Friday has arrived at long last, and we are well on the way to getting to the weekend. There is news aplenty in the F1 world, so let's see what's going on:
- It's all about confirmations, as Toro Rosso announced they were definitely getting rid of Bourdais. I have discussed this more here, but it's also interesting that Le Seb thinks he has a case for his lawyers to look into against the team. When was the last time a driver came off well when he tried to sue his team?
- Jean Todt also confirmed his intention to stand for the FIA Presidency in October as well. He says he wants to improve the efficiency of the FIA but also their independence, because he is aware the organisation governs motoring and sports equally. Hmm.
- McLaren have improved since the start of the season, no doubt, but have they really improved so much they can win? Martin Whitmarsh seems to think so, and this is discussed on F1 Minute and the Big Pic.
As ever, tell us if you are planning anything exciting for the weekend - it's a non-GP weekend, so you'd better be making the most of it. I'll see you in the comments.
I'm flying home on Sunday to visit my family. I'm already missing my Internet connection.
oh-no. how long for?
If the rain holds off, Dad and I are hoping to catch up on some golf on Saturday - we've not played for a month, it'll be a disaster!! On Sunday I will either finish my Goodwood blogs or catch up on podcasts or TV or something. Lazy day planned.
Is it right to miss your connection more than your family?
3 weeks. You haven't any panels planned. have you?
Hi all
If the weather allows me (and if there is enough snow) I should be skiing both days.
no, no. was just concerned that you'd suffer withdrawal.
Actually you're right, 3 weeks is a long time without a decent connection...
hey guille.
aww no! 3 weeks without super fast internet!! :( i'd hate that... i'm sure it will be nice to see your family though :)
heya
yeah I guess ;)
;) although i'm still horrified at the thought of not having a constant internet connection for 2 weeks when i'm in spain... i'm missing a GP and everything. you'll get some sort of internet connection with seeing your family though right? you wont be totally out of the loop for 3 weeks? (if so my best wishes are with you :) )
well tomorrow i'm off to london for the day with my friends (which should be lovely in the rain that's forecast) and then one of my friends has a birthday party so i'll be back saturday sometime, ready for a weekend of rest! wohoo! :) first full weekend of rest for ages! :)
I'm jealous at the amount of times you visit London. Enjoy the rest!
i love london! and it's only like an hour or so away from where i live on the train so it's really easy to get to :)
Yeah they have a decent speed flatrate. Am just veeeery spoiled.
And I can watch Formula1 live and in full again.
Im thinking of going to the Ferrari store tomorrow. Depends on if i am going out in london tomorrow night
is it there something like "internet-dependent anonymous"?
"lou, you have a problem with internet and the first step to solve it is to accept it" ;-)
yay! :) that's good :)
3.5 hours :-(
But I've been a lot as my sister lives there - she's moving out in a fortnight though.
i'm hoping to drag my friends to regent street tomorrow... just so i can go into the apple store for a bit. they will probably realise my plan though...
Technically that's 2 3/4 to London and the rest crossing it to her place
but if i wasn't on the internet i'd have to go outside more.. and the outside is a bit dangerous, just ask Christine and Mr C ;)
Do you think it would have a website?
You are internet dependent! :P
I will be the guy looking at the Kimi hats!
she's right.
:D
:D
no it's more for me to ooggle at the amazing macs and say 'i want one' about a thousand times... it's almost a ritual ;)
:D
ehehe :D
I hope not otherwise it will be the end of sidepodcast
negation and search for false excuses :-)
Ah, i just treat it as a free internet cafe!
:D
I just realised. Bernie was going to sort F1 in 48 hours and he has failed/ Again. Bernie your time is up.
Is he using a SidePodWatch?
Gavin got a reply on jakes blog...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2009/07/an_earpiece_of_the_action.html
hehe
go jake!
:D
Tell him on Twitter, he might not see it here if he's going to the Outpost.
and that's great, btw :-)
Sorry, Steven, the non-F1 fan girlfreind has been keeping away from F1 since Germany. What's going on with Bernie now ?
He said earlier in the week he was going to sort out all the political stuff and the FOTA breakaway in 48 hours and it didn't work.
awesome!
Hola, Sidepodcasters
Hi Joe
Hola Joe
How Brazilian we are... THIS became hype around here in Brazil (I loved too!). It is a good ring tone…
So what's up today. I rejoiced with another guy at the golf course today over Max being unemployed soon. Think of it, another American that knows F1
Oh, come on Steven, as guille2306 said, you know the man works on Sidepodcasttime, where every hour is 90 minutes long, he stil lhas another 24 more hours to go... :P
He might need another week or 2...
The only big news today is that Lou had her first ever driving lesson and didn't kill anyone.
In the same golf course. And the world is still spining? :-)
were you expecting me to kill someone?
Big news indeed. But don't we worry about the world being overpopulated?
His pronouncement came just after the two head honchos of CV (both Jewish) hauled him over the coals for his Hitler comments. So he did the usual thing of putting out a headline grabbing item to bury the bad news. I dout that he had any intention of sorting the problems.
I thought you were worried about that
He can switch to SidepodSpace time, in which there are holds in the countdowns...
He hasnt gone yet. I nwill belive it when i see it.
Anything can be manufactured between now and the elections...
Todt quits the race for one reason or another so max has to run 'in the interests of democracy'
oh... i could have been (i think i worry way too much about everything). i was more worried about being rubbish and crashing, but not killing anyone is always good :)
Obviously everyone took the tube! The London Underground system must have been a zoo ! :P
CVC need him more than he needs them.
If he walks away the banks wont re-finance them and they go bust.
Valid point Nick
In case you guys were wondering, no birdies, no eagles, no holes in one. But I will caution you on walking a course in Florida in the middle of summer at 1500. It is freaking hot!!!!!!
I forgot about Bernie's planned holds
I don't know, times are changing and Bernie is losing his mighty power. But it's true that he's a known face, and he knows how to run the business.
Can i top that with a desert course in dubai in the middle of summer?
Yikes! You're frightening me now.
Moblin update: I'm not smart enough for this. It took me 5 minutes to find out how to switch off the computer.
It was a few years back, when i though golf was the best thing ever!
48 C 100% humidity.
Fun:D
Yes, I can see that Joe in Fla is wondering how do you stay out of the bunkers at the Dubai Golf Course. You don't. It's what goes for the fairways there!
TopTip: If in doubt... throw things at it
ahh. okay.
does it have skype?
I didn't realise you had bought one. How is it working out otherwise?
Ouch
If you are interested in where the bunkers are in the course I played today, I can point them out to you.....every single one of them
on a desert course the fairways are raked sand, you can use a mat, the rough is deeper no mat allowed.
No greens... Browns (oil and sand mixed and packed very hard raised 2ft off the ground)
I'm off to get some sleep. see you all sometime saturday! have a good friday all! night! x
I miss it a little over here
Night, live comment the apple store!
see you, Lou
Night.
not by default. But there is at least one person who managed to install it.
link
That's insane!
Night Lou.
i like ubuntu!
night lou.
See, I was not joking. packed sand is no different than being stuck in a bunker the day after a decent rain...
night lou
Is anyone else worried about Jean Todt running for President of the FIA?
Night Lou!
http://www.pilotguides.com/tv_shows/adventure_golf/guides/dubai/dubai_country_club.php
do you have the netbook version?
yup. jaunty remix something-or-other.
Moblin? It looks very flashy. Very easy to navigate with the touchpad and it really is optimised for the small screen. I like it so far. I can't really test it properly because I don't have any internet connection for the 'netbook'.
the computer? I love it. It's a medion and up until now I don't have any complains.
:D Ubuntu has the best names
So:
I am delighted my team will be going for wins again (Yay)
I do not want Toad in charge (Booo)
and are STR getting rid of Bourdais just to give not-seb some testing? (why)
Maybe Christine will get a Puzzling Panda in erm 3 years.
According to AUTOSPORT they have an agreement with Citroen to put Loeb in the car as soon as he clinches the rally championship and I guess Bourdais's performance clause had a deadline it had to be activated by. So they have to get rid of him now or keep him until the end of the season.
AUTOSPORT also said that they will probably give Hartley a race or two as well as Jimmy Superaguri. But in the end Loeb is called Sebastien. If the WRC goes down to the wire Loeb will only do the last race of the season.
