Links are cool.
Thank you, Doctor. Who is that man? Why, it's Giggles! Doctor Giggles, that's Who. No, it's giggles, that's Who. Who is Giggles? Yes. Yes he is.
What a great way to kick off a Friday, right? You can even see how Doctor Giggles became the Doctor in this exclusive to DVD Daily extra of Giggles making that excellent contribution. Links are cool! Just look how cool these links are on this lovely Friday:
Paddock News
There's nothing wrong with using Hedgehogs - Peter Sauber yesterday had a bit of a defensive moment for his choice of Pedalo over Gutierrez at the Canadian Grand Prix as people are still well confused why the reserve driver wasn't... well, a reserve driver. Maybe Peter feared he'd become a reverser driver falling backwards down the grid. Seems experience was the name of the game and you can't get much more experienced than Pedro's 36 returns to competitive F1 racing.
That's quite the graduation you've got there - You can't get much cooler than this for a placement whilst being a student. Matt Cruishank here is doing a year placement with Red Bull and may even get a place with the team following it, I assume he has to impress the team with an inane task and then go into a boardroom where one of them will get fired /siralan. I mean, it is very cool though and a sign of what the F1 in Schools program is indeed doing for the sport in reaching out to the younger folk with their hippety hop.
Watch out Bernie, he still crashes into people defending positions - Of all people to come out and defend Lewis the Ecclescakes of the Bernie variety has told people to lay off Lewis for encouraging overtaking and doing what the fans want. There's no doubt Lewis is constantly wanting to win races and overtake wherever he can but probably be alright if he didn't go calling his colleagues stupid and being like a kid sometimes. But, interesting words from the walking mop.

Maybe Christoper Biggins can unlock Biggin Hill - We have a new guest post contributer - welcome Daniel Shires! Huzzah! And what a fab way to kick off your Sidepodcast guest posting ways with an interesting collection of thoughts regarding the restrictions of the F1 archive down at Biggin Hill that Bernie seems adamant not to release to the world. There's some excellent points and comparisons to how other companies make the most of their archieve footage so give it a read, especially if you've seen Senna and enjoyed the footage included in it.
So many pixels I may turn into a pixie - Man, this is pretty damn cool. Have you ever wanted to see Sevilla in about five billion megapixels or something? OK, so it's 111 Gigapixels, and giga is like even more mega than mega, it's double mega and 11 is triple 11 kind of so that must mean this whole thing is absolutely triple mega awesome. That makes sense to me. But check out the incredible detail you can see on this panoramic view of Sevilla as well as how cool 111 gigapixels are!
I believe Williams started in the exact same way - if like me you're an absolute sucker for management games like Sim City or Rollercoaster Tycoon and are a fan of iOS games, you may know of the brilliant Game Dev Story on iOS and Android. The guys behind that fantastic little title, Kairosoft, have brought out totally out of nowhere Grand Prix Story! Awesome!! It's only currently on Android right now and there's a free Lite version available to give it a try but yay for a simple but addictive racing management game!
Itsy Bitsy Links
Time to chuck together some little bits to end Friday on, because links are cool. Doctor Giggles says so.
Do you fancy trying to win a trip to the next FOTA Fan Forum to frolic in the fun of the forum? Fantastic! Send in a question to the email in Joe's post and you might be there pointing and laughing at James Allen. As for me, I've been really getting back into Smashing Pumpkins lately especially Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness which is just a sublimely made album and probably their best in my humble opinion. What music are you guys digging at the moment? Feel free to share in the comments. The BBC have an article just trying to work out just what on earth Bohemian Rhapsody has going that makes it so love, my thinking is that it's just so awesome that the human mind can't comprehend what makes it so magical. Finally, what if numbers actually had character? Totally digging the bumblebee for 0 and 5's Mr Duck but not so sure about the leek for 4!
That'll do me for another week I think. Have a lovely day and hopefully the weather will cheer up a bit and we'll all have a fantabulous weekend too. Good luck to Kat who is awaiting the arrival of Baby Giggles to the world at any moment too! If the above video is anything to go by, he's in for a fun ride. I'll see you guys in the comments.

