It's Goodwood time, baby! Woohooo!!!
Pinch, punch, first of the month! No returns! We have managed to turn up in the 7th month of the year with the arrival of July (how did we get here already?!) and that can mean only one thing - today marks the start of the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011!! Wooohoooo!! Ohh I do love the Festival of Speed. Not to mention some lovely summer weather. Isn't it marvellous? But after a brilliant week of meeting lovely Sidepodpeople and watching Realtime Realtime Discussion there there's plenty more going on today as we have a FANTASTIC day of tennis ahead at Wimbledon with semi final action, so keep an eye out for the Wimbledon thread later on!
Oh, and if you're lucky enough to not be working today and heading down to Goodwood, why not meet up with fellow Sidepodpeople and just say hello! Don't be shy, I know for a fact Janna, Kai, Pat and Lou will be meeting up at the main sculpture outside Goodwood House at 12 noon so head over, say hello and meet the absolute legends that these people are. You won't regret it I promise!
Paddock News
Well you wanted a car for your birthday, be grateful! - What better way to start the daily than with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It is the birthday of smily smily Carol Smilie Daniel Ricciardo and what better way to celebrate than with a drive...for..uh, HRT. OK so it ain't great but Daniel will be replacing Karthikeyan from Silverstone. Let's remember Narain's legendary moments, like that time [INSERT MEMORY WHEN IT HAPPENS]. Legen-dary! On the topic of HRT, they're having a shuffle like a Chunk tribute act and Colin Kolles is stepping back, yay! On the downside there are rumours of him joining Williams. Spine. shivering. scary.
A man who keeps his feet on the ground, but in the sky - I find it ironic that a man like Mark Webber who clearly has his feet so firmly on the ground his shadow is getting a bit sick of the weight to be learning to fly but it seems the Foo Fighters have inspired Mr Webber to become a pilot with their song Learn to Fly. OK, so maybe they didn't, but Qantas are supporting Mark in his bid to become a pilot. Very awesome side project to have, really!
Stone Cold Grand Prix Austin - Good news for the people of America and the Six Million Dollar Man and any other Austin related name as the Austin councillers have approved for the F1 to go ahead and for everything to be ready for the 2012 United States Grand Prix. I'm quite excited by this you know. I'm not sure why really, maybe it's because it's in Austin and that reminds me of this Austin but I dunno, it'll be fantastic for the US to have a race. Wales too. Yes, Wales needs a race. *nods to self*
Elsewhere
Off down the Parc Ferme with some buddies - Fancy some good podcasting action to listen to today? Make sure you check out Leigh's fantastic latest podcast with Alexander Rossi of World Series of Renault fame and commentator John Hindhaugh join him. I have no idea how Leigh manages to get names like that onto his podcast but it's incredibly impressive and you'd really be missing out if you didn't give it a listen.
A bit of music and a lot more mud - You've gotta love Glastonbury. After a weekend of music filled awesome and plenty of changeable weather there's always lots of brilliant atmospheric photos and the Big Picture is no exception. Big props to the brilliant older couple jamming it with a reggae band inside the reggae tent in this list, love their spirit and just getting down some smooth moves! Although you just have to look at picture 20. I'm not even ruining it for you. You just have to see it for yourself. Bassano would be proud of that guy. Impressive though!
History Wistory Timey Wimey - I know what you're thinking. It's something we all think every day - what would an illustrated history of the world look like? Yes, a common thought up there with Why is EJ still speaking and How do they make Hob Nobs so sturdy?! Of course, this little illustration is just so cool and I had to share it. Maybe it's the thought of Romans enjoying their beer or a dude splitting time but I just love it and it's very true too!
Little Linkables
Let's throw a few final little things out there to end the day on.
Fancy some cheap PC gaming action today? Steam have started their summer sale and the list is absolutely ridiculous. It truly is. And that list isn't even complete yet - it's only 2/3 full! Absolutely silly. I notice every single Sims 3 game out with the many expansions for £50... considering that's about 8 titles...
Maybe gaming isn't your thing, that's cool. Can I tempt you with this marvellous little collection of Shaun of the Dead posters as created by various designers? They're all so utterly genius and the creativity is mindblowing, everyone one of them could be a movie poster!
Oh, and here's a little bit of news for you - turns out it wasn't Michael Jackson in The Simpsons. Man, I could've told you this 20 years ago! It was Leon Kompowsky after all! Duh! Doh, as that Homer chap would say. I miss The Simpsons being absolutely amazing. It's so hard to watch now...
...and if any of the above doesn't attract you in any way this video will because EVERYONE loves penguins!
And that's me done for the week. I'm so excited for Goodwood tomorrow when I head down there and bask in all it's Goodwoodiness. Whatever you're doing today whether it be work, at home, at Goodwood or watching the tennis or anything, have a brilliant day and come and say hello in the comments! Have a fabulous, positive Friday!
That was quicker than I anticipated to write up from scratch!
w00t!
Well done
quite confused. they gave him a passenger plane to learn to fly in? where's he gonna go from there, the red arrows?
A380?? He has no flying experience at all and he is playing in the simulator for the biggest passenger plane on the planet
yup.
"This is a new challenge for me" - i'll drink to that!
happy birthday disco dan!
happy birthday also to my friend bronnie, who did not get an hrt drive for her big day.
pretty sure that's worth a trip to the dragons den. what a genius.

