Another race under our belts, and it's almost time to look forward to Bahrain, as the back-to-back racing continues. However, there's still time to relive what we've just witnessed as we enjoy all the reaction:
- Massa says he definitely wants KERS back by the time they get to Bahrain. I don't think it would have helped him today, given how his car just died on the straight, but it's good to hear a driver that actually likes the new technology!
- Webber seems surprisingly upbeat despite the fact he missed out on winning Red Bull's first victory. However, considering the man was laid up with a broken leg until minutes before the season started, I guess his luck has turned! Unless I've just jinxed it...
- Buemi had a good GP, finishing in the points again, and reckons it was the hardest race he's ever participated in. Bourdais needs to be seriously worried about how well his teammate is doing, as you can't be outshone two years in a row by two very different drivers and still keep your job.
That'll do it for today. There'll be lots of podcasting goodness later on as the Debrief and Panel make their triumphant returns. Until then, I'll see you in the comments.
A reminder of my FR results which I've calculated:
DFKFM - 523
Woodwiss Engineering - 376
Team Aviva - 438
Relentless Racing - 517
Zero Downforce - 411
How did you guys score? :)
Have they been updated already?
My race summary, Ferrari still having reliability roblems, as for them needing KERS, I called it after Free Practice. Still, it could just be one more thing to go wrong. Buemi is looking good. Everyone was putting him down before the season started but he's definately silenced his critics. Sutil unlucky not to grab FIF1's first points. Trulli seemed to have a few more problems, even before Kubica decided to go over him rather than around him. Glock did well to grab a few more points I guess. As for Red Bull, great to see them come 1-2, and obviously fantastic for Webber to get the best result of his career. Shame he didn't come 1st, but I'm sure we won't have to wait much longer to see him standing on the top spot. ;)
My summary for the Digest later:
I found that a rather interesting race and despite the rain it could have been a bit more entertaining. Nevertheless, Vettel transformed his pole into a brilliant win with Webber close behind to score a 1-2 for Red Bull. A thoroughly deserved result for the whole team and now I hope that Webber gets one by the end of the season. As for the others, Brawn proved they're not as strong as they think they are in the wet, but still hauled a decent batch of points. Finally, Buemi impressed me greatly with more points and a good drive, but it's Sutil I feel sorry for the most. Just 5 laps away from points and fate intervenes once again. Never mind, though. There's always the rest of the season!
Not too long, is it? :)
cheers scott. anyone else?
Coming right up.
even with a race like that with all the action I don't have anything to really summarize... it's a strange feeling.
I beat you to it ;)
Oooooooh yes, just got my killer question!
So does that mean I can play along tonight then ;)
Yeah I kinda feel like that. But I wanted to write something anyway. Feels strange to me that despite all the action in the wet, it wasn't as entertaining as it looked to me.
That's wierd, all the comments in my LCLT aren't showing up.
Why?
For anyone who missed it last night the Jim Clark film is on the iplayer and I highly reccommend it.
For anyone who missed it last night the Jim Clark film is on the iplayer and I highly reccommend it.
My Digest:
The magnums were on standby for Massa as he was the Ferrrari taking a bath. After all the talk of diffusers it was a trickless diffuser that made the difference as Vettel romped home. Webber must be the most disappointed second place man for a while in F1. And Brawn won't be happy to discover that after this rainy race Button's third place scored more than his win last time.
they are now.
I have no idea, I have no thoughts or feelings on it. I really can't explain it!
You certainly can :D
Great to see the main Red Bull team get their first win, shame it wasn't Webber but I'm still glad for Vettel. Today we saw a weakness in Brawn, probably because the team did not have time for any wet weather testing!
Although it was good to see lots of overtaking, it was hard to see a lot of action on the track due to the spray. I was impressed by BBC but not by Legard - he was either asleep or he talked too much. I also would like to see Mike Gascoigne replace Eddie Jordan as he is far better as a pundit!
Are you second Kathi? Well done!
Yay .. top of the SPC fantasy racers league .. I should take a photo, it'll never happen again
Will drop.io a screenshot for you :)
The database is having a few "issues"
Jackie's gone top with brawntastic :P also lou's risen up the league table once more to 13th!
I'm still in the 30's so no changes for me personally.
Indeed, I just got a message saying "Error establishing database connection."
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/fantasy-racers-league
Top ten.
Right, anyone wanting to be on the panel tonight needs to watch this.
Don't worry, you don't have to sit through it all, just get the general idea of how terrible it is.
Thank you .. tis sad I know but I'm kinda chuffed
My top performing team is in 26th, and it's not my main team :D
My main team is pretty rubbish though, but I don't have a strategy, it's just drivers I like :D
my fault. mediatemple looks to be having minor issues, so ran a paranoid but quick database backup. not a good thing to do when the site is under heavy use.
apologies, but we're all backed up now.
oooo well done Jackie! i'm now soo close to christine! :D
Oh no... I know what you're thinking... Oh dear...
am chuffed for ya. presumably you're top of your league too?
oh no.
Do you though? Wait and see......
I'm tempted to make a parody of that for Malaysia...
I am 12th!!! w00t!!
Mr C = 195th.
For China, even.
Dunno actually, I was so gobsmacked I've not checked yet (oops)
Fantastic
not interested.
I notice that there is a related video there...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wif3Kr0y5js&feature=related
that was malaysia, wasn't it?
Yea, yea. Is it just Flav who is a bad loser?
Damn heyfever. :(
ahh, yes. please do it.
I meant China :D
I made top 500! WOO!
I've got former world champions in my team whereas you've all got people who are actually winning races at the moment. I can't believe how silly you all are ;)
if i could put in a mega qually lap to makes me feel better. i would.
You are very sick to force that on people again
i'm just 33 points away... not that i'm competitive...
i think you should give all you tv monies to me.
