A lovely sunset from our balcony last night
Happy Birthday Andrea de Cesaris! Happy Birthday to Alison too!
Helloooooooooooooo Sidepodcast! Did you enjoy the Monaco Grand Prix? Have you rated the race yet? Heard about the little boy who threw his toys out of the pram? No? It’ll only take an F1 Minute. If that’s not enough, both DC and Jake have their thoughts on it too. Or you can see and hear remixes of it too. Wouldn’t you love to get into Hamilton’s head though?
Plenty of action was to be had over the course of the whole Grand Prix, with lots to look back on, ask questions and analyse. And in Christine’s Rankings, plenty of points were scored by both the teams and the drivers, including a first time score for Tonio Liuzzi. Have you read his column on ESPNF1 yet?
Great to hear that both Perez and Petrov are OK. Scary crashes too! And it sounds like Renault are unhappy with Heidfeld, saying that he has to reach the pineapple of his abilities. Which is surprising, because Heidfeld is driving like his usual self I reckon?
There’s also lots of pics from the Cahier Archive worth checking out. And buy some too, because Paul-Henri is awesome!
I suppose you saw Geri Halliwell all over the cameras like THAT WOMAN at the Grand Prix? Well check out this pic from Cooperman. He swears the caption is real!
I found a great article about Stefan Bellof, the man who should have won the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. What if, I suppose…
Speaking of F1 Nostalgia, BadgerGP found a great pic of James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Mind if I drive Mr. Lauda? Speedhunters have a great pic on Facebook of an old Monaco programme too…
Some more quick links for you:
- Pat’s got some updated scores for his TMR Game
- Also Pat wrote about a Manic Street Preachers concert he attended with Lukeh & Mr. C.
- RachelC has some great pics from Motorsport at the Palace
- Lukeh found a great video about some mental extreme paraskiing down the Eiger Mountain
- Here’s an insane world record car jump performed before the Indy 500 started!
- Nick found some great footage from a GoPro HD camera used during Indoor Karting. I should go again soon…
- Finally, Jalopnik has a list of some cool car posters we may have had on our walls as kids…
So that’s all from me – see you in the comments and have a great day!
Happy Birthday, indeed, Andrea DeCrasheris !!!!!! :P
Great Daily, Gavin!
Seconded!
I still can't believe that Geri Halliwell asked Newey if he changed the tyres! Why do people go to F1 races if they don't know who's who?
Girl Power! Right on there! :P
Exactly what where we trying to teach our daughters again with the Spice Girls ?????
Night sidepodders. I just realised I have to go see the Vogons (visa agency...really not the most charming creatures in the universe) in six hours.

The shuttle Atlantis is about to start its roll out to the launch pad. The exit from the vehicle assembly building at the start is the closest thing to Thunderbirds you will ever see.
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts135/status.html
I am not going to be around for the next 20 minutes so if it falls over someone can let me know
#sidepodspace
Permission has been given to the crew to close the payload bay doors so it looks like there will be a landing. The inside of payload bay doors are the radiators that cool the shuttle in orbit so they are only closed when mission control is sure there will be a landing.
#sidepodspace
2 hours till landing and everything is looking good. In just under an hour we will get the de-orbit burn if there is going to be a landing attempt
Blimey Steven, have you been up all night??
Good morning :)
Not yet
Morning
Wha? It's definitely morning now I'm afraid. This is me up.
It is still night
Ah I see. Well either way it's my birthday :)
Happy Birthday.
Another year older
#sidepodspace
Go for de-orbit burn.
The burn doesn't happen for 45 minutes yet and it is very unusual to get the go so early
Only a day :P
Good spin. On that logic every day is your birthday
Space shuttle landing in one hour 30 minutes

De-orbit burn just started. The shuttle is now committed to landing. Landing will be in one hour 5 minutes

45 minutes till the landing of the space shuttle Endeavour.
Morning :)
Thanks guys!
I nearly put that ;)
Yeah, she was the lady I had in mind whene we did that improv show for Sidepodradio and I was playing the airhead on the gridwalk. The sort of celebrity you dread to see on the grid :(
Nothing, they were just a bit of fun...
Is it? Happy Birthday Alison!
Morning
35 minutes to landing and 6000 miles to go
20 minutes to landing
You should be FBFBing this ;)
I don't have the power.
Usually with landings hardly anyone other than me comments until the last 15 minutes. Until then I am just an alarm clock so people don't miss it
I can't believe at the same time as they are landing one shuttle another is rolling out to the launch pad. Maybe NASA are trying to show they finally have got to grips with turning these round
15 minutes to landing
Is this the last shuttle?
I love hearing the speeds they're coming at...
