It's Wednesday and that means we are about halfway through the week already. I had to break open the F1 Happy Place yesterday, but the good news is that it mostly worked, and I do feel a bit happier about F1. It's still rubbish, but at least there are good times to remember! Anyway, here are some other things we're talking about:
- I missed this when it was posted, because it was hectic busy at Sidepodcast Towers, but I love this idea from RG, comparing the new teams in a championship all of their very own. The premise is simple - the drivers in the new teams get points based on the order they finish, no matter where they are in the overall result itself. Interesting idea and I'm curious to see what will happen at the next race.
- I don't quite understand why Button is having to defend himself already. Fair enough, Lewis got on the podium but it wasn't exactly looking likely to begin with and the word lucky springs to mind. If his confidence was seriously dented after just one race, then he would be in for a really long season.
- Bernie Ecclestone has jumped to the defense of F1, saying we shouldn't jump to conclusions, submit to knee-jerk reactions, and make any rash changes. He thinks that teams will get the hang of racing under these new regulations and maybe just some tweaks to the tyre rules would help. Ahh, all about the tyres as per usual!
- Also, just a quick note: Sofa F1 Championship 2010 - Round 1. This is not a good start for me. Well done to Alison though!
It's St Patrick's Day today, and I believe there is meant to be a Sidepodmeetup in our capital city today, although I don't know if it's still on. Sadly, we can't be there, but we will be in the comments, as always.
PIIIIIIING
fir... oh, second.
Awwwww I'm famous :D
You got a mension in the daily, you have officially made it!
Well done. I have work to do..
laters pat.
I was referring to my points but anyway.. :)
I should sleep but I can't. Too awake.
oh.
sorry.
He's trying to get rid of you :P
pre-emptive shooing
I must be being annoying. :)
this is something i won't live down for a while, isn't it?
I thought he was going as well. I think we'll just have to say you're more polite than me in that you said bye :P
love it :)
I don't care, I won't remember by the time I come back.
I'm all packed, just waiting for some music to copy to the netbook and for me to feel tired enough to sleep. After a stressful day I'm feeling pretty damn good right now. :)
I wasn't very clear
Oooh well done for getting the packing done! I hate hate hate packing. I'm so good at procrastinating when it comes to looking at my stuff.
I've been procrastinating all night, luckily I'd got a lot of it ready yesterday
welcome to wednesday. As i am from the future I can say its quite nice so far, you have a good day to look forward to
:)
i love packing. Would you judge me if i said i have already practiced packing for europe?
yep
practiced?
dare i ask how packing for europe is any differnet than packing for anywhere else?
Awww you guys made the itunes homepage!
oh no!
Ooooh are you available for hire?
is that somehow bad?
if i remember correctly, last time that happened the bandwidth usage went through the roof?
Huh? :(
I have F1 minute between tv programmes and oscar nominees.
But you want people to listen to your podcast or you wouldn't make it surely.
however, I am quite astounded (in a good way) that you beat Jonathan Ross and Fighting Talk!!
Very impressive!
of course but when you get on the itunes front page it can become very expensive
wha?
you remember correctly. lucky we've nailed that for sidepodcast.
oh.
:( Sorry....
tis true. last time we were young, naive, y'know. we have it sussed now. in theory.
we had a whacking great bill and if we hadn't spotted the issues (was a fluke), it woulda crippled us. f1 minute is muuuuch smaller in terms of file size than sidepodcast tv.
no, it's awesome. trust me.
i practiced because im only taking a small bag and i need it to be as light as possible. I dont normally have such a concern as i normally take a wheely suitcase.
Okay I was just browsing and noticed it.
now you have a wheely small suitcase.
you know what's scary? they've taken a really old and out of date logo and made it look fab. i (hearts) apple.
I love my new wheely suitcase. It's the best thing ever. I'm almost annoyed that Nick's coming to see me as I don't get to use it again. I suppose I could take it to London, but it is excessively large for that :P
:)
Ooooh I remember now. Were you talking about this earlier this evening? About the torrents. Head = sieve
just trying to work out how to tweet photos from the mobile..
heheh. nah, we didn't talk about f1m, sidepodcast has had it's own private popularity surge. new season and all that, and the bandwidth usage is quite high.
it's not a problem if we stay with our current host, but along with being cheap, they're also a bit rubbish.
email to twitpic.
And that scuppers the planned move?
oh that reminds me! Must see if i can twitpic from my old phone as not being able to from the track next weekend might literally kill me.
really? ok
nope. nothings really changed, except they've been extra useless and plan to take the site down soon, whilst they reset the database passwords.
it's unnecessary downtime and we're not ready to move yet. just annoying, no real issue. alex was trying to help out, but sidepodcast has sort of expanding beyond it's means.
create a twitpic account and they give you an email addy.
Victims of your own success :)
Done, thanks. I had one on the TMR a/c but not the personal.
AWESOME! It works!
http://twitpic.com/191eij
it kind of is, but in some ways the problem is the wealth of content (now 30GB), so even if no-one listened, and no-one cared, it's still a great chunk of data to store.
basically... we talk to much.
yay.
shame my phone dosent send emails! boo.
#thatwasfromhotmail
it's worth knowing though, because that's essentially what we're encouraging people to use to share pics instead of dropio.
that is my problem if my old phone cant email because i dont think it does. Temptation to buy new phone is rising! I have a twitpicing reputation to uphold!
^^tis true!

#guilttrip
Or.. you archive too much :) That's not to say you should get rid of it btw.
i would be lying if i said im not on ebay right now because i know i can get the same model as i have now for pretty cheap.
we won't get rid of anything. i like to consider it a challenge.
I'd offer one of my old phones if I thought it would get there in time.
just listening to bob on kangarootv podcast. it's very odd.
it's like bob's f1 roundup, but the recording is *really* quiet. and there doesn't seem to be a reason for its existence.
I think I'm done. 4hrs sleep and then I'm away. I don't do early nights. :)
I'll probably tweet or comment my journey there (and back) or if I see anything interesting. Otherwise, see ya next week :)
Enjoy Sebring if you watch it.
I was just looking at the overtaking stats Gavin posted a couple of days ago and just noticed they have a line for 2010 which is obviously only one race. The interesting number is the average per GP which for that race was 21 which is higher than the season average for every year back until 1993. I am confused.
http://www.cliptheapex.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=822#wrap
guilt trip works! I am even closer to the podium this year. Let me find an ebay seller who can have it here by next wednesday...
you promise you're going now?
So i've written a letter to tout for money for our courses practical element (basically a mini-race team) and so far ive done 73 copies and will do pretty much every company in the area.
Print Letter (with address on)
Print address label
Stick address label on envelope
Fold letter
Put in envelop
Seal envelope
Deliver
x73
I think im going insane
Yep
night pat.
email?
generally quite big companies, so finding the local shop address would be quite hard.
ahh
and i think when asking for money its better to have something in your hand, looks like you've taken time over it
Haha I know that we respond to requests like this with token gestures if they write, I never even see the emails, they get filtered out way before they get to someone who might decide to give you something.
hmmm. you arent giving me confidence ;)
Yeah I think your emails would be responded to with a polite no from someone who knows nothing about anything at their head office.
exactly, where as a local university collegey type thing is more likely to be responded too
Awwww sorry. I wouldn't give you cash :D If you wrote asking for raffle prizes for your fundraising I'd probably provide something.
Can't you print envelopes and take some effort and cost out?
gah. that would have been sensible
aha, atleast you give them something, better than a kick in the teeth!
our faculty are useless, very unhelpful, even the things they've promise they arent delivering on so im taking matters into my own hands!
Bucks New Racing 2CV 24 hour team anyone? :D
i just bought a better phone than the one i have now. Oops. It was only another $40 than the one i have now so why not? :D
w00t!
i mean... bad amy.
spending money is too easy. But it should be here in time for me to twitpic from driver interviews on wednesday :D
You are going to run a car and commentate. Some friends and I looked like running a car in that race years ago but as with so many things the initial enthusiasm reduced as soon as reality reared its head
I won't do both, I'm setting up the team and will help out where I can and will get in someone I know who knows more about automotive engineering so can point everyone in the right direction!
It's often the case, I have it quite regularly, get pumped for something and then realise that x1000 pounds is actually quite alot of money. This year they're introducing the "college cup" to try and get entries from universities and such, and knowing what a great experience it is im trying my hardest to make it happen. My 6th form did a similar thing with an electric car and alot of local businesses chipped in, this is quite alot more money mind you but the principle is still the same.
Shouldn't you be involved in Formula Student?
We don't have the facilities, and FS is incredibly expensive, the average car will cost £16-17,000, our university isn't at all automotive based and so we'd struggle to produce anything for it.
They have an electric equivalent called Greenpower which is considerably cheaper, and i'll definitely look seriously at that if i cant get the funding for this team but do get some.
on top of the fact that we dont have £17,000
That cost is ridiculous. They should be able to do it for a lot less. No wonder it isn;t better known.
How is the karting thing going?
We're waiting to hear back from our industry lecturer, he's having some meetings with a guy at the moment but until we hear back from him then i couldnt say!
I'm trying to work out how to drive into Melbourne. Why do they put toll roads in the way?!
I'm sure its doable for even half that, but if you are designing and building a car from scratch then it will cost alot, teams like Oxford Brookes and such who are building hybrids and have carbon tubs etc will be £15,000+ easily
Typical university. Takes them a year to make a decision that should take days at most. Maybe before you graduate they will decide
aha, if we're lucky! ;)
For other uni's such as Brookes, they know the value of Formula Student and so they invest in facilities and people who know what they're doing...
Us....not so much....
You have to wonder why they allow carbon tubs. I know people are being trained for the modern industry but the important points are to understand what a car has to do and to make it do that. They should specify spaceframes and grp like Formula Ford
It's all about pushing the boundaries I guess, but when it comes down to who's got the most money (as it so often goes) then you have to wonder!
mark webber is in melbourne! Time to go a'stalking ;)
Can you blow up the toll roads while you are at it?
He is not even Finnish
Actually, I thought he had a parade in Queenbeyan today. Must have been earlier.
