Uh oh, it's that most worrying day of the year - April Fool's Day. There will be nothing to see here, I'm not really a huge fan of the tricksy business. Instead, I will promote the first day of the Jordan Rally instead. I'm assuming we're expecting to see Kimi there, as Lady Snowcat has headed on over to watch proceedings. Let's hope he gets a good result. Now, what else are we talking about?
- It was an incredibly busy day on Sidepodcast yesterday, with not one but two guest posts. In response to the ongoing discussion regarding regulation changes, where F1 is headed, and Steven's epic post on his view of the ideal formula, KerbRider shared some of his own thoughts with us. Then Alex also had his own radical solution to try and solve some of the problems (although possibly creating plenty more along the way).
- In part, these posts were a response to Mr C's thoughts on the prominence of tyre strategy so far this year. You must go into this post with the right frame of mind though - it is about tyre strategy vs refuelling strategy, not the existing refuelling ban debate. However, the fabulous debate in the comments meandered among all the topics, so feel free to add your own thoughts!
- Finally, to start moving forward to the Malaysian race, we have all the information you could possibly need about the upcoming weekend and of course, F1 Digest is here to run through some vital statistics, what happened last year, and what the drivers think might happen this year.
Phew. I'm assuming that Thursday is going to be a little bit quieter, although I do believe there is a Joe Show on the cards somewhere. Keep your eyes (ears?) peeled for that, and I will see you in the comments.

Qual: individual 1 lap on sat 1 on sunday
Stops: Tyre and Fuel
Tyres: As they are
Aero: None/little
qually: 1 lap each on saturday.
stops: fuel
tyres: black and round, hard as nails
aero: sexy looking cars
Qual: 12 lap / 1 hour to let the tension build and let us see lots of laps
Stops: None. Stops are for sportscars
Tyres: Slicks - same fronts, bigger rears.
Aero: Less but generated only by the underbody. No wings, bargeboards, flicks or fake brake ducts
Qual: One hour. 12 laps. (I really like knockout format but Steven's post reminded me how much I miss the old one)
Stops: Fuel and tyres, choice of two compounds with no restrictions on use. (I am coming back around to fuel stops again, I'm willing to wait and see on the current rules though)
Aero: Wider cars, narrower front wings with heavily restricted elements, wider rear wings with heavily restricted elements, small diffusers, no flickups or bargeboards, standard venturi tunnels on the underbody.
heheheheh!
Soon Great Britain will be in the grip of election fever and as the public goes to the polls BMW has created a unique way for customers to personalise their cars depending on their political leanings. BMW’s innovative Political Roundel Attachment Tag (PRAT) is a highly stylised limited edition accessory of the BMW product portfolio and comes available in the colours of all major UK parties.
Uwe Beanhadde, Head of Made-up Technology at BMW’s renowned Forschungs und Innovationszentrum in Munich, said: “We have been working on this innovation for a number of years and see it as a niche with potentially wide appeal. One of the most popular features, sure to strike a cord with the floating voter, is that the roundel can be replaced in a matter of seconds should the opposition suddenly seem more appealing”.
News of the PRAT accessory comes swiftly after boffins at BMW offered other award winning innovations such as Canine Repellant Alloy Protection that stopped dogs relieving themselves on customers’ wheels, Magnetic Tow Technology, the ultimate in tailgating tech, and BMW Instant Messaging which let owners know what they really thought of other road users.

Good. Manor or Virgin shouldn't be paying for that.
Morning, folks.
(again)
An interesting addition to the fuel stops debate, perhaps...
He said Virgin could make it to the end of races using sportscars techniques, but admitted he was not willing to do it.
"There are techniques that we learned from sportscars, but that's not racing. We want to race," he said.
He's right, and in LMS racing he'd win by doing that, but you can't hold back on a sprint race
I'm going to head to bed, catch you in the morning perhaps.
ahhhhh. but is it a sprint race any more? i guess compared to 24hrs it is. but not compared to f1 of old.
night pat.
Night
I'm not sure I'd call it a sprint race. It was.
Tbh to me a sprint race is a 25min touring car race.
it is, we're talking 0.5-1 second per lap holding off, the equivalent of turning your engine down kinda thing, you cant do that in f1
He means letting themselves 10 laps down instead of saying 5-6 laps down? Just as well, then.
As far as engine and fuel consumption is concerned yes
A sprint race is anything under 2.5 hours i'd say, anything where the guys are going at it 100% and where a problem means you'll lose the race.
F1 has always been classed as a sprint race
Night Pat

Ooops {Comment #1}
Guilty as charged.
Update upon heading for bed: I've done 4 pages. Personally, I like to get a head of steam at this point because I know that if I don't, I'm apt to forget I'm supposed to be writing anything at all (this is how I only got 1000 words - 2% of the target - for my NaNoNovel last year).
However, it should be noted that if you do 3 1/3 pages per day, you will manage to hit the target just fine. There's still time to join in if you are particularly desperate for writing outlets this month.
And I thought my guest post was too long {Comment #2}
Your post was the right length for the purpose to which you put that post :)
Hey folks,
Just saw an article on PitPass (yes, I know - unreliable) that Mosley might be the new F1 commissioner. Is this an April Fools joke or something?
almost certainly.
By the way - hello and how is everyone?
:)
v.good, yourself?
tired and (admittedly ever so slightly) drunk
:)
when was the last time a car finished unclassified?
God i hate april fools day! In other news, poor poor Heikki, staying in a hotel with no wireless. Thats my worst nightmare!
3g?
what's worse - no wireless or being stuck with dial-up?
:D
I believe those share the same level of Dante's inferno!
3g is fantastical but can get expensive. He is trying though, perhaps the network in malaysia is as bad as vodafone at albert park :D my comments on monday night from joes all came to you courtesy of my 3g dongle :D silly crowd, looking at our technology table all weird...
:)
How can you be a sidepodfan if you dont appreciate the need to be near the comments at all times! What if something happens!
that's true. only today.... actually nothing much happened. but yesterday, cor! actually yesterday was quite quiet too...
No, yesterday I bought purple shoes!
see, i closed the comments and missed something!!
Evening folks. I really hate that I cant access sidepodcast at work anymore. I never get to pop in here anymore =/
hey ya jim. we miss ya :(
Ditto =(
I'm always busy with work or with track days now that the motorsports season has started.
Side note: I'm getting a http://sidepodcast.com sticker made for my race cars to get the word out =) Will keep you updated when it arrives and is planted on my cars.
JIM! Hello! That sucks :(
ooh, thanking you muchly!
thats awesome :D
Yea, not a problem. This place as become one of my favorite breaks from reality, so I'm just doing my part.
i think that means amy is on a permanent break from reality...
so many jokes, so little time

