Yesterday, I trusted the daily to Mr C and it was almost two hours late, so I have snatched the reigns back for Tuesday. The conversations are mostly still revolving around Bahrain and the impact of the refuelling ban, but there is a dedicated thread for that. Instead, I will point you in the direction of some completely different topics:
- It was a huge week for Christine's Rankings with loads of drivers moving up and down. Mr C commented earlier in the weekend that if Chandhok wasn't leading there would be something very wrong with the world. Thankfully, we don't have that problem!
- I posted our F1 Debrief show yesterday, and it's a good one, mostly because it features a lot of voicemails from our lovely listeners. Rather than listen to us whine about the Bahrain GP, we hear from you guys and what you think. More please.
- I stumbled across the return of Paddock Life. I love the behind the scenes peek, although of course we have such unprecedented access this year that it's not as special as it used to be. Still, there are great stories about Rubens being a bit cheeky, and the grid protest by the drivers.
That'll do it for now. Let us know how your week is going, and I will see you in the comments.
I was reading the ITV season preview in the library yesterday and was astonished about how much of it was not up-to-date. Having USF1 in there was understandable. Profiling Nick Heidfeld and Pedro de la Rosa as the most likely Sauber and Campos GP drivers respectively less so. The thing that took the cake for me, though, was listing all of the Ferrari 2009 drivers' nationalities as "?" !
Meanwhile, I can't believe the Paddock Talk story about the GPDA chairman not being replaced yesterday due to the timely intervention of some cleaning staff...
The TV coverage at the weekend mentioned Vettel's race engineer was Rocky, after a bit of team radio. Turns out he used to be at Newman Haas in ChampCar.
From @OriolServia (supersub!)
Good for Alonso and Santander but how about how dominant was Vettel?! His engineer Is Rocky, we worked together @NewmanHaas, he is the best
i am finally going to get donuts!
The discussion about F1 becoming more accessible yesterday..
Read this page and Bernie's comments about this luxury watch brand he is gonna sell at gp's:
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/82168]]
"These will not be the sort of watches aimed as being mass marketed in supermarkets. Instead, luxury watch boutiques will be set up in the Paddock Club – and the centrepiece of the brand will be the strictly limited edition 'F1 King'.
Ecclestone said: "I have long had a keen interest in watches and the art of watch making and I am very pleased to be announcing this deal today."
Did anyone notice the paddock club grandstand at Bahrain, looked to my eyes, empty !? Think it was at the end of the pitlane, by the exit.
didn't see it but bernie is clearly completely senile.
"Yesterday, I trusted the daily to Mr C and it was almost two hours late, so I have snatched the reigns back for Tuesday."
oops.
"I stumbled across the return of Paddock Life. I love the behind the scenes peek, although of course we have such unprecedented access this year that it's not as special as it used to be."
it's still handy to have the info in one place, but yeah, twitter have have blunted that concept :(
Petrov retired because a shim fell out of his suspension because the bolt holding it was damaged. From Scarbs

donut was amazing but thats the second day in a row i forgot my salad in the fridge
is it odd that i'm now craving salad more than a donut? must be time to sleep.
That is odd, but sleep is probably a better idea.
tis 31 degrees so when i finish work in an hour im going to go down to albert park since i havent gone down to watch construction this year and it closes to the public on monday. Then im going to suss out where the evening with joe is as i have no idea.
9 tram routes use this stop and the only one of those i need just went past without stopping. So mad! My prime exploring time is turning into prime standing and waiting time
i have arrived at the beach! Lovely day for it. I hope the gp temp will be like this but i know it wont be :(
woah. Joe has chosen a lovely venue!
just realised I an wearing a mclaren shirt. This will not be subtle at the track at all.
Oh well... Nothing to be ashamed of! :D
yay the garages are named! That is my favourite part of construction!
oh they arent named properly. Where i am standing it goes "force india, alonso, kovy, bmw saucer, piquet" :D
Maybe they know something we don't :P
mmmmm bmw saucer.
stupid predictive text! I shall go home now and twitpic my results. Have to go back to work and get the groceries i left there first though!
Did you find the yacht club?
Morning all!
Is it just me or did Legard seem to make more mistakes than he even usually does? His inability to tell teams and team mates apart is astonishing for a lead commentator. Thank goodness Brundle is there to put him right and tell him off for not listening.
On a completely different note, I love comic books and though it will never happen I'd love to see a F1 Year in Review Graphic Novel! If not that then maybe a Tokyopop style comic book using actual photos from the season - now that would be very cool!
He seemed to confuse Brundle at one point with the Virgin and HRT pit stops.
Morning
Morning!
Is there any way of you speaking any slower during your podcast? (Christine) Your masterful grasp of F1 and thinking the way I do has made you the best internet coverage of all things F1. The race was slow, bit boreing, and needed more smoke from Weber!
Keep it up, and slow it down!
Mike C.
Ventura California, USA
I thought of Lou when I saw this garage today :D
Hi Mike. Not much I can do on the speed front, I'm afraid. I tried to slow it down for about six months and it made no difference whatsoever. We still got complaints. In the end, I just have to say I am what I am. Apologies.
Morning all.
It's still named Brawn??
Hello everyone.
Just like Darth Vader was still called Anakin Skywalker until the end ;)
He was redeemed at the end, though. ;)
Do you think they will paint the cars white again? :D
:P Ask Darth's son...
Mick Schumacher in an F1 car. That would be something! :D
On a completely different note, I love comic books and though it will never happen I'd love to see a F1 Year in Review Graphic Novel! {Comment #25}
That would be different - maybe we should go about drawing it ourselves?
Sounds like a job for Lukeh
Is there any way of you speaking any slower during your podcast? (Christine) {Comment #28}
If you play the sound through a program like Winamp, you can get plugins to alter the speed a file plays at (sometimes I resort to this if I'm having a bad hearing day, especially with podcasts that include people who mumble/have thick accents). That would slow Christine's voice down without changing the podcast for anyone else.
Good point. The iphone and ipod touch can do that too
I don't understand the problem - Christine and Mr.C both speak very clearly and not that fast - especially compared to most TV programmes (has anyone seen the West Wing lately?).
My suggestion to the guy would be to buy an iPod Touch...
♥ iPod Touch.
He has a name, Gavin. Not really a fan of the tone you've taken with new people recently.
I've have just realised that only the wings are in this picture: http://www.fernandoalonso.com/imagenes/galeria/grandes/Bahrein_140310_31_G.jpg
I assumed the whole car was there. oops.
If it weren't for Massa, I would've said that this team has become Renault Redux, with Alonso and Fisi there.
Stefano is funny in that picture.
"Here are my two little boys, see? They did so well today."
:D
Wow.
