they were just turning up to get the money...
Why would that be any better? USF1 have been around as long or longer than all the others, and have produced nothing. Propping up teams is a bad idea, and will never last.
Because it's now about the FIA saving face and justifying a flawed process, while giving the team a shot at competing without penalising the heck out of them and running them into the ground...
I do not think they should be automatically allowed to enter in 2011 ... they failed once, unlike the other new teams they have been working on their F1 entry for years, way before the budget cap talk came out ...there is no guarantee they would make it in 2011. I think if they can't make it this time then FIA should simply take a note, open the new selection process and do it properly this time
I am afraid that as far as Stefan is concerned, this step from USF1 is the end of their hopes ... if they can't take over USF1 entry there is no other way their entry can get approved by all other teams ...
It is a sound idea, it has just been executed badly. Its not propping up, they wont be paid for 2010, let them enter in 2011 when they are ready
It will be good for the sport to have them there. Far better than Stefan in any case
Agreed. USF1 announced their intent before even any budget cap was announced. Yet those who entered on the premise of a budget cap are still around. What chance does USF1 have?
Good point. Heck, if they did it to Prodrive, they should do it with USF1 too.
Cheers for the compliments folks
I'm going to try and sort out some more interviews with drivers and personnel if I can
:)
I agree they shouldn't get an automatic entry - but they should get deferred....
Its more down to sponsorship.
They should have limited it to 1 or 2 teams per year, dumping 3 in at once was silly.
Will the other teams survive? I expect lotus will be there, but you have to question if the virgin car will be able to finish races
Limiting the new teams does not affect the speed or reliability of them though?
deferred till when ? they should either show up with the car in Bahrain, sell it to whoever (Stefan in this case) or give it up. If they give it up then there is a vacancy. FIA should start new selection and USF1 should apply same as any other potential team. Until now USF1 is nothing other than a potential team although with an entry and part of the concorde
just imagine that if not for Toyota exit Sauber team could have been in Stefan's situation today ...
it stops stefan entering
but I'm not convinced that USF1 will do a better job if you give them an extra year to prepare - the management is running around like a bunch of headless chickens
But USF1 were talking themselves up ages ago. They had all the time in the world. I think their problems might be more to do with management than lack of sponsorship
If the FIA open up a new process, we can almost be certain it wont be fair and open. Propbaby resulting in the place going to Stefan.
I dont think their will be another chance to get F1 into the US for a while, it makes far more sense to have them in if it can be done, and i supect Chad will get more involved to ensure it does
Lotus have had less time than USF1
it's not time that's their problem though - hey they worked over christmas! ;-)
That's just manipulation. Who is to stay Stefan is less suitable than Windsor's little play thing?
I would agree with that... it's up to USF1 to prove they are more likely to show up in 2011 than anyone else
that is one of the possible scenarios. but whatever there may be behind Stefan and their long term intentions, I do not see how would selecting Stefan (with cars and drivers) be worse than giving chance to USF1 (with no cars, no drivers) ...
The big problem is there seems to be no published criteria for entry. Who will they pick?
one of them reportedly has a car, and three drivers... the other is building toasters... sounds more suitable to me
Windsor has been involved in F1 for years.
People who no one has heard of that suddenly turn up at sporting organisations with promises of mountains of cash are more often than not up to no good.
I dont think Windsor is the problem at USF1, Ken Anderson was supposed to be building a car.
Well there were big problems somewhere. At least Stefan has cars.
I really wished USF1 had worked, but this lot don't seem capable
But what use are cars without tyres? :P
Not much. I hear Avon have some :D
Neither seems to have the slightest clue what the other or anyone else at the team is doing. It really wouldn't surprise me if Windsor's rant about working over Christmas came as a surprise to the team when they came back to work in January after a two week holiday.
Well they would have tyres if they were allowed in.
The fact they never had any to test with suggests the FIA don't want them in.
Have they done any crash tests?
The brave new world isn't so brave is it? Thanks Jean!
I'm not saying I'm overly keen about having Stefan... but at the moment they are infinitely more suitable than a toaster manufacturer
I Am quite keen to see JV back on the grid, but i fear if they do get in then it could all end badly.
You're talking about baggy race suits aren't you? :D
who for?
JV. One of these day's he'll trip on his pants and fall down.
seeing how far off the pace lotus and virgin are, I can't see them wanting a second-hand toyota in a million years - it'll totally kill their chances of making Q2 which already looks like requiring a miracle
F1, we don't really need another scandal!
As much as id love to see JV back, there is no way on earth that Stefan would be allowed in. Even if the FIA were that obtuse to grant them entry, im sure the teams it would affect the most would soon protest and then we'd have another messy WMSC hearing etc.
F1 needs another PR disaster like i need another donut!!
mmmmm donuts.
LOL
Can anyone suggest a name for my fantasy racers team? Im determined to make more of an effort this year, don't know where Womble Racing finished last season in the end.
Chad "hugo reyes" Hurley must surely want some of his coin back?
Name it after your favourite corner in F1, then make it sound seedy like i did :-)
As the reigning 2010 champion i suppose i should sign up for it :P
Oooh. competition then?
Parabolica's......um......?
Flying Elvis Racing will be on the 2010 grid :-)
panties!
thats just bad. but so bad its funny
I don't want to end up on the naughty step again.
Ascari looks like an armpit. so Ascari's Armpit
Im gonna be the Pirates of the 130ARRRRRRRR
Right. ipod synced. I'm going to bed.
LOL!
Sweet!!
But why penalise them? What does that achieve?
Ditto. 'cept for the ipod bit. i did mine last nite ;-)
What I think should happen is that USF1 get deferred, are closely monitored and have to apply for 2011. The slot opens up for Stefan or whoever else and then everyone's happy.
Really, all the applicants should have been allowed in the first place and prove they could (1) build a car in time and (2) qualify in the top 26.
It's the only fair and reasonable way to select teams and it used to work just fine...
Can anyone tell me the sidepodcast league number? I want a rivalry with somebody to keep Flying Elvis Racing motivated for the whole season :-)
All the info is here: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/01/30/fantasy-racers-panda-racing-2010/
:)
Joined, Currently 204th, :P Thats quite a fall!
Brilliant, thanks for that Christine. As you responded you are my rival who I aim to beat this season, it would be too easy to make Mr C going on last season's form.
Hahaha! Don't tell him that, he's still sulking about it!
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/01/webber-reverses-his-fortunes-on-christines-rankings/
You are a defending champion, right? You won under these rules last year. :D
I want a number 1 on my cars!
Kathi will be 1a, and you'll be 1b. ;)
In that case i will be uber cool and have a Zero ;)
Who will do a Schumacher and claim they prefer odd numbers?
:P
I wish Alison was here right now ;)
wha i do?
I am sure she would have said something funny ;)
Hehe, shes not as funny as she makes out :P
http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/03/01/us-f1-had-signed-rossiter-as-well-as-lopez-but-still-the-sums-didnt-add-up/
So $16M in driver funding and STILL not enough. Goodness.
*Shakes Head*
Problem is that money was due in 2010 which was far too late. I wonder if we will ever find out who the sponsor who dropped out was?
I suspect Ken and Peter decided to keep quiet when they realised they didnt have the cash, they should have been talking to Chad. As we have seen he is keen to be involved in F1, but they might have been worried he would bail.
yet again, no surprise
they're going to be in no state to take a 2011 slot either once their two drivers finish with them
Why is James Allens site still down, i really need to link to it grr....
If they get a reprieve, they have to start all over again...
gmm will be rushing to say that he's folded a la USF1 website
On a somewhat related note, the 2006 Honda livery was gorgeous. Absolutely stunning.
Our friend mike griffin hasn't seemed to have learned anything
His latest post is just a rewrite of James latest article :(
I will wait untill James's site is up before i call him out properly
Think about how asinine that is.
He takes articles and rewrites them for his blog ... yet unlike GMM doesn't sell them for money? What's the point?
I think he assumes he can show the world he writes like a journalist, and from that he might get job offers.
very disappointing after everyone was actually very encouraging to him (I don't believe the abusive email claim)
Neither do I.
has James Allen got a job? :-)
He writes for the financial times
Mr Mike Is "F1 Times Chief Analyst Michael Griffin"
Doesn't he moderate the FIA F1 presscons?
I can see a cached version of JA.
Dunno, he bums about the paddock and spends all day blogging ;)
a perfect role model then :-D
sometimes
ah, good plan! :D
hasn't he replaced PW full-time?
does he get paid for that gig? or since he was bumming around the paddock anyway...
