What a brilliant qualifying we have just witnessed. I don't know about anyone else, but I wasn't expecting great things from China, and all things considered it looks like it's going to be a good race. Here are some of the things that will keep us chatting today:
- Red Bull pick up their first pole position, with Vettel edging out Alonso and Webber to take the top spot. The team were amazingly fast throughout the weekend, but with a surprise in Alonso, I can't wait to see the fuel weights. Forget that business about discussing strategy, I want the facts!
- The teams are ditching KERS so fast that I almost can't keep up. Overnight, Renault removed all trace of their device, which obviously helped Alonso today. Kubica also decided it wasn't for him. It's not looking good for the technology, is it?
- John Howett has admitted that the board at Toyota aren't happy with just being a bit faster, they want a win. It's not looking likely this weekend, with electrical problems on Friday, and a gearbox issue on Saturday. Glock barely made it into Q2, and gets a five place grid drop whilst Trulli ended up 6th. It could happen, but it's unlikely in China.
All things considered, I'm really happy that the racing is competitive and Brawn aren't running away with the wins. Fingers crossed we get some good racing tomorrow. Don't forget to leave your summaries for the Digest, and I'll see you in the comments.
Go Lewis!
Its a bit early to say that Brawn aren't running away with the wins. Great to see some serious competition from Red Bull. Go Mark!
Agreed, the trouble is you are as good as the last race. The Maccas and Heidfeld now the only one with KERS
I'll do it so I don't have to remember.
China Qualifying Review (Why am I so tempted to write Malaysia?)
Qualifying. That was some pretty awesome stuff, finally Brawn seem to have been caught up with by Red Bull. Well done Vettel and well done Alonso for making the best out of an awful car. Kubica, ahhhh, just ahhhhh. So, so, bad.
(Comment subject to the inevitable stewards inquiry)
Cause we never finished the race? ;)
So true ;)
Track still designed by Tilke so feels the same
Sepang and Shanghai are way to similar.
My summary of qualifying
And I thought Australia's session was good! This one was sensational and full of action. Vettel gambled and won, Alonso did the seemingly impossible, Webber absolutely flew, Barrichello put one over on his teammate and Button now looks a bit worried. The big surprise of the day has to be Fernando, but without KERS will his start be as spectacular has his Malaysian effort? But right now, Vettel, Webber and the RB5 are proving Red Bull truly does have wings and when they use them, they fly!
Is that short enough to be read out entirely this time? :D
Don't forget about ze SwissSeb getting 10th!
Hmmmn is kers useless or are the regulations on kers making it useless?
There are more powerful kers systems on the market but F1 regulation appears to make the current 80hp(over 7.5sec) look like a big enough advantage... when it's not.
On a secondary note, why are there no wings(I don't mean huge wings... more like flaps) over the sidepods/exhaust on any f1 car I know fins are banned but wings?
Hold on a minute. Button said that if you expect to be 1st and then come 2nd or 3rd and are disappointed, you're in the wrong mindset to be a driver. So what's this all about then, Jenson? Hmmm?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74578
All the flip up thingys were banned too
It all helps - needs a bigger boost for longer to be worthwhile though.
It's an aerodynamic device - therfor banned.
Essentially the only wings are allowed are the front and rear wings and a couple of small area that are badly regulated.
It's meant to be going up to around 160hp over the next 3 years.
I'm going to start counting how many times Mark Webber gets the adjective "Australia's" in front of it on our broadcast. So far, twice that I've picked up.
i think he meant during a race ;) but i don't think he was as disappointed as i've seen some drivers after not getting pole, he just knows it's going to be a bit more difficult now. Then again it's still going to be easier than it would have been last year ;)
Quite right. It should be "Queabeyan's" !!
another reason why Canberra should get ONE HD? Close enough to be considered the home of "Australia's Mark Webber"?
LOL. You would think
Just at the moment, there is probably not sufficient advantage. Hence why both Renault and Ferrari have dumped them. The reliability issue is worrying to the teams. Despite what others say Macca is still using KERS and Lewis is close so I think they will turn it around this season to become advantageous. BMW Sauber seem to have lost the plot with the 09 design.
Shame they did'nt give them more reason (power) to run it this year.
Even with present power limit it is signigicant in race situations, especially Lewis. By Spain Macca and Lewis will be right up there. Not sure about BMW Sauber though. All of the teams still have KERS in some form of development.
Want to read something funny go along to Joe's blog posting entitled "blowing in the wind" - an interview with Superflav

I notice on the wiki that a few people have various F1 games, like 2004, 2006 and so on. I'd quite fancy a China laptime challenge if anyone else would join.
Might have said that last year?
Now that I can join. 2006?
he said it this year.. Malaysia i think.
Trouble ahead for FOTA?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/f1mole/2009/04/one-of-the-biggest-topics.html#more
The article deals more with Ferrari and McLaren's slump this year. But I felt this needed highlighting, mind you it is just Briatore.
Yeah sure mate, I don't mind myself. I can do 97, 99, 2000 and then 2002-2006, so whichever :P
Though I was quietly hoping for 2004 ;)
Even I have to admit that that idea is crazy, and not a good crazy.
04 is still good.
Eh, if you have both, you choose.
Sounds like a good idea.
rFactor?
Dunno about everyone else, but I don't have rFactor.
You can do that though with others if they have it, I think Luke has rFactor.
Just trying to get people on the same game.
If the race finishes as they qualified, it will be an all Renault powered podium. Wow, never thought that would happen.
Don't have rFactor either. Wouldn't work on my laptop
Same. Shame. :(
Keeping an eye on the weather, it's currently 22 degrees in Shanghai, sunny and mild. Tomorrow looks to be the same temperature but mostly cloudy.
I've just watched the stunning Jackie Stewart film that was on bbc a week or so ago. Amazing documentary/ film.
Is it called 'The Flying Scot'?
yep
Any news about penalties for whichever of the RBR's it was that held up Heikki?
Also - just had my 9th coffee of the day... Toooo much caffeine!! :D
Far far far too much caffeine!
Oooooooohhh.. Ying tong
Ying tong
Ying tong
Ying tong
Ying tong iddle I po!
Just having a look at some of the weather forecasts for the other venues on the calendar to see what locations I need and looking at the Nurburgring, it's showing a rain cloud with "40% chance" above it. Nice touch :)
Just wondering the same thing myself...
Whilst we have the weights wait I was looking to see if we have any news on that at all... and nothing although I haven't seen the Macca quotes either...
Could be that Macca are fighting shy of going to the stewards... if so poor Heikki...
This is on my little Weatherbug gadget on the Windows sidebar
Raikkonen asks for Ferrari to "wake up"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74589
Basically saying "Make this car faster or we'll never get to the front again"
Was Kimi the only one in final qualy on used tyres?...
Thanks for the reminder - got to finalise my plans for the visit to the Nordschleife.
Want to go twice. Once in the Mazda and once in the Lotus *once it's arrived and run in* But November may be to late in the year to really enjoy myself in a new car.
http://www.mclaren.com/latestnews/mclaren-news.php?article=280
They aren't mentioning it at all
Ant Davidson on radio 1 explaining about the diffusers and f1 and stuff. :D
i should say that's now... not in the future... lol :)
The top 3 are all very light, especially Alonso
Can someone help me find a 2009 carset for Grand Prix 3 please? :)
have the weights been released yet?
http://fialive.fiacommunications.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/chn09_weights.pdf
thank you :D
Rubens had more fuel than Jenson but qualified higher :D
Alonso was running super light to get 2nd. He's stopping first, no doubt.
Seems like 2kg doesn't make much of a difference these days. That or Rubens was really, really on it.
F1F are predicting lap 9 which for a 56 lap race is insane. I guess he'll be getting the super soft tyres out of the way quickly.
I just like any excuse to rate Rubens higher than Jenson, he's my preferred Brawn driver :D
I can't even get GP3 to run on any of my machines. :(
Hates multiple core CPU's
Hates 64bit OS
I have no hope. :(
Sounds like a logical choice. I reckon the top 3 are gonna go with the softs and get good starts.
Sorted by position.
Pos Driver Car Weight
1 Vettel Red Bull 644
2 Alonso Renault 637
3 Webber Red Bull 646.5
4 Barrichello Brawn GP 661
5 Button Brawn GP 659
6 Trulli Toyota 664.5
7 Rosberg Williams 650.5
8 Raikkonen Ferrari 673.5
9 Hamilton McLaren 679
10 Buemi Toro Rosso 673
11 Heidfeld BMW 679
12 Kovalainen McLaren 697
13 Massa Ferrari 690
14 Glock Toyota 652
15 Nakajima Williams 682.7
16 Bourdais Toro Rosso 690
17 Piquet Renault 697.9
18 Kubica BMW 659
19 Sutil Force India 648
20 Fisichella Force India 679.5
Wow...they (the red bulls) really are very light.
he did good :) that must make him feel a little better. Although it's not much more fuel so i think it's just enough to mean he'll be stopping after Jenson, either that or found it easier to handle with a bit more weight in :) But it certainly explains why Jenson was expecting to be higher, the red bulls and Alonso are pretty light in comparison. I wouldn't be surprised if Brawn gp thought they would easily get on either of the front 2 rows and so didn't push that hard throughout practice, and then when it got to Q3 realised that the others were unexpectedly fast. should make for an interesting first corner.
Ironic contrast - The Renault drivers are both the lightest and heaviest.
Ferrari, I think, were in more trouble than McLaren but they were able to hide away while McLaren told everyone they were struggling.
