Over the hump of the week now, and we're heading towards the weekend. Still an entire Thursday to go through first though, and Thursday's are rubbish. Nevertheless, I'll be keeping an eye on F1 news to keep going. Here's what we've been talking about today:

  • What would the ex-Honda team livery look like if they are bought out by Richard Branson and his Virgin Group? We've had a couple of examples already, and if you're feeling creative you can leave them in the drop.
  • With testing drawing to a close in Bahrain today, the teams will be hoping to finish up what they've been working on. Toyota will probably be racking up the laps, BMW will need to find some speed, whilst Ferrari may need to work on their cooling issues.
  • FOTA have announced they'll be revealing the direction they want the sport to go in early next month, as they hold a press event. I didn't realise we were expecting anything from them, but apparently FOTA have finalised all their research and have a vision of the future. What might that hold, I wonder?

As ever, keep your comments coming. They don't have to be strictly about anything I've mentioned above, or about Formula 1, in fact. We just like to hear from you. I'll see you in the comments.

Hey check out the USF1 site. I don't know if this was already covered. They have some words on the site. LINK: http://www.usf1.com/

Ken Anderson, Peter Windsor and all at USF1 would like to thank everyone for the amazing response we have received since news first broke about our project on February 4, 2009.

Proving that American technology, American drivers and the American competitive spirit can compete and win on the F1 global stage has been our mission for several years now. And, judging by the overwhelming response we have received from F1 fans both in the US and worldwide, from within the F1 industry and from the US hi-tech industry, we think that many of you agree with us.

We will be officially announcing the team in a special show on Speed TV on February 24 at 13:00 EST.

Ahahahahhh. It is amazing that Max has gotten so many people on this cost cutting hook. Now I just hope that FOTA and Bernie don't screw this up.

Now that this USF1 thing is pretty much happening (fingers crossed) I am officially excited. Really, I haven't been this happy about F1 related US news since Indy was announced to hold the USGP.

I am really hoping this works. I think I will resurrect my failed blog and make it an exclusive USF1 blog. Kind of like I(heart)Franck but without the restraining orders.

I actually agree. It is kind of funny they say this but one of the principles is an Englishman (Winsor.) Even though I don't think they will be another Force India (we actually have the infrastructure to develop and sponsor an F1 team) but if they are going to be successful, they have to build upon the knowhow of the world of F1.

I don’t want them to repeat the same mistakes of Honda and others. You have to operate in the F1 world. You cannot let anything else limit you from succeeding, even if it is well intentioned, dare I say, nationalistic ideas.

  • Dan Brunell19/02/2009 at 00:44

I thought you had sent it before. I knew you had discussed it.

The nope was kind of kurt. The proper awnser is sort of. I sent a letter expressing my interest with some of my experience with the line "full resume or CV upon request."

I am going to take it up to 11.

I have just found an interesting Honda comment on F1F

"I don’t know if this counts for anything, but I drove past the Brackley factory today and the Team Transporters were moving around (yes I was sad enough to stop at the side of the road and look to see if I could see anything..!!). Pitpass is also reporting that team transporters were spotted on the road to Dover…"

  • Journeyer19/02/2009 at 03:26

hmm, could it be freight heading for australia?

In mid-February? There's still 43 days to the first practice session!

It's more probably some testing. I'm guessing it's with Honda's cash, but what does it mean? Does it mean it looks like there won't be a 3rd party and Honda is putting in their money now? Or does it mean that there IS a 3rd party getting ready to buy and Honda is now a bit more confident to spend money and help them be competitive?

  • me19/02/2009 at 03:29

In mid-February? There’s still 43 days to the first practice session!

i recall something about heavy and non-essential freight getting sent via boat, which in the past has left in january.

other parts get flown out by bernie prior to the race weekend.

  • Steven Roy19/02/2009 at 03:29

If it is a test then my guess would be that Honda expect the Branson bid to go through and as a goodwill gesture they have paid for a test. Maybe Branson wants a test to see if the car is anywhere near as good as they have said.

Of course it may not be a test. It may be something like a TV livery test.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)19/02/2009 at 09:47

    A stark Reminder from Honda

I posted this article because of this quote:

While there is talk that a deal has to be done by February 23 - ironically, the day before USF1 announces it's plans- the official deadline is March 3 after which time the doors will be closed at Brackley for good.

I still think there will be a connection revealed between USF1 and Brackley F1. I don't know if it means buying the team, but I have a hunch that there is a link there somewhere...

