It's Saturday, and for about half the UK, it seems like it's snow day as well. I have only seen the occasional flake but we're hearing about all sorts of various weather reports from around the country. I wonder whether it really will be a white Christmas. Anyway, here are some of the F1 related things we're talking about:

  • Stuart seems to have the scoop on the single launch idea going kaput, and there has been no official word from FOTA as yet on the matter. It seems likely that this is the case, though, because I can't imagine the smaller teams were at all happy with the idea.
  • The Schumacher comeback is looking even more likely, as Luca di Montezemolo wrote about it on the Ferrari website. The poor guy doesn't seem that impressed, using the age-old trick of claiming it is a twin brother involved, rather than facing up to the fact that Schumi just wants to move onwards and upwards.
  • Also, the future of the Turkish Grand Prix began to look a bit uncertain as Bernie has apparently asked for double the current amount to host a race. Needless to say the organisers are not impressed and that means the fabulous Turn 8 could be off our calendars from as early as 2011.

With so much news bouncing around, we realised we'd be doing a double show this weekend, and as Sunday is busy enough with the Sidepodparty, we'll be doing an impromptu live show tonight - a Saturday. I know, it's wrong, just like Doctor Who felt wrong when it was on Sunday. Still, we'll do our best to muddle through. Expect a thread about seven or eight-ish. I'll see you in the comments.

Live show tonight? Well, scrap plans for this evening then.

  • Steven Roy19/12/2009 at 00:13

A live show on a Saturday? I will miss the start of it but should be in before the end.

Trying to do two shows on one night would have been difficult so this is a better idea and lets you enjoy tomorrow night without the first show being a lot of hassle.

    I'm swimming tonight...

...and I got my first 250k badge on Bejeweled Blitz five minutes ago, probably through sheer dumb luck (one moment the game was going nowhere, the next there were gems exploding all over the place, reflected in getting 119,800 points in one 5-second period).

Mm, it's not ideal for anyone, us included, but like you say, it takes the pressure off Sunday. Stoopid December news :)

we're thinking everyone takes a line each and always follows the same person, and we all sing the bits in red together.

You should have someone else look at your personal statement if it is troubling you. I had someone else write the statement on my CV.

Mercedes announce today they will not know their second driver till the new year. Why not just be honest and say, "we are waiting on Michael to get the all clear from his DRs, if its bad news for him, its bad news for us, because we will be stuck with bloody Heidfeld."

In other news, Sauber also wont be revealing their second driver till after Mercedes. They say "Sauber is second choice for Nick. But as their is no other driver around that can fluke a podium like Nick can, we will wait to see what Schumachers' DRs say too! Oh and there is no way in hell the staff at Hinwill want to see Kubica come back."

  • KerbRider19/12/2009 at 00:52

This may seem its in the wrong thread, but i think this is what SHOULD be said.

He's spent the last year complaining so I can't think of a staff member, fan, or even Robert Kubica who would want him to go to Sauber.

    I still want Kl...Petrov.

Nope. His best years have passed.

  • KerbRider19/12/2009 at 00:53

Yeah Petrov seems like he has a bit of promise, but i cant see Peter wanting 2 complete newbies. Seeing as the car should be better than midfield in the first few rounds. He would want nick to assist developement.

  • KerbRider19/12/2009 at 00:54

I am a bif Fissi fan, its his fault i have this Jordan Buzzin' Horent tattooed on my leg. but he shouldnt be driving anymore :-( hurts to say that

If he can't get Nick, there is no other option than a rookie or Fisi. Both not ideal, so Schumacher. Come back please.

  • KerbRider19/12/2009 at 00:57

Never a Schuey fan, but i do want to se him back. But if not Nick, de la rosa has proven developement skill, and i think he's a pretty bloody good steerer

Just been e-mailed one of my all time favourite youtube clips again. I first saw this a couple of years ago and it is incredible.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=vOhf3OvRXKg

This video shows the winner of " Ukraine’s Got Talent", Kseniya

Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table

showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during

World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to

    watch.

The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience

to tears and she won the top prize of about £75,000.

She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands

on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene

    is obliterated.

It is replaced by a woman’s face crying, but then a baby arrives and

the woman smiles again. Once again war returns and Miss Simonova throws the

sand into chaos from which a young woman’s face appears.

She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before

the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier.

This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is

looking out on the monument from within a house.

In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside and a man

standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying goodbye.

The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine , resulted in one

in four of the population being killed with eight to 11 million deaths out

of a population of 42 million.

    Kseniya Simonova says:

"I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or

paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially

when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience

members to tears. And there’s surely no bigger compliment."

I just remembered I have to go and buy cheese.