Although they won't admit it, 4th or 5th in the constructors and a couple of wins, similar to Renault last year, should be Ferrari's target.
Does that include the driver?
Yep.
I see Lee tweeted that when Rubens got told he qualified ahead of Jenson he thought he was on pole. I bet the reality was a bit of a blow!
Hamilton heavier than expected.
Massa extremely heavy. But he stuffed his Qualifying.
Can Alonso get to the grid with that light fuel load? Will it last the out lap? ;)
Brawns heavier than the Red Bulls, but is it heavy enough to make it pay off?
Rosberg, Glock and Kubica surprisingly light.
Hamilton and Macca do not look to be to bad. The Brawns are obviously well placed. BMW Sauber are looking dismal. The main variable is how long will the supersofts last in the race.
hmmmm
aww he must have been upset when he realised that he wasn't, however it shows they weren't expecting the others to be as fast. but it also shows that the others need to go super light to be faster.
Thanks. I've been waiting for these weights.
I also notice the official FIA transcript of the press conference corrected 'observitating' to observing. I thought the original was far better, and am planning to add it to my vocabulary.
Yeah, thanks for the link Amy. And further to your comment earlier about Onesports HD channel not coming to Canberra. I hear that it will in standard def, but I cannot find it.
No comparison between Ferrari and Macca the latter are making steady improvement - they are better than BMW Sauber as well.
That was rather a sweet moment from VET.
Are Christine and Mr C asleep?
Alonso is on fumes and must be hoping for a good start to get ahead of the pack and hold them up...
It looks like Kimi and Lewis weren't expecting a great result but it may hurt Kimi that the 3 KERS runners are pretty much in a group behind him on the grid on similar fuel...
I am not sure how the extra KERS weight factors in with the fuel and whether the KERS runners have less fuel than we expect... I think I had better look back at the pitstops for Malaysia as a clue...
I recall Kimi had to stop earlier than we expected due to the KERS taking up some of the fuel space...
Amy, do you have a link to the press conf transcript?
i think so, they didn't sleep before FP3 did they? i don't blame them for wanting to catch up on sleep. i would if i didn't have revision and stuff.
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/chn09_conference_sat.pdf
Oh of course. I didn't get to sleep until 3 this morning. Just couldn't doze off.
I know, I was refering to the pre-season build up which towards the end was full of news of McLaren admitting they were struggling. :P
Fuel Loads: Renault had to be going for poll with a fuel load like that surely? It's going to Spain 2008 all over again for Alonso.
Ah, it all makes sense now. ;)
They would have pole if Red Bull weren't on the same strategy too...
The interesting thing about Macca and Ferrrai this race is that Lewis's Macca has a reasonable first stab at a diffuser whilst Ferrari don't...
Also Ferrari have ditched KERS due to safety concerns...
So big differences...
If Ferrari are missing some speed from lacking KERS once they sort the reliability they would be about as far in front of Macca than they had been in Shanghai... and then we need to see their diffuser option...
Barce will be the test n'est pas...
KERS is included in the 605kg minimum. They just remove some of the ballast to get to the 605kg.
Without all the ballast and driver, expect the cars to be around to be 400-450kg mark
So he's going to almost crash at the end of the warmup lap and then have a less than impressive race before his engine fails? ;)
Good point here. I think though Macca have had better race day performance (sorry Lewis has rather better race day) and the team better strategy. Kimi had quite a good qualifying today all else considered.
Neither Macca nor Ferrari should be written off just yet.
Don't say that he is in my Fantasy Team!
Apparently all of Kimi's Q3 was on used tyres as they used the 4 sets in Q1 and Q2...
Not sure how many others in Q3 had done this... I think only Buemi...
The big disappointment of qualy has to be Glock... although I don't think Toyota look as strong here as they did in Shanghai...
Yes but Renault were not to know what Red Bull were running.
Quite possibly. I was refering to running very light aspect :P
I want Alonso and Vettel to do well because they are both in my fantasy team and I have only just joined. :D
On the subject of KERS, I'm choosing not to run it at Monaco. No point because of the nature of the circuit.
As for Alonso... he'd better be careful trying to muscle by Mr Vettel...
Could be useful on the start though!
I'm doing the same but I don't think anything can help my performance anyway :D
Morning all, today i've discovered 2 things.....
Firstly, it seems i've slept through quali, and usually i'd be really annoyed, maybe this is me getting sick of F1 getting messed about so i'm not bothered about watching it live like i used to.
Secondly, i've done badly on batracer again....what concerns me most however is this small sentence...."The perfect setup lies 2 points beyond the capabilities of the car."
oooh goody
well he has Rubens in his Brawn/ tank behind him on the next row of the grid, so he really does need to be careful :) although if Rubens hits anyone i wont be impressed Brawn don't have many spares...
Also I'm going to try a strategy inspired by RBR's stellar qualifying today :D
That is why they are built like a tank. The weakest aspect of the Brawn is their start.
ok we we will prepare for that, thanks for letting us know ;)
I hadn't heard before now about Webber's engine engineer going missing over the winter, that must've been horrible for the RBR and Renault gangs.
How do you know I'm not leading you on? ;)
i thought the weakest part was the gearbox?.. Jenson had an awesome start in Australia though.
Was it not precautionary and only on Rubens car? Both Rubens and Button have had on problem start though
yeah but i swear i read in the comments this morning that Rubens had to change his gear box again
Didn't they say hes onto gearbox 3?
But because he changed it before qualifying, it doesn't give him a penalty, right? Or would you get one regardless of when you change it?
i don't know i wasn't really listening... or watching the comments closely, but yeah it's gearbox number 3 for him...
Let's hope it is rumour only!
erm.... i'll check the comments. i'm sure someone explained it.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74562
Anyone seen this? It has to be seen to be believed!
Thanks, so the gearbox is Ruben's problem
Yea I saw it earlier - he really has a B in his Bonnet about the Brawns
How come Rubens hasn't got a penalty then...
Is this like the Red Bull issue where it's not part of the actual gearbox just an associated part?....
Have followed all you what you've said, but teams can change the internals of a gearbox i believe, the gears etc without getting penalised
Steven said in the comments it was probably something to do with the fact the gearbox is from the honda development and the engine is from Mclaren.
Jenson has had a gearbox issue, but he has been running in clear air and not been having to push the car as much i shouldn't have thought, where as Rubens has had to push the car for the places he achieved in both races.
Can anyone remember how many kilos of fuel is burnt in a lap? Is it 4kgs? (I realise a "lap" is dependant on where you drive the lap)
About 2.5 KG
Cheers.
yep, tis true. They changed a gear in (4th?) Jenson's car in Australia without him being penalised. But from what they were saying this morning it's Rubens 3rd gearbox.
So in essence the Mercedes engine is "rejecting" the Honda gearbox.
no idea i don't understand it tbh... am searching back through the comments cause i'm sure someone said something.
his comment was
"If the Mercedes has significantly more power than the Honda engine gearbox problems are not a surprise"
so basically the honda gearbox isn't used to handling as much power as the Mercedes engine has.
So it's the other way around - the gearbox "rejecting" the engine :D
You don't see this is F1:
<BLOCKQUOTE>Frenchman Charles Pic inherited pole position for Sunday's Formula Renault 3.5 feature race in the series opener at Barcelona after rival Miguel Molina had his times disallowed for using his team-mate's tyres in qualifying.</BLOCKQUOTE>
lol, nice
Or like a rather slow guy keeping up with a fast girl...
So a bit like Flav then...
And it's getting cranky...
A bit like Flav then...
Guys can you remind me how many sets of super softs they have for qualy and the race?...
7 sets each, isn't it?
All in all I'm sure they get 7 sets of option, 7 prime, 4 inters and 3 wets.
hey, everyone.
in the 7 hours I was gone, 1658 new comments. Nice work!
I heard about the RBR resurgence. I'm betting Vettel will fall back to 3rd, Alonso will fall back to 6th or 7th, and Webber will DNF. Brawn 1-2, with Button ahead of Barrichello after he jumps him at the stops.
I can understand why though.
Brawn is a new team, not a rename of Honda - FIA have said it - which is why they are at the bum end of the pit lane.
As a new team they are entitled to nothing - they even have to wait a couple of years before they get any prize money they win this year iirc.
Then where is Rubens' 2nd gearbox penalty then?
yup - but flavio is doing this because he's pissed at brawn, not because of the rules. had they won their case against brawn, would he be doing this? i don't think so.
As it turns out, the top 3 are also the 3 lightest - I'm liking Brawn's chances to still win tomorrow.
Pretty much what I'm expecting...
From reading the regs, the key part of 28.6 which is all about gearboxes:
"For the purposes of this Article only, an Event will be deemed to comprise P3, the qualifying practice session and the race."
so if it busted yesterday and they changed it then they'd be fine.
I'm surprised someone actually is thinking the same as I am... :)
Right, I'm back and if anyone has posted in the wrong place, then I'll be on the run from Mr C.
He finished the last race, so if he's using a different gearbox to the one last race, there should be another penalty.
I suppose he could have been using a different gearbox in FP1 or 2 to the Malaysian GP one - but that then begs the question... Whats the point of having to use the race engines if you don't have to use the race gearboxes as well?
Does anyone know how much time per lap increases with each extra litre of fuel?
I see that the two stooges are once again towing trailer loads of fuel...
That'll be Junior and Heikki...
Scott, remember grandprixgames, well they should be found here
http://tmp.grandprixgames.org/read.php?1,855285
JA hasn't said it yet...
