Hello. Wednesday again! Not long now until the season starts, so as the teams are packing up and shipping out to Australia, there isn’t much in the way of news. I do have some good links for you however ;)
Today’s Link-tastic Goodness
So… Let’s start with the Senna Movie. James Allen announced that there will be a special London Screening in May on behalf of the Grand Prix Mechanics’ Trust (who he is a patron of) that will include “…some of Senna’s mechanics, engineers and closest paddock friends will be there as will some well known faces from F1 past and present.” I am very keen to go, costs permitting. Meanwhile I have been recruited by Asif Kapadia (the director) to contact the local distributor to see if I can help get it released in Denmark. Wish me luck!
Charlie Whiting has written to F1 pass holders about the new adjustable rear wing system. Pat sums it up best: “They confirm the rules of the DRS / ARW (have we sorted the TLA yet?). To be honest there's not much we didn't already know, but what is now confirmed is that the TV people will be sent a signal so viewers will know who's activated their wing.”
If KERS and the moveable rear wing still confuse you, why not let Mark Webber explain it, in awesome HD :D
Speaking of HD, have you seen this BBC promo for the HD coverage yet? Or these fantastic fan-made F1 posters?
Speaking of fans, Eimze shared some great insight into how the drivers acted during F1 testing in Barcelona on Christine’s Driver Rankings. While we mention it, why not check out her Team Rankings, Tweets of the Week and a great F1 Big Picture bundle from testing.
ESPN F1 are launching an app and Karun Chandhok will be writing for them. I hope he gets back into an F1 car soon though.
Pat’s got his TMR post up for the week and as it’s Sebring, MotoGP and NASCAR this weekend there are plenty of drivers to choose from. Every now and then I will write a short post with some graphs that show interesting data from the game – But I am going to try and pick ex- or current F1 drivers just for a laugh. Speaking of which, Christine has a small update on IheartFranck ;)
I am going to blow your mind now. With all this talk of Brian Cox, sidepodspace and awesome TV programmes, I have found an interactive Scale of the Universe tool. Pretty cool huh?
How about something lighter, like Star Wars told in an Iconoscope format? Some would even argue the acting is better – the characters are at least two dimensional ;)
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost probably love Star Wars – so they tried to make their own version. Shame they only managed one scene (note there is a bleeped out swear word at the end)
If Facebook had been invented in the 1970’s, I wonder if it would have looked like this at all?
Mario has been with us since the 70’s – and over the years, the sadistic folks at Nintendo have been thinking of some rather creative ways of killing him!
These pics from an expedition to a lava lake are so cool – I love the colours! The team that did this are bonkers though!
WHOsdays are back and this time it’s the turn of the Brigadier.
As it’s “Hump Day”, you are probably feeling lazy. Here’s the best way how to do it…
Monday was Pi Day, and the Lego a Day blog had an awesome pic to celebrate!!!
Finally here’s a cool new version of the video game of Micro Machines – except you make the circuits. Could this be the next step for devices like the Kinect, perhaps?
So that’s all from me – have a great day and see you in the comments! :)
Hello Nu Daily
Meanwhile I have been recruited by Asif Kapadia (the director) to contact the local distributor to see if I can help get it released in Denmark. Wish me luck! {Original entry}
Ooh! Good luck, Gavin!
lovely
plumagelinkage.Well there you go. I applied for a job and wrote the daily in the same evening. Phew!
Ooh, what job, internal or external?
External. Think I need a change from what I'm doing.
That would be mighty, great suff. Best of luck with it
Nice
"but what is now confirmed is that the TV people will be sent a signal so viewers will know who's activated their wing"
this is great news. i can't figure how it'll be sent to tv graphics and relayed to us fast enough to fathom, but it's a start.
It can't be used until Race Control tells the driver. All it would take is for a signal to be sent to TV Central at the same time.
won't it be a split second before it's enabled, and then another second before it's closed again?
i'm imagining a flash of a wing icon appearing and disappearing almost instantly. no?
Loads of links! I've only checked a few so far but I like the one about laziness.
The TV companies will be winging it for sure ;)
doh! :)
It goes up 600m (or slightly closer) to the corner and released at the braking zone. It should be engaged for several seconds.
Instapaper rocks for collecting links - I've been doing so since Sunday and all I have to do to save it is click one button!
Same way KERS is, or push-to-pass in A1 or wherever. The info will be available to the gallery almost instantaneously. We're gonna have to rely on the TV people realising it and putting the right graphic up. A1GP had a dedicated graphic.
