It's Saturday, and for about half the UK, it seems like it's snow day as well. I have only seen the occasional flake but we're hearing about all sorts of various weather reports from around the country. I wonder whether it really will be a white Christmas. Anyway, here are some of the F1 related things we're talking about:
- Stuart seems to have the scoop on the single launch idea going kaput, and there has been no official word from FOTA as yet on the matter. It seems likely that this is the case, though, because I can't imagine the smaller teams were at all happy with the idea.
- The Schumacher comeback is looking even more likely, as Luca di Montezemolo wrote about it on the Ferrari website. The poor guy doesn't seem that impressed, using the age-old trick of claiming it is a twin brother involved, rather than facing up to the fact that Schumi just wants to move onwards and upwards.
- Also, the future of the Turkish Grand Prix began to look a bit uncertain as Bernie has apparently asked for double the current amount to host a race. Needless to say the organisers are not impressed and that means the fabulous Turn 8 could be off our calendars from as early as 2011.
With so much news bouncing around, we realised we'd be doing a double show this weekend, and as Sunday is busy enough with the Sidepodparty, we'll be doing an impromptu live show tonight - a Saturday. I know, it's wrong, just like Doctor Who felt wrong when it was on Sunday. Still, we'll do our best to muddle through. Expect a thread about seven or eight-ish. I'll see you in the comments.
Live show tonight? Well, scrap plans for this evening then.
A live show on a Saturday? I will miss the start of it but should be in before the end.
Trying to do two shows on one night would have been difficult so this is a better idea and lets you enjoy tomorrow night without the first show being a lot of hassle.
I'm swimming tonight...
...and I got my first 250k badge on Bejeweled Blitz five minutes ago, probably through sheer dumb luck (one moment the game was going nowhere, the next there were gems exploding all over the place, reflected in getting 119,800 points in one 5-second period).
Mm, it's not ideal for anyone, us included, but like you say, it takes the pressure off Sunday. Stoopid December news :)
You know your in trouble when two news stories come out on a Friday night. You can't plan for that.
we're doing well though. here's a rough draft of jingle bells for sunday:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/2009+Sidepodchristmas+Carol
we're thinking everyone takes a line each and always follows the same person, and we all sing the bits in red together.
Looks good.
okay i'm off to get some shut eye. i'll be back for the live show tomorrow. if you see me before then, shout, scream, shoo me... just get me to go away.. UCAS and this stupid essay need to be complete before the end of the weekend to stop me having a mental breakdown. :)
night all xxx
night lou
Liking that idea, it can't possibly go wrong... ;)
Night lou
Night Lou
You should have someone else look at your personal statement if it is troubling you. I had someone else write the statement on my CV.
It can't possibly be
worsebetter than last time. :)Mercedes announce today they will not know their second driver till the new year. Why not just be honest and say, "we are waiting on Michael to get the all clear from his DRs, if its bad news for him, its bad news for us, because we will be stuck with bloody Heidfeld."
In other news, Sauber also wont be revealing their second driver till after Mercedes. They say "Sauber is second choice for Nick. But as their is no other driver around that can fluke a podium like Nick can, we will wait to see what Schumachers' DRs say too! Oh and there is no way in hell the staff at Hinwill want to see Kubica come back."
This may seem its in the wrong thread, but i think this is what SHOULD be said.
He's spent the last year complaining so I can't think of a staff member, fan, or even Robert Kubica who would want him to go to Sauber.
I still want Kl...Petrov.
:)
good man.
not fissi?
Nope. His best years have passed.
Yeah Petrov seems like he has a bit of promise, but i cant see Peter wanting 2 complete newbies. Seeing as the car should be better than midfield in the first few rounds. He would want nick to assist developement.
I am a bif Fissi fan, its his fault i have this Jordan Buzzin' Horent tattooed on my leg. but he shouldnt be driving anymore :-( hurts to say that
If he can't get Nick, there is no other option than a rookie or Fisi. Both not ideal, so Schumacher. Come back please.
Never a Schuey fan, but i do want to se him back. But if not Nick, de la rosa has proven developement skill, and i think he's a pretty bloody good steerer
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/retired
his wife doesn't sound happy about it. he'll be sleeping on the couch again.
I'd rather have Fisi.
:P
He can sleep in his new Brawn. . . I mean Mercedes. I cant wait to the press conference when he tells us all why!!
I cant think of any other reason other than the fact that he missus the buzz of it all.
I think I will be around on Sunday for the show. I've asked permission and the man from del monte, he says yes.
Despite all this talk of Sauber *bows* I must go to bed. Shall leave you with this post
http://onetimoglock.wordpress.com/2009/12/18/09-season-review-a-year-in-words-part-1/
And the words Night all. lotsa love.
Reading now, night RG.
goodnight rg xx
Schuey's Wife? He he that will not be good for his neck.
aha. we shoulda done that ages ago.
i think she might be the real pain the neck.
via dank on twitter, for christine tomorrow:

Hello all from frigid Florida
hello joe. aside from being frickin' freezing, how are ya?
woops, boought an eeepc without trying.
YEES!
what did ya get?
How did you manage that?
Sorry, here again. Hello
it was on ebay so i threw a bid on for fun and assumed someone would out bid me because it seemed low and I just woke up to a 'please pay for this item' email.
tis the 701SD. I'm gonna be a Linux nerd!
*looks around desperately for kathi*
I am so pleased she will be in Spa 'Kathi how do I do thiiiiis?'
Hi Joe
hehe :)
when does it arrive?
