Usually, I would have a look at Wikipedia and dig out what kind of special day it is today so that I can share a random fact with you good people. I don't need to do that today, because I know what day it is - it is an important day in the Sidepodworld. It is... Flibster's birthday!!! Happy Birthday! Anyway, moving on, here is some F1 stuff:

  • Sam Michael says that Williams' performance can only be measured on their position in the constructor's championship, and they are sixth. But he says he doesn't believe they are the sixth fastest car, he reckons they are better than that. I wasn't convinced they were even that far up!
  • Ross Brawn has been pondering the situation F1 is in at the moment, and says that all parties need to learn from it. I am thinking perhaps what they really need to do is sort. it. out.
  • Finally, Alonso is still touting the party line that they are working hard and hoping to turn things around for the rest of the season. He does mention that the double diffuser should have taken 15 weeks to introduce but they managed to bring it to the car in 5. So, they really are working hard!

That'll do it for now. I can't think there is anything else to talk about today, nothing special happening at all, it is not an important day. Therefore, I'll see you in the comments.

I am going to do some last minute tax cramming.

You can probably tell I'm not too bothered about this one. It is my 3rd option and we're only meant to take two, I took one as a backup and ended up passing the other two. Would be nice to bag this one as well though.

The worrying thing is that I've seen a Twitter message saying that it is down to Ross to save F1 (presumably because everyone else is being less constructive about the whole thing).

Right, i need your opinion on something...

I'm having a discussion with someone, they think that because we leave school in 2009 we're the class of 2009, but i think that because we started in 2002, we're the class of 2002.

    Opinions?

Christine is correct... And the reason is because kids get held back etc.

The year you finish is much more important to people. Because that says, "you got these results when the exams were like this".

  • Jon Waldock16/06/2009 at 10:02

    Well there's the confusion...

It's often written as "Graduating class of 2009". But often people miss out the word. If you want to sneakily win your argument you should insist that your friend incorrectly missed the word "graduating".

Sorry to hear about your excess of hair this morning :(

  • Alianora La Canta16/06/2009 at 10:12

    Hello Lukeh!

By the way, I found out that while we've been watching the budget cap scrap, the FIA have changed the licence regulations a bit. They now have the right to involve the Safety Commission as well as WMSC for marginal cases entering F1. The regulation previously read that the FIA as a whole could consider such cases.

Who thinks this could be the FIA's excuse to not reduce Superlicence fees in 2010 as promised?

  • Jon Waldock16/06/2009 at 10:13

Sorry to hear about your excess of hair this morning :(

Excess of hair? Have i missed something?

  • Lukeh16/06/2009 at 10:13

Sorry to hear about your excess of hair this morning :(

It made for a nice trip. Waiting 15 minutes for a bus, seeing the notice on the front of the hairdressers, then 25 minutes for a bus back.

Well, at least it's a gorgeous day :P

  • Lukeh16/06/2009 at 10:14

Excess of hair? Have i missed something?

Went to have a haircut (as my hair has now entered the stage of 'wild') to find out hairdressers is closed.

    Till July. Bah! :P

I fear so, my good man. It's quite a stage. Imagine a lion with no food ravaging his way through an african savannah in search for one meal.

Like that.... but with hair. It's quite uncontrollable.

  • Christine16/06/2009 at 10:16

If I remember correctly, Franck's hair was described as wild during Le Mans, so... it might not be so bad.

I have stopped reading F1 news sites because I just don't care anymore. Someone tell me when its over.

I was happy at work, I have been moved to another project for 2 weeks where I have unrestricted internet access and can listen to my mp3 player all day.

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 10:53

    Ah, that's my dream!

But the work is soooo boring. I get the feeling they only let us do it for 2 weeks in case we fall asleep and never wake up again.

    Sounds like a plan!

Not yet :D but I'm writing (or should I say just uploaded the first draft) a primer for people going to watch it as a support race at Silverstone. Bit like the GP2 one I did yesterday.

