Thursday is upon us again, and as ever, it was not a quiet day in the world of Formula 1 yesterday. I am sure I mentioned hoping for a bit of peace, so if I do that again today, what on earth else will happen? Anyway, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Naturally, the number one topic on everybody's lips is goodbye Flav and Pat. Naturally, there was a breakout thread, and Mr Briatore also featured on our F1 Big Picture yesterday. The conversation continues, and I guess what we really want now, is to hear from Pat.
- Elsewhere in the news, Williams are confident that going back to the higher downforce circuits will see them return to form, after a couple of races with badly behaving cars. It's funny, I don't really remember them being on particularly good form before, but perhaps they can end the season on a high.
- RG has written a great post about Paul di Resta and his chances of making it out of DTM. I don't really give much thought to drivers until they get to F1, but it is always good to take a step back and see where they are coming from (or not, as the case may be).

Don't do it word for word. It's like learning a presentation. Learn it word for word and miss one word and your screwed. You see that on Dragons Den all the time. Have a few words written for each section including any facts you need to get in and try to speak naturally. It's actually very difficult to write something in the same words you would naturally say it.
I was! sitting next to a pilot who i presume was supposed to fly the flight i should have been on which was cancelled.
Subsequent flight was delayed by 35 mins and changed gates from one end of the terminal to the other after we had walked there...
We passed a bar on the way so i decided to have a pint :D

Clive of F1Insight also shares his views on Strategy and the Renault Affair. There were a couple of points I disagreed with (as you'll see in the comments), but it is hard to argue against the general gist of the article.

and thankfully almost over. This week has been wearing me down.
It's interesting to see other people's take on the affair. It seems Clive, like me, never really believed it could be true. I'm still shocked.
The more people compare this to the two Mclaren affairs, the more I hope (as a McLaren fan) that Renault is punished. This is probably just bias, but McLaren really suffered from the Ferrari thing, and I still don't believe the gained any benefit or did anything wrong. But I don't want to start all that again. You have to write the brackets!

I think he's saying that the McLaren team would have an extended deal for engines etc and perhaps even the veto thus retaining their number 1 spot for Mercedes.
Just a thought from Joe's race report - it notes that the 08 Singapore GP was the 800th Grand Prix. The number 8 normally stands for infinity, eternity - normally a lucky number. Let's hope that this scandal shall not haunt F1 for all of eternity.

I think Tony is basically saying... Vettel is more important to Mercedes than people previously realised. So while the Rosberg to Brawn thing seems important it's not as important as Mercedes wanting to power Vettel. So they will give up a lot of power to get it.

Ouch. I was about to ask if you've thought of investing in your own stapler. Try having two staplers and alternate between them?
Have they been high quality staplers? Good heavy ones? I find if they're too light or cheap you need to push down stupidly hard to get them to work and they break quite quickly.
We have one of those staplers that uses long ones and custom cuts the end off - you basically have to do a piledriver on it to work else you get mangly uncut stapler ends afterwards...

Oh sh... I just saw the comments now, and they are not happy with this at all. Many think that the government are using big projects just to be popular, without really looking at the likelihood for success. Many are also angry that it looks like taxpayers money will be used.
One also raised a previous incident where a Malaysian rallycar driver asked for sponsorship from the government but was flatly denied. Then this happens...

This is a Malaysian project, so it'll be 1 Malaysian driver and 1 international driver.
Alex Yoong is involved, if I remember correctly, but I'm not sure if that means he'll be driving or if he'll be taking on a management role.
As for the international driver, I'm not sure who they'll be able to pull...
Even so, if taxpayers money will be used, said taxpayers will expect very good results (i.e. points). Seeing the recent success of Force India will also put pressure on Lotus Malaysia to do well.
At least the team is going into this with its eyes open to the costs, even if the press seem oblivious and unlike Campos.

For the fourth successive week, Autosport has failed to arrive on the day it hits the newstands. Two issues probably ended up on some postman's coffee table, one arrived ten days late and I still don't have last week's yet.
Haymarket subscription department are a masterclass in woeful customer service and don't care at all ("Speak to your local sorting office") and any emails sent go unanswered.
I think this might push me over the edge and join the online 'revolution'...