I'm going to miss these :(
No. The last one is on its way to the launch pad now. It will be there in an hour and launches in July
They are ridiculous
Me too
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Alison
10 minutes to landing
I didnt find it, i was there!
I was on my outlap at the start and get passed at the top of the track at the beginning :)
It's very dark in Florida. Not sure how much we will see. Hope they have a thermocam
I've watched a night landing before, the runway is pretty well lit from memory
I see the HUD. Unfortunately the background is black
Is there a feed steven?
So gonna raid the NASA Image Gallery for some iMac 24" wallpapers :D
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts134/status.html
:D
3 minutes
Thank you!
I have wanted to watch a complete landing through the pilot's HUD for ages and when I finally get one it's pitch black and I can't see a thing
Better video
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html
Plummeting into Florida in pitch darkness with no power seems forboding....
You would think with NASA's budget they could afford some lights
Kinda hard to see you with the helmet and all!
Touchdown
Looked like a perfect landing
IS that fire normal?
And on fire still! Just like last time
Yes. It's from the auxiliary power units that power the hydraulics that control the flight surfaces when it is flying in the atmosphere
It happens every time
'Flying' in the atmosphere :D
Buzz Lightyear called it 'Falling, with style'
I think that applies here
Sums it up nicely
Happy Birthday Alison :)
How to make F1 even cooler. On the podium, open the champagne bottles . . . with a sword!
http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-open-a-bottle-of-champagne-with-a-sword
morning all
Morning Leigh. Hope you back feels better.
Cheers Eric,
Shrouded in deep heat at the minute, so not too bad - how are you?
:)
Just keep Sutil away from the podium then ;)
Doing well, mired deep in the adventure that is audio editting at the moment.
Two bits of news this morning:
"New F Renault 3.5 Chassis Revealed" http://www.motorstv.com/car/single-seater/world-series-by-renault/27052011/third-generation-fr-35-chassis-unveiled
and
What did you do?
I used to get awful lower back pain - especially when running. But I started doing situps each morning and I feel so much better for it!
Hey folks.
Can I just say - I LOVE the Hamilton interview remixes. Reminds me a lot of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBYd9UVBGTs
Lovely - I'm taking a break from that this week. Thinking of sorting something for Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks
It's an old lower back problem that I twinge occasionally
I have that sort of ache from work. I was tempted to send Leigh a case of Tiger Balm when he mentioned it yesterday.
I think I did something to myself when cycling yesterday
:/
To your back??
My back is quite sensitive, so even the lightest of things can set it off (cycling position, etc) - on the other hand, I can do rugged stuff and not feel a thing...
However, I do have a punnet strawberries with me
:)
Fair enough. I guess adjusting your handlebar height is probably necessary then.
Better to eat those than put them on your back eh?
I've done it already - it's as comfortable as I can get it. It doesn't help that I am quite tall either
I was going to get experimental, but I suppose yuo're right
If you wear a backpack while cycling, tighten the straps a bit.
Is your frame too short maybe? I'm not a short person but my height is all from my legs and my last bike had a frame that was too long for me. Makes you sit all weird. I completely didn't notice how wrong it was until I had a new one though.
Quite possible I think. My previous bike - although horrible - had a taller frame.
Mine is a hybrid of a city bike and a racing bike. Since I got it in September I must have done about 1,200 km on it.
Yesterday though, the cycle light attached to the rear went loose and the wheel nuts got loose which meant that the chain came off. So when I got home I tightened the bolts like made and performed a little bike maintenance...
And that karting helmet cam is a thing of beauty too. A bit disappointed we only saw this in F1 for a grand total of... 2 corners? They should bring it back!
Interesting
I thought so too. As I said earlier, he's doing what I thought he would...
I was expecting him to beat Petrov. He is doing it on points, but not by as much as I thought he would.
Where Heidfeld is beating Petrov on points, I think Petrov is winning on overall performance.
Not bad for a pay driver eh? ;)
And a more optimistic post from Joe:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/bahrain-2/
I always said he needed time to flourish - a mark of his career really.
:D
Not bad at all. And it's that level that Maldonado has to at least match. They're in similar situations (matched up against an decent-paced but uber-veteran teammate), so it's a somewhat fair comparison. Mind you, Petrov took until Hungary to finally be on the pace. So I think we need to give Maldonado the same amount of time as well.
Well he beat Rubens in Monaco...
Exactly - look how long it took the Hulk to settle last year too.
Until he crashed out with Hamilton. But even giving Pastor the benefit of the doubt, he'll need a second breakout race to prove it wasn't a fluke. See Hulk's pole in Brazil and Petrov's defensive drive in Abu Dhabi.
Fair point. Could be a fluke, but seeing his position I am sure Williams will give him the benefit of the doubt for a long time...
I hope she drags heikki over here for xmas!
