Here we are then, hideous Thursday, although today is quite cool as it's the anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11. I know we have quite a lot of Sidepodspace fans, so that one is for you. Here are some other things we're talking about:
- Although it is behind the paywall, there's a fantastic (and worth the subscription alone for this month) article by Jonathan Noble with rumours and speculation about who could move where and why. After months of politics, it is a breath of fresh air that silly season is beginning. Who would have thought it?
- Yesterday we discussed the Trulliometer, and today it has swung a little lower, with Trulli suggesting his team need to make a big step forward, in fact a giant leap (for mankind?) to try and close up the gap to their rivals. At least they can always console themselves by knowing they're doing better than BMW.
- Finally, I just wanted to bring the transcripts up again, as we had a great takeup of volunteers, with not one, but two transcripts completed already. If you're interested in lending a hand, you can find out more information on the wiki - thanks to everyone who's signed up already.
That's all for now. We're one step closer to the weekend, which is always a good thing, and as per usual, I will see you in the comments.
I have to visit the JobCentre today :(
But I will swim later :)
oh no, it's thursday. i wish i'd thought this through... why did i choose to have my first driving lesson on a thursday! eek...
I must start swimming again.
You are going to have a driving lesson in the morning?
not now.. no... at lunch time... but it's still on a thursday.
I didn't think it was now. So have you memorised your Highway Code and all the other stuff you need to know?
Does your driving instructor's car have KERS or a double diffuser?
and are you on a 2 or 3 stop strategy?
Changing conditions could affect this
Howdy all, just got back from seeing Harry Potter, was very good. Quick question for Mr Roy before i fall asleep...
Did Nasa launch?
Will you have to go to mcdonalds if you get a drive though penalty?
I feel sorry for this driving instructor
Yes. Christine sorted it out and it went perfectly
blowtorch?
i've not done all the theory no...my teacher knows this though :) i've very very nervous though :(
Argh, rubbish. I knew it, it gets delayed on every night i'm home and then as soon as i go out they launch. Nasa aren't in my good books right now
blatent lack of use
yeah me too :( he has to teach me to drive. each time i've got in a car to start it so far i've stalled it and not moved an inch. i'm not looking forward to it.
Every time Lou sees a Honda she will scream and if she happens to see Jenson there is going to b a crash
mum's car is a honda so i'm used to seeing them now ;) If i see Jenson anywhere near my town i would have a heart attack...
This is why Fred Flinstone was ahead of his time. Feet power all the way, all this modern enginey stuff and pedals and thingimajiggies.
ehehehehehe!! look what i'v just found on youtube!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtW9wHF4-pE
Pah, just go on the offensive. Get in the car, ask him what fuel weight you have, and which compound tyres are on today.
Just look at all the bad drivers you have ever seen and remember that all of them passed at one point. If they can do it so can you. Besides you have driven a kart. A car is easy after that. It is only one extra pedal to deal with and you don't need to be fast.
i don't want him to think i'm insane.. he will find that out with time i'd imagine.
Hi!
Everybody stalls. That is totally unimportant.
i haven't driven a Kart.
OOPS
:D
Playstation?
i'm erm... rubbish on everything that isn't mario kart... should be fun! :)
Driving is a lot like mario kart, just don't drive into the giant bombs, the stuff thats on fire, and control as well as possible when a fellow driver causes an earthquake
Honestly, just the fact you are thinking about it makes you better than 50% of the drivers out there.
:P:P
Just remember that avoding crashing is the only important thing and you will be fine.
Everthing else is just plain optional
okay.. plus i suppose my instructor has the second set of pedals just in case... it's just a terrifying thought....
trust me....they will use them
Everything? Sounds like a game: Things that are optional while driving.
Driving.
sounds good to me! :)
That creeps me out. I think I would punch someone using the second set of pedals.
You're going to sit down in the car and say "You do the driving, I'll do the looking smart in the car, and we'll settle it with that, yep?" aren't you? ;)
live commenting. although should probably be classed as 'not advisable'.
Checking everyone on the sidewalk in case they are Jenson?
really? i think it will be nice knowing it's not all down to me, and someone else in the car can take control if i'm mucking everything up... specially as it will be my first time driving a car.. like ever...
you know me too well ;)
I'm sure they'll be mega considerate to you , they know it's your first time and whatnot. Just don't tell them your driving experience is a Nintendo game... :)
I think we need to see Jake in a reasonably priced car now that he has had lessons from Jenson and Lewis
Jenson wouldn't come to my town... it's not the nicest of places.
He was stalking you at Goodwood so y'never know... :P
But tweeting should be OK
i agree. i'd possibly like to see Jenson as a passenger, just for the hilarious comments :D
Ask about left foot breaking... that's a very impressive question for a first lesson
and hand brake turns
isn't left foot breaking meant to be really hard to do/ not advisable? i'll stick with learning how to do basic things like moving to start with i think ;)
this is why kids should start driving much earlier.
"...and on my off days, I tend to visit maranello to test cars and dress up in a white racesuit for a popular BBC television program"
You need left foot braking to be a rally driver.
hehehe.... I just wonder what the instructors reaction would be...
but.... i don't want to be a rally driver, unless it will make my life easier and i can take short cut across the fields etc?
Suppose you can go straight ahead over roundabouts...
Just wait until Ari heads the FIA......
my friend actually did that in her first lesson the other week...
I'm not sure whether to be impressed out not!
I THINK someone should say that it might not be correct though...
It makes your life a lot easier. Imagine when you drive yourself to Goofwood for the first time and you have to deal with the grass car parks. A little bit of left foot braking will make your life so much easier and hand brake turns make parking and sliding through gates easier.
Oh brother. *please* don't be one of those girls.
Those mini painted one double as jumps!
Im sure its in the highway code....*
* Its not dont listen to me!
When the instructor says that he wants you to go straight ahead at the roundabout that is not what he means
Hmm. I use them a kerbs, and try to get onto two wheels.
ahaha i'm sure if i pass by the next goodwood and i find myself driving all that way, parking and the grass fields will be the least of my worries ;)
hhahaha :)
A lot of people get into trouble the first time they drive on grass because there is no grip and no traction.
Depends what you mean by "trouble". ;-)
i can practice driving on grass, that's no problem, i'll just practice on our field :)
You have your own rally stage?
:P
That's how I learnt a lot. There was a forest between home and Uni.....!
ahaha :D i wish :) it's more of an overgrown 3 acre field that backs onto our garden...
*isn't here*
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/aside7
hope it's alright.
Hi Rachel.
Wow, there is like a secret army of people doing sidepodchores!
rachel, you are an angel. thanksyou,
Do you know if there are people who read the transcripts on a regular basis? I must admit I have never thought of looking at one in all the time I have been here.
Just our legal people.
I still haven't finished mine, my excuse? they talk too much.
yup. think there's something like 100 subscribers to the transcript feed:
http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast/transcripts
at least, we know people are downloading the files. no idea if they actually read them mind you.
:P
there is no rush. if you've done 10% of one that 10% more than would otherwise have happened ;)
Hehe well I'm at 35 minutes so only 14 left I think, trouble is you talk about fuel for the last bit and that goes over my head
That is incredible. I am amazed at that
don't worry, i did 1/2 today, and i'm hoping i'll get the other 1/2 done tomorrow. i'm finding it great fun to do though.
Lou,
If you a reading this don't put fuel over your head on your driving lesson.
:D :D
I'll probably join in transcribing over the summer, used to do plenty of it for english language a2.
I don't mind doing recent shows so much because I listened and watched live so I know whats said, older shows I'd be clueless on.
i've no idea what people do with them, because they never tell us. mind you, we never ask either.
One day you and mrs c will sit down in the cinema ready to watch a film when the trailers come on, and you see..
"IN 2008... TWO HOSTS HAD ONE GOAL. TO CREATE A PODCAST."
2008? It should be earlier than that. I'm tried. :(
*tired. I shush now...
i don't read them on a regular basis but if there is something i want to find out about, whether it happened in a race or a piece of news i often check the transcripts for info. Sometimes it's easier than trying to find it on autosport or f1.com or somewhere.
in 2006 two people decided they should try and spend a bit more time together/
Maybe we should ask
good plan! shall do this sunday.
I dont envy tilke...
After the well received first circuit comes the difficult 2nd circuit.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ring2-jpg
You getting to be as bad as Tilke with all these circuits ;)
Did you expect it to get this big? :D
HA!
okay bed time for me, night all! x
bye lou.
Night... Good luck tomorrow!
I made a note in my show list
night! :)
best of luck!
The first one just came to me, the second one required some work
Good night Lou. Remember very few people have huge crashes in their first driving lesson so you will probably be OK.
you have a list? i don't even have a list... at least not for shows anyhow.
Have fun Lou
You have lists too?
Woo, sent a load of my goodwood Brawn stuff to the fan gallery for Brawn Gp. :D
Make a note that I need to remind Mr C of something, just so long as I can remember.
I have a few things. I got fed up typing out the reminder about titles and podcast guesses every show so I copied it into a Word doc and just paste it now. Then a few weeks ago you made a comment about not plugging the phone number and live shows so I made a not to check that it is done or remind you. There are a few other things but spread out it only amounts to about half a page.
I still have the writing competion for Joe on there though.
You don't?
damnit!
i hate my brain. it's faulty.
have you tried turning it off and on again?
everynight
Hehe :D
Defragment?
might have to ring up customer support and attempt to get a response within 5 phonecalls then I guess to get that ol' noggin of yours working.
:D
tricky...
Now you know why I keep a list
I think that's called a holiday.
I'm off to bed to go play the ever classic Secret of Monkey Island then get some sleepies. Night chaps.
night lukeh.
Night Lukeh
night!
Dont go fighting like a dairy farmer now
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
(couldn't help myself...)
so not a good time to mention that after my first driving lesson i came home and cried and said "Ill never be able to do this!" my instructor was my impatient dad though, i think this was key to the problem. On the other hand i passed both practical tests first time and its now 8 years later and i cant believe i found it hard. Everybody gets there in the end! Go Lou!
Hi Amy.
go to bed.
booo
You have a corner named after you. http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodring2-jpg
Apparently there was a meeting at renault, and Piquet will be in the car in Hungary, although beyond that is unclear.