I'd like performance files and artwork and all that as well.
Awkward liitle ;)
Don't think I can see any yet.
Arse. :D
Looking at the fuel loads - Brawn have the fastest car, Toyota have a faster car than quali suggests, Red Bull have a slower car than quali suggests, and Renault are still slow. Nothing much has changed from Malaysia...
In the last two races, Jenson has left his first pit stop miles ahead of the driver in second place, so he shouldn't have a problem doing so here. That depends on what Rubens can do though...
That can be my summary for the digest, actually... ;)
It is possible that the Webber, Alonso and Vetel will all start on the softer tyre hence the short stint.
Formula Sim Racing has started once again, and they've already done the Melbourne and Sepang races :D
mms://psrtv.com/RaceReplay/FSR/2009/WC/WC_R1_Melbourne_R.wmv
mms://psrtv.com/RaceReplay/FSR/2009/WC/WC_R2_Sepang_R.wmv
They MUST be praying for a Safety Car.
That or rain which has been suggested
With the size of the runoff areas, it's pretty unlikely.
True, true.
The SC came out twice (or was it thrice?) in 2005. And that was a dry race.
well, the weather that we have here in Hong Kong usually gets to Shanghai about a day later. This afternoon it was very dark, low clouds and ... rather heavy rain. not the malaysian kind but still heavy enough ... still raining
Heads up, Ollie ain't hosting the panel. So who's next again?
Really? I remember a damaged Jordan on the track...
Oh dear. Three races in and we still won't know the true paces of the cars
"Really? I remember a damaged Jordan on the track…"
and Montoya hit the loose manhole cover
One was for Karthikeyan's shunt, the other was for the loose drain cover that JPM hit.
My summary for the day...
It's not great to use up your new super softs before Q3...
To run light for qualy is good... for qualy....
To have a diffuser is better...
But the best news is to drive an Adrian Newey miracle car... especially when you can drive like an angel... albeit a rather cheeky angel...
And finally you still shouldn't bet against the Brawns...
Me thinks you should be in Shanghai....
I wish I had a memory for F1 events, I have watched all of these races yet if you ask me to recall what happened in them a year later I won't recall, and I won't remember who won 2 years later.
I remember that same year in the V8 Supercar race in China, one car ran over a drain cover that was sticking up and it tore a huge hole through the underside of the car. It even came through near the driver's seat!
Morning everyone. Today I feeler older than Mr. C!
My very bold race prediction for tomorrow in Shanghai is as follows, taking into account the predicted rainfall during the race:
1st - Lewis Hamilton (McLaren Mercedes)
2nd - Fernando Alonso (Renault)
3rd - Jenson Button (Brawn Mercedes)
I remember one event being Schumacher tripping over that Minardi before the race. Apart from that, I only know of Alonso winning the race which sealed the constructors title for Renault.
Ah, well, try hard enough and you'll remember it, or at least store it in your memory. :D
Before or after the penalties?...
If it rains Jense will be the obvious winner...
i hope so, one day I want to be good at quizzes, but at the moment I can't remember podiums from 2007 let alone 10 years ago when I first watched an entire season!
"Me thinks you should be in Shanghai…."
went there for F1 four times, but can't take that environment any more. I prefer to fly to another continent instead of spending my money in Shanghai
If it rains, it's more likely we'll end up with JB-RB-SV.
I'm gonna try and guess them without looking them up now:
Australia - Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton
Malaysia - Alonso, Hamilton, Raikkonen
Bahrain - Massa, Hamilton, Kubica
Barcelona - Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen
Monaco - Alonso, Hamilton, Massa
Canada - Hamilton, Heidfeld, Wurz
USA - Hamilton, Alonso, Massa
France - Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton
Britain - Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton
Europe - Alonso, Massa, Webber
Hungary - Hamilton, Raikkonen, Massa
Belgium - Raikkonen, Alonso, Massa
Italy - Alonso, Hamilton, Raikkonen
Japan - Hamilton, Kovalainen, Raikkonen
China - Raikkonen, Alonso, Massa
Brazil - Massa, Alonso, Raikkonen
How did I do? :P
Oops, missed out Turkey - Massa, Alonso, Raikkonen
Its like repetition at times, they had like 6 different drivers on the podium. We've had 5 this year.
Oh, Kubica didn't get a podium in 07
Bahrain was Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen
Hungary was Hamilton, Raikkonen, Heidfeld
Turkey was Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso
Belgium was Raikkonen, Massa, Alonso
Brazil was Raikkonen, Massa, Alonso
At the time I never realised 2007 was so repetitive podium wise, how did I miss something so blindingly obvious. I was probably just excited to regularly see both McLaren drivers on it :D
Didn't think so but I wasn't sure.
Brazil was right! Massa won his home race.
Of course if it were the way Woodwiss said it in Brazil, Alonso would be the champion
As Kimi won Brasil in 2007 and had an engine failure in Barce...
But not too bad...
Oh wait...no you are right. Kimi was first across.
Not on 07. He let Kimi pass for the championship.
In 2006. Remember he had to give the win to Kimi in 2007 so that he can win the title?
No, Massa let Raikkonen through at the pitstops. Your thinking of 08
Hmmm... No wonder - it didn't look right. Massa, Hamilton... who was 3rd?
Ah, it was Alonso - Alonso got the lead back after Monaco since they tied but Alonso had more wins.
I had to think for a second to remember who was 2nd and 3rd in Singapore, and I was there! You all put me to shaaaame.
Do you remember who they were? ;)
to be honest I was thinking Rosberg got third and Hamilton second, then I remembered Rosberg was 3rd in Australia and I did know his Singapore result was an improvement on that, so he must have been 2nd because he certainly didn't win.
yup. Nico was 2nd, Lewis 3rd.
I'll try 2008 now:
Australia - Hamilton, Heidfeld, Rosberg
Malaysia - Raikkonen, Kubica, Kovalainen
Bahrain - Massa, Kubica, Kovalainen(?)
Spain - Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton
Turkey - Massa, Hamilton
Monaco - Hamilton, Kubica, Massa
Canada - Kubica, Heidfeld, Coulthard
France - Massa, Raikkonen, Trulli
Britain - Hamilton, Heidfeld, Barrichello
Germany - Hamilton, Piquet, Massa
Hungary - Kovalainen, Glock, Raikkonen
Europe - Massa, Hamilton, Kubica
Belgium - Massa, Heidfeld, Hamilton
Italy - Vettel, Kovalainen, Kubica
Singapore - Alonso, Rosberg, Hamilton
Japan - Alonso, Kubica, Raikkonen
China - Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen
Brazil - Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso
I do remember Ralf was on the podium for the first race I ever watched.
Ugh, Ralf.
So Argentina 1997 was your first?
Bahrian was with Raikkonen third.
And I actually forgot who finished third in Canada as well. Not that they were important
Kovalainen wasn't on the podium in Bahrain, but I couldn't tell you who was.
Didn't finish Turkey. I'll say Heidfeld.
Coulthard?
Brazil was Massa, Alonso, Raikkonen wasn't it
No, he got four second places.
Bahrain had Massa, Kubica, Raikkonen
Turkey had Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen
The rest are right. ;)
Oh yeah - good catch, RG. ;)
Spa 1998
Oh. What got you addicted? Was it the mega-pileup on the 1st start? ;)
I should be able to remember Bahrain podiums because the look on their faces when they swill their not-champagne are always hilarious.
James Allen has come out with his prediction as has f1 fanatic....
but it still counts as one of their gear boxes for the season doesn't it? or am i getting mixed up with engines here?
they're for engines, not for gearboxes.
personally i think Rubens would do better in the rain this weekend out of the 2 brawns
ahhh ok. i was bound to get them mixed up at some point :)
just finished listening to the Joe Saward show ... yes, the train station is definitelly there, it has been there since 2004 race. but no track leading to it :-) that is the Chinese way ...
I wasn't addicted though! I didn't watch it again that season, and I only watched 3 or 4 races in 1999. I watched all of 2000, and on and off through 2001-2003.
I watched all of 2004 because I started Uni that year and it didn't matter that I was up til 2am on Monday mornings because I had no intention of going to lectures on Mondays anyway :D My boyfriend that year used to come over on Sunday nights to watch all the races because my TV was bigger than his, and that's when I got really hooked.
Since then the only races I've missed live were 2005 USA because I had an exam, 2008 Malaysia because I was on a plane home from Melbourne, and 2008 Monaco because my grandmother died in the middle of qualifying and we left in a hurry to be with my grandad.
Missed Indy 05? What a race to miss, eh? ;)
The next day I asked my boyfriend what I missed and if he had taped it for me, he said it was such a farce he'd stopped recording it. I only watched it for the first time a few months ago on youtube, solely to see how the commentators coped!
I've just finished it too, it was good to hear this thoughts, as ever. Well done on getting it recorded!
I saw it unfold, but watched it anyway - I wanted to see what would happen behind-the-scenes, if the teams were going to make a stand.
There's rules for engines and gearboxes. Gearboxes have to last for 4 consecutive races or there is a penalty
But there's no ceiling on the number of gearboxes they can use in a season.
