So here it is Merry Daily post everybody's having fun. You are having fun aren't you?

So why don't you http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ ? I made a site! It's very simple...

BRING A FRIEND TO SIDEPODCAST...

...That sounds a bit harsh... but... Come on a new season is a-coming. So why don't you http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ and then when that's happened why don't you head over to http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ and fill in that you have brought-a-friend.to/sidepodcast but I don't have that domain so you'll have to add it here: http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/

What I'm really suggesting is that you must all know somebody who you can say, "hey can you come and visit this website and just post one comment, it's about F1 and you know you've always wanted to join in really but they are doing this thing at the moment where it's really cool for me if you post just one comment."

Right on with the show:

Gavin has been provided with this picture of his friend doing horrible things to an iPad:

Have you ever thought to yourself 1) I like Sidepodcast and 2) I'd like a good reason to visit Boston in America then be warned there is a meet up planned and you should be involved: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston

Jordan F1 recently got himself a flickr account and he is going flickr crazy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367731/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367773/

Do you have a flickr account and want your pictures to be featured on Sidepodcast? Then make sure you are mentioned on the wiki. There is a spot for picture sharing sites on the wiki page for posters and it's important to remember that that page is not just for regulars. If you want to share a link to your photo sharing site then put it here: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SPC_Regulars

That's what Lou's done and she always has great pictures. Here is a picture of a panda to keep things nice and cheerful: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/5485929612/in/set-72157626166627028/

Paul's sister made a corpse bride wedding cake and also put it on a photo sharing site: https://picasaweb.google.com/pfreeland99/WeddingCake

At work we have a sign on our dishwasher which says, "Dishwasher don't work", unrelated to this thought... Mark Blundell is after a drive: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89965 (Sorry Mark)

Lukeh has a great post about his favourite new iOS apps: http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/170-some-more-ios-games-reccomendations/

Mav wants us all to think about what we might be giving up to get perhaps artificial overtaking: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=6008

And finally Christine has come up with a great idea:

We'll be doing some of our regular race preview stuff ahead of each GP, but following on from Lukeh's most excellent BE POSITIVE post, I wondered about the idea of having a different person do a positive preview ahead of each race - be it because they have been there and it's awesome, or they just particularly like the track, or the championship is hotting up, whatever.

Volunteer yourself (or if you are Steven Roy somebody else) on this page on the wiki: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews

And really finally, finally please remember to: http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/

love the daily via the ipad giggles. i'm curious why all the links are raw http links, style choice or device convenience?

other than that, good work sir. how was it to write?

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:20

I must be a font geek because I clicked over to the Bring a Friend link and didn't even read it at first, I was like "whoa, what FONT is that?!" :D

But seriously, it's a dynamite font. For realz.

    Not another one

The ipad pic is messing with the right hand column of the site. Looks messy

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:24

In the future, do Alex and Christine combine their website ownership and become Skynet?

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:25

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:28

Does Force India being realistic about predicting Australia's winner get counted as positive or negative points on Christine's Rankings?

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:28

And finally Christine has come up with a great idea:

    That's a bit harsh

Some days are approaching the teens [C] / low 60s [F]

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:33

What Olympic events are you booking Amy?

    Apart from Tennis, obviously

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:34

    Apart from Tennis, obviously

looking at one day each of swimming, diving, athletics, gymnastics and rowing + the opening ceremony

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:34

Some days are approaching the teens [C] / low 60s [F]

oh good. That's more like it, and good walking weather.

Like how I asked London what it's going to be like in Boston in 2 weeks? (3 hours away from me)

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 00:35

looking at one day each of swimming, diving, athletics, gymnastics and rowing + the opening ceremony

The opening ceremony is a good idea. If only to avoid Huw Edwards telling us what's about to happen and spoiling it.

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:35

Tomorrow, I have a meeting about washing Gas Turbine Jet Engines... on the inside

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 00:35

    Gavin brought me..

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:36

oh I want to know how, in case Delta needs me to do that for myself in the future, along with everything else.

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 00:37

The opening ceremony is a good idea. If only to avoid Huw Edwards telling us what's about to happen and spoiling it.

Seriously though that might be the only thing I apply for, good thinkign

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:37

Tomorrow, I have a meeting about washing Gas Turbine Jet Engines... on the inside

Apparently, it brings incredible cost savings. Who'd have thought they'd get so dirty

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:38

Seriously though that might be the only thing I apply for, good thinkign

I'm hoping the fact I can't get a cheap ticket means I won't have as much competition for a seat :D

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:38

oh I want to know how, in case Delta needs me to do that for myself in the future, along with everything else.

