Apparently, not only is it the first day of a brand new month, it is also International Children's Day. With that in mind, we should be very aware of the cry "Won't somebody think of the children?" which has been used a couple of times in the comments already this week. Here are some of the other things we are discussing:
- Alex Wurz and his new team Superfund are set to make a heroic entrance into F1 - if they are selected, of course. The team have funding in place but aren't getting anything organised until they get the nod. It will be good to see Mr Wurz back in the sport, although I can't see him in the team principal role. Mr C thinks he might be quite good as the boss, however.
- It's also Martin Brundle's birthday today, which is only really interesting because I was thinking about Alex Brundle and his performance in F2. I kept an eye on the results, and find myself interested in Brundle Jr, and Natacha Gachnang, and that is pretty much it. Anyone else catch it, interested in it, got a fave or already? Or couldn't care less?
- BMW have confirmed in their Turkey preview quotes (oooh, is it that time already?) that they'll be running the double decker diffuser. Is it going to make any difference for them? Or have they scuppered their own season this early on?
That'll do it for now. The replay of the live streaming show we did last night is up if you feel like watching, or the edited show should be out this evening. Don't forget to vote on the Circuit Cup semi final, and I'll see you in the comments.
Hello June
She's a feisty one this June I tell you.
BTW pinch, punch... first of the month
*cries* nnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooo it can't be June yet!!
For some reason my rss feed isn't working. It's newest post is the daily for the 30th. Doesn't really affect me, but might be worth looking at.
Yes, I have tryed refreshing it...
Do you have the podcast feed or the blog feed?
I assume it's the blog feed, as everything usually appears. I'm using Firefox 3 as well
Someone mentioned they were back to front the other day, maybe they got swapped back to how they should have been?
There's a play on Hey Jude in there, but I don't know the words well enough.
I had a mental image of the chick in walk the line...
When you say refreshing it, do you mean you deleted it and re-added? Try that.
Ok, will do
Ok. Turns out, I'm using sidepodcast.com/feed. This hasn't been updated since 30th May daily post. However, that wasn't the link Mr C gave in the debrief tonight. Unfortunatly, I can't remember what the link was. Therefore, I'm going to look through the video of the debrief to find it!
Nope. The link Mr C gave links to the same page. Ah, well.
Since its quiet i thought i would register my surprise at the fact that Silver-Grey is Bernie's favourite colour. Who would have thought?
Sounds like he is keeping in with McLaren to annoy Ferrari
hehe, it was about 8 years ago, Joe commenting on his fleet of 20 odd trucks
http://www.grandprix.com/ft/ftjs018.html
Maybe they should start getting ready for 2010. I mean, they have to start planning now to make sure they fall behind the new entries right?
Kubica was right in hindsight. Had a chance for the driver's title until the 2nd to last race but no, Theissen has to plan for 2009. Now if where not for the facts that there is a bit of blue in the car'scolour scheme and that Lou is not cheer thme on I would swear they are Honda in all their disfunctional glory...
Morning, everyone. How was the debrief?
Sexy as always, in other news there is now a naughty step in the wiki :(
Hmmm... A naughty step? Is this in the stages of addiction?
No. It is for people who Christine considers to have transgressed. mainly it is for Mr C
Hahaha! So this is like the naughty list on the chalkboard in the classroom? :D
Mr C's only on here once? I thought he made fun of her two nights in succession? :)
Its here, but stretches the truth
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+Naughty+Step
Exactly. A lot of people make their children spend 5 minutes on the second stair if they are naughty.
I just saw that. How am I on the naughty step? Victimisation.
So glad the house i grew up in didn't have stairs :D
You mean it redefines the truth... Careful now, Christine might see what you're up to, eh? :P
The trouble is that there is no appeal against the naughty step.
Were you part of the conversation with Mr C 3 nights ago?
I simply warned him that he would have to buy Christine another Milky Bar. I don't see that as insulting
You'll have to appeal to the judge then. ;)
I simply asked if Paul's router had female sockets, and i'm there!
The point of the naughty step is that the child has to stay there until he has calmed down and apologised. Then the punishment is over. So it is impossible to appeal
Oh noooooooo... ;)
I apologised and was forgiven (I hope :D)
Still there!
From JA's latest entry:
Based on how that chalkboard looks, it's like Hotel California. :D
Sounds like another attempt to split FOTA. I can't believe Ferrari are any more committed than any other team
They could easily operate a B-team and call it something else, no need for them to be there properly
They're not, but Max may oblige them to stay. If that happens, though, LDM will be fuming. He'd probably lead the FOTA pullout himself.
They could also point to the FOTA entry and said they entered in good faith and the FIA rejected them, breaking the contract
Good point made there, Nick... But I think it's the principle of it that LDM will be fuming about. Knowing him, I don't think he'd go for B-teams...
Which is why the FIA can say that they're legally obliged to enter the championship, based on the court decision...
They have entered, albeit outside the rules, but under FOTA they can say the entry was parley to circumstances beyond their control. Williams entry poses a problem, but they could then argue they were not obliged to sacrifice wider interests in the previous contract
Good point.
Pitpass is only reporting on this issue right now. Alia has beaten them by a full day. ;)
For once I am going to bed at a sensible-ish time.
Good night all.
That being 3 AM. :P Night Steven.
