It is Friday, and we are still waiting for the F1 news to die down this week. There have been breakout threads flying all over the place, and I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to the weekend for a rest! Yesterday was all about another driver announcement but here are some of the other things we're talking about:
- Over on Metro F1, there's a couple of reviews for some games, just in time if you're planning to buy an F1 fan something like this for Christmas. We had our own F1 2009 review, of course, but it's always interesting to see other people's takes on it, plus a couple of other games for good measure.
- I missed this when it was initially posted, but I see that RG has been doing some detective work, and discovered a potential new design for Timo Glock's helmet. It's probably a bit early to think about helmet designs, the season is still several months away, but it's good to see some colours.
- Stuart has some thoughts on Flavio Briatore and his attempts to overturn his lifetime ban from motorsport. There are already sme disagreements happening in Stuart's comments over this, but it's an interesting topic, and will be fascinating to find out how Flav gets on.
That'll do it for now, let us know what you have planned for the weekend, and as ever, I'll see you in the comments.
phew, survived thursday.
Always a relief
So does this mean that I'm not the only person not to like Thursdays then???
(most people seem to dislike wednesdays or mondays, but I don't mind them. Thursdays, um, bleurgh!)
Yayay!
I've taken a liking to songs from the Rocky films recently, and this is my favourite at the moment.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn-pVMc6UEk
It is a long running theme here that everyone hates Thursdays. That is why Christine has Baby Panda Thursday on her blog
OK.
So how am I.....
I jut thought that Christine liked Pandas....
LPG creeps away to find Gin and Chocolate....
she likes chocolate too :)
#sameperson
That is an awesome combination
I think flav deserved the penalty. It was the straw that broke the Camels back. If you read the story on EPSN F1 http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/5288.html
max explains all of Flavs past indiscretions that he got away with because he was so good at laying blame elswhere, or hiding evidence.
Good riddance I think.
I think Alex must be getting better even if he doesn't feel it as today's offering at http://gigglesadvent.com/ is so much better than yesterday;s
G (a dutch one) &T (feverfew) and a small bar of Montezumas dark chocolate with orange and geranium has been consumed...
Do you like crunchies? Interested in a giant one?
http://www.pimpthatsnack.com/project/156/
That's a monster
take 7 years to eat that log
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
that is all
???
Did Santa come early?
woooo snooow
Ah.
We had some earlier but it didn't stay... I have to admit to being glad about that as a) I had to go out again to get Andy and b) I have to go and buy food tomorrow...
Although there appears to be a small smattering settling on the washing line and the outside furniture... darn itt!
Lucky for me its summer here!
Stupid weather. 38 yesterday, 22 today.
Don't say that to my DS1 - you'll get a lecture on the inhospitability of the north pole to permanent residence and the logical conclusion that he has drawn about that and 'santa'...
I'm not sure whether to be proud or sad (given that he is only six).
Erk...
Humidity?
yeah it is stupid i agree. Weirdest summer i remember!!
Yesterday no, and hence 6 houses lost to fire. Today 80% and fires coming under control luckily.
:D
I'm sure he can pretend if Santa means an extra present.
Fire not good.
Does this mean you're down in Londonderry then? Been hearing about there from various peeps today :-(
That doesn't work. He'd rather go without than be illogical. There is a lot of his father there.....(Andy is somewhat of a nerd/geek, although not an obvious one, thankfully!!)
No. There are quite a few fires here in Oz at the moment. There are fires just south of here (Canberra). Yesterday was a shocker, I'm glad I wasn't out there trying to fight them.
@ Paul. I'm in tassie mat, i'll try to send some rain up to yas
Rain? Whats that?
Mate, we've had (since may) about 85% rain days. It is really unbeleivable. was bucketing down here about 5 mins ago. Seriously , its like im in London! no offence to Londoners, its just the weather is hideous.
Even we don't get 85% rain... that would be north wales or bits of scotland
rofl.....
85%. Luxury
:-D
Cabbage heaven then?
Or indeed the right conditions for water power......
I'm not even close to being tired....now i know why...
VK Red Bull...oops
teehee...
make muffins?
Mind you, I'm disapearing to attempt to sleep now (I have to brave waitrose later, argh!!!)
it was bought for me, no more left!
i'm watching spooks to see if that helps to make me sleep. the biggest issue i have is that my medicine which usually helps me sleep i cant take if i've had anything to drink. grrrr
night!
Night lpg
Or indeed the right conditions for water power......
Yes, the whole satate is powered by hydro electricity. and some wind.
hooray my secret santa bought me chocolate and jelly beans. I like presents like that!
My secret santa is a tight ass. every year. i never get cool stuff.
someone said they knew who had me and asked me what i wanted and i said chocolate so they would have a pretty slim chance of getting some i dont like (turkish delight ugh)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSHToyGIxWE
Awwwe! I wantged to see someone put their finger on the exhaust.
oh boo my brother crashed his motorbike and broke the phone I bought him a carkit for for Christmas. My present is ruined!
