Hello my pretties, how are we on this fine Friday? I can't tell you how happy I am that it is Friday, as I am getting to the end of two rather tough weeks in the office. Nothing but a weekend full of Franck ahead of me, as well. But more of that in a moment. First up, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- I wrote a post yesterday, picking up on some of the most recent comments from Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo. We know already that this man isn't shy about saying what he thinks, or simply trying to stir up trouble, but this time, it's all about the backmarkers. We've had loads of great comments pondering whether the cars at the back of the grid in 2010 are just too slow or not. The general consensus is that everyone has to start somewhere, but why not let us know what you think?
- I saw a tweet yesterday highlighting some great pages on Viva F1 detailing all you need to know about each of the circuits on the calendar. Some great statistics and pictures to fill you in. Have a look at Europe as that is the next stop on our global tour this season.
- The latest victim of F1.com's Secret Life series is Nico Rosberg. The interviews delve into things the drivers might rather you didn't know, although Nico says he hasn't cried at a film since he was seven years old. I find that hard to believe. Even I have cried at a film since then and I have a heart of stone.
That should do it for now. As ever, we'll be discussing the World Cup today in the dedicated thread. They will also be selecting the draw for Wimbledon today, so we'll find out who all our favourite tennis players will face in the coming weeks. Franck is racing this weekend in the Superleague Formula. It looks as though it might be another weekend of sport for us! So, I will see you in the very busy comments.
It has been a new day for half an hour and no-one noticed.
hello new day.
i've never been someone's "pretty" before. you?
Hello new daily - and Steven and Christine :)
I'm just shy :P
i've always said that about you.
love that viva technical guide.
Someone, Jon? Was looking for Truth in 24 earlier. Some kind soul put it on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moDj4fR4suM
i temporarily misplaced it while around Amy, Pamela and Paul
the most famous car race... in the world :)
will watch later.
There's a Twitter feed that does nothing but tweet panda pictures - @panda. Christine might like to follow or list it for easy access to monochrome cuteness ;)
Early meeting tomorrow, night all
"It's all quite simple, in the end!"
Yeah,... uh, no it isn't :)
Even more sport :)
I must do my 'start times' blog post, I forgot to do it last week. Will do some time after work.. Right now I'm off for a sleep (and it feels really early) so see you at some stage during the day.
Oh and if anyone wants to do the TMR game, I only have 1 entry so far...
morning all
Good morning, Amy!
Looks like the silly season has started.
Kimi to Renault?
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/160716/1/renault_eyeing_raikkonen_to_replace_petrov_in_2011.html
how are we all today? i see there is new joe coming. i'm sure they never used to be this frequent!
Apparently you get a mention in it
hehe. they used to be every friday before a race didn't they?
during flyaways they're less frequent because international timezone are a pain in the backside.
indeed.
you don't have to transcribe everything amy. it's meant to be fun!
it is fun!
phew :)
i enjoy it because i take in a lot more. curse my short listening attention span.
hi everyone,
newly (ish) arrived and about to watch:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs066.ash2/36641_405881152019_585302019_4171092_3746209_n.jpg
break time! i can finally have chips!
Just watching Truth in 24 on youtube now that I have found it. 6 min 47 into part 6 I spotted someone who looks a lot like Joe. Although why Joe would be at a TK fan meeting that is mostly in Danish is beyond me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T0KMi6IK4c&NR=1
good night/morning...
afternoon guille
I knew there was some part of the day missing ;-)
it's a bit quiet here...
indeed, i am actually doing work and i think everyone else is asleep
I should be sleeping, but I'm at work helping a friend in a long day. We may start playing hopscotch soon to keep us awake... :P
Morning.
Woke up today and one of my eyes is red raw and very painful :(
What did you think? I saw from the comments that you guys were watching it.
I had to torrent it to see it - which I had no problem with because it's available for free in the US anyway...
It's a mystery to me why it's not more widely available - I can think of plenty of Danes who would love to see it. It's a brilliant doco because it views the 2008 race inside out - it's the story of how the team won Le Mans. The emotion, the decisions, the glory, the defeat ... it's all there and I don't think you'll ever see such an in depth and revealing documentary about a race team like this...
Morning all.
a hoy hoy
some how I totally missed that Di Grassi is in South Africa, but reading back through his twitter I realise just how infrequently he posts in English.
I want the TV people to find him in the crowd :D
How were your chips?
salt and vinegary, but not amazing. Australian chips are not very good.
Boo.
lies!!!!!
I don't know what you do to your potatoes but they are WEIRD.