Yes, I am planning on attempting primers for the historic and Porsche Supercup races as well...

  • RCC (aka rockingcopsecorner)16/06/2009 at 11:45

    Mmmmmm. Ribena.

We have it on tap at work (well huge 5 litre bottle every week) and it's so tempting to keep hammering it all day long. So bad for the teeth though!

Just thinking a Ribena livery car would be awesome....

aw I like ONE HD even though a lot of the programming is rubbish. Let me survey my EPG. On now: NBA. Next, Netball, then the 2008 Race of Champions. Then surfing, then the Red Bull Air Race. Not too bad tonight actually. It's when they have whole days of surfing, poker and bull riding that I want to cry.

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:20

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:28

Justin TV (or similar) replay? I'm just excited at being able to replay the live timing

    understandable, it is very cool.

we can technically hide the live comments and replay them in time, just like the f1 app does, but if you leave a comment, you'll never get a response. so it kinda seems pointless.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:28

Oh well - bye bye F1.

So now what? Should we really be looking at a serious possibility of a breakaway? Or will Le Mans find itself having new entrants next year?

I wonder what's taking FOTA so long to release their dossier. Why do I have this feeling that it will more or less claim that the FIA is lying?

Also, I hear FIA trashed any suggestion that Donnelly has acted inappropriately. Did they explain why they thought he didn't?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:31

So now what? Should we really be looking at a serious possibility of a breakaway? Or will Le Mans find itself having new entrants next year?

    Possibly both.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:32

    Possibly both.

You just know the ACO want to get these guys to jump ship - I think they have quite the rivalry with the FIA...

The ultimate loophole in the budget cap?

  • Alison16/06/2009 at 12:36

Haha yeah. Also couldn't you just pretend your development was for this year's car but that it didn't make it in time.... Surely the whole thing is a continuous process and anything helpful you find will apply forever more (until the rules change) I don't see how you can separate season's spending so discretely.

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:36

If there's a breakaway, he'll defend his title there. But if it's Le Mans... well... that wouldn't be ideal, would it?

Sutil world champion next year then?

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:38

ooooh. that would really hurt. do you honestly see some teams not even bothering to finish the season? can't they get sued for that?

more worrying, imagine if the sport implodes before you take your title?

    Oh yeah :-(

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:38

Sutil world champion next year then?

Nah - Rosberg and Williams will take it.

  • Jeremy16/06/2009 at 12:38

You just know the ACO want to get these guys to jump ship - I think they have quite the rivalry with the FIA...

I still maintain this is all Bernie puppetry, but Max is going through a tough time mentally after the death if his son, and at some point in the distant future, will admit to not realising how much it affected him

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 12:38

If there's a breakaway, he'll defend his title there. But if it's Le Mans... well... that wouldn't be ideal, would it?

I can't see any of the drivers being happy with only racing once a year

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:39

ooooh. that would really hurt. do you honestly see some teams not even bothering to finish the season? can't they get sued for that?

they can get sued, yes. but if they don't turn up next year they'll likely get sued anyways.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:39

I can't see any of the drivers being happy with only racing once a year

There is a Le Mans series. it currently races on 8 circuits, I think - including the Nurburgring (is it the whole Nordschleife? not sure on that), Algarve, Silverstone, and others...

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:40

I can't see any of the drivers being happy with only racing once a year

    Or the teams

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:40

they can get sued, yes. but if they don't turn up next year they'll likely get sued anyways.

now that would be quite the worst-case scenario. the question is what bernie would do if there is indeed a breakaway...

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:40

There is a Le Mans series. it currently races on 8 circuits, I think - including the Nurburgring (is it the whole Nordschleife? not sure on that), Algarve, Silverstone, and others...

I would even suggest that they merge with the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and we'd get a proper Le Mans World Champiosnhip

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:41

There is a Le Mans series. it currently races on 8 circuits, I think - including the Nurburgring (is it the whole Nordschleife? not sure on that), Algarve, Silverstone, and others...

    just the baby-ring, sadly.