Right. Sleep for me. Night all
Clearly you can't live without internet access these days. I'm not sure how I am going to do this while living out of my car for three weeks!
Supplies are low.... He's met a Finn, maybe that counts?
Night Jon :)
stupid toll roads! Citylink call centre is in my building so i could go mess with their systems? ;)
That might help. What on earth is east link? Their web sites are hopeless.
We don't have the facilities, and FS is incredibly expensive, the average car will cost £16-17,000, our university isn't at all automotive based and so we'd struggle to produce anything for it. {Comment #95}
I think Formula Student is aimed at fairly large universities with specialised motor sport courses; I know my alma mater (University of Sheffield) has a Formula Student team, though it is relatively new (the team - and the courses that made the team a sensible addition to the student clubs - didn't exist at the start of my studies).
I don't remember the club advertising itself much, which implied that much of its funding came from those departments whose students could benefit academically from participating (which basically meant the Business department and about three dozen branches of the Engineering faculty).
i wonder if webber likes $12 steaks. If so he might be at my friends restaurant tonight too ;)
Noght
eastlink is the newest toll road, apparently its great for those in eastern suburbs. I dont even know where the eastern suburbs are. I couldnt point to east from where i am right now, i have no bearings in cities :D
#christinesameperson
East is where the sun is in the morning.
My dad says things like this to me all the time. I have no idea what direction the sun is when.....
Amy,
Look at the sun. Not directly at it but just in its general direction. Because you are upside down east is somewhere to the right of the sun.
I didn't know Melbourne had an east. I always thought it was south.
Unless you are facing south, in the afternoon. Then things get a little confusing
If she is facing south in the direction of the sun she is either a lot more lost than she thinks or we have far bigger problems than a poor sense of direction
:)
Ah good point.
#alittlelostmyself
i orientate myself based on where my house is because my suburb is called north melbourne. The problem is i think my suburb is actually more west of the city than north
looks like joe's confirmed "an evening in montreal": http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/formula-1-and-indianapolis/#comment-13385
did you see how pretty his melbourne location is? It has a beach!
I have had a look on streetview. I hope it's the nice new building and not the small old white building.
Morning, folks.
its the building to the right of the pier! Streetview showed me the abandoned restaurant on the other side of the road which confused me.
morning journeyer. I just watched roger lose :(
is that the nice new building then?
Hey Mr. C and Christine -
I was thinking about the Bahrain Race and the lack of passing and how the role of the driver has changed. They seem to take orders from the pit wall to manage the car and apply the strategy developed on the wall and tuned in the factory then relayed to the driver, or is it now just operator?
The paddle shifting makes missing a shift near impossible. The cars upshift for you if your late, they have rev limiters to care for the engine. The creep of technology into the cockpit has reduced the chance for the driver to make errors that create passing opportunities. Didn't Webber say words to the effect that he 'just followed gearboxes all day waiting for someone to make a mistake which world champions rarely do these days.'
Mr Tilka has designed tracks that are safe enough to be insured so that the racing can proceed. Changing the tracks would be costly but what if Jean and Bernie pulled back some of the brilliant technology that F1 has developed and put more car control into the hands of the drivers. Perhaps this might create more on track, in cockpit, guy in your mirrors decision making. I hope for more small errors not ones that put you into the wall but a missed shift going up Eau Rouge, missing an apex and getting off the line to set up for the hill to the pit straight at Interlagos. Perhaps the driver may get a bit out of shape trying to defend the line and lose speed for the straight. More thinking and executing at speed.
Doesn't that sound like better racing?
Just a thought.
I'm on your website daily and download every podcast, love GP+ too.
tim
i just had another look at streetview to check and there is only one building there so i dont know if i could call it nice and new or old and small!
I guess the question here is how F1 is perceived. Is it the pinnacle of racing or the pinnacle of technology? The direction F1 needs to take is down to the people in it (FIA, FOM, FOTA, GPDA) to decide.
:D
oh no! :( to who?
at least it's not a major.
he lost to baghdatis. Roger always loses early at indian wells, but he had match point twice so he really should have taken this one!
When you consider the results at quali and at the end of the race there is not that much difference. I'm all for ordering the grid and keeping the slower cars out of the way but the qualifying is more exciting than the race some times. It doesn't have to be this way
tim
mr. c has always said that quali is the best bit of the weekend now, a bit ironic when 5 years ago, it seemed to be an unfixable problem. :)
but i've always been a fan of the true pole position. that was where people like senna and schumacher weaved their magic. i guess cars are so good now that cars that are good on saturday are always good on sunday as well. this wasn't always the case previously. is there a way to change it?
hmmm. most odd. like he wasn't interested.
Reliability is key but the on track decision making of Schumi and Senna was a delight to watch. The larger role for the driver has the possibility to make the racing more memorable and drawing in more fans to watch drivers react to situations that develop. The track may not provide as many interesting opportunities as driver error or "failure to execute."
tim
new phone has been sent and I have a tracking number. I should have it in plenty of time for wednesday. I wonder what drivers will be there.
what's on wednesday?
but i don't think the teams are interested to go back there. for all the solutions being discussed, it hasn't been brought up. let's see what they decide to do.
the behind the scenes tour. Ends with driver interviews which is what makes it worth going to.
ooooh! :D
I doubt that they will suggest it. The teams want to eliminate errors and have perfect execution and technology helps with that. Teams like reliability. Drivers like reliability. Sponsors like reliability. All this reliability makes for "Qualify, Cruise and Collect." I've seen enough of that passing off as racing.
tim
G'nite
I thant case, I think I am going to get lost and confused.
They did suggest banning traction control, though, so I can still hope.
Night Tim.
Morning everyone :)
Hey Alex. :)
A good article from GQ on Manny Pacquiao. Not just for boxing fans. :)
I'm on my way to Birmingham today! For a disaster recovery test.
Disaster recovery test? My colleagues have been doing a lot of those tests for the last few weeks as well. Must be that time of the year...
Eeek. Good luck. I hate doing those.
I'm the user this time so not so bad.
Ah yes, not bad, the presure isn't on you.
Morning.
Just in case you missed it, I posted my Driver Consistency and Fastest Lap Analysis last night: http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/driver-consistency-bahrain-2010/
Hey Gavin. Good post as always. :)
i am sitting next to the place stuart said he went to when he was at grands prix. Prime pavement spot. Pity there is no one to see yet!
Nice, where is that? I need "spots to go to"
Thanks man - hope it wasn't too ranty ;)
that place is bar corvina. Turns out my friend runs the restaurants on either side so I shall be breakfasting here each day at Two Doors Down.
What kind of phone did you get Amy? If not some kind of smart phone (ok, I really mean iPhone), why not?
Did I read that you got a new iPod recently? Is it the Touch?
Yum, breakfast out. I like that idea.
NICE. :D
you are more than welcome to join me :)
I may just do that.
Aha! St Kilda. That's a brisk walk from Commercial Road, where I am staying.
#feelingignored :P
Hi Jeremy!
What are you doing for the race?
Ooh! This sounds like fun: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8570293.stm
It's very much like the 'Share This' button innit?
I can't believe I have to do this trip without an iphone. It's killing me
waiting for news on family matters. Probably general admission Sunday only. Not what I wanted but family comes first.
Does general admission ever sell out?
That's bad luck mate, was hoping we could all meet up some time.
Well I hope it works out OK.
I am not sure - I hope not because I am not in a position to buy a ticket for Spa yet!
I'm bringing mine. It's got a screen big enough to share... Right? :P
oh. That's the ipad which isn't here yet :-(
I don't know how I am going to live comment with the stupi Blackberry. Grrrrrrrr
Got to go. Talk soon
i shall extend the invite to all spc folk to two doors down for pre f1 breakfast so no one feels ignored :D
Actually, breakfast is a great idea, and probably better than night stuff where you end up too tired after a day at the track. Can you organise for Rob to be there?
Wasn't worried about the Melbourne stuff. Wanted to know about your new mobile :-)
get spc to tell joe to tell rob?
That's the idea.
On the long year for Button noted for Christine in her intro today, it should actually read "he will be in for a long three years"....
i just had a look at the breakfast menu and there is so much i want i really need to be here all 4 days.
Eggs.
...and bacon.
....and toast, coffee....
well, why don't they just ban the car to pit radio ? sounds very simple thing to do and imagine the consequences :-)
We'd never have heard Christine singing "Felipe Baby"....
Morning all.
Hi Christine
Morning. :)
Morning.
Guys,
You have to see this dorky Wii Winter Olympics Fail!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQy3GOUXfIk&feature=related
Really funny!
Gavin, don't make me waste bandwidth. You wouldn't like me when I waste bandwidth.
What have I done wrong now? :(
I think he was kidding, TBH. :)
Oh ok! :D
Unless he turns green and splits out of his clothes
And drives a Williams? :D
LOL. Yes, that's the thing
Oh, and Happy St. Pat's day guys - I am wearing a green tie today ;)
I am so dense, I wore my green top yesterday.
#fashionfail
I forgot all together
#patrickwho?
PatW?
Wow, I see the comments saying we're on the iTunes homepage but I didn't know we were in the newsletter as well!!
There's a newsletter?
Yea, tells you what's "New on iTunes."
And also, apparently, what has been on iTunes for ages.
http://twitpic.com/193lmq
w00t!
I like being as important as Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
So it's paid off, all those times you keep singing Poker Face then?
Wow. You really are "from the Internet"
On other matters, how is Glee the #1 album?!?
I seem to have got a different newsletter to you.
What does yours have?
I'm still trying to figure out how Glee is a TV series! ;)
It's so bad, it's good.
#becauseitsAMAZING
#nothere
#morning all
It's instructional, on how to deal with other staff members
I'll have to try and watch it somehow. I just saw the clip where they sing the Journey song and I just thought "cheese"!
+1
Where F1 Minute is on yours. I get an advert for Tips and Tricks on iTunes.
Oh, it's very cheesy.
Ooh, intriguing!
I'm starting to think Apple only send me part of a newsletter.