Christine, I was sticking up for you (with a compliment too) and trying to help Mike C out by offering a suggestion. Yeah OK maybe I was a little rude to Thomas the other day but I think you have the wrong idea here.
I welcome all new people and only wish to help them out. Just because I was too lazy to use his name does not mean I am criticising him.
That said... where's Rob?
It's almost like he's a priest blessing his drivers the way he holds their heads there...
Oooh - just remembered - NO GINO!!!
Taking the photo? ;-)
Too lazy to read Thomas' comment, too lazy to use Mike's name. It's not very polite.
I appreciate the sentiment behind the comments, but it doesn't seem very welcoming to me. I could be wrong.
:D Indeed. I wonder if he already has a photo in his new job.
So it looks like Bahrain was a really bad idea as the first race.(just reading JA's blog) I wonder how different things will seem after Melbourne.
I think you are being very harsh on the strength of one misplaced comment (which I apologised for) and for not referring to someone's name. I did not realise that would cause offense to be honest.
It was also the first race in 2006. It was no Melbourne, but it was... fine. Same would go for 2010, I think. Not the best race ever, but it was... fine.
Okay. I apologise for being harsh. I thought we were at a point where we could be open and honest about these things. I wasn't trying to pick on you, just pointing out something I'd noticed.
*ferrari fan* :D
hmmm, maybe. OK, I just love Melbourne as the starting race
Bahrain was pants as the season opener in 2006 too IIRC
In 2006, yes. In 2010... not so much. ;)
I do too, trust me. :)
It was... fine. There was that duel between Alonso and Schumacher. And Massa spinning nearly into Alonso's path.
I don't understand the problem - Christine and Mr.C both speak very clearly and not that fast - especially compared to most TV programmes (has anyone seen the West Wing lately?). {Comment #41}
Christine and Mr C do have good diction and audio-friendly voices. Listeners also have different ways of listening, which means even the best audio production cannot satisfy every listener. It's not just people who need spoken audio slowing down - I have encountered someone on the internet who routinely listens to spoken material at least 10% faster than it was originally recorded because it lets him get through the material at the optimum pace for the way he processes sound. Hence why listener-side modifications are useful.
I haven't heard the West Wing lately.
I just cant remember that. I should go back and watch
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82180
Surprisingly, I like BE's idea of restricting tyre usage to the softs, because if that happens, that means that the rule requiring both compounds to be used in a race is nullified, and therefore, there can be more variance on strategy. Whether the variance will actually happen is another matter.
I do regret the Thomas comment because it was bloody stupid, my only excuse is that I get annoyed when I see comments on here having a go at us lot for being anti-schumi and I thought his comment was one of those. I apologised and in hindsight, his commentary was in fact very good.
I was only trying to offer advice for Mike - because I don't think you talk fast (as I can listen to you while working) and I was comparing your speed to those of TV shows (some of which are too fast for me). Honestly, I didn't realise referring to him as "that guy" was offensive in any way, but perhaps that is a matter of opinion or maybe even the fact that my English is affected by living in different places. Who knows. I certainly don't want to scare away the newbies for sure.
Despite what each of us think of the way we speak, people do have trouble with accents as well. Listening to audio is not always easy. It was one of the things you used to learn how to do in the ol' HAM radio days
Maybe the race was good, I don't remember as there were so many last year. But as an event it falls flat I think...
Cool. Then all is well.
I suppose we can only compare it to the fact we refer to her as THAT woman... and it's not a compliment :)
I should get my friend from Trinidad to leave a voicemail - after knowing him for 2½ years I still can't understand him.
The irony is that he can't understand Scottish.
OK, that's a fair call and I'll remember not to refer to people like that in future. I am curious now to see if Mike tries some stuff and how he gets on with it. But don't you slow down or anything please!
I can't! I've tried! It's physically impossible.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82181
A common sense proposal from Sauber to drop the BMW in its name. I guess they've sorted out potential issues with regards to revenue. And I guess they've conceded that a title sponsor won't happen this year.
My parents went out for a meal with me in Liverpool and the waitress came over and asked an inane question like if we wanted water for the table or something.... I answered but after she'd gone both my parents were just looking at me blankly. I think one of them asked if she'd been speaking english! I guess you do get used to it.
When I visit the UK, I have trouble understanding some of the accents - including the Nottingham one, which is weird because I spent my first 14 years there!
I think there may be a link here to this and your preference to double speed podcasts. Perhaps some people process speech in their brains differently to others?
I can listen to double speed if I concentrate, and if I am not tired, single speed while multi-tasking...
Morning everyone
Probably very true. I would like the whole world to be double speed, please.
Morning Lukeh :)
Morning.
Especially Grands Prix? :D
Ooooh, that would be fab!
listening to this weeks show, i still thought i was worse than christine.
i think we can improve and something we're both guilty of is not pausing enough between sentences. needs more white noise i think.
keep hassling us mike, we'll keep trying.
The only thing I have to adjust is that if I am listening to the live show on my PC I have an old Hi-Fi with big speakers hooked up to it and have to turn the Bass Boost off when Mr. C. talks ;)
It could be as much down to the
Red Bullenergy drink effect because either it takes me a few mins to get used to it, or you're both seemingly quite fast and peppy to start with and then naturally seem to peg it back as it goes on. Might be a bit of both. I'm speaking generally rather than this show which I thought was okay personally. But that's not to say you should stop drinking it!If my thoughts get behind I just pause for 30 seconds or so. I'd probably do that anyway to be fair. I'm just rambling really.
For Christine: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/42/robfelipe.jpg
I found it look through the images on the Ferrari website :D
I can't! It's physically impossible!!
Yay! You are my official Rob-finder :)
I just spent 5 minutes or so trying to work out where the car was
Thebn I saw your second sentence. Must wake up.
I'm not sure we've done an energy-drink show for a while, but as Mr C said, the white space would help with the catching up thoughts thing.
hi btw :)
Was it just me or did Rob look quite 'trim' on Sunday?
:D
I'm looking for desktop images, for the first time I think I'm becoming a fan of Ferrari (Fernando and Felipe have something to do with it though ;))
trouble is the images from Ferrari aren't the right resolution for me, I have to stretch them a bit.
you can. i think last time we tried it, we tried to spread the words out... physically talking slower. that isn't the issue, it's the gaps between sentences where we can make life easier. give people's brain time to catch up.
I know how you feel, I always speak too fast. I don't even realise I'm doing it sometimes.
More laughing. That's good gap-noise
Same here. Really like both drivers and the team has become fun!
I am often accused of slurring myself...
I'm hoping I'm not being too critical because I know how terrible I am at speaking out loud :)
I'm the strong silent type :D
Its good, I need a team to support. I haven't supported any since 2007.
be more fun :)
Turns out it was good advice!
more funner even?