Not bad for interim cars. Not bad at all.

I've always liked the RX-8 - love the engine - Wankel *snigger*, the looks and the itnerior.

The 944 is a bit of an old love for me. Had a £2000 one about 6 years ago now. Left hand drive 944 Turbo stripped and caged and was an absolute shed. :D I drove that into the ground.

You’re so lucky that you can choose between these three cars

I've been surprised by the prices for both the RX-8 and the 944. Much cheaper than I thought.

8K will get you a good one of either.

Well I've made possibly the easiest £10 ever.

A mate and I always have an F1 related bet to see us through the season and to spice it up a bit. Last year I bet RBR would finish above Honda (his thinking: that they couldn't get any worse than in '07...)

It's very good though for those interested. Not a huge selection of tracks but there's plenty to do, in particular I love the Formula 3000 cars, they're great fun to race about with. Loving the fact you can do full race distances and turn off the HUD if you wish, and have tyre wear, fuel consumption, all rules etc, the likes. :)

I still think rFactor is the best Sim out there though - just because of the amount of Mods and tracks available!

Scott - If you need help for qualifying, then I'm your man, race wise, I'm as good as Nicolas Kiesa.

For qually - Make sure you have a set up for both drivers correct, and then under team orders, click 'Do or Die'. That usually knocks a few seconds off.

Focus on the 5 star sponsors like the faq says and don't worry if too much if you are losing that much every race for the first season, mine stabilised after that. Although I am only in the second year of my first game since it got mentioned here before.

  • Al19/02/2009 at 18:45

Thanks. I’m also a bit in need of help with the parts. Should I go with the best parts all the time and if so how often should I replace them?

I'm doing the 2008 mod with Ferrari so it may be easier for me, but I go with the best parts and change them all after every race as most are usually down to about 20%. Also checking which teams have the best parts and "investigating" them helped me a lot.

That happened to me a lot before I started checking the teams out beforehand to decide what I was going for as the more I tried to do the more likely they were to catch me. I think by the end of the season I was being fined 550000 so you have a while to go before you get to that level.

  • Alianora La Canta19/02/2009 at 19:15

    hmm, could it be freight heading for australia? {Comment #41}

I suppose it could be the sea portion. To save money, teams take stuff that doesn't need to be flown by boat, but it takes several weeks longer for the goods to arrive that way.

Good news though, since it takes a fair bit of money and faith to be transporting the amount of goods ex-Honda are likely to be shipping.

Set the lap you want them to come in on then give them one lap more fuel than that. I think it suggests how many laps fuel you need that way as well.

  • lou19/02/2009 at 20:54

How did i miss these comments this morning...

I have just found an interesting Honda comment on F1F

“I don’t know if this counts for anything, but I drove past the Brackley factory today and the Team Transporters were moving around (yes I was sad enough to stop at the side of the road and look to see if I could see anything..!!). Pitpass is also reporting that team transporters were spotted on the road to Dover…”

If true that's a very positive sign indeed. If it was for testing, wouldn't that also imply that an engine deal has been signed with Mclaren/Mercedes?

i must sleep, how come every night i end up going to bed thinking of honda? just not right.

There is an idea for a mini series. We have had team sites and driver sites but there must be all sorts of people associated with F1 who have sites.

Wow, that's actually a pretty good effort in comparison to other F1 personalities.

You can't kid the fans and viewers. Just tell it honestly the way you see it and they'll make their own minds up. In my experience sports fans take their sport and its TV coverage very seriously. You have to add passion, value and facts or they'll dismiss you. From martinbrundle.com

Hey check out the USF1 site. I don’t know if this was already covered.

God! Which lousy Andretti from IRL/Nascar are they dumping in F1 now? I mean all the offspring seem to have inherited their racing genes from their mother!

The EU ban didn't become law until 2006, but remember you are watching a US advert adapted for the UK. The law in question also banned the use of lead containing solder which is actually the best tool for the job compared to lead free alternatives. I'm carefully eking out my last remaining reel. I seem to remember something about this law affecting the manufacture of pipe organs too.

I have absolutely zero experience with blogger, but I do with CSS (the style.css file that almost undoubtedly contains the necessary requirements to centre your header). Are you allowed to edit that file? If so (although depending on how the header is incorporated into the site), adding "margin: 0 auto;" to the #header line should work.

If you care to give me a link to the site in question (here or ollie [at] blogf1.co.uk), I could probably help further if the above doesn't work.