All of you that talked me into hosting, you brought this on yourselves.
Oh in Pitlanfanatic's league I'm top, Christine is 2nd and Gavin is 5th :D
You lit are taking it far too seriously.
True .. but I'm still happy
Can I just say how great it was to meet you the other day :)
James Allen is turning into Alan Partridge or Ron Manager.
Dude, STFU!!!
just cause your not in the top 20 :P
Funny you didn't mention it before now? ;)
:D ditto
I am not in the top 250
50 comments away from 3000 comments in 12 hours1
As soon as the James Allen video starts I instantly thing hand gestures. Guess what hand gestures I think of.
It meant so much to me that I needed to build up to it!
Bunch of spammers... :D
does it involve 1 finger ;)
One or two spring to mind. I believe DC was quite fond of them when trying to overtake Schumi....
Oh, ok. I'll bare that in mind.
Thanks :)
I was surprised to hear DC mention the wind word this morning, d'ya think he'll get rapped across the knuckles for that?
Top scorer for the race in FR had Button, Barrichello, Vettel, Webber, Glock, and Tato head. He scored 889 points. OUCH!
Oh Cool Kathi, :D I wasn't sure if that was you or Mrs Giggles
I have to say I feel like I really missed out not meeting you.
my main team will always be let down by having 4 drivers!
My summary of the race:
Red Bull gives them waterwings
Noah's Ark as two Brawns and two McLarens follow
Sutil - so near and yet so far (reprise)
Kubica learns that nosecones stay on better when not hitting Toyotas
Ferrari's competitiveness got lost at the visa office
Well as nice as this sudden and unexplained wave of compliments is, I must be off for a bit.
Speak to you all later! :D:D:D
SPC has an 80 point lead over Hello F1(it can't be that Hello surely) and 98 points ahead of Autosport with Pitlane Fanatic in 4th
In my team usually 4 drivers let me down!
My top team is 128th
Then 188th, 222nd, 263rd and 416th
I feel sorry for Team FuzzyWuzzy Wasn't Fuzzy Was he? :(
Cool
report has just come in from the Charles Dickens Tavern, crowd of 30 or so there for the race today, so next weekend my pub trips will be resuming. I may not comment as much though!
No she isn't allowed to play... In case she beat me ;)
I see Ian Lockwood is 3rd overall in FR but is not in the SPC league.
Jackie is 6th overall which is fabulous
Can we make that "bear" that in mind...
Even though we don't have visual...
excellent .. we've seen enough of a bare Flavio on dropio as it is
Fantasy Racers score:
LCM Aléman - 565
LCM Dragons - 557
LCM Barato - 497 (if Sutil had finished, this would be much higher!)
LCM Fire Lizard - 403 (ditto)
LCM Caro - 358
Aléman has, for the second time in three races, outscored my freely-selected teams. Possibly because a certain Mr Vettel is there! Dragons had Webber, which is somewhat lucky as I almost picked Glock instead and only relented because having Webber meant I could have Bourdais as well.
LCM Caro, despite having 98 points guaranteed by the change rule, was the worst-scoring team yet again. Having only two drivers, one of which went off five times, will do that to you. In fact, the team would have been better off if no drivers had been selected at all (this guarantees 400 points per race).
LCM Barato and LCM Fire Lizard were unlucky because both had Sutil as their strongest representative for much of the race. Picking Trulli as the flexible member of LCM Fire Lizard didn't help either.
Jackie, is that you leading the league?
And Christine back up to 12th! Well done!
Well done! Great job for Lou as well - 13th!
I'm not even the top Filipino anymore - AlvarezF1 is 148th, I'm 155th.
The girlies are doing well. Yes it is Journeyer w00t
Well done, Jackie! Christine is really mounting a credible campaign this year to take the championship. Where is Mr C?
You have a gameplan?
I'm top 'Dane' and top Kiwi - but I really have to beat the swede in 7th!
195th.
He doesn't want to talk about it.
Ouch. I can take solace in the fact that I'm still 40 places ahead of him. :D
You have a gameplan?
All my teams have gameplans, but they differ according to team in nature and intelligence.
LCM Dragons is my free-form team, where I pick whoever I think will do best on the basis of Friday practise sessions and my instincts. In other words, it's run like a normal team. I always select this on the Friday of a Grand Prix.
LCM Fire Lizard is a hybrid. The drivers and team I support are automatically picked and left in the team race after race (that's Fisichella, Sutil, Hamilton and Button). However, there's enough change to have a mid-value driver of choice as well. That driver is selected on the basis of Friday practise and how much money is left over. I always select this on the Friday of a Grand Prix.
LCM Barato is the team where the cheapest drivers are placed. Any that become too expensive are sold and replaced with cheaper ones. I always select this on the Sunday of a Grand Prix in readiness for the next race.
LCM Caro is the opposite. Only the most expensive drivers need apply, with drivers whose value is slipping casually cast off. I always select this on the Sunday of a Grand Prix in readiness for the next race.
LCM Aléman is the German team. All the German drivers are there and nobody else. This is a decent mix of low- and medium-value drivers. So far this team hasn't changed since I made it, but if a German driver leaves or enters the sport, the change would be made as soon as I knew about it.
Mwhahaha.. I have made a james allen video for China.
where?
Uploading to drop.io now
Further to the above, LCM Barato has lost Glock because he became too expensive. It has gained both Nakajima and Kubica, meaning it has seven drivers (including the Force India drivers, Toro Rosso duo and Piquet Jr) and $1.4m of change.
LCM Caro remains unchanged with Hamilton, Button and $9.6m of change.