I was almost warming to Brawn last year, but other than Williams, I can't support a team really...
Maybe Ferrari at the moment, but I'll have to forget the old days first!
I'm still supporting Brawn, they just for some reason seem to have gone with the BAR approach and given their two drivers different liveries. They're very similar to the Williams and McLaren liveries! ;)
Gah, I couldn't even support Ferrari when Prost went there
http://www.crash.net/f1/video/157757/1/jordan_and_coulthard_on_their_little_love_affair.html

Sidepodcast: The funnest podcast ever!
Why did the koala fall out of the tree? :P
Works with the Apple theme - the funnest computer
nooooooo!
DC lays into Max:
"Revs limited to 18,000rpm, the ban on in-race refuelling, standardised gearboxes and engines, a single tyre supplier; all initiatives introduced during his tenure at the FIA, all of which appear to have done little for the show if Bahrain is anything to go on."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/7450600/David-Coulthard-Max-Mosleys-Formula-One-legacy-has-left-us-with-soporific-spectacle.html
Seems a little harsh. A lot of that was to reduce cost.
To be fair, it was Max who introduced refuelling to start with. He wanted F1 to be a chess match...
good point.
wow! even by joe's standards, this is a bit harsh on sutil:
Robert Kubica was a victim of Sutil’s impetuous ways on this occasion and so he too had to make up places.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/a-look-back-at-bahrain/
A bit surprising, considering no one's really blaming Sutil this time. Was he affected by Webber's engine smoke?
I guess the #BlameSutil hashtag was onto something
Quick F1 game update - tomorrow there should be new screenshots and a video with the developers (Dev Diary) on the progress of the game and obviously footage from within the development team :)
Woo! :D
I has an employers fair to go to.... *secretly hopes there is an FIA stand*
Well a guy can be ridiculously ambitious ;)
Just listening to the FIF1 podcast.
Andy Stevenson (Team Manager) seems to think it was no accident that Red Bull were smokin' oil - he said it wasn't the first time and that someone needs to figure out why they keep doing it...
i said that :)
although i may have insinuated they were cheating....
i think 5live are attending some codemasters launch. hoping for more crofty / ant vids :)
I kinda like that retweet button.
#nothingtoseehere
I know you did - that's why I mentioned it ;)
It's certainly the most obvious occurrence but I did not realise it had happened before. Perhaps Red Bull were being a bit sneaky then?
shh! no-ones noticed we've backtracked.
like i said, i don't think it was coincidental that it was the second redbull.
The BBC team seem to be trying to be positive (Jake's Blog): F1 has so much to offer this year
I wonder who was helping Hispania out.
At a guess, I would think it's the only established team with Cosworth power: Williams.
I'm starting to agree with you on this one - it's a bit too James Bond oil slick like!

A cool video from Heikki, in HD and everything
Morning folks. I just watched the GP yesterday so I can return to the real world with no fear of spoiling something for myself.
Question: Has anyone heard what Rob Smedley was worried about in terms of Massa's car? He was hanging out the pit wall and pointing at various things on the monitor toward the end of the race Sunday but no mention of it has been made yet that I've seen.
Jim,
After the race I listened to the Chequered Flag Podcast (http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/cff1/) where Rob said that he thought something had fallen off the car because the telemetry was reading a large drop off in front downforce. However Massa said he never felt anything so they left it at that...
afternoon folks,
Just a short stop in - how's everyone today
It is odd, though, that the telemetry records something, but the driver felt nothing. Usually, I think, it's the other way around.
Could it have been a sensor that fell off?
Ah, thanks. I was wondering about that last night after watching the GP but I couldn't find anything regarding the issue. I thought it was odd that neither DC/Eddie or Jake brought that up while they had Rob on camera after the race.
Very possible, I think.
or became disconnected. what do the use to measure downforce?
Barometers. They'll measure air pressure in certain points.
Mr C! You're famous!
http://www.stuartcodling.com/2010/03/overtaking-in-formula-1/
i was just reading and thinking... that right there is some awful sentence construction!
We aren't changing nothing!
that was intentional. the use of commas is suspect though.
And a misplaced full stop, but it's okay, we still love ya.
Malfunction seems to be a more likely cause. If it stopped working all together, he'd get a nil readout and it'd be recognized immediately.
I'm not sure if this is deception from Ferrari though, as Massa's driving over the last couple laps was rather erratic.
ah I wondered if it had worked.... game PING http://toomuchracing.com/2010/03/16/tmr-game-week-8/
Everyone! There's a Red Bull Podcast!!! http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Article/Download-the-Red-Bull-Racing-podcast-021242825740406?p=1242807156063&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
IS EXCITED!!!!!
National Wide or Sprint Cup?
hm?
wow. they are coming thick and fast this year. and i was worried teams were getting bored of the format.
interesting that red bull are using podbean to host their content: http://redbullf1.podbean.com/
Whyzat?
You put "Nascar Cup" but do you mean Nationwide or sprint cup?
oooh i used to use them, back in hte day
Ah. It is 'Sprint Cup' or 'Nationwide Series'.
Okey doke, I don't know nascar so know nothing about the differnece!
i kinda figured teams could afford their own bandwidth.
I see. Well they do have a resource restriction these days ;)
Oh okay. I'm just used to the top one being called Cup so I shortened it.
it is very odd
i can't hear the rbr podcast yet, who's hosting do we know?
I have no idea who he is. It's good though, quite short.
not holly / croftie / ted / maurice?
ooh no. some guy ive never heard before
maurice is back on CFF1 now...
for this race. croftie said goodbye to him during free practice and it sounded like he's out of f1 at the moment. it was a "good luck and hope you come back one day", kind of goodbye.
who hopefully will soon learn that when you interview someone, you have to speak into hte microphone as well as them
Oh dear.
presumably with no guardian gig, he has no pass. i hope not, i'll miss him if so.
Maybe he'll go freelance or go back to writing books?
Quick question:
I am checking my podcast subscriptions. Only these teams have podcasts, right?
Williams
Renault
Force India
Lotus
Red Bull
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/157768/1/hamilton_aggressive_massa_cost_me_chance_of_bahrain_victory.html
Looks like Lewis is crying again. Odd that he's complaining about an aggressive start, when just about every start in his rookie year he was shoving Alonso off the course into T1 whenever they were next to each other.
i think that's all of them.
Ditto.
Ferrari has occasional releases if you sign up for their email posts though.
oddly, watching it back, i thought it looked like a planned thing from both ferrari's. massa squeezed lewis, but alonso looked to do the same.
Massa definitely let Alonso through. I have no doubt about that. Team orders perhaps.
he did?
bob constanduros is on a podcast?