Any computer experts, see here please:
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7431/dsc00402y.jpg
What the hell? How do I sort it?
BIG HAMMER!
Seriously, give it a big slap on the side that's faulty
Yow! Maybe the monitor settings just went mad? You might just need to rejig the settings. :)
Yeah, that works too. :P
Shame it doesnt for LCD's...
Did it work Joe?
Any large magnets near by?
Good point - magnets may be distorting the monitor image. I've known voltage regulators that cause this problem too sometimes.
Up so early, Alex?
Pretty much always up around 5:30 uk time to go to work. Most of the time just catching up with comments and not making any because I've got to catch a train.
5:30?... *checks time* 6:15?!!!! ahh man :( so little time...
What are you up for this morning Lou, just school in general?
haven't been to sleep :( have been doing textiles since yesterday. i have a textiles deadline today :(
Oh no! :(
you're all in trouble
what did we do?
did we do something wrong? or are you just referring to out troubled state in general?
too much talk of Glock replacing Heikki last night ;)
lol they did say sorry ;)
I laughed that any Heikki criticism comes with an Amy apology :D Even I can see he has retired 4 times! :D
We care for you! :D
So you'd understand if McLaren replaced Heikki with Timo?
I don't like it, but I seriously can't see him in the team past the end of the year.
Is Amy going to need her own naughty step?
Anyone looked into the full F2 line up? If so have you noticed how it's full of old names; be it by fortune or inheritance there is:
Brundle
Palmer (as in Formula Audi Palmer)
J.Clarke
Surtees
Not to mention Séb cousin
Where do you think he'd end up?
Heh. She can have one that would rival Christine's. :D
Heck, the bigger thing to note is that most of them came from Formula Palmer Audi. There wasn't too much interest from those outside that formula, it seems...
Kemblewatch - Monday.
A glorious day and Williams are already running. You'll need to come into the airfield and past the main hangars as the view from the main road is obscured - all the set up for the air show is in the way...
Cheers,
Rob
not a clue.
I am notoriously bad at silly seasoning
Williams seem to be spending a lot of time at Kemble - I wonder if there's a specific issue they're trying to pin down?
:D
That said, I can see him back at Renault (especially if Alonso leaves and they end up with 2 empty seats).
Since its quiet i thought i would register my surprise at the fact that Silver-Grey is Bernie’s favourite colour. Who would have thought? {Comment #15}
To be fair, that's pretty much the colour of his wardrobe and motorhome. Still, it's a surprise to me he was that specific.
Sounds like another attempt to split FOTA. I can’t believe Ferrari are any more committed than any other team {Comment #40}
That could be difficult. Ferrari made the same conditions as everyone else. Therefore, to accept Ferrari's entry, the FIA has to accept all the teams' entries. Otherwise it will have made the changes necessary to accomodate all the teams, but rejected teams that didn't need to be rejected. The only way the FIA could justify it is by allowing enough new teams in to reject those FOTA members it didn't like - and I don't think there are 11 new team entries in the air. Even if the Superfund team makes 7...
Of course, it could cite breach of contract, but since Ferrari is arguing the FIA already has in forcing through the 2010 regulations, that might not cut much ice in court.
Morning all
They’re not, but Max may oblige them to stay. If that happens, though, LDM will be fuming. He’d probably lead the FOTA pullout himself. {Comment #42}
They could sell/give the entry and obligations to some gullible individual, or perhaps one of the unsuccessful teams after the entry list is confirmed. That would meet the terms of the contract unless it has been very carefully written.
Good morning Flabbergash :)
Williams entry poses a problem, but they could then argue they were not obliged to sacrifice wider interests in the previous contract {Comment #46
Williams are arguing that under the contract they signed with Bernie in 2005, they too are bound by circumstances under control. (Force India have the same circumstances, but haven't made a big deal of it - yet).
Pitpass is only reporting on this issue right now. Alia has beaten them by a full day. {Comment #47}
Has Pitpass been reading some of my stuff ;) ? Having commented on it in several blogs as well as writing about it in my own, I have no way of knowing whether Pitpass actually reads my blog or not, but it's still nice to know that some of the news sites pay attention to the blogosphere...
How do I sort it? {Comment #50}
Um... ...degauss button (if your monitor has one)?
Do you have another monitor you can plug in? If so, try it. If it fixes the problem (and neither degaussing nor thumping the first monitor works), either get a professional to fix it or send it to recycling.
If it doesn't fix it, you may have a problem with your video driver settings (that screen is far enough into Windows that it could be a software problem). Try re-installing the video driver.
Moooooooorning everyone. it's June already, blimey.
Having investigated the Pitpass item, it doesn't look like they read me before writing it. Oh well...
Good morning, Lukeh :)
Kemble 1050
Williams are a lot busier today than usual - running pretty much non stop for the last 2 hours. Driving me nuts here in the office as I can't get out yet to go and watch - but can hear them!
Rob
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7431/dsc00402y.jpg
Any way I can sort that without buying a new monitor?
Wait, nevermind, just saw a comment in response to what I posted last night.
Unlikely.
Looks like the horizontal control has gone. Couple of things to try.
1) Percussive maintenance - hit the damn thing.
2) Move everything that has a power supply or magnets in it away from it and then leave it switched off for a few hours.
