So here it is Merry Daily post everybody's having fun. You are having fun aren't you?
So why don't you http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ ? I made a site! It's very simple...
BRING A FRIEND TO SIDEPODCAST...
...That sounds a bit harsh... but... Come on a new season is a-coming. So why don't you http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ and then when that's happened why don't you head over to http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ and fill in that you have brought-a-friend.to/sidepodcast but I don't have that domain so you'll have to add it here: http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/
What I'm really suggesting is that you must all know somebody who you can say, "hey can you come and visit this website and just post one comment, it's about F1 and you know you've always wanted to join in really but they are doing this thing at the moment where it's really cool for me if you post just one comment."
Right on with the show:
Gavin has been provided with this picture of his friend doing horrible things to an iPad:
Have you ever thought to yourself 1) I like Sidepodcast and 2) I'd like a good reason to visit Boston in America then be warned there is a meet up planned and you should be involved: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston
Jordan F1 recently got himself a flickr account and he is going flickr crazy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367731/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367773/
Do you have a flickr account and want your pictures to be featured on Sidepodcast? Then make sure you are mentioned on the wiki. There is a spot for picture sharing sites on the wiki page for posters and it's important to remember that that page is not just for regulars. If you want to share a link to your photo sharing site then put it here: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SPC_Regulars
That's what Lou's done and she always has great pictures. Here is a picture of a panda to keep things nice and cheerful: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/5485929612/in/set-72157626166627028/
Paul's sister made a corpse bride wedding cake and also put it on a photo sharing site: https://picasaweb.google.com/pfreeland99/WeddingCake
At work we have a sign on our dishwasher which says, "Dishwasher don't work", unrelated to this thought... Mark Blundell is after a drive: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89965 (Sorry Mark)
Lukeh has a great post about his favourite new iOS apps: http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/170-some-more-ios-games-reccomendations/
Mav wants us all to think about what we might be giving up to get perhaps artificial overtaking: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=6008
And finally Christine has come up with a great idea:
We'll be doing some of our regular race preview stuff ahead of each GP, but following on from Lukeh's most excellent BE POSITIVE post, I wondered about the idea of having a different person do a positive preview ahead of each race - be it because they have been there and it's awesome, or they just particularly like the track, or the championship is hotting up, whatever.
Volunteer yourself (or if you are Steven Roy somebody else) on this page on the wiki: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews
And really finally, finally please remember to: http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/
Wow! What an idea Giggles :)
What... the...
woah.
Evening all
Love the Daily Alex, great Bring A Friend idea
And yay for http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston plugging
Can I say I brought Mr C?
Feel the Sidepodlove! Thank you Alex :D
:)
Yes. Indirectly, the pair of you brought everyone else ;)
Aww thanks for the link Alex!! :)
Have added Em to the list ;)
love the daily via the ipad giggles. i'm curious why all the links are raw http links, style choice or device convenience?
other than that, good work sir. how was it to write?
I must be a font geek because I clicked over to the Bring a Friend link and didn't even read it at first, I was like "whoa, what FONT is that?!" :D
But seriously, it's a dynamite font. For realz.
And hello everyone :)
"The page automatically updates so there is no need to refresh."
yay!
Hello :) I've got interview practise, swimming club and possibly karting later today...
Not another one
The ipad pic is messing with the right hand column of the site. Looks messy
In the future, do Alex and Christine combine their website ownership and become Skynet?
Hey Kai
ooh, i fix.
Hey
Have added Boston to my Accuweather app
#SmallSignificantSteps
Currently, the forecast is wet
Does Force India being realistic about predicting Australia's winner get counted as positive or negative points on Christine's Rankings?
That's a bit harsh
:)
Yeah, it's raining. But is it going to warm up?
I bought Pamela..........
.......out of lurkerdom.
And to GPs :)
#sorrypamelaswallet
Some days are approaching the teens [C] / low 60s [F]
What Olympic events are you booking Amy?
Apart from Tennis, obviously
looking at one day each of swimming, diving, athletics, gymnastics and rowing + the opening ceremony
oh good. That's more like it, and good walking weather.
Like how I asked London what it's going to be like in Boston in 2 weeks? (3 hours away from me)
The opening ceremony is a good idea. If only to avoid Huw Edwards telling us what's about to happen and spoiling it.
Tomorrow, I have a meeting about washing Gas Turbine Jet Engines... on the inside
Gavin brought me..
oh I want to know how, in case Delta needs me to do that for myself in the future, along with everything else.
Seriously though that might be the only thing I apply for, good thinkign
Apparently, it brings incredible cost savings. Who'd have thought they'd get so dirty
I'm hoping the fact I can't get a cheap ticket means I won't have as much competition for a seat :D
:)
It's more of a rinse cycle really. Do you ever jet wash your car, it's similar to that with the engine spinning slowly minus the fuel and flames
Alianora is responsible for me being here.
I applied for Beach Volleyball [when there was the free draw] which I think is in Horseguard's Parade where they change the guards
Why can't you get a cheap ticket?
oh I've seen people doing that at airports.
Occupational hazard for anyone not living in the EU.
they're only for uk residents
How did it happen?
So tell me what you want? Will they have names on them?
I don't know which is why I want to do it the proper way
For an event that has 5 coloured rings to represent every Nation's flag in the world, that seems a bit exclusive
She mentioned sidepodcast to me on another site
Christine brought me here.... from talking about the blog on the podcast ;)
especially since you'll never ever make even a fraction of the nations wasted billions back if you don't make it attractive to foreigners :D
That might be de-icing fluid
A compressor wash needs certain disconnections and then filter changes and a proving engine run afterwards
Absolutely!
:D
Me too. I think Christine might top the charts :)
but you must have seen the discussion here about how its too expensive, at least they're making an effort in some ways.
Like I said, you'll never make both sides happy.
I ambled over here, can't remember what link I used to do it, but it was Mr and Mrs C getting married that convinced me to stay (seriously, that was the first entry I commented on and I've been here ever since...)
You told me about it before that. Either that or I am confused
Probably, but I've forgotten what I told you!
That wasn't too clear. I meant I probably have told Steven before.
I cannot remember how I found you guys or when exactly it was, but I was looking at getting back into F1 after a long time away and I saw this site run by Christine and it looked intriguing, then I lurked for a while and you were all so funny and smart that I had to de-lurk myself. So it's everyone here that is responsible for me being here.
Scott Dixon and Jamie McMurray swapped cars for a while... http://is.gd/k7qILH
I can't remember either. I know it was at the time Max was going after Martin Brundle and I was visiting every F1 site I could find and write comments telling people to support Brundle
You didn't anyone to volunteer to do it?
I remember him trying to persuade me and quite a few others to help - quite successful persuasion I might add :D
I volunteered everyone at every site I visited to write to the BBC or something and stir up a lot of noise.
:D
That's the Steven we know and love :)
Paul-Henri Cahier just emailed to update me on the progress on my replacement print. Shipped today :)
Yay!
Sorry, must go to bed or I might fall asleep in interview practise (which would be a bit silly...)
Kai,
Have you decided on train or car to Boston?
Good night Alia
Good luck Alianora
No, I haven't had any time to even cook a meal in 2 days. :(
ALMS TV news for the season - there will be an ESPN Player in Europe later in the year, in the meantime there's a live feed on americanlemans.com. I know for Sebring, the Eurosport Player will have a commentary-free live stream (meaning you can run RLM along with it).
