i'll just be waiting for our apology then.

Don't they know people work shifts?

I'll end up shopping in there less if I can't get there by 11:30

They've got the store staffed to pack the shelves, seems silly to me

I think so. At least you have Kathi so your skype problems are not as bad as theirs

they skyped him? he works for a radio station, could then not get an idsn line hooked up?

  • Steven Roy16/06/2010 at 23:51

they skyped him? he works for a radio station, could then not get an idsn line hooked up?

No. They met Ant at Silverstone and pre-recorded everything. They were skyping their man in America. Most of the show was Ant though

  • me16/06/2010 at 23:52

ahh right, yeah they usually do that. i haven't listened for months but they used to lose him two or three times an hour.

I''ve been watching stuff, about to head to bed.

anyone would think anthony davidson was never on the radio.

It really helped that he has been, he was able to perfectly describe his emotions and the situation from his point of view. And he was quite emotional.. But yeah as Steven said, bit of a love-in from all sides. Hindaugh did back down from his rant but didn't actually apologise.

  • amy via alistair17/06/2010 at 00:18

    mmm decisions

    Oh really? That's annoying.

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 00:19

    they read the comments too?

    They sent me an email

I think I registered with them a few months ago for some reason, probably to get prices.

Have booked a handset for the weekend now, £12.50 a day is probably cheaper than the 3G data I could use and I have big doubts over coverage for MiFi purposes over the weekend

Having ALL the data has spoiled us on a GP weekend :)

  • Pat W17/06/2010 at 00:19

i'll just be waiting for our apology then.

This is Dex, you'll be waiting a while.

One of us will have to point out the 3million tweet at some point...

  • Pat W17/06/2010 at 00:19

    Anyway, bed, see you Thursday..

there is no question that you need one. forget iphone/ipad/mifi in spa.

the only question is who are you sharing with.

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 00:21

On a positive note, I ordered my iPhone 4 this morning

Not having my wallet at work yesterday has pushed back delivery by a week

I hear it's now another 2 weeks again, 600,000 sold yesterday

For a device no one has seen in the flesh!

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 00:22

the only question is who are you sharing with.

I think Pat & I have one each so we can negotiate for the highest bidders :)

My Friday has turned into the longest day at work ever [to be]

I am due to be on a late shift until 10:30 but all the management staff in our hangar have a meeting scheduled from 9-3pm

Effectively, it's a 3-lined whip [mandatory] and to beat the traffic I'll have to aim for an 8am arrival

    :( :(

  • amy via alistair17/06/2010 at 00:50

i am using alistair! he is neither phone nor computer :) this free internet thing will really help keep my roaming costs down overseas because otherwise i would be mobile commenting all day. I CAN CAPS IF I WANT TO

  • me17/06/2010 at 00:51

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 00:52

i think twitter has been delisted due to being unfixable.

something about downtime being a charm i believe :)

  • amy via alistair17/06/2010 at 01:17

its gone bck to normal now. very odd. the twitter thing could be cool if i was reading something interesting but instead i went for the only book i have that mentions roger

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 01:17

They should have bought a few thousand Mac Mini servers last week before the price increase

    That might've helped

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 01:25

    good morning.

  • guille230617/06/2010 at 01:43

    a) because it will never happen without a deadline.

    my way of thinking... :P

also: a deadline is not a deadline if it's not pushed to the limit

  • guille230617/06/2010 at 01:45

    morning guille

    You're enjoying your kindle, I see :)

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 01:45

    my way of thinking... :P

also: a deadline is not a deadline if it's not pushed to the limit

Deadline needs to be renamed to something like 'quite ill but recoverable-line' with another stage of 'this really is your last chance' added to the equation

    It's lost it's meaning

  • guille230617/06/2010 at 01:47

    It's lost it's meaning

    :D

Yes. deadlines for conferences are so predictable: 'There won't be an extension'... ''OK, due to the overwhelming number of people applying the last few days we're extending the deadline for one week'

    It never fails ;-)

  • Bassano17/06/2010 at 01:49

    It never fails ;-)

They should be named, best excuse wins the extension, lines

i want to go to roland garros and to louis vuitton on champs elysees, the are my two must do things. and i suppose i cant go to paris without going to the eiffel tower and arc de triomphe :D

sounds good. You'll have plenty of time to do it. Roland Garros, I'm sorry to say it to you, is just the museum. They didn't allowed me to get into the court (I wasn't very insistent, though). Louis Vuitton maybe can take you longer :P . The Arc de Triophe is very close to the latter, so that's two for the price of one.

