As it's the weekend, it's time to share the love and see what people have been blogging about. In fact, there are a lot of good posts doing the rounds at the moment, so here's just a few of them:

  • I particularly enjoyed reading F1 Wolf's post about how the records have changed now that Webber is a race winner. Heidfeld is really starting to stack up those finishes without a win, isn't he? Will he ever manage to score that elusive victory?
  • Two drivers have captured the imaginations of Scott and RG respectively. Scott's written about Le Seb - a popular subject at the moment - particularly focusing in on the aspect of drivers moving from America. Meanwhile, RG has made the case (and an excellent one) for Liuzzi getting a seat in F1.
  • Some photographs have surfaced of Heikki and Lewis taking part in a Marks & Spencer's photoshoot for a new kidswear range called "Living the Dream." This is beyond the most peculiar F1 story of the year, and I can't quite form words to describe this picture of Heikki on a very small bike.

That's it for now. I hope you're enjoying the start to the weekend, and have good plans for the weekend. Let us know what you're up to if you haven't already. I'll see you in the comments.

    Adapted from the west wing:

The FIA is being looked at by an optimist annd a pesimist.

The Pessimist says "This organisation is being run so badly, doing all the wrong things for the sport, it cant get any worse..."

The Optimist says "Oh yes it can!"

I listened to the podcast Pat was on http://www.planet-irl.com/podcasts/episode1.mp3 and he said he got some criticism in the forums for it. The problem is the host. He sounds like he has a list infront of him and he is killing any flow. He has to let people speak and go with the flow but he keeps changing subject as soon as anyone gets a sentence out.

It also sounds like he needs an editing lesson from Christine.

I know it was the first podcast on that site and if it was his first podcast then the mistakes are perfectly understandable but no guest is going to sound good on the show as it is.

Having a pro on makes things more difficult than necessary. I noticed the host let him flow a bit but at one point Pat asked for a second to clear his thoughts and then started talking sensibly and barely got his first sentence finished before th host butted in and changed the subject.

Cool. I thought the same but I didn't want to discourage the guy with too much negative comment off the bat. I do think he's biting off more than he can chew but he's only 16 (sorry RG) and eager.

It wasn't that I had too much criticism in the comments there, I think it was more me being self-critical although the host did say on Twitter that I was too quiet and he had to edit a lot of gaps. That's just par for the course though.

He had 5 pages of notes so that may be why he sounded the way he did. I had no notes and felt lost.

  • Steven Roy17/07/2009 at 23:36

I just watched ep 1 of 5 of last week's Torchwood - very good :-)

I didn't like the idea of 5 consecutive nights up front but it worked and worked really well.

To be fair to him, his booked co-host failed to show. Kohl (host) put a desparate call out on Twitter and Dex responded to step in at the last minute and made it very clear he could only stay 10 mins tops. I think we did okay under the circumstances.

  • me17/07/2009 at 23:37

I've done the Panel in the Park and one normal Panel. I did make the point somewhere, can't remember where - it may have been my blog post and it may have been the para I deleted - that a panel show is very different to a conversation show.

  • Pat W17/07/2009 at 23:39

Cor I go away for an hour and get lots of Sidepodlove, I like this. :-)

  • Steven Roy17/07/2009 at 23:39

He sounds older. I don't think there is anything wrong with you offering him some constructive criticism. To me he needs to cover fewer points and go with the flow on them.

He had 5 pages of notes so that may be why he sounded the way he did. I had no notes and felt lost.

I think that is the problem. He was trying to get through all his points in a fixed time.

  • me17/07/2009 at 23:39

Some folk do it natuarally and others don't. I can talk all day on F1 whether it is comments here and elsewhere or on one of the shows but putting together a blog post or guest article is hard work. Other people like Christine just seem to be able to produce blog posts on any subject with ease.

  • Steven Roy17/07/2009 at 23:47

It isn't difficult when you get started, the hard part is getting started.

I have some stuff that I start then if I don't finish it quickly I can't find a way to make myself do it. The best stuff I have ever written has been the stuff that flowed from start to finish. I could probably write a lot if I could type as fast as my brain goes but when I slow my brain down to my typing speed I lose the flow.

  • Jackie / saltire17/07/2009 at 23:47

    is it tricky then?

It's not tricky, it's more down to lack of confidence on my part. When I started that blog in my own name about 2 months ago that was easier as it was all mine, if that makes sense.