3) See 1 - but to relieve stress. ;)
4) Looks like a 17 monitor, so it's pretty unlikely to have a degauss function, but if it does it'll be in the menu options. Run that several times over a period of time.
More than likely - it's broken.
It might be fair to say that we might see more information about the Formula 1 game over the next few days as the gaming world has a big, big convention on named E3 where all the developers come out and release new information, show off new hardware and games etc and tend to give a great more detail into upcoming releases for the rest of the year, and with the PSP/Wii Formula One 2009 coming out in the Autumn, I'll be keeping my eye out for information just in case :)
She could be replacing Bourdais... and USF1 must sign Danica. I'm watching DTM only because of Katherine & Susie and their pink cars, plus they always seem bump into each other on track. That's mighty fun.
I knew it, I woke up today and felt I should've been somewhere else.
Williams are a lot busier today than usual - running pretty much non stop for the last 2 hours. {Comment #88}
Sounds like Williams are making the most of their running time. Hope they make improvements on that thing because something is amiss with their pace in qualifying and the races...
Morning all. Disregard the above. It fixed itself overnight!
it didn't. i read your comment and realised i'd ballsed up a code change on saturday. fixed it now though, so appreciate the alert ;)
lol. fair enough.
also, updated the following page, which contains all feed urls:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/feeds/
however, the old url's will simply redirect to these new ones and there's no need to change anything your end.
Right...hardest exam over! woot.
How are we all?
Good thanks. Listening to Steven Fry's new audio piece. How are you?
A lot better today, woohoo! Although it's still wayyyy too hot ;)
Not bad thanks, glad to be home.
Glad you're feeling better! It's a good temp here!
Anyone who wants to see something, frankly staggering....

It's just AMAZING
Amy's fears may not be unfounded, after all.
Tommy Haas took Set 1 from Roger Federer. :O
...woah! did not expact that.
Woooooo! :D
Very lucky.
Sebastian Leob's been knighted...or the french equivalent to knighthood....
Could someone have a look for a driver for an ATI Rage 128 Ultra card? I can't find any.
What OS?
Federer 1 set away from getting sent home... :(
lol jeez
XP.
You might not find one, as you've gathered, it's damn old. 7 years old this pc is actually, it's held up well with it''s 256 MB RAM.
I say use this as an excuse to get a new computer :P
Or use the fact your PC is terrible as an excuse to get a new one
Believe me, I would if I could. Maybe in a few months.
Should have one built in or available through Microsoft Update that will work.
Could try this one though.

I was having a nap, I am unhappy with what I wake up to see

How do you go from 2 sets down to a bagel. ROGER STOP IT.

I need to get food but I can't miss the end of this. Alllllmost there Rog!
Matches like this should never stop. Sim.Ply.Awe.....some!
too many of these and I WILL DIE
HOORAY
there we go, Fed gets it :)
phew, will soon catch my breath back!
Federer! OH YEAAAAAH!
time for food. I had a pie to make but I slept through dinner. I don't think my flatmate would appreciate me cooking at 11.40pm so I'm seeing a cereal dinner in my future
Mr C... Have you seen this?
http://wave.google.com/
It was mentioned the other night on here and mr c was talking about it.
I'm not sure what to make of it but when it's available I'll definitely give it a try. Just seems a lot in one thing and I like stuff simple personally :P
Interestingly I've seen a lot of people who have said this. The beauty of the system as far as I can see is that you could make twitter in it. It is really a protocol under the bonnet which is really cool. The federated implementation is awesome.
It's just that on top they've built a really neat (but complex) application on top. But you wouldn't have to use that application.
It's the difference between outlook and e-mail. I would guess we'll all be using the wave protocol instead of e-mail in a bit. But we won't just be using that front end we'll be using lots of different clients. Like now we use Outlook, gmail, Yahoo Mail, pine, etc.
think i said the other day that it's basically drop.io for email.
realtime is where it's at, baby!
Absolutely :)
The collaborative editing is something else! We would use it a lot in meetings.
have you seen this: http://etherpad.com/
basically the same thing. also, have you tried dropio's relatime presentation yet? not much use to spc, but i can see the appeal in an office environment.
I haven't, I'll take a look.
The thing that I really liked in the presentation was the part where you could grab the middle of a paragraph and ask a question and that information would be branched off into a tree conversation.
That mirrors the real world much more for me. I don't often sit down in different rooms where we all work on a document at the same time but much more likely a document will be distributed and all of the different people will have thoughts about all of the different parts. One department asks, "does this clause mean we won't be able to use this in Australia", another person says in reply to the question, "we asked legal about this and we're waiting for a reply", answer comes back, "Yes you won't be able to use this in Australia", Then somebody goes into the main doc and makes it say, "Note: This means you can't use this product in Australia". And later you can see why this note got added.
it's gonna make office's "track changes" look pretty antiquated, pretty quickly.
Abso-blinking-lutely
Afternoon all.
Any new teams announced entry form signing in thingy, today?
Afternoon
There's been no news at all. Nothing. Zlich. Zeeeeeeero.
it needs to stay that way... well till tomorrow anyways ;)
i love it. it's like we're following a normal sport!
No news is good news, as far as I'm concerned. Probably means that FIA and FOTA are talking in private...
:D
what's happening tomorrow?
although we should probably make something up to help gmm out. they must be struggling today.