Sounds quite the fanatic.
Afternoon.
i assume he gets paid. no way to know for sure, though.
Now, how do you compare the documents?
I think it's fair to say your assumption is correct.
not pitlane, btw...
I see no similarities between
"As expected, it looks like 2010 will be the closest season for a long time, with four teams clearly capable of winning races right off the bat"
and
"As expected it looks like the closest season for many years with four teams fighting for the overall victory"
none at all. ;)
That's quite incredible. This has to be the worst case of mismanagement in years.
Considering teams have been spending 300m 16 probably isnt as much as it sounds
I think it is for a paid drive.
not paid drive... pay drive
Compare and Contrast!

What's the best way to compare articles then?
its just amazing the way their thought process between which topic to put in which paragraph is identical.
You just need to read about three sentences and it's obvious.
Im not sure i follow you?
Unless you are refering to meercats?
my real identity is revealed!
Oh, I can see it very clearly. Content, layout, style. What I want to know is, if there is a way to feed these two articles into a program and find out how similar they are - a more scientific approach ...
Indeed so. That's the most striking thing about it.
Oh, I'm sure there is. Just search for plagiarism checker and Google throws up loads.
they've been checked out by the fia on more than one occasion, including in december. i don't think it's entirely a financial shortfall - they just don't seem to have the slightest clue what they're doing with the money
Did I tell you about this great idea I had on my blog? I am ranking the drivers. I decided to give Heikki points because he was funny on a specific micro blogging service. This is totally my idea.
wow... that could well be the definitive ranking system
can somebody tell me in which box my camera is?
is this like Deal or No Deal?
the one marked Kamera.
I guess our sterotypes of German Efficiency are not quite true! ;)
marked? What do you mean?
I move all my stuff within one hour. I'm quick not smart :)
I love labelling things.
well i could do that!
You clearly wasted valuable time using boxes! :P
but then you have labels on the boxes. What about next time you move?
new boxes!
WHAAAAAT? My parents still have the boxes they used when they moved into our house 30 years ago.
ewwww!
Arent they all moldy!
everytime we have moved my mum has worked in an office that gets hundreds of pretty new filing boxes from Crown every month. I'm not sure what happens now that she doesn't work there.
The one you haven't looked in yet.
Off topic here... when people say "Oh, that's the last place I would have looked!"
If it wasn't the last place you looked, then why did you keep on looking after you found it?
Wanna play a game? what is in this box? http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/p1020295-jpg
That one is clearly labelled with pictures ;)
a dog!
no. the winter/summer clothes are stored in them on the attic
Cant you get them at the supermarket instead of bags?
Erm... chocolate cake?
Kimi!
why not just put a label over the old label?
Doesn't the question mean it's the least likely place to find it, rather than the actual last place you looked at?
it's always in the last one you look in.
so if you can figure which one that is you can avoid looking in all the others
It does - it's a funny play on words though ;)
thats for people who don't have an endless supply of boxes. ie, me, since I'm now in another country from all the boxes. Remind me never to move.
some kind of confectionery!
Indeed. :D
Kimi ate the chocolate cake, got chased away by the dog and all that's left are bed covers :(
my flatmate got me a set of hand stitched bed covers when she was in Bangladesh which was a lovely gift but they don't match my decor at all so I can't use them and now I have to find somewhere to store them :( Bed covers are a pain :(
Alsion forced made me get new ones because she didnt like the way they looked on skype!
wa-pow!
it's probably best if I don't ask...
hehe
I had a fully furnished studio, so they came with it.
to be fair they were pretty horiffic!
Huh?
wa-pow!
:D
I thought you would be happy to see the back of winter/be happy to get into a month that has 2 races ;) {Comment #1}
Winter doesn't officially end here in Britain until March 21. A month with 2 races (and my birthday) in it does please me though :)
I have no sound, but this is not an accurate representation ;)

The writing is on the wall in twenty-foot garish neon lighting and neither Peter nor Ken can read it.
May I recommend an optician?
Oh give it up!
I am surprised none of the tree huggers complains about the Olympics burning a flame for no reason. {Comment #24}
Because it's a flame providing light (albeit ceremonial) and probably burns less energy than the opening/closing ceremony artificial lighting.
The Beijing opening ceremony with the children demonstrating environmentally-themed artforms in the midst of the biggest expenditure of energy the city had probably seen in one evening was particularly ironic to me for that reason.
Winter has become spring here - and I hope the Moaning Minnies that complained about the snow and cold are happy now... it's been replaced by rain and wind!
Have been doing my own house keeping, as I am now registered on the Wiki and have sent out a few emails and messages to people I met up with on Friday.
My My My...
May I say it's a bloody nice day outside - just back in from a lunch time stroll...
:)
hey stuart, hey leigh.
Why hello Mr C
A flying visit for now - work is a bid unhappy with happy with You Tube, so no Star Trek the Animated Series for me today
:(
heehe. i wonder why that might be :)
The ruiners of fun ruining my fun by employing ruinous net blockage!!
Yay! Desk + Desktop computer up and running. Next bed.
you don't want to use it?
the cheek of it, i tell ya.
AUTOSPORT looks very odd today, it looks like it is counting down to the start of the F1 season... which is starting in Singapore!
or you mean, the next thing you're setting up is the bed?
I don't want to sleep on the floor :(
yes. that.

i love that they have broken their own "align center" link in the name of advertising!
oh yes... shame they underestimate the width of my screen

ted news: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8543250.stm
is Mercedes first in the pitlane order as constructor's champions or is it McLaren?
good question. it used to be driver number #1, then constructor order, right?
it kind of should be brawn and neither of those two if you really want to get into it
I think the pits are in contructors championship order
fair point.
Hello all
Ah Nick:
Did you see the Tweets about Emma and UAE Aston racing?
article also features a pic detailing redbull's real exhaust and fake exhaust stickers.
#notbitterhonest
Really? How can he question anyone else as a journalist. He will get laughed at if not by the people he deals with then by his audience. {Comment #40}
He can still ask questions as a journalist, hopefully now with added humility and appreciation for the difficulty of the task.
Children tend to wear welsh rugby tops if you're a boy or a welsh dress if you're a girl, and there are daffodils everywhere. Plus it's the sunniest day we've had all year so far! {Comment #126}
At my house, Mum did soup with a lot of leeks in it for lunch to celebrate (none of us are Welsh, but Mum has a sister who lives on the west coast of Wales).

Takes a while to print out, but so far it looks pretty cool! {Comment #160}
I think I can guess who wrote this ;)
Someone to do with Amazon, considering all the 'buy now' links?
I don't like when people try to sell me tickets I have already bought.
:D
Have you told them you are already going?
I wish I could tell the Australian GP I bought my tickets from them months ago, they keep sending me letters. Real paper ones. I get excited to find out I have mail but it always ends up being spam. Actual physical now I have to recycle this spam.
Im not entirely convinced this Stefan guy isnt just Qadbak 2.0. {Comment #185}
I'm not convinced USF1 isn't just Qadbak 2.0 any more, which would make Stefan GP (potentially) Qadbak 3.0...
I realised where USF1 went wrong.
They never employed Franz Tost ;)
Most of the mail I receive is spam now but I don't get a hell of a lot apart from Rental DVDs
I can identify nearly all of it without opening and it goes in the recycling bag, ready for the Tuesday collection. Easy
Same here. What a waste of paper. So guess who never lets the spam chuckers in the building when they ring the doorbell? :D
Most of the mail I receive is spam now but I don't get a hell of a lot apart from Rental DVDs {Comment #382}
Most of the mail I get isn't spam, I'm pleased to say. That seems to get reserved for Mum...
The office slowed down and I think I'm caught up...
Ours comes from the postman. Royal Mail gets lots of money for delivering it (much of it is not addressed). Some people just put it back in the postbox :)
So guess who never lets the spam chuckers in the building when they ring the doorbell? :D {Comment #383}
I wish it were that easy. The spammers tend to just give their post to the Post Office, which then files it indiscriminately with the real post in our post box.
Ah, yeah we get that in a bundle sadly :(
we never get junk mail and I miss it. The 15 units in my building whose mailboxes are at the front door get it but the 15 whose are at the back gate don't. I need to move out of unit 18 if I want to get KFC vouchers again :D
Good morning all.
It feels odd not having any testing to refer to.
I'm kinda glad tbh
My twitter feed can calm down a little :)
Hey Grouch
ah well i can't check that during the day
I was just thinking that. I liked having a constant small amount of action going on in the background, that doesn't require full attention but is there when you want to catch up.
heheI have a reply from mr mike ;)
Sadly not true, my browser cookies are being bitches which means I haven't been on his blog in days now. Sorry to burst your bubble.