    :)

It's more of a rinse cycle really. Do you ever jet wash your car, it's similar to that with the engine spinning slowly minus the fuel and flames

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:39

    I bought Pamela..........

    .......out of lurkerdom.

    Gavin brought me..

Alianora is responsible for me being here.

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:39

Seriously though that might be the only thing I apply for, good thinkign

I applied for Beach Volleyball [when there was the free draw] which I think is in Horseguard's Parade where they change the guards

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:40

I'm hoping the fact I can't get a cheap ticket means I won't have as much competition for a seat :D

Why can't you get a cheap ticket?

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:41

It's more of a rinse cycle really. Do you ever jet wash your car, it's similar to that with the engine spinning slowly minus the fuel and flames

oh I've seen people doing that at airports.

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:41

Why can't you get a cheap ticket?

Occupational hazard for anyone not living in the EU.

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:41

Why can't you get a cheap ticket?

    they're only for uk residents

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:41

Alianora is responsible for me being here.

    How did it happen?

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:42

    they're only for uk residents

So tell me what you want? Will they have names on them?

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:42

So tell me what you want? Will they have names on them?

I don't know which is why I want to do it the proper way

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:43

Occupational hazard for anyone not living in the EU.

For an event that has 5 coloured rings to represent every Nation's flag in the world, that seems a bit exclusive

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:43

    How did it happen?

She mentioned sidepodcast to me on another site

  • lou17/03/2011 at 00:43

    I bought Pamela..........

    .......out of lurkerdom.

    Gavin brought me..

Alianora is responsible for me being here.

Christine brought me here.... from talking about the blog on the podcast ;)

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:43

For an event that has 5 coloured rings to represent every Nation's flag in the world, that seems a bit exclusive

especially since you'll never ever make even a fraction of the nations wasted billions back if you don't make it attractive to foreigners :D

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:44

oh I've seen people doing that at airports.

    That might be de-icing fluid

A compressor wash needs certain disconnections and then filter changes and a proving engine run afterwards

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:44

For an event that has 5 coloured rings to represent every Nation's flag in the world, that seems a bit exclusive

    Absolutely!

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:44

Christine brought me here.... from talking about the blog on the podcast ;)

    :D

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:45

Christine brought me here.... from talking about the blog on the podcast ;)

Me too. I think Christine might top the charts :)

  • Amy17/03/2011 at 00:45

    Absolutely!

but you must have seen the discussion here about how its too expensive, at least they're making an effort in some ways.

Like I said, you'll never make both sides happy.

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:45

I ambled over here, can't remember what link I used to do it, but it was Mr and Mrs C getting married that convinced me to stay (seriously, that was the first entry I commented on and I've been here ever since...)

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:46

I ambled over here, can't remember what link I used to do it, but it was Mr and Mrs C getting married that convinced me to stay (seriously, that was the first entry I commented on and I've been here ever since...)

You told me about it before that. Either that or I am confused

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:47

You told me about it before that. Either that or I am confused

Probably, but I've forgotten what I told you!

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:47

Probably, but I've forgotten what I told you!

That wasn't too clear. I meant I probably have told Steven before.

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:48

I cannot remember how I found you guys or when exactly it was, but I was looking at getting back into F1 after a long time away and I saw this site run by Christine and it looked intriguing, then I lurked for a while and you were all so funny and smart that I had to de-lurk myself. So it's everyone here that is responsible for me being here.

That wasn't too clear. I meant I probably have told Steven before.

I can't remember either. I know it was at the time Max was going after Martin Brundle and I was visiting every F1 site I could find and write comments telling people to support Brundle

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 00:53

I can't remember either. I know it was at the time Max was going after Martin Brundle and I was visiting every F1 site I could find and write comments telling people to support Brundle

You didn't anyone to volunteer to do it?

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 00:53

You didn't anyone to volunteer to do it?

I remember him trying to persuade me and quite a few others to help - quite successful persuasion I might add :D

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:54

You didn't anyone to volunteer to do it?

I volunteered everyone at every site I visited to write to the BBC or something and stir up a lot of noise.

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 00:54

Have you decided on train or car to Boston?

    Good luck Alianora

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 00:59

Have you decided on train or car to Boston?