Done making the sticker, just a quick design, nothing flashy. Sending it to the decal makers now and perhaps we'll even have a decal on this weekends car for the event I have Saturday.
that's just superb. if you grabs pics, we'll certainly feature them.
Sure, will do. The best part of it is that my car is a favorite in the States, so people take pics of my car at events all the time. Now, when they'll get close up photos, they'll see the sidepodcast sticker I made and hopefully be curious.
legend!
I'm in Mt Gambier, SA and they have free public wifi. How cool is that?!
What type of car Jim?
It's certainly up there. Amen. :D
lol, kinda. My car's make and model is featured in a popular japanese cartoon, Initial D, so you have a bunch of fans of that anime that take pics of my car.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4475346069_7fbda03451_o.jpg
An example of someone shooting a pic of my car at the last event while my roommate was driving it. All in all, I think around 20 or so pics were taken of my car last weekend.
1986 Toyota Corolla GTS.
oh OK. Cool
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2777/4475346035_ec679b77a4_o.jpg
A better snapshot someone took of the car
Those corollas are real drifter favorites
Tell me about it... I've had two different people try to steal my car because of such. I've come home to find my windows busted out and such a couple times. Luckily the car is a purpose built race car, so they cant start it w/out a couple devices I built into the electrical system and nobody would want to drive the car around anyway as it has no interior, no air con, no heat, no radio, no comfort.
The only time I drive the car is to an event, during an event and home from an event. The rest of the time it sits in a parking space or in my space I rent in a shop's garage.
A blue Trueno! :O
Too true. Imagine if your Trueno was white with black piping and hood. They'd go nuts!
It's also the best arcade racing game right now, IMO.
Not for long =) I have fender flares and over-fenders that I've been needing to install for a while so I can put different wheel/tire configs on for a better stance. I need to figure out what color to paint it.
This is silly. I should be drivi v but I'm hanging around because of free wifi :D
are you racing jeremy?
lol not today. Just got to travel 475km to my next stop
awww!
@H_Kovalainen I fixed the wireless problem for you! Have fun this morning!
Now if only Heikki could fix his problem with starting poorly and falling deeper and deeper into the field throughout the race, he'd be set!

Apparently, the first 1000 ticket buyers from Feb 13 to March 21 get invited to the Friday pitwalk.
But I bought even earlier than that - in January. So no pitwalk for me. :( Although it seems I bought the tickets at 55% off...
oh, yay.
boo :(
Indeed. So what is more worth it - the 55% off (which, I've gotta admit, is pretty massive) or the Friday pitwalk? Sigh.
all you gotta do is wear a mclaren shirt and follow amy
Wear a McLaren shirt? Never! :P :D
Yep. If anyone questions you, just say you're with sidepodcast and then ask them if they heard the shoutout. Instant respect.
heeh! drats.
fact
hahaha!
lol... same. My fellow tifosi would kill me.
Ferrari? Sure! Mercedes? No problem. McLaren? You MUST be joking. ;) :D
Hmm, checking out the times for FP1 tomorrow. Looks like I'll be able to live view with you folks for that.
ahh, nice one. i think practice may kill us. thank the lord for having friday off.
Looks like the race takes place at 4am my time. I suppose I could wake myself up and show up drunk (ala Kimi) and live view. There are no plans to go to the pub yet after the track on Saturday, but I'm sure we'll wind up there anyway.
:D I should be able to watch with you too - assuming I'm not pulled to the pool. ;)
huh?
I'm gonna be sleeping through it, no stinkin' way am I going to stay up for it.
My track time ends at around 4pm. I figure go home, shower, hit the bar, stay there till 10ish and pass out when I get home. If I follow that plan, I could probably wake up to an alarm at around 3:30am. It's not like I had anything better to do that Sunday anyway. I'll watch the race and continue working on a motor I'm rebuilding.
I need to learn how to do that.
I didn't want to at first (learn that is), but now it's an essential part of keeping my car going all year. I usually swap in a new motor each year (alternating between two), and his will be next years motor, pending no catastrophes this year.
i want to stay up and chat, but i must sleep, will post the latest aside with joe first thing in the morning. just need to listen back with fresh ears.
night all.
Night =)
Catherine fixed the internet for Heikki, My girl crush grows stronger.
So am I to assume that Mr C is frantically putting together the finishing touches to the joe show while desperately looking at his watch and saying how can it be 6:30 already?
:D Hehehehe.
I'm thinking they'll release it in the evening. ;)
Good evening
Hey Crid.
I find something so endearing about "famous" people communicating via twitter over little things like that rather than just texting or calling :D
It's the new PDA. ;) Hehehehe.
qualifying isn't live here on saturday. Stupid AFL :(
And this is the weekend after Melbourne? Boo. Do you have backup options? ;)
:D Pamela and I are also planning a post-race debrief dinner on Monday. Hooray for sidepodcast! :D
Morning all.
Nice one! :)
Morning Christine.
Morning. May your day be free of any first of april nonsense.
The first entry on our "daily updates" page on our intranet was a "this site is now touch screen compatible blah blah blah touch here" and I really seriously judged anyone I work with who I saw touching their computer screens (four of them! FOUR!)
FAIL. Utter FAIL. :D
Oh lord, I hate it.
I would have too!
I would have tried too :(
If anyone posts here that Hulkenburg is changing his name, I'll judge them too.
Judged, I mean :)
:D
He is?
so they say.
I don't believe that... but that's nothing compared to the big news!
Three-wheeled F1!
:D
Also, nice thought from Schumi, but... didn't Button already win the title with a beard? ;)

Morning :)
Morning :)
That Matt Smith is doing the rounds. On Blue Peter:
Doctor Who's new Doctor, Matt Smith, shows how to make a TARDIS bird feeder.
Interesting.
I saw the new Radio Times yesterday... Very exciting!
Yes, and I saw a clip on Digital Spy that makes me think I will be taking back everything I ever said about Matt Smith. It looks fabulous.
I have been a true believer since the beginning.
However I am mainly
a) looking forward to doctor who coming back
b) looking forward to a proper full series run of doctor who
and then third
c) finding out what Matt Smith is like...
I think.
This one definitely. Although I'm not sure how it's going to work. I used to just watch on the iPlayer whenever, but now I am slightly more obsessed and more likely to stumble across reviews/spoilers. Now I actually have to sit down and watch something at the same time it is on the TV. Very odd.
Yeah... We aren't as obsessed generally we watch on Saturday night but only a few hours later.
It's nice you can watch it together. I don't think I can convince Mr C now there's no chance of catching a glimpse of Billie.
You never know... The new companion would seem... How might one put this delicately... I would imagine she would catch a chill in the prevailing weather conditions in the united kingdom.
The Rally has started. World Rally Radio live: http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=250
Thanks Kathi. :)

Karen Gillan:
Yes, this doctor is preeeetty good. As, I've said, is Amy, and she gets to wear all these small skirts, which I will admit was very cold, but also very cool. They originally wanted to put me in trousers, but I did say I'd like to wear a skirt because – you'll understand when you watch it. Actually I think I love Amy. I'm in love with her. I want to be her.
I get the feeling both Matt and Karen are equally mad as frogs in boxes.
I want to be Amy too. Oh wait....
You have a slight advantage over everyone else :)
I love that she is her... but awesome :)
Mad as a pair of bicycles!
I am totally having that mini-egg.