No, but when I did have time it was always 200+ tweets and I didn't want to unfollow most of em
Bring on Bahrain
oops sorry i didnt see the language :(
Hi
Exactly. And now I've caught up with comments, I want more things. :)
I have my Google Reader I suppose. And this pile of invoices.
I'm surprised you think his stuff is worthy enough to visit
I've seen enough
Did you see my comment earlier about UAE GT racing?
200 Tweets? I don't have the patience for that. I deleted most of my RSS feeds because I can't keep up with them. I wouldn't know what to do with Twitter.
Just saw you're now following my Reader shared things, ta :-) I keep forgetting to use it though, I may need prodding from time to time.
sorry, i think i missed it, will have a look when i get back in a sec ;)
What are the odds, though.
Oh well. Ignore it is, then.
I'll just wait for the print version of Twitter.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81794
Of course, Alia already told us yesterday that FIF1 have filed.
:D
:-)
It could be realtime one-line printer, like the old stock market update tickers (see original version of Addams Family)
i just remembered. today is 1st march, so f1times.co.uk should be dropping gmm today, right? i looked at this article on the site:
"Red Bull: No plans to hire Raikkonen - Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has played down speculation that Red Bull will sign Kimi Raikkonen for the 2011 season if the Fin decides to return to Formula One."
http://www.f1times.co.uk/red-bull-no-plans-to-hire-raikkonen-1960.html
and it's credited as "Staff Article". pretty good. except it reads just like a gmm article, and lo, gmm have the following today too:
"Mateschitz plays down Raikkonen return rumours - Mar.1 (GMM) Red Bull mogul Dietrich Mateschitz on Monday played down rumours Kimi Raikkonen could return to F1 with the brand's premier team next year."
so f1times are ripping off gmm? or have they struck a deal whereby they no longer give them credit, but still use the content?
Hopefully today the bookstore will get the February issue of F1 Racing. I have been waiting and waiting. They are getting tired of me stopping by and asking.
how tedious..
(hearts)
i could be a curious turn though. if the gmm name is so tarnished that they'd happily lose credit in order to retain sales. how do we tell if there's no "gmm" credit?
we just really go with the ones we trust. i don't think the gmm name will totally vanish, anyhow.
Cos it sounds like Bull? [not of the Red variety]
true,
Totally
I've no idea.
I'd be likely to believe they just droppped their subscription and are re-writing the pap
wonder what GMM will think of that...
makes more sense than paying gmm for the pap
It's what they do
In the end, do we really care?
Looks like that may be the case.
In other news, that fellow who kicked up the plagiarism stink on Twitter last week has written a blog entry that contains substantial, um 'echoes' of James Allen's piece on an identical subject...
not really, was just curious. it's not february and half the site still says "locked until late-feb". it's going well for them :)
We were talking about it earlier. He's denied it, says he can't see JA's site.
Apparently uni is harder than they thought?
Nick challenged him earlier, he replied in a silly denial fashion. Is referenced earlier
:)
:)
Oh Christ, who's he been starting arguments with now.....
hehe!
this is one he can win though, one handed and blindfolded.
No, he's fine
He challenged the idiot that tore into Jackie last week
Now he's ripping off James Allen
:-D
Has he? hehehe
Fancy using the fact that JA's site is currently down as an excuse - hasn't he heard of the archive?
Yup, just read back to earlier.
He was always ripping of James Allen
He doesn't appear to be the smartest cookie in the biscuit tin
Time to get back to work for me. Take care all.
See ya Grouch.
honestly, how stupid does he think people are?
more stupid than he is.
Is that possible?
it's a tough ask :)
sorry, didn't see the language that Nick didn't see either
Oh, I see.
These people are very silly, imagining that blogging this way will help them get jobs in journalism (not least because there are hardly any vacancies these days). Far better to take a 'less is more' approach and only write when you have something original to say.
Such people are very blinkered, assuming that blogging this way will aid them to find employment as a journalist (not least because it is difficult to get into these days). Much better to take a 'minimalist' approach and only write when you have something fresh to talk about.
Yegads.
:D
Spooky wasn't it ;)
:D Too darn creepy.
I guess people blog for different reasons too
true story. i wouldn't consider motorsport journalism as a career in a million years. i have huge respect those who do it, but you wouldn't find me travelling to 19 races a year, ever.
19 lots of outside. Scary.
plagiarised commenting, whatever next :)
19 weekends of awesome! :D
All about perspective. :)
Definitely
we was knackered going to london for an evening.
Wait, wait, wait!
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/06/16/why-to-blog/
You did get a little Bassano'd
Wasn't entirely your fault
But you always have a go at Brundle for wanting to take Hungary off.
That's because he took the job!
because he chose that career. if you're going to do it, do it well or get out of the way of someone else.
i choose not to do it.
Interesting. There are a couple of blogs taking the approach of writing 2 or 3 posts per day on the news or a current issue (though perhaps not a hard and fast rule to write that many). They seem to be doing so with their own voice. I can't say I really read them though.
I struggle to keep up with Joe's :)
I guess so. I have sympathy.
darn it... now have to wait for Stuart's response before I can plagiarise it!
interestingly, davidson is doing something similar, but at least he's racing instead.
i kinda think he shouldn't be taking up someone else spot in the booth when it suits him though. difficult one.
Nick's been at the supermarket rather a long time. I'm worried. They're expecting more insane storms :(
Afternoon everyone. I have not seen any welsh cakes today :(
Booo.
Exactly. You've only got a finite amount of time during the day, so most people are going to select a couple of outlets they respect and stick with them.
This is starting to remind me of Orwell's jokey recasting of Ecclesiastes ("I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all") into modern managementspeak ("Objective considerations of contemporary phenomena compel the conclusion that success or failure in competitive activities exhibits no tendency to be commensurate with innate capacity, but that a considerable element of the unpredictable must invariably be taken into account").
Looks like I know who Ron Dennis' ancestors are. :D Just kidding.
Shamingly, it took me three days to work out how the toilets flush in the MTC...
...! What took you so long? It's just a toilet...
I blame Bernie for that one. They will insist on scheduling Montreal against Le Mans.
He'll be fine. He's probably in the pub
Text him
three seashells?
Hi Lukeh
Happy St David's to ya
He just tweeted!
here's an insight into the thought process: http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9830736753
It's a Buck Rogers toilet, and as Ron himself might say, "the activation mechanism is not immediately apparent upon preliminary optical investigation, nor even upon subsequent and intensive research procedures..."
Oddly enough I understood the second one but not the first.
Hey, I'm back!
had a look, when was it?
Goodness knows what you tried doing to it... :D
*facepalm* seriously???
and you didn't think to blog this?
and am i the only one thinking, there needs to be "an evening with stuart" soon?
yes... the key to a good blog is tweeting it to death
ironic in a sense as look what happened when he started tweeting lots...
no you're not
Is it one with an optical sensor? I like those, you can pretend you're a Jedi.
Was waiting to see if it's covered in the NDA I signed without actually reading.
People queueing for JB's autograph at ASI got a whole day of this madness...
:)
does it automatically flush when you finish whistling?
clap activated?
voice activated? "flush please"
it's bound to be a thermal imaging sensor right?
GRRRRRR
That's what I thought at first. Spent ages waving my hands around like a wally.
third pedal?
He tweeted again: http://twitter.com/Twiger/status/9831090295
hehehe
does it involve vis flow paint?
Ah yes, I invested some time looking for a 'brake-steer' flush mechanism as well...
Disappointingly, it's just a (very well-hidden) button.
ahhh, option 13.
"Off now, accused of plagiarism yet again, that word follows me wherever I go these days."
Well stop doing it then!
:)
:)
:)
:)
Have you had a word? He may get the hint from someone who actually is a journalist :)
wrong team. ;)
:D
mike coughlan?
i thought that was tad czapski's work, option 13?
In terms of outraged denials of what seems blindingly obvious, a shining career in PR beckons...
yikes.
#stopgettingintothingsyouhavenorecollectionof
Nick has dripped raw meat juice all over the Capri Suns in his fridge!!
Hmmm. What did he say?
he didnt, he put the meat on the middle shelf because the drinks are on the bottom one!
It was kofte in a sealed pack... no dripping!
i love how you refer to yourself in 3rd person. :D
Where have you put the stuff you're not eating... Back on the shelf in the non-sealed packet! Over the Capri Suns....