For the love of God, look what my friend did with her iPad! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/198003_10150443100280722_751835721_17779783_298683_n.jpg
No the 1sec thing was about the measurement between cars, not the length of time the wing works
Good job Legard was fired then
"Look at that! What's that flash on the screen for?"
ahhhh.
The distance is 600m, according to the vid and the JAF1 article.
Ooh, it's got Windows on it :D
(This excites me because there are 5 operating systems for my PDA and messing about with that sort of stuff sounds cool to me)
The time gap will be measured at turn 14 in Melbourne, that's the left of the left-right near pit entry. Cars within 1sec will be able to use the wing, but not until they get past the last corner. They say 600m from the braking zone (or was it the apex?) of turn 1, but I think that'll be lengthened after testing in FP1 / FP2.
Took a screenie of Windows, copied it to iPad and viewed fullscreen? :)
running vmware?
Sort of, yes
I mean the client for the ipad
Yeah, I gotcha. Am looking for the article. It could be Citrix's "Go To My PC"
So jpan, will it be SidepodColorado next year? ;)
you'll need your own tour bus soon.
Tony Fernandes better watch out
Air Bassano: bring your own aspirin
Yup.
Perhaps around the Pikes Peak Hill Climb? (I might actually make it to the one this year, but I doubt it, probably be houseless at that time)
We're actually getting the house ready to put on the market right now. Should be ready in a few weeks.
:) :) :) :)
Sounds stressful, you should take a break for a day ;)
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/SidepodBoston
I love that scale of the universe link in the post.
WHo knew there were 7 metre long earthworms?
hahaha.
All our money is going towards moving, too, I'm afraid, even if most of it's being paid for (the new carpet and paint aren't unfortunately)
I understand... this time :D
Hello mr. c abouts ?
coding, but yup. wassup chappie?
Hello mr. c abouts ?
coding, but yup. wassup chappie?
I need to figure out a way of transffering two silly soirt of F1-related photos from facebook to flickr, if that's possible. Could have done it the easy way but I am not sure which of eight HDD the photos live in so facebook to flickr should be the easier way.
Any non - "C" (programming language) pointers would help..... :P
never tried that. does the old:
facebook.com > right click > download image > flickr.com > upload image
not work?
:D
The market has enough room for both business models
I'll likely focus on the liquid leisure market ;)
just doing some code tweaking, comments may be wonking for a few mins.
Or wonky? :D
Maybe the comments will be breaking themselves until Mr C tells them to behave themselves in his sternest voice?
blimey. that coulda been a typo and a half.

Not as well as I would like. It saves the images as *j-pegs only. Works for want I currently want....
Anyway, heard that you guys where wondering what stores F1 drivers would own if they retired:
Well, Button does own a Button shop....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367731/
And here's a gun shop owned by a certain German....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordan_f1/5530367773/
My apologies to First Officer Lou. I thought JYS got airsick one of Sidepodcast Airways flights when Lou disenaged the autopilot to test the Osprey aerobatic parameters....
Ooh it's only a week until Joe night. How is this race sneaking up on me so quickly?
that's very cool. we need to plug that in a post too i think. must squeeze it in tomorrow.
I am going to plug many Melbourne things in my daily on Saturday. Mostly the 2nd Annual Sidepodbreakfast :D
I'm mostly excited about getting my hands on my Fanvision on Thursday though.
ahhh, thanking you.
oooh, now i am too!!
oooh. Nice! A bit annoyed they've gone back to being at all races this year - I really wanted one in China last year. :|
I'm mostly curious as to how much their access fee per race will be in 2012. Although in this time of "the Olympics cost how much?" it looks like Melbourne will be my only race next year.
In a reverse of the stereotype, my mum was shocked to learn today was her wedding anniversary :D
Morning all
OOPS. :D
then dad got the number of years wrong, I had to correct him :D
the one who wasn't there corrects the groom and the bride. HA! :P
I had no idea it was today, but I do remember the year simply because when I turned 21 my mum kept saying 'I got married at 21!'
Hows your wedding planning going?
Wow. That's early!
I'm surprised you remember that. No one else took notice around here. :) Date was decided long ago. We've made our decision on the church - we'll book it on Saturday. We'll decide on the reception once we've seen the other bidder on Saturday too. It's a crucial weekend for our wedding. :)
Monaco, right?
heheh you were always very subtle :D good luck this weekend : then!