Australia and other places can see it on local ESPN sites.
http://americanlemans.com/primary1.php?cat=news|15590
Ooh, that's not good
aw am jealous you have famous f1 photographers emailing you..
Good luck
Night Alianora
It's hell week here with standardized testing at school and an insane amount of stupid stuff going on in addition to that, and then I still am not totally back to normal physically since Prague. I'm almost there, though. Immune system took a beating there.
At least in MA you won't need a dietary exclusion translation :)
Exactly, and you can't say "oh hello there" to the piece of paper at every restaurant when I go to order. :)
I was looking at the menus to the hotels 3 bars. I think we could get some good suggestions from the comments. It's traditional
And it the MiFi works we can live stream and comment at the same time :)
It was very cold
I did see that it will cost me $36 to go by train from New Haven to Boston, and is cheap and do-able, but then it may be nice to have the car there, and I don't think I'd make it to the airport in time to meet you guys.
cool! Definitely. We better get a big enough table for everyone here to fit.
Train is fine and it's no issue using public transport. Less money and hassle considering the parking charges
:D
Yeah, at $42 per day just to park it. Yuck.
We should have a think and schedule something for Friday evening
And I think our mission should be to combine http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ with http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston :)
I'll take another look at the schedules and see what it would be in real time logistics, and how to get from Back Bay Train Station in the city out to Logan airport. I do want to be able to meet you guys at the airport.
Anyone got ant St Patrick's Day plans?
I bought my Guinness tonight for after work
*any
we took some shots of christine wearing her red nose day purchases:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/5533089305/
Nope, the 'pretend Irishness' is a bit OTT in English pubs these days on this date. I sometimes get a few cans in but have you seen the cost lately?!
Sainsbury's have a 3 for 2 on four pack cans
12 for £10
They could be proper promo photos for them.
Would be useful if there was one nearby!
I'd imagine all the big'uns would have some sort of deal on in these trying times
ta, tis first time we've had chance to try out the repainted wall. seems to have come out okay.
I am so looking forward to hearing after-race debriefs
about a wall?
The wall of champions, yes. The wall of the studio, I'll settle for Flickr :)
It's only 8 days and a few hours until FP1!
I want a red nose. Those are great pics, very fun.
Wow. Someone hit fast forward in November or so, methinks.
what the heck is the "hbo window"?
Not all movies are available for streaming, and once they’ve appeared in the catalog, they may disappear for six to nine months during the HBO window, as the moguls call it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/17/technology/personaltech/17pogue.html?_r=1
is that why itunes rentals vanish for no known reason?
I'm looking forward to Sebring. I need to revitalize myself this weekend after 2 nonstop weeks when I couldn't really keep up with work craziness and I wasn't feeling well.
is it when HBO runs the movies on their channel, they have exclusive rights to show it for a while? I never knew this, and I don't have HBO.
Me too except I have to stop after the first couple of hours to go to a Thai restaurant. Might return drunk in time for the finish. :)
Could be, maybe Sky Movies and Cirgin Media have a similar deal
#YeOldeWorlde
Ooh, Thai. Lovely
Tip: if you like it hot ask for Thai hot, not English hot :)
seriously, I don't get why people are missing F1, I'm quite sure the offseason JUST started.
i'd like a few more weeks please. looking forward to sebring too though.
It's been 6 months since I was at my last GP, it feel like about 2 at the most.
It wouldn't be the end of the off-season if you didn't say that ;)
When does Sebring start, UK time. I'm assuming there'll be commenting?
there's always more i can squeeze in.
:) Will bear that in mind. It'll be a magical mystery tour I'm sure.
You gained an extra 2 weeks already :)
3pm Saturday, race starts at 3.15pm.
that gave me enough time to move the server. now i can IMPROVE stuff!
If in doubt, Red Curry or Yellow are also delish :)
Cheers. Off-hand, do you happen to know roughly when the Spa 24Hr is?
June or July
Gavin mentioned last year that he'd like to do that. Would you be interested? Anyone else?
#MoreRoadTrips
Possibly but it isn't a well-known entry list apart from Blundell and a few others, since they removed GT1. The 6Hr might be better with Audi/Peugeot/etc.
I can't find it on TV here. This doesn't actually mean I have to watch my little laptop screen for 12 hours??? What the hell?! I hope I missed it or something. It doesn't come up on a search of upcoming shows except for 1.5 hours on Sunday?
In the US it is on ESPN3.com - and for pretty much everyone it is online only in various places. Won't be on TV until highlights on ABC on Sunday afternoon.
http://americanlemans.com/primary1.php?cat=news|15590
Late September? Hmmm, very doable
MotoGP return this weekend. Qatar
Spa 6hr is Sat May 7th (Turkish GP week).
Silverstone 6Hr is the Sunday of the Italian GP.
Looking forward to it
Looks like I don't get ESPN3, so I might as well move to the UK now.
The website?
I'm really disappointed about this, I was really looking forward to watching it like a normal person, not squinting on my tiny little screen. At least most of you guys have bigger computer screens. Boo!!!
I'll check the DirecTV website, but I don't think I have it in my tv package.
A lot of people are disappointed, I think they switched too soon
YOu have to have a website in your tv package?
Yeah, it's ridiculous. Do you want people to watch the race or not? It's simple as that.
No, I mean for my complete tv channel listings in case I missed it when I just went through. I'm too tired to do this right now anyway.
Oh. It isn't live on tv. Which is stupid.
I need to go to bed.. see you
Correct.
Night Pat
Good night, me too.
G'night Kai
Chat soon, I may meet up with Janna for travel talk. We'll be in touch
Sounds good. Good night.
And I haven't had time to keep up with all the changes they made this year. I'm really angry about this. They're idiots.
*pouting*
I love ESPN3.com simply because they're showing the same tennis thats on ESPN2 right now but streaming it is so much easier when I'm at work :)
That's cool. Me, in my tired haze, didn't know that ESPN3 was online only, (duh!), but we have 50 million different ESPN's on TV, so I thought it was one of those. Oh well.
Some nice team-by-team technical analysis over at Racecar Engineering
http://www.racecar-engineering.com/formulaone/
I'm going to get some wonderful sleep now, for real.
Night :)
Similar to their App status, it seems. As I searched for ESPNF1 in the App Store yesterday
Review to follow, can't promise much on the content but the presentation seems nice so far
Sleep tight
That's annoying me, but at least I'll be able to watch ALMS qualifying at work on Friday.
The REAL stinker is that there's an ESPN3 app for the Xbox 360, but not for the PS3.
iPhone?
AMY!!! :)
Check your Facebook. ;)
you're in my queue, I'll get to it eventually :D
this is like a call center. :D you know my real name, right?
of course
so you do. :D thank you! :)
it's nice to finally have you guys on my Facebook. :)
Oh! Amy, are you part of the Team Lotus forums already?
Greetings Sidepodlanders!
I am not Steven Roy, but can I volunteer Steven Roy to do a positive review of Silverstone?
Looks like RG and myself are fighting to do the honours of the Canadian Grand Prix.... I would not doing it, being there twice and all....