With that... Night all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBYd9UVBGTs
Blah-blah-blah-rrichello the single.
I likey! :D
The big picture does Apollo 11:
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/07/remembering_apollo_11.html
Steven will be happy :)
Some more morning viewing:
http://www.formula1.com/video/
Nurburgring onboard is up - and it's with Rubens Barrichello!
So am I. Trying to watch 'From the Earth to the Moon' to co-incide with the lunar landing...
Anyone listen to the Force India podcast from the German GP?
Ian Phillips was in fine form... doesn't sound like he's keen to rejoin FOTA as he criticised some of the changes they proposed to make for qualifying.
But he did say he was always a fan of Kovalainen, so Amy should be happy!
and those pictures are not bad at all ...
missed the FOTA part
got that part, I also like the point about giving Fisi wake up call early on Saturdays to make sure is awake for quali, not only for race :-)
Not bad at all!
Did everyone hear the Raikkonen to rally drive in 2010 story. Italian media reported it yesterday. a "friend" has said he doesn't anymore about F1, just rally. Morning all :)
I had this great idea but am too busy/lazy to do it. footage of armstrong's walk on the moon with mark webber's victory scream as he does so. visualise it in your minds, or feel free to take the idea and become a youtube sensation - but you've got 48 hours because timing is crucial :)
Yup, we discussed it a few days ago.
i don't think non-F1 fans would appreciate it, though. ;)
figures. i'm not here a lot this week.
their loss... :)
I like that theres a couple of pictures of Kelsey Grammer in there haha.
I thought it was Rubens in X-Men III?
Rubens is the voice of Sideshow Bob.
How's Thursday working out for everyone so far?
Alright so far... I fear this may be a trap.
Not enough baby pandas, I'm afraid ;(
Aww, am working on it :)
I put my dinner in the oven and forgot about it.
Lego Darth Vader on my monitor is watching you, Alex!
What was it?
Burnt?
:)
baked potatoes
slightly over cooked
It's OK though, I forgot about it because I got distracted by Heikki interviews. He talks about Hakkinen + Kimi at McLaren and I may have died.
mixed feelings - not good, had KFC for lunch, good - coffee on my desk smells great
Also, slept in a bed for the first time in a week (I have slept on my couch to get rid of my cold) and managed to oversleep my alarm by half an hour. I had to use the speed and efficiency of an F1 pitstop to shower and get ready in 5 minutes!
Oooh, am hoping you didn't have 22 men gathered around in overalls to help.
No, but it could have helped!
Really? Are you sure? ;)
In the days of the empire, royalty and those in power used to have people dress them...
Doesn't matter, I made my train allright in the end!
I don't know about you, but I always found that awkward. ;) Besides, it's a lot easier to get into your clothes now than it used to be. ;)
Good for you. :D
and Le Seb is officially gone ... http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76988
Boo.
Au revoir, funny man :(
that is the first dropped driver since Scott Speed ...
What should I do with my stats now - If I do any aggregate stats over a whole season, do I combine Le Seb and not Seb to form like Voltron and give a whole season of data? Or should I just keep them seperate?
... if we don't count Alex Wurz who dropped himself
Also Toro Rosso...
Neighbours is really dragging out this death thing. Come on soap tragedy, brighten my Thursday!
Who kicked the bucket?
Keep them seperate.
Le Seb to do Peugeot and Indycars from now on? Sounds reasonable ... and brilliant if Paul Tracy returns!
the one who just had a baby, just to really make it tragical!
Typical!
I think Neighbours was responsible for my favorite soap death but it might have been Home and Away (with you each day). One of the characters died when a cassette tape got lose in the car and slid underneath the break pedal and then the car drove into a lake.
Actually now I think about it was Home and Away (with you each day) because I think it was Alf's wife who then came back later to haunt him or wasn't dead but was just in a coma.
Anyway I liked it because I felt it packed in an important life lesson - always put your tapes back in their boxes.
that drop was a bit more ugly though :-)
yeah that was Ailsa, when she woke up she started harrasing him because she'd heard him talk about removing her life support while she was in a coma and interpreted that as he didn't love her. Then a few years later she had a heart attack. Then he got a brain tumour and saw her everywhere. I have been watching Home and Away for 15 years, this scares me.
Ah yes Alisa. That was the one. Ace!
Sidepodpeeps know everything.
Do you want a sandwich?
A friend of a friend made this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEwM0Fnkg4A
They really do :)
Morning all. I just read that Ferrari tested a 2010 nosecone on friday practice at the Nurburg... anyone got a picture of it ?
Wow... just wow!
I thought you fell out with Le Seb?\
Keep them separate.
they were running with something that looked very much like carbon copy of 2009 Red Bull nose :-)
People keep saying that. It doesn't mean I wish he would go.
Duck billed platipus?!
You may have given that impression at the time, I think... Or was it a bit too GMM to assume that;)
I gave the impression I wanted to see him out of a job? I doubt it.
And if I did, you must know by now that I am almost as fickle as Mr C.
I don't mean that, I just assumed at the time you weren't bothered if he was i F1 or not...
To be honest, he's not gonna be signing on the dole really is he?
No, because he's a Peugeot driver and I have a hunch he'll do Indycars or ALMS...
There are only a few people I wish weren't in F1, other than that I don't mind anyone having a go.
Am a bit annoyed at Toro Rosso because I think they already knew it wasn't going to work out when they re-signed him.
Dude - right before lunch I've got "BREAD, FILLING, BREAD" stuck in my head! :D
:D
Fair enough. The drivers I normally dislike are the ones that are too old and are hanging on, when a fresh new guy could be there and driving faster.
I wanted Le Seb to get the drive this year. It's a shame it didn't work out, but I'm not very sad because I know that these days a driver does not have to be in F1 to have a succesful and lucrative career. I watch a few different series so I know I'll see him very soon...
I want a sandwich now, but I need to find a present for my dad's birthday first I just wish I knew what to get him
A present for your Dad is not a sandwich!
Haha no it isn't going to be, I just have no idea what to get him.
So why did they then?!!
To be honest, I won't miss him that much. Near enough every weekend he would complain about the car, how it didn't suit him, BUT! With the dawning of slick tyres this season he would find his form... er, didn't work out really did it?
I can only imagine it was money. They weren't shy about saying Taku didn't have the funds.
Because he's French, and they only recently managed to lobby the government in France to allow Red Bull on sale there. It was exactly the same logic applied to Sato and Japan.
He's had the worst run of luck too so it's a bit unfair on him ... a shame he never clicked in F1 but there are a lot of great drivers who failed at F1.
Just shows how poor Champcars must have been if he dominated there and did poorly in F1 though...
But I know what I want
Doctor Who is also not a Sandwich!
This.is.BRILLIANT. :D
Haha maybe not but I do want them :P
I refuse to believe Toro Rosso's decision to keep Bourdais on was anything to do with wanting this shift cans in France. Bourdais, whose popularity probably rivals that of Christian Albers on a good day.
Despite flashes of promise last season, before being crippled by bad luck in Monza and Spa, he was overshadowed by Vettel. This year, on what he claimed would showcase his talents, he should be taking the lead from Buemi. But it hasn't happened. He's got no excuses really.
No doubt he'll do well in Le Mans or other tin-top racing series though.
So why the heck would a Red Bull team consider Sato ahead of a junior driver from the program? They are short of cash, you know that!
Joe Saward gives a very good analysis on Le Seb's career to date
I must admit, I haven't watched any Champ Cars for a very long time so I don't know what the truth is, but Joe's analysis is interesting to say the least...
I take it you mean why would they consider Alguersuari over Sato?
No, I meant why would Toro Rosso consider between Sato and Bourdais when they have a pool of young driver talent within their ranks?
ahh, us subscribers to gp+ read that a long time ago :)
I just trapped my thumb in a drawer. It doesn't hurt but it's gone all hot. Weird.
you cannot be trusted to go to work now?
Morning all!
If I say no does that mean I can stay home?
:)
Well they did, sort of. Buemi came up from GP2 remember? And he was the one with most experience at that point.
The Red Bull Driver Programme isn't a vast list of drivers to choose from. There were nine in it last year who are in the lower echelons of racing and with the years of experience from the likes of Sato or the supposedly going to get better Bourdais to choose from, it's a bit of a no-brainer, despite money being involved.
Toro Rosso have nothing to lose bringing Alguersuari in for the rest of the season. Let him gain confidence behind the wheel of an F1 car and see what he can do next season.
With no testing, it is more valuable for them to train up Not Seb than to watch Bordy trail around the back.
Well at least we got ourselevs a midseason change!
any truth in the suggestion that loeb might get some seat time too?
OK, quick straw poll for all the working folk out there:
Do you innovate at work (whether by improving process tools or developing tools)? If so, why and how often? If not, why not?
Please do answer, if you can. I am in need of some honest opinions.
*improving existing processes or developing tools
i suspect there could be something in that rumor. we shall see at season's end.
yes. every day. why? because every change involves some form of innovation, otherwise there would be no point in making changes.
no. because I am a drone.
what about craft tuesday? (i forget the official title #sorryamy).
It's a strange one. When he drove the RB4 last season in testing he took the team by surprise by instantly being on the pace and could have been even better if he braked a fraction later going into the corners.
I don't think he'll make it into F1, but, I wouldn't like to rule it out entirely. The sport needs someone like Loeb in it so personally I'd enjoy it if they'd give him a go, but at 35 he's no spring chicken.
ooh yes. I didn't do any this week though, and it definitely doesn't help me get my job done :D
Interesting contrast in answers there. Thanks, Mr C and Amy. :)
I could but I don't because I am too busy commenting.
:D
But on a serious note, we hear a lot of people here at work saying they want to innovate but they can't because they still have their actual work to finish.
I do not have this problem. There are two of us who share the work, so if one is doing something, the other can cover.
Fair enough! Have to subscribe to that, all the good car mags are a month behind here!
Valid points. Blood him in with an expectation that he kick butt next year...
It's the nature of my job and my industry, so yeah, innovate or die. We even have an innovation dept. here ;)
Greetings sled gods...
Hows everyone's super -thursday going ?
howdy all
hehehe, i was just thinking about cool runnings.
mine is going super :) woop woop.
et toi?
Sanka... ya dead?
yea mon
Just spent 40 mins doing a ten minute car journey... what a magical day thursday is!