I no longer like Thursdays.
Our server had an error that stopped us logging in. I was the intermediary between the boss and our consultants (who dial into the server remotely to sort it), but it seems everyone else wanted me to do something too... grr. On top of my covering for someone else so had to do one or two of her morning duties. I think I've caught up on that now so time to start what I normally do of a morning...
Is it really only 1hr25mins since I came in?
It's good that pole is holding the cloud up :)
Boo!
I know. It doesn't help that some idiot decided to put the Easter holiday right next to the year end :)
Seriously. I have had the week from hell. Who plans this stoopid calendar?
I bet Bernie had a hand in it.
and smack bang in the middle of my holiday. There are kids everywhere :-(
Before they moved the race start in Malaysia to ...pid hour last year there was only one wet race there - I think the first one. I myself went to that race 3 times, never had a drop of rain on track but always got seriously wet an hour or so after the race ... race start anytime after 3pm is insane ...
if Europe is OK with 5pm start in Melbourne, why it can't be OK with 3pm race start in Sepang ? Sepang is 3 hours behind Melbourne ...
and ... wasn't the move to these new markets about these new markets in the first place ? why then the races in these new markets have to be compromised because of fans in Europe. If Europe is still the priority, then solution is simple, race in Europe, forget about far east ...
go Petter!
yikes
I think if I even get race coverage in nowheresville I will be lucky. Could be back to the days of live timing only :-(
oooo. Mr C and me #samepereson
Someone presumably thinks we have to earn four days off. :)
I have never understood it. We have our year end at Christmas which seems neater to me, but did mean that for the millionth year running I was working right up to the end of Christmas Eve. But if you've decided that it would make more sense to not have it right up against Christmas why did we end up plumping for a date near another national holiday. Seems mad!
other news from Malaysia today - muslim woman had her punishment for drinking beer in public reduced by king (or sultan) from 6 times cane to 3 month public works ...
goodness me. I hope Lewis doesn't do any burn outs there
seriously, 3 years ago there was a booth among all the F1 merchandise booth at the Sepang track running a video with pretty brutal and graphic footage of caning ...
Hello Sidepodcast chums.
Those with you with an Autosport digital edition subscription (not print): have you been able to successfully download today's issue?
Us print folk are presented with an apologetic message saying that due to unforeseen circumstances, the online version of the magazine is not available to us. Even received an Email apologising for the snag they've encountered.
Seems rather strange, and slightly annoying, as the magazine has failed to turn up this morning and won't get here now until Saturday. Ho hum.
Seems okay for me.
seeing McLaren link to first practice results on twitter had me panicking that someone had made Malaysia like Monaco and they had practice while I was at the supermarket. Silly McLaren.
phew, me too. I thought I had missed something I am bound to miss tomrrow
Thanks, thought that might be the case.
Rather annoying is this!
A lot of companies have it at the Financial Year End (i.e. now) for tax purposes and the reason the tax year ends now is because it has for a couple of hundred years I think... and I can't remember why... might be when the calendar system changed or I might be making htat up.
Sorry not the Financial year, the Tax year. I get confused because I'm not fully involved.
I'm sure it didn't happen before Easter was invented though....
Indeed. I thought they moved the tax year to april to avoid christmas... but it seems silly to move it to near easter. Who knows though.
but Easter jumps around due to when the full moon is.
Australia's financial year ends at a different time to New Zealand. I get confused.
Yeah but there's no reason the tax year can't end in October when basically nothing happens ever.
ours ends at the same time as the financial year, June 30
I'm going to write to someone and ask that Easter is always during the Malaysian Grand Prix. It will make going there easier.
I like that idea
although, every 11 years Easter Sunday is on my birthday and I quite like that. Chocolate and presents!
Indeed... Turns out Pat W was right...
Indeed it is the most famous of the movable feasts (which is where that phrase comes from)
I missed by almost a week this year
it has been the case for several seasons :-)
My birthday was always awesome when I was a kid. It always falls in the May half term. Only 1 year in 7 I'd have to go to school on my birthday.
Hey folks,
Just saw an article on PitPass (yes, I know - unreliable) that Mosley might be the new F1 commissioner. Is this an April Fools joke or something? {Comment #28}
Given that there'd be a clash between the F1 Commissioner role and his automatic Senate position, it is a 100% guarantee that Mosley isn't going to be the new F1 Commissioner. After all, when was the last time he was willingly demoted from a position of power?
I think as an adult that's more sucky though. You can't go away for your birthday because it's expensive and there are children everywhere....
Ah my AAT course was worth something in the end.
tell me about it. I wonder if these peoe would mind if I lock there kids up in a cupboard somewhere
That's true, my parents wanted to be here for my birthday but the flights were too expensive since it is school holidays. Ah well, they shall be here 9 days after it and then I can have a second birthday :D
my colleague turned to me yesterday and said "Whats that place called where they store children during the day?"
I quite like the word "storage" when discussing child care.
:D sadly those places close at night
I don't understand how I'm not obese sometimes.... I am watching a stupid tv diet show. To be honest, my diet looks a lot like theirs......
#myperfectf1
Qual: 12-laps, 60 minutes, quali tyres
Stops: Tyres
Tyres: Free choice
Aero: Moderately high (no ugly winglets and completely flat bottom but otherwise free), but with the wakes on either side instead of the middle
Someone has just given me an Easter Egg. What is the appropriate amount of time to wait before eating it?
3 seconds?
you are waiting?!
I'd save it for Easter Sunday but that's a personal thing :P
Fabulous.
What if you get 10 eggs? You can't eat them all in one day, surely?
I'm one of those odd people that won't open gifts early either though.
I got a bunny at work yesterday from the easter bunny. I waited until I got home. Most other people ate them straight away :D
I'd probably give some of them away.
Ah, cool.
hang on. We are talking about chocolate right?
Hehehe
Thinking about it, this is probably how I have given obesity the slip :)
I am cooking kangaroo for dinner. Apparently it's very healthy :D
it puts a spring in your step
i think the done thing is to wait until you have someone to share it with...
He means letting themselves 10 laps down instead of saying 5-6 laps down? Just as well, then.
when was the last time a car finished unclassified? {Comment #32}
Christijan Albers, 2005 Hungarian Grand Prix. He'd had some sort of technical problem, restarted but finished 11 laps down in a 70-lap race.
Oh yea.
Christijan! http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dscn1540-medium-jpg
The team tweets are hilarious. There is currently a lot of rain falling from the sky and has been for at least an hour.
@VirginRacing have told me we're under cover. Unfortunately the coffee machine is under a different cover ;-) and @clubforce has observed that there are only so many jammy dodgers we can eat. Still raining, still stuck
Morning all :)
you like albers?
whats a jammy dodger? sounds delicious.
I believe I commented at the time how amazed I was that someone had an Albers hat on. I just had to photograph it :D
Jammy dodgers are biscuit equivalent of Greggs. They are awesome.
Oh my word, you're missing out!
It's 2 shortbread biscuits with raspberry jam in between them http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/files/2009/11/jammie-dodgers-11201.jpg
based on the picture of them on wiki, we have those in new zealand and call them shrewsburys. My googling tells me that in england that is something completely different. Stupid english langugae.
whats a jammy dodger? sounds delicious. {Comment #219}
A type of sweet biscuit with a round base that has the texture of light shortbread, a strawberry jam filling and a light shortbread-textured ring on top. Think jazzy custard creams and you won't be far off.
Update: the rain is easing and @clubforce is off to get some food the team physio would approve of.

