Hello everybody, I'm back for the second time this week to bring you your daily dose of goodness. Double Christine this week, aren't you all lucky? Although there's no racing, there's still plenty going on that we can talk about - and no, I don't mean the golf. (Sorry, RG). Here are a couple of the things on our minds:

  • The big question on everyone's lips at the moment is: what on earth is going on at Hispania? Fresh from booting Bruno out of the team for a weekend, they've decided he can return whilst Chandhok gets to be a spectator instead. Yamamoto gets another turn behind the wheel, which is weird, because... he wasn't that good. Mr C has more on the blog, please let us know what you think of this messy situation.
  • We are onto the third matchup of the Character Cup already and so far it has been a ridiculously close run thing. Who would have thought Alonso would be beaten by Petrov? Or that it would be so even between Hulkenberg and Buemi? Anyway, today we're voting on two Brazilians - di Grassi and Barrichello. I feel this one won't be as close and all I can say is phew!
  • A little bit of self-promotion now - I spruced up my Twitter account with some lovely purple paint, and have also blogged about the process on my personal blog. It's also worth repeating that the fabulous Anthony Davidson is on Twitter now, and has actually been tweeting. Lovely stuff.

That should do it for now, it's Saturday, the start of the weekend, so I hope you are having a good one. Let us know what you are up to and how you plan to spend your Sunday now that Franck has been kicked out of Superleague. Eh-hem, I promised myself I wouldn't go into that... See you in the comments!

Well I guess there is only a couple more. I already have a shift next week, the one after that I can't do as I have plans with a friend and then there is only 2 more weekends before the weekend I leave. I guess I can handle 3 more shifts.

Not sure if folks have seen this but autsport are reporting the full dialogue between Chalie Whiting and Ferrari

"13:31:05 The overtaking move takes place at Club and after one second Rivola calls Whiting, who replies after 11 seconds. Rivola asks: 'Have you seen the pass? In our opinion there was no room to overtake.'

26 secs after the pass, Whiting asks to be given time to watch the TV footage.

13:33 Ferrari makes a second radio call - 1m55s after the pass. Alonso has completed another lap plus one sector, and is behind Nico Rosberg and Jaime Alguersuari, while Kubica drops further back.

Whiting tells Ferrari that the stewards think Alonso could give the position back. Rivola asks: 'Is this the decision?'

Whiting replies: 'No, but that's how we see it.'

Rivola informs the team while Rosberg overtakes Alguersuari. On the GPS screen that shows the position of the cars, Ferrari sees Kubica dropping further back. Meanwhile, Alonso overtakes Alguersuari at Turn 2.

13:33:22 Ferrari makes a third radio call.

Rivola tells Whiting: 'Alonso doesn't have only Kubica behind. He would have to concede two positions now.'

While they discuss the matter Kubica is overtaken by Barrichello so Alonso would have to now give up three positions.

Whiting replies: 'We have given you the chance to do it or not. Things being this way, the stewards will hear the drivers at the end of the race, but I understand your position.'

13:35:30 Kubica stops so Alonso can no longer give the position back.

13:45:31 The stewards investigate the Alonso/Kubica incident. The monitors then display 'car number 8 under investigation', 14m26s after the pass.

13:46:26 Just 55 seconds later the stewards decide that Alonso should have a drive-through penalty."

Two thinks strike me first Ferrari were taking too much of a gamble that there would not be no penalty or if it were it would be relatively light.

Second after saying it would be reviewed after the race (if true) then it is hugely unfair to award a drive through during the race.

  • me17/07/2010 at 13:44

Second after saying it would be reviewed after the race (if true) then it is hugely unfair to award a drive through during the race.

interesting point. we have been calling for less decisions after a race though. it would've hurt alonso less though.

  • Pat W17/07/2010 at 13:48

Just had a nice walk around town. Couldn't find the light fitting I needed. Apparently you have to buy the whole ceiling thing, not just the screwy-in bit that holds the shade in place... I didn't want to have to fit the whole thing..

I do not like post race decisions either, but if say one thing you should continue with it that's my only point.

Personal view is the driver needs to be advised by the team. Many people said Fernando should have given the position back immediately - viz it is his call. I disagree in the sense the team should tell him to have given it back. Its a team sport and team responsibility, you win or lose as a team - Ferrari are doing a lot of losing lately and some of it is their own doing.

  • me17/07/2010 at 14:08

two layers of fencing? is that a media spot?

  • me17/07/2010 at 14:09

agreed. i still think kubica was out of position and overambitious, but fernando should have conceded immediately.

  • Pat W17/07/2010 at 14:09

It could be, they've got accreditation for the media centre. There is a public area there too though.

agreed. i still think kubica was out of position and overambitious, but fernando should have conceded immediately.

Totally my point - but if I were a team manger I would not want my driver conceding positions that in hindsight should not of been conceded. Ferrari needed to make the call and it could have been done with 20 secs of Alonso's overtake. I think most teams would have done this.

  • me17/07/2010 at 14:23

most drivers would have done it first, i reckon.

    yup I think so

  • Red Dog17/07/2010 at 14:30

most drivers would have done it first, i reckon.

You do run a risk of conceding when you need not e.g. Lewis with Jarno at Australia under the safety car. The fact that Jenson at the finish of Silverstone had no idea Webber reflects both single-mindedness and that they actually have no idea of the big picture - hence the need for communication with the team.

I do NOT buy Ferrari's asking Whiting's view; FIA and its Stewards need either more technology or responsibility before these options sought. Sure NASCAR it happens but the racing is better organised, but this does not mean better racing.