I would have thought by the time you got to Spa you would be an expert
Hey, not really freezing, but a nice change from summer...but I'll hate it in two days
hopefully before I leave on Thursday but because its Christmas mail season I bet it doesn't.
How does Spa get into every conversation? You're all just trying to tempt me into committing to come!
:)
NIIIIIICK
Take me to Spa please. Kthxbye
yeah, c'mon nick. you know you wanna.
Can you not use your round the world tickets to go to Belgium?
He definitely does. I'm just not sure he knows it yet.
Transport is really not the issue....
well, there were suggestions on joe's blog that he should consider a "meet n' greet" in spa. would nick like to meet joe?
he knows, the wiki has him as 'most probable' ;)
I'm not sure how that helps me get to Spa....
well. if nick's going, he can hardly abandon you in the uk?
I wouldn't be so sure!!
It would be great for a bunch of us to be at one of his fan evenings.
Come on. He was only going out with her for ten minutes before he moved to another continent.
sounds like there is lots of interest for one in melbourne but i'd so rather go with a bunch of you lot :D
oh yeah.
although he clearly has a lot of making up to do and a trip to spa might help the situation.
but you could live comment a melbourne meetup for us.
It would be fun to do a live Aside with questions from lots of people.
Alison should say she needs to go for health reasons. People always go to a spa for their health
absolutely. we're up for it, although we may be lacking in the necessary equipment.
Wouldn't like to mince your words there would you Steven :P
It would obviously be difficult to get everyone near enough a mic.
sshhh
I am trying to make him feel guilty when he reads back through this. But don't say anything to him.
my napkin sketch says "rent a boom and radio mic". not that i've considered it or anything.
#confidential
I was thinking of passing a radio mic round the room but you need to find a way to do it that doesn't kill the flow. A boom should work.
Keep forgetting the hashtag
Ah I see. I'm not so sure your cunning plan is likely to work....
depends on audience size of course, and i only know what's in the blog comments, but it's "within the realms of possibility".
finding a boom mic in spa might be tricky though,
there's at least six months yet.
Im in if he does one in Melbourne
I could demand it as a birthday present I suppose....
perfect :)
have you should mention it on the post:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/12/11/an-idea-to-mull-over/
Awesome. Does this mean I can hold you responsible when it all goes wrong? :D
#blamefourstar
I laughed at all the Melbourne suggestions because theres lots of them but almost every single person wants a different day/time due to when they arrive here.
that could be an issue!
sometimes it seems I am the only person going to the Melbourne race who actually lives in Melbourne :D
you must be the only person to move there for the race.
that is very possible.
speaking of Australia, here is some good news for our coverage:
http://www.speedcafe.com.au/2009/12/18/mcconville-dumped-off-tens-f1-coverage/
No I'm sorry. I'm not accepting that!
it can't be my fault, it never is.
That should make you happy
It was agreed by a massive majority that everything is his fault now.
they just need to get rid of Greg "Australia's Mark Webber" Rust now.
"I had a family fun open day on Saturday and we sold 30 tyres in four hours, which is certainly our best Saturday."
this is you f1 commentator??
haha good thing he had the tyre shop to fall back on now that hes lost two jobs!
i just don't see jake doing anything similar. how strange.
McConville is Brundle rather than Jake though. I don't see Brundle flogging tyres either
if jake had a tyre shop I could see Christine getting punctures far more frequently.
"oh look. i ran over that stinger again.... twice."
Just remebered http://gigglesadvent.com/.
Maybe Franck should get a tyre franchise on Rockall
that man was born to be on the internet ;)
He just has to make advent 340 days longer
It is good news Cam Mconville is gone, coz he was no good, but i feel sorry for him now. Hope baird is as good as Crompton was.
@MrC did a post to Mr Saward. he knows. we had a discussion about his Tasmanian ancestry
ahh quality, didn't realise.
he'll miss doing it by the 26th :)
I just remembered I have to go and buy cheese.
I was looking forward to not leaving the house today.
Just been e-mailed one of my all time favourite youtube clips again. I first saw this a couple of years ago and it is incredible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=vOhf3OvRXKg
This video shows the winner of " Ukraine’s Got Talent", Kseniya
Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table
showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during
World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to
watch.
The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience
to tears and she won the top prize of about £75,000.
She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands
on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene
is obliterated.
It is replaced by a woman’s face crying, but then a baby arrives and
the woman smiles again. Once again war returns and Miss Simonova throws the
sand into chaos from which a young woman’s face appears.
She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before
the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier.
This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is
looking out on the monument from within a house.
In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside and a man
standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying goodbye.
The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine , resulted in one
in four of the population being killed with eight to 11 million deaths out
of a population of 42 million.
Kseniya Simonova says:
"I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or
paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially
when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience
members to tears. And there’s surely no bigger compliment."
That comment was longer than I thought.
Does ebay not deliver cheese? You could order pizza. That has cheese on it.
i remember it well, yet youtube's most popular clip of '09 was susan boyle :(
that is true, but sadly I need a whole block. And while I'm there I might pick up some pringles too because I am comment trawling and Mav mentioned them last night. Now I want some.
I didn't know that. I blame Leo. He kept plugging her.
i has chocolate digestives...
I don't get why her CD is selling so well. Would people care if she sounded the same but was "attractive"?
chocolate biscuits at 4.23am? no wonder you are awake! ;)
i shall:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8415766.stm
I bet you never leave the house. Again.
am reinstalling the eeepc. i broke it on the way to alex's and without it we can't do a skype call on sunday. nearly done though.
my ultimate dream.