This is the first company I work for that gets everyone a really nice Christmas hamper :)
I hope he's ok!
apparently so which is good! someone did a u turn in front of him. Always look out for bikes, folks ;)
Morning all. I'm starting work later at the timw I usually take lunch, I find this very odd
Welcome to my world. But I'm not in it - I'm on vacation. :D
Indeed. Cyclists too!
Berger tipped for Renault manager role
Would be great news if true, I think. Berger also knows the folks at Enstone pretty well - he drove for them twice as Benetton.
Ukyo Katayama saved from Mt Fuji
Sadly, his two colleagues are still missing and feared dead. But the fact that Ukyo was rescued is already a miracle in itself.
For those who may not know, Katayama was a Japanese F1 driver in the mid 1990s, notably driving for Tyrrell for some time.
Morning.
Took an extra 30 minutes to get to work this morning due to a power cable coming down, had to take the (even smaller) lanes..
no snow yet..
Oh blimey. Least he's alright but that's still horrible news :(
:-(
Dear Diary,
Never ever ever drink Red Bull at all near to wanting to go to sleep.
Ergh
Love Me
Seriously? Jon!
It wasn't my fault! Someone gave me VK Red Bull about 11. I was still awake at 3!
your tweets/facebook status updates made me ponder if you had lost all your sanity
when you get out of your warm bed at 2.30 to go and play in the snow a bit more, i think you're right too
Bloody hell Jon!
sooooooo much fun though. apparently we're snowed in, no cars can get near. am gonna go check it out
seems it's all fine! phew!
I take it you need to get home for Christmas?
indeed. it's only 2 hours away but someone who lives near me can';t get home, so i got a bit worried!
How are we all doing today?
Not bad. Christmas rush of working for next few days begins later today for me though. Just wanna get it out of the wayyyy.
Morning all.
We had a semi-official Christmas 'Leo Sayer' yesterday, starting at 1.30, so I'm regarding my current project (Malaysian GP tourism campaign ad) with a jaundiced eye...
Ours is on Tuesday next week! Should be interesting.
for all those fans of new zealanders, and why wouldn't you be, trio at the top is now on dvd :D
http://www.marbecks.co.nz/detail/index.lsd?catalogID=499829
Gah! Too late to ask for it for Xmas :(
I am waiting for the price to drop since we can be #MFC and watch it for free online :D
Richard Branson was at our office!
Not wearing a stewardess outfit?
Nope! Speaking about reducing CO2 - sadly a private function :(
i see they want to put a carbon tax on international travel. Because international travel isn't taxed enough *grrrrrrr*
ooh its muppet christmas carol time again!
what no breakout thread?
off-season starts here BABY!
did he offer to keep quiet for the whole season?
this is why we don't buy presents.
people are so inconsiderate.
to make it a double presents are bad whammy, he was on his way to pick up a present for me at the time.
"i am here to tell the story"
"and I am here for the food"
oh this movie rules.
omg.
christmas is bad people. stay indoors and skype each other.
And if we say, the other person doesn't have skype?
Afternoon all.
they must have a phone. it's the thought that counts... and i'm thinking of myself :)
with no christmas I would not have this movie! Beaker is my favourite muppet. This is the greatest Halloween costume ever.
sure you can. you don't deny christmas used to happen. you just draw a line under it and say "no more".
Looks like we are in for another batch of fake UFO sightings.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20091218/tod-giant-pyramid-ufo-hovers-over-moscow-870a197.html
today I found out Melbourne has a 5.9km walk you can do that has models of the solar system at a 1:1 billion scale along it. I want to do it.
That's a long walk to see models of the solar system.
the odd thing is I have walked about 3km of it many times and never noticed the models.
No, he told us how we were doing a great job, apparently ;)
All you are going to have is a small sphere every few hundred metres. Maybe they need to make them real size so you notice them
Quick newsbite: Petronas is leaving F1, after deciding not to sponsor any team.
I guess they couldn't seal an agreement with Lotus, while at the same time they probably had pressure from Kuala Lumpur to either sponsor 1Malaysia or not sponsor at all.
Is Christine around? My game for the assignment didn't end up based on F1 but I still got Pandas in it ;) http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/capture-jpg-4
back in a bit, but i love the logo :)
wahhh poor tiny tim :(
Bernie is trying to kill the Turkish race.. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80613
double???
Sad but w00t at the same time...
wasn't it joe who questioned why it's even on the calendar this year?
will anyone miss it?
Tilke, at a push?
I will miss the circuit, but not the race. I have a friend who went to qually this year - said there was no atmosphere. A Turkish colleague of mine who likes F1 says that even at $40 that ticket price is too expensive for your average Turk...