Pie Floater. That is all.
I miss The Works :(
I demand more information. National honour is at stake!
It's all this new fangled healthy frying oil that I blame
When you think about it, potatoes in general are weird...
Paul!!!!! Pamela!!!
Help! I can't be on the Internet for a few minutes and Australian fast food is being disparaged!
Blind taste test between Australian chips and New Zealand chips is needed. I can't put my finger on what is different but every other Kiwi I know here says the same thing.
Whatever that is, it does not sound appealing.
You also don't have Chicken McCheese burgers. It's enough to make a girl want to go home.
it doesn't look appealing either.
It's not - it's a pie served in pea soup!
according to Wikipedia, Nigel Mansell is a "high profile fan" of the pie floater. #f1link
Good lord.
Today I learned you can still buy Snickers ice creams in Wales. Is this purely a Wales thing, or is London going to come through for me when I arrive? Because I might cry if I am so close to them and can't have one.
Can't you make one? Chocolate Ice Cream with peanuts, chocolate chunks, chocolate and caramel sauce?
You can get them anywhere, I think.
I officially love the UK.
that sounds like too much effort :D
I went to Tivoli a couple of weeks ago, and I had a coldstone ice cream, where a lad with truck driver arms mixes it by hand for you - yummy!
Morning.
Co-op is even doing a 2 boxes for £3 offer
do you still have Picnic icecreams? I liked them even more than the Snickers ones :D
I haven't seen them before.. There are Mars ones which are quite nice too.
there is nothing wrong with good potato !
I loved the Crunchie ones too. Chocolate bars seem to translate to icecream really well.
Crunchie is very appropriate for Friday.
Ooh I haven't tried those, I'm not sure I've seen many about.
There's a Smarties one too.
Did I say that? No, I just said that they're weird!
I am looking on a certain supermarkets online ordering and there are definitely Crunchie ice cream bars and Snickers ice cream bars.
Also Fudge and Galaxy, Maltesers and Mars.
Caramac!?
I am officially renaming Euro Trip 2010 to Extreme Calorie Trip 2010.
Lion Bars but no Picnic, I'm afraid.
What you want is for someone who works for a supermarket dealing in lots of frozen goods to bring lots of samples..
One of the most sickly chocolate bars ever
i have no idea what a Lion bar is. But this is a good excuse to find out.
I just Googled to show you, and found a blog called Chocablog!
http://www.chocablog.com/reviews/lion-bar/
Chocolate, caramel, wafer, crispy goodness.
Oooooh.
Lion Bar is not a sophisticated chocolate bar, and has no pretentions of being so.
Heheh.
it looks just like a picnic, just with no nuts :D
all this talk of unhealthy food seems like a good time to ping my chip blog that I spent far too long thinking about and not enough time writing :D
http://daydreamingoutloud.com/2010/06/18/unhealthy-love/
Oh btw you have to have French/Belgian pastries while there, with coffee. Even if it is similar to what we at least have here, it just feels right when you are in the place it came from.
I have Creme Brulee as top of my Eat In France list :D
Oh there are so many flavours here, you will become a chip/crisp.
I'm stuck. I can't decide how much travel money to buy.
I think the key will be to go for the small snack sized bags, not the family sized ones.
Live blog of the Wimbledon draw, EEEK
http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/articles/2010-06-18/201006181276850942412.html
Yay!
it's also on Wimbledon Radio but for some reason there is someone talking over the top of the draw. STOP TALKING WEIRD LADY
good, they have stopped talking.
Wow! You can remember all the flavours you've tried? The number of flavours we have is on a whole new scale I'd say. I really couldn't even think about trying to work them all out.
well, you may be right there, weird potato can still be a good potato :-)
I phoned the parasol people but they're not in :( :(
Maybe Amy would buy one for me and post it to Nick. The Australian people seem much better organised.
ooh, I certainly can't remember all of them, theres been a lot. But the UK will be a whole new world. And I only have two days there! Bassano had better start stocking up the car.
You should maybe bring an extra suitcase. Then you could spend the rest of the year sat at home trying all the new flavours :)
Definitely
This Wimbledon live blog does not refresh automatically. What is this strange F5 button?
Is there anything that's just awful that you'd recommend avoiding? I might need to create a shortlist before I arrive.
its silly, they need a visual representation of it because they talked over the top of the placement of the top 32 seeds so I don't even know which of Novak and Andy are in Roger and Rafas sides.
I just hate cheese and onion. But you surely must have had those before so....