I'm not so keen on writing something when it's not such a high standard as his posts. I should say that Mav tries to encourage me but I have kinda got myself stuck into a negative spiral with blog posts.

  • Scott Woodwiss17/07/2009 at 23:48

I could probably write a lot if I could type as fast as my brain goes but when I slow my brain down to my typing speed I lose the flow.

I find the same. Up until the early part of this year I wrote some fairly good pieces in one hit. I lost the flow due to studies and never got back into it.

An example: The first Goodwood report was done this way, straight out, no worries. The second one was a bit of effort which is why it is peppered with photos and not much text. The third one hasn't been written because I can't get myself to sit and write it.

The thing is, the more you write the better you'll get. Presumably you've been writing long-ish posts on the forums for a while now. Posts like that are ideal for a blog. I've got a decade of newsgroup experience so I slotted straight in, a web forum is no different, a blog is no different.

  • Pat W17/07/2009 at 23:54

He's started already. Can we get some straps for Mr. Roy so was can restrain him?

I wrote a pice on Gilles Villeneuve that appeared as a guest post here and it is by far the longest thing I ever wrote and could have been 5 or 10 times longer and it just came so easily. I did it all in one siittng.

Not at all. Everyone finds some stuff easier than other. Mr C has discussed the problems he has writing stuff an only last week he was telling us how he spent all day trying to record an F1 minute when Christine was ill. Now he can talk. I know that because I have heard him do it but putting together one minute of scripted speech just isn't his thing.

  • Pat W17/07/2009 at 23:59

I'm not being roped into two things in as many minutes :-)

I take that as confirmation that you will host a panel. Congratualtions. You won't regret it.

What I'm saying is I was willing to come on maybe one panel next series. If that's as host and I can set people up and then shut up and not say anything controversial or do silly voices, that suits me fine :-)

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 00:03

Not sure but the loud rock is working at the moment. I thought I was in a sort of obscure club/dance/mindless beats mood but I'm not sure now. Don't have much of that.

Space shuttle docked today. I think the first spacewalk is on Sunday. Let me check the thing I wrote last night if I can find it.

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 00:30

Space shuttle docked today. I think the first spacewalk is on Sunday. Let me check the thing I wrote last night if I can find it.

Just found my original comment and it all looks wrong to me. Think I got a few days screwed up. Need to dig out the press kit

  • Jackie / saltire18/07/2009 at 00:38

I love Pat's reply to RG on twitter about "the wind" haha

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 00:41

NASA just confuse me. I am sure they changed the schedule on me.

Saturday is now spacewalk 1 day. Not sure when it starts but should last 6.5 hours. The crew are due to wake at noon UK so the spacewalk will start a couple of hours after that I guess.

The next three spacewalks are Monday, Wednesday and Friday and th final one for this mission is on the following Monday.

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 00:41

I love Pat's reply to RG on twitter about "the wind" haha

    :-)

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 00:42

So on my original comment on the 16th that detailed everything that was going to happen on this mission pretty much everything is now a day out.

  • Jackie / saltire18/07/2009 at 00:43

So on my original comment on the 16th that detailed everything that was going to happen on this mission pretty much everything is now a day out.

    NASA also do sidepodtime?

  • me18/07/2009 at 00:45

Who starts a sale at 4:30am anyway?

    golf sale?

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 00:46

    NASA also do sidepodtime?

I think they invented it although to be fair they do it with times ending in odd minutes. So the crew wake up tomorrow is not scheduled for 7am eastern but 7:03am.

The two spacewalkers begin their camp out at 9:28pm eastern tonight.

I think the times create the impression of precision whereas we all know it is in chaos most of the time.

Christine did threaten to copy this and start scheduling shows for 7:01pm

  • Jackie / saltire18/07/2009 at 00:46

Oh god, I've lost the plot, I'm still laughing at RG's wind comment .. haha I can't stop laughing, it's so childish

  • me18/07/2009 at 00:46

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 00:49

I am not sure if I got it wrong or they shuffled the schedule again. I know they are undocking a day earlier than planned to make room for a Russian Progress module which has been planned for a while.

I look forward to seeing them. Posada came so close to a home run. Ended up with a ground rule double and hit a fan in the gut with the ball. I guess the fan never caught a ball in his lfe judging by his technique.