Mine are really just drivers I like, I just got lucky with the Brawns and I have a soft spot for Vettel anyway. my Pitlanefanatic team is down in 344th LOL or 2 thousand and something in the overall league
We're happy that you chose the right team to put in SPC. :D
And here it is. This is 99% what James Allen will do for his next video, based on that creepy Malaysia video, I'm sure of it :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/chinajames-wmv
Lukeh, you are an absolute star, thats brilliant :D :D :D
:D :D :D :D awesome!
My best team (LCM Dragons, thankfully) is 475th overall. My worst one (LCM Caro) just dropped out of the overall top 4000.
haha. The "bye" at the end is a little creepy... :P
:D
Mission accomplished!
247th on FR... *sigh*
New target is to beat 'me'.
That was spot on!
Boooo! I've dropped 3 pages to 214th! :(
Yes, pages, not places.
I dropped 2 pages myself. :)
NO! CHRISTINE's BEATING ME :(
She's beating most people. ;)
She's 12th!
but i was 3rd last week, and she was like 20th.
now she's 12th and im 20th :( pah
If I'm falling at this rate, I'll never get near the top :(
She is the Brawn of Fantasy Racers. :D
Loads of racing to go though.
Looks like Kimi is trying to hide the hat under his hood - http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/45678385-kubica-raikkonen466-jpg
But to be fair, the teams with 6 drivers, mainly the ones who are doing well, are scoring more points which means those who didn't capitalise on it are at a disadvantage regardless.
Here's my review of the race.
Safety car boring. "If we start racing the track will dry" (Alonso).
Some exciting stuff
Oh no for Sutil (and again, that's my fault)
Hurrah for Vettel and Webber
By the way, posting from work - everything is OK here.
But it's a Sunday!
I work in a shop. Plus it's my lunch break !!
My FR team positions:
Zero Downforce - 214th
Dumbo Flugel'd Kung Fu Marmots - 230th
Woodwiss Engineering - 323rd
Relentless Racing - 331st
Team Aviva - 360th
I suck :(
The problem is I can only afford 4 drivers at most if I want to stand a chance of doing well, which is annoying when everyone who's doing well has 5 or 6.
Thats because we boughts lots at the beginning, it's tough now for people who haven't bought the Brawns/Williams/Toyotas/RedBulls at the beginning
Exactly. Oh why didn't I remember to get Jenson and Rubens?! :(
I bought the Brawns, Toyota's, Rosberg because they did so well in oz Practice and then Sutil for some extra points
Hmm, what is there to do for 6 hours until the debrief and panel? LOL
Does your life consist of burning time between podcasts? :P
Write on your blog?
Ooh good one. Thanks.
I'm playing New Star Grand prix. it's fantastic fun!
I'm back home again where I have modern internet and 20thC TV. At Dad's it is the other way around.
In my case the ton of homework I didn't do Friday, followed by downloading the race on iPlayer to blog-note it because I joined late this morning. I was an hour out and switched the TV on as the SC pulled in - and just now the replay started when I did!
sleep! that's what I should be doing, instead I'm watching tennis
Think I'll also update my Super Season Grid. The spreadsheet I do it on is on my dad's laptop, so I've just texted him to e-mail it to me.
Thoughts on this piece of news? No GMM signage, but it's from PF1.
'McLaren mechanics furious with Hamilton'
That was brilliant!
Made some FR changes, before the prices really jack up. I've dropped Trulli for Vettel - stupid me for not doing it before this weekend. Oh well.
I'll probably let go of Rosberg at some point to replace him with Trulli, Glock, or Webber - I'll have whichever 1 does best of the 4.
I've done the same :)
Well, I'll have any combination of those 5 - the 4 above and Kubica.
Who would've thought - 3 races in and Kubica with 0 points? He's not a happy bunny right now, that's for sure.
He'll be saying "I told you so!" to Doc Mario after last year's dropoff.
He looked promising in the first race, didn't he? I think i put him in FR after that. woops. Italian newspaper has a forum called "3 races 0 points". funny :)
That is utter, utter genius.
yup - but then you could say that was due to good strategy. he had bad luck in malaysia and bad pace here.
which creepy video? i think i missed something (not unusual)
...and it would have been the right decision - neither driver is really get much out of the 009 car!
Too think I swapped Webber for Kubica in my disaster of a Fantasy Racers!
I made my changes straight after the race:
DFKFM: Button, Webber, Rosberg, Barrichello
Woodwiss Engineering: Button, Barrichello, Vettel, Buemi
Team Aviva: Sutil, Button Barrichello, Vettel
Relentless Racing: Sutil, Button, Webber, Barrichello
Zero Downforce: Button, Webber, Barrichello, Vettel
What about Ferrari? They're still behind Force India despite the latter only having 16th and 18th this time out...
@thefifthdriver on twitter: What a fantastic race! Heikki drove flawlessly. Lewis not too pleased with fifth. But some good points on the board. Here's to Bahrain!
Lewis must be even more unhappy considering he didn't come fifth.
Webber was the one with the good luck for once, eh? ;)
nice :)
Massa would probably have been 5th had his electrics not died. Sutil would probably have been 6th had it not been for his error.
this one.
thanks. opening the horror now...
umm. yeah, odd. not much more to say, except the parody was perfect :)
I have surprised myself by liking his blog page, but these video dairies are pretentious and awful.
i think ferrari, mclaren, and bmw are no longer in contention for the title. i think the champion will come from brawn, red bull, or toyota.
does anyone disagree with this assessment?
Anyone seen the GP on the iplayer? it starts with the race?! theres no build up at all, and its not highlights!! when you first click on it it says 3hrs 10 minutes, but not its changed to 2hrs 15th :(
likewise. i love his blog. now i'm watching murrayisms on youtube
I don't. Even if the big guys catch up the others will have too many points!
Exactly. Not to mention their cars are nowhere near the pace being set at the front right now.
right nap time, i shall be back for live-ness, maybe. I might also turn off the alarm and go back to sleep.