As a circuit and a race I thought it was one of the better Tilke ones. Shame nobody turned up.
am guessing not bruno senna.
That was a very weird moment!
It means there is a slot on hte calendar for him to make another more boring circuit
Shh don't give him ideas.
YAY!!! ♥ James
James Allen Article - Mercedes boss: We won’t know Rosberg’s team mate until New Year
I've linked to this because I think Dr. Zetsche has a fantastic moustache :D
if this movie has taught me anything its that when it snows at christmas you have to wear a top hat.
Shame there is no competition from Dr Mario next year :D
woohoo. no more news.
There's still that Sauber drive...
I only linked for the handlebar 'tache ;)
I haven't been around much, was this mentioned? Stefan wants to test all next year and get an entry for 2011..
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80619
I'm not sure how he reasons there will be space next year if there isn't now?
lordy. that didn't work for toyota either.
at the moment, we appear to have no usf1.
That worked really well when Toyota did it. ;)
You copied me before I said it
He is just trying to con his way to the head of the queue. He is trying to get the FIA to say he is first reserve
Doesn't that just confirm it? :)
If Prodrive are still involved, you can guarantee that he will be ahead of him ;)
Which is odd because it ought to have done
It would have had they not sacked the designer halfway through 2001 and replaced him with an unknown who threw out the whole car and just copied the Ferrari!
Afternoon all
I'm now officially on holiday (hope nobody notices there's no difference)
Excellent! Break open the champagne.
Ah fair point. There could be more withdrawals before then..
I think they are laying low deliberately. They could have come out like BAR saying they were going to do well in yr1.
Don't you think they should have considering all the other press releases they have made?
They're laying lower than Lord Lucan - and this from a team that promised unheard of levels of openess
Nice one :-)
Precisely - where are the live Factory cams for example?
When a spoof shows more than the actual team there must be a problem!
Is someone deliberately generating Christmas-related headlines?
First we had the Virgin Birth
Now Bernie has stuffed Turkey: http://en.espnf1.com/turkey/motorsport/story/5309.html
They were the team who said they were going to be open and show everything on TV. All we have seen is a poster of Jim Clark.
Just over a month until most teams are launching, employees might like some time off in the next few weeks, and they finally find someone to build (some of) their car. Not a good sign is it?
Conclusion: All they've got is a poster of Jim Clark.
I think the other new teams are doing a better job at pre-season build-up.
I was thinking about USF1 earlier. Even Campos have announced stuff and they have been quiet. Why have they not signed a driver or shown us a dummy model?
Such as designing a car, building a car, hiring drivers, hiring engineers, all that sort of useful stuff...
I think there will be a big launch for this stuff in Jan.
I also think the 'inside access' TV stuff is for a pre-recorded series for airing between races, not 'as it happens'
But who are they going to hire to drive? They've been left with the leftovers.
Or they know someone with a poster of Jim Clark.
To be fair Windsor has always been a huge Clark fan
If there's anyone who isn't, please leave now ;)
USF1 signed J Lo provided he delivers sponsorship and he can get a licence
As long as it's not a Ralf poster ;-)
There are still a lot of drivers available http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Who+goes+where+-+2010
They'll never get her backside into the car.
Brian Redman did an interview in Motor Sport last year and he was asked who his racing hero was. He said "Jimmy Clark. he is everyone's hero. Right?"
:D
Exactly :D
We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. One of the advantages/disadvantages of being so far away..
We don't know if someone had been signed up a while ago.
Stefan says he's got drivers but isn't saying who.
I can think of a few - none that are American though...
Can someone tell it to stop snowing please!! we had so much this morning and now it's snowing even more! MAKE IT STOP!!! it's not fair that there is all this snow outside and i'm stuck inside doing this stupid coursework! :(
How much? Apparently we have had up to a metre - and it's so cold today it's like it's biting off your face!
Shoo!
I hear Petrov
do you have a top hat?
Turkey under threat, eh?
IIRC, the circuit is now operated by... Bernie Ecclestone. In effect, he's doubling the amount he's paying... himself.
If my analysis is correct, it's staying on the calendar.
i'm not sure how much but it looks like alot..
have i ever said how much i hate history ALevel..
*runs away again*
He doesn't pay for the race. The Turks pay for it and I think Bernie is the promotor
GM have killed off SAAB
That was my understanding
They did that years ago sadly :(
Morons
Well, I kinda thought the Turks would pay him, but leave him in charge as promoter (no one else can be bothered). So I dunno... We shall see.
Well, firmly done now source
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/18/friday-fun-things-not-to-do-in-press-releases/
Something must be happening at COP15, if the amount of helicopter noise overhead means anything ;)
Gavin, from Twitter:
UN has asked leaders at #COP15 to stay overnight in Copenhagen. Looks like it may be a long night.
http://live.reuters.com/Event/COP15
maybe the BBC have bumped John Key for Kevin Rudd again #dramadownunder
My wife really didn't like Kevin Rudd - her reaction was "He's got even less Charisma than John Howard!"