Do we know who Jennie Gow is? She's replacing Ms Perry on the Moto whatsit doo-dah.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2010/03_march/17/motogp.shtml
http://twitpic.com/190f0k
I found this and thought of you all!
Morning
http://jenniegow.co.uk/
There will be uproar in the Moto GP community that Suzi's gone, its like tennant leaving and smith coming in, such an impossible act to follow
nope, but apparently she has been working for Sky Sports. she already has a twitter account ;) http://twitter.com/JennieGow
She's a USP lady. Small world!
oh man!
talking about Journey... I remember few years back their current singer singing in bars over here, wherever their band could get a job. then one day I found out he got call from Journey to join the band ... kind of Cinderella story :-)
Isn't that the plot to a film or something?
nope, real life...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89_2UivtEhs
What on earth gave you that impression?
WHAT? Pezza was the ONLY reason I watched MotoGP.... :(
It was a film too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Star_(film)
Then switch to Eurosport UK who have Toby Moody (who is mental)!
Hullo everyone
Why is Lost getting more confusing? I thought this was meant to be the last season
If you're talking about this week's... say nothing! We won't get to see it till Saturday.
Oops, sorry. Thought we were behind you
I can't keep up with how it works and who gets to see what when, but I do know that the few days between the final episode airing and when we get to see it are going to be a nightmare.
I gave up with Lost when Sky bought the rights to show it in the UK. Smegged if I'm catching up with it now....
Yea, that was a bit of a nightmare.
Oh my gods.... Radio 2 are playing War of the Worlds - Thunder Child!!!
*dances with the dog*
:D memories
My lecturer has uploaded his notes regarding using Ajax for a project we're working on. It's amazing how times he's included references to Flash Gordon.
MFC ping: http://mediafuturechange.com/2010/03/17/compare-my-radio/
Ooh, interesting. No prizes for guessing what I instantly searched for.
Obviously the Backstreet Boys ;)
Gavin! That is just an awful accusation!
...it was N-Sync. :P
Who was it here that secretly likes Hanna Montana?
rg
RG!
#sorryRG
i mean... no-one?
amy may have found the entrance: http://twitpic.com/193w1h
(ahh, just like the old days)
Well I must admit I downloaded that Cheryl Cole song the other day - but only because the BBC used it for the Olympics... honest! ;)
:D
someone told me the lyrics to a cheryl cole the other day, something to do with parachutes and I laughed at it because I thought they were taking the mickey
I was extremely surprised to find out those were actually the lyrics
the model up from my current, I had a nokia 6210 I think the new one is 6710. I borrowed an iPhone today to log into my internet banking and it took me about 20 minutes to type my password in. And that is the why not, I can't stand touch screen text entry.
you did, but it's a 120gb classic. I need mucho space.
Forget the shovel, you need a ladder for that great big crater you just dug yourself!!!
Get a CrackBerry then?
Well I don't think lyrics are her strong point TBH ;)
:)
Ah, time for me to do some work. Fixing people's cock-ups*.
*censored, some people are so incredibly stupid it makes me wanna swear. Lots.
but I like my current phone :( (aside from the broken camera)
Laters.
I return to sanity later this evening with some online racing. Hopefully I can go better than 5 laps this time. :D
Byee
Morning :)
Hi alison, how are you?
Just about.
Evening. :D
See ya
:(
I'm good thanks. I'm supposed to be tidying up my tip of a house but....
i found the doohickey has a magnetic draw far greater than gravity or the LHC.
a hoy hoy
...buuut? :D
Yup! We figured that out a loooooong time ago. :D It's usually a life-changing discovery.
shiver me timbers? ;)
but i've always been a fan of the true pole position. that was where people like senna and schumacher weaved their magic. i guess cars are so good now that cars that are good on saturday are always good on sunday as well. this wasn't always the case previously. is there a way to change it? {Comment #143}
Lengthen the races a lot (with or without refuelling). If the cars had to do 50% more distance, then the difference between a well-adapted and badly-adapted car would be more noticeable.
Take away the front wing flap adjustment so that understeer becomes more of a problem in the race.
Remove the two-compound rule, then drivers and teams would have more flexibility regarding pit strategy.
Basically anything that makes the challenge of qualifying more radically different from the challenge of the race should help - though ultimately a non-refuelling race is dependent on people being prepared to take risks and circuits where taking risks pays off.
Alternatively the joke of randomly turning on water sprinklers during the race could help, if rather artificially.
This is a risky proposition, at best. The current flow of opinion is to shorten races rather than lengthen them.
Agreed on this one. And I think this will be binned for 2011.
Bernie seems to be going in this direction as well, and I agree.
Somehow, I think this may have been seriously discussed in the paddock at least once, no matter how insane that sounds.
I like being as important as Lady Gaga and Beyonce. {Comment #216}
Congratulations :D
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK
I disagree. For years the teams have said that moveable aerodynamics are part of the solution - at the moment the rules are too restrictive. I say totally free it up!
i'm not so certain. my concern is if moveable aero optimizes it too much for teams. shouldn't they be having more difficulty rather than less?
They were complaining for years that they wanted to tweak the wings in dirty air - why not let them do it?
but then does tweaking the wings also open the door to creating more dirty air? it's a tricky balance to find.
The current flow of opinion is to shorten races rather than lengthen them. {Comment #287}
I think the "shortening" theory was based on keeping people's attention glued to the screen. I would have hoped it would be easier to do that if the racing was better (given the enduring popularity of the film format alongside TV shows). The racing should be better if the cars that are faster on Sunday aren't the ones that are faster on Saturday. Lengthening the races would exaggerate the difference between qualifying and racing, thus encouraging more differences, more overtaking and more stuff to grab people's attention.
To me, shortening the race is almost an admission of defeat; "We can't get you lot to watch us at normal length, so here's a mini version so that you don't feel as if you're wasting so much time".
it took me a long time to convince Zoe but she loves her iPhone and admits she just needed some time with it. the key is to relax and just aim vaguely for the letter/number you want.
we need to make a 128GB iPhone, don't we :)
I disagree. For years the teams have said that moveable aerodynamics are part of the solution - at the moment the rules are too restrictive. I say totally free it up! {Comment #290}
Static aero can be freed up and would probably benefit the sport if it was. Dynamic aero, particularly limited-use dynamic aero, ends up getting used as an in-race optimisation aid and ends up counteracting such things as non-refuelling and diverse potential stint lengths.
There are certain things the iPhone does that I like, there are some apps that would be mighty handy, but I'm still not ready to give up a phone I can text with one handed without looking (or pay $1000+ for the privilege) :D
NASCAR races for about 3 hours and has lots of overtaking. But usually, I just watch the start and the end. How is your proposal different from what NASCAR is doing now?
F1 2010 news - http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1077840p1.html
They were complaining for years that they wanted to tweak the wings in dirty air - why not let them do it? {Comment #292}
Because it makes things harder for the car behind. Remember also that a wing tweakable in dirty air is also tweakable in clean air, and often more beneficial then (particularly to dial out under/oversteer).
typing is so last year - it's all about voice recognition :P
$1000?? you know people ;-)
If its more than $299 I don't want it :D
Goodness me, the footage in the video ;looks fantastic. And it has lots of Ant!
first you need to make a ipod touch with camera, please. (GPS would be nice too)
NASCAR races for about 3 hours and has lots of overtaking. But usually, I just watch the start and the end. How is your proposal different from what NASCAR is doing now? {Comment #298}
Bacause F1 is never going to have NASCAR levels of overtaking. In essence, it has the opposite problem - NASCAR has so much action that anything within the first 2 1/2 hours can be considered meaningless (suggesting it is too long) whereas F1 has so little action that one can often assume that the order by the end of the first lap is the order at the end (suggesting it is too short). Of course, that theory applied to Bahrain would have proven incorrect, but by the time Vettel's spark plug went on strike, so would a lot of the viewers.
A lot of this is continuation of an age-old debate about how to improve overtaking whose current version has been going on almost since I started watching the sport in 1993. Given what Steven Roy has said, the question's discussion in a different form actually pre-dates my following of the sport by some time.
The other thing is that most of the action that did happen in Bahrain was missed or glossed over by the camera obsession with looking at anything but the action. Better footage direction would improve F1 excitement levels for TV viewers without changing anything whatsoever about the racing.
Doesn't it? This game looks really immersive!
Indeed. According to this link: http://www.cliptheapex.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=1482#p16544
There were over 20 proper overtakes in Bahrain. How many did you see? I think I saw two...
But then most of that can be attributed to Nico H, Adrian, and Robert as they played catchup with the rest of the field. Which should've been focused on, yes, but were those really equal fights?
just buy an iPhone? :-)
Internet (almost) everywhere is still the most awesome thing ever.
I don't care - if there are overtaking moves I want to see them.
In the IndyCar race there were heaps - admittedly most of them with the cars lower down the field. Still good to see though...
I need this now!
I just hope there is a mode to play without having to setup cars, I want to get to the racing as soon as possible :)
I've seen them sell second hand for less than that. Admittedly, you want whatever we release next and that wont be that cheap :)
And I do agree. What I'm saying though, is, will there always be cars playing catch-up? In terms of overtaking, we can't just rely on that, can we?
That was something rFactor and the EA F1 games were really good at - if you wanted an easy setup there were 4 slider bars...
I hope not.
I hope there is something like that, the setups for F1:CE annoy me. Lucikly people have put them online so I can find them. Without I'm seveal seconds slower.
I have been told with iRacing that the best thing to do is start with the base setup and learn it, because most of the cars are quite broad in that aspect...
how is the battery life compared to the Ipod?
Worse according to Alex. All my colleagues who have one are always charging the things at their desks too...
i can understand that. i just like to race ;)
the most common thing I hear at work these days is "Does anyone have an iPhone charger?"
i am in the same dilemma kinda. ipod touch or iphone?
My copy of the F1 2009 season review just arrived and it has 2 discs. anyone know whats on each disk?
Same here. Lately I have only had enough time to jump in a car, practice for half an hour and then join a race.