I think it is a bit early to say. Despite what is being said (people & press) the Macca is progressing with it KERS - but there may be unhappiness between crew and Lewis - he real sold Dave out - there was no sharing of responsability. I think BMW-Sauber and Ferrari are in real difficulty though. If Robert does not score in the next two races I suspect he will rather give up leaving Nick with the task of developing the car (Nick does not give up). Statements Kimi is making will not help morale at Ferrari. Whatever the press and others say about Fernando he does not give up and is a real champion.
Custom Australian GP DVD creation - total failure...
Plays ok on the PC, but standalone players go nuts.
Hmmm. Going to have to break out Adobe Premier and have a fiddle before encoding to dvd.
McLaren are in the best position now to mount a comeback - but if the mechanics disenchantment story is true, Lewis is in trouble. Ferrari needs no explaination. BMW has the knowhow and the process to do it, but this is the first time they've had to play real catchup with the frontrunners.
ah :( i wonder why... i re watched the australian GP with build up on the iplayer... erm.. maybe leave a comment on Jake's blog? or email the bbc f1 dept. i'm sure they probably meant to put the build up online.
Ferrari use rFactor now?
http://www.ferrari.com/English/Ferrari_TV/Pages/FerrariTVPlayer.aspx?serverId=2846&c=Video&cat=13
Can't find my Adobe Premier Pro dvd....
I've put it somewhere safe. Damn.
Adobe's download dite is impressively fast though. 1600kB/s
BMW Sauber usually start a season strongly and decline as it progresses - not a terribly positive history. I think their success is going to rest with Nick's feedback and professionalism if they are to claw back.
F1 Minute is finally complete, having had to time it around Mr C's coughing fits and a car alarm.
http://www.f1minute.com/2009/04/19/19-apr-09-red-bull-take-maiden-win-in-wet-china/
Who else is impressed with de Swisseb (affectionately known as potato head)? Specifically comparing him to his team mate.
Agreed - they usually don't do it the other way round. And Kubica, like Kimi, is losing motivation with each passing race...
Count me in! He has more or less ended Bourdais' F1 career, and could end Webber's too - I think that, assuming he keeps this up, he'll move up to the A-team once Webber's contract expires.
Hmm... looks that way - we know the Donington video was shot in rFactor.
We should do our own video using a sidepodcast livieried car and own own comments!
Cheers Steven,
I also recommend it...what a driver and what a man Jim Clark was.
I can't wait for Bahrain, it will be the first race of the season where we don't have rain or light issues.
Unless we have a sandstorm. ;)
we have the heat though... honda always used to have problems with making sure the engine and i think gear box was lubricated properly.. should be interesting...
Could well be, which is why I am hoping Mark has a good season, he is not much slower than the Wunderkid! Although a Brawn supporter I am hugely pleased that Red Bull have finally won a GP.
Listening to Vettel's 2008 song - Steve McQueen by The Automatic.
Is Vettel F1's teenage Steve McQueen?
Agreed. If we see Vettel v Button for the Championship, that would be absolutely brilliant! :D
Would like to see Nico mount some sort of challenge as well.
Ahh what a lovely day :) Currently sitting out the back garden , blue skies and sunshine, with a bowl of ice cream. yummy :D
It's possible, but unlikely. He hasn't made hay while they were at the front. And Williams is now slowly starting to slip to that congested midfield.
Nico has to show he can win first!
China has done me no favours withregards to Fantasy Racers.
I am currently 289th .
Sat in the lounge watching the replay with the 5 live commentary on.
Didn't know that the replay had the audio options on it as well. Nicely done BBC
I really want to hear something about how rubens felt about China. After how down and disappointed he seemed after Malaysia and the discussion we had in the pub between a few of us concerning Rubens I just want to see how his mindset is...
Do they have the onboard options too?
Williams are the weakest of the diffuser teams by a fair way it seems. Toyota are definately stronger than them.
Am now downloading the Jim Clark docu. Took a look at the JYS one, but it seems they just reused most of the material from his autobio, so I passed on it.
Agreed - more wishful thinking.
Can you make a montage out of it?
How can you download it? I wish it was available here to download/watch.
[redacted], as always.
You are right but possibly when he gets his first win it will change things.
You should PM stuff like that - especially as the site is now invite only!
But we don't have PM... Besides, I didn't give the URL.
Use the wiki PM system?
He won't win if his car isn't developed enough, though. But assuming Nico leaves Williams after this season, where will he go? Maybe McLaren? Maybe BMW?
Oh, yeaaaah. Oh well, too late for that. I'll remember it next time. :)
We said that about Jenson and it still took him 2 and a half years to see the benefit. Also Kovy ain't too hot after winning last year and neither is Kubica...
Unless uber rich in SA you can only follow F1 via blogs and live-timings. Bandwidth is horrendously expensive about 10 GB Pounds per Gigabyte and 10 000 GB p/a salary is typical for a university lecturer. Service providers use proxy servers and most exclude torrents.
Agreed on all counts. It seems to have worked on Vettel, though. ;) It's more about the car under you than your own motivation going up after getting that first win.
I remember Ron saying, "Welcome to the world of winning, Heikki." Maybe he just stayed there for a day then went back home? ;)
Is it not on TV there?
Sounds roughly the same to our rates. Still, it's fast enough for my needs.
BBC4 sure isn't. ;)
There are drivers that need that first win to become a winner, and there are some drivers who need something more...
And the BBC channels that are available show news, old shows or cooking programmes :-(
I meant live coverage though!
Something more being a fast car?
We have BBC World News. Does that count? ;)
Yes on pay channel - even more expensive than bandwidth, certainly more than I can afford.
Their heads need to be in order!