I wish. HAHAHA! Working on a very tight budget, so must make the most of it. :)
That said, if we planned this correctly, our wedding date is not only our anniversary as a couple, it falls right smack into the F1 summer break. w00t!
Well good luck. My brothers wedding last year was great, and we(the family) mostly did it ourselves
thanks so much! really appreciate it. :) i'd ask the C's how they planned their wedding, but we're not doing ours on a boat... :D
Timing is everything!
if I've learned anything from the bride that I am -maiding for, it helps to have a cousin who is a jeweler. She has the nicest ring out of all the engaged people I know and it cost the least out of all of them :D
That's my only wedding tip :)
Thanks, Paul! It's an adventure, I'll tell you that. :) Any tips you can share?
Hahaa
just got this in my e-mail from a spammer:
"I've enjoyed looking through your Website, especially the "nascar or auto racing blogs".I’m the editorial assistant for a auto insurance site..."
Yeah, because I write loads of NASCAR stuff.
#SpamFail
I don't have any jeweler cousins. Rats. :| We will make full use of our network to get the best ring for the best price, though. :)
Marvellous and congratulations!
Thanks, Alia! Really appreciate it. :)
Me? Nope.
From what I have seen though - do what you want, not what you think people expect. My brother had an outdoor ceremony (my mum almost fainted), had a reception in a hall, we all cooked, and did our own entertainment, and friends did the filming and photography.
Very important, I agree. Thanks, Paul! :)
Oh yeah, and they bought all the clothes direct from china over the Internet :-)
It'll be great!
China?? Not a lot of inexpensive tailors there?
I think the point was: we're only wearing these once, no point spending heaps, as long as they look good. ;-)
All depends on what you want
That's true. But I'm surprised that's actually cheaper than getting it made locally in your case.
We're getting ours made locally.
Have you seen what people charge when you say "wedding"!!!
My friend was flicking through bridal magazines in a cafe when the guy behind the counter came over and asked who was getting married, then asked if she needed a caterer and after she said no he asked if she needed a cake. which she did. So because weddings are not his day job, just a hobby, she has ended up with a very reasonable price on an amazing croquembouche cake. Masterchef has a lot to answer for.
Planning? Nah. Book a holiday. Job done.
:-)
Niiiiice! Good on the guy for stepping up, good on your friend for getting an amazing deal. :D Now if only someone would do that here... ;)
HAHA! :) Our families would have none of it, though. :D
Yea, I hear that a lot.
Can they bake? ;-)
Ummm... errr... nope? :D
I wasn't sure I'd trust a random guy to make a croquembouche, they look difficult, but he had a portfolio of photos of other ones he'd made before and they did look good.
So... was it delicious?
My ideal wedding would be me, the groom, one bridesmaid, one groomsman, and our parents to watch. The end. I don't want people at my wedding. I don't like people. Plus people cost money and that would take money out of my Monaco honeymoon budget.
That's fantastic :)
the wedding is in October, stay tuned for the ending to the story :D
Croquembouche has to be a made up word.
those crazy French people
Apparently Sebring will be on Eurosport for anyone who cares.
AHA. You MUST tell us how this ends. :)
Another thing to blame on master chef
Never heard of it myself. :D
Neither had anyone at all in Australia or New Zealand I reckon, then they made them on Masterchef last year and suddenly they were at every wedding since.
Hahaha! We have some ideas on what cake we want, actually. We'll see what the prospective suppliers can propose. :)
I would like to vote for 'not a fruit cake'
Gross.
My sister made an amazing "corpse bride" wedding cake:
https://picasaweb.google.com/pfreeland99/WeddingCake#
Hahaha! It depends on how it's put together. We tried some samples at the wedding expo last weekend - they were pretty good.
We're not choosy on the flavor - we'll decide on that later. :)
NICE! :D
oooh thats cool
It was. It got a bit of a "slide" going in the warm weather though :-)
sweet
:)
Interesting article for Nick (and Alison too):
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2011/04/dubai-201104
Thats not very flatering is it?!
Nope, not at all. Which is why I shared the link with them. I'm hoping Nick can tell me what's good about Dubai, because there was nothing good about it in the article.
I've found just the thing for GMM: the Campbell Reid Perpetual Trophy for the Brazen Recycling of Other People's Work. I never knew there were "prizes" for plagiarism...
Love media watch.
It always has fun with the local "tabloid" news programs
all the other people I know who moved to Dubai say the good thing is "we don't pay tax here"
that article may be pointing out what is wrong with Dubai but find the tone and style a bit too viscious. sounds like written by somebody who went there hoping to become rich and failed ...
sounds like every worker is a prisoner to their employer. each to their own though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._A._Gill
Happens the world over sadly.