I'm the Karun Chandhok of iRacing ;)
I'm gonna go with F1
depends what you do with it. battery life can be frustrating but I can get through a day quite easily now by turning off 3G when im not actually using it on the internet
:D
then no thank. My phone keeps for a week and my current mp3 player for 30 play hours. I can't be trusted with charging things.
The second disk contains an extended version of "Cooking With Heikki" :D
Disc 1 has Bahrain to Britain plus special features.
Disc 2 has Germany to Abu Dhabi.
Both discs have bonus content from each race that's on the disc.
HA-HA. :P
Really? It depends on how you use it. Usually, I only charge every other night - or less.
the best thing ITV ever did.
ah thats cool. better than previous years :D
indeed. best DVD yet, i reckon.
It does - but what fun is a phone like that if you don't use the features just to save the battery?
Still haven't seen 2008 - had it for a year now...
i DO use it pretty often. not sure if it's as often as the others, but i do love my games (plants vs. zombies!!!) and my mobile surfing, both of which i know normally take up a lot of battery.
I refuse to buy 2008.
you get used to charging it every night fairly quickly.
having said that, i know people who take the odd phone call and send the odd text who charge twice a week
i usually watch DVD highlights of previous years as my buildup to a race. makes for good viewing - for me, anyway. :)
Seems like on the iPod Touch as soon as you turn on the screen it eats battery. if you listen to MP3's with the screen off it lasts days!
Oooh nice!
I HAD to buy 2008 ;)
the Aus GP just posted "What are you doing tomorrow? Head down to Crown and check out the Legends of Sport Lunch! Want some hints on our special guests? They're coming ..."
I want to know who is there! If there is an F1 Legend there I must go!
Indeed. Surprisingly, taking long calls also doesn't take up a lot of battery as long as the screen is off. :)
Who is they?!?!
go to poundland! me and turkey machine found it for £1 there ;)
hehe fair enough.
I have 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and now 2009. I suppose I should fill the gaps.
I'll bet it's Alan Jones ;)
i have every DVD since 2000. i even signed up for ebay just to buy the super-rare 2001 DVD. :)
exactly! use it and charge it often - just like any other battery powered device. i know i'm biased but i don't hear people complaining about other devices.
before you say it, there are plenty of external battery packs available. unlike removeable batteries, you dont have to turn your phone off to use them
Plants vs Zombies ftw! :D
Maybe Jack Brabham too?
Unfortunately it's work time for me :(
Have a fun day peoples....
Why is that one so rare?
The G1 has always been a power hog.
I agree totally with you there. Just have a charger at work and home, top it up when not using it ;)
its probably Webber, he is here for a week with nothing to do!
Well he was supposed to be sick but he looked OK in Bahrain
my phone was never a power hog until I dropped it in the sink. Now the battery only lasts about 6 hours :D
I need a 2.5 external disk and of course it needs its own bag. Hm I wonder if I should get a new netbook bag too ... and maybe that ipod.
Amazon is a very very dangerous place :(
Because you can only get it if you buy the special edition Formula One 2002 game by Sony Liverpool - which for some reason is nowhere to be found for regular sale anymore.
The 2000 and 2001 DVDs were not from FOM per se. They were from Sony with permission from FOM. There is a gap year (2002) where there was no DVD review, only the VHS version.
Hope you have a good day, Alison. :)
amen!
Note: the DVD and VHS reviews were different in both 00 and 01.
You too!
eh? all smart phones drain batteries.
Ah OK.
I am sure I could find the missing ones ;)
Where's my cake? We were promised cake!
The 2000 DVD was sold separately, so it's readily available in most online stores. The 2001 DVD, however, was not. eBay is your friend.
now that I have decided breakfast rules, can I request a plug in next Wednesdays daily? :D
iphone
My account is safe for now, I can't reach my Dad. I'm not allowed to buy electronics without talking to my Dad beforehand for at least 2h to compare prices, models, reviews, warranty times ...
my problem is now that I have a computer at work with (mostly) unrestricted internet, I didn't even have to wait until I got home to buy the iPod last week or the phone this week! #byebyespamoney
but what if your Dad isn't as biased about Apple products as me? *does not compute*
Of course you can. Erm... for what? I think I might have missed it.
if you're comparing prices, you're not buying apple.
you better get that promotion, then. ;)
better job = bigger credit card limit = who needs to save :P
But I don*t want a phone. I already have a phone. I like my phone. It makes calls and sends massages. It's perfect.
I have decided I am going to go to a specific place each day of the F1 event for breakfast before I head to the track and have extended an open SPC invitation to anyone who wants to come along :D
Oooh, fabulous!
I was half eavesdropping today and it sounds like the guy I need to leave so I can steal his job might just be leaving. Fingers crossed :D
lies! :P
wow.
not so much with the iPhone from the limited research i have done
He hates them. He is a medion kind of guy :)
I feel ripped off though because they told me they have a website where I could link to the menu, but they don't, only their pizza restaurant two doors up the road has a website.
Half-eavesdropping... Yeees. :P
Sutil fan, then? ;)
so is my mate. his wife and kids want something that just works - they understand value for money ;-)
they are two doors down from the internet savvy place - im sure thats how they got their name
I also found out that two supervisors from our sister company on the floor above us might be in the running for it as well though :(
I shall jump on the train from south Wales to New south Wales!
heheh, its more they owned the pizza place first, and when the place two doors down came up for sale they bought it :D
and fly down to Victoria with me?
this is as close to a website as I can find :(
I thought it was Amy we were meeting? ;)
have we linked to tedNEWS? he says the RBR couldn't have only had sparkplug issues: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8572060.stm
RBR trying to cover up a newey flaw?
actually i have a very dumb question about that. Does it matter in which country I buy it?
I mean does apple have a little sensor in its product that tells them that I live in Finland but bought the ipod in Germany, where it is €30 cheaper, and make it explode? #IDon'treallythinkthat...wellmaybealittlebit
this is intresting:
I reckon so. A few times over the previous weekend we saw the Red Bull with problems...
more the merrier ;-)
I think Victoria has long since departed this planet ;)
it's a brilliant post!
"Renault's fuel efficiency would have given Red Bull a 9.8-second advantage on Ferrari over the whole race distance.
"No wonder eventual winner Fernando Alonso was waiting until the last 10 laps to mount an attack. At any other stage of the race, it would not have been a fair fight, as Vettel would have been significantly lighter on fuel."
ted = awesome. it's like watching a whole other sport when ted gives you information.
I only just checked how much an iphone costs. Jeremy are you mad?!?!?!??
I want to invite Ted to breakfast.
i think the warranty is international, but it pays to check with a local shop.
has ted ever led us astray? :D
I can't believe he doesn't have a fully fledged blog on the BBCF1 site.
apparently Legard thinks so, questioning him on sunday...
Does Ted have the power to actually make it a whole other sport? ;)
how dare he!
he did outlast the mole, though. :)
he might well do!
split it over 24 months? (most phone contracts in Aust are like this)
data isn't cheap in most countries but if it means you can get rid of your netbook and 3G dongle modem (if you have one) then it's not too bad.
I want my iPad now please :)
Is it Sebring this weekend? Boo for Franck not being in it.
Saw the video earlier but just noticed the new f1 2010 screenshots...
wooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwww!
it is, we'll probably need a thread.
I ain't watching in protest.
he was wrong that time though :P
#needsmoreFranck
ted Kravitz is never wrong, it's reality that's wrong ;)
well no, me neither, but people will talk about it and you'll be able to hide in the daily :)
that is rather impressive.
*throws wii game in bin*
Ah, good thinking. I might pop up with a #needsmoreFranck every hour or something, just so he isn't forgotten.
Yea, I was upset at the Wii game that I couldn't crash into Jarno Trulli and have him start a fight with me on the side of Interlagos.
:)
I'll join that protest (I just wanted an excuse to not join in)
Needs to sleep now. Bye all :)
Night Jeremy
which consoles is the game coming to?
so much wiser than I, night!
360 and PS3 from the looks of it. At first I heard only PS3, but that link is from a 360 site.
X360, PC and PS3
Sounds like a Euphemism to me!
PC too? Hmm, assuming it's nothing like GRiD or like the Wii game (where I cant even wreck the car, the best can do is make my front wing fall off), I may check it out.
It'd be quicker to start digging!
But then I will end up in new Zealand, apparently! :D
Fast but fragile. he's like new Lotus.
FTA:
Williams technical director Sam Michael confirmed the Renault as best in this area, followed by Mercedes and Cosworth, with Ferrari the thirstiest. That means the Red Bulls started the race with 10kg less fuel than the Ferraris.
Do you think he reads my blog? ;)
you could hide in my parents luggage? they don't arrive for 34 days though (yes I am counting, I am excited!)
I'll email Bernie and ask if he can hold off f1 till then, I'm sure he'll be ok with it
It is a very good post.
Hence why I have an iTouch...
sam michael... ooh maybe.
But then most of that can be attributed to Nico H, Adrian, and Robert as they played catchup with the rest of the field. Which should've been focused on, yes, but were those really equal fights? {Comment #208}
No, but then a lot of overtaking battles are unequal fights and they were all doing overtaking through driver-related mishaps in the race (as opposed to, say, out-of-position qualifying or penalties). Also, a lot of overtaking can be attributed to the Lotuses and Virgins, which were having quite the ding-dong battle in the early stages before the Virgins lost by default.
me neither. No Audi's!
JUST RELEASE IT WITH THE 2009 CARS!!!
the most common thing I hear at work these days is "Does anyone have an iPhone charger?" {Comment #314}
Why don't these people bring iPhone chargers to work? It's not exactly an unforeseeable eventuality...
awesome, I will see you at breakfast! (I am thinking two days of eggs, two days of pancakes?)
i thought the did that with gt5, and you've spent the best part of a year complaining about it?
I'm wondering how much Crofty and Ant are gonna be used for the game. Obviously ant is the guy whispering in the dev's ears how the cars feel and the physics, but it would be totally cool to have them both as commentators for the game.
May do a bit of blogging when I get home and further analysis of the first video they've produced of the game
What? I don't even have a Playstation?