No, I haven't had any time to even cook a meal in 2 days. :(

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 00:59

ALMS TV news for the season - there will be an ESPN Player in Europe later in the year, in the meantime there's a live feed on americanlemans.com. I know for Sebring, the Eurosport Player will have a commentary-free live stream (meaning you can run RLM along with it).

Australia and other places can see it on local ESPN sites.

    Night Alianora

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:01

    Ooh, that's not good

It's hell week here with standardized testing at school and an insane amount of stupid stuff going on in addition to that, and then I still am not totally back to normal physically since Prague. I'm almost there, though. Immune system took a beating there.

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 01:05

At least in MA you won't need a dietary exclusion translation :)

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:06

Exactly, and you can't say "oh hello there" to the piece of paper at every restaurant when I go to order. :)

Exactly, and you can't say "oh hello there" to the piece of paper at every restaurant when I go to order. :)

I was looking at the menus to the hotels 3 bars. I think we could get some good suggestions from the comments. It's traditional

    It was very cold

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:10

I did see that it will cost me $36 to go by train from New Haven to Boston, and is cheap and do-able, but then it may be nice to have the car there, and I don't think I'd make it to the airport in time to meet you guys.

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:11

And it the MiFi works we can live stream and comment at the same time :)

cool! Definitely. We better get a big enough table for everyone here to fit.

We should have a think and schedule something for Friday evening

  • Bassano17/03/2011 at 01:14

And I think our mission should be to combine http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast/ with http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston :)

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:15

Train is fine and it's no issue using public transport. Less money and hassle considering the parking charges

I'll take another look at the schedules and see what it would be in real time logistics, and how to get from Back Bay Train Station in the city out to Logan airport. I do want to be able to meet you guys at the airport.

what the heck is the "hbo window"?

Not all movies are available for streaming, and once they’ve appeared in the catalog, they may disappear for six to nine months during the HBO window, as the moguls call it.

  • Kai17/03/2011 at 01:40

what the heck is the "hbo window"?

is it when HBO runs the movies on their channel, they have exclusive rights to show it for a while? I never knew this, and I don't have HBO.

Possibly but it isn't a well-known entry list apart from Blundell and a few others, since they removed GT1. The 6Hr might be better with Audi/Peugeot/etc.

I can't find it on TV here. This doesn't actually mean I have to watch my little laptop screen for 12 hours??? What the hell?! I hope I missed it or something. It doesn't come up on a search of upcoming shows except for 1.5 hours on Sunday?

In the US it is on ESPN3.com - and for pretty much everyone it is online only in various places. Won't be on TV until highlights on ABC on Sunday afternoon.

  • Alex Andronov17/03/2011 at 07:20

love the daily via the ipad giggles. i'm curious why all the links are raw http links, style choice or device convenience?

Neither really... I ran out of time. I had collected all of the raw urls and turned them all into links on the iPad so no problem there And I kind of wrote my notes next to them as I was going along through the day. But then when it came to posting the daily I suddenly realised that I hadn't written the http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast site at all which might be a bit of a problem considering how heavily I was plugging it. So I just decided not to turn them into sentences. So yes it was a time thing and but not a time thing that was limited by the device if you see what I mean.

other than that, good work sir. how was it to write?

Well I don't think it would be my natural choice because Sidepodcast's site doesn't seem to be compatible with the wordpress app on the iPad which made things a little trickier. But yesterday I went to work, and a play and had to write the http://bringafriend.to/sidepodcast app so I used my time on the train to collect the links for the day. This, I realised, is something I've done a few times for the daily. The only difference was a few extra steps which I do usually do on the computer mainly because the wordpress site doesn't really seem to work well on the iPad.

So yes... six of one half a dozen of the other as with all iPad things at the moment. It was the right tool for the job when I was collecting links because otherwise I would have been wasting that time staring out of the window. But is it the most efficient way to make a daily? I'm not sure... But with a bit of practice I think I could actually make it better than the current desktop experience. I just need to find a few apps and things.

    So yes, interesting...

  • Alex Andronov17/03/2011 at 07:20

I must be a font geek because I clicked over to the Bring a Friend link and didn't even read it at first, I was like "whoa, what FONT is that?!" :D

yes we need those but I think the new rules could have been more flexible. the easiest way to go green would have been to limit the fuel available per certain distance (somewhere around half what they consume these days), allow each driver 4-5 engines per year (depending on number of races) and let the engine makers develop whatever engines or power trains they want.

  • Paul17/03/2011 at 08:42

Honda, Porsche, and Ferrari had 1.5L V6s.

