We've had a pretty good, relaxing weekend at Sidepodcast Towers. Always busy, but nothing hectic, so we approach this week with trepidation. The Monaco GP weekend is fast approaching and the schedules will be mixed up with Free Practice on a Thursday. That's in the future though, today we've been discussing:
- We live streamed a recording of F1 Debrief yesterday. Apologies to anyone who thought there wasn't going to be a show. I did mention it in yesterday's daily thread, but it may not have been enough warning. We tend to do things at the last minute round here, but you can always catch the replay and the edited version should be up later today.
- It looks like Singapore are struggling to get the bookings they saw last year, with Business Times reporting that some of the big hotels have only a 30% occupancy rate for the F1 weekend. Many of the hotels are extending their earlybird booking schemes to try and encourage more trade.
- Red Bull ran through the streets of Hungary today, (as mentioned in the debrief above, and in F1 Minute yesterday) with Vettel in the RBR show car, and Buemi trying his hand at driving a NASCAR. For all intents and purposes, he didn't really like it, saying it was too heavy and didn't turn well. They don't have to though, do they?
That's all for now, please keep the news and thoughts coming, we love to hear what you're up to. I'll see you in the comments.
First post! :D
And my last of the night. I can now enjoy sleep and not have to get up just before 6! The extra hour will be lovely.
Night all :)
Good night, Scott. :)
i know who isnt going back to singapore. Me! It was so expensive though and i cant justify it again :(
I'd go back, but not this year. As you said, way too expensive.
The hotels are charging rip-off prices, even when the recession hadn't fully hit us yet. Now that it has, and this is the 2nd (rather than the 1st) night race, they need to make some serious adjustments. They may be better than Valencia, but they're no Monaco.
Apparently the big hotels only have 30% bookings ...so it might get cheaper
Just realised that it was on the start of today's post as well... doh!
You saw it somewhere else, then? ;) Can you share the link? Christine's link is only available for free after 6 PM SGT. :D
Ouch - lots of comments to catch up on.
Almost all of yesterdays....
Still - will give me something to do on the train to London in 5 hours time.
TTFN peeps and peepettes.
yeah accommodation is the killer. Everyone i spoke to last year was putting up with it because it was the "first ever" night race but werent willing to pay it again in the future
But if Singapore really want to repeat last year's smashing success, they need to entice the locals. Last year, out of those who bought tickets, there were more locals than tourists. Many who bought tickets and watched last year did it more out of curiosity than genuine interest. Now that they've seen it, will they come back? The organizers need to convince them to come back.
This year, Singapore has a good chance of being the round where Jenson will seal his world championship (if he stays on current form). Let's see if Singapore can give Jenson a full house.
Later Flibster. :)
I've been looking at my history and rss feeds and i cant find it.
Maybe it was from here afterall
Yup, that's true. I did pay 200 pounds for my accommodation. It was near the circuit (no need to MRT, just walk), but the room was positively tiny. Just enough room for a bed and a bathroom. Such rates won't entice people to come back...
The first year is always pricey, Abu Dhabi just looks scary at the moment, but they soon come down to a reasonable level. (hopefully.) Bahrain didnt look too bad this year, i was tempted to go.
Joe said Bahrain was good value for money, as did our backpacker friend.
Unfortunately, as me and Amy are from Asia, our options are limited (unless Wolf takes us with him whenever he watches a GP in Europe? :D). The only good ones near our area are Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. China is OK (but off-track stuff is a concern), while Japan is great (but also very expensive).
Yeah, her blog is really good, and almost inspired me to go. No Spain updates yet? hope she made it
Nope, sadly. Really wanna read how she did in Spain...
I think Singapore has a better chance to bring in the locals than perhaps Malaysia or shanghai, when your streets get closed off for 3 days, you want something to make up for it,its so in-your-face hopefully people will go. they sold the first set of tickets in 4 days, so hopefully there will be a big crowd
Very good point there, Nick. But those early bird tickets were sold at 50% off, so you'd expect them to sell out quickly. Selling the remaining tickets (which are actually MORE expensive than last year) will be a more difficult matter.
the guy i met up with who worked in sg said the ticket prices are out of reach for most locals. A ticket for pit straight is 3x the price for pit straight in melbourne which is absolutely ridiculous.
times three. TIMES THREE! and these guys work in SG, their salaries over there are HUGE. that should tell you how expensive it WAS last year, and now, they're even MORE expensive! Goodness.
More expensive? you would hope they had learnet.
although i expect Bernie has one of those 10% a year increase clauses.
the problem is in 10 years time he will have been to everywhere that thought they needed a gp and couldnt afford it, and have to start again
whether he is in charge at that point is another matter, hopefully he will look to leave the sport some sort of legacy
they sold out last year, so they may have been hoping that people would buy even at a higher price.
despite this, i still expect the stands to be at least 80% full. if, as i suspect, jenson gets a chance to clinch the title in singapore, that number will go up to 90-95%.
Perhaps but if you look at Shanghai, Malaysia, Bahrain the first years crowds have always been higher than subsequent ones.
the luxury of street circuits with temporary stands is they can do a melbourne and not build half of them, then call it a sell out. Watching old melbourne races and comparing the stands to 2009 is shocking, there are thousands of seats that literally dont exist anymore.
Very true. But I guess they were hoping that as F1's only night race, things would be different for them. As it turns out, it wasn't.
That sounds like the FIA method of problem solving. Don't find ways to sell more tickets. Take awat some seats. Tells you everything that is wrong with the way the sport is run
And for Singapore, that process has already begun. Barring any last-minute additions (which I doubt will happen this year), the following stands are gone:
Raffles (at the T8/T14 intersection)
Esplanade Steps
Marina (where we sat)
Singapore Flyer
To be fair to the organizers, I'm sure they try new ways to sell more tickets. But in an area with limited interest, they can only sell so much. Taking away seats is an exercise in damage limitation.
And if they lose any more stands, the government may ask them to shorten the circuit...
Cutting prices would be better. That way people get in the habit of going and when things pick up they can increase the prices.
They offered early bird tickets which were up to 20% off the actual prices. I think that's as low as they can go without operating at a loss after paying Bernie.
I meant 20% off, not 50%. :D
The government need to focus more on what they want the race to do... look good. Packed grandstands do that. F1 is expensive to host, but surely they knew that before. The same people, the singaporians(?) pick up the bill regardless of people going or staying away, they might as well give them a show for their money.
It's Singaporeans. :D Again, to be fair to the organizers, they have done a fantastic job organizing the GP, as I can attest to last year (and probably Amy too).