It depends on your taste, I suppose. Most of the fancy crisps and Walkers crisps are fairly harmless, even if you don't end up liking them. The only thing that is actually evil is these weird peanut puff things. It makes me gag just thinking about them.
I do quite like those but they're not my first choice :D
10.17 am: Murray by the way is in Nadal's half of the draw, Djokovic in Federer's. Federer - Davydenko is a potential quarter, as are Djokovic - Roddic, Verdasco Murray and Soderling - Nadal.
Gah, that's all I wanted to know!
Wimbledon needs a Factbyte Factbox.
Left a comment..
also, I have come up with an elaborate 2-pronged sleeping plan for the next week. I hope it doesn't kill me.
Go on.
Wimbledon starts each night at 9pm. I am working 7.30-3.30 all week. If I get up at 7 each morning then stay awake til 3am or so I might die, so I am planning a post work nap, say between 5 and 9, then a post tennis sleep between 3 and 7. It might not work but I don't think I have a choice :D
Makes sense. You can also sleep when it's all rained off :)
they have a roof now!
Only on one court.
true, but thats where most of the people I want to watch will be after about the second round. Last year they only used it once, no? That roof was a rain jinx.
I think you're right. And if I recall correctly, Murray moaned about the conditions under the roof. He would have moaned if he'd been rained off too, mind you.
good ol Whinedy Murray :D
I just played with an iPad ... lovely!
who is very, very scottish at the moment
http://andymurrayometer.com/
Want one?
Wimbledon: Into the women's, the following are seeded fourth-round match-ups: Serena - Sharapova, Na Li - Radwanska, Wozniacki - Azarenka, Pennetta - Stosur, Clijsters - Petrova, Wickmayer - Jankovic, Schiavone - Bartoli and finally Peer - Venus.
Seems like all the good players (read: ones I have heard of) are staying quite far apart till the later stages in the womens.
you've heard of the seeds then :D
I have heard of less women than I have men too, because I don't watch many women's matches. Too screechy.
oh yes, mute is key :D
speaking of womens tennis, I think I should wear my Ivanovic Wimbledon dress for the next 2 weeks, to get into the zone.
I think so!
Sharapova has stolen my frills
http://www.gototennisblog.com/2010/06/17/maria-sharapovas-2010-wimbledon-outfit/
so my Monza ticket location is 8a, whatever it means
woo! location buddies :D
OK, now I know what it means :-)
World Cup post ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/18/2010-fifa-world-cup-day-8/
i was just going out of the door.... and i met the postman...
Look what has finally come!!! :D
http://twitpic.com/1xrv27
(i'll rotate the pic later. too excited)
eeekkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
no lanyard though :( i'll just have to use my brawn one :D
and now i must go for my guitar lesson... byee!
everybody has them but meeeeeee
Pamela has two lanyards :D
also this answers the 'are we sitting together' question and the answer is YES! YAY!
looks like in sitting next to her btw.. :) xx
Oh yes! completely replaces a netbook!
Great! Now it becomes more real. :)
Who is it that always gets complaints? She sounds worse than a Vuvuzela!
Hehehe the people are nice. I knew it. Although I guess it's now too late to add anyone else in. As I presume the seats around you are filled with strangers
Shriekapova ;)
this is true.
Perhaps... always worth asking though.
I spoke to parasol lady :D I think I need to talk Nick into collecting it for me though. Woop woop. Having things shipped specifically from Australia is fun :)
whats wrong with a normal umbrella? :D
You get all hot underneath. Plus these are beautiful. I'm very paranoid about melting.
Ohh, how exciting that you got your tix too! I'm relieved that they managed to sit us together. You are welcome to use the additional bright orange lanyard I got. Aren't the tickets nice & shiny? haha :D
wow!
plus it's christine-proof. i just dropped and dented mine, still working :)
you may do that, if you have time.
Um. No.
rats. coulda made some nice widgets.
I would if I could guarantee I'd be home to watch a whole match, but they start at weird times and sometimes go on to the next day and stuff.
makes f1 sound straightforward.
the trick is to sleep in two shifts ;)
Google’s HTML PacMan is good fun. The ghosts are faster on the straights but you can leave them behind in the corners. Seems oddly familiar…
hehe!
http://twitter.com/redbullf1spy/status/16457361097
They're quite far behind over at Red Bull, aren't they?
gaaahhhhh
Doing a long and tediously boring task for someone. Driving me mad.
To top it off, someone keeps coming in and asking "why are you doing it that way, isn't there a report the system can produce, surely there's another way". I don't even have access to the system that would produce it..
just wait till next week... "that nintendo wii is so much fun".
