So... the weekly version of the daily post didn't work, and now we are back to some of the more fabulous regularly scheduled 24 hour posts. Instead of listening to me all day every day, we've got some guest writers lined up to take over the daily on various days. More information is available on the wiki, but for now, here are some things we're talking about:
- For my first daily back, I want to plug our good friend Alex, who is continuing to make us jealous over on GetJealous.com. After a short break working for some more pennies, Alex is back following the F1 circus around. Yesterday he tweeted that he went running after Buemi's wheel, and that is the kind of story I want to read about!
- It seems as though a certain Mr Eddie Jordan is stuck on the ground thanks to the Iceland volcano, and will therefore miss appearing on the BBC for the Chinese GP this weekend. I can already tell how happy this makes a lot of people, and I am supremely tempted to watch the BBC footage just because. Even though actually I will probably be asleep.
- Alex has been in a bit of a panic regarding SofaF1 as it had to be moved to a new home, but now that is all set up and working, don't forget to go along and pick your selection for the pole poll this weekend. I'm still intending to participate, and you don't want to be beaten by someone who's not even watching, do you?
That's all for today. I have missed writing these, and I'm glad we'll be back to daily threads from now on. Let us know what you're up to, and I'll see you in the comments.
New daily!
Woo hoo!
[confused]
Nice new shiny daily for the first time in ages
Daaaaaaaaailllllly!!!!!
*hugs* I've missed you.
:D
About what?
I guess about a daily spontaneously appearing in the middle of a weekly
iPlayer. If you are entering the realm of the casual fan, iPlayer is the way to go.
Ah yes. I can go back and change the name of the other one if that helps.
Having a Daily for a ... er, day :D
I don't think it matters but if you want to be really accurate I suppose you could
I guess having a weekly and the odd daily is fine
Might confuse the de-lurkers though
Woo hoo it loads on my phone!
It's daily from now on.
Hi Amy
What was the issue with the weekly, too big?
hola
That and more. Just didn't like it.
Buenas Dias ;)
Your rulez :)
It's a little odd reading about two Alex's in separate continents in the Daily Post
Hi
Oh yea! I should have called him Giggles.
How long before he's just known as DJ Giggles?
I'm hungry. Can someone please bring me some breakfast and remind me that I should stop volunteering to work Saturdays to get more Spa money?
I would get you donuts but I hear the queue is horrific
Oh man, the queue on a saturday is the stuff of nightmares.
But Spa money is good
Bring cereal to work, I eat far less crap by bringing stuff in
Spa money is good but not being at work is better. I normally have cereal in my desk but i've run out. Must take a trip to aldi on my break!
aldi? how does that business model work in australia?
..and is yours full of random German things as well?
you can't get stuff from germany to australia that quickly can you? the best before dates will expire in transit.
Aldi works here because the australian supermarket landscape is a duopoly and so prices are pretty high at the two main chains. Aldi stuff is not often german here, its normally made in australia or new zealand, but it is all the random "aldi only" brands.
It's weird that German goods are thought of as high quality, yet we have two German supermarkets at the budget end of the spectrum
ah-ha. so your aldi is like german aldi. whereas as ours is more like knocked-off german aldi leaftovers :)
Ah I see.
I'd have thought the two big chains would compete against each other until prices got low...
Australians are quite fannatical about their "Australian made, Australian owned" philosophy
I guess "Cheaper" wins everytime
I do like some of the Aldi or Lidl goods... they can be a bit hit and miss but when you get a good one it is very good.
The store layouts drive me mental. Also, like Asda, shopping at one becomes a bit like an episode of Gladiators
Evening everyone
I like cheaper. I get so excited when I see bags of pasta for 19c each. Aldi biscuits are really nice too.
Hey Joe!
Hi Joe
Maybe you get out more ;)
[Though don't spend any money]
What is the likelihood that Q3 will be streamed?
[insert] *should
Can't say the layout bothers me, the cheap feel of it does, and half the products being tat. We're getting a Lidl here soon. There's uproar in the local rag. :)
Very likely, they usually are
Someone having a link...
Sorry, I meant FP3
I figured you did
Bernie's a tool. On Indiia being added to the schedule next year:
When asked by AUTOSPORT if India would be an addition or replace an event, Ecclestone said: "We are not dropping anything. [It's] 20 races - getting ready for 25."
I hope so, stuck at work, nothing on TV and debating if I want to get up at 0200 to watch Qualy
I'll get out more in 127 days.
Have you seen the highlights from FP1?
You should look if you haven't
A lot!
I saw Buemi's car shedding wheels, very odd
He's joking, that's his humour..
yup. joking about people's livelihoods and people futures and people careers.
he's a tool.
Was he also joking when referring to China's empty stands and contract negotiations:
"We're happy with everything"?
He's just odd
The Chinese Gov't must be dumping tons of money on him
He does make me laugh sometimes when Martin catches him on the grid but he really has lost the plot lately
Undoubtedly
When the SpeedTV grid walker (formerly Peter Winsor, wonder what he's up to now?) corners him, he always shoves an American celebrity in front of the camera. Maybe that'll placate us at not having a race....I dunno
Not getting in the paddock
He, he. That's true
From the hero to zero in the blink of an eye
I should still get a USF1 t-shirt, I think there's a few on E-bay
They had tshirts? Maybe you could look for the toasters as well
They didn't, I think you could buy them from Singapore, obviously unliscensed.
Gonna watch some Family Guy, talk to you later
hehe. bye
Enjoy Joe
Catch'ya later

Are they putting pogo sticks in WRC cars now, or did it see a mouse?
I saw that on the front page
Brilliant shot
Hope they had a parashoot
I have to say I like this rally so far. I have 4 drivers in my fantasy team and they are running 1,2,3 and 4. No doubt it won't last.
Time I got some sleep before practise
Night Steven
damn almost finished editing joe. tis a good one, but it'll keep until you wake.
See ya later Steven
Does Steven get first dibs?
ha!
Always. Didn't you know?
#blamesteven
I think we're officially in the era of #blamefourstar now
ooooo, an iphone 3GS for sale. Should I buy it???
I just dont know!
Dang, I'm out of touch
Only if it's really cheap and you're not committing to a contract
4th Gen iPhone will be designed for OS 4.0 in mind
A lot faster and better able to handle the multi-tasking
Here by July [most likely]
So thats what I didn't know, if there is going to be a new hand set as well as OS.
Generally, every June
Hmmm. Decisions. No contract, but it's not really cheap.
I wouldn't buy any Apple product without looking here first:
http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
Wait till June, you'll be glad you did
i am.
Yep, fair enough. I can wait
For a phone too?
i think so
I went for a two-year contract instead of 18 months as I knew I'd be skipping this refresh cycle
5th Gen and LTE for me in 2011, hopefully
Plus, I'll get my Apple fix from the iPad soon
Right, well fair enough then.
I know I want one after my holiday, but I can wait for the new one
Yeah, well there is that too. As long as May doesnt become June or July
They've given a date for pre-orders now, plus, I think they have a clue as to the demand
Wow, Buemi's cousin broke her leg earlier in a big shunt at Yas Marina
Not a good day for that family
di resta is doing 5live comms for FP3?
http://twitter.com/clubforce/status/12313171836
Nice!
I think Steven must've put in a good word for him ;)
Yaaaaaay.
#nothere
:)
will people not let me boycott f1 in peace? now i want to hear him :(
it's 2am!
You need a freeview recorder/hdd or something
I may have got a bit distracted...
i could probably watch the replay on iplayer. but that isn't helping either.
i'm not avoiding f1 because i can't be arsed to staty up, am i?
You need to be careful or you might start caring again ;)
:)
With me, it's a 'can't be bothered to go to bed' :)
aside is uploading now
Wicked!