  • Jeremy16/06/2009 at 12:41

they can get sued, yes. but if they don't turn up next year they'll likely get sued anyways.

So pay the money to settle out of court, and get rid of Max and Bernie in one go.

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 12:41

There is a Le Mans series. it currently races on 8 circuits, I think - including the Nurburgring (is it the whole Nordschleife? not sure on that), Algarve, Silverstone, and others...

There is, but who watches it?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:42

they can get sued, yes. but if they don't turn up next year they'll likely get sued anyways.

Even though half the teams haven't signed the concorde agreement... Bernie will sue them anyway.

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:42

    what bernie would do .

    Sell the TV rights?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:42

There is a Le Mans series. it currently races on 8 circuits, I think - including the Nurburgring (is it the whole Nordschleife? not sure on that), Algarve, Silverstone, and others...

    And the ALMS

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:43

So pay the money to settle out of court, and get rid of Max and Bernie in one go.

if you're ferrari and you don't want to be in 2010 f1, as it currently stands. and you've no hope of winning this year either. you know you're going to meet bernie's lawyers at some point, so why not cut your losses early?

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:43

Even though half the teams haven't signed the concorde agreement... Bernie will sue them anyway.

But I thought they signed a commercial deal when they decided to enter for the 2005 or 2006 championship?

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:43

Even though half the teams haven't signed the concorde agreement... Bernie will sue them anyway.

agreed. if f1 implodes he'll go about suing everyone, whilst simultaneously signing them up to a new series.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:43

There is, but who watches it?

There is a small, but significant, community of people who watch it. And you just know that if they defect en masse, a lot of the people who watch F1 now will at least watch the first few races of it...

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:44

agreed. if f1 implodes he'll go about suing everyone, whilst simultaneously signing them up to a new series.

hehe. too true. and when they sign up, they'll suddenly "settle out of court"?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:44

But I thought they signed a commercial deal when they decided to enter for the 2005 or 2006 championship?

There's a Letter of intent that says they will abide by the existing concorde agreement - but as that legally expired in 1997(?) there is no legal basic to it.

Also, the new Concorde agreement is only legal when the FIA and the FOM representatives have signed it. Currently, the FIA Haven't.

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 12:44

There is a small, but significant, community of people who watch it. And you just know that if they defect en masse, a lot of the people who watch F1 now will at least watch the first few races of it...

I'd probably watch one then get angry and never watch again

  • Jeremy16/06/2009 at 12:45

Exactly. Letting things drag on in court just hands control to someone else and makes the lawyers rich. Spend your money on motor racing!

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:45

yep, perfect. Just as I get live F1 tv coverage.....

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:45

There's a Letter of intent that says they will abide by the existing concorde agreement - but as that legally expired in 1997(?) there is no legal basic to it.

Oooh - you just know the lawyers will pick on that while there's no tomorrow.

Also, the new Concorde agreement is only legal when the FIA and the FOM representatives have signed it. Currently, the FIA Haven't.

And they're blaming each other for not doing so. The FIA just wanted a renewal of the current version. FOTA wanted a revised one. No one budged.

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:46

yep, perfect. Just as I get live F1 tv coverage.....

    :)

it probably won't happen. just saying that jenson should have bigger worries than "i wonder if i can defend my title".

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:47

I'd probably watch one then get angry and never watch again

even if heikki were there? ;)

but seriously, why would you be angry? there is some good racing right now in that series - with only 2 manufacturers. add some more, and we'd get a really good show. LMS/ALMS races are longer too. They're usually 3 or 6 hours, with the occasional 12 or 24 hour race.

  • Paul16/06/2009 at 12:48

it probably won't happen. just saying that jenson should have bigger worries than "i wonder if i can defend my title".

You're not talking about Rubens are you?

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 12:48

even if heikki were there? ;)

    i didn't follow Mika to DTM ;)

because its not the racing I like. I can't give a reason as to why I'm not really a fan of sportscars, I'm just not.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 12:48

it probably won't happen. just saying that jenson should have bigger worries than "i wonder if i can defend my title".

so you're still confident this will all get resolved? but will max release a list on friday without the 5 asterisked entries?