She is the second person on that show to do the same thing. The first series was won by the unfortunately named Paul Potts who refused to change his name or get his teeth done. He was like her in that he arrived looking like he would be a disaster and sang incredibly.
What's wrong with that. Anytime is chocolate time.
You do know that Spa is not next to the kitchen?
:D:D
hmm. never leave the house unless I'm going overseas?
oh yes, hence why I have two advent calendars.
I still think a European tour is an odd choice for someone whose ultimate dream is never to leave the house.
I like to not leave the house, but I also like to travel. It's very odd. Perhaps its because being away travelling and not leaving the house both mean I'm not going to work that day :D
ahh, metallica.
was trying to work out why the final song seems familiar.
So you moved to a city where you never want to leave your house except for one week a year when F1 is in town or if you have to eat airline food.
ahh I like to not leave the house on a Saturday because I've had to leave the house the last 5 days in a row. Come Sunday I don't seem to mind going out again.
The more I think about it, I think its not so much the leaving the house as it is the having to get dressed to leave the house. I like to spend at least one day a week in my pjs all day.
almost certainly going to be an issues in the ardennes.
why only one? Try it on Monday;)
hey scott.
my work quite regularly has pj days but I'm not actually one of the ones who joins in! As much as I love them, I won't wear them in public. Thats why I bought those lovely comfy trackpants. It's just too hot to wear them in summer.
Really you need servants
Just hear the song "Santa baby" by everclear. Melody sounded oddly familiar ;)
Belgians dress funny. No-one wil notice
hey me ;) just got back from work Xmas party. Second in two nights. Tame events really but interesting nonetheless.
the girl I had to buy a secret santa gift for has a live in maid. I didn't realise people still did that in this day and age. And what do you buy for someone who has that much money? (answer: borders voucher)
if only I had McLaren PJs.
you have pj days?! Trackies are just pjs with acceptable labels. You should join in.
are they still going? haven't heard a new song from them since everythig to everyone.
they really try to push the "we are a fun office!" thing "its so much fun we let you wear pjs to work and thus you are having so much fun you wont notice we pay you peanuts!"
What do you get for the girl who has everything? Usually penicilin
nag I think it was a while back. I'm listening to a podcast called coverville (.com) and this is the Christmas show. Great show with some interesting interpretations. Fairytale of new York is on now - love that song. Very christmassy;)
what happens if you need to go out for lunch?
ha! very giggles-esque
:)
probably why they built a cafe on the ground floor instead of a reception desk :D
It's a very old joke just like his.
Since I don't have chocloate digestives or Pringles I am going to bed. Will see you lot later.
Good night all.
goodnight chap.
nighty night.
nightey night
snap
@ Stevenen Roy
Thankyou for that link. That was one of the most amazingly beautiful things i have ever seen. Breathtaking!
that scares me, I think its the first time I've ever used that on this site and someone else had the EXACT SAME THOUGHT. ooooh.
i'm a little scared too but we'll cope right?
we'll get through it, i'm sure.
it's not like I'm inside your head John malkovitch style...
...You REALLY need to visit this country. ;)
testing from the eeepc.
oh I get that its the norm in some places, my flatmate has a maid back home in Bangladesh. But in Australia it really doesn't seem normal.
it worked
w00t!
Ahhh. I get ya. :D
:)
the north shore in Sydney probably has a few but they're probably more nannies than maids. But a world I know nothing about.
this girl comes to work and complains about how the maid folds the towels. It's really something I can't relate to. When I was a kid and my mum went back to work she hired a cleaner because she didn't think she would have time to do it, but she used to make us clean up before the cleaner came because she was worried the cleaner would think we were messy.
If only. who wouldnt love a live in maid. and lear jet, and a season pass to the paddock club!!
Hmmm. Neither can I, to be honest. Maids are helpers, but it's not like these are things you can't do yourself if you need to...
i was going to leave christine a post-it note, but my handwriting is illegible so doohickey will suffice.
fao christine:
have reinstalled the eeepc, and installed skype. have had a chat with the test call lady and she seems all right about things. we can now take calls on sunday.
for some reason the 3g modem isn't working, will sort next week.
i haven't done anything else on my list as fixing this took all night. i'm quite exhausted, please potter around quietly in the morning.
love you,
mr. c.
xxx
this is the same girl who gets free mclaren hospitality tickets and doesn't use them. I am speechless at a lot of what she comes out with!
Awww. Isn't that such a sweet love letter from mr. c? :D :D :P
apart from where he mentions his chat with that homewrecking test call lady. :D
...! Oh, you've GOT to be kidding me. :O
so many ppl do that. Youre not alone there
:D
...i was actually being sarcastic. :P :D
oh :D
to everyone else. i bid you a good night. love to all x
if you get things for free you're less likely to care.
Bed time for me. Need to go check out a harvard museum or two in the morrow;). Nighty night all ;)
you say good night like lou now? :P
good night, mr. c. :)
bye scott + mr c :D
Good night Mr Fenway. :D
Free hospitality tickets and doesnt use them. she should be shot at dawn. sacreligious!
I'm not THAT mean. But she should be made to give them away to a worthy cause... like, say, Amy! :D
I would not say no!
I know Mr Roy is sleeping but I'd like to say Ha! I went and got cheese!
Nor would I. Tell her i'd pay for em.
morning everyone. Yay for two live shows this weekend, although I'll probably miss tonights. Boo.
Morning.