Woah... Time travel... for the time travel post...
heheheheeh
Anyone who says you don't know what day it is should simply refer to this moment...
Wait a minute, I thought Groundhog Day was 2nd February?
I'm not having another annoying day at work again.
heheh nice video
i love it... had to watch in secret as christine's editing the joe show. class!

oddly when you press the button, i can smell that dry ice smell.
that's not right at all.
Someone has been left home alone, haven't they?
haha
he he :)
It's such a distinctive smell isn't it? I knew the smell before I pressed the button for the first time. This was nowhere near enough to make it really bad... but I immediately cast my mind back to a school play where the dry ice made me choke and I flubbed a line. I hadn't thought of it for years until I was about to press the button and then I almost didn't.
But I have to suffer for my "art".
I showed the video to Katherine earlier and she looked at her tummy and said, "that's your father, the loonie".
weeeeeeeird. same.
but i can't just "think" of it. i have to play the bit of video when you're smoking out your kitchen. v.strange.
"A GOOGLE homepage doodle posted last week honouring guitar legend Les Paul has cost the world $268 million, despite only setting the internet giant back a mere $15,000, Extreme Tech says.
Extreme Tech says the amount covers 10.7 million man-hours in lost productivity, assuming the average Google user earns $25 an hour."
A fair proportion of those 10.7 million were probably me :D
hehe. the pacman homepage did they same.
that one didn't suck me into its web as i'm sooo rubbish at pacman i don't even bother :)
If they ever do a Galaga one, and I see it, I will be in SO MUCH TROUBLE.
Morning,
On a train, going to training on the other side of the country. I can has wifi though!
if the weather stays the way it has been for last few days Mr Alguersuari will need a boat rather than F1 car tomorrow unless Red Bull will cover the road in the style of Mercedes pop up grid tents :-) the Montreal rain of last Sunday was just a mild shower compared to the deluge here

Morning folks,
How are we all today?
I had no idea things like these exist:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUgHl1f-tCQ&feature=player_embedded#at=198
could be better, but it is Friday afternoon, so that alone is good news
Awwww... :)
good news - my Spa F3 trip is back on!!
:D
...albeit in a slightly awkward manner.
do tell :)
London (Eurostar) to Brussels (Train) --> Verviers (Bus) --> Francorchamps
...then...
Francorchamps (Bus) --> Verviers (Train) --> Liege (somehow find hotel)
Ended up having to settle for a hotel 50 km away from the circuit.
ouch! You shoulda hit up Beurb :)
What's Beurb?
Beurb, the legendary host of our Spa chalet.
Oh right. I couldn't find a place to stay close to the circuit that was vaguely reasonable price. Everywhere seemed to be only booking for five days - it's the 24 hour race y'see, so the weekend starts a few days before the race itself
booking minimums are always a pain.
Aye but I'm going to be there to cover the F3 races for the site, so I don't really need to be there for the duration.
I'll be hanging around for the 24 Hours, but just as a spectator this time.

How long before Kolles buys them out?
almost ready for Friday night out wondering where will the Red Bull F1 entourage show up ...
I don't think he will. Kolles is more of a "holding" manager - he'll keep them up and afloat (by any means necessary) until someone picks them up.
Kolles probably will not but he may get the team to stage when it will be interesting for some investors. I mean they are obviously overachieving now, they are one mix weather race away from 10th money earning place in the championship ...
Not forgetting they actually brought some fairly significant updates to Montreal too
but realistically they can afford to bring updates like that once in many races (2-3 times a year) while Lotus is now doing it on for almost every race. But for Lotus being a second second and a half faster may mean nothing unless they convert it in points or some 11th 12th places, otherwise one more lucky result in high attrition race may cause them the 10th in constructors ...
... may cost them ...
I think Hispania are more concerned with qualifying with no problems and staying ahead of Virgin right now.
Absolutely, but looking at how Williams, Toro Rosso and Force India are doing, that may not be that far away.
To finish 1st, first you have to finish... or alternately 10th...
they are not far away but still far. look at the practice sessions or qualis - you always have either Force, or STR or Williams posting some top 10 time, so their car can find such pace. Lotus can't yet, they do not seem to able yet to find that extra speed. Plus the lack of KERS ...
True... a lack of KERS. Did they ever put on a working off-throttle blown diffuser? Dodgy power steering...
I think Lotus did but so did HRT, surprisingly. that's why BBC commentators were talking about the ban probably not happening now that all teams have it. FIA still going ahead though. so those who were extracting less from it may benefit more from the ban ...
Virgin don't have it. Neither do Sauber I believe. Toro Rosso I'm unsure about.
@Lukeh - my hometown is Biggin Hill - shall I pop up to the airport and have a word with Bernie for you?
By the way, on the off chance anyone here is venturing to Brands this weekend, do say hello.
:)
Wow... apparently 1.2 out of 1.9 million people missed out on Olympic tickets in the UK. (Evening Standard)