Thanks Giggles for plugging my flickr account!
you must have forgotten I'm a comment trawler ;)
I just tried to go shopping for new headphones for my FanVision but I forgot I took all my bank cards out of my wallet.
Oops. The guy at the till was very understanding and put them aside for me for tomorrow :D
Speaking of new bank cards, new credit card with new expiry arrived today. Olympics ahoy!
Morning everyone :)
I think you should :)
Neither really... I ran out of time. I had collected all of the raw urls and turned them all into links on the iPad so no problem there And I kind of wrote my notes next to them as I was going along through the day. But then when it came to posting the daily I suddenly realised that I hadn't written the http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast site at all which might be a bit of a problem considering how heavily I was plugging it. So I just decided not to turn them into sentences. So yes it was a time thing and but not a time thing that was limited by the device if you see what I mean.
Well I don't think it would be my natural choice because Sidepodcast's site doesn't seem to be compatible with the wordpress app on the iPad which made things a little trickier. But yesterday I went to work, and a play and had to write the http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast app so I used my time on the train to collect the links for the day. This, I realised, is something I've done a few times for the daily. The only difference was a few extra steps which I do usually do on the computer mainly because the wordpress site doesn't really seem to work well on the iPad.
So yes... six of one half a dozen of the other as with all iPad things at the moment. It was the right tool for the job when I was collecting links because otherwise I would have been wasting that time staring out of the window. But is it the most efficient way to make a daily? I'm not sure... But with a bit of practice I think I could actually make it better than the current desktop experience. I just need to find a few apps and things.
So yes, interesting...
Thanks Kai :)
I knew that was feature #1
Mwahahahaha
ooooops!
Morning all, feeling much better today.
I actually said Nurburgring, but I probably can't this year as my parents are coming over in July.
Did Sam Collins get roasted on the Midweek Motorsport F1 preview again this year?
Hells yeah!
The UK Foreign Office is telling people to get out of Bahrain now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12768184
Hehehehe. :D
Bernie's latest rant:
http://adamcooperf1.com/2011/03/17/ecclestone-frustrated-by-2013-turbo-rules/
I don't see what the fuss is about Turbos TBH. OK, so they sound different, but the 80's F1 cars sounded great, so why won't they this time?
Quite frankly we need new engine rules as they are too similar and reliable these days...
I wonder how noisy they were. The engines for 2013 are smaller than the 80s engines, though - that may mean less noise too?
How much smaller - wasn't the BMW a 1.6L?
Just applied for more student loans. Scary stuff. I can't believe this is actually happening :D
yes we need those but I think the new rules could have been more flexible. the easiest way to go green would have been to limit the fuel available per certain distance (somewhere around half what they consume these days), allow each driver 4-5 engines per year (depending on number of races) and let the engine makers develop whatever engines or power trains they want.
And unlimited KERS. Please!!!
BMW had a 1.5L L4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M12
Honda, Porsche, and Ferrari had 1.5L V6s.
I would no limit anything other than fuel consumption, weight of car and number of engines per season. if someone decides to go with upgraded current V8 combined with unlimited KERS and someone else with V4 1.2l turbo without KERS, let's be it ...
Having said that, the Matra video is really quite something!
Very good idea, I reckon. But maybe they think it's more expensive that way?
It's not the teams that were ever complaining about expense though was it?
Yep, that's what I thought. Sounded ok to me "back in the day". What size are they duggesting now?
Not the big teams. The smaller ones were.
Something is up with the dashboard right now. The last comment I saw was wolfie's, then when I posted mine about the Matra video, 8 appeared in the queue...
Otherwise known as Group C, which was an awesome formula
Just happened again. 5 appeared after this comment
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_engines
Hmmm. 1.6L, but rev-limited to 12000 RPM with power output of 600bhp. I think that's the key difference here. Those 80s engines revved up to 20000 RPM easily with power output of even beyond 1000bhp during qualifying.
Tried refreshing?
a) development is expensive but fuel saving technology would have road car relevance ...
b) OK, the skyrocketing of costs could be prevented same as now - by setting a limit on price of the engines for teams. once you know the most you can get is 5 million x 10 engines x X teams x 2 cars x Y years on engine supply contract you clearly know how much you can afford to spend on development ...
I think they will always define the engin to prevent an "arms race" if someone comes up with a killer engine. Other than that, I agree. Just limit the fuel.
A few times. Doohickey is working fine.
I think F1 should be about someone coming up with a killer engine that consumes almost zero fuel ...
Ooooooo yeah :-)
We wish! That's never going to be allowed though is it?
I have no issues with engine differentiation. That was how F1 was at the beginning anyway. Might even convince a manufacturer or two to return...
I wonder what Shell, Mobil, Total, and Petronas would think of that...
Current V8 also did 20,000 RPM (I believe Cosworth was the first one to achieve that) before the rev restrictions arrived ... They should not have limited the revs, teams would have to work out the limits themselvs to keep the engine life within the regulations (2 races, 3 races, 8 engines per year etc)
20,000? Are you sure? Because there was a big fuss that BMW were the first to get to that a few years back...
probably not, but who knows, maybe, one day ... We could not imagine Mosley leaving and he did :-)
Yeah that's true. But the FIA want to keep all the teams close in performance. They don't want to smaller teams to drop behind with some rubbish engine while Ferrari or whoever come up with something amazing.
I think so - because I remember there was a fuss there because it was a normally aspirated engine. Lemme check.
The reason I think the FIA put limits in is that if you don't give them a limit, they'll eventually get it above 20000 RPM while keeping within the current regs and maintaining reliability.
It would be amazing if a turbo got to 20,000 for sure!
You're right.
http://f1-dictionary.110mb.com/engine.html
Interesting that there was a reason they couldn't get there - the lack of pneumatic valves. I wonder how high it can get now with those around...
Spa race got new title sponsor - Shell
Excellent!
First time they've done that in ages.
I wonder if they'll make a mention of that at the Shell event they invited Mr C to.
morning all
Early morning Ping -->

forgot the link - http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2011/3/11822.html
cool :)
so how is everybody today then?
Hehe, no that sounds about right.
now that Lotus have received my entry I feel it would be OK for their mailbox to break again :D
you are obviously wishing well to other possible entrants :-)
I wish well to all other Sidepodcast entrants. Everyone else can go away :)
well, people here tend to win things :-)
I don't think anything has topped your Barcardi win yet :)
That's the spirit :)
With five people being allowed on the tour, I think a 5/5 hit rate would be awesome :D
Victoria's tourism and major events minister Louise Asher hosed down any suggestion the government's commitment was waning, and said officials would seek better terms with F1 management when entering negotiations in 2013 or 2014.
"We would like to (extend the contract), but we will sit down and we will negotiate about it," Asher told Reuters in a telephone interview on Thursday. "There's no doubt about it that the Victorian government would want to secure the Grand Prix."
"It's just that we're not going to be bunnies in contractual negotiations.

Heheheheee :D
:)
Morning guys
hello Mr Lukeh
Is anyone having problems with comments not loading?
That's one way he'll get some laughs, I suppose :)
Morning
all good here
Yes, I am in Dashboard. Doohickey works fine.