They can't rely on people's taxes paying for too much of that; while this is a virtual one-party state, the ruling PAP wouldn't like losing too much of their revenue in taxes to Bernie...
BRB, off to work, I'm on Asia hours today. ;)
Have fun!
They could sell the existing tickets at close to the current price then do the others at last minute low prices or family deals etc.
i love wolfram|alpha.
madness!
actually, this answer may be even better.
i got sent home from work hoorah. I wish every day was a 5 hour day.
I guess when you're king you just have to know those things:D
I entered my birth date I figured out I hade very nice anniversary yesterday when it came to days and weeks :-)
Dank's got the scoop on the Red Bull thingy in Hungary yesterday:
http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/05/17/vettel-on-the-streets-of-szeged/
Can't watch the vid right now though...
G'morning all.
How are you feeling Lukeh?
Alive, which is good! A lot better than yesteray at least, which is handy as I have a lot to do today.
Excellent. I say it was the Tremayning which started the recovery process.
The medical profession has missed this vital new cure out me thinks :D
morning all, i'm pleased you're feeling a little better Lukeh. how is everyone else?
gosh i love study leave, i've already done a lovely morning of revision and am now having a lovely cup of tea and a break :)
morning :)
Morning all ...painfully early start
Hey guys - I got us a shoutout on Midweek Motorsport :)
Oooh, well done! What did it say?
i know who isnt going back to singapore. Me! {Comment #2}
That's a pity. I wanted to go to Singapore and see a friend (who's offered me accommodation as well), but can barely afford to go to Silverstone. The cost of Silverstone to me would barely cover my flight to Singapore, let alone my food and other expenses while there.
I just asked if they could give us a shoutout as we all listen in - so they did ;)
Going to try and edit and drop.io it later - but it's last week's episode...
Hmm? From James Allen on twitter
#f1 - Ferrari injunction against 2010 rules being heard tomorrow in Paris.
Bit sudden...
Hmm? From James Allen on twitter
#f1 - Ferrari injunction against 2010 rules being heard tomorrow in Paris.
Bit sudden {Comment #59}
But predictable - I'm pretty sure the internet has been saying the date will be Tuesday since Saturday. It's just that it's been hidden under many paragraphs of frustrated comments about the state of play.
ahh, that could be why I haven't seen it then :P
I knew it was gonna be heard on Tuesday since... Friday night, your time.
I appear to be 3 days behind everyone else. Apologies :(
No worries. We didn't know that two-tiers was gone until Saturday, with so many things going on. :D
and Pitpass does not know till now that not only Bernie but also Max said so :-)
there's a reason they've lost a LOT of their readership...
cheers sir. any idea if the same episode contained this information:
http://twitter.com/MidwkMotorsport/statuses/1829474143
because i tried to listen to last wednesday's show and it's, ummm, a little on the distorted side.
i see. and because of this the guys have concluded usf1gpe are dead in the water?
Umm... Yep! Although Nick Daman wants to see it happen.
My view personally is that they could, and I think that Lola, Dallara, Prodrive, Penske and Panoz are also possible (for various reasons)...
who is this hottest driver, anyway? senna? hulkenberg? grosjean?
It's got to be Bruno Senna hasn't it? Franck's not in the LMS is he?
i just don't believe lola is anything other than a trophy team for max to wheel out any time he needs a positive sounding press release to beat current f1 teams over the head with.
if he was hot, why isn't he in F1 already? i'm surprised he's still a hot commodity even after he's disappeared into the LMS...
i don't think this is the lola of the 90s anymore. martin birrane is a lot richer than the original owners and they're in a better position now than they were in 1996.
that said, how much time will they have before they run out of money?
You are probably right ... but the thing is they have the resources to do it and they are very smart guys - they make some very good racecars now...
What about the others BTW? They are all competent at running a decent racecar and have the know-how to build a single seater car. The only odd one out there is Prodrive but DR has previous F1 experience...
Riiiiight, i'm finally home, how is everyone? good day?
I'm currently preparing a 5 minute teaching task on Karting for an interview day i'm going too, it's quite alot of fun! Anyone got anything they think i should put in it?
they have the resources... if... the 2010 rules go ahead as written.
and that's a gigantic IF right now. But Clive at F1Insight did say that Lola has committed to 2010 even if the plans aren't all that firm yet - so that may mean that they have more than 40M in the bank.
That just means they're taking a big gamble - bigger than they did when they entered F1 last time...
There was also a rally car driven by an austrian guy, but only the F1 car did anything vaguely exciting - but a few doughnuts didn't look that great. To be frank(!) it looked like a boring procession of what i saw. I saw Vettel and Buemi being interviewed on Austrian TV on Sunday night. very inconvenient because I was about to leave the house.
agreed.
Birrane put a lot of money to revive Lola. I don't think he'd just enter F1 without knowing what he was doing - it's his money on the line...
It's a gamble, but a calculated one.
They clearly think they've understood the mistakes from last time, but it still seems to me to be a massive gamble to invest in f1 when you have so little idea about what will happen to 2010.
What worries me here is that Lola always do better when they do stuff kinda in the background - for some reason when they try and move into the forefront they get it wrong in a big way...
maybe occupying grid positions at the back is just perfect for them...
whoops my 'come home from work early' was then accompanied by 'fall asleep for 9 hours and miss the whole day'
could be. but again, i can't see current teams being willing to relinquish any existing income to support lola who'll likely only ever come last.
not only do the likes of lola have to deal with the possibility that max's proposals could be thrown out, they also have to gamble on bernie doing as he says.
sportscar racing is a much safer bet right now.
Funny that - exhaustion will do that to ya :(
uh-oh... someone will be up all night. :P
And they are doing Brilliantly there right now!
Tennis, huh? ;)
which may be why they want to do something else - they want to prove they're not a one-trick pony.
the french open is going to kill me
and wimbledon begins... 2 or 3 weeks after that ends? :P
They already have though haven't they? I mean, they made an excellent A1GP car - better than Ferrari and they made great Champcars...
hehe:
"To make matters worse The Mole has discovered that "the Commies down at the BBC" (as The Colonel calls them) have tried to usurp his position by inventing their own F1 Mole."
linky
:D
but they weren't competing against anybody there - they are one-make series. they want to prove that they can compete with other makes of car and do just as well.
Hahaha!
The mole had been gone for so long i was almost convinced it was Andrew Benson!
Kemblewatch (add your own jingle)
I'm not there today but the office say that Brawn are testing at Kemble.
Will check and let you know...