#nopolitics
Ah. Not the best judge of character, then.
not the nicest person in the world, no.
Not really. I remember when he used to write for the Sunday Times Magazine. He's blustery nature could be quite off-putting
I've got my Fisi-supporting top washed ready for the rest of Sebring - just need it to dry before tomorrow night :)
In other news, I've got job interview practise tomorrow morning (no actual job involved as far as I know, but getting better at interviews will be good).
i've got to write a presentation for a job interview and not feeling overly creative
in fact, I should put myself down on the shoo'ing list come to think of it
Shoo!!
Morning. Off sick today :(
Oooh - I got that one too!
yeah congrats from me too!
Thanks, Gavin! :)
Me three.
Sorry, fro the late info. no Spanish Daily today. swamped with work :(((( I try to do it on a different day this week. saludos! I am off again, have a great day, people!!
Aww, no problem Amanda. It's okay to miss a week if you are swamped. Although Mr C will have a week without a Wednesday in it :)
Heya guys. Just saw this incredibly sweet Lotus photo and had to share :)
I love their doggies :)
Those bomberman style dolls are awesome. If they made more F1 figurines out of those I would buy them!
Author aside, it was very interesting. I would love to hear what Nick and Alison think of it.
On another note, I bought Alan Whicker's autobiography last year and I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I'm currently reading a very interesting book on social networks...
Radio 2 just said Greggs have recorded epic profits. I havent been to Greggs since I left work. Mmmm.
knew you were leaving work and your nearby Greggs so I thought I would buy double the amount to make up for your loss of Greggs. Then I got confused and bought double that, ending up with 4 sausage rolls a go. Damn you Maths, you win again.
Hehe, that's a maths fail that turns into a win.
The best kind of fail :)
Although when I got some munch in (a new) Greggs in Cardiff yesterday I found their till system very odd. You got your sausge roll from the counter in a queue then had to go to another queue to the other side of the shop to pay for it.
I mean, I know Greggs loves it's queues but...
Sounds like Argos!
Yeah it was odd. I was very confused when I was offering my money and Mrs Greggs behind the counter was like, 'No not here, pay over there'. It was just as confusing as the first time I had the witnessing of a purchase at the apple store.
Tills in their pockets. What a world we live in.
:D
I want to an Argos-esque off-licence in Canada. It had the 'big shelf of dreams' rather than the 'big book of dreams' but your purchase came down the same set of rollers elsewhere in the shop
The key question reminds though... was the shelf laminated?
Coool!
Also, shoo.
I'm not here
Afternoon all.
Neither am I.
this is my kinda party.
(not here either)
Hello Mr Stuart
A party?? Where..? Where??
a party that no ones at by the look of things
A party where you come to get shooed away. :D
I've just become aware of another abysmal F1 news site (the notification that they were following me on Twitter was, appropriately enough, in my Spam folder). Check it out. It's truly terrible.
http://f1paddock.biz
It's a bit ugly
That's more headers than a game of football.
The URL alone looks awful already. I mean, .biz? Really?
boo-yaahhhhh
:D
Not-so-regularly updated with GMM clutter. :|
That's written by a child, right?
I love this bit in the top-ish right
It's just makes me wanna....... wow, is that the time?
Mark Blundell done what is thought to be a return: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89965
great pic BTW!
Aye - he was tweeting about it when it was announced, but I heard after the Miami race that he was seriously considering it
He should go for it. He's clearly still got what it takes.
Hmm.... a colleague of mine has just informed me that Craig David is trying for another comeback
I like how they keep chopping the top of Sebastian's head off
So we still don't have a corner named after Sir Jackie Stewart then? http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89964
Made a comback on monday, made a comeback on tuesday, we were making comebacks on wednesday, and on thursday and friday and saturday gave up on sunday
it uses F1 Minute :-)
Things getting worse in Japan now?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12307698
Not a single one? In any major circuit??
Don't think so.
Apparently not. What did he do wrong?
And it's not like he's faded into obscurity, either. The only thing I can think of is his term as BRDC president a decade or so ago. How did that go?
I don't think he was too popular.
I like March. Cake this morning. Doughnut with cream this afternoon.
Melbourne does
He's still alive
Thought that was named after Patrick Stewart
;)
He had the driving part of his career about a decade too early...
So are most of the others named as Snetterton corners?
iOS games PING!
http://toata.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/170-some-more-ios-games-reccomendations/
I'm just glad Nelson was named after Horatio and not Piquet Jr!