Are we shooing you today?
so where am i meant to be in one hour? a shell pr event.
they couldn't have waited and announced it then? what's the point of going all that way when i have all the f1 news first, right at my fingertips?
not here. twitter on the other hand...
probably should be
Hmm... I'm constantly having to reload the page. No new comments showing up at all. Twitter has been nasty the last few days alright
didn't you know, you're giving a presentation on the impact of Shell sponsoring the Belgian GP?
hehehehe.
Now the dashboard has just queued the 33 comments and is up to date again.
f1.com jumped the gun?
i've turned something off.
Hmmm.... odd
hope they haven't done a Benson and in fact Shell are sponsoring one advertising board at Spa
The comments? ;)
Pamela and I might be going to a chocolate cafe on Saturday after saying g'day to Mark Webber. I think that makes the day even more awesome. Mmm chocolate.
How do you know it's that?
probably. just highlights what a waste of time the whole thing is.
they may as well just fly us to maranello and be done with it. why pretend there's a point to the rest of it?
Just wait and see first?
i don't believe in coincidences.
not really, Shell sent out the press release with remark "for immediate release" ...
This year I may enter Fantasy Manipe F1, at least until I forget (which happens).
http://www.manipef1.com/fantasy/
Neither do I. But you don't know what it is though?
Comments working now.
Thank's Mr C
:)
wait and see is a 7 hour round trip. bleugh, i best get ready. enjoy your days all.
#idratherbeatwork
#sidepodcastisonlyahobbyanyway
Yea, we got an itinerary and it's not exactly what we agreed to.
me neither
the fact they really didn't want you to say no is so weird.
gavin, i'll say hi to jumpy mcgrumpy for you.
;)
Then why go?
They sold us on Maranello, and put the Science Museum in the way. You can't really have one without the other.
Lovely sunny day for a drive and a walk around London etc etc
Aww ;)
Enjoy your day Mr. C... hope it's better than expected!
Aha!
oh my, Matt Bellamy is in the American Idol audience.
Sunny?? Where are you?
Is that like beatboxing?
I second that
So how about that weather today huh anyone??????
yes that weather is good yes definitely.
Should probably point out that it makes a lot of sense for Shell to sponsor that GP as it's effectively their home one...
heheheh
I'd rather beat work ;)
Dorset
He's been all hollywood'd up. Silly matt.
I mean it's a bit hazy but that'll clear soon
The next album will be 13 songs, all sung by the Muse Idols, auditioning to be the next Matt. Or something. It's an amazing blow your mind concept album.
they sold it to me on "we want to help create unique content with sidepodcast".
okay, then why meet up with 23 other bloggers to share exactly the same info? here's another post:
http://www.formula1blog.com/2011/03/16/f1b-teams-with-shell-v-power-network-of-champions/
i am not talking to formula1blog about their "social media strategy". i couldn't give a...
I would have given anything to do that. I really would.
Anything, ehh?? If I square with Shell, can I have your toaster?
ooh so the C in Mr C stands for Champion. Got it.
Not really sure what the champions thing is about. Can't be champions of the interwebs because someone only used a hashtag for the first time a couple of days ago :)
I don't have a toaster. I do have one of those awesome instant kettle things though?
Oooooohhhh yes....
:)
Oooh Thornton! I live there. I can bring you a coffee if you like ;)
Why are you coming all the way up here??
Maybe they just went with the most read blogs from each country?
I'm sure F1B will talk to you anytime!
You get a cup of tea in seconds. Magic, I tells ya!
Shell factory.
Is it "take over an existing popular Twitter chat and pretend you thought of it first"?
If I had to talk to some bloggers about stuff and plug shell a couple of times to go to Maranello and Ferrari World, I would.
American Muse. Australian Muse. etc
Who thought of #F1chat first?
Yea. We're different peoples though :)
Understood. It's effectively a trade show. The difference is you don't have to go. When I go we swipe as many freebies as possible...
I like the latter idea. :)
Although Matt's already written a song for someone from American Idol before... you may be onto something :o
What's her name... marketing.
It's not the writing about Shell in exchange for going stuff.
It's the being told they will create custom content with us, finding out that's not the case, that only one of us can go to any of these places, that this Science Museum is a MUST when it has nothing to do with anything they said on the phone, that they require our shoe size without saying why, etc, etc.
I know it sounds like we're being ungrateful but it's just not what it said on the tin.
Ahh in Ellesmere Port. Well errrm I hope it's interesting, because there isn't much else out there :P
Lois Marketing
I don't remember bowling in the science museum but I don't think mr Crazy Security Guard would approve
Hehe. Imagine the alarms!
Bowling? :D
Definitely not. People should be upfront about what they want. If what they're offering is as good as it sounds, it would still sell itself.
Didn't she agree on that though?
I do hope it isn't. If you think Mr C is grumpy now, I can't imagine what he'll be like if they ask him to waste time bowling!! :)
I think it's her thing altogether
Actually now that you say it... that does sound fishy indeed. I think the shoe size thing is just for they can order the correct PPE for you though.
Yeah but what I mean is... she let them have it?
Who let her have it?
I'm not sure it's fishy, it's just a lot of stuff we don't have time for. We're not interested in lectures on social media, or team-building with other champions. We're not going to write about that bit, are we? We're interested in the science stuff.
I thought she started F1Chat and then let F1blog take it over because she's a contributor to the site?
It is fishy if you agreed to one thing and then they said it's another.
And you are right, some of that stuff sounds deathly boring...
No idea. I don't use F1 blog at all to be honest.
Yes. But I thought it a bit odd.
Neither do I.
I guess that was the deal. If she gave them F1Chat she could be a regular contributor to the site?
Anyways, I'm shoving Mr C out the door and then I must away to work. Talk to you all laters.
I think so.
But I stopped paying attention to F1Chat when Peter Windsor appeared every week
finally a reason not to feel bad about missing out on trip to Melbourne for GP this year. what would have gone towards the trip went to Red Cross in Tokyo
I would never let that happen.
aw thats nice :)
I was just given a book for my birthday by work colleagues. F1 Encyclopedia. We tend to club together to get something decent rather than ten silly little things, someone yesterday got cake-making related things. :) Not to be ungrateful because it is very kind but I sort of use Forix..
And I have a meringue with cream with my tea.
Most generous sir
I'm playing with my slow cooker for the first time :D
Nick said it was a good idea to try it the first time while I'm at home... I hate it when he has such good ideas :P
well, there is some history between me and Japan, hard to sit in sofa and do nothing
Happy Birthday man!
Cheers. :) It's on Saturday but I have tomorrow off work.
Neither. But she's blogging to promote her job, isn't she?
Nice to see Sauber will carry a message in Melbourne.
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/89977
oooh this gets me very excited for next weekend
"5 shows into the Oz tour and Ed has so far played 54 different songs which (I think) have been made up of 24 PJ songs, 11 EV originals and 19 covers"
I love not knowing what you're going to hear until you get there :)
Nicolas Prost has signed with Gravity: http://www.gravitysportmanagement.com/?p=3898
Eh? But normally you have to know what's on the menu at the restaurant you eat at?
thats because I don't like everything food related. I tend to like the majority of things that Eddie sings :)
someone's twitpiccing from the event:
http://twitpic.com/4aaabv
http://twitpic.com/4aaakl
i now have to explain to 23 bloggers that i'm anonymous and they can't post pictures of me?
make sure you wear the panda suit next time
"During 2011 Nicolas will also provide demonstration runs of the Lotus Renault Formula 1 car at Renault World Series race weekends."
