We're into the race weekend now, with Free Practice already done and dusted. There'll be plenty to talk about this weekend, as the teams start adapting their cars depending on how their performance has been of late. At the moment, we're discussing:

  • Whether Hamilton's P1 in FP1 was due to a new attempt at the double decker diffuser he was running. Chances are it was. We also saw Kubica way down at the bottom of the timesheets with his new KERS device, whilst the Ferrari boys were struggling without theirs.
  • It turns out that BMW are still deciding whether to withdraw their appeal from Malaysia regarding the rear diffusers. Although the Australia protests were thrown out by the ICA this week, BMW won't withdraw theirs until they receive it "in writing." Seems like a bizarre thing to do, considering everyone else is moving on from the ruling now.
  • Finally, the audio of our impromptu podcast is available via the Sidepodcast Drop. It's the unedited version, fresh from Hyde Park, but if you'd prefer to wait for the edited version, it should appear, um, soon. We're still dreaming up names for it, although it will be an F1 Debrief. Sideparkcast is a good one, and Sidepodpark also makes me chuckle. If you've got any thoughts, let us know, there's no prizes!

That'll do it for now. I'm off to update my Fantasy Racers, don't forget to do yours. There'll be a reminder post along with my decisions shortly. Until then, I'll see you in the comments.

I think Ferrari have to put KERS back on for FP3 to see the impact it actually has. Will be interesting to see if Kubica keeps his for tomorrow. As always, good to see Webber up there, also the fastest non-diffuser car. Possibly to be expected though.

Great response from both of them, and Renault tried to get Button over the winter? Interesting... also, I think rubens summed it up perfectly there

So Nelsinho must be thanking his lucky stars Brawn managed to buy it out. Otherwise, he’d be out of a job…

It's just prolonging the inevitable with him though isn't it?

  • Journeyer17/04/2009 at 10:06

Of course, Flavio could say, "I didn't go after you to win a title. I went after you because you'd be a better #2 than Nelsinho will ever be."

I'm sure that's what he was thinking, anyway...

  • RG - Doing it for Timo17/04/2009 at 10:19

I am after summaries for the digest, yup.

    Ok.

That was my first real taste of getting up way too early in the morning to watch a practice session. What have I learned? That the 5Live coverage is excellent, it can get rather dull at times. From the practice itself, hard to tell how much BMW are 'sandbagging', normally its in the midfield but this is right at the back of the grid, does Kubica really need KERS because he might be fast enough without the weight of it.

  • chris evans17/04/2009 at 10:19

I am after summaries for the digest, yup.

Should I be suspicious that Mr C and Ms McK are getting sick at the same time?

    hehe :)

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 10:22

    My summary:

Brawn GP go into qualifying with the advantage once again, Jenson leading Rubens as is becoming the status quo. But hot on their heels is Red Bull, something which I for one am pleased to see. Webber looks to be the stronger of the two and I think he could be on course for a good result this weekend. Toyota and Rosberg are a little behind this time but not too much as they still take up their customary places behind Brawn. Meanwhile, McLaren seem to be making some progress with a new front wing and double diffuser, although it looks like their stellar FP1 performance was just a shortlived thing No doubt we'll see more from them once they get their "big update" at Barcelona. As for Ferrari, BMW and Renault, what on earth is going on? Ferrari have admitted getting worse without KERS, while the other two are just plain off the pace, especially Kubica who must be frustrated carrying around what must be the heaviest car on the grid now. A rather uneventful day to begin the weekend, but at least there's no controversy to contend with...apart from Flavio shooting his mouth off, that is.

  • Jon Waldock17/04/2009 at 10:22

Morning all, how on earth did i manage to sleep through FP1 and FP2. how did i do that?!?

    So Nelsinho must be thanking his lucky stars Brawn managed to buy it out. Otherwise, he’d be out of a job… {Comment #16}

I think he'll last until one of the following criteria are met:

    1) Alonso leaves Renault

    2) Renault leaves Renault

    3) Renault's junior development driver produces a credible, GP2-race-winning replacement who is willing to sign a management contract with Flavio

    4) A big name (e.g. Hamilton) gets sacked/loses his job

So I think he'll either be gone by Spain or make it into at least 2010, depending on McLaren's fate on April 29.