  • F1Wolf17/03/2011 at 08:44

    And unlimited KERS. Please!!!

I would no limit anything other than fuel consumption, weight of car and number of engines per season. if someone decides to go with upgraded current V8 combined with unlimited KERS and someone else with V4 1.2l turbo without KERS, let's be it ...

  • RubberGoat17/03/2011 at 08:44

I don't see what the fuss is about Turbos TBH. OK, so they sound different, but the 80's F1 cars sounded great, so why won't they this time?

Hmmm. 1.6L, but rev-limited to 12000 RPM with power output of 600bhp. I think that's the key difference here. Those 80s engines revved up to 20000 RPM easily with power output of even beyond 1000bhp during qualifying.

    a) development is expensive but fuel saving technology would have road car relevance ...

    b) OK, the skyrocketing of costs could be prevented same as now - by setting a limit on price of the engines for teams. once you know the most you can get is 5 million x 10 engines x X teams x 2 cars x Y years on engine supply contract you clearly know how much you can afford to spend on development ...

  • Paul17/03/2011 at 08:49

I think they will always define the engin to prevent an "arms race" if someone comes up with a killer engine. Other than that, I agree. Just limit the fuel.

I have no issues with engine differentiation. That was how F1 was at the beginning anyway. Might even convince a manufacturer or two to return...

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 08:52

We wish! That's never going to be allowed though is it?

Current V8 also did 20,000 RPM (I believe Cosworth was the first one to achieve that) before the rev restrictions arrived ... They should not have limited the revs, teams would have to work out the limits themselvs to keep the engine life within the regulations (2 races, 3 races, 8 engines per year etc)

20,000? Are you sure? Because there was a big fuss that BMW were the first to get to that a few years back...

  • F1Wolf17/03/2011 at 08:53

We wish! That's never going to be allowed though is it?

probably not, but who knows, maybe, one day ... We could not imagine Mosley leaving and he did :-)

  • Paul17/03/2011 at 08:55

probably not, but who knows, maybe, one day ... We could not imagine Mosley leaving and he did :-)

Yeah that's true. But the FIA want to keep all the teams close in performance. They don't want to smaller teams to drop behind with some rubbish engine while Ferrari or whoever come up with something amazing.

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 09:00

20,000? Are you sure? Because there was a big fuss that BMW were the first to get to that a few years back...

I think so - because I remember there was a fuss there because it was a normally aspirated engine. Lemme check.

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 09:00

Current V8 also did 20,000 RPM (I believe Cosworth was the first one to achieve that) before the rev restrictions arrived ... They should not have limited the revs, teams would have to work out the limits themselvs to keep the engine life within the regulations (2 races, 3 races, 8 engines per year etc)

The reason I think the FIA put limits in is that if you don't give them a limit, they'll eventually get it above 20000 RPM while keeping within the current regs and maintaining reliability.

  • RubberGoat17/03/2011 at 09:01

It would be amazing if a turbo got to 20,000 for sure!

    You're right.

Interesting that there was a reason they couldn't get there - the lack of pneumatic valves. I wonder how high it can get now with those around...

Victoria's tourism and major events minister Louise Asher hosed down any suggestion the government's commitment was waning, and said officials would seek better terms with F1 management when entering negotiations in 2013 or 2014.

"We would like to (extend the contract), but we will sit down and we will negotiate about it," Asher told Reuters in a telephone interview on Thursday. "There's no doubt about it that the Victorian government would want to secure the Grand Prix."

"It's just that we're not going to be bunnies in contractual negotiations.

It's not the writing about Shell in exchange for going stuff.

It's the being told they will create custom content with us, finding out that's not the case, that only one of us can go to any of these places, that this Science Museum is a MUST when it has nothing to do with anything they said on the phone, that they require our shoe size without saying why, etc, etc.

It is fishy if you agreed to one thing and then they said it's another.

And you are right, some of that stuff sounds deathly boring...

  • Leigh O'Gorman17/03/2011 at 10:29

I thought she started F1Chat and then let F1blog take it over because she's a contributor to the site?

No idea. I don't use F1 blog at all to be honest.

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 10:29

Didn't she agree on that though?

Yes. But I thought it a bit odd.

Yes. But I thought it a bit odd.

I guess that was the deal. If she gave them F1Chat she could be a regular contributor to the site?

  • Christine17/03/2011 at 10:31

Anyways, I'm shoving Mr C out the door and then I must away to work. Talk to you all laters.

    I think so.