hm, the last lap climbs to P1 do not happen that often in F1 it seems :-)
http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2011/6/12192.html
they broke their embargo :D
Mr @Pearcesport is about to release all kinds of stats. I'm excited. Mmm stats.
Indeed they did
Hooray for Rafa and Roger being on opposite sides of the Wimbledon draw.
Isner/Mahut are playing again, what are the chances! (about 1 in 16,000, but still, what are the chances!)
As long as they aren't on Court 18 again.
Is it 1 in 16,000?
;)
they probably will, Wimbledon scheduling is possibly the dumbest of all the slams.
the draw gods must have read the Wimbledon drinking game since mentions of Isner/Mahut are a big part of it :)
Ms Dulko isn't playing doubles with Flavia, Flavis is instead playing with Schiavone.
So many doubles teams are playing with non-regular partners who just happen to be from the same nation as them. Olympics practice anyone? :)
Hello all!!
i may get to see it! (if i pluck up courage to get up early to go get grounds tickets :) )
doooo it!
For a second, I thought that said Milka Duno...
:o
i fear if get tickets next week i'll end up going 2 or 3 times if i'm not careful!
nothing wrong with that :)
there is when it costs me £15 to get there :(
if you can't spend money doing the things you love, why bother having it :)
oh goodness you make a good argument. i suppose i can't go the second week (goodwood week and all) so i could maybe go twice next week.... or maybe just once. i hope it doesn't rain!
least tennis is more affordable than F1 to go to! Amy if i go broke because i'm going to every tennis event i can i blame you!
I seriously considered heading over to Eastbourne this week.. :)
make the most of it, at least you have lots of tennis events!
well... you can always come over for a summer ;)
Air Asia Australia are running another Grand Prix competition for Australian residents, the prize is not as good as the Korean one but it's still good:
flights to Singapore from Darwin (via Bali)
2x Premium Walkabout tickets for the Singapore GP.
This makes me feel very pleased to have gotten paddock passes and flights from Melbourne :)
But if any Aussie Sidepodcasters are going to enter, I have spare likes available!
I think it's cheaper to just go to the Australian Open to be honest ;)
but but.. you could do queens (which is epic), Eastbourne, and then Wimbledon! :)
that'd be the dream but I also have zero annual leave spare for the next 2 years :)
2014 it is then! :)
at this stage I'm intending that to be US Open year and planning ahead to 2015 is just silly ;)
hehe okay well i'll remind you next year then ;)
I can moderate you lot, you know ;)
:)
hehe #sorrychristine :)
ohh Christine, something i hope you'll be pleased with me for..i finally decided to rent Back to the Future from itunes as i've not seen it and am watching heaps of films at the moment. It says it's going to take a day to download (i hate my internet) but i'm finally gonna watch the film you're always talking about!
Okay, since we're talking about spending money, perhaps you lot can help me decide on how to spend mine.
(first the expensive option) I was hoping to come to the UK from the US next summer for Goodwood and Silverstone. However, my sister who was hoping to come with me, has bowed out for family reason.
(next the more reasonable option) Or I could go to Austin for the US Grand Prix. Spend a lot less money, and still have a lot of fun.
Thoughts?
Awesome! I hope you like it. Don't tell me if you don't :)
Please be aware, that after you see BTTF I, you're only going to want to see 2 and 3.
hehe! okay, it better be worth a one day wait :) (honestly it's like i'm still using dial up..)
hehe okay! i'll start downloading them soon otherwise it'll be years till i get to see them.
Would she be able to come with you another year?
Most likely, yes. She wants to do this with me, especially since we were discussing coming over on one of the Cunard ships, and flying back after.
Ooooohhh.... that reminds me. I need to sort out Goodwood revival tockets
is going to the Austin GP next year and then heading over to the UK for Goodwood/Silverstone in 2013 (don't kill me Christine) an option?
Not unless I hit a lottery sometime between now and next summer.
From a totally selfish point of view, more on-the-ground reporters at faraway events are awesome. But the trip with your sister sounds worth waiting for.
ahh... then i suppose the question is how long can you wait to see F1 in the UK. Goodwood is a wonderful festival to go to, i'll be heading back for my 4th year this year, but Goodwood will always be there. Plus Silverstone wont be going away any time soon either...F1's return of a US GP may be something you'd rather not miss?
That's a good point.
going to the first race at a new track has a certain awesomeness about it.
Yeah, I really started to get an urge to do it last week when someone else (forget who) was talking about driving down from Colorado to it. Since my sister bowed out of our trip next summer, I think that is what I will do, the Austin trip.
Maybe Lou should watch them in reverse order... That would be like proper time travel... actually this is a stupid idea.
Hehehehe.