@KataHyde: "Sad day for me today, my parents have moved to Abu Dhabi. Not sure when I'll see them next :-("
For those with spare time this evening, a preview of Senna is being shown at Riverside Studio Cinema in London tonight
http://www.riversidestudios.co.uk/cgi-bin/page.pl?l=1302255704
Kinda weird to call it a preview :P
Technically it is. There was supposed to be a Q&A with the director, but I gather that part has been cancelled
:D
Niiiick how well do you know the Quayside? Can you help me if I get lost (again?)
Yes
Just back from a bit of a car chase http://yfrog.com/h3w2gbkqj

That's great!
A mate of mine who does some contract work on yas has told me they were warned a few days ago the GP date may change
...can't see it myself though, moving all the concerts and stuff would probably be nearly impossible
ooh any more info than that?
Bernie did an interview yesterday that was as good as saying Bahrain will be on. Won't know for sure until this week I suppose
But then Joe says that the teams have refused the date?
A battle will ensue... only in F1.
South Africa 1982, anyone..?
Nah... the teams will roll over and take the money. This will be a proper test for FOTA though.
He also told me that he me got a puncture on sunday evening ;)
Its probably nothing, just to warn them it could happen i would think.
I dont even know where it came from.
So Pirelli may have issues then? ;)
I suspect a lot of the team owners want it to happen so they dont have to do any refunds to sponsors. The team personel on the other hand probably dont.
Nobody is saying too much because they want to claim they 'had to go' in case they are criticized

Dany should keep doing that. The sooner he's out of the picture, the better.
On another note, how I'd LOVE Benetton to return to the team they won their championship with.
Sorry?
I wonder how big his mouth is, because his keeping getting stuck it in?
FTA:
What better backer could there be than their old backer? Enter Benetton.
He has experience at it - he's been doing it for years!
Is Rocco still interested though?
Wow, that's a bit of a stretch from that passage!
Probably not. But it doesn't hurt to dream. :)
I probably shouldn't stay up for men's matches tonight as tomorrow is a running day which means early start. But I really want to watch so I will and I'll suffer at another time :)
Hehe. We can be mean about Murray again.
hehe. I think my telly will probably show Rafa v Sodders though
noooo!!
Hey all!
Oh dear..... I'm a very tired Leigh this afternoon
:/
Ah yes there's Rafa
and the internet is holding up again so far :) i think it's cause most people have left halls now. :(
woah.. Chela is the oldest guy left in the competition?.. goodness and i though F1 drivers were young..
I also may not run tomorrow as my shins are still quite sore and I'm scared of making it worse. That means I need less sleep :)
It helped him!
oh no! what did you do to your shins amy?
ah .. i see. You can be mean about him if he does rubbish again then.. :)
just running, it's a hard muscle to stretch properly :(
it scares me that Roger is younger than two of my exes because I always think of him as the elder statesman of tennis.
:( oh no! my old dance teacher used to say that after exercise you should have a warm bath and stretch your muscles there too.. it can help muscle pain, maybe that would help you?
how old is Roger? cause Chela is only 31, and he's the oldest guy, i thought Roger was around the same age?
I think running 7km for the first time ever was a shock to the system! I have warm baths quite often as I'm still making up for 12 years of living in houses with no bathtubs and I'm currently lying on my stomach trying to smoosh my legs into my electric blanket haha. Its actually quite comfy :)
he'll be 30 in August
So far this is a lot more rafa v sod 2010 than Rafa v sod 2009
hehe i love the idea that you have an electric blanket.. i somehow thought that Australia may not need them cause it's kinda warm there.. but i suppose it's all relative :)
Paris looks windy
omg! honestly thought he was around 32-35!
im alwaaaaays cold. Everyone at work is whining at the moment that the heating is too high and I'm like "finally, I don't need to wear my blanket at my desk"
Amy, can you keep me up to date with the scores from the Rafa match, BBC only want to show Murray.
I know! It just feels odd that he's still in his 20s. Maybe it's the 11 year relationship with Mirka that throws me.
as long as you keep me up to date with Muzz, I am ipadding and im sick of switching between apps. Sometimes a split screen would be nice :) (3-0, Nadal)
Not surprised really - tennis players tend to be in the spotlight from such an incredibly young age
hehe! That's like my friend here at uni, our flat is always too hot, but she always wears thick jumpers! i looooovvveeee being cold, but even i get too cold at my house.. not sure how pamela coped at my house..
much less these days, Tomic was the youngest man in the draw at 18 and he's definitely nowhere near fulltime ATP tour level yet. Long gone are the days of 16 and 17 year olds winning slams.
I know what you mean though :)
hehe okay deal.