Big comment .. sorry
28.6 For the purposes of this Article only, an Event will be deemed to comprise P3, the qualifying practice session and the race.
a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for four consecutive Events in which his team competes. Should a driver use a replacement gearbox he will drop five places on the starting grid at that Event and an additional five places each time a further gearbox is used. Any replacement gearbox must be fitted with the same gear ratios that were declared under d) below and will only be required to complete the remainder of the Event in question. Any change to the gear ratios declared under d) below will incur a further five grid place penalty. In either case a new four race sequence may start at the following Event. Unless the driver fails to finish the race (see below) the gearbox fitted to the car at the end of the Event must remain in it for three further Events. Any driver who failed to finish the race at the first, second or third of the four Events for reasons which the technical delegate accepts as being beyond the control of the team or driver, may start the following Event with a different gearbox without a penalty being incurred. A gearbox will be deemed to have been used once the car's timing transponder has shown that it has left the pit lane.
b) If a driver is replaced after the first, second or third of a four Event period, having finished the first, second or third Events, the replacement driver must use the gearbox which the original driver had been using.
c) After consultation with the relevant team the FIA will attach seals to each gearbox in order to ensure that no moving parts, other than those specifically permitted under d) below, can be rebuilt or replaced.
d) At each Event seals may be broken once, under supervision and at any time prior to the second day of practice, for the sole purpose of changing gear ratios and dog rings (excluding final drives or reduction gears). Competitors must inform the FIA technical delegate which ratios they intend to fit no later than two hours after the end of P2. Gear ratios and dog rings (excluding final drives or reduction gears) may also be changed under supervision for others of identical specification at any time during an Event provided the FIA technical delegate is satisfied there is evident physical damage to the parts in question and that such changes are not being carried out on a systematic basis.
e) Other than under d) above, a replacement gearbox will also be deemed to have been used if any of the FIA seals are damaged or removed from the original gearbox after it has been used for the first time.
Campaign to stop calling Vettel young:
"Vettel, now in his second full season in F1, is now to be known as ‘old hand Seb’ or ‘old man Vettel’ and from now on is only ever to be pictured smoking a pipe, listening to BBC Radio 4 and moaning about how Sébastien Buemi listens to his music too loud, if music is what you can call that awful racket."
I like that it still exists in some form, but I miss proper Red Bulletin.
http://en.redbulletin.com/articles/seb_s_time_to_shine
Where is Lukeh to get that made in photoshop?
We all thought that Vettel committing to RBR too early was a BIG mistake.
Erm... maybe not. ;)
Speaking of Vettel, I've just put his English language fail on drop.io
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/observatating-mp4
I'd have a go at it - but last time I fires up Paint shop pro it made peoplke want to take bleach to their eyes...
:D
G'Day guys! What happened in qualifying!? :o VERY strange! Looks like it was pretty good.
It was boring, not worth watching it again.
Nah, who am I kidding, qually 3 = brilliance
Oh it was :D
Unless your name is Robert Kubica, Felipe Massa or Timo Glock....
Or you support two of those drivers.
My recap:
Vettel blocked Heikki which made me sad, then he put it on pole which made me happy, then he said 'observatating' which made me laugh
I'm so simple.
:D
Bored.

Tweet for IRL team Vision Racing on site in Long Beach:
Who and why are they protesting?
I love it!
Nice work :-)
I have no idea.
Responce to that image edit is better than the Mario and Kubica one. ;)
I have 5 weather gadgets on my Windows sidebar now :D
Is it not for Helio?
Anything, to get that out of my head, deserves a medal
Ooooh.. a challenge. :D
*cracks knuckles*
Now, where did i put that photo of Max...
All of them at the moment show the current temperature in Shanghai to be 17/18 degrees. Forecasts for tomorrow are either dry sunny or as much as a 50% chance of "PM showers".
Oh good lord...
So they don't know then.
Also, I'm monitoring the weather for Bahrain as well with the ProWeather gadget, which can monitor two locations simultaneously.
If its anything over than sun in Bahrain at the time of the GP i will sing another Village People's song
(PS - Am planning to send in YMCA to be aired during the panel today at somepoint.)
Certainly looking like a lottery at the moment. According to each on seperately:
ProWeather says a 50% chance of PM showers
Accuweather says rather cloudy and breezy
Weatherbug has mostly cloudy
Weather.com says PM showers
MSN Weather says PM rain, 90% chance of showers
Basically it's either gonna rain or just be cloudy but dry.
So what is everyone's take on the McLaren's 3-wheeler.
I can't help but think 4 wheeels must give more grip than 3.
Lewis made a more reasonable time compared to previously, but even so.
World Weather Organisation says it's going to be cloudy.
If you like, I can be the one that keeps track of the weather throughout the weekend. ;) :D
Very stiffly sprung car. 3 wheels isn't ideal *just ask Vettel* but it worked for Hamilton today
Christine and Mr C can't still be asleep, can they?
Oh they can be, Mr C is the worst usually. Wasn't he once asleep to like half 3?
So it will either rain or it won't?
Erm......pass? Different forecasts tell me different things. Some say it is going to rain while others says it's just going to be cloudy.
*Prays it rains*
The ProWeather gadget shows nothing but sunshine for Friday, Saturday and Sunday next weekend. T'was to be expected.
Friday - Sunny
Saturday - Partly Cloudy
Sunday - Partly Cloudy
No chance of rain.
Does it ever rain in Bahrain?
mainly on the plain.
Apparently it does, but very rarely.
And when it does, not for long.
Funny that a country with rain in its name sees virtually none of it. It's one of those ironic things about countries. Like how Iceland is all green and Greenland is all ice.
http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/2009/04/sidepodcast-meetup-science-museum.html
Ah nuts the photos are out of line. I should check this stuff really.
I spotted Christine in the main photo of the Hakka Macca.
Fixed.
You just made me panic and double-check Mr C wasn't in any of them. Luckily I'd already checked on Thursday!
:D
I was coming 6th in BATracer! Ended up in 12th... Still, I beat you Jon! ;) 3-2!
not again!!! this isnt going well for me ;)
I like your photos of Mika's car with it's no photography sign :D
I was watching the lap by lap, and I thought "Wow, Renault did good in qualy today and I'm going to match them!" No....
wow, i did baaaad.
i blame the fact that i only had 6 runs in the first place (instead of the usual 8, not sure why) and 3 of those were taken up by the fact that i did a bad lap which actually took up 3 instead of 1. poo
I waste sooo many laps in practice regardless of how low I put the slider, it shows when I'm always 3 seconds off the pace :D
I think we all only got 6 this time. I lost a couple as well.
There wasn't as much security down there, we all got a few shots :-)
ah, but your in a good car to start with :)
Unlike a couple of people's. ;)
wow apparently was not expecting to see this message in batracer
- The perfect setup lies 1 points beyond the capabilities of the car.
humph
ha, ours is 2 points. so we suck more than you ;)
:D
haha :D
To anyone else who cares about tennis, Rafa Nadal v Andy Murray is about to start. This is the game I've most been looking forward to :D
Night guys!
See ya Sean
Night!
eeeeekkkk.. mum's just booked my first driving lesson for the day after my first AS exam... eek.
my dad made me cry during my first driving lesson
I broke the speed limit on my first driving lesson. :D
and that, is why i only have driving lessons with qualified instructors :D
oh wow, have i got some catching up to do. morning all.
i spent about 5 weeks driving round deserted roads that were rather wide with my dad, then he decided to put me with a pro "to finish up". On the first day, the pro took me through the middle of the city during a Christmas shopping Saturday. All the things I'd never had before like pedestrians, other cars, hills and traffic lights. I hated it, but I passed both my tests first time :) I haven't driven a car in almost a year, oh how I miss it :(
I believe it's almost evening ;)
Did you see the race, I cannot believe how Buemi won
XD
The eternal sleeper awakes!
Oh yeah, and Piquet owning the rest of the field by 5 seconds a lap was just amazing.
ah yeah, i'm not driving dad anywhere till i pass. lol
Is this the wrong time to mention I passed first time?
you just got up? :( i want more sleep.
Lets be fair now, he did put those wets on a lap before everyone else did. He just got lucky
My dad drives a tuned Ford Focus. How I'd love to learn to drive in that :D
Probably.
Same as me. :D
Also didn't have to do those stupid theory tests. :D
sometimes that doesn't help, my mother refused to get in the car with me until I had passed, and the first time she did she panicked and pulled on the handbrake while I was driving!
Good call though. Sutil should have won though. His start was amazing, passing everyone before the first corner!
I notice on the wiki that a few people have various F1 games, like 2004, 2006 and so on. I’d quite fancy a China laptime challenge if anyone else would join. {Comment #23}
I would join in, but the newest F1 game I have is the 2000 expansion pack for GP3. They'd only just decided not to go to Zhuhai back then.
I did the one of the early ones.. when they were easy :-)
When he learns how to break, he should win. You cant pass everyone and then forget to break
Or even brake?
Its a Saturday, I don't care about grammar on a Saturday
:D
True. What's the use of passing everyone and then forgetting to slow down for the first corner? I like the guy, but that was just idiotic.
Could be worse. My dad's a driving instructor. He taught me to drive but now, whenever I do something to make him nervous, he'll slam his foot to the floor (Where his brake pedal would be on his car). Very annoying!
What did she do to you?
Andy Murray is going to loooooooose
My auntie and uncle run a driving school. 5DAY Intensive Courses. My aunt Jo says when I get my provisional and there's a course that someone pulls out off, I can take it because the course and instructor has been paid for by whoever pulled out. So I get free lessons! :D
hehe :)
ooh :(
it's acceptable to lose on clay to Nadal though!
Ohh lord, what have I missed...
Did you not see the race?
The one where Fisi set the fastest lap even though his car was on fire?