Awesome. I forget now, what is the date?
oh and hi. :)
I just have a second, but wanted to say 'yay' for your decision.
17 June according to the schedule released last week.
Oh, and hi to you, and everyone else I forgot to say hi to when I just rolled into a conversation.
I like it when people just roll in, I do it all the time :)
Thanks.
I've just been showing up and getting into it lately myself.
And dashing off again, just as quickly, apparently, as I have to go now.
See ya'll later.
That's why I stopped with the Hi, etc. ;)
Hasta luego.
Hi!
wohoo! just saved £34 on my goodwood tickets! think this confirms i'll definitely try make it to wimbledon next week :)
and yay for the Austin gp! :)
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sergio-prez-feels-ready-for-the-european-grand-prix
A third of #olympictickets were bought by people in London, a third by people in home counties. Only a third by rest of UK
What are the home counties? Is that like 'near London but not actual London'?
Yup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_counties
oh England, you crazy.
Correct again :)
I've just read Lukeh was dissapointed... What happened with your Olympic tickets?
So glad we kicked those crazy people out 240 years ago! :)
240 seems a little high. The First Fleet landed in Australia in 1787, that's only 224 years ago. I'm pretty sure it took a couple years after that to start transporting.
i don't think he applied for Olympic tickets (not that he told me anyways!) think it was a joke with everyone who got their olympic ticket application rejection emails today (like me! :( )
Wow, it looks like penal transportation started in 1788. Just a year after landing. That's impressive speed.
it's actually closer to 230, I'm an American :)
The first fleet was the first lot of transporting. Captains cooks voyage of discovery was in 1770
Thanks, my Aussie history is a bit rough in places. For some reason I can remember 1787 easy though.
The only reason i know it was 1770 is because there is a place in queensland called the "town of 1770". where he stopped to repair his ship after a storm
I hope the Australian resellers put out a list like this before our second chance sale, it'd prevent a lot of panic if people knew beforehand if they could get what they want.
Lots of beach volleyball still available Mr Bassano :)
I didn't think Bassano would fancy men's beach volleyball that much to be honest.
theres still some womans.
Still..?
*shocked*
Right folks,
I'm off - should be back later at some stage
:)
afternoon.
On the train home. Had a good day today. We have to remember Charlie.
Hi RubberGoat :)
And bye Leigh!
I think I'll bring my old blog back to life again... Advice?
Have you tried a shot of adrenelin and a defibrillator? :)
DO IT. Everyone needs a blog. Just write when you want, don't force a schedule on yourself.
Useful items! I think I've got something similar in my room... Let me find it.
I'll try. My problem is that I am too impatient and I fed up of blogging quite quickly, althought I have never tried to take it easy.
Yes. It's so much more efficient than the way we used to have to do it. Waiting for the lightning storm to come by can be so irritating. And don't get me started on how hard it is to find good Igors these days.
Yay for blogging!
Yes, I know you like it a bit ;)
Love this bumper sticker on Lewis Hamilton's car. Re-tweeted by Midweek Motorsports this morning.
http://jalo.ps/lYCdZx
ALthough I am suspicious. I'm thinking if a fan can get close enough to take a picture of that, a previous person could get close enough to slap that bumper sticker on the car.
It's also not a very flash car for an F1 driver. The ones we saw at Spa were a bit more posh, and were driven under security into the paddock itself.
I don't know anything about Canadian number plating, but why would be be in Quebec with Ontario plates?
I dunno about Canada, but in the states rental cars or cars that are lent out can have plates from almost any state.
According to this, that stick was at the car before the reader saw it, or did the reader stick it there?
Sorry, but I don't understand the article :(
Not too uncommon. If it's some sort of hire/rental that they had available. Those get moved around a lot, across state and provincial boundaries. But, if it was a deler that is cooperating with the company, I'd think they'd have dealer plates on the car.
ahh, down here its very very very rare to see other states plates around. I probably see one or two a week out of all the cars I see.
your states are a lot bigger than ours, and Canada's provinces are somewhere in between in size
fair enough :)
Wow, just out of curiousity, I compared.
Texas, largest of the 48 continental states - 696,241 km2
New South Wales - 809,444 km2
WA is the really big one!
Victoria is little, and by far the best ;)
Catalonia, where I live, is 31895 km2
thats about the same as the province I come from in NZ. Good size I reckon :)
Saved? Saved how? I haven't booked mine yet as I was still thinking about which days to do...
We don't really have states unless you count the nations within a nation.. England is 130,395 km2
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