Tomorrow's journey sorted, ta
2 boxes of cereal, thats 25 serves, for $4.90. ahh, aldi.
12.5 per box?
i (heart) heikki after his mentalist fan youtube video!
?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbCirgMegHE
Ta
[looks now]
Does this guy have the most obsessive fans around?
[Yes Amy, I'm looking at you too ;)]
Two kinds, one has 14 serves one has 11. I love that Heikki video because it lets me know that as insane as I feel because I love his gorgeous girlfriend Catherine, there are people who will put her face in a jigsaw puzzle or on a rubiks cube.
I do love how Lotus are really reaching out to their fans who have given them a lot of love so far
why would anyone think he'd like that?
It's certainly unique
ummm.... why?
Former Super Aguri and Spyker driver Sakon Yamamoto has taken on a test and reserve role with the new Hispania team for the 2010 season.

Welcome back from the Land of the Dead, Sidepodcast!
I take it that the F1 podcast extreme diet did not go so well...... (Check Smarter Than Your Average for this reference)
I have been doing a little bit of F1 research while you have been gone, for my blog site. I have reason to believe that from at least 1984 to 1994 but I just want to be sure. If I am correct, I have a barn burner of a chapter to post on my blog as I use a previous seaon from F1 to show, as bad as this year is, we could have a hell of a lot worse.... (Like instances of the best two cars (From the same team) lapping the entire field...)
it's going really well. we were talking earlier how much happier were are now, will blog about it later this week. we're still dieting :)
Moderation really is the key to all good diets ;)
[Excuse the pun]
!! :)
I'm gonna try to catch some sleep before quali
Night
see ya
ohhhh boy... i thought he'd disappeared for good
quite.
That's it - I now officially declare the world to have ended. Anyone with any problems with that can contact Mary at the helpdesk and she will send out leaflets that will help you through the delights of the afterlife via HRT's merchandise stall

Ooh default thread has changed to yesterday. Sorry!
hehe. we need to fix that, it's in preparation for fp3 thread.
from williams:
We might even get to see our technical director Sam Michael tomorrow. Visa issues stopped him getting through customs yesterday (he is Australian after all), but a few calls to the right people in Shanghai seem to have sorted the situation.
where the hell has he been? just sitting in the airport all day?
Quite possibly, yeah
Sooo never going to China.
I don't think I could be too bothered at the moment...
i would be climbing the walls. the thought of it stresses me out.
It's why I hate airports
Yes, but you could sit in front of a chair and I do not know, update 8 blog sites on the side to keep you busy....
:)
or even start a new blog site or two.......
Things are obviously back to normal in Sidepodcastland.....
I just don't see the point in giving tourism dollars to a country that seems to make it as hard as possible for tourists to actually get in!
talking about USA :-) ?
#WRC
Ogier was flying on day one
Day two begins soonish.
Morning...
Can't wait for 7.54....
And I hear something else is going on too....
WRC Radio is on...
Almost time for the real men to get to work....
Talking about Ogier winning rallies this year....
Lots more podiums to come....
Tyre news....
Citroen are scuffed fronts and new rears...
Mikko new and Jari Matti scuffed all round...
They start on tarmac....
Ogier, Sordo, Mikko and Petter on the road....
They aren't sure about Kimi's tyres....
Ogier's tyres not too bad.....
News coming through....
Latvala stopped
Someone has stopped on the stage....
Poor Jari Matti has stopped....
JM has rolled....
Car upside down but all OK... spectators trying to get car back on the road....
Citroen have to change tyres before the next rougher stage...
JM trying to get going....
Kimi on the road....
JM moving... probably will get in Kimi's way.... then I will not be happy....
Solberg is fastest.... on new tyres....
Phew....
Kimi in front of JM....
Kimi should be in next....
WOW....
Kimi up a place over Villagra...
Kimi also on scuffed fronts...
He'll also now be in front of Jari Matti....
He's 6th!!....
Goodness i'm tired this morning..
Whoops wrong thread...
Kimi faster than JM really struggling with his car... and Villagra but not Wilson in SS11....
Still 6th....
wow that's impressive...
that might sound sarcastic.. it wasnt meant to be, i love that Kimi appears to be doing well in Rally :)
wow... i think JB is getting Jessica into triathlons too...
http://blog.honeyee.com/jessica/archives/2010/04/11/post-342.html
I am heading out for the day so will see you all this evening.
#sidepodspace
The shuttle will undock from the ISS at 1:52pm UK time today. After they drift far enough apart the shuttle will do a flyaround of the ISS. This can produce some of the best pictures of the mission
bye steven, have a nice day!
Thanks lou...
I was pleased for Jense last year too....
SS12 has started and Kimi is on the road... (I keep nearly saying track!!)....
Petter had saved his new tyres for the final stage.... and there is now talk that the final stage may be cancelled....
Petter won't be happy if that's the case....
Oooo....
Rain is starting... and the first part of the next stage is tarmac...
Kimi faster than Villagra on SS12... currently 6th on the stage and still 6th overall....
In the opening sector (on tarmac) of SS13 Kimi was fastest... faster than all the others ... by the next split he'd dropped back a bit but still very good... fingers crossed...
Sordo just finished with tyres completely shot...
Yuck...
Looks like JM will be getting in the way of Kimi on this stage....
But he got past and hurrah...
He was 6th on the stage and 6th overall....
He didn't talk.... now there's a surprise...
Jari Matti in and they are making the point that he won't be looking forward to getting back to service and getting a b********* from Mr Wilson....
I'm not sure Jaime knows what fatal means.
christ that looks like the dullest qually lineup of all time.
oh.my.god!
Of course...
:D
he killed her off!
ALL MY BEST WISHES WITH NATACHA GACHNANG AFTER SUFFERING A FATAL CRASH IN ABU DHABI
i need to ask jaime how he thinks ringo is doing these days...
you don't even have the benefit of being a non-native speaker!
ahh, shoot. i wonder how many points you lose by killing off your teammates cousin?
I would give him a million points for it because it made me laugh. I would also give Heikki a million points for his dance on the pit wall. I notice from a twitter search people are saying he is correct because fatal means "terrible" in spanish, but considering the rest of his tweet is in english I don't think that quite works :D
he danced?
he was all smiley and appeared to be dancing but may have just been demonstrating something with his hands. DC said he appeared to have taken happy pills, then the BBC managed to set it in synch with the music in their post-qualy-montage :D
how was non-eddievision?
they tried to talk to him on the phone twice, the first time he appeared to hang up on them, and the second time there was so much static you couldn't hear him. It was brilliant.
crap, i forgot sofaf1. again.
we forgot sofaf1 :(
wow! heheh.
we talked to joe, just fine...
How is Joe planning to get home?....
hehe morning mr c, erm... well.... the best thing about it was listening to Crofty and Ant discuss at the end of Q2 what the difference between Schumi and Rubens would have been on track... But Steven thinks Whitmarsh let slip that Mclaren have a wet set up for tomorrow (i wasn't listening... as usual)
me too :( i realised 7mins after quali started :(
your picks will roll over though, so unless you wanted to change them lots you'll be OK :)
*prays Jenson wins*
That's tantamount to praying that the Red Bull doesn't finish....
well.. it's gonna rain.... so... there are a whole heap of things that stop the red bull finishing...
Holly Samos on radio one now.
I was in the main grandstand opposite the Toro Rosso garage in Shanghai in 2007...
Apart from the Kimi victory and Lewis destroying his tyres the thing I remember most was the Toro Rosso guys leaping up and down and jumping into each others arms when Seb got a 4th in damp and miserable conditions....