"F1 Trackside with Bob Constanduros - By Kangaroo TV"
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/f1-trackside-bob-constanduros/id360592557
This is the way it looked to me. Others may differ, but my main focus all race was the Ferrari's so I watched several segments over and over again.
although clearly the first comment is from some marketing person:
"Its great to have an inside track to all the news in F1. Being at every track will give this Podcast the edge and allow for exclusives not otherwise heard."
who comments like that, really?
i think i differ. i don't believe massa/rob would agree to that and i don't for one second think ferrari would start with team orders on race 1 in this non-schumi era.
I just listened to that podcast and Massa said he had a problem with his front wing toward the end of the race.
The funny thing is three of them are done by the same people. I think you and Mrs. C are missing a business opportunity. McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes still don't have a podcast? ;)
Also a good point, and perhaps quite true. I have a copy of the race that I've watched and re-watched and it looks like Massa didn't go into T1 with any intent on keeping Alonso behind him though.
Ferrari have video releases and other stuff they advertise via email.
don't we do enough? :)
i don't think we want to go up against USP to be honest. i can't imagine there's much money in it either.
From memory, Alonso was already alongside Massa and went down the outside of turn 1 knowing that come turn 2 he would have the inside line and Massa would have to concead the place.
Yes, he was. Perhaps Massa just got a bad start then.
he had a similar start to lewis. i think alonso just had an awesome start.
i love scarbs, but even this is pushing it...
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/bahrain-technical-review-on-racear-engineering/
:)
No way! I've seen their studio!
:)
Evening all
But Christine would have an excuse to interview Rob on a weekly basis
hey steven.
Did he? My apologies. I think I put Massa's 'problem' down as making an excuse for why he couldn't catch Alonso!
Rob told him to slow down to cool the engine. It was on the TV coverage
All of that was on his blog first!
There was also something said about his fuel consumption?
At least he is spreading it around
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/bahrain-technical-review-on-automoto365-com/
So if he is copying his articles elsewhere, so shall I!
Don't remember that. I know if you lean out the fuel/air mix you get hotter engine temps so they could be connected but this purely a wild guess
can someone explain to me how gpupdate can't afford to keep lee mckenzie, but can afford to sponor an f1 team?
http://www.hispaniaf1team.com/
I assume he is being paid for them or he would put them on his own blog as well
Boo to them for not keeping Lee. How many articles did she write for them anyway?
i saw one
Same here - that's all I saw ...
I bet there is no money in it.
Oooh, I like that site.
Hey all
That countdown looks weird.
The colours of the numbers and the background just don't work
That looks like a "We'll help you with your media relations if you advertise our website" sort of deals.
Kind of looks like the Jack Bauer clock from 24...
Didn't we reckon Jack was required to get them onto the grid....
I'm reading Paddock Life on AUTOSPORT and now I wanna know what this means!
One of the very first men to arrive at the briefing was Rubens Barrichello, and he made sure to hijack the official drivers' register – scribbling something amusing in Portuguese alongside Mark Webber's name that had better not get repeated here!
I wanna know what he puuuuuut!! :D
You should ask them on Twitter :)
I wanna know who translated the Portugese to know that it was funny, How many drivers speak Portugese?
why would they want a sponsor who offers no money?
Done :P
To get free services, as Dan said
Hello all, The four Brazilians speak Portuguese and the 3 Spaniards would probably be able to give a rough translation. Don't know about the rest though.
I didn't realise Dan also said the thing you were quoting :)
It happens a lot. A lot of deals that look like sponsors putting money in are anything but
I forgot about the Spaniards so that gives us more suspects
Evening folks,
Just in the door - rather tired. How is everyone?
Going mad. I need a checklist.
Evening btw.
:)
Not too bad although tired too. Have been training all day so that someone can cover my work until they recruit my replacement. 11 more working days to go :)
sweet
When do you fly out?
We do that a lot at the place I work at. In 2005, I made a deal with the Seattle Mariners that we would give them half-page ad space on every issue of our magazine for a box corporate suite for two games a season. Everyone loves it.
I leave here at 6.30am to get to Gatwick at 9.30 for the 11.40 flight. I don't trust the motorways or the airline so I'm allowing time..
And I'm sat here faffing with my blog instead of getting stuff ready :D
It's OK, so long as you've got your passport, your tickets and some form of payment card/euros, anything else is a bonus ;)
Aw man this has to get points from Christine!
Tweet from Jaime:
Tomorrow simulator again! It looks like i m living in milton keynes already? Why no one likes CAPS!!! I love theeeeeeeeem
Have the Williams, Lotus or Renault podcasts been released for this GP yet? I am having trouble finding them...
I've got those safe and sound. That and my sister's birthday present from me and cards from loads of people (her birthday is on the 29th).
mediatemple are frickin' useless. they've toshed something else up and are now suggesting that the only fix is to reset everybody's database passwords.
except.... they don't trust their users to change their own (it's a 2 second job), so are planning to automate the process. which means they'll reset our passwords when it suits them, and we'll probably be asleep, which means the site will die... until we wake up.
they really are thick as two short planks. this is my support request to them:
i understand that you're planning on automatically changing database passwords....
please
please
please
please
please
please
please
please DO NOT do this to our database and let us manage it ourselves.
you are going bugger everything up by doing so. please may we have an exemption?
thank you.
nicely put :D

"Kimi Raikkonen's third WRC rally didn't go well. Hitting a rock seven kilometres into stage one and bending the steering arm wasn't a good start. Then, on stage two, he dropped more than thirty minutes when his fuel pump stopped working. Things looked up after a couple of clear stages, and he seemed to be getting into it, only for his rally to end in spectacular fashion when he rolled his C4 WRC five times. Soon after the crash Kimi said his late braking was to blame. His car had run wide and hit a bank - sending him into the series of rolls. Maybe he did brake late, but on watching footage from the stage side camera I noticed that the rear spoiler was missing from the rear of the C4 BEFORE the crash. Would Kimi have got around the corner with the help of some rear downforce? Perhaps. But after Sebastien Ogier's spoiler parted company with his identical C4 WRC in Sweden I imagine Citroen engineers are working on some stronger bolts for Jordan."

Ooooo....
Love you Kathi....
Even happier....
That is interesting and not something I had heard about either of them. I don't think I have ever heard of a spoiler partng company with a rally car before unless it had been rolled or hit a tree or something
the mind really boggles.
I remember when Ogier's spoiler went missing. The guys from rally radio were quite astonished. It was quite funny to listen to :D
I remember the interview with Ogier just after he crossed the finish. It was something along the lines of:
Q: Did you know your rear spoiler is gone?
Ogier: (Shrugs head) What!?
:) woo for Oggi.
that is hopeless!