I don't think anyone would dare call a corner after Jr. now...
Turn 17 at Singapore?
it's got legs. just needs a catchy name and a logo.
The authorities got so embarrassed at us calling it that that the corner no longer exists due to the 2010 track modifications. Though I see your point ;)
I just got the panda one recently. Will have to try out the rest :)
Shoopodcast!
But then that sounds like schupodcast... which means...
....WHAT HAVE I DONE!?
:)
Have been playing it yesterday and today and I really like it. I'm a sucker for cutesy graphics though.
Really recommend the movie cats one for movie related fun, it has a remarkable ability to make you feel stupid through the form of cats.
You may have just created the best Sidepodcast spinoff EVER. :D
Where's jackie when you need her to make a religion ti distract such an idea :)
Although this pretty sums up my usefulness at it :)
I get that every day.
Thanks Lukeh!
Have you tried the two Where's Wally/Waldo games on the App Store? Can't quite remember how much, but I think they're well worth it. :)
Hehehe. Jackie won't dissuade me! :P
Hey Stuart! :) Hope you're doing great. Any blog entries coming up soon? :D
I haven't, nope. May give them a look in too :)
Do try them out. They're amazing! :)
Do enjoy a bit of Wally. Gets himself into such palava though, I'm sure he must have an app on his phone to help him get around easier and not get lost.
Well I’ve been flat out on book number three, which is coming out six months earlier than I’d thought, plus someone is trying to tempt me back into full time employment. But I’m going to a Shell shindig tomorrow night (Mr C and Christine may even be in attendance!) and have a couple of things lined up that will be going on the blog soon. Been so busy recently that by the time I have the opportunity to write about anything the moment has passed…
Hmmm. I'm not sure if Mr C and Christine have shared that with us... ;) But I do hope your blog gets updated sooner rather than later... :D
actually wasn't looking forward to it at all, until you just wrote that comment.
♥ other mr c.
not much to share. only one of us is allowed to attend. so i've drawn that short straw.
You sound so incredibly excited
:)
Mitsubishi Electric will be a technical partner with Sauber with immediate effect...
Surprising that it's business as usual for some Japanese companies
morning = a chat about social media (been there, done that)
afternoon = science museum (been there done that)
we asked to be excused, but they were kind of insistent. they won't tell us who's going to be there (i didn't know stuart would be). all very weird.
Interesting that they were so insistent. Are you sure you're not giving the speech about social media?
;)
i charge for that :)
Be careful what you wish for, you may just get a blank cheque
:)
I can only go to the dinner because I’m booked in elsewhere for the two days.
Tush, Mr C! You’re going on a jolly and quite a lot of it will be interesting. Obviously they want you to write about them – but hey ho, they have a good product. It’s not like you’re going to stay at Idi Amin’s house!
Meanwhile, the unemployed one ends up doing a day at work. We've got this all wrong somehow :)
Hehehe!
I think perhaps they just sold it to us differently.
ahh, i'm certain to skip that bit.
i'm a busy man!
:)
i do transparency, these people are not transparent.
it's like some kind of secret society. weirdos.
sounds like it could be some james bond type thing
the meeting is in a hollowed-out volcano?
Jake Humphrey just tweeted a new BBC F1 video: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9421060.stm
Smile and the whole world smiles with you. Maybe we can record a podcast while on one of these jollies. Inside the hollowed-out volcano...
Hmmm... whenever I think of those talk things, I think of this guy
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e_QRSvPmeZA/TDeAcdcCqBI/AAAAAAAAAQM/dBki6b96bsA/s1600/Scorpio+flamethrower.png
We must book you in for a Skype chat about these new books of yours soon.
and with that, I'm off. See you later folks. Enjoy the Shell shindig Stuart / Mr C
And I now have Skype! Haven't bought a headset yet, though. Will I sound like Joe/Cher?
Absolutely, we can even dig out an autotuner if it sounds too professional :)
Hello, good evening. Busy day so not much commenting from me, even lurking. Just catching up now. :)
I wonder how many callers to Sidepodcast pretend to be Madonna and how many pretend to be in Mission Control. Gotta be one or the other.
Oh wow, congrats. I must have missed that before. :)
Pingu: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=6008
They can't force you to go.. can they? :)
well, we kinda said yes. although what we said yes to wasn't this.
i'll blog all about it once it's over, i expect to spend about 15 mins discussing social media with people who just learned what a hashtag is. then i'll leave.