Same here, sorry guys!
HEy Rubbergoat. when will you have your season review up?
Im hanging out for it
Still working on it.
Time for work. See you all tonight!
Morning all.
morning. pottering quietly?
helloooo. message from mr c down there.... /
Morning....
Am I the only person stuck home with snow? (I could go out, but that would mean the bus as Andy has the car with the seats in and I can't be faffed to get umpteen layers on to get to the bus stop that I'd have to peel straight off or glow unbecomingly once on said bus.)
On that note - is it true that there are now Chocolate Oranges with popping candy in?
Doing my best. :)
Which reminds me - Brawn lorries were seen driving through MK yesterday.... (I suspect heading for the M1, but I'm still wondering where they were going)
Goood morning world. Its cold outside.
to the paint shop?
Ooo... we have one of those on an industrial estate in the right direction. I should have made Andy follow them rofl...
i'd have done it for them....got a big pot of grey paint in the garage!!
Afternoon, yes there are & they are fantastic although you need to eat them on your own as it is compulsory to open your mouth whilst the candy is popping ;)
Morning all.
No football for me today owing to the ground being a touch solid.
I had no idea such a thing existed. I need now.
Of course you did. ;)
I've now been told elsewhere that Morrisons have them on buy two get two free....
I'm worried that our game is still on tomorrow, even though that pitch is slightly worse than say, Cardiff City's.
I got pringles too!
You would think it was Xmas or something
I was looking forward to a game where the ref didn't need as much advice as last week's. He was diabolical. We all came out of the game complaining about him after he sent off an opposition player after giving us a penalty and we won 5-1. He was that bad.
If you are going to risk going outside then you have to get some treats
My manager did once say, and reluctantly agreeing with him, that if a referee was any good, he wouldn't be refeering at the levels of non-league or junior football.
tomorrow I plan on getting my sunglasses adjusted but it's quite likely that I won't because I've been saying that for months.
The ref we were complaining about is apparently a rising star. He looked like he should not be allowed out without his mother. We were chatting to the linesman in passing and even he was saying he couldn't understand some of the decisions and that he thought he was trying to even things up at the start of the second half after he had sent of their central defender after the ball hit his arm. Definitely penalty but there was no way he could avoid the ball.
There is no need to mention sunglasses when so many of us are surounded by snow
snow glare is a serious problem!
Only if the sun puts in an appearance. That happens about 6 hours a day here at this time of year
good point. The only place I am likely to see snow in Australia is the ski field and since I have a burning hatred for skiing, it's not going to happen.
We have sun. Proper yellow looks like it would hurt sun.
Just not anything currently above zero celcius temperature-wise lol
Good afternoon SidepodPeeps
*Looks around*
Seems awfully quiet here
Indeed so. Looks like I didn't miss much today.
Anyhow, good news-bad news:
The bad news is I'm missing tonight's show.
The good news that's because I'm sleeping early to catch Sunday's show. :D Well, that's the plan, anyway. ;)
Tonight's show?
Ooh, I see. Yay!
[Just read the Daily Post]
I shall miss both. Cursed time differences.
I'd normally miss them too, but I'm already on vacation. :D
if the party was tonight i'd get up for it but since its tomorrow night i'll be at work :D
http://mantovani.zip.net/
In case you haven't looked lately, Bruno Mantovani has begun creating his proposed 2010 liveries. He's created TWO for Ferrari (one in traditional red, the other in my preferred AWESOME black), and one for Mercedes-Benz (silver with white trim).
good point. boo...
Shall look at that later, thanks Journeyer
I think if I was running one of the new teams I would nick the black Ferrari livery. It would be interesting to see the dark side in black but it would remind me of Lotus and we don't want them doing that.
It wouldn't simply because it has no gold trim at all! It was that gold trim that made the JPS so memorable for me.
Mantovani has added a load of stuff since the end of the season. A lot of good historic stuff like Gurney in the Eagle and the Gold Leaf Lotus 49
Mmm. Indeed so. I like the Gurney one. :)
It would still remind me of it. All black cars do.
Even that awful Arrows car in 1998?
Hmmm - so they are taking lessons from Brawn on this one then? They had *serious* tailoring going on...
Hello everyone :)
Sorry I've been away... I didn't want to sit here and complain about being ill so I watched an entire series of Friends instead :)
and the Minardis and the Wolf
Oooh, jealous :)
Afternoon Alex. Feeling better?
Indeed. I sat there curled up on the sofa with Giles :)
Oh. That is terrible. But black F1 cars are cool, especially when everyone seemed to be running white F1 liveries the last few years.
Just about. I was quite ill yesterday evening. And through the night. And then I kind of went properly to sleep at about 7 this morning and when I woke up I felt just kind of better. Still have a slight cold (manflu) but nothing to write home about.
They are cool but it doesn't matter what anyone does with them they are never going to look as good as JPS
Good to hear you're on the mend
Are you working between Xmas and New Year, Alex?
On Twitter:
This is from Kristie Kenney, who is... the US Ambassador here.
Just hilarious. :D
Indeed so.
no taking some time off. But am off up to Katherine's folks. We are just about to head off to your neck of the woods. Fancy a quick half in the dog and (I can never remember the proper nickname?)
No can do, I'm afraid
It's The Crown & Greyhound, btw but everyone I know calls it The Dog
ah well next time I'm sure.
that's it.
Certainly
#sidepodspace
Tomorrow at 3:52pm UK time NASA TV are covering the launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome of 3 astronauts heading to the ISS on board the Russian Soyuz.