No surprise there then
Did Shell tell you all which hashtag to use?
:D
it might liven up what looks to be the most boring event in history.
#pubsareformeetups
Please feel free to announce your involve in the project to your networks from now on. If using Twitter we would encourage you to use the following hashtags #shellvpower # SVPchamps
That could be a problem. How awkward!
I might say that 'they are bloggers and what do you expect'.. but OTOH being a corporate thing maybe you'd assume they'd say 'no pics AT ALL'.
laaaaaame. I prefer when hashtags develop organically
#yourvpowereventeventsux
yeah. i didn't want to meet them though. i don't like any of them, the coal hole is the only place worth meeting in london :)
So other than Stuart C, who interesting is coming along or have they not told you?
for you to potentially meet on purpose and get through it i mean
from what I can see from the people using the hashtag, none of them seem to be F1 fans.
I would expect Mr. C's favourite blogger to be there, right?
So it's about social media then?
they won't tell us. although they must have told stuart we would be. unless that was a hell of a guess.
If Stuart is doing his compere thing he might have a guest list.
or not :)
ha. i couldn't spend a day with him.
James Allen is there though
OH NO.
that's it i'm coming back.
I'd be amazed if he wasn't!
at least try to blag some Senna tickets first
i wouldn't watch that film with him if you paid me.
is he though?
It might be my only option. Besides, it's for Charity and there will be F1 people there.
http://twitter.com/#!/daddacool/status/48348146329333760
I meant for me :-D
Just come here after June.
today, i have learned the f1 community is a very small place, and i don't much like anyone in it.
#solaceinsidepodcast
ahh.
RUN MR C, RUN
What specifically? Too geeky? Too arrogant?
i'm in a car. at a service station. but i am coming home. now.
James Allen AND Ellesmere Port... Mr C has my deepest sympathies actually
like, i don't wanna meet allen. i don't wanna meet f1blog people.
i need to follow another sport.
who?
If they find out that's it's BP you may as well turn around anyway
I'm surprised they made you go but they let you walk out so easily. I assumed they'd lock the door!
Or had you not made it there yet?
it is :) :)
i'm halfway there. but it starts at 11.
#sidepodtime
aren't you off to Cheshire? Or did I confuse some earlier conversation?
what are they gonna do, sue us for not wanting to sit by james allen?
Hmm. Well I could see what you mean by that I suppose. I mostly end up reading the F1 blogs connected to people here really.
We never signed nuthin. First rule of Sidepodcast.
I was going to write an article on fuel... might have to rush it out now ahead of the 50 "unique" articles on fuel.
note to self, mention Mobil lots :-D
they can't sue, but JA might send you a mailbox full of unsolicited emails
Hehehehe.
Fuel fans!
Well who isn't? I love the smell of benzene in the morning :-P
I've a bad feeling it may be somewhat full of folks thinking "oh my God, it's James Allen (Squeek)"
at least it'll distract them from photographing Mr C
the first time I ever saw him in person it was randomly walking down the road in Melbourne and my first thought was 'god I wish I could heckle him'
Why didn't you?
Hehe, you should have!
I'm too shy
Wag a finger at him?
Come back Mr C... Do not step into the light...
James and Keith in the same room with an annoyed, grumpy (and Jumpy about having his photo taken) Mr C...
A camera flash will go off and Mr C will stab somebody ;)
Keith??
How good is the wifi in prison? :)
surely you know this story by now?
And if not, today is not the day to go through it :)
Nope, but if it makes Mr C angry, then I can wait
Sorry the dark lord. He who shall not be named.
I am intrigued as to where this might go next
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxK89zlbJn8
Excellent work at blurring out the guys Brawn hoody too :D
*hugs desk*
He's back baby!
Now that everyone is here in the room lets talk about the future of social media where things are shared over a thing called the INTERNET. This amazing new INTERNET is where people can meet in a social environment and exchange ideas and chat without being physically present. Oh wait I think I have invented irony.
♥
isn't it so nice that Journeyer is in the Philippines and doesn't have to fly alllll the way to London to be able to talk to Mr C?
i wonder if it's a big ruse to get people to use more fuel?
:)
I'm afraid to tell you that you have missed out on a jaffa cake.
next you're gonna tell me you stole my desk!
Nope. We have been listening to the cricket, so it is not all fun and cake.
legard?
It was crickety people and then when England, maybe, got, erm, bowled out? They threw back to Legard in a studio someplace.
ooh i didn't realise he was still employed.
It's the British way.
of course - he works for the beeb. he goes and does what he's told
Leigh, have you been on twitter much today?
Didn't realise he still works for the beeb.
I have a feeling my mate from Trinidad will be contacting me soon!
Afternoon all. Been in a meeting.
Sadly not.
Oh dear lord. What have I let myself in for?
I hope they pay well ;)
I feel I've missed a trick. JA does nothing for free.
maybe he really wants to see inside maranello?
Right. To M&S...
cheers gavin,
just messaged you back
:)
saw it. Twitter on the iPhone is ace;)
it worked, they taught someone what a hashtag is: https://twitter.com/#!/Landcraft/statuses/48375481485103104
:)
Some people have a batmobile...
and I replied back too ;)
:)
Where do you put the shopping in a batmobile???
Yikes... Allard has fallen greatly
oh sweet lord
Never heard of him?
sadly, we're following the hashtag!
Ex-F1 commentator for Eurosport and racer in the junior formula years ago
Not much to see though?
it's car crash tweeting... "what do you mean, only 140 characters?"
Oh yeah. him.
I'm not sure but Batman must always find a way because when he gets home...
...it's always time for....
...(oh dear I couldn't stop myself)...
...(I am sorry)...
Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Batman!
Going to e-mail Coloni direct to see if I can get an answer about the Jakes situation. Never done anything quite like this before.
james: "allard, you never leave enough gap before you call the winner. it should be... wiiii........iiiii......nnns. see?"
A shame. But I guess there's no way he's taking his seat back from Ben Edwards...
Hey Journeyer, it appears your countrymen and women have embraced twitter ;)
#svpChamps Group Photo, feel free to tag yourself!
A close escape!
Group Photo: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6576742&l=e38254e347&id=651512988
p.h.e.w.
Nothing I hate more than group photos at conferences. What's the point?
I was part of a project were someone suggested at every 6 monthly meeting to have a group photo - it was the same ten people every single time for goodness sakes
how else do you teach people about twitpic ;)
Are there any F1bloggers in there? I don't recognise a single soul...
You hollered? :D Ah! Mr C came back! They won't miss you, I'm sure.
:D
Have you guys seen this Aussie GP iPhone app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/australian-grand-prix/id422802466?mt=8
Any god?
I actually really think this is a neat site because it explains the issue really well...
But...
Who wants to be the one to post it tagged #svpChamps?
http://momthisishowtwitterworks.com/
(#WeProbablyShouldn'tItMightJustBeMean)
Legard does cricket now? Somehow, I think the pace of that game suits him more. :)
#nopolitics ;)
Whoops!
Any good?
It does, I'm liking it. It'll be the World Indoor Bowls Championships next...
ouch! ...and here's a lesson about how social media can work against you.
#svpchamps #bpfuelisbetter
Heheh.
HOLY COW. Friend of a friend in the pic. Note the word Phillipinen.