Just read that, made me laugh. Silly man

The article on Autosport ends on such a great note as I said earlier with Barrichello's quote. I really like how he addressed the comments. Still shocked at why Flav would make such an absurd and unecessary said of quotes, not so much shocked at Flav, but more shock at how unecessary and derogatory he seemed at them.

  • Lukeh17/04/2009 at 11:05

Ah, but was Flavio Briatore looking for something to prove to Renault's board that they were making progress by passing new milestones? Someone with Flavio's mind and tongue could easily come up with that if he needed to get out of a sticky corner quickly...

On this occasion, though, it won't help. Flavio just looks silly for kicking someone when he's up.

Just had a though - could Flavio's statements mean something else?

If you can't beat them, copy them.

Forget about 2009. Freeze the car. Put all your focus on 2010 instead.

It worked for Brawn - it can work for Renault. But will they have to lose their manufacturer too? ;)

  • Dom17/04/2009 at 11:52

Forget about 2009. Freeze the car. Put all your focus on 2010 instead.

Renault probably don't have that much patience. And if Fernando leaves them for Ferrari, I can't see that team staying in F1...

  • Journeyer17/04/2009 at 11:55

Renault probably don’t have that much patience. And if Fernando leaves them for Ferrari, I can’t see that team staying in F1…

Well, Honda left Brawn, it's not hurting them too much right now. ;) Besides, this team was Toleman or Benetton before it was ever Renault.

Fernando leaving would be the bigger issue, though - but I'm thinking they can hire a Jarno Trulli (if Toyota go for Kazuki or Kamui) or even a Rubens Barrichello (if Brawn indeed drop him after this season).

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 11:56

I’ve just been thinking about something. Looking back at the GTR2 PC game, F1 mods didn’t include full pit crews which meant there were only 2 mechanics changing all 4 tyres, one on each side. Could this not work for F1? It might make the racing more exciting because with less people working on the car, it’s more of a race to get the stop done which means more chances of mistakes. I reckon it could work, what about you guys?

  • Dom17/04/2009 at 11:58

How I see it - the only reason Renault are keeping that team in F1 is because they have a contract with a double world champion.

Well, Honda left Brawn, it’s not hurting them too much right now.

Brawn had people who were determined to keep the team running, and they only just managed it. Flavio would probably say "that's enough" and go and focus on the football...

  • Jon Waldock17/04/2009 at 11:58

Flavio might, but Pat Symonds won't. Can you say Symonds GP?

How I see it - the only reason Renault are keeping that team in F1 is because they have a contract with a double world champion.

That is probably true. But perhaps Renault have realized the error of their ways whenever they'd pull out in the past? They have admitted that pulling out in 1997 was a big mistake.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:01

Like in nascar with only 2 guns and a few people?

Yup. I'd say 2 for tyres, 2 for fuel and the jack men. 6 mechanics as opposed to like 30. And what's wrong with using the radio to signal when to go rather than a lollipop? Indy doesn't use one. NASCAR doesn't use one (those overhanging numbers don't count), sportscars don't use one. V8 Supercars don't use one.

  • Pat W17/04/2009 at 12:01

I would say have one tyre changer per wheel, two refuellers (because that thing is heavy), plus the chief mechanic looking over the car. What more do you need? Do you need 25 guys there? No.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:02

Exactly! Like I said above you'd need 6 or 7 at most. And it is a cost cutting measure. Less mechanics have to travel to the circuit - I think.

  • Journeyer17/04/2009 at 12:04

Exactly! Like I said above you’d need 6 or 7 at most. And it is a cost cutting measure. Less mechanics have to travel to the circuit - I think.

But then they'd have to lay off people. That would mean their claim of being a cottage industry in itself that employs a lot of people would be weakened.