AMY!!!!! http://www.teamlotus.co.uk/news/2011/ausgp-garage-tour
Nice one
I bought a new motorsports book today. It's called Ten Little Racing Cars. It's a tale of a race of high attrition as the cars all retire one-by-one until only one is left.
Thanks
:D
Idi Amin. What a reference. :P
Thanks, Pat! :)
hehe.
seriously though. anyone who knows anything about sidepodcast knows there's two of us. did renault say 'only one of you can come look at our bunker?'
buy BP says i.
Odds are she's already a member of that community, anyway. ;)
I'm betting Amy gets a tour even if she doesn't win. Just because she's Amy. :D
so these aren't the same folks you met at Silverstone last year?
too bad they don't do F1. :D
yeah they are, but imagine if i went to the ferrari garage and met rob but christine didn't.
i think there should be a sidepodcast rule for marketing people. both of us or none of us.
Havent they seen the slogan?
sidepodcast - all for f1, f1 for all!
agreed. i think i'll cancel, nothing about it sounds like a good idea.
unless anyone else fancies talking social media in london for the day on behalf of sidepodcast?
I've been trying to think what it is they actually want. It must be a launch of some kind.
it's just weird. they saw you last year, so surely they know you guys are a package deal?
how i wish i could. :| maybe alex? ;)
nothing like that, here's a good explanation: http://daslebenistmeinponyhof.digital-dictators.de/2011/03/15/ubermorgen-gehts-ans-elementare-beim-shell-v-power-network-of-champions-svpchamps/
essentially plug shell in return for a trip to maranello, abu dhabi and... thorton.
great, great, and... what? :D
Ohh right.
shell research lab. i'm interested in that. i'm not so fussed about spending tomorrow in london.
i need a proxy, i'm anonymous, who'd know?
Your voice is well known
...shooot!
Of course you could have coded a voice modifier to help your anonimity
lack of foresight there.
The proxy only has to talk without using capitals
I mean the voice we all know may be the modified one so no-one knows the real one
:)
oooh.
:D
I have had an idea!!
(uh oh)
We'll be doing some of our regular race preview stuff ahead of each GP, but following on from Lukeh's most excellent BE POSITIVE post, I wondered about the idea of having a different person do a positive preview ahead of each race - be it because they have been there and it's awesome, or they just particularly like the track, or the championship is hotting up, whatever.
Just an idea. Shoot me down in flames or set up a wiki page for volunteers. Either way :)
Don't. Trust me on that one.
I'm in.
oh. walk then?
I think that sounds like an awesome idea personally.
Hey everyone... Just gathering things for the daily post (on the iPad ;) ) I have gathered most of the links that have been pinged in todays daily but I just wanted to check if anyone was hoping for a special extra thing?
bike. :D
I love that idea
No, just don't buy BP fuel please.
I like it for sure.
Hi people.
I'd love to shoot you down in flames, but it sounds excellent. :D
Oooh Christine's idea needs plugging. If we set up a wiki page in advance then that would be awesome :)
have you gathered the links on a proper computer? am excited to see how it'll all come together.
I'd do it. The only issue would be me saying before this post that I'm only doing it for the trip and that you don't have to read it ;)
I have to go make Mr C food before he withers away to nothing. If it's not there by the time I get back, then I'm on it :)
i don't have moral obligations to selling out for a free trip to italy. i just don't have time to go!
*objections.
By the way gavin that home made micro machines is actually insane. it blew my mind to pieces earlier watching it!
I like it.
ALWAYS the most important word. How do you dooo that?
I have done almost everything on the iPad. There is one thing that I have done, which will be linked to in the daily but will not be in the daily per say that I have done on a "proper" computer. But when you see it I think you will understand why :)
Because of the Gulf of Mexico spill?
Same here. I tried to do that for real on a desk at home when I was a kid. When my mum saw the mess I got a clip round the ear and was told to tidy it up!
:D freudian slip?
Actually, here's what the page will be: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews
Link away. Will fill it in later :)
Thank you :)
I used to do it on my brother snooker table at our old house but I'd always get in a strop and try to run over his cars with snooker balls.
#bad6yearoldsportsman
nice one.
And Texas City. Probably can't say much other than I won't be after reading and looking at all the reports...
Kinda figured after that discussion the other day that Alex would be determined to do that. Well done sir!