Wow... this is amazing!
I really need to start compiling evidence.
Never go on a picnic with Ultravox!
Bwahahaha. Brilliant.
Of the 10 emails in my inbox this morning... 7 of them are telling me the moon landings are a fraud.
Gotta love politics graduates... Trust nothing, Debate everything!
GRRRR!
I fear i am being sucked in... some people have done quite a lot of work on this.
Do they at least say good morning?
Can you ask them to send emails on things that actually didn't happen, like Ralf Schumacher's F1 career?
For anyone wanting to see what Max the dog (Joe's Max from his post) looks like, theres now a picture on that post on Joes blog
One of them actualy ended with.
Sorry i forgot about your birthday. But you don't come to Birmingham enough to bother with a greeting. See you at the Ashes!
What a lovely person
I suspect they may lose a lot of carbon fibre...
Phil plait will set you straight: http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/apollohoax.html
Thankyou... you have set my mind straight
I don't think i will be responding. These debates get very silly.....
The correct response is the action of your palm slamming into your face in disbelief.
not worth questioning at all? even if the end result is your agreeing that it did happen, surely it's worth considering?
It must make the correct noise otherwise you have to do it again
I remember when that documentary was on TV here, I was 15 and it was speech week in English class. I sat through four 'we didn't go to the moon, I know this because TV told me so' speeches. The horror.
Haha, you dont know these people!
I have to pick my battles! There are far too many 'facts' on either side of this argument.
Something like 'does the government have the moral right to tax us' Is far more fun :P
Of course it's worth questioning - but unfortunately whose who believe it was a hoax tend to base their arguments on phenomena they do not understand but are easily explained.
Yes.
I win
The best way to argument with a moon landing conspiracist is 'you should watch Futurama, they have a theme park on the moon and everything'.
I think they just have minds which say
'the government said this happened'
'the government institutionaly lies to the people'
'this did not happen'
That doco was in extreme bad taste ... even suggesting the Apollo 1 fire happened so that NASA could kill off the astronauts who were going to blow the whistle on the hoax...
Constant change is what's on the menu here. We have more than 10 check-ins to our live environments a day. Rapid application development but no scrums.
Innovation is change IMO
Quick!!! Get the Tin Foil Hats out!
hehe :D
I likes this: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/twitterbirds-jpeg
hehehehe
Ahahaha!
I likes it too :)
So true...
Litteral Re-Tweeting :) Love it :)
That's the problem I'm facing. For an IT company, our folks sure don't innovate as much as you'd hope...
apparently the last Crimean war veteran to have been nursed by Florence Nightingale died aged 104 in 1934.
I am not sure if this is important, but the cricket commentators thought people should know
legard, eat your heart out
:)
Do you listen to 'Look Away Now'? it's a very funny BBC Radio Comedy show on sports and they are doing a segment about cricket commentators that is VERY funny!
I actualy *gasp* warmed to him in the last race. He started taking Brundles silly opinions on and was the only one who wasn't wearing their 'Mark Webber fan club badge'
you like him for being wrong and a big meanie?
I think it was DC taking role of 'talking nonsense like an idiot' during the race that left Legard a level above his usual standard
Gah, DC. Grrr. I'd forgotten.
oopsy...
*is not here*
does he even know who mark webber is? he only tends to talk about a few drivers...
Yeah there was also some ridiculous conversation about refuling where Brundle just stopped making any sense.
was he pro-refuelling? if so, he's right.
I think by the end of the season i will be so used to him i might be disapointed if he left.
...Now thats a scary thought¬!
Nooo, Brundle was. Remember? I HAD to switch over at that point before my brain exploded.
Brundle was yeah, it was a "shut up Legard your wrong" moment from Brundle
that's who i'm talking about?
you'd be disapointed if he left? even if he was replaced by someone who was much better?
I like it when Johnathon legard goes 'woomph' at an event in a replay or when cars are close to each other. It always makes me laugh. I even predicted he'd say it on Sunday at one point to my brother, and he did!
Like James a.... no I can't finish that.
Oh, sorry, I was still thinking about Legard.
Thats a habit we indend to break ;)
Yes.
Then legard said... what about people who dont bother overtaking because they can do it though their pit stop strategy?
Then Martin 'grumpy old man' Brundle said something like 'tell them to go do some gardening on a sunday afternoon'
Legard... Laughs and goes riiiiight.....
fair enough. it's complicated debate to have the middle of a race though.
Wow! I missed that! Commentary box friction!
poor you :(
;)
Who's better? Croft.... but he wont get the job.
The bloke that does Touring cars is worse, and i don't really know any others... which probably means they haven't been worth remembering
Ant is better too... there could be some unknown out there who may be better and get the job :P
I say we get someone off here to apply.
I would do it...
I'm commentating on a 2cv race? ;)
There could be a Jake out there for commentating. Less walking, more talking.
how many applications did the bbc have for that job? was it 27 or more?
there must be someone better, unless you're suggesting the uk is devoid of talented commentators.
Jake was always going to be a star though, you could see it when he did the NFL. It was just a matter of which sport the BBC put him on.
exactly! :) Jake wasn't exactly known for his awesome sports presenting skills before this, now i wouldn't want anyone else to present f1 coverage :)
Crofty, Ben Edwards & John Watson, Martin Haven, Toby Moody, John Hindhaugh, heck even Charlie Cox!
Hindy would never do it, he hates F1
Jake's good at what he does because he's talented and he really has a passion for the sport...
He doesn't actually. He just dislikes certain parts of it.
I don't think I'd want him to. I like him being the 24 hour man.
I guess, i wouldnt want him to do it anyway, LMS and John Hindhaugh go together like 2 things that go together
Who thought CBBC could train someone to be so good ;)
Actually come to think of it, so do I - his Le Mans commentary was really good!
I think CBBC would be excellent training when your two co-hosts spend the whole programme bickering like children at each other!
Good point! :D
eeekkk!!! time for driving lesson!!! eeekkkk
Good luck!!! Just relax and i'm sure you'll be fine :)
Good luck.
Dont forget to put on your seatbelt :P
WOOP! You go girl!
I dont know if this helps... But Plato's advice was if this happens 'get on the gas'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPCGnkApnDU
have fun!
If you listen to the interview...i think he had other reasons for wanting to save that car....
my first lesson went a litle like "oh my god I'm going so fast" "you're going 15km/h..."
I remember on my first lesson, my instructor drove us to this industrial estate, we stopped on the side of the road and I had no idea about anything at all then he turned and said 'OK now we'll swap seats and you'll drive' to my response of 'WHAT?!!!'
Ahh... uneducated times.
the first time I stopped at a stop sign I stalled, and my dad screamed at me "why didn't you put the clutch in"
Um...because you never told me I had to? I didn't know that. I thought the clutch was just for changing gears. No wonder I cried.
I just walked out my flat and the guy gave me the keys.
Me: Errrrr ummm Errrr?
Him:This is a driing lesson?
Me:Okay....
Someone I know was learning to drive with her dad and me in the back of the car, but he was so on edge and screamed at her not to hit the kerb when she was over a metre away from it ... I think she decided not to bother learning for a while...
Yay for Techno Thursdays!
I was shocked to learn my dad taught my mum to drive just after they started dating yet she still married him.
My mate's Dad used to go Rally Driving - with his wife as a co-driver!
OMG Tiesto's club life is awesome - he's got a remix of Blue Monday on there!
I meant Mum and Dad there sorry!
yay! Muse on the BBC's golf coverage!
That sounds like a weird combo!
Yeah... was one of their earliest songs so it's quite a dark song.. bizarre.
The Open makes for nice background noise when working on things. Strangely relaxing.
Hahahahaha!
Can you just imagine it?
"Slow down dear, you're driving too fast"
"Keep quiet and read the map dear"
"I am dear - it says hairpin over crest!"
Jean Todt will indeed be standing for FIA presidency
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76998
He's so small though I'm unsure if we'll know if he's actually standing or not. perhaps he should have said he will be sitting for presidency, that clears things up a bit...
I'm still waiting for your photoshop of Jean Todt as a frog prince!
ooooooooooh.
This caught my eye:
Whoa - I thought he was supporting Vatanen...
Webahhh on the cricket
Web; Germany worse than silverstone for brawn
Would an F1 governed by this man be even worth watching? I fear he would be worse than Mosley.
James Allen says it best on his blog:
Web: Unrealistic to think we will keep getting 1-2's
JB not a cricket fan
Mike Atherton not a F1 fan
The head of the UK's MSA and the NZ equivelent are supporting todt.
How odt
I am ashamed to be a Kiwi at this point then:(
Did they oppose Max during spankgate? If not, there's nothing to be surprised about.
And it's a political guy saying that.
Assuming Nick Craw isn't a double agent, who's supporting Ari, then?
Not more politics :(
After such a good race as well!
join the club :(
Don't worry, Gavin. Things should at least quiet down a bit during the campaign period. Then again, I could be wrong.
What happened to the thing yesterday?
What thing?
Journeyer said it was another massive day in F1.
Oh the Concorde Agreement. It's close, apparently.
Has it dipped its nose then :P
Dont worry its not that important anymore, if todt does win, GP1 will probably breakaway.
i'm back!! :D
If you need me I'll be in my happy place
And??
that was quick! I take it from the :D you aren't crying right now?
How did you do?
driving is soooo much fun! :) i didn't crash or anything... :)
w00t!!!
Woohoo!
Told you it'd be alright once you were comfortable with it ;)
No need - my colleague just bought the office kimi's favourite ice creams to celebrate moving flat!
twas only an hour lesson to start with, twas really fun if a bit terrifying. My instructor is so lovely and i wasn't as bad as i thought i'd be.
a good first lesson!
Hehe... Well done!
Did you find out anything about the left foot breaking?
i did freak out a little when i realised i was going 30mph though.. but i didn't drive over any of the round abouts so i'm happy :)
always a good start :P
I don't get why the UK went metric but you still use miles. *Googles to find out how much that is in km/h*
Ah. 50. Stupid memory should have retained that calculation by now, I know I've worked it out countless times.
he asked if i was a fan of cars or motorsport, and when i told him i liked f1 he said we wouldn't be doing any left foot braking or hand brake turns until at least the 4th lesson :P lol
Hah, sounds like an awesome instructor. Mine just shouted at me every time ;)
Awesome! :D
JA said:
Concorde Agreement close, but not today
You got a great instructor! Good on you. :)
Just posted a new blog entry about the summer because it's so unsummery outside!
he is really really calm :) i'm having a 2 hour lesson next week which should be great fun :D
Woo! How are the nerves now you've got going?