It's a long time since I watched a Soyuz launch and I am not sure we have watched one here.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/index.html
morning all.
Hello sleepy ;)
Any later and you'd have missed the show... ;)
hey mr c.
mighta been a bit tired.
Good afternoon Mr C
Been there
Late night coding?
eeepc fixes. it's working though, yay.
it's only afternoon if you believe that it is.
ah yes. must be time to plug stuff in.
This is lik last night's chocolate discussion
Einstein was right, time is relative
i notice that the packet of digestives evaporated while i slept.
time is elastic.
Quantum theory covers that. It's all perfectly explainable. The biscuits are really Schroedinger's cat.
I am heading off out into the snow. I will miss the start of the live show but I should catch the end.
Have a good show.
See ya later Steven
i'm prepared to believe the biscuits were never in the packet. however, the packet vanished too.
thanking ya.
See ya mate.
According to quatume theory it can exist in two places at once so it is just in the other one when you look. When you are not looking it is where you left it.
I am here to blame you for that.
>According to quatume theory it can exist in two places at once so it is just in the other one when you look. When you are not looking it is where you left it.
Ah well surely in quantum terms that means that neither existed?
Unless they were packed in cardboard and you have a lit fire?
I believe they disappeared at 4.23am, give or take a few minutes.
Argh I *hate* when brackets try to disprove quantum physics!!
not sure if this has already been covered, but stuart tweeted the latest edition of gp2 insider is now up:
http://cde.cerosmedia.com/1D4b2bac0547e50012.cde
(featuring pics of glock and delicious)
Ooooh.
#blamefourstar!
:)
noooo. there was half a packet left when i went to bed. and now it has miraculously disappeared.
normally I would, but i have a direct quote of "i has chocolate digestives" which makes it difficult to blame him this time.
hmmm. #blamechristine?
i wouldn't dare.
I miss Twitter. Boo.
a wise move.
it's c*** but we love it?
Have you given up on it?
I keep forgetting to open it. I don't know if people are tweeting too much or I'm following too many people but I preferred it when it was a bit quieter and I could actually catch up with the tweets that come in when I'm asleep.
I've had to scale back on some of those I was following for the same reason
If it helps any I do not do Witter....
Mmm. http://twitter.com/mrschristine/status/6464106716
Very very very funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr9_5uZn6ds&feature=related
I (heart) Elmo
Ah yes, I remember seeing that now
:(
for christine:
http://sidepodcast.com/playground/microblogging.php
I think identica need to come up with a better word than 'dented'
That seems to be more or less me....
#blamefootball
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"Gimme Four!"
Everything ok LPG?
"Oh man, last night I got so dented!"
Springs to mind
Heh. I just think of 'that man dented my car with his shopping trolley'
I now have a small boy saying 'let me watch elmo, let me mememememememem'
saying no didn't work. typing it strangely did.
hmmmm
ahaha.
ooops
#blameelmo
Given that I didn't mention elmo, it also means that he read it off the screen.
whibble.
If you ask him if he can read he is very insistent that he cannot!
oooh!
I was always very proud of my reading as a child. My dad always tells the story of how I used to sit on his lap when he read the paper after work and I'd read it out to him but stop to ask what half the words meant. He told me years later it was very, very annoying :D
Amy - yep and yep! My dad has never told me it was annoying when I did that, he just waited it out until my children have done it to me and given me knowing glowers when observing it.... :-)
ahh yes the 'wait til your kids do it to you!' As someone with no kids, I still get that threat a lot :D
I think that my parents see it (in a very tongue in cheek way) as the upside to having been made grandparents before they were 60! rofl.
My dad often mentions that he is 60 now and everyone else he knows is a grandfather but he was 37 when I came along so it's not my fault he started late! Or what was late in the 80s but probably very normal now.
People saying that to me makes me want to punch them!
Would you do my share too?
I normally get it from my parents when I'm playing up. ie, when I go to visit them and they ask me to help with the dishes and I say "as a guest in this house, I shouldn't have to do any housework" and continue to sit on the couch with my feet up :D
To clarify this - my parents have never, ever said this. Mum has laughed unexpectedly a few times ;-).
Its the rest of the world who say it that narks me... especially if its on the one time in months that I'm out without a child in tow and stop someone elses runaway toddler (LPG glowers and remembers that people would rather you let their children run into the road....)
In other news, Sauber also wont be revealing their second driver till after Mercedes. They say "Sauber is second choice for Nick. But as their is no other driver around that can fluke a podium like Nick can, we will wait to see what Schumachers' DRs say too! Oh and there is no way in hell the staff at Hinwill want to see Kubica come back." {Comment #13}
Fisi can fluke a podium like Nick can...
*ducks*
I normally get it from colleagues... I can't believe how much people spend on Christmas presents for 3 month old babies. It's insanity!! This is the response I get....
Argh.
ATM the 4 month old has no christmas presents.... if he is anything like the others he will have a lovely time with a piece of brown paper that was on someone elses present.
(hearts)
am sure amy's seen this already, but we really need to keep it for posterity:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/a-day-at-the-office-png
he needs a haircut.
Heikki looking particularly Beavis-like in that one
i was thinking thunderbirds.
Christmas when I was 3 I got a clown and my brother got a truck and oh how I cried because I wanted a truck too and not a stupid clown. Then they took photos of us with our presents, and I don't think I've scowled so much for a photo in my life. It's one of my earliest memories :D
I like to not leave the house, but I also like to travel. It's very odd. Perhaps its because being away travelling and not leaving the house both mean I'm not going to work that day :D {Comment #130}
Perhaps you were born to backpack and carry your house with you?