:D
Thats actually pretty exciting
I never took the whole Loeb thing seriously. OK, his name is Seb, but can he be on the pace? This only makes sense if it is a fully pay-drive. The only one that makes sense to be is Hartley, and I thought he had gone back to junior formulas?
So it IS true, then? Dang. But Loeb fell behind in the title stakes already. He won't win the title until late.
And morning, everyone.
Pay drive? They are all red bull drivers and it is still a red bull team!
Hi Journeyer, yes he needs to stop crashing. Not sure what has happened to the guy, he looked invincible early in the year.
Loeb has a Red Bull deal for his rallying so I guess they are picking up the tab, He will get them more publicity in France on the day he signs than Bourdais did in 18 months.
I realise that. But they need someone who can perform in F1. Otherwise, the Loeb thing only makes sense to me if they are geting outside money for him to drive
They reckoned that until he started crashing he could have done 7 F1 races but the worst case scenario he will only do the last race.
Maybe they're scheming to make the WRC watchable again? Hehehe. ;)
But seriously, it could just be Loeb getting a little overconfident, then when Mikko started winning, he started feeling the pressure and he became more error-prone.
That said, I fully expect him to end his crashing streak and win the next rally.
I didn't take it seriously at all... but now I think, maybe he'll do one race? Can't see any more than that.
Time to leave this for the night shift, see ya tomorrow. :-)
Perhaps only doing 1 race this season isn't so bad - it'll save him from embarrassment in case he isn't quick enough. And it's gonna be at Abu Dhabi - he won't be the only one learning the circuit.
Its good publicity for red bull though, especially in France after sacking Le Seb 1.0.
What do we call him, Rally Seb? Or Le Seb 2.0?
Turun sanomat had an article that he will drive in the last race, which takes place after the rally championship is over.
Yes, I guess so.
Do you think he'll only be racing once, Kathi? Or do you think he will he be in F1 next season?
The Real Le Seb?
Le Seb's Revenge?
How-many-people-are-called-Seb?
This season? I don't think he will do more than one F1 race. And if he'll do F1 next season depends on how that race goes.
A shame he started crashing, then, if he's only gonna race the one time.
AUTOSPORT say he will be racing next season. Citroes say they will let him see how it goes this season and if F1 doesn't work out for him he can drive their rally car next season.
Interesting. Well, if Rally Seb is only gonna race once this year, I think he will be in F1 next year. (Assuming that the one race isn't an utter disaster).
His move to F1 reminds me of Niki Lauda's comeback at McLaren after he retired. It really doesn't matter how good he is his PR value is worth the cost. I assume Mateschitz is not going to make the same error on that front that Ron Dennis did.
I wonder if Bourdais could get a drive with one of the 3 new teams. He might be worth it for his knowledge of a modern car, and all the tracks.
What mistake did Ron make?
He could be in the frame for USF1 (he still does have some mindshare with US audiences), but even there, I'd see him as a long-shot.
He tested the RBR at the begining of this year, and made very respectable times for somebody that never did open wheel racing (something like less than 2 seconds off the top times). Lack of testing, on the other hand, will hurt him...
Thats exactly right, and he has no opertunity until after the season to test, and then the team want someone who can develope the new car
I dont think its that easy.
I assume Manor will go for ex Manor drivers, Campos want spanish drivers and USF1 want americans... like j said its possible, but i think JV has more of a shot there if they go down that route
Toro Rosso don't exactly develop their own car, do they? Red Bull does that for them. So I don't think it would them as much car-wise. But it will hurt Seb's chances experience and mileage-wise.
Doing a race weekend will mean he cant do the driver evaluation testing, so maybe he will wait unill next year instead of doing just 1 event in 09
I thought STR had to start making their own car as of next year?
(puts on the 'let's roll a nonsensical gossip' hat)
Unless RBR wants him for next year in the place of Vettel who goes to Ferrari to be the team mate of Alonso ;-)
Lauda wanted a big salary to race. He basically wanted to be paid as a double world champion. Ron who was fairly new to F1 at that time told him that he had not raced for a few seasons and therefore should be paid less. Lauda's answer was that in promotional value alone he was worth what he was asking so he would take one dollar for driving and the rest for his promotional value.
The following year Ron asked id he was happy to have the same value on his contract. Lauda told him that he had only been paid a dollar to drive last year and had now proved that he was good enough to race at the front and his promotional value was not less than it had been a year ago so he would like the same promotional fee but his driving fee would need to go from one dollar to that of a top driver.
I think Ron learned how to negotiate from Lauda.
Really? Are customer cars still an issue?
It won't happen... in 2010. ;)
From next year, they should. The semi-customer loophole they use will be outlawed as far as I remember.
Anyone interested in twitters leaked plan to take over the world?
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/16/twitters-internal-strategy-laid-bare-to-be-the-pulse-of-the-planet/?awesm=tcrn.ch_62z&utm_campaign=techcrunch&utm_content=shorturl&utm_medium=tcrn.ch-copypaste&utm_source=twitter.com
Cheeky chap, that wily old Niki. But there is a reason why Lauda Air did relatively well.
*hint hint* Hehehe. :D Very good point there, guille.
Of course Raikkonen and Massa could both decide they need a new challenge and walk away from their Ferrari contracts and sign for Manor
Oh how we laughed ;-)
Even if neither leave after this season, their contracts expire at the end of next season.
And I still think Kimi's leaving at the end of this one.
No, I think Kimi will go to fill the place of Loeb at Citroën, while Massa starts a new team with Rob, called Christine's Pandas
Citroen don't need Loeb - they have a Dani Sordo. That said, Kimi might be of good PR value.
People are rational... if they see no incentive or bennefit to innovation they wont do it.
It always amuses me how much time and effort companies waste trying to change human nature.
Thing is, we're chasing down a global certification that requires us to innovate. Which is why time and effort is being spent to make it happen.
But what kind of incentive or benefit will make people take notice? I have some options, but I have to balance it with what I have available.
Recognise (and reward if you can afford it) people who inovate on a monthly basis.
Make it clear to people that if they can inovate the company will see it and it will benefit their career.
You cant make people do more in a situation they are comfortable in unless you change the status quo
People don't like to stand out from the crowd. If everyone is doing it then people will embrace it as the norm. Don't offer money. It will not work. Even if it does what are you going to do when your budget is spent?
What does the business do?
RB has a competiion going
when was my first ever go kart race?where did I started and finished?
Journeyer if you read this, I need a name to whom to send the T-shirt? Can I use yours?
Mr Journeyer?
So Jean Todt has confirmed he's running for the FIA president, if he wins I can just see mad max making this announcement at the press conference " I would like to introduce you to the new President of the FIA, I call him mini-me. I hope Ari gets enough support to stop this from happening.
Oh! Yes. Can I email the name to you?
What's your email?
Or better yet, drop me a message at the Wiki where to email you.
:D it won't go straight to me. it'll go to my relatives in the US first, then they'll send it to me.
sent you an email
Kathi ca superfast broadband answer rubens question?
reply sent. got it?
It would be so depressing if he got elected
It wouldn't matter, GP1 would break away
I have to get up early tomorrow. Bye all.
Not if they are daft enough to sign a Concorde Agreement before the election.
Night Guille
Are CVC powerful enough to be able to influence the election?
True, very true
Night all
It's possible that Bernie could do deals. He got Max elected in the first place. The interesting thing in AUTOSPORT today is that in the week running up to the German race Todt was campaigning in Africa on board a jet owned by the FIA.
Night Nick
Nuff said, really. But what would anyone be able to do about it?
He finished 3rd that's all. It's fast not all-knowing :)
Journeyer,
What kind of innovation are you trying to create? Are you looking for people to optimise existing processes or to create new?
What does the business do/make?
Is the Philipines culture more open/Western than some other Asian cultures? I know for example in Japan they can have problems with people suggesting something because they fell it is not their place to question their superiors.
The only thing that will change the culture is if Ari gets elected. I am sure Bernie would be happy with Todt as he will carry on the way Max would.
Both - whatever they're more comfortable doing, or whatever's more appropriate for what their role is.