Sports all about the politics anyway nowadays, football, cricket, baseball.
nothing, i'm just so busy atm news is the last thing i need :)
TEAM ROGER FEDERER
i don't think so - they made mention of March possibly having an entry. y'know, the March that was originally co-founded by an M Mosley...
:D
I think he'd be better off in Roland Garros than at the Place de la Concorde. :D
we've already had the Djokovic/F1 collision this year. I don't think I could handle another clash of sports :D
ooh. any other names we could drop into the hat? what teams took part in the first ever grand prix? bet some of them are ripe for a comeback.
Alfa Romeo, heard they like to race a bit.
alfa romeo? maserati? oh wait, LDM owns them now. :P
brm is a good name that was there, i think. can't think of other names, though. maybe bugatti should be mentioned?
Barrichello to leave Brawn and join Superfund; Says Wurz bribery is untrue
Ferrari Go Blue; Red 'so last year'
Eddie Jordan finds dictionary and 'enjoys English language'
Minardi enter 2010 car entry under name Stoddart Superstars
Hamilton proposes - to join Force India, not to Scherzinger
Take your pick
excellent! :)
:D
Love em all :)
Bernie Ecclestone buys himself out, in some money making scheme.
Guiness enter a F1 team, plans to win first race by getting everyone drunk.
I can see that happening if Brawn drop him for 2010.
They raced in blue at the end of 1964 - 45 years on, why not try it again? :D
The others are a tad too much for me. :P
yeah the Eddie Jordan one just feels wrong
Fernando Anando announced new manager of QPR.
Flav eventually decides to get rid of Nelson Piquet, replacing him with. Kazuki Nakajima.
:D
Nelsinho Piquet needs a new job, I'd put him there instead. Would give Flavio the pleasure of sacking him twice. :D
Kazuki? Why not go for broke? Sakon Yamamoto needs a drive! He was a Renault test driver. :D
Yeah. And when Alonso goes to Ferrari, Bring in Nakajima. What a partnership.
Hmm?
I haven't seen this mentioned... march Engineering have placed an entry into 2010
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090530093936.shtml
I just mentioned it 5 minutes ago, right?
But wait, no GMM sign... Maybe someone beat them to this one? ;)
I doubt this will get through, though. Fitton couldn't keep it open after 1992; why would it be any different now? For all we know, Max may have just whispered to him to get an entry in as a buffer against FOTA...
:D
Ooops... see I have GMM on the mind and this happens. Sorry!
GMM and Capsis are the same thing, aren't they?
I haven't seen this mentioned... march Engineering have placed an entry into 2010
;)
:D
I don't know if anyone has noticed... But apparently March might have lodged a 2010 entry.
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
I keep seeing Capsis as Capri Sun. Now that would be intresting.
;)
nope. capsis international are associated with f1-live. are they the parent company, or the publishers or something.
i guess capsis pay for the article to be written (and by written i mean copied and pasted). gmm are preferred source for capsis/f1-live but sometimes they use other sources.
at least i think that's how it works. must investigate sometime.
Oh, come on! :P
Ah, I see. I have seen the names next to each other so often, it merged into one thing :)
they can't be the parent company - ESPN bought the racing-live family, not the entire capsis company. more likely they are a minor news agency...
hehe. i think when espn purchased the racing-live company, they also acquired capsis. but what the difference is exactly is anyone's guess.
hmmm... maybe they are indeed a publisher on f1-live then?
they did? i thought they didn't...
that's not true journeyer.
you know the conversation we had about quoting facts...
lemme look it up. as far as i know, capsis wasn't acquired along with racing-live...
can't wait...
Hey everyone,
Have you guys heard the March might be entering in 2010!!!
It was
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/080805145338_1.shtml
Right, here's what I found: they're 2 different companies, so 2 different entities, albeit based in the same building.
ESPN announced acquiring Racing-Live (http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=4271683) with the article (http://www.autoracingdaily.com/news/industry-news/espn-digital-takes-over-racing-livecom/), but no announcement at all about Capsis (http://www.kompass.com/en/FR8500827).
join the crowd - 4th in line. :D
cheers nick.
nick's link says different.
however, it doesn't really matter, my objection is the quoting of facts that you don't actually know to be accurate.
Did you try Googling it?
I am missing the logic here:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75762
Yup. Nada.
Must be a different google :)
Morning all.
No suprise since they've been advertising F1-Live on their website and carring their stories for years now. It just formalizes the relationship.
That is precisely the reason why I don't get my F1 news from ESPN.
:)
I searched for CAPSIS International, and there's nothing about it...
Don't they have Dan Knutson? He's a pretty good guy - I think either Joe or Mike Dooson mentioned him too in a previous blog entry.
try:
espn capsis
links 3, 4 and 5 confirm espn also own capsis.
i recommend reading link 6 too.
I used magic, Its like a search engine with a kerrs system
or link 8, if you're on google.com.
:D
fair enough.
apologies.
i guess i should go to bed. no point staying up.
I am starting to wonder if only Williams Will be allowed to enter in 2010 and one team called FOTA, plus a whole bunch of useless entries that would make Super Aguri look well-funded, be allowed to race in 2010...
Meaning that Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Toyota, Brawn et all, have to come up with a comprise design to build a car...Sort of like an F1 version of Airbus...