ever since you first posted it there hasnt been a week where i havent had people looking at me funny for singing it
ahh, my job here is done.
because where else you can experience that ?
We aren't as obsessed generally we watch on Saturday night but only a few hours later. {Comment #135}
Same here. Though I had fun looking for clues to Journey's End, swimming club gets in the way of watching Doctor Who when it is initially broadcast.
hmm, remind me again why I want to go there? {Comment #229}
I know why I'd want to go there, but since the reason is that it would be easy to go and see my best friend (who lives in Singapore) on the way to/from the circuit, it probably won't persuade you to go.
Doctoe Who PING - http://toata.wordpress.com/2010/04/01/71-things-you-may-not-know-about-the-new-doctor/
i'm baffled by alonso playing the team game:
It was also the best positions for the team, third and fourth, because we knew that the McLaren and Red Bull was coming very quick to attack us in the last couple of laps, so my job at that time of the race was just to defend our third and fourth position, and not to attack anyone.
so he's saying he was happy to be massa's rear gunner?
http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/04/01/fernando-alonso-i-only-want-the-sunday-afternoon-points/
hey all
Hullo :) you alright?
yep, been doing textiles all morning to avoid any f1 silly stories... lol
i dont thats actually what he did, but it sounds much better on a press release than;
"Massa was dog slow today wasnt he? wouldnt let me past silly man"
Whether or not he was happy to be there, I was happy he was there. Had he passed Massa, Hamilton would have easily overtaken Felipe. Massa couldn't have pulled off an excellent corner entry trail-brake block like Fernando did.
i have no idea what that is, but it sounds good :)
oooh look im now missing words out rather than just spelling them wrong
That reminds me of someone.
it's new cool. fill in own words ;)
Right before Webber did a very Mark like thing and plowed into Hamilton, Lewis figured he had Fernando. Coming into the corner, Fernando had position and also late braked and continued brake cadence through the corner (shown when he locked and then ceased locking). Braking through a corner is trail-braking, very effective if you have someone believing they have an overtaking ability because it allows you a couple different lines.
Alex aka f1photos has a fish eye lens!

not fair... i want one too lol
ahh wow. that's very cool. to me, i just thought he locked his rears defending too hard. ta.
I am sorting out my photos, finally. I took way too many of Jenson. #blameLou
He did that too. He came in smoking hot and at a bad angle and over braked and locked for a split second. His ability to cadence brake (minute modulations of the brake pedal) pulled him out of the lock and allowed him to pull out of the lock and still travel faster around the corner than Hamilton.
I am sorting out my photos, finally. I took way too many of Jenson. #blameLou {Comment #259}
Well... ...better too many of a driver than too few ;)
ehehehehehehe!! :D
here is a sample :D http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dscn1461-medium-jpg
I am annoyed now that I had nothing for Jenson to sign
awesome!! :D hehe (hearts) amy for taking so many. It makes me feel less bad for the stupid amount i will probably take this summer if people who don't even particularly support him take so many pics :P
oh dear, I hope they don't put Jenson and Heikki onthe same stage at Spa
I took heaps of everyone! Except Heikki, I was too busy talking to him :D
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/01/an-aside-with-joe-hes-not-looking-very-shiny-at-all/
:D
hehehe i'm useless at just talking to famous people.. other people tend to do the talking for me, if i get time to compose myself before hand i kinda can. you are much better than i am, so you can talk to jenson for me at Spa ;)
Anyone having troubles cos of this BT business?
YES
yay!!!... gosh i still have to catch up with spc posts... yesterday was a busy busy day on the internet
What BT business? Maybe if I woke up and watched GMTV today which had my favourite actor presenting the weather as he did in one of my favourite films I'd know :(
"Disconnected customers who need the emergency services should try their mobile or a neighbour's landline, BT recommended."
thanks bt
I hadn't heard anything about it until we started getting phone calls this morning. Rather unforunate timing.
hahahahahah.
i know!
btw lou, have you got the JB walk with giants video to work yet?
We've had very bad problems with card processing. No debit card payments are currently possible.....
how did they call you?
erm... what video?...
We aren't affected directly here.
tell me about it... Luckily we have DR telephone lines here.
This kicked off yesterday morning though, maybe that's a seperate issue?
Remember us telling you about Jenson doing some filming for Johnnie Walker - check out the vid here - http://www.johnniewalker.com/walkwithgiants
http://twitter.com/TheFifthDriver/status/11418603973
apparently austria also affected :)
All seems fine now. Wasn't aware of anything.
I hadn't realised there was a problem with the phones though. What actually happened?
Noooo not austria!!
That's when it happened. Yesterday morning 10am.
There was a fire in paddington. The fire brigade poured water on the fire... the water flooded the telephone exchange...
:)
That's good. I think maybe 80% of our branches have no connections and it's a bit of a problem.
I say let us all go home early, but I don't think the bosses are convinced.
Ah okay, that's close to what I heard.
As I said, it's not just phones. Debit card processing is completely down.
I'm really disappointed that the iCade isn't real - http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/other/icade_main_zoom.jpg
30,000 BT Broadband customers are also affected.
according to bt it didn't happen like that though:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/31/burne_house_burns/
That's so cool!
oooooh!!! listening to the podcast now :)
oh the flooding caused the fire... interesting... We were having some problems getting through to BT as... urm... all of their communications were down.
:D
There's a problem with BT and we're not affected here? This must be a first. A landmark occasion.
Telecommunications being rather important to our business we have 4 routes out of our building. So we had to switch to our VOIP solution for 80% of our calls. The traders link to the stock exchange wasn't affected.
I believe, although it wasn't confirmed, that the O2 cell in the square mile crashed. 02 have most blackberry and iPhone users which is quite a lot in the city!
I kind of wish we were affected because then I could have done my own work instead of answering the bosses year end queries..
Ok, it's that time where I have to go to work in the cave and be cut off from all outside communication =/ Have fun in the real world all.
*trudges unhappily to his secure facility to go look at cisco router debug files*
hehehe that was awesome!! (hearts) Jenson. It's good to hear him talk about last year and what he's thinking about 2010. Thanks for pointing that out mr c, i would have missed it otherwise.
byeeeeeeeeeee, have fun*
*fun probably wont be as fun as this ;) sorryyyy
Hehe.
They think perhaps we might be fixed now and it actually had nothing to do with the BT thing but because that happened it was easiest to blame it on the fire. I think this should be a rule of life.
#blameBT
BT could also stand for Barrowman and Tennant. I know who I blame.
*shakes fist*
Absolutely. Whenever there's a problem with anything like that we always #BlameBT first. :)
I'm reading today's presser, with Rubens and Karun.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82579
I love the question from Ted and Rubens' responses :D
2 cool pictures I has found;