Its all cooking!
poor mr mike seems to be having some trouble writing.
I admit it must be a new and difficult experience
but its very odd thing to tweet
wow, that's a lot of sarcasm floating round there...
Someone brought this up on Joe's blog re: 2010:
very valid point, that.
Is it good that I have no idea who this Mike chap is?
Not worth the hassle to find out
Fair enough.
lucky you, i say :)
Have to go, but before I do:
Joe's talked to Jean on Stefan.
FTA:
Hey everyone! :) all had a nice day?
indeedy lou. you?
Had too much fun in Media :)
Evenin all
hullo rg.
it's been a normal school day, but i seem to have been working on over drive today which means i'm all up to date with things. oh and Emma is still very awesome.
heya! :)
bff?
maybe... but if i say that she'll think i'm creepy. i don't want her to think i'm creepy :)
Evening Lou. :)
Grrr, annoying evening is annoying. Trying to settle down with family disputes is not fun :(
Also, has anyone heard the reeeeeally big cock up that Sony have let slip? Might be a bit of backwards #MFC news. It's pretty much impossible to play the Playstation 3 at the moment because the system's internal clock has gone horribly wrong moving from February to March, soemthing to do with it thinking it's the 29th. Basically it's left all the syncing with games, save files, your trophies, your downloaded content, completely useless as well as the system itself connecting to anything online. Bit of a huge problem for Sony...
woah. and podcasts it would seem: http://twitter.com/4chords/status/9826610305
presumably it'll all come right tomorrow?
My watch did the same, and they are a nightmare to change. Tough times for Sony.
Its the millenium bug!
It wasnt just a con!
you're sony watch is also broken?
your, not you're.
The theory is that it will. Sony are 'going to put out a patch within the next 24 hours"
AKA waiting until midnight ;)
Noo, just if I had a problem sorting out a watch, I'm sure its tougher for that lot.
oh i see :)
madness.
This explains the whole situation better than I do. I'm not even going to touch my console based on twitter and various forms I've seen today ;)
Im gambling !
Mine doesnt have a web connection so hopfullt it will be ok
not http://gamboling.co.uk/ ?
Careful...
It's the internal clock, not the one you see as part of the software on screen. So the problem is hardware related, hence why even offline ps3's are getting it.
hehe
It all seems to be working ok
*waves* ;)
nice plug :P
Evening all
I purchased a Dazzle Video Creator Platinum today from Maplin, and it's fantastic. It basically allows you to record any kind of video output and comes with Pinnacle Studio 11 editing software. The best thing is - it has FINALLY enabled me to start getting my recorded footage from my video camera to my laptop! :D
Plus - with this, I have the ability to record gameplay from my XBOX 360. Now that's quite #MFC in my opinion :P I have wanted to record gameplay footage from a games console and create videos from it for ages and now I can! :)
I was seretly hoping it would go mad so i could get a new slim one for free which would be a lot easier to carry around the world
but we know nick lives in opposite world. today is likely the only his hardware clock is correct.
Blimey, where are you wanting to go now???
I thought maybe when i come and visit....?
oops
Mine thinks its 23:46 on the 31st of december
blockquote>Mine thinks its 23:46 on the 31st of december
rats!
Evening all.
Nice to see Montoya getting on with his team mate
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81786
Awesome. So I'll enjoy it breaking in a couple of months when I come over? Cool beans :P
i heart Nick
:D
afternoon all
Hi Steven!
Hey
You've been warned....
#nothereanymore
Me too, I see he has been having fun on twitter
USF1 signed a second driver? Where did James Rossiter get $8million from?
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/157315/1/usf1_had_actually_signed_two_drivers_reports_suggest.html
Hi all btw.
Great guest blog Steven... I could go all on a rant with it.
hehe, apparently i owe him an apology now...
And enjoy them I did!
Anyway, hi all! I'm a new listener, with a love of F1, an unplayable PS3 and having a boring day off. Do I qualify to post on here?
...1999
turned it off!
yes!
we have people who dont like f1, have working ps3's and are at work! so everyone is welcome!
So the apology clearly menat nothing if he has't learned
Eeek!!
Yes I saw lol loved the hashtag earlier.
Aaaaargh!! Millenium bug!!!
Hello! Yes, take sony's broken day to join us, welcome :)
Go for it. Since Christine has elevated Molly Wood to hero of sidepodcast status with Leo rants are fashionable
He's learnt to take I'm an idiot off his twitter bio
Never. Escate
If you can post a comment without be unfamily friendly you qualify
LOL LOL LOL :D
Hey mate. I'm sure its a good enough excuse eh.
We're all gonna die....!
Well Nick is at any rate...
Has Sony broken everything?
2 words: Sony LOL!!!
Yeah, there weren't any Welsh Cakes in Greggs earlier. On St Davids Day!
Clearly Sony's fault.
Escalate?
I would do but he disappered, he also seems to have made some edits hehehe
*waves and says hi*
Emma is going to UAE tomorrow! how awesome is that! *is not stalking, just reading twitter*...
What I do?
#innocentofallcharges
Welcome!
to the post? .. google cache?
Welcome to the club :D
yeah yeah yeah :P
ah cool, is she joes pa?
what is she doing here?
she owns a (i think she owns it) management company and owns some teams out there
Don't know if this has been posted here already, but this is hilarious. NOt sure which test, but we've got some Mclaren guys trying to get a look at the Ferrari:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPqm7RjgtVY&feature=player_embedded&fmt=37
Clearly you have not read Bassano's comments from last night. He has her whole career history checked out.
She owns it
http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/emma-stonier/19/872/67
Hehehe, I saw that yesterday. The screens are very silly :P
ah cool, maybe i will see her at the autodrome, depends which series though i guess, i have paddock access for the gt championship and support races
i think so.. she owns the company driven communications too..
http://twitter.com/emmastonier/status/9830286619
And how is it they had a promised 16mil coming in, and a billionaire backer, and still couldn't produce a car! Sounds like TERRIBLE management to me.
hehehe really?
all i know about her is she's about 1000% more helpful than the f1 photographers have been to me, and is very nice (plus quick with correspondence).
I want her job. A month of racing somewhere hot and making money
I checked up last night and apprently Chad didn't make a billion from the sale of youtube. His share was only $345 million. So you can see it would be a real struggle for them to make their planned $40 million budget with his original $20 million and another $16 million from the drivers. There is certainly enough money ther to get them on the grid in Bahrain.
Interesting, i will try and introduce myself.
i dont think i can do it in 140 chars and not come across as weird though!
I'm Nick and I am sidepodcast's representative in the gulf. If you are bored call me.
That's less than 140 characters
he said without coming across as wierd ;)
hehe
Exactly i cant say that!
The first bit is good though :D
Well offer to help her with the locals or tell her she can call you if she desperately needs some ducks
I was listening to our talk radio station here today, and they had a show called motorsport talk...
Awesome! you say
It was a man and a woman and they clearly didnt get along, it was very bitter,
And i knew more about overseas motorsports than the both of them, i did learn a little about the local stuff though.
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-news/229142/us-f1-offers-compensation-to-miss-season/
Has anyone seen this yet today?
So they can afford to do that?
That came out last night Jim. I can't wait to hear the answer
i dont think this has ever really been a money issue.
Yea, that's something I caught too. Where are they getting the money to throw down to secure the grid next season?
"With Charlotte-based US F1 still determined to become America's first Grand Prix team," Eh?
Evening everyone :)
they can be determined all they like, it's still not going to rewrite history
evening proffessor giggles
Hi Giggles
7 figures is $1 million. That is nothing for an F1 team. It will cost them way more than that to keep the team ticking over for a year
Ooh Giggles has been promoted, I thought it was Dr
Hey hey giggles.
I got an e-mail from John Gruber today. That was fun. Nothing to do with F1 though.
HI Alex, you've started a trend. I got outfoxed again today regarding muse.
andronov!!! *shakes fist*
I think I may be both... But I'm not sure.
How are you anyway Sir, long time no chat
sorry about the fox being out :(
:P
indeed I am well. Was sorry to hear about that idiot the other day. Glad you've kept strong.
How are you doing?
I'm good thanks, starting to enjoy F1 again .. had a bit of a "can't be bothered phase" over the off-season
i've had that too, i've recorded a podcast but just felt very 'meh' to edit it, got an email about potential interviews today though, so hopefully that'll help me get back into it
I have a muffin, yum strawberry and white chocolate!
well that's good. Who would we get to sing a tremayne if you weren't about?
oooo that sounds yummy!!
lol well if someone can come up with some new words for aint no party like an s club party i might be persuaded to sing
aint no race like an F1 race.