(4-1 Chela) :(
looks like Rafa will have an easy semi too. Bah. ;) #tryingtojinxhim
hehehe i like that hashtag :)
I think I'll sleep after first set. Electric blanket has made me so warm I'm suddenly sleepy
woot woot! (3-4 Chela)
hehe i don't blame you, i think i would too after you late night yesterday! :)
and Wimbledon is so soon and oddly that little one hour time difference makes it sooo much worse to watch than the French
Wimbledon is not allowed to be soon. I'm not ready for it.
I am seeing double the ads for it because it's on free to air and pay tv this year here.
I kind of want it to get here since it starts June 20 and that's when we get details of our next Olympic ticket sale. I'm rather obsessing over it so I'd like it over and done with so I can get my mind back :)
4-2 Nadal
Murray is making this first set hard work.
so far 3-5 Chela.. goodness me Murray come on..
Blimey, that was good. The rallies are so long on clay.
i missed it! :( went to the kitchen to get a drink :(
It was a great point for Murray but he's ruined it now.
it doesn't surprise me (the ruining it not the good point)
come on Murray!
woahhh.. lucky he missed that//
Painful week for JR Hildebrand - he's doing the Indy 500 media tour and has to retell his last corner crash over and over and over again to US TV stations and talk shows.
I bet that's a barrel of laughs.
Hello Everyone.
I am trying to teak my E-mail program. I just wondering if an E-mail message I sent to Sidepodcast yesterday was able to put a smile on Christine's face....
if not I miight have to modify the emotions delivery system of my E-mail program.
5-5!!! :)
I did get the email, haven't had a chance to read it yet.
Rafa takes first set 6-4, all set for sleep although flatmate has just come home and is having a loud conversation, no need to shout at 1am I say!
aw! my flatmates were like that. They've gone home now though :( so it's just me (and my almost no existent flatmates) left.
come on Murray, finish this first set please!
:(
it is kinda sad. All of the boys have gone now :( i still have my girlies, but they don't live in the flat, so it means it's still a bit quiet here.
On the plus side i can play my music as load as i like now :)
He did it!
Wohooooo!!! Go Murray! 1st done, 2 more please :)
Murray has been very noisy recently when he's been playing. I'm sure he never used to be this loud!
:D
I can see it now: "Lou - The Neighbourhood Hellraiser". You might even get your own documentary on ITV
;)
Hi folks.
Looks like Mr Tony Fernandes, for some bizzarre reason, thinks he might try and buy West Ham, God knows why he would do that: http://twitter.com/#!/tonyfernandes/status/75929939945324544
And, this is what it has come to in FIFA: http://twitpic.com/55hfbs
Ooooohhh.... and a happy birthday to Mr Brundle - a youthful 52 !!
haha! nahh never, not compared to my neighbours anyways :)
:D
He's just changed into a different colour top. That's cheating.
it makes it easier to tell them apart. I did get a bit confused yesterday when both Murray and the other guy were in the same shade of blue :)
I don't like yellow. But you're right. Just having different coloured shorts is not helpful.
nah i'm not a fan of yellow either. Least he has a bit of black on too.. not the nicest shirt tho.
At one point yesterday i got confused between Murray and his opponent and celebrated when Murray lost a game :D
Commentators: "I miss Hawkeye." Hehe.
Andrew Castle has said 'no hawkeye here' sooo many times in the past few days i was beginning to get that impression :D
It's a bit silly really, because if you're playing on grass and there's no Hawkeye, you can't really do much about it. But here, there's just that tiny bit of dust in the wrong place to use as proof so then they could stand and argue about it all day.
so true! i would have thought it would be fairer to just have hawkeye at all masters tennis grounds.
ohh noo! that would have been awesome.. angry murray.
Net abuse!
in fairness he did stop himself getting too angry. I hope a photog got a pic of him sticking his tongue out tho, would make a good shot.
One day he is actually going to go green and turn into the Hulk, I know it.
:D
Hiya guys. Since I've tuned in to the tennis Murray keeps losing stuff. #sorryandy
quickly Christine, be mean about Murray... i don't want Chela to break him!
I just called him the Hulk, what else can I do??
i.. i.. i dunno.. we must do something.
stop being rubbish Andy!
Man I'm going back to work, he was winning when I was there!
Hehe. How is it?
I really like it. Today I had a sip of water from the water dispenser and stood there looking around thing 'Holy crap I work in an office'
I mean, yeah OK state the obvious much, but it just kind of hit me. Really liking it so far and it's nice to come from a day of work not angry at customers :)
I bet it is a bit warmer too.
Definitely! I remember what the feeling is like in my toes now :)
Another nice thing is that now you can go back to your old job and get angry at customers, just for old times sake. :)
BIRAMI WAS ON EARLIER?!?! AND I MISSED IT?? :(
and Jamie lost too... ohh too much bad news in the space of a minute!