Nice and summery here :P
i want to have another lesson :) it was so fun!! :) i get nervous when i come up to a junction or round about, other than that i just smile and try and remember everything :)
It's been rubbish here all week! It seems to be going showers-clouds-shower-clouds-SUN-showers-cloud etc
Same here Lukeh, but then I live just over the water from you ;)
Oooh I feel like Kimi Raikkonen now!
Magnum?
I had one for lunch too ;)
Yeah we got free ice creams from a colleague...
I am watching Outragous Fortune which is my mostest favouriteist show in the world. I like that the characters often refer to their days at "Chris Amon Primary School" heheh
A friend of mine went to Uni with Chris Amon's son apparently...
Oh Appolo 11 just launched
Or maybe it didn't ;)
I might send my kids to Bruce McLaren Intermediate. Although, I don't want to live in Auckland, ever.
and i thought i was the only one posting old articles ;) what are you talking about Nick?
Hear hear!
http://wechoosethemoon.org/
I have atwitter feed for it delayed by 40 years.
They are live tweeting the launch as it happened 40 years ago.
I may have some news speculating that mansell may more to indycars for next season to share later though :P
Today I had a conversation in a lift with someone I'd never met before about whether Webber sould grow a Mansell mo. Weirdest convo of the day by a long shot.
F1 doesn;t need more politics, it needs more mustaches
talk to FOTA. could be there new slogan :)
Dr Mario could head the initative and everything from FOTA
Out of curiosity, how does a conversation like that start?
...and i hope you agreed he should! :D
Soooo cool!!!
When I got on there was two guys in there, one I used to work with and we used to talk F1 but I hadn't seen him in a while, so we were talking about Webber's win and I mentioned that people had said he could be like Mansell and win lots now that he has won once. Then random guy who was standing in the corner goes HE SHOULD GROW A MUSTACHE rather loudly and unexpectedly. I work on level 1 and I went right up to level 15 where they were getting off just to continue the F1 talk :D
Someone needs to start a webb-site
webbneedsatache.com.au
if you work on Level 1 then why did you get in a lift?
Because the bottom of buildlings in NZ + Aus is known as Ground. My building also has Upper Ground for some weird reason.
ah, fairynuff
sloping neighbourhood? with entry and front and back?
That's still only two floors!
theres no stairs! Only the fire exit and you can't go in it, only out it.
No one tell Mr C about this pls: http://thenextweb.com/2009/07/16/absolut-vodka-releases-mouthwateringly-awesome-iphone-app/
I think they remodelled the two-storey entrance foyer at some stage to create more office space. At least this building has a basement, at the hospital they called it Lower Ground. It was so a basement, for 8 hours a day I was in a rom with no windows.
You're Joking!
I wish there was stairs because they're the worst lifts in the world. I could get to my floor and back 20 times if there was stairs in the time it takes for the lift to arrive.
so if there's a fire, does everyone take the lift?
I guess if you are scared of lifts you're not invited in?
Unless you worked on the ground floor which holds Human Resources + the cafe, you'd be pretty stuck.
Ah, the cafe. What more do you need?
Typical of HR to get the best part of the office!
you can get down the fire stairs. The frequent fire drills make me glad I don't work on level 15 :P
The executive salary to be able to afford their food :( It's ridiculously overpriced.
Booo.
so that means you can get into the stairs right? so you can take the stairs down levels, just not up?
each floor has a door that you can open from both sides, so you can go up and down the stairs between work-levels, but the door at ground level only opens from the inside, apparently its a security thing, but we've been robbed via the fire stairs twice in the year I've worked there :D
Ferrari and mclaren getting quick is good news for brawn.
They can get the jump on RBR BGP with kers at the start. the red bulls struggle to overtake, especially Vettel, where as the brawns seem to be better at it.
oh okay. makes sense
probably from people telling the internet world about how their building is structured ;)
eheheh. It was actually the workmen who were renovating the building :D
old theory - you can walk in anywhere with a toolbox and overalls and a ladder and go where you please.
Okay I won't tell Mr C about that...
but let's keep repeating it until he arrives;)
Good. We won't keep bringing it up or anything :)
Have you downloaded it yet?
I can't think of another app that says "Giggles" to me as much as that one does.
I have downloaded it... I will try to not mention it to Mr C while I use it...
:)
Ahh it's recommended that I have a Caribbean Sensation... I wonder if it's okay to mention the Caribbean Sensation to Mr C?
That sounds very funny out of context...
"GPS and your personal drink choices combine to offer users a new “live badge” that can be embedded in your blog like a widget and that reflects your most recent order history etc."
oh yesh!
Noooooo. Epic fail, guys. He found out.
This does not sound like a good idea!
Mr Health insurance: I see from your blog you are average 20 cocktails a week...
:)
i love the realtime updates of what people are drinking right now in the world.
ooops!
This is need to know information.
i feel the need to contribute.
It will never know about my orange juice!
oh no, it knows now!!
It would be wasted on me, I'm going to a bar on Saturday for the first time in months and I already know what I'm going to drink because I always get the same thing.
Is it really really good?
Have you tried anything else? :P
i can recommend some?
I have taken a sudden liking to Mojitos lately... a very nice summer drink... :)
I like mojitos, but only cos of James Bond.
I discovered them when i was 18.
They are now reserved for drinking when i am very verry drunk...
Which is a bit self perpetuating!
James Bond Drinks them?
I thought he was a complicated weak martini man?
more really really boring. I always get vodka and cranberry juice. Sometimes I'll spice it up by having a bay breeze ;) I also like passionfruit vodka with apple juice but most bars don't seem to have passionfruit vodka.
I have tried many many drinks in my time but I'm not a huge fan of the taste of alcohol full stop. I don't like wine, an I don't like 99% of spirits. Oddly enough in my uni days I was quite a tequila fan but because of that now I can't look at the stuff.
Good Idea ... gives me a target to aim for!
Marianne's friend is coming over for dinner tonight and it always involves copious amounts of alcohol!
He drunk one in Die Another Day.
Drunk one? Drank one... drinked one. Whatever.
Ah I remember now. God that was a cheesy Bond movie!
Im pretty much the same, i hate whisky and gin... although i have one exception
My favourite: Jagermeister and coke ...yum
Now i just seem to alternate between beer and cider, occasionaly red wine.
After 5 or 6 beers it all goes out the window. Vodbulls, alcopops...
Worst movie ever but I LOVE it.
JaegerBulls FTW!
Good theme tune by madge
Kemble update - Expecting F1 action here tomorrow - not sure who - so watch this space..
Cheers,
Rob Sinfield.
Actually come to think of it, that's what I think of the movie as well!
Try Jager and coke.. It will blow you mind
I do enjoy any fruity cocktail that doesn't taste of alcohol at all. My favourite bar back home did a lovely peach and passionfruit margarita but at $13 each you really can't have too many.
Yessir!
Sound like my entire DVD collection. I have made all of my friends watchthis
Hehe.. selling alcohol seems easy...
Maybe i should make a career of it :P
Oh god.. I saw the pic and though 80's movie...
then 2003. *facepalm*
I thought wikipedia was supposed to be objective?
"It is considered to be one of the worst films ever made."
Hehehe.
one for christine's list?
It is terrible. It is amazing. All at the same time. The commentary on the DVD is hilarious because you can tell everybody involved with the film wishes it was never made. Especially Kelly Clarkson.
My friend went to the USA and out of everything he could have bought me there, this was all I wanted.
Good lord.
146 Reasons Why From Justin To Kelly Sucked made me want to see it even more.
These friends... Are they still friends? :P
Oh yes. Most of my friends thankfully are of the bad-movie-backstreet-boy-loving variety. I have wisely kept this movie from those few friends I know would disown me.
Are you Censoring Similies? :P ;) :D
yes. henceforth only miserable people may comment.
Sounds like a good time to say hello then
Hello.
hehe, i thought maybe it was a Thursday thing!
What about #F1HappyPlace?
I like #F1UnhappyPlace now.
I see Max is still there for a little while yet then, whens the elections, the end of the year, lots of months away.
How dare the BBC not include last years race in their classic Hungary selection. Do they not recall that it was the greatest race of the year? ;)
#sorryamy?
It was certianly better than some previous races there.
Yeah that massa blowout was quite something.
Don't remember anything else from it.
;)
oooo is 2006 on there!!??
Indeed, how inconsiderate.
Ommmmm. Bit of swearing on the golf there on BBC2.
But you wouldn't get to watch it anyway?
but of course!
I would, and Timo got second, hence, I'm with Amy here.
Ted has another blog entry on BBCF1 website under the mole's section if you guys havent seen it
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/f1mole/2009/07/ted-kravitz-the-german-gp-from.html
aha I know, plus if I really wanted to I have the highlights DVD and the whole race on my hard drive. But it's the principle
Ahh, I was so gutted after that race. #sorryamy
that dastardly Heikki once agai not getting out of the way for Timo? ;)
wohoo!! :) it's not like i've not seen it thousands of times though..
As was I.
first corner awesomeness?
Yes.
I think he has a grudge against him, boo Heikki.
yeah me too :( poor massa
I have a five minute montage from that race set to INXS wot I taped off TV...
Oh yeah!
I hear some guy won the race too.
Who wasn't?
Even I laughed at that one. Lewis was really asking for that!
Amy?
someone may have very kindly sent me a copy of the full race to try and cheer me up when honda withdrew :D eheehe
There was two Finns on the podium. TWO
You have a point Mrs C.
That happened in Malaysia and Italy that year that as well :)
Two is the most there can be. Unless Mika comes back. Which would be, um, AWESOME. Because of course in this fantasy he is still good.
In Italy? I know Heikki finished 2nd; but was it Kimi who finished 3rd?
Opps just Malaysia, sorry amy :D
Well, I guess Mika Salo was pretty good in 99. ;)
Wasn't it Kubica? I recall the podium being a whole bunch of first-time winners that year.