The Eiffel Tower, well, it can take you AGES (up to 1 or 2 hours just for the ticket line). I would recommend you to go and check (she's beautiful from the ground anyway). If there is a lot of people and you still fancy seeing Paris from high above, you can go the Tour Montparnasse (the ugliest and tallest building in the city). Not the same that the Eiffel, but much faster.

And you MUST go (and enter) Notre Dame, and walk around the Louvre area

  • me17/06/2010 at 02:29

we need more canadas and less valencias so that mr c wont mind giving money to bernie

that is true. it just doesn't seem like a good way to go about living life to me.

"i hate what you did to f1, so here's £300 for your trouble"

We all want more enjoyment out of F1, how about that?

    that i can agree with.

we're still not close to coming back though. not if you look at in terms of "hours spent creating f1 content". we must be up on the 10hrs we meant to cut back to, but not by much.

  • Leigh O'Gorman17/06/2010 at 02:55

    hey leigh, what's new?

    two things sir:

    1) loved ant's interview on radio le mans - really, really brilliant stuff

    2) still reeling from what steps just shy of admitting that the end of nascar races are fixed to a degree - always kind of knew, but it's never been admitted as such

    shocked....

as an fyi for amy. i think the guilt trip:

"i'm coming all the way from the other side of the world, the least you can do is walk in the gate"

would serve you much better than anything to do with racing ;)

it's been suggested since at least 2006, right? i remember people questioning the tv directors for not finding debris on camera, because there was none to find.

i don't find it shocking. fans want close finishes and they're regularly delivering close finishes. where's the issue?

this is why i love karun

On the train back home after long day...girl across the aisle is in full little britain mode shouting on phone "yea but, no but, yea but"

i know it's been suggested and even i have said it loads, but i always thought that racing would rise above it.

this essentially confirms that nascar is motor racing's equivalent of the circus

I don't even work shifts anymore. Or I sort of do but all between the hours of 6 and 8 which seems reasonable. Sadly I do have a whole 13 hours of joy waiting for me today.

i need to check to be sure, but it's in the rules that if the pitlane is blocked in any way, then the safety car is an option

i found this post about blog comments insightful: http://brianericford.tumblr.com/post/705640507/comments

there's been much discussion on the net today about the benefit of having comments on a blog. we talked about this a while back when joe threatened to turn them off, and i'm noticing more and more bloggers disable that option.

i can't pick a quote, the whole post is worth reading and i can't say that i'm fussed about the argument either. some blogs have comments and some don't. fair enough.

i can see more people closing down or limiting comments in the future though.

  • Alianora La Canta17/06/2010 at 13:14

    You haven't fixed twitter yet?

    How far down 'the list' is that? {Comment #66}

I believe the fix for that would involve making a whole new way to communicate live with each other. Which probably means LCLT 3 or something...

  • Alianora La Canta17/06/2010 at 13:32

that is true. it just doesn't seem like a good way to go about living life to me.

"i hate what you did to f1, so here's £300 for your trouble"

    a better way must be to walk up to the fence, peer inside, and then go spend your money elsewhere. {Comment #142}

Or find a way of getting in free ;)

  • Alianora La Canta17/06/2010 at 13:40

    i don't find it shocking. fans want close finishes and they're regularly delivering close finishes. where's the issue? {Comment #196}

Fans want competitive racing. Fixing finishes is not racing, even if it's manipulation caused by the governance rather than teams. That's why a lot of people would consider it shocking if it wasn't for the fact that they'd suspected it for ages anyway.

  • Alianora La Canta17/06/2010 at 13:50

I dont understand this UK system of buying a cake when it is your birthday?

    Surely the company should buy you a cake (or as we do here... beer)? {Comment #302}

It ensures that birthday celebrants bring something they like and doesn't cost the company anything. UK organisations hate spending money in my experience.

My old workplace had a system whereby people were liable to bring things in for their co-workers at random, ranging from multi-bags of crisps to punnets of plums, so everyone's used to beinging stuff in anyway and unless they reminded you, you'd forget that this time it was because it was their birthday, as opposed to celebrating handing in their coursework, coming back from Greece or getting a new pet chameleon (all of these happened while I was there, resulting in crisps, boiled sweets and flapjacks respectively).