I much prefer this version of Kevin Rudd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygSMz2r_iTg
Snow snow snow! I don't know why it had to come on a day where i had to drive to manchester and straight back but hey... To cut a long story short, I HAVE MY PASSPORT BACK!! Woop woop.
hooray! next stop Dubai? :D
YAY
hmm, Dad won't be impressed... he likes their convertibles
I'm hooooome :D
They were one of the few car companies with genuinely different design. They had turbos before almost any road car. They had awesome front wheel drive (front wheel drive is not awesome - ever) rally cars which won all sorts. GM buying them and making them generic was stupid under any conditions.
Well done :-)
Is that an emergency replacement thing?
Something like that amy. I was beginning to get mildly concerned about whether i could get a replacement in time if they couldn't find this one. They've stalled for that long, i'm genuinely shocked that it isn't lost...
My employer required me to send it off so they could verify my identity. They then didn't return it for 2 months. I presumed they'd lost it but strangely as soon as i mentioned reporting it stolen, it miraculously appeared...
Hey all.
ahh
my sister with the passport problem is hoping it doesn't snow next week, 'cos if they do let her on plane she needs it to land here..
Afternoone everyone... I just saw the following advert in google mail:
Doesn't that seem weird somehow?
What about Aeros!?
Mr Giggles! Today at work we had a meeting and they wouldn't let us leave the room until we told a festive joke. I totally stole mine from www.gigglesadvent.com
OMG - something just went bang really loudly outside the train, the lights went out and it looked like a firework exploded outside!
Ooh! Has the train stopped, or is it just the lights?
No, the train drives on. The lights went out and came on again...
That's wierd!
DSB defy logic on a daily basis!
bet that was a shock
Yeah - i'm freaked out!
BTW, has anyone else listened to the Latest Gareth Jones on Speed? The latest episode he goes to the Johnny Herbert Karting Challenge and interviews Ant & Crofty :D
Oh great. This train stops at every farmhouse on the way home!
Which one did you go for?
Quick question - which races were wet races this year? Malaysia, China... any more?
Only those two were wet, but we had Brazil and Germany with wet Qauli
Thanks ;)
Gavin - Surprisingly, that's it for 2009.
Nearly hometime. Hopefully my PSU will have arrived at the sorting office, for collection, and I can get back online tonight..
does anyone know of a way to search your own tweets? I need to find something I tweeted a while ago. :)
Just saw this:
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-news/225176/baguette-96-percent-sure-of-sauber-drive/
Baguette for Sauber? Thats a food for thought.
good luck with that.
hehe it isn't important. ;) but i'm guessing it isn't possible.
;)
Where is Nick off to then??
I know Sauber must be short of cash but this has to be a joke.
I heard test driver, but not race driver. I want someone experienced, ie, Nick.
Someone has to bring in the bread...
That makes more sense. Two rookies in a team when there is a regulation and tyre change is crazy. At least a couple of years ago teams had a decade of hard dat to base decisions on. Two young guys trying to impress when there are a lot o new teams and drivers around could get very expensive very quickly.
Use your loaf
For those who like Camera... And want Mr C & Christine's camera *cough* lou *cough*
Check out this kind of half review / half travel pictorial: http://craigmod.com/journal/gf1-fieldtest/
*like photography I mean't.
I think I'm losing my mind.
that was the model which was designed to replace the lx3, but i heard bad things about it. can't remember where, but i was tempted by it at first.
Interesting web page layout in that review.
me likes.
Me too... I wasn't sure because my brain has gone.
Mr C talking in the third person again :)
Later guys ... off to entertain the nieces and get beat at wii sports (They are 7 and 4)...
Have fun, don't injure yourself...
aha, think it was this one:
http://prolost.com/blog/2009/10/22/the-ballad-of-the-gh1.html
the complaint is about the video compression rather than photos. which affects us, but maybe not lou.
makes sense. The other review seemed pretty detailed so I was surprised he'd missed something. But of course video makes a lot of sense!
they changed the format between the lx3 and the gh1. should be fixable via firmware update though.
Heikki wants to go rallying now
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80592
Having done such a fabulous job with the last race of the F1 championship Abu Dhabi is getting the final round of the GP2 championship and possibly a world championship rally.

there's a two month gap between the penultimate and final races?
Cancel plans for Valencia on the 30th.
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2009/12/single-launch-cancelle/
Evening all. Single launch is kaput.
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2009/12/single-launch-cancelle/
Stereo!
It's worth reading twice!
I am amazed that they ever thought it could work. I don't think I have seen anyone post a comment anywhere who thought it was a sane idea.