Hello
My lovely laptop is online :) No more ancient desktop for me.
Ah yes, it was indeed Kubica.
yay! :)
Phill tuffnel is discussing f1
F1 is about warm cars and cool cars
Jason buttons car is a warm car
It was I must have been thinking of another race
I remember the time I had a desktop, and I had to bug my dad for months on end to buy me a laptop. ;)
The fact that I can recall a whole podium from a race that was more than a moth ago scare me.
Keyboard fail. Stupid sticky keys.
oh my..... where to start....
OMG! I passed my foundation degree!!! YAY :D:D
Cricket fail
F1 fail
Jenson fail.
I'm gonna be here all night though waiting for it to finish updating itself. Stupid podcasts
YAY! Well done mate!
See you later guys ;)
wheeeyy, congrats!!
congratulations! :)
In fairness he knows naffing about
loansF1He learnt everything from Webbah this morning
Well done! :)
That's great news!
Congrats!
Thanks guys, so happy now. Just have to wait a few day for them to send the certificate. :D
Desktop + wireless keyboard rules for me!
he doesn't seem to do too badly with f1 questions on a question of sport though...
:D :D
What's the plan after that? Are you using it to do something or having a break?
Well I'm not doing anything over the summer so thats my break. I've been doing this course the past two years and have worked all the other time. I refused to continue at work this summer I needed a break. I'll probably do the "top up" course which turns the foundation degree into a full degree.
But YAY! ! :D
http://www.formula1.com/video/
Germany race edit is up!
Was it him who called him Timmy Raikonen?
Rob: "good boy...I liked that"
:D
Hah!
Contraversial radio by brawn there... probably why Rubens was unhappy
You what?
Well, he didn't order him to give way...
Nothing to read into, Jenson was faster and it wasn't a team order...
he really, really talks him through it doesn't he.
not really... he just said, if you can't pick up the pace you need to let Jenson have a go' he didn't say Rubens had to let Jenson pass, just that he needed to improve lap times and stuff.
Ross effectivly told Rubens he would be finishing behind Jenson
..and thats just the radio we heard.
I heard it differently. He told Rubens to pick up the pace, or else he'd have to give a chance to Jenson. He gave Rubens a chance.
i disagree. It wasn't an order, it was just informing Rubens of the situation and giving him a chance. If anything that shows the Brawn want Rubens to do well...
agreed.
It sounded like the begining of the conversation not the end.
I think thats the key to why rubens was upset. And what he said in the interview... talking about championships. Ross has decided winning Jenson the drivers title is the priority
I really don't understand how but I'll just agree to disagree
Hmmm...It would make sense to do that as well given how the team need a sponsor and Rubens has apparently been trying to get a drive at Williams
you got all that from one small piece of radio? fair enough i suppose, i disagree though.
Personally i don't think there was anything in Rubens' fury after the race except not understanding what had happened with the pitstop.. look at it from his perspective, you sit in the pits for what seems like a longish pitstop and assume because you've been there for so long that you have enough fuel to finish the race and so maybe get on the podium. You radio in to the pits to confirm your thoughts and hear 'sorry we messed up the pitstop you'll need to pit again'. Those words aren't exactly going to fill you with joy, so he stops again and finishes lower than he should have done because of a team mistake. He did everything he could and was hindered by the team, which is basically what he said after the race. He didn't want to go back to the team because all he would get was excuses which don't really help anyone. He was talking about the team and how if they kept making these mistakes (he was referring to their mistake last time he was in the lead) then there would be no way they would be able to hold onto the championships. basically - this is our championship to loose, and if we continue this way, we will loose them both.
well that's the way i took it anyway.
Now that makes a lot more sense to me. 100% agree with that. It was, quite bluntly, a bad day at the office and Rubens reacted in the wrong fashion is all.
Although it was nice to see a blunt interview rather than the usual team pr via the drivers. If you watch the interview, even Nicola Roberts' jaw nearly dropped from what he said :P
who is Nicola Roberts?
I dont think Rubens would get so upset about a pitstop mistake though, he has been in F1 long enough to know they happen, and they havent made him shout about it untill now.
We saw by the way he drove all the way to the line before he let Michael what he thinks of team orders.
Between the Interview and that Audio thats what i infer out of it.
Sorry if i dont make any sense, but its just my theory. hope thats ok.
lou, lukeh, did you see the blah-blah-blah-rrichello vid i posted this morning?
Bah.... I meant Nicola Armstrong
I am stupid.. :(
Yeah I've seen it.
Is that Rubens' Jules?
I think she's just the team comms manager for both drivers... I'm not sure how it works with her. She seems to appear with both jenson and rubens... I think...
Lou's better than me with the staff so I could be speaking nonsense :P
I think Nicola is the team press officer.
That's how I understand it too. Nicola is paid by the team as an officer. Jules is paid by Jenson as the PA.
The 2007 season DVD explained it pretty well, actually.
A lot of people get into trouble the first time they drive on grass because there is no grip and no traction.
Depends what you mean by “trouble”. ;-) {Comment #72}
lou, it could be worse - according to F1 Racing (May 2006 edition) Jenson Button once went with friends in a group of three cars to the seaside and attempted to park on the grass car park. The catch was that the grass had dew on it. The other two cars went spinning, missing each other by a small distance, while Jenson's car picked up speed on the grass. The only thing that stopped him going off a cliff was a little gravel path just before the cliff edge. As Jenson said, "My girlfriend wasn't impressed!"
I am sure you will manage to avoid an error of that type, which will surely put you in good stead with your driving instructor and have the added bonus of being something you picked up quicker than the driver most likely to be 2009 champion :)
Nicola is Brawn's communication manager yeah :) she is the lady who we've been thinking has replaced Jules recently at races. However she's always been around, i saw her in some old photos the other day. She does PR and press for the team i believe, so she is often seen behind the drivers when they give interviews after the race :)
yeah i saw it :)
She and Jules appeared in the same feature in the 2007 DVD - and, yes, they do have separate roles.
yeah you make sense :) i love having discussions like this so don't worry :)
i may need to see if i can see a copy of that feature at one point.. :D
Do you know if there are people who read the transcripts on a regular basis? I must admit I have never thought of looking at one in all the time I have been here. {Comment #83}
To be honest, I read the transcripts more often than the audio shows because it takes me a lot less time and effort, especially if I'm having a bad day with sensory processing.
Evening. Busy, busy day... tried to get June's month end finished off at work because someone is off next week, only to be told at 4.55pm that it's okay to leave it until he gets back because we need to be sure the end of quarter is right.. Thursdays,...
cool.. i dint want to make people angry!
I wonder if Nicola Armstrong is the person behind Brawns twitter?
Anyone listen to the Force India podcast from the German GP? {Comment #144}
I must remember to catch up on my podcast listening. I've downloaded that but haven't listened to it yet...
ooo maybe...
I think keeping them separate would be better.
Just reading through today's comments, there is a surprising amount of Neighbours / Home and Away knowledge around here. :-)
Are we still six months behind Aus?
Oh that's just the best thing ever!!
Unless you paid for it, downloaded it, and forgot to read it...
This is probably too late but no, I just push papers around and count things.
I'm still on the lookout for the answers. ;) Why don't you innovate, Pat? Is there nothing to innovate on at work?
I'm not really sure what you mean?
Sometimes I make the odd spreadsheet a bit easier to use.
If I could innovate I would probably try. There's not much innovation to be done with moving stock out of a room and filling up cabinets really, plus I tend to do stuff that other are too lazy to do. I shouldn't really, not my responsibility, but I try my hardest to make things easier no matter how mindnumbing it can be.
How’s Thursday working out for everyone so far? {Comment #155
Pretty well. JobCentre didn't moan at me too much, remembered most of the items on the in-town shopping list and Grandma's fine.
Given what you do at work, do you try to see if there's a way to either make your work easier or ensure you get better results?
Got it. Thanks, Lukeh.
Hmmm... Your answers are really making me think here.
Woah, hold on a second, back up a minute. The bloke who does the touring cars is worse than Legard? Are you referring to British touring (Ben Edwards) or World touring (Martin Haven)?
OK, quick straw poll for all the working folk out there:
Do you innovate at work (whether by improving process tools or developing tools)? If so, why and how often? If not, why not?
Please do answer, if you can. I am in need of some honest opinions. {}
I tried a lot of times in my previous workplace, including the revolutionary thought that the people using the Asian section of the library might appreciate it if that section was sorted occasionally. Typically, I'd come up with a new idea every couple of weeks, but sometimes I'd get a burst of several good ideas in the same week. Put simply, the improvements were needed to make customers happier, enable more and better stuff to be done and, in theory, please the people supervising my workplace (because a place with more customers is always a good thing - you'd think).
Got sacked because my co-workers wanted to pretend to work instead of working, and having people who actually worked (and improved their workplace) made maintaining the pretence really, really difficult. (They also did some stuff that broke some laws, but it's probably best not to discuss that here).
I'm always trying to make my life easier, everyone does don't they?
In practical terms I've updated spreadsheets I'd inherited so that more than one person understands them, and tried to smooth out the handling of invoices coming in..
When I was working in a warehouse I was repeatedly amazed at how lazy people were. I was always looking for little jobs to do when things were quiet. Admittedly this was to stop myself from going insane rather than any sense of innovation.
oops.
Heh. All I'm saying is I work every penny of my wages.
i give up, i have no idea if Rubens has a PA (although i imagine he would?) and if so i've no idea who they are, and what their name is. :(
he doesn't need one does he? jenson's starting an airline.
Very interesting answer there.
That's perhaps a bit extreme, but it does reflect my problem somewhat - when people don't want to innovate, how do you motivate them to innovate?
Aww, I wish I could offer some help but I can't say I've ever noticed an indidivual PA alongside him asides team staff like Nicola is now...
:D
money.
rubens is going to space. rubens wins!
This is what I found in the warehouse. The lazy "workers" were friendly with the team leaders / supervisors so they always got an easy ride..
that's the easiest answer. but management doesn't have the money (or the will) to pay them for it.
you probably need to not employ the unmotivated in the first place.
:D
maybe he wont now... [INSERT MANOR DRIVER] may replace him...