  • Pat W17/04/2009 at 12:04

Exactly! Like I said above you’d need 6 or 7 at most. And it is a cost cutting measure. Less mechanics have to travel to the circuit - I think.

I was thinking about the cost cutting... Most of the guys in the stops also have other jobs which are not replaceable. Team truckie, the guy who sorts the tyres before the race, the guy who sorts the spares. There was a thing about it in Autosport last season showing a pic of a Red Bull and explaining what each man did. I think there were nearly 30 people I could knock it down to 15 or so.

They ran a historic meeting with yellow flags permanently showing at the area where the tunnel is. It's a complete farce. They should not have been given any safety certificate never mind one that allows such a stupid situation.

I'd disagree with one mechanic per wheel. One per side would be better and more exciting. It puts more pressure on and makes it a proper race to get the wheels changed. Plus if I'm honest, some of those mechanics could do with the run-around ;)

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 12:07

Renault probably don’t have that much patience. And if Fernando leaves them for Ferrari, I can’t see that team staying in F1…

The Renault board's decision is not going to be affected by whether or not Alonso is signed. If it makes financial and political sense they will be there if it doesn't they will quit.

No re-fuelling. One or two to change tyres. Pneumatic jacks operated by the tyre changers. One lollipop man for safety. Radios can fail

No, F1 still has to have the fastest tyre changes in town. And I'd lose the jackmen and install air pressure rams in the cars, as they have in IndyCar and touring car. They aren't used now because of the weight - so make it mandatory.

But there are a lot of guys just sitting there not doing much "just in case" something happens. Keep the fire extinquishers, lose the others.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 12:11

Petitions don't work. The only way it will happen if someone convinces Bernie it was his idea.

With no re-fuelling, they'd have to increase the size of the tanks which means an increase in the minimum weight of the car, wouldn't it?

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:15

This is what I don't understand - how they can they work out which teams will "improve" throughout the season when the BATracer season will be over within the next couple of real life races.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:26

This is what I don’t understand - how they can they work out which teams will “improve” throughout the season when the BATracer season will be over within the next couple of real life races.

The upgrade system is random, so there is no guarentee every team will get one and there is no specific order. If your car does receive one, then consider yourself fortunate.

  • Amy17/04/2009 at 12:27

Ahh OK, I thought it was some sort of reflection of real life but random makes far more sense.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:28

Just had a gander at the upgrades in the game options, and BMW's upgrade is 3 times bigger than Williams'.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:30

Ahh OK, I thought it was some sort of reflection of real life but random makes far more sense.

The carset is made as realistic as possible, but it's not fully realistic on things like upgrades. If it was, then the McLaren would have a sizeable upgrade in China due to the diffuser and front wing this weekend, Toyota would have received a small one as well for their front wing and so would Brawn, Ferrari and Williams for their new minute aero details.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 12:32

You can change the upgrades if you own the game as you wish, so in effect I have the power to take away Williams and BMW's upgrades and level the field again. But I wouldn't do that. Besides, the upgrades have only made both cars merely thousandths faster, although the BMW's gives it nearly a hundredth.

  • Amy17/04/2009 at 12:33

I'm feeling tormented by the tennis right now, for once I don't have a preferred player and would like both Verdasco and Djokovic to win

from what I hear Wimbledon is almost impossible to get tickets to Centre Court which is a shame. Tickets here were still on sale for all the big matches right up to the day of the games.

Melbourne has a big screen in a square in the city where they play big sports events and the atmosphere is awesome. This was the crowd for the Nadal v Federer final. One of my friends watched the Grand Prix there this year, I wish they showed all 17 races!

The main weight gain would be making the car a little bigger to carry the weight. The tank itself would make very little difference.

  • me17/04/2009 at 13:33

I have the most threatening uni finance forms ever in front of me. The very first thing it says is ‘You MUST fill out these forms IN BLOCK CAPITALS ONLY’, which is just basically screaming at me at the loudest voice possible!