How did you mange to beat Stuart by 9 seconds. Predictioning?
Some people did!
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/12/10/a-singularly-silly-solution/
He made the mistake of putting it on twi....
Yes, predictioning.
OMG. I was about the first person who voted and never checked the poll after that. With everyone using the doohickey it could be useful to have a follow up post of some kind to any poll to remind people to check the result.
Plus I have very cold hands and a cat on my lap.
We had this very discussion about two hours ago, and were going to reference it in the show this weekend. Seems like even more of a reason to now!
There will probably be some form of official word shortly...
there will probably be some kind of breakout thread shortly...
;)
I am curious about how the comments would have been different if the poll was permanently visible. I think some of us would have tried harder to make the case against the single launch. I just assumed the vast majority would be against it.
It should always be visible once you've voted.
The PR/marketing people hated it because of the dilution. Media people hated it because it would be a month's worth of news in one splurge. Logistics/team people didn't mind it because Valencia was paying for it.
It is if you open the post but if you just open the doohickey you only see comments so you have to go back to the original thread and open the post which I guess most of us never do unless someone comments about the poll.
Did we do this for Thursday Thoughts? I remember writing something making those points. Common sense says the the top four teams and the new guys will get all the coverage and the midfield will be ignored. Teams like Renault and Sauber have the choice of doing their own launch and getting coverage everywhere or doing the group launch and half their sponsors getting no coverage at all.
I still think the people I feel get the worse deal out of a group launch are Giorgio Piola, Gary Anderson and Craig Scarborough who have to understand and draw the interesting parts of 13 cars in one day.
we could embed the poll in the sidebar of posts, the homepage and the lclt. i can't for the life of me think where we'd squeeze it into the doohickey though.
what we really need is make ye olde comments awesome and the doohickey redundant.
yup:
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/26/thursday-thoughts-team-launches/
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/26/thursday-thoughts-should-f1-teams-launch-2010-cars-at-a-single-event/
You can't kill off the doohickey.
How about putting a box between the name/e-mail boxes and the filter/follow comments boxes which can highlight thinkgs of interest. So if there is an active poll or there is a show scheduled it could appear there. That may screw up your design though.
Maybe best just settle for a mention in the daily thread that the poll is still going and an indication as to the votes.
nope. we can make everything else better though.
that could work.
I can never remember whether I'm in the Doohickey or the lcl thingy.
Hey guys
Well, today I went down to The Barn with one of the mechanics from Classic Team Lotus, and it's where they keep some of the other cars they look after. I'm not allowed to tell you what cars they have there, which I'll explain why in a minute, but let me tell you - there are some really, REALLY wonderful machines in there and I feel extremely privileged to have seen them.
Regarding what I can and can't say, I enquired with Sapphire before I left and she said that anything that goes on in the workshop is OK to talk about but anything regarding places like The Barn and what's inside them and also anything I hear regarding the new Lotus F1 team is strictly sensitive topics, so I now know where I stand.
But apart from going down there, today involved a lot of moving boxes, rolling up posters and helping out with the team's Christmas cards. Another good day :)
the title bar of the browser should say. but we ought to make it more obvious.
Sooo... you're OBVIOUSLY regretting your decision to take this position with CTL... ;)
that makes sense.
i know nothing.
That requires me to move my eyes a fraction of an inch. too lazy to do that ;)
you may struggle to find a poll buried 3 pages deep.
Just saw this:
http://f1.gpup...sure-of-sauber-drive/
Baguette for Sauber? Thats a food for thought. {Comment #209}
Baguette as tester would be an excellent choice. Baguette as race driver... ...less so. And I love his originality - 96% is a probability I haven't heard in ages!
Hello all, really glad to be home. Was lovely this morning walking on fresh snow but now pavements are like ice rinks. No need to go out for rest of weekend so am staying in. On a happy note have collected my copy of "The Grand Prix Saboteurs" and am very much looking forward to reading it. Will let you all know what I think. :)
It is a great book but I found I had to read it in small bites rather than just going cover to cover.
Perhaps the Ryan Giggs fan club came on and voted for it?
Or the Hungarians again
Or Ferrari
Have also got Baker & Kelly "Classic Football Debates Settled" so may read both at once & alternate.
Actually, the vote on PF was pretty similar, the fors just edging it
Just saw this on twitter
stephenfry Excuse of the decade: @virginatlantic apologised that its limo didn't arrive because "the driver has been arrested". Heavens At least their honest :)
Interesting! So it was: http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1556&sid=4276d3beb7a32238d59a455183ca0fc3
Those Hungarians the wags
Hey, doesn't matter what it is I do there, as long as I'm doing something to help and that I get to be around some fantastic cars, it's alright by me :)
hehe. maybe he nicked the limo.
That is a bit too honest.