Taking this year off and not rushing stuff might be good for them. One can only imagine how bad the Campos car will be (assuming it makes it to the grid), and that was built by Dallara.
it started off aint no hug like a sidepod hug
I have found the f1 digests a great get back into F1 thing :)
must catch up with vivaF1 too
Well Steve did an excellent guest post we published today
I'm glad that Jackie has promised to record a sung voicemail. I'm really looking forward to it :)
Thankfully for Rossitor, he was able to score a seat in IndyCar in the meantime; although realistically I just don't see him breaking back into F1
:/
Steven did etc
I am sure someone must be able to do that
I don't mind the singing it's the words I'd get stuck at
we can help with that :D
cool :D
Did you see this just in via a link on twitter? http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/speed-fox-team-for-2010-f1-new-grid-reporter-introduced/
A lot of people will be pleased :D
i wonder if he gets peters aus pre race gig too?
I live in Dubai and want to get involved with motorsports. Do you need an intern/apprentice?
Would Peter have the nerve to do it?
I know whats original and whats fed through a rewrite program
hehe i dont have time for that!
I already have paddock/pitlane access to national events too :D
:D
Dunno then?
will he be going to races?
Dan is going to be very happy about that. He thought Windsor was going back to Speed last night and he was none to happy about it.
Hai, i live in dubai. i dont know who you are but doohicky folks say you are cool. im the guy you will see being in the way during pitstops k thx bai
:D
PS I won't do anything to upset you or Lou might kill me
:D
He probably think his team will be at the races. I wonder if Bernie and blocked his paddock pass yet
It's not often I get mentioned in the Daily Thread post (27th Feb 2010, look it up!), so I must thank Christine for the plug, which has probably tripled my blog stats - from 3 to 6!!!
oooh, yay.
I really hope he does block it!
oi!!... but it's kinda true...
He wont, he knows things that bernie realy really doesnt want out in the open
Does anyone actually watch the Speed/Fox team for F1? I live in American and find it unwatchable. I basically go into hiding during Grand Prix weekends until I can get a BBC broadcast of the event.
Shouldn't that be 9?
you think bernie is scared of windsor?
hehehahahahah!
*facepalm*
It's Monday, I cannot wait to go to bed.
Bernie'd be laughing to the grave!! :D
I was just pulling your leg.
well it never has come out how a team managed to go from being owned by bernie, to windsor being buneled in the back of a van by men in masks and ending up with several broken bones.
What went on there would make very interesting reading!
yeah it has. pitpass wrote about it ten years ago.
I have to disappear for an hour so play nicely with each other while I am away. If you are bored I hear there is an awesome guest post on Viva F1. Feel free to leave positive or negative comments or to rant if you feel like it.
http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=2807
nothing to see here, very old news, doubt bernie gives a flying felipe.
From what i read in terry lovels book it said windsor had refused to discuss what went on when it happened?
in any case, i suspect he will be away from the paddock for a while.
lol I likes that turn of phrase
Checking it out right now
we'll see.
Oh thank god... SpeedTV has a brain....
Anyone got a link for that, sounds interesting.... but then again it is THAT site
Daring Fireball Jonhn Gruber, nice!
don't even know if it still there. as ever, the conspiracy theories are so much much exciting than the reality.
In the grand scheme of things though, it's more like putting a band-aid on a broken wound. Speed's whole presentation is terrible, bad production, ignorance widespread, etc. This is a step in the right direction, but it's going to take a lot more.
Just realised something: this season there will be more F1 champions on the grid than any other year since 1999. That's a long time of Schumidomination.
A new verb for the dictionary?
I just said they had a brain. Too bad it is too heavily infected with a disease known as "NASCAR-Practiciousitous"
Trying the realtime/mobile thing. Commenting from my iTouch at the cafe.
Nice to see the change at SpeedTV. I don't think Peter Windsor could be objective this season even if USF1 doesn't race til '11.
Think of the worst of Eddie Jordan x 10
it's the dominant sport though. surely it's up to f1 to make f1 better?
Good evening.
oh no!
chap.
Does anyone really think the FIA are going to hold a slot for them for a year
Why shouldn't a more deserving team get it or let the entries be decided on merit when the time comes?
when does the time come though?
I just caught that on Twitter as well, first thing I saw when I loaded it. Great news both for Will and for Speed and their audience. I mean I have no idea what he's like on telly but surely he'll be good.
will it affect gp2/gpweek?
Jenson's views on the winter and the up and coming season.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2togDmmjGAI
Can't say they won't. I personally doubt it, but I'm never really amazed at bat-butt crazy decisions made by the FIA.
If there's a slot, would it not be fairer to let all those apply and judge their entries on merit?
I understand this is the FIA but you get the point
This is true, sadly
i don't know when or even if the fia have a process for deciding though.
Even if they do they'll presumably just make things up as they go along like usual :)
For 2011, I mean
If there's a free space
This could be the first real test of Mr Todt's presidency
Alex: What did John Gruber say, I presume it was Tech Talk?
that's what i'm saying. the fia don't have a process for evaluating new teams do they? that's why this year is a once in a very long time opportunity.
i don't think it's that big a deal to be honest.
If anyone has not voted, I'll be closing the final Life in the Fast Lane poll soon: http://tenstepstories.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/life-in-the-fast-lane-part-9/
Technically I'm waiting for my mother to let me know she has voted, but shhh.
When Bernie rolls over and barks "pay me!!!"
It's pretty clear the FIA's judgment is slightly skewed :)
:)
Yes, it's up to F1 to make it appeal to Americans, but they're also fighting an uphill battle the whole way. It's a lot like futbol, in terms of they're both great sports, but neither are part of American traditions, so both are very unpopular.
Not sure. Who does he do GP2 for?
to me, they gave a team an entry, the team screwed up. deal closed. no extensions, no alternates. the slot came and went, f1 moves on.
he's the commentator, isn't he?
Completely agree
For Eurosport? Martin Haven usually does it, does Will do it when he's busy?
Agreed!
It should be the classic, "It's not personal, it's just business"
We were engaged in conversation re: Free Play. I was thinking that lots of tech companies at the moment seem to be making a distinction between mobile device and computer in their strange licensing ways. Freeplay lets you authorise on up to 5 computers. But as many devices as you like. I wondered if he had a feel about if the iPad is a computer or a device. He says he had assumed it would be device.
From his 'about' page:
Buxton is the FIA Accredited Journalist for Australasian Motorsport News at every Formula 1 Grand Prix, and he is also the commentator for the FOM world feed of the GP2 Series and GP2 Asia Series
midweekmotorosport just said:
Will you be as magnificently exuberant as you are on your GP2 Asia broadcasts?
I think they may, but they shouldn't get a slot. They've had more than ample time to do what they needed to do, and screwed it up royally.
Interesting
Ah I see. I have no idea what territories use the world feed.
Fully agree. As much as it'd be nice to see an entry from my own country, it'd be unfair to keep someone else from the grid who have the manpower and the ability to produce a car, hire drivers and actually construct a race team.
On that subject, there is rumours of constrained availabilty on launch
May be time to pre-register for the early adopters
MacRumors article
Christine's mother in law's son's mother in law?
Amen
good evening
usf still on life support? or have they pulled the plug?
Agreed. I was just making a joke. Seriously, they cover all of NASCAR series practices. If you want a new definition of boredom... then three hours of NASCAR Nationwide practice is it. It makes F1 practice and test sessions look like a Michael Bay movie.
Just like Bernie, it won't die!
Hi Mav
Posted this earlier
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-news/229142/us-f1-offers-compensation-to-miss-season/
That's the one!
Okay cool... I got all confused the way you described it ;)
F1's problem in America is bad production. Speed's F1 presentation is terrible, where as the BBC's presentation is outstanding.
NASCAR, while it's not my cup of tea, has great presentation and excellent commentary in America.
:)
see... not exactly short of money are they?
Toaster manufacturing has diverted their attention methinks
they'll forget to put slots in the top or something
As long as it has KERS it'll be ok with me =)
That why I want to see ESPN form a Motorsports channel.
Steve Jobs told me it was a whole new category :P
When is a brand new Apple device NOT in constraint at launch?
What they really need is the folks who do NFL Films to do F1 production. I swear the folks from NFL Films make even the most mundane part of football look amazing.
How's a toaster have any Kinetic Energy to recover? (Unless you throw it in frustration or at Ken Anderson)
NFL Films is a good example for F1 to follow. It makes a profit every year. The problem is that Bernie would never start this up because of the sunk cost to get it going. Same reason why he will not invest in HD.