Isn't he the guy you saw before? I remember you reeeeeeeallly liking him last year because he was awesome
I've never seen Birami play, but would pay alot of money to. He's a legend, 'tennis' finest entertainer' apparently. Amy's seen him play i think. Ahh he's brilliant, so so so funny. I loooooooovvvvveeeee watching him play. He doesn't play much anymore, but if you're lucky enough to see him play it's an experience you'll never forget. look him up on youtube. true legend, hilarious tennis player.
Finally!
Ahh, that may be where I got it from, I just had recollection of someone saying in the comment they'd seen him play.
Will youtube him now though!
at last!! woot woot!!
That was harder than it needed tp be, silly Andy. But that's what he does best ;)
Good montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6Vqp6UveIU
i've never seen any pros play tennis. I will have done come November tho! Thinking of treating mum to some expensive tickets to the masters 'fun' events at the royal albert hall too .. so maybe get to see two days worth of tennis this year :)
yes!! hehe love him :)
I'm only 2 minutes in and already mind = way beyond blown
This is brilliant!
i saw him when i was younger on tv and he was brilliant, i think it was wimbledon and he had a chair he sat on between shots. Another time i saw him jump over the net with his team mate and hit the ball back to himself. Push ups between shots are another of his favourites. love it!
Scaring the ball boy is my favourite.
Slow mo invisible tennis = genius!
That was absolutely awesome. What a dude!
:D he's sooo awesome. i wish you could buy a ticket to a game of tennis knowing who would play so i could def go see him.
Does Bahrami have any younger "understudies"? It would be a shame to see this man's style and flair disappear after he retires.
i'm not sure, ask Amy when she wakes up. There are a few tennis players who, once they retire, do events like Bahrami does however he is by far the best and more loved. There is a whole 'fun' element to the AEGON Masters Tennis at the albert hall though. so i'm sure someone will continue when Bahrami can't anymore.
Wohooo!!!
come on Murray, match point..
Yaaay Andy :D
yaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
Semi final, i'll take that :)
Two quality semi finals, bring it on :)

Hey.
It's 86 degrees in my classroom right now.
(30C)
Hey Kai
That's not good. No A/C then, windows open or is that forbidden?
I scanned the comments and saw Jordan's greeting!
So...
Happy Birthday, Alison! :D
#nothere
Windows are open, it's just baking hot with a very gross dew point, so the humidity is very high, too. There's just no way around it. 3 fans going right now.
A/C is too expensive to retrofit most public schools built over 20 years ago.
Yes, happy birthday to you! :)
Sounds perfect
By all means, you can HAVE it. We're all sweating up a storm.
And speaking of storms....we have a tornado watch until 8pm.
Kai,
How did your weekend training thing turn out?
Wow. Fantastic. I've been trying to recover because it was really exhausting, like in a good way, and I also set up my first appointments to practice the whole process with my friend. I start today with those practice sessions.
It's a great process for problem solving and helping people meet their goals. I love it. It's me. I can't wait to get this going as a proper practice! woo hoo!
Fantastic
It's such a simple technique, but it is really powerful, too. It's not complicated, but it works. And I can see now how all of the experience I have had in my working and personal life, all the different things I've been interested in, including the voice over training, fits perfectly into this work. It's like I've been working toward this without knowing it the whole time. :)
And the trainer himself was great. He was really funny, and really smart, and we got all practical stuff to use immediately, no froo froo B.S. It appealed to my quest for efficiency.
It couldn't have been much more positive than that
Sometimes you just walk turn a corner and find yourself exactly where you wanted to go without having a clue that you were close
Perfectly put. That's just how it feels.
I'll specialize in Stress Management for Teachers (teach whatcha know! :) ) and also Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution for Kids.
Two days training and you are a specialist? :)
oh, I've been a specialist in dealing with stress my whole life. ;)
But seriously, every life coach specializes in an area, so that's where I'll start and see where it lead.
Yes, the training is short, but now I'm certified, and he packed in everything I need to get started in a whopper of a 2 day program. I was skeptical at first, too, but I can definitely do this.
Steven, the reason why most of us find themselves at a corner is that they painted the floor from the door instead of towards the door.....
:D
I think you would have to specialise in an area where you have background knowledge and understanding
Very true :D
Yeah, I would hope people would do that. Teaching and kids? yep. Got it.:)
Dealing with stress is a lot easier if you have a shark tank. Just throw the source of the "stress
" in when JAWS is Hungary. :p
Tony Fernandes has put in a new bid for West Ham United. (They are a football team in London for those not familiar with English football)
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/01062011/58/premier-league-allardyce-bemused-bid-west-ham.html
:)
I have to run, folks. I'm glad I got a chance to say hello, I've been meaning to for days.
See ya Kai
Wonder how they'll look in Green and Yellow?