The Red Bull garage was deserted... they were 8th and 10th... even Liuzzi in the Toro Rosso was 6th....
awww Holly talking about her being stuck in china away from her little baby. considering going 'the other way round the world' home.
It seems like everyone's going to head to the airport tomorrow and see what happens... so i sense there may be a couple of bored F1 people on the internet tomorrow :D
and by internet i mean twitter
Morning all.
morning
tis okay
I watched quali on delayed record... My favourite thing was ted giving the microphone to Domenicali to interview Witmarsh and Horner about the ride height thing. Very funny...
Mamma Mia!
I want him to replace EJ permanently.
ooh, i wanna see that!
why?
*hearts*
Interesting that lots of drivers were so interested in the mclarens...

she was chatting to Vernon Kay about Quali, but they had a discussion about being stranded in China, he was trying to plan a holiday for her, but she just wants to get home to see her baby :)
hehehe that was awesome! :) I also want more f1 drivers to play table tennis, seb is kinda funny.
Q: (Carlos Miquel – Diario AS) I have a question for all the drivers about the volcano; are you worried about getting back to Europe?
FA: No worries, I hope to get back to Europe normally.
SV: I will rent a car and drive back.
MW: Yeah, I’m in the same car as Seb, we’re going back together. Or I go to Australia, I keep going this way.
FA: You swim.
MW: I keep going this way.
SV: One stop.
MW: I can keep going that way.
FA: You can swim.
I like when drivers aren't quite so serious :D
We live to serve :)
i'd go on holiday too. she can video conference the child from there :)
he said in the podcast, so i can't spoil it :)
Seb plays badminton with Kimi... not sure about table tennis...
Guess who wins....
:D hehehe
:D
off to watch lost, will catch up with qually highlights in an hour.
:( she seemed really sad about not being able to get back, Vernon was suggesting places she could go but she didn't seem willing to go to any of them lol
see ya!

:)
I just caught up with the daily... I keep getting thrown by the other Alex's. It must be even more confusing for people who aren't me :) But on the other hand it does make me seem an all pervasive force in F1 :)
Pancake day is here :D
Aside from an unfortunate incident with some olive oil, all is well :D
you mean... you didn't live stream it??!
I burned my dinner. I have scraped off all the black but it still tastes like burnt :(
Errrrrm....
the making of pancakes i mean :(
Is this the U.A.E. version in England?
Afternoon all
Everyone's favourite resident of the UAE is still stuck here and moaning about it. I did take advantage and have him make me some pancakes though :D
Apologies for the lack of streamage. It was a bit too unpredictable to risk.
It's not really good form to be moaning about not being able to leave your girlfriend
You've met her... :P
:)

Ok, time I went to see how many aircraft are out of position today
Later!
byee!
If you need to move one to dubai or AD let me know!
Yes...
Of course I'd have the pancakes first and then turn you out...
catching up on the daily: You were discussing Aldi?!?
Rally restarts in 30 seconds...
There is a lot of discussion on Rally radio about not getting home....
Hello Saturday.
Hi Christine
Ogier and Sordo on the road...
amy has one :)
Hi Christine...
They built a new aldi in our town and they had the same layout as usual but MIRRORED!! It made me dizzy :)
I don't :( only Lidl.
Slower than earlier in the day but it's been raining and the first bit is asphalt....
Apparently a funeral in the village just below where the stage ends....
It's so handily located next door to my office! and its only a wee one so not big enough to confuse me inside :D
WOOOO
ahhhh <3 it fits the music so perfectly.
Mr Loeb is flying and...
Kimi has started....
Phew...
Kimi finished SS14 and beat Villagra again and Wilson so keeping his 6th place...
He's up to sixth now? Ace!
LOVE IT!
:)
ace dancing
SS15 now on the go...
what the heck is "made with china"?
crockery?
THANKYOU.
I think they are trying to say they work in partnership....
because I am awesome, here it is in a never ending loop. :D :D
Seb Ogier has stopped not far from the finish of the stage...
:D
Nooo, not Oggi.
That is sooo funny...
I am trying to rectify the fact that my tennisgifs folder has 45 I have made and my f1gifs only has 5, and they are all from about 3 years ago. Perhaps the problem is I have nowhere to actually use my F1 ones :D
Sorry... but he has got going again...
Is this to do with the stupid, I don't want to be 1st on stage, thingy again?
the bbc voiceover guy is killing me, he just said:
"...jonathan legard and martin brundle talk you through the action"
and i whooped out loud... at legard! how bad can a person be?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8627029.stm
It is very difficult to boycott F1 when you are on the other side of the room watching quali highlights and whooping.
I bet he's like 'Oh, F1. But you promised I'd be doing football.'
:)
No because Citroen will want him to be just in front of Loeb tomorrow...
He actually stopped and we don't know why yet... he lost over 3 minutes...
Also the stewards have said that any tactics will be penalised under the "bringing the sport into disrepute" rules....
oops
Follow the rally Christine...
Mikko has just woken up and posted a decent time on SS15 just a tenth better than Loeb... he needs to keep that up and get better otherwise it'll be between Loeb and Petter.... although that's better than Loeb and Loeb....
Kimi on the stage and up to the second split...
Oh....
I have a nasty feeling... Kimi's times not coming up...
just a live-timing glitch
Phew...
It was the timing not Kimi...
He's back and although he's faster than Villagra Wilson made up a little but not much....
Kimi still 6th...
Ogier is fifth now after having to change a tyre.
Thanks Kathi...
It brought back memories of Free Practice at Monza in 2007...
have now caught up with qually. still undecided about following the race live. if it's wet it'll be worth getting up for.
:)
as I said earlier best bit of quali. Bit of a worry for F1 if the non cars going round bit was my fav bit.
Awwwwwww!
it was my favourite bit too, and i watched the highlights.
The sky is really weird today. It's totally clear. No clouds and no vapour trails. Quite disconcerting for this Londoner.
we have a few clouds here... i'll try send them in the direction of london ;)
http://yfrog.com/f17ecj
Looks lovely.
i like it. more ash please.
oh it's certainly lovely :)
I am very worried about my flight on Wednesday.
On the other hand sitting in the garden with a bottle of Sol (other beers are available) it's hard to care about much :)
SS16 has started....
Rally radio has just read out a message from a listener in Guatemala...
Has just started listening/ following this year... guess why...
where are you going?
Naples
let's hope vesuvious doesn't get any ideas!
*is really really jealous*
#sorrylou
still doable though, even if more hassle, right? at least you can physically get there by land.
Tis okay, have a lovely time, my friend just came back from Italy and she said Naples was lovely last week. #hopingkattakeslotsofpics
it's possible. Apparently ferries / eurostar are all fully booked
ahh, bugger. what happens if fourstar doesn't make it back before you leave?
that's another problem too. We could managed for a day but we'd have to be sure it was a day.
Also we don't have a car and Kat can't drive so I would have to do a lot of driving.
so I'm kind of not worrying about it too much :) what happens happens as they say.
Kimi has started....
true. really it's more weight to our argument of not planning anything
once I get my license sorted on Thursday I am tempted to do an Alex and use the flexicars from time to time. Although I don't have an iPhone to unlock doors with.
that's just reminded me of the Douglas Adams quote:
indeed. We arranged this and booked it only two weeks ago which is pretty minimal for travelling abroad.
but who do you blame?
it's a very good system.
bugger. i have no answer to that :)
you could do it later i guess, but two weeks is acceptable to me.
I don't blame anyone I don't think :)
I actually got my holiday time from work signed off on the day before the volcano. Katherine had already booked the flights.
It's just one of those things I guess.
you have to question the intellegence of a company calling a product the:
F1™ King Watch
I just need to work out if I really need to do enough driving to justify the absolute minimum cost, considering I've survived two years without driving here at all, I'm not sure that I would.