Rob
OK - looks like Jenson Button is the driver and apparently the team wait for the rain and then go out...
Rob Sinfield
that doesn't sound like a team struggling for money, does it? ;)
a very encouraging sign, indeed. :)
they go out IN the rain? very interesting. i think they're continuing their quest to better that Red Bull in the wet...
thanks for the info :)
he IS?! *goes to figure out how far away Kemble is*
nearly THREE hours away!! :( ahhh man!
:'(
No problem - I'm there tomorrow, will let you know if Williams turn up.
lou?! where did YOU come from? :P
Its probably quite difficult for them to simulate the effects of rain, so good on them
awww... poor lou. i'm sure you'd have gone there if you'd known ahead of time...
i come from somewhere that is no where near kemble.
it's not often that teams choose to test in the wet, never mind in actual rain rather than an artificially wetted track...
if i'd have known i would have banned mum from golfing today and i would be there right now....
Afternoon all.
i mean - you weren't here, then a mention of Jenson and WHAM! :D
I'm guessing about three hours away. Pity for you Lou. Have you tried calling Brawn and asking if they could let you know next time they are nearby. Seriously, ring them up. make friends :)
They normaly test so much they get wet days by default.
Its just under 2 hours away. If id known this morning i might have gone
oooh i see. hehe well... erm... where jenson is mentioned i will magically appear :P that and i've had the doohickey open while revising and it's lunch time :)
ohhhh... is thaaaat it... eh? hehehe. :P
make friends with them? seriously i have enough problems with nerves whilst being on the podpanel let alone ringing up an amazing f1 team.
sure, why not? the worst that can happen is someone saying, "no.".
:)
haha seriously, i didn't talk to heikki when he was a metre away for fear of 'bothering him'
"Dear Brawn, Jenson rocks. Please could you come and test ourside my house. also, Jenson is awesome. Yours, lou.
PS. Rubens is also awesome."
honestly i'd just pass out on the phone or something, i'd be waaay too nervous.
i talked to jenson, and it worked out just fine! :D
haha :) i would write to them no problem
hey lukeh, good driving lesson?
Brilliant! :D
Awww! :P
if i was to be within 5 feet of Jenson i know i would loose all ability to speak...
I know it's freaky but you're just talking to the team - find out if there is a way you can get told about these sorts of things in advance - call Jules(!) or the PR department. teams need fans. they will help you. Do it Lou!!
heheh i talked to heikki at the autograph signing, i just didn't want to bother him at other times :D
Before anybody sets off - I have not seen them there for myself, though my colleague in the office is an F1 nut and is sure it is JB.
Rob Sinfield
send them an email then! or get a friend or someone to call up for you.
ehh.. so and so. It went well but 10 minutes of sheer stupidty and completely inane decisions from my point of view have upset me a little bit. Bit of a confidence shaker going into a few weeks before test isn't nice...
I was within a foot. He won't bite. :P
I'd agree with this one. Brawn is more fan-friendly than the other teams too - that would count for a lot. :)
I know the feeling. I was once hanging out in a radio station with a friend and then everyone else left and it was just me and a famous australian musician. i had nothing to say...and i was a fan. after a few minutes of awkward silence, he started to chat to me, and then i started telling him which track off the CD should be the next radio single. And as it turns out, they took my advice.
Oooh - that is VERY cool. :D But were you the only one who chose that track? ;)
keep trying. Even Jenson had to start somewhere :)
erm.. maybe i'll do it after exams or something.....
Who was that?
Haha awesome. Must remember that so when I meet rubens I can advise him to go an afro or something.
Its even worse to be like that on the morning of the test.
After failing twice i realised that it wasn't so much about your driving but about how confident you could come across.
ah i'm sure you'll test will go fine :)
Don't worry mate - it happens!
he did - with a kart. :P
I like to think yes. I still have his autograph where he actually wrote something like "thanks for recommending Green Limosine for the next single. I'll tell [Michael] Gudinski (head of Mushroom Records) to release it".
Ooooh... that's a keeper! :D
Michael Spiby from The Badloves
this is perfect procrastination :)
erm, you could say that. tbh i probably need that long to think about what the hell i would say.
Pity the band faded into obscurity after one or two records. They probably got some bad advice about which singles to release...
I think it'd be..
Dear jenso*faints*
Who needs a record company when you've got a Scott in Italy
Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way I could find out about BrawnGP events before they are on. eg testing, promotion events.
Lou.
P.S. I have a 30 million dollars to invest.
I worked on french radio for 6 months. My friend had a show on a small radio station, and I used to do 10-20 minutes via skype or the public phone of which every city i was in. cohosted once or twice when i was in town too. lot's of fun.
*chokes on tea*
well apart from the last bit i may consider it, and find some contact details and have a go...
http://www.brawngp.com/contactus.asp
hahaha alright i'll have a go a bit later. i suppose it can't hurt to contact them...
copacabana now playing on radio 2... grrrr.
yay! :)
her name was lola, she was a showgirl. :D
love that song! :)
there was blood and a single gunshot, but just - who - shot - who? :D
yeah!!!! I don't want to push you into it Lou, but a while ago I realised how much you can find out things if you call the big companies - eventually a nice human being will answer the phone in their small department and be happy to help you out. PR = money to these business. and as someone wrote below, Brawn needs fans.
Awesome! :D
brawn already have a LOT of fans, but you can never have enough. :)
Fans = money :D
Especially when you look at how much Brawn merchandise costs!
yet it sells out in minutes!!!
people always want to support whos winning :D
cheers rob. kemblecams: http://www.kemblecam.co.uk/
weather looks awful.
I see a tractor!
Tractor Monthly might be very popular there :)
the french are everywhere!
they're testing the earth car?
quick description of the cameras for anyone who's never been to kemble.
- east cam looks down to the start of the runway. the car will do a u-turn there.
- south east cam looks across the middle of the runway. you can see what i assume to be the team's awning in the top right.
- south cam shows the same awning in the top left.
- south west cam shows the cafe where i sometimes have a coffee and is the best place to sit and watch f1 cars.
co-incidentally the cameras were "undergoing maintenance" when mclaren tested.
hehe. "We'll test our car and upgrade your cameras at the same time". good deal.
I wonder if toyota employees just stand in front of cameras when they test?
haha, I can just see them getting the whole factory to line up alongside the runway to obscure the view!
Thanks mr c :)
:D
Thanks for the camera guide...how you can see an awning there is beyond me though!
would make a nice group photo :)
how come I've only got three cameras now? maintenance?!
nah it's back now :) i just lost a cam when i checked. still can see nothing...