Mr C, what time can we expect Joe? :D
You sir, are banned!
hi everyone
:)
Hi Leigh
Don't drop an iPad and don't complain about chips :)
I wrote a whole blog about chips and didn't slag off Australian chips once :D
I have neither an iPad nor a bag of chips, but I've got plenty of soul!!
I'm a modern day James Brown only without the controversy
Today I learned you can still buy Snickers ice creams in Wales. Is this purely a Wales thing, or is London going to come through for me when I arrive? {Comment #54}
The corner shop nearest my grandma's house sells them, along with a supermarket in Sheffield, if that's any help.
Oh, and there's a place in Sheffield where you can get a Snickers milkshake...
Oh my.....
it's quite a big dent too. luckily only cosmetic damage.
I don't think you should be allowed it. Maybe I should look after it. You know, just for safekeeping.
it'll be late. i finally had enough of french electrical hum. so spent last night figuring out how to remove the buzzing. will start the edit tonight, so saturday afternoon is my guess.
Ooh, the Wimbledon draws are up: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/scores/draws/ms/index.html
it's for the best.
Mr C sir,
As far as I can ascertain, IndyCar from Iowa starts at around 6/7pm on Sunday evening
wow.
thanking you.
Hooray! I like the sound of being able to go to sleep tonight, safe in the knowledge I'm not missing out ♥
Did you see the article about the guy who put a MiFi inside? Plenty of room!
I have already printed them to put on my desk at work. It sends a DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT to those who consider changing the channel :D
Like the article on how to remove vuvuzela from soccer footage?
inspired by that actually, yeah. i learnt some stuff :)
Is it Mathemetatical? Because if it is, you should totally blog it for us!
Yay for learning!
Just got my Spa Tickets - because they are bronze, it's just three bits of card ;)
I think someone is going to get cranky soon
:D
Ooooh-err..
Do we get to tell him what we want, so he can decide what he wants (usually already decided) and do something different?
If it was me, I would digitise all the highlights programmes that BBC have made, and release selected ones for each race...
I sat out on the edge of a maize field for lunch, now I'm convinced I've got things crawling over me again..
May I interest anyone in the TMRG this week? Indy on an oval and Nascar on a road course.. http://toomuchracing.com/2010/06/16/tmr-game-week-21/
Thanks for the reminder there, would have forgot..
No problem. I have to remember to enter it myself when I get home.
...and not any old oval either. IndyCar at Iowa which is only 0.87 of a mile long
But fast.
Pressdog's home track, hopefully he'll be tweeting and blogging quite a lot this weekend.
WOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the Spa tickets in my hands!!! :D :D :D :D :D
unfortunately being Fathers Day, I might miss it
Niice :)
Hehe you too ;)
:P
yeah. I was also expecting something more high tech than a three pieces of card...
i predict the next gen ipad will be "the thinnest ipad ever" :)
Mr C, are you ignoring my emails again?
I may miss the Iowa race too as I'll be on a plane to London, but will catch it later on
And of course, the tickets are still 'being prepared' according to Spa's page.. ;-)
Good way to get me in a good mood for work after a very long night and short sleep. See you in the afternoon/night!
why isn't there a poll? then we can all see what was preferred.
am busy... commenting.
my life just gets worse :D
I thought as much :)
See you
yours must be in the mail, surely. and the lanyard is bright red :P
(now I'm truly gone)
Hello all, Noble F1 just tweeted this, it's an advert & it's staged but I like the interaction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zf40OzfwOo
i can't hear it, i want to hear it :(
looks brilliant.
If you imagine each of them saying "mate" every few seconds you're pretty much there ;)
theres also a lot of 'oooh, put it back, put it back!'
this needs to be a post on it's own :)
anyone with audio have 5 mins to write a break out?
I can give it a go, shall I e-mail to you or Christine? (NB No guarantee on quality)
cheers janna. [email protected] and i'll put it up right away.
It's not a bad viral to be honest - I like the nod to Gary Paffett at the end
:)
Nice
http://brawnsbeards.com/index.html
e-mail sent, please amend as required
Friday afternoon video for everyone - happy Friday!!
http://www.break.com/index/worst-karaoke-session-ever.html
awesome janna ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/18/button-and-hamilton-working-together-to-achieve-results/
i only extended the intro by a few words so that the excerpt had a bit of context on the homepage. otherwise, perfect. many, many thanks janna.