  • James16/06/2009 at 12:48

The reason I wanted to know Christines fav colour is over on the drop.io but I've forgotten how to link it all up

    Actually....

Does anyone want a copy of the 1997 Concorde Agreement?

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:50

    where is Gavin anyway?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:51

    huh?

I have, in PDF form, a copy of the Concorde Agreement that dates from 1997, this was actually the agreement used until 31st December 2008

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:52

    arrested for kidnapping.

  • Lukeh16/06/2009 at 12:52

    it was made available.

lets all switch sports. Tennis also has twitter insiders.

am sure everything will be sorted before long though.

  • me16/06/2009 at 12:54

It had better be. I have never given in to the politics before, and always remained optimistic.

Right now, it's a real struggle to find the motivation to do F1 Minute.

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 12:56

Tennis also has two of its top 10 on Twitter. Two more than F1. Because I'm 100% sure Nelson isn't in the top 10.

    see ya paul.

Um, why are we interested in something that is no longer relevant though?

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 12:59

    100 pages roughly.

  • Flibster16/06/2009 at 13:00

Um, why are we interested in something that is no longer relevant though?

This is what they are currently obeying.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:00

Um, why are we interested in something that is no longer relevant though?

Because it still is relevant - this is the Concorde Agreement the FIA want to renew, but FOTA want to revise...

It had better be. I have never given in to the politics before, and always remained optimistic.

    I'll get you through it!

F1 Rocks! Sing it to the tune of the Drew Carey show theme (Cleveland Rocks)

  • Christine16/06/2009 at 13:01

Because it still is relevant - this is the Concorde Agreement the FIA want to renew, but FOTA want to revise...

I have been. Yesterday's F1 Minute was about Le Mans!

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:03

Do what I would do, pretend the politics aren't happening :D

Easier said than done, James, especially if it's that same politics that might kill the sport altogether.

I was hoping it would do better than 60 seasons.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:03

I have been. Yesterday's F1 Minute was about Le Mans!

Maybe Franck is mystic and decided to jump to Le Mans before F1 implodes? :D

  • me16/06/2009 at 13:04

    Mean.

Lovely works on Alain Prost and (gasp!) the FIA-FOTA chess match.

I especially love the latter. :)

Why are the Brawn drivers on the FIA's side? :P

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:13

can you explain it? the chess match? is lost on me.

you know - FIA and FOTA trying to checkmate the other? Would be better if he used Max and LDM as kings rather than Button and Alonso, but, oh well.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:13

Why are the Brawn drivers on the FIA's side? :P

Probably because the FIA will want to keep them - and they are a privateer team. That said, I'm a bit confused as to why Le Seb is on the FOTA side, when RBR is on the FIA side.

  • Christine16/06/2009 at 13:14

you know - FIA and FOTA trying to checkmate the other? Would be better if he used Max and LDM as kings rather than Button and Alonso, but, oh well.

It doesn't really make any sense. Not a fan of that one.

I did like the one with Barrichello facing backwards though.

  • Jeremy16/06/2009 at 13:14

That's it for me, I'm off to bed. Good session, see you all (my) tomorrow. Manly bum pats all round. As a team, we'll beat this current hiccup in motivation. Luvs u all!

    Yeah I saw that ;)

I got back late last night after a 24-hour drive (luckily I wasn't driving!) and I'm so knackered I took the day off work.

    What. A. Race!

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:26

Indeed. We're happy for Franck. :) Peugeot wouldn't let him challenge, sadly.

  • Journeyer16/06/2009 at 13:33

Neither am I - I can't see how Peugeot didn't let the all French team win???

They didn't want them to take each other out going for the lead, so they ordered them to hold station.

They may also not be 100% confident of their reliability, so they asked them to tune down engines.

  • me16/06/2009 at 13:36

any idea what we ought discuss?

any idea what we ought discuss?