:-(
Isn't Kovi's head in order? ;)
Yes. It counts down before every bulletin!
they took my BBC away :( i did miss that countdown...
Lets be honest, few drivers can win these day with a car that is not one of the three fastest on that specific circuit.
I like their countdown, actually. ;)
Never fear, Bill Bailey is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW23wpE4AOw
:-D
Thanks :)
Good ol' Bill Bailey. He's great sometimes.
Just seen fantasy racers, down to 330th, one place ahead of one of Woodwiss' teams.
Why is everyone I pick end up useless?
"The RG Curse"? :P
But seriously, perhaps it's a case of bad luck. And using heart over head?
Fisichella? I don't like Fisichella. The only two I choose cos I like em are Heidfeld and Glock, who on a good weekend should be good. I mean Rosberg and Trulli should do well as well.
I'm 419th!! I've just made some drastic changes to rectify the situation, and if that fails I may have to make more teams.
I'll stop moaning. Going for Raikkonen to pick up my 'lap' points
I am paying the price for being loyal to Kubica, Rosberg and Alonso! Problem is I do not have the money to swap them out.
I did have Button, Rosberg, Heidfeld and Alonso.
I now have Button, Glock, Buemi and Sutil. Bring on Bahrain!
Me too! I wanted to keep a Williams driver in no matter what, but sod that, I'm losing.
Buy low, sell high, right? I guess that didn't turn out so well?
Should I let go of Rosberg for Webber? I'm thinking Nico still has a few good results under him.
I'll keep Nico for next weekend. Surely he'll do better in the dry?
ahem, I may have gone insane.
Glock, Heidfeld (automatic picks), Raikkonen, Nakajima, Buemi and Vettel
Tough choice - both will yo-yo through the seasons!
Sorry that's not right, it was Kubica I had not Heidfeld
Vettel and Glock should be good, otherwise, this is a banzai lineup - all or nothing!
That's the plan
I have kept them since the first race - will not trade them either as they together with Jenson are my current favourite drivers.
The Red Bull cars have been more consistently fast - better be fast as Webber's price is increasing and Rosberg's decreasing!
I've made an impulsive move.
Let go of Rosberg and Kubica for Webber and Buemi. Here goes nothing.
I don't think the driver values have stabilised yet - have they been updated post china yet?
that's not a bad shout actually, could be some real ground to be made up with those ones
yes, they've been updated at least twice as far as i can tell. i had to go for webber now - his price is only going to get higher.
Fingers crossed. xx
I'm pretty sure I won't regret letting go of Nico, but Robert... it may come back to haunt me, depending on how he does over the next few races.
http://fantasyracers.com/game/drivervalues.php
biggest changes
Trulli -0.9
Rosberg -0.8
Webber +1.1
Vettel +1.2
Look at button compared to the beginning of the series. thats phonomenal
Yes, quite stunning. Very happy I got him and Rubens right at the start - it's keeping me in the upper pages, for sure. :)
Me too :D
Watching Clark docu, BRB.
By the way, anyone else noticed that Brawns have been complaining about getting heat into their tyres more than any other team....if my memory serves me correctly that was a problem that honda had too....
I think that is a good combo. I have decided the more I meddle the worse my team does.
Just doing some FR stats now. What do you guys want to see?
The drivers i need to win the championship would be nice? If you have that sort of information?
I'm not Mystic Meg you know!
Pah :D
On that note, where is a good place where I can find stats on the race?
Urm... spam on the drop.io that'll need clearing up..
Not sure, other than the Autosport.com stats in the subscription section.
Not another budgie smuggler is it???
Umm...not quite
You could say this. Like, completely.
i thought the issue was they were massively mismanaged by a board in japan who were clueless as to the art of racing?
well yeah that too
Hahahahaha!
Lukeh, how did you make that video?
10 minutes of searching formula1.com and windows movie maker.

LOL
Am commenting outside in the sunshine in our garden. Tis lovely blue skies here :)
Not only down there my friend, had a football game in bloomin good sunshine. Pity the pitch was as hard as concrete, but cant have everything. Lovely day it has been
Booo!
It's nice in Denmark too ...)
I've created a second team for fantasy racers, an all German team :D
For the Spanish GP I'm tempted to create a team and put the McLaren and Ferrari drivers in considering thats when both teams hope their seasons will get a kick start.
Boooooooooooooooooooooo!
I take it the research question for tonight's panel is something like do your own version of James Allen's video.
He's asked you to watch it, so I dunno.
I was just bored. :P if it is then that's mere coincedence.
it seems to be a problem in the wet, but not in the dry. mind you, honda's best performance last year was in the wet.
if you were to ask me, it's a minor problem that can be resolved with some aero updates. but i think it won't be so much of a factor for most other races during the season.
They have a sidepod update for Barcelona IIRC ... so at least we know they are still developing the car :-)
they will develop the car, for sure. ross won't let them stand still.
BTW, remember it was reported before that branson would be in china? he wasn't here, was he? any idea when he'll show up next? and if there's any progress on the virgin sponsorship upgrade?
It's all gone quiet... 'ow queer!
Wasn't there talk of the sponsorship being initially for the 1st three races before a proper deal would be thrashed out?
Don't think it has anything to do with the scuffle between Button and Branson when the latter was checking out the former's GF in a drunken state, do you?
If that was true, then the media outlets said it happened before the Australian GP.
News link? (and please not the sun or similar!)
If he was a proper businessman it'd shouldn't be a factor
no. if there wasn't going to be a deal Brawn would take the virgin stickers off the car and drivers visors.
Cos that wouldn't make it news
I also read in the story in the papers that it had damaged the deal but they were claiming it was all patched up and forgotten about.
When it was being reported I read it in The News of the World hence why I found it very very dubious. Plus like I said, before Aussie GP, so it wouldn't have affected things.