Yes. Charouz run a Lola-Aston Martin LMP1 Coupe in the Le Mans series. Reasonably successful (I think they had Nicolas Prost as a driver) and they also ran the Czech A1GP team, who were near the fornt most of the time.

just do your homework and listen to fellow travellers. i've never been to india but some countries have dangerous buses - old buses, drivers going fast, bad roads etc. most of the time your completely fine - scotts travel hint: travel insurance including medical evacuations - and always have contact details for your consulate/embassy.
It's not me. My bf is living out there at the moment. He's good and organised about things like registering where he is with the embassy etc but yeah he's a bit blase about safety standards for things. Public transport there is pretty lethal whether it's because it's run down or due to terrorism.
it's quite easy to be blase when you're experiencing so much, but countries like india are not somewhere i want to be. that's my choice. i'd rather take my chances in italy.

Just a quick poll, if you were offered a fairly senior job but you didn't have specific knowledge of the sector you are starting in. You're going to have to do the training for the basic job before you're able to supervise it obviously. Would you expect to be paid your normal salary while training or the same rate as the people doing the basic job?

Exactly. This is what I'm used to. I was just checking I wasn't living in the lap of luxury.... My sister is just starting a supervisory job for the first time and they're really messing her around wage-wise. It's even worse as she's under 22, in that she's not even getting "proper" minimum wage even though the position she's applied for and been offered pays a flat rate for all ages well above the minimum.

There are kind of three lengths of short stories in there.
I guess I classify them as Long Shorts - about 4 pages of A4
Short Stories - about a page of A4
and Ultra Shorts - about a paragraph
I get more from Lulu... But their checkout is a bit annoying and everyone knows Amazon so I usually recommend Amazon.
The difference is about double for Lulu though, everyone else is the same.

Yeah... I think people tend to respond best to the longer ones, cross words to say, nanobots, the time travel one, etc, they are the ones that people remember... But I think the mix works in that sometimes you just want another little bit of something rather than a whole something. But then I haven't a clue. I've not found a book that varies in length of short story as much as mine.

Or rather it does... Hence the reason I don't say Lulu to people even though in theory it would mean more money. My motivation is to encourage people to read my book more rather than to make money from doing it. So go as cheap as you can and buy.
None of the 2nd hand ones are genuinely 2nd hand I don't think. When you look at the detailed description they seem to be actually the same, and they say, "printed on demand". Which is the same. I think they are being sneaky on Amazon to get people to click on them.

One thing I enjoyed about Monza was the two Toyotas racing each other, even though there were no points to be gained or lost - there was a lot of enthusiasm and both drivers said it was fun and their team manager agreed. I like that .

Hello everybody how has your day been? I've been a bit frustrated by my car failing its MOT because the fuel cap seal is perished and broken. That's not bad going considering I changed the front brake hoses all by myself and fixed the windscreen washer pipe then did all the usual pre-MOT checks.

How does it sleep even if you're not connected to the internet though. I find that very odd!! The whole process is unaffected by you being disconnected!

Belgium is fine on just a general admission ticket. Head round the circuit anti-clockwise on Friday so the cars are approaching you.
For qualifying and race day I sat at Pouhon and got a much better view sat on the embankment than I ever did at Silverstone in any of its grandstands.
I'm happy with general admission. Easier for everyone to be together. Cheaper too!

That's where I got mine, which Steven and Mr C seemed to like when I was on the panel. The only trouble is, you have to unplug your speakers to plug it in, and reaching around the back of the computer is annoying,
So long as you can get on skype then you are set. Have you found sidepodcast on skype and given them your details because to set up a conference call Christine has to call out rather than us calling in.

Mine is a fairly basic PC World headset that was supposed to b about £15 but they only charged me £9.95 for reasons I don't understand.
After that you only need to know all the motor racing technical stuf

It's not those kinds of questions it is opinion type questions. People will phone in and give us there opinions and ask for ours sort of thing. If there are lots of callers with opinions we won't need to give many opinions

You did. You said you didn't want to do a show on your own so I offered to co-host. That's volunteering.
I used to volunteer people but Christine stole my title. When sidepodradio first happened Christine decided I could do a space show. That was it. Done deal. Then when a gap appeared on the schedule she volunteered me to extend the show to an hour.
We will probably suggest some topics at the start but I would prefer people to phone in with opinions in things they are interested in rather than 10 people giving opinions on the same thing.
The one topic we have that we will want everyone to deal with is if you were made CEO of F1 and could change anything what would you do?