I have the solution. Follow Le Mans instead. Here's why:

    - All the cars are different and are all interesting

    - Franck!

    - They have sidepods and a class called P1 so no major name change required.

    - It was 5 Pints of Awesome!

  • Christine16/06/2009 at 13:41

any idea what we ought discuss?

The other problem is, it's easy to come up with other things like: what about Silverstone's last race?

But every race could be the last race.

"what would you be if you weren't an f1 journalist?"

may not be appropriate at this time ;)

I have the solution. Follow Le Mans instead. Here's why:

    I like that idea. A lot. :D

Can I just say, that was easily the best race I have ever been to - the whole thing is so well done and the place has it's own, um, energy and atmosphere! I could sit there for hours and not know!

Why are your products SO bloated?!

Does Adobe Acrobat Pro really need to take 15 minutes to decompress before installing?

    get a ma...

It's a DVD with a 350mb installer file on it.

Whats wrong with having the unpacked files on the disk and a single setup file?

I even choose english as the language, and it stull unpacks the German, Spanish and French language versions...

The biggest shame is its not the current workers who are at fault, its the airlines pension obligations which drag it down...

In opposite news, an old man has won the lottery, says he won't let it go to his head but he is going to buy a flash car, move to the country and purchase a farm for his children. Not going to his head at all. Mind you, that'll be me tomorrow when I win.

    OK

Unless you're in a cabled area, you're stuck with a BT installation for the 1st year I think before you can switch (Yooooooooouuuuuuuu gotta SWITCH!)

  • Nick16/06/2009 at 16:13

Unless you're in a cabled area, you're stuck with a BT installation for the 1st year I think before you can switch (Yooooooooouuuuuuuu gotta SWITCH!)

You need more than to be in a cabled area. You need an act of the gods. I have cable installed up the side of my building, but for some reason virgin cant connect me. they literally just need to drill a hole in the wall :(

Talking to someone with sense there seems impossible

Unless you're in a cabled area, you're stuck with a BT installation for the 1st year I think before you can switch (Yooooooooouuuuuuuu gotta SWITCH!)

    i agree. now...

if you're one of those people and are a long way from the exchange, you cannot get fast broadband access either. BT don't appear to care enough to upgrade older exchanges or install newer ones and, neither does any other business competing.

what does said person do in that situation?

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:16

Talking to someone with sense there seems impossible

That obstacle has been present for years but unfortunately is not isolated to VM

    Corporate Stupidity is abound

Move out of the sticks ;)

My parents moved to the sticks and all my dad does is complain about the speed of the broadband. I'd be more concerned about having to live with tank water and a septic tank.

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:21

    Seriously, I don't know

Wait until there are enough 50 Pences in the pot to upgrade the connectivity in the local area, I guess :(

  • me16/06/2009 at 16:22

Wait until there are enough 50 Pences in the pot to upgrade the connectivity in the local area, I guess :(

exactly what's being proposed. i doubt 50p pm will be enough though.

One of the Simply Syndicated podcasts was (maybe still is) sponsored by a Septic Tank seller. I won't repeat the catchphrases they created when mentioning their benefactors

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:24

Does the government's broadband upgrade department have a PayPal account? I'd like to get mine out of the way

  • Jon Waldock16/06/2009 at 16:26

it probably isnt enough to pay for it completely, but every little helps and all that.

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:28

it probably isnt enough to pay for it completely, but every little helps and all that.

Exactly how much revenue did BT pull in last year?

    £23.4 billion

    That's a lot of 50 pences

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:32

    Actually, that should,ve been £21.4bn

The £4bn profit after tax in 1999 should've been invested a little better too

Or the £10bn over the next ten years or so after that

So, how do we feel about another 50p each per month now?

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 16:36

It is very different, but I think it is strategy. FIA must know there is more public sympathy for FOTA and this release is to re-address loss of ground. Have a look at Joe's comments on this issue. Time has run out for an agreement to be reached by FOTA and FIA.