Evening everyone :)
hilarious. not sure we can afford anyone else bandwidth though. this may require some juggling.
I'm gonna use my flawless predicting skills to predict that we shall see various media tample related rants in the near future
*prepares article bigging up predicting correctness*
2nded.
:)
You need to have a sitdown with Raikkonen and let him know that he cant let the youtube fanboy's hero, Ken Block, do better than him anymore.
It's not like he did THAT Much better. He just took longer to crash.
What do you have against Block?
I have an allegedly unlimited bandwith provider at the moment with root access. I have not actually been using them in anger much though. Webfusion.
that's where aaserver.co.uk is btw.
is it proper root? eg, like a vps?
He didn't ...
Kimi got a 4th place in one stage and also a 7th...
Ken got nowhere near that....
ahh, don't worry, just looked and they install plesk. me no likey plesk, me likely barebones install.
the other issue is our 30gb+ storage requirements.
Just local razzing between fellow autocrossers. We have a bunch of X-Games fans in our regional associations and a bunch of F1 fans and we joke about it amongst ourselves.
is slicehost too expensive?
Unfortunately I'm not much help, I've always had my servers at either an ISP or a company that I worked for, or at home on a fast connection.
But I don't think I ever pushed traffic like you do.
ahh, ok.
I really hate that Raikonnen guy
;)
did you look at the dedicated? It's ubuntu and you get 250gb
Evening :)
Hiya Alison
sadly yeah. f1minute is on there and bursting at the seams.
£79.99 a month? that's four times our budget.
Hello
Evening - I am watching IndyCar highlights :)
looks like they don't have all the options there I mean under the bonnet it's all pipex owned. Mine is actually sold via 123.
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/dedicated-server-hosting/
yeah sorry on train. Try that other link. Still quite expensive though.
way to expensive though. sidepodcast has outgrown itself.
29.99
that one isn't a bare bones install, it comes with apache and we need nginx for live comment scaling.
surely you must be paying more than that a month now?
not for media temple? about £12 i think.
and you get 1TB or bandwidth included in that. guaranteed.
hence why we're trapped.
What are sidepodcasts monthly bandwidth requirements?
about 1-2TB, although we pay an overage when we pass 1TB.
adam cooper, on lotus tweeting: http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/03/16/mike-gascoyne-wins-formula-ones-first-twitter-gp-for-lotus-racing/
I have the night off. This is confusing to me.... :P
I'm assuming most of that is the podcasts, but do you compress text/* and application/* content types?
Don't know if this has been said here today already, but:
it's all podcasts. we use amazon cloud front to distribute images, css, javascript globally. too pricey to do that for audio and video though.
eh? the budget cap is coming back?
I'm well and truly confused too.
I got a good discount from Sky on a TV/ISP/phone package. But I just called BT and they want to charge me a fortune to leave because I'm terminating early (stoopid contract extension I took).
Which matches my Timo for world champ in 2010 prediction (I may have said he would do that in a Ferrari, but shh). I think Richard and I are onto something here.
ahh yes. nasty people are BT. though shall never leave.
I think it is supposed to be the "voluntary" cap that they're working to
I think that's what the teams all hope they'll get down to.
i can't remember who asked this yesterday, but - http://twitter.com/5LiveF1/status/10583381861
doesn't say why they don't read tweets out mind you.
kind of optimistic if they're going to be paying for tyres too.
It was me asking...
£48 surcharge for internet to July and £57 for phone to November. And this is supposed to be a free market. Extortion.
Now I have the hassle of trying to find out if I can keep my half-price Sky installation if I go TV-only... Add in that BT say I've been hitting over 50GB usage per month some months and Sky's limit is 40GB.
Reminds me of "Anchorman"... they might accidentally read out something that shouldn't go live ;)
Perhaps he thinks they are still working toward it. They say they are still underneath it.
You have a download cap?
ah-ha, does it help?
Many many providers do here. My contract only limits you to fair usage which is why I chose it. Depending on what else you want with it though, this can be very expensive.
BT's 'fair use' is apparently 100GB (I just found that out). Sky's is 40. I had no idea what I was using but what I didn't tell them is I'd be torrenting less if I had Sky telly, because I'd suddenly have access to a lot of the channels I'm thieving from.
Yes it does - thanks for the link ;)
Like you said though, they didn't say why...
In fairness to Sky their own network says 'true unlimited', but it doesn't extend down here so I'd be on some other thing
Ferrari will throw a fit though. Then again they throw a fit over just about anything.
OK Thanks. No limits for me here...
I get the impression that they'd throw a fit even if something helped them and only them.
The similarities between ISPs and the discussion of site hosting are eerily similar. Both markets are a complete mess it seems.
rearrange this to make sense
:)
I'm sure Luca is drawing up some document discussing how upset they are about their recent 1-2 finish.
Fair usage doesn't tend to be a set amount though. I think they just mean they'll investigate if it seems like suspicious usage to them. A lot of cheaper contracts have shockingly low download limits though. I've seen things offered that give you things like 5GB If you tried to stream anything, that's just be gone....
Well, it's EASY to find hosting for the podcasts.
It's just not affordable.
hosting market is fine. it's just we have insane demands and zero budget.
the isp market is a different animal.
excatly.
in part, that was why i was surprised that redbull aren't hosting their podcast. if an f1 can't afford it, how the hell can we?
I should make the point I'm a racing nerd so I'm only getting races here, not TV shows.
Ah understood
Forgetting the fact that podcast clients generally don't support bittorrent for the moment, would you be willing to put them up on a torrent?
Yeah but any kind of tv watching is very resource intensive. I watch all my tv online on demand. I have a tv (complete with VCR :P) but I really don't remember the last time I turned it on
True enough - I do use iPlayer.
V... C... R? what is that?
;)
Video Computer Radio?
Are you messing? Do you not have videos in Denmark?
I still have one that I use for a TV tuner on an old TV without a remote (and therefore tuning options)!
I actually have a bunch of VCR's lying around in my home office/hobby room. my son likes taking stuff apart :)
Video??? Didn't that go out with the Macarena?
heheh
Viscous cruddy rearend? Might work, it's the description for the bad differential in my roommates S13.
Yeah I am messing ;)
I used to sell and service the things too ;)
Mine is in a box somewhere. I never unpacked it when I moved in October.
I have a whole bookcase of VHS cassettes and I don't even know why!
our podcasts? they're all already torrented. there's a link on ever post.
fyi: http://sidepodcast.com/2008/08/10/f1-torrents-of-the-legal-kind/
I threw them all away a couple of months ago. I remember asking your advice on possible recycling. But no, I put mine into my car and down to the recycling centre a while ago now....
Media Temple do a sterling job of providing us with solid web hosting,
because you don't move house often enough.