It's a lovely day, I wanted to go karting, had the money... ...and the track's shut :(
Do we know what the shoes are for yet?
I'm guessing racing shoes? Just a guess.
I'm afraid to tell you that you've also missed out on a lovely lime sweet :)
That's what I meant when I said your countrymen and women have embraced twitter. Half the tagged tweets are from Filipinos...
Small world.
Isn't it a bit odd to make the Asian participants come all the way to London rather than do it regionally?
or via skype.
Wasn't it a bit odd to make anyone outside London travel?
Very.
I'm not even sure why we're there. Denmark, Netherlands, UK... and the Philippines?
@sam_burnett: Had lunch with James Allen, he's a very nice man. #svpchamps
eating food while listening to his voice? how??
some of them have only just discovered twitter, let's not get carried away
where we're from, it's hard to say no to an all-expenses-paid trip to London, which I assume is what they got.
I wonder who is there from Denmark?
agreed.
yup. i'm not judging anyone for saying yes. i just didn't want to go.
Don't be mean. :P Lots of love for JA amongst the participants...
Oh, and NO Keith today. He's at a Caparo event with Mika Hakkinen.
I didn't know it was Goodwood media day today?
Badger is there too.
Jenson is on my television... what's going on?
He's running...
Depends what they are doing. If it really is "how to use Twitter" then yeah but there must be more to it
He's having a shower...
Oh it's an advert...
Head and Shoulders? :D
I suspect they'll have a racing event of some sort - would certainly explain the shoe size...
No I have great looking hair ;)
(For those who don't know the old ads this won't make any sense)
Yep - Jensen, while Vettel did the German language version
HA! :P
In what is a bad sign for F1 in France, Jenson was dubbed for the French version. :)
I don't suppose Rubens did a Brazilian version
One of them (Laura Marieee) is writing for F1B, I believe, but since I've never seen a photo of that blogger, it doesn't help me here.
Surely he did one? Isn't he also a H&S endorser? He had it on his overalls at Florianopolis last year...
he has no hair.
There are 4 countries involved and 3 of them are in Europe. Among other things, they're all looking round the Science Museum, which isn't really visitable by Skype...
I thought Sebastién Loeb was a H&S person? Was he not available at filming time?
I'm still wondering how we ended up there. It's not like we're the only country in Asia...?
You're a big emerging market?
Hope he enjoys himself :)
No idea. I just remember it because I saw the French TVC way before the English one.
Wash and go? I washed and it went...
Shell has a big presence there and wants to support its own people?
:D
Yes but what's the point of that?
Evening All, I see Mr C is having Fun :)
Have they managed to make that car stop setting fire to people BTW?
True, but you could include Malaysia and India in that group. And they need the publicity in Malaysia, too...
am now :)
It gets better. There are all-expenses paid trips to Maranello and Abu Dhabi later...
My arrival or did james allen start doing his photo montage commentary? :D
Maybe they want to meet the guard who told you off the last time you had a Sidepodmeetup there? :D
That was the Science Museum, right?
Ice-breaker? Lots of time to explain stuff while learning how the 24 people involved differ in the ways they interact, pay attention etc.?
Boooooo
Michael Gough has died - http://www.metro.co.uk/film/858366-michael-gough-batmans-butler-alfred-dies-aged-94
Sounds like a timewaster tbh.
No idea TBH.
Id there a prize for going to this event?
:D
Not for going to this event on its own. There may be a prize for best reporter or something, but if so it'll be after the three trips plus whatever work they're meant to be doing alongside it.
The three trips, are they being put on a plane and taken to undisclosed locations?
Free HOLIDAY to Italy?
it's some kind of competition. i think we might be playing the part or HRT.
I will admit to not being 100% convinced myself.
Ah, that place
mmm Pizza
free for one. if the other goes we can do but have to pay.
you were going to go, but then failed to turn up - sounds more like USF1
For the Italian GP?
looks like it's a team effort? it looks like they've taken a page out of A1GP's book and teamed them up by country... :D
ooooh thats LOW!
ahh yes. i have read the gumpf honest.
No. The other 2 are definitely Maranello in June and Abu Dhabi for the Grand Prix there.
who you calling peter windsor?
Mr C is coming to Yas?
not any more.
:-P
Awe, thats a shame...
wasn't the Abu Dhabi trip in December?
Although perhaps we should just go by ourselves and point and laugh :)
We are talking blogging and social media - why do you do it? 70% say personal satisfaction is the key measure of success. #svpchamps
because we tried to quit and no-one would let us.
#cantotallytakepartfromhome
'Tis, sorry. I misread :(
ooooh, tempting.
Err... what's there to see in Abu Dhabi in December?
:D
ferrari world.
I dont know if there is much on there in December, lots of concerts but not much track action.
Ferrari World, apparently.
speaking of blogging, one of my friends asks me every single time she sees me how my running is going.
and I always answer with 'you'd know if you read my blog'
But she refuses to. Boo.
Grrr... why does Nottingham Uni's website keep insisting on opening a new window when I click on a link? a tab would be annoying enough given that I'm not even leaving their site but a new window...
AH. But aren't they there... erm, all year? ;)
Correct!
There's so much negativity in this room!
Feeling better post lunch, safe in the knowledge that I don't have to go to another meeting.
I'd be happier if the karting circuit I wanted to kart at today was open :(
sorry, my fault. i have a blog post to write anyhow...
It is safe ti say Mr C is more positive than he has been all week.
I guess it's a nice temperature in December :)
:)
:)
:)
I would guess they want to bundle it in with the Yas Show weekends where they have big concerts every week for 6 weeks or so after the GP
Such a grump!
Far more important things to do than that, young man.
guilty.
but hey, at least i'm honest. i don't like james allen and don't want to talk to him. if edelman had been upfront and not said "we can't tell you who will be there". we wouldn't be discussing this.
Stuart C, I am now cheered up because fifth practise (or 1st practise, depending on how you count them) at Sebring's just started :)
I love Sebring. Barred from viewing it at home though. "How long did you say this goes on for?"
We went in the bar with the alligator once.
In other news, Michael Gough is dead.
Perhaps they didn’t have a final list? Only rang me up last week.
That's a pity :(
I'm supporting car #51 in GTE-Pro because it's got Fisi in it, and things have gone well for him and his team so far (she says, touching wood...)
fair enough. "can we have you shoe size? nope, can't tell you why we need that either".
i'm not 12 anymore.
Perhaps it is time to change the subject.
Saw that earlier. Bye bye Celestial Toymaker
Could they not have said "so that we can get you the right-sized footwear?" like they did when my shoe size got asked at a random point in a high-level training session?
I'm about to finish another chapter in book three.
Allan McNish is fastest in practise :)
Good news! :)
What percentage are you through it?
So how are doing on http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ is anyone planning on bringing a friend over?
In case you are worried about how the interface works and you want to do a test thing then please feel free to muck about on this test page: http://bringafriend.to/test/
If anyone wants practise at waking up for the Australian Grand Prix, Force India will provide - it's holding an internet conference at 5:30 am GMT on Sunday!
Not far enough. Third chapter out of 20-odd. Am expecting nagging emails shortly…
Red flag at Sebring. Don't know why yet...
In other news, Twitter's gone into secure mode mid-session without prompting...