Oh yeah, I remember that now!
I can’t even get GP3 to run on any of my machines. :(
Hates multiple core CPU’s
Hates 64bit OS
I have no hope. {Comment #62}
No need to despair, Flibster! How about putting the 32-bit version of Ubuntu Linux on ISO CD and the DBGL frontend for DOSBOX?
(If that's all hieroglyphics to you, my idea is to get a version of Linux that can be put on a CD. When this is done, Linux can be booted up using the CD without making any changes whatsoever to the underlying operating system installation or partitioning. Then, a Linux-adapted version of DOSBOX could be used to play through GP3 through. It would be right at the top end of what DOSBOX could emulate in terms of the software requirements, but it's the best I can do).
So did you two stay up all night, Mr C?
My comment to solve Flibster's comment ended up in moderation because it is littered with links.
I honestly don't know how Kaz managed to crash his car while it was it was still in Parc Ferme...
Didn't Hamilton ram him like he did Kimi last year?
Can anyone remember how many kilos of fuel is burnt in a lap? Is it 4kgs? (I realise a “lap” is dependant on where you drive the lap) {Comment #122}
2.57kg per lap at Shanghai, according to Formula 1 Yearbook. The figure varies from circuit to circuit.
And every car is pretty much 605kg including driver and KERS if it's being run, yes?
If it is, I reckon I could just about work out how many laps of fuel everyone is carrying.
Does anyone know how much time per lap increases with each extra litre of fuel? {Comment #146}
At China, it's 0.44 seconds per 10kg, according to F1 Yearbook 2008-2009.
And every car is pretty much 605kg including driver and KERS if it’s being run, yes? {Comment #339}
If it's been designed properly, yes. I have already attempted to calculate maximum stint lengths and fuel-corrected times for the top 10 at my blog.
Really? I remember a damaged Jordan on the track… {Comment #163}
Very much so. Narain Karthikeyan ended his F1 career with a proper bang and the marshalls didn't seem to care much.
There was also the attack of the mutant drain cover which ended Montoya's race.
I reckon I'll have a go at working out the average lap times again, with all practice sessions and fastest qualifying time.
I do remember Ralf was on the podium for the first race I ever watched.
Ugh, Ralf. {Comment #199}
The first race I saw had Prost and Hill in first and second and I didn't really care who came 3rd at the time (though I did learn some years later that it was Schumacher M).
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/renault-race-stats-png
note the use of "break use" in that graphic too ;)
Weather report from Windguru says rain will begin between 2pm and 5pm. The race starts at 2pm.
The three-hour block has 0.9mm of rain predicted, but the next three-hour block is predicted to have 2.5mm of rain. I reckon it'll be dry until the last few laps, but with a three-hour window the rain could fall at any point of the race or not at all based on this prediction.
Perhaps more useful is the prediction of wind blowing in a north-westerly direction at a steady 13 knots, air temperature of around 19 degrees Celcius, and very overcast, to the point where visibility at ground level may be slightly reduced.
love that last sentence alia :)
From what I've got so far, on average Hamilton is 2 tenths quicker than Kovi and it's just a couple of hundredths in it between Kimi and Felipe.
Afternoon everyone! I have returned from my wedding and have caught up with qualifying.
Have I missed anything exciting?
The one where Fisi set the fastest lap even though his car was on fire? {Comment #330}
Given the way his weekend's gone, I can see half of that statement happening tomorrow. No prizes for guessing which half.
Surprisingly, the FIA haven't been heard yet. Just Flavio.
Nice to see ya back anyway.
Mr C I have a random off topic question for you...
My Dad has noticed that ebuyer.co.uk are doing a pretty good deal on drobos (free network adapter thing). And he was interested.
Any top tips? Anything he should avoid drive wise etc?
The FIA haven't been heard doing what?
Thanks nice to be back!
i only know as much a leo tells me, as i can't afford one :(
but, to all intents and purposes you can't appear to go wrong with them. good support and a good company.
Haven't been heard, been quiet, not raised any noise about anything
note the use of “break use” in that graphic too {Comment #346}
I suppose they do break the acceleration a lot...
There is a good deal with ebuyer apparently. Still seemed pretty expensive. Why would you want one specifically? I mean is it really worth it for normal use?
Ah got you!
Do we know if they are investigating the hold up on Heikki?
Heard nothing so I don't think so. I think it was because Heikki still had another lap remaining after that.
Chinese officials expect Super Aguri to be racing?
Probably would have heard something by now if they were.
peace of mind, and ease of use.
aside from still needing off-site backups, a drobo is basically all you need to ensure data integrity. plus it's as expandable as technology / your wallet allows.
If it’s been designed properly, yes. I have already attempted to calculate maximum stint lengths and fuel-corrected times for the top 10 at my blog.
love that last sentence alia {Comment #348}
Well, it seemed to make sense to direct attention to that entry, given the topic under discussion. Especially since James Allen's entry had been spotted and mentioned before I got here, so presumably the information wanted wasn't there.
christ!
Cool thanks. He was thinking he could put it in his shed and run cables out to there and have off site storage that way!
there is so much wrong with that sign I didn't know where to start
hiya everyone, hope you've all had a good day
Chinese officials expect Super Aguri to be racing? {Comment #363}
Since they have Buemi present, I'm guessing there are either some very good mystic predictors in China designing that or they simply forgot to check what was going on.
How many of them think that the black and yellow of the BBC is Super Aguri's new livery (since Davidson, one of the Super Aguri drivers, is commentating now).
hehe! wouldn't it get cold in winter / hot in summer, or is it a proper man's shed?
You missed qualifying of the century...
Believe it or not, my average lap time spreadsheet is telling me that on average, Piquet has been a fraction faster than Alonso so far this weekend.
Had a pretty bad day at work so it's nice to know i msised out on something brilliant. :(
Do we know if they are investigating the hold up on Heikki? {Comment #361}
The only reason I know the stewards have turned up this weekend is that somebody would surely have complained if they'd forgotten to board their plane to China. No infractions have been noted by the stewards so far, not even so much as a pit lane speeding incident.
wassup?
That is because Piquet wasnt in q3, where as Alonso was, so he'd be slower
It is a pretty serious shed! He doesn't call it a shed... it is "the workshop"
sound like a plan then :)
Even so, I'm only taking Alonso's fastest laptime over the whole qualifying session. Despite that, Piquet is quicker by about 1 and a half hundredths.
Aww man. Sorry about that, but here's the iPlayer if you have time
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jygct/Formula_1_2009_The_Chinese_Grand_Prix_Qualifying/
there is so much wrong with that sign I didn’t know where to start {Comment #369}
How about "all the pictures are from 2008"?
They are quiet.... almost too quiet!
Just one of them days where you feel you're the only person there who's bothering to actually do what they're paid for. There's oother little factors as well such as feeling so bad I had to go buy paracetomal to stop myself being sick and it makes for a pretty low day really...
Just looking forward to Bahrain now and hoping that the race will be good.
Forgot to mention this earlier.
May have located an older race prepared 2CV for sale. Ripe for stripping and rebuilding.
Have also found someone willing to give me a go in one at a track/airfield day.
:)
China...
Even so, I’m only taking Alonso’s fastest laptime over the whole qualifying session. Despite that, Piquet is quicker by about 1 and a half hundredths. {Comment #381}
Nelson had a very good Saturday practise, whereby he managed to get 5th. That helps.
nope. firstly tato-head is listed. also i see a blue and yellow renault.
So someone mentioning that Hamilton's penalties may be becuase of his skin colour seems to have shut them up. ;)
both Renault's also are using the exact same picture, but one is tilted.
wow. i think we should list everything that's wrong with that piccy!
Who said that?
gmm.
ah!
For one. There's only 1 2009 car on there, and that's an RB5.
Both the Brawns appear to be Barrichello in a Honda, and I'm pretty sure both McLarens have a yellow helmet for a driver.
the pic behind nakajima appears to be one of montoya driving?
Sutil.
Nakajima's Williams appears to be from the year 2000
One of the Toyotas is a 2002 car.
For anyone who was worried, the nachos have now been purchased.
- There's a 2000 Williams that Kaz never drove...
Looks more like 2002.
nope. firstly tato-head is listed. also i see a blue and yellow renault.
Buemi appears to be in the stuff he tested in last season. Though the Red Bull and Toro Rosso stuff is so similar I could be wrong.
I am definitely wrong about the Renault.
Cue a massive "YAY!" from Mr C.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn the Chinese characters have their names/teams horribly wrong
I think I heard it
It appears to be of Jarno Trulli as well
- Vettel's car is someone else (DC?) driving
According to the caption on the site it's for the marshalls to be able to identify drivers/cars which makes the errors hilarious
think so.
tis okay. they're not paying attention anyways:
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/126361
'There's this orange car. Who's that. Who the hell is that? Oh my god we have an unauthorised car on the track.'
haha!
:D haha
Woo Hoo!
cheers, appreciate it :)
haha! oh dear... :)
I'd quite like some nachos. Perhaps shopping is in order before the race.
in other hilarious photo news,
The Chinese really like Ferrari engineers?
I really want nachos too :(
Will these be the first nachos of the season?
Haha, you can see the end of 'Felipe Baby' in the top corner
Rob FTW!
I like "pray for the best, prepare for the worst"
Ok - who put that image on drop.io!?!!?!?!
AHHH WHY DID I LOOK
oh god
why why why..
Give me the Mario and Robert image, just give me it now.