Wow!
Named after Bernie...
Phew...
You've guessed it... Kimi at the end of SS16... only one to go...
Extended his lead by a small margin on Villagra... so still 6th...
quote from f1.com:
The F1™ King Power has been created to epitomise the cutting-edge technology.
amazing.
I think they're 17 days late with that one.
isn't he the F1™ King Hole?
Mr C, you be careful please.
sorry. but it is clean.
Hello folks. :) Quali was awesome!
Oh, and Mercedes' guest driver today after Nick Heidfeld yesterday? It was... Bernd Maylander! *facepalm*
I did get a lovely Ferrari laptop bag, though. Very 'appy with it. :)
wha? hey chap.
From Mercedes?...
Hey Journeyer
was this what you wanted someone to grab
- http://drop.io/chinagp2010/asset/quali-outro-mpg
I'll try do the same for the race tomorrow
The final stage of the day is about to start... fingers crossed...
:D No. From the Ferrari store just outside the paddock gate. Chock-full of AWESOME stuff. It's a vendor authorized by the circuit, so I know it's legit.
bizarre. not a single Mercedes race driver in sight. Not from MGP, not from Macca, not even from FI. sunday morning is their last chance to get a race driver. but given that my parents want to do some shopping before my dad and i go to SIC, i've pretty much given up on my chances for a Schumi autograph.
It is always better live....
So Amy is Wellington a good region of NZ or one of your rivals?
YES! :D Please do the same for the race too. That's the one I really collect.
Thanks! Or as we say in Shanghai: Xie xie, Lou!
ahh, boo :(
I love Wellington, my brother lives there and if I went home I'd live there too :)
Sad, I know. But there ya go. If I'm lucky and Schumi's form improves, there's always Australia next year... :)
ah good I have a wellingtonian appearing on my show tomorrow and I didn't want to get in trouble. (by this I mean a track by one - not as a guest)
I am so going to overun tomorrow by the way :)
after today's efforts, i honestly do not see that happening.
ooooooh now I am curious.
I neither see, nor hope it happens. #sorryJourneyer
i can't wait for your show tomorrow alex, giggles radio has become a perfect addition to my weekend :)
ummm.... why?
Former Super Aguri and Spyker driver Sakon Yamamoto has taken on a test and reserve role with the new Hispania team for the 2010 season. {Comment #120}
Money (like Bassano said)?
awww thanks :)
today was just... sad. 9th when your not-so-highly-rated teammate is 4th isn't good.
straw poll: do you think Rosberg is actually performing better than that car should, or do you think Schumi isn't getting the best out of that car?
if his form stays this way, i'd rather he not stick around as well. but if he stays as a Merc consultant (which i think is very likely), he might still visit the Oz paddock next season. :)
Morning from he land of sun-dried tundra everyone....
So does anyone know when F1 went to having a ban on refueling that ended in 1994? I would like to say it was in 1983, but I am not sure....
Just wondering as a have about 15 blog stories riding on the outcome......
http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=3329&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_term=#F1
The above shows that not only is Schumi lower on the grid, but over 7 tenths slower than Nico.
And Seb V. is really very scary when it comes to getting out a fast lap.
And... rain tomorrow? There hasn't been any sign of rain today. I'm guessing it's not too likely we'll get rain tomorrow, unless the strong winds today are pulling in some rain clouds from the Pacific.
And I've been wrong before. :)
Btw ans to your poll is both. I think Nico is doing better than he should and Schumi... :P
He was around at Ferrari all the time over the last few years...
His form right now... is terrifyingly good. But will his car stay in 1 piece tomorrow? The cooler than usual temps have helped them, I'm sure, but the rain throws in another unknown variable. But then, they did score their first win here last year in a rainstorm...
Kimi is on the stage...
Got to the second split...
the in car made it look like Schumacher was out for a Sunday drive.
However they are going to totally change the car to Schumacher's taste for the next race. I think this will put Nico behind him but won't make Schumacher faster.
IIRC, it was at the end of 1983, effective 1984. No Wikipedia here, though, so can't verify.
This would be soooo wrong....
I will boo him personally if that happens...
Given Nico's gap right now, I'm not even sure that's a given. And I'm not sure Ross will completely move the car to Schumi's taste, as well, given how well Nico has gone. I don't think he'd want to endanger Nico's good run so far.
FA: You can swim. {Comment #226}
This is comedy gold - how does Fernando not know Mark can swim? :D
The latter I am afraid...
There's an old country song about this... I shall have to think....
I have always had doubts about Michael Schuamcher's abilities since Irvien was beating him fair and square to about a third of the way into the season when Schuamcher broke his leg at Silverstone.... Irvine was leading on 36 points and Schumacher had 30 if I am not msitaken....
Too bad that Hakkinen won the Driver's..... I would have loved to have Irvine end Ferrari's dought from 1979!
straw poll: do you think Rosberg is actually performing better than that car should, or do you think Schumi isn't getting the best out of that car? {Comment #364}
Can I vote both about equally?
Petter has a problem... but seems happy enough...
Someone will have to verify this, but I think Schumi was ahead of Irvine on points by Silverstone. He definitely had more wins - he won at San Marino and Monaco, while Irvine only won at Australia.
Loeb is going to be first on the road tomorrow... assuming no funny stuff... he's only 16 secs ahead...
Loeb, Solberg, Hirvonen....
Sure, why not? ;)
Someone will have to verify this, Journeyer is saying the same thing as Wikipedia, so I can not exactly use it in a Sidepodcastland Court of Law..... :P
I is watching tennis. I is scared of seeing Flav.
Which match?
Verdasco v Djokovic. I'm so torn, I love them both!
Eddie ahead for the first two races and then caught back up at Silverstone... at the end of the British weekend they were level...
Same! Damn... But I'll side with Fernando more.
Kimi talks....
I think I am too, just because I'd love to see him in a masters final. And I do love me some Verdasco/Nadal matches. Although, I do think Nadal will slaughter him. Then again, I said the same thing at the Australian Open last year.
What does he say?
Someone will have to verify this, but I think Schumi was ahead of Irvine on points by Silverstone. He definitely had more wins - he won at San Marino and Monaco, while Irvine only won at Australia. {Comment #382
Irvine 10-12-12-20-24-30-31
Schu 0-6-16-26-30-30-32
Irvine started the season ahead and remained there until San Marino (race 3). However, Irvine caught him again at Canada (race 6) and Michael was just starting to break ahead when he crashed at Silverstone. So Michael was ahead but Eddie gave him a run for his money.
:D
A great day for Kimi...
A little problem this morning apparently...
Ends the day 6th!!!!....
Hurrah...
I couldn't understand him :)
I think this happened because Schumi had 2 straight DNFs at Canada and France. Assuming he didn't break his leg at Silverstone, that would've been 3 DNFs in a row headed to Germany. Given how well Salo did there, I think Schumi would've won at a canter, and gone on to win the title again.
Ultimately, it's hard to judge one way or the other.
XD.
6th for a rookie is really good.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/michael-schumacher/7595204/Chinese-Grand-Prix-Michael-Schumacher-bullish-about-chances-on-Shanghai-track.html
This story is just sad. Poor girl... :(
But yeah, a LOT of Schumi fans around. They were wearing his old Ferrari kit on Friday. By Saturday, they were already wearing his new Merc kit. ;)
http://en.espnf1.com/china/motorsport/image/14685.html?cmp=viral_image
So he DID sign autographs, but this wasn't organized by the circuit. It seems this happened on Friday - probably at the fence beside the main grandstand.