I just think that with all the work done to make those cars 2009 spec it would be a terrible waste to throw them in the bin!
hadn't made that connection.
I have 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and now 2009. I suppose I should fill the gaps. {Comment #249}
I have 2003 and 2008 (two copies - long story). To be honest, I don't feel any burning desire to get more.
maybe it wasn't you. weren't you miffed the gt5 still hasn't been released and that the prologue was just a bunch of temporary cars?
Crofty seems quite heavily involved with it too based on Twitter and the promotion for the Wii game last year so it'd make sense. Fingers crossed :)
I agree, even though I'd rather have the 2010 Ferrari. Anything to keep refueling in the game.
They need to fix pit stops too. The Wii game has 11-17 sec pitstops.
*headdesk*
I said earlier how my lecturer included references to flash gordon several times in his notes for Ajax... have just emailed him and even the reply included a flash gordon reference!! The man is obsessed!
how do you reference flash gordon on ajax?
flash! ahhhh!
Heikki is such a nerd, he is excited about jetpacks.
I would just like to remind you he was my favourite before he became all cool and #MFC :D
I don't know! This was his reply to me...
Yeah, use what I've reccomeneded for your group. Ajax will be far more useful for the marking criteria. Just don't start shouting "launch war rocket AJAX!" like on Flash Gordon, well you could but I won't mark you for that
I'm miffed it's not been released for sure, because I played prologue and I was pretty impressed. It's getting a bit like Duke Nukem Forever...
i remember, just like i remember how quickly he was dropped in favour of mika ;)
wft?
ooh, strange.
MIKA. WHERE?
Team Fortress II was like that too for quite some time. I also thought we'd never see Fallout 3.
3rd banana of the day...
you should ask heikki to encourage mika tweets.
I would die.

#sorryamy
murdererrrrrr! (I secretly love it though)
Afternoon all.
Apparently it was handbags at dawn in the media centre this weekend. Heikki Kulta had been doing an 'exclusive' one-on-one interview with Martin Whitmarsh when he spotted another scribe hanging around with his dictaphone pointing in their direction. He warned the fellow off, but the guy didn't leave... and, later on, published the transcript on his own website, whence it was filched by the other Finnish media. Heikki was furious!
Very naughty. Is there a way to regulate that, though? I don't think there is...
I can be brown, I can be blue, I can be vi-o-l... oh... wait...
presumably that's not how to get a ahead in f1. isn't that a one way ticket to a cold shoulder?
Or a clenched fist!
Usually. Times are hard, nowadays, and it's getting a bit dog-eat-dog.
In other news, I'll be in a conference call with (among others) DT on Friday. Shall I disrupt proceedings my doing the occasional GRRRRRR?
hehe. ask him where he thinks liuzzi should've finished on sunday.
Lopez fights back!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82200
not naming names tho.
Should we even need to ask? Grrrr!
In other other news, I hear that DT visited the Macca factory a month or two back in conjunction with another project. It was during the snow, and his little Italian sportscar failed to get traction away from the security gate. So both he and his car were literally spinning their wheels in the snow. Imagine! GRRRR! Grrr! GRRRRRR!
Hello :)
Just seen the F1 2010 development diary. All I can say is - MY GOD! :D
It's available to pre-order now as well. Right, that's it!
*rushes to nearest website to do just that*
:D
ohh that's where the interview came from. I read it on a German website, and I was wondering where the original came from because I couldn't find it in English and it was quite Finn-centric.
A good way to enjoy F1 this year might be to discount the first and last races entirely. I for one shall be in front of the computer on Friday pretending Bahrain never happened !
(hearts) DT :)
Might be a good plan. It worked for Abu Dhabi last year :)
Good thing McLaren didn't laugh at him for buying Italian. :D
a 17 race calendar has a certain appeal.
I think Abu Dhabi will be tons better this year - because I think the titles will be clinched there. :)
Ooh, just remembered - a guy in a Lotus Racing jacket dropped by the Orange shop, asking about mobile broadband. I asked for his name when doing a credit check on him and he said Tom Webb. For anyone who's signed up for the media section of the team's site, he's the guy that looks after it all! I gave my congratulations to the team getting both cars to the finish in Bahrain. :)
I twigged he was part of the team before I knew his name because I know that Lotus Racing's clothing merchandise isn't out yet. ;)
*This was on Monday by the way :P
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/
New header!
Looks niiiice. :D
Codemasters have modelled the entire paddock for F1 2010 - http://twitter.com/johnnyminkley/statuses/10624628308
It does look nice!
Hopefully it has dynamic weather like F1: Championship Edition did. Storms can come and go and what not instead of having it rain the whole race.
According to Codemasters, it will do.
From what I've read, it will. You'll get races like Malaysia where the straight could be soaked yet the back end of the circuit may not have the wet yet, which should be great ;)
That'd be awesome if they also trace where pockets of standing water collect. Nurburgring comes to mind with that problem heavily.
Also, any word yet if they'll have Nurburging AND Hockenheim as the races rotate each year.
F1 champ and F1 06 are the same game right? just for different platforms?
Ooh, good thinking...
Pretty much, yep.
i hear alot about F1 champ and googled it and i have f106 so now i know what they refer too!
One thing which did kinda did concern me watching that development diary - on the onboard shots, instead of the hands moving smoothly, the wheel went from full lock to full lock when going through a chicane. Just like GRID and DiRT.
But apparently, the guy who said in the video that they're tailoring the handling to a different audience compared to GRID and DiRT was the Quality and Assurance guy for Grand Prix 3, which at the time of it's release was very, very good. Still is!
Yea, I still play it over the Wii release. Much better overall game.
hey Lukeh -
What do you think? How do we get more passing?
tim
I'm certainly not smart enough to know what F1 needs to improve the racing :) but I do think the cars are 'too perfect' if that makes sense. They're so heavily developed now and technology is so advanced for the teams that cars are too similar in the sense of their aerodynamics adding to the spectacle of the race. Whether that's to blame on the teams or on the FIA's ruling is another matter but for me it's the cars that are to fault. Tilke's tracks and the constantly similar and dull sections he adds to race tracks add to this though.
I mean, it's all good that Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport but the definition of pinnacle is "the highest level or degree attainable; the highest stage of development" - what we saw may have been motorsport developed at the highest degree but it certainly wasn't motorsport producing the highest degree of racing.
I completely agree. Get rid of everything electronic aside from EFI. Manual shifting, clutch, etc.
words from a microsoft blogger:
"Joe Saward's Grand Prix Blog is not only the best F1 blog I have read but one of the best blogs I have read. Period."
http://blogs.msdn.com/stevecla01/archive/2010/03/14/the-best-f1-blog-you-may-never-have-read.aspx
not everyday you show some love to microsoft people. :D
blimey :)
day job sometimes requires the use of microsoft stuff. plus IE9 looks brilliant. i just wish it were out now not next year.
i'm a microsoft guy too, but... now you're praising IE9?!
who are you and what have you done with mr c? :P
i mean, IE9 is great, it's just that it's so out of character for you to praise MS. :P
That's because most of what they do is rubbish!
I would say they make rather excellent consoles but... well...
They do... but... they don't. ;)
A lot, but I wouldn't say most. :) Windows XP and 7 are good. Bing isn't too shabby, either.
hehe. have you seen what they're proposing? http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2010/03/16/html5-hardware-accelerated-first-ie9-platform-preview-available-for-developers.aspx
i'll take all of that please. the only issue is, by the time it hits the shelves it may be out of date again.
Ah, well, you got me there. I haven't been allowed near Windows 7 yet.
Could be, but i think they'll get moving to release it on time - Firefox is getting too close for comfort.
I'll have it permanently when I get a new lappy this year. But I testdrove the beta, and it was pretty darn good. :)
seeing as the vista machine died, and we still have to test against IE8, you may have to soon.
Wooohooo, Sims machine!
I mean... yea. Testing websites and that.
:D
lil'sweetheart
how does one buy a windows laptop? surely not a trip to pc world?
on the internet?
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/
?
Please let's not go to PC World. They are hateful and condescending.
but where do you start? microsoft.com/uk/store doesn't do anything. i'm lost.
there a question, do microsoft actually make computers? or just OS's and software?
xbox
My last trip resulted in the shop assistant explaining to me that a router I was looking wouldn't support Xbox's or Playstations because 'he didn't have a console mode', and directed me to one that was nearly £100 more expensive to much amusement :)
This is the store: http://emea.microsoftstore.com/UK/?WT.mc_id=MSCOMUK_Homepage_Navigation_AllProducts_Homepage
But I don't think it has actual machines.
yes, from a console perspective. but from a pc perspective, software only.
anyhoo, gotta go to bed - wanna join the vivaf1 quiz tonight. see ya! :D
laters.
See ya later Journeyer
*revises ahead of quiz* ;)
It does have proper mice in, though, which is +1 for Microsoft :)
Blimey forgot about that, see ya.
Hey everyone.
:)
what are the specs for the latest sims game?
chap.
Stoopid. This is one of my experiences: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2005/12/22/judgement/
http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq
Dare I ask what you bought?
amazon of course ;)
You think I can remember 2005?
boo, a bootcamped mac mini won't cut it.
Oh my goodness!
I think Lou must be the only person who has come out of PC world with a positive experience
heh.
Although I secretly want to just stick with the Sims 2 cos I love it.
Same here :P
#forchristine
Just to let you know that some of the podcast links on STYA don't work.
It's very much a work in progress.
fair enough! i was browsing around and just thought i'd let you know in case you didnt, but you do, so all the words ive just written were a tad pointless.
Nope, thanks for letting me know. Always useful.
How about this?
http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21
ha! easily.
Problem solved!
no sims 3 at all?
Sims 2 is better
#sorryWillWright
Well, since I started craving me some Sims (#blameLukeh), I want to play the University thing. Sims 3 is cool and all but... meh.
madness. but ok.
You know how, like, Tomb Raider is not so good now but the other ones are ace?
gotya.
ohh I now can haz html5 video thingies too.
hmmm?
I have to browser ff and midori. And with the lastest upgrade of Midori I can now watch those test videos than don't work in ff.