Although in retrospect Micro Machines does that so I'm not in the wrong :)
Made a table :)
ah
I've also edited the Questions for Joe page, but I don't fully understand how hyperlinks work in Wikis so I have made a bit of a hash of it: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Questions_for_Joe
WOW. Paul-Henri Cahier actually liked my Mark Webber caption. Amazing. :) It's on his FB page.
Anyway, off to bed now. Night, folks!
cool :)
Which is why I didn't post it initially - so it wouldn't be too easy to find. ;)
oh.
i didn't know that we didn't know?
i'll remove it.
I knew it anyway - from Fantasy Racers. Been trying to find you on Facebook for ages ;)
Marvellous.
I was trying to find YOU on Facebook for ages. Hahaha! :)
Now, how about Amy... :D
https://www.facebook.com/amyfulton
Kinda leaked out initially in Fantasy Racers, as Gavin said. Fixed it for this year.
Marvelous. Ta.
I actually already added her. I don't think she recognized my name, though. :D
Hehe. I suppose you could have asked here - I assumed you weren't on FB or you didn't want to be found!
Should have been obvious though: https://www.facebook.com/RubberGoat
so that's who that is in by Google address book!
you know that you've been appearing on the sidepodcast sidebar for ages though?
What do you mean by the sidebar? on the homepage?
on every page. people's faces appear who've liked sidepodcast.
I wasn't on FB until last November. :)
Now why didn't I think of that... :D
Ahhh! Yeah, I knew that. But you wouldn't know which one of them was me. ;)
I see - that's kinda random who appears there though.
That was after I looked - I checked about a year ago.
ah phew. okay.
I tried looking for you in December - with no luck. Hehe.
Gavin, you are a star! Thank you. :)
Have tweaked it slightly, so races don't forgotten. I can already imagine some won't get volunteers :)
http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews
You're welcome. There are probably more too...
No! Like what?
In the spirit of being positive, I won't name names :)
Who's going to be the first volunteer?
Excellent. Looks much better!
And Journeyer, don't worry too much about being outed on Facebook, people here are very respectful of pseudonyms and stuff ;)
I'm not worried about that. I trust you guys. It's the ones I don't know who I'm worried about. :)
Should really get some sleep now. Night, folks! :D
See ya man
Night mr J
Night
Dear Student Loan website. Why must you be so crash happy? Are you hosted on media temple?
I just ran into some twittter https problems. Every time I tried to access the new Virgin account I got a message about a technical fault. When I changed my settings so that it would not default to https it worked immediately.

Hello all. It is possible that I am now officially over excited about SidepodBoston. I have my travel authorization from Us Homeland Security so it's beginning to feel like it's actually going to happen.
Really looking forward to meeting Kai & hope we can meet Scott too :)
Pat, in your TMR game, are points scored by class or overall?
Overall.
I don't know if anyone has Sidepodspaced this or not: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/03/for_discovery_a_farewell_spin.html but it should be repeated anyways :)
It'll be fantastic, quite a big thing to go over just to meet up like that
I had the most fun reading up on MotoGP testing
Not quite sure whats happening in #4 but I approve :)
Sounds really great
That's more than I've done. :)
braver than me. hope you enjoy it
I like #5. Peekaboo over a cloud of its own creation.
Sidepodspaced out??? Is that possible?
The Soyuz carrying three members of the ISS crew landed safely today
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/living/index.html
it's probably as much a waste of time as reading up on F1 testing anyway :-)
I've spent a lot of my life not doing things. This year I've decided to go for it even though I'm nervous. Trying to "feel the fear & do it anyway" before I really am too old. Going with Bassano helps, he's good at encouraging adventure (especially with Guinness).
Really great pictures. I was telling my friends about this site at the weekend. They always have such fabulous images.
Going with Bassano = Alcohol will be drunk at some/every point.
I hope so ;)
I think number 8 is my favourite of that series of pics from Boston
That was a mega slide show!
you're going to boston? o.m.g!!
Yay, RG wins! http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews
Wow... f1 2010 just won best sports game at the gaming baftas. That is all kinds of mental, it beat FIFA, Pro Evo, Gran turismo 5, etc...
I wonder what the criteria was? Who normally wins that one?
FIFA usually, GT5 was expected this year as it's GT. Pretty shocked!
I'm on the Wiki page ;).
I did that today, at some point. I think it was today anyway.
Are the judges F1 fans?
Well neither of those two offer nothing new and F1 2010 is the first in the series, so maybe that helped?
i'm barely keeping up with 20% of the comments at the moment. having a busy month. good to hear though, that'll be the best meetup ever!
GT5 was a bit meh for me.
