It is little Anthony Davidson's birthday today, and as it turns out, he's over 30. Perhaps we should stop calling him little Ant now. It's also Jordan Allen's birthday, but I already gave him a mention in the daily that was really a weekly. Happy birthday though Jordan! Meanwhile, here are some things we're talking about:

  • Mr C managed to break through the great firewall of China to chat with Joe for the latest Aside with Joe podcast. There's plenty of great stuff in there, but one thing sticks out for me. I want to sit on a yacht in Monaco chatting to Joe. Who wouldn't!?
  • The talk about tyres continues, only this time we're looking ahead to who is going to supply for 2011. Michelin have been the name bandied around recently, but now it looks like Cooper Avon could also step up. I've never heard of them before, and it looks as though the Spanish GP is a self-imposed deadline for things to be confirmed.
  • Thanks to Lady Snowcat and Kathi who have been keeping us updated on Kimi's progress through the rally in Turkey. He's currently in sixth and about 4 minutes behind the leader. I don't know if that's good or not but it's certainly better than crashing into a tree. Go Kimi!
  • Finally, Mr C is loving the new watch from Bernie and his people: the F1™ King Power watch. You have to be careful how you say that, you really do.

That should do it for now. Enjoy the racing today, and you know I will see you in the comments.

Just bored. Had planned to watch telly stuff, did for a bit (HIGNFY), then the Aside which was good, then didn't feel like I wanted to concentrate on FastForward or a film as I'd planned, or the ALMS race either.. so skimmed through a lot of old google reader posts with some music on

    Hi there guys...

Just getting ready for the start of the rally and heard that due to heavy overnight rain the opening stage has been cancelled....

So either 5 stages or 4 as not sure if the 4th stage (which was the second running of that opening stage) will happen... I'll keep you posted...

Kimi will be happy as he gets more sleeping time....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 06:44

The guys in Turkey are thinking that the rain and stage cancellation gives it to Loeb ... it's his to win or lose...

Only 4 or 5 stages for Kimi to hold that 6th place....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 06:51

The first stage of the day will go live at 7.51 so I suppose I can watch the start of the F1 race ....

  • Leigh O'Gorman18/04/2010 at 07:01

    morning folks,

oh to be Timo right now...

Just realised Lewis is on the prime and doesn't have to stop....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 07:43

    The rally has started....

    Two on the road...

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 07:45

Mikko is on the stage and he and Petter look quicker than Loeb and as Loeb has a lead of 16 secs this could be an exciting day....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 07:50

Mikko Hirvonen has had a problem so it looks like only Petter can now challenge Seb....

5 on stage at the moment...

    Next is Kimi....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 07:55

Huge problems for Mikko and Kimi slow second split....

Both Hamilton and Vettel were driving in the pits in such a way as they were not in full control of their cars, thus endangering pit lane staff. The release timing does not appear to have merited any action in the eyes of the stewards.

They may still be deciding on it; if they were dealing with Hamilton/Vettel first, then they've only been discussing the Ferrari thing for about 40 minutes so far. It's not like the foreign stewards can go home earlier if they make their minds up quickly...

  • Christine18/04/2010 at 11:18

I laugh when I see things like Catherine saying 'well done' to Heikki on twitter. I'm quite sure she probably told him in person as well :D

It sounds very sensible. Talking is so un-MFC.

  • Amy18/04/2010 at 11:18

    Twitter might be their doohickey?

    I wish!

    back soon! x

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:26

About 15 minutes before the last stage goes live...

Apparently Loeb gave huge air on one of the jumps on this stage this morning so that'll be worth checking out on Dave this evening....

  • Jeremy18/04/2010 at 11:29

JEREMY!!! Will there be a new iphone in June?

I'll make it for you personally and deliver it by limo. How does that sound? About as accurate as me knowing? :P

You'll know at the same time as me Paul. I'm not that important yet :)

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:31

    I'm not that important yet

    Love it....

    The "Yet" that is....