Jake may approve
Its almost like he doesn't want me to like him....
Happy birthday Alison.
Later
:D
I am sure Christine won't be happy that he bought a team that wears claret and blue
Spurs are better off not moving to the Olympic stadium
He disagreed with something that ate him?
Hi guys...
Anyone got any Olympic tickets?...
Or is that causing the stress?...
Hi world!
Still waiting
Hi Ms Snowcat, hi Marti
I'm moaning with the fact they are West Ham more than anything.
I bid for one thing that should be so unpopular and still haven't got owt.
Hi Marti...
Oooh we've been targeted by scammers!
Different numbers have been calling us from the US all evening. So I pick up one and an Indian Gentleman asks for my wife. I tell him he's not speaking to her so he asks my name. All I reply is who he is calling from - he says "Windows operating services" - that he's filling out a survey because he's received error messages...
...So I tell him to stop harassing us, that he's scamming us because he's not calling on behalf of Microsoft, that we don't even own a PC and that if he keeps calling us we will refer him to the authorities. He tries to deny all of this so I just asked him again to stop calling us and hung up!
I don't get why these people don't give up when it's clear they aren't talking to someone gullible enough for their opportunism
If you have the number they're calling from you might be able to figure out who they are.
http://whocallsme.com/
I picked up the phone one day at my mother's and had the same call. Whoever they are they are not programmed for questions. I don't know where they were calling from but when I suggested that he was in India he denied it and said he was in England. I asked him where in England and he said he was in Manchester United.
Hehehehe.
Don't know. We had it at work once where someone was calling pretending to be a colleague in Houston. She almost had us fooled until she said that she couldn't get the info she needed because it was night time - but when she called it was 6am in Houston!
He seemed very surprised when I explained that was a football team and not a place
:D :D :D
That is brilliant.
ahhh yes the old trafford call centre, up there with the stamford bridge telesales centre and the wembley sales call beurau.
Just as well his team wasn't Liverpool
In down town Calcutta
I'd love to know how these people got our name and number as it's ex directory
Small world :D
Or Kolkata FC, as it's known locally
Hi Bassano...
Rang my banking team to find out if I'd had a call for money and I had... hurrah...
Two pairs out of three requested... one pair for equestrian (of course) and one pair for athletics....
Lucky you, well done
I am thrilled...
Talking to friends it's the more expensive tickets that have been asier to get whilst the cheaper ones seem to have been very over subscribed...
Eveningggg :)
I have managed to shake off my mother so my evening is looking up :)
Hi Alison
You have some ego boosting comment trawling to do :D
evening alison, happy birthday!
Evening
Your mother was stalking you?
Oh cripes.
She rang me on Monday and INSISTED she come see me today. We've been in Salford. Rock and roll.
Yeah, no cake but lots of well wishers
Happy birthday :)
It's what mothers do best isn't it?...
That must have been nice for you
You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment. :)
I told her I was working initially but she said she'd see me on my tea break so I had to ring her back and tell her I'd got the day off. She wanted to stay over and everything so a day out in Salford is probably a light escape....
I now see why So'ton is so appealing ;)
Errm yeah. I think my sister is moving to Ireland and I'm beginning to think a bit of water might not be a bad thing :P
Is Mummy watching then?....
Or you could just not answer the phone.
No. I ran away from home a long time ago :)
That's what I do, voicemail is my security guard
This would be why she is stalking you then...
How do I stop her popping into work to see me??
Not move to the same city as your relatives?
Or be transferred to a new store, 'at short notice' :D
You only have to fess up after she finds you no longer there
That's what she wanted to do today for example. She would come 150 miles on the train to do it which is frankly ridiculous!
She is not stalking me
She's stalking someone else?
[this is rapidly descending into silliness]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu7vySQbgXI
She's just a bit clingy.....
I think Sidepodcast broke the extreme paraskiing link from the Daily
Mum got that one. She shouted at them.
:D
Does it work if you ask them not to call again?
You think
I had a mum like that once, until I trained her
That's epic :D
Happy birthday Alison
They never called my mother again but I think ten minutes of me telling him he was a liar and asking questions he didn't have an answer to was enough to guarantee no more calls
Hah, no way
That's pretty much what I did. I accused him of being a scammer and that if he kept calling me I would refer him to the authorities.
I've been getting calls for over a week from Carphone Warehouse to upgrade my phone, despite telling them I'd already done it
I had a Carphone Warehouse rep phone me on Monday [after several missed calls]
After me telling him to "cut to the chase", "I'm waiting for the next iPhone" and "I'm not some idiot who buys things from cold callers" he gave up :D
Snap. WEll, one day at least
Ah I had home insurance people ringing me twice a day while I was abroad to get me to renew. He finally got hold of me yesterday. I was a bit like take the hint? leave me alone!