I would've gone there... had I known it was going on. Sigh. :(
#WRC

8. Matthew Wilson Ford +6.16,6
...
xx. J-M. Latvala Ford +19.14,2
xx Henning Solberg
xx Ken Block
Block went off again on the last stage today
He mentioned that it was OK but he lost some time on one of the morning stages... because of the engine noise it was difficult to catch it all...
I think it was more his mumbling
Poor Ken...
He rather banzais along and either does really well... or not....
99% of your autograph chances will not be at anything officially organised.
Nooooo....
Absolutely correct...
You need to spot where they'll be when for the best opportunities....
Amy can give you stalking lessons...
That's true, but then, my family's with me, so I don't exactly have the freedom to move around... :(
Totally agree. Plus you might actually get to talk to them.
ah yes, that was my problem last year! That is why when people say "I want to go but I don't have anyone to go with" I say "go alone! it's awesome!"
Block stuck on a bank...
Not with that crowd, no. ;)
And if Sepang and Singapore and Melbourne could organize them, why not Shanghai? Sigh.
Absolutely spot on....
Or go with Amy. :P =)) You may be my excuse to get to move around if we push through with Melbourne next year. ;)
best idea is to go with non-F1-liking fam to divide accommodation cost, then leave them to shop while you F1. :D
Have a camera too as it legitimises your presence quite well....
Anyway, off to bed. Raceday tomorrow - will we actually see rain? :-/
Night, folks. :)
heheh it's odd considering how many people we saw and spoke to this year that last year I saw none at all!
Chinese are particularly enthusiastic it seems.
Night.
Only second to the Japanese, IMHO. :)
And the Brazilians...
They are mental about F1....
I think Novak needs a second badly right about now.
the jigsaw tells me so.
I forsee epic Spanish finale tomorrow. Om nom nom.
The rally radio guys are talking about getting home and getting the cars to New Zealand..
Apparently there is a big backlog of air freight... I hadn't thought of that...
For half a second I was worried about my parents getting here on Wednesday, then I remembered you don't have to go via Europe to get from NZ to Aus :D
I demand an improved clay-court version of AO '09!
Well they could but I wouldn't recommend it....
I am pretty sure they'll find a way. After all, the world is round.
going to two finals this year and seeing my two favourites win was pretty epic, but Nando getting a masters would make this the most epic tennis year for Amy ever. And then Roger needs to defend the French, ha!
Well, I have to walk the dog and after that I have a few things to do so I will hopefully see everyone around for Radio Giggles....
Jordan F1 Out.
I really rather he gave it back to its rightful owner... :P
WOOOOO VAMOS
he can have it in 2011. I wanna witness a proper Grand Slam!
Hiya
hello
afternoon folks
finally got some sleep and am nice and fresh
:)
So I watched quali in bed on the netbook, in a sleepy daze, luckily got the online feed going just as the Q1 green light lit, then fell asleep within minutes of the Q3 flag. I thought I'd slept for an hour or so after, it turned out to be quite a bit more.. went for a walk in town, nice and sunny, found I had a parking ticket, bought sunglasses.. Nice day.
Here is my summary:
Q1: by the numbers, no surprises
Q2: don't remember
Q3: Expected McLaren to get 2 top threes... looks like RB might walk away with it tomorrow. Schumi 9th. Heh.
Rafe could give you that.... next year....
Everyone is talking about the tires. 'Will it/won't it rain tomorrow?' I think that is the major thing, and Toro Rosso may get into the points because they actually tried both set-ups and still managed to get 12th/13th.
Hmmm...
Odd little accident in IndyLights practice at Long Beach - Miller went off in turn 3 hitting the tyre barrier; then about 6 seconds, later Strous went too hot into the same turn and hits the tyre barrier at virtually the same spot, putting to two drivers side-by-side.
Lucky it wasn't one on top of the other then...
It's snowing again
snowing? gosh.. it couldn't be any different here.. we have clear blue skies... it's kinda warm too :)
Lovely. Wishing I had an excuse to go out. Golf tomorrow, trying a new (for us) course..
GT1 at Abu Dhabi is live right now, 10 mins left.
Race 1 of 2, 2nd is tomorrow
http://gt1world.com/gt1tv
Romain Grosjean leads
Bright lights! XD
Afternoon everyone.
Not terribly impressed with the morning's action, but here's my blog post about qualifying anyway: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/04/17/shanghai-qualifying-analysis/
Apparently this is in fact race 2.
Aaaahhhhhh the absolutely wonderful Ben Edwards
:D
Romain wins!!!!! :)
Good for Romain
:)
In other news, IRL practice from Long Beach begin on indycar.com in about 30 minutes
But that clashes with Dr Who.
#secretlywatchesdrwho
What time does Dr who start?
Awwww crap - completely forgot.
Sure, I'll catch the practice later on.
6.30
It's 6.15 I think - I'll still catch the last half hour of the session
Its only practice
iPlayer it is then.
eek. GT1 feed cut off before Romain got his hands on the trophy...
was stefanano the best bit for you too?
The ambush interview bit with Whitmarsh and Horner? Yeah it was. Not impressed with BBC's insistence on having Eddie Jordan though!
that's kinda cool
...and that crackling phone line that kept cutting out
fyi for fans of other motorsport:
American Le Mans is at 12.40am (UK) tonight;
IndyCar is at 9.30pm tomorrow;
both at Long Beach
cooler temps must help ferrari more than anyone, no?
Guys,
Hope you enjoyed Qualifying today. I have to tell you about the awesome team building event we did yesterday – we did the usual stuff but I got to try off roading and we took part in a Le Mans-style 2h24min karting race, which I started for my team and they gave me half an hour!
It was so intense starting the race – once you are strapped in and the visor goes down, you really get tunnel vision and have to really focus to concentrate. I got a good start but it was really physical – great fun and a lot more intense than any simulator can provide!
After my stint finished I did a driver change in the pits, then later on we had to refuel the kart and change the front tyres.
It was really great fun and well worth a go – I think I ticked four things off my bucket list yesterday :D
I would love to know what caused McLaren's drop off in pace in Q3. I don't think it's just tyres eh!
Not secretly. Proudly!
That sounds awesome! What place did you come?
didn't see it, but i said earlier, we talked to joe in china just fine.
:D
It was extremely funny that just as he got going it cut out. You would think BBC would have set up an ISDN line or something a bit more secure!
Now that sounds like a fantastic day! Blog post?
We were fourth I think. Lots of fun though!
I have to wait until mid-May because I'm not supposed to talk about the event yet - the other half of the company haven't done the activities yet ;)
Hey, Gavin, I put you down for Wednesday daily posts, which means writing on a Tuesday night - is that okay?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Daily+Post+Guest+Writers
It shouldn't be a problem :)
Fabulous.
And I'm happy to be asked to swap days if people have to for various reasons too.
That's good, thanks Gavin. I figure it's all very flexible really. I'm there as backup always, and I've signed up for the weekend posts, but if anyone else wants to do a one-off or anything I can easily step back. It's all good :)
One woman, camped determinedly outside the Mercedes garage with a banner bearing the legend "YOU BACK WE BACK", was found not to have the correct pass and dragged away by security in floods of tears just at the point the great man emerged.
well done f1.
I am so happy that people actually say Mamma Mia.
I think I saw a photo of her somewhere...
I wouldn't mind a one-off from time to time, just can't think of anything to say just yet...
me too.
I got an 'ay ay ay' in Spain!
It's rather a mild curse - in my family they tend to overlook it for stronger words!
Next time you've got something to plug, just say the word :)
In.Sane.
you would have to assume they did it on purpose.
Did anyone else here during the epic Ping Pong battle between Jake and Seb think that Vettel looks like Maggie from Extras?
Ok ta :)
Hmm China using hired goons to drag away an innocent person? Whodathunit?