I'm loving the New F1 engine rules. "Hey, 'member the formula we used through from 1977-87? K, well, add 100ccs to it."
Marshall Pruett on Twitter..

Certainly a different sound in the 80s. Nice, but.. very different.

Saw this tweeted earlier and just had to do a little post on it. Amazing.
Ping - http://toomuchracing.com/2011/07/01/on-the-limit-porsche-world-cup-nordschleife-onboard/
Now..sleep. I might be late there tomorrow.
i saw a bit of it, was confused though, isn't the nordschleife a bit longer? it looks like the mini-f1 track.
It starts on the GP track then instead of turning right to return to the main straight they turn left onto the Nordschleife.
ah-ha.
i love that they can drive in the rain. no red flags required there.
The cars can without much problem.. he had a few twitches where it tried to get away from him but that's part of it really. :) It scared me a bit in places with the spray from the other cars, the guy couldn't see a thing. Probably due to aero wash..
now you must sleep. we shall live vicariously via you tomorrow :)
Mm, I know I should but I've been up until 3am all week and not getting up until 10.30 at the earliest. Sleeping before 2 wasn't ever going to happen but getting up before 8 might hurt..
Hopefully there will be mobile signal on Friday if not Saturday.
Bye..
(I was going to add.. reduce the aero, add more mechanical grip, spray problem surely reduces, but I don't know)
UPDATE Due to modern F1 cars on track at 12 I recommend meeting at 11.40 or 12.20.
http://www.goodwood.co.uk/festival-of-speed/event-itinerary/friday.aspx
Will see any replies to this when I wake.
(I went to bed then panicked because I remembered batteries finished charging, my charger gets very hot if you leave them on..)
I am watching BBC Newsday presented by Rico Hizon. I like Rico. I am quite tired.
why are you still awake?
If you were going to guess?
ooooooh!
Newborn babies have affinity with Mr C. They don't know what day and night are. So they just sleep and wake up whenever they want to.
omg, that's exactly my life. did i maybe miss the bit where i was meant to grow out of that?
i have no idea what it is that's required of you right now, btw, do you have to sing or something?
#clueless
Happy Tundraland (Canada) Day Everyone!
happy canada day to you :)
Happy Tundraland (Canada) Day Everyone!
happy canada day to you
Thanks. I wonder if the Cambridges are in Cambridge today....
I have been. But at the moment what's happened is that she's over tired so she's too tired to sleep and a bit upset about that. Because she was in a special care unit at the hospital for a week she finds quiet a bit scary. We could just cave and have the radio on overnight but eventually it will need to be dealt with... So for now we are trying to keep it dark and quiet overnight and mostly she's been fine, but when things get a bit much it's time for a bit of noisy tv mainly stuff with talking hence news 24.
Currently she's listening to the tv and being fed. Then I have to change her nappy.
Wait BBC 2 has just become pages from cefax! I didn't know they still did that!
Happy Canada Day
Hey Alex, why not get an old wind-up Alarm clock for Giggles, Jr so there is just a bit of enough noise not to get teh kid nervous....
Apparently it is a trick you do with puppies to get them used to there new home....
oh wow, that's just like christine :)
Good idea.
that does not sound appealing at this hour.
*doffs cap*
on the plus side, it's 3am and i'm not the only one awake :)
the pages/numbers don't work, you have to passively sit there while they change.
technically, it's a worse experience than ceefax.
I thought it would be a better idea than finding a place to live that is right under the main landing pattern at Heathrow.... :P
Frankly that part is fine. The non-appealing part is the crying which can be quite loud.
Woohoo!
It's crazy.
Bah! Blame that on Zulu time. it is still Friday here....
They interrupted showing BBC News 24 to show ceefax. Why?
erm, not sure why. bbc 2 tends to show them from 3am-6am, maybe they were late hitting the button?
ah, tv schedule says it would have been "Asia Business Report" until 3:40, then ceefax.
Is this something so unexpected that it could make the BBC World Service News ? at 6 o clock local ?
in canada? surely not...
...or is it saturday in the uk?
It was weird. They were just about to start the business report and then it cut over.
Well, you know what they say..... "No Business is good Business" ... :P
you need more soft furnishings. anything to absorb the reflections. like a studio, really.
Zulu - Z is MIlitary shorthand for GMT. The MIlitary uses Zulu to keep track of time.
oooh UTC. got ya.
oh. erm, i have no idea.
scrub the soft furnishings giggles.
i mean... they don't need cleaning or anything.
Reinforce the soundproofing Giggles! The kid is already mocking your decision to buy those Greek Governmental Bonds! :P
i find myself in an odd situation. i might be going to sleep before alex.
:)
I'm sure you will be! Good luck!
Good luck? Good night! I meant!
Do not worry,mr. C you will get used to this idea sooner than Giggles will.... That I promise....
Poor Giggles......
i do find sleeping difficult :)
same time tomorrow then?
If you wish.....
I trust you won't mind if I say I hope not :)