They are pretty much the worst forms you will ever have to fill in. Have you had your inside leg measurement done recently? You'll probably be needing it.

  • RG - Doing it for Timo17/04/2009 at 13:34

Guess what came through my e-mail from F1 Racing

'What question do you want to ask Timo Glock?'

    Hmmm?

  • Christine17/04/2009 at 13:34

    Hmmm?

    Ooooooh.

This is my third time doing them because they just send the same thing every year... it's so annoying...

Looking at the car comparison on BAT, BMW got a large upgrade as opposed to Williams.

Brawn, Williams and Toyota are all still faster than BMW :P

  • Lukeh17/04/2009 at 13:38

    Photocopier?

I wish I had that idea last year now. They send the exact same forms in March or so each year and it's always filling out the same stuff that you can't find the information of, ie. course module numbers, reference numbers to module leaders, indidivudal grade allocation marks, really ridiculous stuff that has no indiciation to your financial situation with uni.

  • chris evans17/04/2009 at 13:40

really ridiculous stuff that has no indiciation to your financial situation with uni.

    unlike your inside leg measurement.

sorry. it wasn't disbelief, it was... you haven't quoted a comment and i'm checking what you're referring too. i got carried away with the question marks.

am now hoping the answer is "jenson no longer delivers since he new found success in races that don't finish properly, however i can do a great deal on postman pat ones".

  • Stuart C17/04/2009 at 15:23

Hark at your cynicism! They put their dictaphone next to yours and then sit in a corner. Even for important people like Ross Brawn.

Was his choc for Waitrose? It looked good. We had a Waitrose open here yesterday, replacing the Scummerfields, I may have to investigate - Bridport has gone upmarket!

It was done on a live podcast. A pair of disembodied hands kept appearing in front of the camera with assorted cake stuff.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 15:33

I've only tried his San Martin chocolate though, which is the Peruvian 70 bar. Still to try the Venezuelan 72 Rio Caribe. Hope he make a 100% cacao bar though. His chocolate is actually proper chocolate made with 100 year old machines the way it was and how it should be made. He actually did an experiment with some help from Brunel University and proved his cacao chocolate gives you more energy for longer when exercising than regular chocolate and that it encourages the body to burn off fat rather than what you've just eaten.

  • Christine17/04/2009 at 15:34

i think so? i was a long time ago. it wasn’t pre-made though, otherwise it would have been a really short show.

It wasn't a pre-made cake, but it was a cake mix. Only because I didn't want to have to supervise weighing of flour and mixing of butter whilst making a podcast at the same time. I was trying to minimise the mess.

Good. There's plenty worse circuits that have been on the calender for years, and despite it being quite similar to Bahrain and Malaysia, it sticks out the most of the 3.

Could this not work for F1? It might make the racing more exciting because with less people working on the car, it’s more of a race to get the stop done which means more chances of mistakes. I reckon it could work, what about you guys?

Sorry, Scott But I would rather see Steven's Roy's idea of no Pitstops whatsoever for the race than yours. The chief problem is that the tracks are to short for your idea to work. Your car would be lapped, and since the last person to make a pass on the leader to regain his lap back got sucker punched by the leader of the race afterwards when was the last attempt made to unlap oneself?

Your idea is not new, indeed it set the stage for one of F1 classic cases involving a botched pitstop of Fangio at the old Nurbergring, in which he had to drive like a suicide bomber to regain first place from 7 miles down. That bring Nurburgring, he was still on the lead lap. Now a days - Your two laps down and out of contention, unless you are at Spa, in which case you are 1 lap down and being shown the blue flag...

Nobody forced you to watch it.. I went to bed instead. But that’s because I don’t get the fascination with watching practice unless I’m trackside.