I'm no good at planned "bringing friends over". I find it works better when I happen to spot an opportunity...
Looks like one of the LMPC prototypes crashed at Turn 1. Still under red flag at Sebring.
The session went green and before I'd had chance to update my live commentaries the session went red again...
Back to the mid-90's with then
Looks like Luca Filippi to race instead of James jakes this weekend in GP2. Is Filippi going to spend the rest of his career subbing in GP2?

What!!
oops. i have another to write about podcast hosting costs. am i allowed, or should i just fix the server?
You can write blog posts all you like really, 'cept I thought we might have talked about that one first.
ooooh. sorry. i can take it down? i was writing it surreptitiously see.
apologies.
It's up there now. i'm sure google has already read it,
bah. i'll do coding. i'm safe when i code.
i'm not sure writing an article with the company name in it counts as surreptitious. ;)
no. christine said i should do something productive, so snuck it out without her knowing i was wasting time blogging.
ah. :D well, if it makes you feel better and work better... ;)
i never blog, i just had to. am done now, i'll blog again in june :)
It is a good post. I want to hear about hosting costs.
Good. I hate High noses
hehe, are you sure? last time i mentioned a number, your eyes popped out of your head live on air.
Hehehe. I wint read it until I get home and you can take a picture :)
won't

As Gavin (and a few others) saw on Twitter earlier on, I do not and will not "do" St Patrick's Day. It is the one day of the year I am so glad to not be in Ireland.
(ughhh)
aww, i love it. wish i was there now. mmmm guinness.
...........................
> :(
[glad to not be there - it is a plastic holiday]
i never met anyone in ireland who'd agree with that sentiment. why the resentment?
Here's why: http://twitter.com/#!/LPX_LOGorman/status/48385401773228032
another question then. how come no-one else i ever met in/from ireland felt the same? i assumed it was a nationally loved holiday. it certainly was by all i met.
Because not everyone in Ireland is the same. I think that is kinda the point :)
Depends where you go in Ireland. To be honest, I've never bought the "Oirishness" of the holiday. When I walk down streets in Dublin on Paddy's Day, I see bars rammed at 10 in the morning with people content to drink themselves dead for sixteen hours.
I see the streets littered with vomit, broken glass and broken teeth from non-stop fighting. A holiday sold by beer companies under the presence of religion.
Again, it depends where you go.
i guess, but it's crazy popular, brings masses of tourist money and it's a celebration a national drink that's the best drink in the world.
it's like saying "i hate fluffy kittens", no-one really hates fluffy kittens :)
I'll be absolutely fine watching the whole thing, with breaks to eat meals :D
yes. that's what makes it awesome.
I'm going to a dinner that Mr C isn't.
:) :) :)
I do miss lovely Dublin,
And Mrs C, who is Irish, will be home alone. I am therefore in MASSIVE TROUBLE.
when you're done stealing my jaffa cakes, can we go?
I have yet to find anyone else who thinks St. Patrick's Day is supposed to be a beer festival. Even the students who used to drink themselves silly all day at university thought it was supposed to represent what was good about Ireland and that they just happened to care most about its beverages and certain of its legends...
Although, to be fair (to myself), when I accepted the invitation Mrs C had an evening planned with a chum, who has now cancelled.
she could have my seat?
I don't see the analogy - I hate rampant drunkenness, vandalism and fighting, which is what a St. Patrick's Day gone wrong results in.
We'll see.
Hope you enjoy yourself and Mrs C calms down by the time you are home.
Strange, because I don't know many who know Paddy's Day as anything other than a beer festival.
I don't see how that's different from Binge drinking anywhere else really.
Which is Paddy's Day always unfortunately.
Groups of people may binge drink. When it happens on mass, first thing in the morning, that's different.
True. It sounds like Friday night in central Sheffield...
Do we need to send round Sheffield students to teach people how to celebrate St Patrick's Day responsibly? That is one sentence I never thought I'd type, but it appears it would help...
St. Patrick's Day weekend is celebrated in NZ and it's awesome. There is an Irish Pub in Copenhagen but it's kinda dirty when it's packed...
And in deference to the Irish, it's raining like bloody Belgium here!
(Jeff Iannucci on Facebook)
I'm wearing coral and grey, not in honour of anything in particular...
I'm wearing grey and black
Same..
Maybe you're in the wrong country?
;)
I went to a massive all inclusive party in T&T where anything alcoholic was handed out like water for 7 hours. Not one fight or even a hint of trouble!
If only that happened in Ireland
I'm wearing a blue shirt
:)
Are you wearing Hawaiian shorts?
I am wearing suit trousers... Just like normal.
:)
Oh.
I would like to go to Ireland at some point, whether it is St Paddy's or not (don't mind either).
I am sorry to disapoint :(
I'm not disappointed. Will you be wearing red trousers tomorrow? It is Comic Relief day
blue jumper, brown t-shirt (hidden, a size or two too small), blue jeans
I'll be wearing a red top if that counts...
Good enough for me
:)
been sorting through the kids' wardrobes - poor things will be entirely red tomorrow
Be sure to take photographs and then have the picture blown up large for their 18th birthday / wedding day / both
:D
if anti-red eye kicks in, will anything come out?
Probably not, but you'll get colourful walls.
Ahhhh it's good to finish work and know you have a few days off :D
Ditto, 24mins to go then I'm not back til Tuesday :)
Is Wikipecia something like alopecia?
Hope not...
:)
I myself would never allow my editorial integrity to be comromised. I mean some firms totally take the Micky! I'm not a Dumbo! I'd have to be Goofy to do all the things I've been offered, so in the end I have to say no to them. It Disney matter how much they're offering ;)
Wikipecia. n. Hair loss caused by errors in Wikipedia articles
Oh giggles, you're so daffy.
Hehehehe.
Aaaand we're done.

I came home to find a card from an aunt. Picture of two dogs. One is a dalmation.

Good thing I'm in Iceland. Got this e-mail from my University:
University buildings on Mattilanniemi campus cleared for security reasons
University’s Mattilanniemi campus buildings MaA, MaB, MaC and MaD are cleared and staff and students are requested to leave the premises immediately, because the police investigating a gun scare in the buildings. The police asks people to leave all doors to offices and classrooms open and unlocked, so that the buildings can be checked quickly. Staff and students can leave campus for today. The buildings will be open normally on Friday unless otherwise notified
Lucky. Bit scary.
Good thing you're not in Denmark. IT'S SNOWING!!!
Erm Gavin, you know whom you're talking to, right? Of course it is snowing in March.
But it's not supposed to here :(
At this rate it will be snowing in July when my parents come over!
yeah. I wonder what's going on
Weird country. Snow is supposed to last until at least the end of April.

We are going here for dinner tomorrow: http://www.pakhuskaelderen.dk/
Mrs. Goat won a voucher and we are celebrating our wedding anniversary...
nice one.
Very nice!
sebring clashes with crashed ice final. doh!
It looks proper posh. Normally we eat a pizza on Friday nights, so it will be a nice change ;)
You can always come back to Sebring?
and Danica doing Bristol NASCAR
will have to :)
aww man.
Gah, there's too much racing.
Hey, that's a great name for a blog or something!
I love March.
Hehe :)
Wait, does that mean crashed ice final is this weekend?