Yes, lurkers if you do recognise any of us feel free to say hi, even if we are out and about and not at the structure :) we are friendly, promise. :)
Good morning everyone.
Kind a bad way to start a Friday, reading that Michael didn't sing in The Simpsons...
Are you going to Goodwood ;) ?
Morning all, getting ready to go to Goodwood.
Pat, as it's in the daily, I'll be at the sculpture at 12 noon and will stay there until 12:30 after the F1 has finished. See you there.
morning all
Morning Janna, Morning Leigh.
Morning Marti, Janna
How are you both today?
Fine thanks, you?
Better today - actually managed some sleep last night. Much of my busy-ness this week has been sorted
:)
Fine, thanks :)
Enjoying the friday hehe
My boss has just sent me the FOTA Fans Forum interview. 15 pages. Does she want me to translate it??!?!
Hahaaa... See you next Tuesday then
;)
8614 words, according to Microsoft Word.
Oh my god.
Don't worry I've done it for you:
Esperamos hacer muchas cosas, pero no tenemos el poder.
And now she has turned off his PC, so I can't contact her.
What the hell *hatting FOTA Fans Forum* !?
For those who are behind with their Spanish Wednesdays...
Translations the fota fans forum driver's interview.
Conclusion: Kobayashi doesn't speak a lot, Hamilton does.
Long life Kobayashi! International Media loves you!

Excellent daily, Lukeh.
I've just finished translating the drivers' FOTA Fans Forum inverview.
*That pic was supposed to be sent in my last message: http://images.paraorkut.com/img/graficos/imagenes/g/garfield-1619.jpg
finally got around to making an app page for f1minute:
http://www.f1minute.com/app
I see that yesterday you worked until midnight to make it ;)
4am and then some :)
have been trying to get it published for about five days. yesterday it was going up, sleep or not.
The dedication is epic.
:)
So then you spent 4 hours making the page, as I see you took the photos at midnight :)
Is that you're iPhone? I want one!
Someone had to keep Giggles company.
also, for what it's worth, lurking at the bottom of the f1minute homepage is a google +1 button. can see it getting about as much use as google wave, but it's there as a trial:
http://www.f1minute.com/
it's fun too, we just need more time :)
What is up with Autosport and their mammoth headlines? http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92742 No need to read the story now!
Done, although I don't understand what G+ is...
They decided to make it longer, for websites like Google and so on (searchers? it's called like this?=.
Points for Liuzzi! http://twitter.com/#!/HispaniaRacing/status/86732422586171393
Tabs from Virgin said the same yesterday morning with regards to a different story. Is this just Autosport sticking as many tags into headline to generate page views
pat tweeted the same the other day. geoff made the database field a bit bigger, so since then he's like a kid in a candy shop.
either that, or they're trying to game google.
aww yay!
Interesting. I like the idea of a set size. Makes you really think about it. Kinda like Twitter.
at the moment, i don't have a google plus login. looks like a competitor to facebook.
the app still features the short headline, so i guess they're writing two for each story now.
Do you want one? I just need to know where to send it. :)
True. Long headlines don't have the same hook too.
is it any better than wave? if so, [email protected] cheers.
I would like one, just to try :)
My email is '[email protected]'
it's not as technically impressive, but it's more effective.
needs to be a google account, i think, but lemme try.
ahh, bugger. lemmie create one and mail you.
Sure thing. Tried sending one to the SPC address anyway - see if you can get in. Tell me when you've sent the email.
Got it, Marti.
Will send it in a bit.
Thanks ^^
virgin have a page up for the audience with joe: http://www.marussiavirginracing.com/get-involved/399/
i mention it, because i think lou took that picture? she gave it to joe, who passed it on to virgin. w00t!
Let's steal one of their copright-protected pictures and see what do they think...
I think it's a good thing this time - Lou needs the exposure. :)
no, no. lou gave them permission. it's cool!
I've been surfing through Virgin's website HTML code and I've found the url of the picture. It's this: http://assets.virginracing.com/cdn/media/image/11000dab.jpeg
Christine, one question. How did you quote your tweet in this post? http://mrschristine.com/2011/06/26/30-day-song-challenge-your-least-favourite-song/
It's a Wordpress feature, you just post the URL of the tweet on a separate line and it does the rest.
Goodwood Yay! Here & sunny
done. ta.
yipppe!
Finally going to set up my iTunes account today. I seem to be rather behind on these things
considering what you do for a living, holy cow you're behind :)
Exactly
:D
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/wimbledon-2011-day-11
So, how does one check out this Google + shindig? Do you have to be invited?
its pretty 'meh'
someone compared it to your power company trying to convince you they were a cool place to hang out
Trying to wind up the disgruntled professional? :)
I see.
Nothing like Goodwood in the sun
Hi again.
Thanks Christine for the explanation :)
Have left Lou & Kai eeeking in the F1 paddock area. Just saw Petrov & car. Have come to the sculpture. Sitting on the grass on the house side. Come & say hi if you're here.
Important question: Who is going to Goodwood?
Reply, please, because you could be very lucky...
I guess anyone going today will already be there
Mr C, are you here?
You've got an email.
Have met Pat, now off to find the girls.
Marti and Mr. C, invites sent. :) Enjoy!
Recieved :) Thanks ;)
I think Google + is only for +18 years old people.
:D Hahaha! It's for a limited demographic right now, anyway.
Anyway, I can't sign up :-/
Nina update ;) http://twitter.com/#!/andronovjr/status/86755901746315264
Hey guys.
Can I have a google+ invite?
May I too? Fancy having a quick look see.
Ask Journeyer :)
Did you click the link on the email? It should take you to a page where you can sign up.
Gavin and Leigh,
Please send me your gmail address.
pc. at gmail. :)
Yes. It says: "You must be over a certain age to use this feature."
oops. pc.(my username) at gmail. :D
Ah, it does? Didn't know that. Sorry to hear that.
Oh, Gavin, got your gmail already. No need to send it to me anymore. Will just wait for Leigh's.
Sent,
cheers Journeyer