Oh god oh god oh god i didnt just see that
that is horrible.
however, i can trump it: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/aww-man-he-came-back-png
yuck!
how can Kimi see past that hat, it's now actually covering his eyes
Darn.
But still cant get the other one out of my head
Maybe thats the point
:D

that be no hat, that be a balcony
:D
Honestly guys...
He's got to keep the sun off of his ice cream...
He wouldn't want it to melt now would he?...
can anyone help dougie with this question:

cheers, i'll comment back.
anyone fancy explaining what this text on vettel's dash means?

Other than the obvious?
Jim Clark: The Quiet Champion on BBC Four this evening at 19:00
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00jw9cw
What's the obvious?
Aww Vettels pit radio when he heard he got pole is really awesome :D
Cheers for the heads up
oh how I want to sleep, hurry up and lose Andy Murray!
If Jordan's around - Happy Birthday! :)
It's tomorrow isn't it?
According to Facebook, it's today.
According to the wiki, its also today ;)
Happy Birthday Jordan
Reward for getting pole. ;)
:D
Who's Kate, I wonder.
and who's her sister?
With a dirty sister... Who cares who Kate is. :D
Poor Kate.
Maybe, its a nickname for the car?
Unless Vettel is actually a girl and has a sister called Kate
I'm liking the technical insight on the diffusers by Gascoygne :)
right, tennis has finally finished so it's zzzz time for me
night all!
Haven't a clue what 'Kate's Dirty Sister' refers to, obviously some in-joke with the RB mechanics. I've asked matey boy who works in the composites department to see if he can shed any light on it.
On a Red Bull theme, I was interested to pick up on Webber's comments in the press conference about his previous Renault engine engineer Pierre-Emeric Benteyn:
Strange that nobody has heard much about this prior to today really? I know he's not considered an F1 'big-wig' but all the same, you'd think it might have hit headlines somewhere. Unless I've missed it a few months ago?
see ya tomorrow amy
If the tennis is finished I guess Murray lost then :(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8005975.stm
cheers sir.
new to me, but he was on the renault podcast last year i think. amazed the renault blog hasn't mentioned it!
Steve Matchett has the China GP Chalk Talk up on Speedtv.com :D
This race weekend's subject - KERS.
ok It's been on my mind all day and I've been reading up about it and related stuff, been given advice to look at in the past week or so and have now decided that the first purchase of my student loan on Monday shall be towards an extremely educational purpose.... Goodwood tickets! :D
It is tempting isn't it..
w00t!
Of course its educational. It helps you work out the best angles for photography and such and you can talk to famous people about how they got there
See you totally get my point of view! :P
Although im still looking at accomodation-related issues... which is a bit of a nuisance.
What was the course again?
The studying course not the hillclimb :-)
On the Kate's dirty sister thing... At a complete guess I would imagine it was some kind of joke about Torro Rosso...
Or perhaps Webbo calls his car Kate... Sounds like the kind of thing Vettel would think as a joke... "I don't want a ride on Kate... I'd rather..."
Computing. Goodwood is relevant to computing, I'll ahve to look for directions on my computer, therefore, related. ;)
Ah yes. You need to go to check out the computer-controlled engine mapping (that plays the national anthem).
Does that mean I can get a loan for funding Sidepodcast? You need computers to access Sidepodcast!
Hmmmm
[Bassano tries to justify a new Aluminiun MacBook again]
aww man. me too.
Vettel, Heidfield, Buemi, Bourdais, Button, Hamilton, Kovalainen, Rosberg, Trulli, Sutill and Fisichella are pictured with the 2008 versions of their respective cars.
Barrichello is pictured with the 2006 BAR Honda.
Alonso and Piquet pictured with the 2005 Renault.
Super Aguri as already mentioned. With Sato pictued with the 2005/6 car and Davidson pictured with the 2007 car.
Webber, Nakajima and Glock are pictured ith the 2009 versions of their respective cars.
What can I say I'm bored. :D
Reminds me of the 1st Chinese GP and the journalists asking Schuey:
"Why do you always race in a red car, is it your lucky colour?"
Woo hoo!
Opening weekend at the IMAX for Star Tek movie booked! :D
Hi Guys.
For things like the above there are sometimes grants available.
In Plymouth and Glasgow some long dead person has left money for young people in the area to spend on entirely trivial things. Enjoying themselves basically. There must be more around the country. My stepson applied saying he wanted to go to Glastonbury and got £100. Ask at your local library for info on local trusts, bursaries, bequests etc. They used to have a list. Or of course try online!
Things like this

That is the best grant ever. More councils need to employ this! :P
It saved me paying for him to go although the lost day's wages to go and bale him out after his cash was "stolen" pretty much balanced it out!
Just wondering.... has anyone ever heard that really, really terrifying Jenson Button/James allen song someone made on youtube?
I'm assured it can't be any worse than, that thing, on drop.io
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3y026mr7OE
judge for yourself. scary times. stuck in my head :(
JEN-SON-BUT-TON!
Nooo! Don't link to it! I had got it out of my head!
*clicks helplessly*
evening - dont forget - the Jim Clark prog on BBC 4 starts - erm - NOW!
Thanks, better than the rubbish I was about to watch ;)
cheers for reminding :)
Oops, thought it was at 8.
not simulcast? boo.
Yo, people, c'mon. I mean I was thinking this morning about Lauda's words from late 2006. He said that with Italians in charge of Ferrari things are likely to deteriorate quickly. It didn't really show in 2007 and 2008 but now I'm starting to believe it. Kimster in his monstrous red Ferrari cap looks like some Finnish rapper.
What was Jean Todt doing in China? Suggestions? Maybe you know something? Will he be back?
What's Piquer Sr. doing at every race this season?
Fisichella back to Renault?
My favourite quote of the day: "There's been a few legends in that gravel trap in the past, so I've joined them." M. Webber
My favourite quote of the day: "While 12th position doesn't truly reflect my pace, it's clear that we're heading in the right direction." H. Kovalainen
the Lion is listening to you but we're too lazy to type these days...
The Jim Clark prog is repeated tonight at ten as well, again on BBC4 - but I have a feeling it might be with signing.......
It was only a matter of time once Brawn & Schu left
They've had a good run, move over please
That recording of Jim Clark played then was very eery...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74601
Kubica wanting BMW to improve? Where did i hear that before.....oh wait, yes! Last year!
My Uncle would concur with you there...
Last week more like!
this will be a great addition to my dvd collection. I am just sad that I missed the Jackie Stewart prog. :|
Thatw as an excellent program on Jim Clark, learnt a lot there. Seemed like an amazing person for F1 and motorsport's history to hold. :)
Same here, I really want to see that!
It is available in other ways, you know...
It mystifies me that BMW are so far off the pace considering their size and when they committed to 2009...(
I really don't do sad endings. Brilliant programme, fantastic stuff and really good to know such a nice guy can succeed in F1
Gavin,
Promised http://simpsonizeme.com/ link
I got the Jackie Stewart one on DVD, I'm assuming it's the same one. I didn't see it on TV last week and I missed this Clark one (it sucks not having Freeview).
Freeview boxes are dirt cheap these days
Everyone says that when I say I don't have Freeview. What they don't get is that there is no signal to pick up.
Done. Ta muchly ...)
Fair enough, I'll be quiet on that one then ;)
Hey Pat - great pics from earlier this week - DAMN I MISSED IT!!!!!! Grr Grrr Grrrrrrrr @ working :(
So how's everyone feeling at the moment? Tired? Awake?
In time they'll be a switch over, we've got one and we can pick up certain channels at certain times. But by 2012 i think it is, everywhere should be able to pick up signal
Oooh, just found out my dad's been to the Jim Clark Museum. Says he might have a few pics lying about.
Heh :-)
You'll see me get unreasonably excited in about 3 weeks when the flick the switch and my BT Vision starts working properly instead of just hte downloads!
Pretty good, I slept in till 14:30 in preparation
Thanks :-)
A lot less ill than i felt in work thats for sure.
Sick from standing on a boat in the Thames to take some bloody pictures :-(
Rested. About to leave for Dad's, I promised to house-sit, feed cats, feed fish, etc. So I'll stay over and watch the race on a massive telly with Sky! My first chance to experience this red button stuff. Hopefully I'll also be around for commenting.
Try the CBBC commentary for a short while, just for a laugh
Yep. I'm in Westcountry so ours begins May 6th and ends two weeks later but we only get the 'light' version with only the public service channels because we're on a repeater transmitter.
Don't suppose anyone would be partial to a Skype convo?
Ooh me me me! :D Saturday night should be Skype night :D
Good chalk talk on Speed TV describing how diffusers work [in general]
Diffuser Chalk Talk
well I am off for a hot hot soak in preparation for (hopefully) a good night kip.
Just my luck. off from work from thursday, and I get a %£@*&%$ cold! Still, it allows me a chance to catch up with my old tapes and dvds :)
http://www.teamamericaf1.com/blog/
There's an update there. Rofl. 3 wheeled car was especially good.
Yeah but only with my parents!
Talk about quiet tonight.
It is isnt it?
Folk enjoying a saturday night or getting some rest before the early race
Enjoy the night, man!
Cooking...
Instead of just me and the other half - got one of her friends round.
Can't get on the big comfy sofa...
TV is set to LivingTV or some other garbage *extreme makover?*
Kitchen is mine though. :D
Evening all, how are we all? Loving the BBC4 driver documentaries, especially when combined with saussage sandwiches.
wow, really is quiet here tonight.
Sausage sandwiches rool!