Jules has been Jenson's PA for years.. long before the airline thing (is that still happening btw?) I think Rubens has a private jet though, not that that would mean he would need a PA... maybe he doesn't have one.. :(
but i don't think virgin would pay for it anyway. rubens was always going to pay for it.
and besides, rubens might not be at brawn next year, so what team Virgin is sponsoring may not be so important...
you don't need a pa to wave you off. that's what kids are for.
you do need a pa if you're planning to be a businessman when the driving gigs dry up.
maybe this is why he was truly upset. ;)
well, they're motivated to WORK. but not to innovate. and therein lies the difference.
i'm looking for a solution that's feasible to implement given what's available and my scope of influence.
:D
well, i guess rubens has something to do if he ends up not driving next year...
and FWIW, I do have a budget, but it's not much of one.
i believe so. i wasn't to do with the racing team anyhow.
Oh I meant to say the other day, past week or two I've started reading jackie Stewart's autiobiography. It's absolutely awesome so far, was nearly in tears when I was reading his recap of memories with his brother Jimmy and the funeral :(
Listening for Peter Alliss to swear again?
*it.
Jackie's book is brilliant, although it does taper off a bit towards the end. Still, a very good read, and not your typical F1 bio-fluff.
See we told you, nothing to worry about. :-)
[sweeping generalisation] Old people like complaining. [/sweeping generalisation]
How dare the BBC not include last years race in their classic Hungary selection. Do they not recall that it was the greatest race of the year? {Comment #499}
Probably because the only bit worth seeing was at the end, and they're bound to cover it in the qualifying show anyway...
OMG! I passed my foundation degree!!! YAY :D :D {Comment #541}
Congratulations!
you probably need to find an innovator to lead others then. someone who will be motivated about whatever it is you do and can at least push change onto the unmotivated.
an innovator. hmmm... will have a good long think about that.
thanks, mr. c. :)
yay. go james!
Congrats!!
i shouldn't laugh but... erm..Jenson a businessman? hehee ;)
i thought it was something to do with Honda?
He might have to wear a suit.
next thursday seems soooo far away :(
eek!
I can't do spirits. Well I can manage a small vodka, JD or Southern Comfort with Coke, but not many.
Can't get my head around not liking wine. Everyone likes wine. Unfortunately it gets me plastered now more than it ever did.
that's clearly what he's planning. although can't for the life of me see the appeal.
That’s perhaps a bit extreme, but it does reflect my problem somewhat – when people don’t want to innovate, how do you motivate them to innovate? {Comment #617}
Tip: It helps if someone within the next three levels of line management above them is more interested in innovation than they are. Sadly that wasn't the case where I worked - image was everything to them, and the same dated image at that.
he's planning to run some hondajets if i recall, but they're not due to arrive in europe for at least another 3 years.
they seem to be a niche product too, so he either sticks with them or changes his plans. i can't see how the team bailing from f1 would make any difference.
Some people upstairs are interested. But either more people upstairs need to be interested, or they're just too far up to make any impact downstairs.
Oh, when I commented earlier I didn't realise someone actually did swear :-)
i swear i saw an interview with him once where he said if he didn't do f1 for much longer he'd want to maybe do some other sport, or do triathlons more seriously. i honesly can't see him as a businessman, but if i get to see picks of him in suits more then i suppose that's alright :)
i’m looking for a solution that’s feasible to implement given what’s available and my scope of influence. {Comment #630}
If you could somehow show them that innovation can be fun, then they'd probably be more interested. Difficult to say more precisely how to effect that without more details about the situation than would perhaps be wise to post on a blog.
:)
you don't usually buy a range of aircraft and say you're starting a posh airline unless you have a long term plan to make money from doing so.
i suppose... i've not heard anything about it for ages, would be nice to know if he is planning on continuing with it.
Indeed. But I do get what you're trying to say, though. Will give it a think. Thanks, Alia. :)
yeah that makes sense i suppose. i wonder how much it will cost to fly on his airline?...
Bad times to be starting an airline though, innit?
Button Air?
Perhaps he should consult Niki Lauda. ;)
it's a very slow process. i think it was a something like a 5 year wait from the initial order, to delivery.
planes are quite complicated to build.
presumably it's charter line, given how small the planes are. so, umm, more than easyjet?
i'll start saving then :P
he bought the planes in '07/'08 i think? by the time he gets the keys the economy could be in a whole other place.
he does big, big planes, right? i think button was going for the exclusive market.
Jolly good. By that time, we'll be rich off Sidepodradio and can afford his prices.
they retail at about £3m each. by then i expect we'll have our own.
Good evening .. or rather, good very wet evening
evening :)
Hi Lou, have you had a good day?
i've had a great day thanks. what about you?
It's been okay, nothing oustanding or anywhere remotely awesome but not bad either
heyya.
Mind you, I have a black and white cat .. as thick as two short planks, only 18 months old. When I came home tonight he must have been walking on someone newly painted fence or something cause he's got tangerine coloured paws :D
Hi Jackie
Ooh, pictures?
It seems the podcast I recorded last night, just before the quiz started, is now online. Twitter gossip says my part wasn't very good but in fairness this was his first ever recording and I thought I could wing it without notes (I was wrong). I haven't listened to it yet.
http://planet-irl.blogspot.com/
Hi Pat
you were up against dec though. hardly fair competition.
Hehe I'm bad but since I didn't know what it was he got his paws washed .. he's now gone into hiding under the sofa and I think it will take some bribery to get him out
Ah this is the plug you never got round to plugging last night. I must have a listen :D
Heh this is true, and he was in a rush to get on to MWM so we both hung back and let him talk.
That's 'cos it wasn't online last night :-)
shall listen to it later. already the length of the intro is annoying me.
What on earth is that?!
I'm cooking meatballs (from scratch) for my girlfriend and mum, woop, cooking is fun
Ooh charming .. their comment about forums "Not like in a Forum where the basement dwelling malcontents live to throw insults at each other" .. hope our place isn't viewed like that :(
I haven't downloaded it yet. Will listen after I get food.
It was probably directed at the bitter "fans" of the CART/IRL feud. You didn't want to be in those forums in that era.
I should say I only heard the bit I was in, and it has been edited since.
Off to sort food, back in a bit
Have dropioed a couple of photos of cat, one of the colour it should be and the other, one peachy coloured paw after a bath
awww your car is so cute!
cat... i meant cat.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-119
Cat! What's his name?
Don't blame me for it's name, that's my daughters fault. Horatio LOL
Ahh, like the sailor.
Haha I'm just looking at the photo's on the drop .. wonder who did the one of King Todt.. it's fantastic. :D
Like the Shakespeare character, my daughter is a fan of the bard.
You should try going in the garden and calling for it, I'm sure I must get some weird looks.
Hehe. Better than something like snuffleupagus though.
has this alfa pic been mentioned?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img00018-20090716-1352-jpg
am guessing it's from stuart, looks lovely!
You know that Todt picture .. it would make a great caption competition photo
Ah I know him well
Phew, two blog entries in 1 day. I feel like I've been to the gym or something.
Ooh, will read shortly. You're reminding me of my post backlog though. Advice: Never have regular features.
Parting shot: Guess who wants to sue Toro Rosso:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77001
And on that bombshell, I'm off to bed. Good night! ;)
Ooh Lukeh, have you seen this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBYd9UVBGTs
Night Journeyer
Hehe. I have.
cheers sir.
he might win too.
He has - I posted it this morning. :D
he posted it first.
Ah, I've just seen it .. poor Rubens
but seriously - he was surprised?! it was rumored for weeks...
i think Toro Rosso will win the case. as long as there were performance clauses in the contract that Le Seb didn't meet, the team will be fine.
good night, mr c. :)
I do feel really bad watching it, I have to be honest. Lyrically it's actually quite smart but as a Rubens fan I just feel so bad for him in it :(
It's rougher to its Brazilian counterpart than Felipe Baby was, but I don't think Rubens will mind too much. :)
If he complains openly to the press he's fair game. Them's the rules.
yeah yeah I know :P
So I'm listening to this thing now. I sound odd as ever, more 'English' than I thought. Lots and lots of 'umm's after Dex left and a bit too quiet.
Evening all. What's the good word? :)
Rubens is singing, Jean Todt is standing, and Bourdais is suing
Fun fun, then.
all gone quiet? Mock The Week on soon
Has a bit!
Too tense in the speedway
So Toro Rosso are getting essentially the exact same upgrade as Red Bull? That should certainly help. Although how strong the Ferrari engine will be compared to the Renault we shall have to wait and see. So far it proves Renault's is superior in the right car.
It would be good to see them on form again like they were at the end of last season and the beginning of this. Buemi deserves a real car to showcase his talents, as does Alguersuari. He really couldn't have entered that second seat at a better time. Although, AUTOSPORT magazine was reporting that Loeb would drive the car before this season was through. If that really does happen, it'll be immense.
Just want to say thanks again to everyone who congratulated me earlier, so happy :D
I'm sat here listening to songs from the parade lap on my ipod, which is odd considering I could play them on my laptop instead.
I think its all down to how efficient the two engines are with the fuel, I remember it being mentioned with Ferrari and Massa in Spain when he was running low on fuels.
It also feels kinda weird seeing McLaren targeting wins now. I guess that such has been the domination from Brawn and Red Bull that we've kinda forgotten what it was like having Macca and Ferrari at the front. What's even more amazing is that fact that that was only just last year.
i haven't forgotten what it felt like having ferrari and Mclaren at the front, i just choose to ignore the memory :P i like this season much better :D
Agreed it feels weird that McLaren could win a race like it has never happened. What is shows is the engines are fine, it is the cars around them that have made the difference this year.
Plus the fact that both Brawn's and Force India's development strategies have been much more efficient and rewarding compared to McLaren's approach, which was just throw new bits at the car in the hope they actually do something. 9 times out of 10, they didn't. Now they have a diffuser's that's been properly worked on, it's only now they're starting to reap the benefits and see their form return once again.
Plus I thought it was kinda cool to see Massa on the podium again, and I don't even like Ferrari!
McLaren were desperate to fix the problem and had a scattergun approach of throwing bits on and hoping for improvement, it worked at Bahrain but then didn't in Spain. I feel they were lacking direction, when Ron was in charge they would have waited and done what other teams have done this year.
I was so happy for Webber I didn't even notice Massa.