*two
ahh cool. do these play the html5 versions, or flash versions:
http://sidepodcast.com/video/
if it doesn't have a swirly thing, does that mean it's html?
i usually right-click when playing an check to see if the menu says "adobe flash player".
nope none of that.
w00t! these should all be html5 audio too: http://sidepodcast.com/category/podcasts/
yep, I can stop being grumpy about h.264 now.
What was the other thing you mentioned a while ago? About the search or something.
yay.
ummm....
A lot more detail regarding the career mode in F1 2010, which is sounding quite fantastic: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/f1-2010s-career-mode-detailed
oh wait, the funky search box in the top right?
YES! I vaguely remember there was something that didn't work in FF yet?
I want to play it, like, now.
that's the one. in safari/chrome, it remembers recent searches and has an 'x' to clear previous searches. by default the text should say "search sidepodcast".
I'm so totally not gonna just hang around in the Williams garage for my entire career.
Ah man, I cant wait to read that. It's too bad I'm at work...
I may accidently start at Virgin
I'd be happy to drive for Force India, seems that car is making a turn for the better.
I like how someone on Twitter just recommended the game have a 'For Sure' option in the press conferences :D
What about a "I was having a s$^@" option when Martin Brundle asks you where you were during his grid walk?
All I can say is SWWEEEEETTTTTT!!!!!!!
I just watched that clip again, I forgot that Martin replied to Kimi with, "I'm sure your car will be lighter then." Clever.
AWE-SOME! :D
Midori has the last two although the x isn't quite an x, but it doesn't remember anything.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/screenshot-png
Joe with his latest post just started to make me hyperventilate a little bit. The idea of Formula One coming to Portland International Raceway...
To bad there is no way that it will ever... ever... ever... happen.
Luckily I have Canada to go to this year. I went to the last USGP and thought it might be the last I'd see until I move back to Europe.
good stuff, i likes this browser :)
Mr C another question: If I would put the torrent feed: http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast/torrent in a normal un-miro not torrent client, can I still download files or would there be an error message?
me too. It still has some small problems but it is perfect for when I got my Internet throttled and ff won't work anymore.
Anyone else think that this is raaather funny?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8571798.stm
interesting tweet:
What a coincidence that @gpupdate always translates Spanish quotes exactly as I do..
http://twitter.com/EliGP/statuses/10620498535
i think you'll download the 1kb torrent file
thus far, no response from @GregoryHainesF1
ohhh I tried it and it downloaded the audio file. I used gpodder, I've never tried that one before so I don't know what it can do. But unlike with miro there was no obvious torrenting going on.
i have no idea how that works then :)
not that i want to stoke said fire, and i know nothing about this all, but @gregoryhainesf1 is from Barcelona, so that may have something to do with the translation? him being able to speak spanish et al?
Is the torrent feed better for you because if people would use it they would also seed the files or does that play no role and downloading through torrents is generally better for you?
Evening everyone :)
no clue, shall pay more attention from now on though :)
I just added a comment to this interesting article to Scott Joslin's blog (tipped off by Mr C's tweet):
F1 Debate: Bahrain Grand Prix – F1’s damp squid - http://bit.ly/b9bDWI
the former. seeding reduces our bandwidth costs, if the server is the sole seeder, then they remain the same.
I can't stop being pedantic... Although I have had to give up on the whole fewer thing on the internet. It's just too much.
ha. had no idea.
huh?
(hearts)
Sadly I actually do have to go (back) to work now :(
btw, i thought you ignored my "reading" tweets?
i think he made an exception to be pendantic :D
kathi, you may have found a bug in the torrent feed. just looking into it, but i don't think it's working.
OK. *deletes feed from gpodder and adds it back to torrentclient*
:) :)
People get mixed up between "less" and "fewer". It's my worst tic every time I hear it wrong it makes me cross in my head.
Less is for things where you don't know the real number eg "there is less rice here than there was, Bassano has eaten some". Versus, "in this basket I have five items or fewer".
Fewer goes with discrete things.
I did...
I cannot tell a lie.
For those following along from this morning the DR took a bad turn when all the users arrived and it turned out that Exchange wasn't syncing between sites as much as one might hope.
oh
To make this even clearer... "There's less rice than there was", and "there's five fewer grains of rice", "There are fewer grains of rice than there was". Are all right.
Lets not even get on to continuous and continual :)
i buggered something up in feedburner, it was displaying the mp3 feed.
could i get you to try it again? it should now torrent properly in torrentclient and download the torrent file in any other feedreader.
thanks for spotting that!
life must be very stressful for you :)
hello
My life would be so much better if the McLaren website didn't keep jumping around every time I move the mouse an inch.
Evening all
Hi Lou. Looks like you just beat me
How's it going?
I can't believe the mess they have made of it. The content this year is vastly better than they have ever had but it is a mess. I hate the top menu appearing and disappearing at random and I hate all those paragraphs with a plus sign at the end.
Exactly that.
yep gpodder downloads tiny files and tries to make me believe they are mp3s :)
miro downloads fine but my torrent client has problems. It seem it knows what mp3 feeds are but not torrent feeds.
oh no!
and just as I write that it finally works.
Better than i was yesterday :) Which may have something to do with my lovely textiles teacher, awesome friends and the fact i actually slept yesterday. i get a day off this evening too before the musical starts tomorrow :) How are you Christine?
hey
Amy left a photo from Melbourne on dropio for you but dropio seems to have died
Apparently it was handbags at dawn in the media centre this weekend. Heikki Kulta had been doing an 'exclusive' one-on-one interview with Martin Whitmarsh when he spotted another scribe hanging around with his dictaphone pointing in their direction. He warned the fellow off, but the guy didn't leave... and, later on, published the transcript on his own website, whence it was filched by the other Finnish media. Heikki was furious! {Comment #476}
We need private interview rooms adjoining the main media bit, bookable in advance for a reasonable time slot, for stuff like this...
http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/10633653799
Nice and subtle. I like the approach
a guy in a Lotus Racing jacket dropped by the Orange shop, asking about mobile broadband. I asked for his name when doing a credit check on him and he said Tom Webb. For anyone who's signed up for the media section of the team's site, he's the guy that looks after it all! I gave my congratulations to the team getting both cars to the finish in Bahrain. :) {Comment #495}
Marvellous!
Same old, same old :)
:) still famous then? *runs away from being pushed* :P
@Lou
Amy's photo. It load really slowly
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc07492-medium-jpg
hehe. earlier today she was more popular than david mitchell but not quite as popular as rhod gilbert.
40 Minuted into The call with my Dad: The external disk that I'd chosen is cheaper in some other obscure place but atually not really very goos anyway. We are now on option 5 ... *sighs*
Clearly I have missed somthing
:)
words from a microsoft blogger:
"Joe Saward's Grand Prix Blog is not only the best F1 blog I have read but one of the best blogs I have read. Period." {Comment #513}
Wow! I have to say that Steve has good taste :) Maybe there should be an "Evening With Joe" at Seattle? ;)
Hush it.
itunes? you were her last night... or had you gone to sleep? alison spotted christine was on the hompage.
she now has the 14th most popular podcast in the uk, david mitchell is 13th.
damnit!
#confidential
Brawn GP?? (hearts) Australia for being in 2009. Amy should go ask if they are gonna be needing it anymore..
Wooohooo, Sims machine!
I mean... yea. Testing websites and that. {Comment #527}
Like your priorities :D
...and vastly more popular than that popular sports quiz show that we don't like to talk about, bearing no resemblance to sidepodpanel.
That is really good. Though why anyone would prefer David Mitchell I don't know
She could bring it with her
*searches through comments to understand the comment*
.....
Oh my gosh! that's awesome!!
she really IS famous :)
*big pushes*
true story.
Hello all, just checked iTunes, in the Sports and Recreation F1 Minute is No 2, only beaten by the Chequered Flag. How fantastic!
heheheh!
today i have learnt that f1 minute scales so much more effectively than sidepodcast, i propose that all debriefs from here on in are one minute in length.
how scary is it that the bcc are that popular though? they're not being plugged anywhere and are still dominating the charts.
*bbc
hehehehe :D
#youpushbecauseit'strue
Errr....
Only every 5 minutes on Radio 5Live....
And F1minute is being plugged where?...
current option: An internal disk + case. To make my very own external disk
DAD!!!
i agree, its more "scary" that F1 Minute is that popular! great, but as Lady Snowcat says, its the least plugged show and so thats just people finding it. BBC on a podcast automatically means it's got an advantage over its competitors, even if its rubbish
geek!
I use iTunes to catch up with BBC programmes that I miss so I download a lot of BBC "podcasts" which are really just repeats of radio programmes. If I'm looking in the store I will often go to the BBC first to see if they have a show. I think it's familiarity and an expectation of quality which is not always fulfilled. I assume lots of other people do the same as me.
that's my point.
(disclaimer: i very much dislike the bbc, what it stands for and how it uses my money)
it could well be that.
you do have to ask how commercial companies are every meant to compete though?
they can't, but theres no money in podcasts so in that field it dosent matter too much but i agree with the point
Evening all, finally I can relax and look forward to viva f1's quiz :)
Evening
Sleep cures everything I reckon...
Everytime thats mentioned today I seem to come back on.
Hey.
you're suggesting overtaking in f1 could be improved by sleep?
I think you're picking up Mav and Jackie's headping
Well I fell asleep for 10 minutes in bahrain and when I woke up, Vettel had lost the lead... so...
actually, it works.
i fall asleep about 10 laps in, wake up with 10 laps to go.
best.race.ever!
ha!
I had forgotten your previous on the subject....
That could be a problem.
But of course....
It's always a ton better in your dreams....
Maybe they're picking up yours.
RRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
gosh.. f1 is becoming nascar with both left and right corners isn't it? :(
don't lose faith just yet!
Nascar road courses :P
i haven't... but that comment could easily be applied to nascar.. i think..
ooh! That's what I do!
These days it's as cheap to buy already assembled, off the shelf. At leas in Aust it is.