IT services
Very good question - I think we're more open than other Asian cultures. We're usually open to accepting change, but we're usually closed to making the change ourselves. I'm in a multinational company, so we are able to discuss with and question our superiors (at least to some degree), but I think what's missing is the motivation to innovate.
But FOTA is happy with Ari. And as of now, CVC is happy when FOTA is happy. Could be interesting.
So long as the culture allows people not to feel uncomfortable then you have a chance. I think in that case you have to convince the management to drive culture change and if necessary to get someone in to do it. It sounds like you want to avoid all the standard lean gurus etc and put in some simple systems to get people to question how things are done.
Provided it is driven from the top there is no reason why you should not meet your certification requirement very quickly.
So you're familiar with lean? Wow. :D
Yup, simplicity is key here. I don't want to overcomplicate things - I just want to ensure that people are motivated to innovate - and at the same time, they're innovating with a purpose, not just innovating for innovation's sake.
talking about different cultures ? here is something rather funny but accurate I think :
http://jurl.it/Dug1
I love it, Wolf. It's brilliant - and true!
One of the things about having spent a lot of time in manufacturing is that I have been through every fad there has ever been. Quality circles, SPC, TQM, 6 sigma, lean etc etc. The thing is these tend to be driven by people like the car companies who insist everyone use their system Then 3 years later they bring out out a new system. I know of a company who had to change all their systems to get an approval and then a couple of years later the company that made them change changedtheir own system to the one that was taken out.
It sounds like you need a combination of motivation and maybe some simple SPC to get people to measure what they are doing. Once they are measuring improvement targets can be set and once you get people improving to targets you can get them into more meaningful improvement.
Wow - I really like it. I encourage everyone to take a look at it. :)
well I will probably be a bit careful spreading that link around my office :-)
BINGO! You hit the nail right on the head, Steven.
It seems that it is not only history we have in common. You are indeed a guru. :D
:D
Very interesting Wolf.
interesting, but I fighting and trying to cope with those differences on daily basis. sometimes not funny and often very costly
I have been through a lot of this and have introduced similar things in a few companies I have worked for. It can give you really good returns if the person running it knows what they are doing. I have done it at department level and simply not told management at times and it can be made to work but for certification and to be honest to get real benefit management needs to introduce it company wide. There is no point having one department innovating and the people going to lunch with people from other departments de-motivate them.
It's difficult when you have two cultures that are programmed differently to try to get them to work together.
I caught the Chequered Flag preview (July 10) for the German GP and John Howett was saying that by next week if the basic conditions that were agreed on isn't put into a binding document FOTA would proceed with the breakaway, he did say progress was being made. How much progress is anybody's guess but I guess we'll find out in a matter of days, maybe.
most important is we programmed it well with wife at home :-)
Very true on ALL counts. I can completely relate to what you're saying. Management is more open to innovation now than they used to (thanks to that certification), but they could be a lot more proactive in making it happen. And that's what I need to get doing. Thank you very much for the insight, Steven. :)
So your wife isn't Chinese, then?
she is :-)
oh - so you're the one who's not Chinese, then?
I just remembered your real name. Hehe.
no, I am not :-)
If I can help in any way let me know
Time for bed for me. Good night all.
I definitely will, Steven. Your experience in this area would be invaluable. Thank you. Good night. :)
Morning all,
Didn't Jos Verstappen or Heinz-Harald Frenzten manage to sue Tom Walkinshaw (of Arrows) for sacking them?
Sounds familiar... Actually I think it might have been both of them at different times.
I thought Frentzen sued Jordan, not Arrows? That was after EJ suddenly sacked him in 2001.
Yes agreed. Sorry I meant... I remember both of them suing their bosses.
Yeah I think you're right. Sorry about that :(
suing is one thing, but being surprised and shocked does hint at Mr Bourdais being seriously distant from the reality.
Here's a quote from Bourdais' best mate, Paul Tracy, taken from a blog he writes:
OK sorry I just saw there was a naughty word in there :(
By the way, apparently today is the centenary of the birth of Audi. Yay!
Twitter is annoying me and more :(
What happened?
that is tough ...
Nothing really; but if I stop following people don't be mad it's just because I'm not interested in you ;)
Anyway, have you seen Jake's answered you on his blog?
I didn't mean you (Gavin). English is difficult.
I'm not that interesting anyway, but I find an organising program like TweetDeck really helps your enjoyment of Twitter...
Ooh no I hadn't - thanks for the heads up!
Do you think Christine might not like Jake now?
You actually have a pretty good grasp of it, Kathi. ;)
Actually you have very good English - have you lived in an English-speaking country?
Ah yes, you reverted to the plural version of 'you' which has no equivalent in English but exists in almost every other language (including Danish!)
Are we heading down this road next year with the new teams?
Nick noticed it
Thanks to Nick as well then ;)
Phoenix F1 wasn't a proper attempt to start a new team - it was Tom Walkinshaw's attempt to get the Prost assets for himself and for Arrows.
I had heard that at the time too. Are we assuming all three of next years' entries to be 100% above board?
F1 at Kemble. 17 July
Two white, unbranded trucks are on the runway so I assume its Brawn. There is a driver wandering around in white overalls - and unless my eyes deceive me its Anthony Davidson?
Cheers,
Rob Sinfield
Sounds perfectly sensible to me.
When even Manor is a serious outfit (if a bit tainted), I think it's safe to assume that Campos and USF1 are above board too.
Cool! :D
Morning :)
Mark Webber's going to have surgery after the Hungarian GP to remove the pins in his leg and has finally admitted what we all knew - his leg wasn't exactly 100% when the season started. Link
thinking about those paper tigers with three serious teams selected and another perhaps four left behind (Prodrive, Lola, N Technology, Epsilon Euskadi) ... Well all of these probably can make it to and survive in F1 for a while but not at the same time...
Moooooooorning all :D
Just woke up, how are we all?
On the wiki transcript goodness:
1) Did I miss who submitted episode 73? There was no name assigned to that show in the wiki and it popped up in dropio a few days ago.
2) I have made a terrible mistake, putting episode 98 in both F1 Debrief and Aside with Joe categories (technically it is in both categories, but d'oh!) Both Scott and Amy have signed up so I will need them to fight over who gets to do it.
Glad it's Friday. You?
Same, doing good ta, had a very fun night last night, even got stuck out in the rain, alot of fun!
Did you forget your keys?
Nope, but we were along way from home when it started raining
Apparently we are getting 50mm in Denmark over the weekend. I'm a bit worried because we are house-sitting in a 200-year-old farmhouse and I'm sure it will leak...
ooh, badd, sand bags?
It looks very grim here, i'm hoping it does rain. I love rain soooo very much
Raining here in Kemble - I can hear the car going up the runway though but damned if I'm going out unless I can locate the office brolly!
Well I haven't started it, so Scott is welcome to it :D
Thanks Amy.
Nlesinho survived for now, he will race in Hungary
Am on hold with a company and it sounds like they are playing Macy Gray at me. Not sure I approve.
I was on hold during last years Clearing, and the song i was played was Akon - Beautiful Girl, which has the lyrics...
"That's why it will never work
You'll have me suicidal, suicidal
When you say it's over "
hmmm
I know someone whose company only had the Dido album on repeat for held calls - and didn't change it for years!
About one hour of every single one of my working days is listening to the hold music of a phone company. They never ever change it and I have nightmares about being Australian, since their hold music likes to tell me that I am.
Yay! We are having a BBQ at work today! ...but sadly, a BBQ is not a sandwich :(
Ooh BBQ. We had pizza and since I worked from 10.30-6.30 I got pizza at lunch for the morning staff and at dinner for the late staff.
I wonder if he responded to my Twitter...?
we are having beers today, as every Friday, better than sandwich :-)
I can't believe this, second weekend in a row we are going to have typhoon here ... why they always decide to spoil weekend weather ...
was it rachel? i remember thanking someone for it. gimmie 5, i'll check.
nope, that was aside 7. in that case i've no idea.
I've got one episode of the Joe show from Rachel.
A phantom transcriber! This is excellent!
anyone think we should add arrington/techcruch to the unmentionables list?
What's he done now? Was he involved
really? coool. that's unexpected.
don't ask and yes.
*insert conspiracy theory here*
;)
I googled. Not surprised really. I support the motion to move him to the unmentionables...
haha. sadly he's already racing next weekend, so couldn't take rubens place even if he wanted too.
christine found some brilliant tweets about him yesterday.
i'll add him now.
oooh, is it portamao LMS next weekend?