*hugs*
No problem, it reads much better now :)
From the great Ted K
ok, now i (heart) trulli and kovi: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84569
Gascoyne: Jarno, when he was told, said, 'No, I don't want Heikki to feel that I am being favoured, please feel free to give [the new chassi] to Heikki". So I went up to Heikki and told him. Then he said, 'No, Jarno is struggling, give it to him!'
I think I want to buy the Wimbledon streaming pass. It's only $20 for the whole tournament and then I can choose which of the 6 courts I want to watch. I had it last year and complained about the buffering the whole time but I'm crossing my fingers it will be better this year :D
I think they both deserve points for that ;)
Comment fail :(
awwwwwwwwww!!!!
Hello!!! :)
Hello lou, how's things?
i fix :)
very good thank you :) just chilling before our concert tonight, Em is playing her guitar piece for me. :)
Thank you. Should really have read Janna fail as that would be accurate :)
Oooh, live streaming?
oh.. no live streaming.. i don't know how to do that..
boo! are you playing too?
Can someone make my internet faster? I am trying to be geeky and download a new OS for the eee to try out :D
nooo. Em is much better than i am. She's doing a lovely piece with our teacher and 2 singers :) it's very pretty.
I'm doing the photography and video so.. well... the hope is i will take a good enough pic so it can go in the paper! :)
lou, have you seen this about Getty Images and Flickr? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8744817.stm Thought of you when I saw it.
ooh, i hadn't.
yes! i love the idea they do that :)
oh i just recorded em playing a bit.. will post it online in a sec :)
We are holding a special members' event on 12 July at the McLaren Technology Centre, Woking to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the membership programme. We are inviting you, as a Tier 2 member of our programme, to apply.
This is the third email I've got in a row for an event to be held at the MTC. I need to move to England :(
move to england!! or maybe i can pretend to be Amy... I'm not very good at an Ausi accent.
although Em rightly says she's stand a better chance at being you... loving Heikki and all...
I don't have an Ausi accent *gasp*
heheh it kind of sucks to be honest, their May competition prize was an MTC tour, their June competition prize is a photo with Jenson and Lewis at the MTC and now they're having a July MTC event. Way to alienate the foreigners :(
ooopps... i mean Kiwi accent.
#sorryamy
if it's any consolation.. i do prefer the kiwi accent...
i need to be a mclaren member.....
have I ever told you you're a wise wise woman? :D
;)
I'd recommend joining before Spa just on the off chance of a paddock tour. It's the only reason I joined in 2008 just before I went to my first race and it's paid off big time.
will get to meet Jenson?....
you've got more of a chance as a member than you would as a non member :D
my poor english is due to em... she doesn't seem to like me typing..
but it's so expensive....
also.. if i do buy membership. will you come on the tour with me so i don't get lonely? :)
I guess that makes sense as a Jenson fan rather than a team fan, for me as a team fan all the merchandise you get is worth the same price as the membership anyway so all the competitions and paddock tours to me are just a bonus on top of that. But if you're not interested in McLaren hats and shirts it's a lot of money :D
if you insist ;)
i'll see what my bank account looks like at the end of next month...
so.. just cause i want to show off how awesome Em's playing is, i recorded her. so here is a little video of her practicing.
She's doing the cords for the piece.. (songbird by eva cassidy for those who know it).
http://drop.io/emilyguitar/asset/dscn4770-avi
She really is awesome, hope the concert goes well.
Good afternoon everyone!
Indycar Update:
There are major thunderstorms in the Iowa area with rain predicted on raceday
when I start work in 5 hours I'm going to regret being awake now :D
ooh dear.. :)
jake humphrey dances to glee.
just sayin'
as much as I like to do a full shift on Saturday for the $$$ I might come home early and zzz :D
what? and oh no :(
Hello again. My boss sucks. That is all. :)
he was dancing to it on radio 1. no pictures sadly.
he was on radio one?! and i missed it? :(
Dancing is a biiit much.
that's ace. hope it goes well.
will pass on wishes :) she's upstairs atm getting ready, i love that as a photographer i just need to wear black and whit and not bother dressing up :D
mills: "jake, were you dancing to glee just then?"
jake: "i was. don't tell couthard or jordan though"
i missed it! he was on scott mills and i missed it! ah bad times. will catch the podcast :)
and now we must go... catch you all later enjoy the england game!
Evening all
Have fun Lou
Have fun
Hey Steven
Hi RG
How did Serbia beat Germany?
A card happy and Serbia favoured referee. And somehow forgetting how to take a penalty.