And another thing - is it me, or has Toyota been the team doing the least development on their car? I've not seen anything remotely different on it since China/Bahrain or so. Maybe they've come to the conclusion that their previous approach which was to just throw money at the problem and hope everything sorts itself out was wrong and this time not actually spend as much. Trouble is, it's still getting them nowhere.
Mind you, I think McLaren became the new Toyota for a bit until they stopped the scattergun approach. Only with the common sense to actually see what they were doing and stop before they got too ahead of themselves to notice.
Speedway makes me depressed, I like F1 again.
Welcome back, R.G.
Greetings world. Have I missed anything excitining?
Bourdais' suing STR, who are also getting an RBR-style big update, Todt's confirmed his running for FIA president, someone's made a parody song of Rubens' moaning, McLaren think they can win in Hungary, Webber's looking at a new RBR contract and AUTOSPORT magazine's reporting Loeb will drive for STR before the end of the season.
Apart from that, nothing much. ;)
I saw the AUTOSPORT Loeb story. They are also saying that before he drives they may give Hartley a run as well as jimmy Superaguri
Hi Steven. James passed his course, Lou drove a car, Lukeh wrote two blog posts and Mock The Week is on.
I don't think a team's had 5 different drivers since 1994 or something...
Plus the fact that Loeb's apparently been getting some track time in an F3000 car to get himself "up to speed".
Super Aguri in 06?
Sato, Ide, Montagny, Yamamoto. Maybe not then. Your probably right.
I have Mock the Week on. Congratulations James. Well done Lukeh. I hope Lou's lesson went well
i need to iplayer mock the week later. hehe my lesson was awesome! driving is fun :)
Autosport had a quote from Heri Pescarolo who ran Loeb at Le Mans saying that he was nearly as fast as Franck which presumably means he rates Franck.
That's good. I assume you are going to try a second lesson then?
bloomin' heck.
Rhod Gilbert on Mock the Week. What more could you want?
Thank god for the iplayer!
Both Simtek and Lotus had in total 6 drivers each in 1994:
Simtek: Brabham, Ratzenberger, Montermimi, Gounon, Schiatarella, Inoue
Lotus: Lamy, Herbert, Zanardi, Salo, Adams, Bernard.
rhod gilbert! :o yay!!!
And Brabham stayed in the same car all year...
of course :) i have a 2 hour lesson booked for next week :)
Team Lotus in 1994 : Lamy, Adams, Salo, Zanardi, Herbert, Bernard
Larrousse in 1994 : Beretta, Alloit, Dalmas, Noda, Deletraz, Comas
Simtek in 1994 : Brabham, Montermini, Ratzenberger, Gounon, Inoue, Schiaterella
So what happened in today's lesson then?
Ah, missed Larrousse.
So your right anyways, 1994.
Seriously, that year had so many driver changes it's ridiculous.
2008 had just 20 drivers. 1994 had 46.
Yes, 46.
well.. i started the car several times and didn't stall! (yay!), i got into 2nd gear and up to 30mph, negotiated 2 roundabouts successfully, realised how funny and patient my driving instructor is, and didn't crash once :) can't wait for lesson no. 2.
What about previous years, guessing it would have been worse.
Maybe in the years when the Indy 500 was part of the championship.
Sounds like you are going to like driving. It's like sidepodpanel. Scary before you do it and great fun once you get into it.
One year there were about 39 cars entered so there must have been a lot of drivers.
1989 or 1990 wasn't it? The days when pre-qualifying was packed.
it's so so so so fun! i loved it. even though it was sooo scary at the same time. i wish my next lesson was tomorrow. hehe yes i suppose you're right.
1950 had 74, taking into account Indy entrants.
It won't stay scary for long. As soon as you feel in control that will go.
I love this Mock the Week! :D
:) yay! sounds like there is a thunder storm coming :) i ♥ thunderstorms.
"Serving suggestion - on a plate, you thick moron!" :D
Test
You are having a good day
Looks like the doohickey doesn't like anyone copying the heart symbol
i know, no one would think it was a thursday :)
oh sorry.
I completely forgot it was thursday :o
Thats how unthursday it's been
We've hard very dark clouds and fairly heavy rain since this afternoon and it is heading East. It has actually cleared up here now.
er, 'we've had'
we've had clear blue skys all day, and this seems really sudden, but amazing at the same time :D
Clearing my head for a mass blogging attempt.
Ooh, paper Autosport identified a record broken on Sunday: Number of F1 race starts before first win.
Webber 130
Barrichello 123
Trulli 117
The Xbox 360 Touring Car Championship is now known as the Race Department Touring Car Championship, and after a lot of waiting we finally have everything sorted out. Test race is August 6th at Laguna Seca.
Plus there's the Race-Shop World Series race at Pau. Gonna be a busy schedule for me in the sim racing world.
It got quiet again...
Good... I need to prep to write some blog posts - I have three in the works including the driver consistencies one that should have been posted by Tuesday :(
This Volvo S60 Challenge touring car I'm running round Laguna Seca at the moment is a brilliant car on a default setup. Really does seem to have quite a lot of mechanical grip. I'm starting to prefer it over the Chevy.
Ditto, it has removed a distraction so I can work on the weekend preview post :-)
Evening everyone,
just suffered though one of the most boring 3 and a half hours of my life... I suspect i wont be ever getting the time back...
is it really the 18-19 July this weekend? that's nuts
On the subject of the Apollo tapes, I read the other day that they had found some in Perth, Western Australia. The tracking station in Perth was used to receive the images from the Moon during the first Moonwalk and the tapes should have been sent to the US the following year but apparently were not.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/29/moon_landing_tapes/
This year has gone SO fast!
Been sleeping all day and when I woke up I realized that Brawn should've signed a sponsorship deal before this slip-up, now their value is certainly down. They do need a title sponsor.
And Button is in the position to choose any team for 2010. Jenson may as well produce another surprise. Button to Ferrari? Just speculating.
Would be interesting to see him in a McLaren...
Merceddes seem to love him of late
doing what?
I think it was Nick asking for a spiral track last night. This is probably the closest we'll get?
http://www.motogp.com/en/circuits/Sachsenring/2009
What does Nick Fry have on Ross? Fry is a commercial disaster, last year he had foam coming out of his mouth about going green, this year he's surprisingly quiet on the subject. Cheap, very cheap.
Awesome track though!
no no no no NO! Jenson can't go moving anywhere. not Ferrari, and especially not Mclaren.
Hehe, that is pretty close!
I had the anual residents association meeting for the flats i live in.
I was the only person there under 50, and they kept going over the most minor points in the accounts.
Followed by some quite minor looooooong discussions.
Then we had a presentation by some property company who want to rebuild the village with some crazy multi level roof garden supermarket car park train station hotel retirement complex
Whats wrong with McLaren, they could have an all British lineup
(sorry amy, but heikki could go to mclaren)
Brawn!
It's a tough choice when I think of my favourite for the title but definitely Jenson or Mark. Rubens is getting on my nerves, never liked him anyway and Vettel is lacking personality, he's more like a character from a bad Hollywood movie, bad clothes, constant exaggerated smile.
Adios bambinos, must go.
Hamilton and Paul di Resta?
a) you attended?
b) you didn't walk out halfway through?
that would be horrible!!! noooo... Jenson would be stuck as no.2 driver! eeek... that would be horrible... they would never favour Jenson over darling Lewis. No Jenson must stay at Brawn or i may cry.
They could've chose Gary paffett as a number 2 driver before but nooooooo they went for the other guy*
*thats his actual name according to youtube comments so im right in saying that ;)
I'd like it to be between Jenson and Mark, realistically it'll be between Jenson and Sebastian - unless Mark's win lights a spark under him.
that would be a 75% british line up
Assuming Di Resta would not be succeeding half the time, and would therefore be Scottish ;)
#sidepodspace
I have been catching up on a few (well a lot) of things including trying to find out when we are going to get some entertainment in space.
Tomorrow (don't know what time yet) The shuttle arrives at the ISS and after the back flip to allow the ISS crew to photograph the underside of the shuttle it will dock. On the last shuttle misson there were some incredible views of the Earth behind the shuttle. Hopefully there will be some areas with no cloud again tomorrow.
Friday is spacewalk 1 day. The Japanese porch is being installed but you know what builders are like. The spacewalk like the other four is scheduled to last 6 and a half hours. This spacewalk invoves transfering loads from the shuttle robotic arm to the main ISS arm. Hope they have a good frip before the shuttle arm lets go.
Sunday is spacewalk 2 day. The worklist for this looks pretty simpe but I assume it involves a lot more than it seems.
Monday has a lot of robotic arm work so could be interesting.
Tuesday is spacewalk 3 day nd the main job is to swap out some of the solar array batteries. These are not only big and heavy (not that heavy matters in space) but have numerous cooling fins which have to be perfectly lined up when installing the new batteries.
Wednesday is another robotic day but using the Japanese arm on the Kibo module.
Thursday is spacewalk 4 day. The rest of the batteries will be swapped out and there will be some cargo containers picked up by the main station arm and handed to the shuttle arm to be packed for return to Earth.
Friday is a day off where the crew can go out for a beer or two.
Saturday is another robotic day. Some experiments from the Japanese Porch will be shifted into the shutle bay and some cargo from the shuttle will be trasferred to the ISS.
Sunday is spacewalk 5 day. They are doing a whole load of stuff I don't understand and installing a wireless camera.
Monday is packing the bags before leabing day. The hatches will be closed at the end of the day.
Tuesday is undocking day and the shuttle will do a flyaround of the ISS to get photos of its new configuration.
Wednesday is a day floating about in space with probably nothing to watch.
Thursday is landing day o at least the first day where they could attempt to land. I am sure that Christine will make sure the landing is on schedule.
Yessssss..... :(
Couldnt really, i wanted to stay for the redevelopment stuff, and i needed the chairman of the committee to sort out Virgin media for me...
Space is BIG!
If they had sent them to the US they would probably have taped someone in a simulator over them.
Mr C? I need to favourite this comment to refer back to later.
Now if steven had a blog... ;)
riiiight...
YES!! that's it :)
Someone talking sense
Paffett is over-rated
If he beats lewis 50% of the time I will be very happy. I doubt that he or anyone else would
That's what I heard
If he gets on the podium then he would have to be british....There would be a flag ;)
You could just go to http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html and download the press kit pdf The schedule starts on page 17 of 134
I couldn't call it sidepodspace so it wouldn't work.