O wow! I just had an epiphany after reading the last few comments.
USF1 hasn't really been building a car all this time, or even toasters.
They're really a front for Apple, they've been building the stockpile of 300 Million iPads for release date.
now i wrote that and then decided not to go there because it was only going to confuse Ken Anderson if he ever read it
So true...
oops. Rumbled! :-)
check with gruberson, but I think if the toaster has a 30 pin dock connector, it will count as a device too
they WERE meant to be iPods - they managed to mess up the dimensions
Very good chance it might confuse him. He could throw the toaster at himself.
I might pay to see that.
It's viewable, but not in HD.
nothing wrong with my middle finger mr mike, see...
true
that's OK. Right now my cable company only transmits the 4 local channels in HD anyway.
OUCH!
One of the only reason I get HD from my cable company is because of the Discovery Channel and the Sci Channel. The animal/space programs in HD are amazing.
It's a rinky dink company and they just got bought out by RCN, so sometime this year they'll be upgrading. Verizon is also scheduled to lay FIOS around June or so.
Yea, I'm going to miss my FIOS. I'm moving this weekend and am only going to have Comcast or DirectTV available.
Where too, if I may ask? (Americans gotta stick together on here, it's full of foreigners! ;) )
It's the only way to run a 24hr commenting system :D
I work in DC, but live in Fairfax, VA, which is too long of a drive. I'll be living on the outskirts of Woodbridge, VA, just a smidge south of the District itself.
In Bloomington, Indiana here.
Holy frijoles! I live just south of Manassas, in Gainesville.
Plus it'll put me closer to FedEx Field, which is where SCCA holds our Autocross events.
Well howdy neighbor =)
A new post: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/03/01/a-boatload-of-fun/
SidepodMeet-up in the offing!
With my schedule, I usually run into more of the EU types. Friendly no matter where you're from.
Do you do any motorsports around the VA area? I got engulfed in it last year and have a 30 or so event schedule built for this coming year. Will be doing NASA events out at Summit Point too.
Those films are awesome. Why can't we get the audo they have on regular coverage?
Recover the pop up energy
I'm guessing Lukeh already knows about the Official Muse App
I was going to suggest that but by the end of the evening we would have re-designed it ourselves
Oooh yes.
Lurker! :)
I wouldn't expect anything else
come to think of it, all toasters have KERS
you push it down, it recovers the energy in a spring, which it releases once burnt (maybe I should set the timer to a lower number)
Summit point? Just raced there last week on the iRacing Sim ;)
The only thing I do right now is the PCA karting league at Allsports GP in Sterling (http://pcakarting.com/)
But I know a few fellow Impreza owners that do the autocross thing.
IndyCar.com is about to be relaunched, and I mean any time in the next few minutes. Hopefully the absolute mess of the old one will be a thing of the past.
ooh, Wedge found this... http://www.indycar.com/schedule/
No, that's turning potential energy into kinetic. Not recovery
The only problem being you are not allowed to deploy KERS under 100kmh.
you have to push the toast in anyway
why not recover that energy to help get it back out again?
Would need to throw it quite hard to acheive that then
and you can only use it once per slice of toast
John Elway isn't doing anything right now and I'm sure he still has a cannon for an arm.
*re-disappears*
You see, this is why i stayed quiet earlier :D
But as it tops out on release it still has energy that turns to sound as it clangs againt the top limit and kinetic spring wobble
I won't mention TERS then
How fast does a toaster pop up go?
Ask US F1, this question has obviously held them back so far. They must have some answers by now
toasTERS
You also have to factor in the elements too, it's not always going to be a nice, sunny and calm day. We're going to have to wind-tunnel this.
You're right, CFD isn't the way to go on this
Or CTD
I thought you meant the heating elements. Lot of energy to be recovered there too
Yes, it didn't work well for Virgin's toaster, er I mean car.
TERS - thermal energy recovery system - the big energy loss is heat out of the top
We can put a paddle wheel on top that will turn when the heat rises. Run an output shaft to a charger with a capacitor connected to it.
Lurkeh. ;)
Computational Toast Dynamics?
Does it factor in bread softness and sell-by dates? :D
Self-destructing toasters are great for suicide bombers. Not so great for toast....
That's coming in a later patch.
UST1 are having the slots on the bottom to prevent losing heat. Bit of a sod if the toast goes on fire though
AFTER.
Automatic Fire Toast Ejection Rams.
:D
Are you sure those slots are *real* slots, and not just Red Bull style stickers, pretending to be slots?
Little bit of fire never hurt anyone. Ask Kimi after Button set him on fire at Interlagos.
Kovi wasn't it?
Toast exhaust scandal! :D
Right, Heikki. Brain fart.
that leaves the risk of AFTERburn
You could put stickers on the top
Heikki set fire to him
What kind of diffusers are going to be toaster legal?
diffusers? they're expanding out into hairdryers too?
Why not, my crockpot has things on the side that appear to be very illegal diffusers. The stewards are definitely going to have a look at them.
Anyone want to join the fun?
http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/statuses/9841120077
Good spot that man! :D
I think he's had far too much of our time and simply doesn't get it anyway
There is a point at which patient explanations turn into harrassment, and I'm not interested in harrassment.
No, not really. What he did before was wrong, and I can't really give a damn about what else he does. Didn't before, don't now.
He seems a bit sensitive
It's a shame he just doesn't learn to not rise to the bait
Still, we've established he's not the brightest
Back to the toasters :)
Neither am I. Thought I'd let him know my thoughts though.
Nothing wrong with that but I can see this really getting out of hand
well I'm blocked, so it's hard to
but I found this comment interesting: http://twitter.com/mike_griffin_f1/status/9832261708
here's my response: http://twitter.com/VivaF1/status/9840131589
so I think the apology might want to go in the opposite direction
he clearly doesn't get it though
True, but we all talk about how we should encourage people not to use GMM and take other people's work, yet nobody except a couple want to tell him that he shouldn't be doing it?
talking of which...
He was tackled on that last week and clearly doesn't get it. Most of us gave up on a lost cause after that
I don't get what he's on about with cookies. I'm rapidly losing interest.
What's the point? He's obviously not listening.
That's what I said last week. It was worth a shot. For a while it looked like he might turn out to be promising. He's dropped GMM and started copying other people. I give up.
Yeah alright, fine then. You guys were very keen earlier, was all...
The only thing I care about is him affecting some great members of the community. Him and his work, never had an interest
he was copying people weeks ago, he had james allen articles days before all this kicked off and I can't be bothered going back beyond what was on the front page of article
Some were, not many, I think
He got the message. There's no need to then stir it up again several hours later.
we did it all this morning and then again this afternoon. i think anyone who wants to be a one-handed f1 journalist is living in on the same planet as nick.
come to think of it, ask mike what he thinks about abu dhabi?
true
same with GMM though
Anyway I'm watching ALMS Long Beach from last year while thinking about blogging of my own, so back to that..
:D
Was watching V8 supercars over the weekend. They were racing in Abu Dhabi.
Yup, it's still a crap circuit.
He has some real rubbish on his twitter. He has a conversation with someone about why Ferrari don't have yellow uniforms any more. The guy says he remembers Todt wearing yellow in 1998. Griffin then says everything has been red since Enzo's death. That was 10 years before the other guy saw Todt wearing yellow.
The reason the team wears red is sponsors
Fair enough - I couldn't really tweet earlier you see.
The GP2 racing was quite fun but for entirely different reasons I think
See how he eventually responds once the temper tantrum is over and if he needs more people to point him in the right direction then so be it
'rosso marlboro' it's called
Exactly. Enzo didn't like to see aything other than a few trade sponsors on the car because as usual he ws living in the past but once he died the team became a more normal F1 team and eventually the sponsors got a bit more bang for their buck.
Amazon building its own space vehicle
http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/blue-origin-rocket-secrets-100226.html
Is this to get around VAT laws?
Haven't found a reason for it yet other than Jeff Bezos having more money than he knows what to do with and too much sense to give it to Peter Windsor
Sounds fair enough to me
It's times like this that I feel for USF1. I just got an email from Weisco letting me know it'll be another two weeks on my pistons I ordered.
hrmmm... you getting someone else to install the pistons or are you doing it yourself?
Rebuild myself on a 4AG that's going into (hopefully) this years car that I'll use for the STS class of autocross; my '85 Toyota MR2.