Looks like Schumacher to Merc is on.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8420601.stm
i love the pic they selected :)
press.a.bit.harder.
If the story is correct it looks like Luc is in denial
Luca
"Of course, I will have a lot of fans on our website very upset. They think Michael is a traitor. But I will explain to them it is not Michael but another one."
awww. he sounds crushed.
It must be the twin Luca
site may go wonky for a few mins. hang on to your hats.
Shame. Byrne has gone then Brawn and Stepney was shown the door now the last member of the dream team wants to leave as well. Ferrai has a history of using people then when they have had enough chewing them up and spitting them out. Looks like this time the shoe (Schu?) is on the other foot.
you think they're fed up of him hanging out on the pitwall?
and will massa and rubens pull over anytime he gets ear them?
One moment F1 is complaining they need to cut costs, the next they're investing billions in cloning World Champions. When will they learn?
I've done more work today than i have in about a month. Bad times!
They keep milking this Eddie Jordan thing and yet is still ignores the fact Brawn were trying to sign Button alongside Rosberg. I don't believe they considered Schumi until after that.
Brawn wanted to be team principal and Luca decided to give the job to Domenicali which I am very happy about. However Ferrari clearly planned to get 40 years of advertising out of Schumacher in return for all the money they spent on him and they got three before he decided he wanted to follow Brawn. He must be gutted he didn't follow him last year. Not only would he have had a great car and another championship but he would not now have a dodgy neck.
Working hard? Or were you taking the previous 30 days easy? ;-)
Sleep
That's how I see it. Once they lost Button they decided they needed to get some PR from somewhere and Schumacher has clearly been having a temper tantrum about not being being able to drive when Massa got injured.
Perhaps it's the good twin who wants to drive for Mercedes?
I won't hold my breath on that one. There has never been much sign of anything good when Brawn and Schumacher get together.
I think flav deserved the penalty. It was the straw that broke the Camels back. If you read the story on EPSN F1 http://en.espn...sport/story/5288.html
max explains all of Flavs past indiscretions that he got away with because he was so good at laying blame elswhere, or hiding evidence.
Good riddance I think. {Comment #10}
Max says something vaguely sensible shocker! Very little for me to argue with in there, which longtime readers of this blog will know is quite rare when it comes to Mr Mosley's utterances...
I'm not entirely satisfied that I understand exactly how Flavio was involved in this case, but I think there is enough evidence to say he had a role personally in addition to the one of being directly responsible for managing the entrant (which would have been sufficient grounds on its own for his team to be penalised).
Ukyo Katayama saved from Mt Fuji
Sadly, his two colleagues are still missing and feared dead. But the fact that Ukyo was rescued is already a miracle in itself.
For those who may not know, Katayama was a Japanese F1 driver in the mid 1990s, notably driving for Tyrrell for some time. {Comment #54}
The whole situation Ukyo and his colleagues got into sounds scary. Glad Ukyo is OK, but I feel sorry for his colleagues.
Ah... the BBC have got it wrong... it's Ralf who is going to drive for Mercedes
Bernie is trying to kill the Turkish race.. http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/80613
double??? {Comment #100
Let me get this straight.
Bernie sees this moderately well-attended race with one excellent corner and a good layout in general. So being the businessman he is, he decides to swoop in and get the organisation rights until 2021.
Now, with plummeting attendance and the venue making less money than it could do, he doesn't want to figure out what the problem is (despite people being perfectly willing to tell him), doesn't want to find a more willing organiser, doesn't want to sort out the venture capitalist organisation that's making every circuit organisation effort a tad tricky... ...and wants to instead stop organising the race by killing it off?
If that's not a public declaration of "nobody should ever ever organise a F1 race", I don't know what is!
:D
wasn't it joe who questioned why it's even on the calendar this year?
will anyone miss it? {Comment #102}
I'll miss it, as will a lot of TV viewers who enjoyed Turn 8 and the sheer fun that the drivers seemed to have competing there (admittedly the actual racing was rarely anything to write home about). There is a small but dedicated Turkish F1 fan base (most of whom are teenagers and students who were none too impressed when their race got clashed with school/uni finals week this year).
Nobody else will.
woohoo. no more news.
There's still that Sauber drive... {Comment #114}
Not if the decision is waiting on if Heidfeld gets the Mercedes drive (because, for example, Schumacher's neck proves not to be up to the strain).
I haven't been around much, was this mentioned? Stefan wants to test all next year and get an entry for 2011.. {Comment #117}
Of course he is free to wait and hope, but he should be aware of:
a) the cost and
b) the last team to try that (Toyota) have just left through sheer mediocrity. Surely Stefan GP is hoping for more than that?
i think we survived that upgrade unscathed. no major changes to report, just perf updates for commenting.
lordy. that didn't work for toyota either.