By the way Mrs C, got your email earlier, all is good for now :)
Found it. http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13248831
Goodo.
Woooo Doctor Who!
Also here: http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/e/c/9/5/F1_GP_of_8d0e.jpg
Woo!
Lukeh, check this pic of Rubens:
http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/f/7/8/f/F1_GP_of_6851.jpg
oops
I didn't know the WRC
hashad a safety car too. They use it as a road sweeper - it drives the stage before the first car does...
Does Steven watch? He got a 'you rang?' :)
Yes I know that, I just didn't know it is called safety car.
XD I wonder if the drivers might actually feel safer without one?
They should rename that one the 'Ironic Car' :D
Off for dinner - later guys ;)
Pat, Gavin and who else might be around, do you want to have the 'cancellation fund' the camping site is offering? it's €40
Is that "just in case" or did I miss something?
yes just in case. sorry.
Phew! I'll stop panicing now! :)
I think I shouldn't organise this. I seem to give people heart-attacks all the time :D
I'm not sure..
I think Mark Gattiss may have overdosed on "Power of the Daleks" and Star Wars
hehe!
you know since you are here and we are talking about it already: Should I pack the stuff I have for you or rather not? Yes I am packing now, no I am not completely crazy, I will fly to Spa directly from my summer job to which I leave soon ... ish.
*dives for cover*
you have stuff for us?
*takes a deep breath*
...
packing now??
Nothing special, just foreign country stuff. As a tiny thank you for making F1 and my sleepless nights much less boring
Amy would understand!!
ooh. is this a sneaky attempt to get us to plan now? please do bring stuff, even if we just turn up in belgium for a holiday and miss the racing, we wouldn't want to miss the trip!
Where is your summer job?
I was going to say in the Downshift thread, you should come anyway. It is a lot of money to spend on not liking F1 but you should come for the social stuff and to see F1 cars going through Eau Rouge.
IRL:
Unsurprisingly, Milka Duno is currently last of the runners - some 11 seconds slower than the fastest. That's her genuine pace by the way....
it's too much money to give bernie for providing zero entertainment though. just on principle we shouldn't go. just like i want to turn up to monaco on the only day there's no racing :)
yay for you coming (even if you don't go for the f1) it wouldn't be the same without you both.
I'll tell you when I'm there. Not a second before. I don't want to jinx it, with all those flights being cancelled at the moment.
it is awesome?
sounds fair enough, they'll be evenings and things to meet up. Belgium is a lovely place anyway :)
Get a Friday ticket?
Ok :)
:P
'k. Don't expect too much. :)
for monaco? there's no racing on friday. we just want to hang out on a boat with joe :)
oooo sounds exciting!
Spa..
There is racing in Monaco on Friday - GP2 qualifying I think
for me yes. Not sure if you would like it though.
how is getting a friday ticket for spa, not paying bernie?
ah-ha. town planner?
:)
You don't like town planners?
didn't you get into Silverstone on friday last year for free?
planning!
ha no. The job is not awesome (cleaning, kitchen help this sort of thing). Just the location is.
oooh, blagging free tickets would work. i day exploring belgium sounds more fun right now though.
you could blag free tickets for the friday and explore belgium on the weekend?
also appealing. we shall see. either way assume we'll be around. even if we choose to sit in a spa... in spa.
Its getting to watch F1 cars at the best track in F1 without paying ridiculous Sat/Sun prices (go and do something else those days).
i think you may be underestimating our dislike of current f1 cars right about now :)
i do like the idea of walking the spa track however.
A post about that DW episode: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/17/victory-of-the-daleks/
Says the man who keeps watching highlights all the time.
bah!
You can walk ON it after the race....
can you not walk on it on thursday?
omg i missed dr who..
Oops! Don't read that yet then :)
It's already up on the iPlayer to watch again though. I was surprised how quick it went up.
You can't keep away :)
hehe i wont.. can't believe i forgot. i blame lukeh for not being around to remind me ;)
BAH!
;)
Oooh good, can go from one great thing to another.
#blameEJ?
ooh, i haven't watched the coverage without him. did fernandes not step in?
it was just Jake and DC.
was DC more annoying, or less annoying?
he was okay, i didn't find him annoying. Seemed to work well with the two of them.. Jake asking questions and starting discussion points, while DC gave a drivers perspective. Crofty did the press conference again and left Ant in the comms box. Hehehe Ant's like a professional :D
i'm just gonna have to watch tomorrow. too many questions :(
you could just watch the bbc build up and not the race?...
Can I recommend having it on in the background as audio wallpaper? If I sit down and listen intently to the BBC pre and post race I get quite annoyed by it, but if it is 'just on' and I only catch a few bits it tends to be more interesting..
that would be the complete reverse of the past 12 months! :)
i think if it rains it'll be a good one, shall set the alarm.
well.. change can be good?... ;)
hehe at least you know if it's dull you can just turn it off and go to sleep...
Do not wake me up or I will poke you in the eye.
:D
:D
:D
that sounds painful!
"f1, better than a poke in the eye"
New tagline! :)
corrected?
:)
yikes!
tis only cause i hate the Chinese GP...
i feel bad that i was once impressed by malaysia and china circuits.
Lukeh's just blogged about the new doctor who episode http://wibblywobbly.wordpress.com/2010/04/17/victory-of-the-daleks-plunger-and-a-whisk/
#pluggingforotherpeople
assumed he was at work. is he lurking?
remember that tweet you sent about mother nature wanting her land back?... well i think she must be our side given the reason EJ can't get to china ;)
oooh!
am wondering what's going to happen before Abu Dhabi...
I was impressed by Malaysia. Not China, apart from the massive building.
powercut
his shift finished at 5 i think.. haven't heard from him all day. i suppose he must be. *waves to dr who and muse obsessed Welshmen*
Are rally drivers allowed in Christine's ranking? Because I think Dani Sordo deserves at least one point for this.
a paddock on stilts? c'mon.
Shanghai was great....
The main grandstand awesome.. the back straight exciting...
Only problem was the mozzies round those pagoda things at the back...
There are many worse tracks...
that would be awful! no hotel changing colour
to go to, yes.
but on telly?
hehe. i likes impressed kimi :)
christine wouldn't dare suggest it possible to rank drivers from two discreet motorsport series, surely?
The Iceman smiles.
Today I even found the Qualifying less than engaging. I sincerely hope it's not because there was no EJ :-s
I don't care about the paddock. It could be hovering for all I care.
I could set him up his own rankings series though :)
christine's rally rankings?
i got excited that JB was 2nd for about 20 seconds.. that was exciting as it got..
Number 1 in a field of 1? Mind you with Christine's rankings it'd be possible not to manage even that.
I got annoyed that MSC beat BAR into 11th and then was glad that he yet again failed to go faster than his team mate :D
I think you are talking about the handstand...
The guy who did that was wearing Seb Loeb's tracksuit and as Seb was an international gymnast....
erm yes, that's whom I meant. It's late I should go to bed :)
wow.. i actually enjoyed that episode of Dr Who...
So you are up early.... for the rally...
Night Kathi....
Evening
LO
shoot, caps fail
You are VERY EXCITED to see Lukeh, clearly. :)
Hello! :) good day at work?
Hi
evening lukeh!
naw :( i kinda half fainted, like my legs went all jelly, when i got in from work so i layed down to watch dr who when my brother helped me, then I typed up my blog post (which is probably awful) and fell back asleep. It's been a shattering afternoon to say the least... and i apologise if that's really sympoathy seeking..
Am feeling better now, yay
Doctor Who was very good though luckily :)
and you didn't tell me?!! not that i can do anything from kent but that doesn't sound very nice at all..
*phew* was the lift fixed today?