I have access to wholesale pricing so let me know if I can help. I suspect shipping may kill the savings. I'm OzJez on Twitter.
Do you have websites like staticice.com.au over there or shops like jbhifi.com.au ??
I'm not here - I have an early meeting that I have been late for twice now. Let's not make it 3 times in a row :-)
Was looking at the other podcasts in Sports & Recreation & went back to the main page - F1 Minute is No 1 - WoooHooo :)
and christine jumped to 13th. mitchell sneaked up to 10th though.
#TEDNEWS

Mitchell!!!!! *shakes fist*
:)
That makes Christine famous.
How are commercial companies meant to compete? ;)
:D
that is also a really good point i hadn't considered.
Interesting comment from a friend who I caught up with this afternoon by the way, he's a casual fan of F1 and whilst he tries to watch most races, he didn't get to see much last year. I asked him what he thought of Bahrain and whilst he didn't like the fact that it was so boring, what put him off the most was actually Legard commentating.
Ahem... seeing as we all fell asleep at the weekend we can dream about overtaking - so yes ;)
Although I've explained to him now about crofty and ant, so he's going to try them out next week if he gets up ;)
I just found it interesting that he placed that higher in terms of things that would put him off watching over the fact the racing was a bit dull
Disclaimer: NASCAR on road courses is properly awesome!
Legard is 10x better than what we have in the states. When the lights go out, you cant even tell the race has started if you're just listening.
A good commentator makes all the difference, they can make an average race into a good one and a good one into an average race, works both ways. or make a bad race worse!
I am trying really hard to get my mate to listen to 5Live instead of Legard!
He's absolutely right. A good commentator really makes the difference and can keep you interested...
Tis. I'm quite surprised at how fast they go round corners actually.
I would love to know if there is anyone who likes Legard out there.
There might be light at the end of the tunnel: A disk that was used as a display model but with full warranty and original packaging for €20 less than a new one
f1 badger keeps telling me he's ace! i had no idea badger's smoked illegal substances.
janna, what's the etiquette on retweeting protected tweets?
Mrs Legard?
I can think of better, but I dont mind him if that counts for anything.
I like him - I just don't like his commentary! Apart from that he seems a jolly nice fellow :)
No, I mean in terms of his commentary of course. I mean he seems like a really nice bloke apart from that.
No idea for other people, but if you want to retweet any of mine, that's fine with me.
vee8 loves him too!
I think Badger likes him because they met him...
ta. tweetdeck just warned me and i figured i didn't know the answer.
madness.
Me either. I'm only protected as I don't want someone I know following me, looking at who else follows me & seeing lots of women offering pictures of themselves (I know we've been through this before ;) ). If I've sent something to you, please feel free to do with it what you wish.
appreciated.
i decided the other week to conduct an experiment, and retweet anyone who complimented / criticised sidepodcast. it's looking a bit one-sided at the moment, because no-one's really had a go at us since i started!
i've noticed the positive ones but not so much negative ones.
whats the experiment?
as in, what do you hope to gain knowledge of
That's because there's nothing to have a go at - you know you are 5 pints of awesome
a short detour to ebay for option 9 disk
Someone sent me an email complaining about the F1 Minute spoiler headlines if that helps.
how scary is it that the bcc are that popular though? they're not being plugged anywhere and are still dominating the charts. {Comment #666}
Their plug is their brand. Visible/audible for several hours per weekend to anyone in the UK dedicated enough to F1 to want to listen. People go to the BBC, look at the F1 section, download the Chequered Flag out of curiosity... ...and get hooked.
recently? or the one from last year?
i was hoping that putting compliments / complaints out into a wider audience would drive conversation. but it hasn't really happened.
person x didn't like something, so i'd retweet it and see if other people felt the same. i think complaints drive conversation more than compliments, but we aren't getting many :(
that a good thing though surely? means you're doing something right!
A brand new one. It wasn't a tweet though, so not much help :)
you do have to ask how commercial companies are every meant to compete though? {Comment #675}
Niche marketing. Which is how most late-21st-century marketing will work, so the commercial sector might as well get some practise now!
either that or no-one's listening :)
it's killed my experiment though.
Was looking at the other podcasts in Sports & Recreation & went back to the main page - F1 Minute is No 1 - WoooHooo :)
That makes Christine famous.
How are commercial companies meant to compete? ;) {Comment #699}
OK, maybe niche marketing doesn't have to be very niche ;)
A good commentator makes all the difference, they can make an average race into a good one and a good one into an average race, works both ways. or make a bad race worse! {Comment #707}
Agreed. Having Martin Brundle commentating for USA 2005 stopped me from going spare at the whole thing. James Allen rose to the occasion too, resulting in arguably the best-deserved of the ITV F1 BAFTA awards.
hehe.
i think complaints drive conversation more than compliments, but we aren't getting many :( {Comment #732}
Probably because we're used to you producing consistent excellence and now expect it...
Quick reminder, VIVA F1 quiz starts in 30 mins:
http://www.vivaf1.com/chat.php
you know you were talking about how the bbc advertise their podcasts and sidepodcast isn't advertised as much?... well it seems 5livef1 are promoting sidepodcast for you :P
@thedementor also available in audio form are the crew @sidepodcast they also have some reviews of the podcasts as well
https://twitter.com/5LiveF1/status/10635075953
okay, fine. i take back what i said about the bbc earlier.
i don't even like itv, i have no idea why i care anyhow?
do you like any tv companies?
I am going to have to miss that tonight.
...
...
not really.
the 5live f1 team (heart) you guys as much as us! it's awesome :) you can still hate the bbc though :P
We have more or less decided on the disk, but which bag?!?!?
ah well then, the BBC shouldnt get too offended just yet
5live are really usp content and we love them.
are you sure it's the right disk for you though?
hehe i figured.. not sure i've ever seen you without the USP content hat on.. :D
Well I asked 5Live to plug my blog and they did, so I'm happy ;)
*cries*
i mean - you don't want to rush out and buy the right disk for you, saving yourself hours of endless debating, do you?
Apparently @ThisisFormula1 is not the official account:
http://twitter.com/ThisisFormula1/status/10636550383
Nah, why would I do that? Where is the fun in that? :)
You should have listened to us when I bought my desktop. It took 5 weeks.
i was right, mark webber is at that lunch thingy
are you stalking?
The $10 steak one?
no, the legends of sport one at the casino. I doubt I can go, my lunch break wont cover the time to crown and back.
Done. Btw we decided on the first one but from a different shop @ amazon. You can all admire it at Spa (if it survives that long) :D

This isn't Nando is it?
http://twitter.com/NanoAlonso
Doesn't seem Fernando enough to me... if that makes sense...
nope.
No, Fernando has much better English than that. Looks like Flavio typed up that stuff.

There is a round about Timo Glock in tonight's Quiz
I feel there has been some financial discussions prior to this with a fellow commentor

:D
ooh new phone is onboard with city parcel delivery driver. I hope this building is near the start of his delivery list.
exciting!
Cue amy sitting my the window waiting and staring?
There's th.. oh, nope... here he i... nah... ooh!! no....
hi guys - just thought I'd say hello, new to this place and loving it so far! I've become a bit obsessed with twitter cos of sidepodcast too!
Welcome mr redhead :)
mrs! lol!
i wish i could but my desk is nowhere near the window that looks over the street :(
Ooh my bad *sheepishly apologises*
Ooh, hello! You are featured in this post: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/16/everybody-needs-an-f1happyplace/
:)
:D
That's everyone isn't it?
no worries ;)
As much as I promise myself I won't do that when I'm expecting a delivery, I always do. So yep, I think so :P
Nice one Lukeh. Normally my job to get that wrong so you saved me.
Hi RocketRedhead
hehe :)
ooh thank you! i really enjoyed that happy place stuff - was nice to see everyone elses memories
Hey!! welcome to SPC, take a look at this page to help get to grips with all the awesome commenting things :).
true story.
ehehehehe :)
yay!!! you're a Jenson fan too! :)

oooh, in that case, rocket we made a special big pic just for
louyou: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/17/reflecting-his-confidence/#confidentialfromlou
Steven, can you persuade Amy to try and get the Brawn sign in the Ausi paddock for me?... :)
:(
:)
How frustrating is that? They need to have a GPS in the truck.
gotta work on that confidential tagging
meanie! :P
I am sure she would not have photographed it if she had not intended getting it. Besides she says she has only a light bag to bring to Europe so no reason why she can't carry a sign
lol! thanx :)
thanx for that - wasn't sure what all that hash tag stuff was
if i was going to take any old sign it would be the kimi one!
Just before I go, the Realtime Doohickey page needs updating as:
Cons
Original post content is not as accessible (ie. not as useful for streaming video)
Is no longer applicable since the fantastic updates earlier in the year
Night all
well.. when you get the Kimi one.. you can get the Brawn one too.. ;)
Best place to follow what is going on is www.sidepodcast.com/realtime That way you see all new comments on all threads.
THe site is a bit quiet just now because some people are at the vivaF1 quiz
They all need updating. It's on my list, but some silly man keeps changing everything. I can't keep up!!
Take both and you can bring the Kimi one to show Kathi
And doing very badly :(
Stupid Bernie.
...ohhh!!!!
#earlymorningraid
night Janna
Night :)
they have 24 hour security :( step one foot into pit lane and they know :(
but...but...
maybe you can ask Joe when you see him??
Usually when theres a time slot of 8 hours, I tend to go to the toilet at exactly the point theres a knock on the door.
Wear dark clothes. It always works in the movies.
You should open MS Paint and draw yourself something that looks like a paddock pass. I'm sure they wont notice
Get a mop and take off the end, say you're bernie
Oooooo....
That is a great idea....
Night Janna
Just realised that by following the Algie tweets you can learn a totally new lingo...
JAIMEALGUERSUAR Arrived at luton, ready to go sleeping very very tired! Llege a luton, listo para la cama muy muy
Shame it's not a different language....
Get overalls that say "Amy's signwriters" on the back and tell them you need to take that sign back.