And you guys think Japanese committee management was bad...
Dan is OK even though I've taken him to task about a couple of articles he has written. I haven’t seen any of his work around lately though.
At least he isn’t as bad as all the NASCAR guys they have on staff. Ed Hinton is terrible and always writes disparaging articles about open wheel racing every other month or so. The rest of the staff outside of Terry Blount are useless.
Final thing. I find it funny that ESPN has separate categories for “Racing” and “NASCAR.” More true than you could possible believe.
That the kind of carnage that should be shown on Pay per view.
It is probably just me and the team at F1 Rejects, but I am excitied to see some useless teams in Formula One again. It provided a glimp at some future talent and a lot of entertainment. F1 has been missing its' clowns like Minadri and Arrows for years now.
Note to self; Curry + hottest day of the year = silly
Although it was nice...
Ah yes I remember edgar and his crazy non-itunes podcast (although I never listened).
I wonder how he's doing now?
I really don't get this Nascar/IRL-CART rivalry.. why is it there. They both race ovals and although the cars look different the end result is relatively similar.
Over here we don't really have that at all, would i be right in thinking that about 90% of people who watch BTCC would also watch f1?
If to give my two cents worth, a lot of it is based on regionalism in the United States and the fact that the moment the open wheel series split apart is the moment NASCAR started becoming really popular.
NASCAR has always been strong in the south while CART was strong on the west coast and mid west. When CART and IRL split, the quality of the racing (and the amount of races on street and road courses) went down dramatically in the open wheel department. NASCAR exploited and has been extremely popular leaving CART broke and the IRL on the verge of being broke.
Most NASCAR fans don't like open wheel fans because they think we are a bunch of snobs to be honest. It kind of feeds into the anti-intellectual nature that plagues many in the United States (thanks Fox News.)
While the few of us open wheel fans that are left are bitter and angry about what happened the last decade. Many blame NASCAR for dumbing down racing in America and for some of the behind the scenes stuff with the IRL/CART split.
sidepodspace update
The space shuttle Atlantis is on its way back to Kennedy after landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California. It should just have arrived at Biggs Army Air Field in El Paso Texas where it will stay overnight before setting out for Florida. I have no idea why they need an over night stop after a 2 hour flight.
There are some great pics of the shuttle on the 747 at the link below. My favourite is at the bottom of the page. I love the fact that they add aerodynamic bits to the shuttle for these flights. You would think it had never been designed with flight in mind.
http://blogs.nasa.gov/cm/blog/shuttleferry
Almost home. It's hot out there folks!
Hence the reason I've not left the flat today. :D
I agree, and every so often they'd get a decent result (relatively-speaking) which meant you could get behind them and hope they were getting better, even though they never did.
People in hot countries seem to manage, although I don't think every curry is a hot one..
If you go to India, curries are very mild and really not at all like the ones in the UK. More flavours and subtlety.
Not a fan of UK curries, but in India - loved them.
Dan gave a very nice summary. I'd just like to add that a NASCAR oval race is completely different to an IndyCar oval race.
I'm really not convinced that's true. There is a lot of crossover but there is also big chunk of motorsport fans who won't watch F1 because "it's too boring". Just as there are a lot of F1 fans who won't watch other types of racing because "it's not F1" (i.e. its beneath them).
Great pics!
Some of the more discerning curry establishments here are cottoning on to the fact..
Thanks for the response Dan.
Hopefully f1 can move in to North America with 5 or 6 races a year. But the teams would need to agree to 30 races a year which they are too shortsighted to do, but hopefully bernie can lean on them somewhat.
Just hearing about GM on the C4 news. 21k job cuts, the loss of big marques. Not good.
In what way? I belive they are subtly different, but i wouldn't say they are completely different.
Obviously more contact, and the gaps are smaller in nascar, but what else?
Struggling to understand the logic here! F1 will have maybe three race in NA, at most. 2x US + 1x Canada or Mexico.
IndyCar isn't dead yet, it doesn't need replacing.
Forza 3 has been announced, looking suprisngly like forza 2, but the guy who made it believes it will change the world as we know it, so what do i know.
yeah, but they are phasing out more and more of their non oval races, soon i suspect there will only be a handful left. the ones that are left will have to pay massively to get the limited slots, possibly making f1 less unattractive.
I'd have 2 races in Canada, 1 US east coast, Indy, 1 West coast (vegas/ long beach) and one in Mexico
Depends on the track. IRL is a lot faster, drivers don't deliberately ram the competitors off the track, no "competition yellows" - well, most of the time.
I want to make a disparaging comment about restrictor plates but the IRL aero package basically does the same thing at Texas so I can't...
I think that's as much down to the politics of NASCAR, they are associated with ISC who own a large number of ovals but will only sell season tickets instead of event tickets, thus the IRL attendance figures are terrible because the season tickets are bought by NASCAR fans..
I've been wondering how much it would cost to upgrade Long Beach to F1 standards.
In fact I might be wondering that because Dan wrote about it a while ago on his blog..
How about Sebring or Laguna Seca *I know Seca is unlikely - but F1 cars on the corkscrew... :D*
All quiet here.. going to get food and do some college stuff, back in 3 or 4 hours.
I would guess L.S. is too short?