If he gets up on the top step there will be THAT flag and THAT song.
Mr C should not read the press kit. It contains pages that say "This page is intentionally left blank"
I was thinking about it the other day..
I think i would write something like
"this page may have been interntionaly left blank?"
I just found out that they have added the White Sands space harbour in New Mexico tothe one orbit abort sites.
If it was an intelligence briefing, would it read "This page has been intentionally left blank... or has it?"
I bought the 2005 F1 review DVD in HMV today and am now watching it in bed. :)
Ive been to white sands... erie place.
Is that where virgin galactic are launching from?
I hate that in test papers, waste of paper.
Let us know if you see any magnums at mclaren ;)
It is a commercial space port which a number of companies plan to use. I assume Virgin Galactic will be one of them and probably the first.
Hayden has stolen Kimi's giant hat!
He has too. Those two drivers are scarily similar actually...
blimey.. I'm checking TV schedules... the ALMS race this Saturday will not air on UK TV for 9 days!
Cue John Hindhaugh rant in 3...2...1...
I missed that. It looks the same. Maybe it is fashionable in some part of the world to have a big hat.
Is Kimi's actual hat only exclusive to him or is it on sale somewhere? I want one.
there was one in the ferrari store in london. i saw it! and then laughed and walked away :D
Accoring to http://www.americanlemans.com/ quali will be streaming live at speedtv.com from 3pm Eastern on Friday.
Also saw in AUTOSPORT today that ALMS are tryin to only have one prototype an on GT class next season which is a step in the right direction.
surely he can't bad mouth the channel too much, since The Grid airs on it..
Maybe the reason Kimi is not fast enough is because he can't see past his hat.
oh yeah, we did see one! i put it on!!
it's HUGE.
Maybe ... it's a bit up in the air at the moment with what the new class rules are going to be.
Well, Martin Haven criticises the series he comments on, so why not?
But you look nice with a normal hat on!
Are you suggesting he actually wears it under his helmet?
I saw that on the Speed website, it'll have RLM commentary.
It may be right for the ALMS, I'm not convinced it is right for Le Mans itself though.
It would never fit!
Of course he wears it on top :P
and people wonder why the GP2 contract was lost?
A-HA! :D
http://store.ferrari.com/Caps---Hats/Ferrari-Cappellino-Raikkonen-By-Puma/p,shop.flypage/pid,22681/cid,114/
I haven't seen his hair in years
You sure thats the right one? doesnt his have a flat peak?
But Eurosport and Haven have the GP2, don't they?
I think Le Mans can cope with more classes but it is hard for anyone to follow a championship with four classes. Best not to dilute the competition and get as few classes as possible.
Hmm you're right. It's different to the one he has on in this pic.
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/1312581
After first losing it to ITV4, then Sultana, then only got it back because nobody else wanted it. I'm not saying this is a bad thing btw, I like it there.
I'm not sure I want to. It's disturbingly long.
And I like that Martin Haven can have a beautiful rant about idiot safety car drivers in WTCC too!
Le Mans has had many classes for years which has suited it just fine.
Martin Haven is a legend. He was awesome when he did Radio Le Mans too.
They definitely sell it. The one in the ferrari store was simply gargantuan.
Its not on ebay either...
So it's a Ferrari Store London exclusive?
They'd need to bring the classes together a bit in performance. I don't like the idea of 50% LMP1 and 50% GT2.
If the championships only have two classes there is no way LM can support the other two by itself although I assume the LMS in Europe will do whatever the 24 does.
i feel the need to add that this hat looked ridiculous even on the model it was on... there is no way this hat could look good....
http://store.ferrari.com//e-shop.des/page,shop.flypage/product_id,Segway-PT-i2-Ferrari-Limited-Edition_13527/category_id,Hi-Tech_46/
Hmmm
I can;t see why it would be to be honest, seems strange why it'd be exclusive but who knows...
Was that on MWM or the live coverage? I haven't caught up with either yet :-(
:D
says it all when you can spot out a cap like that
It doesnt look too bad on hayden.
but kimi looks like a clown. Maybe hes doing if for some sort of drunken bet.
You wouldn't believe how far behind I am on everything. It is all down to my refusal to jump ahead and the apparent need to want to see/hear everything. I'd blog about it but I have a backlog there too.
I refuse to watch WTCC as I find it absurd. Touring Cars should be about banging doors yet there is almost as much politicking as in F1!
It was on MWM a couple of weeks back I think...
it's possible.i saw a pic of him the other day in a normal non ferrari cap and it looked fine. so maybe it's all ferrari wanted to give him?
That's just an excuse for fat, rich people to be able to say "Look at me, I dri...ride a Ferrari...sort of."
I watched it last year, it could be entertaining when it wasn't on Grand Prix tracks, which are too long and too wide for it. The whining is never-ending though.
All this rubbish about TDIs.
I am trying to watch BTCC instead as it's the same cars but it seems more racing focused...
Yep. The driving is sometimes a bit suspect for my liking though. Banging doors is okay, shoving people off the track is not. At least they race on tracks suited to the cars.
This Japanese space porch looks bigger than I thought. I hope they have planning permission or they may have to knock it down.
Night all - might pop in over the weekend but it will be sporadic (I'm at the bloody outpost again) so have fun!
Is £240 too much to spend on a jacket?
Night, have fun...
night Gavin!
Night! ...You sound like some sort of cowboy on the frontier!
Night Gavin
depends on the jacket...
and who is paying for it..
Probably unless you really must have one.
Not if it is the best jacket in the world.
Me!
ahh.. i'm going to go with Steven, it's probably a little bit too much unless it's amazing and you really need to have it..
If you didn't buy the jacket what would you buy with the money?
Is it a lifejacket, and are you drowning?
If no, and no......... no.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jacket-jpg
No as in don;t go there sister.
Dates, games, and beer!
:o... that is a nice jacket......
ahaha :D
Im officially scared of Lukeh!
Well... it is very nice :-)
If only it was half the price...Its already reduced from 300 though
Ditto...
Right, off to sleep now. Night guys :)
night Scott.
Night
Are you prepared to give them up to sit at home on your own in the jacket?
I dont think i will be getting it unless the market does something good and then i might give it to me as a bonus.
On the plus side its about 1000 times cheaper than a car :P
Night Scott
I notice that we have a new member of the wiki called FKM.
;)
Has he done anything yet?
*waves at frackanack*
No. We have 92 members now so I think we need a recruiting drive and a target date for 100.
good call!
I notice that the Wiki is missing.
missing?

Im just continuing my voyage through the West Wing.
I cant state how amazing this show is.
My ambition in life is to create a F1 political drama series half as good as this.
Ah. I wonder why my links are out of date, I've been using the correct URL for some time now.
That's the second time this has happened to me today, earlier on I was using the wron URL for something else...
oddly i don't think it's ever been the url you just mentioned.
for a time it was: http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/ - but never anything else.
I think I used to use the url Andy said.
I knew it! Thanks for making me reailse I'm not going mad!
I need to do this some time. I've got LOST planned for the autumn.
That is awesome. Unfortunatly i got into it too early, now i am just drip fed. Its not enough!
I think jake must be a WW fan as the show is 75% walk and talk
I suggest you save yourself the bother and read the story on Wikipedia or something.
all of it? for the first time?
I think he must be :-)
Really? Is it bad then?
I saw a big chunk of series 1 but then they moved it off of C4 so I couldn't watch it any more. Exactly the same thing happened with 24.
no. awesome.
that'll be that pesky murdoch man. grr.
Its amazing, but it keeps you needing to know more.
Its quite rewarding at times but also drives you crazy.
Watching it in big blocks is great though!
It'll apparently be on BT Vision until January. I don't use that enough.
Says it quietly.. I'm going to watch s2 of Andromeda next week, before it gets removed.
Hmm. I like knowing what's going on. I'd noticed it divides opinion though.
How many series are there? I think 1-4 are available to me.
may depend on who you watch it with. it's a show that generates discussion, you can't just watch it and then go do something else. you have to talk about it.
I should take this opportunity to warn you that watching episodic tv with a member of the opposite sex is a very dangerous thing to do.
Make sure you know what you are getting into before you do it!
?
*raises eyebrow*
:P
oh?
I'll be watching it alone, so I guess I'll be bugging you guys about it.
this'll be fun...
haha :D
no worries.
Choose your next words carefully :-)
Process development, new product development, invent stuff. etc
Did he run away? I think he's having a very long think about what to say next..
waiting for the paint to dry...
:D
Me? what did i say :P
Its true though... You form all sorts of strange emo...
..I better stop
please go on... ;)
Do they expect you to cry?
ok ;)
tional ties with the characters and each other. It is magic love potion... highly dangerous
ahhh yeah that's kinda true.. i'll be gutted when David Tennant is replaced as the Doctor, so i can't really argue with what you say... :)
tional ties with the characters and each other. It is magic love potion... highly dangerous
What you're saying is... it is quite mushy and luvvie duvvie?
oops, quote error on my part
It has to come from the top of the company. It has to be policy and it has to be pushed. People don't like change and it takes a concerted campaign by management to promote a change of culture from comfortable consistency and unquestioning complacency to make people embrace change and question everything. It cannot be done without management driving it.
Concerted campaign. Hmmm... At least we might be on the right path when it comes to that. That said, I'll need to influence them to push harder than they are now.
I disagree that people need to be paid to innovate. It is not connected to money. Management need to make it clear that people can contribute and their contribution will be welcomed and encouraged. Most people go with the status quo because it is easy and because that is what they think is expected of them.
Hmmm... Steven Roy, you are really making me mull over this one. Very good point, that.
Very much agreed on this point.
I worked for a company many years ago that went from total complacent compliance to total questioning innovation but it took a few years and started with the whole board of directors going on a one week course.
They then sent all management and supervisors on similar courses then over the next few months everyone else in th company went on a one day course. When I say everyone I mean operators, cleaners, receptionists. Everyone. And everyone had to use the tools they were taught in their normal work.
That was the very first step in culture change and that took 6 months. During the bulk of that time the vast majority whinged about the waste of time money and effort. It probably took 18 months before a comfortable majority bought into it. THe company made incredible strides as a resut.