I blame Microsoft. Stopped using Doohickey on Chrome since the new comments tab was always wrong. Stopped using Firefox because after opening it I could make a cup of tea in the time it takes to load. So I am using IE for it. I'm currently updating to FF 3.5 in the hope of an improvement though, I'm not enjoying my IE time.

FF is now at 3.5.1 - they said they fixed an issue where it opened slowly for certain users. Might've fixed it for you?

Hopefully. I gave up on it completely because when I used to close it, the program firefox.exe would keep running so if I tried to open a new window I would get "Firefox is already running" so I would have to ctrl alt delete and close it from Task Manager. Drove me nuts.

It tends to do that with me when I've opened too many tabs or kept it open for too long. I think they had a memory issue. Hopefully, they've dealt with it.

Very interesting thoughts there. There have been spurts of innovation in small corners of the firm, but they die out pretty quickly. I have to figure out some way to spark that again, and then sustain it. Had a very interesting discussion with Steven about it a few nights ago - he's familiar with all the improvement/innovation initiatives out there.

Quote of the day goes to Torro Rosso's Giorgio Ascanelli,

    "

Ascanelli says Toro Rosso missing Vettel

By Pablo Elizalde Friday, July 17th 2009, 09:16 GMT

Sebastian VettelScuderia Toro Rosso's technical director Giorgio Ascanelli says Sebastian Vettel's absence this year has been felt at the Italian squad.

Vettel gave Toro Ross its maiden victory last season at the Italian Grand Prix, as he helped the Faenza-based squad beat sister team Red Bull Racing in the championship.

This season, however, Toro Rosso has managed just five points while Red Bull is fighting for both championships.

Toro Rosso will introduce a major upgrade at next week's Hungarian Grand Prix, hoping that it will lift its performance significantly.

But Ascanelli concedes the team has been missing Vettel, who he reckons was making a big difference last year.

"That depends how far forward the other teams have gone, because nothing stays still in this sport," said Ascanelli when asked if the upgrade will put the team in a point-scoring position.

"It's not as simple as saying 'last year we made a technical step forward for the second half of the year and performed well so the same thing will happen again.'

"Last year, the Italian media was keen for me to puff out my chest and say ‘oh yes, I am very clever and I have managed to outperform our Red Bull cousins,' but the simple answer about the end of last year is that Vettel is a great driver."

    The silly thing is that writing forum articles isn’t a problem .. I must be weird {Comment #78}

I don't think you are weird. I came into blogging from a similar background and it was tricky for me at first too.

I think it helped that I had no real pressure in the beginning because for the first eight months there were only about four people who knew I had a blog. Three of the four were attempting to start blogs at the same time (having only had forum experience themselves), so we kind of learned together. (In the beginning, for example, it didn't occur to any of us that three weeks might be a bit too long a gap between entries!).

Eventually, when I was happy with the content I was producing, I started getting curious about what else was out there, which led me to the rest of the F1 blogosphere and to getting a lot of new readers. I think I might have inadvertently killed off the other people's blogs at that point because despite my advice, none of the others could match me for views and therefore gave up.

Perhaps it would help if you did some guest entries in my blog. Since there are people reading it who still don't do anything else in the blogosphere, you will discover that your blogging style suits them as much as your forum posts suit your fellow forumites - or your Sidepodcast comments suit us :) And, of course, any guest entry you did would feature a link to your blog so that people who like your writing can read your other work.

    I think the times create the impression of precision whereas we all know it is in chaos most of the time. {Comment #150}

I think it's a tradition inherited from the military. Orders are never set to the hour or half-hour because people are so used to them in everyday life that they tend to be a bit lax about being on time (try setting up a meeting for 11am sharp and notice the same effect!)

People tend to remember odd times better and are more likely to stick to them. NASA's schedule is an attempt to reduce chaos, and let's face it, they get enough chaos without adding more with something so trivial as schedule times.

  • Alianora La Canta18/07/2009 at 11:20

    Doesn’t everyone do that? {Comment #185}

Force India + MTV India = reality show!

    The Fast & The Gorgeous {Comment #221}

It's been going on since May. As methods of finding paddock girls go, it seems a bit over-the-top...

It gets funnier, though. The team sent me an e-mail this morning offering me the show's soundtrack as a competition prize. This would be somewhat more attractive if I received MTV at home. As it stands, I had the foggiest idea what music was on the show and thus don't know if I'd like it...