The only redeeming thing about Twitter at the moment is the trending topics. Some of the things people say are hilarious.
spa 24hr i think.
ooh, yes. :D
Villeneuve, right?
BOL 1019 is just about to discuss it too...
Just saw this....
"Tom Chilton came close to damaging both his Ford Focus and team transporter in a high-speed stunt that almost – but not quite – went wrong in front of thousands of onlookers."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JudUDft0lgk
What was the stunt? ;/
It says he crashed, but if you actually look at the video he stopped a foot or so before the transporter. It should have been fine, but he locked up!
No, i mean, it says "a stunt nearly goes wrong" so im wondering wat the stunt was meant to be
Oh right hehe, if you go on the BTCC website it has the full story which probably makes a bit more sense, i just stole a quote for the video
Tom Chilton is friends with one of my friends from uni.
I haven't actually met him, but from what i have seen and heard from my mate, the guy is absolutely nuts!
It only took AUTOSPORT 36 hours to catch up with the news?
Wooo, schooooooooools out for summer. Am now happy, apart from the fact I walked home in heavy rain. Hows everyone?
yay. go rg!
all good here.
He's on Facebook too...
Yay! Drinks at Chateau RG?
Em, well only me home, and I'm useless at food and drink.
All good here too :)
woooooop, good feeling :D
im gooood, and about to get better, off out for a lovely ride, im not leaving because of you, promise ;)
that's cause it's no longer thursday :)
I have thought of a way out, if the FIA faces a breakaway of its own, which it may well do with todt, the teams would have genuine grounds to walk away/
Since R.G. has mentioned that he's on Summer holidays the sun has come out from behind the clouds!
The wind has picked up here. Still raining.
Oh dear :(
It's probably just me... But does the first motorhome (the black one in this shot) look a bit like a giant camera?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/on-a-cold-and-wet-july-day-jpg
No? Maybe it's just me...
i think it'd be deceiving driving towards it. you'd get the impression the road goes on forever.
Does anyone know how to make a macro in excel that can copy and paste every fourth entry in a column of data?
Brawn at Kemble...
Fair to say that they are concentrating on getting heat into the tyres!
Davidson is caning the life out of the car, non stop practice starts, slowing down then giving it huge welly - rear of the car stepping out all the time.
Fun to watch though!
Rob Sinfield.
Roar! I'm eating a King-Sized Line Ice cream in a cone! Roar!
Copy and paste it where?
Is there normally just 1 red arrow there?
http://www.kemblecam.co.uk/
yeah. it doesn't have an engine.
into a new column...
Yes - this is no longer the home of the Red Arrows - just F1 teams and airliners that have come to die...
Rob
Without using a macro... If it's a one off situation and you want to just grab some data the fastest way is...
Imagine you have all your data running from A2 down to A100.
Then put in B2 a 1
Then in B3 put =if(A2=4,1,A2+1)
Then fill down with this. Copy and paste values in the column and sort grab the 4s.
put =if(B2=4,1,B2+1)
Just quickly dropping by to say I've uploaded on to the drop what I've done for the transcript, unfortunatly I'm not going to be able to complete it but anyone else is welcome to do so. I'm not going to be around for the next while unfortunatly :(
Where are you off to?
Don't judge this program please... This is very quick and dirty but it will do what you want I think Gavin...
Sub gavinssub()
x = 0
y = 0
For Each Cell In Range("A2:A100")
x = x + 1
If x = 4 Then
y = y + 1
Cell.Copy Range("B" & y)
x = 0
End If
Next Cell
End Sub
No where exciting, I'm going to be internet-less for a while because of family problems.
Button is on twitter? Looks to be incredibly lame compared to the two Brazillians.
sorry to hear that james. appreciate the transcript. pls yell loudly when you're back.
OK, hope you get it sorted and see you soon dude...
Sorry to hear that James. Hope things get sorted soon.
All the Best James
Thanks Alex :)
How do you stop a macro when it hits a blank cell?
if cell.value = "" then exit sub
Giggles, you fixed it for me! :D
:)
Just hope nobody who works for me ever sees that code... ;)
No variables defined... THE HORROR! ;)
http://www.leemckenzie.tv/full_story.asp?pageref=37
Lee explains a lot about her work around 'the pen'
I wonder who the former GP2 driver was that she doesn't get along with? Lewis?
I don't think it's Lewis no. For some reason I guessed Nico.
"although English speakers always come to me first"
oh goodie. i have a question for 5live come next friday then.
:)
Whats that?
who gets to the drivers first, lee or holly.
Just had an email from Keith the Marshal. He's off to F2 this weekend, Brands, is it? Will let us know how it goes afterwards.
Ah, there is a list.. some bits of it were leaked a few years ago.
It will be Lee as tv takes priority.
I think it goes home tv ...big 3 tv countries, home radio then whatever the driver feels like
Yes, Brands - the WTCC round...
Team, not driver, sorry
are you sure? mind you, all the more reason to ask :)
I am not certain, bu i do remember seeing something, it was about 3 years out of date. F1 digital + had priority over itv which annoyed some people!
Anyone want to kill their friday productivity?
This is very addictive http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/demolition_city
To prove that such a thing is possible I have dropped a picture of me wearing a shirt without a collar...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-121
I'm sure this will be very exciting for everyone ;)
As ever, tell us if you are planning anything exciting for the weekend – it’s a non-GP weekend, so you’d better be making the most of it. {Original entry}
The usual stuff - visit to town, visit to Grandma's, swimming club, blogging and assorted computer-related activities.
Oh my god!! What's the occasion?
But you look unhappy :(
is that the sidepodtee underneath?
Well I am working from home today and I thought that perhaps you all deserved a Friday treat - this sounds totally bonkers I realise!
This is the only non Sidepodcast non-collared shirt that I own.
Aww. How long before you get changed though?
No. I don't know much about these things but this shirt seems to have a fake undershirt that doesn't really go under the shirt. I know this is probably old hat to all of you people but it was quite a revelation to me!
The internet dependency conversation early this morning was interesting. I couldn't get onto the internet this morning and was quite unhappy about it. Initially Mum and I thought blame belonged to the BT people who have dug a hole in the road opposite to fix a cable. It turned out to be something closer to home - the software had "forgotten" the password to get onto the internet, meaning I had to wait for Dad to type it in again...
Do you feel like your neck can move too much and is slightly out of control?
a mock collar.
It's utter madness I tells you!
Like the turtles? So much to learn.
Why are you not allowed to know the password?
I might see how it goes for the rest of the afternoon. It can't hurt that much can it?
Here you are Gavin - a smiling version especially for you!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-1
Much better - carry on then! :)
Hehehe. I like that one.
Oh noes! Disaster... I was just off to the kitchen to make some coffee... Where do I put my iPhone as I wonder around listening to music as I go?
This shirt has malfunctioned! There are no pockets! I'm looking at the manual and there is only washing instructions! What's going on?
christine... can you dig it?
You can see in the backround ready at all times the apple box with the "Just an F1 Minute" topics in it.
... yes you can?
I have this problem a lot.
in fairness, the mock turtles game is a bit rubbish. they only have one song and it only has about four words in it.
madchester fail.
steve pulled the nano from the pocket with no purpose. suppose you don't own any jeans either?
You need an obscure band with an enormous back catalogue. Not easy to find?
I do have a pair somewhere I think...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-4
i don't believe you,
Bit much to ask, though, jeans AND no collar in one afternoon!
Pics or it didn't happen?
always.
Do you own a hat? you could wear that with the iphone underneath?
According to AUTOSPORT they have an agreement with Citroen to put Loeb in the car as soon as he clinches the rally championship and I guess Bourdais’s performance clause had a deadline it had to be activated by. So they have to get rid of him now or keep him until the end of the season.
AUTOSPORT also said that they will probably give Hartley a race or two as well as Jimmy Superaguri. But in the end Loeb is called Sebastien. If the WRC goes down to the wire Loeb will only do the last race of the season. {Comment #100}
There is a problem with this theory. A team is only allowed four drivers per season. While it could have any two of Alguesuari, Hartley and Loeb in Toro Rosso, it couldn't have all three unless there was no choice (for example because three of the four drivers were injured or refused to have anything whatsoever to do with the team any more).