I decided to help your cause
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/berniepass-png
It's exactly the same
i should ask lewis for help. Reebok told me he is a criminal.
the picture is so lifelike! ;)
there you go! get Lewis to steal the signs for you!!!
you forgot her purple boots.
A picture of Harry Potter, photoshopped with Grey Hair could work too.
Did the Spot the Difference get posted?
http://i39.tinypic.com/2rzz32r.png
blimey!
Of the greatest driver ever, isn't Mav nice?
blockquote>Did the Spot the Difference get posted?i've spotted one so far, how many are there?
I got all the Timo questions right!
okay... what have you got on mav?
Err, nothing...
5 :)
whoops!
hehe happens to the best of us ;)
That was a good quiz tonight, although I preferred the first half. Mostly because, looking at the answers, I got every single one wrong on the second half.
you sure it isn't one? cause i have one.
i have 4 now
what? you just got here
i dunno.. it's usually 5...
i have 5... #confidentialfrommrc
sorry! :)
are you helping each other? like, jb fans united or something?
hee hee!
that's a guilty laugh if ever i... read one.
Are you picking on the new girl, you big bully.
:D hehe! that sounds like a plan, but i'm sure Rocket will get the next one easily, JB fans are awesome don'tcha know ;)
I'm enjoying having another JB fan around :)
lol - i wish - this last one is driving me mad - i may be up all night if i can't find it!
They are different?
who else has more than one difference, but isn't in league with jb anonymous?
oh shoot.
I have 5!
Moi, I got all 5. It was the Timo effect.
And hey Rocket, may be late, but hey!
right... chances that lukeh will side with me over lou? you may as well be their honorary member.
yay! :)
rg. will you come and help me an paul, we need clues?
(or answers)
hahahaha :D there are 3 really easy ones.. 2 are much more difficult though...
coughnearthebackcough
Does it help if I say I can't see any?
TWO!
cheers rg.
i think it means you're in our gang by default.
i don't know if i've found the easy or the hard ones but i'm starting to get annoyed at it now!
Who's back? They all have their back turned
coughitshardtosteerwithoutwheelscough
:) *cheers you on* you can do it!! :) goo team JB *ehem...*
no pressure then!
Who is the madman that did these photos? I am meant to be working.
Just a quick question regarding my New Team championship. Do you think it would be better to include retirements, or just count the drivers in as if they had finished?
:)
?
Half points for retirements?
Glad it's not just me. I don't see any wheels.
That's a misleading clue....
i have the wheel at the back, but that was the last clue. i can't see any others?
Exactly...
who's side is he on?
What time is it?
oh if you have that one there is another one at the back...
#whyamihelping?
#goteamJB
It was what I was thinking, thanks.
Who knows, I change like the weather.
Can I bill Mav for lost productivity? I think I have a meeting to go to in 10 minutes.
i've already got those ones - i'm stuck!
is that a clue?
I disagree. Too easy!
Actually, it could be.
Yay, I found something! Yay!
Now I can go to work.
There's 1 difference, right? :D
i would say tell me the ones you have got... but then that would tell the others....
which?
yep
Maybe a percentage of points available for that position, from distance of race completed. Is that more difficult? (thats if you could understand the explanation in the first place)
yeah we best keep it to ourselves...
Think blue.
I'm outa here
you missed mine then
not that i'm competitive.... :)
i did. i thought we were doing "who's on first"!
Sounds like you need to dry off... (wink)
See ya
... Yes, quite a bit more difficult.
I think seeing as we are judging these teams strictly then RG should do too with his points...
YES! three.
i got it! thanks!
woop woop team jb wins!
I'm glad he isn't standing in the rain
pah!
The more I think about it, the more I think it would be easier to keep the same points.
just.tell.me.
YAY!!! :D wohhoooo!! :)
Look at the umbrella
:D
consider yourself lucky you've got 3
I CANT FIND ANY!!! AAAH
Tell me you spotted the towel.... or whatever it is?
those clues were as subtle as a sledgehammer
:D
Keep it as it is
the towel?
i give up!
I only got that one third
yes.
have you looked at the umbrella?
i have:
- umbrella
- trolley
- towel
You see Timo's Helmet, right?
to repeat an earlier clue... what time is it?
which makes it sound like i'm packing for a very odd holiday.
timo time?
Oh dear, I can hear something, but where is it coming from?
yes and timo.
i'm sure one of the engineers may know...
What. Time. Is. It.?
ahha!!!
four
i've been trying to think of a clue for that one for ages, but mine were so obvious.
i don't think he'll get it
Chico time?
It is a hard one.
time i was doing something more productive.
i liked it when these were easy.
Does anyone have a link to the answers thread on Viva?
is that a clue?
The one before it was.
its never Chico Time, ever.
While you're messing about, I have a ping: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/17/17-mar-10-lopez-hits-out-at-us-f1-failure/
don't show mr c yet! he's so close..

You need to do the full quiz next week then
its done on download numbers? or subscribers

StPatricks Day = too much beer
Nice Job People = Morning off
I should have started this 'work' lark earlier!
i looked at some of the questions - i don't have that much knowledge! only a good eye for spot the difference
:P
TIMO!!!!!!
*Tifosi logs off my computer
Hey folks
i really should be doing the washing up before hubby gets home...
...oh well!
Hey Leigh
hey
Hi Leigh and Hi Joe
hey
tell him about SPC, i'm sure he'll understand why the washing up didn't get done :)
delegation of tasks is the key
hope everyone is well thonight
If Alison turns up later, please tell her my dishes need doing too! :D
he has listened when i've had it on - and he likes f1 but prefers american football - zzz
that's cool, we live comment the superbowl too.
Its like GP2, only with less collisions ;)
i don't like watching it on tv - it bores me - been to a few of the wembley games tho - really good live
oooo that reminds me when does GP2 come back? at the first European gp?
I can imagine her reply.
I think its time for bed!
Yes, Barcelona, 8-9 May.
http://paddock.gp2series.com/index.php?post/2010/01/28/GP2-Series-2010-season-Calendar
Speaking of GP2, how many GP2 cars do you figure will lap the circuits quicker than the new teams in F1?
...and I'm supposed to be grouting the bathroom floor...
No, I don't think that's what her reply would be...
:D
awesome!
What's he doing?
You shouldn't be doing that yourself in case you are overcome with grouting fumes. Far safer just chatting here
that doesn't sound very fun at all. specially as it's nearly 11pm. You should stay and chat to us #badinfluence.
he's at work on a late shift
I think it could be about booking flights
not fun, very messy - but tiling the bathroom gave me the perfect opportunity to listen to SPC!
Maybe something that rhymes with booking? Although I can't see that.
Hehe, im flying back to the uk for a week to see her next month, could be convenient for a sidepodmeetup?
Anyhow, I'll leave it at just an idea for now, bedtime for me!
Night all!
and now not grouting the bathroom gives you the perfect opportunity to chat :)
i feel like i'm doing Steven's job of persuading...
night Nick
Those were the flights she was complaining about
night!
I need a persuasion assistant. You're hired
time for me to go too, night all
Night Nick and night from me. lotsa love.
Night
Shift change.
Good night to those leaving
hahaha!
i know - but will have to go once he gets home anyway - haven't seen him all day as have been tiling! not for another 30 to 40 mins yet tho
night to all who are going
do you have a mobile phone? you could comment your progress.
what's your persuasion?
hahaha!
what? what?
For some reason people arrive and leave in groups just like a shift change
To use Alex's favourite phrase pictures or it didn't happen
One Sunday a few months ago one commenter was making a mess of putting up blinds while streaming video of it so another slightly more competent commenter went round and did the job for him. Still with streaming video natuarally.
you think he is kidding ;) us at spc would wait eagerly for updates and twitpics of your progress....
I didn't know it was Sebring this weekend. Is Franck racing there?
aww sorry to disappoint - my tiling got finished today - only grouting the floor left
sadly not. bordais is though. we'll probs have a live thread.
There are no Audis either. Although Audi have their modified car ready now.
is this the thing Ant was preparing for last weekend?
i also don't know how to do twitpics yet either...
and by thing i mean race...
http://www.twitpic.com/
Could be. 12 hour race in Florida that Peugeot are guaranteed to win
very simple. go to twitpic.com, log in with your twitter details and it gives you an email address.
emailing anything to that address uploads it, anything in the subject becomes your tweet.
or you can simply upload the pics from your computer.. :)
le mans and sebring, yup.
So Ant may win?
I can't find an entry list on either the Sebring site or the ALMS site. It's a 12 hour race so that means 3 drivers per car normally so there is a good chance Ant will be there.
i may be being slightly hopeful here..
I still don't believe they can make a car that both Ant and Wurz can fit in
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81637
:)
I assume there are two Peugeots and he is in one of them and they will be strong favourites so if he is there he has a great chance of winning
So Ant is replacing Brabham in the crew that won Le Mans
yay!!! I'm gonna have to try take an interest so i can cheer on Ant, although i may be very busy this weekend... i wonder if i can persuade Lukeh to give me updates.... hmmmm
entry list: http://j.mp/aICFWD
DC is taking a Red Bull out to play in Belfast on Saturday
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/82205
i just found out that the other supervisor at work got the new job he applied for. This is great for me since I was told I would replace him if he got it. :D :D :D :D i just hope they werent lying :(
Alex Wurz and Ant in one team!! that's just awesome! it's almost like it's a honda/brawn team! :)
Just need Jenson
Go you
that would be slightly to much to handle all in one team... i'd be waaaaaay too excited and happy, :)
yay! :)
Looks like Sebring testing went badly for one car. The driver is fine but the car has been withdrawn from the race
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82179
Peugeot were fastest in testing not that, that means much
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82198
okay i'm going to take advantage of the fact there have been no rehearsals tonight and get some sleep. Busy busy day tomorrow. Night all! xx
cross your fingers for me! Because i got my first supervisor pay today and it was 33% higher than my old pay. I dont ever want to go back!
Good night
just trying to work out if it costs me money to upload twitpics from my phone
night
my guess, is it costs the price of an email. size of pic will vary cost though.
must be off now i'm afraid, v. tired night xx
g'night rocket
Good night