Will there be an edited highlights reel? :D
the tractor has moved. i am not keeping a close eye on the cameras though perhaps something happened. but i think not. if Lou calls Brawn, we can ask her :)
Kovalainen not "dwelling on his sorrow"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75422
thats good, I'll dwell on it for him.
i haven't seen much tbh, but i'm doing some history revision so i'm not really watching closely. haha and i'm not ringing Brawn, may send them an old fashioned letter or maybe an email though.
What a bizarre phrase...
if you want a quick response, send an email. but if you send an old-fashioned letter, perhaps you should consider following Igor's example and including a nice hi-res BGP001 pic for Jenson to autograph. ;)
you and lou make quite the pair. :D
so if Heikki won once in Hungary 2008, and Jenson once in Hungary 2006, by my calculations, Heikki should win the first 4 of 5 races in 2011. Sweet.
Paul diResta
I am not here.
I signed up for twitter yesterday and today the fith driver is following me. Does that make me number 4? Of course I am now following him so have I lost two places. Twitter is confusing.
in the meantime, heikki's 2009 and 2010 will be quite awful...
erm, hi invisable steven ;)
Oh yeah! Him!
Whatever. :P
No, erm, you're confusing. :P
me too. I think they are stalking sidepodders.
hes certainly starting out that way. :(
no worries ;) 2011 will be his year, just stick by him :P
yep same, i didn't know that they were actual mclaren till it was mentioned in the comments a while a go.
Drink!
Can't say Hi. I am not here
I am confused. Quite difference
Nice to see Amy aeake for a change. Too much sleep is bad for you. :D
i think this is becoming quite the hangout spot for some of the F1 folks. maybe a couple are still lurking around...? :D
Final spacewalk of the mission is underway
its after midnight, of course I'm awake :D
course you're not :P
Assuming Jenson isn't winning that year of course. ;)
awake. I think I will trade this kyboard in for a Dymo labeller
You just said Hi. :P
She accidentally fell asleep too early. Now she might be up all night. ;)
oh of course :D
if anyone is in doubt over why they are fixing the hubble space telescope, check out these pics
I totally should have tried the Nico trick, I only wanted to nap for like an hour. Then all of a sudden its 9 hours later and I'm confused as to whether its 9.30am or 9.30pm.
And you're going to work tomorrow - that can't be good.
hmm yes I might go have a bath and then try and go to sleep even though I've only been awake 3 hours. Good night sidpodland!
Night :)
nothing interesting on Kemble cams. I have a look every 10 minutes...
you will be back, i tell ya! :P
but since i'm off to bed myself, good night. ;)
see ya buddy.
have a nice nap J
They've added a sound system?
a plane took off about 5 mins ago..
After opening the voting for Eurovision it seems a logical move.
ever get the feeling we might be tricked into watching grass grow?
i'm not watching the grass, i'm watching the run way, maybe that's where you are going wrong? :P
Shouldn't you be studying instead of picking on stupid things I say? ;)
hehehe *runs away* :P
Hello there. Hows things?
See Lou, that's how it happens :)
hows was the maths test RG?
Hey RG
Bloomin easy.
Too easy. Half expecting the examiners to flood us, attack us with lions and enclose us in a ring of fire for the Calculator Paper.
Ahh, maths exams, what a cirus.
Circus. :(
:D
Is that a 'head in the clouds' reference? :D
i was thinking like Mastercard or something.
Glad the test was okay RG. do you have more exams at the moment, or is this the only one at the moment?
3 down, 3 to go. Though next one not for two weeks.
Oh I don't know. I'm in my own little world at the moment, a world with penguins with pingu bags, flying pigs singing Pink Floyd and Rubens Barruchello statues everywhere. I like my little world.
So nothing but relaxing then? :) I really don't miss exams.
When you did the driving practice earlier today did you breathe in too much CO2?
That could be it :P
Apart from three days next week, I'm revising the rest of the time.
You should head up to Kemble and breathe some of that good air - i can see a little patch of blue sky now. and no f1 cars...
do you mean Monaco?
I'm going down to York on the sunday after the race. So then, Monday and Tuesday
Nice bit of scheduling :)
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhh!
It's nice to be home...
Afternoon :) whats up?
NASA is messing with my mind. They claim that they are an hour ahead of schedule on the spacewalk.
kemble news. east cam now showing a rainbow.
assume it's pointing to jenson's pot of gold.
Meetings in the office from 7:30 am until 4pm...
2 new clients and then a staff meeting...
I'm going to be spending a week in Kenya installing some kit and doing some training - and more disasterously - I'm getting 2 assistants!
hehe :)
Has it really been that much of a slow news day? ;)
'afternoon everyone, anything going on?
Hi Joe. If we're talking about rainbows, possibly not. Somebody posted that Brawn was going to do some tests at Kemble, UK today but nobody has seen anything F1 related. well we've seen tractors, planes, rainbows but not much.
And a tractor too was on the field at one point
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75420
Max reckons half the grid will miss the deadline for entries and the FIA will happily sanction a breakaway series should one be set up. No doubt so that he can interfere with that and play one off against the other
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21475.html
Looks like it is not a good time to be a Toyota exec.
Oh and a new column form the other Mole. I haven't read it yet.
Lisa McCormick tremaying on twitter. Should have had her on the show yesterday
Oooo you get to have PFYs and become a BOFH then!
Wow. but you're still not here Steven? :)
I will be here soon to find out what you are saying about me
I distinctly remember everybody except me making lots of nasty comments.
I'm already a BOFH. :D
It's the PFY's I'm not happy about. Got to do interviews... Then we're setting up a new office nearer to me so we can all work together... :(
Nice Mole column on grandprix.com/ political scandal in Valencia. I do hope Bernie is in trouble.
I just hope its the end of the race, 1 Spanish boredomdrome is enough, although the bridge did make it a little bit better than Barcelona
That is what the Mole is predicting. I just hope they haul Bernie through the courts as well for interfering in local elections and anything wlse they can throw at him
Ah.
Ah.
Ah....
Hand pick them for their ability to 'do-as-told', 'cover', and 'make tea'??
But does getting your own office nearer home mean that you also get to choose the kit and decor (plus associated hours, music choices, food suppliers....)? :-D
But 'yay' to being a BOFH :-DD
Hey peeps, got an e-mail back from Tom McLoughlin! :D
and?
ask them "what's 16+25-4?"
any of them who say "whatever you tell me it is" get's the job.
It looks like Nico Hüüüüüülkenberg will not be getting a Williams drive any time soon.