Besides, Sebastién seems to think his contract's been broken, so the Contracts Recognitions Board could require Toro Rosso to re-hire him if they lose the court case before the end of the season (unlikely but possible).
Mind you, Mum has a theory that Hartley is going to replace Webber while Mark recovers from the surgery he's having on his leg after next race. I don't think she's checked the gap between Hungary and Valencia (which is four weeks and thus ample time for Mark to recover), but other than that it would have been a neat solution to the "problem" of three drivers for one seat.
he does.
would you be surprised to learn there's a pic of him wearing it in drop.io?
i thought you didnt like coffee
:)
hehe, I would be surprised if there wasnt!"
Is it big enough to fit an iphone under?
This could be the start of a new craze
Found them!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-7
I had to use a very strange angle to take that picture unaided!
Yay!
What else can we make him do?
you didn't say your jumper was of the hypercolor variety?
trainers?
I would like giggles to fix it for me to not have stingey legs (nettle bushes + bike rides) and don't anyone say doc leaves because that sooo didnt work
It works!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-9-10
did you spit on them first?
:D :P !!
Ah now I really don't think I have any of those... I'll have a quick look.
you're making that up?! you have to spit on it?!
Hahahaha!
I thought STR had to start making their own car as of next year? {Comment #133}
That is correct.
You spit on the dock leaves!
scrunch and spit. yes.
ah, this would explain why it made them worse. that and i always get confused as to which ones are dock leaves
No trainers :(
the ones that don't sting you.
boo... christine?
I know what nettles are, it just depends what else is near by as to how confused i get
I have trainers, yes.
any other sort of shoe?
Crush the dock leaves to get the juice out and then rub that on your leg.
If you spit its up to you ;)
Plimsolls?
Well I often wear shoes. I don't think that's the point.
What about shorts?
Is this a "how many ways can you store your iphone" session?
I thought it was a "see what's in Alex's wardrobe" session?
and now his legs... apparently.
;)
Aha that I can do I was wearing shorts before this began:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-13-14
Gosh after all this changing it's probably time for a snack...
Luckily I keep a few Nachos in my hat:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-12-13
she's not having one.
(the polar bear, that is)
Didn’t Jos Verstappen or Heinz-Harald Frenzten manage to sue Tom Walkinshaw (of Arrows) for sacking them? {Comment #200}
Verstappen might have done, but I think Pedro de la Rosa did as well. They probably weren't the only two. Tom Walkinshaw simply wasn't very tactful about dropping drivers.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen wouldn't have sued Tom Walkinshaw about his contract ending early because his stint at Arrows was effectively paid for by Jordan. The Silverstone squad ended up settling out of court with him after dismissing HHF days before his home Grand Prix in 2001.
The increasing prominence of the CRB has reduced the number of court cases significantly over the past few years because most matters can be settled with the CRB's before irretrievable actions are taken.
:D
:D
:D
suing is one thing, but being surprised and shocked does hint at Mr Bourdais being seriously distant from the reality. {Comment #205}
Perhaps Sebastién was expecting any dismissal to be done at some other point, for example at the end of the month (which would have put the dismissal after Hungary) or the end of last month (which would have put the dismissal before Germany and he might therefore have considered himself safe). Sometimes being forced out against procedure can be as shocking as being forced out in the first place...
Doesn't everyone have a polar bear in their house?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/picture-17
(Katherine snuck it in by owning it before we started going out)
Good to see your productivity isn't affected when you work from home Alex!
:)
This is what it's like in the office!
Actually I just rolled a new app I started at 7 this morning into production. I think I'm doing okay!
Does lou know that Jenson Button is tweetering?
My office is sadly, the exact opposite :(
journeyer needs you!
I had heard that at the time too. Are we assuming all three of next years’ entries to be 100% above board? {Comment #221}
I'm assuming that Campos and Manor may struggle for sponsors, but that Manor will be helped through by its friendships. USF1 will probably be fine on the grounds that it's been planned for so long. I don't know if they're above board in the other sense because that depends on non-verification of the Cosworth rumours.
There's also the matter of the FIA implicitly invalidating its entire entry list, but that's another story...
I didn't quite see what all of that was about. Innovation in the workplace or somesuch.
From personal experience if innovation starts happening even in a small corner of the firm then everyone starts doing it just to keep up.
..and tweeting badly.
I dont want to know how far he has run, i want him to make jokes about kimi's hat!
same with me. i have worked in places such as that described though, but no for very long!
'suppose if that's the culture, changing it is a challenge.
I know someone whose company only had the Dido album on repeat for held calls – and didn’t change it for years! {Comment #242}
Beats the crackly 1960's lift music my ISP uses!
That's true. It's hard certainly - but worth it. At this current firm at first I had to convince them that they wanted me to do something by building a prototype my spare time. This was many years ago, and now the culture is "give it a go, don't waste too much time, but give it a go".
But sometimes, and at some firms, they don't want to know. And if that's the case it is certainly time to move on - fast!
No where exciting, I’m going to be internet-less for a while because of family problems. {Comment #301}
Hope the problems are resolved soon and everyone becomes happy again.
that may not be the advice he was hoping for but i agree.
I thought it was the other way round and he was trying to figure out how to encourage people to innovate.
Well he can read the first bit only if he likes :)
Weirdly, I feel like if you work at really large or quite small (fewer than 100 people) it's probably easier. In the small firm the changes you can make will be quickly felt. In the large firms they will have systems in place to deal with it. It's probably the firms in between where there are problems.
Ah possibly... I didn't see his original comments...
Glad you're here, I was worried you may have fainted after the shorts! ;)
Hehehe. I like Live Commenting Giggles' Wardrobe. It's fun.
I'm always on the lookout for new live commenting oppertunities :)
Why are you not allowed to know the password? {Comment #337}
Because the connection is through Dad's computer. The rule is that passwords associated with a given computer at home are the sole responsibility of whoever's computer it is (in Mum's case this is easy because her computer doesn't need any passwords at all).
I would now like somebody to pick a letter...
Z
Z?
Thank you...
And a number...
spooky...
72
R
Oh, I'm back. In mid writing blog post.
the best people pick Z ;)
44
Okay I don't have 72 but I went round a few times... Zac and Sarah by Ben Folds. Thank you :)
aha... book or music?
I'll move on to Rat Trap by the Boomtown Rats after Ben Folds...
Thanks all :)
hehe: http://www.last.fm/user/aandronov
Music:
http://vimeo.com/2874304
That's quite mad... Of course!
I'm going to run out of tracks in a second... Any more suggestions?
P24
V 22
Panic by the Smiths
Coming to an apple store near you...
http://tiny.cc/RdeHQ
:D Mr C will love this...
Vally Winter Song by the Fountains of Wayne
British India... i dont know the code :P
Just say a letter and a number.
U 2 ? ;)
The only problem with this one was that Jon chose Panic by the Smiths... Which does contain the line - "Hang the DJ" - whoops! ;)
hahahaha :)
Stop faffing about and play some Hard Rock Alex! :D
What I am doing is I have put all my tracks in alphabetical order and am using the letter then counting down that many.
Weirdly... And this really is weird U2 is Ultraviolet (Light my way) by U2...
:D
:)
hehehe
This is Stuart C's game... As famously mentioned in one of the Daily Grapevine reports from last year.
will it feature a boy inside a tv reading notes you pass him?
A1
I wonder what happens if you pass him a note with "Ctrl Alt Delete" scribbled on it?
:)
B(link) 182 ;)
Actually A1 is A&E by Goldfrapp
:)
hahaha
genius
I have had a look and I was trying to decide what the hardest thing I have is? Pantera? Does that work?
That will do!
Stupid people who think the train is a place where kids can run up and down the aisles screaming and shouting ...DON'T THEY KNOW I'M TRYING TO BLOG FOR F1'S SAKE!!! :(
For the Timo fans among us...
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2009/7/9630.html
wow, that must be some post.
I am listening to the first track as I don't really know the album.
Can you tell that Metal isn't really my area from my top artists from Last FM?
The Flaming Lips
Bob Dylan
The Killers
Morrissey
Martha Wainwright
Amy Winehouse
Goldfrapp
The White Stripes
R.E.M.