Also it wouldn't be a particularly good track other than 1 corner, probably best to build a replica of it in south korea or somewhere
Sebring would need tearing up and relaying, if sportscar guys complain about it, it must be..
Laguna looks great and must be amazing to drive, there isn't any passing unless you're on a bike though...
erk, "relaying because it is too bumpy"
I love F1 dearly but there is no way North America can support that many races.
I would love to see one in Canada at Montreal, one in Mexico at any place other than Mexico city (isn't Tilke supposely designing a track for some beach resort in Mexico?), and maybe two in the US. I would like the USGP stay in Indy with the motoGP track (which I like the layout more than the "s-hairpin" of the old USGP track) and one on the west coast at Long Beach or Laguna under the disguses of the Pacific Grand Prix. Heck we could share that round with Japan or another Pacific rim country?
Hate to tell you, but the IRL is on its' last legs. Tony George is the only one keeping it alive and his fellow family members who are members of the board at Indy want the IRL to die. They are losing a lot of money on the IRL. A lot more than they ever did with Bernie. The only thing they have going for them is that the Brickyard 400 (NASCAR) and the Indy 500 are still big cash cows.
The IRL won't die. If it dies so will the 500 and the family won't let that happen.
Here is a link to an article about what is happening with the IRL and Indy. From everything I've heard and read, the situation is a lot serious than one might think. LINK: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/racing/indycar/columns/story?columnist=blount_terry&id=4216105
The new Xbox using your body as a controller, with gestures face and voice controllers is amazing. the future just arrived.
The 500 will not die, it makes the family too much money and is the signature race. I think if the IRL was to fail, they will revert it to its’ roots a little bit. Make it an open invitation event. Heck, half the field already only runs at Indy.
If the George’s were smart, they would contact FOTA and NASCAR. Strike a deal to run Charlotte and Monaco a different week and bring their drivers and teams in with the stock chassis and engine. Rebrand it as a race of champions. They would actually make more money with that then they would propping up an entire racing series.
Interesting stuff, thanks.
Xbox kicks the Wii out of the windo
As a Nintendo fan, I'll say probably. However, we need to wait and see what Nintendo show at tomorrow's keynote.
they also showed a classic racing game, doing pit stops physically taking wheel nuts off, and lifting wheels off and on
Just like the drivers do in real life.
no the driver sits in the sofa, she got her dad to do the hard work!
browsing menus like minority report
Like an oval Le Mans? That could work.. maybe.. but even Le Mans realised it needed a series the rest of the time.
I can't see the traditionalists going with you on that one!
That would be amazing!
Anyone suggest some good mac ftp software?
Command line?
I get enough of that at work...
I use Cyberduck because... well, because the icon is a duck.
That is actually a good comparision. There are really only two or three races that make a profit in the IRL anymore: Long Beach, Indy, and St. Petersburg. A majority of the races before the split up used to do well, then Tony George got greedy and tried to out-NASCAR NASCAR by bringing everything in house and forming up with some of the tracks to strong arm the teams. That is why Penske and Newman Hass did not go to the IRL till CART was done for.
If the IRL wants to survive, they need to condense their schedule. Promote American drivers that aren't named Danica. Finaly, they really need to reform how they run the 500.
I don't think they will have a choice.
Sold :)
See Flibster there are virtually no ducks on my PC... I think this might be the moment you'll have to admit you've lost the whole argument :)
I still have no ducks on my machines.
Closest I have is a monkey...
I think that's my point proved...
did anyone just see Microsoft's E3 conference?
I'm scared. The 360 is coming to kill us all. :(
I am just going to say one thing and one thing only... I likes buying domain names :)
Been following a text update online. I'm a Nintendo fan, but I'm willing to admit the Xbox is a good console, so I thought I'd take a look. Like the idea of Project Natal. Sort of an advanced form of that eye toy thing on the ps2, only better.
It scares me. I dunno if you saw the Milo thing from Lionhead but.... wow.
meandpage23.co.uk?
As I said, was watching the feed. Was he in the auditorium or back in Lionhead?
Text feed, I meant
:)
YES!
I knew I was in good company :)
Lionhead - a studio with great potential.
But only when they actually include in their games what Mr Moulenex says the games will include.
Although - if he wants to remake a load of Bullfrog games I won't complain.
May I suggest Syndicate and Magic Carpet
oops, my bad. he was in the auditorium. And they showed a video of it being used at lionhead. Just seemed so.... surreal. Talking to a TV screen and a AI computer character, and having it react back to you is wayyyy beyond my comprehension of video games.
Ahhhhhhhhh Bullfrog... :)
Such happy memories.
do you guys get bulk buy prices for buying so many?
Cool. Will need to watch the video when it's on youtube
Hang on... instant on 1080p streaming?
Errrrr - bluray bitrates can't be streamed over UK broadband reliably.
Plus - watch one film and hit your bandwidth limit?
Yup. So many games.
Populous
Powermonger
Syndicate
Magic Carpet
Theme Park
Genewars
Syndicate Wars
Theme Hospital
Dungeon Keeper....
I'm very very excited they unveiled Forza Motorsport 3 at the conference too, which is looking real good :) As you all know I'm a huge fan of the second and they're promising even more customization for car liveries and promise of uploading HD videos of races and allsorts... plus 400 cars, even more real life tracks.. and more to come..