Gavin and Leigh, invites sent. :) Enjoy!

Gahhh - iTunes is giving me a headache. Why can't they make it simple to upload a podcast?
:/
Keeps the riff raff out, I suppose.
True, but also keeps the computer / technically inept too.
Loads of support out there, though. Just Google the problem, someone's bound to have had it before.
Right now I'm just trying to find out what "RSS" is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS
Hi again.
I see you are all posting in the Wimbledon post. Here I come! :)
how did you ever make a podcast without knowing that? how do you listen to podcasts?
I don't know it neither.
I normally press play on whatever on screen device is there or just download the mp3. Recording podcasts is easy - I just put them on Soundcloud
Kids these days.......
Kids?? I'm 30 soon
;)
ahh, you're not making a podcast, you're making audio files.
A podcast (or non-streamed webcast) is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and often downloaded through web syndication.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast
Yep.
Kids I tells ya
I think he was talking about me hehehe
Well, yeah. I've never considered them as any other format.
16 sir! ;)
you have a bit of a learning curve ahead :)
start by downloading a few in itunes.
I have downloaded a few in iTunes, but they're just audio files though, surely?
yeah, but how does itunes know what audio files to list and in what order?
that's rss.
Steve personally chooses them for us each morning.
Doesn't he?
hehe
Uh-huh...
Thanks for that
[utterly confused]
Cheers for the help chaps and chappettes
:)
The rss bit is a text file in a special format that explains how all the audio files fit together into a series. Eg. Episode 1, title Hello word, published on 24 April, description: my first podcast, file: hello.mp3
And when episode 2 is ready the file will need to have added to it the details of the second show.
Apple doesn't host your files so it needs to be told where to go and find them. And this file is what does that.
sorry. erm, it's just xml text and tags, but that's easy for me to say
Do I create separate text file to upload or is it something that goes in a post itself?
This looks über-useful: http://www.voices.com/podcasting.html
What a great collection.
I always find it odd looking at someone looking happy in a photo when you know they died soon after it. 4 photos after smiling in #21 Christa McAuliffe died.
I love #26. Shame we didn't ever get to see shuttles stacked like this on a regular basis. Like Concorde we never got to see the potential delivered.
I remember the mission when #30 was taken. We thought that all spacewalkers in future would be untethered and use those jetpacks.
Depends on the blogging platform you are using. You have a blog yes?
I did type soundcloud podcast iTunes into google and it seems to suggest they might do the leg work for you: http://blog.soundcloud.com/2011/01/13/calling-all-podcasters/
Mmm, Google.
Yep - on Wordpress
But the audio files are on soundcloud?
Aye - I just link the soundcloud files to the post
Ok... So... Normally soundcloud links take you to a soundcloud page right...
If you add /download to the link it should take you directly to the mp3 file.
Can you try that and see if it asks you if you want to download the file?
Yep
Yep
It does
Franck news
His car came 3rd in first practise at Imola. Franck didn't get to be in the car when the track was quickest, which is presumably why the other Peugeot was quicker...
He seems to have done a lot more since Christine closed her Franck blog
leigh, does this help at all?
http://georgemotoc.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/setup-a-podcast-on-wordpresscom-in-2-minutes/
Is he shy or something?
(i think that's how jon used to do the feeder series, anyhow)
Ok. On your wordpress post for the podcast you now need to add some extra info which is basically going to say, "if you are iTunes this is how you find the mp3 on soundcloud".
You need to edit the post, scroll down to where it says custom field, add a field name of enclosure and put a value of the soundcloud link with the /download
Then update your post and put a link to the post here so I can check it.
Let's do a podcast everyone :P
I've sometimes wanted to do so, and I've told my mates about that, but they don't seem to be interested.
I can't find anything called "custom field"
Cheers - do I need to RSS stuff for that?
Thanks man!
You poor soul ;)
This has just made my afternoon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfeyUGZt8nk
ok...
Wordpress add to the body of your post this [audio linktosoundcloudwith/download]
smart friends. it's too expensive, too time consuming and too much hassle :)
Then you may be interested in Jeremy Clarkson's beatbox video ;) http://youtu.be/RY9u0LxIWJk
My little ray of sunshine.
Ok - that works, but I'm still confused by what I do with RSS?
hehehe, haven't we always said that we encourage people to blog, but discourage podcasting? it's just not a user friendly medium.
Yup. Blog, blog, blog.
You didn't read my emergency daily yesterday?
Ok.. Give me a link to your post
or maybe now... tweet.
Emergency biscuit daily.
Yesterday? I barely remember lunch.
Both!
BUSTED!
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/parc-ferme-episode-3-with-alexander-rossi-and-john-hindhaugh/
Why?
Ok... so now... see in the top right hand corner of your website where it says RSS? That's the link to your RSS feed.
not reading the daily.
I put that in an hour ago not knowing what it was, but I'm not sure what it does.
I did, but I don't remember anything that was in it.
Right well an hour ago you hadn't got any links to any audio files but now you do... to episode 3...
Giggles I am so impressed with a) your patience and b) your explaining skills considering you have had zero sleep.
:)
This may infuriate you somewhat, but you've lost me again. Surely the audio file is on Soundcloud?
I am just wondering, have you understood the concept that there are no audio files on iTunes itself? That it is just a big store of podcast links?
Ahhhhhhhhhhh...
oh!!
When you subscribe to a podcast in iTunes, it is just pointing you in the right direction of the files. It isn't delivering them.
And because soundcloud doesn't yet have a way of talking to iTunes directly we are using your blog to point the way... So iTunes is now looking at your blog which is saying hey look at these files over on soundcloud.
I can cope with a 12 day old... I can cope with Leigh :)
Christine, I tried to put a tweet in wordpress following the advice you gave me earlier this morning, but it didn't work :s
iTunes is still giving an error. I think I may give up.
Crikey, we are a proper support desk today! :)