  • Alianora La Canta18/07/2009 at 11:36

    i was wondering the same thing! i do hope they asked for permission. {Comment #226}

Considering how much crossover content Force India and the BBC seem to have, I suspect the team probably asked on MTV's behalf...

Hi. Strangest dream in a while... I got up earlier to check the weather for golf reasons, tomorrow looks better so went back to bed - where I dreamed of IRL on an oval which had a very steep downhill backstraight with a footbridge over it, they stopped the race for a formal dinner (I wasn't invited) which everyone thought was normal, and where I was chased for money.

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 11:45

We are off to the Country Show today :)

It's my hip hop song so it's required to gloat,

I'm da fastest guy at milking a goat!

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 12:20

We're from the country, we got nothin' to lose,

we spend our days milkin' the coos

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:22

I'm eatin' hot dogs and wearin' my shorts,

and comparison shopping some new pitch forks

  • Christine18/07/2009 at 12:22

    Hehehe, these are great :)

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:26

Don't hate on us 'cos we like chewin' straw,

when you work on a farm it's kinda the law.

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 12:27

There's a hiphop group from my town :-)

I'm just checking for swears before I post a link to their MySpace

I'm just checking for swears before I post a link to their MySpace

    Hmm.. anyway the chorus goes..

Dorset born and bred, strong in the arm thick in the head,

Drink cider on the farm keep our wellies in the shed

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:29

So walk in our field, drink some beer and have some fun,

'cos the rest of the year you'd be facing our shotgun.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:32

Just 'cos we have country accents don't think we're all whack,

Just drink ten pints of cider and you'll soon get the knack.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:33

Anyway, enough of all of this hippity hoppity music. I better actually go. I'll attempt to live comment if possible.

Keep an eye on the drop :)

Go to the track called 'Jurassic Coast', there are some minor instances of getting drunk with a p-word. I haven't vetted the other tracks.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 12:36

    Okay one last one....

That's the end of this song, who knew there much mileage,

in a hip hop song, on the subject of silage.

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 12:36

Back to watching Le Tour highlights from the week. Bit more Saturday afternoon-like than rap music, IMO. It has started to spit with rain here so the golf deferral tactic appears to be working, fingers crossed tomorrow

  • lou18/07/2009 at 12:37

    Okay one last one....

this would be awesome as another giggle's song/ rap ;)

ahhh. i don't know much about the tour de france, except the leader wears a jumper of some colour, and last year it went right past my house.

Just having a quick check of the Open now. I suppose I should do some ironing.

JA has a new article on Toro Rosso's raison d'etre.

I think that article does more than most to explain Toro Rosso's reasons for booting LeSeb and get the Spanish teanager- which of course are mostly financial.

drop.io pics are now scrollable (as requested by steven), so if they don't fit on screen at first, move the page down a bit.

also, if you click the drop.io image it will now take you to the page on dropio so you can read comments etc.

  • me18/07/2009 at 13:51

i think i've decided one of the most dangerous things you can do while outside is go to london and shop! the crowds yesterday were horrible :( i prefer inside to big busy crowds of london shoppers. Specially when those shoppers are pushing you out of the way to see john barrowman.

  • me18/07/2009 at 14:09

Haha no. I have spent most of my time in the jobcentre though. That's not so fun.

he was at the other end of the store (HMV) with a load of torchwood people apparently. He was signing books and stuff. i kinda walked in the opposite direction to the crowds... i don't like shopping at the best of times, but in london it's manic!

I love Christine's modification of the doohickey. Great idea.

heikki's getting around a bit today. now in moscow:

speaking of heikki, hi! here i am!

you may recall earlier today I was complaining about the fact my friends birthday party was not in my living room and thus I would have to go outside. Turns out my flatmate was hosting a dinner party tonight. So I got invited to that, and plan was to have dinner, then go to birthday. But dinner has only just finished and its 2am and birthday party is over. I had a great great night and I didn't even have to leave my house. Inside wins!

On the downside, your friendship is over.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 16:06

    Hehehe... scary?

it was good fun. Not too scary at all but when it went really fast about half way through there was a big crack noise that did make me a bit nervy!

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 16:06

    You are Hekki :P

ah, its just someone I work with. She was expecting over 250 people and I would've only known 4 of them, and she probably was too drunk to notice I wasn't there. I will apologise on Monday though, I'm sure she'll be fine :D

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 16:08

But malfunctioning fairground equipment is defiantly scary!