I've just read it, and it does point out (if bits are true) that FOTA aren't being particularly helpful, but we knew that anyway. And the FIA aren't as innocent as they say that are.

I don't care what happens, just somebody pleaaaaaaase sort it out, im sick and tired of being sick and tired.

    sidepodspace update

NASA says we are go for launch tomorrow morning with an 80% chance of good weather. At 8:15pm EDT 1:15am UK we will get the go / no go on filling the fuel tank.

Launch is scheduled for 5:40am EDT 10:40 am UK.

The official countdown clock - the one that it is best to ignore because it has all the holds in it will be restarted in 15 minutes at T-11 hours and counting.

  • Rich16/06/2009 at 17:03

I've just read it, and it does point out (if bits are true) that FOTA aren't being particularly helpful, but we knew that anyway. And the FIA aren't as innocent as they say that are.

I am not sure FOTA is not "being particularly helpful" - although the way they FIA have expressed it FOTA have appeared such. FOTA has to hold up to FIA even if it means they move elsewhere (Le Mans series or a new series). FIA has done too much interference in recent times.

  • Alex Andronov16/06/2009 at 17:03

It's not that BT don't care it's that they know how expensive the upgrade is. They watched as all of their cable rivals said they were going to put BT out of business with their new model.

There are still Cable businesses but all of the current ones bought their lines in bankrupt stock from the people who put the lines in. Digging up roads and putting brand new infrastructure in costs Billions.

BT of course made a loss last year £134m.

The revenue doesn't mean much if the costs are that high.

  • Jon Waldock16/06/2009 at 17:04

  • Alex Andronov16/06/2009 at 17:05

The point being nobody really wants to pay that much more for their broadband (thanks to Carphone Warehouse et al). And so why would BT spend the money.

Here's a great business idea lets go and spend lots of money on a new product which we can't charge any money for.

It's the equivalent of the light speed barrier being broken in Star Trek

[Not sure what the cool runnings analogy is]

Getting to the bottom of the run without having been on your head?

  • RG16/06/2009 at 17:33

RG, are you ready with tomorrow's questions? Am rather excited with your 2000s Quiz. :D

Almost, going to get it finished tonight then I get to start my reign of terr...ific (to quote the Simpsons) host. So anyone who is intrested, go to

after my 1/10 in the British GP quiz yesterday, I once again won't turn up for the PF one :D

I got 2/10. There were 5 questions where I narrowed it down to a 50/50 and got all of them wrong.

  • Steven Roy16/06/2009 at 17:35

But you've been watching this decade, right? I'm sure you'll remember a lot of these.

The thing is the more recent questions are the more specific and detailed they tend to be and the further back the more general they are. No-one is going to ask who won the 1954 Italian GP or who had the most podium finishes in 1958.

The more specific it gets the worse I get.

  • Amy16/06/2009 at 17:35

But you'll do it 5:30 your time. :D

I refuse to wake up at 5.30am to get 1/25 ;)

I would be willing to bet I would, unless every question is about the Turkish Grand Prix 2009. I can't remember back further than that. Actually I can barely remember Turkey.

I have seen the future, and it is dark and cold.

  • Steven Roy16/06/2009 at 17:41

Where do ITV news find people to interview? They are doing a piece on the 50p for broadband thing and the woman they are interviewing says that fast broadband should be a right because she can't imagine a day where at least one member of the family doesn't use the internet. How can there be days where anyone doesn't use it?

"Scott's Fan Reporter experience will include a tour of the ING Renault F1 garage; interviews with BMW Sauber drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld; and a chat with PUMA Ambassador and ex F1 driver Anthony Davidson"

I thought Scott was interviewing the Renault boys?

    I read that earlier

Either it would take a new driver longer to get up to speed in Renault's eyes or [possibly] all contracts are void in the breakaway series in 2010 anyway

Both Massa & Webber are bigging it up in AUTOSPORT

  • Scott Woodwiss16/06/2009 at 18:47

I think that's a better deal no? The barbecue sounds entertaining, presuming it is German-style...