that's lukeh's job!
#sidepodhelp :)
That explains so many comments I have read on here
Thanks for the info, Christine :)
Anyway, it seems that my blog wants to sleep today; it doesn't work.
Like why podcasting is so flippin' expensive :)
if apple delivered our podcasts for us, we wouldn't be completely broke :)
hehe
Beat ya.
Things like that.

awesome! but would want to work for dany bahar? hmmm.
I wonder if International Day of Petrov would work in my favour or against.
It would work in your favour if you did a International Day of Awesome Boss Boullier ;)

You could be the pineapple of the staff there.
:) :)
Anyway, it's quite shocking to see that there's a job called 'Social-Network Cordinator' in a F1 team... Wow.
Not really. F1 is quite late with this kind of thing.
the times they are changing. red bull were asking for something similar a few months back. whoever they got in though, has spectacularly failed to do anything thus far.
(assuming they didn't just can the idea)
Is it me or has Red Bull Spy disappeared?
I applied for that one. Took them months to respond either way.
Ferrari has discovered him.
in the meantime, they set up a facebook page.
stunning.
I see.
tweeted yesterday i think, @tororossospy though has said nothing for weeks.
Probably concentrating on the car
;)
Or maybe BY Kinky KylIe herself?
Amy?
Bye bye everyone :) See you later!
:)
i asked the other day why autosport added a linked in button.
http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/30/linkedin-traffic-twitter/
i think i may behind the curve on this one.
Seems an odd idea

I love this exchange between Kat & Fourstar:
K: Good grief. Little @andronovjr is a nocturnal baby. Or a bat. How do we get her to switch over and be awake in the day?
F: There's a toggle behind the left knee; flip it back to 'Factory Settings' and hold the red button until it bleeps.
Hope little Ninotchka reverts to a reasonable wake cycle soon for them. Clearly, SidepodTime at the moment
otherwise known as "the correct time".
Yes... It will be interesting to see if it can be reverted... She has been awake more during the day today... I really hope this is a sign that tonight won't be so bad.
Nocturnal is normal. Ask Amy
The annoying thing is that we could switch to that time... except you have to do all kinds of things like go to the hospital outpatents and have health visitor visits and so on and all of this happens during the day.
Didn't your parenting friends advise you to store up a year's worth of sleep for this period?
I don't think sleep really works like that.
guessing now's not the time to ask about the next giggles radio... no. okay then. carry on.
How else do parents survive? ;)
Hehehe just keep poking her awake all day so she's mega tired at night. Is that cruel?
Feb 2016
who's helping fourstar, while you're at home?
I've never known a baby to be able to stay awake all day
heh... we'll have to see :)
Keep poking!!
I have been a bit...
#neverleavemewithyourchild
ahh, phew.
it's only 4am, still early :)
That's the problem they are supposed, at this age, to sleep for about 16.5 hours a day... When the awake time happens is kind of up to her... If you wake her up too much during the day she will get mega cross and then not sleep properly and then everything will quickly go out of balance... Apparently the plan is to just keep things nice and noisy in the day time, and quiet and dark at night and she'll work it out...
...or she grows up like me and all the other cool people who like to wake up at midday.
Giggles Radio Marathon :D
All those experts and they expect the kid to figure it out
Damn, I've expired... a good day was had at goodwood! didnt rain! and saw loads of motors, spent most of the day towards the top / rally stage .... and saw some hollywood "celebs"!
I don't mind her being awake at mid-day... I just mind the six and a half hours of awake time being 12 am to 6ish am.
but that's the MOST PRODUCTIVE TIME!
yay. any pics/video? can we twist your arm for a guest post?
She doesn't do anything yet!
Well she does produce things... but perhaps you wouldn't want to deal with them.
You need to look harder to find a market
you couldn't pay me.
;)
got 1 more day tomorrow... I am happy to contribute pics / text for some form of blog post... ( maybe the people who went can do a combined one or something ?)
.... got shed loads of photos to go though.... :-|
... shane warne was there (with Liz (hurley)) and he went in one of those funny simulator things.. haha... (I just had fun papp-ing them!)
[i]Franck news[/i]
He came 2nd in 2nd practise (which was rather wet, meaning nearly half the field didn't bother setting a time).
And I put the italics in BBCode instead of HTML. Try again:

cheers sir.
Eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk!
Hi Lou
I think someone enjoyed their day at Goodwood :)
:)
Omg omg Omg goodwood is amazing. I love that place so so much. Spotted darren heath too, not working today but didn't get a chance to chat to him. was a bit starstrucked..
And did I see right that virgin used my pic of Joe? Best.day.ever!
Breathe
there are no words other than Eeeek!
Back at Jannas now, all having had a great day.
I've even have the opportunity to watch the tennis now. Janna is awesome
yup. on virgin's site. it's HUGE :)
basically the whooooooooole page
we have to find a way to get lou to silverstone.
ahhhhhhhhhh! Major moment for me! Aaaaaaaaaahhhh they may be my new favourites.
Christine can you pleaaaasseee give them points? :)
You should offer to do more pics for them, at their choosing
I don't know who is writing the daily tomorrow but if they could put this in:
We will be at the sculpture at 12:30pm if anyone wants to meet up. (Do not forget your sunscreen)
Thanks
Should we spam them with abuse for not crediting you?
Or suggest they could make it up to Lou for their error?
That is another option
i doubt they know lou took the picture. lou gave them to emma i think, who gave them to joe? i can't remember now.
I think Andy Murray looks a bit like Jenson Button fro some angles
Should probably have asked whose it was though
I would do anything to get there.. have even emailed the spark lotus people saying why I should be their Twitter person... its just too far away to commute eto.. and too late to commute back from.
i hear ya. with timo and jerome being around too, you could get some amazing dusk shots :(
yep that's right. :)
*cries* it would be perfect.
Am watching the F1 Forum properly now I have calmed down from Sunday's post-race strop
Why were you angry?
2hrs of my life wasted but let's not go over that again
I think stroppy and angry are quite different too :D
#Pedantic
Fair enough. I've been permanently at work. I have no idea what's going on anymore.
not as bad as canada though, you signed up to watch cars race and they did. or am i missing something?
Evening everyone :)
The racing in Canada, when it occurred, was fantastic.
The weather got in the way and the race redeemed itself for the earlier Safety Car silliness. Valencia proved nothing can save it. Poor Spain, having 2 poor F1 races. At least Barcelona wasn't too bad this year
Hi Marti
No, most of the time, they just circulated. I didn't see much racing :D
fair enough. i was happy that it finished on time and i could get on with my sunday :)
Different objectives, I suppose
I guess someone has watched the Valencia race again hehe.
To be honest: I liked it. Well, obviously it wasn't as exciting as the Monaco GP or the Canadian one, but considering VSC's history I think it was a huge success.
Although, I must say I hate that track. I don't know why it's in the calendar. #longlifecircuitdecatalunya
We'll have to agree to disagree then
Looking forward to Silverstone though
People weren't stuck in a trulli train though were they? More like fastest cars qualified at the front and drove away. End of story.
Me too! It's probably one of the best week-ends of the year :)
Although I wonder what will we feel when we see those cars running flatout in front of the old pit-lane builiding.
I also wonder if we will see any overtaking in the first lap, because the first curve is quite wide...
they didn't even drive away until right at the end. vettel was pegged at just a few seconds most of the race
Ken Block is 1'88 metres tall and he is not able to drive a F1 car because of this.
Then I won't be able to do so :(
Pirelli should go and get peter perfect's car.
Not really, he just can't fit in a 2009 Toyota that Pirelli are running
Alex Wurz is 6' 3" [1.95m]
Sorry, 1.90 1/2
Wiiii Then my F1 driver career is still possible :)
Assuming you gave been karting since you were 5, yes ;)
*have been
Well, F1 PC games... That counts, no? hehe
Being realistic: Even a three-wheeled HRT car would be faster than me.
Why doesn't Wordpress have a mobile-webpage? I am connected with a very bad connection and I just can't open wp.com.
Finally I've opened it. My blog's stats look like a rollercoaster:

Total: 1100 visits
Comments: 3 (alone in my blog)
Subscribers: 0 (buff... already crying).

I hope so :)
I must turn off the computer, Bassano. Bye bye Sidepodcast :)
Bye Marti
Quick plug.