That's an understatement if ever there was one.
Well I'm here now, the party can start.
Or something.
Skype? :D
Wine and Family guy I'm afraid. Plus, my housemate has only just got home, don't want to leave him alone already!
Anyone heard from Ollie btw? Or are we still without a panel host?
He can't do it. So we don't have one.
Oh, and I'm alive too ;)
No volunteers?
Jackie is on the list, dunno if she wants to do it or not.
It's a bit short notice otherwise I'd offer.
I'm very tempted to offer my services, but not sure if i can come up with enough questions.
And I do realise that by posting this, I have made a terrible, terrible mistake.
So you'll be hosting the panel then?
*sigh*
Maybe. How many questions would I need if I were to do it, not that I am saying I will.
If you need any help with the questions, drop me a line over the wiki. Or ask questions about the diffuser, a few about the race.
A good 6-7 questions will do
A confession
http://thef1waffler.blogspot.com/2009/04/so-does-that-mean-brawn-will-suddenly.html
I've got a couple of extra ideas, I'll jot down a few ideas and get back to you......
Okay. Good luck ;)
Oh dear......
Myself and Mr. Andy Taylor are going to be on Skype. If you wish to join, just shout here and we'll see what we can do to get you in ;)
Any idea how long you're gonna be one for? Roughly like.
Thanks for this - bookmarked it!
w00t!
not at all.
no idea
No idea. But I'm sure we'll be on for a while so whenever you want to join feel free.
You're such a charmer. :)
Oh great. I was hoping not many people had seen that so I could deny it. How wrong I was.
Fat chance!
i know nothing. i kinda hope it's to point the finger and chuckle at the disarray.
:D
still reading your blog too, good man.
I know, more fool me.
Your already on the wiki, and the wiki is always right ;)
Steven Roy-esque?
Oh for crying out loud. Why does sidepodtime suddenly speed up at moments like this?
I'll be keen for the panel but it's too soon to host again...)
ahh, am excited now. to much man-flu to host meself and was worried we would have to postpone. yay for chris :)
I think I'm gonna go to bed in a few minutes. Definitely in by 10:30 anyway. Gonna go off here. Night.
night joe.
See ya later Joe
Night Joe. :)
G'night Joe
Well, no backing out now. Text Edit is officially open for notes. Any ideas are more than welcome.
Like I said on the wiki, 'The legend that is Chris Evans'
cheers joe. an early night does sound tempting. have been banished until further notice while christine f1minutes and digests.
Even though you slept through half the day?
Flattery will get you nowhere.
No wait, I mean everywhere.
Anyone else want to join us on Skype?
a) if i do say so myself, i am rather unwell. almost dead in fact.
b) on friday night i managed a total 4hrs sleep and before qually, just two.
I didn't get to sleep until 3 this morning. Just couldn't doze off.
Ah yes, understood. :)
ahhh once again find myself playing outrun. What a game, so many good memories in various ferrari models.
That sounds familiar :-(
Which Outrun?
Ok.....so people, i need some help understanding something....
Flav wants to give away Brawn GP money (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74600)
However...what i don't get is that he just wants to give away Brawns money, but not williams and toyota too!? How does that work?
Hellllp pleasee
nice blog post there r.g. especially:
"This is a confession on how horrendously wrong I was."
...we all were.
Bet you can't wait till next weekend then. That is at a decent starting hour at least.
was playing the megadrive one last night but more so the updated one on the xbix live arcade this week which is extremely faithful to the old school games.
it's me own fault mostly. last few weeks have been busy. it was only ever going to catch up with me. i blame bernie.
very simple. flav is an idiot.
that help ya?
has steven roy's name now changed to bernie then?
Steven Roy's getting an easy ride these days, first Lou, now Bernie?
What's the world coming to?
quite, thanks.
may i be added to that list?
Speaking of lou, how did she get out of hosting?!
Oh were we all now?
She only thinks she's got out of it :)
;)
I think we need to tell him that...
ha! fair point.
I think that's taking things a little too far. You've crossed the line.
Can I also be added to the, get him out of Football one as wel
I was going to say that you were but a twinkle in your parents' eye when the first Outrun came out ...)
what's he done in football?
He's good at sacking managers but that's about it...
Took over QPR and made them a laughing stock by literally sacking a manager every time he loses a game, more or less
He deserves to know!
correct me if im wrong, but the team he bought has had 10 differnet managers in 2 years or something rediculous like that, silly man
yet piquet still has a drive??
Complained about how some of the other teams have better football boots than his team, probably
The two don't match...
:D
Piquet isn't a manager. ;)
heh
he takes his anger out on managers rather than piquet
How is Pat Symonds still there?
Not telling Flavio he works at Renault.
"He qualified where? Get QPR on the phone...."
i think he just fires them in advanced now tbh.
Three questions already, these panel shows write themselves.
If only they edited themselves too ;)
they'll be incidents tomorrow too, so you'll get some material from that :)
If you have one for the race as well, thats four
The hard one is the killer question. I only thought of the 'man crush one' on the day of it
Yeah, hopefully one or two will crop up!
Yeah, that may take some thought.........
They're edited? I feel cheated.
Have you heard one live? You don't know the half of it!
Maybe... Do you wanna suggestion for it?
Ahem - check the wiki.
i know. next we'll find out the phone-ins are rigged too.
Always welcome. Want to email it me so people don't get advance warning?
I like to stress I do not work for Sidepodcast and did host the panel not because I was simply in the building.
I''ll pm you on the wiki
sweet.
tallandmerciless isn't it?
phew. panic over.
Yup. Gotta love them in-jokes.
Surely not. :D
Then you'll tell me that the Giggles Rap is mimed.
:D
Cheers RG, I was actually already thinking along those lines.
Chris, I've sent the question. Dunno if you want it or not, can change it to suit something else if needed.
Just catching up on the posts (cant sleep, damn these daytime naps!)
Flav - has he banged his head? He wants Brawn (and only Brawn) to return the tv money because they have designed a better part then the other teams? Have I got that right?
So should the other teams ask for some money from Renault because of the mass damper system thingy that was ruled illegal?
It's a shame. I read his interview in Autosport before the season started and I was starting to like the bloke but now he has reverted to form.
As great as Alonso's performance was today in qualy, I now want both Renaults to crash out on the first lap. Is that wrong of me? :p
Two great minds ;)
Indeed :D
I would like the batracer people to update the renault speed on batracer and then they should crash :D
Well if one of them crashes out, don't feel too bad as it was probably going to happen anyway.
You can't be talking about piquet? :D
Oh no, whatever gave you that idea?
By the way, anyone see the Brawn article in the Independent today?
what does it say? If it's being nasty about them i'll leave it for another day to read.
does that mean never? :D
it means a day when i may not take it personally ;)
yeah, like i said, never ;)
It's a piece about how Ross Brawn has coped with the consequences of the diffuser controversy. Written by David Tremayne. Not nasty at all.
link? i could do with some cheering up.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/the-brains-behind-brawn-1670336.html
whats up? :(
thing is, it's not a controversy though, is it? Surely creative thinking is what F1 is all about?
that's the one, mr C :)
what's up, Lou? :(
Absolutely, but some of the teams didn't agree, did they?
i've had about 7 hours sleep over the last 2 days (2hours on friday, 5 on saturday), i feel absolutely awful, and have spent the last 6 hours running around a hall lighting a concert... and then in my rush to come home quickly i burnt my finger on one of the lights. not a god day.
thank you.
but thats always been the way.........wings, sponsorship (which funded development), six wheels, fan cars, active suspension, paddle shift gearboxes, they were all protested.......?
Sounds like tremendous fun :( Least no more early morning asian races until Japan
damn... sorry to hear you're feeling so rough :(
if it;s any consolation, all that is now out the way and you can now relax, look forward to the race tomorrow, and have a cup of tea to help relax maybe, just give yourself some time to chill out? :)
burnt finger? ow!
well if it cheers you up I havent been to Canterbury today because of this blasted cold, and neither have I been to the post office. but the two discs are sat here on my computer desk :)
Also, lou...
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/marzf1rocks/13431957.jpg
:P
that picture makes me laugh...but not for the right reasons lol
Oh btw lou, I suggest you don't go on drop.io, there is an image more disturbing than that one of Mario and Robert.
that smile is seriously brilliant. Seen that photo so many times and it never fails to amaze me
It looks like he's thought about his start to the season and thought "AWWWW MEYHTE! (mate)" :D
oh dear. bad grin lol
Don't even mention it!!
Indeed, my eyes are still burning!
I was just warning her
how can it be worse.
But now she will look to find out what it is...
See!!!
OMG!! WHO?! WHY?!....:|
dont do it
please dont do it
Don't even ask that!
And it is a million times worse.
OH DEAR GOD!
Think of your worst nightmare and times it by 700
more to the point... who did it?
thats what i just thought, whoever put it there needs to be tortured
yeah its not nice....
Don't say we didn't warn you
Okay so I am at Dad's place testing out the commenting options.
It seems he's running IE7 with every annoying toolbar in the universe. Doohickey and LCLT no worky and I don't want to go installing other browsers on someone else's computer...
CSI: Sidepodcast.
im not sure i really want to know, because that person must be disturbed
Now this has an idea. We need a good 'The Who' soundtrack first, then we can get going.
I can't take the blame for this one. :D
I don't know who uploaded it, it wasn't me, but I had seen it a day earlier posted to another place - and I didn't have the luxury of a thumbnail..