I have just watched the first hour of SENNA, tomorrow more.
Great documentary :)
One question: Why can't I find the new F1 Debrief in iTunes or in sidepodcast.com?
Have you had any problems while recording it?
Only that we haven't started it yet :)
Oops, that was Christine, not Mr C. I've borrowed his computer.
Ok. We'll be waiting :)
And if you can't record it, then you can make a super-debrief for the second spanish race [Barcelona is better (subliminal and non objective advertising)]
We will be doing one. Just that Mr C only watched the race on Wednesday, we spent yesterday talking to Joe and today editing Joe.
I thought he had watched the Grand Prix live... At least he won't have to spend two hours sitting in front of the TV seeing everything but motorsport.
no, i watched the two hours of nothing, then i gave up. on wednesday i watched the actual race :)
I did the same... I gave up (well, I didn't give up, my family forced me to change the channel because they didn't want to have dinner "watching cars doing laps and laps"
I recorded the race and watched it on Monday :)
that the best way to watch i think. i was in quite a bad mood after f1 wasted my sunday evening.
Same happened to me. At least I wasn't angry because I didn' have class on that Monday :)
Hey gang
Hey Lukeh :) How are you?
Not too bad, bit of a rollercoaster of a day but all is well now :)
How is everyone?
Thats how I spend most Saturday nights (if you replace cars with bikes). Nowt wrong with it.
lovin' the daily!
yay! good old doctor giggles :)
To be honest, quite bored...
The good news are that I am going to buy my new reflex camera on the following Tuesday :D
reflex camera?
Yes, I don't know if that's the correct way to talk about those cameras... Here in Barcelona we call those (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iszxS5-H_i4/Ta9ADqTUQDI/AAAAAAAACwI/duwLQdtkdz8/s1600/Nikon+D7000+1.jpg) cameras like 'Reflex'