Insert Joke Here

Crofty and Ted! (i think)
You be correct!
*Thump* good luck
My friend once did that to me before a kart race. I'd got myself in the zone, one friend asked what i was doing, i said i was focusing and the other one said "'he's getting in the zone" and then thumped me on the head. Fair to say i wasnt in 'the zone' no more ;)
Wow. Reading the BTCC preview at Autosport and this factlet appeared - a new entrant works for FOM:
Hollamby has been a race-winner in everything from Formula First to the VW Cup, and was a champion in Multisports as long ago as 1989, while fitting his day job as a producer for FOM's F1 coverage around it. He brings the Golf back to the BTCC for the first time in 21 years and will win a lot of fans in his ex-Baltic series machine, which has undergone a major aero upgrade by his AmD squad. Don't expect miracles though.
I'm wondering how that works this weekend as he can't be at Sepang and Thruxton at once.
http://twitpic.com/1cdmqp
"michael about to head out"
Head out where?!?
wait, what?!
someones clock is 13 hours early
I am now catching up with my tv recordings from last weekend. In this segment the Aus hosts are interviewing Legard. It's quite terrifying.
cheating.
Who are all those people peering through a window, and why's there a window in the pit? Is this a demo run somewhere?
http://twitpic.com/1cdmqp
"michael about to head out"
Head out where?!? {Comment #319}
Into last week if I recognise that particular photo...
oooh I never saw them! Must be
Hah! I just thought that was an odd wall design.
Maybe it is..
Maybe thats how the FIA keeps check on the cars in parc ferme
The news is picking up.. more Stuff on Autosport:
- outboard mirrors to be banned from China
- Michelin coming back?
Good, I like Michelin... and it might be a tyre war
:D
"...it is believed there is a chance the governing body will simply open up the entry criteria to allow any qualified manufacturer in - reigniting an F1 tyre war."
if true. i heart jean todt.
I think we may have to start complaing that jean Todt is doing everything right so far. This just cannot be!
:)
But if you were an f1 team, you'd go for Michelin above anything else, no-one else would have a tyre anywhere near fast enough
unexpected... for sure :)
Me too, and I never ever thought I'd be saying that.
Joe said Max did the same at the start of his reign and then he went loopy :D
with testing so limited, i wouldn't bet on that. when did michelin make slicks?
Depends who else is in it. If Bridgestone stay..
ahh. we'll enjoy it while it lasts :)
I guess if Michelin came they might.
but knowledge of f1 tyres vs no-knowledge, even if its from many years ago is better than nothing
I think that was because he stayed around so long, I don't think Todt is intrested in doing the same.
For F1? In the 70s or early 80s with Ferrari.
I await the decision to cut costs in 5 years time by having 3 wheel Reliant Regal F1
true, but no tender process could see pirelli etc come back.
everything I know about 3 wheel vehicles I learned from Mr Bean.
I'm trying to think of other open-wheel series they supply and I can't think of any. They are very good in sportscars.
they did? had no idea.
and we'd get bibendum back on the podium!
YES!
Excellent education if I may say so
Although Mr Bean had a green Mini didn't he? Although I remember him crashing into a 3 wheeler lots of times. Well, I say overtaking rather than crashing.
1977-1984 apparently
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin#Formula_One
It says Renault but I'm convinced Ferrari ran them for a time
indeed, he had the mini but the 3 wheeler appeared to be his nemesis.
I thought so, I was getting a little mixed up in my memories.
ah that swimming episode at the car park and the ticket barrier.
I heart Timo;
http://twitpic.com/1cdp9l
If there is so much heat, u have to cool down sometimes!!!! because of this, I´ve got my own pool in my drivers
Drink!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin#Bibendum
Slogan: "Nunc est bibendum"
The 1898 poster showed him offering the toast Nunc est bibendum ("Cheers!" or "Now is the time to drink" in Latin) to his scrawny competitors with a glass full of road hazards, with the title and the tag C'est à dire: À votre santé. Le pneu Michelin boit l'obstacle ("That is to say, to your health. The Michelin tyre drinks up obstacles").
he must get points for that!
Definite points boost :D
wtf?
They did, from 1978 until 1981. :)
heheheh. does he fill it with rainwater?
i think its fair to say the end of that sentance got chopped off ;)
aha!
If there is so much heat, u have to cool down sometimes!!!! because of this, I´ve got my own pool in my drivers room!!!! I´m really proud of it!
French reggae band Tryo have sung about Bibendum on their album Grain De Sable. 'Monsieur Bibendum, il est vraiment énorme / Monsieur Bibendum, le bonheur en personne' - 'Mr Bibendum, he is truly enormous, Mr Bibendum; happiness in person'.
Oooh.
Rally news:
http://wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=405&season=2010&rally_id=HKJ&category=&stage=4
Kimi is 12th. When is he scheduled to drop his usual half hour? ;)
That is lyrcal genius.
Kimi is 12th. When is he scheduled to drop his usual half hour? {Comment #367}
I don't think Kimi does scheduling. Just when we expect him to drop half an hour, I imagine he will gain it and win the rally...
[sigh] lunch over..
that wasn't a cue for everyone to shut up btw ;)
Lewis after the drivers parade "probably the best drivers parade I've ever had in my whole life, everyone was shouting out burnout"
oh the sarcasm
He'll find out whoever did it.
:)
I have fastforwarded through 3 days of footage, stopping to watch the random paddock interviews to see who I can spot in the background.
I think I have a problem. #sidepodintervention
WOW
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13248065
that's all that needs saying
aww they were interviewing Eddie Jordan and Timo sticks his head in shot as he walks past, grabs the microphone and says 'he's not right, he's definitely not right'
Timo <3
I know people say McLaren made Jenson shave his beard but there's no need for that, Nick
they just asked Miss Poland if she could name any of the drivers and she said no. Poor Kubica.
what the hell!!! i know it's been months since i last saw a pic of him.. but... seriously!!!
The news is picking up.. more Stuff on Autosport:
- outboard mirrors to be banned from China {Comment #329}
I've just realised that this means we have monocoque sorbet - otherwise nobody will be able to change the wing mirrors until the end of the season.
Unless it's an April Fool (and the date of the news item makes this possible, if unlikely).
Bit lonely: http://twitpic.com/1cc6gs
Who won the golf game, Rubens or Heikki?
My game is still open even though the rally has started. I didn't realise it started today until it was too late, and thought it was better not to give people only a 24hr window to enter..

yay or Kimi news :) thanks for the updates kathi
Has BlogF1 died?
Maybe. I can't get on it either.
Ollie said the other day he hadn't renewed the domain
Not on purpose I mean, he just forgot
ah ok, that makes sense