Chances are, he's not from CPW but they either have access to their sales data or they use blocks of CPW sold numbers
Hmmm...
Is this in the unsolved crime section?... most Mums are not trainable...
you have to start when your young, by your mid 30s you may be somewhere close
Hahaha I thought I had it sussed. I never used to speak to my parents at all when I first left home but somehow we've regressed.
Probably. Like the number of people who ring businesses pretending to be with the Yellow Pages, asking to confirm your details
Fraud and scams everywhere today it seems. I just got off the phone with my bank. Some very suspicious charges coming through from Seoul. I just had my card turned off and a new one issued. Seems like I'll be without a bank card for at least a week or two now.
Retina recognition has to be the way forward, with maybe fingerprint and voice as options though the latter is open to easy abuse I suppose
Love these photos of endeavour, 27 is quite something
http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/06/endeavours-final-mission/100078/
#sidepodspace
34 looks like a film or something :)
#6: Astronaut training starts young these days
#13 is awesome, lift off through the haze
#20 is a Tie Fighter, it's all starting to become clearer now
Beware of Darth when he retires from Mercedes
:D
Though grainy, #35 & #36 are great night time landing shots
Odd thought, do they have dry cleaning on the ISS? How do they do their laundry?
Evening folks,
Anyone here heard the new new from Group Lotus..?
http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/business/up_to_99_jobs_could_be_lost_at_lotus_1_909472
:/
Never seen anything like that before. Makes it look like it is really in space.
28 and 31 give a great idea of the scale of the ISS
#21 reminds me so much of a similar print I have of Challenger. It's matted & framed on my wall. Think I might have to get a print of this Endeavor one as well.
http://www.forge22.com/wallpaper/standard/space/Space Shuttle Challenger in orbit 1600x1200.jpg
I have no idea
Bleh, better linkage Shuttle Challenger in orbit
Pretty!
How does that tie in with making 5 times as many cars?
By coincidence I was reading Joe's piece on GL
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/a-log-jam-at-renault-f1/
Honestly, if we ever come up with a reliable secure Retina Recognition Security system I am going to make a fortune selling eyepatches or glass eyeballs to fraud victums....
Specifically, it sounds like imminent cuts at Lotus Cars [road division] :(
don't you know humans are being replaced by robots?
There's that many ex-F1 drivers ?
UK Immigration already uses it
Luca Badoer is looking for something to do
There's that many ex-F1 drivers ?
Luca Badoer is looking for something to do
Lotus is trying to produce five times more cars not LESSEN production by five times....
It doesn't!
Bahar doesn't know that (or anything it seems)
I am looking for investors in my replacement glass eye or eyepatch idea...... They only got around that idea in Thgnderball which was what, 1968 ? or something like that?
Lotus Eyes?
You should read Joe's piece. A few months ago he was asking Proton for gazillions of dollars and now he has told them Lotus has to tie up with a global manufacturer. I know money grew on trees when he was at Red Bull but this is crazy
I saw it this morning - it made me chuckle with tears
Think I have just read this story now.
The car ==> a Renault sponoured by Lotus and powered by Cosworth, I think needs a Red and Gold Livery similar to Lotus' 1968 sponourship by Golf Leaf Cigarettes to complete the farce, if you ask me...
Nick Wirth is out of Virgin Racing
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91924
Whoops
Boom, Wirth is out.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91924
"The decision has been taken that the team will take greater control of its own destiny," said Marussia Virgin CEO Andy Webb in a statement to AUTOSPORT.
Orrrr: "We want a wind tunnel!!"
Probably why Wirth has been working closely with Dallara for the new IndyCar lately
"Virgin is also set to drop its all-CFD development strategy, which was key to it being able to afford to move into F1 in the first place." - Edd Straw
Sounds like a movie trailer.
In a world, where computers control the destiny of a car...
That is huge. It means that Virgin has to take on a factory load of staff and finance it. I wonder what John Booth and Manor will do if the whole operation moves to Leafield.
Finally, Virgin can progress...
#cfdfail
...or get beaten by Hispania again
Maybe they can get the blue peter team to make their car for a summer project, get kids to draw in their ideas and aerodynamics and stuff, probably be more useful than CFD was
You have to wonder how they are going to design next year's car if they are in the process of setting up a factory and finding a design team?
Gotta say.. it looks more like a power play from Marussia than it does a lack of faith in CFD
Here we go. It's Honda, not Dallara:
"...it is widely rumored that Honda has tabbed its current partners at Wirth Research to design and develop its 2012 aero kit.
Nick Wirth’s UK-based firm has worked with Honda for almost a decade, undertaking development work on behalf of the Japanese manufacturer in open-wheel and sports car racing, and would be a logical fit for the project."