It was her 21st, from previous 21sts I have been to, it appears you are supposed to invite everyone you have ever met. I didn't have one, because I couldn't even fill an elevator with people I know.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 16:11

Hey man, I've seen Final Destination 3. I know how that stuff goes down.

i havent seen any of them...

If you have seen it does that mean its another bad film ;)

  • RG18/07/2009 at 16:12

Started the transcript, realised Mrs C says quite quite a lot.

I have seen the first two. They are awesome but I can't drive near lorries with logs on them.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 16:13

Hahaha, i was questioning your description of that ride as scary!

Well the parade lap isn't really scary. But you try ad-libbing on a rollercoaster ;)

    I couldn't read my shownotes ;)

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 16:13

The fourth one is coming out soon and it's in 3D. Awesome. And someone drowns in a carwash!

Me too, I ended up having dinner with my parents and one random flatmate who was supposed to be out of town but turned up as the meal was being cooked. I did have an amazing white chocolate and raspberry gateau too. I still dream about that cake.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 16:16

that and the fact I bought all three on DVD for $10. So cheap. So bad. So good.

Here is a trailer for the next one that pretty much gives away all the death scenes.

I had dinner with my family on the night and got this massive crystal encrusted champagne bottle which i still have on my shelf.

I then had a big party once everyone got back to uni... which i cant really remember too much...

  • me18/07/2009 at 16:19

less so for me though, eh?

    twas just an observation....;)

  • Christine18/07/2009 at 16:22

I was excited by the race cars bit... but by the end, I think I might not watch it. I'd never walk on an escalator again!

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 16:23

I was excited by the race cars bit... but by the end, I think I might not watch it. I'd never walk on an escalator again!

I get the feeling they're really going to milk the 3D thing and 90% of the film will be objects flying towards the screen so they appear to be coming out at you.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 16:23

I like it because I was watching an interview with Ralf (ugh) where he was all 'DTM is great because the drivers are friendly, in F1 the drivers never communicate with each other' I like that twitter makes me think they are actually all friends, even though they probably aren't :D

  • Christine18/07/2009 at 16:39

I thought the first half was really really good. I thought the second half was a big let down, and they left some really big bits out, whilst leaving some things in (and adding things) that didn't really have to be there.

  • lou18/07/2009 at 16:49

    Excellent, thank you :)

    Thanks Lou,

Other drivers have twitter account, but actually use them to say what they are doing (rather than just links to media and websites). I know the F2 Driver Karun Chandhok really used it with photos - it really makes the accessible to the fans!

  • me18/07/2009 at 16:57

To be fair, I wasn't on sidepodcast then.

give it a read. comments are great too.

  • Rachel18/07/2009 at 16:57

hey rachel. unless you're the one being transcribed ;)

hehe, you must be used to that by now.

  • lou18/07/2009 at 16:58

    Do we sound drunk again?

kinda... it's really kinda funny :) in a good way.

    ...

should i buy some milky bars?...

  • Chris18/07/2009 at 17:10

Evening all. Been away for a week due to moving into a flat with no internet or mobile phone signal (it's been hell!). I'm getting my internet on Tuesday, but have gone to my parents house for the weekend.

Been keeping an eye of F1 news at work, but what have I missed this week on SPC?

  • guille230618/07/2009 at 17:11

    hi chris

  • RG18/07/2009 at 17:12

    Hey mate, everyone is transcribing.

Just looked at the weather for the speedway, looks like Poland has done a Malaysia.

  • Chris18/07/2009 at 17:13

    Hey mate, everyone is transcribing.

Cool. Might see if I can do one once I have the internet back properly.

  • Rachel18/07/2009 at 17:14

    i added them here - http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Driver+Links

Randomly flicking through these since I haven't for a while, and noticed Webber has uploaded his celebration as an .mp3 on his website :) http://www.markwebber.com/audio/webber.mp3

the only time someone has rung me since I put mine as HEY DUDE PICK UP YOUR PHONE my phone was on silent.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:22

Just thinking, Since Mclarens twitter is called 'the fifth driver'

Would lewis go on as 'The first driver'?