I was looking forward to not leaving the house today.

Does ebay not deliver cheese? You could order pizza. That has cheese on it.

  • me19/12/2009 at 04:22

Just been e-mailed one of my all time favourite youtube clips again. I first saw this a couple of years ago and it is incredible.

i remember it well, yet youtube's most popular clip of '09 was susan boyle :(

that is true, but sadly I need a whole block. And while I'm there I might pick up some pringles too because I am comment trawling and Mav mentioned them last night. Now I want some.

She is the second person on that show to do the same thing. The first series was won by the unfortunately named Paul Potts who refused to change his name or get his teeth done. He was like her in that he arrived looking like he would be a disaster and sang incredibly.

I like to not leave the house, but I also like to travel. It's very odd. Perhaps its because being away travelling and not leaving the house both mean I'm not going to work that day :D

So you moved to a city where you never want to leave your house except for one week a year when F1 is in town or if you have to eat airline food.

ahh I like to not leave the house on a Saturday because I've had to leave the house the last 5 days in a row. Come Sunday I don't seem to mind going out again.

  • Amy19/12/2009 at 04:44

The more I think about it, I think its not so much the leaving the house as it is the having to get dressed to leave the house. I like to spend at least one day a week in my pjs all day.

the girl I had to buy a secret santa gift for has a live in maid. I didn't realise people still did that in this day and age. And what do you buy for someone who has that much money? (answer: borders voucher)

this girl comes to work and complains about how the maid folds the towels. It's really something I can't relate to. When I was a kid and my mum went back to work she hired a cleaner because she didn't think she would have time to do it, but she used to make us clean up before the cleaner came because she was worried the cleaner would think we were messy.

for some reason the 3g modem isn't working, will sort next week.

Am I the only person stuck home with snow? (I could go out, but that would mean the bus as Andy has the car with the seats in and I can't be faffed to get umpteen layers on to get to the bus stop that I'd have to peel straight off or glow unbecomingly once on said bus.)

On that note - is it true that there are now Chocolate Oranges with popping candy in?

I was looking forward to a game where the ref didn't need as much advice as last week's. He was diabolical. We all came out of the game complaining about him after he sent off an opposition player after giving us a penalty and we won 5-1. He was that bad.

  • Steven Roy19/12/2009 at 12:38

My manager did once say, and reluctantly agreeing with him, that if a referee was any good, he wouldn't be refeering at the levels of non-league or junior football.

My manager did once say, and reluctantly agreeing with him, that if a referee was any good, he wouldn't be refeering at the levels of non-league or junior football.

The ref we were complaining about is apparently a rising star. He looked like he should not be allowed out without his mother. We were chatting to the linesman in passing and even he was saying he couldn't understand some of the decisions and that he thought he was trying to even things up at the start of the second half after he had sent of their central defender after the ball hit his arm. Definitely penalty but there was no way he could avoid the ball.

Only if the sun puts in an appearance. That happens about 6 hours a day here at this time of year

good point. The only place I am likely to see snow in Australia is the ski field and since I have a burning hatred for skiing, it's not going to happen.

Indeed so. Looks like I didn't miss much today.

    Anyhow, good news-bad news:

The bad news is I'm missing tonight's show.

The good news that's because I'm sleeping early to catch Sunday's show. :D Well, that's the plan, anyway. ;)

In case you haven't looked lately, Bruno Mantovani has begun creating his proposed 2010 liveries. He's created TWO for Ferrari (one in traditional red, the other in my preferred AWESOME black), and one for Mercedes-Benz (silver with white trim).

I think if I was running one of the new teams I would nick the black Ferrari livery. It would be interesting to see the dark side in black but it would remind me of Lotus and we don't want them doing that.

It wouldn't simply because it has no gold trim at all! It was that gold trim that made the JPS so memorable for me.

  • Steven Roy19/12/2009 at 14:06

Mantovani has added a load of stuff since the end of the season. A lot of good historic stuff like Gurney in the Eagle and the Gold Leaf Lotus 49

Just about. I was quite ill yesterday evening. And through the night. And then I kind of went properly to sleep at about 7 this morning and when I woke up I felt just kind of better. Still have a slight cold (manflu) but nothing to write home about.

According to quatume theory it can exist in two places at once so it is just in the other one when you look. When you are not looking it is where you left it.

I was always very proud of my reading as a child. My dad always tells the story of how I used to sit on his lap when he read the paper after work and I'd read it out to him but stop to ask what half the words meant. He told me years later it was very, very annoying :D

  • littlepurplegoth19/12/2009 at 15:42

Amy - yep and yep! My dad has never told me it was annoying when I did that, he just waited it out until my children have done it to me and given me knowing glowers when observing it.... :-)

My dad often mentions that he is 60 now and everyone else he knows is a grandfather but he was 37 when I came along so it's not my fault he started late! Or what was late in the 80s but probably very normal now.