Looks like Bezos's space program is more advance than I thought. I had never heard of it. If anyone in the Seattle area is looking for a space job they are hiring.
http://www.blueorigin.com/index.html
You could contact USF1 and ask them to custom machine your pistons for you. I'm pretty sure they have at least 1 milling machine sitting idle on their shop floor.
Interesting.... I'm wary of doing any racing in my STi because it already had to have it's engine rebuilt (oil pickup broke, at least it was under warranty and they fixed it at no cost to me), but if I could find someone local that could help with a rebuild if it broke... ;)
Few pics of the car build in progress. Lots of holdups, especially with the move.

Shockingly bad journalism?
http://twitter.com/JonnyMWright/status/9842466415
I know a couple Subaru specialists in fact. The car they built is an absolute monster... They run with at the Capitol Driving Club events I go to.
Cool. Two of my brothers-in-law each have their own 24 hours of lemons teams and they both race MR2's
Funny you mention that, I'll be pitting for a Lemons team hopefully for the event here in NOVA.
I always liked that MR2
I know many subie folk, dont' know if they can rebuild an engine, though :)
Either way I have to wait for a year or two until we get a 3rd car, then I have permisssion to race :)
That is unacceptable.
These folks can rebuild anything on a Subaru. They may as well work for Prodrive.
yeah, one of the in-laws said I shoudl get a car and then they could come drive for me. I told him he already mooched off of me for a year living in my house for free so it should be the other way around :)
That is unprofessional to say the least.
Same. I love everything with that 4AG motor. I also own an older Corolla packing a 4AG and used to work on Corolla GT's that had the same.

They're super reliable motors and can take quite a beating. Plus they're very easy to break down in case you have a failure. Those and Nissan's CA18DET were my motors of choice while stationed in Europe and I got plenty of miles during that time logged on them at Nordschleife, Hockenheim and Spa.
Ok folks, just about 5 o clock here, so time to pack up and call it a day. Take care =)
Have a nice evening :)
stupid thing is he's probably going to get more false leads than real ones
See you Jim
Later.
I have got to the stage where i am so excited about the new season i've just been randomly watching clips and montages of last season. warning i am super happy #goodmemories.
you should tune into bbc1 at 1pm on saturday... :)
How many days to go now?
10!!!! just 10 days left!!! seriously only 10 days... not 100... 10 days...:D wohooo! *ehem*
It seems not time since you said it was 90+
i know! the off season is so much more bareable when you have spc towers.. is it strange that i'm really really looking forward to getting up early in the morning to watch the Ausi GP sessions..
I hate you Lou, seriously. 10 days! It's so close I have to start planning my Fridays now. My bosses will hate me for it!
I have a vision of SPC towers being a deep underground cave under a mountain in Wales.
don't hate me... i've counted down every single day of this off season! if i could have made it quicker i would... :P
SPC towers is on Rockall.
No, that's just me.
No, they're on Rockall
it's in earth orbit isn't it?
And my Monday was going so quickly..... :D
10? Darn, I still need to do my annual, completely misjudge a team in my season preview post.
:D
:D hehe
Wishlist for the front page: posted by author somewhere. Best place probably would be just after the date.
can you misjudge Jenson's team again please? that went kinda well last year. unless it wasn't you that predicted them as being rubbish? #awfulmemory
BTW, who's the woman on the picture for F1 Digest part 2 - the teams?
Got Sauber completely wrong too!
#sorryRG
Yes, it was me. Well, I was gonna predict McLaren for second in the championship. But, my predictions have been very wrong lately, so who knows.
She has Toro Rosso headphones on, that's all I got
FakeClaireWilliams?
Rockall?
second??? i can deal with them not being 2nd... as long as Jenson is first... (something tells me i'm not going to be as happy about the 2010 season as i was the 2009 one.)
Oh I love who I said was going to win in Aus, Fernando Alonso.
*gets popcorn*
I want to see what's going to happen at midnight regarding the whole PS3 farce... :)
http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/81794
Of course, Alia already told us yesterday that FIF1 have filed. {Comment #407}
You know what? Beating the established news sources to a news item (however small) feels good :) Interesting to note they left themselves a whole day of margin though. They have clearly learned not to take financial matters quite as much to the brink as usual ;)
i think she's the bridgestone tyre engineer for STR.
can do. will do.
Would make sense, I wondered about the Bridgestone photo tag
i could be a curious turn though. if the gmm name is so tarnished that they'd happily lose credit in order to retain sales. how do we tell if there's no "gmm" credit? {Comment #414}
Easy. If you put the main names into Twitter and get half-a-dozen identical stories back, then the half-dozen identical ones are the GMM version. If the title you're looking at is significantly different, it's almost certainly not GMM-modified content.

I had a thought earlier: Alex Andronov's Android Antics.
Too soon?
Yeah, he prefers iPhone :D
Brilliant! :)
true story. i wouldn't consider motorsport journalism as a career in a million years. i have huge respect those who do it, but you wouldn't find me travelling to 19 races a year, ever. {Comment #451}
I'd consider it, except that there's no way I'd be able to get the funding to start given the extreme lengths employers take to avoid employing me and the accessibility problems I'd face actually getting the job done (and indeed the disability-related difficulties getting a Chinese visa, which would preclude me from getting full-time F1 media accreditation).
I noticed. ;)
I have a craving for garlic bread. No idea why.....
Shamingly, it took me three days to work out how the toilets flush in the MTC...
...! What took you so long? It's just a toilet... {Comment #473}
If you didn't see today's episode of Coach Trip, I'll explain:
Two of the tourists encountered a toilet in Italy. It was immediately obvious that it was a squatting toilet, but the tourists spent a minute looking completely clueless about how to use it before the camera cut away to some point later when the rest of the group was being briefed about the sailing/drifting trip everyone was about to embark upon. Presumably the tourists eventually figured it out because they were spotted on the boat, but I can't guarantee it.
If the toilets were at all in keeping with the MTC, they will have been considerably more complex than that...
Flippin' spooky, I've just come back from the kitchen to warm the oven up for the very same thing
We all spend far too much time commenting together! :D
Aye, that we do. 3 cheers for Sidepodcast Live Commenting! :D
here's an insight into the thought process: http://twitter..._f1/status/9830736753 {Comment #479}
Good start, Mike, but you kind of forgot the important bit in the middle where you put something worth experiencing in the blog (which belongs after you've thought up the cool name but before you tweet the blog to pieces)...
mr lukeh, i would tell you what happened here at midnight but i didnt know there was a ps3 issue at all. That explains why last night i only had playtv under the tv option and not the abc iviewer that is normally there :D

I've just packed everything up for my art trip to london tomorrow!! (eeeek! i love the tate!). Silly snow delaying the original trip date.
Another trip to London? You should move there
Silly snow delaying loads!! Least you finally get to go :D
tsk... Christine needs an iPhone really too...
#nothere
i really love london. Am going up tomorrow to the tate on an art trip, then Thursday for a history conference :) hehehe
Don't they have a university in London that you could go to?
Anyway, hi all! I'm a new listener, with a love of F1, an unplayable PS3 and having a boring day off. Do I qualify to post on here? {Comment #567}
From what I can gather, only the first of those is strictly necessary to post here. Even if your PS3 starts working again and you have interesting days at work, you still qualify to post here ;)
Welcome to Sidepodcast, 4chords!

Night guys :)
See ya Gavin

hahahah they do, there is the University of Arts... but i wasn't that keen on the photography course they offer sadly.

yep. <3's the Tate modern. If we get enough time we'll maybe go to the V&A too yay for art galleries!

Add the $20m from Chad Hurley and we have a $36m budget (i.e. above the budget cap) being insufficient to get on the grid. USF1 couldn't have taken the budget cap even if it had been offered because they had too much income, yet they can't get by on it!
If Peter Windsor ever dares doubts or disparages Force India and/or its current/ex-drivers ever again, I will point and laugh. After all, Force India managed to score 13 points last year on a budget below that USF1 failed to get onto the grid on despite losing their best driver mid-season...
yeah, it is :( the uni looks great, just not really for me. It's based more on the theories of photography and not the practice of it.Other courses seem more balanced.
i looked at all the photography courses i could.. sadly the deadline has passed now for entries. Just need to pass the interviews now..
Where are you interviewing?
http://f1.gpup...ation-to-miss-season/
Has anyone seen this yet today? {Comment #613}
I'll interpret this as meaning USF1's initial request to miss 2010 (either the first 4 races or entirely) was turned down and they're now into desperation measures to not lose the entry. Oh dear.
They might be able to afford it depending on whether Chad Hurley believes sufficiently in the project to put in another dollop of money. If not, I think they're sunk.