i'm sure tom's going to appreciate his email being made puclic scott!!
I love picture 2. They are lifting Atlantis and the banner behind it says we are right behind you Endeavour. OOPS
Ah. Erm...oops?
Woah!
When the shuttle returns we usually get two really loud sonic booms. Rattles everything in the house
Anyways, have you guys seen the new Brawn GP gear? It's awesome! :D
i think they keep all the banners there from all the missions - look across to the right - there are heaps of them
I am very jealous..
Pic 8 WOW. I didn't know people got to go on top of the beanie cap.
:o
No...
Hmmm... Do as told and cover sound good. Make tea - maybe for each other - I have always done my own. Don't trust anyone enough to get the tea or coffee right.
As for the office - I'm hoping it'll be one of the vacant flats across the road with the big balconys - bbq's in summer. ;)
I will be involved in kitting it out and the decor - several large plasma screens and sofa's - full kitchen and will be fully rigged out for deathmatch games. ;)
Never seen a launch, I'll put that in the to-do list
where?
thanks for the details :)
So Florida rather than Boston then?? :-P
:D !
http://www.onpole.com/brawn_gp/c244075-1.html
think you've only got 7 to go. Hopefully I'll get there this year or early next year but these things are so hard to organise a trip around because their schedule gets moved around so much. if i move to the us, it's number 1 on the list of things to do.
You will need to do it quick because there are only about ten or fewer launches before the shuttle goes out of service
actually, there are a few jobs I've seen down there but...well..we'll see. which reminds me, think there was a job to apply for this week...
Ohhhhh myyyyy gooooooooooooood.
ooooh......
I thought there wasn't a duracell cap... but its there as sponsor tba...
I know! I want the new cap and t-shirt! It's exactly how I wanted it to be! :D
I'm watching GT Academy on Motors TV.
I think the brawn shirt just overshadows the Jenson one.
That site good to buy from?
Ahhh they're just preorders at the moment :( Shame, I'd by a shirt or two but I need to keep money for Goodwood...
That is possibly the best set of big pics yet. So many great ones that it is hard to pick a favourite
sidepodspace update
Astronauts completing their final payload bay clean up before returning to the shuttle.
I think I like number 16, cos it's unusual.
ASCII character again? This time on Lukeh's comment. Seems to be random
Have fixed it. Thanks.
It looks like someone picked a spot and set up just to get that.
Crawler :D
Whoever told me about last.fm needs confining....
I have just managed to waste a whole working afternoon *not* working.....
Although, maybe I should redefine what I'm supposed to be doing? ;-)
omg omg omg omg omg!!!
Yeah that may have been me, or MrC. Can't remember.
Evening all. Anyone know why a computer would lock up for no reason, other it being a PC?
hehe.
and breathe
you can buy merchandise at goodwood ;)
Vista
steven said it, it was his idea...
It's good isn't it. :D
Woooooo!!
snitch!
hehe sorry it took me by surprise a bit :D
Excellent! I'm still six weeks behind so I'll get a nice surprise on one of them. I notice Dex and MrC tweet to each other now.
If there's any left by the time you get there!
;) define "lock up", and how many times it has happened, and is the power cord being pulled out by the cat, etc etc.
Ordered myself a t-shirt
Not coming till June though
hehe i'm soooo preordering stuff when mum gets home :D
Because it doesn't work like that.
HUH!
In that case you are supposed to say "Burma"
i don't follow... why?
Always check that someone hasn't swapped his kart for yours
ah what the hell, preordered a shirt and wallet :D
I'm just in the process of finding the bit and drop.io'ing it!
the wallet - unnecessary since by ordering it you won't have anything to put in it.
I want a shirt, cap and backpack :D
hehe i rang mum.... she says when she gets home she will have a look and think about it, that means 'yes' :D hehe
:D
I'll take the car - the full size one.
ding ding we have a winner! :P
awesome. Can you ask your mum if I can have some things too?
:D
i can ask... but the answer will be no :P the only reason she is letting me buy some stuff is i still have about £30 left over from easter :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k1ccguXiws
Wait... is that a 1:2 size model of jenson's helmet ?!
:o
you should have rang Brawn before you rang your mum ;)
i.e. to stick on your kid's head?
Especially the way it leads you on to other things that are similar... I've found lots of new things today (and refound all sorts of 'old' ones that I had forgotten about). Its just annoying that it likes stuffing things in in larger quantities of 'genre' than I would listen to in one chunk...
Although the worst bit was it playing something that I'm on (and no, I'm not saying which track) and that I won't ever get any PPL on cos it was a one-fee gig :-(
they aren't going to give me free merchandise no matter how nice i am to them...
To stick on my shelf, point at, and smile gleefully for 5 or 6 hours, yes :P
I'm tempted to get Rubens hat for someone as a present... It amuses me
But why does he have a hat sponsor and Jenson doesn't?
now that you come to mention it..
I do like the black cap.
So why cant they paint the car that colour?????
hahahaha :D
I'm on XP. Windows just freezes and the HDDs spin down. Seems to be random. Was doing it a hell of a lot towards the end of last night, and did it again when I switched it on after work today.
Ta-daaaa!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodcast-shoutout-mp3
I tried to lower the volume levels a bit as it's distorted. I put the full letter readout up there too because it's pretty funny what they commented about it!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/le-mans-letter-mwm-mp3
Just running a Spybot S&D scan.
You have money at easter?
It would make it look like an arrows, and therefore make it slower
because they didn't originally have any black paint? They would have used the white left over from last year i should imagine. i believe the paint has to be specially mixed so to not add any weight on the car so going to the trouble to get black is something they neither had the money or time to do.. or is that something i just made up?
They might have had some left over from the first earthdreams car
But Carbon is black?
my only cousin went on holiday at easter and my nan gave her some spending money, she thought it was unfair not to give me the same amount :) (i love my nan :D )
Yeah i know, i was just trying to encourage you again ;)
I don't care. I don't want a white car on the grid.
In RG's FIA, that means the team are disqualified if over 50% of the car is white. So goodbye BMW, Brawn, Force India, Renault (its close, but it is an awful livery) and many more.
oh, lol :) mum thinks it's a good idea so i'll write an email or something later on this evening
w00t!
how is it john manages to mispronounce sidepodcast in actually the same way as maurice hamilton?
loving that letter gavin :)
I had money, but I ated it! :)
I'd be considering a problem with your RAM or the fan coolers on the processor.