Amen brother. I enjoyed Practice 1, but when I heard that it wasn't Ant and Dave doing Practice 2, I thought "Sod this" and went to bed. Maurice Hamilton and his bizarre pronunciation of Klien can get lost.

okay i'm going to say that the new Brawn merchandise is going to be out sometime around the 16th June :) i shall explain my thinking behind this, i've just received a newsletter thing from jenson's website which included a promotional code to get 5% off of all current Brawn merchandise which expires on the 16th June. The new Brawn Merchandise is meant to be out in time for the British GP weekend which starts on the 19th June.. almost perfect timing. So yeah... random piece of possible news there,

i waffle much more when i'm ill sorry about that.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 18:37

The unprecedented demand for Brawn stuff isn’t entirely down to you….

Probably down to the fact that the team didn't exist until 10 weeks ago so there was no demand for something that didn't exist. A bit like the demand for invisible gold mountains now.

I thought he was hanging his hopes on trying again with Brawn - in which case those Merc connections could be handy.

Depends if Brawn are staying with Merc or switching to another supplier next year who will give them a better deal. Right now Brawn are third in line for Merc stuff and FIF1 have a far better deal.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 19:24

I'm already predicting the answer, but may as well ask. Anyone up for Skype tonight or not?

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 19:25

Depends if Brawn are staying with Merc or switching to another supplier next year who will give them a better deal. Right now Brawn are third in line for Merc stuff and FIF1 have a far better deal.

How can there be a better deal than Mercedes? It's the best engine on the grid. Why give it up?

  • cian17/04/2009 at 19:25

That could prove to be the kickstart to his career he needs. A car as good as the Brawn (here’s hoping) might just make him a future champion.

And hopefully not the other way - putting too much pressure on him too soon, thought the name Senna will always bring pressure. A year in an STR would be good for him I reckon. Let him get upto speed like with Vettel.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 19:26

How can there be a better deal than Mercedes? It’s the best engine on the grid. Why give it up?

Because FIF1 have Merc engine, gearbox, KERS McLaren people etc etc and Brawn get the engine

  • Dom17/04/2009 at 19:26

Merecdes might not want to supply three teams. They only did it in the first place to help save the team...

I'm still a bit puzzled as to why he's not in a testing role with them this season at least.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 19:26

Merecdes might not want to supply three teams. They only did it in the first place to help save the team…

Yeah, and look at the success it's bringing them.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 19:27

    No testing

  • Scott Woodwiss17/04/2009 at 19:28

    How stupid I am.

  • cian17/04/2009 at 19:28

I’m still a bit puzzled as to why he’s not in a testing role with them this season at least.

Yeah. It would be beneficial to bothwith a nice bit of publicity for the team. That being said of course, he'd never get to drive the bloody car with the test ban.

  • Dom17/04/2009 at 19:28

    No testing

That and they already have two test drivers.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 19:29

Yeah, and look at the success it’s bringing them.

Yes but they have a contract with FIF1 to be the second team. Brawn is not going to accept being third in line. Right now while the team is flying high he has to takes steps to convert that ino long term success and being behind FIF1 in the queue is not going to achieve that.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 19:30

Does the fact that a giraffe gives birth standing up do a better job of disproving evolution or God/intelligent design?

You would have thought that with Brawn in line to possibly win the title, should they do so Mercedes would want to increase their support.

I see what you mean about Force India, but McLaren have too much attention on them at the moment. Unwanted attention at that.

  • LadySnowcat17/04/2009 at 19:34

Does the fact that a giraffe gives birth standing up do a better job of disproving evolution or God/intelligent design?

It shows that those that gave birth lying down died out....

So it proves evolution .... and that giraffes are intelligent design...

They are, after all, even more beautiful than pandas...

I don't know if giraffes are into religion though... I've never asked...

  • Dom17/04/2009 at 19:35

    BMW

Really? I dunno. I was thinking about Toyota but then you get exactly the same situation with Mercedes. Ferrari's got reliability issues still, I think and as for Renault, it depends on the car. In a good car it's not so bad a la Red Bull, but in a bad car it's awful a la the factory effort.

You have to remember though that those who choose it are running an engine that'll be 4 years old. Unless the FIA allows for it to be brought up to spec, those that run it are going to be off the pace from the get go in my opinion.