Also it's been a while since the last F1 game
Hehe :) Still a big surprise considering some of the name's it was up against and a big boost for the f1 games future too...
Same here. 5 years of development for that?
It's the same game, much like FIFA is.
Would have to agree to disagree personally
My mate buys FIFA every year and it's the same controls, mostly the same teams, some gimmicks and slightly improved graphics. Hardly worth shelling out £50 IMO
From what I have seen of GT5 it's very much an add on pack to GT4.
Off to bed. Goodnight all.
See ya Janna
Added an intro as well: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Positive_Previews
the online play was disappointing. hardly got into the game.
f1 has been more fun in arcade mode. starting from the back, getting to the front. it made some of the tilke tracks bearable.
Night Janna
For me FIFA has gone forward more and more each year. Compare it to 4 years ago and it was struggling behind Pro Evo. EA have really made big changes to the game and that's why it's the biggest footballing game again after falling behind Pro Evo for a decade or so.
I can see what you mean with the yearly update type of thing but to me it's always worth it with FIFA because it feels like a better game each year to play. It'll be the same with F1 2011 and I'm more than happy to welcome a similar game made better with further development and whatnot.
GT5 was just a disappointment full stop though.
goodnight Janna
Night janna :)
See ya.
Cool. While I see the improvements, I don't play these games enough to shell out for the new one so I tend to stick with the old one and change every 3 years or so. The PC versions have been very dull until 11 though - there's definitely more effort put into the console version.
See you Janna
oooh why am I not a member there *joins*
Now how can we rig it so I win?
Hehe.
Yeah definitely. It's a far bigger market for them though on consoles, most football fans and general gamers wouldn't dare think of playing a football game like that, or most sports games, with a keyboard and mouse even though you can get control pads. The only major sports title that really sells like crazy I can think of related is obviously Football Manager but on the reverse that can hardly do amazing on consoles because of the type of game it is.
Do they not know I devote hours and hours and hours and hours* of my life writing and educating the world about their Finnish hero?
* (10 minutes or so a month)
That struggled on the XBox simply because they couldn't find a logical way to make it work as well on console as PC/Mac/PSP. Though there always used to be LMA Manager...
it adds up to hours eventually though so you're right :)
Agreed. FIFA sucks with a keyboard so I bought an Xbox controller.
Yeah I remember playing it on the Xbox but it was a pain to control, a real pain. LMA was good though, just not as in depth. Thought it had a nice slot in the market between pick up and play and proper sitting there for hours but shame it got canned :(
i got one for trackmania
This has to be a contender for tweet of the week, considering how full of innuendo it is: http://twitter.com/#!/rubarrichello/status/48142977956200448
Oo-er!
Course I recognised your name :D I'm just bad at adding people on Facebook. I currently have 8 pending friends, one day I'll deal with them.
Has he deleted it? No result found
Spam them with Heikki daily links
Petri read them, he could have put in a good word for me. But now he's gone :(
Gavin made rubens laugh!!!!
Looks like it - he was talking about golf but it came out all wrong. Something about a stiffer shaft making the balls go to the right... OMG he replied!
so awesome. You made rubens laugh :o
Mind==blown!
boo lotus, your email is broken
Facebook'em?
, Danno

they'll see it on twitter
Hehe :)
Oh speaking of which - my angry tweet worked! My phone was working again by the time I got home ;)
Have finally put together a much needed guide to help everyone understand the rear wing rules in 2011. It helps me a lot.
hooray!
I learned a lot from that. Makes more sense than anything the FIA has said
So simple when you realise!
fbfb is ready for red nose day: http://factbytefactbox.com/live
who has their noses?
It's doing red nose day then 12 hours of Sebring?
yep. hence why i'm gonna have a breakdown over this shell thing :)
Is it this weekend too? I wasn't really paying attention to that conversation earlier as I only caught the end of it
tomorrow & friday.
Two days? I am sure it will be worth it.....erm..... :)?
I didn't realise it was two days.
the interesting thing is on friday (science stuff). meeting people in london is tomorrow.
having to do all red nose prep today. grr.
My Singapore hotel still hasn't taken any money from me. I didn't realise it was so hard to pay for things :D
I'm not so panicked this time though considering that they have now confirmed my reservation in writing twice.
what like making a nose icon? :)
I have nose icons. They're AWESOME! :)
Hehe :)
:D
fail to prepare, prepare to fail. or something.
...
i make have broken the fbfb when moving servers at the weekend. it's touch and go if it'll be working. p.a.n.i.c.