Would that then mean Heikki would have to be 'the second driver'? (sorry Amy)

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:22

the only time someone has rung me since I put mine as HEY DUDE PICK UP YOUR PHONE my phone was on silent.

next time you're on a panel, we'll call it :)

Hahaha. I am really enjoying that we have found something he doesn't like. This is akin to my dislike of the archives :)

He was asking for you to do an advert for the archives the other week that you could drop into debriefs. How about an advert for transcripts? ;)

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:26

ooh er the 2010 Australian GP page has changed. Question is do I book yet or not? I want my 4-corners package again that I stupidly didn't get this year.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:28

    shooosh you!

btw. google chrome is the most annoying browser in the world. it may be wrose than ie8. maybe.

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:29

That sounds like you get a pizza...

:D Pizza at the Grand Prix would be fantastic. I do like that the packages include the very-good Jones stand next year, I don't like that the Fangio package I'd get (I like to be opposite the pits on race day) includes Jones on Thursday. ie, the day you spend no time in your seat.

  • lou18/07/2009 at 17:30

btw. google chrome is the most annoying browser in the world. it may be wrose than ie8. maybe.

I heard about you and that... The other problem with it is knowing which version people are on things are changing all the time and people say, "I didn't change anything", it doesn't ask you if you want to upgrade it just happens.

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:31

oh noes! :( are you having problems with it cause of doohickey stuff?

mm. without getting geeky. it runs commands in exactly the opposite order to every other browser.

  • lou18/07/2009 at 17:31

mm. without getting geeky. it runs commands in exactly the opposite order to every other browser.

    oh. that's... rubbish. :(

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:31

btw. google chrome is the most annoying browser in the world. it may be wrose than ie8. maybe.

i gave up on ff 3.5.1 and ie8 and have gone back to chrome for my doohickeying. All 3 of them gave me problems but the Chrome ones are the least annoying.

  • Rachel18/07/2009 at 17:31

I heard about you and that... The other problem with it is knowing which version people are on things are changing all the time and people say, "I didn't change anything", it doesn't ask you if you want to upgrade it just happens.

FF does that too. Or at least mine did, this morning it suddenly it told me had to restart it because it had just installed an update.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:32

mm. without getting geeky. it runs commands in exactly the opposite order to every other browser.

    Was it made by Australians?

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:32

Can you reverse the polarity or does that only work on Voyager?

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:32

i gave up on ff 3.5.1 and ie8 and have gone back to chrome for my doohickeying. All 3 of them gave me problems but the Chrome ones are the least annoying.

doohickey can't be working for you on chrome now, can it?

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:32

    Was it made by Australians?

Australians made google maps and google wave but I don't know about Chrome.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:32

    3.5.1 works fine here

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:33

Can you reverse the polarity or does that only work on Voyager?

i did exactly that. and then doohickey stopped working in ff, ie, safari and opera.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:33

FF does that too. Or at least mine did, this morning it suddenly it told me had to restart it because it had just installed an update.

Chrome doens't need a restart or at least it doesn't tell you that it does so you don't know.

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:33

oooh wow we just got in and it started raining!

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:34

    You can turn that off

Chrome doens't need a restart or at least it doesn't tell you that it does so you don't know.

thing is. did they do an update recently, or has i broken something? i just can't tell.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:34

Australians made google maps and google wave but I don't know about Chrome.

I seem to remember an article about it, i think it was a weird guy that lives in the middle of nowhere in Scandinavia.

Maybe if Gavin shouts he can get his attention and help us...

  • RG18/07/2009 at 17:34

oooh wow we just got in and it started raining!

    We had torrential shower earlier.

Day has been better than yesterday, never stopped raining all day.

  • Rachel18/07/2009 at 17:35

    You can turn that off

I can? I should really read instructions for things.

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:35

    3.5.1 works fine here

mine constantly stopped responding and was using 90% of my system resources

  • guille230618/07/2009 at 17:36

I need to make my lunch. See you later

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:36

    We had torrential shower earlier.

It rained here earlier, now it has got colder... the shorts enable me to know this. I should shut the window...

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:36

thing is. did they do an update recently, or has i broken something? i just can't tell.

I used Chrome during the testing yesterday - it worked except the reversed polarity after you had pressed more didn't it?

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:36

nope, its giving me the 'pending' thing but thats OK. It's better than freezing and non quotable smileys :D

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:36

I can? I should really read instructions for things.

    Tools > Options > Advanced > Update

it's always reversed. more, or no more.

    Oh, not good then

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:37

Right but it can't have been Chrome updating because the oldhicky worked.

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:38

I wasn't expecting that to be possible :-)

I have also just noticed 2010 Australian prices are actually cheaper than 2009. Bernie must be rolling in his grave.