rail strike is off. meet up on?
A planned national rail strike by the RMT union has been called off after Network Rail challenged it in the High Court.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8598456.stm
Full credit for not getting lost, that looks confusing.
Hey all.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a course map and a course walk in the beginning. The key to it all is to try to get a spot on the grid in the later runs, so you can watch everyone else and see the lines they're taking.
it always amazes me how you guys can remember where on earth you're going.
i can tell you take your mental prep seriously with a pre-run convo like that ;)
did Alison end up canceling her train tickets and things? it must have caused her a load of unnecessary stress.
What day are we expecting the meetup to happen?
i think they cancelled it
it's like gt4!
Sat 9th
Afternoon all
LOL, I do take a lot seriously, but once I'm in the car there isn't much I can do but joke around with people. When I'm out of the car, I'm pacing around like Alain Prost and being very meticulous about everything.
It's a pretty stressful day at first but after you've had 2 or 3 runs, you lighten up a ton.
In the morning, when I wake up, I take some vitamins, drink some water and take some Ginko to make sure my mind is as sharp as possible.
Not the 7th or was I making that up?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodpub+Meetup:+April+2010
I thought it was in the week?
That's when Gavin's in town I think
Alison & Nick are the weekend
that's a friday?
Then it's the 10th
Sorry
okay,
Hi btw :)
Hey Lou
You got your Spa tix then? :D
All updated, probably wrong somewhere, but still.
In the afternoon, once you've gotten your morning runs out of the way, you already know if you're going to be fast that day or not, so everyone becomes less serious and we all start joking around with each other. Like last weekend, in the afternoon I already knew my car was going to be a mid-pack car that day, so I took the class markings from my friends car off the side of his vehicle and make this on the back of his car:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4474809786_e2a6c5932c_o.jpg
Be careful, there are two things that week
Gavin in the week, which is what the wiki page is for
i'm all ready to press confirm. dad's on his way home and wants to check it before i do anything (so he feels in control). lol
This is so totally not confusing at all.
I thought it was midweek too
The week one I can do 100%. The Saturday one, not so much.
Reverse the changes :)
The Sat thing doesn't need a wiki page, it's not an 'official meet' ;)
we're going to be there on the 7th is that helps.
Already have... I'm so glad I live up here at times.
Thats alright then :D I shall be there too
awww :(
me too.. lukeh, book your tickets for then ;)
aw :(
w00t!
Sorry for the confusion
Alison's train journey has a lot to answer for :)
It wasn't meant to be a sad comment, just meaning I was glad not to be confused about which is what... but, I suppose it could mean both.
Note to self, stop confusing myself.
is it too early to ask what's happening on the 7th? lol ;)
I hear theres an f1 exhibition on at the science museum
http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/about_us/press_and_media/press_releases/2009/03/Fast Forward.aspx
;)
Ask Gavin or suggest something on the Wiki
:D
hehe. wasn't planning on taking a day off though, just pub from 7pm(ish). is that cool with everyone?
fine by me.. lukeh.. can we go to the V&A during the day please?... thanks ;)
:)
not that i'm desperate to go to some more art galleries or anything... ;)
See, she already has it planned out :)
The trains back to wales go a lot later for me now so won't be a problem here, can stay a lot longer than I did last year.
we're going to the photographers gallery (which i only realised existed the other day) too.... just so you know ;)
wonderful.
Hey everyone,
What goes on?
I've been busying myself in readiness for this weekend:
2010 Malaysian Grand Prix Preview (Sepang, Round 3) - http://tinyurl.com/ybppwho
The Possible Return of Michelin - http://tinyurl.com/ydraffm
(and)
Sometimes Wonderful Things Happen - http://tinyurl.com/yetttcl
Now I intend to do nothing until first practice
:D
Is that near Leicester Sq?
Hi Leigh
yay for blogging ;)
Hi Bassano + Mr C
Had loads of stuff to do, so decided to jam it out in 1 hour
:)
Grrrrr!! What now???
it's here apparently - http://www.photonet.org.uk/index.php?pid=14
i was asked about it in an interview and i'd never heard of it let alone been there. so thought i should check it out..
You WHAT????
Oh my God. I'm just going to curl up in a ball and cry.
It's fine, it's all sorted now, nout you can do about it.
We're never going to find that. It's nowhere near a tube station. :P
Except they released timetables yesterday, confirmed my train was cancelled so now I have booked a bus ticket. What do I do now????
Ah, not what I was thinking about
Let me know how it is, I'm sure it'll be fab
You use the bus?
Take the bus
*hugs* at least you've got the bus ticket?..
But I don't want to. I wanted to get the train which is why I bought a train ticket.....
is there another one?
Then phone the bus company and see if you can get a refund?
I presume I can still get my train ticket refunded?
I went to an exhibition of photos a few years back. Was v near Leic Sq station
You mean they weren't plannin on refunding you originally?
I would think that'd be a reasonable request
haha.. i'd argue but it's true... i'll print out a map and things.. we'll stumble across it.
They told me I had to post the ticket back which I haven't done yet. It's not an instant thing. I also presume it's going to take them ages to get it all sorted.
I am so annoyed.
Phone them up and see if it's still valid.
I was only kidding :) by the looks of things it's only 2 corners away from the station.
So yeah, we'll totally lo.. I mean, we'll stumble across it. :P
Unless the bus ticket is refundable, there's no point is there
Well I can't refund my bus ticket. It costs a fortune to get refundable ones. I have to take the bus. I am actually going to cry. I am that angry.
oh yeah, do that first, then phone Naitonal rail
:P you think finding that is gonna be hard... there are loads and loads of pubs in london, we've somehow got to get to the right one by 7pm... ;)
Is Emily going, she'll find it ;)
awwww Alison! *offers cup of tea* it will work out, and i'm sure it will all be worth it in the long run.
hahaha no, Emily's in Spain next week.
on tuesday we did find the one you were talking about a while ago on the Strand though.. totally by chance
Ah, it's the same gallery in a new location
Used to be on Great Newport St
http://www.urban75.org/london/photographers-gallery-old.html
It seems to be a tough one to find ;)
Oh shut up
Easy now
the coal one?
Yep. Never mind
we could easily done what you did. Come next week i probably will..
wow that is bad english :s i apologise.
I have just seen something I never thought I'd see in my life...
...a kart race with only one overtaking move. Due to the person being overtaken being engaged in an argument with someone who'd crashed.
Let's just say that the track, which will remain anonymous, will never have me racing on it...
in fairness janna did suggest you wait. i appreciate it doesn't help now, but there was always a chance.
hehehe some fan questions put to Jenson and Lewis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=820bMCyOXoY
They just seem to ramble on alot... but it's oddly funny.
and then a behind the scenes...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v05uMAfUw-4
photoshoots look fun!
lewis reads out loud like i do :)
Definitely BFF
bffs? ;)
meanies :(
awwwww
#loveyoureallymrc
Patrice?!?! Why is he there?
who is he?
who?
He is/was a vj for a German music TV channel (VIVA) and then he had a thing with Anastacia I think...
Now I'm even more lost than I was before... :)
oops it was MTV Germany. Look they even have fan videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QF_itXFnm4
ahh cool. was assuming he was involved in f1 :)
Ah that's better. :)
Home at last.
evening pat
Hi
Robert Doornbos answered the question of which other open wheel series use Michelins.
http://twitpic.com/1cewap
Formula Renault too
AN ASIDE WITH JOE! W00T!!
Lou, this is what I was talking about last night; ala Autosport and weekend pass
http://www.autosport.com/plus/?wp=1
hehehe i've just discovered this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GcGBQAYeL4
I love that Lewis wanted parking sensors and Jenson didn't :) hehehe
ahhh cool. i'll take a look at that. thanks.
I've only just realised the Youtube april fools thing. *facepalm*
Something about TEXT format videos?
Yup, videos in ASCII art. It's quite impressive in an odd, totally unviewable whatsoever way :)
i need some entertainment which twitter and facebook are both failing to provide. LUUUUUUKEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!
I'm watching Muse videos in ASCII art, I don't know if you can get life much more exciting than that.
That sounds awesome. if only my phone wasnt so rrrubbish!
jenson ascii art is quite cool.
i wish i understood what that was...
Ascii art is art that is created by letters and numbers. Youtube has an option today to view videos like this, on some videos (not all) choose the TEXTp option and it'll play the video in letters and numbers. It's really odd but quite funky
They actually made videos? That's an april fool too far....
It's just a clever filter, they didn't remake all videos :P
I think it may be ones that 'HD' options
my dad will do anything to get out of paying for Spa... he can't find his credit card now...
he also thought i was going for just one day :s
tis true. no ascii christine on the internet :(
dad has walked off without paying for the Spa tickets... this is going to be harder than i thought... i may have to try again later..
it is your birthday present, he is legally obliged to pay ;)
Boo!! Also, only one day? Has he not seen you every other weekend for the past few years for several days watching f1? :P
There's no way I'm going to Spa now.... I can't even make it to London without event.
Back everyone,
Just finished my monthly playlist of stuff that's just about kept me on my toes through March
:)

everything makes sense!
hehehe i know. he seems happier that it's for 4 days (the price seems much more reasonable) lol, He was so close to paying... then he got onto the subject of unis with me.. then went to go let the cat in.. he hasn't come back hmmm..
:)
@mr c and people hoping for the sidepodmeetup, is it still firmly pencilled in for next week?
I think that background has been photoshopped in, I do
yeah i know! he said when he used to go to GPs and other races he'd just go for the race. I asked him if he was up to driving me down to belgium one very very very very very early August morning, and then driving me back the same day much much much later. He then realised that 4 days was sensible :D heheh
yup.
well, the midweek one anyhow.
Apologies for the dire commenting btw, mobile doohickey on a less-than-good phone.
Any details yet?
By any chance do you have a Nokia 'I see you are trying to type, let me crash for you' 5800?
mwahahaha i have the credit card in my hand!! eheh
i would guess the plan is to rely on alex to find a suitable spot.
he finally caught up with him: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13248090
:)
Grand plan