  • Pat W17/06/2010 at 14:00

Please may I have a job where I don't have to deal with people..?

Just be careful the chameleon isn't disguised as the flapjack.

As in, you are perfectly happy doing something and we try and convince you that you shouldn't be.

If you guys want to come to Spa and not see the race, it's fine by me. I am only going on this trip to meet everybody and hang out with you. I reckon I could see the race better if I stayed at home ;)

you may wanna work on that subtlety!

  • Christine17/06/2010 at 14:34

The problem you have, Amy, is that our pros and cons list looks like this:

    Pros

    Meet Amy and the Sidepodgang

    Cons

Purchase an extortionately priced ticket for an event we're not that fussed about going to, all the while lining Bernie's pockets with money, thus giving him no incentive to change anything, and weakening our own arguments against the sport being dull, dull, dull.

We could have the pro without the con. Everybody wins.

  • Amy17/06/2010 at 14:35

you may wanna work on that subtlety!

Jacques Villeneuve is back in NASCAR, he's in the Nationwide race at Road America this week, first time the series visits.

Meanwhile the Cup series is at Sonoma for a road course race which can be 'interesting', Montoya should do well and Mattias Ekstrom of DTM (and RoC) has been roped in by Red Bull.

I do all my top-up shopping in Waitrose as I work right next door. It doesn't cost any more for me than going out of my way to Tesco for it, probably because I don't buy junk in there....

Errr... you don't get much 'junk' in Waitrose but generally I am generally tempted whenever I shop personally to buy lots of naughty but delicious stuff that I should not look at...

Way before that. The first proper coverage we had was 1978. That was the first time every race was covered but was generally late night highlights. Full coverage came some time after that but was before well before1989. Maybe 1979 or 1980?

When I went to Sao Paulo it wasn't too bad but it very much depends on exactly where you are in Brazil (it's a huge country) as well as the time of year....

Are you going to Interlagos this year?...

    Evening!

Ooooh you're the plane man. Do you think I'd be allowed to carry on a parasol? It's pretty flimsy and not in any way sharp. It's too big for a handbag though clearly.

Can't you wrap it up and put it in the wierd shapped bagage bit?

Sounds quite reasonable, should aqueeze into the overheads bins fine

    I'd chance it

  • Alison17/06/2010 at 22:54

Can't you wrap it up and put it in the wierd shapped bagage bit?

What weird bit? I'm sure I can find a tube to put it in, that's not a problem. I just don't have a very long suitcase and I don't think it would fit in or I'd happily check it.

Theres like a non-bag bagage part of the airport, like when you'd take ski's

There's the chance that they could pull it at the gate and it'll go in the bulk cargo [small, non-containerised portain at the rear of the a/c]

  • Alison17/06/2010 at 22:55

I might ask if I can check it in inside the tube. Emirates give anyone free extra allowance for golf clubs, I'd be annoyed if they charged for a flipping umbrella.

So long as it doesn't contain more than 100ml of liquid you'll be fine*

There's no comparison for me. Glasses are better than nothing at all, but I'm borderline legal to drive with them and certainly wouldn't try at the moment.

With the lenses I have almost perfect binocular vision.

Yeah see I have perfect vision in one eye but I'm SHOCKINGLY long sighted in the other. To the extent that I can't see anything in focus longer than the length of my arm. I got too old before anyone really noticed this though, my brain refuses to co-operate with corrective lenses, I just feel nauseous.

You probably need to persevere, eventually your brain will adjust. For example, my left eye is more affected by Keratoconus than my right, but the left contact lens works better. This means when wearing glasses I have to let my right eye dominate, when wearing lenses, the left takes over.

Years ago there was a TV programme that got someone to wear special glasses that flipped her vision upside-down. It took about a week for her brain to start making sense of what it saw and she was able to do complex things like ride a bike quite happily.

  • Steven Roy17/06/2010 at 23:19

Yeah I'd need to find a time when I didn't have to drive to do it though as, conversely, I'm pretty sure it would make me pretty unsafe. I guess when it gets down to it, I don't see the benefit. I can see perfectly well and I don't have to pay for glasses or contact lenses.

Yes :) Fun and it is... ...was... a Thursday (whether the rollover-hoop panda counts as a baby panda is negotiable).