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:31

You'll know at the same time as me Paul. I'm not that important yet :)

    :D

Just thought you might have a better idea. My current phone is just about dead

  • Jeremy18/04/2010 at 11:33

    The "Yet" that is....

with great power, comes great responsibility.

maybe I don't want the 'yet' to ever happen :P

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:36

Just worked out that the current points from Turkey would be :-

Citroen 25 points Loeb (nil for Sordo)

Ford 22 points Mikko and Jari Matti

Ciroen Juniors 22 points Ogier and KIMI

    Pretty good....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:37

with great power, comes great responsibility.

    Aha...

In that case you wouldn't say "Yet"....

You do want it or you wouldn't have said....

  • Jeremy18/04/2010 at 11:37

Just thought you might have a better idea. My current phone is just about dead

I read recently that they think the next one will be called iPhoneHD and will come in June.

As a pundit (as opposed to employee), that doesn't sound likely.

From memory, Apple normally announce something before giving it to the FCC for approval because the approval process takes a few months and they know leaks will occur.

Apple might find a better way, but I think you'll get some kind of timeframe by way of announcement soon. How long is that piece of string again?

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:38

Just worked out that the current points from Turkey would be :-

How many points does Red Bull get?

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:38

About to start the final stage...

Heart racing and fingers crossed for the Kimster....

    I should have been there....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:39

How many points does Red Bull get?

They are the Citroen Junior team so currently on 22 points, 12 for Ogier and 10 for Kimi....

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:40

Apple might find a better way, but I think you'll get some kind of timeframe by way of announcement soon. How long is that piece of string again?

Hmmm. I might keep an eye out for cheapish 3gs then.

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:40

Jean Todt was at the finish in Turkey and hugged Kimi.... I am not expecting him to be in Turkey....

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:40

They are the Citroen Junior team so currently on 22 points, 12 for Ogier and 10 for Kimi....

From the coverage I saw yesterday, they seem to sponser 90% of the feild!

  • Kathi18/04/2010 at 11:40

Just worked out that the current points from Turkey would be :-

    you sure about that?

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:41

    Loeb at the first split....

  • Lukeh18/04/2010 at 11:41

Jean Todt was at the finish in Turkey and hugged Kimi.... I am not expecting him to be in Turkey....

Is he following him around the WRC world? :)

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:41

    you sure about that?

    What do you make it?....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:42

Is he following him around the WRC world?

He's certainly going to send him a Christmas card...

More people following rallying than ever before....

  • Kathi18/04/2010 at 11:43

    What do you make it?....

    25 for Citroen

    26 for Ford

    and 27 for the Juniors

but then I always get that part wrong :)

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:43

More people following rallying than ever before....

Which is ironic given how un-competitive it is, manufacturer wise

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:44

    Surely it's 25,18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2,1...

  • Alianora La Canta18/04/2010 at 11:45

    Surely it's 25,18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2,1... {Comment #156}

    Yes, Lady Snowcat, it is.

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:45

25 for Citroen26 for Fordand 27 for the Juniorsbut then I always get that part wrong

Whoops I'd put Mikko in second....

    And forgotten Petter...

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:46

    How could you forget Petter?

Are there 10 WRC cars running?

  • Kathi18/04/2010 at 11:47

Whoops I'd put Mikko in second....

I did that too. Because Petter doesn't count for the manufacurer championship, no?

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:47

I now have Ford on 19 not 22...

But Citroen only has 25 points as Sordo gets "nil points"....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:48

I did that too. Because Petter doesn't count for the manufacurer championship, no?

He gets the points and I don't think they roll them down....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:49

    Loeb takes win 57...

Apparently one of his jumps this morning was 85 metres... almost flying....

  • Kathi18/04/2010 at 11:49

He gets the points and I don't think they roll them down....

oh okay. like I said I always get that wrong

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:50

oh okay. like I said I always get that wrong

I was certainly wrong too and may still be...

I am a rookie at this....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:51

    Petter Solberg back and second....

    And Kimi has started....

    Purrrlease be careful Kimi....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:53

    Kimi to the second split....

  • paul18/04/2010 at 11:53

    Petter Solberg back and second....

    yay Petter!

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:56

They have just said manufacturers point 18 for Ford so the lovely Kathi is right about the points going up...

    Woooo...