Wasn't it on the eve of the race that it happened?
no kidding. sounds 110% BS to me.
Think I read that story from a GMM source...
has there been any post race penalties? has there been any weekend penalties at all?
No. Oddly, were the FIA actually there?
Scanning the news sites now and not seeing anything
this is such a non-story, it's like the opposite of the never-ending story.
My sleep and my man flu are penalising me - else, I can't think of any!
Interesting, Ferrari thinking of doing a Brawn
Ferrari not ruling out writing off '09
"Speaking at Shanghai on Sunday night, Domenicali refused to rule out the possibility of the team abandoning the development push on its 2009 car if matters do not improve when a double-decker diffuser version of its F60 is raced for the first time at the Spanish Grand Prix."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74644
hehe :)
There's an FIA media centre web page somewhere which will show them.
*scratches head*
so many negatives in one sentence
i believe the original press release stated that Virgin were going into partnership starting from the Australian GP. It doesn't actually state that it was only for a few races. It was believed that this original deal was only for the first few races, but that was only because it was finalised at such short notice and it's possible Branson may wish to increase it. It's a pretty safe bet to assume Virgin will be sponsoring Brawn this season and possibly in the future but the final sponsorship details are most likely being negotiated and will be revealed soon. Brawn are gaining sponsors though so i shouldn't have thought it would take long for them to announce the virgin sponsorship details if anything changes. I get the impression they don't want to rush Branson into a deal.
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/post_event.aspx
Looks like a mistake was made by playing the British anthem for Red Bull, btw...
iii knew it :)
if it happened then the chances of it affecting any deal with Branson are next to none. If it was going to be a problem Branson would never have gone into the deal in the first place. If he was having doubts i think the teams results would have cleared them from his mind.
Are they not classified as a British team?
[despite Austrian money]
i swear they race as an austrian entry.
Phew, was worried we'd have a f1 weekend without a cock up somewhere.
Can only find references to them having a UK HQ not the stated nationality
Wikipedia (yeah, i know) says they are Austrian
I've been looking around and I can find nothing that says that.
Also found this - http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/ica/2009/Pages/ica_140409.aspx
The appeal for Red Bull was lodged by the OAMTC (Austrian motoring authority.)
http://www.redbullracing.com/Team/Team-Profile/
They are Austrian
Actually, so does their team website
So does this mean they get another go at the podium ceremony with more champaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagne?
Well spotted then Dom
I like Joe Sawards headline
"Bull in Red China shock!!!"
has there been any post race penalties? has there been any weekend penalties at all? {Comment #303}
Wonderfully, no! I'm sure someone would have noticed if there had been no stewards - good to see the FIA keep out of something when it didn't need to be involved :)
wow!
Normal service continues. ;)
Shows kicking off around 7 tonight?
ish.
That bit's a given :)
Only if you're feeling better.
Dose up on Lemsip! The blackcurrant one seems to work better than the lemon one even though I'm sure they are identical.
By the way while I was at dad's earlier I watched most of the race with Croftie and Ant commentating. It was better. I'm gonna watch it again with Legard and Brundle.
We wanted to do that but the red button wasn't working at Sidepodcast Towers today. I wouldn't bother with the Legard bit :)
Legard was really annoying me towards the end of that race. I didn't notice on the first two races quite as much, but this time...
I'm not sure if iPlayer gives me a choice...
He was just talking for the sake of it at times, dead air would've been better
Don't think it does
Ah, no. Boo. Perhaps we should get Mr C to invent some kind of filter to block out the sounds of people we don't like :)
They still have the 5live commentary on iPlayer though, right?
Add it to the list?
:-D
How about you get two different tabs open, one the race and the other 5Live, try and get them to be starting at the same time and play together.
Put it on the list ;)
He's already got me trying to click a comment in TwitterFox to quote it. I have to remember to just reply.
Just to avoid scary commentator man. ;)
That sounds.... difficult
i listened to Croftie and Ant for most of the race and even the beginning under the safety car was interesting :)
I'm only watching again for blogging purposes - maybe in the notes I could complain about him endlessly.
Are we going to have an audio only panel tonight so everyone can listen without the dreaded 'b' word?
And Vettel wl.............
.....
....
.....
...........
ins
(don't make me start missing James Allen ;)
Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase
I don't think it's technically possible sadly. Sounds weird to say of ccurse... But I think there wasn't a way to upload audio to justin.tv it has to be video.
Am pretty sure we went audio only for a bit on the show I was on, Season 2, Episode 1
If not, then someone HAS to host the call, I'll volunteer if required
Mr C will be back any second to answer any and all technical questions.
..after these short messages :)
Your questions are very important to us.
You are currently... 14th... in the queue
Putting you through now, caller.
tis true. audio only streaming services aren't popular, and trying to do half a live show as video and another as audio means tons of extra work for me post show.
:D
So, what about call hosting instead?
I've got something else for the list.
Ooh, go on.
Can Mr C invent something that reminds me the kettle has boiled when I'm sat in the other room? I forget.
sure, tis by me. are ya offering?
it needs to be hooked up to twitter.
I will add that to the list.
Okay, never mind.
And GRID players out there, 20 minutes left to enter your time on the wiki. Lukeh is still top and I know I sure as hell can't beat him.
Before I forget...
China Digest Review
Every thing that could go wrong with my favourite teams did, BMW had a lot of bad luck with Kubica crashing into Trulli. Heidfeld also running into debris after being close to the points. Timo Glock was good though, so am pleased for him. Well done to Red Bull and Vettel, maybe the FIA should make sure which nationality the teams are from before they play the anthem though.
Dare I do a Massa and get out the car and relax thinking everythings fine? :P
That's as fast as I can go...
A whistling kettle for the stove would do it
Aye
ace. thanks you.
But... but... that doesn't use Twitter?