I love how Michael Eavis is properly tremayning over it. It;s your own event and you don't even want one of the headliners there!
I always got the impression he kept pretty tight controls over who got to be there, but he let one through!

I have absolutely no idea who the wombles are. Should I look them up?
Oh yes.

I'm done.
Kill me.
KILL ME NOW.
You can't hate them, they pick up litter.
Remember, you're a womble.
I can still hate them, I'm a complex individual.
So are they.
I must admit when I was young I wondered who would win in a fight, the Wombles or the Moomins.
Ooh, good question. I think the Wombles would be more resourceful.
The Moomins do tend to just wander around needlessly but they do have a lovely intro so it's a tough choice.
another exmaple of my childhood battle wierd thoughts - Fireman Sam vs Postman Pat. One I still can't decide.
Another great one. I'm gonna go for Fireman Sam on this one, he is a fireman after all. Although Postman Pat appears to have a helicopter now, which might give him an advantage.
Postman Pat has a helicopter?
I could understand another cat to go with jess. I could understand his red van being replaced with a Ford Sierra. But a helicopter I simply refuse to acknowledge!
Evening folks
that is a total waste of taxpayer money.
It's taken a while, but after only seeing the race properly last night, my Canadian GP post will finally be up later tonight

Fireman Sam has a helicopter too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqegkP92xcI&feature=related
Gah, they ruin everything.

there are.... no words.
gone all General Zod with the laser eyes
im charging up my lazers :)
#sorryLukeh
I even went downstairs to tell mum. This is big news after all!
I feel I should have prepared you more for the shock :)
Postmen just don't fly helicopters! Whatever next, aardvarks that can talk?!
next you'll tell us that fruit wear pyjamas
I wonder if they'll come in pairs?
Or maybe, pears would be more appropriate...
My nephew is a huuuuuuge Fireman Sam fan and he doesn't give a fig about Postman Pat.
His favourite thing to do with Fireman Sam is to tell everyone who they are going to be, then act out the scene that he wants us all to do, then we have to sit down and pretend like we are watching the scene that we have just acted out on the television and we have to all laugh and gasp at the action. So I say Fireman Sam.
The man who led most of the Canadian GP is FINALLY on Twitter!
...that's right, Bernd Maylander!
https://twitter.com/#!/BerndMaylander
I'm just impressed he can get out of bed so quickly and into his job within seconds. Beyond impressive turnaround time there.
EP-IC !
:D
Lukeh... I forgot to mention last night a) thank you for including the video in the daily... and b) your comment about Smashing Pumkins actually made me go and listen to Soma from Siamese Dream. I really like both of those albums... Tough choice...
Siamese Dream is a really good album too, can see where the toughness would come from there. But Mellon Collie just tips it for me :)
I think this could be our relative ages at work... I don't think I could pick between them though...
For a random tune tangentally related to this... Melissa Auf der Maur of Hole then of Smashing Pumpkins and then of her own solo career. Hardly anyone ever seemed to hear her solo stuff... I always quite liked this track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y80iZOs-4gw
I know I'm just talking to myself here... but that song sometimes makes me think of a female led Foo Fighters (depending on the Foo Fighters era of course).
Oooooh nice! Although I agree with the top comment, it definitely has a bit of a QOTSA feel going :)
Not a bad thing at all though! I'm not a big fan of the Arctic Monkeys but their new song has the exact same thing for me, has such a mean Queens of the Stone Age vibe to it and it's ridiculously addictive. I know they've worked with Homme before though.
Sorry Alex - bedroom jamming on iTunes at the mo
;)
QOTSA yes... that's probably it... around the Ghrol time...
Well he did the drums on No one Knows, you can get away with it :)
I do like a bit of Alex Turner as it goes... In all his guises... but haven't had a chance to check the new one out.
indeedy do.
There's a song that I really really really like the cover of... The Divine Comedy's...
Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gox6zrcoQI
I'm really tempted to give the new album a listen based on that single alone which is terrible really as you go into an album expecting it to sound like the single then :)
I just love the really heavy, sinister bassline the single has. Feels like a nice departure from what I think of when I think of the Arctic Monkeys, their normal sound or what I perceive to be their normal sound I've never really been fond of in all honesty.
Did you like Last of the Shaddow Puppets? The sound was quite different... But one I really liked.
Never heard their stuff but I know of them. I'll have to give them a listen to see :)
Heheheheh. I have no idea how that manages to work so well!
I think it's much more up your street... (but the same bloke as Arctic's so quite impressive)... Give this one a go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGV8xCkpXjE
Goodness me. :o
I have been really missing out. Totally my thing...must have more!
that's what I'm here for :)
But now bed!

Hi Steven
Talking of music, went to see Senna movie today, (which blew me away, amazing) and theres a song thats played when he's celebrating his third title, and I've spent hours since then looking for that song because it fitted the movie perfectly at that point, and I also want it.
Found it on youtube

Modric is doing a mini-Berbatov .
But in positive news... ah there's none.
No need no catch up then
Just been reading this - great movies from minor characters. Thought it was a bit brilliant :D
That is a great idea. Would make a great Friday Fun item. You could do it for books, TV, music etc
The Transformers one had me in a fit of laughter. Poor truck.