Hi-diddly-ho sidepodderinos
yaaay bedtime. See you all in a few hours :)
Hi Lukeh.
Night Amy
Hey Lukeh
Bye Amy
You're going to be so tired. :)
Bye. Hi Lukeh and Steven and anyone else I missed

Excellent
This is rather well written..

If anyone is interested in such things, there is a MotoGP app which I guess is for phones and the like. They just followed me on Twitter for some crazy reason, though their twitter page doesn't include a link to the actual app...

pressdog put leigh's question to marco: http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2010/06/marco-andretti-the-twitterview.html
Oh and it is the British GP at Silverstone this weekend. Could be fun.
Hello all!
Hi Joe
Many of us are in the other thread getting ready for the England game.
Hiiiii :)
I've had a very stressful afternoon mainly revolving around some definitely not-frozen "frozen goods"
No-one here. We are all at the football
Hmmm I might get knifed if I express my opinion on the England football team.... :P
Warning: Is no less stressful on the football thread
They have been mainly rubbish so you would not be alone
Also I think my computer's about to die a permanent death :S It's not behaving at all.
Computers are a pain
Oooooh after joking about sending myself a compliment card the other day, someone rang my head office with a genuine compliment!! :D
Did you disguise your voice?
It was an old man. So errrrm yes very well :P
:D
The Task Manager is not supposed to freeze is it? :( :( :(
Nope
It brought itself back to life. I don't really know what to do with this hunk of junk though. I already tried restarting it. The Task Manager freezing is a step too far for me.... It's not even 18 months old. I don't get how computers break so quickly considering the price of them.
These 'helpful' developers like to include programs that install themselves and start themselves when the computer boots, so they are constantly running even if you only use the thing once every 3 months. It really slows everything down.
It shouldn't. Sounds like you have something using a lot of resource. Anything obvious in the processes list using lots of cpu or memory
I was trying to go through and close down all the processes when it became non co-operative...
...and we're back!!
Meanwhile, @pressdog did a Twitterview with Marco Andretti
http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2010/06/marco-andretti-the-twitterview.html
Off to cheer myself up by turning off the telly & listening to The Archers whilst washing up. Catch you all later
cheers ms. j.
i must edit joe.
You have phobias for a reason. Don't try to cure them.
Remember wild animals are not cute and cuddly

Back to dailyville.
Are you writing the daily today, Lukeh?
Yes indeed :)
Fabulous :)
I am so dreading work tomorrow :( I really really need a holiday :(
At least no-one is going to ask you to paint your face
This is true. Hopefully they're all too ashamed to bring it up again.
I just know I'm going to be in trouble. I hate this feeling. I feel like a child that hasn't done their homework or something. I'm not used to it.
I'm quite excited because I've found a database program for my PDA. Haven't got a use for a database on my PDA yet, but give me time...
I used to run a website with a database. I miss it. Setting it up was more fun than entering the data..
true story!
that's why i has christine to enter the data. every programmer needs a christine.
When doing my final assignment I remember changing a few settings from 0 to 1. That was a fun day, that, oh the rebellion I led!
Makes more sense, tired mind
I thought it would be the other way around, because I was never a good programmer and I love F1 history. Turns out the SQL queries were quite fun, and making my own entry system (I've forgotten everything about it now). Then someone offered to help because I didn't have enough time, and he set it up in MS Access for me, and copying results from books was no fun.
do you still have the data?
:)
:)
Errr, not sure, will check.
Yes.
I have 15 versions of it, all from 2004. :)
if you don't want to waste the effort, we should try and do something together with it. i've no idea what the content is, but i know access pretty well.
Oh wow I even have the original site from 2003. It doesn't work because it isn't on a webserver.
The first thing I did was a race schedule, I was so pleased with it and it is still better than anything out there in terms of ease of use IMO.
It was supposed to be F1 race results from 1950 onwards, because pretty much only FORIX (and a guy called Geoff who was vaguely helping me) did it at the time. The plan was to have basic results while Geoff went into a high level of detail, then to expand mine to indycar and other stuff.
Willing to do something for sure, if we can each spare the time.
no probs, can discuss at goodwood if ya like? are you there sunday, not sure if we've picked a day yet.
Evening all.
Have you seen this story Mr C? I thought it might appeal:
http://www.cultofmac.com/macheist-tweaks-gruber-with-safari-extension-adding-comments-to-daring-fireball/47232
Can do.