"so how does this F-Duck thing work? i stick my knee where?"
Greetings sidepodworld
evening steven
how does you be sir?
ehehee!!! ticket booked!!! i'm going to a grand prix!!! :D
yay :D
Survivng the very dodgy weather. Typical Scottish weather. 4 seasons in one hour
YAY
Aye - know that feeling
:o
I'm writing about real time applications in my dissertation at the moment, and I've just written Real Time Doohickey for the 5th time.
#obsessed
hehe. what else are you covering?
at the moment I'm just writing about different ways computing can be used with special educational needs, hence why I'm talking about real time stuff to help with issues like cerebral palsy, etc. Then moving onto more technical computing talk with other disabilities. Fingers crossed by the time the meetup comes I'll have 75% of the dissertation done :)
Excellent
Do you think I could sue my train company for stress or relationship breakdown or something?
blimey, had never considered that.
i'm not sure you could successfully sue a train company for ensuring all the trains are running on time. no.
Nick dumped you? At least your train is back on.
The man has a point
yay!!
When you put it like that it's hard to make a case
:( probably not. at least you get a 4 day weekend now... thursdays are rrrubbish though :(
Hahaha I should think not!!
This is not good news. It has just made me angry. I have to take the bus. Nick has not had a lot of sympathy. He thinks it's silly. Because he's never got worked up about something I think is silly.....
Theres not a great deal you can do about it, you changed and went for a bus, not you can't change it you'll have to take that. Yes it sucks and trains are better but without wasting a bus ticket theres not a great deal you can do about it!
he should definitely make you (or at least buy you) lots of pancakes when you see each other..
I had to book it though. They announced my train as one that would definitely go if there was a strike. The cut off for a reduced bus was yesterday. Today it would have cost more than the train did.....
Go on the train if it is running rather than the bus.
and a Milky Bar
You need to stop planning ahead and wait to the last minute like sensible people do. No stress that way
it's the sidepodway
And a high court ruled against the strike, there was no way you could have known that, you could have waited but it may have still gone on and then you'd have lost that way.
I know it sucks but theres nothing you can do about it.
Eurgh. It's too expensive!!
more expensive though
in this instance, wouldn't it have worked out cheaper?
Thing is didn't they rule against a BA strike? That went ahead anyway.
Maybe you should sue the high court.
No. I can have a refund on the train tickets. I'm just annoyed I have to get the stupid bus. I hate the bus.
But no stress or broken relationships
i thought they did at xmas? the second one went ahead.
I know but there was no way she could have known, in hindsight it would have been better to wait
what? what's all the fuss then?
I guess the BA union were not balloting signal boxes that closed down 50 years ago
it was something to do with the way they did the balot i think
You want to sit on a bus for 12 hours for no reason?
Kimus Räikkönus :D
:D :D :D :D :D hehehe!!!
For making trains run on time?
haa. love that he's still wearing his race suit
I knew rally drivers had different safety gear from F1 drivers but that looks odd
:(
i'd would just drive.
:D
How can anyone in this country cope with the concept of trains that run on time.
Yes, the court ruled that the ballot process for the Christmas strikes was flawed so the strike would be illegal. The ballot had to be redone, hence the strikes taking place the last two weeks.
when i went to Falmouth the train arrived at each station early!! it was unnerving
there ya go. so there will be more strikes, just when they're all good and legal
Oh well. They've saved me from my own extravagance. The train was too expensive anyways....
ooh yeah ive had that, tis wierd
:( more money to spend during your time off?
Do any of you travel on routes with scheduled waiting time? That's always weird. My trains from Liverpool used to sit at Preston for 50 minutes for no real reason. Very frustrating.
Yeah, to be fair to him, Nick said he'd pay for the bus ticket so I could get the train. I said I'd rather go to LegoLand :D
Just had a huge shot of encouragement when I asked someone how they're getting on with their dissertation. They replied with (this is their actual line)
i haven't done anymore than 100 or so words hehe
This has to be done in 26 days time. 15,000 words. Staggering stuff....
Shouldn't the two of you be going to the same place
They're playing hide and seek
The area of play is...
England
I don't think he wants to travel on the bus :D I wouldn't wish that on anyone tbh....
Blimey. I had a 10k one to do and it took 3 months.
ooo, that sounds horrible, never had that before.
Same here. Although I was so enthused, I actually rewrote it after I finished university
Anyone for FantasyWRC results? Remember Danny scores each stage so we have results for day 1.
I made up 5 places in the main game and lie 7th, and 3rd in the league. :-)
http://www.fantasywrc.com/
i've even forgotten who i have in my team... *goes to look*
My tt usually tells me that i need to wait but generally the tube times are so much longer than it actually takes i just get on an earlier train
The longest wait I've had is about 10 or 15 minutes while they connected another train to ours..
They claimed it was for a staff change. I can't see why that takes any longer than passengers getting on and off though. The mystery of the railway.....
i daren't look until kimi does well
To be fair I did look at yours and I reckon you're hurting a lot more by having Loeb take up all your cash
People like us are not meant to understand.
Pat, I think we've got the top scores for Jordan so far.
I am liking this 6th, even better than IndyCar this.
oh... i have kimi too i think.
I'm talking about where your train is going along the line, pulls into a station then sits on the platform for nearly an hour before it continues on its way. It's scheduled that way.
oh, so i should change him? i don't know any others.
ooh wow. how odd
Strangely enough I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. :)
In IndyCar I lost 24 places because I forgot to swap out a driver that only did one race.
"All selections have now been FROZEN until after the Rally of Turkey"
ahh, chuff :)
Down to 5th. Started well and heading south now.
Never had that but I tend to drive everywhere
It proves my faith in Oggi is good.
In IndyCar I went from 1st overall to 24th overall, damn that Sato.
Yeah. You can have Loeb scoring a top 3 result on his own, or for that money you can get three other drivers scoring top 6s. Pretty much anyone from the top 8 Kathi posted earlier should do it.
Turkey?
It should read "frozen until the Rally of Turkey"... or "frozen until after Rally of Jordan"..
shirley?
yay!! 18th!!!
Mr C i'm ahead of you... by one place...
blast!
see.... the train down to Falmouth swapped staff at Plymouth, but we weren't stopped at that station for any longer time.
Not acceptable.
i likes his new helmet: http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
I defy anyone to now not like Formula 3 teams ;)
http://twitpic.com/1cgjop
After the severe hail storm there wasn't a lot of testing going on at Pembrey - so the F3 boys got creative....
hahah
That is so much nicer than the Tangerine Monster
I love those cars
Hey all. Just saw online that the rail strikes have been cancelled. Are we still meeting?
Yep, on Wednesday
Cool. Now to work out how I can book Wednesday and Thursday off, when no-one's in work until Tuesday!
will probably be meeting around 7pm... if that helps at all?
hehe. we're just leaving earlier and arriving about 7pm.
I finish work on Wednesday at 4:30...I'll look into it!
7pm sidepodtime? ;)
always!
It's a pub. Someone will be early!
I can think of someone :)
No I think about it, which pub is it?
Now even!
Not sure yet, gonna wait to see what London says.
I mea what Alex says.
good :D Gives Lukeh and I enough time to find it...
Good afternoon spc! I'm on my way to richmond, va right now to pick up some more race tires for this season.
one shouldn't drive and comment at the same time!
How does one say Fairuz Fauzy?
gesundheit.
The way I've heard it is: Fye Ruz Fow Zee
Surname is FOW zeeee
Never mind, he's on Name That Driver :)
what he said
I've also heard Fay Ruz. Either should be fine.
The Malaysain bloke who is not Alex Yoong
I agree
Ah good :)
I think this has been a good test of SPC commenters, separating the helpful ones from the wiseasses :)
Heheh, "the worst pronunciation I ever heard was Virus".
The problem is when the drivers don't know how to pronounce their name. In his entry on Name that driver Adrian Sutil pronounce Adrian two different ways.
These 2 things are not mutually exclusive.
SPC - the home of helpful wiseasses
:)
The weather symbols on the F1.com suggest that Sepang may not be dry and sunny.
http://www.formula1.com/
Looks...grim
Joe agrees