The weight of paint is important but black shouldn't weigh any more than any other colour. Honda had a black testing livery a couple of years ago and it looked great. Clive had it on his page until he replaced it with a BMW a couple of weeks ago.
well, erm....well they needed an actuall livery and not just what would look like an unfinished car, plus i can imagine white would make it easier to sell space for sponsors.... i did say it was something i could have made up.
YEAHHHHHHHH :)
Is it really that hard to say?
Cheers. Blogs coming soon ;)
I knew I had a bad memory but I didn't expect my computer to catch it.
Nice work!
:) just a thought. i'm not an it person though so don't believe me on this ;)
I refer lots of people but I always end up saying 'Sidecodcast'. The Fishing site has hits though.
compare and contrast:
- maurice in 2008
- john in 2009
we need a new name.
Sidepostcad?
:D
Sounds about right I think. How annoying.
Harumph.
That was an excellent letter.
I cant see that one catching on
:D :P
Indeed. Case in Point - Anthony Davidson!
:D
No. We just need Christine to replace all those people who can't read and speak at the same time
John recommending Gavin sticks to Amy hours - don't sleep.
The name is fine as it is. It is up to others to adapt.
Unfortunately harumph.com is taken. Something to do with sewers so probably Max or Bernie
Well thank you sir - I think it was just because they took the p*** out of it so much!
It has inspired me to start writing though - look to be pleasantly surprised soon!
The people I'm going with don't expect me to!
Is Christine working Amy hours on the wiki?
lol
I'd second the overheating thing though - this laptop (pc running vista) over heats horribly for no apparent reason, and then everything goes v e r y s l o w l y until I give up and reboot (and that has to be a altctldtl which takes forever to get there....)
Good stuff. In common with everyone else's stuff though, don't expect me to read it right away. Pencil in August or something. I have this insufferable need to read RSS and listen to podcasts in the right order and I've been delayed by things. Maybe I have OCD. Or CDO.
There is a heatsink just next to the processor one. The processor has a massive fan. This other thing has no fan and gets really hot. I think this is the culprit.
But make sure you write it because I will catch up.
Well, having killed the convo I'll go and make dinner.
;-)
what's she been up to now?
is it any wonder i can't keep up :(
I hate astronauts doing political speeches.
there is an RSS feed for the wiki you know ;)
97 updates probably before you got to bed
The wiki works awkward hours, dodgy time hours thingy.
There's also the weekly email.
righto. i'll add that to my 200 undread items today then ;)
email?
Only 200? Google Reader got to 1000 and gave up counting.
You not get it?
After I signed up to the wiki I started getting emails from it telling all the updates that have happened during the week.
email? no. isn't that like a slightly faster version of posting a letter?
Okay, really am to going to get food now. Will check up on today's tweets while I'm waiting for it and rejoin you all later.
today?
Since Wednesday or Tuesday or something. It got to 1000 on Friday and there have been loads over the weekend.
blimey. information overload?
And you can get an e-mail every time a page is updated if you forget to unclick the box
i didn't know will buxton was blogging too?
http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/
[via 5livef1]
Actually I think it is all to do with Indy because some bloggers were doing several updates during qualifying, and it may be since last weekend. Can't remember.
Fake Bernie is following me. Help
there's no escape now.
It is all part of the process. The next step, Fake Max follows you. Then Fake FIA, then you take over them. Simple
I have more followers after 24 hours on twitter than I did in however long I had an identica account
The most disappointing ones are Brooke Burke (She may be famous for getting her "twits" out but she just tweets boring mommy-stuff) and MC Hammer (no rapping, just random weird preaching) :(
Just thought you should know...
it's about 7 billion times more popular. which depending on how you look at it, can be a good or a bad thing.
I have already blocked a few wasters
has to be done.
Hey Scott, I have a tip for your power lap times.
1. Select the input range, right click and select 'Format Cells'
2. select the number tab, scroll down and select 'custom'
3. Underneath where it says 'type', enter [mm]:ss.0 and select OK. You can now enter laptimes in minutes and seconds!
Oooh nice, thanks. Will note that down :)
Make that [mm]:ss.000 for proper laptimes!
*thumbs up*
Ah, not exactly working to plan.
I hate C++. I hate C++. I hate C++. I hate C++. I hate C++.
did I mention how much I dislike this damn language.
*bangs head on laptop* :(
The final spacewalk of the mission has been successfully completed and the astronauts are back in the airlock.
been half-following your tweetage sir.
in 140 characters or more, wassup?
I think he hates C++?
Are you sure?
BTW I have sent you an e-mail
I hated programming. I really did! Spend all week making beautiful code and then the next two wondering why it doesn't - only to find a bloody bracket in the wrong place!
What isn't it doing?
never thought of testing each line as you went along?
i've done nearly most of what I have to do except now I have to do the main task which involved 'enqueuing data structures'
In the 4 months or so ive done c++ I havent done enqueuing once... so I dont understand how theyre expecting us to do it :(
I'm going through notes and idiots guides to c++ now and it's... just not sticking.
I'll get there eventually... I have a few more days...
you mean like a message queue?
Yeah I did - always seemed to work fine until it was nearly finished :(
All it says is 'data structure, enqueuing and dequeuing' and to create a menu saying
• Initialise an queue data structure.
• Enqueue an element to the end of the queue.
• Dequeue an element from the start of the queue.
• Navigate and display all data elements in the queue.
the menu i can do easy peasy :D now if only it was creating a menu i'd be flying quicker than nelson piquet on an aquaplaning straight
ah so - put structure in place
add something to the end of the queue, take something off the start of the queue and the last is selfexplanatory...
You've got a lecturer who took latin, :-p basically
ahh, ok. so it's a first-in, first-out thing?
create a queue, add some data, add some more, remove the first thing you added and then show what's left?
I assume so, it seems that way, but with whatever you choose in the menu doing whatever you want with the queue.
sure. presumably, you've done array's in c++ already?
in which case the menu is simply an interface to a managed array, no?
That could work, as long as i dont manage to lose myself in a mess of code. Will give it a go though, im so used to my lecturer one week saying arrays are best to use then the next week telling us not to use arrays that it's just been scrambled in my mind... but i'll give a shot, let you know how it goes.
you wanna tell him lpg does a better job than him and she's miles away.
Oi!!
Arrays are OK... years since I subjected myself to them though
LPG who used to get annoyed at not getting full marks for programming because her code didn't match the 'answer sheet' the tutor had, even though it a) worked and b) was 2 lines shorter and more elegant....
to be fair my lecturer couldnt turn up and you guys could do better :P plus every week she compares everything to Visual basic, when we were all doing java for a year and still are, and VB for 3 months in our first semester, which is very annoying... *breaths*....... anywaysss!
see, you guys should've done tremayning tonight :D
Voicemail is available
i meant in terms of physical distance. as the crow flies.
not in mindset, you understand.