  • Red Dog17/07/2010 at 14:31

It's amazing what finishing school does for making you want to get out & be yourself. It's great to go to uni because you can be yourself in an education environment with people to support you if you need it. I would have been really scared to have just moved away without the security of going onto a campus.

i've always been a home person who used to get very homesick at the thought of leaving.. or even going on holiday. now i just want to go travel and have fun... strange how experiences can change you for the better.

    absolutely.

  • Bassano17/07/2010 at 17:03

    absolutely.

More than the app or just cos it's free?

It's just visual right, no sector times or gaps

  • me17/07/2010 at 17:05

More than the app or just cos it's free?

It's just visual right, no sector times or gaps

if you have the ipad app, it's almost completely irrelevant. however, if you don't it's a useful thing to have access too.

  • Janna17/07/2010 at 17:05

More than the app or just cos it's free?

It's just visual right, no sector times or gaps

It is just a map showing where everyone is relative to each other. I don't have the app so for me it's great to have it in conjunction with live timing, comments, fbfb etc. I don't think it's for use on it's own, just to supplement the coverage.

  • Leigh O'Gorman17/07/2010 at 18:34

I take that as a "she won't take the hint but the governing body will"...

Kind of - it's more that her sponsorship is keeping Alex Lloyd's Dale Coyne seat afloat too. With some sense, Coyne will be looking for a way to shore the sponsorship loss, but for Duno to be pulled mid-season could potentially tank the team

good cause apparently dad ranf the passport people last week and they told me i couldn't get mine done for late august cause they had a backlog of them or something and they were taking months to clear. luckily my passport will be alright to travel.. (just)

  • Bassano17/07/2010 at 19:14

    To Brisbane in September

There was a huge backpackers in the CBD with a wild bar in the basement

    It was very Coyote Ugly

They had a free drink on "No Undies Monday"

    :D

  • Bassano17/07/2010 at 19:15

luckily my passport will be alright to travel.. (just)

Last time I travelled through the tunnel, I don't think they even checked

That was a long time ago

Technically, you can travel to Europe with simple ID like a driving licence

  • Alison17/07/2010 at 19:16

We're going to go and stay with Nick's dad and they're a bit out of Brisbane, I'm sure it won't be the crazy life... I think his step sister will let us stay at her house while she's on holiday though.

  • Pat W17/07/2010 at 19:16

They checked when I went through two years ago. There's a Frenchman in a booth on the Kent side who asks for everyone in the car to hand them over.

i rang them again today and since i come back about a month before it runs out it should be okay. it's just a pain cause the photo looks nothing like me, i almost like the new one.

Just a few feet before that the UK border people do random spot checks, pulling cars to one side to ask questions. And on the way back.

they always check them (always have for me).. we used to go to france alot.. not so much recently, but security is much much tighter than it was when i was younger.

It'll be fine for Europe. Places further afield won't let you in with less than 3/6 months on your passport.

I thought about that too. I think beer prices have equalised a bit but I'm sure we can make room for wine. Must ask Dad if the place we went to before is still there, and where it is

I might choose to spread it over my life so far. Before this January I'd been on 5 very short haul flights :D It is awful though, I can't actually believe it because I hate flying! That's why I'd never been anywhere....

I refuse to feel guilty anyways. Nick worked it out for me once and he's flown something ridiculous like 600 times...

  • Pat W17/07/2010 at 19:50

Infinity Land, The Vertigo of Bliss or Blackened Sky?

If you've got time all of them, they were one of my top bands for a long time :D

Blackened Sky is nice, bit dark in places and some sweet stuff in there too. I loved it at first, bit over it now.

Vertigo is okay but the weakest I think, I tend to change my mind about it quite a lot though because there are a few really good ones on there.

Infinity Land is the more complete album from start to finish. Track two is good for clearing any anger ;) I like how some songs start off with a loud heavy intro then turn into something nice and melodic.

They were released in this order one every year for three years, so you can sort of follow the progression and I like that.

The LMS race at Portimao (which is happening as I type) is also providing pretty mindless entertainment. Especially the GT2s, which all (except one at the front which we'll pretend isn't there) seem to have developed a liking for trading paint...

This is not sad face though. This is happy face - you still have the great experience of watching a film for the first time ahead of you. Good times.

me too, also Toy story 3 and Scott Pilgrim :)

    Looks cool

  • Steven Roy17/07/2010 at 21:40

Steven, have you ever seen an anechoic chamber?

    Looks cool

Yes. I saw that one last night but I have seen loads in the past. I refuse to believe that one works with the flat walkway and steps though.

  • Leigh O'Gorman17/07/2010 at 21:41

Right - am off to get some tea and stuff.

Back later probably with more blogging

Is all those pointy things soft and spongey or hard? It looks like a messed up Super Mario level

  • Alianora La Canta17/07/2010 at 21:43

I'm trying very hard not to scream in excitement because the car I'm supporting in LMS (#95) has just passed the GT2 championship leader in a very exciting way to get 2nd in class :D

I doubt it. Apollo would have been way more shiny if Steve Jobs designed it. And I am sure some of the astronauts were left handed

  • Steven Roy17/07/2010 at 21:46

Of course it works. You're not going to make the floor all spiky are you?

I don't see the point in everything being spiky and having a huge flat floor and steps. THe walkway doesn't need to be anything like as wide and could be withdrawn once the person gets in there

  • Lukeh17/07/2010 at 21:47

With what they have spent on that anechoic chamber it seems the obvious thing to do. I don't understand having a huge flat surface in there

I guess it's a trade-off between efficiency of the room and the ease of getting in and out of it. Remember this is just one of the multiple rooms mentioned on Friday.

F2 is spec cars and young drivers so should be reasonably spectacular if you can find the right spot. Assuming they are using the Brands Indy circuit I would suggest Paddock Hill Bend or Druids which are the first two corners after the start line

DTM is on the Indy layout. It always strikes me as the wrong way round, surely the smaller touring cars should be on the shorter track.