Ben Folds
The Divine Comedy
Frank Black and the Catholics
The Fratellis
Grandaddy
Elbow
No, it's just the driver consistencies for Germany that I should have written earlier in the week...
Pantera, Pantano. Going to stop having to read things as if they are F1 all the time.
Eeeeeek, cheers Rich.
White Stripes are quite heavy...
If you look up Indie you find me in the dictionary ;)
Do you have any fruit you can throw at them? a cup of coffee perhaps?
Just target one, the rest will fall into line!
I like it... don't get me wrong. And the Pixies (Frank Black mentioned) is pretty heavy too. But there's a reason why when people are randomly picking it's not that heavy.
OK guys, train is nearly home... I will be offline most of the weekend so have a good one ;)
You too¬!
(U2)
:0
You too!
Does anyone have a source for fastest lap times for each driver for each race? In particular I was wondering who were the ten faster drivers than Rubens in Germany?
I suppose there s no source for the time of each lap for each driver?
Wardrobe update: I have decided to stick with the collarless pocketless mad shirt for the rest of the day but I have drawn the line at jeans and have reverted to shorts.
That sounds Insane! :P
The bear is wearing my hat now it makes him look very serious...

Hehe...Kung-fu teddy!
#sidepodspace update
The shuttle is due to dock with the ISS in 1 hour 20 minutes ish. NASA TV is showing the shuttle from the ISS with the Earth in the background.
howdy
a) how is everyone, any news?
b) has the Firefox update been mentioned? it fixes the slow load time. i timed it today. six minutes. off to install the update..
I am fine thanks, a certain J. Herbert will replace a A. Davidson at Hungary for 5Live, they have just tweeted.
If its not one commentor missing Hungary, its another...
That's not necessarily a bad trade
Link: http://bit.ly/uGFQy
5livef1: "We are delighted to say that Johnny Herbert will be taking Ant's place in the commentary box in Hungary! Good luck to Ant at Spa..."
six minutes to load firefox?
:D
♥
Apologies for ignoring other comments but I am not here.
The shuttle will perform the backflip in about 7 minutes
I really enjoy Ant's commentary so I will miss him - but I too wish him all the luck at Spa. Hopefully Johnny Herbert will not be like DC who was terrible in the last race.
Yes. I think this is partly my computer because I took out a cooling fan and put it in another case - it is a lot faster now though, seconds I think.. Will test again next time I boot from cold.
just updated, startup and shutdown is improved.
Can you ask them what the point is of having both talk to the same drivers, and why it is they can't just use the TV interview on the radio?
I'm not suggesting losing Holly... just a bit of redeployment.
I think the rap repetition is more ingrained than the one with the 'yeah', because this was also my response. It could be that I've blocked it out because of that ruddy advert.
LCLT test. I'm doing a Steven and using it to catch up while reading new stuff in Doohickey. LCLT told me it couldn't post it, then it posted it.
sorry about that, LCLT told me it couldn't submit it, then it appeared in Doohickey, how odd.
you raise a very good question.
tweet from neil re: ant's no show next weekend:
"Driving for Nissan - tech boss being a Mr. Stepney of former F1 fame."
They are two different companies.
Thats why Ant was wearing Brawn gear on the forum the other day,
BBC do the TV stuff
And the radio is done by ??? Productions
usp content
actually, haven't given them a plug in ages. you can get more info on what they do here:
http://uspcontent.com/
Ah... I've heard of them ;)
unnamed f1 cap provider.
:)
Thats the one. I keep thinking what a silly name every time i hear it!
Brave decision, particularly shorts if it is as wet there as it is here, though maybe you are not going outside.
i'm slightly concerned that i just found a video on the site featuring vb-h and she's admitted to enjoying the occasion fig roll.
no vicki, never!
I'm battling through... No plans to go out no. It may be wet outside but hopefully that's not a factor in here. I'm literally pretending that it is summer - I'm wearing shorts and drinking a Sol with a Lime.
Do you not like fig rolls?
Who owns the radio rights, BBC or USP? There is no logical reason why USP can't drop in a BBC clip into a BBC show live on BBC Radio.
Ive just realised i have a similar policy towards shorts as alex does with collars.
I do wear jeans wen i go out 'out', but i cant think of a day in my life where i haven't worn shorts for at least an hour!
i'd eat them, but not a fan. i'd never buy one, put it that way.
Nick in which country do you reside?
Shorts are for use only when it is unbelievably hot.
bernie.
5live use ted on friday's so i don't think there's a problem. shall enquire during friday tweet-fest.
USP sell the commentary to the bbc. but they also sell it to kangaroo at the circuits.
I guess the bbc would charge them to use their content on kangaroo.
I suspect the radio contract with USP is a long term deal which was signed before they got the TV rights so it will all be paid for..
Hm this may be where I'm going wrong with a cardigan-thing and a cup of tea, acting like we're in autumn..
And Ant was on the TV thingamagig
Just finished blog post, about f1, so the inevitable plug
http://thenorthernwaffler.blogspot.com/2009/07/forgotten-man.html
The thing I promised Monday or something.
I think this is incorrect. Shorts are good for relaxed wear.
All good points - though to most people it is things like this which make the BBC appear wasteful
yay rg!
No, those are jeans!
Wha? That's crazy talk ;)
Its too cold for shorts inside today.
Ah RG... You are not yet in charge of the thermostat dial... One day you will be and then every day can be shorts and Sol day ;)
I have just been listening to the White Stripes and I have one question...
What is the hardest Button to Button?
Jenson?
You'll be advocating a slice of fruit cake next if you're not careful. It's July!
I keep making brave attempts at it, but, the buttons are too confusing.
Im in the UK in surrey, but i grew up in Dubai and my family live in Australia...
Fruit cake is evil, raisins are untrustworthy.
Bit cold though! I'm going to have to close the windows if this keeps up.
Ah okay... I do think this shorts behaviour marks us out as fellows who have resided in other countries. I used to live in the US for a while - a long while ago.
I agree... Shorts are the only relaxed wear :D
When i was at uni, my housemates couldn't believe i was wearing shorts in january!
I assume you had the heating on full to get those Dubai temps back?
Unfortunatly not.. students arent fans of heating bills...
Socks, Shorts and big jumpers!
I should add i would have preferred my ugg boots, but if you wear them away from the beach you look silly
Good stuff, have commented :-)
Cheers. :)
#sidepodspace
The space shuttle Endeavour has successfully docked with the ISS.
Is it now the ISSSS?
Funnily enough I had never thought of that before.
Hi guys, just on the way home. One of my colleagues was rather unfortunate this afternoon. She'd quickly gone home to tend to her dog and on the way back was involved in a car crash. Apparently she's ok but her car's badly damaged. :(
I agree it is a very good article - well worth visiting!
not good :-(
Hopefully her insurance covers it...
Jenson driving round the nurbergring like he did with croftie, but video (bad video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ilCS2V_QyI
Hullo all.
Aw man, that sucks. Hope she's ok!
Have we talked about the latest Ask the Expert with Mr Glock? He doesn't do that well, Heikki's lead is safe, but it's interesting the two Toyotas are equal as ever!
I feel in a creative mood this evening. Think I'll write a blog post. Or 4.
I didnt think he did that badly...
He was distracted, clearly, not at his full best. He could get 100% and thats what I'll imagine he got.
Well, you know, I am not one to judge because I am useless at quizzes. I just go by his leaderboard position.
I put the link up earlier for us Timo fans!
Very good. I didn't realise there were so many :)
Looks fun :-)
I am really not sure it is to be taken too seriously, but Heikki has a good memory for stuff - and he likes Nightwish (so do I)
Grrr.... My friends are as unreliable as a peugout grant prix engine....
What to do on a rainy mid summer's friday....
I'm watching the cricket highlights on Five.
I wish I had seen that before the quiz on Wednesday night
Good Idea!
Explode from excitement from hearing unexpected things
I love the Kaizen question. :D We ran that at the office, too.
Well I'm laughing, 2 gone after 10 :-)
Whats unexpected?
Muse's new song going from a really quiet piano melody to a bombtastic spinoff of Lawrence of Arabia and Queen mashed into one massive sounding... massive thing of massiveness. Gah it's so gooooooooooooooooooood. And they've only uploaded about half the song.... I want MORE.