Me and Steven are having a nice argu...I mean discussion on the WRC on twitter. ;)
Scott is wrong.
I blame Steven.
Oh... um...
I think that's OK then....
Anyway - off to waste some more time on last.fm.....
Oooh I wanna join in!
My point was that you could create rallycross style WRC cars which had the durability of the current WRC cars and you'd have a modern Group B on a smaller budget - I think. I don't know how much it costs to build a current top European Rallycross car.
It just occurred to me now that I am listening to the Debrief that Lewis saying he is like a prisoner is like the artist formerly known as Prat writing slave on his face
I'm detecting hidden meaning here...
Just can't quite put my finger on what it is...
good ones sell for about £30,000 used.
I'm talking about the current top ones. There's a guy who's running a modified sort of "hardcore WRC" version of a new Ford Fiesta.
Watch the IRC. Problem solved!
Good solution.
good point.
george michaels renamed sony to phoney roughly around that time. he happily took their money as he threw the toys from the pram one by one though.
Looking at the new brawn gear, its interesting that the Button helmet is his new design, and not the red white and blue one, which he was supposed to go back to. Maybe he's decided its lucky and is sticking with it.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75428
USF1 have not decided whether they will enter under the budget cap or not. If they opt out of the budget cap it is going to make Max look stupid
ha! fantastic.
And you would have thought it was a no brainer for them...
They have been planning this for a long time so they have probably raised plenty have money.
They also seem determined to keep everyone confused about their name!
That is Bernie rather than them. Bernie has a fixation about people not using F1 as he claims he has a trademark on it even though he keeps losing court cases on the subject. They will be called Team USF1 when they enter as in Bernieworld teams in F1 can use F1 if they have Team in their name. Insane
I'm still awaiting Team America
would be amazing to see the secret signal mid race when they have a gearbox problem or something.
Ive always found that strange, especially as they have f1 powerboats...
Do any other sports use it?
I thought it was P1?
I just used the phrase a little bit Piquet on Joe's blog.
Oh yes. There are F1 stock cars and all sorts of other things
There is F1, P1 and Class 1!
I own a pair of F1 sneakers :)
I have an F1 keyboard :P Its right there in the top right corner!
According to Joe the court case tomorrow does not start till 4pm. Hardly enough time for Tozzi to get his opening remarks in going by previous performances
Will the French court be willing to tolerate as much as the FIA?
I assume their procedures must be pretty tight if you can sue someone on a Friday and be in court by Tuesday. In most countries getting into court before 2011 would be an achievement.
I am curious about the fall out from this case. Do Ferrari really want it widely reported that they are suing the FIA for not honouring an unfair advantage they were given? Does Max on the eve of an election want such a thing reported? Does Bernie want it reported when he knows his name make come up in the Valencia court case? It seems to me that a lot of people who have made a lot of behind closed doors deals have thrown open all the doors and could suffer as a result.
For the build-up to the Monaco race on Sunday, I'm doing a full-length race weekend on F1 games from 1997 up to 2006. I'm being the same driver throughout. Didn't pick Rubens because I didn't want a Ferrari, so went for Fisichella instead. All on highest difficulty level too btw.
In qualifying in 1997 now and it's been raining heavily all session, I'm currently on pole by 11 seconds. The rest of the top 6 is Schumi, Alesi, Panis, Hill and Rubens. What the ****?! Oh yeah, monsoon tyres are on too (!).
Heh, awesome. There is something strangely brilliant about sitting in the pits watching live timing and the feed in f1 97's qualifying :D
I'm eating a kitkat with no wafer - I. am. gobsmacked.
:(
heh... Andy is being subjected to all sorts of stuff that is normally only played without him around.... and not complaining :-D
I've been thinking (dangerous concept), and have come to the conclusion that keeping the Brawn White would be preferable to it going black... possibly staying slightly (marginally lol) cooler inside, plus it stands out nicely on a grid full of darker coloured cars :-)
I'm really enjoying the Eurovision's winning song now. Listening now, downloaded it earlier. >.>
Not that song. Noooooooo
It'll get stuck :-)
Hey, it gets inside your head and burrows away until you're humming it..........right?:P
Isn't that just chocolate? I have had some Kit Kats in the past that were just chocolate
One thing does annoy me about it though, it beat Lordi as the highest scoring winner :( Lordi were the best Eurovision entrant ever.
YES MAN! YES! Well done!!!!
It is :o
No. The Iceland song does that, as does the greek. Okay, Norway's does that.
There are more countries in eurovision to vote this year though, so imo Lordi's 'record' also still stands :-)
Noone will convert me to this song! RG and Jon have been plucking it into people's minds but not me!
And yet, one day you will wake and it will be in your head all day, no matter how much Muse you send in after to wash it away......
Hahaha, RG hasnt, he's soooo very against it lol
I couldn't be more against it if I tried.
Oh yeah, hes iceland isn't he...
Apparantly she has a boyfriend. :(
First Timo, then Yohanna, why does everyone I like...
Oh yeah, San Marino weren't in the contest this year. No idea why, but they were in it for 2008. Guess they couldn't get the money to send their population of 3 people.
Timo has a boyfriend? Is it Ralf? I knew those press rumours had something in them! :P
Haha. I meant girlfriend for him.
Wow, there's already guitar chords for the song available. I want a tab though :(
rofl
"I dont think anyone buys biro's they just magically turn up, or you steal them from your office"
:D
DIY one?
Given that the chap wrote the piece etc and is a classically trained musician its probably existed in written form since the point dot though :-) so won't be long before his publishing deal gets on with it.
That was a good episode last week. Listen for the Sutil reference! :D
Ah jeez, F1 97 related. I forgot about the remaining 15 minutes of qualifying and it must have gotten dry because I'm 22nd on the grid, 12 seconds behind 1st placed Villeneueve. Damnit. Plus there's no forecasts, so I could put one type of tyre on for the race and it could be the wrong one.
The planet Bic?
I shall tomorrow, i've come over all tired all of a sudden, and it's only 10:56!!!
Goodnight!
I read that as Jerez 97. Can't think why
yay! lpg thinks the brawn car looks cool! :D
Right, see ya all later. Remember, vote/buy Iceland.
Lol
Have to declare an interest as a former boss of mine has apparently got himself onto the marketing team connected with one of the sponsors... I'm smiling very very very sweetly at his missus atm :-D
wow awesome :D
Oooh, nice :)
you want us to buy Iceland? as in the country of the chain of supermarkets? not that i think i can afford either....
night RG.