If they can, the FIA will probably tell them they're sunk anyway.
Falmouth, Southampton Solent, Farnham and as a backup a foundation at the university of Kent.
I've only just realised the time and need to go to bed. Now would be a good time. Night folks. :)
night
"With Charlotte-based US F1 still determined to become America's first Grand Prix team," Eh? {Comment #618}
Someone add a history book (with a bookmark at "Eagle") to the shopping list of stuff USF1 needs this season...
Night
G'night TM
Good night
Would Peter have the nerve to do it?
will he be going to races?
He probably think his team will be at the races. I wonder if Bernie and blocked his paddock pass yet {Comment #664}
He needs a media contract to even get a paddock pass unless the USF1 team shows up. Otherwise his paddock pass expired at the end of Abu Dhabi (the only ones that don't are the red paddock passes and the only non-ex-racer journalist to ever get one was Murray Walker).
If USF1 does turn up, then Peter is bound to have a paddock pass because he will be named on the entry paperwork in a position that indicates he needs a valid one.
If there's a slot, would it not be fairer to let all those apply and judge their entries on merit?
i don't know when or even if the fia have a process for deciding though. {Comment #705}
There is a procedure. They let the slot lie fallow and repeat the 2009 procedure in about May. Possibly with the same outcome.
It is of little consequence to Jean Todt whether the slot is filled this year or not, given that it was his predecessor that decided USF1 should have a slot and USF1 that decided to tell the FIA things that did not prove true. He does however have an incentive for making sure the matter is dealt with well on the second attempt...
If you search for search engine in Google, Google doesn't come out first. Odd
good evening
usf still on life support? or have they pulled the plug? {Comment #694}
USF1 is critical and on life support, with vital signs declining. However it is still clinically alive, despite a poor prognosis.
I think there is a good case to prove brain death occurred a long time ago
:D
How's a toaster have any Kinetic Energy to recover? (Unless you throw it in frustration or at Ken Anderson) {Comment #750}
Pushing up/down the toaster handle?
I think there is a good case to prove brain death occurred a long time ago {Comment #970}
Brain death was suspected to have occurred almost immediately after birth, but exhaustive tests have yet to determine whether the brain is in fact dead or not. Diagnostic fiaology is not everything it believes itself to be...
We've been there, exhaustively :)
This just in, all non-slim PS3's are now hosed.
How fast does a toaster pop up go?
Ask US F1, this question has obviously held them back so far. They must have some answers by now {Comment #799}
If the lower limit of KERS is 100 km/h, that would be 28000 cm/s.
A typical slice of bread is 10cm wide (assuming the toaster takes the bread lengthways).
It would be necessary for the bread to enter the toaster in 1/2800 s (or 0.00035714 s) in order to reach the minimum speed for deployment of KERS.
It would be recommended for the benefit of reliability (and to avoid fingers being trapped) if an automated system was used for moving the bread from the top to the bottom of the toaster (perhaps using a button to engage and disengage the spring and a timer to indicate when the button should be pressed). A powered LIM system more commonly seen on powered-launch rollercoasters would probably be the best technical solution for the propulsion mechanism. Converting the unleaded fuel to become compressed gas within the toaster would, however, pose some minor technical difficulties.
New PS3 error
I wish this was a joke =/
Oh, and this system would allow energy to be retrieved twice per slice of bread - on the way in and out of the toaster.
It's been mentioned, in half an hour it passes midnight. We'll see what happens then
If any of you have a non-slim PS3, do not turn it on. Check online for details =(
Hahahaha.
Ah, didnt know if anyone brought it up.
Yeah I explained it earlier. It may change at 12 midnight GMT.... we shall see...
I saw some comments earlier about Sony problems. Do they really have a millenium bug fail ten years late?
Yea, I got home from work and decided to play Heavy Rain. No go... Trophy error, corrupted dynamic themes, etc...
eeeeeeeeeeeeeek.... not good :(
Thats the way it seems. Sony says they'll have a fix, but I dunno how to fix a console that cant connect to the network in the first place w/out a patch in snail mail.
A leap year confusion thing I believe, Lukeh may confirm, or not
USB stick?
Maybe they'll have a patch that I can dload from their site and migrate to my PS3 via thumb drive.
Beat me to it =P
Just goes to show the millenium bug panic merchants were right. They just got the date wrong
Well the leap year is involved somehow, but its setting the system back to Dec 31st 1999 or Jan 1st 2000 so yeah... that makes no sense either.
I've heard people fixed this error by removing the battery, but I dont want to void my warranty.
I've just packed everything up for my art trip to london tomorrow!! (eeeek! i love the tate!). Silly snow delaying the original trip date. {Comment #937}
Have a great time, lou!
Have there been any Hard FAIL jokes yet?
360 folks are yucking it up pretty hardcore.
If you search for search engine in Google, Google doesn't come out first. Odd {Comment #968}
Oops...
Then again, PS3 folks were yucking it up just as hard during every sob story involving a RLOD.
Have seena few forums with a few joke gifs but nothing stands out. yet. ;)
Give them a chance to fix it at midnight before you do anything like that
Yea, I'm not doing anything. Chuck comes on in an hr and a half and if I get super board I have my Senna/Prost book to keep me company.
Evening folks :)
I've just been to see the lovely bones. If any of you were considering it, I'd really recommend not....
*bored* i mean =P
Hi Alison
Dinosaur museum?
I thought the same, most dissapointed, especially for the source material & Peter Jackson
Aha. It's a film
And, hi :)
Lou mentioned to me it was 2 hours of crying
Evening. Dunno about "good" though. Sony broke everyone's PS3's.
I got so bored I nearly left.
It's not a happy subject, that's for sure
I don't know how he effed it up, I'm told the book was a good but difficult read
What possessed them to make a film that could be rated 12A is beyond me.
i saw that film the other day. my friend sobbed all the way through it.
Good point, studio pressure I guess
it really isn't a happy film.... certainly not a favourite either.
Whats 12A?
Similar to PG13
Gotcha.
LMFAO @ their last suggestion to what to do thanks to the PS3's breaking
right, early(ish) night for me i think, night all! xx
nighty night, enjoy london tomorrow :)
See ya Lou
Have a good day in London Lou
That does basically sum up the first hour of Heavy Rain
Oh yes... The game is vehemently boring for a good 1-2 hrs.
I'm not complaining, I've enjoyed it from the get go :)
I might have liked it more (the learning experience part), if I didn't dload the demo. Demo ruined a bit of it for me, as you do the h***** scene and the body in the field scene.
Everything after that I've enjoyed though.
Computer = rubbish
Restart time.... Don't all be off playstationing when my computer finally wakes up!
Just for info, it's quite family friendly around here
I won't, definitely
Apparently Playstations 3's are working again...
Hmm, testing.
Yay it worked :)
sony got lucky!
My PS3 thinks it's the 29th of April...
Mine was still 1st March but quick update via internet on the settings sorted it out
Ditto. Heavy Rain loaded for me too. Hmm, I thought my PS3 was bricked.
The apocalypse is over ;)
I think Nick has given my computer the millennium bug!
wow
There seem to be a lot of people with sick 'puters lately
It appears to be living on. A restart has cured many woes!
I don't miss those days
Time for me to get some sleepies. Night guys.
Heh
Maybe if I complain enough, Nick will buy me a mac. I'm not going back in the mac shop though.
Niiiiight
There's always http://store.apple.com/uk
G'night Lukeh
[He really was staying up to see if his PS3 would live, wasn't he :D]
Yah :) I have a code for the student store
#stillalegitimatestudenthonest
shush :)
Then I think you should talk him into it, especially as he broke your pc
Evennning. I'm looking at lawnmower racing and helping my girlfriend choose a bridesmade dress for her brothers wedding.
How are we all?
Haha it could be his. Except it lives at my house. I'm happy with that arrangement.
Perfectly fair
Hi Jon, not so bad thanks
Lawnmower racing huh
Ah unlucky for the two of you. Bridesmaid dresses are always hideous.
good :)
cheap and fun.12 hour lawnmower race anyone?
nah, these ones look nice
Poor Nick
Night
It's just too easy! :D
You definitely won't be allowed to buy them then. Everyone knows bridesmaids have to look stupid to make the bride look nicer.
haha very true
That is in fact, Wedding Law
You told us how many hours you worked. Didn't sound like student hours
They use the nice dresses to convince the bridesmaid to accept the role
Then take them away
Wisborough Green by any chance?
location tbc at the mo
Morning everyone :)