Did you ever think you'd look at a picture and Trulli would be the more attractive one!?
I was 6 months old at my first Christmas and my parents bought me a roll of wrapping paper to play with. There's loads of photos of me having an obviously amazing time with it!
ooh that sounds like my worst nightmare.
:)
How about towing your house then?
http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/
I have a hankering for a tiny house (after realising that for years we lived in a house slightly smaller in square foot terms than the 2nd largest plans on that 'site) but I don't want to get rid of my books!
On that note - is it true that there are now Chocolate Oranges with popping candy in? {Comment #343}
Yes. They come in pink boxes. I've had one and had to eat it slowly because the candy hurt when it popped in my mouth...
the tiny house is cute but I'd prefer it not on wheels!
On wheels is just an option though.
Or to grow it properly??
I can't work out if longer would make the comb-over effect better or worse. I'd better go to bed and sleep on it. Night all!
G'night Amy
night amy
If you ask him if he can read he is very insistent that he cannot!
I was always very proud of my reading as a child. My dad always tells the story of how I used to sit on his lap when he read the paper after work and I'd read it out to him but stop to ask what half the words meant. He told me years later it was very, very annoying :D {Comment #317}
My first memory (at 18 months) is of reading a sign very intently... ...so intently that I walked into a closed door at the end of the room because I hadn't peeled my eyes off the sign in question before I reached it.
I've been out on my winter walk in th snow. I saw this nice view:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-367
And also discovered what two of the F1 writers have diversified into since print is dead (honestly these two are on the same street)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-2-311
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-3-368
Oh wow! Get that printed and on the wall!!
Is that a tilt shift effect?
All these years and I never made the JA connection
indeed!
:P
how'd you (katherine) do that?
Greetings from Frozen Tundra (again, its that time of year...)
howdy sir. how are ya?
Cold. And suspecting that everyone's talking about the wrong Schumacher brother coming back to F1.... Then again, the only person worse than Schuie is Ralfie, and would sort of explain LDM not being too impressed about the idea....
amazingly enough that is one of my pictures. I used an app called tilt shift gen forthe iPhone to add the tilt shift and then another one called mill color to change some of the saturation.
So the whole thing was taken and processed on the iPhone :)
i'd love to know what he's planning to do with his fxx, given he can only drive it on track days when ferrari say so.
fantastic!
BTW Why is Kathi breaking "Sidepodcast Tradition" by not having a winner's speech yet? And why are you guys allowing her to do that?
No fair.... Booo! Hisssss! Boooo!
Evening
I have snow photos too!
We went to my Sister-in-law's house for 'Gløgg og Æbleskiver' - which is mulled wine and Xmas Donuts in jam. Yum! We also spent an hour in the snow with my nieces and it was so much fun - very cold right now though!
last seen getting on a plane. not heard of since.
as for why? f1 has refused to take a break until today and we haven't had time.
are they real words?
No I made them up. Kinda like Elvish :P
likes this one:

Funnily enough, I was just going to say that!
They were taken with my phone BTW.
There sits a man who knows his Tolkein then...

No I made them up. Kinda like Elvish :P
Could pass for either Monty Python's or the Swedish Chef's version of Swedish....
There's an app for that
After years of thinking to the contrary, it turns out that Bacon Super Noodles are quite tasty after all! I thought it was just Chicken flavour that was ok
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/19/live-saturday-night-live/
I like super noodles.
I think I may need to try the other flavours now
My favourite is the Beef ;)
I remember that flavour, was never a big fan
I'm gonna grab one of each next time I go shopping
Am not too keen on the sweet and sour flavour.
I think I may have tried the Curry flavour, way back
I do! I just dont know how to get there :P
you need to buy a satnav.
Err, flying to Brussells would probably be a good start
From where is the problem though.
At the moment i have no idea, and I have to visit in the uk and aus in the next few months
Don't Emirates or Sabena fly there?
well you know where alison is. so go from there.
Hehe, i saw he was doing one at AD too :P
The Hotels on Yas are all properly open now. They have some good all you can eat& drink deals on so i might visit at somepoint
Hehe, I will try.
I am also loosing money at the moment which isnt all that good.
On the plus side i had my first html/php lesson the other day :)
Fix the hole in your pocket ;)
hahaha :D
How about coming into the UK and then Eurostar to Brussels. Or into Paris and then train to Brussels? Both emirates hubs....
Alison may like the former
Ooo - just made vegan 'baileys'....
40ml whisky and 150ml hazlenut and almond rice mylk.... not far off at all....

fine. i'll get up and move over here. But, I may have to have a quick rant at Sony
I went for another run today. Considerably smaller than my 8 mile trek on Tuesday, just did 4 laps of the area around my house, each about 2-3 minutes. Did 3 laps last night, could have done more had I not gotten a stitch just after I started.
PS3 related?
yes! just got one with play tv
Nice, what seems to be troubling you, sir?
The PS3 is rrrrrrrrrrrubbish. if it weren't for GT5 mine would be sold many a month ago.
Ooh, have you tried the GT5 demo? If so, wossit like?
Why don't sony put a usb port or two on the back? the ps3 slim is good looking, but i have to plug the play tv in the front and it ruins the look!
(not all Apple people care about design)
Exactly the same as prologue. Nothing new.