I'm not necessarily saying I want to do the results site again. Well, kind of, but lots of others have since sprung up and it could be duplication. And I only have about 3 years of data if that.
i've been following the conversation. but i'm on gruber's side. i don't think he (or all blogs for that matter) need comments.
fair enough. am happy to do tech if we can make it fun and engaging for people to update.
Awwwesome
http://web.archive.org/web/20030803064040/http://www.racing-stats.com/
love it :)
Thanks. People?
I am interested in the concept, if this can be done for one blog it can be done for any website. I realise it's been done before, but it appeals to my sense of mischief :D
That's the 2003 version, there was a newer one which was white and grey. I replaced the text calendar with a PHP one and you could choose your championship and everythin'.
community. we don't do anything alone any more do we? was assuming if updating info was the problem, then volunteering, bribery and corruption was a likely solution.
it can. but really, who's going to install an extension for every site. it's fun but ultimately pointless.
have switched off comments on engadget too, i want less not more comments.
You can see the 'This Week / Next Week' sidebar has been in my head for a while ;)
hehehehe
That could work although I'd be concerned about data integrity.
could also be an issue.
It might be useful for winning some unusual bets though ;)
hi all
Also, while I remember, I have to put my name/email in the top of the page every time I open it.
Here's a version of the later edition, albeit looking nothing like it did then because it can't see the database.

Ex Finnish F1 driver JJ Lehto injured in a boat crash. 40 knots at 4am???

Hi Amy and Alistair
grandprix.com have taken to translating foreign news sources. that cannot be good news.
I guess news is hard to come by right now. Shame for GMM that so many people have nicked their business
POssibly. The page doesn't remember me when I reopen it anyway. Using Firefox 3.6.3
joe was talking about it on the show i'm editing, i don't think he blames gmm so much for that.
did you see the comment i linked to earlier on joe's blog?
I thought for a second you were harbouring a secret boyfriend but now I remember he's your kindle :)
is private browsing enabled, and what about other browsers? feel free to test, but the code just sets and gets a simple cookie. hasn't changed in about 2 years.
Yes. I followed that post for a few days then gave up on it because I assumed no more comments. Turns out there were a few dozen more after that
my daily isn't an essay, woohoo! Although it includes a fantastic surreal video but it's all good :D
i would hope we could rely on pamela for any gossip.
awesome. have you embedded it?
grandprix.com + blog sounded like the perfect storm to me.
Um. That's fixed now... Moving on. Nothing to see here...
i have bought eee to work because I will not rest until this silly usb dongle works. back later :)
I have a feeling it would be a lot better as a normal link :)
I'm sure it'll make sense why tomorrow. Well, in 30 mins. It's nothing bad or anything, just mesmerizingly bizarre!
I am curious to see how things evolve. Are people like Joe going to tend more to the opinion side of things or the factual side. Is it possible for one person to do both on the same or different sites.
:)
daily has been scheduled and done, although I fear christine will like me then loathe me by the end of it :)
good question. joe mentioned in the last show that blogs are easier than news sites, because you get to take days off. the more people move away from large bodies like haymarket, the less chance individuals have of reporting news 24/7.
so i guess we'll see more from the likes of adam cooper, maurice hamilton etc all running their own stories. james allen is a hint of the future maybe, but even with countless sponsorships and some original ideas, he's still skipping flyaway races.
less faceless sites are better though, because gmm can't put a face to their "news".
awesome. i'll be in the clear for a whole 24hrs.
Right, bed time. Working all weekend :(
having said that. adam cooper blogs, and works for speed / autosport at the same time. he doesn't blog very much though.
Boo :( night andy
jealous!
Night Andy
I don't tend to read him or James Allen a lot.
Evening :(
Hi gavin, wassup?
Evening :( {Comment #389}
What's the matter?
Ah, just came back from the pub to watch the game!
Ahhh, it was a bit rrrrrubbish.
i get the impression he has a really good idea of where he's trying to get to, but he's let down by a lack of technical support / funding. he has the writing ability to carry it off, but not if he's not in the paddock.
what's worse is that he's not being open and honest about not being in the paddock. so he's updating the iphone app, sometimes from his living room. which i think is dishonest. but i also understand why he has to.
Hey Gavin
Find something else to entertain you for an hour and a half
Hey Steven. What did you think of Truth in 24?
When he started the blog I read it but to me Joe writes far better stuff. Maybe I should try him again
I don't think you can call James Allen's site a blog anymore - it's more of an online magazine isn't it?
I found it really interesting. I loved the bits that showed the team working. Loved McNish telling the engineer what to tell whoever was in the car etc. Especially when he points at the time remaining and says you better tell him that just as TK comes on and asks the question.