Well I'm already doing a Kimi and giving up with an ice cream.
But the noise does sound a bit like a long tweet
I'd prefer it to text me.
RTL had their 300th GP today and they showed some special material. Interested?
Do you want to choose next weeks challenge?
What about a webcam aimed at the kettle that you could live stream and watch on your iPhone?
Sure, I'll take a look after this match
Piquet to keep his job
Oh wait... your talking about games
but... it's erm... a kettle...maybe get one of those kettles that only takes a few seconds to boil the water?
You don't want to be dealing with boiling and buffering at the same time.
Cool. I'll update the wiki at 6.00 and leave the challenge blank for you to fill in.
:)
I like pressing the button and walking away to do something else, then coming back to it - except I get distracted and by the time I've remembered I wanted a cup of tea the water is cold.
I don't have an iPhone :-(
BUt I have to warn you, Germans television is very very strange.
The first two are up already
ahh, in that case you want a wife.
Ohhh, you didn't.
Try starting the kettle, prep the cup, tea bag, milk and sugar
If you boil just enough for one cupful, it should be nearly ready!
He's not having a good week is he!
Remeber those things that sound good in your head, most of the time they end up looking really bad for you when said
Where's that then? Sounds like it could be a small village in the West Country.
Vettel could be a strong contender
noted. ta.
I am amazed by him because his GP2 record was not great.
sidepodpoet
Comes under the category: Engage brain before using mouth [or keyboard, in this case]
Come Brazil, 3 drivers will be in the hunt. Button leading Vettel and Glock. Glock doesn't do well enough.
Come Abu Dhabi, Button leads Vettel, usual annual last lap drama, i dont know, Vettel overtakes Button on the last corner, then loses it and spins into Button, crawls over the line in first Button, finishes fourth. Stewards are already on holiday, so nothing happens.
I could be less impatient. Or get Lou's kettle.
Does everyone volunteering for the panel have skype
can you wait 20 seconds?
http://www.quickcup.co.uk/
This http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/schumachers-mpg
is very odd. Kathy was right
I know someone with one of those - the water isn't hot enough. Maybe there is a setting.
I am :-)
I do :-D
There's already a thing which allows plants to twitter you when they need watering: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/02/how_to_make_plants_talk_t.html
Sidepodpanel intro!
Indeed, and you lot get to hear me much more clearly thanks to the powah of my new headset mic! :D (even though I've had it for about 2 and a half weeks now)
Yes (I do I mean - I don't know about others)
I am (not overly) happy to announce that the winner of the fist sidepodcast GRID laptime challenge at the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit is Lukeh, with a time of 1'23.92.
Feel free to have your own podium ceremony, though you will need to provide your own trophy and champagne.
The teams that over-use their tyres in hot conditions can keep them up to temp on days like today where teams that use them ideally in hot dry conditions won't be able to get temperature into them when it is cold and wet.
The other thing to remember today when comparing teams and drivers is we don't know what set up anyone had. Yesterday Lewis's suspension was so stiff that his car was lifting its inside front wheel In the wet you want a soft suspension not a ridiculously stiff one. It may be that some people gambled on rain and set their cars up softly and others predicted dry conditions and set up accordingly.
Under Max's regime where the set up is locked in 24 hours ahead of time it can be difficult to decide if a car driver is good or the team just guessed the weather right.
'Tis too!
Break out that Scottish anthem.
huh!!
Sounds good!
Scandal! Sue the buggers! ;)
Mr C have you seen this: http://www.shoooes.net/
i'm not going to be able to hear the sidepodpanel intro without thinking of schumi now :(
ummm?
Oh no!
Ah I'm just thinking... I don't think it was you I was talking to about this... Scratch that.
(I was talking to somebody about programing languages for kids. But... now for the life of me I can't remember who it was)
i've had that feeling a lot this week...
I blame Bassano ;)
i do. and lou and steven.
We certainly are sharing the blame this week, aren't we? ;)
In that order :)
And Bernie?
Something for the kids
http://www.francoandformulafun.com/
ahh yes.
That's a given.
Looks like Touring Cars at Long Beach for the lap challenge this week then!
:D lol, i think i missed the beginning of the actual conversation you had about blaming me for stuff at the meet up.. i just heard 'i blame lou, and the bit after that' ...i was wondering if there was an actual reason for it? or just something you realised :D :D
i didn't hear the beginning either.
...actually, i don't remember the beginning, i may have heard it.
For the live commenting idea
ooh right.
Right, be back in a bit, just gonna have dinner. Mmm, curry! :D
haha i'm really looking forward to the podcast tonight :D
Don't worry, I've already forgotten all about you ;-)
Mr C/ Mrs C not sure if you noticed but Luke seems to be having problems commenting.
http://twitter.com/lukehmuse/status/1559067323
At least those cars are a bit more drivable!
Has he tried switching it off and on again?
ooh. anyone else having issues?
Right, I have some FR spreadsheets ready. I'll drop.io them now. Is it OK to do so as excel files or is it better in another format?
i'm not. but if they were how could they reply?...
In fact, the conclusion was
It's Lou's fault that it's Steven Roy's fault
excel is great.
i mean, as a microsoft product, obviously it's horrible. but as a drop.io format... great.
ooh yeah, that i remember. :D i think i was too far away when the you lot were discussing the live commenting which is why i didn't hear that bit :)
No, it sucks - but I'll upload them anyway. There's some stuff that's a bit rough but I want you guys to give me feedback for future graphs/calculations.
I'd like to do this stuff for the races too if someone can tell me where I can get free data...
nice disclaimer.
What sort of data?
No. Used the lclt to catch up on comments and now using the desktop doohickey
err, race data I mean.
Oh! I forgot to catch up on comments.