I normally get it from my parents when I'm playing up. ie, when I go to visit them and they ask me to help with the dishes and I say "as a guest in this house, I shouldn't have to do any housework" and continue to sit on the couch with my feet up :D

  • littlepurplegoth19/12/2009 at 15:53

To clarify this - my parents have never, ever said this. Mum has laughed unexpectedly a few times ;-).

  • Alison19/12/2009 at 16:06

ATM the 4 month old has no christmas presents.... if he is anything like the others he will have a lovely time with a piece of brown paper that was on someone elses present.

I was 6 months old at my first Christmas and my parents bought me a roll of wrapping paper to play with. There's loads of photos of me having an obviously amazing time with it!

I have a hankering for a tiny house (after realising that for years we lived in a house slightly smaller in square foot terms than the 2nd largest plans on that 'site) but I don't want to get rid of my books!

  • Alianora La Canta19/12/2009 at 16:10

    On that note - is it true that there are now Chocolate Oranges with popping candy in? {Comment #343}

Yes. They come in pink boxes. I've had one and had to eat it slowly because the candy hurt when it popped in my mouth...

If you ask him if he can read he is very insistent that he cannot!

    I was always very proud of my reading as a child. My dad always tells the story of how I used to sit on his lap when he read the paper after work and I'd read it out to him but stop to ask what half the words meant. He told me years later it was very, very annoying :D {Comment #317}

My first memory (at 18 months) is of reading a sign very intently... ...so intently that I walked into a closed door at the end of the room because I hadn't peeled my eyes off the sign in question before I reached it.

amazingly enough that is one of my pictures. I used an app called tilt shift gen forthe iPhone to add the tilt shift and then another one called mill color to change some of the saturation.

So the whole thing was taken and processed on the iPhone :)

I went for another run today. Considerably smaller than my 8 mile trek on Tuesday, just did 4 laps of the area around my house, each about 2-3 minutes. Did 3 laps last night, could have done more had I not gotten a stitch just after I started.

(not all Apple people care about design)

Apparently a couple of months back they showed a load of gaming journalists a secret videoreel of GT5

  • Lukeh19/12/2009 at 22:10

And I wasn't too impressed with Prologue, as much as I'm looking forward to GT5.

Plus this demo only lets you use 1 car at Indianapolis GP circuit and do time trials, wouldn't mind some demo racing...

You don't NEED a wheel and pedals, but if you want to get the most fun and enjoyment, it is recommended. Any wheel which is USB should work as far to my knowledge.

Photographs have proved that there are liquid lakes on Titan which is one of Saturn's moons. This is not exactly news as it has been pretty obvious for a long time but now they have actual photographic proof. The liquid is not water though.

    http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/whycassini/cassini20091217.html

That on its own is incredibly interesting but the next part which I came across earlier is incredible. NASA are considering a mission to land a boat on a big lake so they can explore it.

Wonder if McD's are doing chocolate orange Mcflurries. Chocolate orange and ice cream is such an incredible combination and they tend to do it at this time of year.

    Orange M&Ms $2.00

    Pink and White Marshmallows $2.00

Cookies and Cream Ice Cream $5.00

Jeremy's sugared-up reactions on parade lap? Priceless!

    Neither. For the blog ;)

The problem is, I'm just knackered when I get home at the moment, or I'm doing stuff, so I'm working on engine figures but I can't get the sheets finished. That's the hard part because I can write my posts no problem.

It's the same problem I had when making my Vettel vs. Webber post or the post about Barrichello in Turkey. I have to figure out how to calculate, analyse, display and then graph the data in a meaningful way.

The writing is the easy bit after that ;)

This could be the theme for the season. Have people live commenting from a pub near the track at each race.

awesome! :) i have this promise from my parents that i can go... but given their promises in the past it may not all come together in time... heres hoping though :D

You just need to be good during the run up to it and get good exam results.

Montreal is such a party city, I wish the rest of the Sidepodcasters would meet me there, but there are a few from Canada that have mentioned showing up. We should meet in the resturaunt that I saw Fernando Alonso in.

i'm still on Alison's side... but that would be great!... then again if i am an f1 photographer it may be easier to get into the museum anyway?...

  • lou20/12/2009 at 02:08

see i've no idea if i would get married at williams because i've never really thought about any possible wedding i may have. However i'm willing to bet they wouldn't let you get married in the garage.. it would be in a nice room... or so i'm guessing?...