  • Rachel18/07/2009 at 17:41

    wishful thinking.

Tickets I paid $430 for this year are $399 next year. That's about 196 pounds.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:46

Tickets I paid $430 for this year are $399 next year. That's about 196 pounds.

I think monza is cheaper.. Anyone up for a sidepodadventure?

  • me18/07/2009 at 17:47

I think monza is cheaper.. Anyone up for a sidepodadventure?

    am guessing bassano.

    just a hunch.

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:47

But i thought you said they were cheap! :(

thats for 4 days in a grandstand though, you can get general admission for 4 days for about 60 pounds. It's not cheeeeap but its a lot cheaper than Singapore :D

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:48

    am guessing bassano.

hehe, is he still in canadaland?

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:48

Ah that sounds better, i take it the extra day is V8's?

One thing about Australian Grand Prix tv coverage is that channel ten showed everything on race day.. even the celebrity fiat 500 race!

Sounds cheaper than Silverstone too. I wonder what prices Donington will charge.

  • RG18/07/2009 at 17:50

I'm thinking Turkey 2010, but I think a lot of things.

I wanna go to Nurburgring at some point. First corner looks like a good place to be.

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:50

What do you get for that, the stand on the main straight?

yep. for that price you can also get the grandstand on turn 16.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 17:51

Sounds cheaper than Silverstone too. I wonder what prices Donington will charge.

More. and you will have to pay extra if you want to breathe their oxygen

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:52

Well, I would like to go to one big race next year, probably F1, so just a question of affordability.

  • Pat W18/07/2009 at 17:52

    Freshly polluted with aviation fumes!

  • Amy18/07/2009 at 17:53

Ah that sounds better, i take it the extra day is V8's?

Thursday this year had a historic demonstration, practice and qualifying for mini challenge, formula ford, formula 5000 revival, aussie racing cars, aussie gt, v8s and practice and the first demonstration for the speed comparison between road car/v8/f1. In 2008 I didn't watch anything on Thursday, I hung around the autograph stage all day. This year I watched quite a bit. Formula 5000 was great, they had a retro McLaren.

  • Jon Waldock18/07/2009 at 17:53

Well, I would like to go to one big race next year, probably F1, so just a question of affordability.

What other series would class as "a big race" ??

    Lemans.

I think sidepodradio is covering it?

I think sidepodradio is covering it?

    where? when?

  • Alex Andronov18/07/2009 at 17:56

I started transcribing just to wind up Mr C ;) (not really I felt I should do my bit).

    Observations:

I need a quarter speed option on the iPhone - half isn't slow enough

I know why stenographers use a foot pedal to pause moving your hand away from the keyboards slows you down

When Christine goes into a prepared bit of speech she goes much faster!

  • RG18/07/2009 at 17:58

Damn, speedway has been called off for tonight.

    Till tomorrow morning?

  • Jackie/saltire18/07/2009 at 17:58

Le Mans or the Indy 500

Why, what if some people forgot the link to your blog. You may need to plug it (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

    :P :P :P

    ah. ok. http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/blog/index.php/227/an-alternative-take-on-engine-performance/

Interesting reading. The only thing is that in some of those cases (probably Trulli and Alonso) we don't know the state of the engines they have already used, and they could re-use them - in line with the new rules - to avoid grid place penalties. But which would be better, an older, less efficient, less powerful, possibly more likely to fail engine, or a ten place grid penalty, but a shiny new engine?

A shiny new one unless you are a BMW? .. in which case it's likely to make little difference to the final result.

A very interesting analysis. I find it difficult to explain that last year BMW engines seemed more reliable than this year in case of Kubica. Being so slow it won't make much difference to BMW. On several occassions BMW have said they would make their engines available to other clients- have not seen any takers yet.

hehe. google have promised to support it very shortly, so no worries there.

firefox is the problem child on this one, as its audio file is about 6 times bigger than the one that safari can play. chrome will likely do the sensible thing and support .mp3 playback too. firefox not so much.

I'm not a gamer either, I was quite happy with my ancient (early 90s yellow brick of a) gameboy, but that gave up the ghost, so I asked for (and got) a new one (for turning older on thursday)

I used to go there a lot, they were a very friendly bunch but recently it's got quite snarky and they fight a lot so I stay out of it.