  • LadySnowcat17/04/2009 at 19:47

A four year old engine that wasn't particularly reliable or competitive at the of that season.

Yeah it was. Easyjet were very good but we did have to shuffle some things around as we were over the weight limit - we got there in the end but we figured out that we bought 15 kilos of extra stff home :-D first thing we did when we arrived was get a good old hotdog and a beer! ;-)

    Just look at Gary Paffett.

    Yeah, look at Ralf.

Nah, he did that when he went to Toyota. Toyota's the retirement home for drivers.

It's it really odd thing CVT. Makes the cars just drone as it holds the engine at peak torque/power

Still prefer the sound of a proper gearbox though. Especially when linked to a DFV. ;)

The whole of that clip was spent waiting for a gear change. It's like waiting for someone to clear their throat. There is something unnatural about the sound of an engine note that doesn't change

The first 5 minutes were about the book, the rest were Jonathan Dimbleby trying to tear him a new one over RBS. The best bit was when Dimble asked him why he moved to Switzerland after he became famous, and Jackie replied that he didn't want to pay 93% tax when he could be dead next week and his family would be left with nothing!

    oops.

Did you not think of using google?

  • me17/04/2009 at 20:59

It was after I mentioned that I thought that I got more from the Ferrari store than the exhibit

in that case sir. yes, i really would like a guest post, because i have no idea how the two compare... even if you already explained it once (or more).

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 21:00

swear to god. is it a shop?

I think it's the owl again

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)17/04/2009 at 21:00

    The name of the exhibit?

    oh!!

    oops.

And that proves how pantstastic the exhibit was...

  • Salti17/04/2009 at 21:00

Hey, Gavin welcome back, glad you and Mrs Goat got back home safely :D

  • Salti17/04/2009 at 21:00

You were more bothered about defending a certain driver IIRC...

  • lou17/04/2009 at 21:01

    oh!!

    oops.

Mr C didn't you see the massive writing on the wall... saying 'Fast Forward, 20 ways F1 is changing our world.'

  • chris evans17/04/2009 at 21:01

in that case sir. yes, i really would like a guest post, because i have no idea how the two compare… even if you already explained it once (or more).

I'm pretty sure Gavin told us about the Ferrari store like, right after we left the museum.

  • me17/04/2009 at 21:02

    oh god... who?

    nope.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 21:02

Dave Gorman and Johnny Vegas deciding whether something is genius or not. What kind of parallel universe does that make sense in.

  • Lukeh17/04/2009 at 21:02

I thought the flying tin foil cylinder thing hanging in space part of the museum was more impressive than the f1 exhibit... and the dalek engines. :D

    Plus a spaceman! or astronaut!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)17/04/2009 at 21:03

Hey, Gavin welcome back, glad you and Mrs Goat got back home safely :D

Thanks - just a few more minutes on the train and then a short taxi ride to go... :-)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)17/04/2009 at 21:06

    oh god… who?

A certain driver who would definitely be too heavy to use KERS if he were still in F1..

I am confused. Vittorio Brambilla was the Monza Gorilla and his brother Tino also raced.

  • Andy Taylor17/04/2009 at 21:10

If the car in front is a Toyota how come you never win?

Because the car in front is being driven by Jarno Trulli.

Yeah sorry I got the wrong guy. I was thinking of Frolian Gonzalez. Wasn't Brambilla called the Monza Gorilla because a gorilla is also a term for a guy who tends to only be good at one circuit?

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 21:15

    Too heavy for KERS?

Fat Brummy with a dodgy moustache?

  • chris evans17/04/2009 at 21:16

sure. anyone who runs schumi off the road will always be a hero in my book.

Heh, just remembered the chat we had about how neither of us ever liked schumi, but how we'd both warmed to him since he retired. I also remember a couple of children running into you while we were talking.

  • Steven Roy17/04/2009 at 21:17

Yeah sorry I got the wrong guy. I was thinking of Frolian Gonzalez. Wasn’t Brambilla called the Monza Gorilla because a gorilla is also a term for a guy who tends to only be good at one circuit?