    I have learned something today...

    Thanks Kathi....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:56

    Kimi at the third split....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:57

    Now the fourth split....

  • Jeremy18/04/2010 at 11:58

Hmmm. I might keep an eye out for cheapish 3gs then.

    Sorry. Disappeared for a bit.

Did you hear the Nelson laugh? (simpsons reference)

Finding a cheap one will be hard but I'll keep an eye out for you

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 11:59

    KIMI IS FIFTH....

    Hurray....

    I love this guy....

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 12:09

You seem to get manufacturers points from Super Rally but not if you don't finish at all but I may be wrong... Kimi got points in Sweden but not in Mexico....

    Henning another puncture....

Hey Journeyer, I did think about recording it for you but the drop has expired... they used Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel and something else.

    Hope you're having fun!

  • Lady Snowcat18/04/2010 at 13:28

The manufacturers points for Turkey are up and because I didn't take Petter out I was wrong.... no surprise there then...

But the Citroen Junior Team (Red Bull team) got top points at 27...

Citroen senior team 25 points (got that right!)...

    Ford 24 points...

So Ford didn't do a bad damage limitation exercise because Sordo went out... shows how important it was for Jari Matti to stagger on after his roll....

  • MarileneRiddle18/04/2010 at 13:31

But the Citroen Junior Team (Red Bull team) got top points at 27...

    Must be Kimi's influence. ;)

  • Journeyer18/04/2010 at 13:32

  • Kathi18/04/2010 at 13:35

    4. Sebastien Ogier Citroen +3.46,0

has thing been discussed from @ScarbsF1?

As the McLarens exit the turn onto the back straight, you can see the vortex start to form off the rear wing, then disappear. That is the F-Duct working to reduce drag, amazing to see it in action! Then the vortices reappear off the wing tip as they start to brake, amazing!

  • Amy18/04/2010 at 14:09

I really enjoyed the first minute of the Aside then I fell asleep. I have developed the ability to balance a lap top in my sleep. Three times recently I have fallen asleep with my laptop on my lap and woken up a couple of hours later with it still there. • Alianora La Canta18/04/2010 at 14:37

Panda Racing has the best team in Fantasy Racers overall! It's Team OC GP, if anyone wants to admit to having such an impressive team (it's definitely not me).

  • Alianora La Canta18/04/2010 at 15:25

As for my entries in Fantasy Racers:

LCM Alfa managed a pretty poor 301 points. It's the worst result of the season for the team. Kubica brought in 136 of those by himself while Massa did not disgrace himself either. Senna was predictably slow and de la Rosa was predictably unreliable. However there is nothing the management can do about this.

LCM Barato obtain 246 points between its six drivers. Glock and Kobayashi cancelled each other's scores out but both of them were frankly makeweights in this race. The management is extremely thankful for Petrov's presence on the squad (worth 111 points) otherwise the team would look even worse than it is.

LCM Caro's tally of 453 points was respectable - Vettel and Alonso scored almost equally well and Webber provided useful back-up. Hopefully this good progress will continue.

LCM Dragons is pleased with its score of 577 points. Sutil slightly disappointed by scoring only 84 points but his team-mates Kubica, Rosberg and Hamilton were impressive; Kubica was 5th and Rosberg and Hamilton shared the lower steps of the podium.

LCM Fire Lizard is ecstatic about obtaining its best result of the season - 541 points has brought them 2727 places up the overall Fantasy Racers league. Even Liuzzi's spin-worthy race did little to damp enthusiasm, for Button won, Hamilton followed him home and Sutil did a reasonable support job.

  • Jordan f118/04/2010 at 17:21

7Up Jordan Mercedes Bridgestone is pleased to collect its season-highest points grab of 458 points, which has moved them up 172 points in the overall league.

This points haul has enabled Jordan F1 to move up two places in its other league to 24th place, and more importantly, gain 12 positions in the Panda League to 396th place.

The team is highly pleased with its newest driver, Adrain Sutil, who's hiring gained an extra 14 points over his predessor, Nico Hulkenberg.

Look at Results & Scores then Driver scores and you will see who picks up points and doesn't cost a load of money.