Apparently a couple of months back they showed a load of gaming journalists a secret videoreel of GT5
And I wasn't too impressed with Prologue, as much as I'm looking forward to GT5.
Plus this demo only lets you use 1 car at Indianapolis GP circuit and do time trials, wouldn't mind some demo racing...
When's GT5 out?
[Realises this may be a silly question]
...and apparently the damage model was mind-blowing.
I do think there's plenty we don't know about with GT5. They need to hurry up and tell us!! :P
not yet. i bought mine as a PVR and Blu-Ray player, but I seem to have chosen to get a Colin McRae game thrown in instead of assassins creed.
Ooh, given the past games - 6 years?
Can't say I've heard much positive feedback about the damage
Ah, good choice with DiRT 2. Very fun game to play with a wheel. :D
In all seriousness, it looks like sometime next year. Though knowing PD, that'll get pushed back 'n all, like the release date with GTs of late have been time and time again.
what have i gotten myself into? i already bought another controller that I'm sure I wont need, and now i need a wheel and pedals? My PS2 stuff wont work will it? Maybe the USB one I had for my computer?
I reckon we'll see it by September in the UK. Hopefully!
You don't NEED a wheel and pedals, but if you want to get the most fun and enjoyment, it is recommended. Any wheel which is USB should work as far to my knowledge.
Blade Runner: The Final Cut is on BBC2
Need/Want - there's a difference? :p
oooh! ta.
If LPG is still around you should know chocolate oranges are buy one get two free at Morissons.
I knew about that... I just had no way of getting there...
phooey... he's on here now isnt' he. darn it! Andy - ignore this....
#confidential
Wish I knew this 6 hours ago :)
It was just earlier today you said buy two get two free.
Have watched some Dangermouse so now off to bed, comment with you tomorrow...
Night Janna
They now come with optional popping candy
Night Janna
Byeee
What's that?
Fizzy bits?
Ah yes - true. I was going on information received from elsewhere, lol.
Popping candy chocolate oranges have been a bit of a hot topic in forumsville today
rofl
It pops on your tongue
Oooh split Browser is such a useful add-on for firefox! Now I can watch match of the day and doohickey all in 1 window, yay!
Ah Moondust, I remember ye well
By incredible co-incidence I went to see my mother and she had picked up three in Morrisons because of the deal. I couldn't believe it when she gave me one and told me about the deal just after we had been talking about it.
No popping candy though so I need to pop in and buy more. Not sure how I can cope with all that goodness.
Wonder if McD's are doing chocolate orange Mcflurries. Chocolate orange and ice cream is such an incredible combination and they tend to do it at this time of year.
You can do that? I would just use two windows.
*wants chocolate orange bar now*
Seems to be after eight around here.
The comments have become a chololate shopping list :)
Maybe I should eat something
#sidepodspace awesomeness
Photographs have proved that there are liquid lakes on Titan which is one of Saturn's moons. This is not exactly news as it has been pretty obvious for a long time but now they have actual photographic proof. The liquid is not water though.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/whycassini/cassini20091217.html
That on its own is incredibly interesting but the next part which I came across earlier is incredible. NASA are considering a mission to land a boat on a big lake so they can explore it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8409052.stm
Sailing round Titan would be fun.
I tried that before but it is nowhere near as good as chocolate orange
Reminds me that I still have orange and geranium dark chocolate in the cupboard...
This might be my favourite tweet ever: http://twitter.com/F1Badger/status/6264778429

I see no point in him/her/them having a dig like that but I guess badger's are sett in their ways
what do you mean by "giving up halfway through" BTW? I must admit I am a sporadic reader because I think the articles are badly written...

giggle's managed to post advent updates, even with man-flu.
I am even making spreadsheets with man-flu. Trouble is, it's a bit like being Santa because I'm making a list and having to check it twice...
for work or for pleasure?
Neither. For the blog ;)
are we supposed to twitter war them now?
haha, you loves it.
Not at all. I don't even use Twitter anymore!
^^corrected
Eveeeeeerning!
Helllllo Jon!
The problem is, I'm just knackered when I get home at the moment, or I'm doing stuff, so I'm working on engine figures but I can't get the sheets finished. That's the hard part because I can write my posts no problem.
It's the same problem I had when making my Vettel vs. Webber post or the post about Barrichello in Turkey. I have to figure out how to calculate, analyse, display and then graph the data in a meaningful way.
The writing is the easy bit after that ;)
hiiiya!
how are you? how is everyone?
Yes, that is more likely.
I do - but the idea of saying I do spreadsheets for pleasure makes most people run and hide.
Nobody I work with can believe what I do - they are quite impressed which is funny really!
I am well thanks, snowed in (well, just too cold to go outside)
Like me. Although at the moment it's more grab onto the fence, move at a moderate pace and hide. :P
Is good. Loving the snow!
we have now reached "try and make snowballs and they just fall apart" levels of snow
you can have some of our snow... we have loads of it!!
how fresh is it?
I'm more than happy with our 'completely no snow at all' thank you :)
it snowed a little last night... so some of it a day old?..
naaah. snow is amazing. i love walking in it.
live show replay now up:
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/19/live-saturday-night-live/
i would come and nick some...but it would have melted by the time i got back!
I have had my snow quote fulfilled for the winter with the random patch in Hyde park :)
Now it can stay away!
i went outside briefly today to get some photos in my slippers... needless to say i wasn't really thinking, and couldn't feel my feel or hands when i came back in 1/2 hour later...
Time for sleep. Another long day ahead, but I'll just keep looking forward to the sidpeoddies :) night.