:D
Maybe they are just floating above the ground. It happens sometimes I guess :)
I had THE. MOST. AMAZING. DAY at Goodwood.
Autographs: Adrian Newey, Helio Castroneves (Indy driver), Eddie Cheever (Indy driver), Vitaly Petrov, Nick Hamilton, Mark Webber,
Photos with Mark Webber, Adrian Newey, Helio Castroneves
and that's all I can remember.
http://bit.ly/iEIBwc
I love the sticker placement :)
Wooohoooo!!! :D
Awesome photos kai!
You got Petrov ♥
Awwww :D
He's lovely! And Adrian Newey is sooo nice, and Mark Webber is great!
Quite tall, that Webbo.
Yeah, and Vitaly is quite small.
Thanks! I'm loving Bassano's camera.
This one? :D

Unreal.
Kai in the UK 01/07/2011 at 21:18:49
Hey, Eddie Cheeever was an awesome F1 driver, back in the Steven Roy era (turbo power cars, yadda, yadda, yadda....), he got around 70 points.... :P
I got to smell F1 cars, see F1 cars and hear F1 cars. It was phenomenal. I can't even believe it all happened.
And there's still another day to come :)
Very jealous, sounds brilliant
We are leaving at 0-dark-30 tomorrow so we can get there early, but I had to share bit with you all.
I know the pics aren't edited or cropped or anything, but I just could not wait to do that. I had to upload them with bits of arms and heads of spectators and all.
The periscope exhaust seems weird now
https://picasaweb.google.com/106400214729093018812/GoodwoodFridayShare?authkey=Gv1sRgCPKPqPSjuOzm5gE&feat=email#5624475659688859218
You have properly made our day :)
Plenty of time for editing later
I look forward to your attempt to get Lou up and awake that early ;)
Love this shot of the Williams
https://picasaweb.google.com/106400214729093018812/GoodwoodFridayShare?authkey=Gv1sRgCPKPqPSjuOzm5gE&feat=email#5624475678471569186
I suspect Janna will wave a pic of Jenson Button or something
Oh, I'm so glad. It's hard to even communicate how much I was gobsmacked by most of what I saw and did today. It's an unforgettable experience. Incredible access you won't get anywhere else.
I wonder if it'll make it to tomorrow
omg, omg, omg, omg lou!!
*hugs to all*
I really liked the challenge of trying to get it as right as I could. I do love those kinds of shots and take quite a few of them. :)
Good evening good evening.
It was her idea, and this is Goodwood. Period. ;)
Renault Sans Total!