But I stopped paying attention to F1Chat when Peter Windsor appeared every week

I was just given a book for my birthday by work colleagues. F1 Encyclopedia. We tend to club together to get something decent rather than ten silly little things, someone yesterday got cake-making related things. :) Not to be ungrateful because it is very kind but I sort of use Forix..

And I have a meringue with cream with my tea.

"5 shows into the Oz tour and Ed has so far played 54 different songs which (I think) have been made up of 24 PJ songs, 11 EV originals and 19 covers"

I love not knowing what you're going to hear until you get there :)

A shame. But I guess there's no way he's taking his seat back from Ben Edwards...

Nothing I hate more than group photos at conferences. What's the point?

I was part of a project were someone suggested at every 6 monthly meeting to have a group photo - it was the same ten people every single time for goodness sakes

isn't it so nice that Journeyer is in the Philippines and doesn't have to fly alllll the way to London to be able to talk to Mr C?

You hollered? :D Ah! Mr C came back! They won't miss you, I'm sure.

It was crickety people and then when England, maybe, got, erm, bowled out? They threw back to Legard in a studio someplace.

Legard does cricket now? Somehow, I think the pace of that game suits him more. :)

No I have great looking hair ;)

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 13:56

I don't suppose Rubens did a Brazilian version

Surely he did one? Isn't he also a H&S endorser? He had it on his overalls at Florianopolis last year...

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 13:58

Evening All, I see Mr C is having Fun :)

  • RubberGoat17/03/2011 at 14:00

Have they managed to make that car stop setting fire to people BTW?

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 14:00

True, but you could include Malaysia and India in that group. And they need the publicity in Malaysia, too...

  • Nick17/03/2011 at 14:01

    am now :)

My arrival or did james allen start doing his photo montage commentary? :D

  • Journeyer17/03/2011 at 14:01

Yes but what's the point of that?

Maybe they want to meet the guard who told you off the last time you had a Sidepodmeetup there? :D

That was the Science Museum, right?

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 14:01

Yes but what's the point of that?

Ice-breaker? Lots of time to explain stuff while learning how the 24 people involved differ in the ways they interact, pay attention etc.?

    No idea TBH.

  • Nick17/03/2011 at 14:04

Id there a prize for going to this event?

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 14:04

Now that everyone is here in the room lets talk about the future of social media where things are shared over a thing called the INTERNET. This amazing new INTERNET is where people can meet in a social environment and exchange ideas and chat without being physically present. Oh wait I think I have invented irony.

    :D

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 14:06

Id there a prize for going to this event?

Not for going to this event on its own. There may be a prize for best reporter or something, but if so it'll be after the three trips plus whatever work they're meant to be doing alongside it.

  • Nick17/03/2011 at 14:06

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 14:09

    But she refuses to. Boo.

  • Maverick17/03/2011 at 14:14

    guilty.

but hey, at least i'm honest. i don't like james allen and don't want to talk to him. if edelman had been upfront and not said "we can't tell you who will be there". we wouldn't be discussing this.

I am now cheered up because fifth practise (or 1st practise, depending on how you count them) at Sebring's just started :)

  • RubberGoat17/03/2011 at 15:48

i never met anyone in ireland who'd agree with that sentiment. why the resentment?

    Here's why: http://twitter.com/#!/LPX_LOGorman/status/48385401773228032

  • Mr C17/03/2011 at 15:49

    Here's why: twitter.com/#!/LP…48385401773228032

another question then. how come no-one else i ever met in/from ireland felt the same? i assumed it was a nationally loved holiday. it certainly was by all i met.

  • Christine17/03/2011 at 15:50

another question then. how come no-one else i ever met in/from ireland felt the same? i assumed it was a nationally loved holiday. it certainly was by all i met.

Because not everyone in Ireland is the same. I think that is kinda the point :)

  • Leigh O'Gorman17/03/2011 at 15:51

i never met anyone in ireland who'd agree with that sentiment. why the resentment?

Depends where you go in Ireland. To be honest, I've never bought the "Oirishness" of the holiday. When I walk down streets in Dublin on Paddy's Day, I see bars rammed at 10 in the morning with people content to drink themselves dead for sixteen hours.

I see the streets littered with vomit, broken glass and broken teeth from non-stop fighting. A holiday sold by beer companies under the presence of religion.

another question then. how come no-one else i ever met in/from ireland felt the same? i assumed it was a nationally loved holiday. it certainly was by all i met.

Again, it depends where you go.