It is. Half past midnight, Sunday morning.
If only there was some sort of prediction game where you could pick drivers and score points...
... and what if someone looked into that game every now and then and made graphs from it???
Ooh I'll be home by then
Yay!!
Aww. Can someone cheer on Fake Heikki for me please? :)
We absolutely will.
Here is your racing timetable for this week:
- Sebring starts at 2.15pm UK Saturday. I got the time wrong the other day because of the DST change offset.
- NASCAR Danica (her first time at Bristol, which if you don't know is a crazy place) should be at about 6pm Saturday.
- NASCAR Cup race Sunday 5pm.
- Crashed Ice 12.30am.
- MotoGP Qatar Sunday 7pm.
- GP2 Asia Imola Saturday 1pm and Sunday 1pm
- WTCC Brazil Sunday 4pm and 5pm I think.
- V8 Supercars in Adelaide 3am Saturday and Sunday.
Racing is back in business. :)
Wowsers, thanks Pat! :)
No probs. :)
I'm planning to watch the start and finish of Sebring, Crashed Ice at the same time probably, and all of the MotoGP (its only 45mins).
Saturday's also the last day of the Six Nations though.
I thought that was Sunday. I'm never going to get used to these weird schedules :(
Ewwww... just picked up a very green and furry onion from the cupboard!
I found its theme tune. Co-incidence?

Evening all
Evening :)
I didn't get into Warwick
BOOOOOO Warwick
I'm not actually that upset. I'm going to visit Leicester next week and unless I fall totally in love, I'm sure I'll be really happy at Southampton.
They weren't good enough for you then?
The good thing is that you have options
Yeah, I've ruled out Lancaster on location grounds (wouldn't want my mum coming down for a fun day out every weekend...) and I'm not that sold on Cardiff but yeah I do have good choices. I loved Southampton when I visited so Leicester is gonna have to be WOW to change my mind.
Southampton is as far away from your mother as you are going to get.
The plus points keep on coming ;)
:D
Of course you will be closer to Heathrow and Nick
♥
Want to a naked Ferrari???

Ever seen space rain? This a tropical rainstorm on Saturn's largest moon Titan. The rain is a bit different to the kind we know. Titan is incredibly important as it is one of the most likely places in the solar system that there is life. To me it is utterly impossible that there is not life there or that it will not evolve there in the future.

Want to what to a naked Ferrari?!?! :-O
That's amazing. It works like the water cycle here... but with methane. Methane rain.
Is methane a useful potential fuel..?
yes
could do with getting rid of the methane we've already got, though - it's a potent greenhouse gas
(can I blame dairy farmers? :-) )
Not really. Too dangerous. Very high risk of explosions
Not if you want your cheese :)
I managed to cook dinner with it and survive
But you can't store it in large volumes. You're gonna have a total disaster on your hands before long.
global warming or cheese?
pass me the factor 50 sunblock
I can lend you some of that :P
custard powder is more dangerous
Agree!
Should have been see a naked Ferrari
the natural gas storage facility at Rehden in Germany has a working gas volume in excess of four billion cubic metres
granted, they may have a total disaster at some point
They have lakes of methane and ethane and who knows what else. Methane is the basis of the gas used in heating and cookers.
You can blame their cows. I don't think farmers produce any more methane than you or me
the clever thing with methane is that you can react it with carbon dioxide to make stuff like petrol
Not so

Out in space where there is no oxygen?
Its the most basic of basic organic building blocks
speak for yourself :-)
:D
I've finally remembered where my gala on April 2nd is. It's in Winsthorpe, Staffordshire.
Woohoo, daily all done and dusted!
Is it me or is Wordpress very slow tonight?
not that the daily would be on WP but y'know
Haven't noticed it I'm afraid pat, not been on my blog today, Since the DDoS attacks it's been a bit odd though as Christine noted last week
I was hoping it wasn't just my router again!
One of the world's worst commentators is on Twitter @CarltonKirby.
It's been okay for me, although I've only been in it briefly. They addressed the "turbulence" too: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/some-turbulence/
Evening all. How's everyone?
Tomorrow's homepage minigraph is something a little special if it works :)
OK, thank you. Had fun at swimming club and now trying to figure out how practise 6 at Sebring ended.
Hiya Andy. Not too bad thanks :)
Rrrrubbish! I've lost my Southampton letter I need to apply for housing. Booo for being so disorganised!!
IHAVEGUINNESS!

The NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Charlotte has been renamed the Top Gear 300 to promote TG USA..

happy mr c?
Woohoo!
Who am I kidding, guinness + mr c = no questions asked :)
:)
I've got San Miguel. Kind of wishing I'd got Guinness.
Christine I assume with the caps
What happens on St Patrick's Day stays on St Patrick's day :)
I may watch some Father Ted to celebrate St Paddys Day :)
♡♥
:)
It is still lower caps really I reckon, he's just so positive it appears as caps
! A white one!
Caps? Gosh
Uni update: So, apparently a gun-like noise was heard which triggered the evacuation and police search. They didn't find anything though and the building is open for lectures again.
Sounds like a good idea, although no excuse is ever needed for Father Ted :)
So either it was not a gun or the gun is still there?
Probably just a door slamming in the wind....
It sound as if there never was a gun. I hope
*sounds
That is probably true. Probably the person who reported it has never heard a gun fire
I had a Guinness. That'll do till next year, I reckon.
Or just wanted to see what would happen
:)
That is possible too
That's students for you....
I hired a guy once who pressed our panic alarm because he was bored and wondered what would happen. Answer = you get fired.
Pingle: http://mrschristine.com/2011/03/17/film-watch-122-despicable-me/
At least his curiosity was was satisfied
The local constabulary weren't too thrilled :P
ooooooh. Another film i was thinking about seeing! I love how your film watches always pop up at the best times :)
I can imagine
Happy to be of service :)
I guess I should be glad I'm not in a big city. They get SWAT.
Also that clip really is fluffy.
christine can I suggest How to Train Your Dragon for film watch?
You can, and someone else suggested it to me too. I'm not sure after seeing the trailer though.
It doesn't seem to be available to rent either on iTunes, thats annoying :(
appreciate you doing that. good insight cheers.
Flippin' iTunes.
did you see my comment on the hbo window, this morning? news to me, but could be to blame.
Steve better hold a whole press conference just to announce it's available to rent *apple strops*
it could be his one more thing.
I heard he's not on medical leave but is actually personally building animatronic John Lennon and George Harrison robots so he can reunite the Beatles and they can perform a specially penned song about how to train your dragon coming to iTunes.
DRAGON :D :D :D
I really want to buy a Toothless. It amazes me that Dreamworks never released something official like a plushie.

SQUIRREL!
...and kathi.
:)
How awesome is that?!?!?!
Bet you're regretting having finished the daily now eh :P
I won't say who's daily it's been in :)
It is insanely cool though, absolutely love it. I want an Up house!
i knew it would've been somewhere!
i'm blaming flipbooks for not reading the daily and thinking it was fresh news: https://twitter.com/#!/Flipbooks/status/48521798702215168
oh yes!
I was trying to work out why I hadn't seen it but I was probably in London looking at the date on it #blamenick
I came back from London saying I was going to work less. 2 x 50 hour weeks later I don't think I've managed. Must try harder.
Good evening