Hi Pat
Oh I never bother with editing, just turn it the right way up and send it away :)
*sidepodhugs* allll around! Life is beautiful.
interesting accusation from manipe: https://twitter.com/#!/ManipeF1/status/86894076993077248
accusing mav of plagiarism.
Journey home took a little longer than the journey there since i stopped for coffee, and then picked up takeaway chicken. Think I'll get a beer to go with it. Well earned I'd say.
Not that I got autographs or photos with anyone. :) :)
Red face/arms and hurting feet are a sign of a great day.
I thought you couldn't copyright a fact.
I think someone is jealous of the Lame War :D
Unless he means the general idea.
have asked.
Apologies for lack of updates during the day, I think the others had marginally better luck with 3G/wifi access? I could connect to something but then not send/receive data.
told you I would :) hehe sorry for the lack of a banner and thanks to Janna for giving me her stickers.
General ideas and principles aren't exactly plagiarism
you can have more! totally made our day.
if it doesn't we have more stickers .
Yea. I mean, you can't copyright the fact that someone changed their gearbox, you could potentially claim the way you present the information is yours alone, but I would have thought it wasn't an unusual concept for F1 data type people.
Odd. Mav and Jackie always, always credit when they use something.. If they didn't credit, I'd be pretty sure they did the stats themselves.
Data fiends for F1 everywhere on the net
you'll have to make it to a meet again then! We should make it a challenge to attend f1/ motorsporty places and put a sticker somewhere.
I hear Gavin is coming to the UK soon ;)
#justsaying
there are plenty of bloggers happy to steal an idea or three, but viva isn't one of them.
Manipe: @sidepodcast Nope, they're not stealing, they asked to use it and I obliged! Hence the link ;)
Mr C, getting us all fussed up about nothing :)
Midlands meet-up?
I think he just wants a new lame war like bassano says :)
oooooops, sorry!
Aha!
I like the idea of meeting outside of London. Particularly after hearing Mr C's tales of roadworks!
Context is everything. Easy mistake to make though
That'd be cool :)
donnington?
I think Gavin is/will be in Nottingham or something
Good night everyone. More tomorrow night. I don't have an wifi at Goodwood. I must see Dario Franchitti. That's my goal.
We shall make it so. :)
Night Kai!
Night
Night, good to meet you, and see ya tomorrow. :)
What time are you guys getting there?
gimme some notice and ill book a hotel room...
I'm not sure I'll make it, this is becoming an expensive month [for great reasons]
Perhaps someone should suggest it to Gavin first
Isn't here next week or something?
Right as Kai says its bedtime here, up early tomorrow. Speak to you lovely people when I get home tomorrow. X
I think so
G'night Lou
See you tomorrow! Night!
I'll be getting into chichester just after 10 myself
good plan :)
Bye!
The plan is to be there not too long after 09:00. We shall see!
My aim is to be on the grounds by 10.30 at the latest. There's a Croft/Petrov/Senna interview on the Lotus stand at 10.30.
Not only was I late leaving this morning but I also had a lot of very slow (15mph) traffic.
If I can leave before 8.30 I will but I make no promises :)
!!!!!
Bruuunnooooo. Ahhh my train arrives at 10:10 I'll never make that. Boo.
They are back again at 2pm
Crofty tweeted something about some Goodwood work with Sky. Anyone know anything about that?
See, Bruno knows. :)
Yeah. He's presenting Sky's show which goes out on Sunday afternoon/evening. We saw him from a long distance on the Sky studio/balcony opposite the house, he had a small boy with him which wasn't Ant.
Helio is actually awesome
https://picasaweb.google.com/106400214729093018812/GoodwoodFridayShare?authkey=Gv1sRgCPKPqPSjuOzm5gE&feat=email#5624476325066559778
:)
From what I remember last year, didn't he commentate on the top 10/20 fastest cars over the weekend?
Cheers, I'll '+' it
Yeah, same thing this year I reckon. I'm guessing he might be doing other features for the show? No idea.
Ah, Sky Sports. Oh well
Maybe they are covering more.
I know there was a highlights show last year on ITV4 with Holly Samos and Matt Dawson.
same here, Pat. I had a great time scoping out the paddock with you. You're a great spotter of drivers. :)
ok, good night for real now. :)
Night Kai, see you, Janna and Lou tomorrow :)
goodnight Kai
Just getting some photos/videos uploaded.. Weird thing about Goodwood is how famous people keep jumping out at you, like Vitaly Petrov walking by..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuNUdIH6oxY
Hello all
Dan Wheldon..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBwR-hsMKIA
Hi Joe
Bringing back memories of last year. Wished I could have gone this year.
We're trying our best to cover everything for people who can't make it, hopefully you'll be back another time. :)
Photos are being uploaded, I'm waiting for one in particular for Mr C and Dan Brunell...
Pixar's next film is to have it's first female lead, played by Kelly MacDonald. It also seems to have a Celtic flavour
Brave
I'm already appreciative of the coverage so far from you guys. Great work, thanks
seconded.
No probs :)
34% on pics, time for a much-needed shower.. Blog post can wait until Sunday.
I want to see this now!
Ooo how Midlands?
At least there won't be any tube benches there then...
Does that mean that I should have gone done t'road after all?
evening folks
hi Leigh
hi SB
how are you?
good thanks.
how are you?
I've downloaded your Parc Ferme shows, they're queued up to listen to.
Do you have an RSS feed for them at all?
If Gavin has the time and inclination, somewhere around Nottingham. [Is that the Midlands?]
#BadRegionalGeography
We went through this today. I have absolutely no idea what RSS is, but apparently it's some form of text code
Not too bad - was out with friends this evening, so OK
Cheers
:)
You might want to look at RSS for your blog then
I looked .... and wanted to hit my computer with a hammer
Evening.
I don't think it's possible sadly. I'm going to the UK to see my Grandparents and hang out with my parents, who I haven't seen for 3 years. We have 6 days in the UK and then they come to Denmark for 10 days. They've never been here before so I'm quite nervous!
http://feeds.feedburner.com/startledbunny
if you open the link above, right click the page and select "view page source" or something similar. that is what RSS is.
You can submit them to iTunes then.
or you can just hit me with a hammer if you already knew how they were laid out. *prepares*
North Midlandsy. I know thats not a word.
Hi Gavin
I did suggest someone check with you before getting excited.
No reason why folk can't arrange a more Northerly meet-up than the usual at any point
If you post it, they will come :D
We plan a day of shopping at Meadowhall BTW...
Comes as standard with a wordpress.com blog, if that's what you've got Leigh?
As for separate podcast feed, no idea.
I saw that on mine and didn't know what it is.
Yep
Of course. I just wanted to make sure that it shouldn't be involving me at all, because I just can't do it this time. But there definitely should be a more Northern meet up than London. The Donington Collection instantly springs to mind...
about a 40min drive down the M1 from here.
Thought so. Mrs. Goat is already planning what to buy!
Anyway, I followed Alex's instructions and couldn't get the podcasts to be recognised on iTunes and all the other coding just confuses me
i usually go to look at what i can't afford in the apple store. and end up spending loads in the HMV sales.
Hehe me too!
Mevio host podcasts for free, and create the feed for you, so you don't have to. The only drawback, is it's Mevio, and it's a tad clunky, but does the job, and gives you stats too.
(not trying to be a salesman, honest)
I'm starting to think LPG has a secret occupation
"British intelligence officers replaced the group's instructions on how to make bombs with cupcake recipes"
http://www.macworld.co.uk/digitallifestyle/news/index.cfm?newsid=3288885&pagtype=allchandate
I'll have a look. Meanwhile folks, I'll get some sleep - see you tomorrow
:)
Rofl.
I might tell you that story sometime...
See ya..
Although, I have thought of somewhere far more secret (ha!) than RB or FI that could get a sticker...
I'm jumping over to new Saturday Daily