That was in March and rumours of it happening grew stronger during May.
That makes sense.
Makes more sense. Why would Dallara sub-con aero work?
I got mixed up, because it was mentioned by Tony Cotman while talking about the Dallara tub
I think Indycar is goingto get very confusing when there is a chassis by one manufacturer, an aero kit by another and the team is called something entirely different
Awkward tweet of the day - re; Wirth Engineering:
No reply as of yet.
OOPS
Dallara chassis won't get a mention - the car will be called by its aero-kit provided
Foot in mouth.
Ouch
I know that is the plan but commentators and journalists are bound to mention it
Maybe - won't really know until later I suppose
Ping - 2011 Monaco GP
http://toomuchracing.com/2011/06/01/2011-monaco-grand-prix/
Indy 500 write-up coming soon (or at last - whichever).
:)
I'll have one tomorrow :)

Music ping - http://toata.co.uk/index.php/2011/06/198-now-thats-what-i-call-music/
Am having all kinds of trouble tonight with Wordpress so apologies if the videos are being crap, now the twitter stuff is being annoying. It's driven me a bit mad so I'm off to bed, night!
I'm going to bed too.
Night night
Night
This was on tv live as it happened, the first tornado that touched down today in Springfield, Massachusetts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5fX072sQH8&feature=youtu.be
oops, I'm home now. :)
I had no idea they had tornadoes there
We do from time to time, but they are rare. The last tornado in the Northeast was 3 years ago, I heard.
There must be somewhere over there that does not get tornadoes or earthquakes or the like
ah comments i'm a bit lonely. i miss my flatmates.
If I find it, I'll let you know. I can't think of anywhere now. I don't hear of a lot of natural disasters in Montana.
Hi Lou.
Hello. how is everyone?
They have some roads with no speed limits too
Hi Lou. Did you see the gorgeous space photos shared earlier?
Sorry you're lonely. I know that feeling when people leave school for summer. :(
Everyone seems good. Today is Alison's birthday. Or it was until a couple of minutes ago
It's Big Sky country out there....beautiful. But lots of gun racks in pick up trucks.
ohhh noo! i went out just after all the tennis stopped and have just got back.
walking into a silent flat (which is usually very loud) is really kinda sad. The boys keep texting me to make sure i'm not lonely but it's strange not hearing them shouting to each other down the corridor and things. Kinda just wanna go home now, there's nothing left of the fun of our flat..
oh no! i missed it, Happy belated Birthday Alison!!
Maybe with the high speed limits there will be fewer of those
Never mind. You will soon be on holiday and desperate to get back to start next year
i'm already a bit desperate to start next year :) i love uni. Not living with the boys next year so it's a bit sad. however better to concentrate on the great year rather than the silent flat. Just feels strange.
How about a photo essay of The Silent Flat? You can explore it (and maybe use it to chill out for when it gets too loud in a few months) :)
:D
How will you cope without the boys?
hehehe i'll be living with some of my girl friends so there wont really be loud music next year, but i am thinking about doing a bit of reading/writing exploring some topics we cover next year in preparation :)
strangely i'm not too sure. I look after them and they look after me.. sharing a flat with 3 boys will be different to sharing with 3 girls i'm sure. Will be interesting to see the difference tho! :)
Hopefully we'll all get housing sorted soon and be nearish each other, so i can still cook for 10 people :)
It will be very different I guess.
:D
hehe cleaner kitchen for a start! :)
i'm still trying to work out how cooking for 10 people a couple of times a week feels easier than cooking for 1. :)
And maybe messier bathroom, but not necessarily.
ohh interesting. yes probably :)
I find the cooking itself is arduous and kind of annoying, no matter the quantity.
No washing up?
I think cooking has different effects on everyone. It weirdly makes me very happy, the more i have to do the better. although it does mean dinner is served at like.. 9pm
ohhh true. but the boys usually do that for me anyways :D
Great. Can you make something for me? I don't feel like making dinner.
Thanks :)
Next year you can visit them, cook there and then leave the washing up behind you
erm.. it may be cold by the time it gets to you.. takeaway?
ohhh now that is a good idea!
I'm already tucked in for the evening, so I'll get up and make something.
Steven always has such clever ideas....usually involving volunteering or other people's time. ;)
:D
You said everyone should specialise in what they are good at
right, think i'm gonna settle for going to bed. nighty night all! xx
hehe!!
Waffles and eggs for dinner, done. Yum.
Night Lou. Sweet dreams.
Night Lou

he always plays at slams so if you got a ground pass to Wimbledon you could definitely go see him, the ground passes aren't that popular once all the "big names" head to the main courts so you'd get one easily.
Novak, Roddick and Roger are the funniest by far when they do charity events, I could see any of them doing something like that when they're older.