Careful now - Bernie will have you for using "F1" in the title!!
hehehehe. ooooh dear.
Well I'll be dumping them in a month then!
Yeah I was about to mention that :P
huh. I'm actually supposed to read the posts associated with each podcast!?!?!
no comment ;)
I've only got a handful of 'bought' ones left, I'm too lazy to do anything with them. I've also got a box of F1 races I recorded to VHS and I'm too lazy to see what's on them to see if anyone wants them, which I doubt.
I might be stupid (very possible) but the link doesn't work for me.
the torrent link on the posts.
What do you mean there's no ice, you mean I gotta drink this coffee hot!?!?
Here's a shovel, enjoy the hole digging
Also I can't bear to dump a box full of that much plastic into the recycling centre.
oh wait. i haven't done this weeks debrief, one sec.
It's okay. I'm sure last week I asked what show notes were :P
:) :) :)
:D
Well what else are you going to do with them. If they're just sitting getting no use in your house, they're having as much impact there as they would be at the dump....
Have you seen how much fun cats have with VHS boxes?
But there might be something interesting on them.
give this one a go james: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/02/f1-digest-2010-season-preview-the-calendar/
i'll just play catch up on yesterdays.
Imagine how I feel - I've got every qualifying and GP from San Marino '96 through to the end of '07. Would stick on a disc if I had the time (or knowhow)
I think my uncle has them going back to 1985. With the Internet and BitTorrent these days, it's pretty much defunct!
Ah yes. See I'm sure I have no interest in anything my 12 year old self might have opted to record....
ah that works. thought it was just me :)
we have to upload the files to a different server for torrents. usually we remember at the time. from what i can tell though, people rarely use that method to download files.
from what i know about it (not much) when you say torrents i think either illegal music or tv, people are probably less likely to download something in torrent form when the mp3 button is less than an inch above
I have most of the 80s, all of the 90s and a fair chunk of the last decade
i just wanted to test was all. you can guarentee if you stop someone will ask for them ;)
tis true.
on a personal level i am really annoyed at the bad reputation torrenting has, because if it wasn't known for what it is, apple could likely include it in itunes, without record companies flipping out over it.
torrenting would save the likes of us a fortune. but it has a terrible rep. it's a brilliant technical specification :(
true story.
i think the last two debriefs are missing the files ;)
#confidential
I don't know that people know what to legitimately use it for.
137 is already there, 136 has 86 seconds remaining.
#shaddup
;)
downloading large media files.
:)
There are many perfectly legal uses, just like there were many legal uses for cassette tape.
we should start a campaign! torrentsarentalwaysbad.com?
there's a torrent feed too btw. and if you have miro player, it'll sync all podcasts via torrents and then share those podcasts for everyone else (when miro is open).
http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast/torrent
haha. you're going up against the riaa, who are clueless but very rich.
ah. probably not then :D
Ooh, a new domain name? :)
no!
:D
i like how talking about domains has acted like a headping for you Christine :D
It's almost like you don't want people to use torrents.
Why don't you just e-mail out the podcast files then you only have to pay once rather than for evey download?
other torrent clients are available :)
also true. but do they read rss feeds?
just not as good? ;)
ha!
good lord, that would depress me :)
I really wish iTunes did it :(.
I might have to figure out a way to get Transmission or osmething to automatically add it to iTunes when it's done downloading.
Better yet, put them on a cassette and post it to someone, then when they've listened to it, they can post it on to someone else.....
I think so. Mine does at least
Automator?
:)
:)
:)
I'm sure Automator could do it. Just have to figure out Automator.... or, really, get some time to do it ;)
:D i wondered how long it may take ;)
I'm pretty sure I can get this working, will have a go later on. Now that Transmission names partially downloaded files as .part it should be simple.
Finally got my Driver Consistency post for the Bahrain Grand Prix written!
http://f1numbers.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/driver-consistency-bahrain-2010/
Hope you like it - sorry if it is a bit ranty! ;)
Today Leigh did a good deed!!
:)
is it a secret?
The BBC hates me! I'm trying to download my favourite quiz show (pointless) and now I have a mystery error. It came up with a message saying "Error with download" and now it's deleted it.... I've never seen that before.
Hammond's new program just started on BBC 1. It's facinating stuff with lots of super slow mo. Just like a German GP but no cars
Ooh! Forgot that was on, cheers for the heads up
I watched it earlier. Really good. I know this doesn't help much
A mate asked me to give his friend a hand with a job interview - she had to do a fictional presentation on how to package Formula 1, so I rambled on bits of notes for about an hour
Did anyone else get an email from Formula1.com today telling you to sign up again? I did. A bit late guys :)
morning all. I am pleased to see Heikki doesnt go for fantasy films #sameperson. I am also sad no f1 folk are im town yet because i am going to my friends restaurant in st kilda tonight and it would be perfect for people spotting!
They obviously like me more than you. I got mine yesterday.
I got it. Really good timing. Suggests they didn't plan to bin everyone's password and it was just yet another screw up
I never got one but I signed up during the pre-race and I got an email straight away!
So did I. This is an e-mail I assume to everyone who had signed up before to tell them to sign up again even though we already have
I cannot tell you if I got a reminder email though because I used an old address that doesn't exist anymore!
They are letting Hammond fly a helicopter? Don't they know what happens when he gets the controls of exotic machinery?
Was it just me or did Rob look quite 'trim' on Sunday? {Comment #92}
Well, as race engineer he is responsible for overseeing Massa's chief mechanic, so if the chief mechanic and his subordinates are having to do an ultra-intense fitness regime to slice 0.1 seconds off their tyre-change times, I suppose being really fit and healthy yourself is a good example to pass on.
:)
This is pretty cool viewing! I would like to see them super slow down an F1 car going down a straight with the special cameras they use...
Hehehe I made it work now :D
I (heart) that programme. Pity I'm too stupid to go on it....
Shame you never see vortices spinning off the rear wings these days. I guess Bernie would want too much money for F1 to be shown
what's the name of it? I'll have to use that awesome technology we were talking about earlier that has a bad reputation for illegal things to download hammonds new show illegally.
I thought that was the qualification for most of the contestants.
Seems a little harsh. A lot of that was to reduce cost. {Comment #116}
A lot of it increased costs...
Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds
Richard Hammond;s Invisible Worlds I believe
Yeah but the only people that win any money know loooooads of things and stuff I've never heard of.
thanks
Also I don't know lots and lots of things about very obvious topics. I'm sure I'd really embarrass myself by not being able to name a single prime minister or something....
Or sparks.
I am sure you can't be as bad as you think.
I liked sparks but Max's stupid plank ruined that
should that be - stupid plank max ruined that?