Half points it is then.

Paxman should do a weekly F1 weather
my question is just, if qually or the race is cancelled, will bernie get the message?
Yes. He's bound to lose money when events are cancelled.
Probably not going to be taking a risk on a dry setup then
good. that makes me happy.
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/04/01/01-apr-10-fauzy-to-drive-for-lotus-in-malaysia-free-practice/
fauzy!
No. They had a race a few years ago - maybe in Australia that only ran something like 16 laps and the result was declared because it was so wet. He will just spin some bull about people complaining about Bahrain being dull then moaning when something like this happens.
People aren't going to keep paying to go to Malaysia if there's no race though.
Bernie dosen't get any money from ticket entry from Malaysia, they pay a flat fee to him and they get the rest of the money.
Empty races dont bother him.
Turkey for example
Bernie doesn't care about that because the Malaysian government is paying him. He will rip them off till they get fed up then move elsewhere
Have we all seen what I assume is an April Fool from xkcd?
http://xkcd.com/
Whatever it is, it's awesomeness.
Ooh, yes I meant to mention it this morning. It's so cool!
LOVEIT!
I think there's a petition for it to be kept beyond today!
that would be brilliant. am in geek heaven.
sudo restart and sudo shutdown work!
Right, who wants a plug in the daily, because I am too tired to think.
wha?
I would have, but I'm too tired to finish my blog post because I can't decide what I think
I think you should get a plug for Doctor who in there somewhere ;)
Try it!
that might be the other way round
I'm in the middle of something if it helps (which it probably doesn't)
*BOOM*
Definitely totally true Dr Who post from this morning
one more day to go! (or it will be when the daily arrives)
if you want to finish editing my preview show you can plug that ;)
Oops, definitely *my*, I mean.
Oh yeah. I keep thinking its Friday!!
Scrabs has three new posts. A Malaysia preview, a piece on Red Bull's ride height control and a great pic of a Sauber wing just as it parts company with the car
Scarbs not scrabs
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/
there's the jenson walk with giants audio thing?... that's a good listen for anyone up at stupid o clock and bored..
russell howard's good news is about to start... it has f1 in it (hopefully).... trust me.. it's an awesome episode... :D
i don't mean episode... i mean show..
I hope they show what I'm hopoing they show. I don;t think they will but it's still gonna be awesome :D
Woo, loads of stuff for the daily. Thanks peoples. I should do this more often :)
hehehehe (heart) him, that was the best recording ever! :)
One new, quick, little post, just for Bernie: http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/2010/04/01/the-malaysian-monsoons/
a brief sleep is calling. catch ya all before fp1.
See ya Mr C
adios!
Lightweight
gosh i need to sleep too... silly russell howard being so awesome.
night mr and mrs c
Nighty night!
I'm off to bed the second it ends!
Night..
:D
Scarbs has a few theories on how the Red Bull ride height control system could work but one I have never heard seems very simple.
If we see the Red Bull's in the pits during qualifying we must check to see if they are cooling the dampers with dry ice.
The dampers are ontop of the monocoque, they'll have to have bodywork off to do that, it would be terribly obvious
They have a flap/cover they can remove to access them. For them to gain an advantage they would need to be at low temperature for Q3 so they must either cool them between session or somehow create a sort of cool bag round the dampers but that would be difficult because there is no space to leave dry ice in there and the pushrods are poking into that compartment.
RIght, Russell Howard has ended, so I'm off to bed. See you guys later!
Bye.
I think you're all mad.
Night Chris.
Good show that.
Night Chris
I'm heading off to sleep too, one has to worry about work instead of practise :P
Night guys!
Night Lukeh
The only sensible one ;) Night.
Have fun.. :)
no!! check you emails in a moment... i have something i want to run past you.....
*waits* ;)
The boss has spoken
:D
okay have sent it to you now... once you've seen it you can sleep if you really have to ;) xx
;)
Ooh my blogging head just woke up. Music and beer helps.
I'm thinking I might abandon that rankings idea I discussed with Gavin. Mr C is right, the championship does it already.
What I'd like to do on the blog is a weekly blog post updating the top ten in points for selected series. Just have to find the time and motivation.. :)
okay, it almost seems pointless for just a few hours... but time for me to get some sleep too. night all xx
Its on iplayer, watch it when you want..
Enjoy practice lou :)
i shall join you in iplayerdom!
Night lou!
evening
and night boss. i mean lou :)
Night
Nick tried to persuade me to wake up for it. I was a bit EURGH
You should watch it live. One of the best things about F1 is getting up in the middle of the night to watch.
For a race yes.
For practice, not so much
For the quali and race maybe, but I'm not too sure since I really do fancy a nice lie-in tomorrow morning.
Is it racing? No? Then I'm not staying up all night for it.
That came over far more blunt that intended, sorry :)
There's no way I can take in the information at that hour. I struggle to do it for a race and the more in-depth technical stuff in FP would go straight through me so there's no point in my trying...
I am feeling much better now :D
I have been very productive. Apparently sorting things out makes you feel better! I have got my tickets ready to post tomorrow, I have written reply to mean overcharging company, I have reported aforementioned company to bank. I'm now looking compulsively for more things to sort.... :P
That's good. Sounds very productive :)
I think I'm still snarky from a bad day at work although I feel a lot better generally.
Fancy editing a podcast? Thats kind of sorting?
Sort Nick out. That should keep you busy for a while
Some might call it a long-term project. :)
Bless.
In the last two years I've skipped a couple of the early morning races and watched them later. I like my sleep ;)
I did that for Australia, though I didn't intend to... was actually quite annoyed I'd drifted back to sleep after the alarm :)
I remember missing China 2008 but then to me that was a dull race. I'll miss them if I believe they will be rather dull.

Just scored some new racing tires. Well not really "new" as the tires are dated, but never used.