Not that I know of. He was as strong as a horse so it may have been something to do with that combined with having what was perceived to be an unsophisticated driving style. The term used then for such drivers was rock ape so the gorilla thing evolved from that I think.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)17/04/2009 at 21:18

    Too heavy for KERS?

Fat Brummy with a dodgy moustache?

No but I used him as a counter point. Mr C was talking about Montoya. He gave a good argument about how a certain person ruined his career.

  • Jeremy17/04/2009 at 22:42

Random rant: Why do people keep comparing free practice times at a circuit to the pole time from last/previous years? Qualifying is done with fuel in the tanks and the outright time isn't representative of best lap time ever. Compare it to the fastest times in various sessions. This will pad out your article even more!

It's always worth a look though, isn't it? I mean, you can't ever say, gosh they're so slow in FP compared to quali, but isn't it a useful indicator of whether the teams are pushing hard or just testing stuff out?

Sorry, not you. Other bloggers/journalists that should know better.

I know I have nothing to complain about compared to anyone who has had to get up at 2 in the morning etc. but I’m a bit grumbly this morning.

    Please forgive? :-)

I just got thrown out of the studio until I cheered up, so we can all be forgiven together :)

  • Jeremy17/04/2009 at 22:47

You should only ever do Q2 vs Q2, or FL vs FL.

    I disagree.

It’s always worth a look though, isn’t it? I mean, you can’t ever say, gosh they’re so slow in FP compared to quali, but isn’t it a useful indicator of whether the teams are pushing hard or just testing stuff out?

So give me the full story, not just an attention seeking one liner.

San Marino only for the onboard laps to see the drivers pushing, and for the brilliant atmosphere.

    Not for the racing.

I guess the key word here is compare. You are right, we should compare session to session but what I want is all the info in one neat package. Instead of "driver x is 3 tenths faster than last years pole time so far", I want all the times for the weekend so I know if the times being posted in FP2 are already faster than FP3 last year and if that's because the weather is better this year or similar.

But surely they open early? Over here, tapas is most popular at breakfast. Not sure about there, though. ;)

I was wondering why I was getting hungry, then changed tabs and found you guys talking about food :-)

In spain too but I think this one is more of a Spanish restaurant that does great Tapas too.

In the city there may be something but Londoners are usually only looking for coffee or a fried breakfast on a Saturday morning

Very good Spanish food, at that. We haven't even mentioned paella yet!

    A few times, yes. :)

I miss Barcelona now, Taps and an ice cold beer on the Ramblas, watching the world go by

Ahhhh yes. Just read up on Wikipedia. Apparently, our tapa is different from their tapa. We got it as a Spanish colony, yet the tapa seems to have changed on the boat going here. ;)

I wonder what Flibster will choose for his Spanish Breakfast when F1 reaches Barcelona. ;)

Is he having race specific food?

    What a great idea

Yup. I guess you didn't see him talk about him eating vegemite when we were in Australia?

    What a great idea

Very much so! It's a bit tricky to find the food, but it's a great way to learn about their culture. It's like F1 meets The Food Channel. ;)

    Sounds interesting though

"Filipino tapa (mostly made with beef, occasionally with venison or wild boar) is fried and eaten as a full meal, usually for breakfast with garlic-fried rice and fried eggs, along with a chili-vinegar dip."

Vegemite is not good but the Aussies swear by it

Very similar to English Marmite which is known for it's "love it or hate it nature"

  • Bassano Clapper18/04/2009 at 00:54

I wonder what he's going to eat for Bahrain?

No idea, to be honest. China is eeeeasy. ;)

Shawarma FTW! :D That became a fad here a few years ago - every street corner had them back then. ;)

    Sounds like a kebab

But that'd be for the British Grand Prix, surely?

  • Steven Roy18/04/2009 at 01:24

Entrant meaning team. Would this be relevant to the McLaren hearing and put ALL of the blame on them and not Lewis?

The entrant is responsible for the driver's behaviour. That has always been the case.