*claps happily* :)
Its insane, minority report has come to life.
Im starting to belive that consoles are going to become the main home computers
Syndicate was brilliant. Blowing stuff up and using your persuadatron.
Right, having now eaten my food I really do need to do the "I'm not here" thing. Time to panic because exams are in 2 weeks. I don't believe the calendar.
Evening all
Ooh Forza 3! Do tell!
A lot of stuff is being uploaded now from the conferences so I'm gonna try and find what I can about Forza.
On the Race Pro front:
http://www.virtualr.net/race-pro-us-muscle-car-dlc-released/
:D! YAY!
Was gonna mention that eaerlier but I wasn't sure if you're into buying the DLC and stuff. Still... Imola...!!
Also, Forza 3 so far:
This year?! Sweeeeeeeet!
Man, it's gonna be interesting to see the battle between NFS Shift and Forza 3.
Don't forget GT5...
If it ever gets released. ;)
Yep, definitely. The guys behind Project Gothan have something too but they've kinda split in two; one half working on the Forza team and the other making a new racing game that's more Wacky Races than Gran Turismo, le's say :P
But those two will definitely be the two to watch motorsport wise this autumn, then a bit of F1 in the Spring ;)
The guy who announced it seemed to over hype it quite a lot. I suspect Sthey might be expecting sony to finally announce when GT5 is coming out
Absolutely :D
Autumn for me. Finally, it pays to be a hardcore wii gamer!
Mind you, regarding the Race Pro DLC - there's other layouts for Road America? I had no idea.
You can be a hardcore wii gamer?
It's hard, but yes. You just have a limited range of games.
There's new Monkey island stuff coming to the Wii y'know. I demand everyone with a Wii buys it. ;)
*giggles happily for Monkey Island remake* :D
Yeah, i have one, but dont use it that much.
I kinda fear for its future after that Microsoft Sheebang today
Wooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I now know what I am doing with the rest of my life... YES!
With a name like superfund, they're in, even if the budget cap is out.
Same. However, we've got some good games due out this year. The conduit especially.
Um, can someone explain what monkey island is about? It seems to be liked, whatever it is!
It's one of the greatest, most loved anf funniest series of games you could ever play. And gets you thinking too!
However - it has outsold the 360 by about 2:1, and each unit makes Nintendo a profit as opposed to the 360 which costs Microsoft money.
As long as it continues to get fun games, thats all that matters. Gameplay > Graphics
I still play Amiga games because they're more fun than anything around today.
Absolutely... The wii does lack a little in depth. Outside of the Sports and Fit titles some of the games are a bit weak.
But the ones that work are so good and so involving mainly because they are a) simple and b) effective.
I agree with you, however the wii was popular because it was easy to use. removing everything makes systems even easier to use, not to mention not needing to buy extra controllers.
The wii will date quickly graphics wise, but that might not be a problem, but i think a bigger problem might be that its not powerful to run a motion capture system like the other 2
I think Alex is pleased ;)
I played Virtua Tennis 2009 in HMV before work this morning. Tell you what, it's bleedin' realistic!
Why is motion capture important?
These things are for fun! Although, injuries from it could be entertaining. Just like the early wiimote injuries. :D
Nintendo have made so much money that they can afford to wait to release the Wii2 or whatever they're going to call it.
PS3 and Xbox360 are more than just games consoles, DVD players, HD movie players, media streamers and games consoles. Wii is purely a games console, and it's the best at it.
Is everyone hanging on to their seats? RML have announced that they will not enter F1. I was shocked.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75770
it's a shame, they would have been good.
Ahhh don;t tempt me! :P
I've literally fallen off my chair at that news...
You know, as I played I thought "Amy would love this!" :D
The Wii ii ?
Has anyone done the Wiki page for the CTL meet-up?
EA's presser is on in 5 mins or so for anyone interested http://www.justin.tv/G4TV_E3
hmm, i think i have too much time on my hands
Scott, first Forza 3 Screenshots.
http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?game_id=11897&article_id=596963
Yummmmmmmmy. :P
OH......MY......FREAKING......GOD
Love you Lukeh! :D
We all say that now and again.
One's not here btw.
In return, Lukeh, I find this! :D
http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/e3-forza-motorsport-3-trailer
It's looks so good that I just want to eat it. :D
I just said to myself in a rather excited voice "I want that game already!" :D
SIMS 3 looks pretty good, i havent played them since the original though
Hey guys,
Hope you had a good weekend. It's been mega hot here. I spent Saturday at a Latin American Carnival, Sunday relaxing at a a barbecue...
...and today I spent writing stuff into my F1 blog. You can find it here: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com
I hope you like it - please comment and help me with ideas on what to analyse...
It does, have preordered it myself. Always end up playing for 5 minutes but coming off hours later...
I'm only watching this conference mainly for FIFA 10 to be honest ;)
That sounds kinda weird doesn't it? I'd write it FIFA '10. :P
Apparently 3 N4S games, 1 supposedly free going to be previewed as well!
Hoping for a cricket announcement, but i think its been firmly kicked in the can
Yup - Shift, Nitro and NFS World Online.
Yeah I'm gonna go get some toast right now.
Im confused, didnt EA used to make games?
Here we go, this is better. NFS Shift :)
Don't tell RG. Tweet from Lee McKenzie
Up at 4am, going with Timo Glock to Nurburgring Nordschleife tomorrow. 22.8 miles of history and rollercoaster action.