Evening everyone,
How are you all? Quite waiting for IndyLights qualifying at Long Beach right here.
:)
Watching it again on iplayer. Love the dalek carrying the folder along the corridor!
I had to check on the iPlayer to see if a Dalek was geniunely asking people if they wanted a cup of tea...
I heart the Jammy Dodger!
christine's in charge of audio this afternoon. she's playing her own record.
Nooooo. I took it out the playlist now.
:(
Nah... long story not worth going into. Angry supervisors are angry. It would be fair to say I can't be bothered/don't care enough to get involved with them :)
what time does it start?
3 minutes
Actually scratch that, cars are rolling on track now
i don't care if the supervisors are angry.. you shouldn't be made to carry heavy boxes up stairs when the lift should be fixed :( you could get a really bad back :(
#issadcauseshecares
ooh, in the indycar race control?
Yep
am on it it.
IndyLights:
One minute in and already an accident...
Also I would be lying if I said I wasn't concered about the race tomorrow. How likely is it that its going to rain?
it was either Vettel or Alonso that said it's a matter of when it rains not if...
They're saying 60-70% prior to race start. Unsure of in-race rain though
Don't forget they all said that on Malaysia race day...
you'd be joining a growing crowd i believe.
Awesome!
Not so much awesome... *shakes fist at general world climate being unpredictable*
ssshhhhhhhhhh i need motivation to get up and watch it in the morning. plus... mother nature is on our side this weekend ;)
all true.
I've just realised Schumacher qualified 9th too. I find his lack of pace disturbing.
#isitralf
I will be up and about looking after my gees and keeping an eye on Mr Raikkonen's results.....
They expected rain in Turkey too.... they got a bit today but not a lot....
Not nearly as much as he does....
corrected for you ;)
Thank you so much. :)
You are very welcome....
Are you a long time Kimi fan?...
Do you follow anyone else?.....
Whatever happened to edge, controversial, hate me because I'm so annoying Michael though? The dullness of the mercedes livery sums up his season so far, it's really odd. Ralf-esque.
If that car supposedly struggles to find pace then Nico wouldn't consistently be qualifying and finishing where he does...
there's not a lot happening on the feed.
I always find US talk shows a bit weird, but... a quick plug - the Indycar Series on the Jimmy Kimmel Show
http://wp.me/pSi0N-5C
Full course yellow - I hate it when they apply oval safety rules to road/street courses. The safety crew work so slowwwwwwwwwwly
:P it's great not seeing him be amazing(i), but it's odd him being so... unmichael.
I've liked him ever since his debut though I really only supported him from 2007 on (Ferrari is my team).
Seb V., Jenson, Felipe, Nico, Jaime, Heikki
Agreed....
It's like Schumey finds himself in a parrallel universe and can't believe he won't wake up on the top step of the podium any minute....
He hasn't realised it's called "getting older".... and self delusion...
Maybe Mercedes accidentally bought the wrong one?
Ahhh...
Not Alfonso?....
i like it cause i don't even notice he's racing until a commentator or crofty/ant mention him..
...and they're back out
well, if Ralf Schumacher finishes first in DTM and wins every race by a bajillion miles after launching rockets at everything and setting up Mario Kart weapons around the track for him to use only...
I'm sorry, that's very over-reactional. It's not a bajillion laps, really. ;)
He was my number one in 2005/06. Then he went to McLaren. :P
Oooh, good point, I never thought of it like that :)
In that case, it is really just the neck then. Can't be helped. ;)
Which, of course, went so well....
I have a nasty feeling that he's edging out Massa.... but I may be doing him a dis-service....
Or even ... beats DC.....
On the subject of DC I wonder if he fancies putting laxative in Mark's cocoa so that he can get the drive this weekend...
I take it he is reserve driver...
Funny how the car is sooo much better since he stopped driving....
Vettel crashes less :)
Edited for you. XD
Merci beaucoup...
A "ride with Kimi" clip for SS12 on the WRC site... just gone up and probably about to hit youtube...
IndyLights:
...and another full course yellow for a crash by Dan Clarke
you're right about them not hurrying.
f1 needs to be racing at long beach. it looks amazing.
why did they stop?
Money. As in Bernie wanted more, so they made it a Champcar race instead...
Good question... after Long Beach, it went to the concrete jungles of Dallas and Detroit. Ughhhhh...
the indycars look so short and stumpy as compared to their f1 counterparts.
Has anyone here seen "There Will Be Blood"?
Just seen it. Weird, but I liked it...
the rear wing is a bit silly. it's not proper indycars though.
I quite like the Indy Lights
The cars on track now are IndyLights machines, but yeah the IRL cars are clunky; however one must remember that they were designed purely for ovals.
am i being silly, or should it be indylites? given it's the US?
Nope, believe it or not, it's actually spelled correctly
I've just read what is possibly the worst news of this weekend.
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5jROhO_pev5JySnn7N9sUtXhnF4dA
Why Kimi? Now F1 will just go downhill...
IndyLights:
Full course caution because he harmlessly spun it around?? You've gotta be kidding me...
have to say am glad he's not coming back, he looks too happy to drag him back. i never saw him smile that much in f1.
Sorry if I sound really selfish but I want him to come back to make f1 more fun again. :P
hehehehe i've just been looking over Bill Bailey's tweets about his experiences trying to get home this weekend.
'stranded in Spain due to Icelandic ash - tis the end of days - may have to get job here, blend with locals, gain their trust'
I tire of Spain, I think I shall tunnel out
ok, i've made it to Madrid.. tomoro Barcelona..tonight I eat the tiny pixie food of tinyness that is tapas Muy Bien!
heheehehe :) - https://twitter.com/RealBillBailey
Bill Bailey is awesome. As is his twin brother.
*hopes lou gets this one*
:D hehe
yes! i got it! :D *shouldn't be this pleased to get a film reference*
We're tiring of stupid ash cloud now. We did get an extra day of holiday together but I need to go home tomorrow to go back to work. I'm sad that Nick is still stuck stressed out in London :(
oh no :( that's horrible :(
Did you read my blog post about it?
http://rubbergoat.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/ashes-to-ashes/
IndyLights:
Oh ***** sake - another full course yellow as both Mann and Major go off/spin. This is getting ridiculous.
At least I managed to move my bus so I could stay down here a bit longer. Getting hold of anyone on the phone was a bit of a nightmare.
Have you guys seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34mHZgP9vkc
Surprisingly, it's safe for work...
Oooh very interesting. We've been outside today and had sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.... No ash to be seen and we're pretty much at Heathrow.
He makes a good point ;)
Aye - saw it on Thursday. Brilliant, just brilliant
:D
i'm not sure it matters if you can see it from the ground.
IndyLights:
...and yet another accident
they're worse than gp2 drivers.
But that was my point - I have been all over Denmark this week and we have had brilliant sunshine and clear skies. No ash has fallen and there is not even any thick clouds...
i feel bad that i was once impressed by malaysia and china circuits. {Comment #582}
Once upon a time, people were impressed by the concept of "streets in the sky".
Few people remain fond of 1960s tower block developments, especially since most of them have been pulled down for not living up to their promise (understatement).
Likewise, Malaysia and China used to be big, innovative and exciting. Now they just look big.
How has the quality of the field dipped so much in one season?!
but it's all in the upper atmosphere right?... i know it's an absolute pain, and horrible that no plans are flying but things could be much worse if they hadn't cancelled flights.
One of my friends went to bahrain to see her dad for the easter holidays and her flight was cancelled. She's now facing possibily missing her Alevel spanish speaking exam in 2 weeks as the next flight they have been told they can get is in 15 days time. She's not happy.
15 days?? That's crazy!!
do you want to get into the science of it? it's not very interesting.