*coughs suspiciously at mention of certain supermarket*
:P
The country's finances are in a real mess. Probably cheaper to buy it than the shops now.
If we buy Iceland, can we sack all the 'celebrities' on the adverts and replace them with less annoying ones?
I think the country owns the shop, so a bit of a 2 for 1 offer at the moment
PLEASE!
hehe yes please :D why do i suddenly have a picture of Jenson and Rubens racing around a supermarket with trolleys?
Oh btw I may as well try here as well. If anyone wants to buy a little car, I have one to sell.
LOL
To keep up with F1 featuring adverts though, you'd need to find a way of working Murray into there though...
... or maybe the ITV F1 team are in need of something to do these days (b.e.g.)
Although I haven't been commenting I didn't forget to come back, have been following. :-)
he can be on the over head announcement thing doing the commentary ;)
You guys all have no idea how much more enjoyable you're making work sounds for myself ;)
You could have Jenson in a trolley which Rubens is pushing, and Lewis in a trolley which Heikki is pushing..
Piquet crashing into a stack of tins of beans
But they don't have stacks of cans of beans in Iceland....
But he could end up with his head in the freezers, would that do?
They don't have one near me.
They have stacked up them in packs of 6 *ahem*
That would work.
You could have Kimi pushing a trolley normally, looking thoughtfully at the back of a box of Magnums
ROFL
It does occur to me though, that the iceland main 'food' wouldn't do much for the fit of the cars though.....
And all this talk of food shops is making me hungary.... but I've just broken a bit of the power lead of this laptop, and if I move it may cut off the power with no guarantee that it will come back.....
I went for a job interview in the dingy Southampton one up in Shirley (horrible area). First thing they did was put on a tape about how happy and upbeat everyone is, something about the company culture. Walking through the place... they weren't. I was too cynical for my own good (as ever), saw straight through it. They weren't impressed, I didn't get the job and was glad of it.
And spelling food-related things like countries.
My computer could lock up at any minute. If it does I will get annoyed and may not bother to turn it on again.
Heh.. no comment :)
Well it did mean instead of being a drone in Iceland I because a till assistant in Victoria Wine. The staff discount was not enough to overcome the sheer arrogance of the manageress.
you have a shop called iceland? You crazy brits
Apparently Sarah Fisher, the IRL driver, will be on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight. Do we get that?
hehehe :D
and I work in it :(
Its on more 4 (usualy the next night) the dailyshow website also shows about 90% of the show
It sells frozen food.
You think that was bad?
I had an interview with (name and shame) Marketing Enterprises in Norwich last year. Got past the first stage, and went there for a second interview the next morning. What they didn't tell me until I was halfway up the motorway in the car to Bury St. Edmunds was that I'd be following someone around doing door to door sales of Sky TV. It got to the point where I had to be frank and say I didn't want the job because it wasn't what I wanted to do at all and wanted to go home. So what did they do instead? The guy I was with told me to wait outside a pub while he finished his rounds and then him and the other guys we were with would pick me up in the car. Kept me waiting there for like 90 minutes in the freezing cold with only a thin coat so I had to call Mum, explain what had happened, where I was and ended up with her calling a taxi firm in Bury St. Edmunds just to get me all the way home back to Norwich, which cost £60 and all. Not impressed, and every time I see a job advertised by them on the job sites, I look at it with disgust and discontent.
http://www.iceland.co.uk/
Ive not shopped there for a few years but the website scares me
Excellent, so it'll hopefully be on 4OD then. I won't get More4 until Wednesday.
i love the "from other news sites" headlines on bbc f1. In japan today, jessica michibata confirms relationship with f1 driver jenson button. Wow i never would have guessed they were together.
awwwww.
sidepodhugs.
Wait, Jessica's Jenson's girlfriend?! No way!
;)
And indeed it is on 4OD! Thanks. Have tweeted for anyone interested there.
FakeEJ wants shiny trousers for Monaco
apparently she already did that months ago on her own blog! :s
Nooooooooo!
!!!!!
My laptop battery is running low, so I shall bid thee farewell. Night all :)
well thank god only the fake EJ wants them
Night scott
BBC just asked me to do a survey on the site in a mini banner at the top, anyone else done that?
Hahaha :D
There are some brilliant comments tonight.
night Scott
EJ probably is FakeEJ
night
AS long has he doesn't get on the pink shirt bandwagon
EJ wouldn't do such a... oh yeah you're probably right :P
And if he does, as long as its buttoned up!!
Oh yes please. What is it with Jenson's dad?
lol
I think its possibly forgiveable in his case... but *not* in anyone elses...
As wrong as this is going to sound, i'd happily take John's tops over Anthony Hamilton's stares
You really do have that the round way around.
wrong way.. gah
Are F1 dads worse than tennis dads?
teehee
Having seen pictures and heard stories, it seems that John Button has always dressed exactly this way, and lived the life to excuse it... (there are pictures floating around the 'net that show that Jenson is not as pretty as his dad was at the same age.
But AH's stares (and sideways catty remarks) ?
you're right JB senior has always dressed like that, and he wears the pink shirt as luck for Jenson.
Don't the teams have to state whether they'll abide by the budget cap or not within a few days?
They have to put on their entry whether they will enter as a budget cap team. Entries should be in by May 29th
They are meant to. Reading Autosport, Max says he expects only 3 to 6 entries before the deadline.
I think this budget cap thing is still up in the air and teams are wondering which way to go. I hope this works out soon. I'm dying for my USGPE t-shirt, they need to get the ball rolling
USF1 have not decided whether they will enter under the budget cap or not. If they opt out of the budget cap it is going to make Max look stupid {Comment #472}
It will! USGPE is the only new team that's definitely entering (Lola is, I think, a probable, Prodrive's a vague possibility while the rest look like triumphs of hope over sense). If USGPE doesn't take the cap, it also proves that new teams don't need capping - just some solid preparation work and to not be put off by too much poor governance.
According to Joe the court case tomorrow does not start till 4pm. Hardly enough time for Tozzi to get his opening remarks in going by previous performances {Comment #486}
:D Mr Tozzi sometimes gives me the impression that he's swallowed a thesaurus of professional down-talking...
Will the French court be willing to tolerate as much as the FIA? {Comment #497}
The sort of court that can do a preliminary case in four days flat will not tolerate a lawyer spending 90 minutes on opening remarks that could quite adequetely (and more politely) have been done in 10...