Which is odd because it ought to have done {Comment #119}
It might have helped Toyota had their first effort not been 12 seconds off the pace and them take the best part of 6 months to figure it out, sack the design team and start again. They nicked Gustav Brunner from Minardi, let him sort out the design squad and had just enough time to bring out something that looked like it was fast enough for the grid by autumn.
Is someone deliberately generating Christmas-related headlines?
First we had the Virgin Birth
Now Bernie has stuffed Turkey: http://en.espn...sport/story/5309.html {Comment #136}
I see what you mean. What next - Factories Churn Out Crackers?
Testing at Santa Pod
heeh1
They were the team who said they were going to be open and show everything on TV. All we have seen is a poster of Jim Clark.
Conclusion: All they've got is a poster of Jim Clark. {Comment #139}
Maybe they're going to turn out a 60s-spec Lotus (shouldn't be too hard - Peter Windsor owns a road-going version previously owned by Jim Clark). In which case Lotus/1Malaysia and the FIA will be falling over each other to see who can successfully sue them first...
But who are they going to hire to drive? They've been left with the leftovers.
I can think of a few - none that are American though... {Comment #144
JR Hildebrand (tested by Force India at the start of the month but probably usurped by Paul di Resta as far as the FIF1 test seat goes?) Or is he a "leftover"?
He doesn't pay for the race. The Turks pay for it and I think Bernie is the promotor
That was my understanding {Comment #165}
You'd be forgiven if you didn't - according to a letter sent to and published in F1 Racing, Bernie hardly promoted the race last year...
Actually, Bernie was complaining about the lack of promotion - I guess the reason he wants it dropped unless he can make a lot of money out of it.
Where is Nick off to then?? {Comment #212}
I believe he hopes to be off to Mercedes - if Mr Schumacher doesn't stop him.
Actually, Bernie was complaining about the lack of promotion - I guess the reason he wants it dropped unless he can make a lot of money out of it. {Comment #310}
So he's complaining because he didn't do his job? Does anyone detect a certain circularity of thought process here?
Having had a read around, my understanding is that Bernie rents the circuit from the local chamber of commerce but they are still the promoters
wheeeeee!

Heikki wants to go rallying now
http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/80592 {Comment #230}
This rallying thing is getting seriously fashionable amongst F1 drivers - at this rate there'll be more of them than rallying specialists in the upper echelons...
Hi-di-hi, and how are you all this fine crisp evening?

Had my one and only final for this semester today. So I'm doing JUST FINE, thank you! :D

stephenfry Excuse of the decade: @virginatlantic apologised that its limo didn't arrive because "the driver has been arrested". Heavens At least their honest :) {Comment #270}
Someone obviously read one of the accounts of Jordan Grand Prix's founding and mistakenly thought having a driver arrested was a good idea...
:D
Go Christine :)
Having had a read around, my understanding is that Bernie rents the circuit from the local chamber of commerce but they are still the promoters {Comment #313}
The story I found from the immediate aftermath of this year's race confirms what you say, Jon, which makes me wonder what the point of renting out the circuit was. Bernie doesn't do that with any other circuit...
christine's been busy {Comment #337}
Nice one! (Or should I say "nice five", given the humungous amount of work Christine has done :) )?
OMG
someone turned the workrate up to 11.
I like this idea that someone is trying to make law in America. I hope they bring in a similar law here.

Oops, wrong thread. Apolgies
*stumbles in* goodness it's cold this evening. i'm as finished with this essay as i'm going to be today... so hi to everyone who is lurking (as it seems to be a little silent here this evening). I suppose everyone is out having a lovely friday evening somewhere.
hi Lou. It is "Mad Friday" apparently, according to work colleagues.
I read stumbled in and thought you had been out drinking and just made it home.
Heya lou. I'm not out, not sure why not actually. Freezing cold though.
ahaha no party at Giggles' house for me this week :P i've been house bound all day for two reasons..
1) My stupid history essay
2) SNOW!
does this make people happy?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80624
WOOHOO!!!
I would have thought snow meant photos
Stuart told us about it before anyone reported it. I am happy about it.
Even when they say they are united, they will never agree on anything.
Except that they are likely to disagree :-)
snow + essay means no photos and an angry mum when i come running down the stairs early in the morning with all my warm cloths on and my dslr round my neck ready to take photos. She pointed me in the direction of my desk and informed me there would be more snow tonight and i could take photos after the essay was finished... :(
Why are you doing essays when school finished a week ago?
because the history essay has to be in today/tomorrow so it can be marked and given back to us so we can continue with coursework over the holidays. Alevels are relentless..
That is evil. They are called holidays because you don't need to work.
:-(
I have a dad who was like that... he still is a bit, but from 200 miles away and at least these days he admits that he can't do a darn thing about whether I get things done or not. ;-)
Tell the teachers that...
The teachers have work to do, so are simply passing the karma on......