I've no idea what kind of pass I'm getting yet, so in terms of access I'm clueless. But then if I'm being allowed to meet Kubica, Heidfeld and Davidson then it can't be just general admission. At least I don't think.

That's what I thought. Until Tim said "BMW drivers". He did say when I first talked to him "BMW and Renault" but I thought that was a choice of the two, and all he said after that was Renault. So I assumed it would be Alonso and Piquet.

    Can I hop along then.

  • Scott Woodwiss16/06/2009 at 19:03

And if I may say something about the "never missing every session" thing - I try not to. Some I have missed this year, but not out of choice. Work and other things have gotten in the way. But I do always catch up on what's happened. :)

Of course. Even if Scott still says no, I will find a way in. I reckon suitcase be too small, however a possible holdall will be good. This would probably mean I won't see BMW, but that would require more Timo, however with added cramp.

last year they had a tie up with the dark knight. you could do dressed as that this time and say you got the wrong year?

  • Scott Woodwiss16/06/2009 at 19:11

  • Scott Woodwiss16/06/2009 at 19:14

Just put in a quick little update to the Question Time post on my blog.

  • Bassano Clapper16/06/2009 at 19:15

Superman, The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation

Transformers could be quite likely, opening weekend is this or next isn't it?

"So, taking stock, we had to be at the circuit again in 10 hours and we had no laptops and two FIA passes between us. Which was fine because Simon had no long-term insulin either, which meant he would keel over in the morning and wouldn't be needing his pass. We still had no means of contacting the owner, no phone chargers and none of the things you need to make a Grand prix weekend less troublesome – such as a car park pass. And, of course, we had no bed."

Completely off topic from everything but I just have to tell you about this as it's just....

at E3, Nintendo announced a new Super Mario Bros for the Wii, yknow, 2d side scrolling etc. Today they announced, if you think the game is getting too hard, you can pause it and choose to let the game play for you until it looks easier, or even better, skip the level completely.

Happy Birthday Christine/ Flibster. Also happy birthday Tupac Shakur, Joyce Carol Oates, and Stan Laurel. If it is OK, I booked the same room so everyone can celebrate their birthday at once.

No Tupac... Biggie is not invitied. We actually want to have food for everyone this time. No Stan, Hardy for the same reason.

  • Steven Roy16/06/2009 at 20:48

Aren't they also asking staff to work a month for free?

Looks like they are doing everything short of a car boot sale. They have simulators sitting there with dead time on them so they can get some plane junkies or flight sim fans pay to use them. All goes to the bottom line.

  • me16/06/2009 at 20:48

No wonder why both Airbus and Boeing were shutout during the Paris Air show over the weekend...

    what happened?

Actually, spoke to soon. Airbus has a few orders that add up to about 2 billion but Boeing haven't sold anything. For those who those who don't know, the Paris Air Show is the biggest event in commerical areospace where civil aviation manufacturers show off their wear and the time where about a quarter of all the world's commerical airplace orders are announced.

    Scott, I've been wondering something...

You linked the other night to a Forza 3 related post from a guy who has Turn 10 connections, and the post mentioned the team have had to cut out the weather and night time racing from the game. If this is indeed the case.... then why on earth have they picked up the Le Mans license and include the race?

That's true with the ridiculously long Endurance races but this is Le Mans that we all know runs off a 24 hour clock rather than the in game endurance races which were just endurance races (unless GT had Le Mans but I can't remember...too tired :()

Would just annoy me a little I suppose if they decided not to have any nighttime in le mans on there...

  • Lukeh16/06/2009 at 21:43

Oh and I'm not doubting the info at all because we'll eventually find everything out. It's just something that was on my mind earlier wondering about it. :)

because however good you are damage always ruins certain races. the amount of times i've been half way through a really long race on F1 06 or Race Driver 3 and i've tried lapping someone and they've not moved over, and they've crashed into me, and i've broken and had to retire. ITS SO FRUSTRATING

No idea. They've said nothing about a soundtrack so far. But agreed, I only know and like Feeder because of Gran Turismo. "Sweet 16" was the first song of theirs that I heard on GT1.