Man, this looks awesome :D
I'm not here. Oh wait
Plan for him to be my paddock dad seems to be losing grip.
It's so good it broke the video.
'm not here but.... i think i want her job....
I'm loving this Driver Profile stuff :D
Love the idea of the profiles for your driving style, very smart.
I am so jealous of Andy right now :D
Oh my god.
I.... I.....
Agression rewards :D
In car looks best ive seen
Man that M3 GT2 sounds insane! The whining transmission is simply just the sound of heaven :D
Love the crash effects as well. Just simply stunning. September can't come quick enough!
did you see when it crashed?
I think a few people may get serious motion sickness from that. It's only a game yet that was huge.
Yup, exactly what I just said.
That's EA's emphasis in this game - immersing you into believing you are actually in that car and you have actually just crashed for real.
I think they've succeeded :D
I thought the Forza presser sounded like they were worried about something, it fas far more aggressive than the rest of their presentation, I was thinking GT5, but i guess it was shift
Hells yeah! :D
Oooh... oooh... Mass Effect 2! The original is one of my favourite Xbox games.
When is Sony's press conference? I wonder if they'll have GT5 on show.
Have to admit, it looks rather impressive.
tomorrow at 5:30pm :)
Oops, 7pm even!
Cool, might just get home in time from work :D
How cool is that EA Sports advert :D
I hope so, although the stream page has it up as 11pm which is wed 7am,
Oooh, EA Sports time :D
Man, FNR4 looks simply stunning!
It's outreageous. There's a demo on the marketplace and it si simply stunning, nothing else to be said.
There's a demo?! Man, I loved FNR3's demo! I must have it!
But right now, I'm downloading the Race Pro DLC pack :D
Wonder if there's gonna be a NASCAR '10?
Ea Sports MMA. wow. That was unexpected... surprisingly for EA Sports.
I think we might see NASCAR.
I was surprised they didnt get the UFC licence, if EA sports loves 1 thing its licences
Sorry, PGA Tour on your browser. Niiice.
Hehehehe, I love the voice of the EA Sports guy :D
He is awesome :D
Its amazing, he should replace legard¬!
"YEAH THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT!" :D
Have you guys ever seen the 'How to pronounce EA Sports' video they made with him?
Link. Now. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0MjH05iliI
Has me in tears everytime, brilliance.
And Look. It's Button. Bigger. Stronger. Quicker. Winner. At Monaco. Bahrain. Even Malaysia.
Max Mosley. From the F.I.A.
Its piquet. In the way. cripple him
Yeah, he's good! Get over it! Jen! Son! Button! He's in the game!!!
He should be the guy on the stage, he wouldnt humour this girl
Tennis time!
EA TENNIS?!
I guess FIFA is being saved for GC
The embargo of information on gaming websites is being lifted this week, so FIFA will definitely be shown this week at some point
ahaha, Sampras just walked in! :D
Unless it has exclusive ps3 content, i guess it will be a soft announcement
See, they obviously used the wrong version of Feeling Good there ;)
:D
Looks great!
Love the style of this game, the mix of black and white, and striking colours.
Need it
HERE WE GO!
Tim Schafer!!! <3
This guy is kinda like a hero for me in the world of video game writing. Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, all some of my favourite games and everything he makes I seem to absolutely love, always mega mega funny and very good games, so yay, really looking forward to this game he's talking about now :)
Plus it has Jack Black! :D
I've been watching the comments tonight....
Has SPC turned into an ubernerd fest ;) ??
Maybe a just a bit of a geek-fest
Hehe :)
Although if it annoys anyone I'll happily shush
Mr Gene Hunt is keeping my company, you may keep nerding ;)
Just because it seems people missed it earlier.. Gavin said this:
And I wrote something too, bit late but what the hey, http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/2009/06/customer-comes-first.html
I reackon that guy watches F1, he comes on and one of the first things he says is 'for sure'. :D
HAHAha
New PS3 logo
Ouch! That was close
http://www.totalprosports.com/blog/index.php/2009/05/rally-car-driver-walks-away-after-being-inches-away-from-death/
It says he was close to death, but the windows are plastic/glass so would break like that, and he has a seat which has completely still framed, thick metal et all.
Is it me or is Latvala accident prone? Wasn't he involved in that 15 roller down the hill a few weeks back?
No FIFA, bah. :(
Might turn up at sony's
Ubisoft in an hour and a half :D
I don't think I can handle anymore tonight!
Now trying out the new Race Pro DLC :D
Assasins creed 2! (the case of the mysterious missing finger)
Ah dagnabbit... I knew there was something.
I wonder if there will be another lost game too
Ooooh. Another mindless button masher.
The first one had terrible missions, but decent gameplay, and was really well written, hopefully the missions will be a better partner to the story.
They'll need to start from scratch then.
all this game talk is getting me excited. Must go home and play virtua tennis... I cant buy the new one without finishing the old one!
OK Lukeh - stay calm...but I have some news...
MUSE TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED!
http://www.muse.mu/
*prepares for inevitable explosion*
You missed his tweets then..
Appreciate posting the info, but I saw it yesterday and I can't begin to explain how upset I am at the choices they've made concerning the tour.
:(