I assume then when his website goes down it is the MFC equivalent of pages of a magazine stuck together until you frustrating rip them trying to get them open
#understatement
i think they compliment each other well. joe steers clear of technical updates, which james does well. joe reports stuff you need to know. not sure if scarbs is involved in james' site, but he covers that sort of thing.
the twitter page is also vastly different from joe.
I don't really read it. I may give it another chance
I can't say I've ever really read James Allen's site...
possibly, but it's written in a blog style isn't it? it has polls and things that are interactive, rather than magaziney.
I love how it shows how much the team has to do and how much goes into it.
It obviously strikes a chord, as Mrs Goat also enjoyed it...
the fxpro thing is quite unique: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/06/canadian-grand-prix-the-key-decisions/
worth checking i say.
Well that is true. I read it regularly but I think Joe updates his site more frequently...
Right, I'm gonna head off as I'm super tired. See you all tomorrow evening!
he at least has fairly decent headers these days.
i think the important comparison to me, is that i prefer joe's site to grandprix.com. even when he used to write for it.
in the same way i prefer autosport articles that name who wrote the thing.

Since I consider a blog to be any site published using easy-update technology that automatically dates entries, both of them are blogs in my eyes. They're just doing quite different things with the technology (though Sidepodcast remains the gold standard in "origianl use of blog technology" ;) )
helps a lot!
(hearts) alia ;)
I never read much of GrandPrix.com but I didn't know better at the time... used to like P-F1 ;)
yikes! so so glad that isn't the case.
i grew into formula 1 online via grandprix.com, pitpass and autosport (probably atlas). those three were awesome from about 2003 onwards. only autosport remains on my feed reader.
Hi folks.
What is up with Fantasy Racers? I get a cannot-display-the-webpage message. Any info on this?
I used to like the old f1.com - before bernie took it back...
ooh, talking of pitpass, did anyone catch that chris sylt is happy to divulge confidential information about the people who purchase his book?
Last week Michelin bought the latest edition of Sylt's Formula Money report...
is it legal to publicise that information? more here: http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=41139
Working for me
Same here with 2 different Browsers. Maybe an update or host fail
not sure i ever read it, but i've heard good things.
Ah well. I would try a different browser but I am on a new computer I still have a lot to install on. Thanks.

My first foray into F1 online was Yahoo! back in 1999. I continued using it until the redesign last year made the page inaccessible, though the way I used it had gradually changed from "hub of all activity" to "quick glance of what the gossip is so I know what keywords to look for on the serious sites today". It was only in December 2002 that I started adding other sites to the list - first the FIA's home page, then homeoff1.com (both of which are still in my "blogroll"). Pitpass and grandprix.com only made it into my search list three months after that and both remain on "blogroll".
All this talk of sites, blogs etc. maybe we need a new post of sites that we can trust ;)
P***pot has really gone downhill, but we've mentioned that before. For me it was always Autosport and to a lesser extent Grandprix.com, and the original f1.com. Always heard good things about the original Atlas but never properly got into it before the merger.
Actually the original original PF1 when Balfe ran it was a reasonable snarky/fun look at it, then something went wrong and it changed writers and Balfe set up Pitpass, which was okay for a while before he grew a massive chip on his shoulder
grandprix.com was shuffled off the feed reader when they claimed turn 8 in turkey was a right-hander.
everything's going wrong...
virus alert on the main pc, gone into safe mode for a scan and jumped to netbook for general browsing while it does it... but netbook doesn't want to update adobe air or tweetdeck for some reason.
today has really been quite frustrating all round..
i am back. its still not working but if i keep trying i will end up throwing it out the window
could do. it ought to be a page i guess.
only suggested it as the last post was from last year, and Joe wasnt mentioned in the post.
is there not one on the wiki
fair point. will add to the list.

I missed that one - EEK!
wel... ummm... i may have broken the old wiki.
:D

Grrrr! Why has Teamworks made the event prices so difficult to find this year? They used to have an electronic brochure with the prices in it but now they only seem to have the website prices, which don't give exact prices for parties and only out-of-date prices for corporate events :(
i had an error message updating air this morning, so went to adobe site to download direct. it said it was already installed.
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns22282.html {Comment #438}
Oh, so we were supposed to describe Liuzzi's off in qualifying in Turkey as "interesting" (since that's the nearest anyone's gone to really turning right at that corner)?
Ahh, its Air that's not updating properly here. I'll leave it for now. Thanks.
:)