I have officially exploded in excitement.
20 minutes until the front door of the ISS is opened and the shuttle crew are allowed in.
Sorry 10 minutes ish not 20
Ah i have a problem... I dont particularly like music...
Nick who is your favourite artist?
This only means you've listened to the wrong stuff.
Ari is not happy with Max trying to use his position to get Todt elected. I have a feeling the election process could get dirty.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77019
At the moment I like a group form Australia called British India. I dont really listen to much music on purpose though, its fine if you go out in a club or whatever, but i just find it distracting on its own
McNish wants Audi to race more. They have not even committed to the Petit Le Mans yet. They have to race there. Surely they can't miss it.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76981
I read this earlier
http://timesonline.typepad.com/formula_one/2009/07/max-mosley-an-apology.html
What do you think, better for max to stay on than to have todt?
(I'm not really here)
Mr C/Christine: with the sidepodpanel transcript is there a specific way you want the sound effects transcribed?
In my opinion, it's better the puppet master than the marrionette.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21652.html
Looks like Todt has been planning his campaign for a while.
Fail. I mean better to have the puppet master
I agree it distracts you a bit, especially when your concentrating on something else.
I really cannot concentrate on two things.
I like to listen to music when doing homework or coursework or revision even. Finds it relaxes myself.
New Los Minidrivers episode for German GP. Best yet, I think :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNzXi-8Qnbw
Hehe, the sound of rose flying though the air?
How come you arent here?
Music fuels me and makes me happy. Singing to yourself in work is fun :)
That is a great question. The ping is a ping. I am not sure about the rest!
I am not sure to be honest. We know how Max will behave and we strongly suspect how Todt will behave.
Obviously I want neither of them and there seems to be nothing that Max can do that leads to people turning on him so from that point of view maybe Todt would have more chance of being removed.
Rachel makes a good point about better the puppet master than the puppet. Unfortunately in both cases Bernie is the puppet master and he won't stand. He prefers to place people he can control. It is possible that given a little time Todt will start to believe he is actually calling the shots and end the years of Bernie pulling the strings.
haha, thats brilliant! Love sutil/raikonen!
It drives me nuts when people say that, :).
"Come on!" I say to myself "Put on some tunes while writing up essays!" Then end up just forgetting about work completely.
I'm going out to see Harry Potter in about ten minutes :D
Will put a guide on the wiki page, I think.
It helped me when doing accounts coursework because it locked everything else out - without it I found myself distracted by TV or certain websites ;-)
Oh that sounds dodgy! I meant this one!
I think Being forced to sing at school has forever made me hate music, but it is good sometimes, normally if i need something to get me pumped up or when i am feeling rubbish!
Eek! Ha :-)
That annoyed me, but I can now sing Angels by Robbie Williams really well.
Curse Hymn Practice.
thanks!
Ah...Enjoy!
Feel free to take the transcription with you so you can work on it there ;)
Needless to say it might be more fun than the film.
Hehehe.
It will be interesting to see how he reacts when he is asked who he wants to win at the next race.
He wont give a straight answer but he normally drops subtle hints
I actually am! Well, am at parents, which is out in the sticks so 20 minute trip to cinema, 20 minutes back, should be able to do a fair bit (I'm not driving, obviously).
Ye I am with Nick on this one, I suddenly become a bad driver if I put on my favourite tune in the car.
Whilst with other people I would assume its just another one of their favourite song and they don't pay that much attention to it.
Back to the new president, I would like to Max and Ari co-operating and see a better F1 for all. Max is good but Ari should be his successor.
Wow, thats dedication!
James Walker, second in the standings and six points adrift of Martinez, sat out the morning as he recuperated from a nasty injury to his throat, caused by a lodged piece of steak on Wednesday.

Hehe
I know many don't like Keith but he spoke to Ari today and got some interesting answers:
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/07/17/ari-vatanen-exclusive-interview-on-mosley-budget-caps-and-the-f1-calendar/
Blimey!!
hehe, It's actually quite fun, and it certainly beats staring out the window :)
Off now, so hope everyone has a good night!
Ouch!
That's what happens because the French don't cook their steak properly.
Ah, i like music when i am driving, but when i am doing nothing, i like to keep my mind active, so music is a little distracting
I love that it was the head of the French Federation who first suggested to Ari that he should stand. Will the FFSA back Ari over a Frenchman?
Can I exchange my brain please? I'd like one that can retain information and make decisions. Thanks. You things are bad when you spend half an hour working out what to have for dinner, so you start snacking while you decide.
Maybe if you just snack enough your brain won't need to make a decision
ALMS qualifying is live shortly, official video feed with Radio Le Mans audio:
http://almsmichelin.globalmediaservices.tv/
This is the reason I eat late :-)
Sounds good, whos racing?
Its opening up 2 video sources... very annoying
20 minute session for GTs. Short break. 20 minute session for Prototypes.
It has a link to live timing in the player. It looks like the LMP field is thin again, and they've had to bolster the GTs by including a 'Challenge' class for GT3-like cars which are way too slow, Hindy is trying to defend it.. I disagree.
Thanks Pat

OK forget the last time I said it but this time we really are only a few minutes from the hatches opening. NASA TV was an hour out. It's all their fault.
Oh my god!
http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2009/07/marmots.html
Awwwwwwwww! How cuuuuuute. :)
hehe, they look like mini cappybara's!

The shuttle crew are now aboard the ISS. That makes a total of 13 people and everyone keeps saying the number 13 on their radio messages. Don't they know what happens when NASA and 13 come together.
Maybe if they could be trained not to run in front of racing cars they would not be as endangered.
I assume this is a sub-species as we see 30 every year in Montreal.
The way government spce programs work confuses me. These people have spent years training to be astronuats and months training for their particular mission but the first thing that happens when the reach the ISS is that they get a safety briefing. Shouldn't they know this stuff already? Would it not be cheaper to teacjh them while they are hanging aroung Houston with nothing better to do?
Same with pandas though, isn't it? If they actually ate something nutritious so they didn't have to have so much and maybe had some energy, they'd do a lot better!
We need to start a new charity. Chocolate for Pandas. Of course we will need to carry out quality checks on the chocolate before we give it o the pandas.
Of course. I can make a good start on Milkybars if required.
How many will be needed to be tested until quality can be assured?
Milky bars would be good. We could cover bamboo with it and they would never know.
Well I guess you have to test a sample of every batch and there are a lot of pandas out there.
Pandas are an endagered species so you just can't be too careful
Woohoo!! I just realised I get to see practise sessons this week on Friday :D
I know it's only practise but I only ever get to see the race live so any extra live f1 = goooooood. :)
You know it's only Hungary, right? :)
great stuff, unfortunatly you wont get ant, but i think johnny sherbert could be really good...
Hungary >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> work!
I never thought a session with so few prototypes would be so exciting! David Brabham vs Simon Pagenaud trading lap records over 1sec better than before, on a 1.5 mile track. Brilliant.
The things you learn through Twitter.
Martin Haven is in a curry house near Brands Hatch with the Eurosport WTCC crew. http://img521.yfrog.com/i/3jv.jpg/
I have just opened Spotify. What should I be listening to on a Friday night?
Nice one :-)
(next week, btw..)
does it have to be podsafe?
You know, it doesn't.
I am watching lacrosse.
I am sure it wasn't like this when i learnt it at school aged 7
;)
Music, if it's Spotify.
;)
Wow, lacrosse? Did you go to a posh school?
Ah, okay. I am learning :)
Stuff that is upbeat and loud.
What kinda musical mood you feeling?
I am watching the F1.com race recap videos because I hadn't done so until now.
I did, but not when i was 7.
We just had plastic sticks in a tarmac playground. This major league stuff is slightly more violent and athletic, also played on a very strange grass field
I had to pick a song to start and went with Nickelback. Who knows where it will lead.
We had something called Unihoc which had plastic sticks on a tarmac playground.
Was that like hockey or did it have the ball carrier on the top?
Field hockey is a suprisngly fun sport
For a moment I thought you meant a ball boy and there had been a terrible accident, but no it was like hockey. I forgot lacrosse had the net thing.