No but I can guarantee I'd embarrass myself. If I was made to go, I'd take my dad. I'm sure he'd have amazing pointless knowledge!
or maybe Max Planck ruined it?
wow! even by joe's standards, this is a bit harsh on sutil:
Robert Kubica was a victim of Sutil’s impetuous ways on this occasion and so he too had to make up places. {Comment #119}
Huh? I thought Kubica started it, ably assisted by a combination of Mark Webber's oily smoke-spray and the general chaos of about five cars attempting to get round the corner at the same time...
that _IS_ every dad's job.
This is due to the fact that components are now expected to last more than one or two races. Before they'd be made used and discarded. Plus with fewer items made, the costs actually go up.
I was tempted to change it to stupid Max's plank but I guess the options are many and the meaning never changes
:D
Nothing can be too harsh on Sutil.
A constant worry.
Let me get this right. You think you are too stupid for Pointless but you want to go on Dragons Den and be interogated by them?
I love physics jokes
Hmmm maybe I didn't mean stupid. I'm not stupid. I can just envision my mind going blank and me not being able to name a primary colour or something.....
groan
Private Eye has a special section for people like this. :D
Nice.
I'm sorry, but these are the jokes. I can only work with what people give me.
Nothing can be too harsh on Sutil. {Comment #441}
Of course it can be - blaming him for someone else's actions would seem rather excessive - wouldn't it be better to judge him on his own actions?
Think of it this way. Each joke is in a box. It's either funny, or not funny. And you won't know which it is until you open up the box, but while it's in the box, it's both funny and not funny at the same time.
Or, you could just have me butcher quantum mechanics. That could be funny, too.
Schrodinger's joke
People like what? Who make fools of themselves on quiz shows? I'm also into watching Only Connect. I love it when the people get 3/4 through the show and haven't got anything right. I would definitely not fare better at this!
Is there a dead cat in the box too?
That was good fun to listen to. Good mixture of the downbeat voicemails and the upbeat ones.
At least it is better than Schroedinger's cat went walked into a bar. And it didn't
Cat in a box? that's one of the cutest things evar!
That is a great program. Have you tried the walls on the website. I do so badly with them
Oh erm no. Often they solve the wall and I still don't understand even after it's all explained :P
http://www.bbc.co.uk/onlyconnect/quiz/
Yes. It's called Dumb Britain, but only chronicles the very worst examples of quiz show idiocy. Example: "What is the Latin name for the Canadian province which is called 'New Scotland' in English?" Answer given was: "Johannesburg"
Then there are all the famous answers fromFamily Fortunes...
That's really quite freaky. I just solved my very first wall today.
I think I have only ever managed about three. There are at least two walss there that I can't make one line on. The really annoying one though was when I solved the wall and couldn't figure out the final connection.
Oooh I will have a try. I mainly like the round where they take the vowels out the words. I can do that one.
That's the one I beat them all at except when they have words that start with vowels. Same with Countdown I just can't do words that start with vowels
Oh dear. That's really really hard.
We've just done Wall 2 having failed on Wall 1
F1 Minute: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/16/the-great-shame-blame-game/
Are there no easy walls for people who suck?
Big Pic, I mean.
I found number three to be easy, but I think it's one of those things that it's only easy if you know it.
I really enjoyed that Richard Hammond program. Recommended viewing for the iPlayer.
Yeah definitely. I think when I've watched, sometimes the categories just leap out at you if it's something you know something about.
Keep going. You have to remember on the program they have three people doing it and often they fail. You can't expect to complete too many. Not unless you are competitive like Lou
It was facinating. Never heard of sprites before. How can you miss 20 mile high lightning?
I did wall 2. took me a while. but my brain finally kicked into gear :)
WOOOOOOO! I solved number 4 :D
I was a little irritated it didn't accept my connection for one of the categories though even though I clearly knew what connected them.
Well done.
1 out of 4 on your own is good.
We got 4 and 5 :)
I can see everyone getting into this game
I had that once two
two??
Oooh: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/03/getting-rid-of-aero-in-f1-the-counterargument/
Frank Dernie argues cutting aero would not improve overtaking, he says we need rock hard tyres and manual gearboxes...
Wasn't that tried with the grooved tyres though?
I read half the article and he is talking cobblers.
Exactly. That was Max's theory.
this makes me very happy.
*Continues to correct all the ones she transcribed as won*
Which wall are we playing?
I got 16 right.
No idea how.
:D
English is a foreign language to me to. Too many twos to remember
There were only 15 walls the last time I looked. 5 more to screw up
I nearly got 14. i htink it was 14. oteherwise i'm too impatient or i just don't know
And that really worked didn't it?
I think the T and H keys are the wrong way around
i said this!
On the subject of double diffusers making it difficult to follow, he said that early last year the Toyota drivers complained that the hardest car to follow was the Renault, which didn’t have a double diffuser.
i knew i didn't make it up. go me.
at this point i think those in charge will try anything.
i disagree. i'm with him on the triple diffuser, removing it will make no difference.
When were Toyota following Renaults? they were either at the front or right at the back. Renault were midfield.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/onlyconnect/quiz/ {Comment #460}
I hate this game. The way I make connections differs so much from the BBC's that there was only one set of connections between the first two walls that made sense to me after the answers were explained. So I don't think there's any point me looking at any other walls...
Yes it will.
i can't remember that far back! all i can remember was it was widely reported, but then hushed up and the ddd was a convenient excuse for the overtaking working group who chuffed it up big time.
hehe :D
i actually worked it out just now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkHbt4dYdyc
i don't believe it. or at least i don't believe it will make a jot of difference to enabling cars to pass.
I just tried wall 1 that Gavin did and I didn't get close to getting a line
Agreed - except the gearboxes bit
why, he raised some very good points. an bridgestone would go for rock hard tyres too.
only three cars last year had the ddd, was there significantly more overtaking at the first 5 races? nope.
God, the woman who does that wall quiz is really... um, direct!
The double diffuser was vastly overplayed last year just as McLaren's knee wing thing is this year. Brawn's car had a lot more advantages than just the diffuser but people fixated on it
Victoria Coren. She is a professional poker player
I've decided the game and I don't get on very well.
I love her. She's crueler about herself than she is about them I'd say :P
She's mean. She keeps telling me I am rubbish!
Because the wet is completely different with grip changing from lap to lap which is why some drivers are better than others - it's down to who can anticipate the conditions better. Also, in the wet, cars are not cornering at the speeds that they do in the dry, so their wake doesn't disrupt the guy behind allowing the follower to run closer through the corners and get a run on the next straight.
I believe that the cars at the front tend to be so well matched that having a tyre that is constant throughout the race doesn't introduce any significant variation in car performance, i.e. when cars that are quick at the start don't chew up their tyres and slow down at different stages and vice versa.