Round our way, parents tell their children to do something, and the children reply with some choice language as they're running out of the door.
not when it comes to alevels... holidays just mean working from home. Doing essays and revision, and huge great revision booklets the teachers make up... and practice exam questions. I don't get a holiday until June 22nd after my last exam.
usually mum knows i'll get it done etc. but she's making sure i'm working really hard this holiday due to the fact i have x4 exams in january that i want to do really well in. :)
You need to get a rest somewhere or your brain will get frazzled
my rest comes with sleeping in.. and christmas day/ boxing day/ new years/the odd day up to london ;) teachers have made it very clear it only gets worse from here on. We can rest.. but have to kinda do some work every day.
some.
dont kill yourself
Oh Alevels... seriously though. After this point of life, you will enjoy the rest that uni. brings :-)
hehehe i'm not going to ;) my huge rewards come in the shape of goodwood and Spa next year. A lot of the work i must do each day involves textiles and tbh that's fun most of the time :) so i do get rest hehe
It's good that you enjoy what you are doing. That helps a lot.
i need to get to uni first. i'm going to be applying late i think as my teachers are being rubbish getting things together and i'm still not 100% happy with my personal statement, so goodness knows if i'll get a place anywhere this year. however i honestly can't wait to be studying photography for 3 years it's going to be awesome!
Knitting?? Stitching?? Stash building....
LPG has a room full of stash that is not going, um, down in size.....
i'd prefer it if it was photography, believe me! but psychology isn't too bad. Just wish history wasn't so time consuming.
you need to apply asap. you're leaving it really late
Sidepodcast exists to sort personal statements.
The trouble is there is more history every day
From what I've heard, History is alright though? Though, that has been from my History teacher so..
not so much knitting as i'm rubbish at it, but stitching, felting etc :) in fact i'm currently working on a little installation piece of kinda felt cubes.... it's really fun to do. time consuming though.
Well if there is anything that I can help with do yell...
i know. hence the constant panic i'm in.
it's a good subject, difficult and involves alot of extra reading etc but it's fun.
that should take president over other things. the deadline is less than a month and you dont want to be leaving it until then, places are already being given out
Which syllabus are you following? There are a fair few useful texts available in aural formats.....
not helping with the panic....
im serious, you need to put other stuff down and do ucas first
Have been thinking about it for Alevels to be fair.
If computers had been more advanced when I was at school, I reckon I would have done a lot better. You can't do much with a BBC Micro or a Commodore 64. Apart from playing Wizball and Chuckie Egg
edexcel. that's a good idea, i'll check it out in the morning. will help to be able enable me to do textiles at the same time..
not true at all. i used chucky egg on a bbc micro, very hackable.
it's a good subject. the teacher i had last year was rubbish, and the course wasn't much better. however i'm loving it this year, it's just difficult, i'm realising how very non-academic i am compared to how i used to be. if it's something you're passionate about you'll have no problems with it
Although - if it doesn't get done then Lou could always do a years art foundation course and go to uni on the back of that. Choose the foundation course where you want to go and do the degree and you can often skip the whole tiresome UCAS thing.
It seems really naff that ADAR is no more - was fantastic to apply via them (I'm talking 18 years ago though... argh!) as they closed for applications in April which was so much 'better' than UCAS
Which history course - they've got, um, a few....
I think the teacher I'll get if I do it will be better than the one I have now. I do like a good challenge to be fair. Its up there.
The one night that I am awake to publish the daily on time instead of relying on the non-existant scheduler, and I am late. D'oh.
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/12/19/daily-19th-december-2009/
I knew I should have steered clear of that line drawing thingy they kept pushing on us. *shakes fist at old school*
Shocking
I'd hardly call nine minutes past the hour late!!
the photography courses i'm applying to do offer a photography foundation year, which is much nicer than an art foundation year for me (as i'm not great with drawing etc) but Canterbury UCA are a great uni for art foundation... worst comes to worse i take a year to do foundation there and get some more work experience under my belt too..
logo?
AWESOME!
Bigtrak in computer form
ooo. Although the one at Maidstone might suit you better - it being where they have all the Animation, Film TV and Photography studios and academics....
ahh yes. possible not as educational as logo :(
They also have these http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/index.cfm?articleID=10781&display=25592
ahhh probably. i know my teacher spoke about both Canterbury UCA and Canterbury uni as being brilliant departments. Plus i know my old textiles teacher trained at UCA maidstone. I'm sure i'll find something to do next year. it's a shame i seem to have made my life more difficult by making a few decisions. but oh well.. you live and learn as they say.
I'm told that they run short courses in the Radio, film and TV faculty at Cant. Christ Church though :-)
'Instant Imaging' - Wednesday 16 December 2009
... sugar...
Sorry... It will run again :-)
There are often similar day courses running through the college at Hastings if that is doable for you?