You're in for a lot of refreshing then
You need portable Firefox. Or one of those programs that you can put on a memory stick to run your own desktop. Can't remember what they are called and I deleted the one I had when i went Mac.
Oh god no. Now that is unfortunate.
But since you saw it earlier, how do we know you aint lying, do you have an alibi?
lclt should be fine on ie7?
ahhh, but now your the accuser, so it may have been you....;)
www.portableapps.com
Hahaha that's just soooo wrong
Sounds like Jon is trying to cover up something! ;)
That seems to be the most laidback approach, your top of my list Jackie.
Me too - twice in one day.
I AM BLIIIIIND!!!
Tonight has been too disturbing... THAT pic and the james allen/jenson messed up song.
*shudders*
A sense of taste and decency?
Me? I'm only for Timo Glock here my man, not, him.
I am NEVER going to get to sleep now!
Seriously, if that was me who did that, i'd currently be admitting myself to a mental hospital
James Allen song?
Portable apps is one, but I had another program that basically took over the computer and ran whatever desktop you wanted. It was very useful for bypassing corporate policies (so was dual booting Windows :D)
If somebody put the two together!!
JEEN SOON BUUT OON.
We'll need some Men in Black style memory erasers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3y026mr7OE
again, lou may not want to see again :P although its nothing bad about jenson, just.... messed up.
:)
oh no... i know that song... *shudders*
Aw come on, that's funny .. poor Heidi Klum
:)
Where?
linked down the page for you
Thats funny? I aint seein no fun there
whoever made that needs hitting and to be given a medal, im literally crying thats so funny, and wierd
To be honest, that's what he sounds like to me when playing F1 2006 on the PS3 :-(
Ooooh dear
Digest is up, to save us from our despairs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOW-jngVoT4&feature=related
Watch this, its great. Love Jenson in it too
Gavin did you ever see Steven's awesome comment explaining star wars?
It loads the screen but no content, each box is empty.
I had no idea these things existed...
Score one for Mr C. in his Montoya argument ...)
Very handy, always keep portable firefox on a memory stick
No not yet ... I can't find it :-(
To quote Buemi...
...noooooo!!
Its on the Best comments of the year page on the wiki
Where you 3 tenths up aswell?
I'm Simpsonizing Jenson Button :D
*were
I just made mine wierdly enough as you say that, woo!
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Best+Comment+of+the+Year
LOL :-D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFUJjm0yXNc&NR=1
Something else he may like then :D
For the lazy:
Commenter: Steven Roy
Background: Lou has never seen Star Wars, but "Cool Runnings i’ve seen".
Comment: "It was just the same except Star Wars was in space and instead of going down a hill they had to go and take on Darth Vader and the bad guys in a massive space war."
Since when did Sky News care about F1?
they bernie's super special tv feed then didn't they?
think they were doing a bbc and pimping it any which way they could.
That's funny?
Anyone remember this??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KREYDiy73qc&feature=related
I love watching Mosley squirm, he's just talking rubbish
Return of the Jedi is just the same as Star Wars, but with teddy bears. I mean would you believe it, the Empire build another Death Star with the same fundamental flaw in the design?
Cowboy builders, eh?
Phew. I have been in a panic about that all day
Now I too can sleep easy.
Exploring the music channels on Sky. Why do they all take ad breaks at the same time? That's really annoying.
I found a good channel with some old school classic rock, but then they ruined it by playing Nickelback.
Evening all :)
What a waffler, and so patronising.
by design.
It must have been too far down the planning stage to change it.
Maybe they had a budget cap
I found British F3 on MotorsTV. Martin Haven rocks.
can i assume it will be three on each team for the panel?
He does!
yes. There's five confirmed already, and a bunch that say maybe as well.
On a good day ...)
cool.
It must have been a KERS failure that caused it to blow up...
apart from me if your using the killer question i gave you ;)
not sure yet, I'll let you know.
I have a cupcake. It's not as good as DD2's cupcakes though
Which means its on 4od too :D boo ya
mmmmmmm cupcake!
Okay.
For anyone who missed it the Jim Clark vid is on the iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jw9cw/Jim_Clark_The_Quiet_Champion/
So why wasn't the Jackie Stewart one on the iPlayer?
F3 is on 4OD? I assume that's the C4 show not the MotorsTV version.. it would make me happy if MotorsTV stuff is on 4OD!
what? they couldn't put it on live, but they can after the fact?
cool. was it any good?
Fantastic. I'd recommend watching it.
No it's Channel 4's show i think, not 100% sure though. They do F3 then British GT the weekend after at about 7.30 on a saturday morning, which im so not up for doing, so 4od it is :D
and why isnt jackies on the iplayer but this is?!
For flip sake. Can't watch it outside the UK. :(
I follow him on Twitter, for the last 2 days he's been complaining about not knowing anyone in World Series by Renault this year!
Excellent! I like this plan. I had no idea they'd put it on there. 4OD is normally so hit and miss.
apparently the Jackie Stewart prog isnt on iplayer anymore..... gutted!
but at least they will be repeating the Graham Hill prog next week :)
Unlike the iplayer, i only use it for the things i know ill like
I don't think it ever was. Will go and check an alternative source
it was never on the iplayer. which is strange cause the graham hill one was, as is the jim clark one.
oh thats not right :( unless its because it was 90 mins long and the others are only an hour?
Seems only fair to spread the credit
Congratulations must go to Max Chilton (who i've never particularly rated) who on the first F3 race of the series.....made his race start when the red lights came on....
there are many other programs that are longer than that
Lukeh volunteered to go on the list yesterday as well.
I am guessing it's a rights problem. Alternative source has come up trumps, ao once I have it...
Theres a new list called 'People Who Want to host a panel but dont know yet'
right. bedtime I think. I expect I will see you all in the morning :)
Sleep well all
Somehow I managed to bypass that and go straight to hosting......
But you did that all on your own - we have witnesses :)
Night!
Right, alarm set for 6:50am. One shall see you there then. Have a nice sleep
Is it bad that i'm not bothered about missing it and just watching the replay?
night people going to sleep! :)
Yeah, you're probably right. At least I have come up with the questions relatively easily.
night, night and night!
Red flag for race 2, everyone ok, nasty shunt though.
What is it with Oulton Park and rolling cars?! its impressive
Night you lot. :)
That be to those going to sleep. ;)
You sometimes wonder if Flav's brain does anything but move his bottom jaw. If the Brawn drivers are so awful and his drivers are so fab that simply means the team he is responsible for built an even worse car than we think. Why doesn't he just say our car is so bad even I can't believe it.
I always set the DVD Recorder even if I'm attempting to get up for an early race
It's not the fact that i might not get up, its just that im not that bothered. :-/
I woke up this morning around 11, checking the doohickey and was i was like "what there quali this morning" and wasnt really bothered that id missed it.
sidepodflashy things
Right, I'm off everyone. A few laps around Shanghai on rFactor then to bed. Hopefully I can dream up some more questions for the panel. ;)
Night all!
Bah. Can't find the software that I am looking for. It runs on a USB stick oro external drive to replace the Windows desktop of a machine with the one on the stick. Google is failing me.
nahnahnah, when you start dreaming of Sidepodcast, then it gets serious
Night Chris
I am just about to watch it now that I have caught up on the comments. Hard to make something bad about Clark and even harder with JYS involved.
Just people who volunteer in the comments but don't put their name on the list. Fortunately Lukeh dropioed proof so he can't get out of it.
Deneuralysers? Better get the shades out then.
I did not write that sign. It wrote itself.
Suuuuure. ;)
Am giving blogging a second try: http://thef1files.wordpress.com/2009/04/18/1-i-hope-i-havent-missed-anything/
At last, found the software - Mojopac (mojopac.com) :)
Good night all, see you later for the race...
Night Gavin
night gavin :)
night Gavin
Yup, I'm heading off too. Night folks, see you at 7 :)
Night Scott
See you at 5 to 8 :)
Wonder if this was affecting Ferrari's balance and why they have ditched KERS
"A KERS-related failure on Kimi Raikkonen's car in opening practice at Sepang allowed us to see how the system's large battery is packaged in a carbon fibre box within the F60's chassis. It is located in a cavity under the chassis, the presence of which means a significantly smaller fuel tank than would otherwise be possible. With the base of the battery box now effectively forming a second floor, it also means the fuel is higher in the chassis, raising its centre of gravity."
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2009/806/638.html
I now have the JYS documentary :D
Well sourced ;)
oka i'm considerably happier now (and all by starting to look at plans for goodwood), and am off to get some sleep. see you all around 7 or whenever the bbc start their coverage ;) night x
Night Lou
Ditto.
I may be popping in and out before the race but won't be live commenting the event. Will probably be sleeping after the chequered flag so will catch up with you nice people nearer the debrief & podpanel shows, no doubt
Night all. :)
Just watched the Jim Clark film on the iplayer. It is amazingly good. I was expecting a lot but it exceeded expectations.
I have never seen video of the von Trips accident before. I had always been under the impression that it had happened on the banking.
Amazing to see someone like Dan Gurney in tears 40 years later.
iPLayer Downloader didn't work for me :( Will try again tomorrow.
It happened near Parabolica, right?
Hehe, everyone slept early so that they can get up by 7 AM. I wonder who will make it...? ;)
good morning, oh well, good afternoon Journeyer :-)
anyone fancy explaining what this text on vettel’s dash means? {Comment #445}
"Seb, you ain't going nowhere till you put this thing in gear and get those mates of yours to get the engine started!"