  • Mr C17/03/2011 at 15:52

i guess, but it's crazy popular, brings masses of tourist money and it's a celebration a national drink that's the best drink in the world.

it's like saying "i hate fluffy kittens", no-one really hates fluffy kittens :)

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 15:52

Me too except I have to stop after the first couple of hours to go to a Thai restaurant. Might return drunk in time for the finish. :)

I have yet to find anyone else who thinks St. Patrick's Day is supposed to be a beer festival. Even the students who used to drink themselves silly all day at university thought it was supposed to represent what was good about Ireland and that they just happened to care most about its beverages and certain of its legends...

  • Stuart C17/03/2011 at 15:55

Which is Paddy's Day always unfortunately.

Groups of people may binge drink. When it happens on mass, first thing in the morning, that's different.

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 15:58

I don't see how that's different from Binge drinking anywhere else really.

True. It sounds like Friday night in central Sheffield...

  • Alianora La Canta17/03/2011 at 16:00

Which is Paddy's Day always unfortunately.

Do we need to send round Sheffield students to teach people how to celebrate St Patrick's Day responsibly? That is one sentence I never thought I'd type, but it appears it would help...

  • RubberGoat17/03/2011 at 16:01

Here is your racing timetable for this week:

    - Sebring starts at 2.15pm UK Saturday. I got the time wrong the other day because of the DST change offset.

    - NASCAR Danica (her first time at Bristol, which if you don't know is a crazy place) should be at about 6pm Saturday.

    - NASCAR Cup race Sunday 5pm.

    - Crashed Ice 12.30am.

    - MotoGP Qatar Sunday 7pm.

    - GP2 Asia Imola Saturday 1pm and Sunday 1pm

    - WTCC Brazil Sunday 4pm and 5pm I think.

    - V8 Supercars in Adelaide 3am Saturday and Sunday.

Racing is back in business. :)

  • Christine17/03/2011 at 18:44

    Wowsers, thanks Pat! :)

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 18:49

    Wowsers, thanks Pat! :)

    No probs. :)

I'm planning to watch the start and finish of Sebring, Crashed Ice at the same time probably, and all of the MotoGP (its only 45mins).

Saturday's also the last day of the Six Nations though.

Yeah, I've ruled out Lancaster on location grounds (wouldn't want my mum coming down for a fun day out every weekend...) and I'm not that sold on Cardiff but yeah I do have good choices. I loved Southampton when I visited so Leicester is gonna have to be WOW to change my mind.

Ever seen space rain? This a tropical rainstorm on Saturn's largest moon Titan. The rain is a bit different to the kind we know. Titan is incredibly important as it is one of the most likely places in the solar system that there is life. To me it is utterly impossible that there is not life there or that it will not evolve there in the future.

That's amazing. It works like the water cycle here... but with methane. Methane rain.

Is methane a useful potential fuel..?

  • Maverick17/03/2011 at 21:05

Is methane a useful potential fuel..?

    yes

could do with getting rid of the methane we've already got, though - it's a potent greenhouse gas

    (can I blame dairy farmers? :-) )

  • Alison17/03/2011 at 21:06

Is methane a useful potential fuel..?

Not really. Too dangerous. Very high risk of explosions

  • Pat W17/03/2011 at 21:07

I managed to cook dinner with it and survive

But you can't store it in large volumes. You're gonna have a total disaster on your hands before long.

  • Maverick17/03/2011 at 21:15

But you can't store it in large volumes. You're gonna have a total disaster on your hands before long.

the natural gas storage facility at Rehden in Germany has a working gas volume in excess of four billion cubic metres

granted, they may have a total disaster at some point

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 21:16

Is methane a useful potential fuel..?

They have lakes of methane and ethane and who knows what else. Methane is the basis of the gas used in heating and cookers.

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 21:17

    (can I blame dairy farmers? :-) )

You can blame their cows. I don't think farmers produce any more methane than you or me

  • Maverick17/03/2011 at 21:17

the clever thing with methane is that you can react it with carbon dioxide to make stuff like petrol

  • Steven Roy17/03/2011 at 21:18

Not really. Too dangerous. Very high risk of explosions

    Not so

So yes... six of one half a dozen of the other as with all iPad things at the moment. It was the right tool for the job when I was collecting links because otherwise I would have been wasting that time staring out of the window. But is it the most efficient way to make a daily? I'm not sure... But with a bit of practice I think I could actually make it better than the current desktop experience. I just need to find a few apps and things.