Erm...that's part of racing. Accidents happen. Cars get damaged. Retirements happen. Every racing driver in the world has retired from a race once, I'm sure.

Plus with damage, it should help those who have played GT for ages and relied on wallriding and hitting other cars to get round corners and win become better and cleaner drivers, thus making for hopefully better racing.

  • Alison16/06/2009 at 22:03

I might go rob the one from my boyfriend's house.... I'd get away with that for a couple of days before I had to give it back

  • Jon Waldock16/06/2009 at 22:04

Erm...that's part of racing. Accidents happen. Cars get damaged. Retirements happen. Every racing driver in the world has retired from a race once, I'm sure.

yeah but im not in proper racing :P its a game!! i use it to relax, i dont want to get more stressed because some computers taken me out

I think it was Christine said a few weeks ago her favourite feature about the F1 games was the amount of assists that she had on that braked for her, steered her car etc, and all she had to do was accellerate

Now that is unstressful racing for you! :D

  • me16/06/2009 at 22:06

  • Alison16/06/2009 at 22:06

Probably, although I've got my sleeping bag now and being uncomfy seems more like a nostalgic camping trip. That novelty might last me a whole 20 minutes!

  • Steven Roy16/06/2009 at 22:06

The european investment bank apparently, with a little help from the government

That is insanity. There is no way a company that produces one car every three weeks has the slightest clue how to make a company the size of SAAB work. That is about the dumbest thing I ever heard.

  • Lukeh16/06/2009 at 22:07

I guess they are hoping the people at SAAB know how to make a company like them work... I guess the governments priority was to rescue them and a sweedish company taking them over with government funding looks a lot better than a management buy out with government funding?

  • Pat W16/06/2009 at 22:33

how the heck do you get broadband via satellite? download yes, but you still need a phone line to upload anything... surely?

At work BT disconnected the ADSL lines because we were too far from the exchange and the service kept dropping out. So we've had to get radio internet. There is a battery-powered receiver on the hill. Unfortunately the battery needs changing every fortnight.

BT have said they are willing to try again, though...

Wind is so inconsistent. I can't believe how much money is wasted on windfarms in this country. Far better to invest in wave or tidal which is constant and predictable.

wind turbines in the worng area are worse than useless.

unless you have clean airflow they don't work. so everyone having them would cost a fortune, create noise, and a unecessary danger to birds, and acheive next to nothing.

There are some devices in use but it is always the same when anything new is suggested. THere is so much money available in this country to fix knackered old buildings that no-one gave a damn about. They should have a five year freeze on maintaining old stuff and use the money to build something thoroughly modern with modern technology. It's time this country was dragged out of the 18th century.

  • me16/06/2009 at 23:41

Hence the 'either/or'... there would be places where solar panels would be ridiculous, too.

Btw my LCLT is broken! The "What other's said" box is just white. It was working 10 minutes ago. Many refreshes haven't helped....

    You killed it?

My guess is the new daily thread just landed and there are no comments yet

I wish there was cheaper/more efficient solar. In this country, we could just about power out suburbs with panels on every roof, and feed-back to the grid during the day.

It was freezing before and I refreshed it and yeah forgot the new thread would have opened...

We can get grants here. My landlord has solar-powered heating, unfortunately it isn't connected to my system. He says it works well in all but the worst weather.

Going to call it a night, will drop in again for a couple of short while before and after the final bit of studying. :-)

I forgot to ask Jon if his last day went okay..

We can get grants too, I just can't afford the initial outlay

One of my friends has a council house in one of these new trendy eco-estates and she has solar heating. Works like a dream.

When I read the menu of what was available it struck me that they would sell a lot more seat time on Concorde than on a 757. Who wants to say that they have spent several hundred pounds on flying a 757 simulator when they can say that they have flown the Concorde.