I'm in a classical music mood this evening. I seem to go through these little moods of music, one night I'll only listen to really heavy stuff, the next I'll want quite poppy, softer stuff like Arcade Fire or Coldplay or whatever, then it'll just skip between genres at random. All threaded with a certain band which I do mention once or twice here and there in a subtle fashion of course.
hehe
I haven't seen this yet but it comes highly recommended. It sounds vaguely familiar so it may have appeared on dropio. It is a documentary about Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and Chris Amon so a must for the Kiwis.
http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/trio-at-the-top-2001
Is this Rhod Gilbert week? He is on 8 out of 10 cats on 4 now
Brilliant stuff!
Apparently Tiger is out in the open.
People should really be more careful...
Here's a post on Bourdais and why it seems that drivers from American series seem to fail in F1:
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/07/au-revoir-seb.html
Submission for the stupidest lyrics ever:
"I was making myself the usual cup of tea when the doorbell strangely rang."
What song's that from? Sounds like something The Streets would come up with.
heard on steve wright too. must have something plug?
Wow.
Erm, Dubstar - Not So Manic Now. I don't know it, Mr C liked it though.
Messing around with quikmaps again. Thoughts about this for Max & Bernie's Home GP?
http://quikmaps.com/show/109915
Never heard of it!
Have heard it... a long time ago!
well let me tell you, that you sir are missing out.
it is soooooooo 90's.
That is what I searched for! :)
Many of us saw the launch of the lunar reconnaisance orbiter a few weeks ago. It has now photographed five of thesix Apollo landing sites. They are not the greatest quality photos ever but interesting none the less.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/multimedia/lroimages/apollosites.html
Just listening to it now. Meh, it's OK. I think I do recognise it from somewhere, though.
I like the lyrics to one of Muse's B-sides from when they were a lot younger... the lyrics are...
*distorted screaming*
Thaaaaaat pretty much sums up the lyrics. Although I can tell that one part says "yaryaryaryaryaryaryaryaryary" and "eeeeeeeeeyaaa!" but that's about it.
Great effort! commented ;)
I did write quite a bit... sorry!
i'm sory but:
"the party was great, yeah we were really frilled. and when we get in we're gonna get killed!"
may actually trump dubstar, by many, many shades of stupidity.
All comments are appreciated, no matter how long or short :)
You can see the trail of footsteps on the Apollo 14 shot! Brilliant!
"We wanted to get the night bus but the night bus never came"?
You're so wrong!
I have a big dislike staring in the sun by U2 for this simple lyric
"There's an insect in your ear, if you scratch it won't disappear"
WHAT?!
Uh oh.
didn't it go one step further and try and squeeze the word intransigence into a song? smartarse.
I'm sure there are much worse lyrics than any of these, my memory fails me though.
u2 in general have absolutely dire lyrics I find. I dont mind them as much but my god lyrically I find them appalling.
Another nomination goes to the (brilliant) safety dance!
we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, cause your friends dont dance and if they dont dance, well theyre are no friends of mine
i love the song. it is classic. It's the freaking safety dance! But that make my head melt.
Tis a fun (and ongoing) game, feel free to share if you find any :)
I have always hated the rhyming of these lyrics
You said I must eat so many lemons,
'cause I am so bitter.
I said "I'd rather be with your friends mate,
cause they are much fitter"
What about "Interesting input, darlin', why don't you just have another beer then?"
We should just submit the whole song!
So true!
Children of the Revolution by T-rex always makes me laugh. I think it goes
I drive a rolls royce, coz' it's good for my voice
Um. yeah.
"Uh oh, we're in trouble, something's come along and it'll burst your bubble"
Actually that could have been the best lyric in the thing but I can't remember the rest :-)
Is Never gonna give you up an unmentionable? because that entire song is gloriously awful. ;)
Good post although there are parts I don't agree with. Struggling to formulate the words for a reply, will think on it.
Plus if you post it here, you would essentially be rickrolling the whole of SPC.
Howdy all,
Just got back from seeing the london community gospel choir, twas amazing. How are we all?
Having said that, I wonder if there's any such thing as being Sidepodrolled?
We need an f1 driver to sing/dance/anything to it on video... :)
it's not a rickroll if you're not pretending it's something else :)
Vettel?
Or Heidfeld. I've seen him dance. *shudders*
ahem, I believe we already have something
ahemfelipebabyahem
I'm watching "Guitar Heroes at the BBC" on BBC4, only on for 25 more mins though.
Why do I have so many random followers on Twitter? Could it be they think I' am a different Andy Taylor?
That reminds me - Duran Duran. "You're about as easy as a war"
Oops - that should have read "you're about as easy as a nuclear war"
:D
there's a bat out of hell #3?
ahhh, Peroni, lovely
Apparently the monster is loose.
Is it subtitled "back out of hell (again)"?
ahh... Becks und Vest Ving
Ah. Not flogging the dead horse then? Apparently, the sound on the opening track is from the scraping of a barrel.
:D
Oh yeah, it's Pikes Peak this weekend! :D
Whoop!
You know a team called Mach 2 Racing is taking on the "works" Ford Fiestas with a 1,150hp Ford RS200.
Do you know where this is on tv?
I have always wanted to watch it since GT1, never done it though...
Time for sleepies me thinks. See you guys tomorrow evening, as ever. Night!
Surely it's televised?
Night mr lukeh
I have a feeling that team is based near me....Essex boy racers.... ;)
Howdy

Erm...ouch?
I have told my friend in Colorado to go...
...she wont though

I love how extreme these cars are, it throws the "change one thing at once" philosophy out the window..."JUST ADD BIG WINGS!!!"
...and POWER!!!!!!!
"AND LOTS OF POWER! TOO MUCH POWER! POWERRRRRRRR!" :D
naturally :D
Could that front splitter be any bigger if it wanted to?
http://www.ppihc.com/detail.aspx?categoryid=6275&detailid=jayb1887&mediatype=1&photomode=3&returnurl=/gallery.aspx?categoryid=6275&photomode=3&tabid=10
That's something I'd normally expect to see on the front of some chav's Vauxhall Nova.
Here's the Pikes Peak Fiesta, in one piece
http://www.ppihc.com/detail.aspx?categoryid=6275&detailid=jayb1875&mediatype=1&photomode=3&returnurl=/gallery.aspx?categoryid=6275&photomode=3&tabid=10
I know people who have smaller floorspace in their bedroom's than that rear wing
I do like the pike peak cars, you'd have loved a car we were driving behind tonight, it wouldn't have looked out of place at pike peak because of the wings etc, the only difference is the fact that it was bright pink....
Im thinking of someone, but cant remember their name. Famous jazz musician, plays with a big band, plays at new year and has a usual show during the week (or used to have)
Any clues? I cant remember at all
Jools Holland?
That be Jools Holland
He also comes to the City Hall each year and the parents drag me.
Ah!!!! Thats it!! You're both stars
Drag?! He's AMAZING
I was planning a spoof Sidepodcast spin-off called Sidepodcats. It was to be like F1 Minute, but with 100% more meows. Decided against it.
Oh don't get me wrong, so do I. The big outlandish wings look good in the right context and on the right car.
Ari is not happy with Max trying to use his position to get Todt elected. I have a feeling the election process could get dirty. {Comment #573}
I thought it already had with Max doing a 540-degree turn on his election campaign so far this year...
James Walker, second in the standings and six points adrift of Martinez, sat out the morning as he recuperated from a nasty injury to his throat, caused by a lodged piece of steak on Wednesday. {Comment #605}
Poor James!
I have a sneaking suspicion this will end up on the "Sporting Injuries" section of the wiki...
These people have spent years training to be astronuats and months training for their particular mission but the first thing that happens when the reach the ISS is that they get a safety briefing. Shouldn’t they know this stuff already? {Comment #627}
Must be in case they leave their training on the launch pad with the excess luggage...
there’s a bat out of hell #3? {Comment #710}
Yes. It came out three years ago and I like most of the songs on it. "Blind as a Bat" is particularly good and I have no idea why that never got brought out as a single.
Might be a while before we see Bat out of Hell 4 though - there's generally over a decade between each of them and Meat is already in his sixties...
Apparently, the sound on the opening track is from the scraping of a barrel. {Comment #715}
I have to conclude that Meat Loaf and nu metal is not a great combination. Luckily it is only the one track done in that style.