This week isn't doing my memory any favours. I think I need the routine of work, as much as I despise it.
clickety clickety clickety if I click this damn post comment button one more time I'm gonna exploooooooooooooode :(:(:(:(
grrrr!!
...oh it worked.
hahahahaha
Normally if you scream I'LL KILL SOMEONE, it works
Oh that's brilliant :-)
yay!
mediatemple have an issue with opendns affecting a couple of uk users.
Well that was a wierd 20 minutes.
:D hey Lukeh
It was weirder without us??
Welcome back!
*waves* :D
Hellllllllllooooooooooooooooo!
Fastest laps, fuel loads, pit stop times, changes in position, overtakes, that sort of thing...)
BAT Racer? ;)
I think it was Bassano who posted the link to the FIA site earlier.
It has qualifying weights, a lapchart and classifications:
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/on_event.aspx
More timing goodness:
http://www.fia.com/EN-GB/MEDIACENTRE/F1_MEDIA/Pages/timing.aspx
That and the other one are exactly what I need. I shall stat it later!
I was thinking about bringing back my points graphs for the blog, if you remember those from the other place a few years back.
OK, here's the file:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/fr-stats-rd3-china-xls
Please give me feedback on what you guys want out of it - some of it is a bit rough...
Interesting to note that on average, the drivers have lost 0.2 million in value - and the value of the driver closely corresponds with the amount of people choosing him and the points he scores :-)
I can help you with that if necessary ...)
Ta but half the fun is doing it yourself :-)
As long as I start it soon and don't fall behind, that is.
I'm not bottom of the fantasy racers league! Yay.
I just made the mistake of texting the guy who gives me a lift to work who is a Man U fan. Looks like I'm walking tomorrow.
Shortest post ever!
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/19/live-this-better-go-as-well-as-the-park/
Video will be embedded shortly.
Heh :P
Someone's really upset at me because I told them that everton deserved to be in the final and that im really pleased for them. Apparently i'm a disgrace to manchester utd fans now which is making me laugh, he even put in his msn name 'SOME fans don't deserve to watch football' :D
I love when they get beat after grumpy has been mouthing off
Haha, nice name.
Aaand this is one reason I don't watch football.
I've never cheered as much as when Berbatov missed that penalty.
My Man U colleague is one of the most humble fans I have ever met - he really doesn't take any of it for granted and he genuinely cherises each success as if it was earned, not a divine right. I think a lot of people could learn from him...
Mr & Mrs C, I just sent you an email - hope you like it ;-)
A rare breed
Which is interestingly the cost of swapping.
Must be the credit crunch ...)
Fergie did a good impression of most utd fans right now during the game though.
http://i44.tinypic.com/21o4rjs.jpg
I say 7:16...
Welcome to 1981... Ferarri still out of the points
hahaha! :D
Does this mean i get a point?
Apologies for change of subject (have taken it back to daily to make sure) but can someone explain difference between a grandstand roving/general admission ticket? I guess the first allows you to sit in grandstands but I've no idea... :P
Apologies if it's a simple answer, but I'm a simple person. I just want to go in! ;)
what type of meeting are we talking about?
http://scoring.indycar.com/flash/ is pretty flash, I must say. Take note Bernie.
Grandstand roving means you can sit where you like in the grandstands on FP day and quali .. General admission you park your bum on any vacant bit of grass
No idea, i don't think a general meetup has been organised just yet, just suggested. I'm just looking at buying tickets to go now anyways.
nonono, a meeting, as in, Club Motrsport, F1, etc etc.
generally general admission means you can go everywhere except the pits (unless tis a club meeting) but not hte grandstand, grandstand roving means general admission plus any grandstand you want, you can keep moving
well there we go. Goodwood tickets ordered :)
eeek! yay! i need to order mine soon. :D just need to have a little chat with my parents first :D
I'm seriously considering Goodwood, except (blatant name drop) I'm seeing Blur in London the week before.
I've gotta keep a bit of money for when Muse announce their UK tour in the autumn... and I want to try and go to at least 3 gigs... so im keeping an eye on that now. My student loan is going towards such educational purposes!
Quite right too!
I think you need to learn how the computers control the lighting effects.
go to goodwood, it's awesome :D
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/9963/dsc00379d.jpg
Same time, but easier to view . :P
I went in 2002 and 2003. :-)
It has been far too long. Have to see if/how it has changed.
Goodwood 2002 was the first time I'd seen an F1 car as anything other than a static display. Blown away.
G'Day everybody!
Have never seen an f1 in motion in person so im excited for goodwood :D
Hi Sean
Ooh goodie :-)
I'm honestly tempted to go in order to see the expression on your face.
Although I've seen f1 and motorsport cars before like in the Beaulie (sp?) motorsport centre in cornwall.. or hampshire I think... 6 years ago or so that was an incredible place :)
I went back in 2003 with Dad and a friend. Dad watches casually, mate doesn't really care but was along for the ride. Neither could believe the volume or the vibration in the chest...
How much are the tickets?
?!
christ... im aware im seeming very naive when i say this but goddamn!
£108 for general admission all weekend
Blimey. Hmm.
To say more would spoil it.
I'm off now. Back to normal tomorrow with school and such. Good times.
Keep working on the Grid times. :P
Night.
I only did single days. One was a Saturday, one was a Sunday. One day wasn't enough then and I assume it is bigger now. Actually I know it is because the rally stage didn't exist.
Bye Joe. I'm going as well. Getting up for work is going to be hard after a week + Easter off.
night pat, and joe :)
the first time you hear and see one is something you will never forget :D
ok i'm going to retire from the comments for this evening, due to the fact i'm worried i have quiet a high total number of comments and it's worrying me. So, i need to make sure i make longer and more worth while comments in the future and used lclt to comment and doohickey to follow conversations. night to anyone who is still around! x
Night Lou