She's mean. She keeps telling me I am rubbish! {Comment #514}
She didn't tell me anything. I turned the sound off because the intro music annoyed me, and couldn't be bothered to switch the sound on again for feedback...
I just got wall 18. First two lines just hit me instantly
:D
Me too.
Wow it was easy!
I have argued for years they need to slow the cars down to get overtaking and that is what Dernie's wet argument proves.
Of course all he is doing is saying there is more overtaking in the wet and selecting one factor that happens in the wet and saying that is the answer. It doesn't matter what tyres you have on the car if a car loses downforces following the car in front and cannot get within 0.8 of a second of it
Night guys - Pat, enjoy your holiday ;)
I did 13 as well.
It all changes of course if mechanical grip exceeds aero grip, but we need a massive reduction in aero for that to happen (and a return to the early 70's!).
I did wall 19 as well. I am invincible. :D
Have a good break Pat
Is there an online pointless game?
See ya Gavin
To get good racing you need to change the circuits and you need to have cars that comply with a simple formula.
Absolutely minimum downforce. Mechanical grip much higher than aero grip. Power much higher than mechanical grip.
Cheers!
Thanks. I should finish packing. Instead I am emailing Sky.
Now you're talking... When are you putting your name forward for the new F1 Commissioner?
Boo. Anyways, since I'll forget, enjoy your trip!
Somehow I don't think I would get the job
Wall 20 beat me up. I am vincible again. :(
Why because you talk too much sense?
I passed the intelligence test so that meant I failed the interview process
big paris: http://www.paris-26-gigapixels.com/index-en.html
oh come on! clearly not trying to break the stereotype with that music!!!
all we need now is onions, a bike, stripped clothes and rene from allo allo
Thanks.
I'm telling them that actually I don't want their phone or internet after all. Luckily I'm within the 7-day 'cooling off' period. But I think I'll take the TV installation discount thanks very much.
So this explains the start time for Malaysia :D
you possibly, may be, almost certainly are, missing the most important bit.
Sounds like the music from Amelié
can someone come and relieve me? I really want a break. Need a cup of tea.
They tell you everything except where the camera was. I can't figure out where they photographed it from. Or why come to that.
Why? Because it's there.
There are so many better places they caould have shot from that would have given them a better photo and more of the interesting places
i can see inside jean's gaff. what more reason do you need?
he's even got a blue fia flag atop the building: http://twitpic.com/190npo
"the tower of Saint Sulpice"
http://blog.paris-26-gigapixels.com/en/?p=115
Thanks. Never heard of it but it looks like it is in Montparnasse I think
i found the "share" button: http://j.mp/90xFW6
That just shows the original page.
in all my browsers it points to place de la concorde?
+ 1
I get what you were doing now. You needed that picture when you went there
:)
is it used for anything else? because google street view doesn't have the FIA flag on top.
i've never seen the flag and i stood under it. assuming it's set back from the front of the building?
this is what street view shows: http://tinyurl.com/yj9c2lb (i assume thats right ;))
i see an fia flag?
blue with a white circle? (thats what i saw)
i see the google street view car passed when the f1 press were hanging outside the door. what are the chances?
ooh quite high i guess.
hehe i just noticed that as well :D
is should probably take back what i said about not seeing the flag: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/3090235419/in/set-72157610807173397/
oops.
"i've never seen the flag and i stood under it."

yikes!
australian autograph times updated and i am pleased to see ferrari before mclaren so hopefully the crowd will mostly disappear. Still need to see when they schedule michael for though. I am hanging out for a time for heikki too :D
Yea, they called out the riot squad in the square I was in because there were fights and such. I was trying to get out of there and unsuccessful.
*was unsuccessful
Eurgh. French policemen really scare me. Almost as much as Italian ones. Something about combining a jobsworth attitude with a firearm....
I really don't understand the link it has generated but it takes you to the right place eventually

The German track guards at the WRC terrified me. I was sitting there taking pics by the side of the road and all of a sudden the two guys in the above pic rolled up to me and was like, "ZOIG!" or something (I dunno, I dont speak German). So I said, "what's ZOIG, or perhaps where is ZOIG?". I moved a couple feet to the left and continued, "Is ZOIG here? Or perhaps ZOIG is over there?", pointing into the distance.
you're having issues....

Links hate me
Jim you seem to have been a ton of events all over the place. I vote you for a guest post please. :)
:)
it's a really nice building though. what's with the graffiti on vans?
seconded
Talking of blog posts I'd planned to do a quite write-up of Bahrain, and I was hoping to knock something up either for mine or here to tell you what it was like trying to follow a race without Twitter or comments, as a follow-up or counterpoint to what James wrote last year. I've run out of time for either.
I dunno what a guest post is. =(
I was stationed in Germany from Nov 04 to Feb/March of 07, so I made the best of my time there.
quick not quite
if you can loosely connect your travels to f1, write about them and send 'em to christine. she then publishes them :)
It was brand new and 4 of us who went to work there had the same flat on floors 2,3,4 and 5. There was a lot of grafitti then on the Metro etc but not on vans or streets
Ah, gotcha. Sure, I dont see why not =)
w00t! show pat how it's done :)
It is nice, looks great. A bit jealous of anyone who can go to a foreign country and live for a while, especially France, I like France. I couldn't do it. I went to Scotland for 9 months and that was foreign enough. ;)
Paris is covered in graffiti. I've only been near it once and I was on the Periphique (which is like the North Circular in London), graffitti everywhere.
I think I have pics of the Hockenheimring race museum outside the track that I can share to.
awesome!
:-)
Tell ya what, I've got my netbook, if the power lasts I'll write something on the plane and email it when I land (I've got to kill 2 hours in a small airport before my bus arrives). So far it eats power so no promises.
When I was in Paris the biggest problems was dog mess so lifting your head to look for grafitti meant you were likely to step in something nasty.
Fantastic, I didn't even know it had one
But they wash the streets every night....
no worries, you knows where we is :)
and if I install Latitude in a minute you'll know where I am.
badum tish
French dogs are very productive. Did you ever wonder why they clean the streets every night?
!!
Yea, it's not super huge and the track itself is relatively low key (most people get lost going to it the first time). They have two levels, lower level is cars and upper level is bikes. They also have a little shrine to Jim Clark on a nature walk along the back of Hockenheimring.
I probably won't because my phone likes to eat its battery too and I need it all day.
Thread jump?

lol... I always though Loeb's car looked silly with that GO!!!!!!! on it.
What made it more funny was between rally stages they have to drive on regular roads to the next stage. Well all of us wound up in traffic, including Loeb and a Stobart several car lengths back. The GO!!!!!! stuck in traffic was golden comedic value.