It was a quote from the Press Conference when asked whether he missed F1...
Of course he would say no as he's enjoying rallying... doesn't mean he won't be back though....
You know I do ;)
If the very clever science people think planes will fall out of the sky because of it, I'd rather they were grounded.
they'll just fall out off the sky. no question.
Same here, especially since I live within eyesight of an airport. Might be really annoying, but it is massively for the best.
i don't want a plane to land on my head coz nick wants to go home.
they can stay grounded.
apparently so, there may be a chance to get back sooner though.Luckily her dad has a flat out there, otherwise it could get a bit expensive. My school is going to be deserted this week, seeing as about 1/2 of the students (especially 6th form) are borders that fly in from Europe, China, Japan, and Nigeria...
me too.
He likes the greater informality that's true and I can't get excited by F1 now he's gone....
But I am enjoying rallying.... and you do see a lot more of the country when you go rallying than you do going to F1....
I originally wanted him back in F1 but now I am not too sure what I want him to do... I suppose just to be happy.....
IndyLights:
That was probably one of the most disjointed and horrible qualifying sessions I've ever seen - in any formula of racing.
Please let tomorrow's race be better.
*shudders* it may be a logistical nightmare but sometimes i'm really pleased very intelligent science people exist to help in these kinda situations :)
Night guys...
Just going to watch rallying on Motors tv....
Until the morning...
Toodles...
night!
Fair enough. I've been in an Ash cloud and it just seems very different to what I have seen this week. But like you said I have no idea about the science so if they reckon there's a risk then it's always safer just to keep them grounded of course!
See ya!
are you sure you were in an ash could though?
unless it was a glider, i have no idea how you didn't crash.
Neither do I to be honest. But I swear that I remember as clear as day that there was a really thick fog which seemed to cover the whole country, and the volcano itself was spewing tons of smoke when we passed it...
are you sure it was an ash cloud? Don't volcanoes also release a lot of gasses too?...
I am not sure. But the point is, we flew within 100km of a volcano they knew was spewing ash, and this time we have a volcano hundreds of km away shutting down the whole of European airspace....
quick plug for a pic i took today while having a walk around our field. Not surprisingly pictures taken with my newer digi camera are a better quality in good natural light like today rather than with artificial light.

They wouldn't do it just for fun, though, would they?
No of course not - I'm saying perhaps it was a little risky to decide to try and land in NZ when we could have easily diverted to Sydney...
Oooh this reminds me of this flash game called Pandemic 2 now... :)
Have scheduled x1 daily post and x1 live post. Now Mr C and I are going to watch Ghostbusters II.
I'm hoping for more Staypuft but I think I will be disappointed.
It's Health and Safety gone mad.
Is that the oil one? I watched it in the cinema, I liked it too
Hate when that happens
Just tell us who you need to call if there's anything strange happening in your neighbourhood.
Enjoy :)
see ya Christine..
(@lukeh... what's staypuft?)
Fell asleep right at the start of qualifying last night, so have a beer and my laptop outside watching the replay on BBC - no spoilers please!! :)
He's the marshmallow man!!
Think Bibendum but ghosty.
okay :) thank you. lol
It it the oil one yes.
IRL:
Qually is now underway

Silly Minty ;)
IRL:
Milka Duno problem coming to a head this weekend - in practice her IRL car was slower than the slowest IndyLights driver.
:o
Evening all
evening steven
Hi Steven, nice day?
crazy Minty... :D
Not bad at all
Section 4 Behaviour

:)
wow! it never occurred to me to check wiki.
I just did a general search and wiki was the first return that wasn't for the Fox Inn Bury St Edmunds.
I had no idea foxes did that. I know some big that there animals that bury prey but I thought foxes just ate it or left it
Looks like Michelin are not the only company who want to make F1 tyres

Guys, I have a technical problem I have been trying to solve since I got my new computer and I would like to ask for your help.
You see, it's windows 7 and for some reason, it will not read DVD's made by microsoft. It would not read my copy of Office 2007 (which worked in XP) and now it won't read a brand new copy of flight sim X. I have googled the problem and I can't seem to find an answer. Please help!
G'night all, see you at 7am :)
First time I have heard of this problem.
Night Lukeh
Hey Steven, Night Lukeh
night Lukeh!
Indeed. It's an odd one. It does read DVD's and DVD-ROMS etc - I have used quite a few...
Faulty disc drive?
But it reads other DVD's and DVD-ROMS?
This is my drive: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Samsung SH-S223C DVD Burner&v=Samsung&uid= &pf=1&pi=2&c=Storage Devices&sc=CD/RW / DVD/RW&os=32-bit
Sorry
you're all talking about computers, this is my cue to leave and get some sleep :) night all! can someone get lukeh to ring me or something if i'm not awake in time for the start of a race? thank you!
night xx
Night Lou
Apparently Gamestation own souls now
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/technology/shanerichmond/100004946/gamestation-collects-customers-souls-in-april-fools-gag/
That's a good one!
Also a lesson for online purchasers
Lukeh, there's a pandemic 3!
False alarm - it's still pandemic ii: http://pandemic3.com/
Evening peeps
Shift changeover has arrived I see
Hi Bassano
Is it a region control thing?
I don't know.
Man, it was spookily quiet at the airport today
I had to go airside to validate my pass
Not a soul once we were passed the security point
It was like 28 Days Later
IRL:
...and qualifying is done!!
It's 1) Power 2)Hunter-Reay 3) Justin Wilson 4) Castroneves 5) Briscoe 6) Kanaan 7) Dixon 8) Franchitti
De Silvestro is down in 13th and Sato starts 20th
Good session. Surprised to see Dixon and Franchitti so far down, but it could make for an interesting race tomorrow.
:)
I wonder how profitable that "Invest in Wilson" offer was in the end?
Hmmm... no idea. His brother is/was trying the same thing, but is nowhere near as good as Justin An error on my part - Dixon is 8th and Franchitti is 12th
Is everyone getting an early night to be up for the race?
This is NOT the Sidepodcast way!
Here's something for Saturday night oddness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nf9gj9oaVs&feature=related
That's not odd, that's disturbing!
Are they relatives of Frank Sidebottom?
They may be relatives of someone in prison...
I slept through most of qualifying, I got the result but I gather it was less than thrilling?
The word "meh" kind of sums it up really
Red Bull are running away with it unless Ferrari sort their engines out
Right, the DVD-ROM problem was something to do with incompatibility with UDF files (which are like ISO files) and has apparently been solved by a firmware upgrade. Good night!
Well done Gavin
G'night
Nigeria...

me too.
Considering that your one of the few pilots that Sidepodcat Airways has Lou, I am not surprized...
IRL:

... 3) Justin Wilson
I wonder how profitable that "Invest in Wilson" offer was in the end? {Comment #778}
It doesn't finish until the end of 2012, so no definite answers yet. However I'd be surprised if the investors haven't at least got their money back by now because Justin must be on a couple of million of dollars per year and 90% of it is ringfenced for the investors.
For example, if he made an average of $1m a year since 2004 (because I don't think he got paid for the F1 bit in 2003), then the investors should have $4.5m between them. And at the level of success Justin has had he's probably earned a lot more than $1m a year. This is before counting the Le Mans attempts, merchandising stream, whose income is also capped.
Note that the investors only put in £1.2m in the first place (the rest of the $5m Justin needed to get into F1 came from sponsorship). So if we take it that Justin had 9 years to pay that money back and 90% of income is ringfenced for that purpose, then Justin only needed an average income of £132,000 a year to pay the investors off and £264,000 a year to double their money. In other words, I think the "Invest In Wilson" programme has worked rather well, even if I don't know the exact details (only people in the scheme have access to the necessary financial documents to confirm everything).