See ya lukeh :D
night lukeh.
Night Luuuuuuukeh
night Lukeh, i recommend watching merlin to pass the time, as usual it's awesome this week! :)
Evening everyone... Had a fun live show? Hope so :)
Hi Alex!
I saw most of it, but im just watching the reply now to catch the start.
Be warned, it's a bit scary - MONSTERS!
Tonight's does contain clear evidence of man-flu - I couldn't do anything about it!
Are you feeling better?
I guess not. Codral?
Heh... I'll have to show Katherine :)
I'm feeling a bit better. But coughing quite a bit.
What is Codral?
live show was awesome today, Ben made an appearance.. and Christine had a rant about ferrari :D
Cold and Flu tablets that contain psuedoephidrene. They work well for me but not for people with high blood pressure
I will watch the whole thing in the morning... But I'll show Katherine the beginning with Ben :)
Ah I don't know what that would be here... I'm currently drinking a Lemsip!
we have those here. codral are stronger!
i hope you're all better by xmas morning (or sooner)
Me too... I've got to be back at work on Monday really so I hope I'm better before that or I'll be the co-worker who
stole Christmasmade everyone sick just in time for ChristmasA live show on Saturday? Who heard of such a thing?
ooh. Aren't you most contagious before you show symptoms with a lot of illnesses? Maybe everyone else is already sick?
That's probably true!
oooh look caught on candid camera Giles Monster waving at Ben Monster...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-371
Where did these monsters come from?!
awwww!!
Katherine made them
How cool. :D
Oooh for once I'm up to mention the http://gigglesadvent.com/ being up. It's an end of row-er so brace yourselves!
Night everyone :)
niiiiiiight
night
Crafty pieces of work ;)
Night mate
night Giggles!!
*rushes over to http://gigglesadvent.com/ to check out the new video!*
very randomly but ...it's great that the Brazilian drivers have twitter, i am learning more and more Portuguese as time passes :)
Incredible. Unbelievable. Stunning.
I've got another 2 hours at work. A little apprehensive about how i'm going to get home if the snow doesn't stop...
I'm hoping di Grassi gets Timo on twitter.
No idea why.
Can't you just close up and snd everyone home if the weather is so bad?
We need to get giggles some kind of award for just generally being awesome :) if only there was an up and coming award show.... hmm.... ;)
Whay would you call the award?
What not Whay
Best use of an on-apple camera?
Best video based advent calendar award?
Best non-mr/mrs c host of the parade lap
funniest man in f1?...
best party host?
best... michael mcintyre look alike?
:)
I thought they were just the guests?

No problem. You can't be expected to prioritise commenting at work. Glad you are leaving to go home.

Night Jon
See ya mate.
night Jon! :)
Hello all
Hi Joe
There was a live show earlier tonight and the replay is up if you get bored
No, I'm watching my college in their bowl game (real football) and...TD UCF!!!
How you been Steven? The holiday season treating you well?
Which college? I have never really watched college football but I love the NFL
I'm good. So far so good.
I usually listen to the live shows on my trips to the casino, so I'll plan another trip for some blackjack
Hi
And bye from me. lotsa love.
I went to UCF, University of Central Florida. We are in the St. Pete Bowl, where the Rays' play.
There was a regular show tonight and the party/awards show will be tomorrow night so you should have enough to listen to on your trip.
Night RG
Sleep tight, brother
Good luck for that
It's only a 45 min. drive so I can get through some good stuff. Today I listened to a lecture on trauma, which I can log as training in my Fire Dept. Damn, Rutgers scored a TD on us
Better than sitting in a class room
Yeah, it's a good drive. I confuse you and RG, are you in Europe or on a Pacific Island?
You are more confused than ou think. I am in Scotland, he is in the north east of England and Journeyer is in the Phillipines
Sorry, but you guys are the cornerstones of Sidepodcast, so I walk in your shadow. Let me ask, is the get together for Spa still on?
Yes. Some people have even booked already. Joe is thinking of doing fan meet ups at some races so we may end up with a live Aside from a pub near the track.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Spa+Grand+Prix+2010
are you coming steven?
If that is the case, I will be give updates from the Irish Embasy (a pub) in Montreal
I hope so. I hust can't commit yet.
just not hust
awesome! :) i have this promise from my parents that i can go... but given their promises in the past it may not all come together in time... heres hoping though :D
This could be the theme for the season. Have people live commenting from a pub near the track at each race.
You just need to be good during the run up to it and get good exam results.
Montreal is such a party city, I wish the rest of the Sidepodcasters would meet me there, but there are a few from Canada that have mentioned showing up. We should meet in the resturaunt that I saw Fernando Alonso in.
:( Me too :(
On the plus side, I've made it home with no incidents on the road.
Put your feet up and relax
Home is the place to be
ehehehehe! i'll try my best to pass :P
I am taking this as a firm commitment. Just to warn you....
yay! time to relax! :)
Definitely a firm committment. You could read more into the - I do!

*thinks very carefully*....

....
noooooo! i'm on your side.... :)
You don't want the chance to take photos of thirty years worth of Williams car including those that Jenson drove?
I'm not getting married!! If I were it certainly wouldn't be in a manky garage....
i'm still on Alison's side... but that would be great!... then again if i am an f1 photographer it may be easier to get into the museum anyway?...
see i've no idea if i would get married at williams because i've never really thought about any possible wedding i may have. However i'm willing to bet they wouldn't let you get married in the garage.. it would be in a nice room... or so i'm guessing?...