Best team to have so far this season would seem to be Petter, Ogier, Hirvonen and Sordo

    #sidepodspace update

Owing to NASA's weird concept of time (I know that is odd to comment about anyone having a weird concept of time on here) I have not seen much of the shuttle mission. However it is due to land tomorrow and at a reasonable time. The first landing opportunity is at the Kennedy Space Center at 1:48pm UK time. Coverage on NASA TV will start several hours earlier and if that landing opportunity is not taken there should be a second about an hour and a half later.

If the first landing slot is taken the de-orbit burn will happen at 12:43pm so we get an hour's notice of a landing.

I have no idea where the money came from and that he is going has more to do with how good he is driving than what happened in Jordan. Just the timing of the announcement was a bit unfortunate.

    Evening all.

Golfing is much nicer in the sun and it is always nice to see a course you've never visited. Am knackered though, and the round wasn't particularly brilliant (stupid courses being well-kept, our local course is shoddy and ramshackle like a good westcountry venue should be), but I feel fitter and my dodgy ankle isn't yet screaming with pain, so it's mostly all good.

Max's "Concorde Agreement" with me ran out a long time ago when he asked me to change the laws of physics so that F1 cars move like chess pieces.

I mean, how was I supposed to make an F1 car move like a knight and then another like a boshop on the same track? Anyone that says they want F1 to be like a chess match is clearly beyond even my help!

Lots of selotape, stick back plastic and the Blue Peter presenters :)

  • Steven Roy18/04/2010 at 20:58

Just seen Buemi's practice 'incident', how was that car allowed to race?!

Why not? It was just a part failure

  • Jon Waldock18/04/2010 at 20:59

Why not? It was just a part failure

From both wheels, at the same time? I would say thats a bit more than 'just a part failure'

  • RubberGoat18/04/2010 at 20:59

Just seen Buemi's practice 'incident', how was that car allowed to race?!

    What a freak accident eh?

As DC said on saturday, the car is designed to dissipate energy so all they had to do was replace the front end...

  • Bassano18/04/2010 at 20:59

Just seen Buemi's practice 'incident', how was that car allowed to race?!

Because the modified parts were swapped with the original design

  • Bassano18/04/2010 at 21:00

From both wheels, at the same time? I would say thats a bit more than 'just a part failure'

One side failed, the other exceeded it's designed load

  • RubberGoat18/04/2010 at 21:00

Why not? It was just a part failure

From both wheels, at the same time? I would say thats a bit more than 'just a part failure'

No, apparently it was the right upright that failed, which overloaded the left one...

  • Steven Roy18/04/2010 at 21:00

From both wheels, at the same time? I would say thats a bit more than 'just a part failure'

Wasn't both wheels at the same time. The super slow mo shows the right failed first and that cause the failure on the left

  • Jon Waldock18/04/2010 at 21:00

Because the modified parts were swapped with the original design

ah i didnt know it was different parts, that makes more sense, very scary though

  • Jon Waldock18/04/2010 at 21:00

No, apparently it was the right upright that failed, which overloaded the left one...

It's odd though, because we've seen one side fail or not have a wheel on before and it hasnt loaded it.

Very strange, i wonder if anyone stole the tyre

  • Steven Roy18/04/2010 at 21:01

It's very freakish - but you see that sometimes with wings and stuff I guess.

The only worrying part is the fact the parts were 'zero mileage' - it's a bit "Virgin" innit?

  • Bassano18/04/2010 at 21:02

It's odd though, because we've seen one side fail or not have a wheel on before and it hasnt loaded it.

In a big braking zone, the loads were very high

Very strange, i wonder if anyone stole the tyre

    Apparently, they recovered it

Drivers steer based on what they feel in a slide of any kind not on what they see. The fact there were no front wheels doesn't change that

    Yes.

  • Andy Taylor18/04/2010 at 21:10

Can the drivers even see the wheels these days?

They can when they are flying down the track ahead of the car.

Watching that slo-mo video frame by frame, the right side suspension fails just ahead of the left.

As they pointed out on 5 Live, when the right front failed, all the stress went to the left front which caused that to shatter under the load too.