No, its a thread about development in + pictures of my hometown. I am kind of ridiculously excited about going home in 87 days and plan on being all touristy and taking photos of my pretty city. I never appreciated it until I left :D

This is the view from my parents old crib (linked for definitions sake ;) ). They have since sold that one and their actual house in town and built a new house on the water about 2km closer to town, but I liked this view better. The tide goes out too far in front of their new house so you spend most of the day looking at mud.

another minor change to note about doohickey. christine objected to it going to sleep in the middle of typing a new comment. it shouldn't do that any more.

in the past the timer was reset by posting a comment. now typing, changing threads, filtering comments or requesting more will reset it instead.

have lowered the timeout for the rest of the day to five minutes, yell if you spot anything wrong.

    yep. what next?..

because the iphone/tounch doesn't support flash, you usually get big question marks appearing when we embed audio/video. in theory, you should now be able to listen to lukeh's voicemail by clicking on the grey square in the first post.

    in theory...

  • me18/07/2009 at 20:52

if you can hear lukeh, could you also try browsing to:

    http://www.sidepodcast.com/video/

and seeing if the videos also work pls?

    You survived 'outside'?

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 21:45

Just catching up with the spacewalk and Christine will be pleased to know they are an hour behind schedule already.

They are trying to install the porch now.

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 21:45

    You survived 'outside'?

I ran from house to car and the same at the other end to minimise exposure to outside and didn't breathe any of that fresh air stuff.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 21:47

They are trying to install the porch now.

    wow, im watching now, hypnotising...

    ..better safe than sorry!

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 21:51

Now I am really confused. They were an hour behind schedule on the spacewalk so they have finished an hour early and left the porch dangling on the end of the shuttle robotic arm. THe next spacewalk is not till Monday.

  • Nick18/07/2009 at 21:52

Is 'the gaurdian' a good film?

It has the Kasabian song! :D

Its about rescue swimmers in the US coastgaurd.

    So far so good.

Just been looking at the updates over the last few days. Looks like a lot of work has been done.

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 22:02

Presents for Steven when he wakes up :)

    Thanks Alex.

I haven't just woken up btw.

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 22:10

Looks like they are not going to leave the porch dangling off the shuttle arm till Monday. The arm is moving it in and it looks like it connects by a gigantic 20 pin DIN plug

  • me18/07/2009 at 22:12

ooh. can we get a drop of that?

  • Steven Roy18/07/2009 at 22:14

ooh. can we get a drop of that?

I wish you had said that a couple of minutes ago. The tow sides are just about connected now so there is not much to see and NASA TV has switched to a view of a map. I think their director used to do F1.

  • me18/07/2009 at 22:16

This film makes me think epic swim training is fun again for some reason. I know it isnt.

  • Lukeh18/07/2009 at 22:26

OK in work today I was thinking about f1 as ever and how it would work as general enetrtainment sources via games, boardgames and the like and I got myself...

...what would F1 Monopoly be like? As ever, I decided I needed to make it.

So.... here it is. :) I want it to actually happen now though!!

  • Jon Waldock18/07/2009 at 22:28

So.... here it is. :) I want it to actually happen now though!!

    that is brilliant!

  • Lukeh18/07/2009 at 22:32

It was actually annoying to get the prices in an order that made sense. Took this year into consideration but then the history of the drivers... hence why you have lewis and whatnot with pricey prices despite their dismal season, and lots of other stuff that realy shouldn't have gone into consideration considering it's just photoshopping.

    Once you get going though...

  • RG18/07/2009 at 22:33

    Once you get going though...

Well, cheaper to get a Timo I suppose.

  • Jon Waldock18/07/2009 at 22:34

I'm sitting here staring at it, i'm just amazed, its amazing. Just. Wow

  • Lukeh18/07/2009 at 22:34

Well, cheaper to get a Timo I suppose.

if it's any consolation, I made the example card in the middle in thought of a mr RG.

We need an online version so we can all play against each other in a totally non-competitive way.

We shall fight to see who makes the best toast. Winner gets the rights.

Just a thought Mr Lukeh. Ever played The Game of Life? Not wanting you to run back to photoshop, how good would a The Game of F1 Life be?

  • lou18/07/2009 at 22:37

Just a thought Mr Lukeh. Ever played The Game of Life? Not wanting you to run back to photoshop, how good would a The Game of F1 Life be?

I have not I'm afraid. I've played games, and am currently playing Life (difficult keeping with all that breathing and keeping alive business) but the game of life? No sir.
